Clash of Empires #1
In the southern hemisphere of Arret lies the Pearl Islands, a tropical archipelago. The chain consists of five large islands and hundreds of smaller ones. On a nameless island in the southern most part of the chain is a place that has come to be called the Duck Blind.
The Duck Blind was created over a thousand years ago. It is a hidden port with a concealed ocean entrance. Inside the Duck Blind are ship building and repair facilities. But ship maintenance was not the original purpose of the Duck Blind. Initially it was used as a place to observe and examine a lost city concealed on this island. An ancient Nithian city called Menkara.
The lost city is overgrown by a tropical jungle and plays host to several different factions. The largest and most powerful faction is the Yaun-Ti and their followers. There are also several species of humanoids that try to carve out their own territory. Rumor even has it that a black dragon lives in the swamps to the east of the city, but it has yet to be seen.
The most interesting faction is a placed called Safe Haven. It is a port of refuge for the unwanted and the unusual. It is run by a drow female calling herself Moonsinger. Moonsinger is a Priestess of Eilistraee, the patron of those rare good drow.
Several other drow live in Safe Haven, along with creatures of other races. What are known as mongrelmen make up the majority of these species. They are a sad race that is a mixture of many other races and they tend to show off the worst features of all their races. The appearance of mongrelmen varies from individual to individual. They are usually clad in dirty rags and try to conceal their appearance from others. The have no language of their own and their names tend to sound like animal noises.
Yesterday, the Carnelia returned to the Duck Blind, bearing supplies and new recruits. There were also two unexpected guests. One was a Priestess of Ishara from Thothia named Fapatri. Ishara is yet another manifestation of Mystra. Visions from her Goddess have caused Fapatri to travel to Seapoint where she met Jylsera.
The other unexpected guest was introduced by the Magist Argent. It was her mentor, the Lady Jallarzi Sallavarian and the gentle Priestess of Azrella, Elspeth. Visions had also driven Elspeth here. Her visions involved Jylsera and the Pyramid of Isis in the Lost City. It was at this pyramid that Elspeth was to instruct someone. Seeing that Elspeth was in good hands, Jallarzi returned to her home and promised to check in regularly.
After breakfast this morning, a small expedition was mounted to head into the Lost City of Menkara. Joining Jylsera, Elspeth and Fapatri, were Argent, Calyra, the ever present Fergus, Zabrina, and Deedra.
Fergus is your longtime companion who is mute. He stands an impressive 6'6" in height and must weight at least 300 pounds. He is solid muscle, but has only a childlike intellect. He has brown hair and gray eyes.
The first destination is the Pyramid of Isis. Along the way, a mongrelperson by the name of Purr is encountered. Jyl had met Purr before and it quickly becomes clear that she is the one Elspeth and Fapatri are to instruct. This time Purr is allowed into the Pyramid along with Fapatri and Elspeth.
Knowing that they would be safe, Jylsera leads the adventurers to explore the city. Along the way the group fights off a small band of Yaun-ti and encounters a treasure pit guarded by a naga. Finally, they reach what had once been the Royal Palace of Menkara.
A high stone wall surrounds the palace, but portions of it have collapsed with the passage of time. Every ten feet or so along the wall, there is an alcove and in most of the alcoves are stone statues of guardian warriors. The warriors also reflect the passage of time as some have broken completely or are missing parts.
Behind the wall is a collection of several buildings. The largest is the royal palace proper. There is also a tall obelisk and a small pyramid. There are several other smaller buildings, and one long one near the swampy lake.
The royal palace seems foreboding and covered by centuries of uncontrolled plant growth. Apart from the normal jungle sounds, all seems quiet.

Argent
Argent:
The Invoker easily keeps pace with everyone else thanks to her enchanted boots, which are currently only ankle high with a low heel. She's perspiring heavily in the tropical heat. Even after all these months in the tropics, she still hasn't quite adapted to the heat and humidity.
"This palace looks like it was grand in its day. I wonder who lived there? And more importantly, did they leave any goodies behind?"
Argent walks near the middle of the group as she tries to avoid hand to hand combat. Apart from Jylsera and the towering Fergus, the other three women are mostly unknowns to Argent. All three joined up within the last week.
Deedra is best known as Argent met her during the salvage operations. Hard to believe that she's really a mermaid and a talented bard to boot!
The other two were brought in by Jylsera from out of nowhere and Argent has yet to gauge the skill of them. Zabrina is fabulous looking and seems to be also be a bard. Calyra seems to have many talents, but remains something of a mystery. She appears older and seems to have known Jylsera for a very long time.
"So, are we going to explore the palace or just stand here sweating all day?"
Argent is an attractive woman in her mid-twenties who stands only 5'3" flatfooted. Her current style of dress reflects her tropical location. A long ribbon is used to tie her hair back to keep it out of her face. She wears a dark green blouse, but has it tied off so that her belly is exposed. Over this she wears a leather vest. She has on a pair of pants that have been cut short to expose more of her legs. Argent wears a backpack and carries her staff with her. A dagger rests in a sheath on her belt.
As usual, Argent has numerous pieces of jewelry on. She has her usual Earrings of Comprehend Languages, her Necklace of Adaptation, along with a non-magical necklace. Her magical bracers are clearly visible on her arms along with a bracelet. A broach is clipped to her vest and she wears several rings, of which two are magical. Lastly a golden anklet is worn on her left boot.

I am an Invoker of no small power.
Introducing the Enigma
Jylsera -
Jylsera's heart jumps a beat as they come into sight of the palace grounds.
Jylsera steps confidently as she leads her group through the broken walls of the palace and into the courtyard. Her magickal cutlass is in her hand and at the ready, but her bare feet do not falter as she steps quickly across the paved stone courtyard, the many anklets she wears making the occassional jangling sounds.
Jylsera moves over to examine the obelisk, Fergus following behind her every move. She then heads toward the pyramid and walks once around it. If nothing major is noticed, then she will lead the group to the palace proper first.
Jylsera has the look of a pirate about her. She wears a uniform that might be recognized as from the old Alphatian navy, but it is hardly regulation. Her white blouse is tied off just below her breasts and secured with a gold fob set with a large ruby and her sleeves are rolled up just above the elbow. A gold belly chain with filigree designs around it circles the curves of her fit waist. Her breeches have extra gold buttons at the flair below her knee and around one knee she wears a dark blue ribbon tied off. Despite walking through the jungles, the white breeches and pants are pristine in color and pressed as though just put on.
Disliking the confining feel of boots, Jylsera goes barefoot with many anklets and toe rings adorning her feet including a pair of wide golden ankle cuffs set with rubies and diamonds around them. These are magickal and of great use especially aboard ship. She has also generally avoided use of the admiral's hat and coat, except for certain functions and use. She doesn't often use them on adventures such as this.
Her sword hand is gloved, but one can still see a glistening golden bracelet emerging from the edge of the glove's cuff. Her other hand is free and she wears many golden bracelets and rings here.
Jylsera has long, curly dark brown hair and green eyes. The curls cascade down her back to her shoulder blades and she wears one small braid over her left eye. It ends with a fob, which like all of her jewels are gold. It is set with an emerald. Large hoop earrings help to set the pirate image. Looking closer one would also set a see of diamond studs which glisten in the light like fire.
Jylsera is just a slight bit taller than Argent, and her physique is amazing. She is lithe and slender with the hint of powerful muscles under the well-formed curves of her shape. She exudes confidence and self-esteem which make her seem much bigger than she actually is.
Around her neck with the blouse mostly open can be seen a Bloodstone necklace and an amulet. The Amulet bears an infinity symbol with a lightning bolt behind it. The symbols are raised and embossed in platinum.
Jylsera's make-up is flawless and only accentuates her marvelous features. Her tanned skin is impeccable and shows not a smudge of dirt or perspiration. Jylsera smiles back to the others confidently.
Her cutlass, which is dark blue metal and very magickal, is not her only weapon. At her hips are a pair of flintlock pistols in holsters. Just behind the one on her right hip is a jeweled scabbard with a long daggar in it. The pommel is a large pearl. Next to her backpack is a light crossbow slung over her shoulder.
Jylsera's heart jumps a beat as they come into sight of the palace grounds.
"It was an incredibly marvelous place in its day, Argent. This is the Royal Palace of Menkara. This place was the local seat of the ancient Nithian Empire and last belonged to Queen Rasara. I think there may be a few 'goodies' here and there. And some danger as well," she says forebodingly."This palace looks like it was grand in its day. I wonder who lived there? And more importantly, did they leave any goodies behind?"

