Crucible #41 - "The Army Takes Over!"


Roll Call: Blackout, Lily, Serena, Eldrich, Tesla, Tilt-a-Whirl, Backlash, Doc Sonic, Gladiator, Psi-Lad, and Polaris


The Minuteman Mark 5 has been destroyed. Chimera used its destruction as a cover to slip away with Dr. Photon and Electra. While those three ladies departed, two new supers showed up: Tilt-A-Whirl and Backlash.

"Doc? You okay?" Lily asks the woman in her arms. Not knowing the extent of the woman's injuries, she flies over toward Serena, whose healing touch has revived Electra.

The woman in the light blue jumpsuit begins to stir in Lily's arms. "Well, this is embarrassing", Doc Sonic notes once she is coherent. "I'm okay. My battlesuit doesn't handle sonic attacks very well. It generates feedback and it just stunned me. I'm fine. Really. You can set me down now."


Once more the excitement settles down and the heroes turn back to the grim task of sifting through the rubble of the ADT building. Time passes and more bodies are uncovered.

All the 'normals' in the building were killed in the collapse. This includes the regular ADT security staff (who were done in by an Engineer controlled cyborg long before the collapse), PRIMUS Agents, and GENOCIDE Agents.

Several of the 'supers' are found dead as well. This includes the Aviator and Silver Avenger Rackham who were being held in the prototype cells. The GENOCIDE Agent known as the Purifier is found crushed as well. The GENOCIDE Leader, the Black Queen, is just barely alive. While her human parts took a beating, her cyborg body withstood the attack just fine.

Speaking of cyborgs, two of them will have survived the collapse. The two that the heroes fought earlier. The ones that were not woken up perished under tons of rock and metal.

Ominously, neither the bodies of Devilspawn nor the Denier was found. That accounts for everyone known to be inside the building when it went down. Fire & Ice just barely escaped under his own power as did Electra.


Hovering overhead, Tesla can see several military choppers flying towards here. They are just some of a much larger unit that is arriving in San Diego from the north. The army has arrived! Some are simply troop transports while others are combat choppers.

Four of the troop transports land as close as they can to the collapse. Dozens of armed soldiers rush forth to secure the area. From one of the choppers a large man emerges. He's wearing the uniform of a PRIMUS Silver Avenger. He stands a solid 6'5" and is excessively muscular with dark blonde hair cropped short. He approaches.

"I am Silver Avenger Alex Richardson and this area is now under martial law! By order of General Hawthorne, all unauthorized personal are to vacate the area or they will be arrested. You have five minutes to comply!"

"Excuse me", Doc Sonic calls out. "I'm Doc Sonic of the Protectors. We're here to--"

"I know who you are", Silver Avenger Richardson says cutting off Doc Sonic. "That's why I didn't arrest you and your associates out of hand. Four minutes, forty-five seconds left."

Roll Call: Flux, Frostbite, Goldstar, Nemesis, Starguard, Quasar, Helios and Maelstrom


Out in Death Valley, a momentary lull in the action follows after Flux levels the Mark 7. The giant robot was driven head first into Mechanon's secret base. In spite of the Mark 7 being down, the assault on it does not let up!

Kilbots swarm in and continue to attack the Mark 7. Giant-sized Flux slaps one of the Mechanon knock off's way sending it flying out over the desert. Helios brings his flames to play and gleefully begins to blast Kilbots left and right. They begin to melt under the onslaught.

Maelstrom delivers the final blow. His thunderstorm generates another bolt of lightning and it rips into the Mark 7. Its defensive force field has been altered to block physical assaults thanks to Flux's attack leaving it wide open for another lightning strike.

A large chunk of the giant robots back explodes under the onslaught sending razor sharp metal flying. Secondary explosions tear through the Mark 7 ensuring its destruction!

In short order the battle seems to be over with. The Mark 7 is destroyed and the remaining Kilbots dealt with.

Up in the sky Quasar notes the arrival of military transports and alerts those on the ground. The transports are guarded by several Blackhawk helicopters. They draw closer and then will set down outside the now quiet Mechanon base.

Armed PRIMUS agents depart the transports, reinforced with Iron Guard operatives. Their leader, Silver Avenger Joseph Gray of the Los Angeles branch of PRIMUS walks among them.

"Looks like you boys saved us some work here", Gray notes seeing the destroyed Mark 7 and the heavily damaged base. "Thanks. We'll take it from here."


Elsewhere, Nemesis quickly comes around from being wounded. Her body rapidly heals the damage done and she's showing no ill effects from the attack.

As you may have noticed, I'm beginning to wind down the 2nd day of Crucible. I bet you can't wait to see what happens tomorrow!

