Eternal Vigilance #65 - "The Rise of Magic"

Roll Call: Flux, Frostbite, Powershift, & Sea Guard

The Vigilant has returned to the Starr Building with Flux carrying three more stoning victims of Brother Basilisk. The three statues are safely stored until the stoning effect has worn off. Powershift and Sea Guard watch over them as the others of the team go their own way. Frostbite checks up on Gloria Starr.
Walking into the room Frostbite smiles as he sees Gloria alive and unstoned, "How you feeling? Can you remember anything that happened?" he asks concern written through out his Icy facade. Not sure if Gloria will recognize him or not, he slowly thaws out as his emotions get the better of him. "I'm glad your alright." he said as he took her in his embrace. "I can explain everything." and he will proceed to do just that.
“Hi”, Gloria says looking up. A relieved smile comes to her face as she stands up and hugs Frosty. “The doctor says I’m alright. I really don’t remember much. It feels like I just woke up from a nap.”

A few doors down, Powershift and Sea Guard tend to the other women. Each begins to revert back to human form. The first girl is a local college student named Abbey. The next is a young woman named Tabitha who was in town for the holiday weekend.

The third woman is older, perhaps in her mid-twenties. As she returns to solid flesh, you realize that she’s a stunningly attractive woman with platinum blonde hair and blue eyes. Her style of dress is very fashionable. Her eyes flutter for a few moments before opening. She spots both Sea Guard and Powershift, but doesn’t have the same sort of ‘Oh wow!’ reaction that the other two did. She seems to take the costumed men more in stride.

“This is most unexpected,” the woman says. “You’re members of the Vigilant are you not? How did I come to be here? Oh, forgive my manners. My name is Whitney Parks.”

While Sea Guard explains what happened to Whitney, Powershift has a far away look to him. ‘Shift snaps back to reality and interrupts the conversation between Whitney and Sea Guard.

“Forgive me miss, but we have important matters to attend to”, Powershift says as he pulls Sea Guard towards the door. “My mystic sense has gone into overdrive. Whatever it was that was going to happen tomorrow seems to be taking place tonight!”

Sea Guard utters a quick apology to Whitney and then is gone with Powershift. The pair catches up with Flux in a nearby conference room. The leader of the Vigilant appeared to be making notes on several writing boards, but has since erased them.

“Flux”, Powershift calls out. “Whatever that mystical event I sensed earlier is, it’s happening right now! We need to investigate!”

GM Note:

Frostbite can hear some of what Sea Guard and Powershift said regarding the magical event.

Roll Call: Blackout

Meanwhile, in Downtown San Diego, Blackout has spotted some sort of hairy man or animal stalking an unsuspecting woman. Sensing that the beast is about to lunge, Blackout springs into action. His swing line is tossed out and as he descends towards the street. The line secures itself to a pole and Blackout swings across the street. Reaching out, he grabs the woman a split second before the hairy man or animal can reach her! With the woman tightly in his grasp, Blackout swings back up to the rooftops.

Surprisingly, the woman does not scream from the action. She even seems to get closer to Blackout once they land on the roof.

“Hello there tall, dark, and handsome! You certainly know how to get a girl’s attention!”

As the woman speaks, Blackout reaches out with his senses. The hairy creature landed on the sidewalk and then leaped off once more. It’s rapidly moving away from him now. More movement is sensed in the street below. Three vans speed past and even more surprising is that there seems to be a teenage girl racing after them moving at superspeeds!

But before Blackout can contemplate his next move, the girl he just rescued throws her arms around his neck and passionately kisses him on the lips. Blackout’s senses can’t help but be turned to the girl. She seems to be young with a very flattering figure. She wears a pleasant perfume and her garments, what there are of them, seem to be made of vinyl or latex or some other similar material. They also hugged her like a second skin.

“You can call me Lavender,” the girl seductively purrs. “And you are?”

Roll Call: Menagerie

In a place that in no way resembles San Diego, Menagerie has found a path that seems to lead deeper into this strange world. By experimentation, she determines that the distortion affect isn’t as strong when she’s standing on the stone path. Even moving a few inches away from the path and she’s lost in the distortion affect of this strange realm. Taking the form of Goldstar, Menagerie flies onward staying close to the path.

Up ahead, a glow begins to form around the central convergence point. Then unexpectedly, the glow erupts as if it exploded. A wave of white energy is flung out in all directions. In just a few seconds it will reach Menagerie!

Roll Call: Tilt-A-Whirl

Back in San Diego, Tilt has observed not one or two, but three vans bearing the logo of Infinity Exports speeding past. Intrigued, the young super gives chase, but follows close enough behind so as not to be spotted. The vans speed through town giving Tilt the impression that they know where they are going. At times she thinks she sees something furry up ahead of the first van, but it’s hard to tell from her vantage point. The vans keep moving along and Tilt easily maintains her pursuit.

Roll Call: Tesla and Xanaphia

High in the sky overhead, Tesla and Xanaphia watch the Forth of July fireworks over San Diego Bay. The two talks some more before Tesla notes something odd in downtown San Diego in the Horton’s Plaza district. A large white bubble has emerged from the shopping plaza! It easily passes through solid materials as if they are not really there. Nothing can be seen through the bubble. As Tesla watches, she notes that the bubble is growing larger!

