New Frontiers #42

The group continues its ride south to Rennydale. Last night (and last post) the spoils of victory were handed out. Before beginning the last leg of the ride, Sherwood teleported away with Validar. Lady Sallavarian departed with Elspeth.

After a few hours of riding, the group can see Rennydale Castle over the hills ahead. The trek is completed without incident and the group is hailed as heroes by those at the castle.

Lord Cavius is eager for word on the outcome of the Guardian's mission. Officer Gwenith will report and fill her lord in.

The group relaxes and will be fed by the Cavius' staff, their mounts tended to by the stable hands. (Although I imagine that Acerion will tend to the pegasus personally.)

Those wishing to do so may explore the Town of Rennydale as the outer gates are open. Those going into Rennydale will find that the streets are worn, dirty, pocked with rain filled potholes and somewhat muddy.

The town does seem lively, though. People are out and about, carrying out their business. Most everyone in Rennydale seems to carry a weapon on them. Most of the businesses in town seem geared towards weapons and armor manufacture. Numerous smiths are seen and several are run by dwarves.

There is only one shop dedicated to solely clothing and the quality is average. There's not much of an "upper class" in Rennydale and the clothing available reflects this. There are other "general store" type places that will also have clothing to sell.

There are several wine shops to be had and the open markets will sell grapes at very affordable prices.

Next morning, Lord Validar returns with Sherwood. Shortly after that, Sherwood will teleport Kharyna, Lara, Talia, and Swanny back to the Sallavarian Estate. He then returns again and teleports away with Kylie and Lilia.

GM Notes

Post by GM Mad »

GM Notes:

Rennydale is something of a backwater area when it comes to quality goods. Goods from the Player's Handbook can be purchased within the follow limits:

Clothing - Only items costing 10 GP or less can be purchased.

Misc. Equipment - Same as clothing, nothing more than items 10 GP in value or less

Weapons - Weapons are more common in Rennydale. Weapons up to 30 GP in value may be purchased.

Armor - No armor costing more than 100 GP is available.

With this post, several characters are splitting out into their own games. Kylie and Lilia will now be in the Blackflame Forum, while Kharyna and Crew in the Tower of Magic Forum. Check those areas for your new posts in those games.

In the meantime, you may continue to post in this post to wrap up any last minute business and say your goodbyes.

You'll also notice a change at the links at the top of the page. All the various reference pages for the various games set on Cynalon can now be accessed via one page labeled "World of Cynalon Pages".

Lara:
Laucian's face begins to redden, he smiles and says, "You are welcome, Lara. I just wish our time wasn't so short. I have come to enjoy all of your company."
"We'll meet again, Laucian. After all, you owe me a trip into the Elfholds and I'm going to hold you to it. We tend to adventure for a time in the Towers and then withdraw for breaks. I'm sure we'll be having another break before too long."

Lara will say her goodbyes to the others before being teleported away by Sherwood.

Laucian wrote:Turning to Lilia as well as Kylie, "It has been a pleasure meeting and getting to know you both in our endeavors, I hope in time we will meet again." He will then in turn give each a kiss on their hands." I will pray for your safety where ever you are. Safe journeys."
"Until we meet again in the Elfholds, Clansman. You will be in my thoughts."

Kharyna will listen to Lilia's comments. "Thank you, Lilia. We all wish you well also. I am sure you have your reasons, and I shall not question them. Good luck."
Even though a further explanation is not needed, the Elf Maiden will say more. "My primary goal was the acquisition of magical spells and items. Such thing would bring me into competition with not only yourself, but with Lara. I was not interested in the reasons for your quest, only for the rewards of it. Thus, I was asking to go for the wrong reasons."

"That's wonderful!" Kylie replies excitedly. "Thank you! You have greatly increased my pleasure and confidence in this mission. According to Sherwood, we'll leave after he returns with Validar from Pyris. He's going to teleport us to Rifflian, wherever that is. Apparently, he's arranging a guide to meet us there who knows the area. I can only imagine that will be a great help."
"I understand", Lilia will simply say. "I am not familiar with Rifllian either, so a guide seems sensible."

Lilia will spend her time reading and chatting with Lara before departing with Sherwood and Kylie.
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

"Thank you, Ivy," Kylie replies. "I'm sorry we didn't get much chance to get to know one another better, but I will certainly look forward to the day that we meet again. I wish you luck in keeping this unruly and ill-mannered lot in line," she says with a mischievous smirk.
"It is a thankless job, isn't it?", Ivy will say with a smile. "I'm sure we'll be just fine. Take care of yourself."

When learning of Kylie, Kharyna, and Argent's trip into town to purchase clothing, Ivy will ask to tag along. "While I have not been very clothing conscious, what I do have is being to show wear. A few dresses for private times and a new set of adventuring clothes would be most welcomed."

Ivy will also follow Kharyna and Argent's lead in this matter. This sort of thing is new to the young Azrellian.

Argent:
Kylie wrote:"You are right, of course, Argent. It is great having two big sisters who are so smart and wonderful. The parting makes me sad, but perhaps the future meeting will be that much sweeter."
"That is a nice way to look at it", Argent agrees. "You know, at some point Jallarzi will gain another apprentice. That means you'll finally have someone you can be the big sister to."

Kharyna wrote:"Indeed it does. Just like the old days."
"You know, in a year or two from now we can have our apprentices doing this sort of thing. It would fun to have rookies to boss around, although I'm not sure just how good of a teacher I would be. Jallarzi definitely has more patience than I do!"

Kharyna wrote:"Have a look. I know we exchanged a few some time ago. Perhaps there are some additional spells you may find useful."
"That's wonderful! Thank you!"

Validar wrote:"Indeed, while Chareos would make best use of the bracers, the Cloak would be fitting for you, Argent the Invoker. As one of the few mages continuing on with the Guardians, your protection is paramount. Accept the Cloak and use it well."
"Thank you, Lord Validar. I'm sure it will serve me well--- after it is cleaned up a bit."

Once in Rennydale, Argent will take a look at what they have to offer. "Hmmm, pretty slim pickings", she'll tell Kharyna, Kylie and Ivy and anyone else who came along. "But not unexpected. The best garments are those made specifically for you. Or if you're lucky like I was, find some who is close enough."

Argent will enjoy their little shopping trip and pass on her tips when it comes to fashion.

Later on will come the tearful farewells as Kylie and Kharyna go on their own separate ways. Argent will cheer up quickly as Lord Validar returns.

"I see that you've returned. I trust your visit home was a pleasant one?"

Lord Corley

Post by Corley »

Corley:

Lord Corley will graciously accept the enchanted longsword from Lord Validar. "Aye, a back up weapon is always handy."

During the day Lord Validar is gone, Lord Corley will tend to his mounts and hold their reins as we ride towards Rennydale.

Later, when those who are leaving depart, Lord Corley will say goodbye to each of the ladies and kiss their hands in the process.

He feels a bit awkward when it comes time to say goodbye to Lady Kylie. Gathering his courage, Corley will say, "I wanted to apologize to you, Lady Kylie, over the-- misunderstanding we seemed to have had. I had no desire to hurt you or see you hurt. I wish you well in your future pursuits."

Laucian

Once he reaches the fletcher he finds the shortbow, quiver and 12 flight arrows. Producing one of the gems from his pack he will hand it to the merchant.

