Eternal Vigilance #59 - "Just Another Day in San Diego"

Roll Call: Flux, Backlash, Menagerie, and Powershift

The heroes are relaxing in the Jade Exports Unlimited warehouse having defeated Malachite's latest plot, whatever that was. While Tesla and Sea Guard explore the sub-marine, the Jade Prince, the rest of the team talks amongst themselves. Several of the group seems a bit disorientated and it concerns Powershift. It is decided to stop at the clinic that Dr. Williams runs for a check up afterwards.

The subject of conversation turns to what Powershift was sensing via his mystical Jewel of Krin. He feels that some sort of mystical event is going to transpire and soon, but he cannot say where or when just yet.

"I believe I know what you're referring to, Powershift. My memories are kind of hazy, but I believe a woman known as Demonspawn or Devilspawn intends to perform some kind of mystic ritual tomorrow morning in Horton Plaza. If she succeeds, I suspect the results will be bad for a lot of people."

Menagerie's answer catches Powershift by surprise. "How can you possible know this? It does make sense that Devilspawn would be somehow involved in this. We've certainly battled her and the other Coven members enough in the past. Too many times if you ask me. I'll try to contact a mystic that I trust to see if I can get confirmation on this."

As each of you know, Powershift's Jewel has been the target for many a mystic who wished to take it to increase their own powers. Just recently, about a month and a half ago, a woman called Lady Darkness tried to take the Jewel by force before being driven off by the Vigilant.

Talk continues while the group awaits Tesla and Sea Guard's return.

Roll Call: Tesla and Sea Guard

Down in the submarine, the pair of made a gruesome discovery. Some sort of water being was being dissected!

Somewhat disappointed at no further resistance, Tesla helps round up the crewmen. They go down deeper into the sub only to find something truly horrible. "What..." Tesla tries to ask without gagging, "..is that?"

Tesla doesn't recall ever having seen anything like it, but with the webbing it might be aquatic, and Sea Guard may know something more.

"It's known as a Aquan" Sea Guard answers evenly. "They are vicious opponents who attack any they encounter on the open seas."

"After a moment's thought, Sea Guard will add, "Why don't you set up a link between Edgar and the sub's computer, Tesla? Let's see what these guys were up to and I'll give you the full story on the Aquans."

While Tesla sets up the link so Edgar can access the Jade Prince's computer, Sea Guard tells the tale of the Aquans. The story goes that the Aquans were aliens who crashed here on Earth. There ship hopelessly beyond repair, the resigned themselves to make the best of their new situation. Being water creatures they had little contact with surface dwellers. They built themselves a home in the deep trenches of the Pacific Ocean and were content. That ended when a hunting party returned after a multi-week hunt to find that their home had been destroyed in an atomic bomb test. Not only were they stranded here, but now all of their females were now dead. The Aquans would eventually die out as they could no longer breed. Something snapped in the remaining males and they, essentially, declared war on the surface world. They've been attacking targets all over the Pacific Rim for years now. No one has yet to get them to listen to reason or try to assist them.

Roll Call: Flux, Backlash, Menagerie, Powershift, Sea Guard, and Tesla

PRIMUS finally arrives and takes all the prisoners into custody. The Silver Avenger and Major Star are leading the men. They take control, thank the heroes, and the Vigilant depart. That taken care of, the team makes their way to the Starr Building in Downtown San Diego. Dr. Williams's clinic was set up there after the Vigilant rescued her from a strange alternate future almost a year ago. While practicing general medicine, Dr. Williams also specializes in meta-human medicine has well and has picked up techniques from the future that do not yet exist on Earth.

All the members of the Vigilant know that not only does Dr. Mary-Beth Williams practice meta-human medicine she is one herself. Her powers are minor by comparison. She can split into two people, one called Mary, and the other Beth. She also has some psionic abilities such as Telepathy, Telekinesis, and Ego Attack. Dr. Williams is of average height with brown hair and eyes. She wears glasses.

Assisting Dr. Williams is another woman Dr. Alexis Salier. Alexis is an unusually tall woman (5'11") with red hair and green eyes. She's something of an expert on mutations, so her abilities mesh well with Dr. Williams. While the examinations are going on, Edgar brings reports what he found in the Jade Prince's computers. (Edgar was acquired on the same adventure where you brought Dr. Williams to the future from the Q-Link Lost Heroes game. He's linked to both the Vigilant base and the downtown clinic.)

