New Frontiers #35

The Guardians continue to relax at Castle Cavius inside the magical mansion conjured by the Lady Sallavarian…

In one of the large gathering chambers, the spell conference is beginning to wind down.
Chareos listens to the suggestions of Jallarzi as well as Validar. He understands his place among this group and soon replies to them.

"I will memorize two Shocking Grasps instead of one magic missile and Lasting Breath as it does not suit the role I was given."

Validar - "Perhaps you misunderstood the Lady Sallavarian, my friend. I think she suggested adding another Magic Missile, not removing one. HTH spells may be ideal, but the situation is not always ideal. I may not know much of spell-casting, but I know the effectiveness of a Magic Missile spell."
"Lord Validar is correct, Chareos," Jallarzi adds. "My apologies for not being more clear."

"Ahh, more information that I was not aware of," Grondar murmurs. "From what you say, it would sound as though there will really be little challenge for our augmented group. Perhaps a few should stay behind just to make things interesting..." he says with a chuckle.
"If given the choice, I would rather be overly prepared then under-prepared. This task will not be easy, but it will not be impossible either."

Moving to the front of the room, Sherwood continues to speak.

"Here is our rough itinerary. Tomorrow will primarily be a travel day. A day's ride will put us less than half a day from the swamp. We will be traveling in the riding formation as mentioned by Validar. Our regular scouts will be out front. Jallarzi and Kharyna will be airborne on griffons and it'll be their job to spot any basilisks and take them out with ranged magic."

"I suspect the next day's travel will be slow. The closer we get to the swamp, the more basilisks we may encounter. It may be necessary for the group to attack with ranged weapons and spells. Close quarter combat should be the last resort."

"We'll stop once we reach the swamp and we'll scout out what we can from overhead. We'll move a little ways inside the swamp and then camp for the night. Next day we march on the shrine."

"Remember that the spell recommendations give tonight by Jallarzi are for the day we actually enter the swamp. Keep Fireballs and other ranged fire magic in memory so that it may be used against the basilisks. If there is nothing else, let's retire for the evening. We've got another day of riding ahead of us."

Those outside the spell conference relax and chat amongst themselves. Swanny and Acerion engage in practice swordplay. Swanny is slightly more skilled at battling with two weapons, but Acerion does more than hold his own.

Next morning, the Guardians depart the magical mansion. Castle Cavius seems a bit more lively than the night before. A hearty breakfast is served before the day's ride begins. Out in the courtyard the group is reunited with their mounts. Lord Cavius wishes you good luck on your quest.

Jallarzi casts a Mount spell for herself and Kharyna, conjuring a pair of griffons. The women mount up and then fly off, leading the way to the swamp to the north.

As you ride away, you note that the dark haze that surrounded Rennydale is gone. The sun shines brightly.

The first part of the day passes quickly. Although the sun is out, it is rather chilly. The recent snowfall slowly melts and will revert back to ice come the night.

Late in the afternoon, Jallarzi spots a basilisk from overhead and obliterates it with a Fireball/Magic Missile combination. Kharyna spots another before a halt is called to riding. She destroys it with her magic.

Jallarzi lands her griffon well away from the horse as the beast makes the mounts nervous. As she steps off, she dispels her steed. She casts her magical mansion once more and the group retires for the evening.

The night passes without incident and the group is on the move next morning. Jallarzi summons a pair of griffons once more and the ride begins. As the ride progresses Beleme Swamp comes closer into view. A strange haze hangs over the swamp, much like it did at Rennydale. It makes the riders even more apprehensive about approaching. Lord Acerion can feel the malevolence rising from the swamp even this far out.

Only a few hours pass before something is spotted. Lady Sallavarian banks on her griffon and flies back towards the main group. Hovering overhead, Jallarzi calls down what she's seen.

"There is a pack of six basilisks up ahead. Unlike the ones we spotted yesterday, these ones have riders! Adventurers with swords from the looks of them. Perhaps they are under the influence of the black water. How do you want to proceed from here?"

GM Notes:

I covered a couple of days here just to get things moving again. As noted in the post, the spell recommendations that Jallarzi gave were for when the group entered into the swamp. Your pre-recommendation spell lists are fine and you can revert back to that one if you posted a revised list in response to Jallarzi.

Now what?

Sherra wrote:"I appreciate the offer, but my path lies with Validar for the foreseeable future. There are a number of things we had discussed that I believe we have a chance of seeing through to completion," Sherra will say.

"I'm sure our paths will cross again though, especially if our survival skills and the blessings of Tymora have anything to say about it," she will say with her smile firmly back in place.
The sadness is visible in Talia's face as she tries to hold back her feelings. "Yes, I am sure we shall meet again somewhere."

The next few days pass quickly as we ride along. Talia mainly keeps to herself and has nothing to offer when the riders on basilisks are encountered.
I shall find the safest path.

Ivy feels better to be back on the road once more. At least it feels like we're getting somewhere. The root of this evil lies in the swamp and that’s where we must go to rip it out. During the ride, Ivy will attempt to detect the presence of undead every so often.

Ivy brings her mount to a halt when Lady Sallavarian returns and reports what lies ahead. From the sound of it, the group should be able to destroy them from range, but there is concern over the beasts' riders. Are they victims or willing participants in all of this? Lacking any ranged attacks of her own, Ivy will have to wait and see what happens.

Lord Corley

Corley:
"I'm sorry, Corley, I did not mean to make you uncomfortable with my silly questions," Kylie says. "I will not bother you any further," she says, rising. Turning, Kylie moves quickly off, seeking some place to nurse her broken heart in solitude.
Lord Corley is extremely confused when Lady Kylie walks off seemingly dejected. 'Was it something I said', the young noble can't help but wonder.

Puzzled, Corley will seek out his friend Validar. He is older, more experienced, and wiser. Perhaps he'll comprehend just what transpired.