Roll Call: Backlash

Closer to the ground in Downtown San Diego, Backlash has gone out on patrol in the hopes of crossing paths with Chimera. Instead, his attention is drawn to the streets below. He catches a strange precession pass below. In the middle of the excitement are three white vans speeding through the streets. Ahead of the vans is a creature that upon first glance seems like a werewolf to Backlash! Trailing behind the vans is someone who is keeping pace on foot!

Roll Call: Eldrich

Elsewhere, a non-descript van moves though the late night streets of San Diego. It’s destination is Horton’s Plaza and it’s passengers are mages of some caliber or mystically sensitive. The man known as the Magus is the wheel and beside him is wife, the White Witch.
"Friend Magus, what might we expect to encounter in the way of difficulties? Who else knows of this confluence of magic?"
“It’s hard to say just who we might encounter. Surely any mystic can sense what is transpiring and that’ll draw them here. There will be those who wish to claim the magical energies for themselves and those who will want to prevent anyone from making use of them.”

The White Witch remains silent on the matter. She doesn’t seem to talk much and usually defers to the Magus when it comes to making decisions.

As the van moves along, something down the street is noted. A bubble of white energy emerges from the buildings! The bubble is growing and it seems to be the source of the magic you are sensing!

“There it is!” The Magus calls out in triumph. He mashes down on the accelerator and the van begins to move even faster towards the magical bubble. “Hang on! We’re going in!”

The Day's Not Over Yet!

Post by Bruce »

Flux
“Flux”, Powershift calls out. “Whatever that mystical event I sensed earlier is, it’s happening right now! We need to investigate!”
Dammit! It's too soon!

"All right! I'm right with you."

*Edgar. Notify all members. 'Magical event in Horton's Plaza appears to be happening now. All available members to stand ready in case needed. Powershift, Seaguard and myself inbound now.' Send that.*

Flux exits the building and offers a giant-sized lift to any that need it, then takes flight full sized toward Horton Plaza.

I don't get it. It's the wrong time of day for hostages to be found there, isn't it? This event may not be exactly the same one as before but wouldn't they still need sacrifices?

Flux makes a decision at that moment, to put aside the recollections of the coming days events. Whatever else holds true, nothing will be the same as last time and depending upon false expectations could lead to failures.

{I don't remember Goldstar's powers all that well. If she has a force field she can activate or force wall she can wrap around herself, Menagerie will do that. Otherwise, she'll max out the density power to increase her defenses as much as possible.}

"Fear not, I have you," Blackout says as he snatches the woman just a mere moment before the beast would have landed on her. Once back on the rooftops, her reaction is not one he expected, even if she was used to seeing heroes.
Surprisingly, the woman does not scream from the action. She even seems to get closer to Blackout once they land on the roof.

For a long moment he is somewhere else as he takes in all of her with his senses. When she says her name, his mind tries to place it with any costumed individuals he knows since she wears quite a seductive outfit.

"I'm Blackout," he says, regaining his breath from the kiss. He knows he should be careful here, but it's difficult. "Is there somewhere you need to be, Lavender? The hour is late to be out walking alone. I could drop you off somewhere."

Tesla:

After a bit Xana will look to Tesla " I/m getting hungry, do you know where we can get some food ? "

"Food would be a good idea," Tesla says, trying to think just what might be open at this hour. As she's thinking though, she spots something that seems stragely familiar and at the same time not at all.

"But it might have to wait," she says to Xana, pointing towards the enlarging bubble. "That's not anything that would be considered normal around here," she explains.

Wasn't the event supposed to be during the day? she thinks, but then wonders why she thinks that. She has a memory of seeing something like that during the day, or was it a memory?

Checking in with Edgar to inform him of what she spotted, Tesla will fly off towards the bubble. She will see if Xana will join her and wait just outside the bubble's effect, flying back as needed if it should continue to grow, until she hears from Edgar or any other of her team.

Backlash

Closer to the ground in Downtown San Diego, Backlash has gone out on patrol in the hopes of crossing paths with Chimera. Instead, his attention is drawn to the streets below. He catches a strange precession pass below. In the middle of the excitement are three white vans speeding through the streets. Ahead of the vans is a creature that upon first glance seems like a werewolf to Backlash! Trailing behind the vans is someone who is keeping pace on foot!

Leaping to and through, Backlash hears the screeching of tires and sees three vans tearing up the streets and a creature that looks like a werewolf!! Raising a curious eyebrow, Lash can’t help but see someone keeping pace by foot!!

Lash will see about Super leaping toward the vans… If he can time a landing on the roof of a van he will do so. If not he will just keep pace.
Take your best shot!

Frostbite

“Hi”, Gloria says looking up. A relieved smile comes to her face as she stands up and hugs Frosty. “The doctor says I’m alright. I really don’t remember much. It feels like I just woke up from a nap.”

“The guy who did this is in one of the other rooms. There were a few other women whom were saved as well. I’m glad your okay he said with a lingering hug. Then, he heard the voiced from the other room.

"All right! I'm right with you."
*Edgar. Notify all members. 'Magical event in Horton's Plaza appears to be happening now. All available membes to stand ready in case needed. Powershift, Seaguard and myself inbound now.' Send that.*
Looking at Gloria, he held his hands, “They may need help with this, especially after what I saw today. I’m going to help.” He said lightly kissing her.

Walking into the next room, icing up as he goes. “What about non-members?” he said evenly with a bit of hope in his voice.

Regardless of if Flux wants him or not, Frosty will Ice slide and see what is transpiring.

