Crucible #42 - "Sanctuary"


Martial Law has been declared in San Diego and the National Guard and Army have been called in to restore order. The assistance of the heroes was not requested and they have returned to the small island in North San Diego Bay that is the sentient being known as Edgar. Later that evening, Metalla, the metallic skin official from Sanctuary lays out that organizations tentative plans to render aid to San Diego.

Sanctuary would claim this island and establish an embassy here. (The United Nations has given Sanctuary nation status, making them a country unto themselves, at least on paper.) This action would prevent the Army, or any other government agency, from exploring the island and discovering the existence of Edgar.

A small medical team would be stationed here along with a second branch of the Young Champions supers-in-training program. Sapphire would continue to serve as security. Metalla's proposal brings a round of questions.

Raising his hand he waits to be acknowledged and then begins, "Though I cannot comment on the situation on the being known as Edgar, I believe that Having Sanctuary here as well as the aid that they would provide would be an asset we shouldn't overlook. From what I saw on the TV as well as in my travels there are many that need assistance. How would one go about applying for The San Diego branch of Sanctuary?"

"To join Sanctuary you have to fill out an application. Everyone with super powers is welcomed to join. We turn no one away, although there have been many who didn't follow our rules and were barred from Sanctuary. The rules themselves are not that hard to follow and are mostly common sense."

He will soon afterward greet Yu and asks the blobbed being, "How is everything Yu?"

"Yu well!", the pulsating blob will state. Frostbite is speaking to one of the elongated eyes stakes and mouths of Yu. The main body of the nice demon is down inside the well. (Basement location #7 on the Castle Map.) It stretches its eyes and mouths around the castle to keep tabs with what is going on.

The castle cheers her up again and she speeds off the platform to go check out everything! Apparently a meeting begins soon, and it even sounds important, but she continues to race about and let the older heroes talk about things.

Tilt whizzes about the island exploring. The structure does indeed seem much like a medieval castle. Power generators were set up to provide electricity to the equipment that was brought from Sanctuary. (The castle map on the Crucible Reference page details the layout of the castle.

Probably to both Tilt and Backlash's surprise, there is a concealed elevator in the basement that takes you down to several hidden levels underneath the castle. These were fashioned by Edgar last night and feature quarters for all members of the Vigilant, a training area, and a communications and meeting room.

Lily:

Making their way back to the Castle, it becomes apparent at the waters edge that neither Blackout nor Tilt-A-Whirl need her help, as Edgar's floating disks await them. Thus, she flies on ahead, anxious to see her daughter once again.

Locating Rose first, Lily gives her a big hug. "Hey sweetheart! How are you? Did you have a good time while we were gone? Did you meet any new people?

Rose flies towards Lily and hugs her back. "I'm fine, mommy! It's been quiet here since the big robots attacked. They were scary and no one new has shown up since they were here."

"Oh, and I've decided to take on one of those code names that metahumans often use now that I'm a member of the Vigilant: Menagerie. Do you like it? It seemed to fit my new abilities."

"Men-age-aerie?" Rose repeats trying to say the unfamiliar word. "What's that?"

Reaching down, she tousles Bullet's hair. "And how are you doing, Bullet? Thank you for playing with Rose; I'm sure she had a good time."

"Yeah, it was fun", Bullet will say. "I should be getting back home before my folks start to worry. Bye!" With that Bullet will shrink down to his namesake size and streak off.

Lily notes the young woman with the strange eyes. Approaching, she offers her hand. "Hello. I don't believe we've met. I go by the name of Menagerie, now that I've suddenly become a metahuman. How long have you been a metahuman? I just got my new powers yesterday."

The young woman is obviously shaken from her transformation and is reluctant to talk. She'll eventually say that her name is Sally and she was changed like this yesterday as well. She's hoping to be cured before she does something rash.

Flux and the other Vigilant members arrive via Protectors' plane. Lily greets them each in turn, and answers any questions they have regarding her group's activities. She notes Frostbite speaking with Yu, so she goes to join them. "Hi, Yu! How nice to see you again. How have you fared since we last saw you?"

"Yu well!", Yu will say to Lily. "Quiet. Peaceful. Nice."

Lily turns and addresses her next question to Tigress. "From what I have read on the Internet, it seems the Young Champions have a rather adventurous past. However, some of the younger new metahumans - such as my daughter - are too young to be in that kind of danger. What kind of program do you envision for kids like Rose and Bullet?"

"We never take anyone out for field training before we feel they are ready, ma'am. They would be treated like any other applicant. First we work to identify what they can do and help them be able to safely utilize their powers. We've never really had anyone this young before in the program. As Rose's legal guardian we'd need your permission to do any field testing, but as I said earlier, that would be a long time off."

[GM Mad]

"Welp, it sounds good to me. We need to keep Edgar safe so that he can help others. Does that mean that Jen is going to stay too?"

"That would be up to her", Gladiator will say. "She's come a long way since we first encountered her. She's a remarkable young lady."

"I have some. When you say Sapphire will be the head of your security forces here, does that mean there will be a security staff? Are there going to be separate areas for each grouping, i.e. the Young Champions, Sanctuary, the Vigilant, ect?"

"Sapphire is the entire security staff at this point. Her primary function would be to protect the medical staff-- those working for Sanctuary who do not have powers themselves. By extension, she would be working to protect Edgar as well. Separate areas for each division is not something we discussed just yet, but it does make sense."



Eldrich seeks out Edgar about the blank books in the library. "I was instructed by my previous controller, the Warlord, to take the form of a castle, one which I drew from his memory. He had a library, but was unaware of the contents of the books therein. Thus, I could only duplicate the outside the books, not what was inside. I am sorry, sir."


Shortly after arriving, Starguard will come up to Flux. "It's been an eye opening experience", the man in the starry armor states, "but I must now be going. There are other matters I have to deal with elsewhere in the world. I've given Edgar a means to reach me should you need my assistance again. Best of luck!"


Still later that evening, Edgar will step up to Goldstar. "Ms. Goldstar, if you have no plans for the evening, I have several tasks that I could use your assistance with."

Considering what the metallica women has said he will reply, "Sounds simple enough. What are some reasons for getting barred from Sancuatary? If you dont mind me asking. Could I look at the application after we are finished here?"

