New Frontiers #65

The downtime in Corunglain continues and Sir Validar spends time with Lady Gabriella Allonica…

Sir Validar wrote:"I must say that I am greatly disappointed, my lady. We have such little time to spend together and I know not when I shall look upon your loveliness again. That thought is much worse than the enemies we must face on our mission for the King. Do you have some token that I can take with me on this campaign to keep my connection to you?"

“I imagine that events will conspire to keep us apart while the Kingdom rights itself. Alas, these are the times that we live in. Perhaps our efforts will make for a lasting peace in the days to come.”

Lady Gabriella considers for a moment, and then removes a ribbon from her hair.

“Will this do, milord? It has a hint of my perfume on it so that it will remind you of me during those long, cold nights. Perhaps we’ll be together again sooner than either of us expects?”

“I believe that my next mission will be of great interest to you. I’ll be accompanying the King to Elcadan herself. Their assistance in this crisis in the form of men and supplies has been lacking. We will be traveling there to rectify this problem.”

“Also, my travels take me most everywhere in the Kingdom these days. Are there any private messages you wish for me to pass along? Perhaps to your parents?”

Sir Validar wrote:"We shall have to make the most of this evening then. I must truly say that I do not want it to end." After the engaging meal, Validar and Gabriella take a walk about the Fortress, continuing their talks. As night settles in and the air turns colder, the two return to the room where they dined and Validar has prepared a late drink of the finest brandy he could come across in the area.

Validar will pour them both a glass and offer one to his beautiful companion. "There are many things that we could toast to, Gabriella. To a safe mission for both of us. To the new King. To the rebirth of the Kingdom. But truly there is only one thought that fills my mind at the moment. To you, my lady."

“And to you, my knight,” Lady Gabriella says with a bright smile. “As you say, we have this evening. I am sure that it will be an enjoyable one.”

As mentioned last post, this conversation has been completely rewritten and seen in A Flame Rekindled .

Next morning, several groups depart from Corunglain. The knights Alon Teramar and Sharl Harlena move off with a force of men to the north to intercept one of the bands of invading orcs.

A short time after that, Lord Antonic and Lady Teris depart to shore up Fort Runnels.
Sir Corley wrote:After that, Lord Antonic and Lady Teris also depart for Fort Runnels. "I am sure that we'll make contact with you once Fort Fletcher is secured and we are ready to begin our campaign to reclaim Ardelphia. Given our relative positions, a coordinated effort amongst us will just accelerate the mission. Perhaps Lord Cavius of Rennydale can assist us as well."
“We'll keep a lantern lit for you, Sir Corley,” Lady Teris says with a smile. “Don’t keep us waiting long. Fort Runnels is not shaping up to be an enjoyable assignment and we’ll probably be desperate for the company.”

Near midday, the King summons Sir Acerion, Sir Corley, and Sir Validar.

“Well met, my knights! While we spoke about a great many things these last few days, there is something that I have overlooked. Right now you are all most valuable to me out on the field, on the front lines of battles against our enemies. But that will not always be the case. One day the time will come for you to withdraw from the field of battle to take up more administrative roles. I am curious at roles you are interested in fulfilling in the years to come.”

That evening, the Guardians have their little gathering. The food is wonderful and Lyonessa’s ballad is awe-inspiring. The evening ends much too soon and the group’s departure the following morning looms large.

GM Notes:

The group will be moved to Fort Fletcher in the NEXT post, so get all your business here in Corunglain wrapped up. I’ll need spell lists from all casters for your arrival at Fort Fletcher. Lord Sharadin is supposed to return to Corunglain in the morning and then transport the whole group using the Stone House. Given his busy schedule, he may be late.

The Stone House is not here, as it's being loaded with supplies elsewhere in the kingdom. Here’s a list of supplies expected to be included:

150 rations of food
20 barrels of water
10 barrels of oil
40 sets of winter coats and blankets
15 bags of grain
5 crates of cured meat
100’ of heavy chain
10 sets of blocks and tackle
10 bundles of hay for horses
4 crates of candles (100 per crate)
Cooking supplies and cookware
20 bullseye lanterns
30 hooded lanterns
150 flasks of lamp oil
2000’ of hemp rope
10 crates of arrows (100 flight arrows per crate)
3 crates of bolts (100 bolts per crate)

Lord Sharadin will be teleporting you to the designated arrival point in Fort Fletcher. You’ll need to unload your supplies so that Lord Sharadin can depart again with the Stone House. The plan is that he’ll return three days after that with reserve troops.

Now what?
Try it and find out!

Winding down in Corunglain...

Sir Validar -

Evening with Gabriella:
“I imagine that events will conspire to keep us apart while the Kingdom rights itself. Alas, these are the times that we live in. Perhaps our efforts will make for a lasting peace in the days to come.”

"You are correct. We are needed to help bring Cynalon back to her glory, each in our own way. I do hope you are correct that a lasting peace will form from all of these efforts."

Lady Gabriella considers for a moment, and then removes a ribbon from her hair. “Will this do, milord? It has a hint of my perfume on it so that it will remind you of me during those long, cold nights. Perhaps we’ll be together again sooner than either of us expects?”

Validar will accept the ribbon and lift it to take in the aroma of Gabriella's perfume. "I will keep this with me at all times, my lady. In truth, I will need no reminding of you, as you will certainly be on my mind each night. Regardless, I thank you for this token of yours."

"I can only hope that you are indeed correct that we will see each other again sooner than expected. That thought will make the time apart much easier." Validar leans in and kisses his beautiful companion briefly. "That and the expectation of another kiss from your beautiful lips."

“I believe that my next mission will be of great interest to you. I’ll be accompanying the King to Elcadan herself. Their assistance in this crisis in the form of men and supplies has been lacking. We will be traveling there to rectify this problem.”

"You are correct, my lady. Anything involving Elcadan is of great interest to me. I am not surprised that Elcadan is somewhat lacking in their support. They are self-interested and self-serving. I wish you luck in changing their attitudes." Validar starts to say more, but catches himself. This is a time to enjoy their fleeting time together, not rail on about the evil that encompases Elcadan.

“Also, my travels take me most everywhere in the Kingdom these days. Are there any private messages you wish for me to pass along? Perhaps to your parents?”

"That is most considerate of you. I will prepare a message to my parents to inform them of what has been happening with me since I departed. I would also like to leave word with my old allies the Seekers that I do not seem to be able to return to them anytime soon, and to Lady Vera that we will soon be moving to free Ardelphia and Stone Ridge."

"Be safe on your travels, my lady. I eagerly await our next encounter."

"Indeed it already has been that and more," Validar says, returning Gabriella's smile.

All above retconned as noted in main post.

With the King:
Near midday, the King summons Sir Acerion, Sir Corley, and Sir Validar.

