Sherwood's teleport spell releases you and you each feel a momentary disorientation. This was the first time each of you had been teleported before.
The change in climate is dramatic compared to Rennydale. It is much warmer, nearly twenty degrees warmer. You find yourself on the outskirts of a forest. The leaves have long since fallen, but it is still quite colorful. Off to your left you can make out a small town in the distance.
Sherwood looks around as if gathering his bearings. "This way he indicates."
After a short five minute walk, Sherwood brings the procession to a halt. Stepping forward, he calls out, "Nariya? Are you here?"
Now what?
(There is a map for the Rifllian area now up on the World of Cynalon Reference Page. Look in the Maps section.)

Nariya:
After a short five minute walk, Sherwood brings the procession to a halt. Stepping forward, he calls out, "Nariya? Are you here?"
Nariya steps out of the woods just to their right and says playfully, "Sherwood, is that you? I thought I heard someone crashing around the underbrush."
Slipping a loaded arrow from her short bow, she puts it back in her quiver and secures her bow as well. Pulling on her vest to straighten it, she notices the others with him. "Well, well, who have we here?" she'll ask. "I'm Nariya, and you must be the ones Sherwood told me about."

New Beginnings
Kylie:
The sudden arrival and disorientation cause Kylie to stumble; perhaps it is only her new magic Boots that save her from landing on her rear. Even so, it takes her a moment to get her bearings.
Looking around, she is pleased by the friendly woodland setting. The warmer weather is agreeable as well, and Kylie feels almost like dancing or skipping.
It appears that Lilia has made the trip no worse for the wear as well. Kylie smiles at her elven friend. "Well, we made it."
At his prompting, Kylie follows Sherwood through the leafy playground, humming happily. He stops and calls out for someone, so Kylie pauses to look around. Nariya? This must be the guide Sherwood mentioned.
One moment, nothing. The next, she is there, standing before them as though by magic.
Kylie greets the elven woman. "Hello, I'm Kylie Lanthorn, of Elcadan. It's a pleasure to meet you, Nariya. You must be the guide that Sherwood spoke of. Have you lived long in the area?"

At least she has a sense of humor, Kylie thinks with a grin when the woman ribs Sherwood. Taking a moment to examine the new arrival, Kylie notes immediately that she appears as elven as Lilia. However, she seems to dress somewhat primitively. Of course, not knowing much about elves, Kylie supposes that could be normal.Nariya wrote:Nariya steps out of the woods just to their right and says playfully, "Sherwood, is that you? "I am that very guide, unless Sherwood has been recruiting behind my back," Nariya will reply, giving Sherwood a discerning yet playful look. "I have never been as far as Elcadan. I have lived in this region my entire life."

Lilia:
The Elf Maiden feels woozy for a moment after being released by the powerful magic. The climate is much nicer than the one we just left. The change has a more dramatic effect on her companion Kylie, who seems quite happy and at home in this forest.
"This is a fine forest", Lilia will say as they walk along. "Not quite as grand as the Elfholds, but pleasant nonetheless."
After a few minutes the procession stops and Sherwood calls out for someone named Nariya. Almost immediately, a female elf steps into the clearing. This Nariya is not quite what Lilia was expecting from a fellow elf. She's never seen a elf with tattoos such as Nariya possesses.
"I am Lilliathelionn Allandros of Clan Grunalf. Does your clan hail from the Elfholds?"

Sherwood:
After getting his bearings, Sherwood motions in which direction to head off in. "We are in the Radlebb woods, just to the west of Rifllian, the capital city of the Barony of the same name. All of this is part of the greater Duchy of Kelvin. We're also under forty miles from Alexandria, the Capitol of Cynalon itself."
Reaching the designated meeting area, Sherwood stops and calls out for Nariya. Her response is quick in coming.
To answer Lilia's question, Sherwood will say, "Nariya is what is called a Callarii Elf. They are natives to the Radlebb woods and the central part of the Inner Kingdom. They are not as reclusive as the Vyalia Elves. So in a roundabout way, the Callarii Elves do not hail from the Elfholds to the north."
"As you all know, our destination is the Black Peak Mountains also to the north. Our first stop should be nearby Rifllian for supplies. Then we follow the Windrush river north to Threshold. From there it's into the mountains. We can spend the night in Rifllian and begin fresh in the morning."
"We have a choice when it comes to traveling to Threshold. We can either ride or make the trip by way of river barge. What do you all think?"

