Introduction:
The Domino Effect was our first attempt at a major mini-series in the campaign. It was conceived by Muskateer and he wrote about half of the issues. He seemed to get bogged down on the story and ended up turning the rest of it over to me. Not really known what he was trying to accomplish, I finished the story based on what he had written. Because of that it ended up being something of a mess. Should we redo this series, it’ll take a very different form.
The Domino Effect was 13 issues in length.

The Domino Effect #1 - "Maxima"
In a distant future, mankind awaits his own extinction. Atomic, bacteriological and chemical warfare has turned the ground radioactive, the air infectious, and the water toxic.
Among the last survivors of mankind is a small collection of scientists. Their adopted mission: save the human race from itself.
To this end, they created a one-shot time machine to send someone back to stop the infamous date known as “The Day the Bubble Burst”. A second group of scientists worked to create the ultimate human being. Her name is Maxima and she has skin stronger than steel, fantastically increased speed, healing, and strength.
And so Maxima was sent back into the past, back before the Day the Bubble Burst in an attempt to prevent it from happening. The plan was perfectly executed. Almost.
Maxima did arrive in the present day, but she had much of her memory erased from the trip through time and a strange sickness she contracted. All that she could remember about the nature of her mission was something called “Prima 1” whatever that was. While trying to put the pieces of her own past and her mission together, Maxima became what those of this time period called a superhero.
Maxima’s attention is attracted by the sound of nearby explosions. Spotting Firewing throwing about blasts of destruction, Maxima went on the offensive!
The two battle furiously. Maxima leaps into the air and hits Firewing with a flying tackle, sending both crashing through a skyscraper in the process. The two struggled for what seemed like hours. Finally, the combatants nearly managed to knock each other out. Firewing, barely able to stand himself, grabs Maxima and flies off with her. From a dizzying height, he drops the heroine!
While most onlookers had departed the area long ago, one did remain to witness the end of the battle: Ultron! He discovers that Maxima is an artificial human and deems her necessary for his plans.
Maxima plunges from the sky, creating an impact crater. Amazingly she survives. At the impact site, a squad of Kilbots show up to capture Maxima.
In his hidden complex, Mechanon was as pleased as a machine could be. His latest plan for the painful death of all organic life was coming along perfectly. His Kilbots had just captured the woman Maxima.
While he is musing, Ultron contacts Mechanon. The two machines agree to meet to discuss an alliance.
While this is going on, Maxima regains consciousness and defeats the Kilbots. She flees Mechanon’s lair and the Prime Machine does nothing to stop her.
Elsewhere in the hidden base of the Conquerors, there is a conflict brewing. Neutron has just laid out to his followers his latest plan to conqueror the world. Ankylosaur thinks its crazy and he and Wyvern walk out.
Neutron lets them go, because once they see his ultimate plan in action, they’ll be begging to come back.

The Domino Effect #2 - "Firefight"
On the alternate Earth known as Ean, the Blood Woman known as Wildfire has concluded her forbidden studies. She plans to transport herself to Earth and free the All-Father from his imprisonment. She dares even dream of gaining the powers to become a god.
However, Wildfire’s actions have not gone unnoticed. The Council of Nine dispatches a Bloodletter to hunt her down.
On Earth, Wildfire has landed in Los Angeles. For three days she explores the sites and sounds of the big city. It is so much unlike her home on Ean.
She is unaware that a Bloodletter is following her, waiting to move in for the kill. However, the Bloodletter is unaware the he himself is being followed. That is until he feels a thin cord wrap around his neck and pulled tight. The Bloodletter struggled in vain and was soon dead. Yet another victim of the infamous Garrote.
Unaware of her close call, next day Wildfire is riding the city bus downtown. Today she would learn about the quaint human custom of shopping. Unexpectedly, the bus comes to a screeching halt when it encounters Plasmoid!
Enraged at this interference, Wildfire confronts Plasmoid. Plasmoid ignores Wildfire, making the Blood woman very mad. She tags Plasmoid with a blast of fire. The two battle and Plasmoid quickly gets the upper hand. However, Plasmoid was distracted by an ATM machine and ignored Wildfire. The Blood woman crawled away, thankful to be alive.
That evening in a hidden cave near Redondo Beach, Wildfire located what she had been searching for. The nexus point that held the Children of Azog at bay; a portal encircled by rubies. There was an aura of evil in the cave system and Wildfire felt excited by its touch.
As Wildfire worked to remove the rubies, another Bloodletter appeared. This Bloodletter had arrived on Earth decades ago to hunt down a family of Blood that had dared to go against the Council of Nine.
A mystic bolt blasted through Wildfire, very nearly slaying her. Blood ran down her face, arms and stomach. Barely alive, Wildfire wondered what this stranger wanted of her. A second mystic blast killed Wildfire, shredding her body in the process.
Satisfied that the Blood was dead, the Bloodletter departed the cave system. Back in the portal chamber, the portal pulsed with power for a second and then was still once more…

Comments:
Muskateer wrote these issues. Maxima was another character from Dragon Magazine #111. The issue had a feature about high-powered characters in superhero RPG’s. They had Phoenix for Marvel, Supergirl for DC, Quantum for Champions, and Maxima for V&V.
For a short time, both Ultron and Mechanon existed on our world. Currently, there is only Mechanon as we purged comic book based characters.
The Garrote has further appearances in X-Factor.
Its kind of hard to tell just what is going on here. But that’s sort of the idea of the mini-series where several seemingly unrelated things are actually related. Or as the title of the mini-series suggests, one thing leads to another. Both of these issues were sort of like prologues to the series. The heroes don’t appear for a while yet.