Later, Validar will meet with some of the group, if they are not predisposed. He will try to find some time to hook up Acerion and Corley, along with perhaps Lyonessa. Validar would like to talk about their plans to move on Stone Ridge and the continued problems with Corunglain and the fallen forts to the north. He understands that Lyonessa is very interested to find her sister, but cannot be certain the next stop will be Ardelphia. The lords have committed to freeing Stone Ridge and this might be better advanced by first reclaiming the two fallen forts. He will ask their opinion on where to proceed as well.

"You know my mind on these things Validar," Acerion will reply. "The two forts might indeed be our best course of action. There will be a need to consider defenses after we have reclaimed each area so they do not fall once more upon our departure. Do we have available resources for such considerations?"

"Indeed, Lord Kalindor. It has been a pleasure to do battle with you and I expect we will do so side by side for some time, along with Lord Corley. The forts do need to be taken one at a time and likely before Ardelphia itself."

"As for their defenses that is my biggest concern. It is not an issue to reclaim them, but to retake them permanently. Corunglain does not have the men to hold them permanently, it would seem. We can augment that and I hope to offer some other options as well, perhaps with more poor people from Elcadan. Those who are capable of serving in the military would help to swell the ranks of those we can supply. Our troops can train them and perhaps we can develop a new town or two in the south of Stone Ridge for their families to settle. There are also mercenaries who can be hired temporarily."
"Indeed comrades, it will be a glorious campaign! I did give my word of honor to the lovely Lady Ardel that I would strive to free her homeland. As a gentleman, I cannot go back on my word. Point out which foes need eradicating, Lord Validar, and I shall dispatch them back to their foul gods!"

When Lady Sallavarian reports that basilisks and riders are ahead, Lord Corley will snap down his helmet and lower his lance. "Then let us greet these riders with courage and forged steel! Let us charge the enemy lines and determine the true strength of their valor!"

Argent:
Kylie blushes. "I guess it's just a matter of what you're used to. I've been collecting things since I was very young, but the only experiences I have with men other than my father are the occasional groping lecher."
"That does make a difference. I'm also a collector in a certain sense, but would rather have things given to me than being forced to take them."

Kylie wrote:"Yes, I'm quite looking forward to when I have the skill to learn more advanced spells. However, I'm not quite there yet; hopefully, I will be soon. Fly and Wraithform are among those I am most anxious for."
"They'll be here waiting for you once you are able to cast them."

Later Argent finds Kylie all alone and it appears that she's been sobbing. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what has transpired. Argent will give her friend a reassuring hug. "It's okay, Kylie. All part of growing up. I take it what we talked about went badly. Do you want to discuss it? Is there anything I can do?"

After the spell talk breaks up, Argent will seek out Lyonessa. From what the invoker has heard she's a bard and priestess of Mystra. How strange for a bard to be this quiet!

"Well met, Lyonessa. I have heard that you joined the Guardians in an attempt to find your sister. Forgive me for prying, but have you attempted to scry for her? I have a Crystal Ball and I would be willing to let you make the attempt."

On the day of our departure, Argent will sweep into the courtyard with her meager belongings. She's wearing a black dress for the trip. However, most if it is concealed under her bulky fur coat. After finding out which horse is hers, she'll place her bags on the steed.

Argent will watch as Jallarzi summons griffons for herself and Kharyna. "Given the choice, I'd rather keep my distance from those things," Argent will say to Kylie. "Griffons have always made me nervous. Perhaps it's that they can bite your arm off with those beaks! Give me a fly spell any day."

Days later we come across basilisks with riders laying in our path. "At least, a chance to show what I can do." Argent will cast Fly on herself and rise above her horse, but will keep a safe distance from the hovering griffon. "Do we plan on engaging these basilisks? If so, then I have several fireballs with their names on them ready to go!"
I am an Invoker of no small power.

VALIDAR -

"You are too kind, milord", Ivy will utter. She's a bit flushed at the praise she received. "I thank you."

"I recognize the value of a friend and a companion, nothing more. I am the one to be thankful for your presence."

"I knew that I could count on you, my good friend, Lord Corley. Be sure that we will make good use of that good right arm of yours!"

Later,...

Lord Validar listens to his friend's question and obvious dismay. "So what I gather is that you talked about your families and your background and she became distraught and slipped off? From what I can see the two of you come from very different backgrounds, my friend. Kylie grew up in the slums of Elcadan. While you may not be as familiar with them as we are in Pyris, you can guess what her upbringing must have been like."

"Also as the nobility in Elcadan is scum, many of the Elcadan poor have no love for nobility. You can imagine the difficulty she must be having in speaking with you and trying not to hate you at the same time. You come from two different worlds and perhaps your own words reminded her too much of the world she came from."

"Still, she has all the opportunity to throw off the trappings that were placed upon her. I do not understand the young lady myself sometimes. I once tried to empathize and comfort her and she dismissed it as if nothing. Her dislike for me is palpable. But I have noticed that she has taken an interest in talking to you in the past and you mentioned she has cooked treats for you as well. Perhaps the young lady is simply being nice. Given her feelings toward us nobles, I doubt that." Validar scratches his chin for a moment as he contemplates everything Corley has related to him. "Perhaps she has a bit of an infatuation with you, my strapping comrade. Clearly the line of questioning on marriage would indicate that alone, besides all else that you told me. The young lady has come face to face with the chasm that seperates your worlds. At least it seems to be a chasm to her."

Validar listens as Sherwood spells out their plans for the next few days. I concur, Sherwood. Your plan is sound for the approach to the enemy." Validar adds little else unless asked as it seems fairly straight forward and clear and he doesn't wish to start another debate over minute details.

The next morning, Lord Validar eats heartily as usual and chats with those up as early as he. He will check on Havok, who has already been prepared by some of Lord Cavius' staff and mounts up as the group convenes in the courtyard.

"Thank you for your hospitality, Lord Cavius. We shall return when the Beleme blight has been eradicated." Lord Validar rides out of the courtyard and the castle grounds in the lead of the group, much as he led them into here a few days ago. He did not expect that they would be leaving stronger than when they arrived, much less intact. So far, things were progressing well.

As Jallarzi casts the spell that summons the griffons, Validar looks on with much interest. He has always had an affinity for the magnificent creatures, and not only because his family carries their image on their coat-of-arms, crest and seal. They are powerful, majestic and noble. One day, Lord Validar would make one his own battle-steed.

