Eternal Vigilance #73 - "The Gang's All Here!"


Multiple realties have merged in a small area around San Diego. This overlapping has caused beings from other, very similar dimensions to cross over. The Vigilant have encountered evil versions of themselves and even opposite gender copies! The founders of the heroic Vigilant have contacted the team leaders.

“Flux, this is Goldstar. I’m back on Earth. We need to regroup at the sea base and I’ll explain what is going on. Can you make it there under your own power, or should I have you teleported there? Is everyone with you now?”

*Goldstar. We are in contact with hostile forces. Team intact. Have also found allies. If you can teleport ALL of them I give it a 'go'. If not then hold off. I won't abandon allies in a fight.*

“Can do,” Goldstar answers. “Stand by.”

Adjusting the frequency, Goldstar contacts the teams AI Edgar. “Edgar, this is Goldstar. This is a priority Alpha situation. All operational restrictions are rescinded. Link with the Hand of the Guardian and initiate emergency transport of all Vigilant personal and identifiable allies to the Sea Base. Proceed when able. Goldstar out.”

“I’m already in Priority Alpha mode, ma’am.” Edgar answers. “Establishing uplink. Scanning for designated targets. Stand by.”


Roll Call: Goldstar (1), Starlord (3), Tilt-A-Whirl (1), & Whirl-I-Gig (3) vs. Black Ice (2), Ice Queen (4), Star Princess (2), Sun Prince (4) Tesla (2) & Live Wire (4) and introducing: Guardian (5), Quazar (5), Quazon (5), Bedrock, (7), Engineer (7), and Halo (7).

The struggle continues in the core of Infinity Exports. Goldstar arrived with a machine. When activated, her male counterpart Starlord appeared. His machine was activated and then two more groups arrived, the Nightwatch and the Alliance and each had another machine. All four machines merged and are now working to stabilize the dimensional overlaps.

The villainous counterparts already here are not happy about this in the slightest. Black Ice and Ice Queen gesture at the overhead sprinkler lines. They fire shards of razor sharp ice at them and begin to puncture the lines! Water begins to pour in to the control room!

While that is going on the duo of Tilt-A-Whirl and Whirl-I-Gig come rushing back in. The twin speedsters bear down on the cold twins and unleash their disorienting powers. Black Ice finds it hard to concentrate and maintain balance. Ice Queen’s ice shards are being fired randomly about the room and she falls to the floor.

The speedsters start to run off only to find a very angry pair of Darkstar and Star Emperor blocking their path.

“End of the line for your trouble makers”, Star Emperor threatens while a glow comes over Darkstar’s hands.


Down on the floor, Goldstar and Starlord exchange greetings with the heroes of the Nightwatch and the Alliance. Overhead Tesla and Live Wire have been blinded, but gather electrical power about them menacingly.

The evil versions of the children of Goldstar and Starlord, Star Princess and Star Prince hover overhead and then move to attack!

Star Princess calls out “EM PULSE!” and points her hands at the merged machine. Star Prince bulks up and flies into the physically smash them. Neither Goldstar nor Starlord attempt to stop them.

The pulse hits a few beats before Star Prince’s punch. Much to the amazement of both teenagers, their attacks simply pass through the machines as if they were not there!

“These devices are in a state of quantum flux,” Starlord explains to the evil teenagers. “Simply put, to beings with your quantum signatures they simply do not exist. Try as you might, you cannot touch these machines.

Goldstar contacts Edgar, while Starlord speaks with his counterpart Edwina. An emergency transport is arranged. A few moments later, Goldstar, Starlord, Tilt-A-Whirl, Whirl-I-Gig and the members of the Alliance and the Nightwatch are beamed away.

Tesla and her male counterpart unleash their Super Nova attack and flood the area with electrical energy. Coupled with the water, both Black Ice and Ice Queen are knocked out from the attack. Star Prince and Star Princess are damaged and forced back to the ground. An angry Darkstar and Star Emperor shrug off the electrical discharge and look around for someone to blame for this going all wrong.

Elsewhere, reality has shifted for the main group of Vigilant. Downtown San Diego is mostly gone and they are in lightwoods. The masters of this new dimension come forth, determined to deal with invaders to these lands. They are Monarch and Wildfire, a pair of Blood nobles here on the Blood home world of Ean. With them are lesser Blood, but all Blood have super powers of some type! Most fly forward firing off blasts of various forms of energy!

Flux and Flow order their teams to take defensive positions while they speak with the leaders of the new forces. However, Goldstar and Starlord contact them before they can speak. An emergency transport is arranged.

Tesla, Menagerie and Eldrich are dispatched for air support, while Frostbite and Sea Guard are on the ground. Powershift is close to the Purple Phlox while he recovers from Morjok forcibly removing his chest jewel. Their opposite gender counterparts move to do the same.

Frostbite and White Out erect ice walls to block the attacks while everyone else prepares to repel the invaders. Then the, just like that, the heroes and their allies are gone!

The Blood forces move forward to discover that the number of enemies has dropped dramatically. Flex and Reflux in tiny form retrieve Powerstone and Black Pearl and begin to move off, leaving the unconscious Sea Conqueror and Sea Queen behind. Anopheles zombies and Mechanoids appear, battle each other, with both being destroyed by the Blood forces.

“Does this make any sense to you?” Wildfire inquires of her fellow ruler.

“None,” answers the Monarch. “But whatever form these invaders take, they will be beaten back! This I swear in the name of the All-Father!”

Roll Call: Blackout (1), Midnight (3), Lavender (1), & Mauve (3) vs. Backlash (2), Recoil (4), Fenris (2), Twisterella (2), & Spinner (4) & the Mechanonids (10)

Yet another struggle is on going on the nearby rooftops. Lavender just teleported a safe distance away with Blackout. Their opposite gender counterparts, Mauve and Midnight, have done the same. That leaves Twisterella & Spinner with no targets to hurt.

Backlash leaps down the hole and into the building. There, he and his female counterpart grapple with a huge tentacle emerging from lower in the building. With their combined strength they are able to break her free.

