GM Note:
Just a quick note before getting into this. While prepping for this post some actions didn't seem to make sense that had been previously posted. The ranges of the various attacks and the speed of the mounts made a big difference on how this would all play out. For instance, both Argent and Sherwood could move faster on horseback than they could by using a Fly and Polyself spell, so they remained on horseback.
Likewise, given the range of Magic Missiles when compared to bows, it made more sense to go with the bows first and then use Magic Missiles for those characters with an option. Likewise, Dispel Magic has a shorter range than Magic Missile, so it became evident that it was necessary to use Magic Missile before making the attempts to Dispel. This was a big factor as those with greater ranged attacks could attack sooner as you rode to engage the enemy.
Just warning people ahead of time so there won't be any surprises. Now on with the show!

Page Two
The Guardians are nearing the Beleme Swamp, the source of evil in this part of the kingdom. The griffon riders have spotted a pack of basilisks, this time bearing riders barring their path. Changing into attack formation, the group rides forward! Jallarzi and Kharyna continue to fly overhead on their griffons.
At about 400 yards from the basilisks, both Laucian and Arocken stop to fire their bows. Each elf fires one shot and then rides onward to rejoin the group. (Basically doing a fire and half move maneuver.)
Arocken's arrow misses the mark, but Laucian embeds his shaft in the fifth basilisk from the left. (Just so we're all on the same page, I'm counting the basilisks from left to right. Number 1 is the leftmost one, while number 6 is the rightmost one.)
About 50 more yards along, both Gwenith and Grondar stop to fire once from their crossbows. Both connect with solid hits before riding onward. Grondar wounded the 4th basilisk and Gwenith the 3rd one.
At around 300 yards, those with shortbows fire their shafts. This includes Lara, Lilia, Sherra, and Kylie. All four of the women fail to strike a target.
At nearly 200 yards, the Lady Sallavarian launches a volley of Magic Missiles at the 4th basilisk, the one wounded earlier by Grondar. The five missiles connect and yet the basilisk remains standing.
A few moments after that, Sherwood casts his own Magic Missile spell. His five missiles strike the one Laucian wounded earlier, further wounding it. It also remains active.
Argent is next to cast a spell. Her Magic Missiles seem to sparkle more than normal. Her four missiles strike the basilisk on the right, number six. It is wounded.
Kharyna gets in on the act and pumps four Magic Missiles into the first basilisk on the left wounding it.
Chareos is next as he adds three more missiles to the basilisk Argent wounded. The Guardians are now about 100 yards away from the enemy and still well outside of the basilisk gaze range.
The men riding the basilisks go for their long bows and return fire. They target those mages who fired the most number of Magic Missiles. Four shafts completely miss Jallarzi.
Four more are sent towards Kharyna and one strikes her Spell Shield. The shaft rebounds and strikes the firer solidly in the chest!
Argent and Sherwood are also fired upon, but are missed by a wide margin.

Page Three
The Guardians continue onward and most of the spell casters enter into range to cast Dispel Magic. Kharyna targets the grouping on the left, covering the first two basilisks. Both riders fall from their mount, the first because his mount vanished from underneath him! Both men give the appearance of having been freed from the influence of the black water.
Jallarzi targets the middle of the formation with her Dispel Magic. Both basilisks vanish from the magic and both riders fall. One of the riders comes up holding his sword, ready to do battle. The other lies on the ground and seems disoriented.
Sherwood centers his spell on the remaining basilisk and riders. He achieves the same results as Kharyna. Both riders appear to be freed from the black water's influence while only one of the basilisks remains.
In response to the threat of two remaining basilisks, those with ranged weapons fire once more. Grondar scores another hit with his crossbow, as does Gwenith.
Lara misses with both of her missiles, while Lilia and Sherra both hit their target once each.
Laucian slays one of the two remaining basilisks with his longbow while Arocken misses with his arrows.
Kylie casts Magic Missile and her two missiles down the last basilisk.
By the time the riders reach the battle site, the conflict is over. All the basilisks are gone and only one of the riders seems hostile. He waves his sword about, threatening to attack any who goes near to him.

GM Notes:
Now that wasn't so bad, was it?
Continuing on with the theme I opened the post with, actions were modified by the range they had. For instance, the mage version of Dispel Magic has twice the range of the clerical version, 120 yards to only 60 yards. It became clear that the mages were going to be the ones to get the Dispels off first.
Likewise Hypnotism, the spell Lyonessa wished to use, only has a range of 5 yards. So by the time she was in range to use it, there's wasn't many left to Hypnotize.
Only one of the riders remains and he is being belligerent. Anyone who hasn't yet acted in the second round can still act. That would include Acerion, Argent, Swanny, Chareos, Corley, Ivy, Lyonessa, Talia, and Validar.
Now what?

Uno!!!!!
Chareos
Chareos rides after the other mages and watches as some of the others cast Magic Missiles. Choosing his target he goes through his own motions of casting his spell. Three beams of energy wiz toward his target. Yet the Basilisk still stands after Argent's and his combined efforts.
As the battle continues all but one of the riders is freed from his mental prison. Sword in hand he threatens anyone who comes near him. Watching this lone figure he cannot help but admire the man but only for a moment. "Perhaps we may free him with a dispel," he utters to the others.
He begins to cast a Dispel Magic at the remaining fighter in the hopes that he maybe cleansed of this unnatural evil that consumes him.

Laucian
As the Guardians move forward Laucian gauges the wind, stops and fires his bow. He watches for a moment as his arrow soars through the air and then he proceeds forward to join the others. He knocks another arrow to his bow and waits for an opening.
Once the mages are done with thier business only two Basilisks remain. Drawing his bow he aims at one of the remaining Basilisks. His aim is true as it strikes his target. The beast's life comes to an end as it drops to its knees then topples over.
Laucian's attention is soon drawn to the remaining foe as he brandishes his blade towards us threatening to kill any of those that get to close.
Knowing he has no spells that may have helped in this situation he knocks and arrow to his bow and takes a position to cover the fighters if need be. If the need does not arise he will make his way among those riders who have been "awakened" first seeing to the arrow wounded rider then the disoriented rider.

