The explorers have reached the Lost Valley of the Hutaaka where Nightmist is believed to dwell! Beyond the large gate that blocks entry, they found a small village seemingly abandoned and worn from the passage of time.
A pair of half-elves were spotted approaching from another nearby village. Preparations were made to greet them just outside the first village. The encounter, so far, as been a peaceful one. The half-elves were the brother and sister duo of Talen and Lia. Yusef correctly identified Lia as being a Priestess of the Dark Maiden, the little known drow goddess Eilistraee.
The conversation continues and it becomes clear that Nightmist is the half-elves grandmother and a drow Priestess of Eilistraee herself! The Lost Valley is a refuge for those from races traditionally thought to be evil who just want to live out simple lives in peace.
The original inhabitants of the valley is a race called the Hutaaka. It was they who built these villages and the road leading down out of the mountains. Who or what they remains a mystery.

Rat:
"What's the matter? Never seen a halfling before? No room in this Lost Valley of yours for the little folk?"
Turning back to the others, Rat adds, "That explains why this valley is lost! No halflings! That means no fine food or drink. No pipe weed either! Who'd want to come here? It's almost unthinkable! Talk about the hind end of civilization!"
"A good finder this dwarven friend of yours was? Dwarves can make great finders, especially when underground or working with stone.""Too bad a dwarven acquaintance of mine, Grondar Foehammer, isn't here; he might have been able to help you with that..." Kylie replies with a smirk.
Much to Rat's surprise, the pair act like they've never seen a halfling before!"I have never seen a being such as yourself before! What are you?", Talen asks in almost childlike wonder. "No, the valley is not lost. It is a refuge for those who only seek to live in peace in an otherwise dangerous world. Those dark elves who only seek to live in peace in the lands under the sun. And a place for other races who are hated and thought to be evil to lead peaceful lives."
At first she does a double take with her mouth agape looking at how the child is talking to an elder but then she notices the hair on its feet and realizes that this is no child at all. it soon asks a question which her brother answers the question in turn.

Lilia:
When it is confirmed that Nightmist is a drow elf, Lilia will draw her bow and an energy arrow will form as she draws the string back. Kylie states her shock and Lia quickly counters it with an argument that is wise beyond her years. Yusef steps in trying to calm the situation. His words also make sense, but to blindly accept anyone who is drow or even part drow is a hard concept to swallow.
"The drow turned their backs on elfin life and retreated to the depths of the earth to worship their demonic goddess. They kill and enslave any who are weaker then they are. They are not to be trusted and should be killed on sight. They betrayed the Seldarine!"
Should a fight break out, Lilia will not hesitate to fire her bow at the half-elves.
"Nariya is a what is called a wood or sylvan elf. I am what is called a high elf. Different branches of the same family. I hail from the Dorwynn Elfholds to the north, the cradle of elfish civilization. Clan Grunalf is one of the seven major elfin clans. Clan Grunalf produces the finest elfin foresters and rangers. The Clan itself is like an extended family, even though not all of us are direct blood relatives. You may call me Lilia for short."Another elf comes forward. Talen is amazed how similar and yet how different the surface elves are compared to the Underdark elves. "And welcome to you too", Talen states. "You're appearance is very different from that of Nariya. Do you come from a different place?"
A golden haired elf steps forth not saying much besides her greeting which Lia soon replies in greeting as well, “Greetings, Lilliathelionn Allandros of Clan Grunalf.” Never has she heard of this clan she will ask, “This clan of which you speak, who does it consist of?” She will ask politely.
"Hutaaka?", Lilia repeats while raising one eyebrow. "They were a race known to the elves many centuries ago. It was said that they ruled the lands to the south of the Elfholds long before man arrived there. We thought that they died out a long time ago. They were renowned for their fine art and building skills. They were a peaceful and philosophical race. Very ill-suited to live in a dangerous world."Lia wrote:“The natives of this land are known as the Hutaaka, For a time their numbers have diminished because of Disease and famine. As for who lives her now many races call the valley home. Several orcs and goblins as well as humans that were turned away from their villages due to their offspring's’ appearance.”

Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!
Sherwood
Sherwood:
Sherwood is both surprised and trouble by where all this is going. Nightmist is a drow and this valley is a refuge for many dangerous races. This must be why all of this was concealed from the people below. To protect those who dwell up here.
Sherwood does have to agree with what Lia and Yusef state in response to Kylie. "You both raise very valid points. The circumstance of one's birth does not guarantee their behavior as an adult. Stories of someone overcoming great personal obstacles are not uncommon."
"I am told that it functions much like a regular mage scroll. Once the magic is invoked, the tattoo vanishes. It sounds like a rather painful process to me."It's Nariya's turn to be interested and listen to Sherwood's information. "Do they cast the spell straight from their body then?" she will ask. "Does the tattoo remain, or disappear when cast? If not, that type of mage would be almost unstoppable if he could just cast from his tattoos without end." She doesn't know much about mages beyond the basics, and knows most of them suffer from some sort of madness, but mages with unlimited spells would be scary.
"That would be fine with me.""We were on our way out of the valley to get our first taste of outside life, but it can wait. We'll escort you back to the village. Come."
Talen will turn and start to walk off but will go slow enough so that everyone can follow. "It'll be dark soon and we won't be able to reach the village before nightfall. We'll have to camp along the way."
"I can't say that I've heard the name before. But now that you mention it, the style of architecture here does remind me of a ruins to the southeast of here that were discovered in the early days of the Kingdom. That must have been built by the Hutaaka long ago and then abandoned when they retreated back to the Lost Valley."“The natives of this land are known as the Hutaaka, For a time their numbers have diminished because of Disease and famine. As for who lives her now many races call the valley home. Several orcs and goblins as well as humans that were turned away from their villages due to their offspring's appearance.”