"We never take anyone out for field training before we feel they are ready, ma'am. They would be treated like any other applicant. First we work to identify what they can do and help them be able to safely utilize their powers. We've never really had anyone this young before in the program. As Rose's legal guardian we'd need your permission to do any field testing, but as I said earlier, that would be a long time off."

"How would you go about testing the new applicants? Something like weight training and such?"

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Tilt-A-Whirl:

Probably to both Tilt and Backlash's surprise, there is a concealed elevator in the basement that takes you down to several hidden levels underneath the castle. These were fashioned by Edgar last night and feature quarters for all members of the Vigilant, a training area, and a communications and meeting room.

Grinning like she just found Mom's secret homemade cookie stash, Tilt rides the elevator, pushing every button gleefully at once to stop at every floor. When the elevator door opens, she rushes out and checks the whole floor quickly before slipping back inbetween the closing door to ride down to the next floor. If she misses anything, she'll go check it out later after she finishes the world's fastest unguided tour of the castle!

[Menagerie]

Menagerie:

Rose flies towards Lily and hugs her back. "I'm fine, mommy! It's been quiet here since the big robots attacked. They were scary and no one new has shown up since they were here."

"I'm so happy to hear that, sweetheart. Have you met everyone yet? I see that Yu has returned."

"Men-age-aerie?" Rose repeats trying to say the unfamiliar word. "What's that?"

Lily smiles. "Me-NAJ-er-ee. It's essentially another word for 'zoo'. It seemed appropriate since I can imitate virtually any animal, and thus hints at my new abilities. Of course, I've learned that I can mimic people as well, and can enhance my physical abilities, but we wouldn't want to give everything away. A woman needs to retain a little mystery."

"Yeah, it was fun", Bullet will say. "I should be getting back home before my folks start to worry. Bye!" With that Bullet will shrink down to his namesake size and streak off.

"Take care, Bullet," Lily calls after the boy. She can only hope he will get home safely and without being harrassed by the military.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Sally," she says to the reluctant young woman. "I don't know whether a cure is possible or not, but I have no doubt that the medical staff from Sanctuary will be able to help you. Have you spoken with Dr. Marin yet?"

"Yu well!", Yu will say to Lily. "Quiet. Peaceful. Nice."

"That's wonderful, Yu! I hope you choose to stay around. I'm sure you could be of great help here on the island. Also, Edgar and the Sanctuary staff probably have as much chance of finding you a way home as anyone."

Lily nods. "Thank you, Tigress. That's very reassuring."

Lily continues to listen to the discussions. Many good questions are presented and appropriate answers are provided. It seems they are on the edge of something quite promising here.

When Starguard decides to leave, Lily will say goodbye to the mysterious man. If truth be told, she finds him rather attractive, but isn't nearly so forward as to say anything.

As the meeting winds down, Lily begins to wonder about the feasibility of returning home. The island is nice and Edgar has provided wonderful quarter for everyone; however, all of Lily and Rose's clothing and other amenities are at home. She will ask around to see if anyone has any ideas in this regard. Also, she will approach Edgar and the Sanctuary staff for any suggestions for getting a costume made, preferably with some built-in reinforcement to protect herself.

While most of the new people have seen that Lily / Menagerie is able to change her appearance pretty much at will, she currently appears as a slim, attractive Asian woman with straight black hair. She is wearing a tight-fitting body stocking in jade and violet, with a deep purple cape attached with a golden chain. (see picture in the gallery) Since her daughter has Asian features, this may indicate that this form may be her true one - or at least be close.

[Nemesis]

Nemesis:

Jen, not being high up in the food chain among the Sanctuary folks, finds out what's going on after the big meeting.

Wow, things are really going to be changing! Tigress, Tempest, and Sapphire are staying here in San Diego. That means that almost everyone Jen had grown accustomed to on the Young Champions would be gone. Only Archangel would be left along with all the other new kids: Psi-Lad, White Crane, and Polaris.

Jen seeks out her friends to spend some time with them before she has to leave for Sanctuary.

[Goldstar]

Goldstar:

During the day, Goldstar will spot a young woman rushing about at super human speeds. She does her best to keep up with her, but can't quite do it. Finally, she's able to speak to her.

"Hi, I'm Goldstar! Boy, are you fast!"

Still later that evening, Edgar will step up to Goldstar. "Ms. Goldstar, if you have no plans for the evening, I have several tasks that I could use your assistance with."

"Sure, Edgar. I really hadn't thought about what to do tonight. Since I don't need to sleep, I probably should do something useful. What did you have in mind?"

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Tilt-A-Whirl:

During the day, Goldstar will spot a young woman rushing about at super human speeds. She does her best to keep up with her, but can't quite do it. Finally, she's able to speak to her.

"Hi, I'm Goldstar! Boy, are you fast!"

Tilt-A-Whirl slams to a halt right next to Goldstar, "ohheyhitherehowareyou?"

Realizing she's talking much too quickly again, she'll make an effort to slow down, "um hi, nice to meetcha, i'm Tilt-A-Whirl. boy you're sparkly! yes, i am fast, wanna race?"

Tilt will see other people she hasn't met yet in her whirlwind tour and will make every effort to slow down a bit and meet each of the others, including even watching the speed of her speech.

"Causing trouble is the primary reason for being barred from Sanctuary. Starting fights, using the Island as a hideaway to avoid legal prosecution, and things of that nature. Just don't do anything that is illegal here in the states while visiting Sanctuary Island. Like I said, use common sense."

After the meeting, Metalla will hand Backlash one of the Visitor Questionnaire/Membership Application forms.

Based on that information, field tests are performed with an eye towards developing a person's skills with their particular power set. Each individual is unique and so is their training."

"Yes", Sally will sob out. "They don't know if they can do anything or not. I won't live like this! Like some kind of freak."

"That's wonderful, Yu! I hope you choose to stay around. I'm sure you could be of great help here on the island. Also, Edgar and the Sanctuary staff probably have as much chance of finding you a way home as anyone."

Upon hearing those last words, Yu will begin to shake nervously and twitch. He retracts his eyestalk and projected mouth back to his main body. "Yu no go home! Yu stay here!"

The Sanctuary Staff has all the regular necessities on hand and can share them. As for a costume, they'll say that your best bet, short of making your own, is to visit one of the branches of Superstarz, a company that sells all sorts of variety of costumes. Edgar will say that he can probably manufacture what you need overnight and will ask for exact specifics.

