Eternal Vigilance #69 - "Double Trouble"


While Morjok has failed in his attempt to force the Twilight Realm to overwrite Earth's dimension, someone else has succeeded! Earth's dimension has not been overwritten per se; eleven other dimensions are simultaneously crossing over and overlapping it! San Diego has shifted into a nightmarish version of itself and malevolent, but familiar, powered individuals have been turning up. Their mission seems to be to destroy the Vigilant!

Roll Call: Tilt-A-Whirl vs. Frostbite, Stargirl, & Tesla

Deep in the core of Infinity Exports, Tilt-A-Whirl has just witnessed the dimension-ripping device used to cross between realities thrown into overdrive. Eleven other dimensions have been forcibly opened up and are merging with this reality! The architect of this disaster is someone who looks a lot like Goldstar, but wears different colors. Darkstar converses with Tilt as she works.

"thisisaprettycoolmovie!" Tilt says excitedly, "butwherearealltheotherpeople? ibetalotofpeoplewouldlovetoseethis!"

"The people?" Darkstar answers with a malevolent glance. "There's no need for them to see this. After all they are all out there living it! Everyone you know is caught up in this. Isn't that delightful?"

Down below, three other super powered beings are present. Darkstar's daughter, Stargirl is there along with her main man Frostbite. A dark and twisted version of Tesla is present. She has hunks and pieces of metal embedded in her skin and electricity arcs about them every so often. Stargirl hovers overhead while Frostbite coats the main entrance with ice, sealing it off.

Sinister Tesla rises up; the electricity she absorbed from the Infinity Exports Generators still plays about her body. Occasionally an arc leaps off her body to the numerous pieces of metal in the vast chamber. One large bolt leaps from Tesla's body towards Tilt's location! It smashes into the control area, but Tilt-A-Whirl simply dashes away from it. The electrical energy arcs about the controls, blowing them out as it moves through the room.

Darkstar seems unaffected by the display of energy. She looks in Tilt's direction.

"My friends just want to play with you," she says in a mocking tone. "And you can do is run away. How rude. Run as fast as you can, little girl, run if you value your life!"

Roll Call: Flux, Menagerie, Tesla, Eldrich, Frostbite, Gargoyle, Xanaphia, Purple Phlox, Powershift, & Sea Guard vs. Flex, Powerstone, & Sea Conqueror

Reality has shifted once more! While the mind-boggling Twilight Realm is no longer exists, this new San Diego is not a familiar one either. It lies in ruins and is overgrown with vines and other vegetation. Nightmarish creatures stalk the streets like monsters from a horror movie. A horde of zombie-like humans advances on the Vigilant!

Edgar contacts the team, altering them that eleven other dimensions are currently co-existing along with your dimension, that two extra-dimensional entities are invading the Starr Building, and lastly that the source of all this chaos is the Infinity Exports platform some twenty miles out to sea.

Flux orders everyone back to the Starr Building and away from the current danger. Tesla and Xanaphia take flight. Flux waits as Sea Guard helps a still groggy Powershift into Flux’s giant sized hand. Frostbite gestures and a whiteout settles in over the advancing creatures. Frosty then jumps into Flux’s hand.

The Purple Phlox pauses for a moment.

“What about Morjok?” She calls out.

But looking back the mage is obscured from sight due to the white out. Only Gargoyle remains behind, standing on the edge of the blizzard. One of the creatures leaps from the whiteout and tries to impale the Gargoyle with on its spikes. The spikes fail to penetrate the hulking brute’s skin. The Gargoyle flings his attacker way with ridiculous ease.

“I guess he’s on his own now,” the Purple Phlox quietly adds. Taking her Crystal Staff in hand, the Purple Phlox rises into the air, leaving Gargoyle alone.

Behind the mystic heroine, more and more of the creatures swarm Gargoyle, trying to impale him. But none can penetrate his thick hide and these creatures are tossed aside like a child’s toy. Finally, the Gargoyle leaps away leaving the creatures in search of new pray.