Her magickal cutlass is in her hand and at the ready, but her bare feet do not falter as she steps quickly across the paved stone courtyard, the many anklets she wears making the occassional jangling sounds.
"Patience, Argent. There is no rush and we are in a special place no one worthy has set foot in many, many years. Besides, I love this weather." Jylsera doesn't have one bead of sweat on her forehead and appears quite comfortable in the balmy conditions."So, are we going to explore the palace or just stand here sweating all day?"

The Enigma's "Daughter"
Calyra
From the looks of it, Calyra is the oldest of the women in the group. (If they only knew just how old!) She appears to be in her late thirties, perhaps early forties but is remarkably fit. She has short black hair, which glistens and shines and black eyes that seem impossibly deep. Those looking at the attractive woman will note that her eyebrows are slightly upturned, giving her a somewhat unique and exotic appearance.
Her style of dress is similar to that of a Priestess of Mystra, for that is what she is and much more, with a bit of flair. She wears a sleeveless light blue blouse with golden embroidery all over it and dark blue breeches which extend just past her knees. White leather sandals adorn her feet that are accented with small blue stones. She wears many jewels, though not as much nor as bold as Jylsera. Most of her jewels are also gold and include earrings, a necklace, armband, circlet at her brow, bracelets, rings, anklets and toe rings. All have the same matching blue stones on them. Her holy symbol is visible at her neck. Her sole weapons appear to be a pair of sheathed short swords.
As the group walks along, she simply listens to the chatter of the others without adding her own comments. It is strange to walk in this old and forgotten place. In some ways it mirrors Calyra, as she is now called, herself. A stranger in a different world.
Reaching the Royal Palace, Calyra stops with the others and listens as they speak.
Speaking aloud, Calyra will add, "I am sure that we can overcome whatever perils lie within the palace. Other than suffering from the ravages of time, it seems mostly intact. I wonder if there is an enchantment in place to keep out the unwelcomed?"
Calyra will follow along and stay alert for any possible danger.

Cally will allow herself a slight smile at that thought.Jylsera wrote:"It was a marvelous place in its day, Argent. This is the Royal Palace of Menkara. Deedra
Deedra -
Deedra does her best to keep pace with the others. But it's so difficult! Her feet hurt and the heat is almost unbearable! Deedra finds herself drinking water at a fast rate in spite of the magic amulet that helps her stay on land.
In natural form, Deedra would have a bright kelly green tail, but that would not do her much good on land. Looking to return Jylsera's favor and wanting to explore the land above the sea, Deedra joined the charismatic woman. Before long she was given this amulet from Roma, a Captain in the Alphatian Navy. It was an experience she was getting!
Deedra was well-tanned and also rather exotic with her light seafoam green hair that cascaded down her back. Her eyes were the brightest blue like clear water on a sunny day. She didn't wear much clothing, not being used to much in normal form. She wore a bra made from shells and pearls for modesty and a bright green skirt, which was slit almost to her waist on both sides. Pearl jewlery accented her throat, ears, wrists and ankles.
"How do you manage to survive up here?", Deedra wonders aloud. "My feet and legs hurt from all this walking. And don't get me started on this heat. It's almost like swimming in the air. What a strange but marvelous world you have up here."
Upon reaching the palace, Deedra will sit down on a convenient stone and rub her poor feet.
Once the others are ready, Deedra will follow along as best she can. While she hasn't been with Jylsera long, Deedra has made a new friend in Zabrina. The young woman also has bardic training, although she's more of a theater person than a singer.

"I can't say that I've heard of the Nithian Empire before," Deedra says. "Were they important?"Jylsera wrote:"It was a marvelous place in its day, Argent. This is the Royal Palace of Menkara. Nithia
Jylsera -
"The Nithian Empire has not been heard from in thousands of years. They fell into decay and decadence and were destroyed by Isis herself. Menkara was last ruled by Queen Rasara, who was the daughter of Isis hereself, as legend has it. Unfortunately, in the demise of the Nithian Empire in general, Rasara was murdered by agents of a neighboring kingdom of the Empire. All of this was before Alphatian even existed on this world."
"Isis was overly distraught at the death of her daughter, despite her supposed immortality, and exacted a terrible wrath up on the Nithian people. The Kingdom that backed Rasara's murder was annihilated. Even the ground does not exist from where they once lived. The Nithian People were almost wiped from the face of the Earth. Most of the Nithian lands sunk into the sea and its people transformed into Mongrelmen, Yaun-Ti, and other creatures." Jylsera does not mention merfolk in her explanation, but it is likely that Deedra here is a decendent of those Nithians who were transformed.
"By the time she came to her senses it was too late. Nithia was gone and its people cursed. Isis lost almost all of her power in the process and was unable to undo what she had done. She's spent the last 2500 years weeping for her fallen daughter and for what she did to her children. Now it's up to us to right this terrible wrong. That is why we are here. The rebirth of Nithia. Not to mention keeping this place free from those stinking Thyatians."
"In a way, yes," Jylsera will send back. "But while I have memories of this place, I have never seen it with these eyes. It is all very odd. And please remember, call me aunt or just Jylsera. People won't understand the 'mother' reference."Being unable to contain herself, Calyra will telepathically touch Jyslera's mind. "It must almost be like coming home, mother." Cally will allow herself a slight smile at that thought.
"Most likely," Jylsera will add. "I was able to enter the Temple of Isis back near Safe Haven and no one else, except for Purr, Fapatri and Elspeth, were. This place is definitely guarded or protected in some way. We must be cautious."Speaking aloud, Calyra will add, "I am sure that we can overcome whatever perils lie within the palace. Other than suffering from the ravages of time, it seems mostly intact. I wonder if there is an enchantment in place to keep out the unwelcomed?"

Zabrina
Zabrina -
The last of person in this small band is also the youngest. Zabrina appears to be an extraordinarily beautiful sixteen year old girl with platinum blond hair and bright blue eyes. She's of average height with a flattering build. She is also much more conservatively dressed and a bit over-dressed at that. Zabrina wears a white top with long sleeves and ruffles at the neck and wide ruffly cuffs. Over that she wears a black vest with silver embroidery which laces in the front. Black pants with silver buttons down the side extend past her knees. Heavy leather sandals lace up her legs to the tops of her calves and these are also adorned with some silver accents. She wears a minimum of jewelry: earrings, a medallion which is hidden under her blouse and a single finger ring with a red ruby.
"Wow, this is just so amazing!", Zabrina will say as they walk through the ruined city. "I can't thank you enough for picking me, ma'am! I should get some wonderful stories from my time with you!"
Zabrina finds herself talking to the mermaid quite a bit. She has a very lovely singing voice and Zabrina finds herself a tad envious.
"I wish I could sing like that. But alas, my home is on the stage portraying characters in plays. I hope to be a leading actress once I return home from my adventures with Jylsera."
Zabrina listens intently as Jylsera speaks of the Royal Palace and the fall of the Nithian people.
"What an amazing story! It would make a most wonderful stage play! A series of plays even. Such a great tragedy most be retold so that others can avoid such an unpleasant fate."
As the group prepares to enter the palace, Zabrina will look around using her superior sense. "I think you're right, ma'am. No one has been here for a very long time. It smells of dust and decay, not living beings. I think we are alone here." Zabrina happily follows along and does what she is told.

At Jyslera's direction, the group steps into the Royal Palace. The closest building is the palace itself. A wide walkway leads up to it that is lined with small pillars. On either side of the walkway, what once had been large rectangular pools of water now lie empty. Most have long since dried up, but one still holds scummy water.
Moving to the right, the group takes a side walkway away from the main palace and begins to circle around it. They pass through what had once been the royal garden, but it has grown wild in the passing centuries.
Not too far beyond this they reach the obelisk that sits roughly in the center of the Royal Palace compound. It is a fifty foot wide square structure that rises over seventy feet into the air. The obelisk comes to a point at the top. There is no visible entrance to the obelisk at either ground level or anywhere along it. It seems to be a solid structure. Numerous hieroglyphics cover the obelisk, their meaning current lost on the adventurers.
Continuing onward, the pyramid is just a short walk from the obelisk. While it is not as high as that structure, it is wider and is eighty feet square at its base. At the front of the pyramid, steps lead up to the only visible entrance, which appears to be open wide.
A peculiar feeling comes over Jylsera as she approaches the pyramid. She quickly realizes that it is the Tomb of Rasara!
Now what?
Edited:
Forgot two important things here. One is that there is a feeling of power about the obelisk. Its almost palatable in the air.
Secondly, both the obelisk and the pyramid show no sign of aging. Its as if they were just built yesterday or have escaped the ravages of time that worn down other parts of the palace.