Now what?

[Menagerie]

Lily:

Serena will simply nod at Lily's words. She can't be so sure how their next encounter will play out to comment on it. Seeing Lily bring the one called Doc Sonic closer, Serena will heal the woman if need be.

Serena examines the woman in Lily's arms, but Doc Sonic stirs and claims to be okay. "Alright," Lily says, setting the woman down. "Glad to hear you weren't seriously hurt."

Odd. Lily cannot be Lily now that she is a metahuman? I will have to ask later what this means.

Lily notes the questioning look on Eldrich's face as she introduces herself to the newly-arrived metahumans. However, he doesn't say anything, so Lily leaves it for a later time.

As they dig through the remains of the ADT building, they find numerous bodies. Virtually everyone without metahuman abilities was killed, as were some of the metahumans - including Silver Avenger Rackham. A mere handful of the metahumans survived, and more worrysome, there is no sign of Devilspawn or the Denier!

The US military arrives in force, led by another Silver Avenger. They are ordered to leave the area, over Doc Sonic's protest. "Clearly, the time has come for us to depart," Lily says to the others. "Anyone need a lift; we still need to locate the two missing Mark 5's?"

[Blackout]

Blackout:

"I am Silver Avenger Alex Richardson and this area is now under martial law! By order of General Hawthorne, all unauthorized personal are to vacate the area or they will be arrested. You have five minutes to comply!"

"Excuse me", Doc Sonic calls out. "I'm Doc Sonic of the Protectors. We're here to--"

"I know who you are", Silver Avenger Richardson says cutting off Doc Sonic. "That's why I didn't arrest you and your associates out of hand. Four minutes, forty-five seconds left."

Blackout had been pleased to know additional friendly forces were arriving on scene. However, things quickly turned and they aren't so friendly after all. Debating on whether or not to offer up a sly remark or just plunge Silver Avenger Richardson into a globe of darkness, Blackout decides to do neither.

The US military arrives in force, led by another Silver Avenger. They are ordered to leave the area, over Doc Sonic's protest. "Clearly, the time has come for us to depart," Lily says to the others. "Anyone need a lift; we still need to locate the two missing Mark 5's?"

"If we're moving fast then I could use a lift, otherwise I can probably keep up with my swing line if we're going to be searching for the Mark 5's," Blackout responds.

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Tilt-A-Whirl:

Some military guys show up and one of them seems sour faced and rude.

"I am Silver Avenger Alex Richardson and this area is now under martial law! By order of General Hawthorne, all unauthorized personal are to vacate the area or they will be arrested. You have five minutes to comply!"

"Excuse me", Doc Sonic calls out. "I'm Doc Sonic of the Protectors. We're here to--"

"I know who you are", Silver Avenger Richardson says cutting off Doc Sonic. "That's why I didn't arrest you and your associates out of hand. Four minutes, forty-five seconds left."

"somebodyhaspoopypants!" Tilt-A-Whirl exclaims and looks around at everyone. They seem to be going robot hunting and that's not a very fun sounding idea. She's been chased enough for one day. Plus they all seem like part of a team and she hasn't been invited yet.

If no one says anything else to her however, she will make sure to be longggg gone before grumpy Richardson reaches zero.

[Backlash]

Backlash

The leather clad hero lets out a laugh as he barely makes out what the young women says."Apparently they don't teach ya many manners to be an Silver Avenger it would seem." He will say more so to himself then anyone. "Not like there is much here to see anyway." he will trail off as he turns and walks to the others.
Tur
The US military arrives in force, led by another Silver Avenger. They are ordered to leave the area, over Doc Sonic's protest. "Clearly, the time has come for us to depart," Lily says to the others. "Anyone need a lift; we still need to locate the two missing Mark 5's?"
"Im good I think I can keep up with you guys one way or another" he says with a smile

As they depart Backlash will leap into the air and begin bouncing here and there to keep up.

[Serena]

Serena:

"A pleasure to be sure. Though what is the Order of the Golden Chalice? It isn't some cult that tries to take your money is it?" he looks at her quizzically.

"No, the Order of the Golden Chalice is gathering of knights from my home world. It is an organization that does good, much like the Vigilant."


More strangely dressed men in uniform arrive, but everyone else seems to know who they are, so Serena makes no comment. It seems that our help is no longer wanted here, but why eludes Serena.

The US military arrives in force, led by another Silver Avenger. They are ordered to leave the area, over Doc Sonic's protest. "Clearly, the time has come for us to depart," Lily says to the others. "Anyone need a lift; we still need to locate the two missing Mark 5's?"