After returning from his shopping endeavors he will seek out Talia as well as Lara. Once both are together he will present the bow and quiver to Talia.

"In the past I noticed that you do not care to get into the thick of things," he says this with an easy smile. "Sometimes I care to do the same. With this you can keep your distance and help your friends. Sadly I cannot teach you how to use it for our time is too short, though Lara agreed to help train you if you're willing."

"Aye, indeed we will. When the time comes I will be true to my word," he says with a smile etched on his face. "Just send word when you and your comrades are free, I'lll gladly take you /and your friends/ to see my ancestoral home."

Lord Validar will place his hand on the young fighter-mage's shoulder as he hands him the Bracers. "You have no reason to give up what you already have since they are not a duplicated item. The Girdle is yours and judging by your bravery to jump into combat, it will be well used in the future. Perhaps these will help with your defenses."

"Indeed they shall, thank you," he says as he takes the bracers looking down at them fondly. He takes off his old bracers and replaces them with the new ones. It is soon learned that Lyonessa is in need of them and he gladly gives them to her. "May they serve you well," he says with a smile.

Grondar wrote-Seeing Sherra's smile, Grondar returns it with one of his own. He continues to observe as she and Chareos spar. His patience being greater than their endurance, he is still there when they finish. "Well done, my friends," he says with a smile as he rises and approaches. "The breadth and depth of the skills in this group never fail to amaze me. We are truly blessed to be part of such an assemblage."

Wiping the sweat from his brow he replies, "You are a quick study Sherra, you did well ths day." Turning to Grondar, "Aye we are indeed blessed to be part of this noble group. If the past has any basis of our role in this land, we will all do well."

As Sherra and Chareos are trying to figure out the shortsword Swanny approaches and says,"Oh, you crazy kids! From the looks of it, neither one of you knows how to use that kind of blade. Here, let Auntie Swanny help you out. Luckily for you, I've been trained in the usage of all types of swords."

Drawing her own shortsword, Swanny will show it to her new students. "Okay, a shortsword is a lot like a long dagger. In fact, it’s a dagger that's so long it can no longer be wielded like a dagger. It's a thrusting weapon that you use with one hand."

"Its operation is pretty simple. Typically you would have a shield or another sword in your offhand if the shortsword is your primary weapon. I myself use it mainly as my secondary weapon when not using a shield. The shortsword is a thrusting weapon. Use your shield or primary weapon to block an attack and then you step in to the thrust, putting your weight behind it. That's really all there is to it."

"To sum up: the shortsword, easy to learn to use, a lifetime to master."

"But Auntie Swanny, doesn't the sharp end go away from us?" he says with a wide grin on his face. Though he soon learns that Swanny is trained in such a weapon and listens intently. "An interesting way to sum it up." Taking a stick up from the ground, Chareos imitates what Swanny has said, "Like this?" He will listen to what she has to say and try to replicate it in his movements.

Grondar:

Unexpectedly, Validar steps in and resolves the issues of handing out the magic items. Grondar watches with interest as most of the items are handed out.
Validar wrote:"It is a good choice, then, my dwarven friend. The Staff of Command is yours. I am sure it will have many uses for you."
Grondar accepts the Staff from the leader of the Guardians. "Thank you. I have no doubt that it will prove useful in the future."
"As for the flails, Grondar did indicate that he may have interest in one. Please pick your choice. Anyone who wishes the other may take it."
"As you noted to Lord Corley, a backup weapon is a good hedge against unfortunate events and this one shall become mine," Grondar says, selecting one at random from the rapidly-diminishing pile. Looking down, Grondar notes one Flail and one Shield still lying on the table. "I guess these last items are for anyone who wants them. If not, they can be sold. Does Po have a backup weapon?" Grondar glances over at the young man for his reply.

"By the by, does anyone know how to use this thing," Grondar guestures with the Flail, "that might be willing to teach me?"
Validar will then address his teammates and say a short goodbye as well. "I suppose we will meet up with all of you tomorrow in Rennydale. Enjoy this brief respite for soon, we ride for Corunglain and I am sure much more challenges."
Grondar gives Lord Validar a nod of acknowledgement. A day of rest and meditation will be most welcome. Part of the day will be spent relaxing, part in prayer and worship, part wandering the city and castle in search of any other dwarves in the area with whom he might make contact.

Eventually, he stumbles upon a few dwarves in town, most of whom seem to work as armorers or weaponsmiths. Not surprising, as dwarves skill in these areas is well known. Grondar will stop in to chat for a while. He offers to lead a quick worship service to honor Berronar, Morradin and the other dwarven gods, but will not press if interest seems lacking.
Chareos wrote:Wiping the sweat from his brow he replies,"You are a quick study Sherra, you did well ths day."turning to Grondar,"Aye we are indeed blessed to be part of this noble group. If the past has any basis of our role in this land, We will all do well."
"No doubt we shall, son. No doubt we shall," Grondar says with a smile.
Aswansea wrote:Walking around, she stumbles upon Chareos and Sherra sparing with each other. First with quarterstaffs and then with short swords.

"Oh, you crazy kids! From the looks of it, neither one of you knows how to use that kind of blade. Here, let Auntie Swanny help you out. Luckily for you, I've been trained in the usage of all types of swords."
Swanny's comment draws a belly laugh from Grondar, who has been watching from the sidelines. Her instruction methods seem sparse, but also appear to help, as Chareos and Sherra are soon doing notably better with the weapons.

It so happens that Grondar is in town when Kharyna and company depart for Lady Sallavarian's home. He is a bit disappointed when he realizes it, but there is nothing to be done about it now. On the other hand, he is in attendance when Sherwood takes Kylie and Lilia to start their new mission, so he waves goodbye as they depart. "Fare thee well!" he calls out.

Kylie:
Validar wrote:Validar will address the group. "I have chatted with Sherwood briefly and he suggested that since the magic items are not enough major items for us all and there are many who received great boons from their patrons, that I should dispense them and save us the time for other more important things."

"I think he is wise in this regard and therefore, I will do so."
Kylie pauses to look at him, then turns away. First he shows no interest in the proceedings, then he steps in and takes over. I was right to leave this group, she thinks to herself.
"Since you agree that Chareos would be the best for the Bracers and the Boots are an item only Sherra and you can use and Sherra already has magical boots, it only makes sense that these should be yours, Kylie Lanthorn. Use them well on your quests."
Kylie accepts the Boots without comment. Afterwards, she quietly watches the rest of the proceedings from the edge of the room.
Kharyna wrote:"Indeed it does. Just like the old days."
Kylie nods energetically, a happy smile on her face.
Kharyna returns the warm hug of her fellow ex-apprentice with one of her own. "Each life's path is a tangled web, which sometimes takes us away from one another and sometimes brings us together. Usually each when we least expect it. Being apart does not diminish the strength of the relationship unless you let other things become more important. For now we each have our own destinies, each of which take us in different directions. Remember the good times and keep our freindships fresh in your mind."
Not trusting herself to speak at this emotional juncture, Kylie just smiles and revels in her friend's embrace.
"It is a thankless job, isn't it?", Ivy will say with a smile. "I'm sure we'll be just fine. Take care of yourself."