New Day:

The long day finally comes to an end and everyone, with the exception of Goldstar who does not require sleep, turns in for the evening. The morning arrives peacefully and you awake to yet another bright sunny day here in San Diego. The temperature is a pleasant seventy five degrees.

The day is Monday, July 7th. Under normal circumstances, this would signal the end of the Independence Day Holiday Weekend, but with the White Event from a few days back, everything remains closed and shut down. Members of the Army and National Guard patrol the streets trying to keep order.

As everyone rises, they'll begin to note the first of many changes in their surroundings. The private quarters are now larger than they were when you went to sleep. They now more resemble small apartments rather than a single guest room. Each suite has a bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom and den. (The exemption is Lily's suite which has a second bedroom for Rose. She'll also find the costume she requested waiting for her folded up on a chair.)

The private quarters are now on the first sub-level of the castle, having been moved up from the second level. The level itself is now rather huge and divided into four sections. One section is the private quarters for the members of the Vigilant, another for the Sanctuary Staff, and an area for the Young Champions members. The remaining quarter of this level is occupied by the Medical Center.

The new second sub-level as the main communications center, meeting areas, and training facilities. There is a complete gym down there with a pool and a Combat Simulation Trainer, much like the one on Sanctuary Island itself.

There are now two more sub-levels beyond these that were not here last night. The third level is a vast hanger that can be divided up into specific sections. Tilt will find this a great place to run around in.

One area is devoted to VTOL aircraft. There's a large hatch in the ceiling that will allow such aircraft to land in the hanger. Tigress will fly the Young Champions jet here later on this morning.

Another part of the hanger has been set up as submarine dock, but no such crafts are currently there. Yet another area has been configured for land vehicles, but again, no such vehicles are currently present.

The biggest surprise on this level is that during the night Goldstar went out in to the waters of San Diego Bay and collected the sections of the destroyed Minutemen. Most like in large pieces on the floor, while the most intact one is supported by overhead chains. Edgar assures everyone that the Minutemen are inactive.

The fourth level down is to serve as a temporary holding area for prisoners. Right now the man who warped reality around himself but was unaware of it is here and is kept unconscious by way of a process similar to the Hot Sleep that PRIMUS uses on the most dangerous prisoners in their Strongholds. Also down there in stasis is the magically animated zombie that was fought among the dead bodies.

Shortly after rising, each of you will run into an Edgar. (There are now at least a dozen of them around the base.)

"A pleasant morning to you", Edgar will say. "There has been much reorganization during the night, so it may take awhile to regain your bearings. There has been a significant breakthrough in the Medical Section. Dr. Marin will bring you up to speed on that. I also have news of what transpired in the city over night that you may find of interest."

Those who go to explore the Medical Section will encounter an excited Dr. Marin. "This Edgar is incredible! This Medical Area he created overnight is beyond state of the art! There's devices in here that I never even heard of before."

"But most important of all is that we may be able to cure some of you who were affected by the White Radiation! He's created a machine that we believe will be able to extract the mutated DNA from they body and replace it with replicated unmutated DNA. The only catch is that we'll need a sample of a person's unmutated DNA to work from. Anything, even something as innocent as a piece of hair will do the trick."

Bug-Eyed Sally is down in the Medical Section and for the first time since she was transformed, she has hope of a cure. Someone is going to have to go into the Militarized Zone to her apartment and try to find a sample of her unmutated DNA.

"This procedure is untried and untested, but Sally here is willing to try it."

[GM Mad]

In the Main Communications Center, Edgar will play back recordings he made during the night of military communications. In spite of their numbers, the Army has not yet restored order to the streets. After suffering some loses, they have pulled back and set up a perimeter around downtown San Diego. This area was ground zero for the White Event.

Here are some of the highlights during the evening:

There were several sightings of a ghost-like apparition in the Downtown area. It appeared to be wearing a large spacesuit/environmental suit and kept fading in and out of sight.

The being known as the Monster has risen from the dead and walked off, leaving devastation in his wake.

Several unknown supers were spotted during the night who seemed to be assisting the army in their efforts. Chief among these was a man in two-tone green armor who went by the name of Talon.

A woman in royal blue with translucent wings was seen rescuing a unit who were being attacked by a cat-like creature and a woman who commanded the wind. The wing woman managed to draw the attackers off and departed with them.

A priest going by the name of Reverend Moses was able to calm several attacking supers into a more docile state. These supers accompanied the priest for his protection.

A large black man wearing a suit was seen on several occasions battling other supers. He made off with those he defeated and they were not seen again.

Several army units fell victim to a freezing cold woman who seemed to drain their very life essence from them.

There were several high-tech robberies performed by a small, animal-like thief. Those who managed to catch a glimpse of the thief said that it reminded them of a chimpanzee.

Reports state that the Los Angeles based hero duo of the Paladin and Lady Virtuous have been sighted in San Diego. No doubt they are lending aid to this troubled city.

Backing up a bit--
Before the meeting Backlash walks the grounds of the castle getting aquented to his new surroundings. "Might as well take a look around." He says to himself." In doing so he steps onto the elevator and press a few buttons..
Exiting the elevator he steps off as a whiz of air rushes past his face,"Whoa! What was that?" as he turns to look to the elevator door. Seeing the now closing door with the young speedster inside. "Should turn the speed down a notch there Tilt!" He calls after her.

"That sounds interesting, Would a base test be given in the near future?"

"Understandable." he merely states matter of factly.

After the meeting, Metalla will hand Backlash one of the Visitor Questionnaire/Membership Application forms.

"Thanks." As he begins to look over the form."I look it over later, and get it back to you as soon as I am finished with it. By the sounds of it, I dont think I wouldn't join. That is of course if I'm accepted."

Retiring for the evening he soon sits at a desk and begins filling out the application to Sanctuary:

The next morning he wakes up and heads down to the main floor though he seems to have gotten lost while he has slept. "Ugh... this wasnt here yesterday!" he exclaims. "This is worse then a glass maze in a fun house." he says as he tries to gain his bearings.

As he turns around the corner the being known as Edgar greets him--"A pleasant morning to you", Edgar will say.

"There has been much reorganization during the night, so it may take awhile to regain your bearings. There has been a significant breakthrough in the Medical Section. Dr. Marin will bring you up to speed on that. I also have news of what transpired in the city over night that you may find of interest."

