New Frontiers #83

The struggle against Kalandor continues. Yusef has already tackled the evil Ice Sorceress while Argent has hit her with a barrage of Magic Missiles. Between the two of them, the icy shell that protected Kalandor is gone. She is no longer protected from damage.

Yusef quickly follows up scoring more hits using his hands and feet. Argent casts a second barrage of missiles and all of these hurts Kalandor.

Kalandor retaliates using her Staff of Winter. A stream of icicles is launched from the staff catching Yusef squarely in the chest, forcing him back a few steps. Kalandor scrambles to her feet and holds her staff before her defiantly.

A bit further back, the ice warriors that Kalandor formed, five of them in all, move to the attack. Two head back towards Yusef, but only one of them is close enough to the Monk of Celestian to attack. Yusef easily avoids the ice constructs assault.

The other three ice warriors continue their advance towards the landing. Aria is there to greet them. Her battle-axe is swung in a frenzied arc, slicing her foe into two. The other two try to hit Aria with their ice axes, but miss the battle maiden.

Ivy reaches the landing and moves in front of Argent, but behind Aria. Moving a few steps forward, Ivy is able to swing over Aria and strike one of the ice warriors. The impact shatters the icy construct, dropping it to the floor.

One floor up, it’s been determined that the quarters of the High Priestess are deserted. Sir Corley orders the group to move down to the next floor to back up the others. The stairs continue to be icy and there are many slips among the group, but everyone is able to catch themselves before falling. Those who can handle the stairs the easiest are near the third floor landing and can see Argent. (That would include Sherra, Chareos, and Grondar.)

Yusef:

Stepping back, Yusef unleashes on the frigid priestess, followed immediately by more Magic Missiles from Argent. It is clear they are taking their toll, but they haven't incapacitated her yet. In proof of this, Kalandor waves her magic staff, causing icicles to leap from it and bury themselves in his chest. Yusef staggers back from the impact, even as Kalandor rises to her feet.

The pain tears at the walls Yusef has meticulously constructed around that part of himself that he dare not allow to surface. He can feel it wriggling and squirming within, trying to burst free from its imprisonment.

Ignoring the injuries as best he can, Yusef steps forward once again and launches another combination of blows at Kalandor. It is critical in his mind that they take her out quickly.

Grondar:

Hearing the combat below, they continue down the stairs. Grondar is surprised to find himself suddenly near the front of the group, having been at the back for so long.

There is a sound in the air that is familiar, reminding the dwarven priest of the icy constructs they had fought so recently at the fort. It appears that more of those things have been encountered.

Grondar continues to make his way down the stairs, attempting to be both quick and careful. His crossbow in hand, he watches for any sign of the foe, intent on firing as soon as he gets a good shot. Once the bolt is spent, he'll drop the weapon and draw TruthGiver.

Calming herself, she continues down, watching as Sherra, Chareos and Grondar move ahead of the rest. at least they'll be able to help Lyonessa thinks, i hope the others can hold on until we get there.

Sherra:

This level appears vacant and Farian confirms it. Sounds of fighting come up from below and Sherra guesses that Aria and her rescuers have found trouble. Sir Corley instructs us to continue down and those who can descend a little faster are told to go first. Sherra finds herself with Grondar and Chareos.

As Sherra nears the landing, she can see Argent, her attention focused on something further down the hall. It appears she is casting a spell. Sherra will concentrate and shift her armor to match the walls of the ice palace. Hopefully this will help hide her as she reaches the landing. She slips some throwing knives into her hand and is ready to hurl them at the first target that presents itself.

Still a bit dizzy from her trip, Aria swings her axe at the walking ice cubes. One gets sliced in half and the other two try to attack. From out of nowhere, a mace sails in from above and behind Aria! Daring a glance back it turns out to be the human priestess Ivy.

“Great hoppin’ horny toads! Don’t startle me like that! I might have just swung on ya without lookin’!”

Turning back, Aria can see that only one more ice cube is before us. Without looking back, Aria says to Ivy, “I’ll take this walking hunk of cold! You go on ahead!”

