Eternal Vigilance #67 - "Showdown in the Twilight Realm"

Roll Call: Tilt-A-Whirl & ?

Tilt-A-Whirl has just made fools of all the armed men around the two Infinity Exports vans. They are all too disorientated to be a threat. Tilt then notices the van holding the 'doggie' is shaking violently.
"awww, poordoggie. theygoingtotakeyoutothepound?" Tilt says. "thosebadmenarecertainlynofun!"

Tilt will look for a latch, handle, knob or other way to release the doggie so he doesn't have to be hauled away and put down...
Grabbing the handle, Tilt opens the door and finally gets a good look at her 'doggie'. It doesn't really resemble any kind of earthly dog she's ever seen before! It's furry man-sized humanoid, but hunched over so as to run on all fours. A thick brownish fur covers its entire body. Its limbs end in wicked looking claws and its large mouth is full of very big teeth. It's growls at Tilt and leaps! Tilt easily steps away from the rampaging beast and it claws empty air.

Then another voice reaches Tilt's ears.

"This is just great!"

The speaker is a woman, in fact the woman in lavender Tilt spotted earlier.

"I go away for two minutes and everything goes to heck in my absence! Fuzzy wussy is turning out to be one royal pain in the rear!"

"Lavender!" The commander of the armed men cries out. "Do something!"

"All right, all right. Why do I always have to clean up these messes?"

Lavender begins to concentrate and the entire area begins to distort and shift. By the time Tilt tries to run off, it’s too late. She's not able to get out of the area in time. Lavender, Tilt, fuzzy wussy, the two vans and all the armed van simply vanish from the street below.

Virtually unnoticed, a man steps out from the shadows on the roof overhead. He is just in time to see Lavender, Tilt and everyone else simply vanish!

Roll Call: Eldrich and Covenant

Deep inside the Twilight Realm, a golden platform moves along. Standing on it is quartet of beings. Four of them are the newly formed Dark Masters, consisting of Black Paladin, Lady Bale, the Magus and the White Witch. With them is the being known as Eldrich and only he knows his current allegiance.

They had just left an odd being they encountered in this realm behind. He trails behind the golden platform, but seems content to keep his distance. As they move along, a plan of attack against Morjok is formulated.

"It is settled then," the Black Paladin announces. "While I and my consort confront him physically, you two shall strike with your enchantments."

"I'll amplify my husband's magical might with my own," the White Witch states.

"And I in turn will drain away Morjok's power, making it my own," the Magus concludes. "Thus making him weaker as the battle continues. There should be plenty of distractions coming Morjok's way. I sense the presence of other mystics. The local heroes no doubt."

"The Purple Phlox is among them!" Lady Bale dries out.

"Very good," Black Paladin agrees. "The we shall add the Crystal Headed Staff to our collection. This day is turning out very well."

Eldrich vaguely remembers the woman in purple called the Purple Phlox. She did strive to aid him and the other members of the Vigilant during a different magical crisis. At least, he thinks she did...

Roll Call: Backlash & Blackout

Back out in San Diego, Backlash and Blackout watch as Lavender vanishes on them once more. The two heroes ponder which direction to go next. They know that there were two other vans involved in all of this. Blackout swings off in the direction the vans were last going in, Backlash follows with mighty leaps.

After just a few swings, Blackout can hear something up ahead. It's the growl of something menacing and Lavender's voice!
"I go away for two minutes and everything goes to heck in my absence! Fuzzy wussy is turning out to be one royal pain in the rear!"

"Lavender!" The commander of the armed men cries out. "Do something!"

"All right, all right. Why do I always have to clean up these messes?"
Blackout moves in the direction of the voices. Backlash follows and at the peak of his leap he can see a flash of light and the area below is suddenly empty! The pair land where the vans had been, but now there's very little trace left. Numerous bullet casings are here, but no one else.

Blackout does vaguely sense the presence of something unknown to him up on one of the rooftops...

Roll Call: Flux, Menagerie, Tesla, Eldrich, Frostbite, Gargoyle, Xanaphia, Powershift, & Sea Guard

Back in the Twilight Realm, the Vigilant and their allies have rescued the enigmatic Purple Phlox.
Flux wrote:"Quick introductions all around. I'm Flux, leader of the Vigilant. This is Tesla, Frostbite, Sea Guard and Powershift who you seem to know already.

The elf is named Xanaphia and the short gray fellow is PRIMUS' representative on this opp. Anything you can add in the way of information will be a big help, Phlox."
"Hello," the Phlox answers. "Nice to meet you all. I'm afraid that there's not much I can really add at this point. I sensed that something was mystically amiss and came here. I found myself in this place was moving closer to the source when those thugs showed up. As for who or what is responsible for this incursion, your guess is as good as mine."

Powershift encircles everyone in his protective bubble once more and you're off to the center of the Twilight Realm. Waiting there is the master of his dimension, Morjok the Conqueror! Menagerie is spotted as well and the heroes go on the offensive!

As you grow closer Powershift removes his bubble much like before letting everyone out.

“The Phlox’s staff should do great damage to whoever this clown is!” Powershift calls out. “Let’s clear a path for her!”