“Well met, my knights! While we spoke about a great many things these last few days, there is something that I have overlooked. Right now you are all most valuable to me out on the field, on the front lines of battles against our enemies. But that will not always be the case. One day the time will come for you to withdraw from the field of battle to take up more administrative roles. I am curious at roles you are interested in fulfilling in the years to come.”

"In truth, my liege, I have given much thought to plans for myself in the future. At the same time it is difficult to say for certain what opportunities will present themselves, as the Kingom seems to be in very changing times. I believe I would be a just ruler over as much territory as you would deem appropriate. I will stand in the defense of Cynalon to my dying day. I have been bred for battle and strength of arms and for leading my men and my citizens in war and also in peace."

"I also would have some interest in helping to develop stronger ties with the Zakharian people and bring our Kingdoms closer together. I will do my best with all my strength and all my will to perform the tasks that you require of me, my King."

The noble warrior will see off Lady Gabriella if she and the King have not been delayed in their departure. He will be a bit more formal in his goodbyes, kissing her hand, though the gesture lingers a bit more than is customary. If they are not departing before the dinner due to some delay, then Sir Validar will be most pleased to have Gabriella accompany him to the dinner that evening.

Gabby would be going to the dinner now.

After the meeting Farian will greet his fellow companions with a firm handshake, afterward he will then ask Grondar, Aria and Rat, “I’m a bit parched…. Would you care to join me for a round of Ale?” hoping that he can get to know them a little better.

"I'd be happy to, Farian. Perhaps we can exchange some thoughts and ideas regarding our work to come in Hammerfall, Thunderdelve, and elsewhere. Also, perhaps you and Aria will join me for some devotions in the morning to honor the gods who keep watch over us..."
A smile comes to the black-garbed dwarf as both Aria and Grondar agree to after-meeting drinks. “Perhaps we should. It would do us well to know each other's views and tendencies toward freeing our homeland. Grondar’s second invitation somewhat worries the dwarf, “I have never been one to be discourteous to the gods but sadly I have not honored them in some time. They seem to leave me alone and I am fine with such things.”
"Well met, Farian", Sir Corley will say offering his hand. "May our mission meet with great success."
Taking Corley’s hand in a warrior's grip, Farian smiles, “With the stories I have heard of your company, I do not doubt it.”
Validar wrote;
"I would still like to clear out level 3 as quickly as possible. That is the key to moving about the place. Also the upper areas are small and likely easy to hold, but closing the gates and securing them is clearly one of the most important steps in our mission. The undead complicate the task, however, we should be able to destroy them as we advance and unless there is a concerted counter-attack organized by some leader, then they should be trying to avoid us, especially knowing Ivy's capabilities."
“If it comes to that, I should be able to slip past the enemy force and lower the gates, with relative ease.” He states without a hint of arrogance. “After all, most creatures cannot hit what they cannot see.”

Acerion:

Although she had intended to not to be present during the strategy sessions, Ivy will pop in for a brief moment.

“I thought I would let you know about the abilities I possess as an Undead Hunter. I am resistant to most of the baneful affects that undead can cause to a victim, and I can, with concentration, even sense their presence, much like Sir Acerion is in tune with evil.”

Acerion can not help but smile upon Ivy's entrance. It is good to see her up and about once more, and full of determination against the hated undead as well.

Sir Corley cannot help but smile at the fair Ivy's comments. "Perhaps a change in plans may be needed here. Perhaps Lady Ivy should lead the way while Sir Acerion covers her!"

"That may be a bit much, however, Ivy and Acerion's group will be the point in this case. They are the best suited for not only locating the enemy, but destroying them the most quickly."

"Truly I do not wish to get in her way should any foul undead rear their heads," Acerion says with a chuckle. "We will quickly destroy anything in our path, of that you can be certain Validar."

Validar will also ask Sir Acerion to step aside briefly. "You asked me if I was troubled before, and in truth I am not, not any more than normal anyway. However, you seem unnaturally on edge lately. Is there something you wish to talk about, my friend?"

"I believe it is just a matter of the times we find ourselves in," Acerion finally replies. "That, and truly how mortal all of our friends are. I think it really hit when we nearly lost three of our number this past engagement. That, coupled with my feelings for Ivy, hit me harder than I believe I realized. Now I find myself wishing for more time for all of us, but our duties and dire need to the kingdom will not allow for it."

Realizing he's started on a lengthy topic, Acerion interupts himself, "I apologize for the length of this, my friend, but it does seem I've had things needing to be said. All the time I spent preparing myself and questing to become a paladin, I really never gave any thought to whether death would claim anyone. I knew in my abilities, and faith in Heironeous, that I would survive, and there was no one accompanying me to be concerned over. Additionally, when we first came together we did not see any serious casualties on our side. Now with not just one, but three, so close together, it was quite a blow. Still, we were triumphant and were able to save our friends, and that is what ultimately matters most."

Giving another pause, Acerion continues, "On top of all of this, Ivy told me something that she could not have, something about or from my father. You will understand that for her to have done so is quite nearly impossible, unless something happened while she lay upon death's door. I do not know whether it is delusion or a genuine contact. She seemingly can not provide more information, although truthfully I did not pry. It would seem to me that if my father were able to get in touch with me, especially if there was need, he would do so directly, so that is troubling as well."

"Thank you for your ear, my friend," Acerion will finally say. "I do need to take care of a few things in preperation for my evening with Ivy. It has been far too long since we have had any time together for just ourselves. I hear the other lords will be leaving in the morning, and I plan to see them off. Have a pleasant evening." Acerion will clasp wrists with Validar before departing.

“Of course, Sir Acerion. I would be honored. I haven’t seen you much this day and wondered where you have been. Are you well?”

"I am well overall, my lady," Acerion replies, "but I will tell you all tonight. You will fill my thoughts until that hour."

Acerion quickly makes his way through the keep, checking with various individuals to make sure all is set in preperation for the evening's meal with Ivy. He will make sure he looks his best for her. When the appointed time comes, he gallantly meets her and escorts her to their dining area.

As the meal is winding down, Acerion talks to her in a more serious tone, different from the light and pleasant conversation they had during the meal. "Ivy, I praise the gods of good that you and the others were saved and are all healthy and fit once more. It was a demanding day for all of us, and it is because of that trial that I no longer can keep my feelings hidden."

Moving from his seat, Acerion kneels before Ivy, presenting a rectangular box in his extended hand. Upon opening it, she will see a pendant of gold and silver, simple yet elegant in design, of overlapping ivy leaves tapering down to a point similar to an arrowhead. The pendant hangs from a golden chain, delicate in appearance, yet of sturdy craftsmanship.

"Ivy, you are the world to me," Acerion says. "I wish for us to be together for eternity. I would be forever honored if you would consider this, regardless of your final decision. Will you marry me?"