Sherwood is both surprised and trouble by where all this is going. Nightmist is a drow and this valley is a refuge for many dangerous races. This must be why all of this was concealed from the people below. To protect those who dwell up here.
"No, there is any more malignant race in the world than the drow", Sherwood will agree. "I had not idea that Nightmist was a drow. I'm not really sure what to believe at the moment. But I do know this, simply be descended from the drow does not necessarily make them evil. Lord Validar's former adventuring band, the Seekers, had a half-drow Priest of Mortidus among their numbers. Non evil half-drow do exist.""Dark elf?! Drow?!" Kylie can only barely avoid shrieking at the very mention of the malignancy known as drow. "You're drow?!" she asks, looking back and forth at Talen and Lia. Before they can answer, she shifts her attention to her friends, particularly Sherwood. "How can you be taking this so calmly?! They're descended from drow! From what they've said, there are drow living here! Nightmist - the elf we've been seeking - is a drow! Is there any more malignant race in the world?!" Clearly, this revelation has pushed her to the brink - of what, is uncertain.
Sherwood does have to agree with what Lia and Yusef state in response to Kylie. "You both raise very valid points. The circumstance of one's birth does not guarantee their behavior as an adult. Stories of someone overcoming great personal obstacles are not uncommon."
"Yes, that is true. My grandfather did adventure with Nightmist in the past. However, nothing in my scouring of records indicated that she was a drow. She was only described as an exotic elf-maiden with long, silvery hair. She must have used magic to conceal her true form, but I doubt that she would have fooled my grandfather. He was the most powerful mage in the kingdom at that time. He trusted Nightmist enough to help her protect this Lost Valley from intrusion. In hindsight, it must have been him who erected that Permanent Illusion that conceals the road into the mountains back in the valley. I'm not sure what to think about this Lost Valley, but I do know I trust my grandfather's judgment. If he thought Nightmist was worthy of being trusted, then I shall do so until evidence to the contrary is uncovered. I think this is going to be an unique experience for all of us."Yusef wrote:"Sherwood has brought us here, and I believe he did so with good reason. He would not have done so if he didn't know well that Nightmist was a worthy soul, whatever her race. I believe you said, Sherwood, that your grandfather adventured with her. Surely that is cause to give her the benefit of the doubt, at the very least. Right, Kylie...?"
Sherwood will chuckle for a moment at Nariya's comments. They really helped serve to break the tension in the air. "Neither did I, Nariya.""When did you encounter Drow Kylie?" Nariya asks after Lia says the comment. Turning to Sherwood, she adds, "You didn't tell us you had a great hunter of Drow with you on this trip."
I do what is necessary.
Talen
Talen:
"Over the years, Nightmist has rescued numerous orc and goblin females and brought them here. In those cultures, the females role is only to tend to the males and have children. Most simply endure the situation, while a small few try to escape. Most are killed by the males, but a few manage to flee. Some of those were brought here to start a new life. Some of them are Priestess of Eilistraee too."
Talen doesn’t take Kylie's outburst very well. A combination of hurt and anger comes to his face.
"Don't you think that we know the drow who do not embrace Eilistraee are evil? They raid us and try to destroy us! They are the ones who killed my parents! All because they wanted to live in peace with other beings. I hate those drow!"
"I am what I am. I had no control over the circumstances of my birth any more than you did. I was taught to respect others and try to help those in need and do good. That is all any of us can try to do."
All of which just makes Talen all the more nervous! He's just starting to discover the wonder of the opposite gender.Nariya will smile at Talen's seeming shyness. She'll glance over at him as she talks, including him in the conversation, seeing if he will become any more relaxed.
"No, actually I haven't seen a halfling before", Talen says innocently. "What is pipe weed?"Much to Rat's surprise, the pair act like they've never seen a halfling before!
"What's the matter? Never seen a halfling before? No room in this Lost Valley of yours for the little folk?"
Turning back to the others, Rat adds, "That explains why this valley is lost! No halflings! That means no fine food or drink. No pipe weed either! Who'd want to come here? It's almost unthinkable!"
"Ah", Talen says in realization. "Then drow must be yet another branch of the elfin family. It appears that each branch of elves are different from the others."Lilia wrote:"Nariya is a what is called a wood or sylvan elf. I am what is called a high elf. Different branches of the same family. I hail from the Dorwynn Elfholds to the north, the cradle of elfish civilization. Clan Grunalf is one of the seven major elfin clans. Clan Grunalf produces the finest elfin foresters and rangers. The Clan itself is like an extended family, even though not all of us are direct blood relatives."
"Really? I find that very surprising."Kylie pauses to think for a moment. "Not that I have seen. I have met a few other half-elves over the years, but only a few. Since humans and elves generally live in different places, unions of the two seem to be fairly rare."
"I am truly sorry and can feel your pain. I miss my mother and father dearly and can't help but think of them all the time. To live with such uncertainty must gnaw at your being."Kylie wrote:"I'm sorry to hear that, Talen. Losing your parents must have been terrible. I have not seen my own mother since I was a child, and do not know whether she yet lives."
"Both our father and grandfather were humans and their pigmentation was fair. True drow are as dark as night in skin color.""Fascinating," Yusef murmurs to himself. "If what I have heard of dark elves is true - that they are dark skinned - then that blood must be rather diluted in both you and your brother."
"I think I would like that", Talen answers. "We know nothing of the outside world. A guide would be most welcomed.""That sounds to be a fine dogma," Yusef says. "Finding the good in others - and ourselves - is quite commendable. My patron, Celestian, is the lord of the moon, the stars and travelers; we seek to explore the world and aid fellow travelers. If I may be of any assistance to you in your journey through life, please let me know."
"What remains of the Hutaaka live in the valley in their own village. They number only a few dozen these days. They have the physical bodies of a human, but their head is like that of an animal. I am told that it resembles the head of a jackal, not that I have ever seen such a creature."Yusef ponders this interesting discussion. "Were the Hutaaka a human race, or something else? Are there survivors of the Hutaaka? Do they live in this area with you, or did they migrate elsewhere? There are even orcs and goblins living here? Peacefully? Amazing."
"How horrible! Is slavery common among the humans in these lands?"Yusef smiles. "My mother was from the land of Zakhara, what Sherwood calls the Land of Fate. My father's family has lived in Elcadan for generations. He bought my mother from slavers who had kidnapped her from her family.
"I think I would like that."Yusef wrote:"Considering your isolation here, and the nature of your community, I am not surprised that you are not familiar with Celestian. I would be happy to answer you questions you might have, now or later."
"My sister tells me that no male could concentrate enough during their night rituals to properly serve the Dark Maiden. I'm not quite sure what that means."Yusef wrote:"No male priests? How interesting. It seems like I may have heard that of one of the goddesses of the elves, but I don't know for sure as my knowledge in that area is limited. As for your skin, I had just assumed that you had a good tan, as you're not really any darker than I."

“It would be wise to put your weapon away, for we do not mean you any harm. Nor would it be beneficial to you that any harm come to us.” Passing her gaze to the others as she goes as her gaze returns to normal friendly self., “If word were to reach Nightmist of our treatment I do not think she would be so inclined to help you in your quest.”
Letting out a laugh she will say, “That is true brother. Not many a men could concentrate during our night rituals. Those whom serve her carry on our rituals in as little clothing as possible or none at all, depending on the ceremony.”
“No, I must admit I haven’t. There is always room for more.” she says in reply with a smile."What's the matter? Never seen a halfling before? No room in this Lost Valley of yours for the little folk?"
She lets out a laugh as the halfling speaks, “Many of who wish to be accepted by others and to live in peace of course! His words also make sense, but to blindly accept anyone who is drow or even part drow is a hard concept to swallow.
Seeing the Elf maiden begin to draw her bow, Lia stares at Lilia with an icy stare, and says, “ What you say is partially true but not totally. Yes they did betray the Seldine, but not all did. Eilistraee was cleared of any wrong doing by her father, whom you should know quite well given you are a elf! Corellon Larethian. I wear the symbol of Eilistraee, as does my grandmother, If I were evil I would not be able to touch such a symbol.”"The drow turned their backs on elfin life and retreated to the depths of the earth to worship their demonic goddess. They kill and enslave any who are weaker then they are. They are not to be trusted and should be killed on sight. They betrayed the Seldarine!"