"It's really quite interesting," Edgar explains. "It seems that Malachite has been looking into the phenomena where a strange white radiation has been the catalyst for mutations."

"Such as Dreadnought from the Avengers," Dr. Salier adds.

"That is correct, Dr. Salier", Edgar reports. "Malachite's scientist determined that this radiation leaks into our reality in places where the dimensional boundaries are weak. That was the saucer's purpose. He had four genetic samples that he was going to expose to this white radiation. The laser mounted on the top of the saucer was going to punch a hole in our dimension to let this white radiation come in. They were scheduled to do this tomorrow afternoon near Horton's Plaza."

"Edgar, any idea where these genetic samples came from?" The query came from Dr. Williams.

"It seems that the samples were taken from Tigress and Tempest of the Young Champions, along with the villains Panda, Raccoon, and Howler. Although Malachite was only using the female samples in his experiment."

The medical examinations are complete and everyone is in good health. No problems detected.

"You guys can visit anytime you like," Dr. Williams teases with a smile. "You don't have to make up phantom illnesses."

Roll Call: Tilt-A-Whirl

Elsewhere in San Diego, Tilt has caught up to Turbo. Introductions follow.

"prettyfast?? fasterthanyou!" Tilt says, but she's laughing too now. That was a lot of fun! "imTilt-a-Whirl. iveneverseenyouaroundbefore. thereisallkindsoffuntobehadaroundhere! firealarmsarejustthebeginning!"

“Well,Iwenteasyonyou!” Turbo taunts back. “MyfriendsandIjustarrivedintownandwe’reseeingifthereisanyoneherewhomightliketojoinus.”

Turbo listens to Tilt’s ideas for fun with a mischievous grin.

"wecouldalwaysgodowntothepierandswitchoutpeople'sfishingpoles," Tilt offers, "orswitchpeople'sfoodordersatallthetablesatoneofthoseoutdoorresturants. orgraballtheobjectsinmidairfromthosestreetjugglers!"

“Yeah,thatcouldbefunallright! Butyoueverdoanythingmorethanthat? Likegrabstufffromstoresandrunoffbeforeanyoneeverseesyou? Withourkindaspeedwecandoanythingwewant!”

Roll Call: Eldrich

In the lair of the Magus, the newly awakened Eldrich adapts to his new surroundings. He’s still dressed in his sanitarium gown.

"What you say sounds impossible to me. How can this world exist without the use of magic? Who would condone the loss? And I do not know this god called technology."

“You are in a different dimension from the one you came from,” the Magus explains. “The potency of magic varies from dimension to dimension. It appears that you hailed from one that was very potent, so potent that no other power topped it. In this world, science and technology are used to do work in place of magic. It also fits my theory that you were exiled to this comparatively weak magical dimension from one that was very powerful.”

"...the Authorities?? Those who enforce the Laws? This Fragment cannot hope to impose its views upon all the others. The loss of Magic is the loss of all life. How do they expect to maintain the Plaques without magic?"

"I will help you as best I can. We must summon aid from. . . . "

Eldrich grinds his teeth in frustration as the memory he is searching for eludes him, dancing just out of reach.

"Well you know of them even if I cannot speak of them. I presume it will be difficult to leave this Fragment else no doubt it would have been done before things reached such a sorry state."

“I do not understand what you mean by ‘Fragment’. Life in this dimension does not depend upon magical energy. Here magic is not needed for life or for anything else. It is only a rare and exceptional talent being that can call upon its forces. I have no idea what you mean by Plaques. These Fragments and Plaques are clearly unique to your home dimension. I have no encountered such things in my travels.”

“There are numerous authorities here that we have to be careful with. There are numerous other costumed individuals with code names who either fight to protect the status quo against those who would rebel against. They sometimes even band together and form groups to perpetuate their agenda. Not even others who practice our arts gain agree upon just how to make things better for us.”

“But come, there is time for talk of that later. Let’s get you into some proper clothing and get some food into you.”

The Magus will first escort you to a chamber filled with numerous, magic inspired garments. There should be something suitable there for Eldrich to wear.

Along the way to get food, you encounter a woman in white. She’s quiet lovely with shoulder length blond hair and all dressed in white. She wears a white corset and a knee length cloak, with long gloves and boots with bikini bottoms. The Magus gallantly kisses the back of the woman’s hand.