Watching the mage Kharyna mount the griffon, Validar's mind wanders. Alas she has her own goals and duties which do not mesh with his own. She is a fine woman and extremely remarkable, not to mentioned extremely beautiful. He watches them fly off with the beating of large feathered wings, as the others in the column pass by him and then continues riding in his position from the rear.

The first day passes uneventfully. A few basilisks are encountered and summarily destroyed efficiently and quickly, as planned. Another night in the magnificent mansion conjured by his cousin passes smoothly with conversation and care of weapons and armor.

The next day, they approach Beleme Swamp and Validar can see the haze hovering over the area like the stink of decay on a week-old battlefield.

Soon, Jalarzi returns from her scouting. Lord Validar rides to the front of the column as she approaches to hear her news.
"There is a pack of six basilisks up ahead. Unlike the ones we spotted yesterday, these ones have riders! Adventurers with swords from the looks of them. Perhaps they are under the influence of the black water. How do you want to proceed from here?"

"Spread out! We should try to incapacitate the riders and destroy the mounts. Spellcasters! Concentrate on Magic Missiles on the basilisks and remove the riders as best you can. Clerics, try a Dispel to see if we can free them."

When Lady Sallavarian reports that basilisks and riders are ahead, Lord Corley will snap down his helmet and lower his lance. "Then let us greet these riders with courage and forged steel! Let us charge the enemy lines and determine the true strength of their valor!"

"Hold for the moment, Lord Corley! Allow the others to do their tasks. Then when the moment is right, we will ride them down and vanquish them all!"

"Archers! Concentrate on the basilisks as well. They are the true threat. Try to identify any spellcasters! Target them as well!"

"At least, a chance to show what I can do." Argent will cast Fly on herself and rise above her horse, but will keep a safe distance from the hovering griffon. "Do we plan on engaging these basilisks? If so, then I have several fireballs with their names on them ready to go!"

"Save your fireballs for riderless basilisks, my lady. The men may belong to Lord Cavius or be otherwise under the evil influence we face! Try to incapacitate them without killing them."

Validar will also snap down the visor to his helm and lower his lance. He will form up side by side with the other fighters in a line, ready to charge at the correct moment.

Lyonessa:

with Validar:

He will try to find some time to hook up Acerion and Corley, along with perhaps Lyonessa. Validar would like to talk about their plans to move on Stone Ridge and the continued problems with Corunglain and the fallen forts to the north. He understands that Lyonessa is very interested to find her sister, but cannot be certain the next stop will be Ardelphia.

"I am very interested in finding my sister because I fear for her safety Validar. She is an accomplished mage but if she wanders alone they she may have been overpowered or worse. I am grateful for all of you who saved me and is why I am accompanying you since our paths lie in similar directions. It is quite possible to find clues even without the most direct path for I know not exactly which way she may have ventured."

with Argent:

After the spell talk breaks up, Argent will seek out Lyonessa. From what the invoker has heard she's a bard and priestess of Mystra. How strange for a bard to be this quiet!

"Well met, Lyonessa. I have heard that you joined the Guardians in an attempt to find your sister. Forgive me for prying, but have you attempted to scry for her? I have a Crystal Ball and I would be willing to let you make the attempt."

"Well met, Argent. Yes, indeed I am seeking out my sister, and that is common knowledge so do not feel you are prying. I have not attempted to scry for I have no access to such items with that power such as your Crystal Ball. Your offer is indeed generous and maybe once we have finished the task that lay before us we could indeed attempt to scry. I would hate to come into knowledge that she is in danger and be unable to help her. It would prove a dangerous distraction for the task that lies before us now."

travelling:

Lyonessa is plesaed to see the sun is shining and the haze that had been plaguing Rennydale has vanished. She will sing various travelling songs througout the day to help everyone forget the long ride. Lyonessa will also marvel at the griffons that were magically summoned and watch them in their flight.

The next day is much the same except there is a group of basilisks with riders. i don't recall having heard them being ridden before She will prepare herself for the possible conflict looming ahead and bring her Hypnotism spell to mind, and will cast if an opportunity presents itself. it worked well against the soldiers after all Then Validar speaks:

"Spread out! We should try to incapacitate the riders and destroy the mounts. Spellcasters! Concentrate on Magic Missiles on the basilisks and remove the riders as best you can. Clerics, try a Dispel to see if we can free them."

"I have a Hypnotism spell at the ready Validar as I lack the power for Dispels. The Hypotism should be just as valuable if my recent success with it bears remembering." Lyonessa will then move to an advantageous position.

Grondar:
Validar wrote:"It may seem to be sensible to be ready for the widest array of contingencies possible and in a group of this size, the commitment of spell availability to those which may not be used, but could prove useful in the correct set of circumstances is one where they may not be watsed or needed otherwise. In a smaller group however, I have always taken the idea that each 'weapon' or 'skill' we have is useable and therefore limited not to a wide selction, but focused on those which we know we can make use of. There is no correct answer and experience is always the best teacher, whether or own or others."
"I would agree that there is no correct answer. Like anyone, we just have to do the best that we can. Hopefully, having a group this large will cover for any minor failings in our information or choices."
Validar wrote:"We welcome you to continue with us, my dwarven friend. Your prescence is not one to be endured, but enjoyed. While we do not always see eye to eye, I welcome strong opinions and characters. I am sure we will continue to disagree on our philisophies, but we can do much good together."
"Whether you consider my presense trying or not is, of course, up to you," Grondar says with a mischievous grin. "Still, I agree that we can achieve much more together than separately, and that is the true goal."
Validar pauses as he considers Sherra's words and he gauges the smile trying to force it's way out. "Your words are entertaining, my lady Sherra. And we definitely want to keep those TRUE plans under wraps for now. We have enough issues with the recovery of Stone Ridge and the plague that has affected all of Corunglain to open even more doors to trouble. However, those steps are also important to completing the upcoming plans. With luck we can pull them together." Validar has an easy tone as he speaks. There is no question that the man has ambition. The only question may be how much.