"I will, Ivy," Kylie says. "You take care as well, and I will see you again one day."
Kharyna wrote:Kharyna will go into Rennydale on the shoppin excursion with Kylie and Argent, although she really isn't looking for anything for herself. She will keep an eye out for any jewelers of course!
Ivy wrote:When learning of Kylie, Kharyna, and Argent's trip into town to purchase clothing, Ivy will ask to tag along. "While I have not been very clothing conscious, what I do have is being to show wear. A few dresses for private times and a new set of adventuring clothes would be most welcomed.

"But not unexpected. The best garments are those made specifically for you. Or if you're lucky like I was, find some who is close enough."

Argent will enjoy their little shopping trip and pass on her tips when it comes to fashion.
Kylie's little shopping trip turns into quite an excursion, with so many coming along. She enjoys the opportunity to bond with her fellow women as much as the shopping itself. She and Ivy take the role of students to the more worldly-wise Argent and Kharyna. Kylie doesn't find any particularly nice dresses as she had hoped, but she does spend 5 gold crowns replacing the most worn items in her wardrobe. Perhaps Rifflian will have a better selection for shopping...
"That is a nice way to look at it", Argent agrees. "You know, at some point Jallarzi will gain another apprentice. That means you'll finally have someone you can be the big sister to."
"Ah. You mean I'll get to do the terrorizing this time?" Kylie asks with an wicked grin.

Kylie makes certain to see Kharyna and her friends off. She feels sad at the parting, but does her best to appear cheery. "Goodbye! Take care!"
Corley wrote:He feels a bit awkward when it comes time to say goodbye to Lady Kylie. Gathering his courage, Corley will say, "I wanted to apologize to you, Lady Kylie, over the-- misunderstanding we seemed to have had. I had no desire to hurt you or see you hurt. I wish you well in your future pursuits."
It is nearly time to leave with Sherwood when Lord Corley approaches her. In truth, she had kind of been avoiding him, but she respects him enough to hear him out. "Thank you, Lord Corley. I know you meant no harm, and I must shoulder my share of the blame. My inexperience in matters of the heart made it difficult for us both. I hope you will remember me fondly. Fare well; I know that your future will be bright."

As they depart, Kylie spots Grondar in the crowd, waving. Stepping forward, she addresses the dwarven priest. "You are one of the few dwarves I have met, and the first I can call friend. Take care of yourself and these others, and I hope we will meet up again someday."

Moments later, they are gone.

Acerion

Post by Acerion »

Acerion:

Acerion will make sure to say farewell to all the others before they all depart. He will clasp Sherwood's wrist and kiss the hands of the women who were receptive to such behavior, keeping in mind that Lilia had not taken to kindly to such an attempt and will refrain from doing so upon her departure.

He will linger a moment with Swanny as he moves to kiss her hand, smiling in a less-than-innocent manner. "Come back when you're ready to get sweaty again," he will say to her as he pats the hilt of one of his swords.

Acerion will indeed tend to the pegasus himself, but will ask the stable hands about if there are any reliable saddle makers. He quickly explains the need by showing them the inherent problems with a regular saddle and see if they can offer anything. He will also take time to test the weight limit that the pegasus can reasonably carry, including still being able to fly. He has no desire to run this fine animal into the ground, risking injury or worse.

Knowing that Rennydale won't have the finer craftsmen that he would be seeking, he refrains from going into town for his other needs unless he can track down a saddle. Otherwise, he will continue to practice riding and tending to the pegasus since Ivy has gone into town on her own shopping excursion. He will also be awaiting Validar's summons to gather together once more in preparation for their inevitible departure.

"Indeed they shall, thank you," he says as he takes the bracers looking down at them fondly. He takes off his old bracers and replaces them with the new ones. It is soon learned that Lyonessa is in need of them and he gladly gives them to her. "May they serve you well," he says with a smile.

"Thank you Chareos," Lyonessa will say, returning his smile. "Also, I must ask if I too may look upon your spellbook and the ones that have been captured at some future date. I am without an easy access to bardic magic, but I know many of the spells used by mages can be learned and adapted for a bard to use. I have no current need for additional spells, but in the future as I am able to unlock higher magics, I would definitely need some aid. That is unless we start encountering evil bards in numbers I would dread to think of. I am unsure if you could learn from my spellbook as well, but I would imagine it would work the same way, wouldn't it?"

Overhearing Validar's conversation with Corley about keeping spare weapons, Lyonessa will pack away her lesser magical mace. It would indeed prove handy if her new one was lost somehow. She could also sell it if she or the group was in need of additional gold.

She will say her goodbyes to those who are leaving although she hadn't known many of them very well. As others practice with weapons or mounts, she will return to her unpolished ballad with the hopes of having it finished should an opportunity arise some night here in Rennydale to perform before the Lord and her companions.

"Just try it wise guy and see how you like it," Swanny shoots back in response to Chareos. After a little bit more practice, she'll add, "That's basically it. The long sword is the slashing weapon as it has a longer reach, so in most combat use the shortsword is a thrusting weapon."

The time to depart arrives and we're saying our goodbyes. Several of the Lords show their appreciation for our efforts.

Getting more serious, Swanny will say, "Take care of yourself, Acerion. It would be a shame if something happened to such a charming fellow."
Later, when those who are leaving depart, Lord Corley will say goodbye to each of the ladies and kiss their hands in the process.
"Fight well, Corley," Swanny will say as they depart.

Ivy:

Ivy listens intently as Argent talks about fashion. However, it’s a bit more than she was looking for.

"While I thank you for your assistance, Argent, high fashion is not precisely what I am looking for. I'm primarily looking for function over style. I've taken a vow of poverty in my quest to eliminate undead. Having expensive clothes would violate this."

Ivy will select a few blouses and trousers to wear while adventuring, and two new, but plain dresses for more relaxing times. To bad they don’t have much in the way of blues here, as it is the holy color of Azrella.

I am without an easy access to bardic magic, but I know many of the spells used by mages can be learned and adapted for a bard to use. I have no current need for additional spells, but in the future as I am able to unlock higher magicks, I would definitely need some aid. That is unless we start encountering evil bards in numbers I would dread to think of. I am unsure if you could learn from my spellbook as well, but I would imagine it would work the same way, wouldn't it?"

"Of course you may. When you wish to see my tome you only need ask. An army of bards," letting out a scoff, "Let us hope they sing well at least." as a playful smile etches on his face "As for learning of spells from you I'm willing to give it a try, if you are."
Overhearing this, Argent will step up and add her two cents to the discussion. "Well met, Songstress. I was not aware that you were also a mage in addition to your Mystrian-given abilities. My apologies. Had I know, I would have welcomed you into our spell-swapping group. I don't know if my book will help you given your method of spellcasting, but you are welcomed to try."

Argent will enjoy her time shopping. It's just too bad that that quality of goods available is lacking. She won't purchase anything for herself at this time.
Ivy wrote:"While I thank you for your assistance, Argent, high fashion is not precisely what I am looking for. I'm primarily looking for function that style. I've taken a vow of poverty in my quest to eliminate undead. Having expensive clothes would violate this."
"I understand, priestess", Argent will say. "Still there is no reason you can't be thrifty and look good at the same time. After all, you are the representative of your goddess in our group and clothes can help shape one's first impression of you. I'm sure we can find clothing that will look good on you and not violate your vows."

When learning that Ivy is primarily looking for blues but not finding them, Argent will add, "That is an easy situation to rectify, Ivy. I can change the color of garments with a Cantrip. We can have you in you proper colors in the morning!"
I am an Invoker of no small power.