"Perhaps we should divide our forces into two groups? Those who are capable of hunting the giant constructs and doing damage to them, while the rest of us retire to the castle to see what new crisis does arise."

Serena will make sure to include the new arrivals, Tilt-A-Whirl and Backlash, in her invitation. Serena herself will go with those returning to the castle.

[Goldstar]

Goldstar:

Looking up at Goldstar's worried features, "She should be fine once we stop the bleeding." He will calmly state.

"I don't think you have to worry about that, Frosty. Nemesis heals wounds as rapidly as I do."

And sure enough, she's awake a few moments later!

Then PRIMUS and the army storms the scene and seems to want to take charge of the situation. That's one way to figure out what to do with these people and their dangerous toys!

"I guess its time to go home."

[Nemesis]

Nemesis:

Groggily, Jen shakes off the attack from the Mark 7 and sits up.

"I hate it when that happens!"

Looking down, she can see a hole in her costume where the blast struck her. The wound underneath is already closed and beginning to heal.

"Thankfully I regenerate, so this was just a minor annoyance. Looks like I missed out on all the fun!"

Unsure what's going to happen next, Jen will just stay near the other heroes and if they depart, go with them.

Seriously, I'm looking to start to slow things down and not have a crisis arise every other minute. Give you guys a chance to do some things in your SI's and so on.

I'd also be interested in anything that you'd like to see, or perhaps some villains you want to run into in the stuff to come. You're input is always welcomed!

As I see it, there are still at least two things other than the remaining Mark V's that they need to deal with: the robot/cyborg/whatever in the basement of that building they found the VIPER agents in, and whatever is going on with the Steel Squadron.

Lily will be bringing this up when I post for her.

Tesla:

Tesla almost bursts out in laughter and what she believes she heard the young heroine say. Normally she wouldn't poke much fun at the military, but this time it seems appropriate. She doubts she has any real sway with them anymore, and if Doc Sonic was basically pushed aside, her name isn't going to bring pause to Silver Avenger Richardson.

"Perhaps we should divide our forces into two groups? Those who are capable of hunting the giant constructs and doing damage to them, while the rest of us retire to the castle to see what new crisis does arise."

"Probably a good idea," Tesla remarks, "especially in case the military comes a'knocking at the castle as well."

Tesla of course will be more than eager to keep in the field. The last Mark 5 showed some semblance of defensive programing, and Tesla wants more experience with these robots to see more of what they are capable of.

[Menagerie]

Lily:

"somebodyhaspoopypants!" Tilt-A-Whirl exclaims and looks around at everyone. They seem to be going robot hunting and that's not a very fun sounding idea. She's been chased enough for one day. Plus they all seem like part of a team and she hasn't been invited yet.

Lily looks over at the speedy woman. "Whoa. Slow down. What?"

"If we're moving fast then I could use a lift, otherwise I can probably keep up with my swing line if we're going to be searching for the Mark 5's," Blackout responds.

"I'm not sure how fast we'll be moving," Lily replies. "How about you start out under your own power; then, if it turns out you're slower than everyone else, I'll give you a lift. Sound fair?

"Im good I think I can keep up with you guys one way or another" he says with a smile.

As they depart Backlash will leap into the air and begin bouncing here and there to keep up.

This appears to resolve the issue for the moment.

Lily pauses to consider Serena's words. "Splitting up is probably a good idea. However, I'm not sure that we can retire to the castle just yet. As you may recall, we left some kind of powerful robot-man or cyborg in the basement of the building where we captured the VIPER agents. Something should be done about that before he causes too many problems.

"Also, we know that something strange is going on with the Steel Squadron. I believe that should be looked into as well.

"How about Tesla, Polaris and I go hunt for the remaining Mark V's? Gladiator, perhaps you could take the others, including our two new friends, to see about that cyborg? Then we could meet up at Steel Squadron headquarters. Any thoughts?"

[Bruce]

Flux

PRIMUS. Just as well. Not much more to do here anyway.

"All yours SA Gray. Be advised, the Engineer was in control of the large robot and we haven't turned her up."

Flux returns to normal size as he speaks, taking a last look around for untoward activity.

'Let's board the plane and head back. We've still got a city in need of our service and I want to call in for a progress check from the others."

Erldrich Arcane

Bodies begin to turn up in the rubble, some known to Eldrich, most not. Most perturbing, the demon spawn prisoners are not to be found.

I suppose I should not be surprised. Such creatures as they can depart to the underworld wenever they wish unless properly constrained. I still do not know if magic is truly understood here or is only dabbled in by these folk.

Eldrich's musings are brought to an abrupt end by the arrival of the city guards.