Validar notices Grondar paying close attention to the conversation, but does not say anything. "When the current situation in Corunglain with the Black Water is resolved, then we should talk again about the next steps to take."
"That we shall," Grondar says with a nod.
Sherwood wrote:"If given the choice, I would rather be overly prepared then under-prepared. This task will not be easy, but it will not be impossible either."
"I suppose you are right, Lord Validar. Considering how little we really know about what we are likely to encounter, we should probably be as powerful a group as we can be."

Grondar listens as Sherwood addresses the group. Mulling over what is said, he comes upon a question. "Sherwood? So we don't expect to actually reach the shrine until the third day? I'm afraid the exact timetable wasn't clear to me previously."

Before leaving the next day, Grondar approaches Lord Cavius. "I am sorry for those who fell in the battle the first day. Though it may be little comfort to their families, I will pray for the victims in an effort to secure a good place in the afterlife for them."

As they set out, Grondar seems to be managing his pony a bit better than previously. He carefully steers well clear of the griffons, figuring that his mount is likely to appear an appetizing snack to them.

Once underway, he chats amiably with Sherra and the others near him in the riding order. He will gladly work with her on mastering his language.

A bit sore from riding, Grondar is glad of a night's rest. The eerie mist before them as they ride does little to cheer him, however. "There can be no good from what creates such an evil fog" he grumbles to himself. Fortunately, most of the morning passes relatively uneventfully.

Later, Jallarzi returns with her news. From the sound of it, he does not doubt the influence of the black water in this.
Corley wrote:When Lady Sallavarian reports that basilisks and riders are ahead, Lord Corley will snap down his helmet and lower his lance. "Then let us greet these riders with courage and forged steel! Let us charge the enemy lines and determine the true strength of their valor!"
Validar wrote:"Hold for the moment, Lord Corley! Allow the others to do their tasks. Then when the moment is right, we will ride them down and vanquish them all!"
Grondar looks at Corley. "I agree with Lord Validar. These men may be under the influence of the black water, and may yet be redeemed. We must give them that possibility; and I will bend my magics to that task."

Once the battle orders have been given, Grondar will move to join his assigned group, looking to Jallarzi for any further instruction specific to their squad. He readies his crossbow and settles his helmet comfortably upon his head.

Unfortunately, it seems to me that the question of who was in charge of Groups 2 & 3 never really got resolved. Unless otherwise specified, I think the other members in those Groups will have to look to Sherwood and Jallarzi for tactical instructions in battle.

Kylie:
Validar wrote:Kylie's answer does not surprise the noble lord. She does not seem to have much direction in her life so far. "We will speak again when the temple in the swamp is cleansed."
Kylie nods in response before moving off to deal with other issues.
Sherwood wrote:"I suspect the next day's travel will be slow.

Kylie appears a bit shocked by these announcements. "It seems I misunderstood what Lord Cavius had said. From what you have said, we should retain Gaze Reflection and fire spells among our selections until the last day of the trip?" Kylie takes careful note of this, as well as Grondar's question and any answer to it.
Argent wrote:"That does make a difference. I'm also a collector in a certain sense, but would rather have things given to me than being forced to take them."
"Living in Elcadan, nothing was given to us. After my father lost his arm and his job, it was the only way to survive - or seemed so at the time," Kylie replies.
Argent wrote:Later Argent finds Kylie all alone and it appears that she's been sobbing. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what has transpired. Argent will give her friend a reassuring hug. "It's okay, Kylie. All part of growing up. I take it what we talked about went badly. Do you want to discuss it? Is there anything I can do?"
Kylie attempts to wipe away her tears. She doesn't want her friend to see her crying. "No. Uh... maybe." Kylie pauses. "You were right; he seemed not to understand anything of my life, and his was very foreign to me as well. He also made it clear that women have no place in his life right now.

"What was worse was that though he finds many women attractive, it was apparent that I was not one of them. It is obvious that he could never see me as anything more than perhaps a little sister." The last words come out with a bitterness that even Argent has never heard from her.

Kylie actually seems to enjoy the first day of the ride. The weather is pleasant and there is little to bother them. She talks cheerfully with the other riders near her, particularly the other mages on subjects of interest to such a group.

An easy day ends with a comfortable night in Jallarzi's dwelling. The next day however starts with the unpleasant appearance of the mist that they had encountered previously. For some reason, this sours her mood substantially, and she rides quietly.

Some few hours later, Jallarzi reports that they have reached their first real opposition. Validar gives out his orders, and Kylie rides over to join Sherwood and the rest of her group. "Okay, Sherwood, I'm here. Any other instructions?" Kylie pulls her bow from her back and strings it expertly. She then nocks and arrow and prepares for combat.
________________________________________________________
Based on the information provided by Sherwood, Kylie will adjust her spell list slightly. For the first two days of the trip, Gaze Reflection will be substituted for one of the Magic Missiles, and Aganazzar's Scorcher will be taken in place of Vocalize.

"I have no doubt that finding your sister is a top priority for you, my lady. Hopefulyl we will have some positive resolution soon. If she succumbed to the vile effects of the Black Water, as many adventurers have apparently done, then when we complete our mission, she should be back to normal, from what Sherwood and Elspeth say. Without that, it would be extremely dangerous to approach Ardelphia at this time."

"Whether you consider my presense trying or not is, of course, up to you," Grondar says with a mischievous grin. "Still, I agree that we can achieve much more together than separately, and that is the true goal."

"Indeed it is. There are not many who can stand alone against the tideof evil in this world. But like the strength of a tri-corded rope, a group bonded together can be unbeatable."

Grondar listens as Sherwood addresses the group. Mulling over what is said, he comes upon a question. "Sherwood? So we don't expect to actually reach the shrine until the third day? I'm afraid the exact timetable wasn't clear to me previously."

Validar decides to field this question, if only to try another way to state the timetable. "Indeed your assessment is correct, Grondar. Normal travel time is about one and a half days ride straight north, near the foothills of the mountains. With the need to be warry of basilisks and possible ambushes, our travels may be a little slower. We should reach the swamp by the end of the second day, with some time for initial reconaissance and the move on the shrine on the third day."