Menagerie in the form of Goldstar carries Eldrich along with her, suggests an alternative strategy.

"Boss, I think we may want to head straight to this Infinity exports site. That seems to be the source of the emergency." Before Flux can respond, Menagerie adds another suggestion. "Or perhaps we should split into two teams and hit both locations..."

Menagerie is suddenly cut off in mid-sentence when a globe of water appears around her and Eldrich! The water tries to force itself into their lungs. Menagerie panics at first, but quickly releases that in her current state she does not have to breath. Thus it is impossible for her to drown. But Eldrich isn’t as fortunate! He begins to cough and choke as the water forces itself into his lungs!

A beam of reddish energy comes out of nowhere, striking Flux square in the chest. It stings, but doesn’t do the giant-sized hero any great harm. Looking forward, you can see a vaguely familiar man floating in the air ahead. He’s a powerfully built man dressed in skin-tight green and orange. His chest is open and there, just under the skin, something reddish pulsates. He looks like Powershift, but that can’t be possible as Powershift is in Flux’s hand! This other Powershift glows with red energy giving him an almost demonic look.

Something slams into Gargoyle’s back, forcing the behemoth off the course of his leap. The hulking man is sent plummeting back towards the ground where he crashes with a resounding thud! The man-beast shakes off the attack and pulls himself back up. Glancing around, the Gargoyle cannot locate his attacker!

The rest of the Vigilant hang in the air while this is going on.

Roll Call: Blackout and Lavender vs. Backlash, Fenris, and Twisterella

Elsewhere in the transformed San Diego Lavender has rejoined Blackout. But he’s not alone. The mysterious Fenris is present, as are two other vaguely familiar beings. Taunts are exchanged and the battle begins!

Twisterella spins at superhuman speeds, moving across the rooftop like a human top! She flings spikes at the heroes as she moves about!

The tiny projectiles swarm Blackout and Lavender. Blackout withstands the onslaught fairly well, while Lavender is bleeding in several places. The lavender clad woman is still conscious.

The evil version of Backlash leaps at Lavender, intent upon crushing her. Blackout throws his rod and it strikes Backlash squarely in the chest doing some damage, but not altering the man’s course.

Lavender fights through the pain of her wounds and brings her own powers into play. The area before Backlash twists and distorts and he simply disappears before reaching his intended target.

Backlash reappears close to Twisterella, but she spins easily out of harm’s way. Instead, Backlash smashes into the roof passing through it! He falls into the building below.

Almost lost in the background, Fenris has changed locations once more

Roll Call: Backlash & Stargirl vs. BlackOut & Menagerie

Strangely enough, the Starr Building and everyone inside it is unaffected by the shift in realities. Almost everyone, as Gloria Starr has inexplicably been transformed into Stargirl!

“What is happening to me?” Gloria cries out. “What is the meaning of this? Can you explain this?”

“Long story short,” Dr. Williams answers. “You’re Stargirl. Your mother is Goldstar and you’ve inherited her powers. However, they weren’t supposed to manifest themselves just yet, so you’re unprepared for them. They weren’t supposed to surface until you were a little bit older and able to deal with all of this. You’re young, so you don’t have the full scope of powers that your mother has. But you can project various blasts of energy, fly, and create an energy field for protection. You have the power of a star in the palm of your hands. Looks like what is happening has triggered your powers to appear earlier than planned. You’re subconscious knows what it can do, that information has just be kept from you until now. You’ll just have to learn on the fly.”

“Well they sure ain’t the girl scouts or the Avon Lady! Edgar, Lock down the area around them if able. Its time to show our guests, our welcoming committee,” tightening his gloves on his hands.

“Activating defensive countermeasures now.” Edgar announces.

“This is a priority alpha situation,” Dr. Williams says to Edgar. “You may operate at full capacity.”

“Understood, madam”, Edgar answers.