"Thanks Edgar, Would you happen to be able to tell me how to get downstairs. I feel like I been going in circles." He says with an easy smile.
Once downstairs he hands his application to Metalla and says," Thanks again for your time."
They are soon informed of their medical breakthrough that Edgar has found,theoritically. "That's great Dr Marin, and Edgar. If it does work you will put many at ease."
"But most important of all is that we may be able to cure some of you who were affected by the White Radiation! He's created a machine that we believe will be able to extract the mutated DNA from they body and replace it with replicated unmutated DNA. The only catch is that we'll need a sample of a person's unmutated DNA to work from. Anything, even something as innocent as a piece of hair will do the trick."

Bug-Eyed Sally is down in the Medical Section and for the first time since she was transformed, she has hope of a cure. Someone is going to have to go into the Militarized Zone to her apartment and try to find a sample of her unmutated DNA.

"If Sally here is willing to try then so am I. I would like to volunteer to go and recover her samples. Hopefully Ill be in and outta there before they even notice."
He will then await if anyone else volunteers for this as well.

[Frostbite]

Frostbite

After a long day's work Frostbite turns in for the night indoing so saying goodnight to those around him. Switching back to his human form as he enter's his room he collapses on top of the bed and begins to snore quite loudly.
His alarm clock goes of and the teenager smacks it from the table.Raising groggly he stretches and yawns while looking about. Stopping dead in his tracks, "What the?" as he notices his apartment has grown in size as well as room. "Looks like Edgar has been busy!" Walking from the Living room into the kitchen then the den a smile comes to his face as he realizes the apartment is all his own,while being a member of course.
Once showered and dressed he makes for the main level though everything seems to have shifted! "Might as well have a look around as he finds the elevator and waits patiently for it. The Bell sounds as the door opens, and the form of Edgar is standing inside.

There has been a significant breakthrough in the Medical Section. Dr. Marin will bring you up to speed on that. I also have news of what transpired in the city over night that you may find of interest."

"And to you Edgar. I love my apartment,you outdid yourself. What other adjustments did you make?"
"He sets off to go to the medical section put stops after a moment,"We have a medical section now? How do I get there?"
As Edgar shows Frosty the way he listens to the things that transpired while they slept."Sounds like it is going to be a long week."

Those who go to explore the Medical Section will encounter an excited Dr. Marin. "This Edgar is incredible! This Medical Area he created overnight is beyond state of the art! There's devices in here that I never even heard of before."

"But most important of all is that we may be able to cure some of you who were affected by the White Radiation! He's created a machine that we believe will be able to extract the mutated DNA from they body and replace it with replicated unmutated DNA. The only catch is that we'll need a sample of a person's unmutated DNA to work from. Anything, even something as innocent as a piece of hair will do the trick."

"You don't know the half of it,Doc. When we first encounter Edgar he saved me from being evaporated by swallowing me into the floor and healing me. I owe the big guy alot for that."
"How would you go about testing it on Sally? And What if It backfired and proceeded to alter her further?" as the Dr Marin looks at him funny he will say." Hey I saw it on T.V, could happen." He says with a shrug of his shoulders.

Lily wrote:
"That's wonderful, Yu! I hope you choose to stay around. I'm sure you could be of great help here on the island. Also, Edgar and the Sanctuary staff probably have as much chance of finding you a way home as anyone."


Upon hearing those last words, Yu will begin to shake nervously and twitch. He retracts his eyestalk and projected mouth back to his main body. "Yu no go home! Yu stay here!"

Shaking his head in disbelief he will turn to Lily,"Now you gone and did it." Approaching where his mouth retreated from he will call after Yu and say,"Yu! you don't have to go If you dont want to!"
When it comes to deciding what to do at a meeting or what have you. Frostbite will make his feelings known. " It was reported last night that a unit of men were drained of their life by a freezing cold women. I have no intention of letting this witch get away with any similiar attacks. I think its about time that this witch gets a taste of her own medicine."
Also at the meeting Frosty will offer a suggestion,"There are many supers here who are capable of helping those in need as well as further understanding their "new" personal traits. Why not give Backlash and Tilt-a-Whirl, a shot?"

[Bruce]

Flux

Shortly after arriving, Starguard will come up to Flux. "It's been an eye opening experience", the man in the starry armor states, "but I must now be going. There are other matters I have to deal with elsewhere in the world. I've given Edgar a means to reach me should you need my assistance again. Best of luck!"

"Thank you for all your help Starguard, It's greatly appreciated. And the same goes for us: call if you need anything."

Flux makes the rounds after the meeting, checking on his team, seeing the new arrivals, ( although Tilt is only an eye-blink glimpse at first until she slows down ) and walking the castle environs.

Entering the elevator Flux notices extra buttons that were not there before and pushes a few, discovering the new additions to the castle.

Well Edgar, you ARE feeling better.

After this Flux will turn in for the night. It's been a long hard weekend and he wants to be up early just in case the Army changes it's collective mind about ...anything.

Upon rising the next morning at 06:00 Flux blinks a few times and looks carefully around.

Bunked down in a guest room-woke up in an apartment-Edgar you are amazing.

Washing up and shaving take no time at all and Flux steps out of his upgraded quarters and blinks again.

...and not the same floor either! That's the quietest quarters shift I've ever experienced since the time the boys moved me to the officers mess after I passed out drunk in '67!

Shaking his head slightly at the old memory Flux meets an Edgar and receives a morning report of sorts.

"A pleasant morning to you", Edgar will say. "There has been much reorganization during the night, so it may take awhile to regain your bearings. There has been a significant breakthrough in the Medical Section. Dr. Marin will bring you up to speed on that. I also have news of what transpired in the city over night that you may find of interest."

"Thanks Edgar, I'll be right there..as soon as I work out where 'there' is." he says with a smile.

"You have been busy haven't you?"

Flux finds the new and improved communications center and listens to the collection of info.


There were several sightings of a ghost-like apparition in the Downtown area. It appeared to be wearing a large spacesuit/environmental suit and kept fading in and out of sight.

"Could that have something to do with the time-altering effects of the White Event? Someone caught in time?"

The being known as the Monster has risen from the dead and walked off, leaving devastation in his wake.

"Just great"

Several unknown supers were spotted during the night who seemed to be assisting the army in their efforts. Chief among these was a man in two-tone green armor who went by the name of Talon.

"Can we get a better idea who these 'unknowns' are? I can guess on Talon."