The US military arrives in force, led by another Silver Avenger. They are ordered to leave the area, over Doc Sonic's protest. "Clearly, the time has come for us to depart," Lily says to the others.

"Yes, it seems the city ruler does not value our efforts to preserve order."

Eldrich almost discerns what the young lady said...almost.

On the division of forces Eldrich speaks up for the first time.

"I cannot affect the metal constructs with my magic Lil-,er,Menagerie, so I think it best to go with those who will seek these knights of steel."

[Menagerie]

Lily:

"Yes, it seems the city ruler does not value our efforts to preserve order."

"Such is often the way with politicians, my friend," Lily replies, smiling wanly at her friend.

"I cannot affect the metal constructs with my magic Lil-, er, Menagerie, so I think it best to go with those who will seek these knights of steel."

Lily smiles. "It seems my thinking mirrors your own. We know the Minutemen robots are not magical in nature. However, it is possible that magic is involved in the situation with the Steel Squadron. If that is the case, who better to determine so and follow any mystic trail that may exist?"

Members of the Vigilant, Young Champions, and Protectors along with a few free agents are outside the remains of the ADT Building. They've just finished sifting through the wreckage to recover bodies, only a few of which were still alive. While that was going on, the Army arrives in full force and the group is approached by Silver Avenger Alex Richardson of PRIMUS.

SA Richardson just announced that the heroes were to vacate the area or be subject to arrest. The heroes agree to do this, but then start to discuss what to do next. Whether to hunt down the two remaining Minutemen Mark 5's or re-visit the Steel Squadron base.

Upon hearing this, Richardson speaks up once more. "You people misunderstood me. The governor has declared San Diego a disaster area and the Army and National Guard have been called in to secure the city. As per the orders of General Hawthorne, ALL of San Diego is under martial law. Anyone found on the streets WILL be arrested. You are ordered to return to your homes and wait until order has been restored. No exceptions. San Diego is under lock down. Transports from Pacific Stronghold are already en route to transport any prisoners to that location. DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR?"

Gladiator, leader of the Sanctuary based Young Champions will then speak up. "We should do as the gentleman says and return to the castle. There's going to other issues to deal with and soon. When they need our assistance, they will be in touch."


GM Notes:

Everyone going to go back to the Castle or do you wish to continue on with the activities that were mentioned? If so, then who is going where? Tilt and Backlash were invited to come back to the Castle with everyone else.

The impending arrival of the Army and that the San Diego was under Martial Law was mentioned way back in Crucible #31. (Not that I expected everyone to remember that!)

Out in Death Valley, a similar situation is taking place. PRIMUS forces led by Silver Avenger Joseph Gray of Los Angeles has arrived on the scene to take charge. The battle is over with anyway and the heroes board the Protector's Sky Cruiser and fly home.

Along the way, Flux makes contact with Edgar who in turn patches him through with Menagerie. The latest information is passed back and forth and everyone is brought up to date with the current situation.

First off, my apologies for the lateness of this post. My business is picking up and things are getting hectic.

Because of the lockdown, everything in San Diego has grinded to a halt. No one has to go to work tomorrow!

Because of the open communication circuit, feel free to speak back and forth about what you want to do next. Everyone should now be up to date with what's been going on in each other's part of the post.

In getting this post ready, I discovered that it's been a long, long time since XP's were handed out! And so, without further ado, here's the current batch of XP's! "Probably a good idea," Tesla remarks, "especially in case the military comes a'knocking at the castle as well."

"Indeed. That could lead to a most difficult situation."

Lily pauses to consider Serena's words. "Splitting up is probably a good idea. However, I'm not sure that we can retire to the castle just yet. As you may recall, we left some kind of powerful robot-man or cyborg in the basement of the building where we captured the VIPER agents. Something should be done about that before he causes too many problems.

"Unfortunately, the rulers soldiers do not seem to want our assistance. I can understand the idea of needing to gain control over the chaos of this situation and I would do the same were I in their place. However, I would not simply dismiss out of hand those offering to assist. Alas, if this is the will of this lands ruler, then it should be followed."

Gladiator, leader of the Sanctuary based Young Champions will then speak up. "We should do as the gentleman says and return to the castle. There's going to other issues to deal with and soon. When they need our assistance, they will be in touch."

"The warrior does speak with wisdom. Let us retire and regain our strength. New challenges will present themselves soon enough."

Serena will return to the castle with the others.

[Nemesis]

Nemesis:

Flux is impressed by that and is happy to hear that Goldstar possesses the same trait.

"Hey, I'm a 'superior being'", Nemesis says with a smile. "At least that's what the nutball who created me claimed."

