Crucible #50 - "An Age Undreamt Of"

Post by GM Mad »

Prolog:

It is generally believed that the universe was created in an explosion of incalculable energy some 15 billion years ago. Time passed and the energy cooled and matter was formed. Gravity drew the matter together into clumps eventually forming the stars and planets as we know them.

Some 6 billions ago, Earth’s solar system was formed. The sun ignited for the first time and the Earth was little more than molten rock fused together. The Earth cooled and slowly at rich oxygen atmosphere came into being.

Some 570 million years ago, the first forms of life came into being in Earth’s oceans. More time passed and life moved on to the land. Species thrived while others died out. The most famous of these pre-historic species were the dinosaurs who ruled the earth for over 100 million years.

The age of the dinosaurs came to a crashing end some 65 million years ago. It is commonly believe that the reason for this mass extinction was an asteroid collision with the planet in the area we call the Yucatan Peninsula. Ninety percent of life on Earth died at this time as the asteroid threw tons of dirt and debris into the atmosphere, shrouding the planet in a perpetual night. Plant life died and all but the hardiest of creatures followed suit.

Eventually life did return to the Earth and new creatures came into being. Some thirty thousand years ago mankind took its first steps. Today humanity rules the Earth.

Roll Call: Blackout, Frostbite, & Goldstar

In Downtown San Diego, the heroes have encountered a strange lab that just recently forced itself into our reality from another point in time and space. The laboratory has been draining energy from the runaway Breeder Reactor at the Caliente Research Laboratories preventing it from growing critical.

Frostbite approaches the lab and the scientist reveals that he is reptilian in nature. Using a keyboard and display with a translation program, he warms the heroes to stay away as he is trying to save his race from extinction. As a by-product of his siphoning of power, the white done has reappeared and now appears to be growing.

Frostbite asks that the scientist stop doing whatever it is he is doing. The scientist doesn’t appear to be paying any attention to Frosty. Instead he continues to monitor his controls. A few moments later, he punches another button and the golden beam ceases!

The equipment in the laboratory hums with the drained energy. It is literally brimming over with it. Seemingly satisfied, the scientist hits a few more controls. Seemingly in response to that, the world around you begins to blink in and out a few times before fading completely!

The lab reappears in what must be a much larger laboratory! Strange devices ring the outside of the lab and many other reptiles are there looking on. Some give the appearance of scientists while a few are dressed in protective clothing had have weapons on them.

The ceiling is open to the sky. More controls are hit and the energy stored in the laboratory is discharged! Goldstar flies up into the sky following the beam of energy and is quickly out of sight. You can’t help but follow it up into the sky. Far off in the distance, hanging alarmingly over the sky is a large moon-sized rock!

The energy strikes the rock and it explodes in a dazzling display. The reptilian scientists celebrate for a few moments and then an alarm sounds in the laboratory. In response, the scientists quickly evacuate the area. You get the feeling that the equipment is overloaded and will soon explode!

Roll Call: Backlash, Tesla, & Stormchild

Inside the apartment building, the heroes have just come across a woman who was attacked by what she called a monster. She holds on tightly to Backlash for protection.
Backlash wrote:“Don’t worry, we will.” as he moves past the women. “Perhaps you may want to wait outside.” He will move slowly into the apartment with his density up. If anything jumps at him he will greet it with a punch to its face.
“No! Please don’t leave me alone!”, the woman pleads as she secures a death grip on Backlash. In the process she ignores Alec’s question.

“I’ll go on ahead,” Tesla says. “You can stay here with her.”

The electrical heroine enters the apartment followed by Stormchild. The pair quickly searches the apartment. In the bedroom they come across a grisly scene. The next-door neighbor, Mrs. Wiggins, is laying on the bed in a pool of her own blood. It appears as if some wild animal has ripped her apart!

Back outside the apartment, Backlash takes a look at the woman holding on to him and does a double take! He suddenly places who she reminds him of. She looks like Sheila Grace, the world famous model and actress!

‘Sheila’ smiles malevolently at Backlash and her form begins to shift. She becomes furry and her mouth grows and becomes filled with sharp teeth. The woman Backlash was holding tightly is turning into a werewolf!

Roll Call: Eldrich

Eldrich continues to move across Downtown San Diego bearing a frozen Devilspawn. He was alarmed at first as the white energy dome returned, but now continues along with his captive.

Suddenly, bright beam of energy that was cutting through the sky vanishes. The dome remains intact, but now the outside world is changing! The familiar skyline of San Diego winks in and out a few times and then vanishes complete! In its place, a new skyline takes form. One that was not constructed by humans!