Twisterella and Spinner ignore the advancing metal men and spot their targets on a nearby rooftop. They race down the side of the building in an attempt to reach them.

On that rooftop, Blackout suggests that Lavender take them further away to try and figure this out. Before Lavender can act, they are all teleported away by another force! When Twisterella and Spinner arrive the roof is deserted except for more metal men!

Roll Call: Backlash (1), Karma (3), Stargirl (1) & Sunboy (3) vs. BlackOut (2), Dark Angel (4), Kumiho (2), & Skinwalker (4) & Hardware (6), Nemesis (6), & Tigereye (6).

Another struggle continues at the Starr Building. Kumiho, the evil version of Menagerie is attempting to choke the duo of Stargirl and Sunboy. Kumiho feels each of the children triggering their Neutron Star powers, as they are rapidly growing stronger! She decides to bash them into the ceiling, but the kids are just a little bit faster. Stargirl breaks the grip around her neck, while Sunboy kicks Kumiho backwards!

Out in the hallway, Skinwalker just blasted Backlash but instead of hurting him, actually boasted his powers! Enraged, Skinwalker surges forward while Backlash and Karma rush to greet him. Behind all of them, BlackOut and Dark Angel are nearly intertwined patches of darkness. They surge forward in search of prey to devour!


Back inside the office, Edgar chimes in over the loudspeakers. “Emergency transport imitated. Relocating Vigilant and allies to the Sea Base.”

Right after that, Stargirl, Sunboy, both Dr. Williams, Tigereye, Hardware, and Nemesis vanish!

Back out in the hallway, Backlash and Karma are teleported away, leaving Skinwalker to crash into the dark duo of BlackOUt and Dark Angel!

Roll Call: Covenant (2), Areion (1), Serena (1), Serena (2), Turjess (2) & Turjon (4) & the Defenders of the Realm (11): Princess Gwendolyn, Steven of Harpersport, Helena of Kirby House, and Lord Benjamin and Lady Kristin of Grimm Keep.


At what now corresponds to Horton’s Plaza, more duplicates and new arrivals have appeared. Serena, the daughter of Tyrannon himself now stands clad in impossibly tight fitting black. Serena has allied herself with unknown individuals who have overthrown Tyrannon and are transforming him into a weapon of incalculable power. She had been trying to secure the services of her brother Covenant, but he refused. Turjess arrived on the scene next and seemed to be interested in the power Serena was offering.

But then things got more complicated as a second trio of nearly identical beings appeared. There was another Serena, but this time she wore chain mail armor and carried a sword. She was seeking to ally herself with her brother Areion in an effort to restore Tyrannon to his rightful place. The female sorceress Turjon offered her services for a price.

"What do I wish of you? You were speaking of an overthrow, yes? Perhaps it is I who can aid you. For the right price of course. Are you open to negotiation?"

“I speak of liberation,” Serena corrects. “I seek only to restore the natural balance of things, not grab for power that is not rightfully mine.”


The two trio’s regard each other as a group of riders approach. A silver-haired sorceress wearing royal red robes leads the riders.

“I demand to know what is going on here!” the silver haired woman calls out. “I am the Princess Gwendolyn of the Kingdom of Bawstan! You will answer me!”

“I answer to no one!” The Serena in black declares. “I am the power of Thulkos now and you are in my realm! Join with me and power shall be yours! Oppose me and face death!”

“She is the cause of all of this,” the Serena in armor cries out. “Her evil must be stopped and the natural order of things restored! Join with me against her if you are on the side of honor and justice!”

The two Serena’s regard everyone present while they decide which side they are on.

Out at the Sea Base, the large conference room is suddenly filled with forty super powered beings. Everyone in the Vigilant is here, along with many of their allies. Everyone is surprised to find Gloria/Glen Starr here in the guise of Stargirl/Sunboy. Everyone in the vigilant has an opposite gender clone of them. Lavender and Mauve are known to only a few present, and is thus a stranger to most.

But there are unique individuals present. There is Tigereye, Hardware, and Nemesis from an alternate team of Young Champions. Guardian, Quazar, and Quazon represent the Nightwatch from yet a different Earth. Halo, Bedrock, and the Engineer are members of the Alliance from yet a different alternate Earth.

Conversation and introductions follow.

Finally Goldstar and Starlord rise up over the group; their powers flare to get everyone’s attention.

“Please, may I have your attention!” Goldstar and Starlord call out simultaneously.

The two exchange glances and then Starlord says, “Ladies first.”

Goldstar then begins to speak.

“Welcome friends and allies. I know you’re all confused about what is going on here. I shall try to explain the best that I can. As I’m sure you’ve figured out by now, there are alternate realities where things played out different then they did in our reality. In another reality instead of being heroes, you all became villains. And still other realities you were men instead of women and vice-versa.”

“But what all these realities have in common is that in each of them the events that led to the creation of Tesseract occurred. Thus there are multiple Tesseract’s. The one we know, the evil opposite and then a set of the opposite gender. The good Tesseract’s knew this and allied themselves with their good counterparts. The evil Tesseract’s could not accept such a thing and vowed to destroy their good doppelgangers.”

“What we are caught up in know is the struggle between the good Tesseract’s and the evil Tesseract’s. The evil Tesseract’s seek nothing short of the utter annihilation of our dimensions. To this end, they cause Tyrannon, the master of the dimension called Thulkos to be overthrown. This is significant as they are using Tyrannon’s life force to create a Thanatic Rod. The sole purpose of this device is to destroy entire dimensions! Once it is complete, they will use to destroy us. The Thanatic Rod will be taken back in time to the beginning of the multiverse and there detonated. Our dimensions will essentially have never existed.”

“There are two reasons for the overlapping dimensions. The first was so that your evil doppleganger’s could cross over and attack you. Their mission was to destroy you so that you couldn’t interfere with the evil Tesseract’s plans. Secondly, it creates a huge diversion which allows the enemy to carry out their plans unhindered.”

