The elves are reunited back at the Griffon Stable. They spend the evening relaxing and preparing for the day to come. The four recovered medallions are placed in the chest where the Star Crown was found. This is stored on the barge, which is then levitated above the deck and made invisible. The key will travel with the explorers, concealed in the food book found earlier in the chest.
Kylie notes that Robin has been keeping a low profile.
“Bored? Oh goodness gracious no. There’s been so much to see and explore! We brownies spend most of our lives trying not to be noticed, that it’s just natural to us now.”Once she goes looking for him, Kylie does indeed find their diminutive friend. "Hi, Robin! Good to see you're still about. I hope you didn't get too bored while we were gone."
Before turning in for the evening, Kylie tries an experiment.
The griffon responds, but the words don’t make any sense to Kylie. They come out badly garbled and meaningless. An idea occurs to Kylie, so she goes into the stables where the griffins are resting. Approaching the one she rode over the last couple days, Kylie casts Comprehend Languages while stroking the large avian. "Hello," she says in elvish. "Do you have a name?"
(Comprehend Languages allows the caster to understand the tongues spoken by other intelligent beings. Or in other words it allows the caster to understand languages that they can possibly learn on their own, such as Alphatian. Griffon speak is not a language unto itself and cannot be learned. Valena’s talent is an innate magic-like ability that’s a limited form of Speak with Animals. It wouldn’t help her, for instance, speak to another person who only speaks a different language.)
Morning comes and the group departs the griffon stables by way of the concealed stairs that lead to the forest floor. Nariya leads the way accompanied by her cooshee companions. The other cooshee’s stay close to their friends as you move along. Onyx takes his usual place on the back on one of Laucian’s cooshee’s. The cooshee’s decide that Robin is all right and do not mind his presence, like they do with Sherwood. One will even allow the brown to ride on his back like it was a mount.
The group makes good progress as they follow along the outskirts of the large clearing with the hidden geysers. They circle the furthest point north and now begin to move on more easterly course towards the Chimera stone. The trip is easy for most everyone involved. The slowest among you turns out to be Sherwood. After a small break for lunch, the group continues on their journey deeper into the elfin forest.
The forest floor is much like what any elf would expect. There’s an abundance of shrubs and plants down here, even though there is very little sunlight. Plants bearing eatable fruits are commonplace.
By late afternoon you reach the general area that Robin spoke of.
“We’re looking for a rock formation here in the forest. The Chimera Stone is inside a small cave in the hillside.”
After about an hour of searching, the small rocky hill is discovered and everyone moves closer. As you approach, you all spot movement near the front of the cave. You catch a glimpse of three heads being pulled back into the cave! Sherwood will swear that it looked like a real chimera!
Now what?