The inside of the dome remains unchanged.

Roll Call: Flux, Menagerie, & Tilt-A-Whirl

At the Caliente Research Laboratories, the situation is not as dire. The energy drain has bled the way extra power being generated by the reactor. Upon reaching safe levels, Dr. Solomon declares that the reactor can be shut down. The procedure is started and all seems to be going well.

The beam siphoning away the energy stops, but it is of little consequence at this point. Power levels are well within the safe range.

With everything seemingly in hand here, the heroes depart to investigate the swelling of the energy dome and the strange anomaly Edgar reported downtown. Tilt and Menagerie in the form of Tilt rush off to investigate, while Flux stays behind for a moment. The Young Champions return to their jet with the intention of following, while Starguard says he’ll join you at the anomaly shortly. Flux then takes off following the Tilt’s.

The real Tilt is slightly faster that Menagerie’s imitation of her and leads the way. Flux trails behind them overhead.

Up ahead the white energy dome can clearly be seen. It is no longer growing and in fact seems to be shrinking again. But before the heroes can reach it, the dome and everything in it wavers and fades a few times.

Suddenly an invisible wave of energy strikes each of you! Both Tilts are tossed to the ground and Flux crashes behind them!

As you regain your wits, you find that everything around you has changed. San Diego and the white dome are gone. The landscape is bleak and barren. Its very warm and everything has a reddish tint to it. A large red sun dominates the sky overhead. The ground is dry and cracked. There is no sign of vegetation of any type. There doesn’t appear to be life of any type around you.

There is no sign of the Young Champions jet. It appears that you three are all alone in this desolate place.

Epilog:

Some 66 million years ago, a strange white dome of energy appeared over a sub-tropical area of the Earth. The strange dome was a nexus point in time and space. A place that existed in all times on the Earth. White energy bathed those dinosaurs within the dome and changed them. Some of the creatures were sent to other times and places while a few others became sentient.

Time rolled on and those intelligent dinosaurs quickly learned how to use tools and machines to perform tasks for them. Their bodies evolved quickly to adapt to their new circumstances. There civilization advanced over the centuries that followed.

One day, a saurian scientist discovered that a gigantic asteroid was on a collision course with the Earth. His calculations indicated that it was virtually wipe out all life on Earth if it hit. This tragedy must be prevented!

Building a laboratory within the limits of the strange white energy dome, the scientist discovered that the temporal barriers were weak there and that with enough power they could be broken. He detected a powerful energy source from elsewhere within the dome and worked to locate it.

Donning a sealed exploration suit to investigate the dome, the saurian scientist projected himself into future. He appeared as a ghostly apparition at first and what he saw was astonishing! A great city existed inside the dome that was occupied by strange creatures unlike any he had ever seen. They had strange machines and being with abilities beyond comprehension.

Finally, the signal lock strengthened and the scientist was able to project his entire laboratory into the future near the energy source he detected. By tapping into that energy source, the laboratory became stabilized in this new time. He quickly began to drain the energy, storing it for his task.

Several of the local creatures approached, but he would not let them stop him. After securing all the power he needed, the scientist returned to his own time and unleashed the energy he had acquired. The asteroid was destroyed! The saurian civilization was saved!

Today the Saurians rule the Earth. Mankind? They never existed.

GM Notes:

Welcome to the 50th post of Crucible! Reality itself has changed as the dinosaurs never died out! Humanity never existed, except for you guys and the other within the energy dome.

The group now exists in three separate places. Frostbite and Blackout were drawn back in time to witness the destruction of the asteroid that destroyed the dinosaurs. They are now 65 million years in the past.

From Backlash, Tesla, and Storm Child perspective, nothing has changed. Eldrich can see that everything outside the dome has changed, but inside is still the same.

Meanwhile Flux, Menagerie, and Tilt are somewhere else.

And that brings us to the eternal question…

Now what?

Just curious how she is holding him? Are his hands/arms free or is his hands/arms caught under her arms like a bear hold.

Alec's lower lip quivers as he sees the one neighbor who always treated him with such kindness. Mischievous to a fault, Alec had not been the favored child in the apartment complex. Mrs. Wiggins had always been kind to him, however, and he had never once played a prank on her.

Now she was obviously dead. Seeing enough news programs and prime time TV had taught him that much. Anger mixed with sorrow as he tried to comprehend what he was seeing. Sadness won out, and the boy stood paralyzed, looking with fear in his eyes at Tesla.