“But the evil Tesseract’s miscalculated. They distrusted their own copies and thus are carrying out their similar plans separately, while the good Tesseract’s are working together. I recently returned from Alpha Prime on the Hand of the Guardian with a device created especially for this situation. It took the overlapping dimensions caused by the evil Tesseract’s and made them even further in sync. Likewise, Starlord created another portion of the machine while our allies among the Nightwatch and the Alliance did the same. The four machines have locked all twelve dimensions together. What this means is that whatever is done to any one of these twelve dimensions, affects all the dimensions. Therefore, we are safe for a time as if the enemy tries to destroy us, they destroy themselves in the process.”

“The time has come for us to take the initiative with all our new allies in the mutual mission of preventing the destruction of our dimensions. We have several missions in mind and our forces will need to be spread among them. Starlord?”

Starlord picks up where Goldstar left off.

“One possible mission is to try and prevent the Thanatic Rod from being created. The problem is that Thulkos is a high magic, low-tech dimension. Much like the realm of Morjok you just encountered, magical abilities are amplified while those with no resistance to magic are twisted.”

“The environment is just one problem to contend with on this mission. The second is that they allied themselves with a woman called Serena, one of the mortal children of Tyrannon. They’ve given her a Darkness Symbiot and magic items to amplify her powers. In addition, she has been recruiting like-minded mages for the defense of Thulkos. Penetrating their defenses will be a very tough battle.”

“Another possibility is that Star Guard scientists are working on creating a Thanatic Shield, a machine that generates a barrier that blocks the powers of the Thanatic Rod. It’s not complete yet. Those involved in that mission, will be taken on board the Hand of the Guardian and back to Alpha Prime to retrieve it. No doubt your evil opposites will try and stop us. This has the advantage of drawing our opposites away from Earth.”

“The machine that is merging our dimensions is in a state of quantum flux, meaning that it only physically exists depending on what dimension you are from. Each dimension has its own unique quantum signature, thus it is possible to determine if a being is from a different dimension or not. But they will find a way to overcome this and will try to destroy the machine. If they do that, then they will be able to attack our dimensions without fear of destroying themselves. The machine must be guarded.”

“I imagine that you have questions of your own to ask. We will try to answer as best we can.”

GM Notes:

Since we’ve moved out of combat with the evil versions of your characters, it is not necessary to post their moves at this time. You can if you want, but it is not required.

Here's the list of all twelve dimensions. The numbers behind each characters name in the roll call refers to which dimension they are from.

1. The regular game world.

2. Inverted version of the regular game world. Heroes in dimension 1 are villains in dimension 2.

3. Similar to the regular game world, except genders are switched. Male heroes in dimension 1 are female in dimension 3.

4. Inverted version of dimension 3. Heroes in dimension 3 are villains in dimension 4.

5. Alternate Earth with different heroes. Those appearing are some old characters I played or created long ago.

6. Alternate Q-Link Dimension where Nithia conquered the world. The three teens are members of that worlds Young Champions.

7. Alternate Earth with yet a different set of heroes, based on some idea's I've been playing around with.

8. Blood Homeworld, where Azor took his children. Monarch was a blood character from the early Q-Link days, and Wildfire appeared in the Old Stuff.

9. Horror world. Dimension conquered by the Anopheles.

10. Dimension where Mechanon's Technological Virus took over. The Technological Virus was featured in the early Crusaders posts on Q-Link.

11. Terra Nova.

12. Thulkos, the magical realm created by Tyrannon the Conqueror.


Now what?

[lavender]

Lavender:

"That makes things easier," Blackout says, finding himself teleported a short distance away. He had set Lavender down, but had kept one hand loosely on her waist. However, with the arrival of all these biomechanical, or whatever they are, entities, he finds it hard to concentrate and sort all this out.

Lavender is definitely enjoying the closeness of Blackout and certainly doesn’t mind his hand around her waist!

"Okay, maybe it is time to pull out of here completely and figure this out," Blackout admits. "Is there someplace you would suggest we start looking?"

“I couldn’t agree more! Almost anywhere is better than here. This all started at the core of Infinity Exports. Perhaps there would be a good place to start, but there are supers there too! Several of them.”

But before Lavender can go any further, another force teleports her and Blackout away. They reappear in a place Lavender’s never been before and there are lots of people here! Some look similar to those who just attacked us, but they are from this dimension, so it can’t be then. This is all so confusing!

“Where are we? Who are all these people?”

Looking around, Lavender realizes that beings from multiple dimensions are present here as well. She starts to say something about it but ultimately just throws her hands up and says, “Oh, I give up!”

Then two very bright beings fly overhead and start to explain things.

“The machine that is merging our dimensions is in a state of quantum flux, meaning that it only physically exists depending on what dimension you are from. Each dimension has its own unique quantum signature, thus it is possible to determine if a being is from a different dimension or not. But they will find a way to overcome this and will try to destroy the machine. If they do that, then they will be able to attack our dimensions without fear of destroying themselves. The machine must be guarded.”

“I guess that makes sense,” Lavender tells Blackout. “I can naturally detect quantum signatures and tell if someone is actually from the dimension they are currently in. As you might have guessed, not only can I teleport, but I can also teleport into other dimensions. That’s what Infinity Exports was using me for. To search other dimensions for valuables they could plunder and such. I was essentially a scout. Not exactly a task I was built for, but one I could do without too much trouble.”

[Stargirl]

Stargirl:

With great effort, Gloria pulls away the hand that’s been choking her. Somehow her body has been filled with superhuman strength! The same happens to Sunboy and he also kicks their attacker away.

The next thing Gloria knows, she and most of those around her are in a different place! Gloria here knows some of the people around, but others are strangers. She keeps a wary eye on the black panther, but is relieved when it changes back into a teenage girl. Who is she? Why didn’t she see them at the clinic before?

Looking around, Gloria spots Frostbite and rushes up to him.

“Frosty! Are you okay?”