New Beginnings
Kylie:
When it is revealed that they are descended from drow, Lia and then Talen both reply angrily to Kylie's fear and caution. There may be those in the world trusting enough to trust someone just because they say that they're a nice person, but Kylie is nowhere near so gullible. She learned her lesson long ago and learned it the hard way.
Before it can turn into a full-blown argument, the half-demon - or whatever he is - Yusef steps in and urges calm. Sherwood likewise seems inclined to a moderate course, though he sounds a bit cautious himself. On the other hand, Lilia seems almost as wary of the half-drow as herself, going so far as to draw her bow on them.
"You two may be as sweet and kind as you say," though Kylie's tone implies that she doesn't believe it," but we have no way of knowing that for sure. What I am quite certain of is that we are wise to be cautious in any dealings with drow - or their kin."
"My mother - an elf of Alfheim - filled my childhood with stories of the wickedness, depravity and unending malice of the drow. Should I not believe her? Are the drow really just misunderstood?" Clearly, Kylie doesn't find that likely.
"That I don't know about that, my friend. But you said the treasure might be buried, and I've always heard that dwarves were the best diggers. Right?"Rat wrote:"A good finder this dwarven friend of yours was? Dwarves can make great finders, especially when underground or working with stone."
Rat's exaggerated protestations cause Kylie to chuckle. "That must be it, Rat, what else could it have been?"Rat wrote:Turning back to the others, Rat adds, "That explains why this valley is lost! No halflings! That means no fine food or drink. No pipe weed either! Who'd want to come here? It's almost unthinkable! Talk about the hind end of civilization!"
"It is my personal goal to find out what happened to her, regardless of what that may be. I need to know."Talen wrote:"I am truly sorry and can feel your pain. I miss my mother and father dearly and can't help but think of them all the time. To live with such uncertainty must gnaw at your being."

Yusef:
"Among some people and some places, it is. In others, no. It was certainly common in my father's family and some of the other wealthy families of Elcadan."
The heated exchange continues as they become embroiled in a standoff of words and - in Lilia's case - weapons. Yusef would rather this not turn into a battle.
"I believe what Sherwood says about people having the capacity to overcome what they are to become who they wish to be. I have to. However, I think Kylie also has a point in that caution is also advisable in dealing with the unknown."
Yusef turns and addresses Lia and Talen directly. "You mentioned exploring the world beyond this valley. The reality is that the drow have a very bad reputation in the rest of the world, and they have earned it. You will meet this kind of prejudice everywhere you go. I suspect you will need to learn to accept it and deal with it in order to survive for long."
Yusef nods in agreement. It is interesting to learn more of his own people from these easterners, but he will take the knowledge wherever he can get it.Sherwood wrote:"I am told that it functions much like a regular mage scroll. Yusef finds all of this quite interesting, though it does not tell him whether they were human, elven, halfling, goblin or something else entirely. Hopefully they will have the opportunity to learn more. Perhaps this Nightmist will be able to tell them more.Sherwood wrote:"I can't say that I've heard the name before. Wearing little or no clothing was quite common among the religious practices of his father's family, but there was nothing innocent or 'good' involved. So lets put away the weapons and talk about this like rational beings. Neither one of us seems willing to pick a fight, so lets not start one."
"Our mission was to locate Nightmist in order to learn information from her about the Cult of the Blackflame. That has not changed, regardless if Nightmist is a drow or not. We are here seeking information to help protect the Kingdom."
"That fact that his Lost Valley has existed up here for what seems like hundreds of years is troubling, but that does not make it a threat. It seems to me that we need to continue on as planned and make contact with Nightmist. Find out if she will help us and what she knows. In the process we'll discover the truth of this Lost Valley and then we'll decide how we should act in the best interest of the Kingdom."
"I think we should just camp here for the night instead of moving on now. It'll be dark soon and we should get a fire going."
At the moment, Sherwood won't mention summoning his magical house and will discourage the others from mention it if possible. Just something that could be used to our advantage down the road if necessary.

Lilia:
"Very well. There will be no trouble unless they cause it."
"I know no such thing!", Lilia shouts back. "I've never heard of Eilistraee before!"Seeing the Elf maiden begin to draw her bow, Lia stares at Lilia with an icy stare, and says, " What you say is partially true but not totally. Yes they did betray the Seldarine, but not all did. Eilistraee was cleared of any wrong doing by her father, whom you should know quite well given you are an elf, Corellon Larethian. I wear the symbol of Eilistraee, as does my grandmother. If I were evil I would not be able to touch such a symbol."
That, coupled with Sherwood's plea for peace, will cause Lilia to lower her bow. The energy arrow in it dissipates as the elf maiden allows the tension on the bowstring to ease."It would be wise to put your weapon away, for we do not mean you any harm. Nor would it be beneficial to you that any harm come to us." Passing her gaze to the others as she goes as her gaze returns to normal friendly self., "If word were to reach Nightmist of our treatment I do not think she would be so inclined to help you in your quest."
"Very well. There will be no trouble unless they cause it."
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

Nariya:
Nariya can't understand why the situation has become confrontational. Yes, the stories she heard of the Drow depicted them as vile and evil as any race could possibly be, but clearly the pair before them are not Drow. Sherwood seems to calm everyone down a bit, but Nariya feels the need to chime in.
"I'm not sure what stories you were told," Nariya says mainly to Kylie, but also includes Lilia since she seems even angrier. "But there is no way these two could be the Drow you mention. Drow have skin the color of pitch and hair as white as the snow. They wear clothes made of spider webs and those very spiders are their companions. I see no spiders here," she says, mocking a bit by looking around her feet.
"Plus Drow can't stand sunlight and frankly, if they were cold blooded killers, these two are a bit naive about their role in that." With that last bit, she turns to Lia and Talen, "No offense, just trying to make a point."
"They may in fact be descended from Drow, and since they state that, I have no reason to doubt them," Nariya continues. "But obviously they lost their bad traits somewhere along the way."
"If you want to see a really truly evil species, we passed a bunch of their settlements before ever getting here. Their race is called Man. I didn't see us setting the torch to their towns even though they destroy the forests and use up their natural surroundings without conisderation of those they share the world with. That seems pretty evil to me, to my eyes anyway," Nariya says.