“No one is gonna be leaving you alone. Your alright now.” Trying to console her.
“I’ll go on ahead,” Tesla says. “You can stay here with her.”

Backlash eyes plead with Tesla not to leave her alone with this women and he lipsinks, “Please don’t leave me with her. I’m not good at this sort of thing.”

Hiding his fustration at missing out on the action he looks her over and then quickly does a Double take!!!

“Sheila Grace!!! Oh my god I love your work!! I would of thought you would of lived in a classer place then this.” he says without thinking.

She says nothing in response and looks malevolently at Backlash, “ Did I say something wrong?” he asks as her form begins to twist and shift, Her body Becomes Fury and her nose begins to protrude with very sharp teeth!!!

“Oh no…” he words mouthlessly, then yells at the top of his lungs, “TESS!!! Get out here!! I think I found it!!!!!”

Bringing his Density up he raises his hands to grip the neck of the beast, if he is successful in doing so he will begin trying to extend his arms to give him a little more movement.

Frostbite

The energy strikes the rock and it explodes in a dazzling display. The reptilian scientists celebrate for a few moments and then an alarm sounds in the laboratory. In response, the scientists quickly evacuate the area. You get the feeling that the equipment is overloaded and will soon explode!

Realizing if that machine blows up there is no way of going back home……

Frosty moves to the controls and tries figure the machine out as quickly as he can, if he is able he will try to reroute the power, hitting the same buttons that the scientist did in order to bring them here in the first place.

If he can he will raise his PD/ED armor as much as he can while doing this.

"ooooffff!" Tilt exclaims as she bounces off the ground. Blinking rapidly, she is completely preplexed. "whathe?wherearewe?" she asks pseudo-Tilt and Flux.

Licking her lips subconsciously as she looks around the cracked and barren earth, Tilt starts feeling uncomfortable. While the others get their wits, she races around in a wide circle to get an idea of the surrounding area. Tilt will keep the other two in sight though, and will only be gone for the few seconds it takes her to look around.
"wanna race?" ;)

I Don't Think We're in Kansas Anymore

Menagerie:

Menagerie races along behind her young friend. Fortunately, she can almost keep up, so the real Tilt doesn't get too far ahead. As they run, it becomes apparent that the white dome isn't growing anymore. It's hard to tell for sure, but it might even be shrinking. At least something is going their way today...

There is a sudden wavering of the dome, and then something - moving too fast for even the pair of speedsters to react - slams into them. Menagerie cries out in shock, more than pain, as she hits the ground hard.

It takes a few moments for Lily to begin to perceive the real world once again. When she does, rubbing the spots from her vision, she doesn't like what she sees: nothing, as far as the eye can see.

"Oh my God! Rose!" Menagerie exclaims, shifting to her Gold-Lily form. Tilt-A-Whirl goes racing off to scan the surroundings, but Lily has a somewhat different way of accomplishing the same thing. Launching herself into the sky, she flies straight up. Slowly rotating as she rises, Lily desperately searches the skyline for any sign of the island castle where she had last seen her daughter.

Tesla:

Backlash eyes plead with Tesla not to leave her alone with this women and he lipsinks, “Please don’t leave me with her. I’m not good at this sort of thing.”

Tesla lets out a low "hhmmpphh," and then mouths "you seem to be doing well enough." She turns and heads to the other apartment, unable to hide her smile anymore.

"Oh boy," Tesla says as she fights with her stomach for control. Even though she was in the military, as a pilot she didn't ever see many things like what she has to look at now. Suddenly she remembers the boy is with her and she looks down, seeing his sad and fearful eyes.

Kneeling down, she says to him, "We can't stay here." As if to cap off that point, Backlash calls out suddenly.

“Oh no…” he words mouthlessly, then yells at the top of his lungs, “TESS!!! Get out here!! I think I found it!!!!!”

Rushing out of the apartment, Tesla heads back to see the scene unfolding. Bringing her force field up, she prepares to hit the beast with an electrical blast should she get a clear shot.

Eldrich Incant

The world beyond the white dome alters drasticely as Eldrich watches, still gripping the demon in it's ice sheath. The decidedly different skyline is no more familiar than the previous one had been two days ago. Worse, the area inside the dome was still the city as it had been, including all the inhabatants!

Whatever new place I am come to, this time I am not alone. I can only hope the others are not also cast from their familiar place as well.

Eldrich will try to call Edgar and continue to Step towards the city's new boundary.......

Flux

Flux climbs up from his crash landing physically no worse for wear.

"Everyone all right?"

