War for Gateway Session #14
April 21st, 569 CR
The attack on the ancient dwarven fortress continues! The Cynalonian Army continues to drive deeper slaying many enemies along the way. The hobgoblin spell caster soon falls, along with the ogres near him.
Down below, the Goblin Kickers push the enemy back into the large storage area. Another spell casting hobgoblin appears and he lets out another Fireball. More hobgoblins and ogres rush to the attack.
The overhead area is secured and Anik and Eris go down the stairs to try and catch this new spell caster from the flank. Flare uses the arrow slots on the second level to fire down into the chamber below. Eris casts another Fireball, but the hobgoblin still stands from the attack. The hobgoblin retaliates with another Fireball and greatly wounds Anik. Anik stuns the hobgoblin with a Color Spray and he falls shortly after that.
The enemy forces have been defeated and Sir Justin Moore calls for the Cynalonian Army to withdraw to the outside. Camp is set up for the evening and the food wagon is brought up. Wimzy insists that all the dead be brought outside and cremated. After all, the hill giant trapped under the portcullis died and was reanimated. In a few days the other hill giants and all the recently killed will follow suit.
As the bodies are dragged to the huge bonfire, there are signs of more undead activity inside the fortress. The exit that leads out into the caves has been filled with crates to block it. Furthermore, there are sounds of something pounding on the doors trying to get in!
Among the dead in the large central chamber are some skeletons and a few husks of skin that fell off with the skeletons animated. The theory becomes that when the enemy forces reached the fortress, they attempted to escape into the caves behind it. Perhaps using they wanted to use the barge to reach their base of operations. Instead they ran into undead. They were forced to barricade themselves in the fortress. To make matters worse, the hill giants were trying to get in to eat them! The enemy was trapped and they fought to the last man.
Later that evening, a man on a flying carpet arrives and speaks to Sir Justin. Sorvani says in an impressed voice that the man is Lord Sharadin Sculley, the Archmage of Cynalon! Lord Sharadin does not look like a typical wizard. For one thing he is thin or scrawny, but rather well muscled and carries a longsword. He has brown hair and his clean shaven. He is close to 50 years old, but in good shape. Rumor has it that he shepherds adventurers with his nephew Sherwood and their cousin the Lady Jallarzi Sallavarian. Lord Sharadin has a pair of daughters, twins named Sherry and Terry who are teenagers.
Those who get close enough, Eris for sure, can overhear the two men speaking. Lord Sharadin reports that the main branch of the Cynalonian Army has located the enemy stronghold. It's built into the mountain side and the dwarves called it Bollo's Spear. A side road branches of from the main road to Gateway. This fortress is about twenty miles further up the pass. There appears to be a rear, overland entrance as well off a lesser used tract through the mountains. This is the same road that Sann used to reach this area.
Eris speaks up that Wyvern Squad discovered that there are underground canals that the enemy used to deliver cargo to Bollo's Shield from the Spear. A multi-prong attack is suggested to attack Bollo's Spear. The main army will assault the front from the Graystone Pass side. Sir Justin will lead a smaller group up the back road and attempt to gain entry that way. Wyvern Squad along with the Goblin Kickers will attempt to use the Hover Barges they found to travel the underground canals and reach Bollo's Spear that way. Time to take down another enemy stronghold!

GM Notes:
This long day has come to an end and the group relaxes. There were a lot of injured and all priests cast all their spells to aid in healing. Wyvern Squad will be fully healed by the morning.
The plan is the attack on Bollo's Spear will be being in 3 days. It's figured that it will take one day for Wyvern Squad to reach the Hover Barges and remove the rubble on top of them. The next day would be spent traveling the canals attempting to find the enemy fortress. The day after that, the assault begins!
Now what?