At the battle:
(It was my assumption that we had decided that Sherwood and Jallarzi would be the leaders of the other two groups at this time.)

Lyonessa - "I have a Hypnotism spell at the ready Validar as I lack the power for Dispels. The Hypotism should be just as valuable if my recent success with it bears remembering." Lyonessa will then move to an advantageous position.

"Very good. Use it on the targets you choose," Validar will simply say. The more of the riders we can inconvenience the better, before we need to strike with steel.

Acerion

Acerion:

Those outside the spell conference relax and chat amongst themselves. Swanny and Acerion engage in practice swordplay. Swanny is slightly more skilled at battling with two weapons, but Acerion does more than hold his own.

Acerion is impressed with the woman's skill, which only presses him to try harder. He is attentive and watches her style as he manages to keep all but a few of her practice blows from connecting. By the time the practice is concluded, Acerion is quite spent. Before retiring, he nods respectfully to Swanny and says, "I shall sleep soundly tonight. Thank you for such a vigorous workout."

The next day is quite bright with the clear skies, which Acerion takes as a good sign to start their journey. He will engage in light conversation with Corley, Argent and any others nearby who wish to as they ride throughout the day. That evening, he will seek out Ivy's company since the two have had little time to talk.

"Things have been quite time consuming of late, fair Ivy, and although we have not been able to share much time, you have been a constant companion in my thoughts," he will say with a sincere look upon his face. "It has been a pleasant ride today, has it not? Times such as these make having to contend with life-threatening perils a bit easier to overcome." The paladin will continue to speak with her until interrupted or whenever sleep demands their attention.

As the ride progresses Beleme Swamp comes closer into view. A strange haze hangs over the swamp, much like it did at Rennydale. It makes the riders even more apprehensive about approaching. Lord Acerion can feel the malevolence rising from the swamp even this far out.

The next day begins with a more ominous tone and Acerion seems visibly disturbed. He remains quite somber throughout the day until word reaches them from Jallarzi that a group of basilisks lurks ahead, along with riders. Acerion is a bit astonished at the news, but quickly secures his helmet and positions himself for the coming battle. He pats his warhorse and sits waiting for an opportunity to charge should the magical attacks planned against our foes not prove fruitful enough.

Basilisks ahead but how far!!!

Post by Laucian »

Laucian

Laucian Listens to the itenerary of the next day. As he does so he notes the fact that Jallazari and Kharyna are both indeed going to be riding Griffons above us. He wonders how they will control such beasts from their perfered food. He's soon put at ease as it is said that they will be conjured.

Sherwood--
"We'll stop once we reach the swamp and we'll scout out what we can from overhead. We'll move a little ways inside the swamp and then camp for the night. Next day we march on the shrine."

An Idea comes to his mind and he soon voices it. "Wouldn't be wise to bring some severed branches or bushes with us? By doing so we may be able to mislead their scouts by covering our own tracks. It would not bode well to awaken to an ambush...."

He goes to his room and goes through his daily practices and falls asleep. He awakes early the next day gathering his gear methodically and checking everything twice over. Once pleased he heads down to breakfast and converses with those awake.

Upon reuniting with their mounts He strokes Starfire's flanks and soon stows his gear and mounts up. He watches Jallazri summon/conjure up two griffon steeds and soon his mount begins to move unsteadily beneath him. He will speak soothingly to it and it begins to calm down.

Upon riding the next day all goes well but Laucian still watches the horizon for movement. He soon spots Jallazari as she flies closer. She hovers overhead and tells of her scouting.

--"There is a pack of six basilisks up ahead. Unlike the ones we spotted yesterday, these ones have riders! Adventurers with swords from the looks of them. Perhaps they are under the influence of the black water. How do you want to proceed from here?"

Drawing his bow he strings it and knocks an arrow(+1) to his bow. He looks to Validar for direction--"Spread out! We should try to incapacitate the riders and destroy the mounts. Spellcasters! Concentrate on Magic Missiles on the basilisks and remove the riders as best you can. Clerics, try a Dispel to see if we can free them."
Archers! Concentrate on the basilisks as well. They are the true threat. Try to identify any spellcasters! Target them as well!"--

Apparently Validar may have overlooked a slight point and He will turn to Jallazari, "How far are they(range wise)? And do you know if you were seen?"

He will line up with the other archers and wait for the conflict to begin targeting the first available Basilisk at maximum range(with any enchanted arrows he has left)

Going to go by his prior "non swamp" spell list

Chareos

Jallazri--"Lord Validar is correct, Chareos," Jallarzi adds. "My apologies for not being more clear."

"It is of a small matter, Lady Jallazri." he says with a smile." The fault is mine as well."

While mounted with the others he watches as Jallazari summons two griffons to her and Kharyna's aid. As the majestic beasts take flight as he watches in awe.

Chareos will talk with those around him in various conversations as they ride. He soon finds himself listening to Lyonessa's song and hums along as he learns the beat. It soon comes time for the halt of the day and Chareos is thankful as his bottom was begining to be rather sore. He sits at the tables studying his books and making small mental notes within his head.

The next day comes rather fast to the young mage and he mounts up without a fuss. He rides and hums to himself the balad that Lyonessa played at the inn.

When Jallazari comes calling Chareos listens as Validar's voice soon barks orders. He takes up his position with his Wand of lighting in one hand and his magic missile in memory at the tip of his tongue. When They come into range he will cast Magic Missile spell at one of the Basilisks

Sherra:
The sadness is visible in Talia's face as she tries to hold back her feelings. "Yes, I am sure we shall meet again somewhere."
Sherra is saddened despite her attempts to keep cheerful. She knows truly deep down that her and Talia will meet again but has no real way of convincing Talia of that right now.
Once underway, he chats amiably with Sherra and the others near him in the riding order. He will gladly work with her on mastering his language.
Sherra is glad to once again be on the move. She's never really been used to staying in one place for very long since her early childhood. Being in the company of people she has grown fond of makes the trip all the more enjoyable. Sherra will attempt to only speak to Grondar in Dwarven as long as it is just the two of them. If it is important matters concerning the group, or is a broader conversation, then she will slip back to the more common human tongue. Sherra figures there is no better way to completely learn a new language unless immersed in it.