"ooooffff!" Tilt exclaims as she bounces off the ground. Blinking rapidly, she is completely preplexed. "whathe?wherearewe?" she asks pseudo-Tilt and Flux.
"Oh my God! Rose!" Menagerie exclaims, shifting to her Gold-Lily form.
"Careful now! Don't everyone run off at once."

Unfortunately, they do just that, understandably.

Flux expands to full size to give himself a better view and stand out upon this flat plain as a landmark for the others.

Where we are might not be the right question. When might be better.

Flux's first concern is water, food and shelter in that order.
If this is all there is then their chances for survival are slim...

Alec nods numbly as Tesla whispers about not staying. He follows her out and whitens even further as he sees the morphing monster on Backlash.

Enraged and frightened, the boy yells in outrage. "Get off him!" he shrieks, angrily wishing...willing...the thing would fly off Backlash. Not even really aware that he can, Alec concentrates as he tries to throw the monster off Backlash.

Roll Call: Blackout & Frostbite

Caught up in the energy generated by the strange laboratory, our heroes have been transported 65 million years into the past! It is the time of the dinosaurs and some of them seem to be intelligent! The asteroid that originally ended the age of the dinosaurs has been destroyed and will not impact into the Earth.

An alarm sounds as the energy contained in the laboratory can no longer be contained. The saurians in the area flee. First Frostbite and then Blackout rush in trying to spot the overload and save the equipment.

Frostbite eyes the controls and quickly realizes that the placement and labeling of them makes no sense at all. This was created by something completely other than human. As he desperately scans the controls ice begins to thicken around him.

Blackout steps up help but is likewise unsure what to do. Finally the two start to push buttons trying to work from memory and just guessing.

Unexpectedly, the antenna array that originally absorbed the energy and fired the asteroid destroying beam fires again! Another blast of energy is sent into the heavens, but it does not appear to strike anything unlike last time.

The whine of the energy build up fades and the panels in the laboratory darken. The excess energy has been drained away and the lab is now powerless.

As the heroes catch their breath, they realize that the reptilian scientists are beginning to wander back to the area. They eye the humans warily.

Roll Call: Backlash, Tesla, & Stormchild

Back in the present, the monster the heroes have been hunting has found them instead. Disguising itself as supermodel and actress Sheila Grace, it got close to Backlash. Then after the others left, it transformed into a werewolf!

Lash increases his density and begins to wrestle with the werewolf. He’s strong enough to keep the beast at bay as the wolf tries to bite him with his sharp teeth!

Tesla and Alec come on to the scene while that is going on. Electricity begins to arc around Tess while Alec becomes angry.
"Get off him!" he shrieks.
In response to that, an unseen force violently shoves the werewolf out of Backlash’s grasp. The wolf bounces off the hallway wall and lands on the floor on its paws.

Now away from Backlash, Tesla blasts the werewolf with her lightning. Singed from the attack, the werewolf lets out a growl and begins to run away. It reaches the stairs and starts to go up them, back towards the roof.

Roll Call: Eldrich

Eldrich contacts Edgar once more.

“There has been some type of temporal incursion of an unprecedented scale. Some event in the past has been changed and that has altered our present. Those inside the dome where shielded from the change, but the entire outside world is now different. The dominant life form is now reptilian in nature. I would be very careful should you choose to leave the dome. I am not sure what would happen in you do.”

Roll Call: Flux, Menagerie, & Tilt

Elsewhere, the remaining members of the Vigilant find themselves in a barren and desolate place. The white barrier is gone as is San Diego. An alien red sun looms large over them. It dominates the sky unlike the yellow sun that they are familiar with. The heat is unbearable and the landscape is dry with numerous cracks in it. No plant life can be seen.

Tilt begins to rush around in a wide circle to better see if anything is around. Menagerie gets the same idea, but goes up instead in the form of Goldstar. Flux stays behind, but grows to his largest size to stand out on this otherwise barren plain.

Gold-Lily gets the best view of things from the air. Rising up into the reddish sky, she can only see more barren plains that slope away to the south and west. Mountains rise to the east and north, but these do not resemble the ones that used to surround San Diego. No water of any kind can be seen.

However, Gold-Lily does spot something far off in the distance up in the mountains. There is a small reflection off something shiny. It’s too far away to clearly make out what it is.

Returning to the ground, Gold-Lily is in for another shock. She lands beside Flux and Tilt who returns from her unsuccessful scouting trip. Much to Lily’s surprise, the skin of Tilt and Flux is very red and blisters are beginning to break out. Neither one of them feels all that well, but they are well enough to continue onward.