Farian will make his way back down the hallway towards the others, Seeing Sir Corley begin to watch their backs as well as the on going battle below Farian calls out to him. “Get a move on I’ll get the rear, they may need you!” as he realizes Corley can get to the others far more easily then he can.
Sir Corley will regard the dwarf for a moment. He won’t waste words here about being cautious or keeping alert. Farian knows what he is doing. Instead Sir Corley will lightly grasp the dwarf on the shoulder before heading down the stairs.

“We’ll meet up down below,” Sir Corley will say.

The young noble will keep the rest of the Guardians before him as he carefully goes down the stairs.

Coming down the stairs carefully isn’t enough as many times he slips but catches himself successfully. He Sherra and Grondar, slowly make their way down the stair. Reaching the Third landing Chareos can just make out Argent on the floor below, but how were the others fairing, as the sounds of battle become apparent….

Chareos will carefully but as quickly as he may, make his way down the stairs, Upon seeing the battle he will see where best he can attack and do so with a Magic Missile.… He will target the Ice Priestess first if still alive/conscious, if not He’ll spread his Magic missiles to hit the Ice creatures 2 each.

Post Continued:

The Guardians have encountered the dangerous Kalandor on the third level of the main tower in the Ice Palace. Yusef rushes the ice sorceress once more, but this time she activates yet another power of her Staff of Winter. A blast of artic cold issues forth hitting Yusef. He can feel the bitter cold trying to seep into his body!

The blast continues back past Yusef and washes over Ivy, Aria, and Argent. Only Ivy and Argent take damage from the spell, but both Ivy and Aria have lost their resistance to cold. The comfort they had been feeling is now gone and bone-chilling cold begins to seep in! Argent’s attempt to cast Magic Missile is ruined by Kalandor’s Cone of Cold.

Yusef reaches Kalandor and strikes her two more times. The monk can sense that she is starting to be ground down under the onslaught.

Behind Yusef, Aria takes out the ice warrior before her, while Ivy slips past. The Priestess of Azrella easily reaches the last two ice warriors. The first one shatters upon being hit by Ivy’s mace, the second remains standing.

But only for a moment. Grondar slips into the hallway and fires his crossbow at the last ice warrior. The bolt strikes the icy construct and it shatters.

Chareos and Sherra also enter the hallway, slipping in past Argent. Both spot Kalandor and launch their attacks at nearly the same time. Chareos sends a volley of four Magic Missiles at the target, while Sherra hurtles a dagger. The Magic Missiles stagger Kalandor, but it’s Sherra’s dagger that settles the issue. It lodges deep into the Ice Sorceress’ throat! She gags twice before falling to the floor. Blood seeps rapidly from the wound.

No more threats are apparent. All the Guardians can safely reach the third floor of the tower.

Yusef:

As the battle continues, Yusef hears ice shattering behind him on multiple occasions. From the sound, it would appear that his companions are having success against the frozen warriors that Kalandor summoned a few moments ago.

Moving to attack, Yusef finds himself taking the brunt of an icy blast from Kalandor's staff. Fortunately, his demonic heritage makes him resistant to such extremes of temperature. Not allowing the assault to slow him, he moves forward and strikes, his foot catching her in the knee and then in the shoulder as it flickers almost too fast for the eye to follow. He can tell that she cannot take to much more of this punishment.

More attacks come from behind him to strike the priestess. Yusef sees another volley of Magic Missiles tear into her, causing Kalandor to stagger once again. Then, just an instant later, a dagger lodges in her throat and she collapses.

Looking over his shoulder, Yusef notes Sherra's empty hand and smiles. "Nice throw."

Reaching down, Yusef lifts the limp form of the priestess over his shoulder and snatches up the enchanted staff in his other hand. Turning, he trudges back to his companions. He can see Lord Corley just coming down the stairs. "What should I do with this trash?"

It doesn't occur to Yusef to loot the body for booty.

After a precarious and agonizing descent, Grondar finally comes in sight of the battle. The first thing to greet his eyes is Ivy destroying a warrior of ice. However, a second appears to be menacing the Azrella's priestess. Reacting quickly, Grondar fires at the frigid man-shape, which is scattered into shards by his quarrel.

Moments later, Kalandor crumples to the floor, Sherra's dagger in her throat. Yusef praises her skill, and Grondar can only nod in agreement.