Seeing that he doesn’t quite understand what is going on, she adds, “It’s me, Gloria. I don’t know what’s going on either. This outfit just appeared on me and I suddenly have superpowers! It’s been a really weird day!”

The two talk for a little bit until Gloria spots Goldstar.

“I need to talk to her, if she’s really my mom.”

Moving through the crowd, Gloria reaches Goldstar.

“Is that you mom? What’s going on? What’s happening to me?”

[Goldstar]

Goldstar:

After the arrival at the Sea Base, Goldstar takes the time to mingle and speak with her friends and teammates. She is sure that they will have many, many questions.

After a time, Stargirl approaches.

“Is that you mom? What’s going on? What’s happening to me?”

“Come here, baby”, Goldstar answers, her arms open wide. She’ll give her daughter a big hug. “I really have been away too long. How you have grown.”

“As for what’s going on, it’s a bit complicated. You were always meant to be Stargirl, just not this soon. I can only guess that your powers kicked in to protect you during this crisis. They weren’t supposed to surface until you were older and more prepared to deal with them. You’re just going to have to learn on the fly for the time being, so to speak. Someday many, many years from now, you’ll replace me and become the next Goldstar. Then your daughter will become the next Stargirl and so on.”

[Stargirl]

Stargirl:

“Come here, baby”, Goldstar answers, her arms open wide. She’ll give her daughter a big hug. “I really have been away too long. How you have grown.”

“Mom!” Gloria calls out when Goldstar confirms that she is indeed her mother. Without realizing it, Gloria flies the short distance between them.

“That’s really, really weird”, Gloria comments. “You should have told me so that I could have been ready. If I’m to replace you, then does that mean I have the same powers that you do? Then you can teach me what I need to know then?”

[Goldstar]

Goldstar:

“Mom!” Gloria calls out when Goldstar confirms that she is indeed her mother. Without realizing it, Gloria flies the short distance between them.

Goldstar can’t help but smile when her daughter flies towards her. She’s so proud of her child right now.

“That’s really, really weird”, Gloria comments. “You should have told me so that I could have been ready. If I’m to replace you, then does that mean I have the same powers that you do? Then you can teach me what I need to know then?”

“I did what I thought was best. I wanted you to have a normal childhood and teenager years before facing the responsibility that we have. Maybe I should have acted differently.”

“Yes, your powers are essentially the same as mine. Mine are just more potent at this time, but yours will increase as you get older and more comfortable using them. Eventually you’ll be able to shift into Goldstar form like I can, but for right now you’ll remain as you are. You already have the knowledge on how to use your powers you just don’t realize it. As you grew older, your powers would have surfaced normally along with the knowledge on how to use them. This crisis just accelerated everything and you gained your powers before you were ready for them. Instead of slowly growing into your role, you’ve been thrust into it. I understand that this must all seem so overwhelming, but you’ll make it through just fine. You have me to help you and friends and teammates to guide you.”

[Bruce]

Flux

It all goes weird again.The seabase is packed with beings from alternate realities. Goldstar is back from the beyond. She says she is responsible for the merging realities. That her alternates are both allied in this endeavor and opposed to it. That more and worse things are to come. She will take questions. Questions!

I can expand to a great height or fly upwards to the limit of where I can breath but this is and will always be way over my head.

Flux will wait until Goldstar makes the rounds to ask his questions. No sense in raising doubts in front of the strangers.

"Hello 'Star. Depending on how you view it, it's been a long time, or just yesterday. Either way, it's good to see you again. My questions as to deployment can wait a bit. For now I have only one question: will this end it? Will it be over? No more July 5th? Because truly this weekend has been an eternity."

Flux smiles a bit, recalling the last few hours/eons.

"I won't say it hasn't been . . . interesting but it has to end now."

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Tilt-A-Whirl:

The speedsters start to run off only to find a very angry pair of Darkstar and Star Emperor blocking their path.

“End of the line for your trouble makers”, Star Emperor threatens while a glow comes over Darkstar’s hands.

"ohwedontthinkso!" Tilt-A-Whirl and Whirl-I-Gig say in perfect unison as smiles appear on their faces. Only they never get the chance to do anything.

Goldstar contacts Edgar, while Starlord speaks with his counterpart Edwina. An emergency transport is arranged. A few moments later, Goldstar, Starlord, Tilt-A-Whirl, Whirl-I-Gig and the members of the Alliance and the Nightwatch are beamed away.

"Woahthatwascool!" Whirl-I-Gig cries out.

"whoareallthesepeople?" Tilt-A-Whirl says.

Seeing no bad people trying to attack them, the two speedsters run around the room going different directions. They make introductions and move on. Its the fastest pair of introductions anyone else there has probably ever had! When they get back to each other again, the sppedsters compare notes.

"imetallthesereallycoolpeoplefirsttherewas...!" Whirl-I-Gig begins.

"metooyouwontbelievewhoijustmetfirsttherewas...!" Tilt starts.

The two of them completely miss the explinations being offered.

[Goldstar]

Goldstar:

"Hello 'Star. Depending on how you view it, it's been a long time, or just yesterday. Either way, it's good to see you again. My questions as to deployment can wait a bit. For now I have only one question: will this end it? Will it be over? No more July 5th? Because truly this weekend has been an eternity."

“Just to further confuse the issue, technically we’ve never met before,” Goldstar answers with a smile. “I’m not that Goldstar that you knew from before. I haven’t lived billions of years and done all the things that she did. The closest analogy that fits is to just consider her my grandmother. So meeting you, the real you is new to me too.”

Goldstar gives Flux a warm hug.

“I can understand your confusion and frustration. I didn’t realize that you were all caught re-living the same time period over and over again. From my perspective, what transpired before was before I existed. So to me, this July 5th is the only one I’ve been through. Assuming that we are victorious, then things should continue onward as they were meant to be. I’m not really sure how this is all going to play out either or just what Tesseract has in mind. It’s a bit frustrating, but I’m guessing that she doesn’t want anyone to know what her real goal is in this matter. It would just give the enemy a way to find out that information. I am sure that she has a plan that will resolve all of this. Just what that plan is eludes me. So we just carry on with what we do know and do what we can.”

