Crucible #34 - "Siege and Besieged: Part Two"
Prologue:
Inside the expansive ADT Complex, Chimera has located a kindred spirit. While exploring on her own, Chimera discovered that one of the labs was occupied by a Dr. Theresa Holland.
"I had made the decision to use my energy gauntlets to make things right awhile ago," Dr. Holland said from the small storage closet. "Even the score with all those pigs that held me back! To that end I worked in secret to create a suitable costume for myself. While perhaps not the most fashionable, it will suit my needs. It had been my intention to make off with the gauntlets this weekend with everyone was away."
Dr. Holland stepped out into the open once more. This time she had ditched her regular clothes and was wearing a tight-fitting orange and red bodysuit. The outfit completely covered her body and opaque goggles protected her eyes. An energy gauntlet was on each arm.
"Dr. Photon is ready to even up the score!"
"Very good", Chimera easily stated. "I had hoped to locate equipment that I could use in my research, so finding you was a welcomed, but unexpected bonus."
"What's the plan?"
Chimera considered for a moment. "One of my associates is being held by PRIMUS up in the Cell Testing area. We need to free her before we can leave. Any ideas?"
After a moment's thought, Dr. Photon said, "We can always cut power to that level? There's a power distribution room on that floor. Follow me. I'll take you to it."

Roll Call: Flux, Tesla, Nemesis, & Starguard
The fighting on board the Tyrixx Warship continues.
Flux swats the bug menacing Starguard, hurting. Starguard stabs it with his energy pike and pierces its exoskeleton. The Tyrixx Warrior dies in the usual shower of gore.
Tesla scores a direct hit on the bug clinging to the ceiling and knocks it to the deck. The bug seems to be stunned after the powerful attack.
Seeing that particular bug is not a concern right now, Nemesis turns her attention back to the shaft where another Tyrixx is crawling out. She blasts it out of existence with her plasma blast.
Flux picks up the warrior stunned by Tesla and gives it a mighty heave back down the shaft! The helpless bug slams hard into another Tyrixx causing its exoskeleton to rupture, exposing its insides to hard vacuum. The bug struck looses its grip and plunges down the shaft deeper into the warship.
The last two Tyrixx emerge into the chamber. Both attempt to employ their stingers and stab Flux and Nemesis, but each miss.
GM Notes:
That takes us up to the end of Phase 5.

Seeing that the darkness is not hindering the cyborg at all, Blackout wills it away while staying on guard. The cyborg rushes Blackout with the intent of stabbing him with his cutting blade. Blackout easily avoids the attack.
With the darkness gone, White Crane is suddenly in the midst of things again. She slams her staff right across the cyborg's face with a loud smack. The machine man seems momentarily dazed from the attack.
Frostbite then turns his attention back to the cyborg. Seeing that he's out in the open once more, Frostbite generates a full powered Ice Ram and slams it into the machine man's chest. His aim is true and the cyborg is sent flailing backwards. He hits the floor and lies still, seemingly unconscious.
Now what?

Inside the base of the Steel Squadron, it has been discovered that robot of some type has been tearing up the base. It's currently on a concealed lower level that is only accessible by way of an elevator. Our trio of heroes has decided to go down there and defeat the rampaging robot.
But before they can go down the shaft, a communication comes over the communicator Lily was entrusted with.
"Hello?", Metalla's voice comes from the device. "Can you hear me? We're going to need help back at the castle. Can anyone here me! A squad of Minutemen are approaching the city! Genocide is coming here! Can anyone help us?"
Now what?

The woman in blue and gold armor settled herself into the control center of the weapon. The hatch was sealed and her privacy was insured. Numerous monitors came to life, displaying numerous portions of the ADT Complex.
PRIMUS forces had finally gained access to the buildings security center. However the controls had been locked and nothing they could do would change that. All she had to do was wait for the transfer to be completed. Only 62 minutes to go.

The weapon she had unleashed to deal with the human rabble infesting the building had been defeated by several superhumans. She had no idea why there was an area to create cyborg's underneath ADT. "Still, I hate to leave the robot below entirely free. Either of you have any ideas for closing or collapsing this shaft to slow its ability to leave?"
Lily-Star nods to Eldrich. "Thank you, Eldrich, I'm glad you're with us again. As for your spell, that may be best; less chance of being caught unprepared or of my inhibiting Serena that way."Eldrich wrote:Lily's speach serves to break Eldrich's momentary funk.