Kylie:
Kylie listens with interest as Sherwood answers Lilia's question. She had never known that there were different races of elves. Laucian, Lara, and Lilia had all seemed so similar. But Nariya does seem different from them all, rougher perhaps. It seems she will learn much on this trip. "Sherwood? Are there other races of elves beside these two?" she asks, intrigued.
"I believe my horse and saddle were left behind when we teleported here, Sherwood. I'm not sure I have enough money to replace them. Of course, you mentioned something about summoning horses, so that might eliminate that problem.
"On the other hand, riding the river might prove relaxing. How safe is the river? How much slower would it be than riding?"
"Duchy of Kelvin? Was it named after someone named Kelvin? Is that the current ruler, or someone from long ago?" she asks. Kylie knows very little of the world beyond Elcadan. "I have heard of Alexandria. It must be a very large city. Is it nicer than Elcadan? It must be if it is the capitol. Surely King Victor wouldn't allow it to be such an awful place."Sherwood wrote:After getting his bearings, Sherwood motions in which direction to head off in. Kylie chuckles. "You haven't missed much. Elcadan has little to recommend it, unless you happen to both be wealthy and unburdened by inconvenient morals or ethics." Clearly, she doesn't have a very high opinion of the place.Nariya wrote:"I am that very guide, unless Sherwood has been recruiting behind my back," Nariya will reply, giving Sherwood a discerning yet playful look. Kylie smiles. A visit to Rifflian appeals the young half-elf. One nice thing about this adventuring life is that it is giving her an opportunity to see much of the world beyond Elcadan that she would never have, otherwise. Besides, a little more shopping would not go amiss...Sherwood wrote:"As you all know, our destination is the Black Peak Mountains to the north. Our first stop should be nearby Rifllian for supplies. "Alexandria is the newest, and nicest of the Cynalonian cities. It is nothing like Elcadan, which actually pre-dates the kingdom. Alexandria is wide and spacious, but has more nobles than any other city. Most members of the nobility have an estate in Alexandria. It is highly guarded and patrolled. There's even an elite unit of Callarii Elves there."
"We won't be able to take horses safely into the mountains, so that is why I didn't bring them along. They are also too heavy for me to teleport. There are several spells that can magically summon a mount for those times they are needed."
"Travel by river is very safe in this part of the kingdom. Monster raids in this area are almost unheard of. It would take two days to reach Threshold by river barge as it is upstream. A day and half by horse back."
"Desmond Kelvin was an adventurer who served with Victor the First before he became king. He was awarded what was originally the Barony of Kelvin back when the kingdom was founded. So, Kelvin is the family name and the current Duke is a descendant of Desmond Kelvin."Kylie wrote:"Duchy of Kelvin? Was it named after someone named Kelvin? Kylie:
Nodding, Kylie listens to Sherwood's mini-lecture on the local history and the Capitol. Having all those nobles around doesn't particularly appeal to her, but perhaps it is to be expected in the Capitol.
Lilia joins the discussion of the elven races. Kylie finds the information fascinating, and it seems even Lilia is learning something too. "What are these other elven races like? And what is unfortunate about these Drow Elves you mentioned?"
She turns to Lilia. "Your home is carved out of a tree? That sounds most strange. "Does it not hurt the tree, though?"
"As for traveling to Threshold, I would have to agree with Lilia," Kylie replies. "If it would only cost us half a day, I don't see that as a grievous loss, since it would save us all that riding."

A comment regarding the first post: I believe Kylie was teleported by Sherwood to visit her father and back, after the victory in Twin Forks. Thus, this would not have been her first time.

Post Continued:
After meeting up with Nariya, Sherwood leads the small band to the nearby town of Rifllian. The town itself is much smaller than Elcadan, but much more pleasant than most of the other places that you've been so far. There is a single paved main street that is part of the Windrush Road that follows along the river. The rest of the streets are dirt.
There are numerous wooden buildings in town, none more than two stories high and are spaced fairly well apart. You don't get a feeling of claustrophobia in Rifllian.
What probably is the biggest surprise to Kylie and Lilia is the sheer number of Callarii Elves in town! They easily outnumber all other races by nearly four to one. There are numerous shops and business to explore in town. There is a small dock area on the eastern edge of town where the Windrush River flows past.
The streets are pretty busy for a late afternoon. For the most part, the inhabitants seem healthy and happy. Not many weapons are seen among the passing crowd.
Sherwood directs the group to the Silver Swan Inn. It is a warm and homey looking establishment run by one Stubbs Platterman, a jolly halfling with an infectious grin. The food is good and filling at the Silver Swan Inn, the beds warm and comfortable.
GM Notes:
A wide variety of goods can be purchased in Rifllian. All clothing listed in the PHB can be purchased, but there are things available beyond what is listed in the book. Let me know what you are looking for specifically. Most weapons, armor, and Miscellaneous Equipment can be found. Again, let me know if you are looking for something specific.

New Beginnings
Kylie:
The town of Rifflian seems very nice. Nevertheless, it is a shock to be surrounded by so many elves! Kylie finds herself gazing around at everyone, trying to absorb the atmosphere of the town and its people.
They check into the Silver Swan Inn. The halfling who runs the place seems nice enough and Kylie does her best to become acquainted with the man. Having been trained originally by Rat, she feels comfortable with halflings. She shares a joke and a laugh and a tale with the man.
Of course, their main reason for being here is to ensure that they have sufficient supplies, and Kylie has not forgotten that. The first priority. Working with Sherwood and the others, she will make certain that they have more than sufficient food for the road ahead. After all, one never knows what difficulties will be encountered.
Secondly, Kylie makes sure everyone has plenty of arrows. Considering how many Sherwood had provided before they left Pyris, there should be plenty. However, they will buy more if need be. Optimally, everyone should have two quivers worth, at a minimum.
Once that is done, she heads out for some general shopping. For the most part, she is just enjoying looking at all the fine things for sale. However, she is also still in search of a really nice dress to top off her wardrobe. Preferably, something made of high-quality fabric, perhaps silk or velvet, in a burgundy or forest green. She is willing to spend up to 60 gold crowns for the dress, though it would have to be fine indeed to be worth that much.
Nariya:
Once we enter Rifflian, Nariya will tell Sherwood, "I'll go see about getting us transportation up river and meet back at the Silver Swan Inn." That being said, she will stay along the outskirts of the town until she reaches the docks. Nariya will see if she recognizes anyone that she could talk to. Even if she doesn't, she will secure passage for four including gear.
After completing business there, she will go straight to the Silver Swan Inn. Nariya hasn't stayed at the inn ever, but knows of Stubbs. She will order their best wine and some fruit while waiting for everyone to return. Already having picked up her stashed gear on the way to Rifflian, she has nothing else to do.