Roll Call: Flux, Tesla, Frostbite, Xanaphia, Powershift, & Sea Guard

Thanks to the mystical Jewel of Krin embedded in his chest, Powershift has sensed that the magical event is happening right now! He informs Flux and the leader of the Vigilant has Edgar notify the rest of the Vigilant. Edgar reports back that both Tesla and Xanaphia are approaching Horton’s Plaza right now, as they spotted a large white bubble engulfing the shopping center! Ominously, both Backlash and Menagerie do not respond.

Frostbite shows up and asks to come along.

Flux flies towards Horton’s Plaza in giant form, carrying Sea Guard and Frostbite. Powershift flies under his own power and in a matter of minutes the group catches up with Tesla and Xanaphia.

The situation is just as Tesla described. A large white bubble seems to be emanating from Horton’s Plaza, seemingly passing throw any solid matter in its way. The bubble is growing larger and larger.

The sound of tires squealing attracts the hero’s attention down in the street below. As you watch, a plain looking van speeds towards bubble! It passes through the bubble and is now gone from sight.

Roll Call: Backlash

While searching for Chimera, Backlash has instead come across a most unusual precession of vehicles and beings. What at first glance appears to be a werewolf is being chased through the streets by a trio of Infinity Exports vans that in turn are being followed by a girl speedster! Backlash leaps to investigate. The werewolf-like creature passes below him, as does the first van. As he nears the street, Lash sees the second van pass below. From the looks of his leap, Backlash will land on the roof of the last van.

Or that was the plan. Backlash lands hard on the roof and passes right through it! Continuing on, Backlash hits the deck of the van and passes through that as well! The van’s drive shaft snaps from the impact and the van careens out of control! The van suddenly begins to tilt for a moment and then does go over. The vehicle tumbles a few times before coming to a crashing stop.

The crash doesn’t harm Backlash much, but the other passengers in the van are not as fortunate. The inside of the van was loaded with uniformed men each carrying weapons. The hero does not recognize the uniforms. Some of the men are hurt, while others are unconscious. Backlash can hear his communicator going off, but it doesn’t seem to be on his person anymore. It’s somewhere among what remains of the van.

Roll Call: Menagerie

Somewhere else, Menagerie had been following a path in this strange realm she found herself in. Up ahead, a wall of white energy races towards her! In the form of the founder of the Vigilant, Goldstar, Menagerie braces for the impact. The wave races closer and closer and then seemingly, and harmlessly passes right through her. The entire dimension she’s in did ripple with the passing wake, reminding one of the passing of a wave of water.

Seemingly unaffected by the wave’s passing Menagerie continues along. Up ahead on the path, the heroine can see a figure standing there, barring her way. Its seven-foot tall male humanoid of some sort with glossy black skin. He wears a lead colored tunic and pants with a black sash. He wears a helmet that reminds the viewer of a serpent’s mouth, complete with eyes and fangs. The man’s face emerges from what would be the serpents’ mouth. The man holds a trident constructed of some dark gray metal in his hands.

Once Menagerie is close enough, the being speaks.

“Have you come to pledge yourself to Morjok, the Great Power of the Twilight Realm?”

Roll Call: Tilt-A-Whirl

Back in San Diego, Tilt rushes after the speeding vans. She’s unaware of Backlash as he approaches, but can’t help but notice when he crashes through the roof of the last van! The van weaves back and forth before finally tumbling over and crashing! Tilt has a front row seat to the crash.

Going to keep chasing the other vans or remain at the crash site?

Roll Call: Eldrich

The magical event is happening! Up ahead, a bubble of white magical energy is growing larger, emerging from the buildings around it. The Magus accelerates the vehicle he is driving and speeds towards the bubble. The van reaches the bubble and harmlessly passes through!

Then Eldrich can feel the group and their vehicle passing through a dimensional barrier. The process is momentarily disorientating. As Eldrich regains his focus, he can feel that everything is now different, that a great haze has been lifted from his mind. Thoughts and spells formerly denied to him rise up unbidden. This new dimensions is overflowing with magical energy! Any mage in this environment can’t help but be more powerful!

Looking around, Eldrich can see the vehicle gently tumbling through a bizarre magical realm. A few pathways wind their way through this realm, but they have no visible means of support. While this dimension might be confusing to the unskilled, Eldrich sees it for what it is.

Someone or thing of great magical power and skill, is forcing this magical realm into the world Eldrich just came from! If this process is uninterrupted, this new magical world will devour the one he just left. Eldrich can then sense the true power of this realm. It is an old, familiar one from the past. The name “Morjok” is spoken aloud.

The magical surge is almost intoxicating to the Magus and the White Witch.

“I feel alive with power!” The White Witch calls out. “I had almost forgotten what it was like to wield power such as this!”

“This is more than we ever could have hoped for!” The Magus adds. “With our enhanced magicks, we can restore our companions to their proper state. Then our plans can begin in earnest!”

Roll Call: Blackout

Back in San Diego, Blackout has just rescued and gotten up close with a woman calling herself Lavender.
Uncertainty wraps Blackout up for a moment, as this was not what he was expecting at all. He recomposes himself though and says, "Your life was in danger. I couldn't let that beast injure you, or worse."
“Ah, that’s sweet”, Lavender answers, her arms still around Blackout’s neck. “But there was really no need. I was actually trying to find that overgrown furball. He knows better than to sneak off on these illegal hunts!”
At first Blackout attempts to pull back from her lips, but that moment passes and he instead returns her passion in full. For a long moment he is somewhere else as he takes in all of her with his senses. When she says her name, his mind tries to place it with any costumed individuals he knows since she wears quite a seductive outfit.
Blackout cannot recall hearing of someone called Lavender before.
"I'm Blackout," he says, regaining his breath from the kiss. He knows he should be careful here, but it's difficult. "Is there somewhere you need to be, Lavender? The hour is late to be out walking alone. I could drop you off somewhere."
“Blackout, huh? Cool name. Is there anywhere I need to be? Probably, but right here right now suits me just fine.”