"I can use the Folded Step spell to take you down this shaft along with myself, if you have no fear of magic travel."
Just then, a message comes over Lily's communicator:

"Looks like we have a more dire situation back at the castle, and we are being asked to return."Hello?", Metalla's voice comes from the device. "Can you hear me? "Still, I hate to leave the robot below entirely free. Either of you have any ideas for closing or collapsing this shaft to slow its ability to leave?"

"YIKES!", Nemesis cries out as the bug tries to sting her. "Demented bug on deck!"
At least these kind of battles don't need much in the way of strategy-- just blast whatever bug you can find! Blast the evil insect!

The Knight stands ready to proceed down the shaft when a voice speaks to Lily from the magical device she was entrusted with.
"I am puzzled, Lily. Cannot those at the castle deal with a squad of minute men? Are they that dangerous a foe?"
(Obviously, Serena has no idea just what a minuteman really is!)

"I fear that anything I may have to suggest would take time that we do not appear to have. Given the choice, we should deal with the greater menace of the two. Blackout:
"Nice shooting," Blackout calls back to Frostbite as the cyborg falls over and seems to be out of the fight. Blackout wonders if he truly had anything to even sting the cyborg, let alone drop him.
Blackout will go over and pick up his rod and begin to recoil the throwing line, packing it all back neatly into its housing. He's going to have to find out about maybe improving the strength of the line to keep stronger foes down longer if he's planning on using the tactic often.
Until he can research it though, Blackout puts the thought in the back of his mind and waits to see what the next step will be.
"Nice shooting," Blackout calls back to Frostbite as the cyborg falls over and seems to be out of the fight. Blackout wonders if he truly had anything to even sting the cyborg, let alone drop him.

He moves to the unmoving body of the Cyborg with caution ready to blast him again with another Ice ram if he moves. Frosty will crouch down near the Cyborg's gun arm, he will look at the weapon for a momentr then Polaris still unmoving body. A bunch of what ifs come to his mind. And without thinking he reaches out takes the cannon arm in hand and proceeds to bend the barrels.

Tesla will show a little frustration in not being consistent with being able to dispatch these bugs easily. However, everyone continues to work together well and the end result is the same even if it's taking a bit longer.
Tesla will move slightly to keep another target in line and lash out once more with her electricity.

They were created by an organization called Genocide, which seeks to maintain human genetic purity. In their eyes, anyone with superhuman powers that aren't obviously derived from technology must not be truly human.
Lily replies over the communicator. "Lily here, Metalla. We got your message. I don't like leaving the situation here as is, but your need appears greater. We'll be there as soon as we can."
Turning back to Serena and Eldrich, Lily suggests a new course of action. "Let's gather up those Viper agents and head back at our best speed. We'll swing by the Primus base to drop them off." Retaining her Major Star look, Lily will enhance her speed as much as possible and boost her strength just enough to easily carry a couple Vipers. Between her and Serena, they should be able to carry all of them.
Lily grimaces as she tries to recall what she has heard regarding Genocide and the Minutemen. However, we don't know what the creature below wants, but we do know that the Minutemen will kill any metahumans they encounter, including our friends. Giant Minutemen Constructs?

Such contradictions in the words. Large, small men, machines? but Genocide, that meaning is clear enough.
"Destruction is not easily accomplished by the magics I know Lily. I can think of no method of sealing this shaft that the construct could not overcome. In truth, a construct is mostly immune to any spells I know now. If these things are coming to attack Edgar and the others there is little I might do to thwart them. "
"Are there any operaters of these constructs? They would prove more vulnerable to my magics."
As I am not a being of this race these killers will surely wish me dead as well. What a foolish concept - genetic purity.