A woman in royal blue with translucent wings was seen rescuing a unit who were being attacked by a cat-like creature and a woman who commanded the wind. The wing woman managed to draw the attackers off and departed with them.

"Guessing again I'd say more recruitment for Chimera's female band."

A priest going by the name of Reverend Moses was able to calm several attacking supers into a more docile state. These supers accompanied the priest for his protection.

"Well a bit of good news. Let's hope the Army doesn't arrest him!"

A large black man wearing a suit was seen on several occasions battling other supers. He made off with those he defeated and they were not seen again.

"Didn't Tesla and Miss Pak mention something about a man like that attacking them too?"

Several army units fell victim to a freezing cold woman who seemed to drain their very life essence from them.

"Sigh. Blue Steel....a mass murderer now."

Flux feels the loss of troops keenly and a flash of anger at their commanders.

If we'd been allowed to help...

There were several high-tech robberies performed by a small, animal-like thief. Those who managed to catch a glimpse of the thief said that it reminded them of a chimpanzee.

"No idea on that one."

Reports state that the Los Angeles based hero duo of the Paladin and Lady Virtuous have been sighted in San Diego. No doubt they are lending aid to this troubled city.

"Hmmm. They are either helping with the Army's approval or dodging the martial law inforcement. If they have approval then why not the Protectors?"

Moving on from there Flux attends the medical briefing on DNA restructuring, fails to understand any of it, and also steps forward to retrieve samples from downtown.

"No offense Backlash but I can get in and out unseen better than most."

[Bruce]

Eldrich Arcane

Eldrich seeks out Edgar about the blank books in the library. "I was instructed by my previous controller, the Warlord, to take the form of a castle, one which I drew from his memory. He had a library, but was unaware of the contents of the books therein. Thus, I could only duplicate the outside the books, not what was inside. I am sorry, sir."

Eldrich is dumbfounded at this. What sort of pompus fool collects books without reading any of them. What use is that? Stymied once more, Eldrich thanks the High One's avatar and returns to the false scriptorium to study and meditate. He will remain there until far into the night, due to his otherworldly nature, and retire around midnight.

{..and the curse again begins it's assault upon the ramparts of Eldrich's memories, the black tide rising up to draw away all that he is. Again Eldrich tries to hold onto what he has remembered of his past and again it is torn from his grasp. In the midst of this nightly battle he is awakened...}

...by a sudden spike of magical energy from Downtown San Diego.

What...what was that? Magic? Yes. I felt it. Back where the first one occured I must alert...

{..And the curse resumes again dragging him to unwilling sleep and forgetfulness until morning.}

Eldrich awakens late in the day, ( around 9 A.M.)
taking in his new surroundings with a quick look and bounding out of bed.

The High One restructures as he will. I would pause to admire but I must report the magic power I sensed to the others...

Eldrich Steps to where he thinks the others will be and ends up in the wrong level entirely! A quick orientation later and he appears in the new communications center to report.

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Tilt-A-Whirl:

Exiting the elevator he steps off as a whiz of air rushes past his face,"Whoa! What was that?" as he turns to look to the elevator door. Seeing the now closing door with the young speedster inside. "Should turn the speed down a notch there Tilt!" He calls after her.

"what?noimokaythankyou!" Tilt-A-Whirl replies as the elevator doors close. how nice he was concerned about my safety she thinks as she rides this horribly-slow elevator to the next floor.

There will come a point in the night when she will finally seek some sleep. Given a room, she crashes onto the bed and falls asleep as quickly as she seems to do everything else.

Upon awakening, it seems like the whole interior of the castle has changed. As Tilt steps out to explore, she runs into Edgar.

"A pleasant morning to you", Edgar will say. "There has been much reorganization during the night, so it may take awhile to regain your bearings. There has been a significant breakthrough in the Medical Section. Dr. Marin will bring you up to speed on that. I also have news of what transpired in the city over night that you may find of interest."

"ahappymorningtoyouMrEdgar," she'll spout out. "thisissocool!" Realizing she should probably slow down a bit, she tries, "say, can you change this every night? it would be so cool to have a new place to explore every morning!"

With that, she's off to explore once more, racing around the other heroes as they stumble sleepily out of their rooms, but careful not to bowl anyone over.

[Menagerie]

Menagerie:

Lily takes note of Gladiator's response regarding testing applicants, nodding her understanding. Seems reasonable, and hopefully they'll be able to learn more about Rose's powers.

"Yu was here before, Mommy. He makes funny noises!"

"Yes, I suppose he does. And I remembered that you had met him before, which was why I mentioned him by name. I wasn't sure if you'd met everyone else, though." Lily will make sure to introduce her daughter around to everyone she hasn't previously met.

Rose thinks about for a moment and then asks, "What's my super name going to be, Mommy? I've got powers too!"

"I don't really know, sweetheart. I guess that's really up to you, though I would be glad to help you think of one. It might be a good idea to wait until we know a little more about your powers too, as that might suggest something. Also, if you start training with the Young Champions program, they might be able to help you choose one as well. Perhaps you could talk with Tigress about that."

"Yes", Sally will sob out. "They don't know if they can do anything or not. I won't live like this! Like some kind of freak."

"I'm very sorry to hear that, Sally. I really hope they will find a way to help you."

Upon hearing those last words, Yu will begin to shake nervously and twitch. He retracts his eyestalk and projected mouth back to his main body. "Yu no go home! Yu stay here!"

Shaking his head in disbelief he will turn to Lily,"Now you gone and did it." Approaching where his mouth retreated from he will call after Yu and say,"Yu! you don't have to go If you dont want to!"

"Oh! I'm sorry!" Lily calls after the retreating Yu. She joins Frostbite in going to talk to the alien. "I'm very sorry, Yu. I didn't mean to alarm you. No one is going to force you to go if you don't want to. I forgot that you didn't want to return to where you came from; it's been a very hectic day and I appologise. Please come out."

Lily puts Rose to bed close to her usual bedtime. With kids, it's very important to maintain their usual routine as much as possible, so Lily treats it as though it were a weekend. After her daughter is asleep, Lily finds that she doesn't have a computer to use or any books to read, so she goes and talks with the Sanctuary staff a bit more about Sanctuary before retiring for the night. She also talks with Edgar a bit, who offers to make her a new costume. Using her powers, she models the design and colors for him. "I'd also like for it to provide some protection for me if possible, since I'm not particularly tough. However, it still needs to be flexible and allow me to move naturally. I'll leave it up to you to decide what kind of materials to use for that, as I have no knowledge in that area."