Argent
Argent:
Argent is a bit shocked to hear Jyl's explanation for how all this came to be. How and when did she come up with this knowledge? On the other hand, Argent isn’t too shocked. Strange things like this have been occurring almost ever since Argent joined up with Jylsera. The Invoker can't help but wonder is she's like the healer Elspeth-- one of the chose of the gods.
"That's a fantastic tale, Jyl, and it does seem to explain how all of this came to be. Even down to the Crying Goddess here in the Lost City. I suppose that she told you all of this when you were inside the Pyramid of Isis?"
"How are we supposed to play a role in the rebirth of Nithia? I mean, we've got our own problems with they Thyatians on the march, seeking to re-conqueror the Pearl Islands. It almost seems more than humanly possible."
Argent winces a bit, expecting something to happen when she steps into the palace compound. Instead, nothing happens. She looks about trying to learn what she can on the way to the obelisk. She casts her Fly spell in order to get a better look at what lies overhead in the obelisk and the pyramid.
The giant obelisk is of great interest to Argent. She studies it and the hieroglyphics on it closely. "I really need to learn this language. There's so much of it here in the city that it would really be usefully. How strange to use pictures in place of words instead of letters."
"I assume that the rest of you can feel the power of this obelisk. It's like magical energy itself is focused here for some unknown purpose. But how can it be used? And for what purpose? Obviously, there's more to this energy than just keeping the obelisk in mint condition."
After circling the pyramid, Argent lands by the others. "There's no entrance at the top of the pyramid. Apparently just this one here. Looks like once more into the breach."
"A palace of a queen, huh? Now you've got my full attention. Still, after thousands of years, it may already be all picked over. But let us hope for the best."Jylsera wrote:"It was an incredibly marvelous place in its day, Argent. This is the Royal Palace of Menkara. This place was the local seat of the ancient Nithian Empire and last belonged to Queen Rasara. I think there may be a few 'goodies' here and there. And some danger as well," she says forebodingly.
"I find it hard to believe that no one has been in here for a long time. Surely someone from Safe Haven has explored it? Perhaps even the snake men or their flunkies? Unless there is some sort of protective magic in place like back at the Pyramid of Isis. If that is the case, then it is most potent magic to be active after all this time."Jylsera wrote:"Patience, Argent. There is no rush and we are in a special place no one worthy has set foot in many, many years. Besides, I love this weather." Jylsera doesn't have one bead of sweat on her forehead and appears quite comfortable in the balmy conditions.
"I was just wondering the same thing, priestess. I guess we'll be finding out real soon."Speaking aloud, Calyra will add, "I am sure that we can overcome whatever perils lie within the palace. Other than suffering from the ravages of time, it seems mostly intact. I wonder if there is an enchantment in place to keep out the unwelcomed?"
"Most likely," Jylsera will add. "I was able to enter the Temple of Isis back near Safe Haven and no one else, except for Purr, Fapatri and Elspeth, were. This place is definitely guarded or protected in some way. We must be cautious."

I am an Invoker of no small power.
Calyra
Calyra:
"I for one do not consider it all that hard to believe, Argent. Great are the powers of the Lady of Mysteries. As I understand it, this Lost City is concealed on this island and cannot be noticed by the outside world. Is it so hard to believe that the palace is also protected? If Isis was as fond of Queen Rasara as the tales indicate, then having her seal the place off from outsiders is not hard to believe. Powerful magic has been at work here for a very long time."
The nearer the group comes to the obelisk, the more aware Calyra becomes of the power it holds. So strong is it that it can almost be felt in the air around them. Calyra circles the obelisk and commits the drawings to memory as best she can.
At the pyramid, Calyra will shoot Jylsera a concerned look when it becomes clear that this is Rasara's tomb. After all, how often does one get to visit their own grave?
"I'm sorry", Calyra quickly says. "It's habit to call you-- or rather who were used to be-- that. I imagine that this is most unusual for both of us.""In a way, yes," Jylsera will send back. "But while I have memories of this place, I have never seen it with these eyes. It is all very odd. And please remember, call me aunt or just Jylsera. People won't understand the 'mother' reference."

"It could be the focal point of whatever magicks are at work here in the city. That could explain why it is overflowing with enchanted energy. As for how it can be harnessed and directed, I too am at a loss. My advice would be to leave it alone until we can better understand what we are dealing with."Argent wrote:"I assume that the rest of you can feel the power of this obelisk. Great are the wonders of the Lady of Mysteries
Jylsera -
"Who knows, we may fail miserably, but the success we have already seen has been uplifting and with Isis behind us, I would rather side with us than with those Thyatian dogs."

"That is my initial guess as well. The pyramids are centers of power in the Nithian culture. I think the Palace may be a fine place to explore, but the pyramid and the obelisk likely hold the information that we seek."
At the pyramid, Calyra will shoot Jylsera a concerned look when it becomes clear that this is Rasara's tomb. After all, how often does one get to visit their own grave?
Jylsera smiles back reassuringly. If the fact that this is Rasara's tomb bothers her, she does not show it. "Before entering the pyramid, I want to take a closer look at this obelisk."
Jylsera leads the others back and stands before the huge stone structure. Standing before the obelisk, Jylsera raises her hands into the air and seems to drink in the power that radiates from the structure. She stands there for a moment, almost frozen in time. After long moments pass, she will lower her arms and cast some spells.
First she will cast Serten's Spell Immunity on herself, just to be safe. That way only spells she wants to be affected by should affect her or those from a diety. Following that she will cast True Seeing on herself. This will give her the opportunity to see things as they truly are should something be hidden from the obvious.
She reads the writing on the obelisk. "It gives tribute to Isis, first of all. It also goes into details on when it was built, but not why. Apparently this was built centuries before Rasara's time. So the palace was built on the grounds of the obelisk and not vice-versa. The obelisk and pyramid could be linked and could not."
Jylsera will move over to the pyramid and see if there is any more writing there.
"There's no need to call me "ma'am", Zabrina," Jylsera will say with a smile. "After all, I am not that old, despire what some people might think. And hopefully we will have some interesting stories. If thinsg keep going like they have been, well you'll have no shortage of events to tell." Jylsera doesn't say this in a snobby, self-important way. She is simply out to change the world. "Things happen like that in a rebellion.""Wow, this is just so amazing!", Zabrina will say as they walk through the ruined city. "I can't thank you enough for picking me, ma'am! I should get some wonderful stories from my time with you!"
"So far it is a tale that has largely been untold. For now I would onsider it inappropriate to put into entertainment, at least until we can right the wrongs that have been done and restore Nithia to her former glory." She stops and thinks for a moment as she considers the ramifications of her statement. "That would certainly put some changes into the rebellion, now wouldn't it?", she says, somewhat rhetorically.Zabrina listens intently as Jylsera speaks of the Royal Palace and the fall of the Nithian people.
"What an amazing story! It would make a most wonderful stage play! A series of plays even. Such a great tragedy most be retold so that others can avoid such an unpleasant fate."
"It is unusual indeed. I am not those people, although others say that I am, or WAS. I am trying very hard to be my own person," Jylsera will mentally send back."I'm sorry", Calyra quickly says. "It's habit to call you-- or rather who were used to be-- that. I imagine that this is most unusual for both of us."
"That's not very likely," Jylsera will say simply. "I don't think many people have been able to get in here.""A palace of a queen, huh? Now you've got my full attention. Still, after thousands of years, it may already be all picked over. But let us hope for the best."
"I find it hard to believe that no one has been in here for a long time. Surely someone from Safe Haven has explored it? Perhaps even the snake men or their flunkies? Unless there is some sort of protective magic in place like back at the Pyramid of Isis. If that is the case, then it is most potent magic to be active after all this time."
"Indeed, Calyra is correct. Someone would have to find this island or already be here and then be able to defeat whatever magickal defenses there happen to be. We'll find out soon enough I suppose."I for one do not consider it all that hard to believe, Argent.
Jylsera doesn't really react to the surprised look on Argent's face. She's getting used to surprises and surprising people more and more lately. "It is am amazing tale, I agree, Argent. And yes, most of that information came either from Isis or Mystra, or their agents. The story continues to develop and grow as we learn more. I am sure we shall learn much that has been hidden here at Rasara's Palace."Argent is a bit shocked to hear Jyl's explanation for how all this came to be. How and when did she come up with this knowledge? On the other hand, Argent isn’t too shocked. Strange things like this have been occurring almost ever since Argent joined up with Jylsera. "I happen to love a challenge, my friend," Jylsera will say with a laugh. "I started with one small ship, the Lysea and now we have six manned and another 8 ready to go and 9 more ships being fitted for war. We have multiple bases and we have taken one from the Thyatians and held it against a counter-assault. The rebirth of Nithia is something that will only help our efforts, not hinder them. And we have many groups at work and many good people sided with us. More and more join us with each success. Soon we will be a power in our own right. Everyone has a threshold that they find impossible to pass. I have yet to find mine," She says with a chuckle and an easy smile."How are we supposed to play a role in the rebirth of Nithia? I mean, we've got our own problems with the Thyatians on the march, seeking to re-conqueror the Pearl Islands. It almost seems more than humanly possible."