Upon Validar's return...

Post by Validar »

LORD VALIDAR -

Validar will return with Sherwood and he comes not completely alone. When everyone is together again, there is a fine spread prepared. Validar has returned with some expensive sweets and confections and cheeses. Paired with the excellent wines that Rennydale is so famous for and some fine cuts of meat, it is an excellent meal. He will delay the leaving of Sherwood and the others for a short period for everyone to enjoy the preparations.

Each place setting also has a fine box with elaborate engravings carved into them. In the women's places are jewelry boxes, each lined with dark blue silk and the engravings are of flowers and leaves. For the men, the boxes are plainer and inset with a crest from the Barony of Pyris, but are still silk-lined, but without dividing compartments. Each is fitted with a fine lock and the key rests on top.

Next to each is a medallion in silver which bears a griffon clutching a sword in one claw, on a ribbon of dark blue.

Argent will cheer up quickly as Lord Validar returns.

"I see that you've returned. I trust your visit home was a pleasant one?"

"Indeed it was, Argent the Invoker. Although far too short to truly enjoy, it is always pleasant to return to the land of my birth. But now, we have our own celebration to attend."

At the meal, Validar will raise a toast to the assembled group. "To each of you I salute you. You have assisted in thwarting the plot threatening Pyris and for that the Barony gives her gratitude to you. You have also helped the Barony of Rennydale and assisted in strengthening our mutual alliances and ties. And I also offer to each of you my own personal thanks."

For any that may be away, Validar will present them when they return.

Validar will say his goodbyes to Kharyna's group, not going so far as to kiss the ladies' hands, after spending some time alone with Kharyna before she leaves. "I wish you all well and much glory and excitement. May you each find that which you are most looking for."

Validar will also say good bye to Sherwood, Lilia and Kylie. "I am certain our paths will meet again. We both have different paths to take, but I have a dire feeling that perhaps there is a sinister hand behind both avenues we will be exploring. If I am wrong, then good luck with your quests. If I am right, then may we each strive to do our best until our goals are one again."

Addressing those that remain, "The Guardians of the Light will have the rest of the day to prepare for our departure to Corunglain. We will ride at first light."

Grondar:

Lord Validar's return heralds a fine feast, and a mysterious gift as well. Grondar admires the box he finds before his place at the table; the workmanship is exquisite, and he can't help appreciating the tiny working of the lock and hinges. After examining the items, Grondar puts the medalion in the box and locks it. Before he goes to bed, he will add it to his pack.

Grondar smiles in pleasure over the fine speech. He will raise a glass in toast to the young noble, and then to all their wondrous group. "It has been my great pleasure to serve with you all, and I would not hesitate to stand with any one of you again. To the Guardians of the Light, and to those who leave to seek other paths! Huzzah!"

Afterwards, Grondar enjoys the feast and the company of his companions. He cheerfully sociallizes with everyone and, while not wild, it is clear that he is having a very good time.
Kylie wrote:As they depart, Kylie spots Grondar in the crowd, waving. Stepping forward, she addresses the dwarven priest. "You are one of the few dwarves I have met, and the first I can call friend. Take care of yourself and these others, and I hope we will meet up again someday."
A smile breaks across Grondar's craggy face. "It has been a pleasure meeting and adventuring with you, my lady. I wish you great fortune on your travels, and will pray that the gods smile on your quest. I believe there is even more to you than you know. Have no doubt that we will meet again."

Kylie:

Kylie overhears Acerion's proposition to Swanny and thinks to herself, Ewww... When the time comes, she choses not to have him kiss her hand.
Argent wrote:"You could put it that way", Argent will agree. "However, I don't believe I terrorized anyone myself. That was Edwina's task."
Argent's comment draws a chuckle from Kylie. "Aye, and she's still doing a good job of it. I'm still mad at her for pigging out on those tarts I made on our last visit."

Kylie is a bit bemused by Ivy's vows. It's hard for her to understand why a woman wouldn't want to look good. However, priests are a different breed, so she supposes that allowances must be made.

The fine feast on Validar's return leaves Kylie a bit stunned, particularly the jewelry box and medalion. Both are quite beautiful and well-made. Though sad, Kylie enjoys the feast, knowing that she will not see such again for a long time. She also takes the opportunity to say goodbye to all those she has not already done so with.

"You may be right, Validar. Sure they both signal dire things happening in our world. Whether they are connected, we shall see," Kylie replies. "Also, I wanted to thank you for the beautiful jewelry box and the silver medalion. I will treasure them both."

"I-I- Thank you, Grondar," Kylie stammers. "Goodbye, my friend. Until we meet again."

The feast...

"You are very welcome, Kylie Lanthorn of Elcadan. The box is from myself. The woodworkers of Pyris are amongst the finest in the land. It is a speciality of ours. The medallion however, comes from the Barony herself. It is a medal of honor. Not one easily given. The Baron is very thankful that we have completed this task satisfactorily. In the right circles, displaying this medallion may prove beneficial and in others it may prove harmful. In any case, you are always welcome in Pyris."

Lyonessa:

Lyonessa is quite impressed by the feast and gifts laid out for everyone by Validar. Although she doesn't eat or drink heavily, she does enjoy everyone's company and takes part in the toast.

Later on she catches what Validar tells Kylie about the box and medallion. It is a beautiful pair of gifts, and she will make sure to pack them with care before they leave. She will approach Validar to let her thanks be known to him also. "I also want to thank you for such beautiful and generous gifts," Lyonessa will say. "You said the boxes were from yourself, did you mean you crafted them? Impressive quality no matter who the craftsman is."

Time allowing at the feast, Lyonessa will play for the assembled group. She will do her best to bring everyone into the words and music and paint a story that they can almost reach out and physically touch. She can not, of course, relate firsthand the experience of cleansing the water, but will tell it in detail what she did witness. Finishing the tale with the new forest being brought into existence and the upbeat mood that all the groups are preparing to set out on new adventures will definitely take them well into the night where everyone is no doubt ready to drift off into welcome slumber.

Lyonessa will, before going to sleep herself, cast her find familiar spell, making sure to cast it with enough time for the familiar to appear. If need be, she will cast it before the feast begins.

"You, too, are most welcome, Lyonessa of Mystra. Alas, I am not as capable as the hands that crafted this fine treasure, priestess. My talents tend to lie more in the martial and military sides of things. I could craft a ballista or a catapult perhaps, but that would not be a nice present, except in very particular circumstances," Validar says with a smile. "I am sure we will meet with even more glory and honor in the travels that lie ahead of us and I hope we will find your sister very soon."

Saying goodbyes...

Post by Kharyna »

Kharyna of Mystra -

Kharyna enjoys the shopping excursion, even though she is not really looking for anything for herself. The jewelry is all too basic here and nowhere near the quality she would be interested in.

"Yes, it's always better to do your shopping in places that are specifically for that. Maybe sometime we can all get together for a shopping trip to Alphatia or Ierendi or someplace like that. Much better selections and much more fun!"

"Well, the competition aspect is overrated, afterall, everyone then also has the ability to share in the spells found. However, since you seem to have your mind made up, then I am sure you are following the correct path. May you find what you're looking for."

Argent - "You know, in a year or two from now we can have our apprentices doing this sort of thing. It would fun to have rookies to boss around, although I'm not sure just how good of a teacher I would be. Jallarzi definitely has more patience than I do!"

