Eternal Vigilance #75 - "Our Enemies, Ourselves"

The Vigilant of two dimensions and their allies prepare for the battles to come. Menagerie makes her way through the crowd, adopting new forms as she goes. She takes the form of a teenage girl called Tigereye. The real Tigereye seems bothered by this.

"I'm sorry to have bothered you," Lily replies. "With the way my powers work, this is the best way I can prepare for the coming battle."

"It's just that Nithia has done that kind of thing to us before; adopting the forms of others." Tigereye explains. "She's conqueror most of our world, so seeing someone's double is alarming."


Halo's response to Menagerie's testing is more positive.

"Halo, isn't it? Yes. By taking on another person's form, I can utilize their abilities as well." She looks back at the other woman who had been disturbed by her power. "Essentially, I am adding your capabilities to my pool of forms, so that I can access your abilities when I need them. The more forms I have access to, the more flexible I can be in dealing with situations as they arise."

"That's amazing! On my world, you'd be among the most powerful beings there is!”


The heroes split off into two groups. One remains at the Sea Base to guard the scientists while they work. The others travel to the Infinity Core, the place where the dimensions were forcibly merged and now bound together with the Unity Device. The rest remain at the Sea Base. Both groups await the enemies' arrival.

Roll Call: Goldstar, Flux, Blackout, Lavender, Tesla, Changeling, Stargirl, Frostbite, & Karma with Purple Phlox (both), Powershift, Gem, Quazar, Quazon, Hardware, Nemesis, & Bedrock vs. Star Emperor, Reflux, Dark Angel, Dark Tesla, Kumiho, Star Prince, Ice Queen, Backlash, Twisterella & Spinner.


At the Infinity Core, the heroes wait for the enemy to arrive. Flux asks questions of everyone present.

"Anyone here with heightened senses of any sort? We will need to spot small intruders, possibly invisible ones as well. Also bear in mind at least three types of vision deprivation can be used on us. With Edgar scanning for us we will know when they enter so everyone be sure you are comlinked. Check it now."

"I am mystically aware of my surroundings," the Purple Phloxes announce simultaneously. The two then share a small chuckle.

None of the other new faces present have any special sensorial abilities. Some present take to the air, while others take defensive positions about the chamber.

Finally, Edgar announces that he's picking up new arrivals teleporting into and around the Infinity Core!

The tornado twins, Twisterella and Spinner are the first to appear right in the middle of the ground level of the core. The two begin to rapidly rotate, and as they do a variety of sharp projectiles are launched! Powershift, Gem, Stargirl, and Goldstar shrug off the attacks thanks to their protective force fields. One attack simply bounces off the stone-like Bedrock.

Their arrival does not go unnoticed. Quazar and Quazon hover overhead hands joined. With their free hands, they fire off a blast of light energy that strikes Spinner, sending him flying backwards across the room. Spinner hits the far wall and slides to the floor unconscious.

A bolt of electrical energy streaks in courtesy of Tesla and it knocks Twisterella off her stride. The bolt stings, but isn't enough to put the human whirlwind down.

A second Tesla appears, hovering in mid-air. But this was radically different looking from the regular one. Bits of metal appear to be embedded in her skin and electricity occasionally arcs between them. Having materialized, Tesla fires off her own bolt of lighting, squarely hitting Powershift in the chest. The blast sends him flying backwards.

While Powershift recovers from Dark Tesla's attack, Gem retaliates, sending an energy blast of her own back at Dark Tesla, but it misses.

However, a second attack does hit the mark! Blackout's rod strikes the evil Tesla in the back of the head! The attack annoys her more than anything, but she can't quite see where the attack came from.


Back on the ground, Eldrich becomes aware of a moving field of darkness near him. It's much like the field Blackout can generate, but yet different. A pair of malevolent eyes and fangs can be seen in the darkness.

"You look like a tasty morsel," a female voice will say to Eldrich.


Above the ground, the Star Emperor appears. He gestures and a blast of plasma covers those close to the Unity Device. Goldstar and Stargirl shrug if off with ease as they are immune to their own powers, and the Star Emperor mimics' their powers.

Frostbite isn't as fortunate. The plasma tears through his icy sheath and Frostbite goes down, crying out in pain. He's still conscious, but very disorientated from the attack.

Nemesis hovers overhead. She points her hands at Star Emperor, and a blast of sonic energy is unleashed. It rips through his personal force field and does him some harm.


Not far away, Star Prince and Ice Queen appear. Star Prince unleashes a Radiation Blast at Nemesis, knocking the teenage girl backwards, but no doing her any real harm. Ice Queen fires off razor sharp icy projectiles, targeting Stargirl. Once more her force field saves her from serious harm.

Stargirl goes to Frostbite’s side, while Goldstar tags Ice Queen with a Photon Blast, making the icy villainess woozy.


The evil version of Backlash appears next, bounding into the chamber. At the same time, Reflux arrives almost completely concealed.

“There!” the male Purple Phlox calls out, pointing with his Crystal Headed Staff. Those looking that way see Reflux phasing up by the unity device!

That covers much of the opening round. Changeling, Kumiho, Flux, Karma, and Backlash can still act.


Hero Status:

Frostbite: 7 of 44, Stunned

Roll Call: Starlord, Flow, Midnight, Mauve, Lightning Rod, Menagerie, Starboy, Tilt-A-Whirl, Whirl-I-Gig, Whiteout, & Backlash with Dr. Mary Beth Williams, Dr. Morgan Williams, Guardian, the Engineer, Tigereye, Sea Guard, Sea Sprite, and Halo vs. Darkstar, Flex, BlackOut, Tesla, Skinwalker, Star Princess, Black Ice, Recoil, Sea Conqueror, Sea Queen, Powerstone & Black Pearl.


Back at the Sea Base, the heroes are more spread out. Some have gone down to the submarine dock, as the bay doors are one possible way to get in. There are several escape hatches about the base and these could be targets as well.