Grondar looks at Yusef. "Looks like you could use a bit of healing before we continue on..."

The dagger slides into Sherra's hand easily as she enters the hallway. Seeing the priestess and having a good opening, Sherra lets her dagger fly just as Charoes sends magic missles seeking their target. Her aim is true as almost immediately after the missles hit, Sherra's dagger scores a fatal blow.
Looking over his shoulder, Yusef notes Sherra's empty hand and smiles. "Nice throw."

Moments later, Kalandor crumples to the floor, Sherra's dagger in her throat. Yusef praises her skill, and Grondar can only nod in agreement.
Sherra smiles back warmly at Yusef but doesn't say anything in reply. She also notices Grondar's nod and feels pride at her friend's acknowledgement of her skill.

Looking around there doesn't appear to be any more enemies, but Sherra keeps a pair of throwing knives ready just in case. When she gets the chance, she will retrieve her dagger, but it can wait to make sure we aren't attacked once more.

“Blast it!”, Argent complains when her spell is ruined. But at least she’s had the chance to see what a Cone of Cold looks like in action. It was the new spell that came to her back at the fortress, but Argent hasn’t had the opportunity to try it out just yet.
Chareos and Sherra also enter the hallway, slipping in past Argent. Both spot Kalandor and launch their attacks at nearly the same time. Argent’s hand can’t help but go to her throat as she see’s Kalandor go down. Gruesome!

“I’m happy I’m on your side,” Argent tells Sherra.

Doubting that we’ll be here very long, Argent will go up to Kalandor and begin to relieve her of items that may be magical. They’ll be chucked into her Bag of Holding for now. Grab any jewels as well.

Before Ivy can advance past the ice warrior, the Ice Priestess unleashes a blast of extreme cold from her staff. Ivy can’t help but be numbed from the attack and it seems that her magical protection is now gone. Undaunted, Ivy advances forward and nearly takes out the next two ice warriors. Grondar finishes the jump with his crossbow.

Juts as quickly as the battle started, its over as Sherra’s well-aimed dagger downs the ice witch.

“My protection from the cold is gone”, Ivy will tell Sir Corley when he arrives. “I not sure how much longer I can endure this horrible cold without protection.”

“I wouldn’t dream of it, my friend,” Sir Corley says as he departs. “You are more than capable of taking care of yourself.”

By the time Sir Corley reaches the next level, the fighting has already ended.
Reaching down, Yusef lifts the limp form of the priestess over his shoulder and snatches up the enchanted staff in his other hand. Turning, he trudges back to his companions. He can see Lord Corley just coming down the stairs. "What should I do with this trash?"
“Leave her,” Sir Corley simply answers. “It can only be a matter of time before our presence here is discovered. It’s my opinion that we need to move on and reach the ground floor. That’s where the Heart of Winter is and perhaps we’ll find the High Priestess herself there. I don’t want to be caught unaware on these stairs. We’re at too much of a disadvantage there to engage in a battle.”
“Do we have time to look for her spell books?”
Sir Corley doesn’t say anything as the Lady Argent searches for the magic items and other treasures that she so prizes. But before he can answer Lady Ivy approaches.
“My protection from the cold is gone”, Ivy will tell Sir Corley when he arrives. “I not sure how much longer I can endure this horrible cold without protection.”
“That settles it then. We need to finish up fighting as soon as possible before we all are left unprotected. Does anyone have any cold resistance spells left?”

Turning back to Lady Argent, Sir Corley adds, “Not at the present time, milady. Perhaps after we’ve finished defeating the Cold One’s followers you can return and search for other treasures.”

Instead of the usual order, Sir Corley will have those who seem to be able to navigate these hazardous stairs go first. Yusef will lead the way with Lady Ivy, Lady Sherra, Grondar, and Chareos near the front. Farian can take the rear guard once more. Everyone else in between.

Lyonessa:

By the time Lyonessa reaches the next level, the battle is over. Argent is already looting the body of the priestess and Sherra is pulling her dagger free from the throat! The battle looks like it was quick and brutal.