The rest of the evening will greatly depend on Ivy's ultimate answer. If she accepts, or at least considers it in a positive manner, Acerion will continue, "I wish for us to have a proper ceremony, and would very much like my family to be in attendance. I also wish for it to be upon reclaiming my homeland, as a symbol of rebirth and renewal for the people there as well as a new time for us. It is a lot to ask, and if you are in agreeance, then the blessed day will be a long time from now. I could not, however, wait any longer to tell you of what I feel and what my desires are."

The conversation will last assuredly long into the night, of which Acerion will savor every minute spent with Ivy. If the outcome is positive, he will say goodnight to her with a soft kiss upon her lips.

After seeing the departing lords and ladies of the following morning, Acerion soon receives another summons from the king. It is a conversation Acerion had not expected to have, especially with the plans revealed to Ivy just the night prior.

After Validar, Acerion will reply, "I too have given much thought on possible future plans, my king. It is my goal to reclaim the lands that my family and our people were driven from. It would honor me greatly if you deemed it worthy of me to help restore rulership and peace to those lands, and fortify them against all of our enemies, once we have cleansed them of the foul taint they are currently under. It will always be an honor to take the field for you in whatever manner my services are needed, but to one day rule over the lands of my birth would be a great appointment to have achieved."

That evening, the Guardians have their little gathering. The food is wonderful and Lyonessa’s ballad is awe-inspiring. The evening ends much too soon and the group’s departure the following morning looms large.

Acerion accompanies Ivy to the gathering. He will warmly greet all his friends and companions, and sit back and enjoy Lyonessa's ballad. She is truly amazing, and Acerion can feel his confidence swelling for their upcoming task merely by listening to her stirring words.

As the evening dies down, Acerion escorts Ivy back to her room after taking a walk through the keep. He enjoys every minute with her, knowing the coming morning will bring them to danger once more. "Sleep well, my lady. I rush to my dreams in hopes to meet you there," he will say as he kisses her goodnight.

Chareos

Chareos makes his way to the courtyard merely wandering about and enjoying the chill in the air. Later on in the day Chareos meets up with Lyonessa and the others in the party detail and begins work on whatever Lyonessa needs the young man to do.

Finally after a few hours work the feast is completed and his comrades gathered. Chareos sits and listens to Lyonessa’s ballad in silence, where his smile widens as he becomes more engrossed. Her music touches him so that he has no worries at all. He wishes that times like these could last forever but sadly he knows it will come to an end soon enough.

Chareos will ask Sherra or Argent if they would care to dance, even though the young man is not skilled in the art. “It is a fine party and I was wondering if you would honor me in a dance?” Chareos will do his best not to step on anyone’s feet.

Later on Chareos will excuse himself and retire soon after the party came to a close, after studying his spell book.

Plans...

Sir Validar -

Sir Corley cannot help but smile at the fair Ivy's comments. "Perhaps a change in plans may be needed here. Perhaps Lady Ivy should lead the way while Sir Acerion covers her!"

"That may be a bit much, however, Ivy and Acerion's group will be the point in this case. They are the best suited for not only locating the enemy, but destroying them the most quickly."

"Truly I do not wish to get in her way should any foul undead rear their heads," Acerion says with a chuckle. "We will quickly destroy anything in our path, of that you can be certain Validar."

"I have no doubt, my friend. The main force of the undead should be easy for us to destroy, it is only a matter of the special undead or leaders that we may have some difficulty with. In any case I wish to bring combat to them as quickly as possible and end their infestation of the Fort."

"The actual gate raising and lowering area is here," Validar says, indicating the center of level 2. "So that is where we need to get to to lower the series of gates. Also, there are 4 stone blocks in each series of gates. As they generally take several normal men to manuever the block and tackle system to raise or lower them, it would take someone with magically enhanced strength I believe to be able to manage it solely. Do you have such ability, Farian Silverpike?"

Validar talks with Acerion about anything that may be bothering him, since while he does not seem out of sorts, he does seem to have something serious on his mind. Sir Acerion explains his thoughts about mortality and the sudden near loss of members of the group.

"In truth I cannot truly share your consternation over the near death of our friends. It is not a matter of concern on my part, more a matter of perspective. I find myself more elated that we have not had any casualties."

"In the Seekers, we lost our first member in our first battle and adventurers were dropping regularly. We seemed to be unable to complete any combat or mission without some casualties. And before that I lead troops in the Frontier in combat with humanoid armies and we lost many men there in bloody combat as well."

"We lost close friends and some who were little more than strangers, but still comrades at arms. However, in the combat that I originally 'died' we lost several friends and close people. One in particular it took me several months to get over, so I understand your concerns where the priestess Ivy is concerned."

"You seem to be speaking in some sort of riddle, my friend." Validar is certain that there is somethin more to Acerion's story than he is telling but he is not going to pry unnecessarily. Clearly there are some unusual situations surrounding the paladin based on things that have happened and some comments made since they've met. "If your father was able to contact you directly, why would contact with Ivy necessitate that she be at death's door? I can imagine such a possibility existing, but it clearly is not logical, at least based on what I know."

"Think nothing of it. I am always available for further discussions," Validar responds. "And I understand your desire to be with your woman, as I have a similar desire and similar plans this evening as well with my Gabriella," Validar adds, while exchanging the handshake and adding a quick wink and smile.

After the strategy session and conversations, Validar will seek out Argent, since she was not at the meeting and let her know that we are going to be needing a Shelter spell for the first evening in the fortress at the minimum and possibly to plan until we receive our first batch of reinforcements in three days.

We will be certain to take our mounts with us as it appears that we could be at Fletcher for some time and I for one do not wish to leave my own with strangers for possiby several months. If posible it would be ideal to have them brought with the reinforcements so that we can take them straight to the stables, but if not, then we shall manage.

Validar enjoys the feast and the ballad from Lyonessa, but there are a few brief moments through the evening when he seems to be somewhere far away from here, lost in thought. Still he is generally talkative and pleasant throughout.

After the festivities have broken down, Validar will once again walk the ramparts of the fortress, a heavy cloak shroading him from the wind and cold. He stops at one of the walls, facing to the southwest and gazes off as if looking for something in the darkness.

His thoughts are varied, covering the recent battles they faced here, the pride of now being a Knight of Cynalon, the battles to come at Fort Fletcher and Ardelphia, and of course, the vision of loveliness that always seems to be at the edge of his mind.

Validar returns to his room and sleeps well, then rises early to prepare for the trip to Fort Fletcher.

More retconning above. Gabriella did not leave with the King for reasons noted previously. So she is not only at the Guardians' dinner, they have plans to actually spend the night together. (No not like that, go read the end of Echoes of Summer Past.

One in particular it took me several months to get over, so I understand your concerns where the priestess Ivy is concerned."

"I did not expect you to find yourself suddenly concerned," Acerion explains. "I was merely voicing things that you were inquiring about upon seeing me struggling with something. Our experiences have been drastically different. You have seemingly led men into battle from an early age, where I would imagine you were able to blunt the impact of a person's death as a neccessity pretty early on. I, however, hardly even saw another man in the years of my questing to become a paladin, let alone seen scores of them die."