Before Lavender can continue, Blackout faintly hears a voice speaking to her. Since no one else is around, it must be from a headset or some type of communicator. The voice, that of a man, says, “Lavender! Shake that shapely rear of yours into gear! The Maxtik is still on the loose and something has caused one of the vans the crash. This is turning into a major disaster! Move it! Come to my location PDQ!”

It’s clear from Lavender’s body language that she’s not happy with that message. “Keep your shirt on, I’ll be right there.”

Turning back to Blackout she adds, “ Sorry, love, but duty calls. I wish I could stay longer, but I can’t. It could have been fun!”

Lavender releases Blackout and takes a few steps back. According to Blackout’s senses, Lavender is starting to fade away!

Menagerie:

The energy wave sweeps towards Menagerie in her Goldstar form at incalculable speed. Braced for impact as she is, Lily nearly falls over when the wave passes her by with no noticable effect.

*What? What was that?* she cannot help wondering.

With no answers to her questions, Menagerie continues on up the path toward the source of the energy wave. Soon, she can see a figure astride the path. Whatever he is, he's big, and not human. Gleaming black skin and a serpentine helmet. Still, the figure is humanish. Perhaps this is one of the native inhabitants of this place.
“Have you come to pledge yourself to Morjok, the Great Power of the Twilight Realm?”
Gold-Lily floats closer to speak with the entity, but it speaks first. "Who?" Menagerie replies. It occurs to Lily then that maybe that wasn't the best answer...

“Ah, that’s sweet”, Lavender answers, her arms still around Blackout’s neck. “But there was really no need. I was actually trying to find that overgrown furball. He knows better than to sneak off on these illegal hunts!”
"My apologies then," Blackout says. "I would have never taken you to be one to have such a hairy companion."
It’s clear from Lavender’s body language that she’s not happy with that message. “Keep your shirt on, I’ll be right there.”
Blackout pretends he doesn't hear the other side of the conversation and merely looks on quizically as she makes her reply so that she doesn't guess he heard the whole thing.
Turning back to Blackout she adds, “ Sorry, love, but duty calls. I wish I could stay longer, but I can’t. It could have been fun!”

Lavender releases Blackout and takes a few steps back. According to Blackout’s senses, Lavender is starting to fade away!
"That's a shame," Blackout says, playing along. He's guessing now that she isn't playing on the right side of the law. "So a raincheck then?" he adds as she starts to fade away, "unless you need any extra help."

Doubtful that she will want him tagging along, Blackout will try to sense any sort of trail or hint of where she might have gone. If that doesn't work, he will swing off in the last direction he saw the hairy beast bound off too and see if he can't pick up a trail or find the crashed van.

On the Process of Hostile Magic

Post by Bruce »

Eldrich Arcane

The van accelerates suddenly, into the expanding white field-and crosses a border from There to Here. The transition is disorienting to Eldrich and the Magus too. Fortunately, there is no danger of a collision. Very little here is solid. As Eldrich recovers, his being is awash in magical energies, flooding through his aethyric and physical form.

Ah. Memory! Knowledge! Power!! This place, I know it. The Realm of Morjok. Wickedness indeed. And no fit place for the likes of us.

Eldrich turns to warn the Magus and the White Witch of their mistake. . .
I feel alive with power!” The White Witch calls out. “I had almost forgotten what it was like to wield power such as this!”

“This is more than we ever could have hoped for!” The Magus adds. “With our enhanced magicks, we can restore our companions to their proper state. Then our plans can begin in earnest!”
. . . and stops before he begins. It is obvious that they do not know what is truly happening and he hates to dash their hopes but it must be said.

"No my friends. This is no fit place for our kind. Nothing good resides here. This is not a confluence of magic; it is an intrusion of the Realm of Morjok onto your own. Left unchecked it will devour you and all you hold dear."

Flux

Flux takes Frostbite at his word and scoops him up along with Seaguard and lifts off towards Horton Plaza.

"Glad to have you along, Frostbite. Hold on!"

As they get closer Tesla and Xanaphia come into view above the plaza, both of them looking down at an expanding white bubble of energy.

Turning to Flux and the others, Tesla says, "What do you boys make of that?" indicating the bubble. Suddenly something below catches her attention.

I'm getting the feeling of having been grossly misinformed.

Tilt-A-Whirl:

Back in San Diego, Tilt rushes after the speeding vans. She’s unaware of Backlash as he approaches, but can’t help but notice when he crashes through the roof of the last van! The van weaves back and forth before finally tumbling over and crashing! Tilt has a front row seat to the crash.

Going to keep chasing the other vans or remain at the crash site?

Tilt skids to a halt and watches the van crash. It's incredible! They must definitely be filming some new movie or television show. The other vans must be speeding off to the premiere party, so she doesn't linger. Racing off, she doesn't want to lose sight of the other two.
"wanna race?" ;)

Backlash

Lash looked down at the van as he leaped, he timed it well from what he could wager he might actually land on the van. Unfortunately he hits the van roof and passes right through! Many faces look to him as he hits the floor passing through that to, a large crack is heard as the drive shaft underneath cracked and broke in two. Within moments the van teeters left and right then flips, Causing lash to land hard back into the van among the armed men.