Altering the properties of his protective bubble, Powershift projects it before him now and using it like a shield he slams into the nearest group of trident wielding guardsmen. It’s surprising to see Powershift move faster than Tesla. Typically she was always the first to attack when battle begins, but with the power boast provided by this strange realm, Powershift is faster and stronger then ever before.

Tesla follows Powershift in, adding her transformed plasma blasts to the task of clearing a both to Morjok. Her blasts send those touched by them scattering.

Frostbite comes in next with Sea Guard. The icy hero clears the way with an ice ram, while Sea Guard uses his elemental ring to summon a giant fist of water.

While that is going on, Menagerie alters her form once more, changing from Goldstar into Flux! She then begins to concentrate and her/his body begins to become transparent. She/He then begins to move right through the glowing globe of energy.

The real Flux, still in giant size mode, swings his mammoth arm out, sweeping away more of the trident bearing guardians. With that assault, the last of those imprisoning Menagerie are knocked off their feet and the globe she’s slipping out of simply fades away.

Not to be outdone, little boy Gargoyle yells and leaps high into the air and comes down on the large floating rock with a double fisted smash! The ground from the impact point literally ripples outwards like waves in a pond. For the very first time, Morjok is disturbed! His spell is interrupted and he looks at the child-sized Gargoyle in utter contempt.

“I am the master of dimensions!” Morjok rages. “You dare presume to disturb me?”

Magical energy gathers about the hands of Morjok and it lashes out with deadly accuracy! Gargoyle goes flying backwards, his chest still aglow from the energy. The blast nearly knocks him off the floating island, but he manages to find a handhold before going sailing into the void! It feels like he’s just been dropped kicked by, well, by himself. But fortunately no permanent damage was done. However to someone not as tough as the Gargoyle, that would have been fatal!

As everyone observes this, two figures materialize behind Morjok! They are easily recognized as the malicious Black Paladin and his consort, Lady Bale. But what confuses you is that they both had been magically transformed, or so you heard, about a month ago. Since that time they had been performing heroic deeds. Obviously that has changed!

Further back behind them, and beyond this floating rock there is a golden platform holding an unknown woman in white, a man dressed in robes, and a second man who seems strangely familiar to Flux, Menagerie, Frostbite, and Tesla.

“I shall destroy all you worthless insects!” Morjok proclaims.

Those with mystic senses can tell that the Twilight Realm’s growth as stopped.

Roll Call: Tilt-A-Whirl

And for one last time, back in San Diego, Lavender’s mass teleportation releases everyone. She, the vans, all the men who originally rode in them, Tilt and fuzzy wussy reappear somewhere else. Tilt quickly looks around and finds that it’s a vast chamber that easily holds them all.

Overhead fluorescent lights provide illumination. Most of the room is constructed of concrete. Several doors, several large enough to allow vehicles access is noted. The chamber is two stories high and observation booths and control rooms are noted up there. Large glass windows allow sight and several normal looking people are up there.

It’s clear that this chamber is completely enclosed from the outdoors, maybe even underground perhaps. The doors all bear the logo of “Infinity Exports.”

“Round them all up!” The leader of the armed men calls out. “We’ve got to clean up this mess and right now!”

Gargoyle regains his feet, with wisps of smoke rising from the impression Morjok's attack left echoing through the nerves in his chest. Undaunted by the lord of this realm's attack, Gargy grins at his assailant.

"YA PACK A MEAN PUNCH THERE, SPARKY, I'LL GIVE YA THAT!! BUT CAN YA TAKE IT AS WELL AS YA CAN DISH IT OUT!?!

With Strength sill surged to +20 and all levels to OCV Gargoyle ones again flexes his miniature leg muscles and takes to the air and will attempt to land a feet-first move through on Morjok.
It's not paranoia when they're really out to get you!

Frostbite

“I am the master of dimensions!” Morjok rages. “You dare presume to disturb me?”
“Master of Dimensions? What are you over compensating for?” Shaking his head as his eyes go wide as Gargy takes the brunt of a powerful attack.

Narrowing his eyes, Frosty turns back toward the form of Morjok. Further back behind them, and beyond this floating rock there is a golden platform holding an unknown woman in white, a man dressed in robes, and a second man who seems strangely familiar to Flux, Menagerie, Frostbite, and Tesla.

Hearing the words of Gargy, Frosty gets an idea, though he just hopes it will work. He will concentrate on Making an Ice wall above Morjok, and dropping it on his large over inflated head.

“Something is happening down there!” he calls out to Blackout as he sees a large flash of light then nothing. As he lands he sees nothing but bullet casings. Bending down he picks a few up and rolls them in his finger tips. “Seems we don’t have much to go on, except this Infinity Exports.” He says evenly. “Im going to go check in with the Viligant and get another communicator. See what I can find out while I’m there.”

Within moments Lash will leap into the sky and head back to base where upon arrival, seek out a new communicator as well as speak with Edgar and the good Doctors. Within short order he will ask Edgar, “Can you pull up any data on Infinity Exports, I just had a run in them and they have my communicator. Only fitting I pay them a visit so they can return it.”

He will also ask the Doctors what they may know of it as well.

On The Matter of Heroes

Post by Bruce »

Eldrich Arcane

They have settled upon their strategy of madness. There is nothing for it but to follow and adapt as best I can.