“Ah, friend Eldrich, allow me to present my wife. She’s goes by the nom de plume the White Witch. She has magical talent like we do along with some other unique abilities. Honey, Eldrich here would be happy to assist us in our quest.”

The White Witch seems a bit timid but will bow in greeting. “I am happy to have you with us,” she’ll say. “Perhaps we all can regain what we’ve lost.”

And did the Magus recover his magic items from the wall safe?

Uhm, no wall safe was ever mentioned. The magic in the walls was the mystic shielded mentioned in the last update.

Roll Call: Blackout

High over the streets of Downtown San Diego, Blackout has witnessed the passing of two speedersters in the streets below. They leave chaos in their wake. People having been knocked over from their passing. Minor fender-benders are common. One older man was knocked over and appears to have broken an ankle.

While Blackout helps out down below as best he can, he becomes aware that the wind is becoming stronger all of the sudden. His enhanced senses make out a figure surrounded by swirling winds. Essentially a small tornado! The figure inside the rapidly moving tornado is female in shape.

People close to this woman are moving away in a panic. The woman seems to be ignoring them as she moves along down the street. Blackout is close enough to hear her speak.

“Ooohhh weeee!”, the woman calls out with a noticeable Texas twang. “There’s some mighty fine stuff to grab along here! Looks like Wild Wind is gonna do some shopping!”

GM Notes:

I've added another sticky thread to this forum that will cover the past exploits of the Vigilant. The first page has a timeline and adventure recaps will be added later on. The first recap I plan to do is the adventure mentioned above where you meet Dr. Williams and gained Edgar. Let me know if you want character related entries added to the timeline, such as when your character joined the time and so on.

Those familiar with the Young Champions stories on the main site have read about the exploits of the Jade Prince leading up to its appearance here. Everything mentioned here first occurred there.

Menagerie:

Menagerie's answer catches Powershift by surprise. "How can you possible know this? It does make sense that Devilspawn would be somehow involved in this. Menagerie shrugs helplessly. "I'm not really sure. If I had to explain it, I would say that it seemed for a while there that we were intersecting with another reality and I shared the life of another me. I can feel some of her memories in my head, though they are fading quickly."

She looks at Flux and Backlash. "Did either of you sense anything similar?"

Once the villains have been carted away by PRIMUS, they go to visit Drs. Williams and Salier. Lily will chat comfortably with Mary and Alexis as they examine her, having known them for some time now.

A discussion springs up around Malachite's plans and the genetic samples. Lily doesn't really have anything to add, but she listens carefully. Fortunately, Dr. Williams declares them fit and healthy.

"If you don't need me any more today, I really should get back to my family..." Lily says to Flux.

Looks like it's time to come up with their new backgrounds and fit the characters into the new Vigilant timeline. Personally, I'm tempted to link Lily's gaining of powers to the battle between Cyberwoman and Devilspawn.

I've added a synopsis for the Aventure where the group first encoutnered Dr. Williams and gained Edgar.

(It's based on a scenario that I ran back in the Live Young Champions game on Q-link, so I didn't just come up with it off the top of my head!)

Flux

"Put me in that category too, Powershift. I know there's going to be an attack on civilians in Horton Plaza tomorrow. They want to use people to sacrifice for a summoning up of a 'nether lord'. And yes, I have memories of this already happening -fuzzy-dislocated memories- but I'm sure it will happen tomorrow if we don't stop it."

"I can't explain it. Maybe Dr. Williams can."

Returning to the Starr building Flux sits in on the debrief of Malachites plan and finds more memories surfacing.

"White radiation...white radiation. That rings another bell, team. I'm remembering very odd things just now. None of them pleasant."

Flux has a sudden vivid memory of captives in a circle of force being terrified into submission by a thin man while he himself is unable to get through it and - most surprisingly- Lily's face inside that circle!

Yeah. Keeping that one to myself.

The medical exam is through and no problems are detected in anyone. Which does not help explain the memory conflicts at all.

"Thanks doc. I'll be back to chat sometime soon. Might need a psych evaluation too."

"If you don't need me any more today, I really should get back to my family..." Lily says to Flux.

"The schedule looks clear until tomorrow. Go ahead."

