New Frontiers #85

The Guardians have engaged the High Priestess of Auril! But she is not human, rather Yusef recognizes her as being a Gelugon, an Ice Devil from the frigid frozen layer of Hell called Caina. Having separated the group, the Ice Devil strikes back by dropping a Wall of Ice on the spellcasters and archers. The main group rushes back and Ivy manages to Dispel the Devils’ innate flight, causing her to fall and transform.

Argent and Lyonessa recover from the shock of the transformation first and strike back. Argent fires another barrage of Magic Missiles, but this time they simply fizzle out when they strike the Ice Devil. Lyonessa’s Spiritual Hammer connects, but it too fizzles out due to the fiend’s magic resistance.

Grondar is the first to actually reach the Ice Devil. As he draws closer he feels an unnatural fear grip his heart, but the dwarven priest fights it off. TruthGiver lashes out once, harming the fiend!

Chareos adds his own Magic Missile to the attack, but it too fizzles out without any affect.

Sir Corley joins Grondar and directly strikes at the Ice Devil. The Young Knight also feels the dread that surrounds this monster, but his Cavalier training helps him ignore the anxiety he feels. Corley connects with his Greatsword, but the attack seems to have no effect on the Ice Devil.

The Ice Devil lashes out with a series of attacks of its own. A claw rips into both Grondar and Sir Corley, damaging them. Sir Corley is bitten by the giant pinchers, while Grondar is struck by the monster’s barbed tail. The tail unleashes a mind numbing cold into Grondar’s body that he only barely fights off. He never felt so cold in all of his life!

Aria joins the fray and her battleaxe drives deep into the fiends’ chest! Mina screams in unearthly pain from the attack. Vile green fluid flows freely from the wound.

Sherra fires a pair of magical arrows at the Ice Devil, but they too ricochet away without causing damage.

Yusef, Farian, and Ivy all arrive to do battle. Yusef and Farian’s weapons simply bounce harmlessly off and Ivy misses with her swing. All three cannot help but feel afraid from being so close to the Devil. But each manages to fight off the desire to run far away and stands their ground.

The Ice Devil takes a step back, one of its arms covering the wound Aria made. Mina then vanishes!

GM Notes:

Gelugon’s require a +2 or better weapons to hit, so that’s why some of the magical weapons still didn’t have any affect.

The cold resistance spells on Aria, Corley, and Grondar are gone as well, from exposure to the Wall of Fire.

Where did Mina go?

Hit Points:

Aria - 82 of 84
Corley - 45 of 65
Grondar - 42 of 60
Sherra - 30 of 41

Yusef:

Attacks are exchanged and both sides take wounds. Unfortunately, even some of the magic weapons fail to harm the creature. It appears that only the most potent weapons will harm this devil! Worse, the gelugon seems to be able to inspire terror just due to proximity. It may be only a matter of time before they each succumb to this mind-numbing fear.

Suddenly, the gelugon disappears, apparently concerned by the wound inflicted by Aria. "One of their innate abilities is illusion! The devil may still be here!"

Clearly, he cannot harm the creature. However, perhaps one of his spells will be of assistance here. Calling upon the power of his patron, Yusef attempts to Summon an Animal Spirit, focussing on a wolf form. When it materializes, Yusef will instruct it to try to find the devil using its heigthened senses and indicate it's location if found.

Grondar:

Charging forward, Grondar races to attack the devil. As he reaches smashing range, a wave of dread washes over him, causing Grondar to hesitate as he begins to shake like a frightened child. Muttering prayers to his patron, Berronar Truesilver, Grondar finds courage in his faith.

Taking a last step forward, Grondrar bashes the gelugon's shoulder with TruthGiver. It appears to be hurt by the holy might of Berronar, but only a little.

Spells and weapons strike Mina repeatedly, but none appear to do any harm. The devil retaliates, Corley caught in a vicious pincher, while Grondar feels the wrath of the creature's spiked tail. Sudden numbing cold afflicts his body and Grondar begins to shake again. It is so very hard to concentrate while shivering!

Finally, Aria plants her big dwarven war axe in the abomination's chest, spilling green blood on the floor. Other attacks prove useless or simply miss, but the devil appears seriously hurt. So much so, that it retreats a step and vanishes.

