Eternal Vigilance #62 - "There’s a Stranger in Town”


It is the afternoon of July 4th, 1986. The members of the Vigilant and some local solo heroes have managed to stop much of the activities of the Thugmaster’s Elite. Several members of that band has been captured and turned over to authorities, but others remain at large.


Roll Call: Flux & Frostbite


Dr. Williams has announced that Brother Basilisk ‘stoning’ effect is only temporary. Gloria Starr will revert to human form in the next few hours. There is some concern that Brother Basilisk has other young women that he kidnapped and turned into stone. Flux decides that he needs to speak privately with the green-skinned mutant.

"Why wait for police reports? We should go right to the source: Mr. Basil here. Edgar find me a room big enough for me to enlarge in. Secure it from the outside so no on inside can leave. I'll take the prisoner in with me and have a polite discussion on his recent activities-while in large size. Let's see if he can manage the rock trick on a giant."

“The auditorium is about the largest chamber in the Starr Building, Master Flux,” Edgar reports. “The ceiling is high enough for you to grow to your full size.”

“Flux wait!” Dr. Williams’ cries out as she chases after the hero. “I think I know what you’re going to do, but there is another option without resorting to threats and intimidation.”

After catching up with Flux, Dr. Williams continues. “I’m telepathic remember? I can administer a shot to him that should make him very receptive to my mind probes. I can scan his memories, find out if he has anyone else stoned. Perhaps even learn where the Elite are hiding out.”

Dr. William’s holds her hand out, touching Flux on the arm. “Please, let me try before you do something you might regret.”


While Flux is considering, Edgar chimes in again. “Now this is most interesting. An unknown female has just appeared on the roof of the Starr Building!”

Roll Call: Menagerie & Tilt-A-Whirl


Out in a nearby park, Menagerie was having a family picnic when Dash and Turbo crashed the party. Dash ran off before anyone could do anything, but Menagerie stopped Turbo for a moment. The super-fast youth then vibrated free of Lily’s grasp and then ran off. But the third speedster stopped to listen to Menagerie’s words. Sensing that she is making progress, Menagerie invites Tilt to join her family in the celebration.



Roll Call: Tesla, Blackout, Backlash, Powershift, and Sea Guard


Powershift, Sea Guard, and Backlash have caught up with their teammate Tesla who just took down Powerhouse again. Taking along with the heroes was Blackout, a relatively new hero in town you defeated Wild Wind. PRIMUS arrives and all the villains are taken away.

"So anyone else we need to round up?" Tesla asks her teammates.

“Not just yet,” Powershift answers closing his communicator. “Flux says that they’ve captured Brother Basilisk and they are going to try and get information from him. Perhaps even where the Elite are hold up. Let us return to the Starr Building for the time being.”

Turning to Blackout, Powershift adds, “You can join with us if you wish. I cannot say if this will lead to anything, but we may have the chance of taking down all of the Elite.”


And so the Vigilant are on the move once more. Should Blackout tag along, Powershift will offer to carry him and Sea Guard.

As the group nears the familiar Starr Building, the note a flash of light on the roof! Looking in that direction, you can see that an unusual looking female just appeared out of thin air!

Now what?

Backlash

“Patience Tesla, The day is young he says with a quick smile.

Soon he bounds off with huge leaps as he follows the others. Looking toward the Starr building, a sudden flash of light illuminates the sky drawing his attention. Where the flash originated a women appears out of no where!

“Anyone seeing what I’m seeing?” he asks clearly confused.

[Omni]

XANAPHIA

Blinking her eyes, the girl took a few deep breathes to calm herself. She hadnt anticipated the teleportation taking so much out of her. Bringing herself to her full height of 4'11" she took a look at her surroundings. Remebering what she had discovered about this planet thru the interception of Sattelite signals on KInaly.

"Okay Xana", she said to herself "Remember this planet is no where near advanced as Kinaly, and your gonna get looked at strangely by the humans." Xana caught her reflection in a window, her silver hair may not be considered that odd perhaps but her pointed ears and the silver glints on her skin definetly were not normal from what she knew of Earth. On the bright side she had escaped Kinaly. She hoped she had damaged the Teleportain Chamber severely enough to throw off her destination from her Father and his aides.