Strangely enough, Gold-Lily’s skin remains golden in color and blister free.

Eldrich Arcane

"A massive temporal shift? Temporal magic is dangerous even under controlled conditions, High One. I myself know nothing of it.
Are any of the other Vigilant still present in the, er, present?"

"And for that matter, are you somehow within the area uneffected? I would have thought your location beyond range?"

Eldrich glances down at the ice-encrusted demoness, remembering belatedly the legend of demonic association back home: that ill luck attends those who traffic with any such.

Just a few minutes with this one and my luck has altered for the worse at a remarkable pace! Mine, and this city's as well. Or is it this world's fortune's that have plummeted? With temporal changes involved it can become difficult to hold onto a fixed viewpoint.

Eldrich throws off the begininngs of introspection before it starts. Now is not a good time to become distracted!

"High One, if the new boundary is unsafe then I am open to suggestion as how to proceed from here. I still have the demon in ice with me. To where should I go next?"

Flux

Just a few minutes under this sun is enough to start blisters forming on bare skin. The news of mountains means shelter at least, and maybe water too.

"We have to get to shade quickly people: my guess is the ozone layer is thin here and it's going to get cold at night too. Since we have two ranges to choose from I say we look at the reflecting item. Might be ice and we can use the water."

"Stick with that Goldstar form Lily. It should protect you from solar damage and maybe sustain you too."

Flux will offer to take up Tilt-a-Whirl while giant sized and fly her to the mountain, shading her in his hands.

Frostbite
Frostbite eyes the controls and quickly realizes that the placement and labeling of them makes no sense at all.
Upon reaching the controls Frosty let’s out a curse as the controls and labeling are in languages never seen before! “This isn’t good!!!” as he begins to hit random buttons on the panel, “Come on! Come on! One of these things HAS to work!!” the frustration apparent within his voice.

As the time begins to wind down and more lights blink he can’t help but think that this thing may blow up in his face. As his emotions run into thought, he barely notices the ice crystallizing and crackling as it hardens upon him!

Soon after Blackout joins him, a combination of sheer luck and hitting anything before them pays off as a beam of light emerges once again from the antennae!!!! The alarms soon dim and the lights return to normal. Letting out a cheer, “WOOOOHOOOO!!!!! We did it!!!!” after a thought he realizes that Star had flown after the first beam. “I hope we didn’t hit ‘Star!” he says.

With the situation resolved for the moment the scientist begin to return casting glances between us. He can’t help but see the nervously look about. Casting a glance at Balckout he then says, “Ah, Hello! We mean you no harm.” staying in one spot and making no sudden movements, “Where are we?” he asks unsure if they can understand him.

Backlash

Lash increases his density and begins to wrestle with the werewolf. He’s strong enough to keep the beast at bay as the wolf tries to bite him with his sharp teeth!

With snapping jaws the she-wolf tries to bite him thankfully he keeps the beast from landing a bite. Though he suffers from its horrible breath!!!

“ Ugh!! You are in seriously need of a breath mint!” as he keeps the beast at arms length.

He hears the boy shriek and the strangest thing happens, The She-wolf gets flung from his grasp!! “Grip isn’t what it used to be.” he says to himself more then anyone. As he watches the werewolf get shocked by teals and scamper off out the window and upstairs.

With the threat gone for the moment, Lash’ says, “Thanks guys. As soon as you guys left she went all primal on me. I just got one question….. What ripped it from my grasp?”

Looking at Tesla and the boy, “We got to catch that thing whatever it is, and find his mother..”

Rising into the sky, Lily finds that there is no sign of the Pacific Ocean, or the island where she left Rose in Edgar's care. She struggles to keep panic at bay.

Edgar! Is he still in range? Lily hits her commlink. "Edgar! This is Menagerie. Are you there? Do you read me?"

As she attempts to hail Edgar, he eyes spot a flash of light up in the mountains in a direction she thinks would be east. It's not much, but it's something.

With no better course, Gold-Lily returns to the ground to speak with Flux and Tilt. "I saw a flash of light up in the mountains," she says, pointing. "Looked like a reflection of some sort." She quickly notices the reddening of Flux and Tilt's skin. "Looks like you two are getting a nasty burn."
Flux wrote:"We have to get to shade quickly people: my guess is the ozone layer is thin here and it's going to get cold at night too. Since we have two ranges to choose from I say we look at the reflecting item. Might be ice and we can use the water."