"I do however disagree with you on one point," Acerion continues. "Every one of our members that did drop in those fights I consider a casualty. The fact that they were not permanent casualties is source for elation. However, we did not have Ivy's healing and protective magics, Lyonessa's morale boosting and spell casting skills, nor Corley's strength and sword when each fell. We did manage to win even with such losses, but they were indeed losses."

"Indeed I seem to be," Acerion admits. "My father is not of this plane and, to my knowledge, would be able to speak with me directly, albeit with a little effort. It leads me to believe then, that something is going on beyond our, or at least my, perceptions if he can not, in fact, contact me. I remain uncertain about whether or not to be concerned over this given I do not have complete information."

Continuing, Acerion adds, "Whether there was some advantage to having Ivy hovering so close to death that he could exploit remains a mystery. He would have to know her and my closeness to one another in order to do so, which means he can see or sense me to some degree. Maybe only communication is impossible. As I have said, I am without all the facts, and is cause for part of my demeanor you have observed."

"Think nothing of it. I am always available for further discussions," Validar responds. "And I understand your desire to be with your woman, as I have a similar desire and similar plans this evening as well with the Lady Allonica," Validar adds, while exchanging the handshake and adding a quick wink and smile.

"Then a pleasant evening to both you and the Lady Allonica," Acerion replies, smiling. "It pleases me that the two of you are clearly happy together."

an interlude..

Sherra:

Sherra will probably arrive with Argent after they finish up more training with the use of a bow. The meal is quite delicious and Lyonessa's words and music are breath-taking.
That evening, the Guardians have their little gathering. The food is wonderful and Lyonessa’s ballad is awe-inspiring. The evening ends much too soon and the group’s departure the following morning looms large.

Chareos will ask Sherra or Argent if they would care to dance, even though the young man is not skilled in the art. “It is a fine party and I was wondering if you would honor me in a dance?” Chareos will do his best not to step on anyone’s feet.
"Of course Chareos," Sherra will respond as she stands and gives him a warm smile. "That is unless the Lady Argent wants you all to herself," giving Argent a knowing glance between women.

Finding a good spot to dance, Sherra looks over to see if Yusef is in attendance, eyes lingering on him for a second before turning her attention back to Chareos.

"This is not the kind of dancing I am used to, I must admit," Sherra tells Chareos. "It is less rowdy than what you would find on the deck of a ship attended by drunken sailors, but I'm sure we can make due with what we have."

The rest of the night depends on a number of things, but Sherra will find time to resupply her arrows and inquire if there are any stores of magical shafts available as hers are nearly depleted. If she finds herself with any remaining time, she will find a good secluded spot on the walls and take in the night for a time before retiring.

Sir Validar -

"Perhaps you misunderstood me slightly, my friend. I wasn't saying that I wasn't concerned about our friends, only that having seen some many friends and comrades fall that their being fine now has me thinking about the fact that they are alive, not that they were temporarily killed. To me, it is a great thing that we have yet to have a permanent casualty and I am pleased to have avoided even one memorial. For one who has died themselves already, I see a casualty as one who is lost to us permanently. As I said, we have a very different perspective and I certainly understand your feelings, if from a different frame of reference."

"This is a glorious time for the kingdom and for those heroes who are active in her rebirth. And certainly while the business of the King conspires against some of our personal desires, you do have the luxury of sharing the adventures and the danger with your love. Some of us are denied that luxury nearly competely, at least until these next missions are completed."

"I do not know the closeness you have with your father, Sir Acerion, but it appears that you have not had contact with him for some time. Perhaps he is unable to contact for other than the obvious reasons. And perhaps he simply chose not to contact you at this time. If she did not know about this message then it is possible that it simply is not time for you to know."

"I am not one to purport to know everything about the gods and their ideas and what happens to one when they die. I was laid low and simply found myself awake in a field with my armor shining brightly and a new warhorse nearby, while the Seekers claimed to have buried me with the others who fell that day. I have no memory of anything that happened to me between those moments. That is not to say that nothing happened. So what Ivy and Lyonessa experienced are truly unknown unless they somehow remember."

"There are many stories of what happens to those that have died. Unfortunately very few have much to tell even when they are recovered. Have you considered asking a priest to try and contact your father on this other plane? Certainly being without the whole story is a potential for extreme consternation."

"It pleases me that the two of you are clearly so happy together."

"Thank you. And a pleasant evening to you and Ivy as well. Indeed there is a powerful connection between Gabriella and I. We spent much time together in Gateway after the lifting of the siege. And when I was unexpectedly called back to Pyris, I only had the time to send her a message expressing my regret for being away."

"Remarkably, she followed me to Pyris, but this time she was forced to depart before I could return there. Now we the chance to make up for time lost. As I am sure that you will as well. Give my best to Ivy."

Argent:
Sir Validar wrote:"I have no doubt in your abilities, milady," Validar answers, using Argent new title. "I do indeed plan on inviting Lady Gabriella. If there are any other friends of the group here in the city, they are welcome to attend as well. However, with Sherwood's group gone and many of the nobles leaving in the morning, it will pretty much be just us."
“Very well,” Argent responds. “I just needed to know how much food we were going to be needing.”
Validar wrote:After the strategy session and conversations, Validar will seek out Argent, since she was not at the meeting and let her know that we are going to be needing a Shelter spell for the first evening in the fortress at the minimum and possibly to plan until we receive our first batch of reinforcements in three days.
“Ah, thank you for bringing that to my attention. I hadn’t planned on carrying that spell, although Chareos might be. I’ll adjust it tonight.”

Argent will drop her Halo of Eyes spell for Secure Shelter.

That evening, the Guardians have their little gathering. The food is wonderful and Lyonessa's ballad is awe-inspiring. The evening ends much too soon and the group's departure the following morning looms large.
Argent spends much of the afternoon overseeing the cooking the kitchen before departing to her chamber to freshen up before the event. She’ll don her best dress and will even break out her tiara.
Chareos & Sherra wrote:Chareos will ask Sherra or Argent if they would care to dance, even though the young man is not skilled in the art.

“Go on ahead,” Argent says with a smile. “I’ll wait for the next dance.”

Ivy:
Sir Acerion wrote:"I am well overall, my lady," Acerion replies, "but I will tell you all tonight. You will fill my thoughts until that hour."
“I am glad to hear that,” Ivy says upon learning that Acerion is well. “I guess I will see you later on tonight then.”

Still unsure about what is going on, Ivy will try to relax that afternoon. She’ll try to clean up as best she can and wear her cleanest priestess robes. Finally the time comes and Sir Acerion is at her door. Ivy is then led off to another portion of the fortress.

Sir Acerion wrote:As the meal is winding down, Acerion talks to her in a more serious tone, different from the light and pleasant conversation they had during the meal.