"I shall remain with the Magus and the White Witch. My reach is long and I can defend against magical attacks. I shall stand ready to ward off any such directed against us."

The mention of the Purple Phlox stirs other strange memories in Eldrichs' mind, of a time before this ,yet after.

They speak of other mages and 'heroes' in the same breath. There is put to rest the last of my doubts about this lot. They lied to me. They care nothing for the realm just left. They disparage 'heroism'. Whatever else befalls, they must not succeed Morjok in this realm.

Eldrich prepares his Spell of Undoing and readies it against any incoming attack. . .

Flux

As Flux moves in to sweep away the trident wielders Goldstar becomes-him!

That clinches it-must be Lily. Hm, I look like that from the side?

Flux swats them down , Gargoyle draws the attention of Morjok rather dramatically and gets blasted in return. New players appear next to Morjok and in the background. Lady Bale and the Black Paladin everyone knows and loathes. Of those further back only one seems familiar to Flux but not in the same context.

More funny business with memory. I'll sort it later. Whoever he is, he's with them now. Priority is Morjok.

"Good evening Menagerie. That's a new look for you. Tell me later how you got in here."

Flux will now shift to small size and land on to the ground next to Morjok preparing for his Growth-Punch special.

Long, Strange Trip

Post by Menagerie »

Menagerie:

The use of Flux's intangibility power proves successful as Menagerie floats right through the energy bubble created by the alien tridents. Even as she does so, the rest of The Vigilant arrive and begin to lay the smack down on Morjok's trident-weilding guards.
Flux wrote:"Good evening Menagerie. That's a new look for you. Tell me later how you got in here."
"Yes, but I don't think it's really me. Looks better on you, boss." Menagerie smiles as she floats down to the surface of... whatever it is they are standing on out here. "Good timing on your arrival by the way..."

The Vigilant's attacks remove most of the remaining guards, leaving them alone with Morjok himself. However, it is Gargoyle's attack that disturbs Morjok's spell and draws his ire.

Moments later, Gargoyle is seen disappearing into the distance as a result of Morjok's power.

Into this chaos steps Black Paladin and Lady Bale, drawing a groan from Menagerie. Not them! And who is that man back there... he looks awfully familiar...

No time to figure it out right now. Menagerie returns to her own form, boosting her abilities as she does so. Then, racing off at heightened speed, she loops around for a blow at that giant blowhard, Morjok.

Following close behind, Covenant is given cause to rethink his earlier assessment. Morjok is enough of a nuisance, no telling what these foolish mortals may do if they actually succeed in wresting control of The Twilight Realm from him. Still, Covenant bides his time, lets The Black Paladin and his consort put some distance between themselves and their allies, maybe even get Morjok's attention. When the White Witch summons her power to aid her husband (I assume with the usual gesturing invocations) is when Covenant will strike. Moving with an inhuman celerity Covenant will lash out with his sword (Levels to OCV), intent on severing her hand at the wrist! (In hopes of not only fouling the spell, but hindering any additional spell casting and maybe even stun her husband into a momentary hesitation). Pivoting low defensively Covenant will attempt to sweep the feet of her two male companions out from under them by battering their ankles with the flat of his blade (Don't know if that would be considered a sweep or multiple move by). If I'm unable to get them both, I'll focus on The Magus as I don't want him getting all stronger on me after assaulting his wife.

Sorry Eldrich :(

Blackout will get Backlash's attention and change the direction of his swing. Unfortunately, by the time they arrive, everyone and nearly everything is gone...

Blackout seems a little distracted, but then turns to respond to Backlash, "All right. I'll remain here on the off-chance there is anything left behind. I sincerely doubt it, but might as well be thorough."

Once Backlash leaves, Blackout will see if he can find anything else, but probably knows it's all for naught. If the mysterious figure doesn't emerge into the open during this time, Blackout will see if he can't get into a good advantage and try to come up behind the individual, either from another rooftop, or from behind and below if need be.

Whichever way it happens, Blackout will address the mysterious figure, "Nice night for a stroll, isn't it?" He will remain wary given just how things have been pretty much all night long.

"Go get them," Tesla calls after Powershift, noticing how much faster he is moving here. She smiles and follows up close behind, unleasing more plasma, forcing all she hits to get out of the way quickly.

Tesla's eyes go a bit wide at seeing the boyish Gargoyle go hurtling past and nearly tumbling off of the floating island. "This is definitely going to get painful if we don't wrap things up quickly."

Then the Black Paladin and Lady Bale materialize behind Morjok. Tesla is surprised to see them and wonders if they are allies of Morjok's, but it seems they are working against him as well. Plenty of time to deal with them in a bit, as they can use the extra help right now to take down the self-proclaimed "master of demensions."

While she contemplates using her entangle and drain, she knows she hasn't quite perfected things yet, so instead, she opens up with a straight forward blast of plasma at Morjok to see how he fares against that first.

Interlude:

Somewhere beyond time and space she sits, watching and waiting how a seeming infinite number of events unfold. Each is represented as a game board with various pieces depicting various beings. Such was the task she was created for. She is Tesseract, the self-appointed guardian of time and space. It was her mission to prevent time from being manipulated to foul ends and stop extra-dimensional incursions. Sometimes the locals would resolve the problem for her, still other times she had to act directly. Such was the nature of the games that she played.