“No Offense taken.”

Lia can’t help but thank this , Nariya, for her words to her comrades.
If the sititation is over with Lia will show them suitable spots within the ruins that may appeal to them.
“Then it seems we have our work cut out for us.” she says in a positive tone. “We will just have to let our actions speak for themselves as well as our words. Though you will find that what I speak is the truth. At least for me.” she doesn’t want to speak for her brother as he is his own person."You two may be as sweet and kind as you say," though Kylie's tone implies that she doesn't believe it," but we have no way of knowing that for sure.

Thinking quickly on her feet she retorts kindly, “My apologizes, I thought you would have. In time if you wish I will show you everything that I know of her legends and faith. But until then let us start a new if we can.”"I know no such thing!", Lilia shouts back. "I've never heard of Eilistraee before!"

Kylie:
Yusef and Sherwood continue their plea for a calm and considered response to the situation. As Sherwood points out, their mission has not changed, and right now it takes precedence. Even Nariya joins the effort, though her arguments seem disorganized and confused; still, the intent comes across, though Kylie cannot help thinking a bit smugly that the warrior's skills are definitely in the weapons arena rather than the thinking arena.
"What you say is true, Sherwood. However, I also believe we should look to our backs, and anywhere else that treachery might come from." Kylie resists the urge to look right at Lia as she says this.
Discussion turns to the subject of setting camp. "If the rest of you will get our camp set up, I'll start work on preparing us a meal." Fortunately, they still have pretty decent provisions, so she should be able to whip up something reasonably tasty, nutritious and filling.
"I suspect Grondar wouldn't really be inclined to the finder profession. He's a priest of a rather goody-two-shoes goddess. Good with the healing arts, though, which is always handy to have around."Rat wrote:"That they are, lass. And some of the skills to make good finders too."

Kylie nods, finding that she agrees with the strange self-proclaimed priest. Yusef:
Sherwood and Nariya join him in urging the others to relax and address the situation without resorting to violence. It seems to work as all parties, even Lilia, ease off a bit - if a bit grudgingly in some cases. Yusef doesn't much like Nariya's implication that humans are inherently evil, but decides now is not the time to get into that kind of argument.
Yusef will gladly participate in getting a comfortable camp set up. He notes Sherwood's apparent reluctance to mention his magic, so avoids the topic. It is unfortunate that he did not retain his spells that would have been most helpful in this regard. Still, it is an area in which a priest of the god of travellers has some skill.
Thus, Yusef sets to work with a will. He selects a good, well-protected site among the ruins for their camp. The campfire will set in a place where the light is shielded from view from directions other than the wall and chasm, but the smoke can escape easily. He also uses to few tricks he knows to make the camp and sleeping accomodations as comfortable as possible.

Talen
Talen:
"What remains of the Hutaaka live in the valley in their own village. They number only a few dozen these days. They have the physical bodies of a human, but their head is like that of an animal. I am told that it resembles the head of a jackal, not that I have ever seen such a creature."
Talen is feeling very weary and is eager to make camp when Sherwood suggests it. He’s surprised-- and a bit hurt—- by the harsh treatment that they’ve received. Perhaps tomorrow will be a better day.
“I can understand that. I hope that you succeed.”Kylie wrote:"It is my personal goal to find out what happened to her, regardless of what that may be. I need to know."
“Just as we have no way of knowing whether any of you are here for benign purposes either. You could be here to steal or kill. Or you could be honestly looking for Nightmist. “If you would have paid attention, I said that my parents were murdered by drow raiders! Of course we know that the vast majority of drow are evil and horrid beings! We may be naive, but we’re not stupid. Are you meaning to tell us that just because most drow are evil that all drow must also be evil? Is this true among you other elves, humans, half-elves and halflings? That everyone is either nice or evil? Is there no exceptions? No contradictions?”Kylie wrote:"My mother - an elf of Alfheim - filled my childhood with stories of the wickedness, depravity and unending malice of the drow. Should I not believe her? Are the drow really just misunderstood?" Clearly, Kylie doesn't find that likely.
Yusef appears to have missed this:Yusef finds all of this quite interesting, though it does not tell him whether they were human, elven, halfling, goblin or something else entirely. Hopefully they will have the opportunity to learn more. Perhaps this Nightmist will be able to tell them more.

Lia
While Yusef secures a campsite Lia will begin collect wood for the fire.
Once the Camp is set up Lia will ask Sherwood, as he seems to be the leader of this band, as to what he wishes to do for a night watch. In doing so she will tell him of the potential dangers of a Drow raid, though doubtful as the caves are a few miles away.
Lia can’t help but notice the caution as well as the mocking of Kylie words, Though she thinks better of commenting so she merely let’s the comment roll off her.Kylie wrote

Nariya:
The racial tension seems to calm down, but only on the surface. Numerous looks and comments are still being passed around, but it seems everybody can co-exist as long as a blade is nearby and handy.
As a campsite has been determined, Nariya begins her task of clearing and cleaning the perimeter. Once again she wants to see if their campsite is disturbed during the night, and if so, by what. The task gives her time to think about everything that has transpired during the trip so far and illustrated to her many of the reasons why the Sylvan elves prefer to keep to themselves.
It appears that the magical dwelling is not going to be used, so Nariya prepares herself for a night watch. She will stow the bulk of her gear and place a few weapons in hidden places about the camp so one is always within reach. She figures she will handle the bulk of the watch since it seems nearly everyone else will require a magican's sleep.

Kylie:
That evening, Kylie will gladly double up with one of her companions (not including the half-drow), for a shift on watch. Like most elves, she needs little sleep, and can spend any remaining time studying her spellbooks.
"Thank you," Kylie says.Talen wrote:“I can understand that. I hope that you succeed.”
"The difference with humans, elves, halflings and other civilized races are that there are as many tales of honor, courage and benevolence from such people as there are of hatred, violence and depravity. Where are the tales of the kindness and generosity of the drow to match those of their wickedness? Have you heard such stories, because I am certain no one outside this valley has."Talen wrote:“Just as we have no way of knowing whether any of you are here for benign purposes either. Yusef:
Yusef enjoys the hearty meal that Kylie prepares; the young woman is quite an accomplished cook. Later, he will volunteer for a watch with Talen in the hopes of an opportunity to speak with him on subjects of mutual interest.
Yusef considers this information. From the description, the sound somewhat like gnolls. However, he has never heard of that race building towns or living peacefully among others. Perhaps these Hutaaka are a more advanced offshoot of that primitive race. "I have seen and heard of a similar race called gnolls, but I don't believe they were advanced enough to create this," he says, sweaping his arm around at the town."What remains of the Hutaaka live in the valley in their own village. They number only a few dozen these days. They have the physical bodies of a human, but their head is like that of an animal. I am told that it resembles the head of a jackal, not that I have ever seen such a creature."
"Perhaps," is all the enigmatic priest says in reply. They believe they have learned the lesson, but reacted aggressively and angrily when confronted with a prejudice that they will find all too common beyond these hills. Hopefully, they will gain greater wisdom and understanding before their raw emotions cost them their lives.Talen wrote:“We know this”, Talen say silently. “We learned it the hard way when our parents were murdered.”