Lilia:
After a pause, Lilia will say, "Drow are elves that have forsaken the surface and all things normally associated with being an elf. They live deep underground and worship demons. Their skin is as dark as night and as black as their souls. They are evil creatures who should be destroyed on sight."
After another pause, Lilia will continue. "I am told that Gray Elves are an arrogant and secretive bunch. They live in high mountain meadows and forests. I have not met an Aquatic Elf, but imagine they are like most elves, just adapted to living underwater."
Lilia is equally stunned to see the huge number of elves in Rifflian. She would have not thought such a thing possible outside of the Elfholds. It reminds her of Alfheim Town without the huge elven trees.
She follows the group to the Silver Swan Inn and will store her gear in her room. Another surprise comes from seeing Kylie laughing and joking with the halfling that runs the place. From there, Lilia will just follow Kylie around on her shopping chores.
When the subject of arrows come up, Lilia will give Kylie what arrows she has left in her quiver. "I do not need them with the Manabow, so you might as well make use of them."
While out, Lilia will check out the Elven trail mixes, a combination of nuts and dried fruits that many elves favor for traveling over land. She'll eat lightly at dinner, but will treat herself to a cup of Feywine should it be available.
An eyebrow will shoot up at Kylie's comment. "Have you not heard of the drow? Not even in a tale to frighten you as a child?"Lilia joins the discussion of the elven races. Kylie finds the information fascinating, and it seems even Lilia is learning something too. "What are these other elven races like? And what is unfortunate about these Drow Elves you mentioned?"

"Most call me Lilia for short. Perhaps we'll be able to visit the Elfholds upon the completion of our mission.""Well met, Lilliathelionn Allandros," Nariya will reply. Sherwood does much to answer the question that follows the introduction. Nariya will simply add, "I have never seen the Elfholds, but it must be a wondrous place."

Sherwood:
"Another reason is to give you the chance to get to know each other before any danger arises."
After going over what is going to be needed for the mission to come, Sherwood will let Kylie handle the actual purchasing. He'll relax in his room at the Silver Swan Inn for a change, but will join the others for dinner.
"I could do that", Sherwood will say. "But it is not always necessary to rush to every destination. Teleport does have its limits. For instance, there are limits to the amount of weight one can carry. Most importantly, I need to be familiar with the destination of the spell. There are risks to teleporting and they can be fatal should one reappear inside another object. At this juncture, teleporting to Threshold is not worth the risk. What we are looking for has been up in those mountains for decades. Two days shouldn't change anything. Nightmist is either still there or long gone."Lilia wrote:"Why travel over land if we do not have to? Can you not just teleport us to our destination?"
"Another reason is to give you the chance to get to know each other before any danger arises."
"We have had sporadic drow encounters over the years", Sherwood will add. "They seem to see surface dwellers as little better than slaves to be used for their own ends. I can't really find any redeeming quality to their race."Lilia joins the discussion of the elven races. Kylie finds the information fascinating, and it seems even Lilia is learning something too. "What are these other elven races like? And what is unfortunate about these Drow Elves you mentioned?"
"Very good", Sherwood will say. "If you can find him, seek out a Captain Scylla. I know him to be a honorable man."Once we enter Rifflian, Nariya will tell Sherwood, "I'll go see about getting us transportation up river and meet back at the Silver Swan Inn." Kylie:
"Sounds like I'm unlikely to meet any Grey or Aquatic Elves any time soon," she says with a grin.
Nariya volunteers to handle the boat arrangements, and Sherwood gives her a name to start with. Good. We seem to be dividing up responsibilities well all ready. Kylie smiles and nods to Nariya when she returns to the inn.
Kylie is happy to have Lilia help her with the shopping for food and arrows.
Kylie nods as Sherwood explains his reasons for not Teleporting them to Threshold. "That makes sense. It's probably smart not to waste spells where they're not really needed. You never know when you will really need them."
When it comes time for dinner, Kylie finds that the feast earlier in the day has left her with little appetite. Like Lilia, she eats lightly. If the Feywine is available, she will ask to try it. Otherwise, she'll have juice with her small meal.
"A few times," Kylie admits, "but such tales are often wildly inaccurate and shaded by the teller's prejudices." Kylie listens carefully as Lilia and Sherwood fill her in.Lilia wrote:An eyebrow will shoot up at Kylie's comment. "Have you not heard of the drow? Not even in a tale to frighten you as a child?"

Post Update:
Kylie and Lilia go forth to purchase the basic supplies need for the journey to come. Lilia will be able to purchase the elven trail mix she was searching for. It is a combination of natural foods, primarily nuts, and dried fruits like grapes and oranges. Even better, it will last weeks before spoiling. Afterwards they do some personal shopping.
Captain Scylla will be pointed out to Nariya. He's a typical human for this region with brown hair and eyes and average looks. He wears leather armor for protection and has a longsword sheathed. The captain is currently speaking to one of the local merchants about hauling cargo to Threshold. Afterwards, he'll speak to Nariya.
"A friend of Sherwood is a friend of mine", Scylla will say. "I already have some passengers makin' the trip to Threshold, but have room for four more. It'll cost 20 gold for the lot of you. We depart at dawn."
Later, everyone regroups at the Silver Swan Inn and partakes of a light dinner. The elves will be delighted that Stubbs does have Feywine in stock. Not too surprising as halflings are one of the few races apart from Elves that can fully appreciate Feywine. However, Stubbs will be reluctant to let Kylie sample some.
"Beggin' yer pardon, miss, but unless ye be a full blooded elf Feywine might be more than ye can handle. It does pack a powerful punch that ye may not be ready for."