Grondar turns his head this way and that, sweeping the room for any sign of their opponent. Yusef yells something about it using an illusion, but Grondar has no magic that will reveal the creature. Thus, he stands, looking about for a target, hoping one of the others can find a way to neutralize the magic that hides the gelugon.

Aria's cold protection was from a Resist Cold cast just before this battle. It should not have come down from exposure to the Wall of Fire like the Endure Cold spells.

Chareos

Casting a magic Missile, Chareos watches as several Missiles of Magical energy sped forward only to fizzle as they come near it. Narrowing his eyes Chareos starts trying to think of ways to overcome the apparent magical resistance before them and end this fight.

Watching as the others rush forward and deal with the Ice Devil, Aria lands a vicious blow drawing Green blood from a deep wound. The Insect like creature takes a step back and disappears!!

Suddenly, the gelugon disappears, apparently concerned by the wound inflicted by Aria. "One of their innate abilities is illusion! The devil may still be here!"

“Or Invisible..” Chareos says as he looks about for the Ice devil, but seeing nothing. A sudden realization crashes into Chareos’ mind as his eyes go wide and groans lightly to himself. If this Thing was the mother of the two priestess above then perhaps she would check on them to learn of their fate!

Hoping the Ice Devil is still about within earshot, Chareos says out loud so his voice carries… “It is fortunate we dealt with the two Inbreed heathens above, For they will bother this world no longer.” Looking to the Others , Hoping they catch his meaning that they may face Three Priestess of Cold rather then one alone….

Farian

Watching as his Warhammer swing strikes the Demon but simply bounces off, Farian feels as though he cannot harm such a creature, Looking at his war hammer in disbelief he frowns, as a sudden trickle runs down his spine causing his palms to go clamy from fright. Here before them was a creature so evil it invaded his very soul, causing him to want to run and flee with every urge within his body…

Swallowing hard he tries to put such feelings deep down within after all No dwarf would admit of such a fear!! Growling to himself not to be afraid he winds up for another swing but the Ice Devil simply Disappears….

“No fair!! Come back and fight like a Dwarf! Ya yellow bellied Demon!!!”

Looking to Sir Corley, he hears Yusef and Chareos…

Lyonessa’s Spiritual Hammer connects, but it too fizzles out due to the fiend’s magic resistance.

Lyonessa's heart sinks a bit as her magic simply fades away due to magical resistance. Wondering if another spell is even worth attempting, she watches as the devil wounds Sir Corley and Grondar. Then Aria steps up and deals a viscious blow with her axe and the creature steps back and vanishes!

Warnings by Yusef and Chareos soon follow as Lyonessa checks the wounds of Sir Corley and Grondar. The realization of having to fight three priestesses does not sit well with her.

Looking about for the Creature he picks up on the intent then Looks to Sir Corley….”Let me go for the Alter and the Glossy Winter thingy and let us be gone… Let this wretch come to us and leave this place in ruin…”

"I agree we should hurry," Lyonessa adds. "If the priestess does spend time to free her daughters, it should give us time to destroy the Heart. If she moves to stop us first, then she won't have time to free her daughters."

Sir Corley

Post by Corley »

Sir Corley:

As he advances on the fiend, Sir Corley feels a dread unlike any he ever felt before. Only his training allows the young knight to continue. Much to his dismay, the knights weapon isn’t potent enough to harm this monster! But at least several others are as Grondar and Aria deal damage. Corley has to assume that Lady Ivy’s weapon will harm this monstrosity as it is a holy weapon of her order.

The demon strikes back and Sir Corley is wounded and knocked to the floor. As he starts to pick himself up, the monster seemingly vanishes! Yusef mentions that her vanishing act might just be an illusion, while Lord Chareos mentions invisibility.

“Regardless of the cause, the demoness has vacated the battlefield. But we can rest assured that it’ll only be temporary. But we can take solace in the fact that we wounded her enough to force her to leave! That means we can kill her should she return!"

Lyonessa arrives to check Sir Corley’s wounds, but he does not accept a healing spell at this time. “Save your magicks for now, milady. My enchanted ring will heal me when I do harm to a foe, so I am not without a way to be healed. I do appreciate your concern.”
Farian wrote:Looking about for the Creature he picks up on the intent then Looks to Sir Corley….”Let me go for the Alter and the Glossy Winter thingy and let us be gone… Let this wretch come to us and leave this place in ruin…”
"I agree we should hurry," Lyonessa adds. "If the priestess does spend time to free her daughters, it should give us time to destroy the Heart. If she moves to stop us first, then she won't have time to free her daughters."
“The strategy is a sound one,” Sir Corley agrees. “However we must deal with the chance that if we destroy the Heart of Winter, then the Ice Palace may collapse upon us. I am concerned that Mina has used illusions against us before. It is a real possibility that what we saw above yon altar is also an illusion.”

