Destiny Points

Post by GM Fang »

Destiny Points are another key mechanic in the EoE RPG. The are a way to either utilize the force, or fate, or pushing the limits, or whatever you want to define it as. Points are either white (benefit players or hinder opponents) or black (hinder players or benefit opponents). When a white or black Destiny Point is used, it is 'flipped' to the other color, so the tide is constantly wavering and tilting back and forth.

A player can use a White Destiny Point to either upgrade a skill (including combat attacks) once or use it to upgrade the difficulty of the opponent's skill check.

(Example: Bob wants to shoot at an enemy Rodian. Bob has 4 Agility and has upgraded his skill with his blaster once, giving him 1 yellow and 3 green dice. Flipping a white point would change his pool to 2 yellow dice and 2 green dice, both increasing his chance to hit and do additional damage. The Rodian is at medium range and therefore would be 2 purple dice. The Rodian does not want to get shot and so uses a different black point [cannot use the one that was just flipped) and make the difficulty portion of the attack 1 purple and 1 red die each. The upgrades DO NOT CANCEL, they each modify the separate portions of the dice pool.)

Players can do the same that the Rodian did in making it harder to be hit. They can also be used to increase any skill checks made in the same way and the GM may use black DPs to increase the difficulty of skill checks.

Additionally, there are some advanced skills, as well as Force abilities that require one or more Destiny Points to activate.