Walking to the edge of the building she looked upon the city that she hoped was San Diego. The warm air felt good against her body, she hoped the clothing she had replicated would be appropriate. She carefully looked over the Gold bikini she wore. Feeling the warmth in the air she realised why most reports she saw of California had the people wearing so little clothing. Still it was a bit uncomfortable but she hoped it would help her blend in easier.

[Frostbite]

Frostbite

“There nothing in his data file to indicate this,” Dr. Williams reports. “But I don’t believe anyone has done a study on this particular super. As for your other question, I’ll have to pass that on to Edgar. But if there are any others, they too will revert back to normal over time.”

“Oh.” He states, “Any idea how long it will take to revert back?”

Hearing the soon to be interriogation, Frostbite looks at Flux with mixed feelings. “You better not make eye contact then, besides I would like to see this freak swarm.” To add to the point his right hand begins to freeze over and elongating into a very large pointed spear. “I’ll help make him talk.”

Following Flux he hears the footsteps from behind as Dr. Williams rushes past him.

"Before anyone says another word-let me be clear on one thing!"

"I - DO NOT - THREATEN - BEAT - OR INJURE ANY PRISIONERS AT ANY TIME. That is not an acceptable tactic. I will not condone it by anyone-ever.

"When I say 'polite discussion' that is precisely what I mean!"

Flux turns to face Frostbite directly.

"You, put that spear away-now."

"And you, Dr Williams, I am surprised at you. You should know better. The bigger I am, the more likley I am to be resistent to the effect the prisioner posseses. That, and my size improves the chances of persuading information from the prisioner without violence. If he had managed to transform me he would still be locked in a secure location."

Flux pauses to pull in his temper and takes a calming breath.

"You may try your method first doctor, if it fails we will move on to mine. I won't have any regrets either way."

Was I wrong to trust this guy? He seems very ready put a hurting on Basil here. And the doctor....it's like she doesn't know me at all!

Before even that much is carried out Edgar alerts everyone to a possible intruder on top of the Starr building!

"On it Edgar!"

Flux goes insubstantial and flies out directly through the roof to see who has arrived.

"Alright, sounds like a plan," Tesla agrees.

"Yeah and the night isn't coming fast enough," she says to Backlash with a wink.

Tesla takes to the air, electricity playing around her. As she gets close to the Starr building, a flash of light appears, leaving behind a woman who is clearly not a local.

"I definitely do," Tesla responds. "A teleporter of some sort, although that is a strange costume to be wearing."

Xana caught her reflection in a window, her silver hair may not be considered that odd perhaps but her pointed ears and the silver glints on her skin definetly were not normal from what she knew of Earth.

Tesla gets into position above the new arrival, her force field up. She waits for the others as well as to see what the silver-haired woman plans to do. Tesla won't attack unless the woman does first.

Xanaphia upon reaching the edge of the roof, notices a woman flying towars here amidst a field of electricity. Taking a step back she caugth the movement of someone rising thru the roof. Uh oh she thought this might be bad, Summoning her force field Xana lifted off the roof, drifting back a few feet till both newcomers were in her field of vison. a flash of panic crosses Xana's face, but then passes quickly.

"uhm, uh.....Hello." "My name is Xanaphia " She announced and smiled at them.

She looked from the woman to the man awaiting their reply.

[Blackout]

Turning to Blackout, Powershift adds, “You can join with us if you wish. I cannot say if this will lead to anything, but we may have the chance of taking down all of the Elite.”

"Thank you for the offer," Blackout replies. "Since I find I'm already involved in this, I might as well, if only for the chance to help take down the rest of the Elite."

And so the Vigilant are on the move once more. Should Blackout tag along, Powershift will offer to carry him and Sea Guard.

Blackout isn't entirely sure about the notion of being carried, but if it's faster, he will relent and allow Powershift to carry him.

He notices the sudden appearance of the woman on the roof and that Tesla immediately flies off to see what her intentions are. Blackout has little choice at the moment, being in Powershift's grasp, to do anything on his own.