"That is my initial guess as well. The pyramids are centers of power in the Nithian culture. I think the Palace may be a fine place to explore, but the pyramid and the obelisk likely hold the information that we seek."
Jylsera regards the structure some before answering. As the tomb of Queen Rasara, it is an unusual situation. Some have implied or outright stated that Jylsera had lived past lives before. Of that she was not sure. There was still much to learn about all this, but she was learning to take advantage of the situations that she found herself in.After circling the pyramid, Argent lands by the others. "There's no entrance at the top of the pyramid. Apparently just this one here. Looks like once more into the breach."

(Forgot that Jylsera was able to comprehend Nithian Hieroglyphics. My bad.)
The hieroglyphics on the obelisk commemorate when the structure was built and gives praise to all the Good Nithian Gods, but Isis in particular. The obelisk was erected while the city of Menkara was being built. The date of this event is given as 13,223 NC, but is meaningless without any frame of reference.
The writing on the pyramid is limited to the front entrance, along the top and sides of the opening. The sides list the members of the royal family entombed in the pyramid while along the top are the blessings given to various gods to protect those enshrined here. Again Isis is the dominant deity, but space is given to Nephthys, Osiris, and Horus-Re.
True Sight doesn't reveal anything not already visible to the naked eye. Going to go in?

Jylsera -
Seeing that the obelisk gives no real meaning to its function, Jylsera moves over to the pyramid.
"The obelisk may have been built as a simple memorial and then magically powered later, as well. There's nothing to indicate that it was magickal upon construction or not."
Seeing that the pyramid has some writing, Jylsera examines this as well, but doesn't find much information beyond the inhabitants and such. "Only one way to find out if something special is going on around here."
Jylsera climbs the steps to the entrance, looks inside and enters.

Backtracking a bit:
With the casting of True Sight, the true forms of Jylsera's companions become superimposed over their physical form. In the case of Deedra her mermaid's tail appears translucent over her legs.
The change in Calyra is a bit more dramatic as the form overlay is quite different than her current appearance. Her hair becomes long and blond in color. She's actually much younger than she appears, perhaps in her early twenties. Her upsloping eyebrows take on a more sinister appearance and a pair of bat-like wings emerge from her back. Jylsera pays no heed to this as she was already aware of Calyra's true nature.
The change in Zabrina is extremely dramatic as a dragon measuring over 40' long from snout to tip of tail is superimposed over the petite girl. Her scales are blue-gray in color with silver highlights to them. Again, Jyl is aware of Zabrina's true nature, but the sheer size of the girl does give her pause.
Argent is exactly as she really appears.
Onward:
Jylsera looks into the opening in the pyramid and sees that it travels straight back into darkness. It appears to be clear and there is nothing concealed.
As she steps into the passageway, Jyl feels as if she passes through some unseen energy field. It is only as resilient as a bubble and easily penetrated. Once inside, the outside noises of the jungle vanish. The temperature inside is noticeably colder, but is not uncomfortable. Looking back, Jyl can see that none of the others are being allowed to enter the pyramid. This is pretty much the same thing that happened back at the Isis Pyramid.
Continuing onward, Jylsera reaches the end of the passageway and it turns. Just past the turn she spots a large woman blocking the passage. It is a seven foot tall, graceful, dignified, dark-haired and darkly-tanned woman dressed in royal Nithian garb. Her green eyes sparkle with highlights of gold, and gold ornaments and wire are woven through her hair. The woman projects an unmistakable aura of trustworthiness. Her resemblance to Isis is uncanny, but yet is not that ancient goddess.
"Welcome, niece", the tall woman says.

In the pyramid
Jylsera -
The True Sight spell catches Jylsera off-guard for a second as she forgot that it would also show the true forms of her companions. Jylsera was not used to how big the young dragon, Zabrina, really was as she towered over the others. By now, Jylsera was getting used to strange happenings: her old shipmate Carnelia not dying, but instead being revealed as an ancient silver dragon; the situation with Calyra and Alphaks; the revelations of Isis; the planned rebirth of Nithia; have the mage skill of a master of Mystra; the hidden base deep in an asteroid. Seeing a mermaid, a silver dragon and a good alu-demoness in one group was no longer a fact that would come as a surprise to her.
Stepping into the pyramid, Jylsera encounters the same strange feeling she did when entering the other Pyramid. The temperature is noticeably colder, but Jylsera hardly pays it more than a passing note, as it is not uncomfortable and she would not have likely noticed unless very drastic.
Confidently, Jylsera steps down the corridor and turns at the end of the passage. She comes to a stop as she sees the tall woman standing there. Jylsera looks at her closely and sees that despite the similarities, she is not Isis herself.

With a touch from Nephthys, she and Jylsera vanish from the passageway.
The pair reappear in a vast and meticulously clean library. Row after row of bookcases can be seen, each climbing higher than the eye can see. Elegantly carved platinum tile line the floor.
"Come", Nephthys says and begins to walk forward through the vast library.
After several minutes of walking, you can spy several other women up ahead in the library discussing something. All are inhumanly beautiful and one is readily identifiable.
Isis is there and now you can see that while she does resemble her sister Nephthys, she is just a bit more attractive. Isis is also seven feet tall, beautiful, regal, dark-haired and darkly-tanned skinned woman. Her green eyes dance with mystical highlights and her voice is soothing to all who hear it.
Isis wears an incredibly ornate headdress and rich Nithian style clothing. She is wearing a diaphanous white pleated linen dress and fine sandals while wearing numerous rings, bracelets, anklets, armlets, and earrings.
The taller of the other two women, a mere six feet in height, has alabaster white skin with long, impossible dark hair. Her build is quite slender and she wears a long black silk robe, belted at the waist with flared sleeves. She wears only a few pieces of jewelry.
The last is also the most normal in size. It is a woman with dark, flowing hair and radiant skin. She also wears a dark silk robe, similar to the woman with the alabaster skin. She wears an elegant jeweled bodice clasp that reminds the viewer of a spider's web.
Upon seeing you, the three cease their conversation. The smallest of the women steps forward with a pleased look upon her face.
"Welcome home, child", she says reaching out to you. Realizing that you're not quite sure who she is, she'll add, "I am Mystra, your mother."
"I am Nephthys", the tall woman announces. "Custodian of wealth and commerce. Protector of the dead and guardian of children. I am also sister to Isis. I protect the tomb of her daughter out of respect for my sister. None but those permitted shall ever set foot within her. Come, you are expected."Seeing that the woman appears Nithian and so close to Isis in appearance, Jylsera is not concerned, but still a bit wary. "You seem to have me at a disadvantage. You know me, but we have not met. And you are?"

Jylsera -
A moment later, ephthys touches Jylsera and they appear elsewhere. Jylsera sees the books rising into the air, row after row after row. Her eyes follow and then she finds that the rows continue farther than her sight.
"Wow," she manages to say after a moment. "Very impressive."
A moment later, she will ask, "Pardon my confusion, but I was under the impression that Isis was an incarnation of Mystra, but if you're Mystra, then how can you both be here at the same time? Are you really incarnations of who you appear to be or physical avatars or something else completely?"
"Please to meet you, Nephthys," Jylsera says easily, but respectfully. She notes the title of Custodian of Wealth and Commerce with a smile. " was not aware that Isis had a sister, but I am afraid that my knowledge of the Nithian pantheon is still rather sketchy. No affront intended by not recognizing you.""I am Nephthys", the tall woman announces. "Custodian of wealth and commerce. Protector of the dead and guardian of children. I am also sister to Isis. After some moments of walking we are led to the three unusual women here. One she recognizes as Isis right away. The white skinned one she wonders about for a moment, but the question remains unspoken. Finally the third one approaches and speaks."Come", Nephthys says and begins to walk forward through the vast library.
This news takes Jylsera a bit by surprise, but she accepts her hug and returns it with one of her own. "Home? Where is this place?", she will ask."Welcome home, child", she says reaching out to you. Realizing that you're not quite sure who she is, she'll add, "I am Mystra, your mother."