Upon opening it, she will see a pendant of gold and silver; simple yet elegant in design, of overlapping ivy leaves tapering down to a point similar to an arrowhead. The pendant hangs from a golden chain, delicate in appearance, yet of sturdy craftsmanship.
“It’s lovely,’ Ivy says when she sees the contents of the box.
Sir Acerion wrote:"Ivy, you are the world to me," Acerion says. "I wish for us to be together for eternity. I would be forever honored if you would consider this, regardless of your final decision. Will you marry me?"
Ivy is speechless for a few moments, even though she suspected where Sir Acerion’s recent behavior was leading up to. “I am not sure if I am worthy for such a thing, but I wish to be together with you too. I find the prospect of our being apart unpleasant. If you will have me, then yes, I will marry you.”
Sir Acerion wrote:The rest of the evening will greatly depend on Ivy's ultimate answer.
“I understand your reasoning,” Ivy says softly. “That my very well be a long time off, but I shall wait. How large of a family do you have?”
Sir Acerion wrote:Acerion accompanies Ivy to the gathering. He will warmly greet all his friends and companions, and sit back and enjoy Lyonessa's ballad. She is truly amazing, and Acerion can feel his confidence swelling for their upcoming task merely by listening to her stirring words.
When the time for the gathering comes, Ivy will be ready. She proudly wears her new pendant along with her holy symbol. She’ll assume that Sir Acerion will make the announcement of the engagement to everyone else.
Sir Acerion wrote:As the evening dies down, Acerion escorts Ivy back to her room after taking a walk through the keep. He enjoys every minute with her, knowing the coming morning will bring them to danger once more. "Sleep well, my lady. I rush to my dreams in hopes to meet you there," he will say as he kisses her goodnight.
“Until the morning, my love,” Ivy says as the pair departs for the evening.

Sir Corley

Post by Corley »

Corley:
Lord Chareos wrote:"I just need a moment of your time, my friends. During the battle beneath the earth I have come to the conclusion that a quarterstaff is not always the best weapon to use. After much thought, I figured it would be best to learn how to a different weapon, perhaps a sword.

I know our time here is short but would you be willing to teach me the basics of swordsmanship; if I were to acquire a sword?"
"Of course, Lord Chareos! I would be honored to pass down what I know about the use of blades! Sir Validar here is my superior when it comes to the long sword, but you will find that I am the master when it comes to the two-handed sword. I am also familiar with the use of the broadsword."

Yusef wrote:During the evening, Yusef stumbles upon Sir Corley, who seems to be enjoying the night air on one of the battlements at the moment. Approaching, he gives a bow to the large warrior. "Greetings, Sir Corley, I hope I am not intruding. A fine night, is it not? It seems we will be traveling and fighting together soon, and yet we just met. Would you care to tell me more of the road you traveled to reach this point in your life?"
"Well met and no, you were not intruding." Sir Corley will say in greeting. "Ah, you must be Yusef, the Priest of Celestian that I've heard will be joining with us. I bid you welcome to our adventuring band. My thoughts were simply wandering to pass the time.”

Sir Corley pauses for a moment to collect his thoughts. “There’s really not much to tell. I am the youngest son of General Logan Rowan, commander of the Kings forces in Gateway. I have two older brothers, both who serve the kingdom in different capacities.”

“I’ve known Sir Validar since we were both children. My mother spent much time at Castle Pyris while my father was off on campaigns. I recently joined forces with Sir Validar when his father was stricken with an unknown malady. I’ve been with the group since that time.”

“What about you, my new friend? What is your story?”

Lady Teris wrote:"We'll keep a lantern lit for you, Sir Corley," Lady Teris says with a smile. "Don't keep us waiting long. Fort Runnels is not shaping up to be an enjoyable assignment and we'll probably be desperate for the company."
“I will endeavor to reach Fort Runnels as quickly as I can, milady. I would be bad form to leave a damsel in such distress for too long a time!”

The King wrote:"Well met, my knights! While we spoke about a great many things these last few days, there is something that I have overlooked. Right now you are all most valuable to me out on the field, on the front lines of battles against our enemies. But that will not always be the case. One day the time will come for you to withdraw from the field of battle to take up more administrative roles. I am curious at roles you are interested in fulfilling in the years to come."
After his fellow knights have given their thoughts, Sir Corley speaks. “Alas, unlike my comrades, I fear that I haven’t given much though as to the course of my future. I am not sure if rulership is for me, but I do know that I will serve in whatever capacity you desire, my king.”

That even, Sir Corley enjoys the fine food created by Lady Argent and the marvelous ballad composed by Lady Lyonessa. Seeing Lord Chareos and Lady Sherra starting to dance, Sir Corley decides to join in. He steps up to the lovely Lady Argent.

“Milady, would you do me the honor of joining me for a dance?”

If she accepts, Sir Corley will lead her out to the dance floor. It quickly becomes apparent that Sir Corley is skilled in this sort of dancing.

Aria:
Grondar smiles calmly. "I'm not, but I may worry for your sake. Our gods are as powerful and important to us as any; neglecting them may not be in best interest of even a fine warrior such as yourself."
“I am neglecting no one, Grondar. My family follows the teachings of Clangeddin Silverbeard, the Father of Battle. War is the finest hour of dwarvenkind and it is there where I honor Clangeddin.”
Farian wrote:A smile comes to the black-garbed dwarf as both Aria and Grondar agree to after-meeting drinks. "Perhaps we should. It would do us well to know each other's views and tendencies toward freeing our homeland. Grondar's second invitation somewhat worries the dwarf, "I have never been one to be discourteous to the gods but sadly I have not honored them in some time. They seem to leave me alone and I am fine with such things."
“I was unaware that you’re family hailed from this region,” Aria states. “I had assumed that they came from Rockhome like the rest of us. The situation is simple. The humans overextended themselves in a war and were no longer able to defend this region. The scum to the north took advantage and overran the area, driving our ancestors out. We’re now going to take them back.”

“Hammerfall is without a doubt the largest such holding in this area. The legendary Glory Hole Mine is no doubt the most important. Sprinkled in are minor towns and villages and small mining communities such as Thunderdelve, Krypthome, and others.”

Chareos
"Of course Chareos," Sherra will respond as she stands and gives him a warm smile. "That is unless the Lady Argent wants you all to herself," giving Argent a knowing glance between women.

Finding a good spot to dance, Sherra looks over to see if Yusef is in attendance, eyes lingering on him for a second before turning her attention back to Chareos.
A smiles etches its way across Chareos features as Sherra raises and agrees to dance. Chareos hears the words spoke and replies within his head. One could only be so lucky in love.