[Bruce]

Eldrich Arcane

Eldrich has attempted to use meditation to reach the areas of memory blocked off to him without success.
Whatever magic was used against him is proving very effective. Eldrich shifts and sighs, mulling over again the recent events and information he has just been told.

A new world-a non-Fragmented one. No magic to speak of. The few users hunted down and killed or suborned. His own memories blocked. And tomorrow he would be facing foes determined to slay him and his new allies.

Trapped between Demons and the Void as the old saying goes. Odd that I can remember that when so much else is removed. Perhaps...I should attempt to trace what I can recall instead of diving into the blank nothingness?

Eldrich relaxes now, and allows his mind to drift; seeking nothing, letting what may come to his attention and after a time random images begin to coalesce in his mind’s eye. They are disconnected, stray bits of conversations, sights, sounds, places, and people . No particular order or importance to any of them. He neither reaches for, or discards any. Activity on his part might draw the blackness and undo any progress made. After a time, a bit of conversation wafts into clarity. It seems to be in a large seating area, with row upon row of people all facing one way towards a person speaking on the subject of Runes and the many dangers of their use.

". . . Runes of any sort are extremely potent. Only a Rune Master can use them and only under the most stringent safeguards. Misuse or error in Runic magic is irretrievable. What is done cannot be undone as Runic magic is the highest form of the Art.
Runes have been our salvation after the Sundering, without Runic Plaques no life would be possible on the remaining fragments...."

Odd. I could see no faces in that memory. All features were blurred and indistinct. But I do remember something about the runes now. Something more...

"....Runes must be traced not spoken. That is paramount. A spoken rune is an ungoverned rune. The power is scattered and the effect can be greatly reduced if spoken. There is no permanence in a spoken rune. It is there and gone again, wasted. If you wish a temporary effect from a rune then trace it in a temporary manner, such as in dust or powder...."

We progress, yes we do! I remember more now...the Lesser Spells of Utility, yes and the Higher Spells of Mastery!

The Step spell. The Eldritch Bolt. The Sunglare spell. I knew these before. The Counter spell. The Giant's Slap. The Striking Hammers. Yes, and yes! I shall be prepared for the coming foes. Whatever else, I shall be able and ready.

Eldrich continues to explore his magical knowledge whilst in the presence of the magical artifacts....

Flux

Flux passes through the roof of the Starr building looking for the intruder reported by Edgar. She's not hard to spot-and not what he expected to see.

Hrmm, An elf in a bikini with movie-star looks?

Summoning her force field Xana lifted off the roof, drifting back a few feet till both newcomers were in her field of vison. a flash of panic crosses Xana's face, but then passes quickly.

"uhm, uh.....Hello." "My name is Xanaphia " She announced and smiled at them.

She looked from the woman to the man awaiting their reply.

Ok a flying elf in a bikini with movie-star looks...and a force field. I thought we stopped the weirdness event this time?

"Hello Xanaphia. My name is Flux and you are on the roof of the Starr building. You have our attention. Would you like to tell us why an elf is on our roof...in a bikini?"

This ought to be good. I'm seeing elves. The pixes and sprites can't be too far behind.

XANAPHIA

Xanaphia looked at the mad who had spoken to her.

"Hello Xanaphia. My name is Flux and you are on the roof of the Starr building. You have our attention. Would you like to tell us why an elf is on our roof...in a bikini?"

"I am not an elf !" Xanaphia stated pointing at Flux. "What is an elf anyway ?" "And what star does this building belong too ?" "I realised your society was primitave but I did'nt realise you dedicated buildings to celestial objests."

Xana paused and took a breath "As for this bikini as you called it, I thought it was appropriate attire." "If it's not I do apologise and shall remove it." Xana reached back and begun to undo her top.

[Menagerie]

Menagerie:

"ihave... um.. i have family.. yeah.. but theyre too busy to celebrate a holiday," Tilt says, kicking small rocks with her feet, her head lowered. "you would... you would really share with me?"

"Sure," Lily says with a smile. "Come on, I'll introduce you to everyone. By the way, what name do you go by?"

