Reinforcements have arrived at the Vesubian Gatehouse, along with two more Corunglain defenders in the form of the ranger Rathlar and the dwarven warrioress Aria Stonehand. Introductions are made and stories are exchanged. A plan to attack the two entry points the humanoids use to enter the city is finalized.
Rathlar will pause, as if in deep thought, when he hears the name Opikus.
"That name is known to me", he will state. "I've heard tales of a mage by that name from a distant land who settled far to the northwest in the Broken Lands. It is said that he dwells in a placed called the Valley of Fire. Fire Giants are also believed to live in the area. There has never been any trouble with this Opikus before."
Grondar wrote:"Pebbles, a fine name, that," Grondar says with a grin. "I would be happy to tell you if you would care to walk with me." Taking Pebbles reigns, he leads the mule toward the stables.
"Some weeks ago now, Lord Sherwood recruited me to join a band of adventurers he and Lord Validar over there," he gestures, "were assembling. With the church's blessing, I agreed and made the trip to Pyris where we all met. We have been travelling and fighting pretty much ever since.
"And you, milady?"
"I've been carrying on with the family tradition," Aria says. "There have been numerous warriors of renown in my bloodline and I'm trying to live up to that. I've spent the last year here in Corunglain helping defend the city against humanoid attacks. When finished here, my aim to relocate some of the lost dwarven cities in this region."
Dusk is sent to deliver a message to Arocken at the West Gatehouse, followed later on by Sherra. Lord Corley, Arocken and Sherra return to the Vesubian Gatehouse, while fifty soldiers go to reinforce the West Gatehouse. Instructions on the location of the second humanoid entry point are passed on to Drakkimor and his band.
The Guardians set forth to the warehouse Valena suspects as being one of the entry points into the city. The streets of Corunglain are strangely quiet this morning and everything is covered in snow. There is no sign of anyone out in the streets and no tracks are found in the snow.
Valena and Rathlar lead the group to the south and east of the Vesubian Gatehouse. They avoid the main streets and the group trudges through the snow.
As you get closer to the target, the group starts to pass through warehouses. You find each warehouse to be deserted, but it appears that numerous creatures have been here recently. Most of the warehouses have been emptied of their goods and there are sings of broken crates and damaged goods here and there.
It remains suspiciously quiet even as you pass through the warehouse directly next to the target one. Scouts are sent out for reconnaissance and each return with similar reports.
The outside of the warehouse in question is deserted and there are not even tracks in the snow. Apparently the goblinoids have yet to venture back out into the city! Each, however, believes that there are a few enemy troops inside the warehouse.
The Guardians split up and prepare to move in. Sniper positions are not taken as there's not anything to shoot at. The warehouse doors are thrown open and the group advances inside.
Unlike the other warehouses, this one is brimming with cartons, crates and other forms of cargo. Some goblins are quickly found and easily dealt with. Rathlar's wolves go forth and locate a few of the cowardly creatures hiding amongst the stored goods. There were about a dozen goblins in all.
Near the center of the warehouse you find a gigantic tunnel opening in the floor. It angles downward into the depths of the earth and is large enough for open wagons to traverse, which numerous tracks in the area will indicate has happened. Three such wagons sit near the opening and are only partially loaded up with cargo.
The tunnel itself is wide and seems stable. Lit torches provide luminance about every thirty feet or so along the way. You can't see the end of the tunnel and no creatures are currently in it. It slopes downward at about a thirty degree angle.