The fighting on the Tyrixx Warship continues.
The last two Tyrixx Warriors crawl out of the shaft. Tesla greets the first with an electrical blast, slowing it down. The follow up attack bursts its exoskeleton, slaying the monster.
Starguard is ready for the other warrior. His energy pike stabs once more. The first streak damages the body armor and the second pierces it. Another batch of Tyrixx guts are sucked out into space.
With the area clear of threats, Starguard heads down the shaft motioning for everyone else to follow. As he flies down the shaft, Starguard refers to the sensor display on his right gauntlet. The heat source you've been tracking is drawing closer.
As you go down the shaft other entry hatches are encountered. They are all sealed at the moment. (Not a big surprise as it is a hard vacuum in the shaft!)
About fifty feet down, Starguard slows his descent. He digs his armored hands into a panel in the wall and rips it out. He looks inside the small opening. It appears to be a junction box of some type. An energy dagger forms in his hand and with it he stabs something inside. Sparks fly out in response and you each can feel the tug of gravity going away.
Starguard then continues down the shaft. He stops at the next hatch he comes to and gestures for everyone to gather around. He makes several military style hand gestures that Flux and Tesla will be able to decipher. The heat source you've been tracking is on the other side of the hatch! Be on guard for trouble. He gestures for Flux to force the reinforced hatch open while he and the others move back.
Flux lands before the hatch and digs his hands into the door's seam. The metal resists at first, but then is forced open with a loud groan of protest. The small opening is enough to break the vacuum seal. The atmosphere inside the chamber explodes outward.
After the wind of the explosive decompression has abated, Flux greatly enlarges the opening and steps through the hatch. Everyone else follows.
There is a vast chamber on the other side of the hatch. You cannot see the other side of the room and the ceiling is over twenty feet high. It is mostly dark, but there is enough light to see properly. Several things do get the heroes immediate attention.
Nearly a dozen dead Tyrixx bodies float near the hatch. While somewhat similar in shape to the Warriors you've been battling, they are only half the size. They seem to lack the body armor of the warriors and when the chamber was exposed to space they were instantly killed. They were also violently propelled against the inside of the hatch leaving lots of goo on the inside of the door.
There are two bright areas inside the chamber. Over forty feet away you can see the glowing body of Goldstar! She's laying unconscious inside a large clear tube. The usual glitters that surround her body are being siphoned away into several tubes.
A mere fifteen feet way is something that resembles a giant fish tank with more tubes leading away from it. Some type of glowing energy can be seen within the container.
Last, and definitely not least, there are four more Tyrixx Warriors still in the chamber. Each one is standing on a surface of the chamber and are not floating do the lack of gravity. As if that wasn't bad enough, there is an even larger Tyrixx here!
It's nearly twice as big as the Warriors, standing over thirteen feet high! But unlike the warriors, this one has large insect-like wings. The Warriors all rush to defend their Queen against the intruders!

Finally, you've located the object of your search!
The artificial gravity has been removed, so everyone is flying under their own power now. The warriors appear to be content sticking to the walls, floor and ceiling of this large room.

That matter taken care of, everyone turns their attention back to Gladiator and the fallen Polaris. In the background, White Crane helps Psi-Lad back to his feet.
In a few moments, Polaris begins to come around. The bleeding has already stopped and the wounds begin to heal at a greatly accelerated rate.
While this is happening, Gladiator relates what has transpired.
"Obviously, this building is not as deserted as we expected it to be. Something is jamming outside communications. Once the prisoners were placed in their cells, we went in search of what was causing the jamming in an attempt to remove it. Our search led us to the ground floor where we found the guards and their assailant. Psi-Lad was picking up traces of mental energy."
Psi-Lad and White Crane join the group. "I figured out what it was I was sensing", Psi-Lad explains. "That thing was being mentally controlled by someone else! Another intellect was making it attack us! I tried to block their control, but couldn't. Its more machine than man now and beyond my ability to control."
"Then we are dealing with someone who can mentally control machines", Gladiator concludes. "Someone who could be watching us even now."
Everyone glances at the omnipresent security cameras in the area.
"When I sensed this other psionic earlier, they were higher up in the building", Psi-Lad adds. "I'll scan again for psionic activity."
After a few moments of concentration, Psi-Lad will announce that, "They've moved. They are now below us, underneath the building."

Our search led us to the ground floor where we found the guards and their assailant. Psi-Lad was picking up traces of mental energy."
Psi-Lad and White Crane join the group. "I figured out what it was I was sensing", Psi-Lad explains. "That thing was being mentally controlled by someone else! Another intellect was making it attack us! I tried to block their control, but couldn't. Its more machine than man now and beyond my ability to control."
"Then we are dealing with someone who can mentally control machines", Gladiator concludes. "Someone who could be watching us even now."
Everyone glances at the omnipresent security cameras in the area.
"When I sensed this other psionic earlier, they were higher up in the building", Psi-Lad adds. "I'll scan again for psionic activity."
After a few moments of concentration, Psi-Lad will announce that, "They've moved. They are now below us, underneath the building."
Now what?

The distances are fairly close to each other. Castle to Foundry is about 2.5 miles, Foundry to ADT about 3 miles, and ADT to castle about 4 miles. Time wise it would be about 3-4 minutes to fly from the Foundry to ADT, 4-5 minutes from Foundry to ADT, with the last leg being around 5-6 minutes. Gritting his teeth he takes hold of the barrel and slowly begins to bend it to the desired effect. Before moving off to the others he coats the Cyborg in ice. " That outta hols ya for a while."
Once done he makes his way towards the others, " How is he?" he asks Gladiator. But his eyes answer the question as he watches the wounds slowly close and begin healing themselves. "Huh, That must come in handy!!.