Jen is happy to be heading back to the castle. She'll be able to find out what's be going on with the rest of her friends.

[Menagerie]

Lily:

Upon hearing this, Richardson speaks up once more. "You people misunderstood me. The governor has declared San Diego a disaster area and the Army and National Guard have been called in to secure the city. As per the orders of General Hawthorne, ALL of San Diego is under martial law. Anyone found on the streets WILL be arrested. "Ah, it would seem that we misunderstood. Sorry," Lily says.

"Unfortunately, the rulers soldiers do not seem to want our assistance. I can understand the idea of needing to gain control over the chaos of this situation and I would do the same were I in their place. However, I would not simply dismiss out of hand those offering to assist. Alas, if this is the will of this lands ruler, then it should be followed."

"There are certain legal, social and practical issues with instituting martial law, which is why it is usually reserved as a last option - at least in this country. I'm not certain why they aren't more inclined to work with the established heros, such as the Protectors, but since most of us are quiet new, I can understand why they would be leary of us."

Gladiator, leader of the Sanctuary based Young Champions will then speak up. "We should do as the gentleman says and return to the castle. There's going to other issues to deal with and soon. When they need our assistance, they will be in touch."

"That would seem to make sense, under the circumstances," Lily replies. "Since Rose is at the Castle, rather than our home, that would be my preference - at least as a first stop. I'm not sure whether I'll have a chance to get her home or not, but we'll see."

Flux reaches them via Edgar, and Lily answers the call. "Hi, Flux. Looks like the plan here is to return to the Castle and see what happens from there. What about you?"

[Blackout]

Blackout:

Upon hearing this, Richardson speaks up once more. "You people misunderstood me. "Well that pretty much sews things up," Blackout says. "I can only hope that the army is equipped to deal with those super-powered villians who will probably fail to heed such a condition."

Without much further to add, Blackout will hurl his rod at the nearest available perch, post or overhang while letting the line spool out and begin swinging back towards the coast.

[Tesla]

Tesla:

It's pretty obvious that Silver Avenger Richardson is done playing around. Tesla wonders about the wisdom, quietly agreeing with Blackout's statement, of those in charge to dismiss the aid of established super hero groups, but that's their call, and one they'll have to answer for if it proves to be the wrong one. She's pretty positive they have the resources, but if it is only the regular military and National Guard responding, they may indeed be overmatched should super-powered resistance be encountered.

Tesla will remain airborne and will proceed to return to the castle. If, by chance, she spots one of the remaining Mark 5's, and it's on the direct way back, she'll see if she can get its attention by putting an electrical blast into it.

[Frostbite]

Frostbite

"I don't think you have to worry about that, Frosty. Nemesis heals wounds as rapidly as I do."
"I hate it when that happens!"

"Ah thanks... Would of been nice to know ahead of time so I didnt have to ruin my shirt," he says with a smile" Live and Learn...You werent the only one Nemesis. "
Boarding the plane Frostbite groans as the day is coming to an end a thought comes across his mind. "Do I really got to go to work tommarrow? Maybe we will get lucky and get to sleep in considering."

Flux reaches them via Edgar, and Lily answers the call. "Hi, Flux. Looks like the plan here is to return to the Castle and see what happens from there. What about you?"

"That's for the best, I believe. Full martial law means regular civilian activites are suspended for the duration and now that the army is gearing up we are going to have to take to the sidelines. Since the castle is well suited to house every one for now and we can be reached easily there it looks like the best move. If they want us they can find us there."

And it's a safe bet that work's not going to be possible tomorrow either. Sigh, never did get those clothes....

Eldrich Arcane

Eldrich quietly agrees with Lady Serena but will not comment audibly.

No doubt politics are at work here-possibly some type of court intrigue-a show of strength in times of crisis to forstall a rival's thoughts of taking advantage.

"Let us depart then speedily. If you would like, I will offer you the Step travel to the castle, Lady Serena."

Eldrich will Teleport back to the castle of the High One once again contemplating examining the scriptorium contained within.

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Tilt-A-Whirl:

Lily looks over at the speedy woman. "Whoa. Slow down. What?"

"oh, heh.. sorry," she replies sheepishly.

Everyone going to go back to the Castle or do you wish to continue on with the activities that were mentioned? If so, then who is going where? Tilt and Backlash were invited to come back to the Castle with everyone else.

"acastlereallywow, er.. um.. that sounds cool," Tilt-A-Whirl says, struggling to make herself be understood easier. With the invite she speeds off, but suddenly realises she has no idea where the castle is. By this time she's sped off down several blocks and has to make her way back to everyone.