Ooof… Ouch! Ugh.. comes form his mouth as he lands hard on his side. Shaking the cobwebs from his head he looks around and his eyes widen as he sees Armed uniformed men all around him.

I’ll never hitch hike again… he said as he raised up out of the jumbled mess within the van. Hearing his communicator go off Lash goes to his shoulder and realizes it isn’t there. Can anything else go wrong he thinks to himself as he reaches down and tears a uniform top from one of the unconscious men, then leaves the van, Finding a phone Lash calls the authorities to come and get these armed men saying.

“This is Backlash of the Vigilant. There has been an…err car accident armed men in side you may want to send the swat team cause they are armed to the teeth!” Dropping the phone Lash goes back and grabs one of the conscious/hurt men disarms him and slams him against the car.

“I’m only going to ask you this once. Who do you work for and What is with all the hard ware?!” As he reaches back with his fist and curls it into a fist ready to lay him out.

Frostbite

Frostbite stepped on Flux's outstretch hand as they brought them closer to the scene at Horton Plaza. As Flux spoke Frosty half listened finally realizing what just might be at stake.

"I'll show them hostile if they hurt my family..." he said quietly as he awaited going through the dome.

Roll Call: Flux, Tesla, Frostbite, Gargoyle, Xanaphia, Powershift, & Sea Guard

It is the evening of July 4th, 1986. For some folks, this is the third time they’ve lived through this day. But each time the day has been very different. Another white bubble has appeared around the Horton’s Plaza area, but this originally happened tomorrow and had to do with a summoning ceremony gone awry. This is not the case this time. At least the Plaza has long been closed due to the lateness of the hour and the holiday. There are no innocents to worry about this time around.

Four members of the Vigilant are hovering over Horton’s Plaza, eyeing the ghostly white bubble, as it grows larger beneath them. Accompanying them is Frostbite, who seems vaguely familiar to some of the Vigilant members, and the mystery woman Xanaphia.
Flux wrote:*Edgar, inform city police of a situation in the area around Horton's Plaza requiring public notification to stay away from the area and to set up roadblocks to prevent entry. It is likely we will shortly lose radio communication. We will be entering affected zone momentarily*
“Already done, sir. The PRIMUS operative Gargoyle is on the way as we speak.”

That induces a groan from Sea Guard. As anyone who lives in San Diego knows, the Gargoyle is a large, obnoxious powerhouse who is working for PRIMUS as a kind of probation. He’s most unfriendly to deal with.
Flux wrote:"Everyone listen up. We have to pass through the white energy too just like that van to get to the center of the effect. There may be hostiles inside. There may be people trapped inside. We could be affected in unexpected ways. So could anyone else inside. Anyone not wishing to pass through here speak up now. If not, then we are going in! Be ready."
Just as Flux finishes his statement, the white bubble grows yet again. The sound of something very large falling from the sky is heard. A large gray colored man plummets from the sky, creating a large impact crater upon arrival! The Gargoyle has arrived!

Roll Call: Tilt-A-Whirl

Elsewhere in Downtown San Diego, Tilt-A-Whirl has just witnessed Backlash crashing through the roof of the last Infinity Exports van. The impact shattered the van’s drive shaft causing it to crash. Tilt dashes around the crash while taking it in at the same time. Believing to part of some planned event, she continues on after the other two vans.

The chase continues and from time to time Tilt can see the ‘doggy’ that the vans seem to be chasing. The furry creature suddenly moves to his right and leaps up onto the side of the building! It’s claws dig into the masonry and it begins to climb upwards.

The vans skid to a stop. From the lead van, a squad of uniformed and armed men rushes out and takes up defensive positions. The second van stops, turns around and backs up to face the building. Its rear doors are opened, but no one comes out. The armed men fire energy weapons at the furry creature, but none hit the desired target as it scampers up the side of the buildings.

Suddenly, there the air above the second van suddenly shifts and distorts. A small dot appears and it rapidly grows in size and shape until suddenly a scantily clad woman in a lavender outfit appears. The woman has very long black hair that whips about her on the breeze. She wears skintight lavender colored pants and an equally tight top. Ankle high, white high-heeled boots finish her attire.

“Grab it already!” One of the armed men shouts to the new arrival.

“All right, all right,” the woman grumbles. “You guys sure know how to ruin a girls evening.”

Up in the side of the building, the furry creature leaps in an attempt to reach the rooftop. A sudden distortion appears before it and it sucks the creature in to it. The creature’s body seems to shift and distort before vanishing into a single point that also finally vanishes.

Right before the opened doors of the second van, the effect Tilt just witnessed is reversed. A single point appears. It shifts and distorts until it takes the form of the furry creature! The creatures’ momentum carries it right into the back of the van. The doors are quickly shut behind it and Tilt can hear the furry creature growl its displeasure.

“Can I go now?” The lavender-clad woman inquires.

Roll Call: Menagerie and ??

Inside the white bubble, Menagerie finds herself in a realm completely alien to her own. What constitutes up or down is debatable at best. Stony paths criss-cross this place and being on one of these paths limits the disorientating effect. In the form of Goldstar, Menagerie moves deeper into this mysterious realm.