Eldrich Arcane

“I do not understand what you mean by ‘Fragment’. Life in this dimension does not depend upon magical energy. Here magic is not needed for life or for anything else. It is only a rare and exceptional talent being that can call upon its forces. I have no idea what you mean by Plaques. These Fragments and Plaques are clearly unique to your home dimension. I have not encountered such things in my travels.”

Clearly the Magus has misunderstood what Eldrich means by needing magic to sustain life. Drawing water to a Fragment for the farms and homes requires magic. Tilling the soil, crafting tools, building homes, all require magic. If what he says about magic being both weaker and rarely used is accurate then this must truly be Elsewhere. Perhaps the world here never Fragmented into pieces? Eldrich chooses to let it pass. It would be too difficult to explain.

Eldrich looks over the clothing-most exotic looking to his eyes- and recalls the simple method of changing his attire in the instant. He does so, forming a soft light blue over-tunic with open sleeves and comfortable , warm trousers of dark green hue and lastly, stout walking boots.

Yes, that serves for now. But something is missing..I cannot think what just now.

As bowing seems the correct form of greeting Eldrich returns the bow albeit with a flourish of his arm not known here.

Eldrich unconsciously fingers the area around his neck, troubled by something lacking there...

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Tilt-A-Whirl:

“Well,Iwenteasyonyou!” Turbo taunts back. “MyfriendsandIjustarrivedintownandwe’reseeingifthereisanyoneherewhomightliketojoinus.”

Tilt scoffs at this, but keeps smiling. went easy on me! he is just embarassed. no way he's faster! she thinks.

"howmanyfirendsarewithyou?" Tilt asks, wondering if they're all speedsters like him.

“Yeah,thatcouldbefunallright! Butyoueverdoanythingmorethanthat? Likegrabstufffromstoresandrunoffbeforeanyoneeverseesyou? Withourkindaspeedwecandoanythingwewant!”

Tilt wonders just what the boy is getting at. Sure she could rush in grab some candy or a glamor magazine without being seen, but that's a little more than what she likes to do.

"ohyeahallthetime!" Tilt says, lying, not wanting to be shown up. Still, she doesn't want to really get involved in things like that. "isthatwhatyouandyourfriendsaredownherefor?" she probes a little further, trying to guess his intentions.

The Vigilant are relaxing at Dr. Williams Clinic. They were just examined by the doctors and found to be in good health. Dr. Salier examined the women, while Dr. Williams the men. Dr. Williams split into Mary and Beth to make the process go faster.

(Dr. Salier has a bit of an unusual quirk to her. It seems that she prefers female patients to male ones. Thus Dr. Williams examines all the men. Dr. Williams suspects that some traumatic past event has soured Alexis against men. She’s simply nicer to women than to men.)

During the conversation about the upcoming mystical event, Menagerie mentions that it’s most likely Devilspawn trying to summon a Nether Lord in Horton’s Plaza. This startles Powershift, but it seems that both Flux and Backlash have similar memories.

Menagerie shrugs helplessly. "I'm not really sure. If I had to explain it, I would say that it seemed for a while there that we were intersecting with another reality and I shared the life of another me. I can feel some of her memories in my head, though they are fading quickly."

“It seems to me that if we’re dealing with alternate realties and possible futures, that you’ve been involved with another mission with our mysterious friend Tesseract,” Dr. Williams theorizes. “Perhaps this mystical event leads to something bad that she wants to prevent? That could explain why you know about it before it happens. Unless you’ve all gained the ability to see the future.”

“And if that’s the case, then give me tomorrow’s lottery numbers!”, Dr. Salier adds with a smirk.

“Then it seems that we need to be on hand tomorrow at Horton’s Plaza”, Powershift concludes. “Perhaps this is Tesseract’s way of alerting us to this crisis.”

"Thanks doc. I'll be back to chat sometime soon. Might need a psych evaluation too."

“Any time, Flux,” Dr. Williams answers. “It might be interesting to get inside your head.”


The conversation winds down and Menagerie departs for home. It is the Fourth of the July after all, and she has family functions to attend. Sea Guard plans to return to the Vigilant Base as he lives there full time. Powershift will just go his own way as he normally does.

Edgar contacts Flux with reports of several supers being sighted in the Downtown region. A pair of speedsters were seemingly racing through the streets, leaving chaos in their wake. No real crimes committed there just yet, but there is potential.

Secondly, a woman that Edgar has identified as the villainess Wild Wind is robbing stores downtown. According to information supplied by the Superior Six, Wild Wind was a former member of the group called the Rat Pack and is now a student in the Thugmaster’s Elite.

