Crucible #11 - "Hellfire Gets the Point"
Outside Horton's Plaza...
Yu retracts his tentacle away from the now human looking Fire & Ice. The crazed man has calmed down considerably and is too involved in examining his body to pay attention to anyone else.
"Nice work, Yu!", Frostbite calls out, looking shocked at the outcome. "How did you do that?"
"That was outstanding," the Silver Avenger adds. "You might not be the prettiest thing around, but you're all right in my book."
Yu seems genuinely surprised to be receiving praise. That had never happened before!
"Yu drain powers," the spitball explains in a more confident sounding voice. "Not gone for good. Can make gone if wish?"
Goldstar interrupts the conversation and more trouble is spotted. She points out an ivory skinned woman with silvery wings menacing an overhead news helicopter. The sound of a car crashing/being smashed reaches everyone's ears as well. Strange lights are seen down a different street.
At the Silver Avengers suggestion, the collection of odd beings moves to investigate. Goldstar flies higher into the sky towards the helicopter, while Flux and Frostbite go to investigate the crashing noises. Yu and It will check out the strange lights.
Frostbite asks the Silver Avenger for a spare radio. "Sorry, I'm fresh out. Just keep your wits about you and be careful. If it gets too intense, give a holler and I’ll come running."
Roll Call: Goldstar
Goldstar flies towards the helicopter and the strange winged woman harassing it. "Hey," Goldstar cries out. "Stop that! Quit being mean to those people!"
"Make them go away", the winged woman cries out in a melodic voice. "Stop looking at me!"
The winged woman (Harpy) flies forward once more, attempting to maneuver around Goldstar and at the helicopter again. Goldstar, shifting into Neutron Star mode, amplifies her physical strength and flies after the Harpy. Goldstar grabs a hold of Harpy around the chest and puts her into a bear hug.
Much to Goldstar's surprise, the Harpy screams in pain from being held so tightly. The sounds of bones breaking can clearly be heard. Harpy helplessly slumps in Goldstar's arms and is unmoving...
Roll Call: Frostbite & Flux
Flux's form shimmers as he goes desolid. Frostbite runs after Flux and to his surprise, he can slide down the street as if he was on ice and wearing ice skates. The effect is momentarily startling, but easily adapted to since Frostbite is already accustomed to ice-skating. In fact, Frostbite will have to slow down to allow Flux to keep pace.
Rounding the corner the pair are able to see what the problem is. Standing in the middle of the street is man with long, shaggy black hair holding a pick up truck over his head! Another vehicle can be seen dropped on top of another, probably explaining the crashing sound heard earlier. As strange as all this is, the man is howling like a dog!
This particular street is still filled with numerous, now abandoned cars. Several still have the engines running. A couple of dozen people can be seen either observing all of this from a safe distance or fleeing for safety. Frostbite can easily weave a path around those people who appear to be normal.
Even more ominous, dozens of people can be seen sprawled on the ground in various positions as if they fell there. It can't be determined from a distance if they are just unconscious.
Spotting the arriving heroes, the dog-man howls even louder as he hurtles the pick up at you!