Sherwood
Sherwood:
“Well pair up for four shifts of two hours. Lia and myself will take the first. Nariya and Rat the second. Kylie and Lilia the third. That leaves Yusef and Talen for the early morning duty. Is that agreeable for all?”
Once camp is set up, Sherwood will pick a comfortable spot to set up his bedroll. He’ll eat his fill of Kylie’s meal and chat with those who wish to talk to him.
Later on, Sherwood will settle in for his guard shift with Lia. He’ll do regular walks around the camp. Away from the others, but still in view of them, he’ll privately chat to Lia.
“Tell me about Eilistraee. I would be interested to hear her philosophy on life.”
Sherwood will discuss whatever Lia wishes to discuss as well during their guard shift.
“And you could do much worse”, Sherwood responds without much emotion. “Be thankful that you don’t have orcs for neighbors. Then you would see real evil in action.”Nariya wrote:"If you want to see a really truly evil species, we passed a bunch of their settlements before ever getting here. Their race is called Man. “That’s enough, Kylie. You’ve made your point. No need to beat everyone over the head with it. I never suggested letting our guard down. Caution is always wise in situations like this.”Kylie wrote:"What you say is true, Sherwood. However, I also believe we should look to our backs, and anywhere else that treachery might come from." Rat
Rat:
Rat will be the first to settle down once the call to camp for the night is made. He eats heartily, like he always does, and will clean up any leftovers that might remain.
“The smell of this fine food would attract predators otherwise! Just trying to let us all sleep a little bit easier tonight!”
Before turning in, Rat will attempt to introduce pipeweed to Talen. He’ll demonstrate by filling and lighting his own pipe before giving the lad a taste. “This here is the finest weed to be had in the Shires! It’s most pleasant.”
Later on in the night, Rat is pushed to get him to wake up for his turn at guard duty.
“But I don’t want any peaches now…”, the Halfling mumbles before rolling over and going back to sleep.
“Humph!”, Rat snorts. “Sounds like a waste o’ talent to me! No wonder you don’t travel with ‘im any more!”Kylie wrote:"I suspect Grondar wouldn't really be inclined to the finder profession. He's a priest of a rather goody-two-shoes goddess. Good with the healing arts, though, which is always handy to have around."
“Leave it to the lass to come up with the best idea I’ve heard since lunch!”Kylie wrote:Discussion turns to the subject of setting camp. "If the rest of you will get our camp set up, I'll start work on preparing us a meal." Fortunately, they still have pretty decent provisions, so she should be able to whip up something reasonably tasty, nutritious and filling.

Lilia:
Lilia hasn’t really had anything to add to the conversation and so has kept quiet. Camping here makes sense to her as opposed to further along. This way they can’t be led into any ambushes and the others in the valley will be unaware of their presence.
The arrangement of the guards is fine with Lilia. It’ll come after her normal nights rest anyway. Sharing it with Kylie is desirable as well.

Lia
(Would Lia have any knowledge of the surrounding wildlife like wildcats or anything of the likes? If so what types)
Once Yusef has found a suitable campsite, Kylie begins to make a meal. Though weary of what she has said Lia moves forward and takes a portion first smelling it then eating a tiny bit. When she finds it to her liking she begins eating at a regular pace once more. Afterward She will complement Kylie on her skill with cooking, “The meal was very satisfying, I thank you. Where did you learn how to cook like that?” she will ask.
She finds a suitable place for her to sleep near her brother and sits down gazing around at their new companions of sorts. As they begin to settle Lia looks to the moon and stars while letting out a smile. The moonlit sky has always been a welcoming sight to her. Soon after she begins singing a tone known to her since she was but a child as the others make ready to sleep, hoping that it perhaps takes their minds of the trials of the day.
Lia raises for her guard duty with Sherwood, her crossbow in her hands. During their guard duty Sherwood asks, “Tell me about Eilistraee. I would be interested to hear her philosophy on life.”
She looks to the moon and hesitates for a moment, not wanting to cause another argument with a potential ally. Though Sherwood does seem the leveled headed one of the ground. So she begins her tale:
“Where to begin..”she says, after a moment , “As legend tells us Eilistraee, is the daughter of Corellon Larethian and the Spider queen. During the wars of the Seldine(sp), she was blamed for turning her back on the surface elves and their patrons. Her father soon realized that she played no part in the plot and wished not to punish her. Though Eilistraee deemed it worthy enough to be punished as those whom did betray the Seldine, for only evil would be represented in the dark confines of the earth. It was her wish to be one that, and drow could look to to escape the spider queens embrace and return to the surface world to live in peace.”
“Be always kind, except for in battle of evil. Encourge happiness and well being where ever you travel. Learn as well as teach song and dance for the Dark Maiden takes great pleasure in their beauty. We are taught to be tolerant of other races and to promote harmony among them. Befriend strangers, shelter the homeless and feed those whom are starving. Repay rudeness with kindness as well as Repay violence with swift violence so that those who cause it are dealt with forthwith. Aid elves of all kinds in distress, especially those whom are drow. So that they can find the good within themselves and hear Eilistraee‘s message"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace and live beneath the sun again where trees and flowers grow.
“My grandmother taught me these teachings at an early age and I believe in them fully. It seemed the only right choice to become a follower of the Dark Maiden. For there is good in all of us it is just hard to find at times.”
Looking at Sherwood, “Never would I have imagined that I wouldn’t be accepted by my word alone, for it was the truth. If I have offended you or your comrades I am sorry.”
While on Guard duty Lia will ask Sherwood, “What made you decide to explore or adventure? Do he have any family, a wife or children? Is what Kylie spoke of true of the outside world, resentment of those who are different whether it be racial or color.”
“Earlier you spoke of your Grandfather whom adventured with Nightmist, Could you tell me of him?” She asks innocently wanting to know more of her bloodline. “If he is my grandfather and yours, wouldn’t that make us second or third cousins?”
Lia has no trouble answering any questions that Sherwood would have whether it be about herself, her lands or her kin. As far as she is concerned Sherwood is a potential friend whom in her eyes shares the same thrist for knowledge as she does.
If any trouble is seen within their shift Lia will pull out her black statuette of a lion and speak the command word. She will then tell one to wake Talen while the other stay by her side.
Rat wrote:
“That sounds fine to me. I would suspect that there are not many natural predators up here in such an enclosed environment. At least of the non-flying variety.”
(Would Lia have any knowledge of the surrounding wildlife like wildcats or anything of the likes? If so what types)
“It is agreeable.” she says. At least she wasn’t placed with Kylie for they might becker more then watch for trouble.“Well pair up for four shifts of two hours. Lia and myself will take the first. Nariya and Rat the second. Kylie and Lilia the third. That leaves Yusef and Talen for the early morning duty. Is that agreeable for all?”