Common laborwoman's dresses are easy to come by and somewhat inexpensive costing only about 2 gold. A finer gown can be had that is made out of silk. The salesperson will note that the dress can be adorned with lace and ruffles to make it even more exceptional. The base cost of a silk green dress is 15 gold, with the additions costing 10 more gold. The additions would take at least 2 days to accomplish and require at least 2 fittings to get your measurements correct.Kylie wrote:Once that is done, she heads out for some general shopping. Nariya ventures to the docks of Rifflian. Assuming she follows Sherwood's advice, she is quickly directed to the dock holding the Mudlark. The Mudlark is a typical riverboat one might find on the Windrush. It’s about 30' long and nearly 20' wide. A single mast with sail is used to propel the craft. The deck of the mudlark is open, so passengers and crew are exposed to the elements. Cargo is simply lashed to the deck and covered with tarps for protection. These same tarps can be erected to protect the passengers and crew during adverse weather. A single wood burning stove serves as a way to cook meals and provide heat on those few nights where it gets cold.Once we enter Rifflian, Nariya will tell Sherwood, "I'll go see about getting us transportation up river and meet back at the Silver Swan Inn." Sherwood:
That evening at dinner, Sherwood will order a steak with potatoes. It is one of his favorite dishes here at the Silver Swan. When the subject of Feywine comes up, Sherwood adds his own opinion.
"Stubbs does have a point, Kylie. As a half-elf you might not be prepared to handle its potency. I tried it once when I was younger. I slept for a day afterwards and was hung over for two more. It is not a beverage to be taken lightly."
Sherwood will be ready to go in the morning.
"While it is true that such tales can grow out of proportion, drow appear to be as close as living evil as any race can come.""A few times," Kylie admits, "but such tales are often wildly inaccurate and shaded by the teller's prejudices." Kylie listens carefully as Lilia and Sherwood fill her in about the drow.

The Elf Maiden is delighted to find so many tastes of home here in Rifflian. She purchase 8 weeks supply of the Trail Mix for herself and the others to share in. Lilia will end up nibbling on it as they shop, enjoying the taste of the dried fruits and nuts.
Lilia will give Kylie what remains of her arrows. They number twenty.
Lilia will raise an eyebrow when Kylie makes it known that she wishes to taste the Feywine. Being only part elf, she is unsure just what effect it will have on the young girl.
"Feywine is the beverage to gladden the heart and nurture the soul of all elves. It is a gift from the Seldarine themselves. It is said to be made of fermented flowers, honey, and distilled moonbeams. It is a magical beverage that only an elf can fully appreciate, although halflings' tastebuds are refined enough to enjoy its subtleties. The warnings you have heard are true, but it is part of your elven heritage. I do not know how Feywine will affect you, but it is something you should taste for yourself."

Meanwhile she listens to the conversation revolving around Kylie and whether her partial-elven heritage would be strong enough to allow her to enjoy some Feywine of her own. Nariya finds herself amused by the conversation as it progresses. Whether or not Kylie decides to partake of any, Nariya will retire to her room as the hour grows late.

New Beginnings
Kylie:
Taking her cue from Lilia, Kylie will try a few bites of the trail mix. Not really a favorite, but she can see how it could be much better than some of the hard rations she's eaten. Definitely a good choice for when they run out of foods that spoil faster.
Unfortunately, she doesn't have 2 days for fittings and additions. Kylie decides the pay for the plain green dress for now. She has the seamstress take measurements, so that they can work on it this evening. In the morning, she will return and pick it up before they leave. It won't be perfect, and it will still be plain, but the color suits her and it will fit well enough. She can always have it decorated and adjusted if they return later.
Both and Lilia and Sherwood explain the nature of the Drow. They sound like nasty creatures indeed. Hopefully, she won't meet any in her travels.
Between Stubb, Sherwood and Lilia, they give her much to consider regarding the feywine. "In truth, I really would like to taste it, but now would be a bad time to be disabled. If I may, I would like just a small sip - just enough to get an idea of what it tastes like. Hopefully, the elven half of my blood will enable me to handle that."
If the sip of wine doesn't floor her, Kylie will spend the rest of the evening discussing magic with Lilia and Sherwood. Rising early, she packs her things and returns to the dress shop to retrieve her purchase before meeting the others at the boat.

Post Continued:
Stubbs will return with a small glass holding just a little of the golden colored Feywine. Kylie will find it sweet to the taste and perhaps the finest beverage she ever tasted. A few minutes after sipping it, she'll feel quite flushed from the powerful brew and will sleep very heavily tonight, but will be fine come the morning.
Morning comes and the adventurers are off once more. Kylie stops to pick up her dress before joining the others at the Mudlark. Since Nariya was here last, a dozen large crates of cargo has been added to the open deck. The crates have been tied down and covered with tarps for protection.
Sherwood greets Captain Scylla and the two converse while the final boardings are being made. You'll discover that there is one other passenger in addition to the Captain and crew.
The mooring lines are released and the Mudlark floats out into the Windrush River. The sail is raised and a crewman mans the rudder. The ship begins to accelerate at a easy pace. Rifllian falls away from view and the journey north begins.

Travelling Ever Onward
Yusef:
Rising early, which has become a habit since joining the monastic life, Yusef breaks his fast with a simple meal. He spends a short while working the kinks out of his muscles and the chill from his bones. Collecting his gear, he reboards the boat and stashes his horse and gear wherever there is room.
Noting the sun peaking over the horizon, Yusef climbs atop the Mudlark's cabin. Seating himself crosslegged on the roof, he faces the sun and begins to meditate. Such is his concentration that he hardly notices the arrival of other passengers or the motion of the boat getting underway.
Anyone looking at the man seated on the cabin roof will note his foreign appearance. Those who have travelled widely may recognise his features as Zakharan, the lands far to the west. His hair is black and long, and woven into numerous thin braids, each with a white bead near the end. A leather headband graces his brow; in the middle is a black disk with 7 tiny white gems scattered across the upper half of the disk. A person with a knowledge of religious symbolism may recognise this as the mark of the god of the sun and stars, Celestian.
The man wears no shirt or vest, as the weather is quite comfortable. A pair of tan breeches cover his lower half; his feet are bare. At his waist hang a sword on one side and a small pouch on the other. Tucked into his belt in the middle of his back are a pair of short sticks connected by a short chain.

