It is July 4th, 1986. However, it hasn’t been much of a holiday for the hero team the Vigilant. First they dealt with Malachite’s forces at a warehouse and then later were spread out across the city when the Thugmaster’s Elite arrived in town. But the Elite didn’t prove to be much of a challenge and were beaten fairly easy. Now all that remains is picking up the pieces.
Roll Call: Flux, Tesla, and Frostbite
Having dispatched Powerhouse and Chaos of the Elite, Flux and Tesla have encountered a man covered by ice carrying a statue of another man coated in ice along with the stone statue of a young woman. Flux believes the statue resembles one Gloria Starr, the daughter of the CEO of Vigilant, Inc. Tesla tries to calm things down and the ice-coated man relates his tale. (As seen in the last post.)
Roll Call: Backlash, Powershift, Sea Guard, and Blackout
Another fraction of the Vigilant has dealt with more Elite, but with varying results this time. Aided by a little teamwork with Powershift, Backlash has sent Flex flying over the rooftops.
“Why should you have all the fun,” ‘Shift responds with a slap to Backlash’s shoulder. “Now let’s round up these evil doers.”Backlash wrote:“Thanks for the assist, Shift! But I had him right where I wanted him.” He says with a grin and wink.
The group turns back to the fallen Sparkler. Unexpectedly, there’s a sudden burst of wind and Sparkler is then gone! She seems to have just vanished from the pavement! Rainbow ran off earlier under her own power and Flex was sent flying blocks away.
“That must have been ones of those speedster’s we were looking for,” Sea Guard reasons. “And he just ran off with Sparkler!”
“Then we must give chase,” Powershift directs. ‘Shift picks up Sea Guard once more and flies off in the direction the breeze seemed to be moving in. Backlash follows, covering large chunks of ground with each leap.
Moments later, the trio come across an unexpected sight. There is an area of wide scale property damage. Numerous cars have been thrown about and now lie strewn about the street and sidewalk. An unknown costumed man is moving through the area, carrying an unconscious Wild Wind. The costumed man notes the arrival of the three Vigilant members.
Roll Call: Menagerie and Tilt-A-Whirl
Over in a nearby park, Lily’s family picnic was interrupted by the passage of someone moving at superspeed. A second speedster is noted and Menagerie intercepts him. Just after picking the young boy up, a third speedster arrives in the form of a teenage girl! The two take for a few moments. (In the last post.)
The boy in Menageries grasps begins to come around from his unexpected stop.
“Let go of me!” He yells. As he does so, his body begins to vibrate at superspeed. It’s becoming harder and harder for Menagerie to maintain her grip on the lad!