“Regardless, we must make the attempt. I applaud your valor and courage, Farian, but this mission requires speed. Therefore, the faster among us will go to destroy the Heart of Winter. Grondar and Yusef will go as they are among the fastest here. Lady Ivy as well, since her enchanted ring allows her to move across the ice without fear. Lastly, the Lady Argent will follow utilizing her flight spell. This combination should allow maneuverability and the combat skills should you be forced to engage the enemy once more. Go and the rest of us will try to find a way out of this place.”

Looking about, Sir Corley realizes something that he didn’t notice before. There seems to be only two entrances to this temple and both are by way of stairs! Is this grand temple inaccessible to the ground level?

“There must be other exits from this place,” Sir Corley realizes as he remembers Yusef’s words about illusions. “Perhaps the way out is covered by another illusion. Quickly, let us search this back wall!”

Lyonessa's Spiritual Hammer connects, but it too fizzles out due to the fiend's magic resistance.
The beast ignores her Magic Missiles with seeming ease! At least they affected her the first time around. Just as sudden as the fighting began, the monster vanishes! The possibilities that it’s only an illusion or if its invisible are mentioned.

“That looked like teleportation to me. Perhaps she was hurt enough that she retreated to heal? Admittedly, I don’t use illusionary magic much, but a spell that would both conceal her from our sight and prevent her from being heard would be powerful. If she is wounded then Invisibility wouldn’t help for long because she’d turn visible again as soon as she cast a healing spell. My bet is that she’s gone to recover and will return quickly.”

Sir Corley decides to send some of us to destroy the Heart of Winter before the Ice Devil returns. Argent is sent as long since her flight spell allows her to avoid the unpleasantness on the ground. Argent flies after the others as they move off.

“I’ll keep watch from up here,” the Invoker tells her companions. “If the devil returns, I’ll let you know.”

Ivy:

Fear like she’s never felt before grips Ivy’s heart and causes her swing the Kiss of Azrella wide. Then all at once, that fear is gone as is the demon.

“If only I had connected,” Ivy mutters. “If she was weak enough to flee, that might have been the killing blow. Now we’ll have to fight her yet again.”

Talk turns to the creature still being near by, but concealed by way of magic.

“I don’t feel that fear any more,” Ivy quietly adds. “Perhaps it is no longer here?”

Sir Corley orders Ivy, along with Yusef, Grondar, and Argent to go and destroy the Heart of Winter while the rest of the group searches for a way out of the Ice Palace. Ivy has nothing to add and will run after Yusef and Grondar when they are ready to leave.

Ok, those were on the mark, Sherra thinks disappointedly, I need to find some stronger enchanted arrows, and in a decent quantity.

Not having much else to add to the confrontation, Sherra decides she'll help get anyone clear that becomes injured. Both Grondar and Corley are injured but they both seem okay for the moment.

However, Aria's blow seems to have severely weakened the devil and so she just vanishes. Speculation runs high as to whether she fled or will merely be back in a moment to attack once more.
“There must be other exits from this place,” Sir Corley realizes as he remembers Yusef’s words about illusions. “Perhaps the way out is covered by another illusion. Quickly, let us search this back wall!”
Sherra goes to quickly retrieve her magical arrows if they are not broken. Then she moves along the back wall searching for a secret or concealed door. Hopefully someone will find another way out rather than climb all those stairs once more.

Mina has been driven off, but the Guardians fear that it is only temporary. Yusef summons an Animal Spirit and a ghostly wolf appears next to him. The spirits heightened senses tells Yusef that the devil is no longer present.

Talk of going and smashing the Heart of Winter comes up and Sir Corley agrees. Grondar, Yusef, Ivy, and Argent are chosen for this task s they have demonstrated that they can move faster than the rest of the group.

While those four go to the far side of the chamber, everyone else searches for a concealed or hidden exit since there does not appear to be any from this Ice Temple. Farian and Sherra examine the icy wall with trained eyes. Both quickly realize that this wall is composed of ice, but it’s only a few inches thick! Vague shadows can be seen through the wall.