A worried look crosses Lyonessa's face at hearing Ivy is no longer protected from this biting cold. She offers up a poor suggestion, "I only have a pair of Resist Cold spells, but their duration is measured in minutes rather than hours. I felt they might be useful if we fought a dire creature of the snow and ice, but you are welcome to their protection Ivy."

Lyonessa waits to see if Sir Corley and Ivy want her to cast the spell now. Maybe with some luck, the two spells will last long enough, the second cast when the first expires, for us to finish our task here.

As he comes into view it looks as though the fighting is over for the time being. But knowing the chances of them being heard are fairly high Farian keeps his guard up as he takes up the rear position of the Column. Though he sees Sherra retrieve the dagger from the lifeless priestess’ body.

Making a mmph sound under his breath, Farian proclaims, “Must be having some dwarf in her after all!”

As the Guardians make their way Farian will take up the rear being mindful of his surroundings as he watches the rear flank.

Kalandor has been defeated! While deciding on your next course of action, Argent strips the dead Ice Sorceress of her possessions. Items put into the Bag of Holding include, the Staff of Winter, several rings, a pair of silvery blue bracers, and a necklace.

Sir Corley decides to keep moving. It is also revealed that Ivy, Aria, and Yusef have all lost their magical protections against cold. Yusef is the least affected as he has some natural cold resistance due to his mixed heritage.

Slowly the group travels down the stairs once more. This time, they reach the ground floor without incident. You’re now on the ground floor of the vast ice palace. Here the ceiling climbs to almost fifty feet in height. Looking to your right you see a very large chamber that can only be the main temple dedicated to Auril. On the far side you can see another Aurilite standing before an altar. A huge diamond floats over the altar. Between you and her is a small army of ice warriors!

GM Notes:

Short post as I wanted to give you guys time to prepare for this battle. Do any healing, preparatory spell casting and combat strategies now, as you won’t get the chance to do so later. The altar is about 200 feet away from your present location. The number of ice warriors is too many to count. The temple is some sixty feet wide, so there is plenty of room to maneuver.

Argent - 44 of 51
Ivy - 52 of 64
Yusef - 46 of 62

Grondar wrote:Grondar looks at Yusef. "Looks like you could use a bit of healing before we continue on..."
"Not much more than a scratch, really," Yusef replies, which isn't strictly true. "It should probably be bandaged up, but I think we should save our magic for the trials to follow." If Grondar doesn't do so, Yusef'll attempt to bandage himself.
Corley wrote:“Leave her,” Sir Corley simply answers. “It can only be a matter of time before our presence here is discovered. It’s my opinion that we need to move on and reach the ground floor. With a nod, Yusef simply drops the dead priestess onto the cold ice at his feet. Argent swiftly swoops in to loot the body, which Yusef watches expressionlessly.
Ivy wrote:“My protection from the cold is gone”, Ivy will tell Sir Corley when he arrives. “I not sure how much longer I can endure this horrible cold without protection.”

"I have one as well, if that will be of help to you or anyone else." Yusef offers. He might use it on himself if things get bad enough, but others may well have a greater need.
Farian wrote:“Must be having some dwarf in her after all!”
With only the fiercest exertion of willpower, Yusef succeeds in suppressing any laughter or lurid comments regarding interpretations of Farian's comment. Still, one eyebrow climbs high up his forehead as though trying to merge with his hairline as he regards the dwarf.

At Lord Corley's instruction, Yusef takes point to lead the way down the stairs. It isn't far to the next level, which should be the bottom from what they were told. Raising a hand to indicate that those behind should stop, Yusef glances about. Off to the right he can see into what appears to be the main temple. Inside, he spots a white gem floating over an alter with what must be the girls' mother standing before it. The temple appears to be nearly overflowing with more of the icy soldiers like they have fought several times now.

Yusef steps back out of sight and fills the others in on what he saw. "With so many of those ice men, perhaps we should scout for another way in..." he suggests to Lord Corley.

Grondar:

Though she says nothing, Grondar sees the pride in Sherra's eyes and is pleased.
Yusef wrote:"Not much more than a scratch, really," Yusef replies, which isn't strictly true. "It should probably be bandaged up, but I think we should save our magic for the trials to follow." If Grondar doesn't do so, Yusef'll attempt to bandage himself.
Uncharacteristically, Grondar scowls for a moment, then turns to Ivy. "It appears that there are several wounded in our party. Perhaps now would be a good time to channel the power of the gods through your enchanted mace. I would be willing to donate one of Berronar's blessings to the cause."