"Stick with that Goldstar form Lily. It should protect you from solar damage and maybe sustain you too."
Gold-Lily nods at Flux's instructions; they're pretty much what she would have said. "I don't really know Goldy's powers very well, so there might be some way she could protect you. Let me try something." Lily will attempt to create a wall of energy out in front of them. If that works, she will try to shape it into an umbrella to protect her friends from the sun and hold it over them as they fly to the mountains.

Tilt-A-Whirl:

Running around doesn't seem to provide Tilt any special advantage, so she returns wearing a big pout. Worse, her skin seems to be getting really red! Blisters are even forming! She huddles her arms against herself, but the contact hurts, so she stops that immediately. Tilt is not very happy!

Flux will offer to take up Tilt-a-Whirl while giant sized and fly her to the mountain, shading her in his hands.

Tilt will nod vigorously, glad to get some relief from this horrible sun. She sees it's happening to Flux too though, and that makes her very sad.

blind luck...

Post by Blackout »

Blackout:
Blackout steps up help but is likewise unsure what to do. Finally the two start to push buttons trying to work from memory and just guessing.
Trying to remember if there was some sort of sequence, Blackout fumbles around, afraid to push buttons but running out of time. He can hear Frostbite's frustration, but keeps quiet himself.
Blackout lets out an audible sigh of relief and then joins Frostbite in celebration. "I hope not," Blackout agrees, mirroring concerns about Goldstar, "that seemed like quite a bit of energy released."
As the heroes catch their breath, they realize that the reptilian scientists are beginning to wander back to the area. They eye the humans warily.

Blackout takes a non-hostile posture, but beckons the reptilians, "It's ok. We've averted your crisis." Hopefully they can at least understand body language and tone if not their actual spoken words.

bark worse than the bite..?

Post by Tesla »

Tesla:

Tesla and Alec come on to the scene while that is going on. Electricity begins to arc around Tess while Alec becomes angry.

"Get off him!" he shrieks.

In response to that, an unseen force violently shoves the werewolf out of Backlash’s grasp. The wolf bounces off the hallway wall and lands on the floor on its paws.

Now away from Backlash, Tesla blasts the werewolf with her lightning. Singed from the attack, the werewolf lets out a growl and begins to run away. It reaches the stairs and starts to go up them, back towards the roof.

Her lightning blast seems to injure the werewolf after it was somehow ripped from Backlash. However, the celebrity-turned-werewolf runs off. "Don't tell me our werewolf is more of a scaredy cat," Tesla grumbles.

With the threat gone for the moment, Lash’ says, “Thanks guys. As soon as you guys left she went all primal on me. I just got one question….. What ripped it from my grasp?”

Looking at Tesla and the boy, “We got to catch that thing whatever it is, and find his mother..”

"It's your rougish good looks," Tesla replies, "but I don't know what blew her back. I only fired once the shot was clean."

Tesla will give chase. She'll have to stay on foot for now, but once outside will go airborne and do recon if they have to find a fleeing werewolf. If the werewolf is waiting for them, she will fire instead, as her flight's start-up time is a bit slow.

Storm Child

Uncertain what to do, the boy instinctively sidles in between the two Heroes and glances around. He heard talk of chasing the werewolf and while a part of him thought it was a good idea, the greater part of him just didn't care. He still didn't know where his Mother was.

"Why is this happening?" he almost whines, looking around. "My mother's here, then a monster, then my mother, then a monster...." he grumbles, trailing Backlash.

The Past:

Roll Call: Blackout & Frostbite

The strange Saurian laboratory has been prevented from exploding! The massive power build up was unleashed in a second blast of energy that was sent into the heavens. There wasn’t a massive explosion like the first blast caused when it destroyed the asteroid that would have ended the age of the dinosaurs.

With that crisis averted, the reptilian scientists start to slowly come back, warily eyeing the superpowered humans. The pair take non-threatening postures as the creepy humanoid lizards visually examine them. If the lizards can understand anything the humans say, they do not show any indication of it.

The Saurians seemingly begin to chat amongst themselves, using what sounds like shrills and whistles in place of words. Glances are exchanged and a few of the Saurians seem to smile, a horrific display of many razor sharp teeth.

The conversation ends and the scientists begin to spread out. Is it your imagination or are they starting to circle around you?

Now what?

The Present:

Roll Call: Backlash, Tesla, & Stormchild

The werewolf has been chased off by Tesla’s electrical attack. It has fled up the stairs and towards the roof. The heroes give chase with Alec running after them.

The roof is easily reached and Tesla takes to the air once more. The werewolf is not in sight, but what you do see makes each of you pause. A white translucent dome covers much of Downtown San Diego. Those who were here during the White Event of a few days ago will recall that it is similar to that white dome. However, this new dome appears to be even larger.