“I am sorry that I couldn’t be here more, but I have taken my mother’s place as the head of the Starguard organization. What goes on there is very important and takes much of my time. Still I should have been here for you and Gloria.”

Flux smiles a bit, recalling the last few hours/eons.

"I won't say it hasn't been . . . interesting but it has to end now."

“In that we are in agreement.”

Seeing no bad people trying to attack them, the two speedsters run around the room going different directions. They make introductions and move on. It’s the fastest pair of introductions anyone else there has probably ever had! When they get back to each other again, the speedsters compare notes.

“Hello, Tilt, how are you?” Goldstar says in greeting as the speedster rushes up and then runs of again before she can finish.

[Blackout]

Blackout:

“I couldn’t agree more! Almost anywhere is better than here. This all started at the core of Infinity Exports. Perhaps there would be a good place to start, but there are supers there too! Several of them.”

But before Lavender can go any further, another force teleports her and Blackout away. They reappear in a place Lavender’s never been before and there are lots of people here! Some look similar to those who just attacked us, but they are from this dimension, so it can’t be then. This is all so confusing!

“Where are we? Who are all these people?”

Before Lavender can wisk us away again, Blackout finds himself in a large room with all sorts of heroes. Several he has met, if only briefly, but there are others he does not recognize. "I know some of those gathered here," Blackout offers. "The rest though are just as unknown to me."

“I guess that makes sense,” Lavender tells Blackout. “I can naturally detect quantum signatures and tell if someone is actually from the dimension they are currently in. As you might have guessed, not only can I teleport, but I can also teleport into other dimensions. That’s what Infinity Exports was using me for. To search other dimensions for valuables they could plunder and such. I was essentially a scout. Not exactly a task I was built for, but one I could do without too much trouble.”

Blackout listens to the explainations as well as what Lavender tells him. It's starting to make some sense now at least, but he hones in on one thing that she says. "Built for?" he asks. "How do you mean that exactly?"

[Tesla]

Tesla:

Out at the Sea Base, the large conference room is suddenly filled with forty super powered beings. Everyone in the Vigilant is here, along with many of their allies. Everyone is surprised to find Gloria/Glen Starr here in the guise of Stargirl/Sunboy. Everyone in the vigilant has an opposite gender clone of them. Lavender and Mauve are known to only a few present, and is thus a stranger to most.

The conference room gets crowded quickly. Tesla does her best to greet everyone she does know and spend a couple minutes learning just who else is here. Then Goldstar and Starlord call for attention and Tesla joins with the others in learning just what is going on.

“Welcome friends and allies. I know you’re all confused about what is going on here. I shall try to explain the best that I can. As I’m sure you’ve figured out by now, there are alternate realities where things played out different then they did in our reality. In another reality instead of being heroes, you all became villains. And still other realities you were men instead of women and vice-versa.”

Tesla thinks about villainous alter-egos and wonders just what hers might be like. She can't imagine having taken a different path than the one she is on now, but with alternate realities, even the smallest change could have affected her drastically.

She then listens to the tasks that all of them must figure out how to complete. Tesla has no desire to deal with magical realms again anytime soon, given how strange things were in the last one. Flux converses briefly with Goldstar, but Tesla is sure there will still be more discussions. She will wait a while longer to see what transpires.

[lavender]

Lavender:

Blackout listens to the explanations as well as what Lavender tells him. It's starting to make some sense now at least, but he hones in on one thing that she says. "Built for?" he asks. "How do you mean that exactly?"

Lavender can’t help but chuckle at Blackout’s comment. “I guess we’re going to cuddle and share deep, dark secrets after all!”

Stepping away from the others, Lavender begins to tell her tale.

“My father was a syringe, my mother a test tube. I wasn’t born I was created. Nowhere around here either, but on a world far away. I didn’t grow up or have a childhood. I’ve always looked like this.”

“Out in space, there is this alien race of insects called the Molders by the galactic community. Think of a horse-sized cockroach and you’ll have a good idea what they look like. Yeah, really gross. Bugs still freak me out to this day.”

“Humanoids dominate the galaxy and so the Molders were at a disadvantage. So they decided to create a super-powered humanoid slave race to do their bidding and act as intermediaries with the other races. I was created to move Molder’s about and to obey their instructions. I was the result of their work.”

“However, when I was ‘born’ I didn’t have any powers at all. They couldn’t figure out why and so I was deemed a failure. They then programmed me with all the social skills necessary to be a private and personal companion and sold me off as a slave. I ended up as the pet of the captain of a group of space pirates and traveled the galaxy fulfilling his every desire because I could not refuse.”

It’s clear that Lavender doesn’t like recalling those dark times in her life.

“That lasted about three years. Then one day my powers did kick in. I guess they had just been delayed or something. I could teleport myself and others at will, even travel through dimensions. I kept my powers a secret and managed to escape from them. I traveled about for a time, but would always fall under someone’s influence as I was created to obey instructions.”

“I ended up as the pet of the commander of Infinity Export’s security. They used me to scout out other dimensions that they could plunder. That creature you encountered earlier, the Maxtik is from another dimension. It’s intelligent, but a predator. It paid IE to take it to other dimensions so that it could hunt new prey. It wasn’t allowed to hunt here on Earth, but it escaped and did so anyway. I was trying to track it down when we met.”

“Given what happed at IE’s core, I’m assuming that my former owner isn’t with us any more, so I don’t have to obey him any more. At least until someone else comes along.”

After a pause Lavender adds, “You could be that someone if you’d like. You seem like a really nice guy, fair better than anyone I’ve had before. You want to hold my leash?”

[GM Mad]

Small Update:

As the two large groups mingle, it is inevitable that some seek out their doppelgangers. Dr. Mary Beth Williams comes face to face with Dr. Morgan Williams.

“So you’re me in another dimension,” Mary Beth inquires.