Lord Corley wisely sets aside Argent's interest in searching for spell books. Meanwhile, the question of protection from the cold comes up for those no longer protected. Both Lyonessa and Yusef offer up versions of Resist Cold as a temporary option. "I, too, have one to offer. Is there anyone other than Ivy who lacks protection?"

As they continue on, Grondar finds himself near the front of the group with Ivy, Sherra and Chareos. It occurs to him that they have travelled together a long way since they left Pyris.

Yusef calls a halt at the bottom of the stairs and reports that they are just outside the main temple. From the sound of it, there is significant opposition awaiting them.
Yusef wrote:Yusef steps back out of sight and fills the others in on what he saw. "With so many of those ice men, perhaps we should scout for another way in..." he suggests to Lord Corley.
"A good suggestion, Yusef," Grondar says. He then turns to Lord Corley. "I recommend we let our stealthiest members seek out another entrance from which they might be able to approach the altar with less opposition. Once they are in place, the rest of us attack through the main doors, drawing attention away so that they can make their move on the priestess. Hopefully the mages have some Fireballs or other area spells that they can use to substantially reduce the number of those icy warriors as we approach."

Sir Corley

Post by Corley »

Sir Corley:

In response to his question about cold protecting spells, Lady Lyonessa says:
A worried look crosses Lyonessa's face at hearing Ivy is no longer protected from this biting cold. She offers up a poor suggestion, "I only have a pair of Resist Cold spells, but their duration is measured in minutes rather than hours. I felt they might be useful if we fought a dire creature of the snow and ice, but you are welcome to their protection Ivy."

Lyonessa waits to see if Sir Corley and Ivy want her to cast the spell now. Maybe with some luck, the two spells will last long enough, the second cast when the first expires, for us to finish our task here.

"I have one as well, if that will be of help to you or anyone else." Yusef offers. He might use it on himself if things get bad enough, but others may well have a greater need.
“Since we have multiple copies of this spell around, go ahead and cast yours Lady Lyonessa. It is my hope to end this conflict within the next few minutes. Hold the other spells in reserve. If cold magic removes the cold resistance spells, then many of us will be without protection soon.”
Yusef steps back out of sight and fills the others in on what he saw. "With so many of those ice men, perhaps we should scout for another way in..." he suggests to Lord Corley.
“She is waiting for us to come to her,” Sir Corley states. “It’s a sound tactical practice. Take a defense position know to you and force the enemy to attack on an unknown battlefield. Given her position and how she’s aligned her forces, I doubt we’d be able to backtrack and find another way. At least not before the Lady Ivy’s cold protection fades again.”

Turning to the rest of the group, Sir Corley says, “I feel that now is the time to make our stand. These ice warriors are little more than a nuisance to us. Only their great numbers make them dangerous. It is the Priestess we should be directing our attacks towards. Mages, do you have magic that will remove the ice warriors from the battle, or perhaps block them from reaching us?”

“My plan of attack is simple. Mages will use their spells to clear a path for us to reach the priestess. Those with ranged weapons should start using them right away against her. The rest of us will fight our way to her.”

“Aria and I will lead the charge. Yusef, Grondar, Ivy, and Farian will follow. Sherra remain in the back with your bow, as will Chareos, Argent and Lyonessa so that they can cast spells.”

“Any questions?”

Ivy feels better once the bitter cold is hedged out once more. “Thank you Lyonessa. I too am familiar with the spell, but didn’t pray for it today. An error on my part. Lyonessa is correct. This will not last very long.”
Uncharacteristically, Grondar scowls for a moment, then turns to Ivy. "It appears that there are several wounded in our party. Perhaps now would be a good time to channel the power of the gods through your enchanted mace. I would be willing to donate one of Berronar's blessings to the cause."
“Of course!” Ivy answers. “Why didn’t I think of that? Those who are wounded gather close to me. I’ll heal all of us with just one spell.”