After two days of travel there finally seems to be a group of adversaries that may prove formadible and so Validar gets everyone alert and prepared. Sherra draws her bow and notches a non-magical shaft. She doesn't have too many enchanted arrows remaining and would like to keep as many as possible should we need them for tougher foes. If her first volley proves ineffectial, then she will switch to the magical arrows, otherwise she continue to use normal shafts.

"Thank you, Argent," Kylie replies. "I really do appreciate your willingness to share."
Argent wrote:Argent will watch as Jallarzi summons griffons for herself and Kharyna. "Given the choice, I'd rather keep my distance from those things," Argent will say to Kylie. "Griffons have always made me nervous. Perhaps it's that they can bite your arm off with those beaks! Give me a fly spell any day."
Kylie laughs. "You know, I'm just the opposite... sort of. I actually like the griffons, and used to hang out in Jallarzi's stables whenever I got the chance. It's the idea of flying on one of them that makes me queasy. Still not sure how well I'll take to flying with a spell. I'll probably have to work up to it very slowly."

Before they set out, Kylie makes sure to refill her arrow supplies from the extras that Sherwood provided.

"Ahh, I had assumed that since it was only a day and a half to the swamp, that we would push on to the shrine the same day," Grondar replies. "However, I think stopping is actually a better day. That way, we'll be fresh and ready for the final confrontation."

While I believe Jallarzi's wonderful resting place is invisible from the outside, it does seem likely that someone with the right skills might notice that our trails seemed to just vanish at that point and figure out what happened. Could be worth trying to make it less obvious."

"You're coming along quite well there, Sherra," Grondar says in Dwarven to the young lady. He is impressed by her ability to carry on a conversation so soon. While her grammar is still rough and her vocabulary is limited, she's able to make herself understood and appears to be learning very quickly.

Chareos

Backing up a bit

After the spell casters meeting Chareos takes a seat and begins to relax for a while. As he does so, while reading his tomes, He notices Lord Validar making his rounds visiting several of his comrades. He overhears him speaking to the others of their future intentions after the coming battle.

Chareos debates his options in his head as well as his reply, yet Lord Validar does not approach him. He looks sullen for a time as he thinks of what he may have done wrong but he cannot think of anything. He will have to ask Validar what he has done to earn this disapproval.

During the ride the next day Chareos is rather quiet while he thinks to himself. When the column comes to a halt he approaches Validar and asks, "Pardon my intrusion," As he watchs Val tend to Havok, "But may I have a moment of your time?"

"Have I wronged you in some way my Lord?" looking into his eyes and seeing the confusion at his remark. "I couldn't help but notice that you spoke to all the others yet overlooked me. I do not understand what I may have done to have you look on me in displeasure. Though tell me what it is so that I may improve myself."

A look of uncertainty comes across his face," Though, if you do not require my services any longer I will understand."

When the procession comes to a halt, Lilia will listen to hear the conversation between Jallarzi and the leaders. Seems that more basilisk lie ahead. Given the sheer number of spell casters present, there is little reason for Lilia to waste her magic at this point.

The Elf Maiden will have her bow ready to fire as needed.

Lord Corley

Post by Corley »

Corley:

The young noble's face will become a bit reddened as Lord Validar gives his opinion on just what transpired with Lady Kylie. "Marriage? Lady Kylie and myself? I must admit that I am surprised and yet confused by all of this. She's certainly a desirable young woman… I thought she was just being friendly since we talked numerous times during the trip. I really don't know what to think."

Words fail Lord Corley at this point as he tries to sort out his feelings. He's really not even sure just what to say to her at this point. Apparently he's unknowingly hurt her feelings. Guilt gnaws at the young man and he can barely look at Lady Kylie the next day. Corley is unusually quiet during the ride northward. The talents of Lyonessa do help relieve Corley's anxiety somewhat and puts him into a better mood.

Validar wrote:"Hold for the moment, Lord Corley! Allow the others to do their tasks. Then when the moment is right, we will ride them down and vanquish them all!"
Corley grips his reigns tightly, but manages to keep from charging. He'll wait until the command is given to advance.

Argent:
Lord Validar wrote:"Save your fireballs for riderless basilisks, my lady. The men may belong to Lord Cavius or be otherwise under the evil influence we face! Try to incapacitate them without killing them."
"As you wish Lord Validar."

Argent will surge forward and close in on the basilisks, staying well above them. She'll fire Magic Missiles as she closes in, targeting the right most basilisk until it falls. Once that is done, she'll cast her Dispel Magic at the riders in an attempt to release them.

Lyonessa wrote:"Well met, Argent.
"As you wish, Songstress. We can make the attempt after the business in the swamp is completed."
Kylie attempts to wipe away her tears. She doesn't want her friend to see her crying. "No. Uh... maybe." Kylie pauses. "You were right; he seemed not to understand anything of my life, and his was very foreign to me as well. He also made it clear that women have no place in his life right now."
"I'm so sorry, Kylie. I almost wish I never brought the subject up earlier. Men don't think the way we girls do, Kylie. They're always looking for excitement and some monster to vanquish. They're not thinking about settling down and having families, at least at Corley's age, so that doesn't come as a surprise to me."
Kylie wrote:"What was worse was that though he finds many women attractive, it was apparent that I was not one of them. It is obvious that he could never see me as anything more than perhaps a little sister." The last words come out with a bitterness that even Argent has never heard from her.
"That cad!", Argent says in shock, anger showing on her own face. "I may have to just give him a peace of my mind! How rude!"

Stalking off, Argent seeks out Lord Corley only to find him speaking with Lord Validar about the same subject. The invoker catches the end of the conversation and her own anger begins to subside a bit. Apparently Lord Corley is something of a novice when it comes to romance. It is always good to hear both sides of the story at times.