"As for your question, as you suspect the answer is not simple. I am the physical embodiment of the force known as magic. The other two ladies here are avatars and manifestations of my and others power. Deities of my stature can operate multiple forms and avatars simultaneously as easily as I can speak with you."
Mystra gestures to the dark haired woman with alabaster skin. "This is here is Midnight, who is the Alphatian Goddess of Magic. Magic is the only sphere of influence controlled by Midnight, so she is an avatar of myself." Midnight will nod when Mystra points her out.
"Isis here is what you is considered to be a manifestation. It is true that she is the Nithian Goddess of Magic, but she also holds sway over other areas in their pantheon."
"The Nithians worshipped me as the Goddess of Weather, Rivers, Agriculture, Love and Marriage in addition to magic", Isis will add.
"All spheres which are not under my influence", Mystra will continue. "Therefore when Isis was created, I and those representing those other forces imbued portions of our own energy into her to grant her command over those spheres."
"Does that answer your question?"
"No offense taken, I can assure you", Nephthys replies. "The gods of Nithia are only shadows of their former selves these days. Unlike the more modern pantheons, we are all related by bloodline. It is how our followers perceived us.""Please to meet you, Nephthys," Jylsera says easily, but respectfully. She notes the title of Custodian of Wealth and Commerce with a smile. "This is my domain on Eronia, one of the layers of the outer plane called Elysium", Mystra simply responds. "This is my citadel which is called Dweomerheart."This news takes Jylsera a bit by surprise, but she accepts her hug and returns it with one of her own. "Home? Where is this place?", she will ask.
"Do not be concerned about being confused, my child", Mystra will soothingly say. "You've been through much and lost much of your memory. What occurred to you was unexpected to say the least."A moment later, she will ask, "Pardon my confusion, but I was under the impression that Isis was an incarnation of Mystra, but if you're Mystra, then how can you both be here at the same time? Argent
Argent:
Argent goes with the others as they attempt to enter the pyramid after Jyl, and not too surprisingly are barred from going in.
"I hate it when this happens! Why does she get to do all the good stuff? Well, no sense just waiting for her to come back. I'm going to look around before my Fly spell gives out. I'll be back."
With that, Argent flies off to explore the rest of the grounds before entering the Royal Palace.
Jyl's light mood does help take some of the surprise away from Argent's face. "Yes, things have really changed even in the short time that I've been here. You originally hired me to be your chief magist, but now you're clearly a superior spell caster compared to myself. A lot of things have been happening with next to no explanation. I'm beginning to feel that I'm being left in the dark over important matters. New recruits are turning up out of nowhere and many are more powerful than I. If you no longer require my services than just say so. I can only figure that why I'm being not told what is going on is that you don't trust me. If that is the case, then perhaps I should take my leave of you."Jylsera doesn't really react to the surprised look on Argent's face. She's getting used to surprises and surprising people more and more lately. "It is am amazing tale, I agree, Argent. And yes, most of that information came either from Isis or Mystra, or their agents. The story continues to develop and grow as we learn more. I am sure we shall learn much that has been hidden here at Rasara's Palace."
I have yet to find mine," She says with a chuckle and an easy smile.

I am an Invoker of no small power.
Deedra
Deedra:
Deedra listens to Jylsera's fantastic tale about the fall of the Nithians with wide eyes. She never knew that so much happened above the waves before.
Deedra follows along as best she can given that she is not used to such physical activities such as walking. The palace grounds are fascinating as are the obelisk and the pyramid. She finds the strange pictures on the structures very interesting.
"I've only seen such pictures in underwater ruins before. Perhaps my people settled near one of these sunken Nithian cities and never even knew it?"
Deedra is surprised when she can't go into the pyramid. "This is very strange."
Argent decides to go explore, but Deedra will just stay here and rest her weary feet.

"Yes, Zabrina it is. Worthy of an entire opera!"Zabrina wrote:"What an amazing story! It would make a most wonderful stage play! A series of plays even. Such a great tragedy most be retold so that others can avoid such an unpleasant fate."

Zabrina
Zabrina:
Zabrina will observe the obelisk and pyramid with an interested eye. They are not the most incredible things she has ever seen, but they are interesting.
The young woman is disappointed that she can't follow into the pyramid. Surely something very interesting is going to transpire inside there! Alas, it is not to be. Instead Zabrina will go off to explore on foot while the others wait. Perhaps she'll find something interesting.
"I was raised to be polite to my elders", Zabrina explains. "It would be rude to not treat you with respect after all the wonderful tales Grandmother Carnelia told about you. It is an honor and a privilege to be here!""There's no need to call me "ma'am", Zabrina," Jylsera will say with a smile. "After all, I am not that old, despite what some people might think. And hopefully we will have some interesting stories. If things keep going like they have been, well you'll have no shortage of events to tell." Jylsera doesn't say this in a snobby, self-important way. She is simply out to change the world. "Things happen like that in a rebellion."
"Often theatrical presentations are not happy tales, ma'am. The tale of the fall of Nithia would be a morality play rife with drama. It would feature very interesting roles to portray. Any actor would jump at the chance to participate in such a thing.""So far it is a tale that has largely been untold. For now I would consider it inappropriate to put into entertainment, at least until we can right the wrongs that have been done and restore Nithia to her former glory." She stops and thinks for a moment as she considers the ramifications of her statement. "That would certainly put some changes into the rebellion, now wouldn't it?", she says, somewhat rhetorically

Calyra
Calyra:
Calyra is disappointed, but not surprised when she is prevented from entering the pyramid. Perhaps something important is going to happen inside there and it is for Jylsera's ears only.
While Argent and Zabrina go off to explore, Cally is content to sit and wait with Deedra.
"That is something that I can understand", Calyra will mentally say. "I hope that you succeed.""It is unusual indeed. I am not those people, although others say that I am, or WAS. I am trying very hard to be my own person," Jylsera will mentally send back.