Still others have joined Flow near the labs where the scientists are working. This includes Tigereye, Midnight, and Mauve. Tilt-A-Whirl and Whirl-I-Gig race back and forth, covering multiple areas.

Flow has some last minute instructions.

"Primary objective is to prevent the deaths of our civilians working on the protective devices. If I were running that opp I would hit loud and hard in one or two places as diversions while sending stealth infiltrators to do the killing. Therefore I'm placing myself near the workers in my own fashion to counter any surprises there. I recommend some others come with me."

*Edwina. Worst-case scenario. If civilian lives are in extreme danger I want an emergency teleport executed for the workers away from here to our facility on the mainland. Don't wait for my command-execute at need. Can do?*

“Acknowledged,” Edwina easily answers. “The base doors are now sealed as well. They will only open for those with the proper quantum signature. The invaders will have to force their way through. I’m detecting teleport signatures outside the base. The enemy is approaching.”


Down by the submarine dock Menagerie, Backlash, Sea Guard and Sea Queen are keeping guard. Tilt-A-Whirl and Whirl-I-Gig are seen every so often as they make their rounds.

Suddenly, there is a tremendous crash outside the sea door! The metal is pushed in, as if it was struck from the outside with a tremendous force.

“A water fist, I would surmise,” Sea Guard states.

“Our doppelgangers seem to have followed the elemental path more than we did,” Sea Sprite adds. “They are more in tune with water itself.”

A second punch is landed, the door bows in even further! Finally, it breaks as someone who looks like Goldstar, but only with a different colored costume smashes through. Dragged behind her is a man wearing a scuba suit. Darkstar lands, looking about for someone to attack. Behind her, two humanoid forms of water rise up in the submarine pen. Electricity plays about the man in the scuba gear as he begins to remove it.


Elsewhere outside the base, the real Darkstar flies through the water like a torpedo. Trailing behind her is Star Princess who has Black Ice in tow. Darkstar streaks towards an escape hatch near the upper levels of the Sea Base. In Neutron Star mode, the metal gives way under her stellar enhanced strength. Water explodes into the hallway in the wake of Darkstar’s passage. Star Princess follows and Black Ice is grateful for air.

The three are standing in the water when a bolt of electricity strikes them! The water transmits the blast to all three villains and they go rigid under its affect. Further down the hallway, hovering over the water is Lightning Rod.

“Shocking, isn’t it,” the electrical hero quips.


Elsewhere, Flex uses his great strength to rip open another airlock. Flex then uses his own powers to move deeper into the base, moving through the very wall itself. BlackOut uses the opening to ooze into the Sea Base. Rising above the water, the dark cloud gathers his bearings. He senses something very close by, a very strong life force. Drawn to it like a moth to a flame, BlackOut surges forward.

In the next hallway, Halo heard the noise and came to investigate. BlackOut sees a woman dressed mostly in black with golden gloves, boots, belt, cowl and cape. A golden halo shape is set over her heart.

“What are you?” Halo asks in an incredulous tone. "Who are you?"


At yet another hatch, Powerstone and Black Pearl tag team the door, ripping it away from the building. Water begins to flood the corridor. The Jewel’s of Krin glow a reddish and blackish light inside the invaders chest. Having drained too much power from the jewels, the pair has taken on demonic traits at the sacrifice of their humanity. Their arrival has not gone unnoticed.

“That’s far enough,” Starlord announces. Behind him stand Starboy and White Out. “You’ll not be going any farther.”


Outside the base’s labs, Edwina updates Flow upon the intruder’s location.

“I’m tracking someone moving through the interior of the base itself,” Edwina reports. “Most likely one of your doppelganger’s. They are closing in on the labs.”


GM Notes:

That should give everyone something to do. Tilt-A-Whirl and Whirl-I-Gig can choose their current location at the time of the invasion, since they were moving about so much. If you weren't mentioned, then you didn’t provide a location on your last post. You can be wherever you want to be.

Now what?

[Stargirl]

Stargirl:

“My suggestions would be to use Solar Flare or Plasma Blast against a large group of enemies. The first will blind enemies temporarily, but that also includes any friends caught in the area too. Plasma Blast causes damage. Use a Photon Blast to attack a single foe, or an Ion Blast if the Photon Blast does not bother them. Use your flight to avoid hand-to-hand combat.”

“Okay,” Stargirl answers as if she has no idea what her mother just said. “Easy.”

“YEOW!!” Gloria cries out as the sharp objects close in on her. She can’t help but flinch from the impact and then is surprised to discover that she’s glowing! Furthermore this glow seems to have protected her from harm. Pretty handy to have!

More attacks follow as someone who looks like Starlord, Starboy and White Out appear.

Above the ground, the Star Emperor appears. He gestures and a blast of plasma covers those close to the Unity Device. Goldstar and Stargirl shrug if off with ease as they are immune to their own powers, and the Star Emperor mimics' their powers.

Gloria flinches again, but this time she doesn’t feel a thing from the assault. What was it mom said? We’re immune to our own powers and those of our doubles? While she’s happy to not be hurt, Frosty isn’t as fortunate! Gloria bends down to check on him.

“Frosty! Are you okay?”

Not far away, Star Prince and Ice Queen appear. Star Prince unleashes a Radiation Blast at Nemesis, knocking the teenage girl backwards, but no doing her any real harm. Ice Queen fires off razor sharp icy projectiles, targeting Stargirl. Once more her force field saves her from serious harm.

Stargirl goes to Frostbite’s side, while Goldstar tags Ice Queen with a Photon Blast, making the icy villainess woozy.

Gloria is vaguely aware of the ice hitting her force field while she sees if Frostbite is all right. Looking back, she can see Mom blasting the female Frosty back. She’s woozy, but not out. So Gloria will point her hand at her and cry out, “Photon Blast!” All the while hoping that something happens, so just doesn’t look silly in doing that!