She was nothing special too look at. She had brown hair and wore white robes with gold embroidery. Then she realized that she was not alone. Stepping into view was another woman who looked suspiciously just like her. However, her robes where black with gold embroidery.

“Surprised to see me?” The woman in black asked.

“No.” The woman in white answered plainly.

“Shall we play a game?”

“The rules?” The woman in white inquired.

“None.”

“The scope?”

“The multiverse.” The woman in black answered smugly.

“The stakes?”

“Everything.”

The woman in white considered for a few moments. She gestured and one of the game boards was cleared. “Make your first move.”

Roll Call: Backlash, Blackout & ?

Backlash and Blackout have caught up to Lavender and the other Infinity Exports vans only to have all of them vanish yet again. While none of you know who this Lavender woman really is, it is clear that she’s a world-class teleporter! The two heroes examine the now deserted scene and it offers little in clues beyond a few discarded shell casings. Backlash decides to return to the nearby Starr Building to check in and grab another comlink as he lost his earlier. Blackout remains behind to investigate further.

As Backlash leaps about, he can’t help but notice the large white bubble engulfing Horton’s Plaza. Clearly something weird is going on there. Upon reaching the Clinic in the Starr Building, Dr. Williams brings Backlash up to date. Edgar is connected to the Clinic as well.

“Infinity Exports is a company that transports goods from various ports all over the world,” Edgar explains. “They were formed six years ago and are using an old oil drilling platform as a base of operations twenty miles off shore. They use this platform like a giant floating warehouse. I can’t find any records of any trouble with them before.”

“This is curious,” Edgar continues. “The homing beacon in your missing communicator was last detected at this Infinity Exports platform! It’s there right now.”

Elsewhere Blackout realizes that he is not alone. Someone or thing is watching from the rooftops. Slipping out of sight Blackout sneaks up on the mystery individual and calls out to him. The stranger has yet to respond.

Roll Call: Flux, Menagerie, Tesla, Covenant, Eldrich, Frostbite, Gargoyle, Xanaphia, Powershift, & Sea Guard

In the heart of the Twilight Realm, the Vigilant and company have located Morjok, a being of immense magical power who is attempting to overwrite Earth’s dimension with his own! While the heroes fight their way through Morjok’s minions, other arrivals are noted. The infamous Black Paladin has just teleported in with his consort, the notorious Lady Bale. Behind them standing on a floating golden platform is a blond haired woman wearing an outfit similar to Lady Bale’s but in all white. With her is a man in robes and another man who is vaguely familiar to some of the heroes.

The Gargoyle manages to interrupt Morjok’s casting and draws his ire. A blast of magical energy sends the small boy flying backwards, but leaves Gargoyle no worse for wear. He’s quickly back up and leaping back into the battle.

Powershift bears in on Morjok. His powers are greatly enhanced in this magical realm, as is everyone who has mystical abilities. ‘Shift flies up to Morjok and strikes him with a might blow! This time it is the magical villain who goes flying backwards over seventy feet!

Before Morjok can rise again, Tesla engulfs him in fiery plasma! The Master of Dimensions screams in pain, but somehow remains conscious from the attacks.

Due to Powershift’s actions, Morjok is no longer near Black Paladin and Lady Bale. The pair follow Morjok’s path, intending to reach him. Their progress is interrupted as Gargoyle comes crashing down! The hulking small boy creates a large impact crater and those close to him are knocked from their feet.

Much further away, behind the floating Golden Platform, the being known as Covenant prepares to make his move. However, before he can do so he becomes aware of the presence of another close to him. Someone that is familiar!

Turning the ashen skinned man finds Serena hovering in the void a few dozen feet away. She’s a diabolically attractive woman with long black hair. However, there is something new about her. Instead of her wearing her usual armor a skin-tight black outfit covers her completely from the neck down. She smiles malevolently.

“Hello, brother dear,” Serena purrs. “That looks suits you. You look like a corpse. Still serving that old sod we call a father? He’s old news now as I serve an even greater power than his. My new mistress wants your services, what for I can hardly imagine, as you are so weak and pathetic. So, do you want a taste of real power and rule at my side or will you be swept away by the new order?”

Back at the battlefield, Powershift flies closer to the prone Morjok. “You are defeated,” Powershift declares as he lands. “Surrender and undo what you have started!”

Morjok, his head down as if struggling to gather his wits says nothing for a moment. Then in quick motion he rises before Powershift!

“I do not surrender to lesser beings!” With that, Morjok drives his hand into Powershift’s chest! It latches on to the Jewel of Krin and with a quick motion jerks it out! Powershift cries out in pain and then slumps to the ground. “Now your power is added to my own!”

Frostbite and Sea Guard reach the scene too late to stop Morjok. Frosty fires an ice ram so as to avoid hitting Powershift, but the magical energy surrounding Morjok repels it. Sea Guard has better success, as his giant watery magical fist knocks Morjok away from Powershift’s prone body.