To prove his point, Farian takes his warhammer and slams it into the wall of ice! A crack quickly forms and others soon follow. Everyone takes a few steps back as the ice begins to break apart and fall to the ground. In short order, the wall collapses!

Behind the wall is a grand sight and you quickly realize that this corner of the Ice Palace was boxed in by a Wall of Ice. In a central area behind the wall is where the main altar to Auril actually sits. Hovering over this is a huge diamond that slowly spins. This can only be the Heart of Winter itself!

Three more large areas are now open to you. The large area you were in originally makes a fourth. The whole thing is like a giant X from above, with the main altar and the Heart of Winter in the middle where each area meets. Even more inviting, huge doors can be seen in the area beyond the altar, where two of the side temples intersect. They appear to be the main entrances themselves!

Argent reaches the far altar fires since she could just fly over the Walls of Fire and didn’t have to worry about her footing. The Invoker reaches the altar and goes to touch the Heart of Winter there. Her hand simply passes through it! It was also an illusion! She calls out this information to the others.

Grondar:

The ice devil, as Yusef named it, appears to have left, so they turn to other priorities. They still have the Heart of Winter to deal with, along with finding a way out of here.

Sir Corley gives out orders, splitting the group in two. Grondar races toward the altar, but Argent beats him there by flying. Reaching out to touch the gem, her hand goes right through it - revealing it as an illusion.

Yusef did say the beast used illusions...

He pauses wondering what to do next, when he hears a cracking sound behind him. Turning, he finds Farian excavating the back wall of the room to reveal a much larger temple than they had expected. What's more, they see a second altar and gem. Could that be the real Heart of Winter? Only one way to find out.

Grondar races off toward the second altar. It is time to find out if the Heart of Winter can stand before the power of Truth!

Farian

“If you be saying so, though your taking all the fun out of it!” he says with a hearty laugh as he moves off with Sherra to search the walls. Under his trained eye, he bring his knuckles up to the wall and knocks on it. A hollow echo resounds in reply. Looking at Sherra he raises a curious eyebrow. “Sneaky they are, but smart they are not…” he says with a quick grin. “Seems we be having ourselves a partial wall.” As he lowers his warhammer to the ground he looks back to Sherra and the others, “Ye maybe wanting to be standing back a bit. Leaning his warhammer against his stubby legs, Farian rubs his hands together as he looks at the wall. Taking up his hammer he brings it to bare against the wall. With a resounding crack his warhammer connects, a knowing smile coming to his grim features as a crack begins to fisher out from where he hit it…

Taking a few steps back he watches as the wall tumbles to the ground, An Alter and a large spinning Diamond comes into view. “Well I’ll be a bearded gnome! Shame we gotta break it…sure would fetch a hefty price.” He guesses from the shear size of the diamond.

Walking slowly into the chamber, he hears Argent’s call! “Over here darlin!” As he moves past the alter to the doors. Upon which he will listen and check the door for a few moments trying to hear what maybe on the othersideas well as if trapped. If it appears safe he will try his hand at moving the door so that it is indeed open.

Sherra spots the thin wall pretty much the same time Farian does. She smiles at his comments. "So how do you suggest..." her question trails off as he watches him pick up his warhammer. "That'll work," Sherra says, taking a step back, then a second.

"No, you're much more rugged than any gnome I've ever known," Sherra says smiling. The size of the diamond is something to gaze upon though. She can only imagine Argent's reaction when she lays her eyes on it.

If we need to move fast, we won't have time to check for traps or any other surprises. Lyonessa sets out to help look for a secret or hidden door with the others. She isn't sure exactly how it would look with everything made of ice. Farian and Sherra find something though, and Lyonessa arrives to Farian bring down a thin wall of ice with his warhammer.

Lyonessa stares at the huge spinning diamond. It's quite captivating but far too big to be carried. She can only wonder if the shards would be worth anything.

The others begin to arrive and she sees Sherra going to examine the doors. Lyonessa will stay near the others and listen to Sir Corley's direction. They probably will have to move fast once the Heart is shattered.

Sir Corley:

The scouts quickly determine that what we thought was the wall of this chamber was just another ice barrier! Farian smashes through it with his warhammer and the true scope of Auril’s temple can be seen!

“Well done!”, Sir Corley calls out upon seeing the true altar and Heart of Winter. Even the young Knight has to gasp upon seeing the giant diamond. Its value has to be beyond his imagining!