[Stargirl]

Starboy:

“We’ve got a solid mixture of attack forms to choose from. Use Photon Blast or Ion Blast against single targets. Against a large group use a Plasma Burst. In close quarters, use Neutron Star to boost your strength.”

“Ah,” Starboy answers. “That clears everything up.”

But not really. Once the attack comes, I follow Dad and Cindy deeper into the base. We come across a pair of demonic looking versions of Gem. Dad says he’ll take Powerstone, leaving Black Pearl to Cindy and me.

“That’s far enough,” Starlord announces. Behind him stand Starboy and White Out. “You’ll not be going any farther.”

Starboy fires a Photon Blast at Black Pearl.



Star Princess:

Elsewhere outside the base, the real Darkstar flies through the water like a torpedo. Trailing behind her is Star Princess who has Black Ice in tow. Darkstar streaks towards an escape hatch near the upper levels of the Sea Base. In Neutron Star mode, the metal gives way under her stellar enhanced strength. Water explodes into the hallway in the wake of Darkstar’s passage. Star Princess follows and Black Ice is grateful for air.

The three are standing in the water when a bolt of electricity strikes them! The water transmits the blast to all three villains and they go rigid under its affect. Further down the hallway, hovering over the water is Lightning Rod.

“Shocking, isn’t it,” the electrical hero quips.

“You twerp!” Star Princess calls out in anger. She’ll fire a Radiation Blast at this source of annoyance.


Star Prince:

We arrive and battle breaks out. A strange girl that Star Prince never seen before hits dad with some kind of attack that actually seems to harm him!

“That makes you a target, girlie!”

Star Prince fires his Radiation Blast at the girl, knocking her away. Unfortunately, she doesn’t seem to have been harmed by the attack.

Ice Queen attacks my doppelganger, and is in turn attacked back!

“That does it! No one hurts my girl!”

Suring into Neutron Star Mode, Star Prince will fly forward to pummel the one who looks like a female version of his father.

[Goldstar]

Goldstar:

"Goldstar. How hard is this engine? How much would it take to damage it?"

“It’s durable, but I doubt it could withstand many hits by someone in our strength class. But it’s not fragile.”


The attack begins. First come the clones of Tilt-A-Whirl, Tesla, Gloria, Cyrus, and myself. Fortunately, my force field protects me from harm. However, that Plasma Blast did a number on Cyrus. Ionized gas is very hot and it affects Frostbite greatly. Gloria goes to see to him. Nemesis hits Star Emperor with something that does seem to harm him. Most likely sonic in nature.

I use a Photon Blast to hit Ice Queen, as Star Prince would be immune to any of my ranged attacks. However, he seems to be up for a direct attack.

“That does it! No one hurts my girl!”

Switching into Neutron Star mode herself, Goldstar will say, “This is going to hurt you a lot more than it will me.”

Goldstar will try to grab Starboy as he gets closer and then slam him to the floor.



Starlord:

At yet another hatch, Powerstone and Black Pearl tag team the door, ripping it away from the building. Water begins to flood the corridor. The Jewel’s of Krin glow a reddish and blackish light inside the invaders chest. Having drained too much power from the jewels, the pair has taken on demonic traits at the sacrifice of their humanity. Their arrival has not gone unnoticed.

“That’s far enough,” Starlord announces. Behind him stand Starboy and White Out. “You’ll not be going any farther.”

Knowing how tough Gem is, Starlord will shift into Neutron Star mode and engage Powerstone in hand to hand combat.


Darkstar:

Her strength still surging, Darkstar will punch the water before her, trying to have some of it land on the electrical twit. Let’s see how well he likes it!


Star Emperor:

Above the ground, the Star Emperor appears. He gestures and a blast of plasma covers those close to the Unity Device. Goldstar and Stargirl shrug if off with ease as they are immune to their own powers, and the Star Emperor mimics' their powers.

“Interesting,” the Star Emperor observes as the doppelgangers of himself and his son are unaffected by his attack. Clearly, we are all immune to each other energy discharges. But the icy one is not, so he suffers.

From out a nowhere, a girl that Star Emperor has never seen before hits him with an attack that penetrates his defenses! This will not do!

Star Prince did some damage to the girl, but she remains a threat. Bulking up to Neutron Star state, Star Emperor will fly in and slam the girl who dared to attack him!

[Backlash]

Backlash

A second punch is landed, the door bows in even further! Finally, it breaks as someone who looks like Goldstar, but only with a different colored costume smashes through. Dragged behind her is a man wearing a scuba suit. Darkstar lands, looking about for someone to attack. Behind her, two humanoid forms of water rise up in the submarine pen. Electricity plays about the man in the scuba gear as he begins to remove it.


“You look lost pretty boy. Here let me show your way!” Lash says as he moves forward to fight DarkStar. Baclash will go Full Density and move within melee range of Darkstar and start pounding on him with relish!



Karma

The doppelgangers begin entering the room firing this way and that. One of which who fires an attack at nemesis causing her to fly back. Narrowing her eyes at the Star Emperor, ‘That’s no way to treat a lady!” Going Full Density she will attempt a move though on the Star Emperor.(Don’t think Karma Acted the first round)

[Frostbite]

Frostbite

Frostbite isn't as fortunate. The plasma tears through his icy sheath and Frostbite goes down, crying out in pain. He's still conscious, but very disorientated from the attack.

The heat of the attack rips through his icy armor like a hot knife through butter. All his nerves shoot through his body making him scream in pain as he drops to the floor in the fetal position.

Trying to get up with his head reeling from the abuse he just took, he barely hears Gloria, “Frosty! Are you okay?”

Grimmacing, “Yeah, though I think I was left in the oven to long..” trying to shake his head clear.

Frosty will try ad regain his footing, Putting half his points into his armor, All ED.