A bit further back, Black Paladin and Lady Bale regain their footing. The dark knight regards Gargoyle with distain. “Ignorant boy! You dare trifle with me?” The Black Paladin’s mace is thrown and it slams into Gargoyle, driving him just a bit deeper into his hole, but otherwise it does no real harm to the muscleman.

Lady Bale has eyes on another. She gestures to her left and catches the Purple Phlox with a blast of magical energy from her black gloves. The Phlox has been flying towards Morjok when hit and knocked off course. “I will take your staff this time,” Lady Bale declares excitedly.

The Purple Phlox hits the ground hard, but keeps her wits about her. “You want the staff? Here! Take it!” A burst of purplish fire leaps from the staff and engulfs Lady Bale! The villainess screams in agony from the magical flames.

Back at the Golden Platform, Eldrich keeps watch. He sensed that the being encountered earlier was following and seemed poised to attack. However a second being appeared and the pair seemed to converse. Looking ahead, Morjok has been violently moved away from Black Paladin and Lady Bale. Even worse, the Master of the Twilight Realm seems to have taken a powerful magical artifact from one of the heroes, amplifying his already impressive abilities!

The White Witch finishes her spell, and her powers are transferred to the Magus. The robe clad mage then casts his own spell. It strikes Morjok and begins to drain power away from him!

Back at the main battle, Flux shrinks has he flies along until he is tiny in size. He then lands at Morjok’s feet.

Menagerie reverts to her normal form and then dashes off, racing towards Morjok amplifying her strength in the process. The heroine collides violently with Morjok, but was unable to penetrate his magical defenses. Instead she ricochet’s off and goes sprawling across the landscape, a bit dazed from the impact.

Roll Call: Tilt-A-Whirl

Tilt finds that she has been teleported somewhere else by the woman known as Lavender. The commander she Topsy-Turvied earlier demands that everyone be captured.
"whydoyouhavetobesobad?" Tilt asks as she rushes the same man she affected earlier. She’ll hit him with her topsy-turvy power and then go rushing off to try to find a way out of here before that lavender woman takes them someplace even less fun than this.

Tilt is on the man before he can defend himself and he goes down disorientated once more. Gunfire breaks out and Tilt races to keep ahead of it. As she rushes about the room, Tilt notices one of the doors opening. Making a break for it, Tilt rushes towards it only to find more armed men entering! She moves through and around the men before they can even react!

Now out in the hallway, Tilt races along, looking for a way out of this place. She comes to a stop upon reaching a window. Much to her surprise, the place she is inside is underwater! Fish swim past the window and Tilt can see that this is all of a much larger underwater complex!

Now what?

Covenant sighs in disdain at the figure hovering near him.

“Would that our mother had ripped us Both from her womb if only so I wouldn’t have to endure your prattle.”

“Spare me your insults, and run along like a good little lap-dog; I think your master is calling.”

Covenant will hold action for the time being, waiting to see what happens next. Any attacks thrown his way (especially Serena’s) will be missile deflected (all Levels to OCV of course.)

Backlash

Placing another comlink within his ear, he listens to the good Doctor.

“Apparently they are transporting a little more then goods. I just dropped in on one of three vans. The men inside had enough equipment to bring down several rhinos. They were hunting something that was very fast.”

“Looks like I’ll be making a house call later, whether "When was the last you heard from them? Where did they enter? And did they call for all members to join? he asked Edgar

If told All members who were free to go, Lash will not hesitate in joining them in the bubble, Figuring the center is the key he will attempt to move in that direction.

Tesla:

Powershift bears in on Morjok. His powers are greatly enhanced in this magical realm, as is everyone who has mystical abilities. ‘Shift flies up to Morjok and strikes him with a might blow! This time it is the magical villain who goes flying backwards over seventy feet!

Before Morjok can rise again, Tesla engulfs him in fiery plasma! The Master of Dimensions screams in pain, but somehow remains conscious from the attacks.

"That's called teamwork!" Tesla calls out, watching Morjok writhe in pain, "something you meglomaniacs never seem to understand."

"That's not good," Tesla says as she is helpless to watch the scene unfold. Frostbite, Sea Guard and Menagerie all get into the act, but Morjok doesn't seem too concerned.

She positions herself to fire off another blast of plasma since it worked so well the first time. Of course, Tesla doesn't know if Morjok really has increased his power, but no time like the present to find out.

Long, Strange Trip

Post by Menagerie »

Menagerie:

The fight continues, with Powershift and Tesla both seemingly able to harm this Morjok. Then, startlingly, Morjok rips the enchanted gem from Powershift's chest - something Lily would not have thought possible!

Off to one side, Gargoyle and the Purple Phlox mix it up with Black Paladin and Lady Bale. Neither side seems to gain much of an advantage, though Lady Bale appears to be in pain.

Something is going one with the mysterious companions of Black Paladin and Lady Bale - one of whom looks strangely familiar, though she cannot place where she's seen him before - but their attack on Morjok appears to be having some kind of effect. What that may be, Lily really doesn't know.

Enough watching. Time to act. Menagerie races off and loops in to attack Morjok, but succeeds only in bouncing herself painfully off his mystic defences.