"I'm not sure I am completely ready for apprentices myself. And who knows how long it's going to take to reclaim the Towers of Gaz, much less anything else. I'm more likely to use an Enchanting Gormet or something rather than have an apprentice right now."

The next day, Lord Validar and Sherwood return and surprisingly there is a nice feast there awaiting everyone. There always was something she liked about that man.

Later, Kharyna will spend some time alone with Lord Validar, thanking him for the gifts and saying her goodbyes.

Eventually the time comes to say goodbyes to everyone.

Not trusting herself to speak at this emotional juncture, Kylie just smiles and revels in her friend's embrace.

Kharyna returns the warm hugs and smiles at her friend. Kharyna waves at the rest of the group and in a moment, they are gone...

Lord Validar in Pyris

Post by Validar »

Lord Validar -

Lord Validar returns to the Castle in Pyris and thanks Sherwood for his assistance.

The Baron appears to have fully recovered from affliction he was suffering from. He is up and in charge of the Barony once more. He'll be greatly interested in Validar's tale and what transpired up in Rennydale.

Validar will meet with his family and is pleased that his father has recovered. He will inform the Baron of the plot and the far-ranging implicantions that have occurred and the results that have taken place. Rennydale is still firmly a strong ally, one that may be called upon should problems escalate with Elcadan.

Later he will review the plans for increases of soldiers here and on the western border in Timberline, as well as the defenses that have been increased due to the treasure Validar returned the last time he was here.

Validar will also meet with the local representative who is handling the arrangements at Twin Forks and see how well that process has begun.

The Lady Ardel is still at Pyris Castle and is eager for any good news regarding her homeland.

Validar will meet with the Lady Ardel and inform her that we have stopped the threat against Pyris and can now move forward in our plan to reclaim Stone Ridge. "We will be leaving for Corunglain, the Duchy that once held the now-lost Barony of Stone Ridge, in the morning," he tells her. "Sherwood will return me to Rennydale and then we ride from there. Unfortunately, my return is very temporary and very short. I hope you will consider spending the rest of the winter here. We would be happy to have you as our guest, Lady Vera."

Validar will also seek out some others briefly while he is here and learnm what may be new with them: Kerwin, Dellant, Lars and his daughter Lara, Lady Angelina, the attendant to Lady Vera, and certainly Lady Gabriella, who followed him here from Gateway with Arocken.

The time passes all too quickly for the young noble, and though he sleeps well and eats heartily while in Castle Pyris, the young noble's thoughts are already on the next adventure long before he is ready to leave.

Kylie takes careful note of Validar's words. She will have to be discreet in whom she shows it to. "Please, then, pass my gratitude on to your father, the Baron. I pray that I shall be able to visit him there some day. It would be nice to see more of the city, as well."

Laucian
Validar soon returns from his affairs as sends word for his comrades to gather for a bit of a feast. He eats sparingly of the cheeses, sweets and drink. He soon notes the gift box placed before him as well as the elaborate token.

Picking the both up he examines them but more so looks at the beauty of the craftsmenship. "Your craftsmen are greatly skilled, Lord Validar. I thank you." Having been shown some woodworking in his training as a priest he can appreciate the work before him.

After Validar's and Grondar's speech he will add a "Here, here." He will enjoy himself with the rest of the time listening to Lyonessa ballad and conversing with his fellows.

As the feast ends he will take both items and gently back them away in his belongings.

As the groups depart Laucian will say goodbye to each in turn, though he will kiss Lara's hand and to Talia merely bow slightly. "May the gods smile upon you. Until next we meet."

Before Sherwood Leaves he will approach him and say," I wanted to thank you. You brought together a fine group of people and I am proud to be among them."
"If you are ever in need of my services you only need send word." He will extend his arm in friendship.

Before Validar's Return:

The Guardian's continue to relax and unwind in Rennydale. Some go into town to shop and explore.

"By the by, does anyone know how to use this thing," Grondar gestures with the Flail, "that might be willing to teach me?"
While no one in the Guardians is proficient in the use of a Flail, the weapons master at Rennydale Castle is. He can show Grondar how to properly use the weapon.

Grondar wrote:Eventually, he stumbles upon a few dwarves in town, most of who seem to work as armorers or weaponsmiths. Not surprising, as dwarves skill in these areas is well known. Grondar will stop in to chat for a while. He offers to lead a quick worship service to honor Berronar, Moradin and the other dwarven gods, but will not press if interest seems lacking.
Grondar will be most welcome among the few dwarves dwelling in Rennydale. Most here are refugees from when Illefarn was overrun decades ago. They haven't had a priest up in this area for a long time and are generally out of touch as far as dwarven news goes. (They are unaware that Illefarn was reclaimed for instance.) Thus they are hungry for any news on the dwarven state of things. Grondar will be invited for a fine dwarven meal and to spend time with the smiths and their families. There's about 30 dwarves or so here in Rennydale.

Acerion will continue to befriend his new mount. The pegasus is reluctant to let others come near it and will even try to move away from some people. (Those of questionable moral character Acerion will guess.)

The stablehands do suppose that making a saddle for the pegasus is possible. One will suggest taking measurements to pass on to a local craftsman. However, the pegasus will not stand still for this and the man is unable to take the measurements. The pegasus will whinny in protest when this is attempted and will even kick out with a hoof, but none of the attacks will find their mark.

Feeding the noble steed proves to be easy. It seems to prefer grass and fruits for the most part.

The testing of its carrying capacity proves to be an easier task. It will be able to take the full weight of Acerion's gear and still be able to fly. (Magical armor has little weight to it, so there's little more to carry than Acerion's own weight and that of his gear. This just falls within the weight limits of the pegasus and is not hindered.)
Lyonessa will, before going to sleep herself, cast her find familiar spell, making sure to cast it with enough time for the familiar to appear. If need be, she will cast it before the feast begins.
Late that afternoon, Lyonessa completes the preparations so that she can cast Find Familiar. She selects a secluded balcony in Castle Rennydale to begin the ritual. The casting begins and the hours slowly pass. (She must continue to cast the spell until the familiar arrives or 24 hours have passed. This is a very long term spell!)

Night has fallen and there has been no response to the spell thus far. Finally, about seven hours into the spell, something does happen. An owl swoops in and lands on the balcony railing. It eyes Lyonessa and lets out a "WHOO!".

Validar in Pyris:

The trip homes goes well. Validar's parents are pleased to see him again and are eager to hear the news he bears. The Baron is relieved that Rennydale was not truly an enemy, but is greatly concerned about the implications that such troubles might also be happening in Corunglain.

"I need not remind you how important Corunglain is in the defensive of the kingdom, Validar. It stands on the main route the humanoid hordes take out of the Broken Lands. If it falls, the entire eastern side of the Streel River would be in jeopardy. This whole region could be thrown into chaos."
Validar will also meet with the local representative who is handling the arrangements at Twin Forks and see how well that process has begun.
The plan is proceeding along slowly. It hasn't been that long since it was started, so there are no tangible results as of yet.

The Lady Ardel will be most pleased to see Validar again. "I can only hope that you will be better received by Duke Corun than I was. He seemed to have little time for me and was more eager to have me betrothed to one of his sons than seeing Stone Ridge liberated. I would be happy to spend the winter here in Pyris, Lord Validar. Thank you for your kind invitation. Do you plan to return soon?"