Upon arriving back, there's probably several heroes looking at her. She will clasp her hands together down in front of her and tilt her head to one side, seemingly embarrased. As she absent-mindly kicks a small stone with her foot she'll ask slowly, "will someone be showing me where it is?"

"No, the Order of the Golden Chalice is gathering of knights from my home world. It is an organization that does good, much like the Vigilant."
"Perhaps we should divide our forces into two groups? Those who are capable of hunting the giant constructs and doing damage to them, while

the rest of us retire to the castle to see what new crisis does arise."
Much of what has been said doesnt completely sink in due to its far fetch origins..."Wow, I cant really say I met anyone froma different world before. And a castle? Now I been here for a long time but I dont recall any Castles in this area, Though it sure sounds interesting! Count me in."
He will also greet both Tesla and Blackout and introduce himself to them.(sorry missed this last post)

Lily:

Lily passes the message on to the rest of the assembled group. She hadn't really thought about it, but he's right about activities being suspended, which would include her job. In truth, she doesn't much like or agree with curtailing due process of law, but there isn't much she can do about it right now.

She is careful not to get too far ahead of Blackout, so that she can give him a lift if he needs it. After all, he may have some difficulty swinging across the open water to the Castle, if nothing else...

Roll Call: Everyone!

The Army and National Guard, coupled with assistance from PRIMUS, have arrived in San Diego to restore order. Martial Law has been declared and everyone is to vacate the streets.

By a variety of means, the combined forces of the Vigilant and the Young Champions make their way back to the castle in North San Diego Bay. Some fly under their own power, while others are carried or transported by more exotic means. Doc Sonic goes her own way to join up with her teammates at a different location.

(Edgar's floating platforms can carry those across the bay who cannot get there by flight or teleportation.)

The situation back at the castle is much more relaxed than when you left. Even the giant blob that is Yu seems at peace. Everyone has emerged from the lower levels of the castle after the Minutemen were destroyed. There is plenty of food and drink to be had for those who need to eat.

The other members of the Young Champions are back at the castle too. This includes Tempest, Tigress, and Archangel.

Not much later, the Protector's Sky Cruiser arrives bearing Flux, Frostbite, Goldstar, Nemesis, and Starguard. The ship does not land and departs to meet up with the other Protectors once the passengers disembark. Everyone can relax and mingle, and in the case of our newcomers, meet other folks for the first time.


A few hours later, the Sanctuary people invite the Vigilant and their allies to a meeting. Metalla runs the meeting, with Gladiator, Tigress, and Dr. Marin. Night has long since fallen and it's late in the evening.

"Welcome everyone", Metalla states. "We've had some discussions about how to proceed in our relief efforts here in San Diego with my superiors back on Sanctuary. This is a unique situation and we feel that if you agree to our plans it will be beneficial for all."

"This island which comprises the being we know as Edgar, needs to be protected against those who would exploit him for their own uses. There are many here in the city who could use our help in dealing with their powers, in training them, or even in counseling them. To this end, here is what we propose."

"Sanctuary would claim this island and it would be our 'embassy' here in the states. This would help protect Edgar from outsiders. The Vigilant would continue to use the island as their base of operations as before. On paper, Sanctuary would own this island, but in reality we would be your guests for as long as Edgar chooses to remain here on Earth. This would also prevent the Army from exploring the island and discovering Edgar's existence."

"We would maintain a small medical staff who would work in conjunction with Edgar to care for those who need treatment. The medical knowledge we can learn from Edgar is staggering and the potential to help others is great. Sapphire will remain as the head of our security forces here."

"Since Sanctuary would have a presence here, we would be starting a Young Champions branch here in San Diego for those who do not wish to travel to Sanctuary Island. Tigress would be the mentor for this new group of supers in training."

There are several people who arrived for medical help too. One is the young Asian boy who took the code name Bullet and a sad young woman whose eyes are like those of a fly.

Backlash

Moving through the streets toward the castle,Backlash and his associates come to a halt near the bay; Where a castle sits in the recently vacant bay.

"I Wouldn't have believed it if I didnt see it myself." he says out loud.

Floating platforms soon appear following the others example he steps up and stands on the platforms. In mere moments they begin moving toward the castle.

The floating disk soon reaches its destination and they begin their treck up to the castle.
Marveling at the castle before him,"This would make a marvelous set." he says to no one in perticular. "How did it get here?"

Upon reaching the main area, he notices many metahumans about though a huge Blob causes his features to contract in a puzzling look. He will begin to slowly mingle with those around him. Upon seeing the food, He takes a Sandwich and slowly begins eating it as a Plane flies over head.