The Thugmaster’s Elite is a wandering organization that recruits young supers and teaches them how to use their powers to their fullest extent. The concept is much like the Young Champions, but instead of training heroes, the Elite trains villains! The Elite was in Los Angeles about two months back, and sighted in El Paso last month. Their membership changes, but the core staffers seem to remain the same. These include the Dark Knight, Dash, and Lightwave.

Furthermore, both Dash and Turbo, formerly of the Young Champions, are known speedsters among the Elite, so they could be the racers mentioned earlier.

Going to investigate any of these?

Eldrich:

In the lair of the Magus, Eldrich has changed clothes and eaten. He’s met the Magus’ lovely wife, who goes by the name of the White Witch.

"I shall be happy to return any favors possible to those who have shown me such kindnesses. As I am unable to remember my own name you may call me Eldrich, as your husband has named me such."

“We are glad to have you with us, Eldrich,” the White Witch answers sincerely grasping his hands. “Too many of our old friends are no longer with us. It seems that our numbers dwindle each day.”

“But there may be something we can do about it,” the Magus adds.

After a pause to gather his thoughts, the Magus speaks. “My wife and I were forced to flee our former holdings several months ago. We came to this area with the hope of entering into an alliance with another couple that was liked minded. But the enemy had gotten to them first and had used their technology to turn them against our kind. Instead of helping those who wield magic, they fought against them.”

“But all is not lost. Tomorrow there will be a convergence of magical energy bursting into this world. Our plan is to be there when it does. For a short time, we’ll be able to tap into that energy and all of our powers will be greatly enhanced. Perhaps you’ll be able to overcome whatever it is that blocks your memory, friend Eldrich.”

“We plan to use the energy of this convergence to undo what was done to the others I spoke of. They’ll be turned back to our side, thus gaining us even more allies in the struggle. It was for this purpose that we located you. We do not have the strength to carry off this mission alone.”

“Will you help us?” The White Witch asks hopefully.

Tilt-A-Whirl:

In the Downtown area, Tilt has met Turbo, a superfast boy.

"howmanyfirendsarewithyou?" Tilt asks, wondering if they're all speedsters like him.

“Oh,abouttenorso. We’realwayslookingformoreteammates!”

"ohyeahallthetime!" Tilt says, lying, not wanting to be shown up. Still, she doesn't want to really get involved in things like that. "isthatwhatyouandyourfriendsaredownherefor?" she probes a little further, trying to guess his intentions.

“Inaway”, Turbo answers excitedly. “TheEliteteachesushowtouseourpowerstothefullest! W’reintownlookingfornewmembers. Ithoughtyou’dmightbeinterestedsinceyou’reprettyfast! Comeon,it’llbemorefunthanjustpullingharmlesspranks! You’vegottalent! Don’tbeafraidtouseit!”

GM Notes:

I’ll let Lily handle her arrival back home. I keep forgetting to note that there is no Steel Squadron in San Diego, but there is such a team in Las Vegas. Without getting into much detail, the set up for the Steel Squadron requires a place that doesn’t have another hero team. San Diego now does, so they were formed elsewhere.

Blackout and Frostbite are where they were last left at.

"Will that be cash or charge?" Blackout asks as he swoops in on his swing line. Landing out of reach of the tornado-effect, Blackout waits to see if this Wild Wind will be causing trouble. He's figuring the answer is yes, but he'll show restraint for a moment.

If she does attack, Blackout will go full defense first to determine what he'll be facing and then throw his rod to see if he can slow the Texas woman down a bit.

[Tesla]

Tesla:

"Already on it," Tesla says as she starts setting up the link. She listens to Sea Guard explain the crisis these Aquan's face. It's not a pleasant fate to be sure, but trying to help them seems equally improbable.

Eventually PRIMUS shows up and they all depart from the Starr building. Edgar gained some interesting data, and better yet, there isn't seemingly anything wrong with any of them.

Flux

"Yeah Tesla. We'll handle it. Let's take Wild Wind first. That should draw out any protectors she might have in the background out into the open. If it's speedsters I'll throw some weight around and slow them down."

Flux drops to small size and weight to fly alongside Tesla as they head to the suspect area.