None of us look to be in too bad of shape, so Ivy will burn her Charm Person spell and cast Cure Moderate Wounds.

Soon we reach the ground floor of the Ice Palace. The main temple is located as is the High Priestess, but she isn’t alone. A small army guards the way! There is talk of finding another way to reach her, but Sir Corley seems to want to make his stand here.
“Aria and I will lead the charge. Yusef, Grondar, Ivy, and Farian will follow. Sherra remain in the back with your bow, as will Chareos, Argent and Lyonessa so that they can cast spells.”
“As you wish, Sir Corley.” Ivy grasps her mace tightly and waits for the charge to begin. Given her unhindered movement upon the ice, Ivy will undoubtedly be near the front. She’ll attack any ice warrior that strays too close to her.
For the glory of the Blue Lady!

Argent:
Turning back to Lady Argent, Sir Corley adds, “Not at the present time, milady. Perhaps after we’ve finished defeating the Cold One’s followers you can return and search for other treasures.”
Argent will nod her response to Sir Corley. His answer does not surprise her in the least. She’ll spend whatever time is left searching for valuables.
“Of course!” Ivy answers. “Why didn’t I think of that? Those who are wounded gather close to me. I’ll heal all of us with just one spell.”
“Count me in for that!” Argent will step beside Ivy to be healed.

We continue on down the stairs. Argent will fly overhead and avoid taking any unexpected trips. We reach the bottom of the stairs and find the enemy waiting for us.
Argent thinks for a few moments and then snaps her fingers saying, “I’ve got it! These ice warriors are going to be little more than puddles once I’m done with them. The size of this temple is perfect for my needs! I’ll cast a circular Wall of Fire right in the middle of the temple. I estimate that it’ll take up about thirty feet, or roughly half the area. The burning side will be on the outside and this will affect anyone within twenty feet of it. Therefore, no ice warrior can get past the wall without being affected by it! Chareos can then cast a Fireball down one of the open sides to clear the way. As a side effect, it’ll help anyone who looses their cold protect keep warm if you stay close enough.”

“As for the priestess, she’s already in range for most of my combat spells. Once I cast the Wall of Fire, I can let her have it from back here. This last battle will be very short and very one sided!”

Grondar wrote:Lord Corley wisely sets aside Argent's interest in searching for spell books. Meanwhile, the question of protection from the cold comes up for those no longer protected. Both Lyonessa and Yusef offer up versions of Resist Cold as a temporary option. "I, too, have one to offer. Is there anyone other than Ivy who lacks protection?"
“I’ll be takin’ one of those mself,” Aria mutters. She had grown too accustomed to being warm to remain unprotected.

We reach the icy temple and battle seems imminent. Tactics are mentioned along with much magical mumbo-jumbo.
Corley wrote:“Aria and I will lead the charge. Yusef, Grondar, Ivy, and Farian will follow. Sherra remain in the back with your bow, as will Chareos, Argent and Lyonessa so that they can cast spells.”
“Aye, let’s carve up this cold wench and retreat to warmer places!”

Once the command to charge is given, Aria will rush the enemy inwardly hoping not to fall on her face in the process!

Sherra:

It seems some of us have lost or protection to the cold and the only remaining spells are of a much limited duration. We move out once more, and Sherra knows time is against us. However, our descent passes without incident and the chamber we are seeking lies in front of us. However, it appears our arrival was prepared for.
“Aria and I will lead the charge. Yusef, Grondar, Ivy, and Farian will follow. Sherra remain in the back with your bow, as will Chareos, Argent and Lyonessa so that they can cast spells.”

“Any questions?”
Sherra doesn't have any questions about Corley's plan, so she readies her bow. She won't use magical arrows at first because she has so precious few remaining. However, if Sherra judges her normal shafts are doing nothing, she will switch.

Sherra also keeps her armor blended in with the surrounding ice walls to hopefully make her a harder target, although she wonders if the ice constructs even rely on sight.

Farian

Taking up his war hammer Farian listens to the game plan. Realizing he might be the slowest in the strike team Farian puts forward. “If I can get behind her I will.”

Farian will steel himself for the battle to come his shield before him. He will move as fast as he can hoping not to slip and fall on his way.