White Out-

At yet another hatch, Powerstone and Black Pearl tag team the door, ripping it away from the building. Water begins to flood the corridor. The Jewel’s of Krin glow a reddish and blackish light inside the invaders chest. Having drained too much power from the jewels, the pair has taken on demonic traits at the sacrifice of their humanity. Their arrival has not gone unnoticed.

“That’s far enough,” Starlord announces. Behind him stand Starboy and White Out. “You’ll not be going any farther.”

White out will attempt her ice shards attack(RKA+armor piercing) upon Black Pearl.



Not posting evil versions

[Bruce]

Flux

Flux holds his position in spite of the intital attacks. Being slower in terms of reaction time then most, he knows, is sometimes a drawback. But his opposite will be in the same boat no doubt. And Flux recalls a conversation he had with his brother a few days ( and a million or so years ago ) that has a direct bearing on this situation.

The evil version of Backlash appears next, bounding into the chamber. At the same time, Reflux arrives almost completely concealed.

"There!" the male Purple Phlox calls out, pointing with his Crystal Headed Staff. Those looking that way see Reflux phasing up by the unity device!

Yes, as I expected-but not who. Female this time. Same powers? Likely so. This should work then.

Flux considers, and discards the notion of 'taking it easy' on her. Too much at stake to risk. No , full bore straight on in.

Flux expands to large size and drops down to strike decisively on his evil counterpart. This would appear to have been a mistake on his part for two reasons. His new size and weight would in itself place the Unity device at risk and his opponent had not yet solidified herself. But Flux has not dropped his own insubstantially at all. He is still ghostly and weightless!

Ok Bro'. Time to put your notion of 'Like Particle Collision Theory' to the test

[Bruce]

Eldrich Arcane

The attacks are rapid and not entirely focused on the Unity Engine. A bit of animosity and personal bias perhaps? Where then is my evil Opposite?

Eldritch has activated his Amulet and awaits any approach of a foe.

Back on the ground, Eldrich becomes aware of a moving field of darkness near him. It's much like the field Blackout can generate, but yet different. A pair of malevolent eyes and fangs can be seen in the darkness.

A Demon? Here?? No, not a demon, a twisted iteration of an ally. Yet perhaps the same response will serve.

"And the sight of me is all you shall ever savor Dark One."

Eldritch casts his Sunglare spell at the eyes in the darkness.

If neither of my evil Opposites are in this attack here then they must be attacking the seabase. I hope our friends and allies are sufficeint to the task of repelling them

[Bruce]

Reflux

ReFlex goes her own way as always. Whatever the others might do she will get the job done! Maneuvering to the device in question was not hard. Coming out right next to it unnoticed should have been a breeze but somebody blabbed out her position!

I'll get you next Purple boy! And I know just where to jam that stick you got with you too!

ReFlex is not too concerned at being spotted. She is not solid at the moment and will remain that way until all the over-eager trigger-happy people launch off their attacks-on BOTH sides.

Ah yes, brains AND brawn. I really am the total package. Now it just remains for me to prove it-again.

Outside the base's labs, Edwina updates Flow upon the intruder's location.

"Stay on them Edwina! I'm moving to intercept. Guide me in to close proximity."

Whoever/whichever one you are, you won't be killing anyone today. Not on my watch.

[Menagerie]

Menagerie:

"I've never heard of Nithia, but I appologize for disturbing you, Tigereye."

"That's amazing! On my world, you'd be among the most powerful beings there is!”

"Really? That's... well, hard to imagine, really. But I guess it makes sense, if the heroes from your world tend to be less powerful than those here."

Menagerie finds herself in good company down in the sub pens with Backlash, Sea Guard and Sea Queen to keep company with. Every so often, there is a flash and a blur as Tilt and her male counterpart race past. Lily can only shake her head and hope they don't get themselves into more trouble than they can handle.

Suddenly, there is a powerful impact against the sea doors. The sound reverberates throughout the area. Within seconds, the huge portal is rent assunder, allowing the villains to enter. The leader appears to be a doppleganger of Goldstar, which makes her the biggest threat.

"Backlash, think you can keep Fake-Star there occupied for a little bit? SeaGuard, can you and SeaQueen deal with the sparkplug? I think I can deal with your imitators pretty quickly, then help with Goldy's twin."

If the others agree, Menagerie will rise into the air in StarGirl's form and hit the two walking puddles with a Plasma Blast.

Blackout:

Blackout catches his rebounding rod as he evaluates the hit on the strange woman with electricity. It reminds him from what little he knows of their own electric team member, but he doesn't know her well enough to guage what kind of damage he did.

He will move a little bit and throw his rod again, bouncing it from a different angle to keep the villainess guessing. If nothing else, he can keep her occupied until someone else can deal with her directly.

[Blackout]

BlackOut:

"I am the sweet bringer of your death," BlackOut hisses, glowing eyes and fangs from an inky cloud of blackness. He will release tendrils of that same blackness and use them to wrap up this woman so that she is properly bound before he begins feasting on her.

[Tesla]

A bolt of electrical energy streaks in courtesy of Tesla and it knocks Twisterella off her stride. The bolt stings, but isn't enough to put the human whirlwind down.

Tesla concentrates, looking for the one responsible for throwing all those nasty little edged weapons. She thinks she can see a small form in that whirlwind and fires. She hits, causing her to stumble, but not enough to bring her down. Before she can do anything more, a very morbid sight appears.

A second Tesla appears, hovering in mid-air. But this was radically different looking from the regular one. Bits of metal appear to be embedded in her skin and electricity occasionally arcs between them. Having materialized, Tesla fires off her own bolt of lighting, squarely hitting Powershift in the chest. The blast sends him flying backwards.

"Is that.. me?!" Tesla says in disbelief. "Yuck! That looks more hideous than it does painful," she says to herself about all the strange metal and rods stuck in her evil twin's head and shoulders.

She can't be distracted and knows she will probably be wise to take down that speedster before some serious damage is caused. Tesla will fire at her original target with the intent to entangle with her electric cage. Hopefully the electicity will drain some of that speed off of her adversary as well.