Elsewhere, the unlikely trio of Green Steel, Lily, and Serena are speaking to Blue Steel who is currently inside a thick bank of fog that obscures their sight. She pleads with them to, "Stay away! I don't want to hurt you!"
Behind them, demonic laughter fills the air signifying that Hellfire has regained consciousness. He effortlessly passes through his metallic prison and advances towards the trio. Green Steel goes to intercept the demonic man.
At the same time, Lily's hearing is suddenly amplified to superhuman levels. She can hear Blue Steel's rapidly racing heartbeat. Lily drops to her knees, vainly trying to block out the noise.
"Let's get busy!", Hellfire cries out as he closes in. "We need some more blood and guts around here!"
"Alright, butt ugly! I'm ready for you this time," Green Steel shouts towards Hellfire. The villain is close enough for Green Steel to close in on foot.
Having learned his lesson from the first go around, Green Steel avoids Hellfire's initial slash and unloads with a devastating punch. Hellfire is rocketed backward and smashes through the plate glass window of a small pizza shop. Confidently, Green Steel pursues the villain.
Green is on him before Hellfire can get his bearings. Grasping Hellfire by his shoulder with one hand, Green Steel drives his own claw-like talons directly into the demon's chest, lifting him off the ground from the force of the impact. The talons drive deep into Hellfire's chest until they reach the knuckle.
Hellfire gasps in great shock and surprise. His body grows limp and rapidly begins to dissolve. The bubbling reddish energy inside his gem-like body falls to the floor in a gigantic splat. It sizzles on the ground as if being cooked in a hot pan. A moment later, the reddish energy simply evaporates. In seconds there is no trace left of Hellfire.
While that is going on, Lily attempts to speak with Blue Steel. Rising to her feet once more, Lily speaks into the mist, "Hello? Are you all right, ma'am? Are you hurt?" Real concern tinges her voice.
"No, I'm not all right! I'm not hurt, but I don't want to hurt you! Stay away from me! Stay out of the cloud! I don't want to kill you too! Look out behind you!"
Both Serena and Lily turn to discover the Monster leering at them, an evil grin looked on its ghoulish green skull-like face. It roars malevolently as the women spot it. The Monster pauses for a moment and then advances towards them!
Hearing the noise, Green Steel begins to return from the pizza shop on the other side of the plaza. While on the way, he spots the red-skinned man he thought resembled Red Steel beginning to stir...

Catch the Dog
Flux:
As Flux and Frostbite head out together Flux wonders if Frostbite can keep up.
The question is soon answered: not only keeping up but easily passing by---skating?
Too bad for me. Can't hitch a ride on his shoulder.
Oh well, at least my knees don't hurt when I'm weightless.
Rounding the corner gets us the sight of a howling man stacking up vehicles and several people down all over the ground.
"He looks too crazy-mad to reason with. How about I distract him and you try freezing him in ice?"
"Scratch that, incoming!"
Growing to full height and bracing to catch the pickup just in case it's occupied.
"Guess we're noticed now."

Goldstar makes a mess!
Goldstar:
Goldstar happily flies up to stop the winged woman from bothering those nice people in the news helicopter. (Hey, she hasn’t dealt with the media yet!)
Once up there, the winged woman speaks with a very musical voice. She wants me to make them go away. So, Goldstar turns with the intent of asking the nice people to go away and leave the winged woman alone. Surely, they’ll do that if I ask nicely enough! (Naïve, isn’t she?)
However before Goldstar can do that, the winged woman flies around her and towards the helicopter once more. “Hey! Stop that!”
Goldstar flies after the crazed woman with the intent of stopping her. Catching up to the winged woman, Goldstar wraps her arms around the Harpy in an attempt to stop her. She also tries to keep those pretty wings out of her face!
“Leave them alone!’, Goldstar cries out as she grabs a hold of the winged woman. Much to her astonishment, the sound of bones breaking immediately follows. The winged woman cries out in pain and seems to pass out.
“Oh my gosh! What did I do?”
Goldstar is filled with panic! She never meant to hurt the winged woman. She had no idea that she was fragile. She just wanted to keep her from hurting anyone and now she’s gone and hurt her! Tears start to run down Goldstar’s face.
“Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!”
Goldstar hangs in the air with the winged woman in her arms not knowing what to do. Fortunately, she does ease up on her grip to not cause any more injury. Using her super strength, Goldstar maneuvers the winged woman in her arms into a carrying position.
“What do I do? What do I do?”
Finally it comes to Goldstar. “Serena! She healed that furry lizard’s wounds before. She can help heal her!”
Goldstar looks around in an attempt to see the super-nice armored woman. Now where did she go? Goldstar begins to think on where was the last place she saw her. It was back where everyone was just at!
Goldstar flies back down only to find that nice Silver Avenger fellow there. In a rushed voice, Goldstar quickly says, “I need to find Serena! I hurt her, but I didn’t mean to hurt her! Now I need to find Serena so that she can heal her! So did you see which way she went? Please, I’m in a hurry! She’ll know what to do!”
Assuming that the Silver Avenger points out the direction that Serena went in, Goldstar will streak off in that direction in search of the knight. Apparently she followed after where Goldstar had originally flown off to. So perhaps by following that same path, Goldstar will find Serena and get the winged woman healed.
Upon finding Serena, Goldstar will land and explain what happened while blubbering. “I didn’t mean to hurt her! I guess I don’t know my own strength, but she was being mean to these nice people in the helicopter, so I had to stop her and when I did there was the sound of bones breaking and now I think she’s broken, so can you fix her? Please? Pretty please?”