New Beginnings
Kylie:
Kylie accepts the tiny portion of Feywine from Stubbs. The golden liquid catches a ray of the setting sun through the window, and seems to sparkle like a gemstone. Taking a sip, the wine seems to light up her whole mouth with it's light, yet sweet and fruity taste. "Wow! That's delicious!" she exclaims to no one in particular.
Quite uncharacteristically, Kylie has to be woken by the others with the rising of the sun. It seems the Feywine hit her hard. Still, the sleep was very restful and she feels quite refreshed. After quickly gathering her things, she swings by the dress shop that she visited the previous day. Fortunately, the owner is up and her dress is ready. While a nice enough garment now, it may also serve as the basis for a really fine dress some day in the future.
Boarding the boat, Kylie cannot help but notice the man seated on top of the cabin. As he doesn't appear to be helping with the preparations for leaving, she can only presume that he is a passenger. Frankly, she doesn't much like the looks of the man...
Kylie makes her way to the front of the boat. Looking out over the bow, she wonders how the trip will be. She has never travelled by boat before, so this will be a new experience for her. Tales of people getting sick riding on boats cross her mind, and she hopes that she can avoid that unpleasant fate.
"Well, that had been my original intention, not realizing how potent Feywine was," Kylie replies. "However, between your own good advice and the cautions of my friends, I decided to take a different tack. It is possible that I will try a full glass someday, but only under the right circumstances.""Oh, well just a sip be fine then, miss!", Stubbs will say with a wide grin. "I'd been thinking ye wanted a full glass!"

Sherwood:
Sherwood will watch Kylie to make sure that she doesn't get overpowered by her sip of the Feywine. Not surprisingly she begins to feel warm and show signs of being flushed. He'll help her to her room when the group turns in for the evening.
Morning comes and Sherwood has to rouse the half-elf out of bed. "So, was it worth it?", he asks, referring to her taste of the elven wine.
Gathering his gear, Sherwood will head towards the dock and the waiting Mudlark. He exchanges pleasantries with Captain Scylla. Then he'll join the others on deck near the bow of the ship. Finding a spot to relax, Sherwood sets his gear down and drops to the deck.
"The other passenger is a Priest of Celestian", Sherwood reports. "They are typically wanderers who travel the world. Followers of Celestian are not malevolent, so there should be nothing to fear from him. From a distance, he appears to be Zakaharian in birth. It's a large country far to the west of Cynalon. I'm sure that Kylie has seen Zakaharians before in the streets of Elcadan. We occasionally get trade caravans from that far off land."
Sherwood will sit back and relax during the trip to Threshold.
"Very good", Sherwood will say to Nariya after her report. "Well done."Nariya will inform Sherwood when she returns to the inn, "Everything is set with Captain Scylla. We are to be there before he departs at dawn and it will be 20 gold."

Lilia:
Lilia will sleep a little longer thanks to the fine Feywine than normal, but is still up quite early. She spends a little time with her spellbook, removing Fireball from memory and replacing it with Phantom Steed.
Once at the boat, the Elf Maiden will regard the other passenger with a curious eye. She's never seen a human that looked like that before. Her sharp elven sight picks up his unusual skin. It's coppery in color and rough like leather. Perhaps this star priest is not as human as he appears?
Lilia will join the others at the front of the boat. She spends time pestering Sherwood with questions about her newly acquired 3rd level spells, asking him for any insight that he may have to her new magicks.
Alternatively, she'll wish to question her forest cousin Nariya about the ways of her elven clan since they are unfamiliar to Lilia.
"But of course," Lilia will add taking a sip from her own drink. "Your elven heritage runs strong in you, Kylie, if you can appreciate the taste of the Feywine."Kylie accepts the tiny portion of Feywine from Stubbs. "Very good", Sherwood will say to Nariya after her report. "Well done."
Nariya will nod and return to her seat, finding the praise a bit awkward to deal with. Not that she doesn't welcome it, but just finds it odd to be given for such a trivial task in her mind. Sherwood's always been something of an enigma to her, one minute cheerful and relaxed, the next stoic, and all for seemingly no reason she can pinpoint.
Stubbs will recommend the Streel River Trout. It's a delicacy from Elcadan.
That is what Nariya orders and does find it quite delicious. She will be sure to tell Stubbs so.

"Even if he was a threat, you would have nothing to fear Sherwood, for you have three ferocious elven women to protect you," Nariya replies in jest. She will study the Zakaharian for a bit, but he seems to find the rising sun more interesting. fine, let him come to us if he wishes to make this passage shorter through conversation she will think.
Alternatively, she'll wish to question her forest cousin Nariya about the ways of her elven clan since they are unfamiliar to Lilia.
Nariya will gladly talk with Lilia about her clan and her ways, including the process they use to decorate their bodies and what the various tattoos mean to her people. She will also point out any interesting sites along the leisurely ride upstream.

Kylie:
Kylie pauses to think a moment as she finshes the last few drops in the glass. "From what I remember of her, my mother was a strong woman. Unfortunately, I know very little of her background; I could not even tell you whether she was of the nobility or common folk among her clan."
Once they are aboard the ship, it is not long before the conversation turns to the other passenger. Kylie turns to to Sherwood. "The look is familiar as you say, Sherwood, but in truth I never learned where they hailed from. I was very young, and they didn't come into our part of town that much."