Rising shakily to her feet, it seems that energy-based attacks appear to be more effective against Morjok than physical ones. Transforming back to the form of Goldstar, Menagerie unleashes Goldy's most powerful energy attack at him.
__________________________________________________________
I don't recall what it was called, but Goldstar appeared to have 3 energy attacks of differing levels of power. Lily's going straight for the top one.

“CUTE MACE, I PREFER MY TOYS A LITTLE BIGGER!!”

Grabbing hold of Black Paladin by the ankles, Gargoyle will heave backward, trying to swing Black Paladin over his head, smashing him into the ground behind him before taking to the air and attempting to use his unwilling bludgeon to perform a Haymaker on Lady Bale. (Levels still to OCV, and I’ll be swinging from overhead so if I miss her Black Paladin will still get a second close encounter with the ground.)

(sorry for not posting sooner and sorry for the reworking)

Fenris having ignored the paranormal long enough decides to have some fun. He disappears into the shadows of the rooftop only to reappear behind Blackout. (activate force field, shadow teleport)

With a wicked grin he says, "So may I inquire to what is going here? Or do I have to beat it out of you?"

Several more figures appear all being Fenris, surrounding Blackout. They each move of their own accord but seem to launch an attack at the same time.

Suddenly Blackout's own shadow begins to pull him down onto the rooftop. (telekinesis)

The Fenrises begin to laugh as they move closer.

Interlude:

Beyond time and space, a game was in progress. The players were identical, only by their dress could you tell them apart. One wore white, the other black. At stake is everything.

On the dark side of the board, a figure appeared. It was a human female surrounded by glowing sparkles. She wore light blue high boots with a matching one-piece sleeved garment. The outfit had dark green trunks and shoulders. Her hair was blond and her skin was golden in color.

Before the female figure appeared another. It superficially resembled a legless humanoid tree, but was bound with chains. And before this figure, a second woman all clad in skintight black appeared.

“Are you surprised by this?” The woman in black inquired insufferably pleased with herself.

“Not particularly.” The woman in white answered without any emotion. “But please, do continue.”

The woman in black shrug off the comments and made her second move. A second golden skinned woman in light blue and dark green appeared in a control room somewhere else in time. The guards there were easily overwhelmed by her vast powers. Controls were activated and doors that should be sealed were opened. Machines that had been working within safety margins were overloaded. Something bad was about to happen…

Roll Call: Tilt-A-Whirl

Tilt-A-Whirl has been teleported somewhere else thanks to Lavender. Now inside the underwater portion of the Infinity Exports complex, Tilt looks for a way out.
"oohcool!" Tilt says looking outside, the danger forgotten for a moment. Then she remembers the bad party-crashing men and rushes off. She figures she might as well explore since she needs to find a way out anyway.
The speedster pauses to look outside at the ocean for a moment, before remembering to run off once more. The sounds of alarms filled the air. Movement could be heard behind Tilt, but she ran off once more before they could reach her.

As Tilt ran along, she passed many closed hatches, but some were open. Taking these Tilt ran deeper into the complex. She passed by signs indicating “danger” and “authorized personal only” without a thought.

All of the sudden, the path she was followed entered into a very large corridor. Large enough for motor vehicles to move in and out of. The noise of trucks moving attracted Tilt’s attention. Dashing off in that direction, the young girl found herself in a very large and very perplexing room. Large ramps, wide enough for trucks to go up and down lead from the large corridor to the center of the room. And at the center of the room was a series of electromagnetic coils.

Energy sparked around these coils and leaped to the area between the coils. There, the very fabric of reality was torn asunder. It was like a picture floating in mid-air. On the other side of the rift was a green field with a blue-sky overhead. A semi tractor-trailer was moving towards Tilt in the picture. The truck drew closer and closer until it emerged from the rift! It passed through the rip and drove down the ramp deeper into the Infinity Exports complex.

A series of overhead observation and control chambers ringed the upper levels of the chamber. And if Tilt would have happened to look in that direction, she might have noticed a woman clad in light blue and dark green working the controls. A vaguely familiar cloud of sparkles surrounded her body…

Roll Call: Flux, Menagerie, Tesla, Covenant, Eldrich, Frostbite, Gargoyle, Xanaphia, Powershift, & Sea Guard

The battle in the Twilight Realm continues! A turning point seems to have been reached as Morjok has gotten his hands on the Jewel of Krin, the magical artifact that is the source of Powershift’s powers! An unconscious Powershift falls at Morjok’s feet.

Right at the Morjok’s seeming moment of triumph, the Magus, his own impressive magical abilities amplified by the White Witch, strikes! His spell begins to drain away Morjok’s magical might!

Angered by this, Morjok spins towards the distant golden platform and unleashes a blast of magical energy. But Eldrich is there and ready to dispel the attack. The blast fades away, as if it never existed.

“Well done!” the White Witch purrs. “We are winning!”

Elsewhere, the other Dark Masters are not having such good fortune. The Black Paladin teleported himself and Lady Bale to engage Morjok directly, but he has since been moved across the battlefield. Instead the dark knight has encountered Gargoyle, while Lady Bale confronts the Purple Phlox. The Phlox was blasted by Bale, but retaliates by burning the villainess with her Crystal Staff. Those who would do evil burn from the flames of the Purple Phlox, as Lady Bale is finding out!