Taking her wineskin that is full with water. She will then spill some water about his face while saying,” Come rat, it is time to wake.”Kicking the Halflinds small feet, rat soon replies:
Later on in the night, Rat is pushed to get him to wake up for his turn at guard duty.
“But I don’t want any peaches now…”, the Halfling mumbles before rolling over and going back to sleep.

Nariya:
Nariya finishes with her preperations around the chosen campsite. Kylie has made the evening meal and Nariya takes her portion. It is very satisfying and makes Nariya wonder about the young woman. She seems to be a person of extremes, probably the human and elven parts of her constantly at war she thinks.
“Well pair up for four shifts of two hours. Lia and myself will take the first. Nariya and Rat the second. Kylie and Lilia the third. That leaves Yusef and Talen for the early morning duty. Is that agreeable for all?”
There seems to be a pretty large watch list prepared by Sherwood. Nariya could easily absorb half the watch by herself and not worry about needing the extra sleep. However, everyone seems agreeable so she gets some sleep until woken by Lia and Sherwood. Rat however seems less energetic about the whole thing.

Nariya chuckles, moving off to perform her duty. She would just let the halfling sleep, doubtful he'll be much help, or company, during the shift. Still, it's not her decision, but she remains vigilant in case anything happens during her watch. If nothing does, she will go and quietly wake both Lilia and Kylie to let them know when it is their turn.

New Beginnings
Kylie:
"I'm glad my meagre attempts meet with your approval, my old friend. I for one feel safer knowing that you've taken this extra precaution to keep us safe."
Kylie considers the question, turning it around in her mind for any hidden meanings or traps for the unwary. Finding none, she answers truthfully. "I learned the basics from my mother. After she was gone, I had to provide for my father, so I learned mostly from experience and from talking with a few of the women who lived nearby." Those few who could be trusted, Kylie thinks to herself, but doesn't voice the thought.
Since their shift is in the latter part of the night, Kylie will spend the preceeding watches sleeping. However, with her distrust of their new companions, she doesn't sleep particularly well. During their shift, she chats with Lilia about their mutual interest in magic, the half-drow siblings, and any other topics that come up. Meanwhile, she keeps one eye on the siblings and one eye out for trouble from without.
Once her shift is over, Kylie will spend the last shift studying her spellbooks. As the sun comes up, she puts the books away and starts on a light be nourishing breakfast.
"Perhaps you'll get to meet him one day, Rat; perhaps you could convince him to see the error of his ways," Kylie replies with a laugh. "And to be honest, I rather liked him, even if he was a little stiff."Rat wrote:“Humph!”, Rat snorts. “Sounds like a waste o’ talent to me! No wonder you don’t travel with ‘im any more!”
"That's all I'm sayin', Uncle Sherwood," Kylie replies with a flip of her hair before walking away.Sherwood wrote:“That’s enough, Kylie. You’ve made your point. No need to beat everyone over the head with it. I never suggested letting our guard down. Caution is always wise in situations like this.”
Rat wrote:“Leave it to the lass to come up with the best idea I’ve heard since lunch!”
Rat will be the first to settle down once the call to camp for the night is made. He eats heartily, like he always does, and will clean up any leftovers that might remain.
“The smell of this fine food would attract predators otherwise! Just trying to let us all sleep a little bit easier tonight!”

Yusef:
Yusef will go to bed as early as possible and sleep until it is time to take watch. During their shift, Yusef talks with Talen. "Do you have any questions about the outside world and its cultures or religions, Talen?"
Yusef nods slightly, thinking that Sherwood has the right of that. While he has seen the evil that humans are capable of, he knows that orcs - as a group - are far worse.Sherwood wrote:“And you could do much worse”, Sherwood responds without much emotion. “Be thankful that you don’t have orcs for neighbors. Then you would see real evil in action.”
Yusef simply nods. This will give him time to talk with Talen at some length.Sherwood wrote:“Well pair up for four shifts of two hours. Lia and myself will take the first. Nariya and Rat the second. Post Continued:
It is decided to camp here in the first village inside the Lost Valley for the night. The valley itself is free of land-based predators. Occasionally there has been airborne trouble—- giant birds and the like. Once and a great while there are raiders from below the earth, primarily drow who serve the Queen of the Demonweb pits, but also a few monsters.
The night passes without any serious incidents. There are the sounds of creatures flying through the night, but none come down close to the camp. Other than a few odd noises, it’s mostly peaceful. The night is chilly, as it is late November. The lowest temperatures are near freezing.
Morning comes and the day is overcast by the time camp is broken.
GM Notes:
Going to take any special precautions as you move deeper into the Lost Valley?
There’s a rough map to the Lost Valley now up in the World of Cynalon reference pages in the Maps section. It’s black and white right now. I’ll color it when time permits. The group is currently in the bottom right hand side of the picture where it says “Gateway to Hutaaka”.
The solid black dots are villages, mostly now abandoned. The triangles are shrines and the squares are archways. The empty dots are fountains. All the shrines, archways, and fountains were created by the Hutaaka and back in their day were exquisite works of art. The hexes are 2 miles.
The Blackflame Roster page has been updated: Lia and Talen have been added.

Now what?
Try it and find out!
Talen
Talen:
“How can you stand that? Its-- its poisonous!”
Later, the one called Kylie creates a fantastic meal that everyone seems to appreciate. “Wow! Beautiful and can cook too!” An embarrassed look comes to Talen’s face when he realizes that he just said that aloud!
Sleep does not come easily to Talen, but like many elves, he needs only a few hours to feel refreshed. When the time comes to do his turn at guard duty, Talen will feel refreshed. He’s mildly surprised to see that Kylie and Lilia remain up after their shift is over, but makes no mention of it. They most also need only a little sleep to be refreshed. Since they are up, he’ll spend time talking to Yusef.
“Me?” Talen says, an incredulous look on his face. “Push you around?”Lia wrote:As they make to find a suitable camp Lia walks near Talen placing a hand on his shoulder while saying, “Do not worry brother they shall come around in time. At least until then you have me to push around.” She says with a sheepish girl trying to comfort her brother.
“They are unique beings”, Talen will simply say.Yusef wrote:Yusef considers this information. From the description, the sound somewhat like gnolls. However, he has never heard of that race building towns or living peacefully among others. Perhaps these Hutaaka are a more advanced offshoot of that primitive race. "I have seen and heard of a similar race called gnolls, but I don't believe they were advanced enough to create this," he says, sweeping his arm around at the town.
Talen looks one with great interest as the halfling presents the pipe of weed to him. Once given it, Talen takes in a big breath and immediately begins to choke! Alternating trying to get the foul fumes out of his lungs and trying to breath, Talen hands Rat back his pit.Rat wrote:Before turning in, Rat will attempt to introduce pipeweed to Talen. He’ll demonstrate by filling and lighting his own pipe before giving the lad a taste. “This here is the finest weed to be had in the Shires! It’s most pleasant.”