[Tesla]

Sinister Tesla:

A second Tesla appears, hovering in mid-air. But this was radically different looking from the regular one. Bits of metal appear to be embedded in her skin and electricity occasionally arcs between them. Having materialized, Tesla fires off her own bolt of lighting, squarely hitting Powershift in the chest. The blast sends him flying backwards.

While Powershift recovers from Dark Tesla's attack, Gem retaliates, sending an energy blast of her own back at Dark Tesla, but it misses.

Tesla cackles in glee, electricity dancing between her metal spikes and rods, creating a wierd halo effect around her head. She locks onto Powershift and sends him sailing back. She's about ready to put another blast into him when a companion of his fires at her wildly. "Ha, ha! Really? Is that what you've got?" she mocks Gem.

However, a second attack does hit the mark! Blackout's rod strikes the evil Tesla in the back of the head! The attack annoys her more than anything, but she can't quite see where the attack came from.

"Ow!" Tesla says and looks around, seeing nothing. "Who's the wise guy?!" she calls out, doubting she'll get an answer. Well, she can take care of that fool after she finishes off Powershift and then Gem. Plenty of electricity for all!

Sinister Tesla will fire another electrical blast at Powershift, not wanting him to be able to recover. She's more than confident that she can put him down before any of these other heroes pose her a serious threat.

Kumiho:

Flying into the Infinity Core complex, Kumiho is using the powers of her teammate ReFlux. Tiny and intangible, it would be hard for anyone to notice or harm her. Pausing for a few moments, she watches to see how things play out. The Q-twins attack Spinner, taking him out quickly. Clearly, these two are powerful and need to be taken down soon.

Flying over to right below where Quazon and Quazar hover, Kumiho shifts her borrowed powers to full density and size. Immediately, she grabs for the Q-tips with her now-gigantic hands and tries to slam them together.

[Menagerie]

Changeling:

The waiting ends as the black hats charge into the Infinity Corp base. The reaction is immediate, and fighting breaks out all around him.

This hideous imitation of Tesla and Lightning Bolt is too much for Changeling to take. A metal rod that he assumes belongs to Blackout strikes the creature, but seems to do little harm. Perhaps he will have better luck. Taking on the form of the girl called Nemesis, he gestures, concentrating on emitting an attack that will harm the electric nightmare.

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Tilt-A-Whirl:

Rushing around the base, Tilt is having a blast seeing if she can beat Whirl-I-Gig before he makes it around the next pass. Of course she can't because he's just as fast, but it passes the time! On one of her runs, she hears someone ahead. She comes upon a tense situation.

In the next hallway, Halo heard the noise and came to investigate. BlackOut sees a woman dressed mostly in black with golden gloves, boots, belt, cowl and cape. A golden halo shape is set over her heart.

“What are you?” Halo asks in an incredulous tone. "Who are you?"

"I am the sweet bringer of your death," BlackOut hisses, glowing eyes and fangs from an inky cloud of blackness. He will release tendrils of that same blackness and use them to wrap up this woman so that she is properly bound before he begins feasting on her.

Tilt wrinkles up her nose at the inky cloud with fangs and eyes. Not sure if there is anything she can actually touch to use her topsy-turvy power on, and not wanting to get her fingers bitten off, she will try to rush up and hit somewhere around where maybe a forehead or side of the head would be.

Whirl-I-Gig:

Rushing around the base, Whirl is having a blast seeing if he can beat Tilt-A-Whirl before she makes it around the next pass. Of course he can't because she's just as fast, but it passes the time! On one of his runs, he hears someone ahead. He comes upon a tense situation.

At yet another hatch, Powerstone and Black Pearl tag team the door, ripping it away from the building. Water begins to flood the corridor. The Jewel’s of Krin glow a reddish and blackish light inside the invaders chest. Having drained too much power from the jewels, the pair has taken on demonic traits at the sacrifice of their humanity. Their arrival has not gone unnoticed.

“That’s far enough,” Starlord announces. Behind him stand Starboy and White Out. “You’ll not be going any farther.”

Whirl will move in and use his whirly-twirly power on Powerstone since he looks like the most serious threat.

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Twisterella & Spinner:

The two of them come spinning in and throw handfuls of spikes and small blades into the heroes. Many hits are made but none of them seem to be overly hurt. Before they can decide their next move, the heroes retaliate.

Their arrival does not go unnoticed. Quazar and Quazon hover overhead hands joined. With their free hands, they fire off a blast of light energy that strikes Spinner, sending him flying backwards across the room. Spinner hits the far wall and slides to the floor unconscious.

"Ha! guessi'mbetterthanyouafterall!" Twisterella mocks Spinner as he hits the far wall and slides into unconsciouness. Soon though she almost regrets those words.

A bolt of electrical energy streaks in courtesy of Tesla and it knocks Twisterella off her stride. The bolt stings, but isn't enough to put the human whirlwind down.

"wooaahh!" Twisterella exclaims almost losing her balance, "okaythatwasn'tverynice!"

Twisterella will see if there is someway to get enough speed or a good angle to run up the wall and wail on that electric hero with her multi-punch. If not, she will judge if she can do a move through on her. If no chance to hit the airborne hero, then she will look for a hero on the ground to use her multi-punch on.

Before combat:

"I've never heard of Nithia, but I apologize for disturbing you, Tigereye."

"Pray that you never do meet her," is all that Tigereye says in response.


GM Notes:

Naturally, nobody here has a clue just who Nithia is. It was something that the games back on Qlink were leading to, but never happened as I left in January of 1994. Turns out it really didn't matter as Qlink ceased operations in October of that same year. Nithia did appear before that time, but this occurred off world in a solo game.

When I did revisit the real Qlink dimension in Avengers #36, it was in a post-Nithia era. The text describe that the world had been devastated by the price it paid to defeat Nithia. In this alternate version of that Qlink world, they weren't as fortunate and Nithia took over the world.