Even stranger than that, what lies outside the dome does not resemble San Diego in any shape or form. It is an alien cityscape of inhuman construction.

While you digest this, several alien crafts are noticed approaching and hovering over the dome. The largest of these crafts positions itself high above the center of the dome. Bay doors open up on the bottom of this craft and a large yellowish beam of energy fires down! The beam impacts with the white dome, but does not penetrate it. Instead, in response to the beam, the dome begins to shrink!

The other smaller ships begin to make slow passes over the dome. Their bay doors also open, and a wide light blue beam is emitted. This beam does penetrate the dome and its purpose quickly becomes apparent. As the beam sweeps the ground inside the dome those people in its path vanish when hit!

Roll Call: Eldrich

Elsewhere in Downtown San Diego, Eldrich pauses from transporting his demoness-cicle to contact Edgar. The sentient ship relates that reality itself has been changed.
"A massive temporal shift? Temporal magic is dangerous even under controlled conditions, High One. I myself know nothing of it. Are any of the other Vigilant still present in the, er, present?"
“I can still detect the comlinks belonging to Backlash and Tesla. Blackout, Frostbite, and Goldstar were investigating the heart of the anomaly and seem to have be temporarily shifted to a different era in time. The others were near the edge of White Bubble and vanished when reality was reset. I did register a temporal shift at that location. I can only surmise that they were transported to a different time period.”
"And for that matter, are you somehow within the area unaffected? I would have thought your location beyond range?"
“No, Master Eldrich. My location is within the dome. The dome occupied an area approximately two miles in all directions from ground zero. My location is just 1.7 miles from there.”

Edgar pauses for a moment before continuing to speak. “I’m registering a massive power surge within my body! It’s coming from Rose. She’s been distraught since her mother vanished. Something seems to be happening here. Yet another temporal shift seems to be in progress! I---!”

The comlink goes silent at this point and there is no further communication with Edgar.

Overhead, Eldrich can see the ships that Backlash, Tesla, and Stormchild noticed earlier. The largest ship seems to be draining away the White Bubble while other smaller ships seem to be sweeping the inside of the bubble with strange energy beams. Any living thing that makes contact with those beams vanishes!

Now what?

The Future?:

Roll Call: Flux, Menagerie, & Tilt-A-Whirl

The heroes find themselves on a desolate, barren plain with a giant reddish sun bearing down on them. The heat is tremendous and blisters are forming rapidly on the bodies of Flux and Tilt. Lily, in the form of Goldstar, is seemingly immune to all of this. She does not feel the heat nor do blisters form on her golden skin.

While exploring overhead, Gold-Lily tries to contact Edgar using her comlink.
Lily wrote:Edgar! Is he still in range? Lily hits her comlink. "Edgar! This is Menagerie. Are you there? Do you read me?"
There is a crackle of static and much to Lily’s surprise a response! The speaker does sound like Edgar!

“My word, madam, it has been a long time. We’ve been expecting you. I’ve noted your location. We’ll be there shortly. In the meantime time find shelter. You’re being bathed in lethal doses of radiation and it is not safe there. I don’t have time to say more now. See you soon! Edgar out.”

Returning to the others, Lily relates her communication with Edgar and that she found something shiny up in the mountains. Lily does a quick experiment as she tries to create a wall of energy to use a shield. The attempt fails and so the group moves on in search of shelter.

Flux picks up Tilt in his giant hands and uses his body to protect her from the lethal solar radiation. Gold-Lily leads the way.

As you move closer to the shiny refection Lily saw, something moves closer to you! It turns out that the reflection was actually an aircraft of some kind. It superficially resembles a fighter jet, but has alien an alien craftsmanship to it. As the craft flies closer, it begins to fire lasers at you!

A New World...Again?

Eldrich Arcane

The High One is gone......and those he held secure gone with him. Best I find the remaining members of the Vigilant.

Eldrich looks up to see the strange objects, ( creatures?, craft? ) directing beams of light onto people in the dome and the instant vanishment of their targets. Eldrich is struck with the impression of cleaning somehow, as a sweeping up of unwanted debris.

This must stop! Whoever rules here now, still must account the cost of life for their actions.

Eldrich begins to Step towards the largest object in the air with the cursed Demoness still in tow, not knowing precisely what he will do if he gets there.....

Air Assault

Flux

"So Edgar is here?? How'd he manage that?"

Well, I'll ask him later

"Mountains are still the best bet. We can make a hole in the side of one if we have to."