“And you’re me as well,” Morgan responds. “A fascinating situation.”

“So you can duplicate at will?”

“Yes,” Morgan answers. “I can create as many as sixteen copies, but I rarely do that.”

“Sixteen?! That’s incredible! I can only create one other copy. Is it a problem to have that many you’s running around?”

“It’s copy degradation syndrome,” Morgan says. “The further you are from the original, the more dissimilar the copies become. So I typically only have as many as four copies at one time, some times eight, but hardly ever sixteen.”

“And you’re psionic too?”

“No,” Morgan responds in surprise. “Other than my great scientific intellect, I have no other abilities. You can duplicate and possess psionics too? Maybe we’re not exact copies of each other.”


And close by, Powershift and Gem and Sea Guard and Sea Sprite become better acquainted.

“This is very strange,” Sea Guard tells Powershift. “From what I can tell, Sea Sprite here has lived the same life that I have. The only difference between us is that she’s a girl and I’m a boy.”

“So I have gathered from Gem here,” Powershift answers.

“Your evil copies seemed more powerful, more demonic,” Sea Sprite observes of Powershift and Gem. “Why is that.”

“The jewel in our chests imprisons the spirit of a demoness,” Gem explains. Powershift nods in agreement. “We can safely tap into her power up to a certain point. If we go beyond that point, then the demonic taint begins to affect us.”

“Clearly our evil doppelganger’s sought that much power and paid the price for it with their souls.”


Not far away, the heroine from yet a different Earth, Halo, takes all of this in. She’s a full figured blond hair woman wearing an all black, non-reflective body suit with golden boots, belt, gloves and combination cowl and cape. A golden halo covers her heart.

“Wow, we have no where near as many supers back at home,” Halo observes. Those close to her can’t help but notice her blue eyes. There is something entrancing about them. “With this many super heroes, there has to be many more villains too. I’m not sure that I’d like that or not. The ones we have are bad enough!”

[Goldstar]

Goldstar:

Goldstar mingles, making sure to say hello to everyone on the Vigilant. While speaking to Blackout, Goldstar realizes that there is a stranger present clad in tight lavender colored clothes.

“We haven’t been properly introduced. I’m Goldstar and you are?”


Later following up on Starlord’s outlining of the missions, Goldstar adds, “Clearly, only those with magical abilities should go on the mission to Thulkos. That should include Eldrich, the Purple Phlox, Powershift, and Sea Guard. Menagerie, in the form of a magical hero, would work as well. And your extra-dimensional counterparts, of course.”

“The other two missions are very different. Those going to the Infinity Core would be faced with a defensive struggle, attempting to stop enemy attackers. Those going with me to Alpha Prime will be chased instead. Stargirl will accompany me for sure; as for the rest of you make your choice. Obviously, those you more geared for combat would be better suited for the Infinity Core assignment.”

[Stargirl]

Stargirl:

“Uhm, hello?” Gloria manages to answer before the person who just suddenly appeared before her is gone again. “What was that all about?”

“I did what I thought was best. I wanted you to have a normal childhood and teenager years before facing the responsibility that we have. Maybe I should have acted differently.”

Gloria sighs slightly. “Don’t worry about it, mom. What’s done is done. I just have to rise and shine on my own.”

“Yes, your powers are essentially the same as mine. Mine are just more potent at this time, but yours will increase, as you get older and more comfortable using them. Eventually you’ll be able to shift into Goldstar form like I can, but for right now you’ll remain as you are. You already have the knowledge on how to use your powers you just don’t realize it. As you grew older, your powers would have surfaced normally along with the knowledge on how to use them. This crisis just accelerated everything and you gained your powers before you were ready for them. Instead of slowly growing into your role, you’ve been thrust into it. I understand that this must all seem so overwhelming, but you’ll make it through just fine. You have me to help you and friends and teammates to guide you.”

“I guess that makes sense,” Gloria answers, but she doesn’t sound very convincing. “It’s good to have you back, mom.”

“The other two missions are very different. Those going to the Infinity Core would be faced with a defensive struggle, attempting to stop enemy attackers. Those going with me to Alpha Prime will be chased instead. Stargirl will accompany me for sure; as for the rest of you make your choice. Obviously, those you more geared for combat would be better suited for the Infinity Core assignment.”

That fact that she’ll be going with mother, brings a smile to Gloria’s face. It makes her feel better.

“You coming with us, Frosty?”

Backlash & Karma

Back inside the office, Edgar chimes in over the loudspeakers. “Emergency transport imitated. Relocating Vigilant and allies to the Sea Base.”

“I hate this.” Lash says as he rushes forward. “Edgar your timing is horrible.”

“You ruin all my fun!” karma says as he is caught mid step.

Within moments they are standing in a room with many other supers, some known some not so much. Looking around they cant but feel overwhelmed.

“What’s going on?” Karma asks.

“Yeah, What’s the deal.”

Looking around they wondered which mission would envolve, “Protecting the scientists sounds up my alley.”

“I don’t know which one would be more beneficial.” Karma adds.

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Tilt-A-Whirl & Whirl-I-Gig:

"we'llgo!" the two speedsters say in unison.

[Frostbite]

Frostbite(not postng whiteout)

Looking around, Gloria spots Frostbite and rushes up to him.

“Frosty! Are you okay?”

“Yeah, Im alright.” looking at the girl before him quizzically though the voice sounds vaguely familiar.

Seeing that he doesn’t quite understand what is going on, she adds, “It’s me, Gloria. I don’t know what’s going on either. This outfit just appeared on me and I suddenly have superpowers! It’s been a really weird day!”

The two talk for a little bit until Gloria spots Goldstar.

“What? Gloria?” he asks looking into her masked face. “Why are you dressed like that?” within a few moments it is revealed that she has super powers!
He weill talked with her for several moments explaining what happened to him since he left her.

“I need to talk to her, if she’s really my mom.”

“She’s your mom!?” he said his icy features in shock at both her having powers and her mom being a super hero!