From time to time, a wall of white energy rushes out from the center of this place, but each time it harmlessly passes through her. Continuing on, Menagerie comes across a strange entity that demands if she has come to pledge her loyalty to Morjok, the greater power of the Twilight Realm. That was the same name those people outside of Horton’s Plaza were chanting!
Gold-Lily floats closer to speak with the entity, but it speaks first. "Who?" Menagerie replies. It occurs to Lily then that maybe that wasn't the best answer...
Before the dark-skinned entity can respond, another wall of white energy rushes past. But this time Menagerie feels different from it’s passing. Her golden skin is transformed into silver! She also feels much heavier then she did a moment ago.

But that’s not the only change this the passing of this wave. Another man appears in the wave’s wake.

GM Notes:

And I’ll let him introduce himself. A new character!

Roll Call: Blackout

A few moments ago, back in San Diego…
"My apologies then," Blackout says. "I would have never taken you to be one to have such a hairy companion."
“Oh, he’s no friend of mine!” Lavender retorts. “Cute guys like you are more my speed! But you gotta do what you gotta do, you know what I mean?”
"That's a shame," Blackout says, playing along. He's guessing now that she isn't playing on the right side of the law. "So a rain check then?" he adds as she starts to fade away, "unless you need any extra help."
“I can handle that furball, love. Thanks for the offer. Why do you hang around here for a while? I’ll see if I can make it back so we can pick up where we left off? It was just getting to the good part.”
Doubtful that she will want him tagging along, Blackout will try to sense any sort of trail or hint of where she might have gone. If that doesn't work, he will swing off in the last direction he saw the hairy beast bound off too and see if he can't pick up a trail or find the crashed van.
According to Blackout senses, Lavender seemed to have just vanished, having teleported away most likely. There is a noticeable rush of air to fill the area she just vacated.

Continuing onward, Blackout swings for a few blocks and comes across the van crash site. He can see Backlash moving down there.

Roll Call: Eldrich

Back inside the bubble, Eldrich has had the haze lifted from his mind. He realizes that Morjok, a powerful mage who rules the Purple Realm with an iron fist, is constructing this magical realm. This new realm is growing inside the world Eldrich and the others just left and will continue to expand until it is transformed completely.
"No my friends. This is no fit place for our kind. Nothing good resides here. This is not a confluence of magic; it is an intrusion of the Realm of Morjok onto your own. Left unchecked it will devour you and all you hold dear."
“Nothing good?” The White Witch questions, her normally demure demeanor vanishing. “This is power like I used to possess before it was ripped away from me. This is what I crave!”

“This Morjok may be powerful, but once we restore our companions we will number five to his one. I say we can defeat him and take this control of this realm for ourselves!”

With a wave of her hand, the White Witch uses her magic to reshape the van you’re floating in. It becomes a golden platform that she can move through this realm at will.

Tendrils of magical energy leap out from the hand of the Magus and move to surround the unconscious Paladin and Lady Virtuous. The pair awakens from their forced slumber and scream in pain. The magical energy caresses them, changes them and lifts them off the platform.

"Let what once was be again!", the Magus cries out. "Let the spell be broken!"

All at once, the magical tendrils retract away from the pair and they both drop to the floor. The change in the pair is dramatic. The Paladin's armor as now all black and does not reflect light; rather it seems to absorb it.

“You’ve done it!”, the White Witch says to her husband. “They have been restored!”

"I am whole again!", the former Paladin roars in delight. "The Black Paladin does walk the earth once more! Let lesser men tremble in fright!"

Turning to the Magus, the Black Paladin takes his mace in hand.

"I am in your debt, my friend. You have restored me.”

“We are much alike, you and I. What I propose is…” The Magus starts to say.

The former Lady Virtuous is no longer in white. All of her garments, what there are of them, are also black. Her clothing consists of a black corset that is laced up the front and bikini bottoms. Long gloves and boots, along with a cloak complete her ensemble.

"And I am Lady Bale once more!", the black-clad woman states, interrupting the Magus. "No longer do I call anyone master! My mind, my will is my own again!"

Turning to the Black Paladin she angrily adds, "You used me, controlled me like a puppet! No more! You'll pay for your indignities!"

Lady Bale draws her Sword of Kane and seems on the verge of attacking the Black Paladin!

"Stay thy hand, my consort", the dark knight says in a tender tone. "It was my original intention to heal your wounds, restore your youth and beauty from the shadow demons that had devoured it. I had not planned on binding you to my will. It was a side effect of the Lesser Eye of Azog. Indeed, its effects on me where not pleasant either. I also was not truly myself."

Stowing his mace, the Dark Knight moves forward and towers over the shorter woman. "It would greatly please me for you to remain at my side, to aid me in my endeavors as a companion and an equal and as my lover."

Lady Bale's angry features soften as she turns back to the dark knight. "I think-- If you truly mean what you say-- I think that would please me as well, milord. An alliance of equals does offer much opportunities." The Sword of Kane is sheathed once more.

"My word is my bond", the Black Paladin states as he gentle kisses Lady Bale's hand. "But betray me at your own peril. My anger knows few bounds."

The Magus coughs to get the dark couples attention. "As I was saying earlier, we are all much alike. An alliance between all of us would go far to accomplish all of our goals. I lack your brawn and battle skills, while the magical might of my wife and myself are unparallel. The White Witch does have powers beyond those magical in nature. Your charming consort seems to dabble in both of these fields. It seems to me that we are natural allies. An dark alliance of magical might and power. Do not let this opportunity to slip away."