None of that answers the question just who is Nithia. She was a member of the same race as the Beholder, who appeared as part of the LA Knights during some of the stuff I reposted on the HH Productions site. But Nithia was an incredibly powerful beholder. She ranks as the most powerful character that I ever created, clocking in at a whopping 1776 character points!

Now Nithia wasn't an evil character, per se. She was the absolute ruler of an empire in another solar system. She had a small army of offspring that all had superpowers of varying types and degrees. Thanks to the Beholder, she learned that the birthplace of her race still existed. So Nithia ventured to Earth and discovered the state it was in. She knew that she had to do something, as the world was a chaotic mess.

Many people have wanted to save and/or change the world. The thing is that Nithia could actually do this. And so she tried. She would have turned deserts into virgin farmland. She would have removed pollution from the world and repaired the ozone lair. There would be enough food and drink for all. Hunger and disease would be a thing of the past. That was just the tip of the iceberg.

The only downside was that she demanded complete loyalty from everyone on Earth. So in a certain sense she was/would be a benevolent dictator. She would make Earth into a paradise, but the price for it was complete obedience to her. Needless to say, it would have made an interesting situation for the heroes of Qlink to grapple with.

Likewise, Tigereye is a complete mystery as well. I believe that she was the only character to last the entire Young Champions game on Qlink. I never did get to repost any of those. Perhaps I will get to them this time on the Qlink site. Someday.

Some of the other folks and things who popped up here and there during our cross-dimensional extravaganza also appeared first elsewhere, but in things you haven’t seen.

Enough of the back story, on with our regularly scheduled post...

Roll Call: Goldstar, Flux, Blackout, Lavender, Tesla, Changeling, Stargirl, Frostbite, & Karma with Purple Phlox (both), Powershift, Gem, Quazar, Quazon, Hardware, Nemesis, & Bedrock vs. Star Emperor, Reflux, Dark Angel, Dark Tesla, Kumiho, Star Prince, Ice Queen, Backlash, Twisterella & Spinner.

The enemies raid on the Infinity Core has begun! The fighting is in progress!

A could of darkness with a female voice bears down on Eldrich. Before she gets too close, he casts a Sunglare spell creating a flash of bright light. The patch of darkness screams, as if the light is hurting her! The cloud retreats vacating the area post haste.

Frostbite was nearly taken down by a Plasma Blast from Star Emperor. Ice Queen joins in on the act, attacking Stargirl. The young heroines force field saves her from harm. Goldstar hits Ice Queen with a Photon Blast, making her woozy. Stargirl does the same, and Ice Queen goes down.

Changeling’s form shifts and he becomes a duplicate of Nemesis. Unsure just what is going to happen, Changeling points his hands at Sinister Tesla and hopes for the best. A mind blast comes from his forehead and the evil Tesla has no defense for it. The attack makes her woozy, but she remains conscious.

Elsewhere, Kumiho in the form of Reflux rises up from seemingly out of nowhere! She grows and once large enough and slams her hands together violently with Quazar and Quazon in between! The twins force fields save them from much of the damage, but both do fall from the air and hit the ground hard.


Near the Unity Device, Flux has spotted the real Reflux. She’s insubstantial and closing in on the device. Flux is both huge and ghostly acts. He brings his giant sized fist down on the unsuspecting target. Both are intangible, meaning that the real world can’t affect them. But in this state, they can affect each other! Flux’s fist strikes Reflux, sending her rocketing deeper into the Earth. Darkness claims the startled woman and she looses consciousness.


Karma leaps up from seemingly nowhere. She slams into the back of Star Emperor, propelling both of them into the chamber wall. They impact and then fall to the deck below. Star Emperor is hurt and angry. Turning, he strikes Karma in the face, sending her flying backwards. However, the blow just makes Karma stronger.

Mimicking Karma’s move, the evil Backlash plows into Goldstar! The impact sends both of them flying into the Unity Device! Goldstar would have hit first, but she mysteriously just passes harmlessly through the device! The evil Backlash lands on the Unity Device! It is solid to him, but not go Goldstar! This surprises both of them.

“Hey!” Backlash calls out in excitement. “We can touch this thing now! Meaning we can break it!”


GM Notes:

That completes the initial round of combat. Given how the situation has just changed, I didn’t want to go any further. Phase 2 is next, as the opening round of combat always begins on 12, as phase 12 is the only round where everyone can act on.

Can the Unity Device be saved?

Roll Call: Starlord, Flow, Midnight, Mauve, Lightning Rod, Menagerie, Starboy, Tilt-A-Whirl, Whirl-I-Gig, Whiteout, & Backlash with Dr. Mary Beth Williams, Dr. Morgan Williams, Guardian, the Engineer, Tigereye, Sea Guard, Sea Sprite, and Halo vs. Darkstar, Flex, BlackOut, Live Wire, Skinwalker, Star Princess, Black Ice, Recoil, Sea Conqueror, Sea Queen, Powerstone & Black Pearl.

Out at the Vigilant Sea Base, the enemies raid has begun. The sea doors in the Submarine pen have been forced open and several of the enemy comes in. Defenders are there to greet them.

"Backlash, think you can keep Fake-Star there occupied for a little bit? Sea Guard, can you and Sea Spirit deal with the sparkplug? I think I can deal with your imitators pretty quickly, then help with Goldy's twin."

If the others agree, Menagerie will rise into the air in Stargirl's form and hit the two walking puddles with a Plasma Blast.

Sea Guard and Sea Queen act as one. A jet of water is fired from their rings. The water slams into Live Wire, sending him hurtling back into the ocean water! There and without the protection of his scuba suit, his electricity arcs through the water, shocking both Sea Conqueror and Sea Queen! The Plasma Blast that Menagerie follows up with in the form of Stargirl finishes all three of them off!