Assault on the Swamp
Grondar:
Approaching the basilisk riders in the swamp, the battle begins in earnest. Arrows and bolts fly at greatest distance, Grondar being one of those whose shaft hits the mark. The mages then pump volley after volley of magic missiles into the beasts; though all are wounded, none of the giant lizards have fallen. Bows are fired in return, with little effect, fortunately.
Dispel Magics from the mages banish several of the basilisks and free several of the riders, for which Grondar offers a quick prayer of thanks to Berronar. Another shot from his crossbow further injures a lizard, but doesn't put it down. However, it and the other beast are quickly put down by his companions.
One rider remains hostile, but is little threat to a group of their size. If the others cannot free him, Grondar has a Dispel Magic left which may be of use. If all else fails, they should be able to bind the man and render him impotent. Unconcerned, Grondar dismounts to see to any wounds that may have been sustained by the other riders, moving from man to man where they sit or lie on the ground. He will speak with each momentarily, or while binding any injuries, to learn their names and ensure that they are ready to move on.
"Not a problem, Sherwood," Grondar says. "It just requires a little rejiggering of my expectations." He taps the side of his head and grins. "I'm afraid these old wheels don't turn as fast as they used to."Sherwood wrote:"It may have come up earlier in private conversation, Grondar. My apologies for not being clearer. Since we expect to encounter the basilisks on the second day before reaching the swamp, fire magic will most likely be used to defeat them. It makes sense to rest once in the swamp so the spellcasters can retool their spells to what was discussed with Jallarzi."
After the spellcasters' meeting, Grondar stumbles upon their new companion, Gwenith. "Ahh, good to see you taking the time to relax and wear some normal clothes, Gwenith. I so often forget such luxuries, myself. I've worn this armor so long, I practically feel naked without it. Really should do something about that, I suppose."Gwenith wrote:Heading down to the common area her comrades can see she has forgone her armor and weapon. In their place a bright emerald dress of moderate manufacture excentuates her athletic features. Her reddish hair cascades down the left side of her neck where a simple pendant lays.

Assault on the Swamp
Kylie:
Riding the next day, Kylie notices Corley's quietness and the fact that he seems to be avoiding her. Apparently, has no wish to associate with her at all anymore. Not surprising, since he finds her so hideous...
Later in the swamp, the battle begins. Due to range considerations, Kylie finds that she cannot follow Sherwood's instructions entirely. She gets off an arrow near the end of the first volley, but misses, causing her to swear infrustration.
After the riders return fire with their bows, the Guardians continue their attack. Dispel Magics quickly remove several basilisks and most of the riders from the battle. Kylie manages to slay the last basilisk with a pair of Magic Missiles, which helps her feel less useless.
Soon, they have but one lone opponent. He stands his ground, waving his sword at them. Kylie suspects that if the warriors charged him on their mounts, he would turn and flee. Kylie covers him with her bow as Chareos volunteers to try to free him with a Dispel Magic. "If that doesn't work, I may be able to put him to Sleep," Kylie says.
"It isn't your fault, Argent," Kylie sniffs. "I assumed too much and expected too much, and left my feelings unguarded."Argent wrote:"I'm so sorry, Kylie. I almost wish I never brought the subject up earlier. Men don't think the way we girls do, Kylie. They're always looking for excitement and some monster to vanquish. They're not thinking about settling down and having families, at least at Corley's age, so that doesn't come as a surprise to me."
Argent stalks off before Kylie can respond, so she sits there and tries not to fall apart any moreso than she has already done.Argent wrote:"That cad!", Argent says in shock, anger showing on her own face. "I may have to just give him a peace of my mind! How rude!"
"I hadn't thought of it that way," Kylie admits. "Well, I have learned something today."Argent wrote:"It is to the benefit of everyone in the group to have as many tools at their disposal as possible. If I give you a spell that helps us succeed, then we all win. So in a certain sense, I am helping myself by giving to others."
"That is good to hear," Kylie replies. "As long as I didn't go too high, I'll probably be able to manage it. Despite the ring I wear, there is a certain level of fear that I cannot quite conquer."Argent wrote:"You've got more courage than me, in this instance. I stayed well away from the griffon stables. Fly is quite easy to use. Not any more complicated than walking actually and requires just as much concentration."
"I'll do that," Kylie says.Sherwood wrote:"That is correct, Kylie. As I stated earlier when asked, fire magic should be avoided while in the swamp. However it is prudent to carry it before reaching the swamp. You can make the change over after we're done with the basilisks and in the swamp."
"Yes, boss," Kylie replies with a smirk.Sherwood wrote:"Cast your Magic Missiles before switching over to your bow, Kylie. Target only the basilisks at this point. It may be prudent to concentrate fire on only one target with the other archers. Take it down before moving on to the next."
"Fight them?" Clearly, the idea comes as a surprise to Kylie. "I've been friends with Jallarzi's mounts for so long that I've never thought about the need to fight them. Of course, now that you mention it, there are griffons living in the wild as well..." A serious look crossed the young half-elf maiden's face.Chareos wrote:"Aye they are." he says with a smile," I am just grateful we have not had to face such a foe."

A quick victory...
VALIDAR -
Validar leads the Guardians forward as missile fire and magic strikes out at their enemies. A return volley from the soldiers is ineffective and doesn't slow thier charge one bit. Before the Guardians can arrive with steel, the opponents are all but taken care of completely.
Validar rides up before the man and regards him for a moment. "You are out-numbered and unable to defend yourself against all of us. Drop your weapon now and you will see tomorrow." Validar is about to motion to Ivy to try and Dispel the man's affliction, but Chareos volunteers to try first. Validar catches Ivy's eye and nods in her direction, in case Chareos fails. Some of those with bows move to cover the man as well.
Lord Validar then rides over to survey the rest of the fallen soldiers. Grondar has already moved over to check on them along with Laucian.
"As I had hoped," he says to the rest of the group, "we were able to take them without resorting to steel. As such they were probably not a match for our fighters either, but this way none of them were killed. Since we cannot assume they are evil of their own accord, better we can spare lives when possible and not a threat to us."
"Had our opponents been a group of seasoned adventurers, then the initial volley would have helped to soften them up before we struck in with front ranks. I doubt all our encounters along the way will be so easy, but we can continue to be pleased that we have experienced very few injuries and no casualties."
Validar will remain mounted as some of the others check on the fallen men. He keeps his eyes open for other possible attacks. "Arocken, Po, Lara, Corley, Gwenith, spread out and keep your eyes open for more trouble. Kharyna, if you could stay airborne for the moment as well, that would be appreciated. This group could be an advance guard for a larger force."