Validar will also seek out some others briefly while he is here and learn what may be new with them: Kerwin, Dellant, Lars and his daughter Lara, Lady Angelina, the attendant to Lady Vera, and certainly Lady Gabriella, who followed him here from Gateway with Arocken.
There's not a whole lot of news on this front. Lady Angelina will report that Lady Vera seems genuine in her desires to see Stone Ridge liberated. Nothing suspicious there.

Lady Gabriella departed Pyris while Validar was away. She departed to Corunglain on family business.

Validar returns and the feast:

Validar and Sherwood return the next morning and the impromptu feast is held. The gifts are given out and a good time is had by all.

Lyonessa completes the festivities by unveiling her new ballad about the defeat of Vryxnr, the cleansing of the black water, and the transformation of the Beleme Swamp into the Beleme Forest. The Songstress is joined by her new friend, the owl she summoned the night before. The ballad is well received and the festivities last long into the night.

Now what?
Try it and find out!

However, the pegasus will not stand still for this and the man is unable to take the measurements. The pegasus will whinny in protest when this is attempted and will even kick out with a hoof, but none of the attacks will find their mark.

"Woah, woah!" Acerion will call out and move in to calm down the pegasus. He will motion for the stable hands to get clear before one of them winds up with a nasty cut or bruise. "Alright, then, we won't see about getting you a saddle," Acerion will say to the pegasus. "I had a grand one in mind to design for you, but it appears something to not be to your liking, at least right now."

Acerion cares little if the stable hands look at him oddly for talking to the pegasus. Acerion isn't sure himself if the pegasus understands, but he's pretty positive that the general feeling and intentions of his words will reach the animal on some level.

"I'd better get some more practice in if I'm going to ride bareback," Acerion will say and try different load limits. He is releaved that the pegasus can still fly with him fully armed and armored. He will spend some time with the pegasus after the busy day just brushing down and feeding the animal.

Validar's return kicks off a feast, and Acerion will enjoy the company of everyone. He will eat his fill since it has been a little while since such a feast has been available. Lyonessa's ballad is a definite treat for the remainder of the evening. Acerion will seek out to sit near Ivy and enjoy some wine together if she is willing while listening to the rousing tale.

Later on, either that night or the following morning, Acerion will seek out Validar. He will clasp arms with the fellow noble and say, "Thanks to you and those who crafted and offered such gifts Validar. They are truly remarkable and their kindness in giving them will not be forgotten. The feast and time with friends and companions was a welcome diversion as well, but much more awaits men like us before we can truly enjoy an extended holiday. Any news from your home worth sharing?"

Grondar:

At the feast, Grondar listens as Lyonessa sings her epic, which tells the tale of their just-completed quest. At the close, he stands and applauds. "A fine ballad, my lady. You do us great honor. By the way, you seem to have a new companion; could you introduce us?"

Grondar does eventually determine that Lord Cavius' weapons master does have the skill necessary to teach him the use of the flail. Unfortunately, time is short. Grondar will learn the rudiments as best he can in the short time, but mastery will have to come slowly.

Discovering that there is indeed a small community of dwarves here, Grondar will spend what time he can with them. He happily joins them for the feast that they so graciously prepare in his honor, though it proves the reason for his absense when Kharyna and her comely band depart. Since it would be a great opportunity to practice her dwarven speech, Grondar offers to introduce Sherra to the dwarves as well. He joyfully shares whatever news he can with them, including that of Illefarn's liberation. He also tells them of the new shrine in Elcadan so they can spread the word to others who might have need to travel there.

Night has fallen and there has been no response to the spell thus far. Finally, about seven hours into the spell, something does happen. An owl swoops in and lands on the balcony railing. It eyes Lyonessa and lets out a "WHOO!".

Lyonessa is quite tired with the spell lasting so long. I now know why taking on a familiar is not something entered lightly Finally her dedication is rewarded by an owl that lands on the nearby railing and seems intent on speaking its mind. "Well hello to you too," Lyonessa says. "Did you have to wake up before responding to my spell?"

At the feast, Grondar listens as Lyonessa sings her epic, which tells the tale of their just-completed quest. At the close, he stands and applauds. "A fine ballad, my lady. You do us great honor. By the way, you seem to have a new companion; could you introduce us?"

"Thank you for the kind words Grondar," Lyonessa replies after finishing her lengthy ballad. She is glad that it appears to be well received. "This is my new familiar, Dusk. I figured since many of our old companions are parting ways that we could use all the additional help we could find," she will tell Grondar.

Lord Validar

Lord Validar -

"The medallion however, comes from the Barony herself. It is a medal of honor. Not one easily given. The Baron is very thankful that we have completed this task satisfactorily. In the right circles, displaying this medallion may prove beneficial and in others it may prove harmful. In any case, you are always welcome in Pyris."

Kylie takes careful note of Validar's words. She will have to be discreet in whom she shows it to. "Please, then, pass my gratitude on to your father, the Baron. I pray that I shall be able to visit him there some day. It would be nice to see more of the city, as well."

"Indeed I shall, when next I am in Pyris, Kylie. The Castle will be open to you if you show this medal and I would be pleased to have you as a guest of our fine city and lands many times in the future."

Laucian - Picking the both up he examines them but more so looks at the beauty of the craftsmenship. "Your craftsmen are greatly skilled, Lord Validar. I thank you." Having been shown some woodworking in his training as a priest he can appreciate the work before him.

"Thank you for the compliment, my elfin friend. You are quite welcome, and you all are certainly deserving."

Validar will return the firm greeting. "The thanks are indeed mine, my friend. It is good to know that we have conquered one vile evil that threatened the Kingdom and our allies, but indeed there is much to still accomplish."

"I am pleased that the feast was well-received. In truth, I know not when we will have the opportunity for such again. We ride on Corunglain, which is little more than a military outpost. There will be much more fighting in those lands than merriment to be sure. Even assuming that all is well in Corunglain, and word has it that it is not, we will be going from there to even more dire areas under the direct control of the vile humanoid invaders. In truth an extended holiday seems many, many moons away."

"Thankfully all seems well and quiet at home. Everything has settled there and we have been building our defenses not only in the case that Elcadan turns her eyes our way, but that we can actively participate in helping to strengthen the lands on the borders. When Stone Ridge is firmly within our grasp again, there will be the need for a stronger defense than it once had to stay free again. With luck, there will be no important news from home, until we have made some serious progress on our mission. Of that I can only hope."

Later, Lord Validar will make sure that they have all the supplies the need including enough food for an extended journey, just in case.

--------------------- in Pyris -----------------------------
The trip homes goes well.

"Indeed I am aware of Corunglain's importance, Baron. The recovery of Stone Ridge and the two Forts on the border of the Broken Lands are goals of mine, but vital is Corunglain's health and military strength. My comrades and I are on our way from Rennydale to Corunglain herself to see if we can help to stabilize their situation more. If all were to go well, this could lead to an incursion into the Broken Lands or at least the recovery of Fort Runnels and Fort Fletcher and possibly even reclaiming Stone Ridge."

"I believe in the same ideas that the Kingdom held in her push into the Keln Frontier. It is always better to take the fight to them on the enemy's lands rather than fight it defensively on your own soil and risk your own women and children. We will do the same in the Broken Lands to stabilize this front, by reclaiming all that was lost and push out new strongholds in the Humanoids' lands. Then this area will no longer be under constant worry of invasion."