"You look lost pretty boy. Here let me show your way!" ‘Lash says as he moves forward to fight Darkstar. Backlash will go Full Density and move within melee range of Darkstar and start pounding on him with relish!

Backlash hits Darkstar/Skinwalker and takes her/him down to the deck. Skinwalker isn’t as powerful as the real Darkstar, so Backlash is the stronger of the two and his punches are felt!


At one of the escape hatches, the real Darkstar along with Star Princess and Black Ice have forced their way in. Water floods the area and Lightning Rod uses it to his advantage. The water conducts his electricity, shocking all three of the enemy!

"You twerp!" Star Princess calls out in anger. She'll fire a Radiation Blast at this source of annoyance.

Lightning Rod’s electrical field repels the Radiation Blast, doing no harm to him at all. However, this doesn’t help when Darkstar punches the water before her, causing it to spray up onto Lightning Rod! Effectively grounded, Lightning Rod takes more damage from his own powers than do those in the water!

Black Ice fires off a volley of razor sharp icicles and these punch through Lightning Rod’s electrical field. Blood is spilled and Lightning Rod falls into the water unconscious. A follow up punch from Darkstar puts him down for good.

The three malevolent beings continue on deeper into the base.


At another escape hatch, Powerstone and Black Pearl just forced their way in only to find Starlord, Starboy, and Whiteout waiting for them. Before anyone can attack, Whirl-I-Gig rushes in from seemingly out of nowhere and uses his whirly-twirly power on Powerstone!

Starboy tags Black Pearl with a Photon Blast, but it doesn’t seem to cause her any harm. She advances forward while Whiteout fires ice shards at Black Pearl, but these too don’t seem to do any serious damage. Black Pearl grabs Starboy and violently slams him into the corridor wall! Starboy falls to the deck unconscious.


At yet another hatch, Halo has come across BlackOut. The living cloud of darkness moves forward ravenously, ready to gorge himself on the feast presented to him.

From out of nowhere Tilt-A-Whirl rushes in, breaking the spell. She tries to slap BlackOut along the side of the head. Mostly what it does is get him to focus his attention way from Halo and on to Tilt!



Just outside the base laboratories, Edwina has just alerted Flow to the presence of an intruder moving through the base itself, bypassing the defenses and the walls. It can only be a doppelganger of Flow herself!

"Stay on them Edwina! I'm moving to intercept. Guide me in to close proximity."

Directed by Edwina, Flow moves off into the base, leaving the other protectors behind. In short order she catches up with the evil male version of herself flying through the walls at a tiny size.

That should give everyone something to do.

Eldritch Arcana

Arcana has waited, mindful of her friends and allies situations, to Step in support of any in need. Lightning Rod is now that one. Arcana Steps to his location while activating her Amulet. The corridor is flooded with seawater and Lightning Rod is in it down and bloody.

*Edwina. Recall Lightning Rod to the healers room. I will delay his attackers as best I can.*

Arcana looks at 'Rod's injuries, before he vanishes, steeling herself with the sight of his blood. An unaccustomed anger begins to form in the pit of her stomach.

Callous, brutal, so much like the Raiders of my homeland. I failed to protect the people then, restrained by oaths of obedience. No such barrier impedes me now!

Arcana pursues the trio of Darkstar , Star Princess and Black Ice. She will target Darkstar first with an Eldritch Bolt.

Flow

There! I see you! Pity you don't have anyone helping you or watching your back. This is why you and yours will fail.

Flow has been guided to her target: her evil opposite is ghosting through the walls of the Seabase secure in his belief of safety.

Flow is as silent as he is and just as quick. The advantage lies in knowledge of position and hers is right behind him!

As they both enter a wall Flow springs her attack! She takes her opponent unawares with a choke hold, locking them both in place inside the wall.

And here we stay little man. Until you pass out. No one dies today. Not by your hand. . . .

[Backlash]

Backlash

"Backlash, think you can keep Fake-Star there occupied for a little bit? Sea Guard, can you and Sea Spirit deal with the sparkplug? I think I can deal with your imitators pretty quickly, then help with Goldy's twin."

“Is a frog’s arse watertight?”

Backlash hits Darkstar/Skinwalker and takes her/him down to the deck. Skinwalker isn’t as powerful as the real Darkstar, so Backlash is the stronger of the two and his punches are felt!
Sending a right left combo into Fakestar’s ribs, Lash can feel the impact of his hits and the grimaces of his opponents face. A smirk etches slightly across his lips as he continues his assault.

Karma
Karma leaps up from seemingly nowhere. She slams into the back of Star Emperor, propelling both of them into the chamber wall. They impact and then fall to the deck below. Star Emperor is hurt and angry. Turning, he strikes Karma in the face, sending her flying backwards. However, the blow just makes Karma stronger.

Getting up and rubbing her jaw, where a touch of blood is seen, eyeing Star Emperor with grim satisfaction. For one, annoying him, two, the familiar feeling of her muscles growing stronger and faster from the strike inflicted upon her.

“You’re always picking on people weaker then you. Well,” pushing her hair behind her ear and moving forward. ”Try picking on me!” Karma will try and move into melee range and pound on Star Emperor.

[lavender]

Lavender:

Lavender is content to watch from a safe place the battle that follows. This sort of thing just isn’t her strong suit. But she will teleport away anyone who gets to close to Blackout.

Upon seeing his skill with throwing his, uhm, er, rod, she’ll say, “Whoa! I think I can help you make that even more sneaky.”

Lavender gestures and in turn a small teleport vortex opens up a few feet away.

“Toss it in there. She’ll never see it coming!”

Lavender will have another teleport field set up to bring the rod back to Blackout’s hand.

[Stargirl]

Stargirl:

Grimacing, “Yeah, though I think I was left in the oven to long..” trying to shake his head clear.

“That’s a real nasty power,” Gloria agrees. “Just take it easy for a bit. I’ll protect you.”

Gloria points at her intended target, cries out Photon Blast and it actually works! The icy hussy goes down!