He notices the raven haired women glance to his side then quickly return. He can only wonder what has captivated her so. (if Yusef is there)
Upon dancing about Chareos’ wonder is soon proved as the Priest of Celestain is spotted.
"This is not the kind of dancing I am used to, I must admit," Sherra tells Chareos. "It is less rowdy than what you would find on the deck of a ship attended by drunken sailors, but I'm sure we can make due with what we have."
“I must admit, nor am I. Dancing is not one of my stronger points.” he says with a smile then lets out a laugh as Sherra explains what she is used to. “One can only imagine what life is like at sea. I am sure it is enjoyable in its own right.”

As the dance is concluded, “I thank you for the Dance Milady, I am sorry I am not more skilled as Lord Corley but we have to make due.” he retorts playfully.

Later on in the evening, Chareos approaches Yusef and merely says in hushed tones, “If I can be so bold;
I think you have an admirer, my friend.” casting his gaze to Sherra when she is not looking. Patting the priest on the shoulder Chareos takes his leave.
"Of course, Lord Chareos! I would be honored to pass down what I know about the use of blades! Sir Validar here is my superior when it comes to the long sword, but you will find that I am the master when it comes to the two-handed sword. I am also familiar with the use of the broadsword."
Chareos is still not used to his title and it takes him a moment to get used to it. “Then perhaps you would do me the honor of being your student. If time permits I would wish to learn of all three weapons, so I can better defend myself and my people.

If I am to become half as skilled as either of you I would be content! For you both are formidable men in battle.”
To serve and protect those who cannot.

Farian

"The actual gate raising and lowering area is here," Validar says, indicating the center of level 2. "So that is where we need to get to to lower the series of gates. Also, there are 4 stone blocks in each series of gates. As they generally take several normal men to manuever the block and tackle system to raise or lower them, it would take someone with magically enhanced strength I believe to be able to manage it solely. Do you have such ability, Farian Silverpike?"

“I can hold my own,” he says somewhat defensively, ”Though, I was not blessed in such ways of you speak.. “ realizing the words were not harmful, his smile soon returns, “Alas, my abilities lay more within the realms of Shadow and stealth.”

“Hammerfall is without a doubt the largest such holding in this area. The legendary Glory Hole Mine is no doubt the most important. Sprinkled in are minor towns and villages and small mining communities such as Thunderdelve, Krypthome, and others.”

“Oh but I am, It was merely a slip of words ye see. I meant our people, as in the dwarves whom were driven from these lands.” he says assuringly, “It will be a fine day when we drive their bottom feeding behinds from our Great Halls!!”

"Yes, that is I. And thank you, I look forward to travelling new roads with this well-regarded band."
Corley wrote:Sir Corley pauses for a moment to collect his thoughts.

"I'm sorry, but you are mistaken, Sir Corley. That is very much to tell, and I suspect there is far more to it than you have told. I can see where it might be daunting to be the son of a General, though, as well as the childhood friend of the renowned Sir Validar. Speaking of whom, has his father recovered? Is he in need of assistance?"
Corley wrote:“What about you, my new friend? What is your story?”

"In truth, I am new to the outside world. My mother was taken from a caravan in her family's lands and sold into slavery. The man who bought her - and fathered me upon her - is in the lineage of one of the oldest and most corrupt merchant families in Elcadan. As his son, I had a little more freedom and was treated a little better than most of the other slaves. I was able to use that freedom to escape some years ago. I wandered for a while, searching for some purpose and meaning to my life. Eventually, I stumbled upon a monastery dedicated to Celestian. I joined the brotherhood there and was trained as one of their wandering monks. Little more than a week ago, I chanced upon Lord Sherwood and his small band down near the town of Rifflian. We travelled the same road until reaching this place. And now, it seems, I travel a different road..."

Though he really doesn't feel like he is a part of this new group yet, Yusef attends the celebration. Perhaps it will be an opportunity to get to know these people better. It is likely that they will soon be fighting side by side, and any bonds between them will make that more bearable.

He has no fancy clothes, but Yusef makes sure that those he wears are clean and in good repair. His hair is oiled and braided, each braid bound by a small metal ring at the end.

Though it is different than the food that Kylie had prepared during their journey, this food is nevertheless delightful. The lady named Argent - and those who helped her - has done a fine job indeed. Some parts are a bit heavier than he prefers, so he eats sparingly of those. Still, the rest is plenty to satiate his appetite. As he eats, Yusef chats amiably with those seated around him.

Afterwards, Lyonessa entertains them by performing her ballad. Yusef listens closely as he sips at his wine; the story is quite enervating, and captivatingly told. Her voice is beautiful, reminding him of one of the slaves in his father's house.

Following the ballad, music is provided and some of his new companions turn their attentions to dancing. While he has seen dancers before, as a slave - even if the son of the owner - he was never taught to dance himself. Admittedly, it has always looked like fun, and a few of the steps he sees here are familiar.
Sherra wrote:Finding a good spot to dance, Sherra looks over to see if Yusef is in attendance, eyes lingering on him for a second before turning her attention back to Chareos.
Noting the look from the beautiful young woman, Yusef finds himself surprised by the attention. Perhaps she is just intrigued by his strange appearance. Still, he nods, smiles and raises his glass in her direction.
Chareos wrote:Later on in the evening, Chareos approaches Yusef and merely says in hushed tones, “If I can be so bold;

"Truly? You think so?" Yusef replies in wonder, noting whom Chareos indicates. "I could not possible be so blessed a man as that." In truth, she had been friendly earlier, but he had just assumed that such was her nature. Perhaps he was too quick to assume that these eastern women would have no interest in him...

Later, when she is not otherwise occupied, Yusef approaches Sherra. "Excuse me, Lady Sherra. I couldn't help noticing your skill in the dance. Do you think you might take pity on a man such as I and teach me something of this dance? I'm afraid that it is a skill that I was never introduced to."

Lyonessa:

Lyonessa is pleased by the way the meal turns out. She sees all of her friends talking, and notices Ivy and Sir Acerion's closeness. She can't help but smile that they finally had some time together.

The time comes for her performance, and she plays a soft melody as she tells her ballad. Filled with many of the highs and low of the entire battle for Corunglain above and below ground, many of the things she describes she wasn't present for. Having to rely on what others could tell her in many parts, she keeps the whole telling as if in a dreamlike state. One where exact details need not be given for the general feel of the whole ballad to be understood.

It is well received from all she can tell, and nothing pleases Lyonessa more. As the final chords are being strummed, she notices first Chareos, then Sir Corley get up to ask Sherra and Argent to dance. Lyonessa smiles and breaks into appropriate songs, some with vocals, most without, to allow those who wish to dance to do so. She keeps the tunes upbeat and simple, unless she sees need for slower, more romantic music, in which she will also provide. Oh, Laucian, if only you had time to stay for another two nights she thinks to herself.