Like most children, Rose is an early riser, so Lily is up with her. Waking up brings with it many surprises. The first is the changes in her suite, which seems more like a furnished apartment at this point. Lily and Rose move about the suite, oo'ing and ah'ing over the wonderful provisions. Lily makes a mental note to thank Edgar for all of this.

The second surprise is the costume on the chair in the living room area. Lily wasn't really certain if Edgar was going to be able to do that in just one night, but it seems he did. Trying it on, she finds that it fits wonderfully. She feels around it trying to identify the fabric and and protective padding that may have been added. Lily also tries changing to both human and animal forms to make sure that it will work with her powers.

Leaving their suite brings yet another surprise: the entire base has been redesigned! Edgar has been a very busy entity!

Fortunately, they soon encounter an Edgar as they wander around. Lily thanks him for the beautiful costume and the lavish changes to their quarters. Edgar explains the new arrangement of his internal areas so that they can find their way around. Many of the changes sound very exciting.

Since it is on their level, they go first to visit the new Medical Center. Dr. Marin is very excited and tells them about what Edgar has come up with there. Lily looks over and sees the happy look in Sally's eye at the thought of being cured. "I'm so happy for you, Sally," she says with a smile, squeezing the young woman's hand gently. Backlash and Flux offer to try to retrieve the needed DNA for Sally, which should enable Dr. Marin to institute the cure that much sooner.

Continuing on down, Lily and Rose wander around and visit the training facilities. Lily changes into a dolphin and swims around a bit in the pool, more to entertain Rose than anything.

Afterwards, they enter the Communications Center. Lily joins the others in reviewing the recordings from the previous night while Rose plays in the gym. Like Flux, she recognises many of the metahumans who were seen about the town, some of whom appear to be helping the Army.

"We were threatened with being arrested if we were seen on the streets, but they don't appear to be trying to arrest some of these others, such as Talon. Any thoughts on why?"

"Didn't Tesla and Miss Pak mention something about a man like that attacking them too?"

"Yes. In fact, he looks very much like the man we fought. He went by the name of Armstrong, and said he had a contract to collect specimens."

"Sigh. Blue Steel....a mass murderer now."

"Yeah. Sad thing is, she didn't seem to be in control of herself or even really aware of her situation. Perhaps if we can find a way to capture her, Dr. Marin's cure process can help her."

"Hmmm. They are either helping with the Army's approval or dodging the martial law inforcement. If they have approval then why not the Protectors?"

"I have no idea, nor why they were so antagonistic towards us."

[Serena]

Serena:

The Knight awakens early in the morning as per her habit. She quietly prays for a time before starting her day. Her clothes and armor are donned and she departs her quarters.

The change in Serena's room isn't as dramatic as the others. Her chamber was the same as she used the night before on the upper levels of the castle itself. However, it does seem bigger now than it was before.

The same cannot be said for the lower levels of the castle. They've completely changed and seem almost alien to the Knight. One of the numerous Edgar Avatar's approaches her and tells her of the numerous changes that have occurred.

"I do have a question for you, Edgar", Serena says. "I'm finding it more and more difficult to adjust to this strange world of yours. I don't know what things do and feel very out of place. Is there anyway you can help me understand these surroundings? So that I could be more useful here?"

Later, Serena finds herself with the others in the new healing area, although it is nothing like she's ever seen before and that makes it seem all the more alien.

"If this magic can heal those who were changed, then it should be exploited for the good of all. Since Mistress Sally has graciously volunteered to test this magic, then we should find what is need to complete the spell."

"My friends, based on my own experience, I think that we are being too harsh of the Blue Knight. Whatever the malady that infests her, it seems beyond her ability to control. We should return to the Knight's Fortress and see if we can find the spell component that is needed to return her to her normal state. Once that is in hand, then we can figure out how to safely capture her and bring her here for treatment."

"I like the sound of this Reverend Moses. Faith and guidance are desperately needed in this situation. As well as this pair known as the Paladin and Lady Virtuous. These seem like my kind of people."

[Goldstar]

Goldstar:

Tilt-A-Whirl slams to a halt right next to Goldstar, "ohheyhitherehowareyou?"

Realizing she's talking much too quickly again, she'll make an effort to slow down, "um hi, nice to meetcha, i'm Tilt-A-Whirl. boy you're sparkly! yes, i am fast, wanna race?"

"Yes, everyone tells me that. Just part of my stellar powers! Sure! I can't run very fast, but I can fly fast! Although I can fly faster than light in outer space, but I guess that doesn't count."

Goldstar will happily fly after Tilt trying to catch her, but probably not being fast enough. She'll be giddy the whole time and laughing!


That night Goldstar helps Edgar out as best she can. She spends several hours scouring the bay floor picking up parts of the Minutemen Robots and bringing them inside.


Next morning, Goldstar will happily greet her friends once more. "We were busy last night! Edgar tesseracted a lot more space and we've got some new neat areas here."

Should anyone ask what that means, Goldstar will be happy to explain in her own unique way.

"Well, you see we exist in three dimensions right? I mean, you've got your height, width, and depth. Each dimension lies perpendicular to the other. Edgar can generate another fourth dimension that exists perpendicular to these other three and can there for create additional space out of seemingly nothing. So, right now we're inside a hypercube of tesseracted dimensions. Simple, no? Stellar!"

Goldstar will be happy to help as her friends need her talents.

[Backlash]

Backlash

"No offense Backlash but I can get in and out unseen better than most."

"None taken. Perhaps you are correct; Though there is safety within numbers." He will remind him.
"If it is your wish to seek out Blue Steel's samples then perhaps I could help out with that instead." he will offer," Or with this Armstorng character?"

[Blackout]

Blackout:

The discussion that gets underway once everyone is back to the castle fascinates Blackout since he had, up until recently, mostly just been on his own. Probably viewed as little more than a vigilante in the eyes of lawmakers. Getting involved with something as big as Sanctuary offers a wealth of opportunity as well as protection, and Blackout sees little wrong with the idea. "Anything that would benefit us as well as offer increased protection for Edgar would be most welcome. Of course all the added opportunities for research, as well as another outlet for additional training for those with super powers, is an additional benefit to more than just us locally."