Once Tilt provides a name, Lily will proceed to introduce her to the family. Her boyfriend/partner is Donny Leong, and they have a very young son named Lance. In addition, Lily has a school-age daughter named Rose. Donny's sister Connie is there with her husband Brad and their daughter Sandi. Sandi appears to be between Lance and Rose in age.

They have burgers and BBQ chicken on the grill, though they've had to restart some of the food and recollect much of the food and accessories after the chaos caused by the first speedster. There is also potato salad, chips, fruit and a variety of non-alcoholic beverages. Lily will invite Tilt to help herself to whatever food looks good to her.

“But isn’t intimidation a form of threatening?” he asks rhetorically. To the masked figure. “Besides who said I was going to threaten him… Merely use it to intimidate him.” He said evenly his features as cold as his complexion.

Shrugging to himself as he looks Flux then the Dr in the eye, “Fine have it your way.” Flexing his fist and fingers, several large cracks form in the Ice lance and begin to fall to the floor with a thud. As news from a speaker calls that someone arrived/appeared on the roof of the building.
Not one to be left behind Frosty heads up the flight of stairs to the roof, With a large slam of the door, Frosty sees Flux and a female exchanging conversation, though he is to far from them to here what is said.
Moving from the stairwell, Frostbite can’t help himself, “So these are the perks of Superheroing?” he interrupts as the women begins to remove her top. “Where do I sign up!?”

[Backlash]

Backlash

Seeing the women who appeared Backlash can’t really do anything so he bounds his way closer to the Starr building. “Edgar? What’s going on? There is someone one up on the roof!” Not sure if Backlash can get to the roof so he will merely head into Base,unless other matters of attention are called in.

Fluxes plans to question Brother Basilisk have been sidetracked.

“What I do know, Dr. Williams counters, “is that you are angry right now. Plus you have no idea if being bigger makes you more immune to his stoning effect or not. Being larger does make you more intimidating, but that alone does not guarantee that he’ll talk. What I offer is a safer alternative. After all, the health and welfare of all my patients is my top concern.”

“Oh.” He states, “Any idea how long it will take to revert back?”

“In a few hours, like Ms. Starr.”


The alarm from someone appearing on the roof out of thin air is raised next. Flux phases through the building to reach the roof while Frostbite takes the stairs.

While that is going on, Dr. Williams gets ready to telepathically probe Brother Basilisk.

Roll Call: Flux, Tesla, Blackout, Backlash, Frostbite, Powershift, Sea Guard, and Xanaphia

The rest of the Vigilant are returning to the Starr Building when they spot a woman in a gold bikini with elfin-like features appearing on the rooftop.

(Powershift flies much faster that Blackout can travel with his throwing line.)

“Anyone seeing what I’m seeing?” he asks clearly confused.

Tesla takes to the air, electricity playing around her. As she gets close to the Starr building, a flash of light appears, leaving behind a woman who is clearly not a local.

"I definitely do," Tesla responds. "A teleporter of some sort, although that is a strange costume to be wearing."

“We must determine if she is friend or foe,” Powershift adds, coming in for a landing on the roof of the Starr Building. ‘Shift sets down his passengers before turning back towards the new arrival. By that time Flux is on the scene and speaking to the woman. There is some confusion about her attire and the strange woman reaches to remove her top.

Backlash joins everyone else with one mighty leap.


Roll Call: Menagerie & Tilt-A-Whirl

Out in the park, Menagerie has invited Tilt to join her and her family for their holiday picnic. The others are already picking up from the mess the racing speedsters made in the park. Everyone will be friendly towards Tilt should she accept Menagerie’s invitation.


Roll Call: Eldrich

The presence of the magic items has helped Eldrich focus and some memories begin to surface some spells are recalled. Eldrich will mediate long into the night before retiring.

Now what?

[Backlash]

Backlash

Seeing the others soar through the air, Backlash bends down contracting his leg muscles. “Hope this works.” He says softly as he pushes off with full density. Within a fraction of a second Backlash is flying through the air like a cannonball. As the building draws ever closer Lash mentally curses himself as a fool and turns off his density. ‘Don’t want to give the building any more holes.’