Cradling Tilt in his hands Flux flies upward with Lily toward the reflection she saw only to have it come closer to them!

It turns out that the reflection was actually an aircraft of some kind. It superficially resembles a fighter jet, but has an alien craftsmanship to it. As the craft flies closer, it begins to fire lasers at you!
"Hostile inbound! Take cover!" Flux shouts the warning out of reflex: there is no cover and they are in the air.

That was dumb, Sarge. Not on the ground fighting in the bush.

Flux will turn away from the attack to shield Tilt from incoming shots with his giant body, and try to evade.

"Gold! Take him out! Try for a wing shot!"

Frostbite
Frosty watches many of the scientists come back and look them over and begin talking to each other in shirlls and whistles. A few times he sees one or two smile with a razor sharp smile that chills him more then he already is.

Scientists? New creatures? Lunch or Lab rat? Didn’t I read something to this effect?!! Planet of the apes!!!!! It is then the realization hits him.

“I think we may have a problem….” he whispers to his companion as the conversation ends and they slowly begin to walk about the room eyeing us as they go.

If the Dino-humans decide to make their way forward Frosty will have no problems keeping them at bay. He radio’s Goldy, “Goldstar where ever you went I suggest you come back quickly! We may need you…..”

As he watches them encircle them Frosty will bring up his White out/snow storm centered around him and Blackout!

Backlash

Running up the fire escape Backlash stops dead in his tracks as the landscape comes into sight. With the werewolf forgotten He turns around and looks and sees a city but not his beloved San Diego!!

‘What the…..” it is then he sees the large ships hover above the globe One of which is shrinking the Globe while the others strafe the globe firing a blue ray as they go. Worse off anyone hit by the beams are vaporized!!!!

Looking at Tesla,
“Any chance you can get us up to that big one?” with all the other little ones flying around he doubts it but has to ask.
Take your best shot!

There's very little Tilt can do being cradled in the big man's hands. She should be the one saving Flux! There is so little she can do, and that makes her grumpy.

Tilt can only wait and hope they find shelter soon.

I Don't Think We're in Kansas Anymore

Menagerie:

So surprised is she by Edgar's response and the ramifications thereof, Lily cannot manage any intelligible reply before the contact is closed.
Flux wrote:"So Edgar is here?? How'd he manage that?"

"I have no idea. Hopefully, he'll explain later."

At least there is some hope, which she relates to her companions. Unfortunately, her attempt at shielding them is a bust.

They begin flying toward the mountains and the shiny object seen in that direction. It is soon apparent that it is moving toward them as well. By the look of it, an alien craft of some kind, it fires what appear to be laser weapons at them.
Flux wrote:"Hostile inbound! Take cover!" Flux shouts the warning out of reflex: there is no cover and they are in the air.

"Gold! Take him out! Try for a wing shot!"
Their leader seems a bit confused, but I guess they're all thrown by the circumstances in which they've just found themselves. "I've got it! Just get to the mountains and find cover."

Gold-Lily flies toward the craft, rising as she goes for a better angle. Hopefully, she can draw their fire. Not feeling like she can afford to play around, Menagerie choses Goldstar's powerful plasma blast and fires at the oncoming craft.

I don't recall exactly what Goldstar's powers are called, but Lily is pulling out the big guns, as it were (probably the RKA, if my guess about how they are designed is right).

not so friendly...?

Blackout nods grimly but says nothing to his companion Frostbite. The inability to communicate has left the two of them in a dire prediciment. Blackout doesn't want to resort to violence, but isn't going to let himself be attacked easily.

Also Goldstar is still missing, and they could really use the back-up right about now...

Blackout will remain ready to go full defensive if they decide to attack. If things become very pressing, he will drop himself into darkness and seek to evade.

They give chase to the werewolf and then find themselves what appears at first to be a science fiction movie. Tesla forgets all about the werewolf as she tries to understand what she's seeing. "What the...?" is all she manages to say for a moment, not really noticing Backlash says the exact same thing.

Looking at Tesla, “Any chance you can get us up to that big one?” with all the other little ones flying around he doubts it but has to ask.

Glancing at Backlash and then over at Alec, she answers, "I can probably carry both of you, but not sure for how long. You're sure you want to get closer to them?"

If he still does, Tesla will try to find a good time to head towards the large alien craft while avoiding the attention of the smaller ones. She'll see if they're flying in a pattern at all, and then time their attempt when they are furthest away. If there is no pattern, Tesla will just go when she thinks she has the best window of opportunity.