Lyonessa will stay behind to make sure everything is taken care of, assisting in cleaning up before heading to her shared quarters. She will give a prayer to Mystra and settle in for the night's rest. She knows the next morning will be demanding of them all once more.
My voice, my will, my magic - three blessings bestowed by Mystra that spell your doom

Aria wrote:“I am neglecting no one, Grondar. My family follows the teachings of Clangeddin Silverbeard, the Father of Battle. War is the finest hour of dwarvenkind and it is there where I honor Clangeddin.”

Grondar bows in acquiesence. "As you say, there are many ways to honor the gods. No doubt Clangeddin appreciates your veneration."
Farian wrote:A smile comes to the black-garbed dwarf as both Aria and Grondar agree to after-meeting drinks.
"It is of course your choice, but know that the gods honor most those who honor them. Of course as the good lady Aria here has implied, there are many ways to honor the gods. Still, the invitation is open, but now and in the future."
Aria wrote:“Hammerfall is without a doubt the largest such holding in this area. The legendary Glory Hole Mine is no doubt the most important. Sprinkled in are minor towns and villages and small mining communities such as Thunderdelve, Krypthome, and others.”
Aria's words cause Grondar's eyes to light up. "You know of Thunderdelve, milady? Not long past I met an ancient dwarf who claimed to have lived there at one time. No other that I have asked had ever heard of the place - in fact, most seemed to think him senile. Nevertheless, I promised him that I would do my best to find and cleanse the place. If we can do so, it would mean the world to him. He gave me directions to finding those halls, so perhaps that will help."

Eventually the planning meeting ends, and there is some free time before the evening's celebration. As he will have time before bed and in the morning for devotions, Grondar spends the time practicing with his weapons. Since he uses the mace a lot, he focusses instead on his crossbow and flail. Locating whatever the fort uses as a firing range, Grondar goes through his quiver of bolts several times, firing at the targets and collecting the bolts afterwards. He then turns to the practice dummies and flails away at them for awhile; he's determined to get the feel of this new weapon eventually. Grondar considers practicing with his staff, but it is really to valuable to risk breaking it, and the time for the feast is fast approaching.

Grondar returns to his quarters to wash up and change. When he arrives at the celebration, he is wearing clean priestly raiment, sans armor. Looking about, he notes that everyone appears to have come, including Yusef, which pleases him greatly. In particular, he makes certain to greet his dwarven comrades, Aria and Farian. If the opportunity is available, he will sit by the lady Aria.

Not surprisingly, the food is excellent and plentiful, though Grondar eats in moderation. As he nears the completion of his meal, Grondar rises and raises his ale cup to Argent. "A wonderful meal, Lady Argent! Blessings upon you and your house."

Not long afterward, Lyonessa begins her ballad of the fight for Corunglain, of which they were so recently a part. The elven bard paints a vivid picture of the entire encounter, even parts that she could not possibly have been present for. Grondar assumes that she must have talked with others who participated in different areas for their take on the battle. Very thorough, indeed. By time she is finished, Grondar feels very proud to have participated in this momentus conflict.

After the ballad, Lyonessa shifts to dancing music, to which many in attendance respond. Not much of a dancer himself, and being a dwarf, it's not a big part of their culture anyway, so he remains at the table discussing issues of interest with his fellow dwarves. He does note his friend Sherra dancing with the others; it is good to see his friend having an enjoyable time. The coming days are likely to be far more grim than these. Sir Corley proves to be quite skilled, something of a surprise for so large a warrior.

Before bed and again in the morning, Grondar will see to his devotions, whether Aria or Farian join him or not. As part of his morning prayers, he selects his spells for the day, with thanks to Berronar for casting her blessings on him.

Grondar wrote:Not surprisingly, the food is excellent and plentiful, though Grondar eats in moderation. As he nears the completion of his meal, Grondar rises and raises his ale cup to Argent. "A wonderful meal, Lady Argent! Blessings upon you and your house."
“Why thank you, Grondar. What a wonderful thing to say.”

Sir Corley wrote:"Milady, would you do me the honor of joining me for a dance?"
The Invoker is mildly surprised when Sir Corley comes up to her. They haven’t spoken all that much before and he’s seemed somewhat befuddled to her before, but not now. Still, he is quite the handsome man.

“It would be my pleasure, milord. Although I must warn you that I am not well versed at this sort of thing.”
Sir Corley wrote:If she accepts, Sir Corley will lead her out to the dance floor. It quickly becomes apparent that Sir Corley is skilled in this sort of dancing.
Although it turns out to not be much of a problem, as Sir Corley seems to have been trained for this sort of thing. Before too long, Argent is really enjoying the dance and her closeness to the young knight.

“Why, Sir Corley, I believe that you have swept me off my feet! Thank you, so much!”
I am an Invoker of no small power.

dancing the night away..

Post by Sherra »

Sherra:
After the ballad, Lyonessa shifts to dancing music, to which many in attendance respond. Not much of a dancer himself, and being a dwarf, it's not a big part of their culture anyway, so he remains at the table discussing issues of interest with his fellow dwarves. He does note his friend Sherra dancing with the others; it is good to see his friend having an enjoyable time. The coming days are likely to be far more grim than these. Sir Corley proves to be quite skilled, something of a surprise for so large a warrior.
Sherra notes that Grondar is there and a devious smile crosses her face for a second. Ultimately though, she decides not to go and try to drag her dwarven friend out for a dance.

"Life at sea had it's perks, even considering the company I was in," Sherra tells Chareos. "I would love to feel a solid deck of a ocean-bound ship under my feet one day again."

"Thank you for the dance Chareos," Sherra replies after it is ended, giving him a warm hug. "Now if only you can pry Sir Corley away from Argent."
Sherra smiles at Yusef's approach. Listening to his question, she laughs lightly, "I have no real skill for it myself, but there is much you can pick up if you are fleet of foot and climb around the rigging of a ship all your youth. I can teach you the awkwardness that I pass off as dancing if you wish." The last is said with the accompanyment of more laughter.

During the time they are together, Sherra asks Yusef, "So I understand you are a priest. I seem to fit in well with them for some reason, although I do not claim to hold much faith to a particular belief, although I guess a prayer or two to Tymora probably counts to some degree. Grondar and I hit it off rather well and he has taught me a lot of the Dwarven language. So what was the decision you reached to become a priest, if I may ask?"

Acerion:

"This is a glorious time for the kingdom and for those heroes who are active in her rebirth. And certainly while the business of the King conspires against some of our personal desires, you do have the luxury of sharing the adventures and the danger with your love. Some of us are denied that luxury nearly competely, at least until these next missions are completed."

"It can be a luxury or a burden," Acerion replies to Validar. "If something were to happen to one, then it could drastically affect the other so deeply that you would find, in fact, you have lost two members of a group. I believe, in some cases, knowing one you care for and love is out of harm's way is more beneficial, if only to the one in the field."

"There are many stories of what happens to those that have died. Unfortunately very few have much to tell even when they are recovered. Have you considered asking a priest to try and contact your father on this other plane? Certainly being without the whole story is a potential for extreme consternation."