As she walks to talk with her mother a conversation catches his ear.

“Excuse me, did you say Infinity Exports?” he asks a women in lavender whom clothes barely fit. “My father works there. Silently hoping it wasn’t his father behind all this.

That fact that she’ll be going with mother, brings a smile to Gloria’s face. It makes her feel better.

“You coming with us, Frosty?”

“Yeah, count me in.”

[Tesla]

Tesla:

“The other two missions are very different. Those going to the Infinity Core would be faced with a defensive struggle, attempting to stop enemy attackers. "The Infinity Core assignment seems like the best choice for me then," Tesla responds. Being chased or dealing with another magical realm are not really situations she feels she could benefit the others with.

[Blackout]

Lavender can’t help but chuckle at Blackout’s comment. “I guess we’re going to cuddle and share deep, dark secrets after all!”

If nothing else, it would teach you ways to defend yourself better from internal and external foes."

Blackout then says, "As far as you and me, I would be a fool to not want to be with you, if that is what you truly wish too. However, I think we should focus on what I said earlier and let everything else run its course and see where we end up. What do you think?"

"So you and I have never met before?? The Goldstar I know, knew, is not here?"

Yes, I just have to get past this weekend, then it will all be ok. Past. This. Weekend.

Flux shakes it off. Either there will be time to sort it later-or he won't remember it--again.

"Based on your statements previously made I assume that a full force of enemy combatants will be sent to destroy the unifying device. Since you have stated that the Tesseract's are not acting together it is possible that TWO separate attacks will be made against it. If we can make an educated guess as to who will be sent that will go a ways towards deciding who defends it."

"Next point: It is better to give than to receive. By that I mean simply it is better to attack their one weapon of destruction-remove it entirely- then to defend against it with shields and blocks indefinitely. Environment issues and all, I believe it better to attack them in the realm of Thulkos. Without their big gun, they cannot destroy ANY dimensions and no more defenses are necessary. If we can find ways to modify ourselves to operate there the advantages are in our favor. Any ideas on that Gold?"

That just leaves the situation between us, which is manageable. This arrangement is certainly better than any other one that I’ve had. You’ll find that I’m really handy to have around.”

I can even alter velocities and orientation when teleporting, so things such as momentum and gravity can be compensated for.”

“So you’re the leader of all these folks? That’s a job you can have!”

“I’m very familiar with their layout,” Lavender adds. “I’d probably be most helpful there too. I’d just assume not be on a spaceship again so soon. A bit too enclosed for my tastes.”

“I was right, you are a nice guy! I really do appreciate the offer, but this is the way I was made. I’m not sure it can be overcome. What I do know is that if you don’t hold my leash, then someone else can. For instance, if you do have my leash, then I have to obey you, but no one else. But you don’t have to tell what to do all the time. It just ensures that no one else can make me work for them. Thus I am safe from being controlled by anyone else. Blackout doesn't look overly thrilled at the options, but there doesn't seem to be any other choice, at least for now. "I can't say that this is what I want, but I definitely don't want you to fall in with any other unsavory characters. Ever. It also doesn't mean that I'm not going to rest until we figure out some way for you to be free completely. I can't go into this thinking of you as anything less than my equal at the very least. No matter how long it takes, I won't give up on that. You have my promise on it."

Blackout pauses again before finally giving in, "So what do I need to do in order to be 'holding your leash' as it were?"

[Goldstar]

Goldstar:

“That sounds just stellar to me,” Goldstar answers with a smile.

"I guess that makes sense," Gloria answers, but she doesn't sound very convincing. "It's good to have you back, mom."

“Hi, I’m Lavender. I’m what you would call a world-class teleporter that had been working for Infinity Exports. I can teleport myself and others or just teleport other beings. I can even alter velocities and orientation when teleporting, so things such as momentum and gravity can be compensated for.”

“That’s quite impressive,” Goldstar answers. “I’m glad to have you on our side.”

“So you’re the leader of all these folks? That’s a job you can have!”

“Only while in town,” Goldstar says with a grin. “Otherwise, it’s Flux’s job. Too much paperwork for my tastes.”

"So you and I have never met before?? The Goldstar I know, knew, is not here?"

“It’s complicated,” Goldstar answers shifting uncomfortably. “I have memories of the Goldstar you knew, to a point at least, but I know that it wasn’t me who did all those things.”

“It must be really confusing from your perspective. Two days or so ago, Goldstar was created in the accident that you called the White Event. She was brand new, was very powerful, but didn’t have an intellect to match.”

“Yesterday, you met a Goldstar in the far, far future who had been stranded in the past twice, and was by that time over two billion years old. She was more intelligent and even far more powerful then you recalled. She turned into a living black hole and destroyed Earth’s solar system so that you could escape.”

“That brings you to day, but to Goldstar this wasn’t her next day. She, Rose and Edgar all expected to be wiped out of existence when history was changed. But Tesseract kept them around to aid her. And so all three of them were sent back to the beginning of the universe once more.”

“Goldstar nudged an asteroid some 65 million years ago into a collision course with Earth, wiping out the dinosaurs and ensuring that Saurians would not come to be. She laid the foundation for the creation of the Star Guard, a galaxy-spanning organization that protects planets from those who would take advantage of them.”

“But Goldstar also continued to age and become more powerful. By now, she’s around 18 billion years old. A number I can’t even begin to fathom! But as she became more powerful, it became harder and harder for her to relate to ordinary people. Goldstar was always a star in human form, but as she aged, she became more star than human. Eventually she flew off into space and transformed into a star. That’s where she is right now, one of the lights in the night sky.”

“Thus it became necessary to replace the original Goldstar to carry on her work. This had already been done with the Stargirl you met in the alternate Earth, so a template was already there. The new Goldstar was engineered to be more human than star. While she shared some of the powers of the original they were also limited. She wasn’t immortal either, she was fully human and could have children.”