Conquer or Die!
Ivy
Ivy:
As we charge the basilisk, Ivy realizes that they are going to have to get very close for her to attempt her Dispel. Fortunately, it is not an issue as the mages have freed most of the men by the time we reach them.
Ivy wil laugh slightly as Acerion does, although his words do make her feel a bit unworthy of being with a nobleman. Still, it is a concern.Acerion will be quite astonished to hear Ivy's words, although the shock is accompanied by an increased pounding of his heart. Lost in her words for a moment, he finally replies, "No, my heart does not belong to another, although if I give my grandmother too much time she might give it away for me." Acerion will laugh even though he knows she is probably looking in Alexandria right now for a suitable wife for him.
"That is what I hear say", Ivy will agree. "It seems that Lady Fate has thrown us both a significant curve. I have pledged to remain with the Guardians, so I will be assisting in the liberation of your homeland, Lord Acerion. I sincerely hope we can make this dream come true.""I had originally not put much thought into pursuing affairs of the heart as my goal is the liberation of my people's home. That is, of course, when such things happen though, isn't it? When one isn't looking for them." Acerion will turn to face Ivy, his eyes focused on hers and he raises a hand to brush some hair from her face.
"That is very good to know, Lord Acerion. I must admit that I am made very nervous by this conversation. Our lives are so vastly different as is our backgrounds. I never really spent a lot of time of dreaming those things that normal girls do. About settling down and having families. I spent must of my time of dreaming of the day when I could crush any and all undead. Now other more pleasant things fill my thoughts.""I would not play games at your, or any woman's, expense. I have been raised that all women should be treated with dignity and respect, but with you there is a special place within my heart where you have taken up residence. Do not feel vulnerable sweet Ivy, for I will never allow harm to come to you as long as I breathe."
Ivy doesn't know what to make of that comment. It again suggests that there is something different about Lord Acerion, but what Ivy cannot be sure. She stands there, unsure what to say or do next.A playful smile comes across Acerion's face forcing him to give pause before he can continue, "And as far as the blush upon your skin, I do not mind it at all, especially when I am close. The heat of it warms me in ways you can not fathom."
As we charge the basilisk, Ivy realizes that they are going to have to get very close for her to attempt her Dispel. Fortunately, it is not an issue as the mages have freed most of the men by the time we reach them.
Once at the men, Ivy will drop from her horse and see if any of the freed men are injured. If Chareos fails in his attempt, Ivy will try her Dispel on him.Validar rides up before the man and regards him for a moment. "You are out-numbered and unable to defend yourself against all of us. Drop your weapon now and you will see tomorrow." Validar is about to motion to Ivy to try and Dispel the man's affliction, but Chareos volunteers to try first. For the glory of the Blue Lady!
Swanny
Swanny:
The battle is over before Swanny ever gets the chance to do anything. Oh well, the fight in the swamp should be more close quarters combat.
"Sure, Gwenith. Always nice to gets some serious sword practice in. Admittedly, I did have an unfair advantage over Acerion here. My shortsword is a Shortsword of Quickness, allowing me to strike with it at nearly blinding speed. But who ever said life was fair?"Gwenith wrote:When the pair are done sparing she will approach them. "Well fought comrades," She says with an easy grin. "Your skills with dual blades are very impressive. Perhaps later on in our travels either of you would wish to test my mettle and steel?" Her easy grin begins to turn into a playful smile.
"Somehow I had the feeling you were going to say that. Nothing ever comes quick or easy."Kharyna wrote:"It will be quite some time I am afraid. This construct takes lots of studying and ability. I won't be casting something like this for many years, if ever."
The battle is over before Swanny ever gets the chance to do anything. Oh well, the fight in the swamp should be more close quarters combat.

Argent
Argent:
"I'll do what I can to console her. Thank you for your time, Lord Validar. A pleasant evening to you."
After returning from her little talk with Lord Validar, Argent will try to comfort Kylie as best she can.
During the advancement, Argent fires off her Magic Missiles and wounds one of the basilisks. This is the first time she's seen these creatures, only having heard about them before. They are soon gone and the enemy all but defeated. Argent will watch what happens from horseback at a safe distance.
Turing towards Gwenith, Argent will say back on the subject of griffons, "And from a safe distance." The Invoker will smile as she speaks.Gwenith wrote:"Only if you do not deal with them first."
"But they can be far more interesting in my experience, Lord Validar. As my mother used to say, 'Romance is the spice of life'. Of course I've always had the proper outlook for any romantic entanglements that I've found myself in."Validar wrote:"Hello, Argent. Yes, it appears that we have a matter of the heart here and those are much more difficult to sort out than battles with dragons, demons or evil empires."
"I see", Argent will say. "I admit that I do not know Lord Corley all that well, but your words do seem to fit what I have witnessed thus far. It is clear to me now that Lord Corley did not act with malice in this instance as I initially thought he did. He is, as you suggested, consumed by other goals at the present time. It seems that much of this was a misunderstanding by both parts.""I think we can try to do too much and the situation will just get worse. Lord Corley is not certain of his feelings, and to my knowledge he has not had any serious relationships with women. Experienced? Yes, indeed. Lord Corley is a good man, but he seems to think rather simply and focuses on one thing at a time. Now he is trying to earn his father's respect by adventuring and battling and going on quests. He may have interest in the young lady, but I do not see anything serious developing right away. In the future, who can say."
"If someone wants something bad enough and is willing to do what is necessary to get it, then anything is possible, Lord Validar. Kylie has had a very rough upbringing, while I would guess that Lord Corley had a comfortable childhood with little want or need. As you say, they do not have all that much in common. Kylie's mother left her at young age and her father did what he could do to raise her. I really cannot relate to the type of background that she grew up in myself and we didn't speak of such painful things all that much. Kylie is young and it seems that she's learned a very hard lesson this day."Validar wrote:"The one thing that concerns me however is the young lady's upbringing and past. The poor of Elcadan have come to hate nobles in general. Can Kylie adjust her life to living in such a state? Perhaps. And it would be easier than asking Lord Corley to abdicate his title and family. Would General Logan and his wife accept a commoner as a wife for their son. Under the right conditions and a situation of true love, I think they would. I am concerned however about their disparate lifestyles. Ultimately, I think Kylie would have to undergo many changes. If she could do so and with some more maturity, well, anything is possible. What do you think?"
"I'll do what I can to console her. Thank you for your time, Lord Validar. A pleasant evening to you."
"Well, you know that if you come across any duplicates, you could always give them to me", Argent will slyly say.Kharyna wrote:"Some useful items, there, Argent. I am hoping we'll find much more as we continue to explore the dungeons on the Towers of Gaz site."
"It's quite stunning in the right setting. I'd estimate it to be worth about 1500 gold.""Yeah, that's a bit ostentatious. Not something to wear while adventuring," she says with a laugh. "But quite beautiful and I am sure very expensive."
"Oh my…", Argent will say in response to seeing the fine anklet. "It's worth a fortune! I'd estimate about five times that of my tiara! I'd Wizard Lock it on too!""My most expensive trinket I wear is this anklet," Kharyna will say indicating one which she wears on her right ankle. It is platinum and set with sapphires. "It's Wizard Locked so that it cannot be stolen. Not that it would be easy to get without my knowledge. Most of the items I have I wear or have sold off for art and such valuables."
"It can be tough to adventure and pursue romance at the same time. Especially for a busy mage. Somehow I've managed thus far.""That is true. Unfortunately, our paths take us in different directions or I would be interested in getting to know him better. Maybe when the Tower site is cleared I will have more time for romance."
"Oh, you know me. If I want something, I usually get it. And I really don't keep a list of ex-suitors, Kharyna. Although it would be 2 or 3 longer since the last time we met", Argent will add with a smile."Good luck," Kharyna responds. "And knowing you, good luck to Lord Validar as well," she adds with a playful smile. "Your list of ex-suitors has grown since we last spoke I am sure."
"May Tymora smile upon your quest, Kharyna. I will contact you should the need arise. And please, do not hesitate to contact me if you need aid. Or help in dispersing all those magic items and jewels you're likely to dig up!""That is true. Way too much competition. I wish you the best in your travels and if you ever need us, we'll probably be around the Towers of Gaz for a good long time."
"That is a very nasty combination", Argent will softly agree. "Sometimes life's lessons are learned the hard way.""It isn't your fault, Argent," Kylie sniffs. "I assumed too much and expected too much, and left my feelings unguarded."
After returning from her little talk with Lord Validar, Argent will try to comfort Kylie as best she can.
"Actually, I can give you a taste of what it's like later on tonight." That evening after we stop for the evening and when Jallarzi is helping Kylie with her spells, Argent will watch until they are finished. Once they are done, Argent will cast her Fly spell on Kylie to give her a taste of it. She'll supply the necessary instructions on how to properly use the spell."That is good to hear," Kylie replies. "As long as I didn't go too high, I'll probably be able to manage it. Despite the ring I wear, there is a certain level of fear that I cannot quite conquer."
During the advancement, Argent fires off her Magic Missiles and wounds one of the basilisks. This is the first time she's seen these creatures, only having heard about them before. They are soon gone and the enemy all but defeated. Argent will watch what happens from horseback at a safe distance.
I am an Invoker of no small power.
Corley
Corley:
Corley will turn in for the evening, but does not sleep peacefully.
The enemy is defeated before we can reach them thanks to magicks and ranged weaponry. Lord Corley will ride around the men and take a position to guard against any assaults coming from the swamp.
"Thank you for your advice, Lord Validar. I have much to consider."Validar wrote:"Well, I think you may be jumping the gun a bit when you speak of marriage, but usually such amorous interests do tend to eventually move in that direction. I can understand your confusion. Having something like this hit you from a completely unexpected direction is not easy. My advice is to treat Kylie the way you have with kindness and consideration and see if you develop any feelings for her. There is no rule that states you must be interested in everyone who is interested in you. On the other hand, you never know where love will spring up. Do not think you need to make a decision on this immediately."
Validar will put his hand on his friend's shoulder and try to perk up his spirits. "Better to be sought after by the women, than to be ignored by them, eh? Don't trouble yourself too much right now. And remember we have a battle to fight in a few days. That will always take away the anxiety of the mind."