Yusef:
They are well up-river when Yusef finally ends his meditations. Opening his eyes for the first time since sitting down, he looks about the ship. Immediately noting the other passengers, a small smile flits across his lips.
Oncoiling his lithe body, he rises, then leaps off the cabin to land lightly on the deck below. Yusef takes a few moments to check on his horse, then approaches the small knot of passengers. "Hail, fellow travellers! It is a fine day to be on life's path, is it not? I am Yusef ibn Nerita bint Falawi Al-Rashid, formerly of Elcadan. It is a pleasure to meet you ladies, and gentlemen," he says with a nod to the seated form of Sherwood.
At this close distance, it would be hard not to notice the young priest's eyes, which are more than passing strange. The irises are red as the setting sun, with pupils that are slitted like those of a cat.

"If I knew what clan your mother was from, it would help track her down." A thought comes to Lilia and she fishes out her shortsword. Leaving the weapon in its sheath, Lilia holds it up so that the handle can be plainly seen. Looking closely, you can see that the grip has been formed to resemble an entwining serpent. Below the guard is the serpent's head with its forked tongue protruding.
"This is the sword hilt for a Clan Grunalf weapon. Did you ever see anything like this before?"
"Some of what you say reminds me of Clan Long Runner. They prefer primitive garb and cover themselves with colorful war paint."
For perhaps the first time in her life, Lilia encounters a non-elvish name nearly as long as hers!
"I am Lilliathelionn Allandros of Clan Grunalf", she'll say with a nod.
"That is an apt description of Feywine. Unlike human wines, Feywine does not improve with age. If you bottle it, the flavor will fade in a few days. Typically it is only partaken of on special occasions or after a victory.""I know nothing of how others experience this Feywine," Kylie admits, "but I find it very pleasing. It seems light and sweet and fruity, all at once; I have had nothing like it before."
"We in the Elfholds do not have such strong classes as exist among the humans, Kylie. There isn't a distinct noble class or commoner classes. We do have a king, but his rule is not as wide-sweeping as the human king. We don't have lords, or barons, or dukes. There are Clanmasters, who oversee the individual clans. There are also Treekeepers who are the custodians of the Trees of Life."Kylie pauses to think a moment as she finishes the last few drops in the glass. "From what I remember of her, my mother was a strong woman. Unfortunately, I know very little of her background; I could not even tell you whether she was of the nobility or common folk among her clan."

Nariya's jest will bring a smile to Lilia's face. "I don't know if I would describe myself as being ferocious. Fierce perhaps, but not ferocious.""Even if he was a threat, you would have nothing to fear Sherwood, for you have three ferocious elven women to protect you," Nariya replies in jest. The talk with Nariya is fascinating, but strange. She will also point out any interesting sites along the leisurely ride upstream.

Lilia notes the stranger approaching and keeps on guard without appearing to be on guard. She's ready to cast Magic Missile should it be needed. She notes his unusual eyes and realizes that her earlier hypothesis was correct. He isn't completely human.Uncoiling his lithe body, he rises, then leaps off the cabin to land lightly on the deck below. Sherwood:
The stranger heads on over to chat.
"And in moderation", Sherwood will add. "Thankfully, the next few days should be easy enough."Kylie smiles up at uncle Sherwood. "Indeed it was. I certainly know not to treat it lightly, but I would like to taste it again someday. Under the proper conditions, of course..."
"I don't know much about their culture, myself, other than it's quite different from ours. Powerful men have multiple wives for instance."Once they are aboard the ship, it is not long before the conversation turns to the other passenger. Kylie turns to to Sherwood. "The look is familiar as you say, Sherwood, but in truth I never learned where they hailed from. I was very young, and they didn't come into our part of town that much."
Sherwood will actually let out a light laugh. "There are some men who would gladly trade places with me. Let's hope that he doesn't try anything foolish. I'm sure that Captain Scylla would require more gold to smooth over the situation."The Elves Three wrote:"Even if he was a threat, you would have nothing to fear Sherwood, for you have three ferocious elven women to protect you," Nariya replies in jest.

"I am Sherwood," the lone man will say as he rises to his feet. Once standing, he'll shakes hands with the unusual looking stranger. "That all depends, Yusef. How familiar are you with the Black Peak Mountains?"Uncoiling his lithe body, he rises, then leaps off the cabin to land lightly on the deck below. Yusef takes a few moments to check on his horse, then approaches the small knot of passengers. "Hail, fellow travelers! It is a fine day to be on life's path, is it not? New Beginnings
Kylie:
The discussion of the wine continues. "It spoils so fast? It must be quite rare. I assume it is only made when it is known that it will be needed, then."
She turns to Sherwood. "Of course... or be somewhere safe that it doesn't matter if I sleep for a few days. Your tower or Jallarzi's for example."
The conversation shifts to the Elfholds and Kylie's mother. Lilia presents her sword pommel, apparently hoping it will spark a memory. "I'm afraid not, Lilia. However, my father did once tell me what clan my mother came from: Clan Aelrhed. Her name was, or is, Allurien Cortheledran - I know not if she yet lives."
Sherwood's mention of the Zakharan's taking multiple wives brings a sour look from Kylie. However, she chooses to say nothing on the subject.
A bit of humor is shared by the women and their male companion, though it could be said to be at Sherwood's expense. "I don't know, ferocious seems a reasonable description of you, Lilia. Though perhaps not as terrifying as myself," she says with a laugh. "I suspect that we would be far less protective of other men, so their dreams are unlikely to come true."
Kylie notes the strange man's approach and glares at him in an unfriendly manner as he introduces himself. Her companions greet him and share their names, but Kylie hesitates in doing so herself. His blood-red eyes give him a dangerous look, though she notes his mention of being from Elcadan.