“Wow, maybe it is as easy as mom said!”


The next thing Gloria knows, mom’s hit it seems like she’s going to hit this machine that we’re protecting! But instead she just passes through it like it was just an illusion! Gloria can’t help but look bewildered.

“Mom? Is that supposed to happen?”


Starboy:

Starboy fires a Photon Blast, but it doesn’t affect Black Pearl at all!

“Why didn’t someone tell me that wouldn’t work?!”

The next thing Starboy knows, Pearl grabs him and then darkness falls upon the young solar powered lad.


Star Princess:

Star Princess fires her most powerful attack and it doesn’t even hurt this electrical freak! What’s up with that? She growls her annoyance, but the others take sparky down. The princess will give sparky a kick as she passes, following Mom to their next target.


Star Prince:

“Hey!” Backlash calls out in excitement. “We can touch this thing now! Meaning we can break it!”

“What?” Star Prince calls out in confusion. First this annoying goofball strikes the prince’s intended target, and now it seems that we can complete our mission after all!

Star Prince changes targets. He’ll fly at the machine binding the dimensions together and smash it!

[Goldstar]

Goldstar:

Mimicking Karma’s move, the evil Backlash plows into Goldstar! The impact sends both of them flying into the Unity Device! Goldstar would have hit first, but she mysteriously just passes harmlessly through the device! The evil Backlash lands on the Unity Device! It is solid to him, but not go Goldstar! This surprises both of them.

“Hey!” Backlash calls out in excitement. “We can touch this thing now! Meaning we can break it!”

Goldstar is hopeful that the machine will withstand her impact, but she never ever expected to simply pass through it like a ghost!

“Mom? Is that supposed to happen?”

“No…” Goldstar answers equally bewildered. “I don’t understand what is happening here….”

Standing up, Goldstar will move to stop anyone who tries to smash the machine.


Starlord:

At another escape hatch, Powerstone and Black Pearl just forced their way in only to find Starlord, Starboy, and Whiteout waiting for them. Before anyone can attack, Whirl-I-Gig rushes in from seemingly out of nowhere and uses his whirly-twirly power on Powerstone!

Looking back, Starlord sees that his son’s Photon Blast didn’t harm Black Pearl.

“I forgot to tell him that attack doesn’t always work,” Starlord mentally realizes. Whiteout’s powers don’t seem to do much harm either. Starlord will move closer and punch Black Pearl hoping that Whirl-I-Gig will set her up for him like he did for Powerstone.



Darkstar:

Lightning Rod’s electrical field repels the Radiation Blast, doing no harm to him at all. The twisted electric villainess ignores Blackout's attack, which suits him just fine. He's about ready to attack again when a new tactic is suggested.

Upon seeing his skill with throwing his, uhm, er, rod, she’ll say, “Whoa! I think I can help you make that even more sneaky.”

Lavender gestures and in turn a small teleport vortex opens up a few feet away.

“Toss it in there. She’ll never see it coming!”

Concerned that he'll lose his ability to track the rebound, Blackout trusts in Lavender's ability so he doesn't voice those concerns. Instead he hurls it straight through with enough force to hopefully do more than be an irritant this time...

[Blackout]

BlackOut:

The dark tendrils begin to wrap around Halo and she doesn’t resist. The darkness draws her closer.

"You scheming witch!" he hisses at Halo. "I will enjoy this and ensure you do not." BlackOut will begin to drain her, and there is nothing seductive or arousing about it like so many Hollywood movies wrongly portray.

Tesla:

Despite the new knowledge just learned, Tesla will still attempt to encage the spinning speedster so that she can't rush off to do any damage to the device.

Sinister Tesla:

Changeling’s form shifts and he becomes a duplicate of Nemesis. Unsure just what is going to happen, Changeling points his hands at Sinister Tesla and hopes for the best. A mind blast comes from his forehead and the evil Tesla has no defense for it. The attack makes her woozy, but she remains conscious.

"A hangover without the alcohol thrill! Not fun!" Tesla yells, but she doesn't deviate from her intention of putting Powershift, and then Gem, down for the count with as many electrical blasts as it takes.

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Tilt-A-Whirl:

From out of nowhere Tilt-A-Whirl rushes in, breaking the spell. She tries to slap BlackOut along the side of the head. Mostly what it does is get him to focus his attention way from Halo and on to Tilt!

BlackOut smiles at the young speedster, however the fangs he bares are anything but friendly. He would thank her, but that would distract him for too long from his bound meal before him.

Tilt stares for a moment, not sure why her power didn't work. She didn't feel much solid under there... then the thing turns and smiles at her! It really freaks her out and she starts backing away. Seeing those fangs turn to the helpless woman, Tilt rushes off to go find some help...


Whirl-I-Gig:

After landing his punch, Starlord looks back to Whirl. “Thanks for the assist, Whirl.”

Looking back, Starlord sees that his son’s Photon Blast didn’t harm Black Pearl.

“I forgot to tell him that attack doesn’t always work,” Starlord mentally realizes. Whiteout’s powers don’t seem to do much harm either. Starlord will move closer and punch Black Pearl hoping that Whirl-I-Gig will set her up for him like he did for Powerstone.

Whirl beams with pride and gives Starlord a thumbs up! Seeing as how he is going to go after that Black Pearl woman, Whirl will rush in there and use his whirly-twirly power once again.

When we first created the forum, we created a ranking system for posters. Those who have special ranks do not advance, but those who do get these titles based on how many posts they have.

The rankings are as follows:

Rookie for 1-9 posts
Sidekick for between 10-24 posts
Hero for 25-49 posts
Superhero for 50-99 posts
Pro From Dover for 100-199 posts
Veteran for 200-399 posts
Idol of Millions for 400-799 posts
Golden Age Veteran for 800+ posts
and it all tops at with All Time Legend at 1600 posts.

The term Pro From Dover refers to a type of Champions player. Someone who has to be the best at what they do.