Lily mentions about being a bear:
Serena will raise a curious eyebrow at that statement. Not that she doesn't believe Lily's word, but because she's impressed at the wide range of talents she is demonstrating.
"I have encountered shape shifters and changelings in the past," Serena will state. "Have you ever secretly wished to become a bear? Given all the strange things going on, perhaps you subconsciously became something more powerful in an effort to protect yourself? Perhaps you have the ability to not only alter your body, but to change completely into other things? This is something that you will need to practice under more favorable conditions."
The Green Knight Speaks:
"Consider me corrected," Green Steel states, still a little surprised by the powers of this 'knight'. "I don't know if you can call me a knight," He pauses to look at his armor. "But I guess I can sorta see where you could be confused. I belong to the Steel Squadron. Well, used to anyway. Three of my team were either killed or something and I don't know what happened to Blue, the last one, yet."
"I stand corrected as well," Serena will respond. "I am a stranger to this place and know not of its customs. The Steel Squadron? A fine name for a band of warriors in battle armor. Tragic that they were cut down on the field of battle. If I spot a man in blue armor I will let you know."
Green Steel nods towards Lily when Serena introduces her. "I can't recall seein' any purple monsters around, but it seems like we have a whole rainbow of monsters to choose from," Green Steel indicates around the battlefield.
"Indeed. A most colorful land I find myself in. I shall have to explore further when the current crisis has been resolved. Now if you will excuse us, I must assist Lily in recovering her property."
The Blue Knight Speaks:
"No, I'm not all right! I'm not hurt, but I don't want to hurt you! Stay away from me! Stay out of the cloud! I don't want to kill you too! Look out behind you!"
Serena is not sure what to make of all of this. Perhaps this Blue Knight was also changed in a manner similar to that of Lily. When did this happen? Why Serena didn't notice this strange effect? Questions for another time.
The Monster Arrives:
Serena spins at the sound of the evil laughter. Her sense for evil and malevolence confirming what her eyes are about to see. The strange green-skinned man that reeked of evil has recovered and is about to pounce! Lily seems to be frozen in place in fear of this creature. Fortunately, Serena is unaffected by this monster's evil presence.
The Knight draws Blessed Salvation and moves to place herself between this monstrosity and Lily. The Holy Sword is pointed directly at the Monster.
"You will proceed no further, foul creature! This woman is under my personal protection and no harm shall come to her! This do I swear!"
To Lily, Serena will whisper, "Now might be a good time to test your running ability. Take cover and I will deal with this miscreant."
Turning back to the Monster, a grim smile will come to Serena's face. "Now Monster, we shall do battle!" With that, Serena attacks!

Lily:
Lily appears confused by Serena's line of logic. Didn't the woman understand that it was just some strange dream? "I don't think it really happened. After all, wouldn't lots a people have noticed a live bear wandering around the mall? Besides, that kind of thing can't really happen, can it?" The idea is almost beyond belief, though Lily has heard of some paranormals doing some quite unbelievable things. Of course, she's still having trouble with the idea that she may have just become one of them all of a sudden.
The words from the woman in the cloud leave Lily stumped as to how to help her. They're definitely going to need experts of some type for this!
Spinning at the warning, Lily is shocked to find another hideous being bearing down on them. Instinctively, she steps back away from the horror, accidently moving nearer to the chilling mist.
Serena suggests that she run, and Lily is more than willing to flee this terror. "Um... uh... I-- Okay." Turning, she takes off running as fast as she can. She has no idea how she managed such terrific speeds before, but Lily tries to recreate the feeling within her body, hoping that this will enable her to regain her former alacrity.
He-e-e-elppp!!!" she cries out as she runs.