Once Lord Corley has departed, Argent will step up to Lord Validar. "Evening, Lord Validar. I couldn’t help but overhear what you were speaking about. I must confess that I just came from speaking with Kylie. She's rather upset about this and I was going to give Lord Corley a piece of my mind. Now I'm not sure what I should do. Kylie is my friend, just as Lord Corley is yours. At the moment I'm not really sure what to do about this situation. My meddling may just make matters worse. I gather that Lord Corley is somewhat, shall we say inexperienced when it comes to pursuits of the heart? So tell me, Lord Validar, do you think our friends have any future together?"

"Thank you, Argent," Kylie replies. "I really do appreciate your willingness to share."
"It is to the benefit of everyone in the group to have as many tools at their disposal as possible. If I give you a spell that helps us succeed, then we all win. So in a certain sense, I am helping myself by giving to others."

"You've got more courage than me, in this instance. I stayed well away from the griffon stables. Fly is quite easy to use. Not any more complicated than walking actually and requires just as much concentration."
I am an Invoker of no small power.

Sherwood:
Grondar listens as Sherwood addresses the group. Mulling over what is said, he comes upon a question. "Sherwood? So we don't expect to actually reach the shrine until the third day? I'm afraid the exact timetable wasn't clear to me previously."
"It may have come up earlier in private conversation, Grondar. My apologies for not being clearer. Since we expect to encounter the basilisks on the second day before reaching the swamp, fire magic will most likely be used to defeat them. It makes sense to rest once in the swamp so the spellcasters can retool their spells to what was discussed with Jallarzi."

"That is correct, Kylie. As I stated earlier when asked, fire magic should be avoided while in the swamp. However it is prudent to carry it before reaching the swamp. You can make the change over after we're done with the basilisks and in the swamp."

"Cast your Magic Missiles before switching over to your bow, Kylie. Target only the basilisks at this point. It may be prudent to concentrate fire on only one target with the other archers. Take it down before moving on to the next."

Sherwood will cast his Polyself and rise up into the air as a harpy. Once in range, he'll cast Dispel Magic attempting to free any riders who are under the influence of the black water. Magic Missiles will be cast next targeting the basilisks.

Laucian wrote:An Idea comes to his mind and he soon voices it. "Wouldn't be wise to bring some severed branches or bushes with us? By doing so we may be able to mislead their scouts by covering our own tracks. It would not bode well to awaken to an ambush...."

Ivy can't help but blush at Lord Acerion's words. "What a very nice thing to say, Lord Acerion. I must confess that you're never far from my own thoughts as well, so I share the sentiment. I must admit that I had only joined this adventure to help stem the tide of evil. I never imagined that I would ever be in the company of a man such as yourself."

Ivy will look away for a moment, as if gathering the courage to continue speaking. "A man that I would happily give my heart to and spend the rest of my life with. Should he desire such a thing, of course. Assuming that I'm not speaking out of turn. I mean, I know that you are a noble and I'm not so I would understand if your heart belonged to another. But I don't think you the type of man to play such games at my expense."

"Look at me, babbling like this like some child. Flushed and feeling vulnerable. If only there were some undead around to bash. Perhaps that would clear my head."

At the battle:

"I have a Dispel Magic at the ready, Lord Validar. However, I must get closer in order to catch them in its area of effect."

If Lord Validar wishes it, Ivy will ride close enough to get her spell off.

Apparently Validar may have over looked a slight point and He will turn to Jallarzi," How far are they(range wise)? And do you know if you were seen?"
The basilisks are at a range of 500-600 yards, so they have not spotted the main group yet. Those on the griffons were spotted. (Kind of hard to miss actually!)

Acerion will be quite astonished to hear Ivy's words, although the shock is accompanied by an increased pounding of his heart. Lost in her words for a moment, he finally replies, "No, my heart does not belong to another, although if I give my grandmother too much time she might give it away for me." Acerion will laugh even though he knows she is probably looking in Alexandria right now for a suitable wife for him.

"I had originally not put much thought into pursuing affairs of the heart as my goal is the liberation of my people's home. That is, of course, when such things happen though, isn't it? When one isn't looking for them." Acerion will turn to face Ivy, his eyes focused on hers and he raises a hand to brush some hair from her face.

"I would not play games at your, or any woman's, expense. I have been raised that all women should be treated with dignity and respect, but with you there is a special place within my heart where you have taken up residence. Do not feel vulnerable sweet Ivy, for I will never allow harm to come to you as long as I breathe."

A playful smile comes across Acerion's face forcing him to give pause before he can continue, "And as far as the blush upon your skin, I do not mind it at all, especially when I am close. The heat of it warms me in ways you can not fathom."

GWENITH -

We all gather in the courtyard and Jallazri soon utters some foreign words. A shimmering door comes into existence and we are ushered forward. "To wield such power, yet the time to learn its secrets are too great," she thinks to herself.

Walking into the dwelling she finds herself impressed as she lets out a low whistle. She is somewhat used to similiar surroundings but nothing so eccentric. She stows her gear within her room, where she removes her armor and scabbard and sees to servicing them.

Heading down to the common area her comrades can see she has forgone her armor and weapon. In their place a bright emerald dress of moderate manufacture excentuates her athletic features. Her reddish hair cascades down the left side of her neck where a simple pendant lays.

She seats herself with the others and converses on various topics when the sound of crashing steel catches her attention. In the clearing of the room Swammy and Acerion are exchanging blows.

Watching the exchange she slowly subconcously begins to note their forms of style. In her estimation Swammy seems to have the better form for Acerion holds his scimitar a little low leaving his opponent a slight opening.

When the pair are done sparing she will approach them. "Well fought comrades," She says with an easy grin. "Your skills with dual blades are very impressive. Perhaps later on in our travels either of you would wish to test my mettle and steel?" Her easy grin begins to turn into a playful smile.

Later on in the evening Lord Validar approaches her, speaking of thanks and leading their party to the swamp.
"It is of a small matter, Lord Validar. It is the Least I can do to help eradicate this evil that plagues my beloved home." She pauses for a moment thinking, "I can hardly wait to draw their blood and send them back to the depths of the darkness in which they spawned."