The Black Paladin seems to be considering while Lady Bale looks back and forth between the two men and the White Witch, uncertainty playing on her face.

“There is power to be had in this place,” Lady Bale adds. “I can feel the magical energy surrounding me, caressing my body.”

“Aye, I sense it as well,” Black Paladin states. “Power that will soon be in our control.”

“Do not forget our other ally, my love,” the White Witch adds. “With out the assistance of Eldrich here, none of this would have come to pass. You are still with us, are you not?”

Roll Call: Backlash

Once more, we go back to San Diego. Backlash picks himself up out of the wreckage of the crashed van. There are armed, uniformed men strewn about the wreckage. Some are unconscious and those who are appear to be hurt. Reaching down, Backlash rips part of a uniform top off and takes it with him.

A nearby pay phone is used to summon the authorities. Returning to the van, ‘Lash grabs one of the conscious men lifting him up with ease. He slams him into the side of the can and questions him. The man seems in obvious pain.
“I’m only going to ask you this once. Who do you work for and What is with all the hard ware?!” As he reaches back with his fist and curls it into a fist ready to lay him out.
“In… Infinity Exports!” the man blurts out. “To capture… capture…”

And then the man falls unconscious.

"In… Infinity Exports!” the man blurts out. “To capture… capture…”
“To capture what?” He asks as his hand is about to lurch forward but then passes out. “Pansy.” He says as he drops the man down. Realizing there is a small chance of finding his communicator, Lash refrains from trying to find it. He gives a last linger look at the man at his feet noticing a head set he picks it up and proceeds to talk in it.

Groaning into the head set, “What hit us?” he plays off as if he was one of the armed men. “This is,” look down at the uniform’s hoping there is a name if not he will merely make one up, “We have many men hurt, van is totaled, Requesting assistance at….” What ever there position/intersection is.

An ear-piercing whistle continues to grow louder and louder until it ends in a deafening, earth shaking ‘THUD’. A 7’ 3” Grey skinned, muscle bound behemoth comes crashing down, landing on his feet; the pavement spider webs beneath him, fractured by the impact of his massive weight.

ALRIGHT! WHAT’S SO BLASTED IMPORTANT THAT A GUY CAN’T TAKE A HOLIDAY!?!

Gargoyle observes the bubble and scratches his head as he ponders.

NOW THERE’S SOMETHIN YA DON’T SEE EVERY DAY! I’VE HEARD OF A BLACK-OUT, BUT A WHITE-OUT?!?

Gargoyle is a 7’ 3” grey skinned behemoth muscle bound beyond all human reason. Short, white hair crowns his overhanging brow, which only serves to accent his brutish, Neanderthal appearance. Gargoyle appears to be incapable of whispering, his muscle knotted vocal chords boom out every word like a bullhorn.

Despite his unfriendly and antisocial reputation, and complaining to the contrary, it’s obvious that that Gargoyle has enjoyed his holiday to some measure, as the dried spots of ketchup and mustard that dot his bare chest bear testimony to.

An unfamiliar ‘man’, for lack of a better term, comes bounding out of the white wave that ripples outward from the center of this pocket dimension. He lands with a cat-like grace, crouched low, ready to spring to the offensive. His right arm, outstretched to his full arm’s length, bears a long, nasty looking blade that’s braced securely against that arm.

“Why would anyone want to pay homage to a would-be conqueror who couldn’t keep his hold on his own throne!”

The ‘man’ turns his bright red eyes on Menagerie, regarding her momentarily.

“You can bend your knee if you like; as for me, I’m not the groveling type.”

He smiles like a promise of violence, revealing excessively long and very sharp canine Incisors. If Menagerie gives him no cause to pause, Covenant will spring to the offensive and attack the warder.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Covenant is a well muscled ‘man’ standing about 6’ tall with penetrating, bright red eyes. His head is completely devoid of hair, and his pale skin has a pallor that resembles dead flesh. He’s wearing a suit of tight fitting leather armor that’s somewhat gothic looking in form; the armor is black with blood-red trim. He wears a long, black leather trench coat with a flare at the shoulders that resembling the silhouette of a bat in flight.

The blade he bears in an unconventional weapon to say the least. It has no cross bar and is wielded by a handle that juts out horizontally from the hilt, rather that by the hilt itself. It looks more like a metallic truncheon with a long, steel blade protruding from one end.

Menagerie:

Even as she asks her unsubtle question, Gold-Lily can see yet another energy wave approaching. Something about it seems different, but she has no time to react before it is upon her. This one leaves her feeling heavier than normal. A glance down shows that her shin has shifted to a silvery color!

Before she can do more than begin to wonder, she notes that another stranger has joined them. This one appears no more human than the other.
mysterious stranger wrote:“You can bend your knee if you like; as for me, I’m not the groveling type.”
"Uhm... no thanks," Menagerie replies, shifting to the form of Tesla and settling to the pathway beneath her feet. Lily wants desperately to know if this skin-change effect is permanent and whether it affects her powers in other ways.

The stranger seems inclined to attack the demon-man that had spoken moments before. Lily would rather not get caught up in this conflict if she can avoid it, so she focusses on avoiding any attacks that may be sent her way.

If the warder is goaded into attacking by the insult to its master, or was already predisposed to attack I’ll wait for it to close, pivot, and attempt to plant the butt of my sword sharply to the underside of its chin (HA Backed by full strength, Sword Levels to OCV, HtH Level to DCV).