As I jog towards Flux ,I roll my eyes to myself at what Silver Avenger said, "Just yell if I need help. Yeah ok. That's just wonderful I say to myself." Realizing that Flux is further away than I try to catch up when I stumble and almost fall "Woh". The familiar feeling of walking or being pushed on ice comes to me. Remembering the feel of the ice beneath my feet I right myself and begin to glide over the surface as though Im on my skates. "What the..." I say in astonishment " how can this be happening?".
As we round the corner there is a shaggy man holding up a pick-up over his head. There are cars piled on top of each other, vacant running cars as well as bodies all over the place.

as the howling man hurls the truck our way. For a few moments I am frozen in place from what I just witnessed. "Here goes nothing" I think to myself.
Concentrating on the ground a few feet in front of us with my arms raised. Going to try to make a wall of ice in front of us a little taller than myself.

Roll Call: Flux & Frostbite
The heroes stop in their approach as they see the barking man toss a pick up truck their way. Each acts to the approaching threat in a different manner but at the same time.
Flux becomes solid and starts to grow. Bracing himself, he prepares to catch the airborne truck. Having grown large enough, he is able to pluck the vehicle out of the air safely, cradling it in his arms like some giant child’s toy.
Frostbite concentrates and for the first time he succeeds in having his new powers do what he wants them to do. A thick wall of ice is rapidly formed between him and Flux and the deranged strong man. The wall is six feet high and at least seventy feet long!
Flux can easily see over the wall. The barking man simply throws his head back and howls once more. Then he reaches for another car to toss…
Roll Call: Goldstar, Lily, & Serena:
Upon seeing the gruesome Monster, Lily steps back in abject horror. As she does so, she inadvertently moves closer to the strange fog bank. She makes contact with the fog for a brief instance and in that instance she can feel her entire body grow colder as the warmth is drained away. Too long of an exposure would be certain death!
“I warned you to stay away!”, the woman in the fog pleads at first. Then her tone changes into something a bit more malevolent. “But I do so enjoy tasting your warmth… Do come into my icy embrace…”
Between the affects of the fog and the Monster’s presence, Lily’s begins to sprint away. As she does so, she becomes extremely aware of the workings of her body. She can feel her heart pumping faster, sending more blood to her legs. She can feel the muscles in her legs grow larger and stronger. Her skin becomes tougher, able to better withstand any impacts. It’s a unique sensation, a sort of tingling, as Lily’s body responds to her own wishes.
Lily begins to sprint fast at first before breaking into a full speed run. She’s past Green Steel before she even has the chance to yell for help.
Serena prepares to face the Monster. To her surprise, the malevolent creature is far faster than she suspected. It lashes out with a fist that just narrowly misses Serena’s face. The force of the blow could have very well taken her head off!
Serena responds, stabbing the beast with Blessed Salvation. The Monster screams in pain from both the force of the blade and from being in contact with something so good and pure.
Undaunted, the Monster swings once more and catches Serena in the chest. The swordswoman is violently thrown back into Blue Steel’s fog bank. She lands in a heap, her head spinning. As if the force of the punch was bad enough, Serena feels the strange fog draining away her very life force! Coldness comes over the woman.
Still not satisfied with his efforts, and in spite of being burned by the woman’s purity once more, the Monster continues his relentless assault. The Monster follows Serena into the fog and he too suffers its debilitating affects. Frost covers the Monster but he just shrugs it off.
He’s on Serena before she can even defend herself. He picks up the swordswoman limp body, burning himself yet again in the process, and tosses her like a rag doll into the nearest wall. Serena collides loudly with the wall and it stops her flight. She slumps to the floor unconscious.
The Monster roars malevolently at his victory. But only for a moment. The affects of being in Blue Steel’s icy fog takes its toll and he collapses to the floor. Deep inside the fog, Blue Steel moans almost in pleasure as she feeds on the warmth from the Monster’s body.
At that moment, Goldstar flies onto the scene with the limp form of the Harpy in her arms looking for Serena.
Roll Call: Flux & Frostbite
The heroes stop in their approach as they see the barking man toss a pick up truck their way. Each acts to the approaching threat in a different manner but at the same time.
Flux becomes solid and starts to grow. Bracing himself, he prepares to catch the airborne truck. Having grown large enough, he is able to pluck the vehicle out of the air safely, cradling it in his arms like some giant child’s toy.
Frostbite concentrates and for the first time he succeeds in having his new powers do what he wants them to do. A thick wall of ice is rapidly formed between him and Flux and the deranged strong man. The wall is six feet high and at least seventy feet long!
Flux can easily see over the wall. The barking man simply throws his head back and howls once more. Then he reaches for another car to toss…
Roll Call: Goldstar, Lily, & Serena:
Upon seeing the gruesome Monster, Lily steps back in abject horror. As she does so, she inadvertently moves closer to the strange fog bank. She makes contact with the fog for a brief instance and in that instance she can feel her entire body grow colder as the warmth is drained away. Too long of an exposure would be certain death!
“I warned you to stay away!”, the woman in the fog pleads at first. Then her tone changes into something a bit more malevolent. “But I do so enjoy tasting your warmth… Do come into my icy embrace…”