"Greetings, Lilliathelionn Allandros of Clan Grunalf," Yusef replies with a sweeping bow, "and to you, Sherwood. It is a pleasure to meet my fellow travellers. As I said to your elven companion, Nariya, please call me Yusef - the long form of my name is just for formal introductions, as it tells who I am and whom I come from."
He turns to Sherwood to answer his question. "Very little, I'm afraid. I have crossed these mountains once, but well to the west of here. However, I have wandered far and wide over the past few years, and seen much. It may be that I could be of help to you - after all, that is what we who serve our lord Celestian are trained to do."
Yusef notes the woman in the back nodding as he voices his opinion of Elcadan. "Have you knowledge of Elcadan, my lady? I was born and raised there. Leaving was the best thing I ever did."

Nariya:
The conversation about Elcadan doesn't interest Nariya. She's never been fond of the sprawling cities that humans tend to build, and as Yusef continues to talk about how glad he is to have left, it sounds like Elcadan is even worse than typical. Yusef also appears to not know the area they are heading to very well, and if Sherwood wishes to bring on another companion, that's for him to decide. She will lead them no matter if they are three or thirty.
Nariya has little else to do but relax as the journey continues upstream. If Lilia wishes to continue her conversation, then she will engage her fellow elf in such, but otherwise she will be content to merely wait until they reach their destination.

Lilia:
While sitting on the river barge, a thought comes to Lilia's mind. Turning to Sherwood she'll ask, "Sherwood Elf-Friend, I have a question for you. When the Dark One attempted to secure our loyalty what did he offer you? I am curious to know, unless it is too personal a matter."
"It only spoils quickly when sealed away from nurturing air", Lilia corrects. "Such as when put into a bottle. Otherwise it lasts a long time, although I doubt that any Feywine was ever gone to waste by not being consumed.Kylie wrote:The discussion of the wine continues. "It spoils so fast? "I am sorry, Kylie", Lilia will genuinely state, "but I have never head of a Clan Aelrhed. There are numerous smaller clans in the Elfholds beyond the major ones, but I do not know all of them. I can say with some certainty that they are not from around where I was raised."The conversation shifts to the Elfholds and Kylie's mother. Lilia presents her sword pommel, apparently hoping it will spark a memory. "I'm afraid not, Lilia. However, my father did once tell me what clan my mother came from: Clan Aelrhed. Her name was, or is, Allurien Cortheledran - I know not if she yet lives."
"Indeed", Lilia will say raising her eyebrow. "Much like yourself, please call me Lilia for short.""Greetings, Lilliathelionn Allandros of Clan Grunalf," Yusef replies with a sweeping bow, "and to you, Sherwood. It is a pleasure to meet my fellow travelers. As I said to your elven companion, Nariya, please call me Yusef - the long form of my name is just for formal introductions, as it tells who I am and whom I come from."
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!
Sherwood
Sherwood:
"Of course", Sherwood responds. "So, how are you dealing with life on the road now? You've matured over these last few weeks considerably."Kylie turns to Sherwood. "Of course... or be somewhere safe that it doesn't matter if I sleep for a few days. Your tower or Jallarzi's for example."
"That makes me a lucky man, I guess", Sherwood will add with a chuckle.Kylie wrote:A bit of humor is shared by the women and their male companion, though it could be said to be at Sherwood's expense. "I don't know, ferocious seems a reasonable description of you, Lilia. Though perhaps not as terrifying as myself," she says with a laugh. "I suspect that we would be far less protective of other men, so their dreams are unlikely to come true."
"I am somewhat familiar with Elcadan myself", Sherwood will interject. "I can't say that I've ever heard of your family name around town before. Not that I'm familiar with everyone in town, but I'm sure I would have remembered a name like that."Yusef notes the woman in the back nodding as he voices his opinion of Elcadan. "Have you knowledge of Elcadan, my lady? I was born and raised there. Leaving was the best thing I ever did."
Sherwood will consider for a moment. "I am not opposed to having you join our expedition, but it will require the approval of my companions as well. Ladies?"He turns to Sherwood to answer his question. "Very little, I'm afraid. I have crossed these mountains once, but well to the west of here. However, I have wandered far and wide over the past few years, and seen much. It may be that I could be of help to you - after all, that is what we who serve our lord Celestian are trained to do."
"No, it's not that personal of a matter, Lilia. The Dark One offered to return my late wife to my side. Darya's death was like a wound that never fully healed. I think that now, with Mystra's aid, it finally has. I feel as if a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders."While sitting on the river barge, a thought comes to Lilia's mind. Turning to Sherwood she'll ask, "Sherwood Elf-Friend I have a question for you. When the Dark One attempted to secure our loyalty what did he offer you? I am curious to know, unless it is too personal a matter."
I do what is necessary.
New Beginnings
Kylie:
Kylie's shoulders slump and she appears a bit deflated when Lilia admits to never having heard of Clan Aelrhed. "That is okay, Lilia. If she were easy to find, no doubt my father would have already done so. Still, I hope to find word of her fate some day."
A thought occurs to Kylie as they discuss her mother. "Lilia, could you do me a favor? If we find her, please don't let me forget to ask Nightmist about my mother's clan. Having lived as long as she has, perhaps she could give me some idea where to start looking."
"Still, I'd have to say it's getting easier. I'm not as afraid of dying in every battle that takes place. Of course, my skills have improved significantly in that time, so that helps. On the other hand, this group is so much smaller than the Guardians, I have to believe that we are more vulnerable. Hopefully, we won't come across any overwhelming opponents in our search for Nightmist." She looks around at her companions for a moment. "Of course, I suspect this group has much better chances of achieving goals through stealth than the larger group did."
Kylie starts when she realizes that the stranger is speaking to her. "Oh! Uhm... yes. I grew up in Dog Alley. It's hard to imagine a worse place for a little girl to grow up. Luckily, Tymora smiled on me and I was able to get out of there."
She looks appraisingly at Yusef. "So where in Elcadan are you from?"
"Oh. Well, that makes it much easier, then. It could be stored in open barrels, or something of that sort."Lilia wrote:"It only spoils quickly when sealed away from nurturing air", Lilia corrects. "Such as when put into a bottle. Otherwise it lasts a long time, although I doubt that any Feywine was ever gone to waste by not being consumed.