Landing near the building lip, Backlash teeters for a few moments looking down at the tiny people below as people move about their daily lives. “Wooow!!!” as he moves his arms back and forth trying to regain his balance. As he regains it he falls and lands on his back and looks up at the passing clouds as well as his fellow supers. Getting up Backlash dusts himself off as he looks about to the others.

“Whats going on?” he asks simply. “And who is the beach bunny?” as he checks out the new arrival.

XANAPHIA

As Xana began removing her top, she heard another voice,

Moving from the stairwell, Frostbite can’t help himself, “So these are the perks of Superheroing?” he interrupts as the women begins to remove her top. “Where do I sign up!?”

Turning to face the new arrival Xana started to speak, but then noticed anothe person land on the roof carrying 2 others. Then another man landed on the roof, only to fall on his back. Not the most graceful race apparently Xana thought to herself.

"My this roof appears to be a popular spot" She stated. Finishing removing her top she held it in her hand. Turning to Flux, she asked "Is that better ?"

[Bruce]

Flux

She isn't going to...she did! Proof positive we are in southern California. *Sigh* And a very nice attempt at diverting my question.

"It's not better-or worse- it's nothing at all because it does not answer my question, Miss. Why are you on our roof? Where are you from? What do you want here?"

Ten to one I don't get an answer that makes sense. . . it's just being that kind of day.

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Tilt-A-Whirl:

"Sure," Lily says with a smile. "Come on, I'll introduce you to everyone. By the way, what name do you go by?"

Tilt smiles hesitantly. "im tilt-a-whirl," she says.

Once Tilt provides a name, Lily will proceed to introduce her to the family. Her boyfriend/partner is Donny Leong, and they have a very young son named Lance. Everyone has regular names, which doesn't surprise her. She's the only one in costume afterall! She will meet everyone and smile and wave. It takes a little bit before she gets any food though. She still feels out of place. If only her family ever had the time to do something this nice!

Eventually she will take a burger, some chips and some soda. Tilt will sit wherever, not avoiding anyone, but just doesn't know anybody. The other kids seem much younger and Tilt isn't overly keen in joining a grown up conversation.

It's not better-or worse- it's nothing at all because it does not answer my question, Miss. Why are you on our roof? Where are you from? What do you want here?"

"Well if it's nothing why are you staring at me like that ! ", Xana asked slipping her top back on.

"As for why I am on your roof, this is where the teleporter sent me." "I am from the planet Kinaly, too be more specific I am a Princess of Kinaly" Xana replied. "And as for why I am here", Xanaphia looked down:I am here because I do not ever want to see Kinaly or it's people for the rest of eternity"

[Menagerie]

Menagerie:

Tilt smiles hesitantly. "im tilt-a-whirl," she says.

The name provided by the young woman draws a chuckle from Lily. "That's cute. I like it. Ready to meet the rest of the family?"

Lily notes that Tilt is hesitant around the others, even after being introduced, and avoids the food for a while. However, she let's the girl be, knowing that it's bound to be an awkward experience with all of these strangers, especially at her age. In some ways, the teen years are the hardest period of life.

The kids show a decided interest in Tilt and ask her questions about her powers and a variety of other subjects if Tilt appears willing to answer then. Fortunately, Rose and Sandi are both well-behaved enough that if Tilt let's them know that she would rather be left alone, they will comply and take Lance with them. If not, they will try to draw her into playing with them. After a period of adjustment, Lance will simply treat her as any other big person - including climbing in her lap if she's sitting down.

The adults are friendly, but let Tilt come to them when she is ready. If she does, they will attempt to include her in their discussions.

In many ways, this seems like one of those hideously normal families like you see in old TV shows. Clearly, they all care about and respect one another.

[Tesla]

Tesla:

"Um... oh boy," Tesla says as the strange woman completely removes her top. "That's probably not the kind of attention you want to be drawing to yourself," Tesla offers.

"Well if it's nothing why are you staring at me like that ! ", Xana asked slipping her top back on.

Tesla can't believe her ears! Could it be this woman is that naive?