“This was my mother, Grace Starr. She amassed the fortune necessary to fund the Vigilant. The Sea Base was actually built centuries ago when it could be done unnoticed. It was just hidden until it was later needed. The Starr Building had to be raised much later, during a normal construction phase. But both structures are very special. Unique metals not currently existing on Earth were incorporated into their construction. These metals turn them into dimensional and temporal anchors. The fabric of space and time is naturally weak here in San Diego; these buildings would shore them up. That’s why neither of those buildings were altered when the dimensions shifted.”

“Grace married and had a daughter named Gwen. That would be me. The time wasn’t right for the superheroine Goldstar to appear, so she lived a mostly normal life. Much like me now, she spent most of her time off world overseeing the works of the Star Guard.”

“In time I took my mother’s place and became the Goldstar who founded the Vigilant. Once that was in place, I could concentrate on the Star Guard. I had a daughter named Gloria, and one day she’ll replace me. The Goldstar powers are passed down true from mother to daughter. The daughter is Stargirl until she becomes powerful enough to become the next Goldstar.”

Environment issues and all, I believe it better to attack them in the realm of Thulkos. Without their big gun, they cannot destroy ANY dimensions and no more defenses are necessary. If we can find ways to modify ourselves to operate there the advantages are in our favor. Any ideas on that Gold?"

Goldstar actually seems surprised at this line of thought. She considers for a moment and then leans forward and kisses Flux on the lips!

“That is brilliant! Why did we consider that? Never mind, but yes, it should be possible using the same technology used here in the Sea Base. A type of force field for each person to block out the affects of the magical dimension and leaving them in a pocket of their home dimension.”

“Edgar, have you been listening to this? Can you create something that will do what we describe?”

[Stargirl]

Stargirl:

"What? Gloria?" he asks looking into her masked face. "Why are you dressed like that?" within a few moments it is revealed that she has super powers!

“I wish I knew! It just appeared on me when things went wonky.”

"She's your mom!?" he said his icy features in shock at both her having powers and her mom being a super hero!

“Hey, it’s surprise to me too! I never imagined anything like this happening to me.”

"Yeah, count me in."

“Glad to have you along, Frosty,” Stargirl says taking his hand.


Stargirl listens as her mother reveals a long history of Goldstar and it seems that there were other ones too! The whole thing makes Gloria’s mind boggle!

“I think I have headache,” Stargirl complains. “Does this mean that if I have a daughter, I have to name her something that starts with a G?”

[lavender]

Lavender:

Blackout doesn't look overly thrilled at the options, but there doesn't seem to be any other choice, at least for now. "I can't say that this is what I want, but I definitely don't want you to fall in with any other unsavory characters. Ever. It also doesn't mean that I'm not going to rest until we figure out some way for you to be free completely. I can't go into this thinking of you as anything less than my equal at the very least. No matter how long it takes, I won't give up on that. You have my promise on it."

“That is so sweet…”, Lavender starts to say, tears welling up in her eyes. “No one has ever been so nice to me before. I think this is the start of something wonderful.”

Blackout pauses again before finally giving in, "So what do I need to do in order to be 'holding your leash' as it were?"

Reaching out, Lavender hugs Blackout. “You’ve already done it, hon. I’m yours to command, should choose too, or course. The only orders I will obey are yours. What do you want to do now?”

[Menagerie]

Menagerie & Changeling:

Just as they are preparing to repell this new attack, suddenly they are gone! An instant later, they find themselves in the Vigilant's Sea Base. Menagerie and Changeling are both still holding Eldrich / Eldritch.

Settling to the ground, Menagerie releases Eldrich. "'Thank you for flying Air Menagerie. Be sure to collect any carry-on luggage before you depart," she says with a grin.

Changeling does likewise. "Until next time, Eldritch," he says with a flirtatious smile.

Before too much conversation can take place, Goldstar and Starlord address the assembled heroes. Goldstar describes the current situation and what led to it. Starlord takes over and describes several missions that the group could or should take to resolve the situation.

Tilt zips by, barely pausing to say hi. "Hello, Tilt-A-Whirl. Nice to see you again." Of course, the youngster is long gone before Lily can get half those words out of her mouth.

Returning to her own natural form, Menagerie moves closer to Goldstar and Flux to hear what Goldy has to say. "It's good to meet you, Goldstar - again. I have to agree with Flux in that this has been just a bit to crazy lately. I feel like I hardly know what world to call my own any more. And as nice as Changeling seems to be, four of me is really more than I can take. Heck, two of Flux is more than I can take," she finishes with a laugh and a friendly grin at Flux.

Goldstar and Flux discuss the situation a bit more deeply, with this new Stargirl entering the conversation. In truth, much of this is a bit beyond Menagerie, though she can mostly catch the basic premises.

Then the subject of the missions comes up once again. "I suspect that I could fit into any of the missions with my ability to duplicate others. I'll leave it up to you two to choose the best use for my powers."

Strangely, Changeling and those from his dimension have eerily similar discussions on the other side of the room...

Kumiho & Skinwalker:

Boosting their strength, the two kids she's attempting to kill manage to free themselves from her grasp. Not one to be put off so easily, she turns for another flying attack. Just as she does so, both children suddenly vanish. Kumiho stops, surprised.

"@#$% it! How am I supposed to kill anyone if they just teleport away!? Cowards!"

Skinwalker has a similar experience as those he's gunning for suddenly 'port out of the room. At the speed he's moving at, it takes him a moment to stop and he nearly collides with the wall before he can stop. Looking about, he sees no sign of them, or any of their other targets.

"Gone! @#$% it!"

Hearing Skinwalker's exclamation and seeing that he's had a similar disappointment, she looks back at him. "Perhaps there are still others in the building that we can play with. If not, at least we should be able to cripple that meddling AI."

Skinwalker smiles evilly. "Count me in."

The pair move off, searching the building from top to bottom for any victims to toy with. As they go, they destroy every computer and sensor they can find in an attempt to blind Edgar. Finding his central core would be that much sweeter, as a combination of physical destruction and radiation blasts should make eLife very difficult for him...