Blackout will retire and welcome the sleep after such a long, grueling day. Upon awakening, he is aware of a number of changes, and those are merely in his own room! He hadn't given Edgar anything specific to work with, but from everything he notices, the changes suit him just fine. Stepping out into the main hall causes him to jump back as a speedy Tilt-A-Whirl rushes by. He doesn't even have time to say anything, for she is gone.

"A pleasant morning to you", Edgar will say. "There has been much reorganization during the night, so it may take awhile to regain your bearings. There has been a significant breakthrough in the Medical Section. Dr. Marin will bring you up to speed on that. I also have news of what transpired in the city over night that you may find of interest."

"I've noticed that already, and good morning to you Edgar," Blackout replies. "I definitely am looking forward to learning about all the new additions."

With that Blackout will join several of the others already gathered, seemingly talking about a number of news reports as well as how to help the young woman named Sally. It seems that the night was just as busy as yesterday, and Blackout figures it's only going to get worse from there. "I'm all for helping out anywhere that we deem neccessary. We'll still have to watch out for the lockdown, but it sounds like that's already been discussed in length. I also think it might be a good day, at least for a few hours, to get some training in. Many of you still don't know exactly what each of you can do and it would seem there is a number of different ways to test out some of those abilities here now. I myself would like to get some time in here soon."

Depending on what is finally decided, Blackout will be agreeable to accompany some or all of the team to tackle one of the different tasks. If there is going to be some delay or a decision made to wait for a while, he will go to the training level and begin working on a few things.

Metalla will eye the finished form turned in by Backlash. "Everything seems to be in order. We'll let you know the results. The classes are the ones held on Sanctuary only, so they really don't apply here."


Frostbite:

"How would you go about testing it on Sally? And What if It backfired and proceeded to alter her further?" as the Dr Marin looks at him funny he will say." Hey I saw it on T.V, could happen." He says with a shrug of his shoulders.

Dr. Marin will give Frosty a funny look at his first question, "As I just stated we would try to find some of her old unmutated DNA and use the device Edgar created to undo the damage done to her. More testing should be in order, I do agree, but Sally wants to do this and given her condition and state of mind, I can't refuse her. You'll just have to trust Edgar on this one."

In a much lower voice, Dr. Marin will add, "Besides, its given Sally hope. She was very nearly in a suicidal state last night."


Flux:

"Thanks Edgar, I'll be right there… as soon as I work out where 'there' is." he says with a smile. "You have been busy haven't you?"

"Indeed, sir. It is easier to affect such wide scale changes when I don't have to concentrate on my guests. Thus any alterations are done in the evening when the fewest people are around. At the moment, I do not plan to alter the basic layout any further."

"Could that have something to do with the time-altering effects of the White Event? Someone caught in time?"

"That is a possibility, sir", Edgar states. "The entire area where the bubble formed, an approximately two mile wide sphere, is both temporally and dimensionally unstable. In short sir, what must would consider impossibly could be possible in there."


Tilt:

"ahappymorningtoyouMrEdgar," she'll spout out. "thisissocool!" Realizing she should probably slow down a bit, she tries, "say, can you change this every night? it would be so cool to have a new place to explore every morning!"

"I could do that, ma'am, but it is somewhat impractical and would be most disconcerting for the other guests. I could see if I can come up with something else instead."


Lily:

"I don't really know, sweetheart. I guess that's really up to you, though I would be glad to help you think of one. It might be a good idea to wait until we know a little more about your powers too, as that might suggest something. Also, if you start training with the Young Champions program, they might be able to help you choose one as well. Perhaps you could talk with Tigress about that."

Tigress will agree about waiting. "No need to rush into it. I had my powers a few weeks before I ever decided upon a name. In fact, it came about in a most unexpected manner."

Shaking his head in disbelief he will turn to Lily, "Now you gone and did it." Approaching where his mouth retreated from he will call after Yu and say, "Yu! you don't have to go If you don't want to!"

The pair end up going down the well Yu has been living in as he limbs retract quickly. It'll take much talking to get the demon to calm down once more. For a demon, Yu is incredibly timid!

Lily also tries changing to both human and animal forms to make sure that it will work with her powers.

The outfit changes along with Lily easy enough.

"Most likely they didn't have the chance to try", Gladiator will suggest. "In most of these cases the soldiers were already under attack when an intervention took place. I would say that they are all dodging the law while trying to help keep order."

"I have no idea, nor why they were so antagonistic towards us."

"There are many in PRIMUS who dislike superheroes", Gladiator states. "PRIMUS' primary task is the protection of the country from superpowered threats. In essence superheroes are doing their job and in most cases doing it better. From their point of view, you have vigilantes performing their job. That's bound to cause antagonism. The Silver Avenger we encountered was known for his use of excessive force and that's why I suggested avoiding a needless conflict with him. Once they realize that they are over their heads, they'll come asking for support."


Serena:

"I do have a question for you, Edgar", Serena says. "I'm finding it more and more difficult to adjust to this strange world of yours. I don't know what things do and feel very out of place. Is there anyway you can help me understand these surroundings? So that I could be more useful here?"

"I can create a hyper-learning center", Edgar says. Realizing that a better explanation is needed, he'll add, "It is much like a school, but the knowledge is directly transmitted into your mind. Instant learning."

"Then let's cancel his contract and see just who he is working for." he will simply state.
Not being a member he will excuse himself from the others while saying,"I'm going to see what I can find out about this Armstrong character. Unless your leader would perfer me do something else?"

[Menagerie]

Lily will do her best to settle Yu's fear. She'll encourage him to talk about what he fears and help him to understand that all of the people here will strive to protect him from those things.

Lily nods as Serena's words seem to reflect her own, bringing a smile to her face. Of course, finding a way to capture the woman without hurting her or themselves is likely to prove tricky. "There appear to be several mysteries that revolve around the Steel Squadron. I think we need to focus some attention in that direction."

Unfortunately, Goldstar's explanation serves only to muddle further Lily's lack of understanding of how Edgar has done what he did. Fortunately, she is willing to accept that he did it without the need to understand.

With that Blackout will join several of the others already gathered, seemingly talking about a number of news reports as well as how to help the young woman named Sally. It seems that the night was just as busy as yesterday, and Blackout figures it's only going to get worse from there. "I'm all for helping out anywhere that we deem neccessary. We'll still have to watch out for the lockdown, but it sounds like that's already been discussed in length. I also think it might be a good day, at least for a few hours, to get some training in. Many of you still don't know exactly what each of you can do and it would seem there is a number of different ways to test out some of those abilities here now. I myself would like to get some time in here soon."