"As for why I am on your roof, this is where the teleporter sent me." "I am from the planet Kinaly, too be more specific I am a Princess of Kinaly" Xana replied. "And as for why I am here", Xanaphia looked down:I am here because I do not ever want to see Kinaly or it's people for the rest of eternity"

Well that explains some of it.. I guess Tesla thinks. "Now that we know you're not from around here, I think you should know that women on our planet typically don't go showing off their bodies unless they have intentions to well, seduce, the males."

"If that's what you're after, then I think you succeeded," Tesla adds as she looks at all her male teammates. They probably won't like me for telling her that, but they can deal she thinks.

Tesla will let Flux take over the conversation, not wanting to step on the big guy's toes or confuse the princess who is really in charge.

[Blackout]

Blackout:

Blackout hangs back after being set down on the roof. Everyone there is part of an established team and he might get in the way. It seems there's only one person that everyone is focused on, so Blackout waits.

As he does, there seems to be some commotion as the mysterious woman first removes her top and then reveals she's from some other planet. This has definitely not been an ordinary Fourth of July!

Backlash

"My this roof appears to be a popular spot" She stated. Finishing removing her top she held it in her hand. Turning to Flux, she asked "Is that better ?"

“Not everyday people appear outta no where.” He says as he catches his balance, and then she removes her top exposing herself. For a moment he looks her over then returns his gaze to her true eyes. ‘Mmmph no tanlines…’ “As much as I hate to say it, Can you please put your top back on.”

Well that explains some of it.. I guess Tesla thinks. "Now that we know you're not from around here, I think you should know that women on our planet typically don't go showing off their bodies unless they have intentions to well, seduce, the males."

"If that's what you're after, then I think you succeeded," Tesla adds as she looks at all her male teammates. They probably won't like me for telling her that, but they can deal she thinks.

“Well none that respect themselves anyway.” He says with a chuckle, “Tesla, I do believe your Jealous.” He says with a smirk as he crosses his arms before his chest. “Personally, I like things left to the imagination.”

Realizing that Flux should handle this more so then anyone Backlash will remain quiet and listen with an open mind. After all stranger things have happened, or at least sometimes he thinks they have..

[Frostbite]

Frostbite

Realizing with the other apparent supers heroes before him that Frosty is a bit out of place, He heads back down to Where Flux and he left the good Doctor. Seeing his way about he just curious to see what the Basil guy says or even if he talks. Frosty will wait patiently and see what happens all the while he will occasionally check on Gloria, about every 5 minutes or so.

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Tilt-A-Whirl:

The name provided by the young woman draws a chuckle from Lily. "That's cute. I like it. Ready to meet the rest of the family?"

Tilt wrinkles her nose trying to figure out if the woman is making fun of her name. Guessing she wasn't, she answers the question simply with "sure."

The kids show a decided interest in Tilt and ask her questions about her powers and a variety of other subjects if Tilt appears willing to answer then. Fortunately, Rose and Sandi are both well-behaved enough that if Tilt let's them know that she would rather be left alone, they will comply and take Lance with them. If not, they will try to draw her into playing with them. After a period of adjustment, Lance will simply treat her as any other big person - including climbing in her lap if she's sitting down.

Tilt is suddenly the center of attention! At first she isn't sure what to do, but then she just starts answering questions about how fast she can run, why she has the funny goggles on, and so on.

Tilt realizes that these kids are rather nice and joins them in playing for a little while. She still feels a bit awkward, having to watch how fast she talks and not take off at super speed, but has some fun despite herself.

The adults are friendly, but let Tilt come to them when she is ready. If she does, they will attempt to include her in their discussions.

In many ways, this seems like one of those hideously normal families like you see in old TV shows. Clearly, they all care about and respect one another.

Tilt still really doesn't want to go join the adults. She will be friendly to them and answer a question or something, but there is no interest in getting involved in conversations about politics, work or any "grown up" stuff.

Tilt can't believe how nice this family is. If only hers was even close!

Roll Call: Flux, Tesla, Blackout, Backlash, Frostbite, Powershift, Sea Guard, and Xanaphia

On the roof of the Starr Building, most of the Vigilant and a few guests have just met Xanaphia, an elfin-like woman wearing a skimpy gold bikini. She introduces herself and claims to be an alien who just teleported to Earth from the planet Kinaly. Most of the heroes defer to Flux to speak to the new arrival.