Dont worry Gladiator Im not gonna blow em up merely gloss em over." He then gestures at the camera(and any other cameras he may come across) and coat the cameras in ice.

The wounds Polaris had suffered seem to be healing up quickly and efficiently. That is definitely something to be thankful for. Blackout listens to the information that Gladiator and Psi-Lad offer up, although it doesn't seem to quite put a cap on the mystery.
Frostbite's idea of taking out the cameras is a good one, but Blackout's hoping that we'll be moving too quickly for it to even be a consideration. Still, it might be worthwhile, especially if it takes Psi-Lad some time to narrow down where these idividuals might now be holding up.
Blackout hears the strain of metal and realizes Frostbite has bent the cyborg's weapon barrel. "Alright, I won't be arm wrestling you," Blackout says with a chuckle as he stores his rod back in its holster.The battle with the killer cyborg is over with. While Blackout collects his throwing line, Frostbite bends the barrel of the cyborg's machine gun. It's an effort, but with his enhanced strength Frostbite is able to accomplish the task.

Nemesis flies after the others as they move down the shaft deeper into the ship of bugs. Jen watches as Starguard does some more sabotage, but isn't quite sure just what he is doing. Down at the hatchway, the others exchange hand signals but Jen has no idea just what they mean.
"Hey! What are you saying?", she cries out, but no sound is heard.
Having little choice but to watch, Jen flies off a short distance to give everyone room to operate. Flux forces open another door and we run into more bugs!
"We've found Goldstar!", Nemesis says as she flies into the large room. "And that's not all! It's the mother of all bugs!"
Jen tries to remember her lessons from Gladiator about accessing threats during battle. It was concentrate on the biggest threat first, wasn't it?

The Knight listens as Lily continues to speak to Metalla through the small magical box. A decision is quickly reached and Serena is dispatched to bring the prisoners to the front of the base. Pausing only to enhance her own strength, Serena will pick up the Snake Men and bring them along.
Outside, Lily has changed forms once more and is now a large dragon!
"Zounds!", Serena mouths in amazement. "Is there no end to the forms you can achieve?"
Serena will do as requested and help get the snake men situated on Lily. Then Serena will step on top of Lily.
"My enchanted boots will help keep me steady", Serena will say. "I think we're ready to go."

In the heart of the Tyrixx Warship, the heroes have finally located Goldstar. Only one small problem holds up that reunion. More Tyrixx Warriors and their queen!
Tesla acts first and launches an electrical blast. The closest Warrior is struck and tossed backwards. However, it survives the attack.
Flux grows to his full height and orientates himself lengthwise within the chamber. Before he can move forward to attack the queen, the queen attacks him! Moving with dazzling speed, the large insect comes forward and pierces Flux with her stinger! Pain shoots through Flux's body from the attack and he momentarily blacks out.
Starguard stabs the queen in retaliation with his energy pike. The queen isn't hurt, but she is driven away from Flux.
Nemesis flies in and settles the issue with a plasma blast. The superhot ionized gas pierces the queen's exoskeleton and her inners are sucked out into space. Flux comes to his senses just after the queen perishes.
The remaining Tyrixx Warriors go berserk in response to the death of their queen and attack with a wild frenzy! They launch themselves at their enemies, but lacking the skills to move without gravity, they are easily avoided.
Tesla blasts the one she attacked earlier and this time pierces his exoskeleton, taking him out of the fight. Starguard targets a different Tyrixx and stabs it with his energy pike.
Nemesis blasts another warrior away with her Plasma Blast, the insect being most vulnerable to the super-heated attack.
Flux gets in on the act and smacks one of the other warriors with the back of his hand. The insect is sent rocketing backwards and it slams into the bulkhead at a fantastic speed leaving little better than a smear on the wall.
Tesla sets up the last Tyrixx Warrior with her electrical attack, allowing Starguard to come in from the side and stab it with his energy pike. Just like that, the last Tyrixx is eradicated.
You find yourselves alone in the vast chamber with only the sleeping Goldstar and the strangely glowing tank.
Now what?