Acerion
Acerion:
"That is what I hear say", Ivy will agree. "It seems that Lady Fate has thrown us both a significant curve. I have pledge to remain with the Guardians, so I will be assisting in the liberation of your homeland, Lord Acerion. I sincerely hope we can make this dream come true."
"I have no doubt that with you by my side, along with Validar and the others, we shall see the liberation of my people's lands," Acerion will say sincerely.
"That is very good to know, Lord Acerion. I must admit that I am made very nervous by this conversation. Our lives are so vastly different as is our backgrounds. I never really spent a lot of time of dreaming those things that normal girls do. About settling down and have families. I spent must of my time of dreaming of the day when I could crush any and all undead. Now other more pleasant things fill my thoughts."
"If it makes you so nervous then why did you bring it up Ivy? I believe it was you that turned our conversation in this direction, was it not?" Acerion will say with a relaxed grin on his face.
Ivy doesn't know what to make of that comment. It again suggests that there is something different about Lord Acerion, but what Ivy cannot be sure. She stands there, unsure what to say or do next.
It seems that Ivy either missed his meaning or is not prepared for what he feels in his heart is right. He will let the comment lie and stare into Ivy's eyes a moment longer. What he feels when she is close is undeniable and he does not wish it to ever leave.
The battle turns out to move swift and be over even more swiftly. Acerion is impressed at the way everyone worked together so efficiently although he would have preferred to have had his axe bite deep into at least one foe. He will take up position near Corley and keep watch in case any more foes decide to show themselves.

Moving right along..
KHARYNA -
"Well, you know that if you come across any duplicates, you could always give them to me", Argent will slyly say.
"That's a good idea. Although to be honest, what I am always really looking for are those unique items that have been fashioned, or at least very rare."
"It's quite stunning in the right setting. I'd estimate it to be worth about 1500 gold."
"That's a nice little trinket then," Kharyna will say with a smile. "The other great thing about jewelry is that as a collector we will never be broke!"
"Oh my…", Argent will say in response to seeing the fine anklet. "It's worth a fortune! I'd estimate about five times that of my tiara! I'd Wizard Lock it on too!"
"Yes, something like that. I had it appraised once at about 9000 actually. Can't let anyone get their greedy little fingers on it. And the Lock is done at a much higher level than mine. That's the beauty of having a magic-using pedigree I suppose."
"It can be tough to adventure and pursue romance at the same time. Especially for a busy mage. Somehow I've managed thus far."
"That is very true. Unless your goals are similar and you can stay together enough, there just doesn't seem to be enough time to have a serious romance. And I've never been the type to bother with a short fling."
"Oh, you know me. If I want something, I usually get it. And I really don't keep a list of ex-suitors, Kharyna. Although it would be 2 or 3 longer since the last time we met", Argent will add with a smile.
"You may not keep track of names, Kharyna will chuckle in response. "But I have no doubt that the numbers will continue to grow, knowing you. You always have been one to attract the guys."
"May Tymora smile upon your quest, Kharyna. I will contact you should the need arise. And please, do not hesitate to contact me if you need aid. Or help in dispersing all those magic items and jewels you're likely to dig up!"
"It seems that Mystra has already smiled on us, Argent. And that is good enough for me. We'll be in touch and I hope our paths will cross again, soon and often. Good travels to you as well."
At the battle, Kharyna closes in on the griffon and let's loose with a brace of Magic Missiles. They strike the end basilisk on her side but do not destroy it. After a few return missiles missing or bouncing off her Spell Shield, Kharyna gets closer and drops a Dispel Magic on her foes. There is immediate success and a moment later others repeat her spell. The enemy is beated before the can barely respond. One big advantage of numbers!
After the men are being checked on, Lord Validar calls for Kharyna to take to the air for further scouting. She is surprised for a moment, so accustomed to being the one in charge. But the idea is sound. In a moment, she is airborne again and circles the area overhead looking for any signs of further trouble and ready to fireball anything that shows itself.