"Edgar, keep your ears on. If we need backup I don't want to holler twice."

about ten teammates, wow that's alot! Tilt thinks to herself. That would be more fun than running around solo all the time. Still, they seem to be serious troublemakers...

"theElite? thatsoundslikeacoolname!" Tilt replies. She can see herself being elite, yet the boy keeps pressing her to do more dangerous stuff. She doesn't like being told what to do, especially by a boy! Tilt gets enough of that from school teachers, when she bothers to go...

"sowhenwouldibeabletouseallthistalentofmine?" Tilt asks with a brave smile. She isn't comfortable with the idea, but without anyone else around to influence her, this might be her best bet....

Taking his paper plate, which held a bare corn cob upon it, Cyrus made his way to the garbage throwing out his garbage, Turning to Gloria he wondered, “Can I get you anything While I’m up?” he asked as he headed into the Kitchen for a cold Dr. Pepper.

Popping the tab, he took a cold swig of it as it traveled down his innards causing a cold sensation in his body. Seeing the paper laying about the table he picked it up spotting the movie section he thought why not.

Walking back outside, Cyrus asked Gloria, “Would you care to go see a Movie?”

Getting examined by Dr. Williams proves mostly what Backlash already kinda figured that he was alright, just having ‘nightmares‘ of some sort.

“And if that’s the case, then give me tomorrow’s lottery numbers!”, Dr. Salier adds with a smirk.

Backlash smirks back moving his eyes to help recall, “5,12,19,33,36,42.” calling off his favorite numbers, “If you win, just remember us.” he said with an added smirk.

“Is there any chance Edgar has the read outs for this Devilspawn, and possible who she likes working with? If this is going to happen we may as well be as prepared as possible.”

As Tesla and Flux begin to issue there concerns with this Wild Wind, Backlash doesn’t like the sound of two speedsters running around left unchecked. “Flux, if you don’t mind I’ll go check on the speedster disturbance. Maybe only a matter of time before they get someone hurt.”

The heroes are wrapping up their visit to Dr. William’s clinic. They’ve been found to be in good health, but news of villain activity in the downtown district forces them to investigate.

“Is there any chance Edgar has the read outs for this Devilspawn, and possible who she likes working with? If this is going to happen we may as well be as prepared as possible.”

Backlash’s question again surprises Powershift. “The Vigilant has battled Devilspawn and her Coven many times in the past. She’s an evil sorceress with demonic ties. Her nephew Malastra and her half-brother Firefall are mainstays in the Coven. When we last battled in Iridium Vale, new recruits to the Coven were Supersonic, Sabredance and Oblivia. The Coven is probably our arch enemies.”

(This version of Devilspawn is not quite the same as the one you encountered in the alternate timeline.)

It’s decided that Flux and Tesla go investigate the sighting of Wild Wind.

As Tesla and Flux begin to issue their concerns with this Wild Wind, Backlash doesn’t like the sound of two speedsters running around left unchecked. “Flux, if you don’t mind I’ll go check on the speedster disturbance. Maybe only a matter of time before they get someone hurt.”

“I’ll accompany you,” Powershift speaks up. “It can be difficult to battle such fast moving foes alone.”

Sea Guard also agrees to go along with Powershift carrying him.

You business at the clinic complete, the Vigilant head off to locate Wild Wind and the speedsters.

Roll call: Blackout

In the streets of Downtown San Diego, Blackout has met the villainess known as Wild Wind.

"Will that be cash or charge?" Blackout asks as he swoops in on his swing line. Landing out of reach of the tornado-effect, Blackout waits to see if this Wild Wind will be causing trouble. He's figuring the answer is yes, but he'll show restraint for a moment.

“It’ll be all I can carry!” Wild Wind fires back with a Texas accent. “Oooh wee! Looks like I not only get to do some shoppin’, but make some points by takin’ down a do-gooder!”

Wild Wind gestures and a blast of concentrated wind is fired at Blackout. The masked man easily avoids the attack as he was prepared for such a thing. Blackout tumbles away and comes up throwing his rod. The rod hits Wild Wind square in the face, forcing her backwards!

“Mah face! You hurt mah beautiful face,” Wild Wind rages. She gestures once more and winds begin to whip around a nearby parked car. With ease Wild Wind lift it into the air and throws it at Blackout!

Roll Call: Flux & Tesla

En route towards Wild Wind’s last known location, Tesla and Flux notice a disturbance down in the streets below. There’s a loud crash followed by people screaming!