If it stays put and doesn’t attack I’ll take a running leap at it, somersaulting at the apex of the leap and come down with a full arm swing planting the sword butt to the top of its skull (Again, HA Backed by full strength, Sword Levels to OCV, HtH Level to DCV).

“Let us see if your master is as discerning about choosing his subjects as he is at choosing his ‘Victims’!”

Eldrich Arcane

Eldrich watches the transformation of the comatose pair from a position of shocked confusion. The invocation is worded as a 'Restoration' but the result appears to transform the pair into baneful opposites of their selves! The resulting byplay of words exposes the full truth-and the full measure of evil is revealed.

I have been gulled. Foolish me. My Eye has not opened in time to reveal their perfidy and my mind was too 'mazed to comprehend their intent. Now they feel the power of Morjok and wish it for themselves! Madness! I cannot ally with such.

Eldrich feels the power around him as well. Strong, but unpleasant, it invigorates him and disrupts the Curse of Unknowing, freeing all of his memories.

I know who I am. I remember what I was. My name, my Mage name, my Truename, all revealed to me now. My crime and punishment are clear. I will never return home. That last realm is the only place for me now. And this place is poison to one such as I. Tread with care now, Turjess Malkindor, these are foul folk indeed.
“Do not forget our other ally, my love,” the White Witch adds. “With out the assistance of Eldrich here, none of this would have come to pass. You are still with us, are you not?”

"Magus, I thank you for my restoration. Without your intercession I would remain an unknowing captive. But I do not believe you can succeed here without more preparation. I strongly advise gathering a force of arms fully equipped to deal with the obstacles inherent in this realm."

And now we await the rebuttal: sure to follow, certain to be contradictory and perhaps violent.

Eldrich mentally sets himself to repel onslaughts with the Spell of Undoing while surreptitiously looking for the borderline back to the ream he had entered from. . .

Flux

The Gargoyle. . . The Gargoyle. Here's a switch. Everyone appears to know of him-except me. I don't remember ever hearing about him before. Proves my position about previous memories though. Not reliable.

“ALRIGHT! WHAT’S SO BLASTED IMPORTANT THAT A GUY CAN’T TAKE A HOLIDAY!?!”

Gargoyle observes the bubble and scratches his head as he ponders.

“NOW THERE’S SOMETHIN YA DON’T SEE EVERY DAY! I’VE HEARD OF A BLACK-OUT, BUT A WHITE-OUT?!?”

Flux inwardly groans but nothing passes his lips nor does his face betray any thoughts.

Mmph. Depending on how you look at it this is the THIRD time I've seen it. Obviously he doesn't remember it at all.

Flux addresses Gargoyle in a carefully neutral tone.

"We are about to cross the line into the area inside Horton's Plaza. Does the representative of PRIMUS care to join us?"

Shifting to the form of Tesla, Menagerie finds that the effect she just experienced is amenable to her power. A feeling of relief sweeps over Lily at the knowledge that her power still works and she hasn't been adversely affected in a permanent manner.

Seeing the newcomer leap to attack the strange guard entity, Menagerie shifts her form once again, becoming a doppleganger of the girl she met just a few hours ago: Tilt-A-Whirl. The change complete in less than a second, she races off down the pathway toward the source of the energy waves, quickly leaving the combatants far behind.

“Gargoyle? You have got to be kidding me! The guy is more muscle then brains….” A few moments later the resounding thud and cracking of the ground about him. True to what he had heard he gazed upon the large framed caveman. “See you have a eating disorder, Can’t find your mouth?” pointing at the ketchup and mustard stains.

"HORTON'S PLAZA?!? OH YEAH!!! YA KNOW I HAD A DREAM I CHASED A DINOSAUR THROUGH THERE!!"
“Did you hit with your club?” he adds sarcasticly.

"DON'T MIND IF I DO! LETS GO CRACK SOME HEADS!!"

“As long as it’s not mine.” He said under his breath as he follows the others on an Ice slide down into the white Bubble.

He gives up trying to erase all evidence the little spots ever existed when his attention is drawn to Horton’s Plaza.
Frostbite wrote:“Did you hit with your club?” he adds sarcasticly.
”LAUGH IT UP, SNOW CONE!! I BET YOU’LL BE THE LIFE’A THE PARTY IN INTENSIVE CARE!!”

Gargy continues to fume, but doen't take any agressive action and will otherwise resume as posted.

BTW, Dave.... I'm going to have to kill you!
It's not paranoia when they're really out to get you!

Blackout:
“Yeah, seems there are two more Vans about like this one. Never seen or heard of these guys… and they were chasing something furry almost like a werewolf. Saw them chasing the werewolf and leapt to follow them. He chuckled at the masked hero, I hit it, tore right through it and snapped the drive shaft….”

“I’m Going to see if we can bring the other two vans to us. Maybe the van has sometime of registration where we can find these guys.”
"Ahh, so you're the tank in question," Blackout replies full of mirth. "That werewolf-thing is actually why I'm here. I noticed and was tracking it, although you, I and these guys in the vans aren't the only ones with interest in it."

"If you can bring the other vans to you, that might answer a lot of questions we both have," Blackout adds.

Tesla:

Waiting for the Gargoyle has proven to be all Tesla imagined it would be... She looks over at Xana to see what she thinks of the PRIMUS representative.

Since it seems we're going to be heading into the bubble, Tesla waits for the Gargoyle to test the waters once everyone else has finished their jabs at the brute. If he meets anything in there he can't handle, then she'll know they're in trouble.