Arocken & Po -
Arocken fires his bow on the approach a couple times, but fails to hit anything. When the battle ends quickly is disappointed in his efforts and the lack of combat. "Let's get moving quickly, there may be more enemies to come."
Po forms line with the others and rides hard on the charge, but doesn't get to attack since the battle ends before they make contact. When Lord Validar gives his instructions to guards, Arocken moves out and finds a point to scout from, nocking an arrow to his bow. Po moves to another direction and watches as he was told.

Kylie:
Returning to Argent and Jallarzi, Kylie asks, "Is there any way to tell when the spell is nearing its end? My ring makes it not a serious problem, but it seems like it could be for someone without similar resources."
Kylie will undergo another spell practice session the first night on the road, and hopes to find time the second night as well.
After some little while, it appears that most of the trauma has subsided. It appears that Kylie has settled into a bit of a funk combining sulkiness and grave disappointment.Argent wrote:"That is a very nasty combination", Argent will softly agree. "Sometimes life's lessons are learned the hard way."
After returning from her little talk with Lord Validar, Argent will try to comfort Kylie as best she can.
"That sounds great!" Kylie exclaims. When the time comes, she listens carefully to Argent's instruction in the art of flying by spell. Even so, she takes off slowly, and flies around somewhat timidly a few feet above the ground. Once a few minutes have passed, she begins to feel a little more confident and starts flying higher, though no higher than the wall of Cavius' castle. Fortunately, it seems quite stable, and Kylie feels as though she's standing on a small, invisible flying disk. Later, she gains enough confidence to try some quick turns, climbs and dives to test the maneuverability. Eventually, the spell expires, but her ring saves her from any real damage.Argent wrote:"Actually, I can give you a taste of what it's like later on tonight." Assault on the Swamp
Grondar:
As none of their opponents were seriously wounded, Grondar is able to join the discussion quickly. "I am truly thankful for our good fortune today. My prayers this night will express our appreciation for the peaceful manner in which this was resolved."Validar wrote:"As I had hoped," he says to the rest of the group, "we were able to take them without resorting to steel.
I doubt all our encounters along the way will be so easy, but we can continue to be pleased that we have experienced very few injuries and no casualties."
over so soon..?
Sherra:
Sherra smiles at Grondar's praise at how quickly she seems to be grasping his language. She thinks it's been forever since they began, but when she actually counts the days it really isn't that many.
"It helps to have such a skilled and devoted teacher," Sherra attempts in dwarvish to praise Grondar, although she hopes she didn't call him something else entirely because that last word didn't seem quite right!
Once the battle begins, Sherra has horrible accuracy with her bow, hitting a measly one in four. I see Tymora is in a playful mood today. Still it doesn't seem to much matter, for only one warrior remains persistent in thinking he can win against our group and the main fighters still haven't even swung a single blade among them.
"Might as well call it a day," Sherra suggests to the lone adversary, although she doesn't care if her words even reach his ears. She doesn't really believe he would listen to her suggestion and waits for the group's powerful magic to make short work of his defiance. She keeps an arrow at the ready just in case though.
Once things are settled down, Sherra will walk a perimeter with her bow helping the fighters keep an eye out for more trouble since the others will be focused on learning what they can from the captured warriors. Once any vital information is learned, she will rejoin the group and listen closely.

Questions...
VALIDAR -
After the clerics have had a chance to assist the soldiers and the shock of 'waking up' has started to wear of a bit, Validar will address the soldiers, trying to determine if they are Cavius' men or from another area and if soldiers or adventurers. He will ask what they know of other troops in the area and what else they can expect on the way to the swamp and inside of it.

Lyonessa:
riding:
Chareos will talk with those around him in various conversations as they ride. He soon finds himself listening to Lyonessa's song and hums along as he learns the beat.
Lyonessa smiles at the mage once she notices he seems to be humming along. "Is there a favorite you wish to hear, something from your childhood or a rousing ballad I can do for you?"
Corley is unusually quiet during the ride northward. The talents of Lyonessa do help relieve Corley's anxiety somewhat and puts him into a better mood.
"Is there anything you would like to hear my lord? Something to raise your spirits?" Lyonessa will ask after judging for herself that the young man is not as talkative as he usually is.
at battle:
Knowing she chose a spell with poor range, Lyonessa still keeps it close in her mind. She watches as magic and arrows fly and begin to strike down their targets. A few arrows are fired in return, but prove a minor distraction. It is over soon enough.
Lyonessa will stay near the others as they round up the prisoners. She keeps her Hypnotism spell ready in case any of them were attempting to dupe us. Otherwise she waits to hear the answer to Validar's spoken question, especially if adventurers are present.

As the battle ensues, Gwenth nocks a bolt to her bow and begins to keep pace with the others. As the Basilisks come into her range she aims and lets loose her shaft. She watches for a moment as her target gets struck by her bolt.
As she moves forward she nocks another shaft and repeats her actions; again she finds her mark. "And to think I was losing my touch," she says to no one in particular. She watches as the others remove the Basilisks from the field. Only one Rider remains waving his weapon threateningly.
She hears Validar call her for guard duty so she nocks another bolt to her crossbow and watches for trouble on the horizon.
To Swanny--- "Indeed. It is a most desirarble weapon to be sure. Where did you acquire it?"

Post Continued:
The Guardians have overcome their first obstacle in their journey to the dreaded Beleme Swamp. A small squad of basilisks with riders has been defeated, primarily by magic. All six of the basilisks have been either dispeled or slain, each vanishing back to the nothingness that spawned them.
All that remains is the six riders. Adventurers from the looks of them as each have a sword and a longbow. Five of the riders have been freed from the influence that they have been under thanks to the various Dispel Magicks that have been cast.
Only one man remains belligerent, trying to hold everyone off with just his sword. Chareos takes care of the matter and removes the enchantment from the man and he too joins the others on the ground.
Elsewhere, several Guardian healers go to assist the men. The only one who was injured was the one who was struck by his own arrow that rebounded from Kharyna's Spell Shield, but even that is just a flesh wound.
Before riding off a short distance to take up a defensive position, Gwenith spots a familiar face among the men. It is Captain Yorick, another member of the Rennydale Military. Gathering himself, Captain Yorick will speak with Lord Validar and those in the immediate area.
"Much thanks, milord, for freeing us from this vile influence. I was a member of the same unit Lord Cavius was in when we all fell under the influence of the basilisks and were forced into the swamp."
When asked about what to expect in the swamp, Captain Yorick will say, "There are numerous zombies in the area. Perhaps 3 to 4 scores worth. There are other men such as myself being controlled by those inside. We number perhaps a dozen. Lastly there is the Lord of Corruption himself, along with several acolytes. The shrine itself was not built for defense. The only defenses are the men and monsters that guard it. I do not know if there are other beasts that the Lord of Corruption may call upon to defend it."
Four more of the men are soldiers in the service of Lord Cavius. The last man has the look of a woodsman to him. Lyonessa finds that the man keeps staring at her, until he finally moves towards her.
"Is that you, Myveria?", he calls out in puzzlement. "It's me, Kieran."
Overhead, Kharyna circles the area on her griffon in search of trouble. The swamp is clearly visible to her from this vantage point. It is a dark and dingy place and the offensive odor can been smelled this far away. Much of the swamp is hard to see as broad cypress trees are everywhere. Their moss covered branches interlock to shut out daylight to those down in the swamp. The swamp stretches for many miles and the end of it cannot be seen. There are no threats in the immediate vicinity.