Lily Pak
Lily:
Stepping backwards, Lily is suddenly enveloped by a mind-numbing cold. "Uhn... So... cold..." she murmurs, shivering.
Whether due to Serena's suggestion or the former Blue Steel's chilling words, Lily takes off like a shot, quickly accelerating to inhuman speeds. This time, strangely, she can feel the changes in her body and almost sense exactly how this strange power works.
Within the narrow confines of the plaza, Lily zips around benches, planters and other obstacles that seek to bar her way. Amidst all the weaving, she gets a glance back at Serena, just in time to see the hideous Monster slam her back into the misty cloud.
Alarmed, Lily turns and heads back in that direction. Only moments later, Serena comes flying out of the mist, backwards, and slams into a wall. Her body slides to the ground, unmoving. Lily immediately directs her path toward the fallen woman.
"Serena! Are you alright?" Lily arrives at Serena's side as fast as her legs will get her there. Stooping down, she attempts to determine how badly hurt the woman is. She can only hope her new friend is still alive. Unfortunately, she doesn't have the training to provide more than simple first aid.

I cant help but to be pleased with what I done. A slight smerk forms on my icy features, "But you arent done yet" I think to myself.
Looking at the ice wall I created I try to get an idea of where the Dog man went and what he is doing. Watching his hazy form through the wall he begisns to pick up a car. "here we go again."
I will see if they are any vechiles near the ice wall. If there is I will run to it and use it as a stepping stone to jump over the wall. If no cars near have no choice but to climb the wall if I can.

Goldstar is shocked!
Goldstar:
Much to Goldstar’s relief, she finds Serena back in the same area where she picked up Flux & Frostbite. That relief turns to shock as she sees Serena go flying and not get up after that impact!
“Oh my goodness!”, Goldstar gasps in shock. For a moment, Goldstar hangs in the air not knowing what to do. She can’t see who attacked Serena from inside that strange cloud. As she watches, another person that Goldstar hasn’t seen before runs up to check on Serena. She seems very concerned about her. Goldstar will silently land close to the two women, but not close enough to be taken as a threat.
“Is Serena okay?”, Goldstar will quietly ask. “I sure hope so, as I need her to heal this woman. I didn’t mean to hurt her! It just sorta happened. Oh, hi. I’m Goldstar.”
Lily will see a golden-skinned woman in a skintight red and dark blue costume with long blonde hair who is surrounded by glittering sparks of light. She’s about 5’6” in height, taller with the heels on her boots. There’s a look of innocence and naivety about Goldstar.
Goldstar will gently set the Harpy down and be on guard for any potential attacks. Just in case who ever attacked Serena comes after us.