While a confused Stargirl watches, Backlash steps out into the hallway. As he does so, he passes through an energy field inside the doorjamb. The energy does not harm him in the slightest nor bar his passage.

Backlash will move toward at full density, “You came at a good time, I was just getting bored. Come and take your best shot!”

Out in the hallway, the invaders draw closer and they are not what anyone expected. Leading the way is what looks more like a field of darkness with malevolent red eyes and Vampiric fangs. Flying close by is a woman who looks a lot like Goldstar, but in a completely different color scheme.

Backlash rushes forward to engage the invaders. As he does so, tendrils of blackness rush forth and wrap around his limbs! Backlash strains against the force imprisoning him and manages to shatter the tendrils, freeing himself.

While that was going on, the Goldstar clone flew on past. Reaching the doorway, she lands and energy gathers about her hands.

"Eat this, princess," she says as she unleashes the most powerful Radiation Blast she can manage at the tasty morsel.

A Radiation Blast is unleashed, but the force field in the doorway completely blocks it. Stargirl is surprised by this sudden attack by someone who looks like Goldstar, while Dr. Williams is more curious about the attacker.

“How interesting,” the doctor states. Turning back to Stargirl she says, “While the looks are similar, this is not your mother. Just an extra-dimensional copy.”

Turning back to the doorway, Dr. Williams adds, “Why are you doppelgangers here? What is the reason for all of this?”

Roll Call: Coventry, Serena, & Turjess

Back at the ruins of Horton’s plaza, a new player arrives on the stage wearing a familiar face. Drawn by the strong presence of magic, he has come to investigate. The unconscious form or Morjok lies close by. The Iron Maidens were unable to infect him with their disease and so they wandered off in search of easier pray.

But other magical traces are sensed. Two fully magical dimensions are close to this area where dimensions are crossing and overlapping seemingly at random. Much closer two other magical signatures are noted. They both bear the stench of Tyrannon, the near god-like master of the dimension known as Thulkos. The female, clad in impossibly tight black is the more powerful of the two.

There are weaker sources of magic in this new dimension as well. The transformed creatures are the result of magical interference. A force long thought destroyed had been unleashed on this unsuspecting world. This earth, this dimension now belonged to the extra-dimensional horrors known as the Anopheles.


Now what?

[Bruce]

Flux
"*Edgar, be advised-I'm sending some of the people in to the Starr building but the rest of us are diverting to the Infinity Exports site. We'll be-"

The rest of Flux's radio call is cut short when the attack begins!

Not good. Powershift is groggy, and I've got my hands full of teamates.

"Sea Guard, Frostbite head to the ground. Assist Gargoyle, watch out for the spiked humanoids. Tesla, Phlox take on the Powershift look-alike."

"Powershift! Shake it off mister. We need you up to speed."

If Frostbite and Sea Guard vacate one hand that gives Flux a free hand to fight with. If 'Shift can't act Flux will cup him in one large hand as protection and move in on Powerstone.

[Bruce]

Flex

Fun times, fun times. The Chief called it right on the button. There they are ripe and ready for a beating.

Flex is briefly tempted to give his oversized opposite the first strike but that was not the plan and Flex is nothing if not obedient-most of the time.
Accordingly then, Flex positions himself above the clueless gray freak and goes Human Bullet.

This'll be fun. That simp will never see it coming.

The impact is satisfying even though no bones broke, and now they were both down on the ground. Advantage Flex!

Eldrich Arcane

Eldrich refrains from mentioning his Cloak of Floating. If the Beauteous One wished to carry him who was he to reject her! Such lovely gold skin much like his own copper hue and yet not quite the same. The Gold One is speaking when the water closes in on the both of them!

The memory comes swiftly: a lecture on the dangers of free floating water globules untethered by any draw of gravity. A great danger when traveling between Fragments without having any shielding.

But I do have shielding so it falls to me to aid my companion.

The Amulet of Warding activates with that thought even as Eldrich chokes against the water forcing its way down into his throat and lungs.