"While I have learned a lot about my powers in the last couple days, I could certainly use some training, particularly in fighting - since it seems like it will be hard to avoid as a metahuman." It is clear from her tone that she is not happy about the inevitability of combat in her new lifestyle, but seems to accept it's necessity.

Tigress will agree about waiting. "No need to rush into it. I had my powers a few weeks before I ever decided upon a name. In fact, it came about in a most unexpected manner."

"Perhaps you'd care to tell Rose the story," she suggests. Lily will leave Rose to talk for a bit with Tigress, who is likely to end up as her instructor soon. Meanwhile, she continues to listen to and participate in the discussion.

"Most likely they didn't have the chance to try", Gladiator will suggest. "In most of these cases the soldiers were already under attack when an intervention took place. I would say that they are all dodging the law while trying to help keep order."

"There are many in PRIMUS who dislike superheroes", Gladiator states. "PRIMUS' primary task is the protection of the country from superpowered threats. In essence superheroes are doing their job and in most cases doing it better. From their point of view, you have vigilantes performing their job. That's bound to cause antagonism. The Silver Avenger we encountered was known for his use of excessive force and that's why I suggested avoiding a needless conflict with him. Once they realize that they are over their heads, they'll come asking for support."

Lily doesn't much like the sound of any of this. She lacks confidence in the likelihood of the government doing anything so rational. She also dislikes the need to function surrepticiously until such a miracle should take place. "I'm sorry, Gladiator, but personally I wouldn't recommend anyone hold their breath until that happens. In the meantime, there are many things that need to be done, and I don't know how long we can put them off."

Backlash looks at the iced man in thanks, though no one seems to second the notion. "I wouldn't mind giving a little try out. If there isnt any objection from your other team members."

Lily looks at Backlash and Tilt-A-Whirl. "I hope you won't be offended, but my suggestion would be to offer you both some sort of provisional membership until we can get a better feel for what you can do and how you fit with the rest of the team. Of course, as team leader, it's really Flux's decision," she says, looking over at the quiet man.

"As for our next step, I think splitting up and quietly investigating many of the strange occurances may be our best bet. If Edgar can come up with something like internet access, some of us could probably do a lot of research from here.

"That said, I believe I could get down to Steel Squadron headquarters and take a look around without causing much of a disturbance. After all, the martial law stipulations don't really apply to fish and birds and insects."

"I hope you won't be offended, but my suggestion would be to offer you both some sort of provisional membership until we can get a better feel for what you can do and how you fit with the rest of the team. Of course, as team leader, it's really Flux's decision," she says, looking over at the quiet man.

"Pardon me but up to now I hadn't heard a formal request for anything except membership regarding Sanctuary. That is not mutually exclusive but I didn't want to interfere with your decision making process. If you want to join the Vigilant and work for Sanctuary that's fine by me. One pays, presumably, and the other does not."

Flux smiles and extends his hand to Backlash.

Tesla is glad to be back at the castle, and finds out from Edgar that there is room for her to stay. She falls asleep easily enough. After waking, she sees her room has drastically changed and even more astonishing, heading out into the main areas of the castle, almost everything there has changed as well. After getting some directions, Tesla joins the majority of the group and picks up on one thread of several conversations.

A large black man wearing a suit was seen on several occasions battling other supers. He made off with those he defeated and they were not seen again.

"Didn't Tesla and Miss Pak mention something about a man like that attacking them too?"

"Yeah, although he really didn't put up much of a fight," Tesla smirks. "His contract must be for collecting the old and crippled."

"Yes. In fact, he looks very much like the man we fought. He went by the name of Armstrong, and said he had a contract to collect specimens."

"Then let's cancel his contract and see just who he is working for." he will simply state.
Not being a member he will excuse himself from the others while saying,"I'm going to see what I can find out about this Armstrong character. Unless your leader would perfer me do something else?"

"Depending on much we want to split up our group, I might just accompany you Backlash," Tesla will say. "I would like to put him down a little more firmly this time and see if we can find out who is paying on that contract."

"Well, quite honestly, I don't remember being formally invited either," Tesla will say, trying to remember. "Everything just sort of happened and I found myself becoming part of the team just by being here. Hopefully, when things calm down a bit, we will have a more defined roster and I would assume an established chain of command? It seems to me that Flux is in charge and then it's Menagerie. Is that correct, or did I miss something earlier?"

Seeing two of the new arrivals join the team Frosty will thaw out and shake both their hands welcoming them to the madhouse.

"I can create a hyper-learning center", Edgar says. Realizing that a better explanation is needed, he'll add, "It is much like a school, but the knowledge is directly transmitted into your mind. Instant learning."

Indeed, Serena does require further information. "If I understand you correctly, you have a way to magically give me the knowledge that I desire? Very good. I would request that you cast this spell as soon as you are able. I would be most grateful."

Serena will gladly accept new members into their band of adventurers. "There is strength in numbers and I am always glad to welcome like minded individuals into our ranks. Indeed, it seems that yon city is in desperate need of all the champions it can muster."

"I too would like to see a much stronger leadership structure then what I've seen thus far. Too much time is spent debating on who is to do what and where. Flux was chosen to speak for the group, but everyone has been acting on their own beyond that."

"That said, I believe I could get down to Steel Squadron headquarters and take a look around without causing much of a disturbance. After all, the martial law stipulations don't really apply to fish and birds and insects."

"If you take the form of something large enough to allow a passenger, then I would like to accompany you. We have unfinished business at the Steel Fortress. That coupled with getting the spell components to cure the Blue Knight makes it worth ignoring the Lord of this land's edict. The greater good must always take precedence. I am ready to depart when you are."

"Why, more the merrier I always say!", Goldstar says with a grin. She'll give each of the new members a friendly hug, even Tesla when she says that she hadn't been asked to join yet.

"OH!", Goldstar cries out. "We've already got Internet access here. Edgar can tap into communication lines, so getting to the Internet is a breeze. Splitting up sounds find to me. Where do you want me to go? Maybe I can fly Frosty to find the Ice Lady? After all, his chilling touch doesn't bother me any and it would be faster."