Sherwood's question causes Kylie to pause and consider. "To be honest, I don't really know. There has been so much to do and so much happening, I haven't really had a chance to think about it.Sherwood wrote:"Of course", Sherwood responds. "So, how are you dealing with life on the road now? Travelling Ever Onward
Yusef:
"My father's family lives in Elcadan. Perhaps you have heard of the DeVille merchant clan? They are without honor or compassion, and I do not wish to be associated with them."
"My father's family lives in the merchant quarter in a large estate, and that is where I grew up. My mother was a slave to the family, and thus so was I. I am very fortunate to have escaped, as they are despicable people who casually commit the greatest of atrocities."
"Thank you, Sherwood. From what little I have heard, the road you travel appears to be an adventurous one, and I would be very interested to join your quest. I believe you will find my skills to be very useful on such a path." He noted the mention of someone named Nightmist, but has no idea who that might be. Still, he is intrigued.
"I am sorry for your loss, Sherwood, though I have just met you. It sounds as though you have started on the road of healing, and for that I wish you good fortune.
"From the sound of it, I suspect there is a far grander tale here, would any of you be willing to share it with me as we travel up-river?"
"It would be my pleasure, Lilia," replies Yusef. "I'm afraid that I'm not familiar with the elven clans. From whence do you hail?"Lilia wrote:"Indeed", Lilia will say raising her eyebrow. "Much like yourself, please call me Lilia for short."
"That would be due to my use of my mother's family name. Her name is Nerita, and she is the daughter of Falawi, of the clan of the warlord Rashid in Zakhara.Sherwood wrote:"I am somewhat familiar with Elcadan myself", Sherwood will interject. Yusef winces. "While I have never actually been in that area of the city, Dog Alley has a fearsome reputation. It is not a good place for a little girl to grow up.Kylie wrote:Kylie starts when she realizes that the stranger is speaking to her. "Oh! Uhm... yes. I grew up in Dog Alley. Lilia
Lilia:
Glancing at Sherwood, Lilia will add, "Although there have been exceptions made for certain individuals. It is entirely possible that your father was not allowed in because he is human. There are those elves who consider the joining of a human and an elf to be-- unnatural."
"That may not be the case, Kylie. We elves prize our home forest greatly and do not let outsiders in. Apart from Alfheim Town, very few non-elves, outside of invading orcs, have ever sat foot in our woods. Such a thing is not permitted."Kylie's shoulders slump and she appears a bit deflated when Lilia admits to never having heard of Clan Aelrhed. "That is okay, Lilia. If she were easy to find, no doubt my father would have already done so. Still, I hope to find word of her fate some day."

"Of course", Lilia will agree. Another thought does come to her mind. "Is it possible that your mothers clan was not within the Elfholds? Like Nariya's clan here?"A thought occurs to Kylie as they discuss her mother. "Lilia, could you do me a favor? If we find her, please don't let me forget to ask Nightmist about my mother's clan. Having lived as long as she has, perhaps she could give me some idea where to start looking."
"I defer to your judgment in this matter", Lilia will diplomatically state.Sherwood will consider for a moment. "I am not opposed to having you join our expedition, but it will require the approval of my companions as well. Ladies?"
"I am from the Elfholds to the north, priest. My clan is one of the eight major clans. It is not surprising that you are unfamiliar with them, as I was just telling my friend here, non-elf outsiders in the Elfholds are very rare.""It would be my pleasure, Lilia," replies Yusef. "I'm afraid that I'm not familiar with the elven clans. From whence do you hail?"
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!
Sherwood
Sherwood:
"I do not blame you there, Yusef", Sherwood will say. "I am familiar with their history and it does explain a great many things. The fact that you've overcome your beginnings and became a follower or Celestian does you credit."
Sherwood will seem pleased with Kylie's response. "You adapt to the strengths of those around you. As you suggest, stealth may be this groups largest asset. While I am unsure what lies ahead, I find it hard to believe that we'll be encountering any large organized resistance. These mountains have been mostly quiet for centuries, apart from the occasional drow raids mentioned earlier. This mission may well be quite boring."Sherwood's question causes Kylie to pause and consider. "To be honest, I don't really know. There has been so much to do and so much happening, I haven't really had a chance to think about it.

Sherwood will nod in agreement upon hearing the name of Deville and the atrocities they had done in the past. They had been a powerful noble family in the past, but after what Matthew had done they were severely set back. It explained a great deal, including Yusef's unique appearance. Lilia was right, there was something else flowing through his veins beyond human blood.Yusef wrote:"That would be due to my use of my mother's family name. "It was years ago, but feels like only yesterday at times. Thank you."Overhearing Lilia's question, Yusef turns to Sherwood with one eyebrow arched in a questioning mien. "I am sorry for your loss, Sherwood, though I have just met you. It sounds as though you have started on the road of healing, and for that I wish you good fortune. "
"There's really not much to tell, Yusef. We have reason to believe that an elf named Nightmist has vital information. We have reason to believe that she dwells up in the Black Peak Mountains. Our goal is to find her and question her.""From the sound of it, I suspect there is a far grander tale here, would any of you be willing to share it with me as we travel up-river?"