Turjess Malkindor

Turjess sensed it at once: a great confluence of realities at least two of which possessed far more majik then the one he was forced to occupy currently. The decision was simple and instant. Leave here and go there.

Emerging into one of them Turjess opens wide his Private Eye to what or who was empowered here.

Morjok or a variant of him. Defeated by something here. Perhaps by the servants of Tyrannon I sense.

Looking at the signature energy in this dimension Turjess concludes it is of no value to him. The dimension is infested with Anopheles.

Someone has been very foolish or careless in their majik workings to allow this. Let us see what the Lackeys of Tyrannon make of it before I depart to the more promising sources.

Turjess will activate the Belt of Travel to rise above the mindless husks and seek out the two he has sensed close by . .

[Covenant]

“You’re such a dimwit,” Serena counters with distain. “Have you heard nothing that I said? Father has fallen! I rule Thulkos now! Let me show you!”

“YOU rule… you are unfit! Tell your mistress I will serve only for as long as ‘I’ rule Thulkose, and I rule it ALONE!”

Covenant is still ready to missile deflect

[lavender]

Lavender:

“OOWWW!!” Lavender cries out in pain. Whatever it was that was thrown at her easily penetrated her skin causing bleeding. “That hurt you little brat!”

Somehow she manages to re-direct the rude and evil man to a less dangerous part of the roof. Less dangerous to me that is! It’s too bad that he misses the human top, but at least he’s gone through the roof.

Turning back to Blackout Lavender says, “I can’t stay here! Are you coming or not?”

Should Blackout refuse this time, Lavender will shift away for real.

[Stargirl]

Stargirl:

While Backlash wasn’t any help, Dr. Williams explains a great deal.

“I can fly. I have superpowers,” Gloria says, giggling slightly. “This has to be some kind of joke, right?”

However Dr. Williams seems to be serious about this.

“My mother is Goldstar?” Gloria continues. It is surprising, but upon reflection maybe it really isn’t. It does explain why she’s away so much and how come they have such close ties to the Vigilant. Then why doesn’t Gloria have golden skin?

“Maybe this is real. Stargirl, huh? Well, if I have the power of a star, then I guess the name fits.”


Dr. Williams speaks with Edgar while Gloria mulls over what she’s been told.

“Full capacity? What do you mean? How long has there been a force field over the doorway?” Then it dawns on Gloria and she looks back at Dr. Williams. “How come you know so much?”

Backlash leaves and then someone looking very much like Goldstar lands before the doorway! However the colors of her costume are all wrong!

"Eat this, princess," she says as she unleashes the most powerful Radiation Blast she can manage at the tasty morsel.

Somehow the force field in the doorway holds back the attack. Gloria couldn’t help but wince when it was fired, as she has no idea how bad it could have hurt.

“How interesting,” the doctor states. Turning back to Stargirl she says, “While the looks are similar, this is not your mother. Just an extra-dimensional copy.”

Turning back to the doorway, Dr. Williams adds, “Why are you doppelgangers here? What is the reason for all of this?”

“Yeah, what she said!” Gloria adds. “What this about being a princess?”

[Stargirl]

Nega-Stargirl:

Stargirl holds her hand up to her eyes to block the flash of Tesla’s electrical arcs. Her energy blows out the control center, but can’t seem to harm the little speed demon.

“Why, I believe she’s faster than you are, Tesla!” Stargirl says with a laugh. She then continues to keep her eyes open for any more trouble.

Dark Menagerie:

She smiles as she unleashes the blast at this world's Stargirl. However, just as she does so, an energy screen pops up in the doorway, blocking the attack.

"No! You will not cheat me of this kill, machine!" Ignoring the ignorant questions of the girl inside, DarkLilian switches to full Neutron power (density) and begins attacking both the barrier and the doorjam. Hopefully, her full power will overwhelm either the forcefield or the wall next to it.