Going down to investigate, you discover a giant sized man in wrestling tights has just thrown a truck through the front window of a bank! The man is over twelve feet tall!

Beside the giant is a midget dressed in a bizarre white, purple and yellow costume with diamond patterns covering it. As you watch, the midget unexpectedly grows to man-sized!

Roll Call: Backlash, Powershift, & Sea Guard

As the trio fly to find the mysterious speedsters, an alarm can be heard from down in the streets below! The action seems to be taking place at a jewelry store! The front windows have been broken in and a trio of costumed individuals are helping themselves. Two of the robbers are young woman.

The first woman is easily the best looking of the two. She has blonde hair that falls past her shoulders and blue eyes. Her costume is mainly a skimpy one-piece multi-colored affair that is black in the middle with rainbow strips above and below. There are large bracers on her forearms and she wears black slippers.

The other woman is a plain looking Hispanic wearing a red costume with a yellow burst pattern on the just. Yellowish fireworks explode about the woman uncontrollably.

Last, but not least is the lone male. He’s a buff looking guy wearing what looks like a surfer-style bodysuit which is blue with red and yellow trim and patterns with a neon orange FLEX written over the left breast. His hair is long and brown.

“It seems that we’ve uncovered another set of criminals to deal with,” Powershift observes. “Shall we gentlemen?”

Roll Call: Eldrich

Somewhere in the San Diego area, Eldrich is in the company of the Magus and the White Witch.

“It can be done,” the Magus states. “Our dwelling here is shielding from outside detections of magic. Perhaps if the White Witch and I combine our efforts, we might be able to break through the barrier that imprisons your memories?”

The White Witch gives the Magus a hesitant glance before looking back to Eldrich. “I have some mental talents apart from my magical gifts. But alas they do not include reading the thoughts of another. If only I could, then perhaps I could access those memories currently being blocked to you. Rest assured that I would never invade your mind without permission.”

“Would being near magical artifacts help you?” The Magus wonders. “There are some in our possession, including those that were in the possession of the couple we spoke of earlier.”

Roll Call: Tilt-A-Whirl

The talk between Tilt and Turbo continues…

"sowhenwouldibeabletouseallthistalentofmine?" Tilt asks with a brave smile. She isn't comfortable with the idea, but without anyone else around to influence her, this might be her best bet....

“Well,justaboutrightaway’, Turbo answers. “Herecomesoneoftheinstructorsnow! You’lllikehim. Hehaspowerslikeus!”

Turbo points off into the distance and an man in an orange and green costume comes running up at superspeed! A green mask covers his face, but you can see that his hair is short and brown in color.

“Nicejob,Turbo!” The new arrival compliments. Turbo beams in pride from the praise. “Youfoundthelocalspeedster!”

“I’mtheDash,” the costumed man says to Tilt. “Youlookingtohavesomefunwithyoursuperspeed?”

Roll Call: Cyrus & Gloria

Elsewhere in the Downtown Area, Cyrus McGregor and Gloria Starr are walking towards the movie theater. Gloria drove back to the Starr Building from Cyrus’ parents house and they’ll walk the short distance from there.

As the young couple moves down the street, they become aware of a hunchbacked man wearing a trench coat observing them. He seems rather creepy as he seemingly shambled forward more than walked! As they move to go around, the man opens up the trench coat to reveal a man with green and scaly skin!

“Pretty!”, the bizarre man yelps as he takes in Gloria. His eyes are overly sized with strange concentric circles I them. “So pretty!”

Beams of light suddenly leap from the strangers’ eyes and they hit Gloria. Before Cyrus’ startled eyes, Gloria turns to stone!

“Nicejob,Turbo!” The new arrival compliments. Turbo beams in pride from the praise. “Youfoundthelocalspeedster!”

“I’mtheDash,” the costumed man says to Tilt. “Youlookingtohavesomefunwithyoursuperspeed?”

"you... youwerelookingforme?" Tilt asks, slightly stunned, slightly awed that someone would be interested in seeking her out. Maybe they aren't so bad. After all they were looking for her! That's smart thinking to want the fastest speedster on their team!

"ialwayshavefunwithmysuperspeed!" Tilt replies to the Dash. what a funny name calling himself "the" Dash she thinks. "turbothinksicanhavemorefunwithyouguysthough!" she says, getting excited and forgetting that she was worried about Turbo's intentions just moments before.