“Simple enough.” he says upon hearing Argent’s words, Quite impressed by her plan of attack. “Just be mindful of Heat that the wall will give off. We don’t want the whole place coming down around our ears.’

“I have a couple fireballs, and odds and ends that might prove useful.”

When Argent casts and creates her fire wall Chareos will soon after Cast his Fireball spell placing it above a large concentration of ice creatures in the way of his comrades, being mindful not to flambé his own.

Yusef:
Ivy wrote:“Of course!” Ivy answers. “Why didn’t I think of that? Those who are wounded gather close to me. I’ll heal all of us with just one spell.”
Somewhat reluctantly, Yusef steps close to the Azrellan priestess. He doesn't consider himself that badly hurt, but he recalls one of his teachers warning about the dangers of pride, so he accepts the healing without comment.

Yusef nods in reply to Grondar's praise, even as the dwarf proceeds to embellish upon his idea. Unfortunately, Lord Corley shoots the plan down in favor of a straight frontal attack. Corley lays out the order of attack, and Yusef responds by preparing a pair of his throwing spikes in each hand.

Argent presents her idea for using her magic to remove the ice warriors from the conflict. Between her firey wall and Chareos's fireballs, there should be little opposition between them and the priestess. However, the wall of fire gives Yusef an idea that he may just be able to exploit.

When the order comes to attack, Yusef will swing a little to the side toward the fire wall. This should give him an opportunity to cast his Silence 15' Radius at the priestess. He will then seek to enter the Wall of Fire at the nearest point, then follow the arc around toward the priestess, actually running inside the fire. Hopefully, the heat and flames will mask his presence as he gets closer. Then, he will exit the Wall at the point where it is closest to the priestess and make directly for her, tossing a pair of spikes as he closes the distance.

Ivy wrote:“Of course!” Ivy answers. “Why didn’t I think of that? Those who are wounded gather close to me. I’ll heal all of us with just one spell.”
"I'm certain you would have soon enough, milady," Grondar says with a smile.
Aria wrote:“I’ll be takin’ one of those mself,” Aria mutters. She had grown too accustomed to being warm to remain unprotected.
"My pleasure, fair lady," Grondar replies. With a brief prayer, he adds Berronar's protection to Aria's more earthly defenses.

Grondar is surprised by Corley's response to his and Yusef's suggestion. To his mind, a quick scouting trip by Yusef and Farian would likely not have taken long. However, Lord Corley is their appointed leader, and Grondar will not argue the decision. Instead, he prepares TruthGiver and his shield for the assault.

Looking over at Ivy, Grondar says, "This might be the appropriate time for that spell we discussed earlier. Still interested?" If so, Grondar will go ahead and cast his Strength of Stone on the priestess of Azrella.

Grondar then returns to Lord Corley. "I have another spell that may be of benefit here. By casting Protection from Evil 10' Radius here where the ranged specialists are, they should be protected from any of these ice creatures that slip past the firestorm Argent and Chareos whip up." If this idea meets with their leader's approval, Grondar will create the protected zone as described.

Lastly, as they complete their final preparations and prepare to charge, Grondar will cast Recitation over the assembled group. His Prayer spell will be held in reserve in case the fight lasts longer than expected.

Lyonessa smiles at Ivy, glad she could give protection to the priestess once more. Grondar casts his upon Aria, so that means Lyonessa can save her last spell just in case someone else needs it.

"I can help our odds too," Lyonessa adds. "I have a Monster Summoning spell. Those summoned can be directed to keep any remaining ice warriors off of your advance Sir Corley and also help protect us back here."

If agreed, Lyonessa will cast Shield on herself, then Monster Summoning just after the fire spells go off. Then she will cast Hold Person on the priestess and finally Spiritual Hammer to use against any ice foes remaining or against the priestess if needed.

Sir Corley listens to all the spell suggestions given to him. “These all sound good to me. You may proceed. We’ll time our assault to begin after Lady Argent’s erects her fiery wall and Lord Chareos’ casts his Fireball. I like the notion of having guards for the rear force, Lady Lyonessa. Keep the creatures you summoned back here in case anyone gets past us. For victory!”