Ivy:
Ivy is relieved when Chareos is able free the last man and will offer thanks to Azrella. She watches to see what happens next.
"Aye, it indeed was I." After a pause Ivy will add, "I really have no experience in this sort of thing, Lord Acerion. I've never done anything like this before.. and… well, it seems that I don't know what to do or say next…""If it makes you so nervous then why did you bring it up Ivy? I believe it was you that turned our conversation in this direction, was it not?" Acerion will say with a relaxed grin on his face.

I'm still somewhat new to all of this and eager to get my hands on just about anything useful."Kharyna wrote:"That's a good idea. Although to be honest, what I am always really looking for are those unique items that have been fashioned, or at least very rare."
"Nine thousand", Argent will whistle in an impressed voice. "Ah, you mean your mother locked it on to you. That makes sense, considering she is a sorceress in her own right."Kharyna wrote:"Yes, something like that. I had it appraised once at about 9000 actually. Can't let anyone get their greedy little fingers on it. And the Lock is done at a much higher level than mine. That's the beauty of having a magic-using pedigree I suppose."
With a grin, Argent will say, "Don't knock it until you try it."Kharyna wrote:"That is very true. Unless your goals are similar and you can stay together enough, there just doesn't seem to be enough time to have a serious romance. And I've never been the type to bother with a short fling."
"It's a curse that I must bear", Argent will say before breaking out in laughter. "I'm just an outgoing person who makes friends easily. So if some handsome man wishes to pay close attention to me, who am I to turn him away?"Kharyna wrote:"You may not keep track of names, Kharyna will chuckle in response. "But I have no doubt that the numbers will continue to grow, knowing you. You always have been one to attract the guys."
"That someone would be myself, Kylie. While I lack the magic ring you have, that is why I keep a Feather Fall in memory just in case. Concentrate on yourself while under the influence of the spell and you'll notice a slight tingling sensation. That is the magic at work within you. When the sensation starts to go away, the spell is nearing its end."Returning to Argent and Jallarzi, Kylie asks, "Is there any way to tell when the spell is nearing its end? My ring makes it not a serious problem, but it seems like it could be for someone without similar resources."

Lyonessa:
Four more of the men are soldiers in the service of Lord Cavius. The last man has the look of a woodsman to him. Lyonessa finds that the man keeps staring at her, until he finally moves towards her.
Lyonessa is glad that no one seems to have suffered major injuries, but wonders how hurt they are in their heart and mind. She notices someone staring at her, but shrugs it off initially. She has seen many stare at her and others before, plus the man may be suffering confusion. However he seems persistent and she is both confused and concerned.
"Is that you, Myveria?", he calls out in puzzlement. "It's me, Kieran."
"What?!? What name did you say?" Lyonessa runs over to the man. "Myveria is my sister! You have seen her?" She tries not to shake the information from him but her hands sit squarely on his shoulders although she does not remember doing so. "Was she with you? Was she here? You must tell me, I beg you."

My voice, my will, my magic - three blessings bestowed by Mystra that spell your doom
KHARYNA -
Argent - "That is one difference between us. You already had numerous adventures under your belt before you came under Jallarzi's tutelage. I'm still somewhat new to all of this and eager to get my hands on just about anything useful."
"Yes, that is very true. I started in the temple of the Cold One and after learning that my allegiances, naive though they were, were misplaced, I turned to the Mystran temple. It was some time before I was ready to study with Jallarzi."
"I am sure that you will find plenty of interesting magick items in your travels. I suppose I am a bit snobby when it comes to magick items now. I really have gotten immersed in the uniqueness of items and the rarity of some of them. Once I am poweful enough, I imagine I may try to fabricate some of my own."
"Nine thousand", Argent will whistle in an impressed voice. "Ah, you mean your mother locked it on to you. That makes sense, considering she is a sorceress in her own right."
"Yes, Chasreena makes us both look like rookies and amateurs. So there's little risk of losing it. And the benefits of having some of her items around are great. We hardly have to ride anywhere for instance, instead we teleport with this Magic Mirror. The estate is pretty amazing as well!"
With a grin, Argent will say, "Don't knock it until you try it."
Kharyna just smiles at her friend. In some ways they are so alike and in others they are so different.
"It's a curse that I must bear", Argent will say before breaking out in laughter. "I'm just an outgoing person who makes friends easily. So if some handsome man wishes to pay close attention to me, who am I to turn him away?"
"Yes, it simply wouldn't do to not take advantage of such a situation. I am sure that you would both get something positive out of the 'arrangement'."
Kharyna doesn't see any threats from here and she is ready to use a Fireball should there be one, while the others are not yet in the swamp. With the marsh gases, it may be even more powerful than normal. She keeps her eyes peeled, hoping to find something to blow up.

VALIDAR -
Before riding off a short distance to take up a defensive position, Gwenith spots a familiar face among the men.
"Your trial is over now, Captain Yorick. Rennydale has been freed and Lord Cavius is no longer under the influence of the vile black water. You and your men can return to Rennydale now or wait for us here. We will be camping overnight and assaulting the temple tomorrow."
"Three to four score, you say, just enough for Lord Corley to take on I should think. The undead are no bother to us and the defenses of this place are insufficient to stand up to an organized assault. Whoever was behind this plan did not consider that they would loose. There is no contingency for counter-attacks or assaults. Either they were being duped by some higher power and testing the abilities of the kingdom's heroes, or they were extremely foolish or extremely overconfident. In any case it makes it much easier for us to throw off this vile affliction."
Validar will note the exchange between Lyonessa and this woodsman Kieran.

Laucian--
After the last man is brought back from his mental prison Laucian walks amongst those riders checking if they are hurt. Finding only the one whom suffered a minor graze of an arrow he will ask to see to his wound.
Taking the reins he mounts his horse when he hears Lyonessa's familiar voice. "Is that you, Myveria?", a voice calls out in puzzlement.
He can't help but notice Lyonessa gather some information on her lost kin. "All you needed was a little faith and luck," he thinks to himself. Deep down he can only hope that his time will come with Ehlonna's guidance.
He will take his place near the outskirts of the group scanning the horizon for danger.