[Menagerie]

Menagerie:

Just as she suggests splitting up to Edgar, she and the one called Eldrich are attacked by suffocating water. Fortunately, in this form, is has no effect on her, but Eldrich isn't so lucky.

Immediately, GoldLily streaks skyward, trying to get herself and Eldrich beyond the range of the attack. As she does so, she looks downward for the source of the attack. It reminds her of Sea Guard's power, though why he would attack them is beyond her understanding. Either way, it should require the attacker to be able to see the target, so the attacker should be nearby.

[Backlash]

Grimacing and fighting against the tendrils enveloping him Backlash shatters them, his eyes meeting the red ones before him. “Are you done with your tinker toys? I hope that isn’t the best you got cream puff!" Taking a step forward as he hears the collision of the forcefield, chancing a glance back he can see the clone begin pounding on the door.

His eyes narrow as he goes Full density, he will attempt a move through on the Goldstar wanna be. “Think fast!” he calls out a moment before he hits, if he does.

[Backlash]

Evil backlash

Backlash reappears close to Twisterella, but she spins easily out of harm’s way. Instead, Backlash smashes into the roof passing through it! He falls into the building below.

Groaning inwardly and gritting his teeth, he raises up from the debris and jumps up out of the wreckage back to the roof.

[Frostbite]

Frostbite

“Hope you can surf guard.” He says just as he jumps off Flux’s hand, As he does so he gestures before him causing an Ice slide for him to move about on ancohoring it on a nearby building he will move toward Gargy.

[Frostbite]

Black Ice(playing with names)

Stargirl holds her hand up to her eyes to block the flash of Tesla’s electrical arcs. Her energy blows out the control center, but can’t seem to harm the little speed demon.

“Why, I believe she’s faster than you are, Tesla!” Stargirl says with a laugh. She then continues to keep her eyes open for any more trouble.

“Not for long.” He says with a smirk as he aims before the speedster and starts to coat the floor in an ice sheet. (guess it would be an entangle or a thin ice wall laying down)

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Tilt-A-Whirl:

"The people?" Darkstar answers with a malevolent glance. "There's no need for them to see this. After all they are all out there living it! Everyone you know is caught up in this. Isn't that delightful?"

"umyeah...." Tilt says, suddenly finding the woman long winded and boring. It doesn't stay boring for long though!

"ohboy!" Tilt says looking at the ugly metal-faced woman as she fires electricity everywhere. She makes some quick moves and avoids any danger.

Darkstar seems unaffected by the display of energy. She looks in Tilt's direction.

"My friends just want to play with you," she says in a mocking tone. "And you can do is run away. How rude. Run as fast as you can, little girl, run if you value your life!"

"wellwhydontyouplaywiththisforawhile!" Tilt says and rushes back up to Darkstar and hits her with her topsy-turvy power. Tilt just wanted to see the cool show and the woman had to start mocking her. How rude!

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Twisterella:

“OOWWW!!” Lavender cries out in pain. Whatever it was that was thrown at her easily penetrated her skin causing bleeding. “That hurt you little brat!”

Twisterella just beams evilly and the look in her eyes is pure murder.

Backlash reappears close to Twisterella, but she spins easily out of harm’s way. Instead, Backlash smashes into the roof passing through it! He falls into the building below.

"heywatchouttheyremine! gogetyourownpreyyoubiggaloot!" Twisterella yells out as her partner crashes through the roof near her. She will keep spinning towards the cry-baby woman and, when close, hit her as many times with her little fists as her spinning allows her.

[Blackout]

Blackout:

The tiny projectiles swarm Blackout and Lavender. Blackout withstands the onslaught fairly well, while Lavender is bleeding in several places. The lavender clad woman is still conscious.

Blackout manages to dodge the majority of the projectiles, but Lavender isn't so lucky. He can hardly fathom the maliciousness of the seemingly young girl who threw them.

The evil version of Backlash leaps at Lavender, intent upon crushing her. Blackout throws his rod and it strikes Backlash squarely in the chest doing some damage, but not altering the man’s course.