Unable to stand her screams, the Black Paladin throws his enchanted mace once more. The weapon catches the Purple Phlox in the stomach and sends her flying backwards. But before the dark knight can move to his consort’s side, the child-sized Gargoyle leaps from the impact crater he made earlier and reaches Black Paladin. Lifting the startled Paladin up, Gargoyle slams him down hard on the rocky plateau!

Closer to Morjok, the Vigilant continue their assault. Tesla engulfs Morjok in fiery plasma once more. Morjok’s defenses seem stronger this time, but some of the plasma does make its way through. It’s as if he’s getting weaker all of the sudden.

Frostbite launches a series of razor sharp icicles and these slams into Morjok’s shield. One does make its way through, stabbing the evil conqueror in the process.

Menagerie shifts forms once more, back to that of the famous heroine Goldstar. With a cry of “Radiation Blast!” Menagerie unleashes another attack. Much like Tesla’s efforts, much of it is blocked by Morjok’ shields, but some of it does seep through.

From seemingly out of nowhere, Flux suddenly enlarges, growing form very tiny to titan sized in a heartbeat right underneath Morjok! The dimensional conqueror is uprooted and violently tossed into the air! His personal shield is rented by the assault and for a moment he looses his grasp on the Jewel of Krin.

Sea Guard acts at that moment. Generating a water arm from his Elemental Ring, the sea-going hero grasps the Jewel and draws it back. While Morjok violently hits the ground behind him, Sea Guard gentle pushes the Jewel of Krin back into Powershift’s chest.

“Hang on, pal!” Sea Guard says. “This’ll make you feel better.”

Much further away Covenant is watching while his sister, the malevolent Serena, is badgering him.
Covenant sighs in disdain at the figure hovering near him.

“Would that our mother had ripped us both from her womb if only so I wouldn’t have to endure your prattle.”

“Spare me your insults, and run along like a good little lap-dog; I think your master is calling.”
“You’re such a dimwit,” Serena counters with distain. “Have you heard nothing that I said? Father has fallen! I rule Thulkos now! Let me show you!”

Serena waves her hand and an image appears in the void. It is Thulkos, the home dimensions of Tyrannon the Conqueror. Matter here formed into bands instead of spheres. So instead of planets, impossible huge bands of matter float twisting in space.

The image moves in tighter, towards the seat of Tyrannon’s power. The eight suns of Kae Linn shine down on the conqueror in this true form, that of a huge ebony tree, legless, but with arms and a head. Numerous limbs emerge from his upper body.

But to Covenant’s shock chains do bind Tyrannon! And even worse, his essence is being drained away into what can only be the near mythical Thanatic Rod!

“Now does your simple mind begin to grasp the power of which I speak?” Serena continues. Looking back towards the battle, Serena notes that Morjok has been defeated. “But if you are too afraid, then perhaps I can get someone else to who isn’t afraid to wield real power…”

With Morjok’s defeat, the Twilight Realm begins to collapse! Without Morjok’s will to hold it together, the boundaries of the intruding dimension receded. A wall of white energy rushes back to its source, and what had been transformed in its wake is undone! In a blink of an eye, the white bubble that surrounded Horton’s Plaza is gone and the shopping center restored. The Vigilant and their allies now find themselves inside the plaza, near the place where some of them vaguely recall a sacrifice to have taken place.

Most of the heroes, the fallen Morjok, Black Paladin, and Lady Bale are on the ground floor. Eldrich, Magus, and the White Witch are standing on a higher level over looking the plaza below. And still above them are Covenant and Serena. The magical enhancement that all the mages were feeling is now gone. Their power levels have returned to normal.

“NO!” The White Witch screams in a combination of anger and horror. “The power is gone!”

Roll Call: Backlash, Blackout & Fenris

At the Starr Building, Backlash is questioning the teams sentient AI, Edgar.
“Looks like I’ll be making a house call later, whether "When was the last you heard from them? Where did they enter? And did they call for all members to join?” he asked Edgar.
“Master Flux did try to contact all members at the time, but could not reach you or Menagerie. One moment, sir.”

After a pause, Edgar continues.

“I am pleased to report that the white bubble seems to have contracted back and is now gone! The Horton’s Plaza area has returned to normal.”

Back at the last location Lavender has been, Blackout has come across a stranger lurking on the rooftops. The stranger finally responds to him.
Fenris wrote:With a wicked grin he says, "So may I inquire to what is going here? Or do I have to beat it out of you?"

GM Notes

Post by GM Mad »

GM Notes:

Couple of notes for our newer players. Please put your character’s name right at the top of your posts, like everyone else does. This was done years ago when we had multiple characters by the same user and is still used in all games today.

Fenris, you posted way too many actions in your post. It’s not like Blackout is simply going to stand there and let you do things all those things without acting. Thus far you’ve teleported and tried Images thus far. All actions are what you’re going to try to do. I decide if they succeed or not, so those results are not something you would include in your post.

Lastly, there are a couple of new pics over in the Crucible Gallery. There’s one for Darkstar, the Goldstar-like clone who appeared in the post and a new one for Lavender that’s closer to my original concept.

Now what?