“Quickly now! We must keep moving! Lady Sherra, Farian, make sure the way to those double doors is clear. We must know if they are an exit as once the Heart is broken, I don’t believe this structure will remain overhead for long. Lady Lyonessa, keep an eye on those two while they conduct their search. Everyone else, move to the far side of the altar, near the great doors. Stay on guard. Our hosts could return at any time!”

Sir Corley will wait until Yusef, Grondar, Argent and Ivy have returned before following them towards the real altar. Sir Corley guesses that only a powerfully enchanted weapon can smash the Heart, so they need to wait before making the attempt. An exit for the group is also highly desirable.

Grondar races back and seems to want to be the one to break the huge gem. Sir Corley has no issue with that and will move closer to the exit as the dwarf prepares to make his attempt.

Argent:

Flying over the slippery ice and multiple Walls of Fire, Argent reaches the far altar first. The Invoker is nearly entranced by the size of the diamond and visions of what she could do with that much wealth flashes through her head. But all such thoughts come to an end when her hand just passes through it!

“It’s as we feared! It’s just an illusion! Go back!”

A great crash attracts Argent’s attention and she sees the far wall break and fall. Must have been ice, she guesses.
Farian wrote:Walking slowly into the chamber, he hears Argent's call! "Over here darlin!"
“What did that little runt say?” Argent wonders aloud, not quite believing what she heard.

Flying back as fast as she can, Argent soon reaches the true altar and the real diamond.

“It’s fabulous! A pity that it must be broken to break the Cold One’s hold on these lands. Just catch the shards! Those alone could be worth a fortune! Here, I’ve got a Bag of Holding. Let them fall into it!”

Seeing Grondar approach the altar, Argent will fly closer with her bag ready to catch the pieces.

“What is that!? Is it undead?”

Ivy will calm down after Yusef explains what it really is.

The dash to the far altar comes next. Ivy has no trouble keeping her footing as her Ring of Water Walking keeps her just above the ice. Once the deception there is revealed, Ivy will come running back with the others.

It seems that the real exit has been discovered along with the true Heart of Winter.

“It is beautiful”, Ivy whispers upon seeing it. “Great good could be done with such wealth.”

Ivy will move to the far side of the altar towards the exit. She’ll linger near the rear should we need to quickly vacate this area as her movement is unhindered. Her mace is kept in hand just in case the masters of the Ice Palace return.

Argent soon calls out that the diamond is a fake, within moments Farian and Sherra find a wall of ice.

Farian soon shatters the wall, in which catches Chareos’ eye. For floating, spinning within the sky is a huge diamond that Chareos has ever laid eyes on. Orders are soon Issued to move past the alter toward the double doors.

Chareos does just that and remains on guard his quarterstaff in hand, his back turned to his comrades.

The real altar to Auril has been found along with the real Heart of Winter, the artifact that created the Ice Palace and the army of Ice Warriors. The area is currently empty, but everyone knows that Mina could return at anytime. Farina and Sherra advance on the great double doors behind the altar in search of an exit from the Ice Palace. No traps are found along the way and Lyonessa trails behind keeping watch on the scouts while they work.

The double doors are safely reached and it takes all of Farian and Sherra’s combined strength to force one open. A snowstorm rages outside the door and the cold breeze blows in mercilessly. This is the way out, but the walls of the Ice Palace rise up on either side forming a long channel you have to follow to reach safety.

While the Guardians move into the main altar area, the other dispatched to the illusion come rushing back. Argent and Grondar are the first to return.

As you near the main altar, you can see that it is in the shape of a snowflake. There’s a main central area with seven equally spaced projects shoot off of. The Heart of Winter hovers over the center of the altar.

Numerous objects are noted lying on the altar in the projects from the center. A soft ice blue aura covers these objects, as if being in contact with the altar is somehow giving them power or enhancements. A quick look shows that there are dozens of arrows, a longbow, and a shortbow. There are nine swords lying there. Six are longswords, with a single scimitar, shortsword, and two-handed sword present. There are also twelve daggers and six battleaxes.

Grondar rushes towards the altar, intent upon shattering the Heart of Winter. But before he can get three, the Ice Devil reappears out of nowhere! And she’s not alone. On either side of her are Anja and Nina!

“You lied to me!” Anja calls out angrily. “You’re not followers of the Ice Maiden at all!”

