Grondar:
Lia wrote:She nods as the dwarf pronounces her name correctly and then says,“You are correct Grondar. It is a pleasure to meet you," she says with a wide smile. "I would not be surprised if you haven’t heard of her for not many have. I am a Bladesinger of the Dark Maiden. She is referred to as that because she hails from the Underdark; she was wrongly accused and later redeemed herself to the Seldarine. Though freed of any wrongdoing she foresaw the need to be a beacon of light if you will, for any race that has lost its way, primarily dark elves, who wish to live in peace and free among the world.
“Hmm… Fascinating. I am well familiar with the dark elves, or drow as they are known by many, but was not aware that one of their goddesses had been redeemed. How did you come by her worship? You don’t look like any drow I’ve ever heard tell of.”
Lia wrote:She soon recites some of her teachings to the dwarf:
“Be always kind, except in battle with evil. Encourage happiness everywhere. Learn and teach new songs, dances, and the flowing dance of skilled swordwork. Promote harmony between the races. Befriend strangers, shelter those without homes, and feed the hungry. Repay rudeness with kindness. Repay violence with swift violence so that those who cause it are quickly dealt with. Aid those drow in distress and give them the Lady’s message: "A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace and live beneath the sun again where trees and flowers grow. These are some of the many teachings of Eilistraee.”
Grondar listens carefully as Lia recites the basics of her patron’s teachings. “Your message falls favorably on my ears, young Lia. Admittedly, I have some difficulty in connecting them with what I know of the dark elves. Still, anyone who follows such principles is one I would gladly call friend.”
Aria wrote:“The Fort blocks the Khyr Pass to the northwest of Ardelphia, so it is not as close as you suspect. The humans say they can get us there quickly. Probably through arcane means, I’d wager. You’d think they’d not put so much trust in magic! Bah!”
“You are correct that it is a fair distance from here, but we have travelled much further already in our adventures, so I’m sure it will be no great hardship.” Grondar smiles when Aria impunes the humans’ magic. “You are a true warrior at heart. Still, I am sure that whatever they devise will accomplish the task sufficiently for us to do what needs to be done.”
Aria wrote:“We depart on the third morning and hopefully I can add some more recruits between now and then. It will be good to be in a proper dwarven city. In the meantime, I need some ale! I’ll be in the dining hall should I be needed.”
“It will be great to be among our own kind once again. I hope you succeed in gathering some dwarven recruits for our task. Please let me know if I can assist in any way. Enjoy your ale; I have some more people I need to speak with, but I will join you there later this evening.”
Talen wrote:“Hello, Grondar,” Talen says when introduced.
“Kylie said your name is Talen? It is good to meet you. So you and Lia are the grandchildren of Nightmist and are Sherwood’s cousins? Fascinating. At times it seems our world is smaller than it appears.”
Yusef wrote:Yusef smiles. “As I understand it, I met them only a day or two after they seperated from the rest of you Guardians. You and Kylie were both among those originally drafted by Sherwood, yes?”
“That is correct, Yusef. We were among those in attendance when he and Lord Validar assembled the Guardians.”
Yusef wrote:“That would be great,” Yusef says happily, then sobers. “Unfortunately, no. I don’t believe that I will be allowed to accompany Kylie and the other elves on their quest. This leaves me at something of a crossroads, as I must seek out a new path. I was thinking of asking Lord Validar for permission to join the Guardians. Do you think he would allow that?”
The dwarven priest ponders Yusef’s situation. “That seems like a reasonable choice. And I see no reason why Validar would deny your request. If you would like, I would be happy to give him a good word on your behalf.”
Rat wrote:“Oh, the goody-two shoes you mentioned before,” Rat says casually. Rising up to his full 3’4” size, he steps up to Grondar. “So, you’ve been taken care of me apprentice, have you dwarf?”
Grondar spares Kylie a look with a raised eyebrow before turning back to the halfling. “I have done my best, insofar as is possible with someone like our Sprite. And you must be the Master Finder Rat that I’ve heard so much about.
Find anything yet today?”
Validar wrote:"Hello again, Aria Stonehand. It appears we will continue to be working together in the combined liberation of the areas, both human and dwarf, to the west of here. I am pleased that we will be continuing to work together and King Victor has indicated that we are to assist you in planning your attacks on the dwarven settlement near Fort Fletcher."
"I would like to meet in the morning. The King wishes an audience with all of the Guardians in the morning and we can discuss our plans once those festivities have been completeed."
Grondar arrives back in the dining hall about this time and overhears Validar’s words. “Ah, there you are, Validar. Your meeting with your new king lasted long. I trust it was fruitful?
“If I may, I would like to attend the strategy meeting tomorrow. Perhaps I shall learn something one of these times,” he says with a grin.
Once the discussion finishes, he remains and has dinner and a drink with Aria and Rat. However, he does not stay up terribly late. Instead, he returns to his room for prayers and devotions before turning in for a good night’s sleep.
Rising well before the meeting with the humans’ new king, Grondar returns to the dining hall to break his fast, half expecting Rat to still be there. Eating in moderation, he returns to his quarters for some morning devotions, then shows up in time to say good-bye to his elven friends as they depart on their mysterious mission. From there, he procedes to the meeting with the human king.
Grondar watches as the three Lords from their company are made Knights of the Realm. As he understands it, this is a very great honor and he joins in the clapping for his friends. Next, other members of the group are raised to the level of Lords and Ladies. Also a great honor, and Grondar is very happy for them – particularly his young friend Sherra. His clapping is even louder for them.
The King wrote:That just leaves Grondar whom the King addresses last. “Since you are not a citizen of Cynalon, I cannot grant you lordship, noble dwarf. However, I will have your assistance in these affairs made known to King Everast. I am confident that he will reward you in his own way. Know that Cynalon is grateful for your help in these matters.”
Grondar kneels before the human king, as is his due. “It has been my honor to serve in this capacity, your highness. Your lands border ours, and the fate of the entire region is important to us all, and I believe it requires all of our diligence to protect the freedoms and values that we all cherish.”
The group gathers later to discuss the situation and plan their future.
Validar wrote:"Unless we have any dissention against these choices, I propose to give Aria the Battleaxe and Rathlar the Spear. Valena has already departed on the ElfQuest, but I think we should leave the Boots here for her return."
"Grondar, if you would be so kind as to present this Mithril Battleaxe to your kinsman, on our behalf, I would appreciate it. We are meeting with her later for some strategy sessions regarding the assault on the lost dwarven holdings."
“It would be my pleasure, Lord--
Sir Validar. I will see you again then, as I have no real opinion regarding the distribution of the magic items.”
Grondar departs and goes in search of Aria. “Lady Aria,” he says. “Due to your contributions in the recent battle, the Guardians have decided to award you this fine battleaxe that was recovered from our foes. I think you will find that there are few of such quality in the world.”