[Menagerie]

Menagerie:

Flux admits to having similar memories to her own, which seems to lend credence to her theory of intersecting realities.

“It seems to me that if we’re dealing with alternate realties and possible futures, that you’ve been involved with another mission with our mysterious friend Tesseract,” Dr. Williams theorizes. “Perhaps this mystical event leads to something bad that she wants to prevent? That could explain why you know about it before it happens. Unless you’ve all gained the ability to see the future.”

"Tesseract did mention meeting me again, or having met me before - it's kind of confusing, really..."

“Then it seems that we need to be on hand tomorrow at Horton’s Plaza”, Powershift concludes. “Perhaps this is Tesseract’s way of alerting us to this crisis.”

"Whether Tesseract's involved or not, I believe we need to stop whatever Devilspawn and the Coven are up to. We know from experience that anything they do is likely to be bad for the rest of the city."

"The schedule looks clear until tomorrow. Go ahead."

"Thanks, boss! See you tomorrow morning," she says with a smile. If she's needed sooner, he knows he can contact her via the Vigilant communicators.

Fetching her car from the parking garage, Lily heads up MLK Jr Freeway toward Chollas Park to meet her family. The weather is so nice, she pushes the button to retract the roof. San Diego is the perfect city for a convertible! As the wind whips through her hair, she hums along with the radio.

Arriving at the park, it takes a little while to find the right picnic table where Donny and the kids are. His sister and her family have driven down from San Bernardino to celebrate with them. Sidling up next to her boyfriend as he works the grill, she gives Donny a quick kiss. "Sorry I got held up, sweetheart. Some of the case files are a mess. The burgers smell great!" Fortunately, Donny is the one person outside The Vigilant who knows of her dual life, so he's gotten good at covering for her.

"Hi, Connie. Hi, Brad. Nice you could come down to visit. We don't get to see you nearly often enough." She glances over and sees Lance and Rose playing on the playground with their cousin Sandy. "Looks like the kids are having a good time. I better go say 'hi'."

Disentangling herself, Lily wanders over to the playground at the edge of the picnic area. Rose sees her immediately and comes running over, followed by Sandy and Lance. Lily gives them all hugs. "Are you all having a good time? Looks like lunch is almost ready." Snatching a tissue from her purse, Lily wipes the assorted bodily fluids from her son's face. "You ready to eat, Sweety?" Lance replies enthusiastically in the affirmative, so she picks him up and starts back toward their table.

This can continue on however long is appropriate. I'll stop here to allow for any interruptions that might occur. If everything is normal, just assume they all have a good time and head home as evening comes on. My main goal here was to set the stage for her new lifestyle in this reality.

[Blackout]

Blackout:

"Here, in that case, let me help you with your carry out," Blackout retorts, dodging a blast of wind and hurling his rod with uncanny accuracy. It strikes home square in the face and Wild Wind stumbles backwards.

“Mah face! You hurt mah beautiful face,” Wild Wind rages. She gestures once more and winds begin to whip around a nearby parked car. With ease Wild Wind lift it into the air and throws it at Blackout!

"Don't worry, the bruises are complementary," Blackout replies. "It'll act as a good foundation when you visit the makeup counter for your free samples."

However, Blackout's wit and sarcasm aren't going to help him with the fact that a parked car is being hurled at him! Still, he can't help himself, "You're a terrible valet, I wouldn't be caught dead in that car!"

Hopefully he's right as he plans to dodge out of the way, otherwise Blackout will find himself hurt, unconscious or worse if that car connects. He plans to either dive under it if the car is high enough, or bound over the roof if isn't too far above the ground.

If he survives, his rod should be rebounding to his hand as well, so he'll catch that and pop one end off, letting loose the coiled wire inside. Blackout will then re-throw the rod to bounce around her, hopefully entangling her and holding her fast.

[Tesla]

Tesla:

En route towards Wild Wind’s last known location, Tesla and Flux notice a disturbance down in the streets below. There’s a loud crash followed by people screaming!

"I didn't know the circus was in town," Tesla says to Flux as she changes course and drops in lower, observing the strange pair. She'll bring her force field up while they observe the midget change size.

"I'll take the big guy if you can handle the shifter," Tesla offers, and unless there are any objections, Tesla will open up with an electrical blast to see if she can get the giant's attention.