Chareos
Kylie-"Fight them?" Clearly, the idea comes as a surprise to Kylie. "I've been friends with Jallarzi's mounts for so long that I've never thought about the need to fight them. Of course, now that you mention it, there are griffons living in the wild as well..." A serious look crossed the young half-elf maiden's face.
Chareos considers the young mage's words. He can't help but notice the naivity in her words. To judge a group as a whole by trained pets is a folley. "Apparently you have much to learn Kylie as we all do." he states.
Lyonessa smiles at the mage once she notices he seems to be humming along. "Is there a favorite you wish to hear, something from your childhood or a rousing ballad I can do for you?"
Chareos scratches the side of his face for a moment as he thinks of a ballad. "There is one but I have not heard of it in some time though. Truthfully I do not even know the theme. I am sure any ballad that you choose will be worthwhile," he says with an easy smile.
Present
Chareos casts his spell and the fighter soon sheds the mists within his mind. A smile comes across Chareos' face. He listens to the others speak to a Captain whom was in Lord Cavius's employ. He can't help but ask, "Captain Yorick, would you happen to know if there were any other patrols in the area?"
He will then wait with the others for orders.

Assault on the Swamp
Grondar:
Grondar's face becomes far more serious. "Still, it wouldn't do to underestimate. Though there may be few of the accolytes, they may be quite powerful, and the Corrupter even more so. I doubt the Sleeping God would choose a feeble avatar. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst, as the saying goes."
"Thank you. I've long appreciated the special joys I get from being a turnip," Grondar replies with a laugh. "It makes me proud to know that I provide good fiber for your diet." Still chuckling, Grondar explains that the word she wanted was essentially correct, but the pronounciation gives it a substantially different meaning. He then proceeds to demonstrate, both with this word and several others.Sherra wrote:"It helps to have such a skilled and devoted teacher," Sherra attempts in dwarvish to praise Grondar, although she hopes she didn't call him something else entirely because that last word didn't seem quite right!
The wound is so minor, Grondar doesn't bother to use a spell to Heal it. Instead, he binds it with mundane bandages and a poultice, which takes no more than a few minutes.GM Mad wrote:Elsewhere, several Guardian healers go to assist the men. The only one who was injured was the one who was struck by his own arrow that rebounded from Kharyna's Spell Shield, but even that is just a flesh wound.
At Laucian's request, Grondar pulls back the bandage for the elf's perusal. The wound is indeed shallow, though somewhat nasty looking, and the worst of the bleeding has passed.Laucian wrote:After the last man is brought back from his mental prison he walks amongst those riders checking if they are hurt. Finding only the one whom suffered a minor graze of an arrow he will ask to see to his wound.
The comment regarding Lord Corley draws a chuckle from Grondar. "Aye, though we really should tie one arm behind his back just to make it a challenge."Validar wrote:"Three to four score, you say, just enough for Lord Corley to take on I should think. Assault on the Swamp
Kylie:
______
Kylie remains well back, her bow trained on the lone opponent as Validar talks with Cavius' man. Only when it is clear that Chareos' spell has done the trick and the man is himself again, does she relax the bowstring.
Turning her mount she takes up a position near the perimeter to watch for intrusion.
Kylie does her best to sense the fading of the spell's effect. It is subtle, but she find that it is indeed detectable. Perhaps it will get easier with practice. "It seems silly to need to keep a second spell just so as to be able to use a different spell safely. I hate to say it, but I think the spell could have been designed better."Argent wrote:"That someone would be myself, Kylie. While I lack the magic ring you have, that is why I keep a Feather Fall in memory just in case. Kylie is not amused by Chareos' bluntness. "Apparently," she says in a huff before stalking off.Chareos wrote:Chareos considers the young mage's words. Acerion
Acerion:
"Aye, it indeed was I." After a pause Ivy will add, "I really have no experience in this sort of thing, Lord Acerion. I've never done anything like this before.. and… well, it seems that I don't know what to do or say next…"
"Do not worry yourself needlessly about what to do or what you may think is required," Acerion will try to comfort Ivy. "I have never felt the way I do for you for anyone before, so it is new for both of us."
Acerion will draw her into his arms and hold her, one hand entwined in her hair. "We have much ahead of us that requires our focus and devotion unfortunately. Once we are victorious in the swamp then we shall have some time to spend together properly."
He will pull back from her and look into her eyes once more and show her his sincerity and lay bare what he is beginning to feel for her reflected in his eyes.
Acerion takes note that one of the freed adventurers seems to know Lyonessa, but calls her a different name. He hears her response and it then makes sense to him. Still, he remains alert and near Corley on the off-chance there are still dangers lurking about.

Sherwood
Sherwood:
Sherwood will listen to the conversation with Captain Yorick and the woodsman, but have nothing particular to offer himself. They seem to be typical of the men ensnared by this evil and forced to do its bidding.
After the men have been dealt with, Sherwood will say, "We should begin to roughly scout the swamp and find a safe path to travel. Jallarzi should create her magical dwelling and we should retire for the evening to prepare for the battle to come. I suspect that it will be far more dangerous than this minor skirmish."
Sherwood will make a point to speak to the woodsman about the trails in the swamp as he was most likely just in there, so his knowledge would be fresher than Lord Cavius'.
"I think I've grown far too accustomed to working alone as opposed to with a large group such as this. I tend to keep my thoughts and plan of action to myself at times. The fault is not entirely yours, Grondar.""Not a problem, Sherwood," Grondar says. "It just requires a little rejiggering of my expectations." He taps the side of his head and grins. "I'm afraid these old wheels don't turn as fast as they used to."