Great are the wonders of the Lady of Mysteries
Jylsera -
Mystra explains some of the workings and make-up of herself, Midnight and Isis. It may not be simple, but it is somewhat clear.
"Forgive my insolence, but then are these avatars and manifestations permanent or not. Is it possible for one of the dieties to remove power from a manifestation such as Isis if they wished? I am sorry if I offend, but I am trying to come to grips with all this information."
After these questions are resolved, Jylsera will ask:
"Nephthys said that I was expected. Why am I here?"
Jylsera smiles easily. "Perhaps that will change if we can bring Nithia back from her destruction." Jylsera pauses for a moment and considers her next statement. "So in a way you are at least as dependent on your followers as they are on you? Interesting." The question is a rhetorical one, and she is not looking for an answer."No offense taken, I can assure you", Nephthys replies. "The gods of Nithia are only shadows of their former selves these days. Unlike the more modern pantheons, we are all related by bloodline. It is how our followers perceived us."
"I see," Jylsera musters. She looks around again, marveling at the grandeur of the place. "It is very beautiful.""This is my domain on Eronia, one of the layers of the outer plane called Elysium", Mystra simply responds. "This is my citadel which is called Dweomerheart."
"It is difficult for me to consider myself as Nylsara or as Rasara. I am not those people. I have no recollection of those memories. I did not live those lives. I am Jylsera and that is all I know. And yet people 'know' me by these other identities, by these other actions, by these other events. I do not know what to make of it and I have doubts of their truth." Jylsera will stop for a moment as she catches herself from a rush of emotions. "I would love to know the truth behind all these claims and stories."A moment later, she will ask, "Pardon my confusion, but I was under the impression that Isis was an incarnation of Mystra, but if you're Mystra, then how can you both be here at the same time? JYLSERA -
"You are my chief magist until you decide you do not want to be. Power is not everything. I have recruited people who can help us succeed in the war against Thyatis. They are varied in their skills and their powers. There are some things I can trust all of our people with, some things I can only trust my closest companions, and a few things that I cannot trust anyone with.... yet. There are many questions that I have as well. But not having answers does not mean there is a lack of trust." Jylsera pauses for a moment. "If it would put your mind further at ease, then we can have a private conversation. I cannot promise I will be able to answer all your questions, but I will try."
Jylsera listens to Argent's complaints without speaking. After she has finished, Jylsera sighs for a moment. "There is a lot happening right now and I must admit that changes are the course of the day. Things that have happened with no ecplanation, as you say, are not simple cut and dry answers. And there is much I do not yet understand."Jyl's light mood does help take some of the surprise away from Argent's face. "Yes, things have really changed even in the short time that I've been here. Jylsera thinks for a moment and wonders if she should give the young woman the full information. "Deedra, I can just about assure you that your people did settle near one of these sunken Nithian cities," she finally says. "Actually it is very likely that your people are in fact decedents of the Nithians. When Isis destroyed the civilization, most of it sank into the sea. Many were transformed intro merfolk, like yourself. These words come from Isis herself." Jylsera will wait to see the reaction from her companion.Deedra - "I've only seen such pictures in underwater ruins before. Perhaps my people settled near one of these sunken Nithian cities and never even knew it?"
"Thank you for the kind words, Zabrina, but as I mentioned before, I may be the decendent of Nylsara, but I am not her. And calling me ma'am makes me feel old. Please, just call me Jylsera. There is nothing impolite about it." After a pause, she adds with a laugh, "Or you can just call me Admiral.""I was raised to be polite to my elders", Zabrina explains. "It would be rude to not treat you with respect after all the wonderful tales Grandmother Carnelia told about you. It is an honor and a privilege to be here!"
"Yes, I suppose so. I was just thinking that it would be a much better presentation if performed after Nithia rises again. Afterall that is our goal and you would have the honor of having yourself be played in this epic tale.""Often theatrical presentations are not happy tales, ma'am. Jyl and Nephthys:
Jyl and Mystra:
"The situation between yourself, Nylsara, Rasara, and the others, is not all that different from myself and Isis and Midnight. Parts of me are in both Isis and Midnight, but neither one is truly me. I have no memory of their actions and deeds nor do I have any influence on them beyond my words. The same is true for all my avatars. They all come from the same source, but are unique and individual beings in their own right."
"No, you are not Nylsara nor were you Rasara, but all three of you came from the same source, so there are similarities. You have some of each others' traits."
"Unlike me, you can only have one form at a time on the Material Plane. So while I invested some of my essence to fashion Midnight, you would have actually become Midnight. So it was with Rasara. She was related to Isis and was considered to be her daughter. After Rasara's unfortunate demise, your essence came here to heal and regain strength. Once it was ready, you set forth again, this time as Nylsara who was associated with Midnight."
"But this is where things went wrong. When Alphaks threw you into that Pool of Chaotic Magic Nylsara died but your essence survived. It was unable to escape the pool and it took much, much longer to heal and regain strength. Finally you were able to break free, but at a great cost. You lost your memory and adapted the identity of Jylsera. The escape also helped create the Wildmagic Tempest that plagues Arret."
"However you still carried some of Nylsara's memories with you. Since all of you are from the same source, spells and wards still in action by either Nylsara or Rasara will consider you to be them. When you found that painting of Nylsara it triggered those few memories that remained from her. That set everything into motion and here you are today."
"Now, with your permission I shall help make things clearer for you. May I proceed?"
Jyl and Nephthys:
"We are gone, but not forgotten", Nephthys will add. "Most of us are still worshipped in Thotia, albeit under other names. I am known as Nesharia there. Isis is known as Isharia. The power of any god is measured by the strength and number of their followers. Isis was greatly weakened by the after-effects of her curse. So much so that she has not the energy to undo it by herself."Jylsera smiles easily. "Perhaps that will change if we can bring Nithia back from her destruction." "No, they are not permanent. You've seen firsthand just how diminished Isis is. With Alphatia on the decline, Midnight is not as powerful as she was once. Such is the ebb and flow of those who worship and give their souls over to us. Those others who gave power to Isis cannot take it back until such time as she no longer exists.""Forgive my insolence, but then are these avatars and manifestations permanent or not. JYLSERA -
With Nephythys:
"Yes, I can imagine. That would be quite the difficult situation to find yourself in."
With Mystra:
Mystra gives her explanation, but it is not as clear as Jylsera was hoping. She listens closely to the words, but finds herself to be missing something.
"Forgive, me Mystra, but I am just as confused as before. You say that I am not those past people: Nylsara, Rasara and hint about others, but at the same time you say that they and I come from some source that is the same. And there can be only one at a time."
"You say that we are not the same, but our essence is the same. To me that is a contradiction. I am what my essense is. You say I am these people but again say that I am not. I have gained the spellcrafty abilities that must have come from another, as I never studied spell before. I am just as confused as before."

Argent:
Argent will let the matter lie until the later private conversation.
Jylsera's words do put Argent's mind more at ease. "As I stated, I'm just not used to being out of the know. A private conversation would be most welcomed. I have no desire to depart as both my skill in magic and my collection of magic items has grown since my time here. I just didn't want to get lost in the chaos going on around us."Jylsera wrote:Jylsera listens to Argent's complaints without speaking. After she has finished, Jylsera sighs for a moment. "There is a lot happening right now and I must admit that changes are the course of the day. Things that have happened with no explanation, as you say, are not simple cut and dry answers. And there is much I do not yet understand."
Argent will let the matter lie until the later private conversation.
I am an Invoker of no small power.
Deedra
Deedra:
"There is one point that I do wonder about. Isis did curse the Nithian people and many were transformed into horrible things, like those mongrel people and the others. Being changed into a mermaid isn't really all that horrible a fate if you ask me. That point just doesn't fit the being cursed part."
Deedra is shocked by this revelation and not quite sure how to react to it. "I really don't know if this is true or not. Our history only exists as stories passed down from one generation to another. There is nothing in these stories to suggest that we were once land dwellers in the distant past. However, there is nothing to contradict it either. If this information truly does come from a goddess, then who am I to consider it a lie?"Jylsera thinks for a moment and wonders if she should give the young woman the full information. These words come from Isis herself." Jylsera will wait to see the reaction from her companion.

Zabrina
Zabrina:
"My apologies, Jylsera. I meant no offense. Age is not that much of an issue among my people. We respect our elders for their insight and wisdom. My society is much different than what you are probably used to. My family alone is larger than some towns! I call Carnelia my grandmother because it is simpler to address her as such. It is far too cumbersome to include all those 'greats' when you dealing with over forty generations of family.""Thank you for the kind words, Zabrina, but as I mentioned before, I may be the descendent of Nylsara, but I am not her. And calling me ma'am makes me feel old. Please, just call me Jylsera. There is nothing impolite about it." After a pause, she adds with a laugh, "Or you can just call me Admiral."
Zabrina will smile at that suggestion. "While that does have a great deal of appeal, Ma-- Jylsera, I really shouldn't have that big of a role in what does transpire. It is the nature of our people to help as needed with as little notice as possible. This is all part of my coming of age ritual where we go forth to live among others and learn their ways. This will very much be a learning experience.""Yes, I suppose so. I was just thinking that it would be a much better presentation if performed after Nithia rises again. After all that is our goal and you would have the honor of having yourself be played in this epic tale."

"As I understand it, all knowledge of Nithia was wiped from the face of the earth in the process. Assuming that the Merfolk are indeed transformed Nithians, then knowledge of who they were was also removed. That could be why your oral histories make no mention of it."Deedra wrote:"I really don't know if this is true or not. Our history only exists as stories passed down from one generation to another. "Having been born and raised a mermaid, such a thing is normal to you. How would you feel if you were suddenly transformed into a human and had no way to go back to being a mermaid? It sounds like your people simply adapted to their new condition better than the others did. It is also possible that since you people were further away from Menkara, that they were spared the worst effects of the curse."Deedra wrote:"There is one point that I do wonder about. Mystra:
"Oh, dear. That wasn't quite as simple as I hoped it would be." Mystra will consider for a moment before speaking again.
"Let me put it this way, Rasara, Nylsara, and yourself are all my children. You all come from the same source, that being myself. The relationship between each of you is akin to being sisters. You each were born and were raised under very different circumstances. Just because you each came from the same source, that doesn't mean that you are exactly the same. Each individual is shaped and molded by the world around them. Rasara grew up as royalty in ancient Nithia. Nylsara came from humble beginnings and went on to great things. Your own beginnings are as equally humbling, but you've accomplished much in your short life. All three of you evolved and grew from your beginnings into unique beings."
"As for your magical talents, I am the physical manifestation of magic. Is it that difficult to accept that my offspring would be strong in the wielding of magical energies? It is something that comes naturally to each of you."
Mystra lightly touches your forehead and those few memories are gone. Only memories of Jylsera remain.
"Given the situation that you are currently in, it would be helpful if you could consult your sisters for their insight and advice. Therefore, I think you should meet them."
Mystra flicks her wrist and a pair of apparitions appears beside you. The first is a woman dressed as Nithian Royalty with numerous pieces of jewelry. Her dark hair is braided and her makeup is flattering. She carries a crook and flail in her hands.
The other woman is dressed in an old Alphatian navy uniform that consists of a dark blue overcoat, white trousers and black boots with low heels.
"Jylsera, these are your sisters: Rasara and Nylsara."
Mystra:
"Forgive, me Mystra, but I am just as confused as before. You say that I am not those past people: Nylsara, Rasara and hint about others, but at the same time you say that they and I come from some source that is the same. And there can be only one at a time."
"You say that we are not the same, but our essence is the same. To me that is a contradiction. I am what my essence is. You say I am these people but again say that I am not. I have gained the spellcrafty abilities that must have come from another, as I never studied spell before. I am just as confused as before."
"Oh, dear. That wasn't quite as simple as I hoped it would be." Mystra will consider for a moment before speaking again.