"General directions will be fine", Gladiator says in encouragement. "And as Blackout suggested, let us keep moving and not give the enemy a chance to ambush us. Let's head back to the lobby."
Gladiator turns on his heel and begins to jog back to the lobby where the security guards were first found. Frostbite ices over security cameras as the group moves.
"We best take the stairs to reach the lower levels", Gladiator will say. "If they can control machinery, then I'd just assume not be inside something they can control."
After locating the stairs, the heroes travel down two levels. The stairs end at this point. You're currently outside the boiler room.
"We need to go down further", Psi-Lad will say. "The mentalist is still lower then us. But how?"
Now what?
"I can only sense the general direction", Psi-Lad sheepishly offers. "I'm not very good with my powers yet. Nightengale has only had a few training sessions with me so far. "Glad you could make it," Metalla offers. "According to Edgar, the Minutemen should be here at any moment. Get ready."
How are you going to prepare for the upcoming attack?

Genocidal Machines
Lily:
Lily waits patiently as the others gain purchase along her spine. "Everyone seated? Hang on!"
At first the flying is a bit awkward, but soon Lily gets the hang of it and is able to achieve decent speed. Arrowing over the city, the reach their castle base before Genocide's forces can arrive. As they approach, Lily scans the area for any sign of Rose. Swooping in low, Lily lands on one of the castle's towers. They are greeted there by Edgar, Metalla and the blue moron.
"Edgar, can you and Dr Marin find some way to restrain these men we brought back. As VIPER agents, they should be considered to be under citizen's arrest until we can turn them over to the proper authorities."
To prepare for the battle, Lily will locate Rose, ensure that she is alright, then find as safe a place as possible for her - probably deep inside the castle somewhere. Once Rose is reasonably secure, Lily will switch to her Major Star form once again, focussing her power on strength and speed.

To prepare for the battle, Lily will locate Rose, ensure that she is alright, then find as safe a place as possible for her - probably deep inside the castle somewhere. Once Rose is reasonably secure, Lily will switch to her Major Star form once again, focussing her power on strength and speed.
Frostbite
Frosty lets out a hoarse laugh when Blackout makes his comment. " Awe come on. I could get distracted." as he momentarly thinks of one of his comrades.
"I can only sense the general direction", Psi-Lad sheepishly offers. "I'm not very good with my powers yet. Nightengale has only had a few training sessions with me so far. The closer we get the more exact I can be."
"General directions will be fine", Gladiator says in encouragement. "And as Blackout suggested, let us keep moving and not give the enemy a chance to ambush us. Let's head back to the lobby."
For a moment Frosty feels for the young mutant after all he has gotten his powers only a few days past! "I just got my powers not to long ago as well. Seems we are in the same boat Psi, Just do your best thats all we can do." Inside his head he remembers his coach saying similiar things during hockey games.
he heads down after the others when they come to a stop and Psi says we need to move further down. But how? only thing left is the boileroom he thinks to himself. "Wait a sec.....Perhaps there is some type of Drainage system or pipes leading to the sewers, Maybe even electrical wires running somewhere they wouldnt be needed."
After saying this he will begin looking for Electrical read outs hopefully seeing if there are any maintence areas that mayhave been over looked. if not he wil use his Electrician back ground to look for electrical wiring which would seem outta place.( if he needs to he will go normal if risk of electricution appears.)

Tesla notes to herself as she hits one of the advancing warriors with an electrical blast that the rest of the group is targeting the queen, who seems more than willing to rush into the fight herself. So much for thinking the queen would defend herself only after all her guards were gone and she was threatened Tesla thinks to herself.
Thankfully the queen goes down without her help, so she just continues to focus on finishing off the remaining warriors. In very short order, there are no adversaries left in the chamber.
Tesla will wait until Starguard, and anybody else, has a look at how Goldstar is hooked up to all the machinery before attempting to help free her.

Blackout agrees with not taking the elevator or using any other mechanical devices at this point. Moving together, everyone hits the stairs, but they finally stop, but Psi-Lad needs us to go down further.
Frostbite suggests there might be other ways of getting even lower, and so Blackout will begin searching as well. He'll scan for any sort of access panels or maintenence crawlways. Even a thinner section of flooring might be able to be pried up for us to drop through.

Angry over this, Nemesis points her hands at the queen and unleashes her patented Nemesis-attack. The exact nature of the attack the pink-clad girl generates various, but it is always one that is guaranteed to hurt her target. Sure enough, the Queen's shell is penetrated and she does the horrible sucked out into space in a shower of gore kind of death.
Just like that it's all over with. Jen looks around wondering what to do next. Starguard seems to be in charge of this show, so she'll follow his lead.

Back at the castle, everyone is preparing for battle. Still unsure about just what we're going to be facing, Serena is equally unsure how to prepare. So she settles on her standard strength and agility boasting spell to aid her during the upcoming fight.