“I have so many questions, that I don’t really know where to begin. We know that we’ve led a sheltered existence. That’s partially why we’re going out into the world now that we’re old enough to fend for ourselves. In your opinion, what do you think we should know?”Rat wrote:Yusef will go to bed as early as possible and sleep until it is time to take watch. During their shift, Yusef talks with Talen. Rat
Rat:
Way to early in the evening, someone tries to wake Rat up. Don’t these people know that halflings can’t function without a good nine, ten hours of sleep?
“Halfling overboard!” Rat unexpectedly cries out. “Cap’n Rat is a drift at sea! Help! I’m too young to be sea monster food!!”
The small halfling begins to try and swim in his bedroll, but only succeeds in stirring up dirt and dust from the ground around him.
“Cap’n Rat overboard!”
“Well, that’s different! Any friend of yours is a friend of mine!”Kylie wrote:"Perhaps you'll get to meet him one day, Rat; perhaps you could convince him to see the error of his ways," Kylie replies with a laugh. "And to be honest, I rather liked him, even if he was a little stiff."
“Always trying to do my part”, Rat will say in all modesty.Kylie wrote:"I'm glad my meager attempts meet with your approval, my old friend. I for one feel safer knowing that you've taken this extra precaution to keep us safe."
“Poisonous!” Rat repeats in astonishment. “Why it’s the finest pipeweed you can ever hope to get your hands on! Just shows how uncultured you folks really are! Poison indeed!”Talen wrote:Talen looks one with great interest as the halfling presents the pipe of weed to him. Once given it, Talen takes in a big breath and immediately begins to choke! Sherwood
Sherwood:
The night passes peacefully. Finally the others have all turned in and Sherwood is alone with Lia. He asks her about Eilistraee.
“I’m no expert on elfin religion or the Seldarine (the name the elves give to their pantheon of gods), but I know that’s not how the elves tell it. They say that the Spider Queen corrupted the elves causing a civil war. Those elves lost and they fled into the depths of the Earth to become the Drow. There is no mention of an Eilistraee and I’m sure that most surface elves would be enraged at the thought that their creator conceived a child with a hated enemy.”
“I’m not suggesting that you’re lying. Recorded history is a funny thing as it tends to be written by those who survive or who are victorious. Eilistraee could have simply been written out of elfish history over time. I don’t wish to offend you, just informing you that what you’re saying will not be taken lightly by surface elves.”
“What the Dark Maiden teaches you is a fine way to live your life. I don’t think anyone will be opposed to that dogma.”
Sherwood takes a noticeable pause when the subject of his immediate family comes up. It’s not something that he is known for talking about. Even to his closest associates. But no less than Mystra said to move on and that it wasn’t his fault.
“I have no children. I was married, but she was killed-- in a fashion anyway. Her name was Darya and she was a warrior. She was killed by a vampire and became one herself. I was forced to hunt her down… She was incinerated by sunlight until nothing was left but bones. In that state, there were no priests powerful enough to bring her back. That was about seven years ago now. I still miss her so much. It’s like a part of myself has been permanently taken away.”
“There is resentment from some quarters and it varies depending on the race. Beings such as orcs, goblins, and drow are hated, as all they’ve done is cause harm and misery. You and your brother can easily pass for normal half-elves, so you should be all right. I’d advise not mentioning your drow ancestry in casual conversation.”
“I have to admit that the thought crossed my mind earlier. It just seemed to fit the facts. Actually, we’d be first cousins if this were true. Your mother would be my father’s half-sister. The size of your family would grow dramatically if we were related.”
“Of course, I never met my grandfather, so I have no first hand knowledge of him. It is said that he was brave and a powerful mage. He adventured with a group called the Swords of Cynalon along with several other adventurers. James was the King’s Magist and probably the most powerful mage in the kingdom. He participated in the assault on Shadowkeep, the dread obsidian fortress of the Emperor Keln. Everyone on that mission was never seen again. In fact, it is said that Shadowkeep itself vanished and has not been seen again to this day.”
“My father, Jordan, much like your mother, was probably only a baby or a child when that happened. He grew up without a father. The Great War was costly and the kingdom could no longer defend their borders. Orcs and other humanoids invaded from the Broken Lands and humans and dwarves and elves were driven from their homes and lands. Only the Streel River keep them at bay or else they might have pushed deeper into the kingdom. Today we just try to defend what is ours from invaders.”
After the morning meal, we’ll begin to move deeper into the Lost Valley. Lia and Talen can lead the way with Nariya at the point. Kylie and Lila can bring up the rear.
The night passes peacefully. Finally the others have all turned in and Sherwood is alone with Lia. He asks her about Eilistraee.

“No need to apologize, Lia. I am not offended, and I’m sure that most of my comrades were not permanently harmed. The subject of drow is a touchy one to elves and half-elves and not without reason.”Lia wrote:Looking at Sherwood, “Never would I have imagined that I wouldn’t be accepted by my word alone, for it was the truth. If I have offended you or your comrades I am sorry.”
“Exploring and adventuring is something of a tradition in my family. Our roots go back to the formation of Cynalon itself. We even have blood ties to the line of Kings themselves. There have been many important people from my family. Numerous mages as well.”Lia wrote:While on Guard duty Lia will ask Sherwood, “What made you decide to explore or adventure? Do you have any family, a wife or children? Is what Kylie spoke of true of the outside world, resentment of those who are different whether it be racial or color?”

Lia’s question catches Sherwood a bit off guard. The thought that his grandfather had conceived Lia and Talen’s mother had crossed his mind in the earlier conversation. Based on their apparent ages, it was conceivable that James the Red, his grandfather, was also Lia’s grandfather. It also explained why so much of this was concealed.Lia wrote:“Earlier you spoke of your Grandfather whom adventured with Nightmist, Could you tell me of him?” She asks innocently wanting to know more of her bloodline. “If he is my grandfather and yours, wouldn’t that make us second or third cousins?”

