Deities

Post by GM Fenrir »

Once again a good portion of this information existed already in the previous games and so my thanks goes out for the work already created. The human deities and some of the other race additions I modified to fit this format or were found in other information sites.

The choosing of a deity for any Priest or Paladin character is very important. The power and stature of the deity directly relates to how powerful the priest is. The more powerful the God, the more powerful the priest.

In game terms this directly relates to how many points priests are allotted to build their character using Skills & Powers. This also directly refers to just what spell levels a priest can cast. Being able to cast 7th level spells isn't much good when you serve a Deity who can't grant them!

Power Level: Immortal CPS: 65 Max Spell Level Granted: 3rd
Power Level: Quasi CPS: 80 Max Spell Level Granted: 4th
Power Level: Demi CPS: 95 Max Spell Level Granted: 5th
Power Level: Lesser CPS: 110 Max Spell Level Granted: 6th
Power Level: Intermediate CPS: 125 Max Spell Level Granted: 7th & True Dweomers
Power Level: Greater CPS: 125 Max Spell Level Granted: 7th, True Dweomers & Quest

True Dweomers are the ultimate feats of spellcasting. Both Priests and Mages can cast these spells, provided they are at least 20th level with 20 scores in their primary stat.

A deity's status is determined by one of two things. The number of worshippers they have or the force it represents. The more worshippers a deity has, the more powerful it becomes. In turn, the more powerful its priesthood becomes, so followers of low powered Gods are always looking to expand their numbers.

Other Gods are the manifestation of great powers, making them a great power even if they receive little or no direct worship. Few sane beings worship a God of Death, but since everything dies eventually, the power of a Death God is enormous.

The various deities, especially among the human cultures, often overlap in some to all areas of influence leading many to proclaim there are far fewer gods than one might otherwise believe. Many believe that each particular deity may have a number of avatars and appear to different peoples in forms or features that would be more appealing to that particular group of worshippers. Whether this is indeed true or not, only those divine entities know for certain.

The following is the list of human and demi-human deities available in the game, their power status and spheres of influence. If you want more info, just send me an E-mail. Demi-humans are free to worship a deity in their pantheon, or to choose a human one. In some cases it's possible it's merely the same deity operating under different names.

With the destruction of the Dragons it is believed the gods of the Dragons ceased to have any remaining power and either faded away or simply left to find other worlds where they still posses followers.

A number of other deities exist among the less numerous races of the land and seas. Some may merely be another avatar of an existing deity while others may indeed be a power in their own right. Since they are not widely worshipped they have not been detailed here.