"As I explained earlier, it was Nylsara's immersion into the Pool of Chaos Magic that radically changed things. It made it possible for memories of Nylsara to be part of you. In the past each of my children were unaware of their other siblings. Since they all lived at different times there was no need for that knowledge to be passed on. What I am going to do is remove Nylsara's memories from you so that they will plague you no more."Jylsera frowns slightly. This was still a concern of hers and Mystra's words made the situation no clearer. "It can't seem to hurt. Go ahead."
Mystra lightly touches your forehead and those few memories are gone. Only memories of Jylsera remain.

Jylsera -
With Mystra:
"I am pleased that you have profited from our working together. You are valuable to our cause. As for the chaos around us, I am just starting to get used to it and I fear it will only get more crazy and more confusing as the war progresses."Jylsera's words do put Argent's mind more at ease. "As I stated, I'm just not used to being out of the know. A private conversation would be most welcomed. I have no desire to depart as both my skill in magic and my collection of magic items has grown since my time here. I just didn't want to get lost in the chaos going on around us."

"According to the seeress Fapatri, those who were evil became the most hideous and grotesque creatures, those who were good became mroe benign creatures and those who were more neutral became like the mongrelmen. Perhaps there is your answer."Calyra - "Having been born and raised a mermaid, such a thing is normal to you. How would you feel if you were suddenly transformed into a human and had no way to go back to being a mermaid? It sounds like your people simply adapted to their new condition better than the others did. "Understood. No offense taken. I just think we don't need to be so formal. I suppose it is a bit of a learning experience."Zabrina - "My apologies, Jylsera. I meant no offense. "Unless you plan on leaving us soon, I am sure you will have a prominant role in the actions that will be taken. There is much to accomplish and each person is very valuable. You may be modest, but I can assure you that we will accomplish great things together.""Yes, I suppose so. It is something that gives my companions pause.""As for your magical talents, I am the physical manifestation of magic. Is it that difficult to accept that my offspring would be strong in the wielding of magical energies? It is something that comes naturally to each of you."
"That is a bit of a relief," Jylsera will respond. (GM's Note: Here's what this means. Jyl is currently a 21st level Enchantress because that's what Nylsara was. What Mystra would do is reset Jyl's magic skill back to the beginning at 1st level, allowing her to naturally learn what she was given from Nylsara. By doing this, Jyl could change her class to any of the other mage classes, so she does not have to remain an Enchantress. Given her talents, Jyl would gain mage XP's at a greater than normal rate, so level advancement, at least at first, would be rather quick. Your call.)
"This is very strange," Rasara will agree. "Until recently I never knew about all off this. Regardless, I am pleased to meet my descendents. I hear that my beloved Menkara is only a shadow of it former self. I trust that you plan to change this, sister?"
"That uniform is not regulation", Nylsara will note. "Apparently much has changed in the Royal Navy since my day. Has the evil of the Emperor been vanquished yet? Is Jensara safe?"
"The ladies have only limited knowledge of what transpired since they departed Arret", Mystra adds. "It will take time for them to catch up. However I suspect that what they do know will be of the most interest to you."
"For the most part you always were your own person. You just had some extra knowledge and insight locked away in your memories that you could subconsciously tap into. "Nylsara's influence on you helped shape your talents to where they are today. Your skill in magic is more a reflection of her skills rather than yours. I can see that you may not be prepared for the level of magical talent she possessed. I will give you a choice. I can remove how Nylsara shaped your talents and allow you to progress naturally, or I can leave them as is. Jylsera -
Jylsera thinks about that statement for some time. The sheer power she possesses is phenomenal. However, the opportunity to reshape it into her own direction is interesting as well. As an Enchantress she is woefully light on offensive spells, but her defensive spells are nearly unmatched. And she can make magic items or utilize other people to replace what she cannot do. "Do I have to make this decision now? How long do I have?"
"Jensara is safe. She is outside now, although now she goes by the name Calyra. We thought it better to give her a new identity and a new look, considering all that has happened."
"There were moments when I was starting to wonder. Everyone seemed to have my past and my destiny played out for me. Now that all of this is clearer to me, I feel like I am more in control of the situation. At least as much as one can BE in control when presented with all this." Jylsera will laugh at that last bit. This was a lot more complicated that the farm life she grew up with not that long ago."For the most part you always were your own person. You just had some extra knowledge and insight locked away in your memories that you could subconsciously tap into. Your destiny, whatever it might be, is yours alone to forge. "I am working on it, Rasara. I have only recently learned of this situation and the destruction of Nithia. I am very interested in helping with the re-emergence of the Empire, but I am not sure how that will happen. I was hoping my arrival here would enlighten me greatly.""This is very strange," Rasara will agree. "Until recently I never knew about all off this. Regardless, I am pleased to meet my descendents. I hear that my beloved Menkara is only a shadow of it former self. I trust that you plan to change this, sister?"
Jylsera will compare herself to Nylsara. While using the same basic pieces of uniform, they give a very different look. "I am not a member of the Alphatian Navy. I am the Admiral of a rebel fleet seeking to stem the advance of the Thyatian Empire. Alphatia is not what it once was, although we have made some contacts with a Captain of the Alphatian Navy by the name of Roma.""That uniform is not regulation", Nylsara will note. "Apparently much has changed in the Royal Navy since my day. Has the evil of the Emperor been vanquished yet? Is Jensara safe?"