Looking up he notices it as the Protectors' Beloved Sky Cruiser,where several beings depart from it.
He will greet those that just arrived as well and shake their hands.

A few hours later A meeting is called Listening quietly to what has been said about the castle known as Edgar he remains quiet and looks about the walls as if they are about to move.

"We would maintain a small medical staff who would work in conjunction with Edgar to care for those who need treatment. The medical knowledge we can learn from Edgar is staggering and the potential to help others is great. Sapphire will remain as the head of our security forces here."

"Since Sanctuary would have a presence here, we would be starting a Young Champions branch here in San Diego for those who do not wish to travel to Sanctuary Island. Tigress would be the mentor for this new group of supers in training."

Raising his hand he waits to be acknowledged and then begins, "Though I cannot comment on the situation on the being known as Edgar, I believe that Having Sanctuary here as well as the aid that they would provide would be an asset we shouldn't overlook. From what I saw on the tv as well as in my travels there are many that need assistance."
"How would one go about applying for The San Diego branch of Sanctuary?"

[Frostbite]

Frostbite
As the shuttle home departs Frosty attempts changing back into his Ice form. Hoping to regain some of his strength as the heat disapates.
As they reach the castle the plane soon hovers aloft and frosty turns and says,"Thanks for the ride guys, Its been fun."
Noticing it isnt landing anytime soon Frosty will ask Goldstar,"I wanna try something you mind seeing that I dont fall on my face if it doesnt work?"
If she agrees Frosty will Ice slide out the door down to the ground curving as nessicary.
Once reaching the ground he notices the old crew among the huge crowd as well as Yu, who isnt looking as nervous as before.
He makes his way to his fellow Viligant members, "Hey guys, How did everything go here? Death Valley was fun But played major havok on my cold postirrer. Seeing two people among the Viligant he will say,"Who's your new friends?" After learning who they are he will introduce himself.
He will soon afterward greet Yu and asks the blobbed being,"How is everything Yu?"
A few hours later a meeting is called--
"

"Well if it keeps Edgar safe, Im all for it!" he says as he looks around for to the others.

[Tilt-A-Whirl]

Tilt-A-Whirl:

Lily smiles as the young speedster returns. "I'll be happy to show you the way, though you may need to slow down a bit for me." Lily switches back to her Major Star personna and takes to the air.

"okeydokie" Tilt-A-Whirl will follow the flying woman-turned-man until she comes to the shoreline. Thinking about it for a moment, she decides to climb onto the platform because they look neat!

(Edgar's floating platforms can carry those across the bay who cannot get there by flight or teleportation.)

Halfway through the trip, Tilt becomes obviously bored and paces as best she can. Then she flops herself down on the platform and waits as it continues to crawl along at its horribly slow pace (at least to her).

The castle cheers her up again and she speeds off the platform to go check out everything! Apparently a meeting begins soon, and it even sounds important, but she continues to race about and let the older heroes talk about things.

[Menagerie]

Lily:

Making their way back to the Castle, it becomes apparent at the waters edge that neither Blackout nor Tilt-A-Whirl need her help, as Edgar's floating disks await them. Thus, she flies on ahead, anxious to see her daughter once again.

Locating Rose first, Lily gives her a big hug. "Hey sweetheart! How are you? Did you have a good time while we were gone? Did you meet any new people?

"Oh, and I've decided to take on one of those code names that metahumans often use now that I'm a member of the Vigilant: Menagerie. Do you like it? It seemed to fit my new abilities."

Reaching down, she tousles Bullet's hair. "And how are you doing, Bullet? Thank you for playing with Rose; I'm sure she had a good time."

Lily notes the young woman with the strange eyes. Approaching, she offers her hand. "Hello. I don't believe we've met. I go by the name of Menagerie, now that I've suddenly become a metahuman. How long have you been a metahuman? I just got my new powers yesterday."

Flux and the other Vigilant members arrive via Protectors' plane. Lily greets them each in turn, and answers any questions they have regarding her group's activities. She notes Frostbite speaking with Yu, so she goes to join them. "Hi, Yu! How nice to see you again. How have you fared since we last saw you?"

Later, there is a meeting of everyone on the island, led by Metalla. The ideas presented are intriguing, to say the least, and could solve several of the difficulties that Lily has been fretting over for the last 24 hours or so.

"I agree with Blackout and Frostbite that this idea sounds like a good one. Taking ownership of the island to protect Edgar is a particularly appealing suggestion. I may be able to help on the legal end toward getting it set up.

"Also, training and education are particularly valuable for those of us who just joined the metahuman population. I know I could use training both in the legal and combat aspects of this new life."