The half-demoness brandishes an Ice Axe, as does her sister.

And now the final battle! There’s a new combat map in the private area. There’s also now a listing of High Level NWP’s available to Fighters once they hit 10th level. HLNWP'S for the other classes will follow. There is a second article on Weapon Proficiencies that lists the costs and bonuses from being Nonproficient to being a Grand Master.

Hit Points:

Aria - 82 of 84
Corley - 45 of 65
Grondar - 42 of 60
Sherra - 30 of 41

A New Path

Yusef:

Chareos attempts to taunt the gelugon, but there is no indication that it is still hear to hear the warrior-mage's words. Yusef summons a Spirit Wolf and the creature quickly confirms that the ice devil is gone.
Ivy wrote:“What is that!? Is it undead?”
"No, lady Ivy. It is the living embodiment of the spirit of the wolf. A spell allows me to summon it or the spirits of other animals." The Azrealean priestess seems satisfied with the answer, and does not attack his summoned companion.

They move for the altar and the gem floating above. However, it proves to be an illusion as Argent puts her hand through it. Meanwhile, Farian has discovered that the back wall of the room isn't a real wall at all! Within moments, his warhammer brings the thin wall of ice crashing down to reveal a larger temple beyond. Within, they can see a larger altar with the real Heart of Winter floating above.

As the gelugon could return at any time, they hurry forward to check the new altar. A pair of large doors are visible on the far side of the temple. Farian and Sherra go to examine the doors, as they need a quick way out of this place. Grondar bolts past headed toward the Heart of Winter, intending to shatter it with his enchanted mace, if he can, and Yusef falls in behind. As he goes forward, he sends the spirit wolf to explore the branches of the X on either side. Meanwhile, Argent moves forward, hoping to catch the shards of the giant diamond once Grondar has done his work.

The true altar is magnificent in it's own frigid way. Beautifully carved in the shape of a snowflake, it captures the beauty of a snowy landscape. Drawing closer, it becomes apparent that a number of weapons are lying on the altar. Though he cannot tell for certain from this distance, they seem almost to glow with a frozen radiance.

Suddenly, Mina returns, appearing atop the altar. In addition, she has brought her daughters to help her defend it.
Anja wrote:“You lied to me!” Anja calls out angrily. “You’re not followers of the Ice Maiden at all!”
"We could have easily slain you, Anja, but we did not," Yusef replies as he runs toward the youngster. "And I would rather not have to hurt you now; don't make it necessary."

Knowing that there is little he can do to harm Mina, Yusef loops to the left to approach Anja from the front. If she won't retreat or surrender, he will attempt to disarm her.

I just discovered that my post for Yusef on the 19th appears to have gotten lost! I was wondering why no one had responded to his question...

Grondar:

Sherra, Farian and Lyonessa proceed across the huge temple to check the doors on the far side. Grondar can hear good-natured bantering between Sherra and Farian, which brings a smile to hif craggy face.

With the threat of Mina's return, Sir Corley urges everyone to be quick in their work. For his part, Grondar zips toward the real altar, determined to smash the Heart of Winter into so many pretty shards. Not surprisingly, Argent's concern is for the diamond and the wealth it may bring. Even the valiant Ivy seems entranced by it's beauty and incredible value.

Before he can reach the altar, the ice devil reappears, with Anja and her sister in tow. They appear determined to defend the Heart of Winter at all costs. He can also see numerous weapons lying on the altar, many of which appear to be absorbing mystic essence from the altar. No doubt they will be powerful enchanted weapons.

At the moment, there are more important issues at hand: namely, defeating the gelugon and her spawn. Moving quickly across the ice, Grondar loops to the right, hoping to come at the ice devil between a couple spurs of the snowflake altar well out of reach of the daughters. He had some success against this creature before, so he must take that responsibility again.

"Hey Aria! It seems Mina here didn't learn her lesson last time! I believe she needs more instruction. Care to assist?" Aria's axe had hurt the creature badly before, so she's best suited to continuing the battle. No doubt Ivy will want to assist as well. Between the three of them, they should be able to banish it back wherever it came from.

Lyonessa:

Following after Sherra and Farian, Lyonessa is relieved to see those doors are indeed the way out. The going looks trecherous, but this whole excursion has been that way.

Before Grondar can deliver a blow to the Heart, Mina returns with her daughters, and they don't look happy!