I do what is necessary.
Corley
Corley:
Corley can't help but overhear Lady Lyonessa' conversation with the woodsman. He's happy for her that she may learn some vital clue concerning the whereabouts of her sister.
"Thank you for your kind offer, milady. Indeed, something to raise my-- indeed all of our spirits during these dark times would be most welcome. I fear that my knowledge of song titles is rather limited. Perhaps something jaunty and uplifting would fit the occasion?"Is there anything you would like to hear my lord? Something to raise your spirits?" Lyonessa will ask after judging for herself that the young man is not as talkative as he usually is.
"Indeed, it is somewhat disappointing Lord Validar", Corley will say, although his smile does seem a bit forced. "I was hoping for a dragon or two to battle."Lord Validar wrote:"Three to four score, you say, just enough for Lord Corley to take on I should think. We fight for King and Country!
GM Notes
GM Notes:
After a pause, he tells his tale. "I was a member of the same party as Myveria. We bypassed the troubles in Rennydale and kept to the open countryside. Early one morning, these basilisks stampeded our camp, catching us off guard. One by one we fell under their influence and went into that unnatural swamp. Each of us drank the black water and was helpless to resist its control. The last I saw of Myveria, she and some others were traveling to the ruins of Ardelphia to reinforce those there who were already under this evil control. I have not heard of her or seen her since. I am sorry I cannot tell you more."
"Your sister? I see… She did speak of having a twin sister, but your name escapes me", Kieran responds."What?!? What name did you say?" Lyonessa runs over to the man. "Myveria is my sister! You have seen her?" She tries not to shake the information from him but her hands sit squarely on his shoulders although she does not remember doing so. "Was she with you? Was she here? "This is most gratifying news, milord. Most gratifying indeed! With your permission, we would like to set out immediately for Rennydale. The further away from this putrid swamp, the better. We are all eager to see home with our own eyes once more.Validar wrote:"Your trial is over now, Captain Yorick. Rennydale has been freed and Lord Cavius is no longer under the influence of the vile black water. You and your men can return to Rennydale now or wait for us here. Try it and find out!
Swanny
Swanny:
"Well Gwenith, I found it… It's from… You know, come to think of it, I really can't recall where I found it. Undoubtedly it was a found treasure or it was the spoils of victory somewhere. Hmmm… Perhaps I've been celebrating a bit too much as of late…"Gwenith wrote:To Swanny--- "Indeed. It is a most desirable weapon to be sure. Where did you acquire it?"
Lets get this party started!
Ivy
Ivy:
Ivy does feel better after Acerion holds her. She'll put her own arms around his muscular frame. She lays her head on his chest for a short time.
"You speak wisely, Acerion. The trials ahead will be difficult and a calm and clear head will win the day. But afterwards, that is one victory celebration that shall enjoy looking forwards too."

Argent:
"Yes, that is always an option somewhere down the road. I really don't know if I'm more interested in creating magic items, or creating my own unique spells. I think I may lean towards the latter. Just think of it… My name brandied about like those such as Tenser and Mordenkainen. 'Argent's Spell of Awesome Energy' just has a nice ring to it."Kharyna wrote:"I am sure that you will find plenty of interesting magick items in your travels. So there's little risk of losing it. And the benefits of having some of her items around are great. We hardly have to ride anywhere for instance, instead we teleport with this Magic Mirror. "Perhaps, but Feather Fall has its own uses beyond being memorized in conjunction with a fly spell. There are plenty of times where an adventuring may find themselves trapped somewhere up high or falling. It could save your life."Kylie does her best to sense the fading of the spell's effect. It is subtle, but she find that it is indeed detectable. Perhaps it will get easier with practice. turnips and dwarves..
Sherra:
She will listen to his corrections and make note of all the various pitfalls she could find herself in with the language she has still yet to master. Throughout the day she finds herself grinning uncontrollably at the error she made.
It sounds as though everything is squared away with the men freed from the influence of the black water. Sherra is relieved that they didn't have to resort to killing any of them since they all proved to be basically good of heart and intent. She'll make preperations to get underway, and take a moment to see if she can spot hers, or any of the other archers' arrows, that had missed their targets and may still be intact.
Sherra drowns in a fit of laughter that she can't bring under control for quite some time. She feels guilty, and a bit embarrassed, but thankfully Grondar is laughing as well. Finally she's able to regain her composure, but the laugh was definitely refreshing. She gives the dwarf a hug and says, "Well if it makes any difference, you're the wisest and most noble turnip I've ever met.""Thank you. He then proceeds to demonstrate, both with this word and several others.

VALIDAR -
The comment regarding Lord Corley draws a chuckle from Grondar. "Aye, though we really should tie one arm behind his back just to make it a challenge."
"That would make using a two-handed sword a challenge indeed. And yet, were it to come to that, I still would bet my family's castle on the outcome."
"Indeed, it is somewhat disappointing Lord Validar", Corley will say, although his smile does seem a bit forced. "I was hoping for a dragon or two to battle."
"You may yet get your wish, my good friend. Afterall, swamps are often homes to black dragons. And my guess is that if the proximity of this Lord of Corruption has not tainted everything in the swamp, the creatures who live here will be a natural defense at the least. At worst, the inhabitants will be actively defending the shrine. We may have to fight our way to the shrine first."
"We do not know what to expect and it is important that we do not become overconfident due to the lack of challenge we have experienced so far. We must be quick to strike the acolytes down and nto allow them any surprises. As for this Lord of Corruption, he will not be a threat for much longer."
"This is most gratifying news, milord. Most gratifying indeed! With your permission, we would like to set out immediately for Rennydale. The further away from this putrid swamp, the better. We are all eager to see home with our own eyes once more.
"Indeed, you are free to return to your homes and to Rennydale. Inform Lord Cavius that we have indeed arrived at the Beleme Swamp and are preparing to enter in. In a few days, the danger from this swamp will be no more."
"The number of these enchanted basilisks they could summon is limited, friend. To my knowledge, these six were the last ones in this area."
"That is good knowledge, but perhaps with these destroyed, they can summon more. However, as we are about to enter the swamp, it is not an issue. We have new threats and dangers to concern ourselves with now."
"Indeed, Sherwood is correct. We must push on and continue with our plan. Odds are that our arrival will be noticed, if it has not been already, but it is still prudent to not tarry too long. Those of you with scouting skills should go with Sherwood and find a location for our encampment."
Sherwood will make a point to speak to the woodsman about the trails in the swamp as he was most likely just in there, so his knowledge would be fresher than Lord Cavius'.
Validar will approach Kieran as well. "I overheard your comment that you adventured with Lyonessa's sister. You are welcome to travel with us as we hope to locate her in the course of our adventures. Also as you are not of Rennydale, perhaps it would be safer than traveling alone."
Validar will round up the others and set guards as the scouts go into the swamp, with overhead coverage from the griffon riders.

Conquer or Die!
Lyonessa:
"Your sister? I see… She did speak of having a twin sister, but your name escapes me", Kieran responds.
"I am Lyonessa," she tells Kieran to help him remember.
She tries to tell just how well Kieran knows her sister, but is uncertain. "Thank you for telling me what you know. I am worried about her even more now, but it is good to hear news regardless. I know she was still alive when you last saw her, and that is a comfort." She will pause a moment before continuing, "Were you two close? Maybe you wish to go with us to help find her?" Her question is repeated by Validar a moment later.

She will look over at Laucian while she waits for his answer. He believes he sees the strange mixture of worry and relief on her features. She turns back to Kieran after a moment however.

"As you wish. Before Jallazari casts her spell for the night perhaps we can lead the horses away from the dwelling and double back on the tracks. It may be of use to us to mislead any potential foe."

Laucian looks on in understanding as Lyonessa's features are torn between worry and relief. Feeling as though his comrade may need some support he approaches and gives her a half smile as she waits for her answers.