Lily turns and addresses her next question to Tigress. "From what I have read on the internet, it seems the Young Champions have a rather adventurous past. However, some of the younger new metahumans - such as my daughter - are too young to be in that kind of danger. What kind of program do you envision for kids like Rose and Bullet?"

[Serena]

Serena:

"Let us depart then speedily. If you would like, I will offer you the Step travel to the castle, Lady Serena."

"That would be most welcomed, my friend. I thank you for your consideration."


Serena feels a bit better to be back at the castle. It's far more familiar to her than anything else here in this strange city. The Knight is content to let the others handle the situations with the others. Instead, Serena will retire to the lower levels of the castle and practice her sword play.

She'll greet Flux and his team when they return from their own mission. The Knight has nothing to add at the metal woman's meeting. The others seem to be in agreement with what has been laid out, so Serena has no objections.

Once that is over, Serena will retire to her chamber for the evening. No doubt new challenges will arise come the dawn.


Description for the new folks: Serena stands five foot five in height. Her hair and eyes are brown in color. She wears medieval looking chain mail armor that covers most of her body. Over this she wears a white tabard, a garment that covers her front and back down to her knees, but has no sides. On the front of the tabard is the image of a golden chalice. Her sword belt keeps the tabard in place. On her feet she wears worn knee high brown boots with the cuffs folded down. Large gloves of nearly the same color almost reach her elbows. Serena wears a silvery headband that serves to keep her hair out of her eyes. She is attractive in her own way and those close to her can feel pure goodness radiating from her.

[Goldstar]

Goldstar:

The Protector's ship not landing is no big deal to Goldstar. She'll simply fly out the hatch and down to the castle.

Noticing it isn't landing anytime soon Frosty will ask Goldstar, "I wanna try something you mind seeing that I don't fall on my face if it doesn't work?"

"Shure! What are you going to do?"

Goldstar will watch and follow as Frosty slides down to the ground. Once inside the castle she'll greet the new arrivals with a happy "Hi, I'm Goldstar! Nice to meet you!"

Those looking see a gorgeous woman with long blonde hair blowing in the breeze. Her skin is also gold in color, as if deeply tanned. She wears a skintight costume that consists of thigh-high boots with heels that are red in color. The rest of her costume is a bodysuit without the leggings. It is mostly in red, but the shoulders and trunks are dark blue in color. Large golden bracers are on each arm. What are really noticeable are the little sparkles of light that flutter around her. They are not so bright in the daytime, but would stand out greatly at night. The bubbles just further enhance her beauty and innocence.


At the meeting…

"Welp, it sounds good to me. We need to keep Edgar safe so that he can help others. Does that mean that Jen is going to stay too?"

Flux

Flux has no difficulty departing the aircraft: a density shift to fall through the floor and shift again to flight places him in the castle swiftly.

He will meet and greet any who approach him with a smile and handshake.

Flux listens intently to the outline of Edgar's new potential legal status and the Sanctuary diplomatic offer.

This will substantially increase the living population here on the Isle of Edgar. But it does solve the problem of foodstuffs.

"What do the rest of you think? Any questions?"

"I have some. When you say Sapphire will be the head of your security forces here, does that mean there will be a security staff? Are there going to be seperate areas for each grouping, i.e. the Young Champions, Sanctuary, the Vigilant, ect?"

Eldrich Arcane

Eldrich Steps to the Castle that is the High One with Lady Serena, being careful not to touch the relics of Blood-metal. There are many folk about, more even than before, including the self-named demon, Yu. Eldrich prefers to escape to the High One's scriptorium rather than face all those strangers, especially after noting that none bear any magic auras.

No magic, no magic at all. It truly is as the High One said. Magic is a weaker force here. At some point I must find the few practitioners here and attempt to restore my memories again.

Eldrich Steps to the entry of the scriptorium, and pauses to view all of the well-crafted books so neatly placed on their shelves.

Where to begin? Well, let us see what is here first of all. Perhaps the method of subject groupings will become apparent after a few perusals.

With that thought, Eldrich approches the closest shelf and extracts a book, opening it in what would seem to be both backward and sideways to anyone watching, only to find....nothing whatsoever upon the pristine pages.

This....this cannot be so. This is a finished book, properly bound, not a bundle of loose notes! The pages cannot be blank!

Yet a quick, desperate search produces only more of the same blank pages from every book.

Eldrich is unable to account for this inexplicable discovery. A test for magical Blanking meets with no results nor does a test for concealed writing. Until the thought crosses his mind that of course Edgar made these books and only Edgar could release the knowledge contained therein.

Eldrich goes in search of an Edgar to beg the release of the High One's scriptorium.....