There's not a whole lot of news on this front. Lady Angelina will report that Lady Vera seems genuine in her desires to see Stone Ridge liberated. Nothing suspicious there.

Lady Gabriella departed Pyris while Validar was away. She moved on to Corunglain for family business.

Lord Validar will be happy to hear that all is calm here at the castle and that no new worries have arisen in his absence. He is pleased to see Lady Ardel, although he is somewhat disappointed that Lady Gabriella had moved on while he was away. She had the most wonderful green eyes. While he hoped that he would be able to see her again soon, he also preferred that she may have left before any problems arose there in Corunglain. Unfortunately that would have likely brought her back through Pyris, which hadn't happened. She may still be there, which definitely concerned him.

"I am certain that I will be able to grab the good Duke's attention, milady. We will be pleased to have you. I trust Lady Angelina has been a good host to you. There is no need for you to travel afar and if all goes according to my plans, then by being here you will be closer to Stone Ridge when we finally liberate her from the humanoid scum who infest her lands as we speak."

"As for my return, I cannot now say. There is word that some problems have come against Corunglain itself and even though we have in fact defeated the evil behind the Black Water and freed untold numbers from its influence, there could be many dire battles ahead of us that are related or even unrelated that must be overcome. I am leaving in the morning for Rennydale and from there, we will ride on Corunglain the following day."

"There is much to do. I would like to see the Forts that have been lost reclaimed and held and then move on Stone Ridge and Ardelphia. It is hard to say how many steps of conflict we will have on that path."

"However, I can promise you that I will return and we will reclaim your lands from the evil that has held them."

While brushing Starfire's flank he can't help but overhear the commotion of Acerion's new mount. Concerned he comes out of the stall and looks about.

Several startled stablehands are moving away from a very upset Pegusus.

Woah, woah!" Acerion will call out and move in to calm down the pegasus.

Moving closer but far enough away not to spook the pegasus, "I beg your pardon but I couldn't help but overhear the commotion. Perhaps I could be of some assitance to you, my friend."

Seeing Acerion's concerned features he will add, "I have always been good around animals, even as a child." Motioning to Starfire, "He is a spirited stallion, one of which many of my temple could not approach or handle. I was one of the few that could."

"I would not want to distress your mount any further than he has been. Though I could try when you and your mount are better acquainted."

Curious he will ask, "Have you named him yet?"

Sherwood:

Having been the one to bring Validar back, Sherwood is aware of the treats he brings with him. He certainly was not expecting, or even really desired, any rewards, but will quietly accept the box and the medal without any fuss. "You're most welcome", is about all that he says on the matter.
"Our paths will definitely cross again, Validar. I'll try to look in on the Guardians when I can. May good fortunate follow you."

Sherwood will take the time to say his personal goodbyes to the rest of the Guardians before he departs for Rifllian.

Argent:
Argent's comment draws a chuckle from Kylie. "Aye, and she's still doing a good job of it. I'm still mad at her for pigging out on those tarts I made on our last visit."
"Oh, I think she'd done that to all of us. Edwina is a very unique being. You have to accept her as she is as I doubt she'll ever change for anyone. If you can do that, then she's not so bad to deal with."

Kharyna wrote:"Yes, it's always better to do your shopping in places that are specifically for that. Maybe sometime we can all get together for a shopping trip to Alphatia or Irendi or someplace like that. Much better selections and much more fun!"
"Now that does sound interesting. I've always wanted to visit Irendi and really never considered traveling all the way to Alphatia. Guess I'm going to have to adventure some more to gain enough gold for such an expedition!"

Kharyna wrote:"I'm not sure I am completely ready for apprentices myself. And who knows how long it's going to take to reclaim the Towers of Gaz, much less anything else. I'm more likely to use an Enchanting Gourmet or something rather than have an apprentice right now."
Argent will nod in agreement. "I'm still learning and don't consider myself wise enough or skilled enough to teach someone else. Besides, it would take time away from other worthwhile pursuits!"

Argent is greatly surprised when Lord Validar returns bearing gifts and the makings of a feast. "Some advanced notice would have been appreciated here. I would have made myself up better."

Regardless, Argent will quickly return her room, changing into her best dress, the red one, use Cantrips to help with her make up and done her best jewelry, including her tiara. Then she'll return for the feast.

Argent will be appreciative when she receives her gifts. She'll move her fingers across the fine jewelry box. "Now this is something I can use. Of course, you realize that I'm going to expect you to add more things to my collection now. Thank you, Lord Validar. Thank you very much."

To show her appreciation, Argent will give the young noble a kiss on the cheek. Later, she'll move her jewelry collection into the box and seal it with a Wizard Lock.

She'll applaud and show her appreciation for Lyonessa's fine ballad. "There's nothing like having ones deeds immortalized in song. Bravo, Songstress!"

Ivy:
"I understand, priestess", Argent will say. "Still there is no reason you can't be thrifty and look good at the same time. After all, you are the representative of your goddess in our group and clothes can help shape one's first impression of you. I'm sure we can find clothing that will look good on you and not violate your vows."

When learning that Ivy is primarily looking for blues but not finding them, Argent will add, "That is an easy situation to rectify, Ivy. I can change the color of garments with a Cantrip. We can have you in you proper colors in the morning!"
"What you say, does make sense, Argent," Ivy will say after some consideration. "Very well, if we can find something nice but not too expensive, I would be most grateful."

Ivy is amazed when Argent says that she can change the color of garments with her magic. "That does change things considerably, Argent. If you could do that I would be most appreciative. Is there some way I can compensate you for your efforts?"

Another surprise is in store for Ivy when Lord Validar returns with his gifts. Fortunately, Ivy was a bit better dressed this day and has no need to change clothes. She wore one of the new dresses that Argent helped her pick out. She'll blush in embarrassment when receiving her gifts and will gratefully thank Lord Validar for them.

Ivy had intended to spend some time with Lord Acerion today, provided he was not busy with his pegasus. She'll happily sit with him and sample small portions of wine while listening to Lyonessa's epic ballad.

Post by Sherra »

Sherra:
"But Auntie Swanny, doesn't the sharp end go away from us?" he says with a wide grin on his face. Though he soon learns that Swanny is trained in such a weapon and listens intently. "An interesting way to sum it up." Taking a stick up from the ground, Chareos imitates what Swanny has said, "Like this?" He will listen to what she has to say and try to replicate it in his movements.
Sherra will laugh at Chareos' humor, but will be grateful for whatever Swanny is able to teach before she departs. Once she's pretty positive she's not going to accidently cut her own arm off, she will spar with either or both of them for the time remaining.
Sherra is pleasantly surprised by Grondar's offer and she will accompany him to meet with the dwarves. She will do her best to speak only dwarvish and listen intently to everything said. Any words or difficult phrases she has yet to master, she will try to figure out by the rest of the conversation that she does understand. Anything she still may not have figured out, she will ask Grondar about later.

Sherra will be impressed with the feast as well as the gifts. Like everyone else, she will enjoy the time together, for it may be a long time before she sees some of them again. She will stay and listen to Lyonessa's ballad as well, and marvel at the woman's voice and talent. As the evening draws late, she will head outside and take in the night air on top one of the castle walls. Sherra will enjoy the dark and the night's coldness and reflect on everything that has transpired of late.