Powershift looks away embarrassed while the alien woman briefly removes her top. “Flux, what is going on here? Who is this woman and why is she here? And who was that ice covered man who was here a moment ago? Is he friend or foe? Speaking of new heroes this is Blackout. He took care of Wild Wind for us.”

“I’ll see what happened to the iceman,” Sea Guard calls out as he goes inside the Starr Building.


Speaking of Frostbite, the ice-coated teen has made his way back down to the clinic to see how Dr. Williams is progressing. Dr. Williams is in her office, gathering herself for the task at hand.

Moving deeper into the clinic, he locates Gloria who is still stoned. A voice from close by does attract his attention. The voice belongs to Dr. Salier who is tending to Brother Basilisk. Frostbite can hear her speak, but cannot see either her or Brother Basilisk.

“So you like to collect woman,” Dr. Salier casually observes. “That will simply not do.”

Frostbite then can see the effects of a bright flash in the room containing Dr. Salier and Brother Basilisk. Just what is was or what it did is unknown to Frostbite.


Roll Call: Menagerie & Tilt

Out in the park Tilt is enjoying a family picnic with Menagerie’s family and children. The one little girl, Rose, does look familiar to Tilt for some reason.

Flux continues to watch Xan, gauging her reactions but does take note of the comings and goings on the roof.

There goes the kid back down stairs. Hope he keeps off the Doc while she's running the mind scan on Basil. I still trust him and I still don't know why. Have to work that out sometime.

"Still working on that 'Shift. Answers that make sense forthcoming soon, I hope. The kid brought in Gloria, turned to stone by some Thugmaster named Brother Basilisk. We have him in custody downstairs. The Doc says Gloria will recover in a few hours. Hello Blackout. Welcome to our roof party. Thanks for the help with Wild Wind."

And again, familiarity. Blackout where do I know you from? Considering the doctor's reaction to my attempt at questioning Basil I have to wonder if her assessment of my mental state is accurate after all. Hrm, where can I get a second opinion around here on that?

[Menagerie]

Menagerie:

As she and Donny talk with her cousin and his wife, Lily keeps an eye on Tilt and the kids. It is pleasing to see the teenager loosen up a little under the prodding of the little ones. At times, it is hard not to be amazed at childrens' ability to worm their way into even the weariest of hearts.

Eventually, evening draws closer and the sun dips toward the horizon. Lily and the other adults begin gathering up the food and other supplies. While there is a lot of it, including the ever-present toys, the four of them get the work done in less than half an hour.

Finally, Lily approaches Tilt. "I see the children have kept you fairly busy, Tilt-A-Whirl. I hope they weren't too much of a bother.

"We're heading down to the waterfront in a few minutes to watch the fireworks. Would you like to come along?"

"I did not run away to avoid a marriage, I left Kinaly because I did not wish to be part of a society that lives for nothing but conquest. " Secondly I came here because I thought you people were so called heroes, but I see I must be mistaken and IF MY DADDY COMES LOOKING FOR ME IT WOULD"NT BE TO TAKE ME HOME, IT'D BE TO END MY LIFE" Xana appears as if she wants to to slap FLux across the face, but turns and leaps off the building with tears in her eyes, before kicking on her flight.

Speaking of Frostbite, the ice-coated teen has made his way back down to the clinic to see how Dr. Williams is progressing. Dr. Williams is in her office, gathering herself for the task at hand.

Still set within stone Frosty looks her stony fascade over once again. “You’ll be out of there soon enough. I caught the guy who did this and he will pay for what he did.” As he touches her stone hand with his own icy hand.

A soft voice is heard from nearby drawing him from his thoughts. Looking up and about he sees nothing but notes the voice..Dr Sailer? He asks himself as he walks from the room and sees a bright flash which momentarily blinds him. Bringing his hand back from his eyes he finally realizes what the women had said.

Moving toward Dr Williams Office the Ice covered teen barges into her office, Almost panting with excitement. “Brother…. Basilisk….. Flash…. I think Dr. Sailer has done….. something to him!” Not waiting for her reply Frosty will make his way to the room in which the bright flash originated and see what is about.