"We could have easily slain you, Anja, but we did not," Yusef replies as he runs toward the youngster. "And I would rather not have to hurt you now; don't make it necessary."

Lyonessa steps up, recalling the questioning, "We didn't really lie to you Anja. In fact if you search your memories, you'll find that nothing I said was false. We said we wanted to see more of this grand temple and couldn't understand why more followers weren't here. If we were indeed enemies, then why didn't we slay you?" She adds, playing on what Yusef just said.

While true Lyonessa didn't exactly deny being a follower she didn't come out and blatantly say she was, as she was being purposefully vague and careful not to anger her own goddess but lull Anja into enough sense of security to give them the information they sought.

Lyonessa will then cast her Hypnotism spell and say, "You don't want to hurt us just like we don't want to hurt you. Why don't you just lower your axe?"

This is the way out, but the walls of the Ice Palace rise up on either side forming a long channel you have to follow to reach safety.
Leaning against the door after the exhausting struggle just to open it, Sherra looks out into the raging snowstorm. "Well that certainly looks inviting," she'll say to Farian.
“You lied to me!” Anja calls out angrily. “You’re not followers of the Ice Maiden at all!”
"Oh now who untied her?" Sherra asks no one in particular as she turns and sees mother and daughters re-united.

She knows her arrows are useless against Mina, but maybe not against her daughters. Sherra will load a magical shaft into her bow and be ready to fire at Nina should Lyonessa's ploy not work.

Sir Corley

Sir Corley:

The endgame seems at hand. A way out has been discovered, but the defenders of the Ice Palace have arrived. The Ice Devil has returned with her half-human children. Yusef and Lady Lyonessa speak with Anja, the one we learned much information from earlier in hopes of getting her to realize that she’s on the wrong side.

Knowing from past experience that his sword cannot harm the Ice Devil and seeing Yusef close in on Anja, Sir Corley will move towards Nina and will attempt to disarm instead of just cutting the maiden down out of hand.

Argent:

Just as the Invoker is getting her Bag of Holding ready to hold the smashed portions of the Heart of Winter, the High Priestess returns with her kids.

“One more time then!”

Argent will keep her distance and remain airborne. Figuring that the cold monster doesn’t like fire much, Argent will cast Agannazars Scorcher at the Ice Devil.

“I see,” Ivy answers. While she doesn’t have access to such magic, that does not mean others do not. As long as its not an undead spirit, then it is no issue.

Ivy trails behind the other as we rush back to the main group and the real altar. The girl Lyonessa spoke to earlier is near and she seems upset. Both Yusef and Lyonessa speak to her. Ivy has much more that she’d like to say, but her words and mood are contrary to what they are trying to accomplish, so the Priestess will say nothing for now.

Instead, she’ll follow Grondar towards the one unquestionable evil here, the Ice Devil. This time Ivy will connect with the Kiss of Azrella!

Aria

Post by Aria Stonehand »

Aria:

Aria has been quiet since the devil left. People rushing around trying to break things, walls made of ice come crumbling down, and the real altar and some cold looking weapons have been found. But at least the devil has returned, all ready for another go around!
Grondar wrote:"Hey Aria!
“Just try’n hold me back!” Aria vows as she grips her axe. “Time to whittle this ice fiend down to size!”

Aria will come in from the other side from Grondar and Ivy and attack with her axe.

Chareos
As the Ice Devil and her heathen children come a calling Chareos gathers up his perfered weapon. Gripping his Quarterstaff within his hands he moves forward with the others, Many of his spells float through his head as he consider each one.... Flaming sphere... to close, Magic missile may not work, Shocking web, out... Grumbling to himself as he recalls his spell selection, something he will definitley have to alter in time. then an Idea comes to him as a smirk comes into play....

Stopping far enough away from the priestesses Chareos will cast his Fire shield spell for protection and if applicable move in toward Mina, hoping to distract her from the others to give them time to warm her cold heart.

Farian

As the three priestess arrive and say words of disdain, Farian begins to move closer, Grumbling and cursing all the way. As he draws closer Farian's words become apparent, "Must have some Elfin Treehugger blood in them! Told ya we should of killed them and be done with it!"

Readying his warhammer and shield Farian will move closer to one of the lesser priestess and begin to pound em with his warhammer.

"When Ya want something done right, send a dwarf!" he adds gruffly as he draws closer.