Pausing to consider Validar's words, Acerion finally answers, "In truth I had not given that any thought. Perhaps I shall see if Ivy knows anything further and then possibly take that route if the answer does not present itself in short order."

Acerion beems with joy at Ivy's acceptance. "Your words have eclipsed my joy I had found upon having laid my eyes upon you for the first time, my lady." He stands, scooping her up into his arms to hold her for a long moment as she feels the pounding of his heart.

“I understand your reasoning,” Ivy says softly. “That my very well be a long time off, but I shall wait. How large of a family do you have?”

"My mother and grandmother are in Alexandria," Acerion tells her. "My grandmother has probably convinced someone, somewhere, by now to have raised an army to march back and retake our lands. She can be quite persuasive," Acerion says with obvious mirth.

"My father, well, he is not of this plane," Acerion explains. "When you spoke those words of his love for me while recovering from your wounds, I can only wonder about why you would say such a thing." Acerion doesn't pry further, not wanting to fluster Ivy if she honestly doesn't know.

When the time for the gathering comes, Ivy will be ready. She proudly wears her new pendant along with her holy symbol. She’ll assume that Sir Acerion will make the announcement of the engagement to everyone else.

Acerion smiles at seeing the pendant upon her. It is obvious to all his mood upon joining the gathering. Waiting until after Lyonessa completes her ballad, he will rise at an appropriate moment, calling for attention.

"I would like to share some news with all of you, my friends and companions," Acerion begins. "Thank you to those who brought us together this night, it is a real treat to be in such fine company. I also wish to be the one to tell you that I have proposed to the lady Ivy last night, and to my joy and honor, she has accepted." He will turn and smile at Ivy, taking her hand in his and kissing it.

As others dance, Acerion will wait until a slower song is played by Lyonessa. He will then rise and extend a hand to Ivy after a short bow, "If you would accompany me, my lady, I believe we should share at least one dance."

Nearing the end of our break...

Post by Validar »

Sir Validar -

After the strategy session and conversations, Validar will seek out Argent, since she was not at the meeting and let her know that we are going to be needing a Shelter spell for the first evening in the fortress at the minimum and possibly to plan until we receive our first batch of reinforcements in three days.

“Ah, thank you for bringing that to my attention. I hadn’t planned on carrying that spell, although Chareos might be. I’ll adjust it tonight.”

"Good. I do not know if we will need it, but I think it best that we plan for the necessity. I would rather have it available and not need it, than the alternative."

"While we have drastically different chosen fighting styles, Sir Corley will be a fine teacher of the skills necessary to properly weild any sword, Lord Chareos. I think you will find that your ability to threaten the enemy will increase dramatically with this knowledge."

Chareos is still not used to his title and it takes him a moment to get used to it. “Then perhaps you would do me the honor of being your student. If time permits I would wish to learn of all three weapons, so I can better defend myself and my people. "

If I am to become half as skilled as either of you I would be content! For you both are formidable men in battle.”

"Soon we will all have a chance to test our mettle again. Perhaps in defense of Fort Fletcher and certainly once we take the battle to Ardelphia herself."

"A fine suggestion, Silverpike, but I feel that staying together is more important initially. We will close the gates as soon as we are able and will move as part of a cohesive whole through the fort, securing it as we go."

"I think I would rather have some control over the situation than to be separated, were you to ask me. In any case, I hope we soon see a smile crossing that dire countenance again soon," Validar says, clapping the paladin on the shoulder. "We have survived a terrible, glorious combat with a series of challenging foes, including a red dragon that defied even the mighty Lord Sharadin. We have each member of our group alive and well at the battle's conclusion. The Kingdom is taking a step toward righting itself. You have been made a knight of the realm and you have a beautiful woman to share it all with. I can think of little better."

"Then good luck in your continued search and let me know if I may be of further assistance."

In the morning, Validar is greeted by a messenger as he readies his armor and weapons. He soon finds that the message is one sent by Gabriella. A wide smile graces his face as he reads the words there.

Once finished, he reads it again, this time fingering the ribbon she gave him as a momento of sorts. He lifts it to his nose and closes his eyes, imagining she is near. When he opens his eyes again, Validar can almost feel the lady's presense. He takes the light blue ribbon and ties it carefully around his sword belt several times. This way, he will have it with him at all times.

Gabriella will be there to see him off and gives him the ribbon then.

He will prepare Havok and the other horses for the journey and check on the supplies having been loaded into the Stone Cube. Over the morning meal, Validar will scan the maps of Fort Fletcher again, going over possible avenues of attack, places for the enemy to ambush from or to make a defensive position. He will eat heartily, but somewhat absently as mind is more on the plans than the food.

Once all preparations are made, Validar will await the arrival of Lord Sharadin and then enter the Stone Cube for transport.

Chareos

"Thank you for the dance Chareos," Sherra replies after it is ended, giving him a warm hug. "Now if only you can pry Sir Corley away from Argent."
“It was my pleasure,” returning her hug, he laughs slightly at this and says, “I think I would have better odds wrestling with a dragon then accomplishing that.” he says with an easy smile. He thinks for a few moments torn to say something then decides to anyway, “Besides, I fear she is like a shooting star, Attractive to the behold but elusive to grasp.”
Hearing Acerion speak for attention, Chareos swallows his drink and returns the mug to the table looking at the Paladin in interest perhaps a toast is to be made to friends but he soon finds it is more then that!

Raising his glass with a smile, “May the Gods smile upon you!”

Before the night comes to a close Chareos will thank Lyonessa for her beautiful Ballad, as well as including him in the preprations of the festivities.
To serve and protect those who cannot.

Sir Validar -

Waiting until after Lyonessa completes her ballad, he will rise at an appropriate moment, calling for attention.

"I would like to share some news with all of you, my friends and companions," Acerion begins. "Thank you to those who brought us together this night, it is a real treat to be in such fine company. I also wish to be the one to tell you that I have proposed to the lady Ivy last night, and to my joy and honor, she has accepted." He will turn and smile at Ivy, taking her hand in his and kissing it.

Sir Validar is not surprised when Acerion announces his intentions regarding the priestess Ivy. They clearly had been close of late and certainly the situation with Ivy in the last combat may have intensified those feelings or at the least resulted in an accelerated plan.

While it is a loss of a potential political opportunity, Validar is very pleased for the pair on a personal level. They seem to be a good fit for each other and while it has been a short courtship, it is not unusual for ones in this profession.

Validar will rise from his seat after the announcement has been made. "Come all, let us salute the happy couple," he will say while raising his goblet towards them. "May you find not only happiness and safety in each other's arms, but true completeness with each other for this is the sign of a good and strong marriage. May each of you make the other better for the connection and may you have a stronger love as time passes for surely it is already strong. May you grow continually as your days together pass and may you each have long lives to enjoy your love together."