[Backlash]

Lash chuckles and the shrugs, “I dunno if it’s a good thing, my imagination tends to run away from me.”

Seeing if his companion could use some help Lash follows him down. Letting Tesla work her way with the new comer. After all perhaps all she needs is a female friend to confide in.

Flux

Ahh now we get to the meat of the matter. Starts off saying 'I don't know anything about this place' and ends with 'I thought you people were heros'.

Flux expands to large size, and plants his hand out in front of Xan as she starts to take off like a catcher waiting for the ball to drop.

"Don't be in such a rush princess. No one said you had to leave. Just answer our questions and stop having hysterics."

( Don't know if he can actually catch her this way-leaving it to the judgment of MAD )

“Well, If you wanted her to run away, you accomplished what you were looking for.” Lash says shaking his head, “And I’m starting to wonder why I never see you with any companions….” He trails off as he sees Sea Guard look for the Ice man.

What I wanted is information 'Lash, without the cloudy haze of fake emotional distress. And I got it but no one noticed. 'A people that live only for conquest' and 'This is where the teleporter sent me'. Simple interrogation methods! What is wrong with everyone today?

{Note: For those who don't know, or forgot, Flux is in his 40's is ex army, and never talks about his past relationships with women. The impression you get from him is one of a very bad marraige in the past. Those with the skills for it, might discern an inate distrust of the opposite sex when it comes to emotions.}

Flux is able to grow large enough to put a hand out to block Xana from leaping off the roof. She can go around it and continue on should she choose to do so.

"Don't accuese me of hysterics, you do not know me or the Kinaly people, What I have just told you is the truth!" She galred at Flux. " I don't want to talk to you anymore. " Looking over at Tesla, xana pointed at her, "" I want to talk to her"

Tesla:

Seeing Flux, enlarge and place a hand in front of her, Xana will instead take off straight into the air. Tesla glances at Flux and nods to him that she can handle herself. However Flux seems more on edge and perturbed than she can remember him normally being, so he may not like the idea of just the two of them talking.

Assuming he doesn't do something more drastic, she will look to fly a good distance away, but still be in sight of the rooftop. Tesla will say, "We can talk here," hoping Xana won't push for something more private. She'll wait to see what the wayward princess has to tell her...

Flux

Tesla's giving me the fishy eye. Guess she's forgotten our briefings on 'good cop-bad cop' technique.

Momentarily, Flux frowns, not remembering exactly when he gave that briefing, then nods back to Tesla to go ahead.

*Flux to all base personnel: maintain extra alertness. Possible alien incursion within the next twenty-four to thirty-six hours. Will follow up with detailed info as it becomes available. Flux out.*

"Powershift, remain outside along with Tesla. Backlash, why don't we take Blackout inside for a tour of the place while the ladies have their talk. There are a few matters still up in the air we need to cover."

Flux turns and heads downstairs via the normal route, reducing back to normal size and weight.

So much going on. . . so much yet to happen. . .having a hard time keeping it straight. The doctor better have those answers out of Basil for us or we do it my way, and no static!

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Tilt-A-Whirl:

Finally, Lily approaches Tilt. "I see the children have kept you fairly busy, Tilt-A-Whirl. I hope they weren't too much of a bother.

"what? ohno... no bother," Tilt says smiling despite herself. She has to admit the day turned out to be much more fun than she ever expected.

"Great! You're welcome to ride with us." Lily and Donny begin the task of loading the children into Donny's blue SUV. Lance is strapped into his safety seat in the middle row and Rose slides into the back row and buckles her own belt.

Once everyone is ready and all of their gear is loaded, they start making their way through traffic toward the waterfront. Of course, the annual 4th of July fireworks are a popular event, so the closer they get, the heavier the traffic. Lily and Donny discuss the relative merits of several different vantage points from which to watch.

"You got it." turning to Blackout, "You ready to see the accommidations? Unfortunitely there is no mint on any ones pillow, we are still working on that though."
Backlash will take blackout on a tour of the building/facilities, unless an area is off limits that is.