A series of overhead observation and control chambers ringed the upper levels of the chamber. And if Tilt would have happened to look in that direction, she might have noticed a woman clad in light blue and dark green working the controls. A vaguely familiar cloud of sparkles surrounded her body…

Flux

And just like that we're back.

"Vigilant! Secure the area! Seaguard, Frostbite, back up the Phlox. Tesla, take that black robed joker. Menagerie you and me on the others with him."

Flux makes no mention of the Black Paladin. Gargoyle seems to have him literally well in hand.

Flux will seize hold of Morjok with his left hand as he is still large sized and look directly into the eyes of the Magus.

"You have this one chance to surrender. Take it now. There is no second offer."

(Presence-backed threat with large size chaser!)

If it looks like he won't surrender or is attempting an escape Flux will 'poke' him with a restrained amount of force. Right now he is at maximim strength!

On The Matter of Gains and Losses

Post by Bruce »

Eldrich Arcane

It all seemed to be going well from Eldrich's perspective. Morjok was engaged with the others when the Magus applied his Magical Siphon spell. The White Witch augmented his powers. And even though Morjok sized an Item of Power from one of the heroes he didn't keep it long!

Morjok's return fire dissipated under the Disbursing Burst spell and Morjok himself fell under the heroes assault. The enforced intersection of the Twilight Realm ended with Morjok's fall.
“NO!” The White Witch screams in a combination of anger and horror. “The power is gone!”

Yes, the only real loss here. I . . .

And the black tide of the curse rushes in to blot out all the recent gains of Turjess Malkindor's memory. Everything of his past is lost once more in the dark. Within moments Eldrich is reduced to his previous state of ignorance.

. . . cannot . . . remember . . . who are all these people?

Some of the recent events sort themselves out quickly for him. Assessing the situation anew he resolves to distance himself from these evil minded mages as soon as conveniently possible. To that end he looks at Powershift and commits him to a future Step Spell destination.

"Stand ready!", he says to the White Witch. " All is not yet settled here."

Eldrich mantains his Disbursing Spell readiness . . .

Long, Strange Trip

Post by Menagerie »

Menagerie:

The white-garbed male on the golden flying platform creates some kind of effect that angers Morjok. Morjok retaliates, but the other male on the platform causes the attack to dissipate. Strangely, both of these males look vaguely familiar to Menagerie...

Closer, Black Paladin attacks the one called Purple Phlox, and is in turn grabbed and slammed to the ground by Gargoyle. Several attacks - including her own - strike Morjok and seem to have some small effect. Then, and unnoticed Flux gets BIG and knocks Morjok away, destroying the latter's defensive shield and causing the Jewel of Krin to be dropped. Sea Guard scoops up the Jewel and restores it to Powershift.

Before she has a chance to act again, the mystical realm contracts rapidly upon itself, winking into nothingness shortly thereafter. The heroes find themselves and the various others in the middle of Horton Plaza.
Flux wrote:"Vigilant! Secure the area! Seaguard, Frostbite, back up the Phlox. Tesla, take that black robed joker. Menagerie you and me on the others with him."
"You got it!" Gold-Lily flies toward the woman in white who just yelled. "I'm not sure who you are, but consider yourself 'in custody' until the authorities arrive. Any attempt to flee will be met with force." She glances over the familiar man nearby. "You as well." Though she returns her attention to the White Witch, she repositions herself where she can see him as well. If either one appears to be activating a power, she will hit them with Goldstar's Photon Blast.
I'm not better than you. I am you.

As he speaks, Blackout can sense that the figure moved, seemingly teleporting from one place to another. Blackout cannot be sure if he is doing anything else at the moment.
Another teleporter, Blackout thinks as he finds the mysterious figure first in one place then instantly elsewhere. He finally speaks up, which allows Blackout to find out just where he went much faster.

"As far as what is going on here, I'm trying to find that out myself," Blackout responds. "If you wish to attempt to beat anything out of me, I at least know how this particular encounter will end."

Blackout will be ready to go full defensive should this figure attempt to attack. It could just be bravado at this point, but with the way the night has been, there certainly are no guarantees.

Should this person attack, Blackout will be ready to hurl his rod in response at the soonest opportunity. He will not, however, make any moves for it now.

back to normal...?

Tesla:

With Morjok’s defeat, the Twilight Realm begins to collapse! Without Morjok’s will to hold it together, the boundaries of the intruding dimension receded. A wall of white energy rushes back to its source, and what had been transformed in its wake is undone! In a blink of an eye, the white bubble that surrounded Horton’s Plaza is gone and the shopping center restored. The Vigilant and their allies now find themselves inside the plaza, near the place where some of them vaguely recall a sacrifice to have taken place.

"Can't say I'm not happy that's over," Tesla says upon seeing Horton's Plaza once more rather than the mind-boggling magical realm they were just in.

"Vigilant! Secure the area! Seaguard, Frostbite, back up the Phlox. Tesla, take that black robed joker. Menagerie you and me on the others with him."

"Gladly," Tesla says, then turns her attention to her target, "Easy or hard, you're still coming with us."

Assuming that there is resistance, Tesla will fire a blast of electricity to put a point on things. If things persist, she will then use her electricity to bind and drain her opponent.