JYLSERA -
"At this point I have no idea what it will take to return Nithia or at least Menkara to their original condition however. Do you have any enlightenment for me or should I ask Isis and Mystra specifically?"
Continuing on with Nylsara:
"The insane Witch-King known as Alphaks introduced himself to me in a dream. Or rather over the top of many dreams, I should say. He threatened to kill Calyra if I did not try to free him. He claims to be imprisoned on the innermost world of this system and is in some crystal, but there was a vision of many more like him. I do not completely comprehend the meaning of this. Do you have any insight into this vision?"
"Calyra was rescued by our old friend Carnelia. She cast a Wish spell to bring Calyra's crystal to the asteroid base and she was easily freed there." Jylsera pauses for a moment. "It appears that Leeta is now the Empress of Thyatis and currently calls herself Gabriella Tortion. Her daughter, Demetria Tortion, is behind the current action against the Pearl Islands. Demetria is also an Alu-Demoness."
"Thyatis moves upon the Pearl Islands which have been under the sway of both Thyatis and Alphatia at times. With the decline of Alphatia, the Pearl Islands declared their independence. Thyatis nows moves on them. We are opposing them. I would be very interested to get your strategic thoughts on the situation."
"The Seeress Fapatri came to me with many visions from Thothia. One mentioned me with other adventurers. A black liquid dissolved at our feet and a great wrong was righted. I do not know if this was about Menkara, but she saw forgotten lands burst from the sea. That sounds to me like the rebirth of Menkara and Nithia. Later I was seated on a throne of pearl with some others including a drow. Her visions seem true and I do not doubt them as yet. I hope this forshows the rebirth that we both hope for.""This is very strange," Rasara will agree. "Until recently I never knew about all off this. Regardless, I am pleased to meet my descendents. "I do not know how to undo what was done, but I am sure that our mother does."
"Alphaks was once a wise and just ruler until he fell under the control of the Crown of Eternal Darkness, a vile artifact of the Dark One. It twisted his mind and became the downfall of the Empire. Jensara was captured by his forces before the final battle, to know that she was still held prisoner by him over a millennium later is more than I can bare to think about. You have my thanks and gratitude for rescuing her."
Nylsara will be shocked to learn that Carnelia is still about as well. She never knew that her friend was a silver dragon.
"I have no knowledge of a Thyatian Empire. Were they perhaps one of the Alphatian colonies who have risen up to take the Empire's rightful place?"
(GM Note: Alphaks is trapped in what remains of his palace following the destruction of the Alphatian Homeworld. He himself is not trapped inside crystal, rather it was how he kept his prisoners after he grew tired of tormenting them. This was the state that Jensara was found in. Two others are also being held captive this way, an unknown human male and female.)
"As I stated before, Leeta only seeks to cause chaos and dissention. Such is the history of most civilizations on Arret. Any culture that rises into a dominate position somehow is destroyed, usually from within. Demons and other fell creatures from the Lower Planes are all merely tools of the Dark One in his insane quest to obliterate all that exists. The only goal to this occupation is to cause death and destruction. Cause Empire to battle empire to the mutual destruction of both."
After another moment's thought, Nylsara will address Mystra. "Mother, would it be possible for me to see Jensara again? Or can I only communicate with Jylsera?"
"Such a thing is possible. Both you and Rasara will be able to manifest yourselves back on the Prime for short lengths of time at specific locations. Rasara will be able to be summoned to her throne room in Menkara, while you'll be drawn to your asteroid hideaway. You will appear there when Jylsera calls for you and you will be able to speak with her and those with her for a short time before being drawn back to Dweomerheart. You both can only offer your advice and observations."
Turning back to Jylsera, Mystra will ask, "Do you require anything else before returning to Arret?"
"You have the duration of your stay here in Dweomerheart.""Do I have to make this decision now? How long do I have?"
"While I am saddened at the passing of Nithia, I am pleased that Thothia endures to this day. At least something from my time still survives. I do not know anything about a black liquid, but the Pearl Throne is my creation. It rests in my throne room and is my greatest accomplishment. While seated upon the throne, my eyes can bare witness to all parts of Menkara and direct my Army of Stone. I could become one with Menkara itself.""I am working on it, Rasara. Nylsara contemplates Jylsera's words. "I see... Then it appears that all my efforts were for naught. Even Alphaks survived the final battle. I couldn't save the Empire from the decadence eating it from within." Nylsara will seem greatly saddened by that.Jylsera will compare herself to Nylsara. "Yet another shock", Nylsara will say. "I had hoped that someone would have permanently destroyed her a long time ago. Leeta always sought out those in power so that she could manipulate them for her own perverse needs. Like all demons, she only seeks to cause chaos and anarchy. To erode the foundations of all things good and proper. She failed in Alphatia, but sounds like she succeeded with this Thyatian Empire.""It appears that Leeta is now the Empress of Thyatis and currently calls herself Gabriella Tortion. "Much has changed since the last time I was in the Pearl Islands. This Thyatian Empire did not exist and Alphatia paid little heed to Arret. I can only assume that after the war against Alphaks that Arret became the new Alphatian Homeworld.""Thyatis moves upon the Pearl Islands which have been under the sway of both Thyatis and Alphatia at times. With the decline of Alphatia, the Pearl Islands declared their independence. Thyatis now moves on them. We are opposing them. I would be very interested to get your strategic thoughts on the situation."
"I am pleased to know that she is safe, and yes it probably was a wise course of action to give her an new identity in this new age."Jensara is safe. She is outside now, although now she goes by the name Calyra. We thought it better to give her a new identity, considering all that has happened."
Try it and find out!
Jylsera -
She thinks again for a few moments. "Now I have to think about this decision on a larger scale. I have abilities and skills that will be very useful not only to the rebellion, but also to the rebirth of Nithia. There are wars to come. We will need equipment, magic items, defenses." Jylsera makes her final decision. "I choose to keep these abilities. They will be of great value."
"The Army of Stone is an interesting concept. What is it and how does it work?"
"Also I am curious about the Pyramid and the Obelisk. According to the writing on it, it predates that Palace and likely the Pyramid as well. What is it's function and what can you tell me about the reasons for placing the Palace and Pyramid here?"
"Who killed you and why? That is all shrouded in mystery. What was the situation in the Empire when it was destroyed?"
"Calyra seems none the worse for her ordeal. She is a valuable ally and of great help in our current endeavors."
"The original planet of Alphatia was destroyed when you went into the Chaos Vortex. They settled mostly here on Arret, but as the Empire crumbled, their colonies gained independence and rose up. The Thyatians are the largest and most powerful of those offshoots."
"Who is this Dark One you speak about? And more importantly, how do we stop him?"
"I have many questions, it seems. Is it possible to contact you again in the future if I learn of more questions or become ready for them?"
Jylsera considers again for a few long moments. "It is very intrigung to start from scratch with the abilities that have been presented to me. I would certainly not choose to forgo Invocation spells to be an Enchantress given the initial choice. Now however, while I have no claim to master the abilities I possess, I am loathe to give them up. Were I an adventurer or one looking for personal gain and methods, there is no question that I would begin again.""Do I have to make this decision now? How long do I have?"
"You have the duration of your stay here in Dweomerheart."
"One day soon there will be more than Thothia and an empty palace grounds that remain from Nithia. Menkara will rise again.""While I am saddened at the passing of Nithia, I am pleased that Thothia endures to this day. At least something from my time still survives. I do not know anything about a black liquid, but the Pearl Throne is my creation. It rests in my throne room and is my greatest accomplishment. While seated upon the throne, my eyes can bare witness to all parts of Menkara and direct my Army of Stone. I could become one with Menkara itself."
"I do not know how to undo what was done, but I am sure that our mother does."
"I do not think your efforts were for naught. The Chaos Vortex of Alphaks was destroyed. Alphaks was stopped and while still a threat, would have destroyed this entire planet and likely more had you not stopped him. Alphatia still exists and has the chance to reclaim its greatness or to be replaced by something better and more noble."Nylsara contemplates Jylsera's words. "I see... Then it appears that all my efforts were for naught. Even Alphaks survived the final battle. I couldn't save the Empire from the decadence eating it from within." Nylsara will seem greatly saddened by that.
"The evil monster is now a lich and worse. He must be destroyed, but I have no idea how and that seems like something so far off considering all that is happening. For now, I am glad Alphaks is not a direct threat.""Alphaks was once a wise and just ruler until he fell under the control of the Crown of Eternal Darkness, a vile artifact of the Dark One. It twisted his mind and became the downfall of the Empire. Jensara was captured by his forces before the final battle, to know that she was still held prisoner by him over a millennium later is more than I can bare to think about. You have my thanks and gratitude for rescuing her."
"Calyra seems none the worse for her ordeal. She is a valuable ally and of great help in our current endeavors."
"Carnelia has provided for us a helper from her race, by the name of Zabrina. With assistance we will be successful. In some ways, your actions have laid much of the ground work for the good that we are now doing. One often succeeds by building on the groundwork of others. That the previous efforts did not accomplish their results directly does not lessen the importance of them."Nylsara will be shocked to learn that Carnelia is still about as well. She never knew that her friend was a silver dragon.
"I have no knowledge of a Thyatian Empire. Were they perhaps one of the Alphatian colonies who have risen up to take the Empire's rightful place?"
"The original planet of Alphatia was destroyed when you went into the Chaos Vortex. They settled mostly here on Arret, but as the Empire crumbled, their colonies gained independence and rose up. The Thyatians are the largest and most powerful of those offshoots."
"Perhaps she looks to succeed with both. If Thyatis collects more power bases and increases their strength, then surely they will look to strike at Alphatia, especially in her weakened condition. The consequences of allowing her to build unchecked are catastrophic. We started oppossing them before we learned all the truths, and this information has only strengthened my resolve.""Yet another shock", Nylsara will say. "I had hoped that someone would have permanently destroyed her a long time ago. Leeta always sought out those in power so that she could manipulate them for her own perverse needs. Like all demons, she only seeks to cause chaos and anarchy. To erode the foundations of all things good and proper. She failed in Alphatia, but sounds like she succeeded with this Thyatian Empire."
"Who is this Dark One you speak about? And more importantly, how do we stop him?"
"I would like to know what I need to do to help restore Menkara and Nithia. I would like to know how to defeat Thyatis and Leeta. I would like to know about the workings of that obelisk and this pyramid. I would like to know how to make magic items and especially Spell Engines."Turning back to Jylsera, Mystra will ask, "Do you require anything else before returning to Arret?"
"I have many questions, it seems. Is it possible to contact you again in the future if I learn of more questions or become ready for them?"