That following morning, she will approach Validar as others have already and thank him for the gifts. Sherra doesn't have much else to say, instead preparing for their eventual departure by stowing her gear and tending to her horse. If there is time that morning, she will locate a practice field and use it for practicing firing her bow from horseback both stationary and while moving. She wonders if it was wise to have taken on so many new weapons skills to learn at one time, but she wants to be as versatile as possible in the coming weeks and months.

Chareos

As the lesson of the shortsword continues, Chareos becomes more and more familiar as time passes.

Given the oppurtunity he will spar with Swanny as well as Sherra, though first removing his girdle.

As the surprised feast takes place Chareos enjoys himself eating and drinking sparingly. He listens as Lyonessa plays her well worked ballad. He smiles as the tale is retold and claps when she is finished.

Validar makes a speech and presents each of us with gifts. Picking up the Medal of honor he will look at it for a time. Never had he would've dreamed receiving such an honor. A little lost for words he will seek out Validar afterward and give his thanks to him as well as his father, "I thank you for your gifts, Lord Validar. I will wear them with pride when the time comes."
"How was your visit to Pyris?" he will ask.

When the feast comes to an end he will go for a walk about the ramparts relaxing and soon retire for the evening

Grondar:

"Hello, Dusk," Grondar says to Lyonessa's winged companion. "A pleasure to meet you." Then, turning to the lady bard, "Sounds like a wise plan. We can always use more friends and companions."

At the feast, Grondar joins the discussion with lords Acerion and Validar. "It is good to hear that all is well in Pyris. I trust your father is recovering well. No doubt it will be long before we are able to return, or even get that holiday you mentioned, Validar. At least, by time we do, both the kingdom at large and both your families' holdings should be substantially safer." He glances back and forth between the two nobles.

Pleased that Sherra has consented to join him in visiting the dwarven families of Rennydale, he introduces her as a friend who is learning their language. He takes care to make sure that she understands enough to not feel too out of place.

Acerion & the Pegasus:

"Whoa, whoa!" Acerion will call out and move in to calm down the pegasus. He will motion for the stable hands to get clear before one of them winds up with a nasty cut or bruise. "Alright, then, we won't see about getting you a saddle," Acerion will say to the pegasus. "I had a grand one in mind to design for you, but it appears something to not be to your liking, at least right now."
The pegasus will calm down as Acerion speaks to it and is even more relaxed when the stable hands leave. In a matter of minutes it's as if nothing had ever happened. Otherwise, the pegasus is very attentive and does seem to understand what Acerion is saying to him.

Later when Laucian comes over, the pegasus remains at ease. Likewise, the pegasus has no defensive reaction when Ivy is near.

Grondar, Sherra, & the Dwarves:
He joyfully shares whatever news he can with them, including that of Illefarn liberation. He also tells them of the new shrine in Elcadan so they can spread the word to others who might have need to travel there.
Several of the dwarves are very happy to hear this news and will make plans to return to their ancestral home. One dwarf, a grizzled old timer who is no longer able to work will say, "What of the Thunderdelve, priest? Have they reclaimed Thunderdelve? I want to see it again before Moradin calls me. It was my home so long ago…"

Lyonessa & Dusk:
Lyonessa is quite tired with the spell lasting so long. I now know why taking on a familiar is not something entered lightly Finally her dedication is rewarded by an owl that lands on the nearby railing and seems intent on speaking its mind. "Well hello to you too," Lyonessa says. "Did you have to wake up before responding to my spell?"
Lyonessa will feel the light mental presence of the owl in her mind as it responds to her query. While no words are spoken, she can feel that the owl said, "Yes" to her and that it prefers nighttime to daytime.

Lord Validar

Lord Validar -

Having been the one to bring Validar back, Sherwood is aware of the treats he brings with him. He certainly was not expecting, or even really desired, any rewards, but will quietly accept the box and the medal without any fuss. "You're most welcome", is about all that he says on the matter.

Lord Validar will nod his silent response, meeting Sherwood's eyes for a moment.

"Our paths will definitely cross again, Validar. I'll try to look in on the Guardians when I can. May good fortune follow you."

"And the same to you, Lord Sherwood." The title is not said to irritate the ranger/mage, but to offer a sign of respect considering that it may be some time before they meet again.

Argent is greatly surprised when Lord Validar returns bearing gifts and the makings of a feast. "Some advance notice would have been appreciated here. I would have made myself up better."

"Had there been advance notice, then it wouldn't have been a surprise, now would it, Validar says with a grin. "Sherwood and I felt the group deserved one last dinner together before splitting up."

Regardless, Argent will quickly return her room, changing into her best dress, the red one, use Cantrips to help with her make up and don her best jewelry, including her tiara. Then she'll return for the feast.

Validar will notice Argent's arrival. It is clear she is dressing for a statement. He takes a drink from his cup. "You look quite wonderful, Argent. I see you have quite an impressive collection of jewels. It seems that the gifts here will certainly suit you well."

"As before, the thanks are all mine. As for adding to your collection, my hopes are that our escapades will be most profitable as well as noble. The reconstructions we will face will take much wealth and therefore it is certain that we will need to liberate much treasure from whatever evil may have hoarded it."

Kylie - "Thank you for the kind invitation, Lord Validar. It would be my pleasure to visit your fine city once again. Perhaps I will even have the honor of meeting your parents."

"As I am certain they would be pleased to meet a member of our group and an honored guest of the Barony."

Validar makes a speech and presents each of us with gifts. Picking up the Medal of honor Chareos will look at it for a time.

"The gifts are earned, my friend. The thanks are mine. As for the visit to the Barony, it was far too short. However, we have many responsibilites here and much good to do. The Baron is well and all is back to normal at the castle. Therefore, I can afford to be where we can do the most good."

"Indeed he is, my dwarven friend. Thank you for your concern. We have thwarted the enemy and staved off the attacks within our border, thanks to all of those assembled here." Validar will look around at the group, a much more cohesive band than the Seekers ever seemed to be. Of course, the sheer number of deaths that they faced while in the Frontier was sure to put some people more on edge. He thinks back to that time and is glad he is here. This part of the kingdom is where he is needed now. There are many to adventure in the Keln lands.

"I have steeled myself to the fact that I may not see Castle Pyris again for some time. In truth, the feeling that I have is much the same as going on campaign with the army. And this mission of ours is certainly no less important than the claiming of the land around Gateway or the military battles we fought cleansing the humanoids from the Keln border to open up the Frontier there to adventurers."

Validar will raise his goblet to his dwarven friend. "I pray you are correct and that we will accomplish all that we set out to do. If so, then our holiday will be well deserved and well earned and we will return as heroes. And our homes will not only be safer, but also a place to appreciate all the more."

The group seems to enjoy themselves between the food and the music and the company. Eventually goodbyes are said and those that remain of the Guardians retire for the evening. Validar sleeps deeply as usual and is awake before dawn.

He will ready his mounts as well as be certain that all supplies are ready for their trip. Sherra is there and thanks him for the gifts of the previous day.

"It is but a small token of the Barony's appreciation and of mine. What do you think of the composition of this group?", Validar will ask before she heads out to practice her bow. "I am a bit concerned about losing so many mages, but our fighting abilities are quite strong nontheless."