His aim is accurate, but Blackout can not alter his opponent's course. As he catches his rod on the rebound, he notices the man is simply moved. The intented result is not quite as spectacular as he was hoping, but it does buy them a few precious seconds.

Turning back to Blackout Lavender says, “I can’t stay here! Are you coming or not?”

Should Blackout refuse this time, Lavender will shift away for real.

"Then go," Blackout says sincerely, "get out of harm's way and I will meet up with you later. I can not allow these villains to escape to cause more harm."

"heywatchouttheyremine! gogetyourownpreyyoubiggaloot!" Twisterella yells out as her partner crashes through the roof near her. She will keep spinning towards the cry-baby woman and, when close, hit her as many times with her little fists as her spinning allows her.

Blackout doesn't quite follow the villainous woman's words, but the intentions are clear. Setting himself grimly to the fact that he will momentarily be left alone, he hurls his rod, this time uncapping the end. He will ricochet it so as to hopefully catch the madly-spinning woman before she can intercept Lavender. He's not sure if the line will be able to bind her, but it should allow enough time for Lavender to get away at the least.

[Blackout]

BlackOut:

"Just like a man... always driven by your appetites..." DarkLilian murmurs seductively into her throat mike. "Hell, I doubt she'll be much than a tasty snack..."

Something dark and evil stirs in BlackOut upon hearing the seductiveness of his partner's words. A rolling soft chuckle escapes his inhuman lips as he sets his sights on the man standing before him.

"Take her down," he says to Dark Menagerie in barely more than a whisper. "I shall feed here and catch up soon enough."

Grimacing and fighting against the tendrils enveloping him Backlash shatters them, his eyes meeting the red ones before him. “Are you done with your tinker toys? I hope that isn’t the best you got cream puff!" Taking a step forward as he hears the collision of the forcefield, chancing a glance back he can see the clone begin pounding on the door.

An inhuman sound that somehow passes for laughter escapes BlackOut's lips. The heroic fool turns his attention from him however, and that is the first and only fatal mistake the hero will ever be making.

BlackOut will move up and grapple Backlash from behind, setting him up for the draining to come...

[Tesla]

Tesla:

Flux orders everyone back to the Starr Building and away from the current danger. Tesla and Xanaphia take flight. Flux waits as Sea Guard helps a still groggy Powershift into Flux’s giant sized hand. Frostbite gestures and a whiteout settles in over the advancing creatures. Frosty then jumps into Flux’s hand.

Things are definitely not right as Tesla first looks around and then to Xana. "It isn't usually this hectic," she says, not having anything else to really offer.

Suddenly the others are attacked. Tesla looks around from her aerial vantage point and sees several things happening. If she can spot any adversaries, she will open up with an electrical blast to try to divert attention from her teammates and allow them to regroup.

[Tesla]

Sinister Tesla:

Sinister Tesla rises up; the electricity she absorbed from the Infinity Exports Generators still plays about her body. Occasionally an arc leaps off her body to the numerous pieces of metal in the vast chamber. One large bolt leaps from Tesla's body towards Tilt's location! It smashes into the control area, but Tilt-A-Whirl simply dashes away from it. The electrical energy arcs about the controls, blowing them out as it moves through the room.

Even though the young heroine escaped her arcs of electricity, Tesla laughes maniacly at all the fun she's having! She doesn't care that she's turning half the equipment to junk, they accomplished what they needed to do.

“Why, I believe she’s faster than you are, Tesla!” Stargirl says with a laugh. She then continues to keep her eyes open for any more trouble.

“Not for long.” He says with a smirk as he aims before the speedster and starts to coat the floor in an ice sheet.

Tesla laughes along with Stargirl, "Maybe so, but I'm just getting started!" Black Ice is seemingly getting ready to add an interesting element into the mix. This should get good really fast! Tesla will wait and line up a shot once the speedster goes slip-sliding away...