The Knight silently curses to herself when she realizes that this foe is far more powerful than she suspected. This creature of evil is far stranger and faster than she ever imagined. Once more Serena has thrown herself into battle without adequate preparation. You’d think that someday she’d learn!
The creature's punch launches the knight backwards into the strange fog bank. Serena hits the floor gasping for breath. Then an intense cold comes over her, threatening to drain away her very life force!
“That’s what she meant about staying away,” Serena mumbles incoherently to herself.
Out of nowhere, Serena feels a hand lift her up once more. Then she’s hurtling through the air. The trip ends with a violent collision and Serena’s world goes back. She lands in a pile, Blessed Salvation falling free from her grasp.

Fortunately and somewhat unbelievably, Serena appears to be relatively unhurt. Lily whispers a quick prayer of thanks, then turns at the sound of the feminine voice behind her.
Looking up, she sees a beautiful woman who seems almost to glow. A second look reveals what seem to be drifting motes of light about the woman. Lily would be impressed, if the woman's words didn't seem to indicate a lack of mental depth. Lily suppresses a snicker as she thinks of all the dim blondes she's encountered over the years.
"Um... I believe Serena's not seriously hurt, just unconscious." She turns back to the warrior-woman lying motionless at her feet. "Serena!" she says, sharply, patting the woman's face. "Are you okay? Wake up!" Lily watches carefully for any sign of returning consciousness.

GREEN STEEL -
Again, a backtrack::
"Consider me corrected," Green Steel states, still a little surprised by the powers of this 'knight'. "I don't know if you can call me a knight," He pauses to look at his armor. "But I guess I can sorta see where you could be confused. I belong to the Steel Squadron. Well, used to anyway. Three of my team were either killed or something and I don't know what happened to Blue, the last one, yet."
"I stand corrected as well," Serena will respond. "I am a stranger to this place and know not of its customs. The Steel Squadron? A fine name for a band of warriors in battle armor. Tragic that they were cut down on the field of battle. If I spot a man in blue armor I will let you know."
"Actually, Blue is a 'she', like yourself."
Green Steel nods towards Lily when Serena introduces her. "I can't recall seein' any purple monsters around, but it seems like we have a whole rainbow of monsters to choose from," Green Steel indicates around the battlefield.
"Indeed. A most colorful land I find myself in. I shall have to explore further when the current crisis has been resolved. Now if you will excuse us, I must assist Lily in recovering her property."

Jumping to present:
Green Steel feels a bit better having taken the frustrations of the bizarre series of recent circumstances out on Hellfire. It was also satisfying to get him back for the wounds Hellfire caused him. It was going to be a while getting his armor repaired back at the main repair center.
Looking at Hellfire splat and dissipate on the ground, Green Steel smirks," You wanted more blood and guts, butt ugly. Well, you got it." Green Steel watches for a moment as his opponent 'sizzles' away and starts to shake his head. Then he hears a crash and a roaring sound. As he turns, he sees Serena slumped on the ground and the roaring sound is coming from the icy fog bank.
Turning to see what's going on, Green Steel heads back towards what he thinks is his teammate, taking care to avoid the red man for the moment, but still trying to keep track of him. "Blue? What happened to you...?" Using his armor's visual receptors on infrared, he can see that there is another large form inside the fog, with its hands raised over its head. Then it slumps and falls to the ground too.
The armored combatant looks over and sees an unknown (to him) heroine fly in and land near Serena, carrying some bizarre looking bird-woman. Her and another woman seem to be trying to revive the 'knight', so Green Steel will try to keep track of potential combatants. Then he hears the moaning coming from the fog.
"Blue?! Is that you in there?" He waits a moment, as the moaning continues. "Come on, Stace. Quit fooling around. What's going on with you? Ace is dead. So's Grey. Let's clean up the rest of this mess and get back to base so we can figure out what we're gonna do." Green Steel waits for the response, while continuing to look around the area for other potential fights.
Again, a backtrack::