I do what is necessary.
Lia
Not knowing how to wake the little halfling up she will merely say, while shaking her head, “Something tells me you could sleep through anything….” With that being said Lia leaves Rat to himself and goes about her nightly rituals.
“What you say is true, the drow are corrupt with visions of power and greed. From what I was taught The father of Elves conceived a child with the Spider Queen, whether that was before or during or after this civil war I cannot say.”
“No offense taken,” she says with an easy smile. “ Then in time I hope that the do believe in what we teach, if they wish to learn and look past themselves and old grudges.”
“So I have noticed,” she says with a touch of sadness in her voice.
"I will not speak of my drow ancestory as you say. At least not around those that may seek to wish me or my comrades harm."
After their watch Lia will do here nightly ritual explaining to Nariya what she will be doing and begin her prayers by lightly singing and dancing about a sucluded area.
As daybreaks Lia is already up,(she only needs 4 hrs sleep for spells) and is ready when the others wish to move out. Taking up her crossbow she will walk with Talen at the front to lead them to their village.
Lia wrote:“Well then, Perhaps you would like some water?” she says with a mischievous grin as she remembers doing this to her brother countless times to wake him up. Taking her wineskin that is full with water. She will then spill some water about his face while saying,” Come rat, it is time to wake.”
As Rat goes into his antics Lia sadly doesn’t know what to make of the spectical before her. She is torn between laughing and astonsihment as she has never seen any being sleep through water on their face.rat wrote:Still in a dream-like state, Rat reacts to having cold water poured on him.

Lia listens to Sherwood respectfully as he explains the outside worlds views of legends and history of the past. Sadly she thinks to herself why could they not have this meeting earlier.Sherwood wrote:“I’m no expert on elfin religion or the Seldarine (the name the elves give to their pantheon of gods), but I know that’s not how the elves tell it.
Sherwood wrote:“No need to apologize, Lia. I am not offended, and I’m sure that most of my comrades were not permanently harmed. The subject of drow is a touchy one to elves and half-elves and not without reason.”
“So I have noticed,” she says with a touch of sadness in her voice.
Lia’s expressions soon lighten and a warm smile forms across her face. “I always hoped to have a large family. It hasn’t been the same since we lost our parents.” when she says parents her features are downcast.Sherwood wrote:“I have to admit that the thought crossed my mind earlier. It just seemed to fit the facts. Actually, we’d be first cousins if this were true. Your mother would be my father’s half-sister. The size of your family would grow dramatically if we were related.”
A look of sheer pity and sorrow strike her face as He tells of his wife and her fate. “I’m sorry for your lose. It must be very hard, but Mystra is right, you shouldn’t blame yourself. You should cherish the time that you had with her and soon the pain will fade. That is how I dealt with my parents death.”Sherwood wrote:“I have no children.
"I will not speak of my drow ancestory as you say. At least not around those that may seek to wish me or my comrades harm."

Nariya:
After their watch Lia will do here nightly ritual explaining to Nariya what she will be doing and begin her prayers by lightly singing and dancing about a sucluded area.
Nariya is interested, listening to what Lia tells her, but does not interfere. Prayer is a private thing, and she does not want to disturb, plus she has a duty to remain vigilant since it appears Rat will be of no help this night.
After the morning meal, we’ll begin to move deeper into the Lost Valley. Lia and Talen can lead the way with Nariya at the point. Kylie and Lila can bring up the rear.
Nariya finds nothing unusual having penetrated their campsite, and she had been skeptical that anything would. Still, precautions are always worth taking. The night air was chill, but refreshing. She donned an extra layer for the chillest of hours, but the air was so crisp and clean. Every night should be spent outside.
Nariya collects up her gear, saying little to any of the others beyond a morning greeting. Then she joins Lia and Talen up front and is all business. It may be home to the pair, but to her, this is new territory and she will not be lax on her duty to the group.

New Beginnings
Kylie:
Her shift with Lilia passes with no troubles arising, as is true of the other watch shifts as well. In truth, it is quite a pleasant night, if cold. The early morning hours give Kylie a chance to restore any spells she's used and spend a little time contemplating the deeper mysteries.
The others rise shortly after dawn. Kylie has put together a light but nutritous meal to get them started. Once underway, she is happy with her position in the rear of the group, as it allows her to keep an eye out in all directions.
Rat's words bring a smile to Kylie's face. It has been too long since she has spent time with her first mentor, and she finds that she misses his entertaining outlook. Kylie gives him a big hug, just for being him.Rat wrote:“Well, that’s different! Any friend of yours is a friend of mine!”
“Always trying to do my part”, Rat will say in all modesty.
Hearing the comment, Kylie spins and gives the drow-kin a strange look before turning back to her work of cleaning up. She doesn't know what to make of the comment, and would rather not display her embarrassment for all the world to see. Her mind whirls with thoughts. Does he like me? Is this some drow trick? What do I do?Talen wrote:Later, the one called Kylie creates a fantastic meal that everyone seems to appreciate. “Wow! Beautiful and can cook too!” An embarrassed look comes to Talen’s face when he realizes that he just said that aloud!

Yusef:
"Take your time, observe and learn. Keep your mind and thoughts fluid, as there will always be something new over the next hill. Help people wherever you can, but try not to absorb their prejudices or limitations. Try not to jump to conclusions, as hasty judgements almost always prove wrong.
"Most importantly, be true to yourself and your beliefs in all things. There are many temptations and trials in the world; many experiences and opportunities that can lead you astray. It can be so very easy to head down what appears at first to be a moral path, only to find later that you've slipped into a morass from which you may never extract yourself."
Yusef nods. "I am inclined to agree with you, Talen. It would be fascinating to meet them, but it seems that is not destined to happen."Talen wrote:“They are unique beings”, Talen will simply say.
Talen wrote:Later, the one called Kylie creates a fantastic meal that everyone seems to appreciate. “Wow! Beautiful and can cook too!” An embarrassed look comes to Talen’s face when he realizes that he just said that aloud!
Yusef notes the exchange between Talen and Kylie with detached interest. It will be interesting to see how things play out between these two.Kylie wrote:Hearing the comment, Kylie spins and gives the drow-kin a strange look before turning back to her work of cleaning up. Talen's question causes Yusef to consider for several long moments. It is far more complex than it sounds on the surface. "First off, I would warn you that the world is vast beyond what you likely imagine. Few people are ever likely to see more than a tiny piece of the whole in one lifetime.Talen wrote:“I have so many questions, that I don’t really know where to begin. We know that we’ve led a sheltered existence. That’s partially why we’re going out into the world now that we’re old enough to fend for ourselves. In your opinion, what do you think we should know?”