On the way to the swamp Gwenith will ride near the front giving Sherwood and his scouts directions and advice to the best way to approach the swamp.

On the second day of travel she watches Jallazari conjure two griffons to her aid. "What magestic creatures." and she barely overhears Argent speaking of thier abilities. She will turn to the invoker and say, "Only if you do not deal with them first."

When Lord Validar starts telling the others what to do Gwen almost begins to bark out orders as she was accustomed to but quickly holds her tongue. She approaches Lord Validar and says, "I am trained with a crossbow as well where would I best serve?"

She will draw her crossbow and knock an arrow to it and await further instructions.

Acerion:

backing up a bit:

"Well fought comrades,"She says with an easy grin,"Your skills withdual blades are very impressive. Perhaps later on in our travels either of you would wish to test my mettle and steel?" Her easy grin begins to turn into a playful smile.

"Thank you lady Gwenith," Acerion will say with a slight bow and a bit short of breath. "I would welcome a test of your mettle and steel when next an opportunity presents itself. There is always something to be learned from every person and every style. My weapon of choice is the battle axe, but I do not wish to lose my abilities with other weapons, prefering instead to improve my proficiency. After all, who can tell what skills may be needed most upon the field?"

Validar -

The young noble's face will become a bit reddened as Lord Validar gives his opinion on just what transpired with Lady Kylie. "Marriage? Lady Kylie and myself? I must admit that I am surprised and yet confused by all of this. She's certainly a desirable young woman… I thought she was just being friendly since we talked numerous times during the trip. I really don't know what to think."

"Well, I think you may be jumping the gun a bit when you speak of marriage, but usually such amorous interests do tend to eventually move in that direction. I can understand your confusion. Having something like this hit you from a compleetly unexpected direction is not easy. My advice is to treat Kylie the way you have with kindness and consideration and see if you develop any feelings for her. There is no rule that states you must be interested in everyone who is interested in you. On the other hand, you never know where love will spring up. Do not think you need to make a decision on this immediately."

Validar will put his hand on his friend's shoulder and try to perk up his spirits. "Better to be sought after by the women, than to be ignored by them, eh? Don't trouble yourself too much right now. And remember we have a battle to fight in a few days. That will always take away the anxiety of the mind."

Validar watches his good friend shuffle off with a good deal on his mind. A moment later another of the Guardians approaches.

"Hello, Argent. Yes, it appears that we have a matter of the heart here and those are much more difficult to sort out than battles with dragons, demons or evil empires."

"I think we can try to do too much and the situation will just get worse. Lord Corley is not certain of his feelings, and to my knowledge he has not had any serious relationships with women. Experienced? Yes, indeed. Lord Corley is a good man, but he seems to think rather simply and focuses on one thing at a time. Now he is trying to earn his father's respect by adventuring and battling and going on quests. He may have interest in the yound lady, but I do not see anything serious developing right away. In the future, who can say."

"The one thing that concerns be however is the young lady's upbringing and past. The poor of Elcadan have come to hate nobles in general. Can Kylie adjust her life to living in such a state? Perhaps. And it would be easier than asking Lord Corley to abdicate his title and family. Would General Logan and his wife accept a commoner as a wife for their son. Under the right conditions and a situation of true love, I think they would. I am concerned however about their disparate lifestyles. Ultimately, I think Kylie would have to undergo many changes. If she could do so and with some more maturity, well, anything is possible. What do you think?"

Validar is confused by Chareos demeanor at first, then listens at the young fighter/mage explains himself. Before answering, Validar thinks back for a moment and indeed it seems that he has in fact left him out of the talks.

"I apologize, my friend, Chareos. In truth you have done nothing wrong, nor earned any disfavor. It seems merely that I managed to miss talking with you before we left. Had there not been some of this group that I knew were not continuing on after the battle in the swamp is completed, I would have simply collected everyone together. Please accept my apologies for the gross oversight. We would be pleased if you continued to ride with us."

At the battlesite:

The group starts to disperse and form up into groups. The fighters form a line while the archers and spellcasters move into position. Some take to the air for a better vanatage point.

"Keep in contact with each other and those who are airborne, let us know what they are doing!"

Ivy - "I have a Dispel Magic at the ready, Lord Validar. However, I must get closer in order to catch them in its area of effect."

"Very well. We will move forward on the advance." Validar waves his arm to signal everyone forward. The riders move forward in a line, ready to attack, giving Ivy and some others the ability to cast their spells at closer range. He waves the archers forward on one flank to give them access to fire their weapons even as they charge.

VALIDAR -

Seems I missed two posts earlier...

Later on in the evening Lord Validar approaches her, speaking of thanks and leading their party to the swamp.

"That is the kind of spirit we appreciate, Captain Gwenith. I am certain that you will earn much glory and honor battling at our side as we cleanse this blighted swamp."

"I hope to win this battle with ranged weapons and magic, Captain. Therefore you should join the missile forces on the flank." Validar will indicate where ones such as Arocken, Sherra, Laucian and others are spreading out to gain lines of fire to the enemy. "The basilisks are the true threat and are to be targeted first. We can battle the riders easily enough when the mounts are no longer a danger."

Chareos

As Orders are issued Chareos notes that several of the other mages/clerics make it plainly aware to try to dispel the riders back to their normal state. Seeing no need to waste a dispel spell at this point he will hold it into reserve and Cast a Magic Missile at the right-most Basilisk.

A look of relief comes over the mage as he begins to smile. "Perhaps I jumped to conclusions too hastily. It would be my pleasure to continue riding with the Guardians of Light. I could not have wished for a better group of individuals."

"We were both mistaken in our own ways my friend I offer my apologizes as well."

Kylie--
"Aye they are." he says with a smile," I am just grateful we have not had to face such a foe."

Validar offers his hand to the fighter/mage. "The matter is ended. Let us forget it ever happened. The Guardians of Light have much to accomplish. Though the road may be frought with dangers and death, we will oppose every enemy of Cynalon, with wits, brawn, magick and cold steel."

KHARYNA -

Kharyna is pleased to hear about the undead destructive abilities of Ivy and especially Elspeth. Kharyna is no slouch in that department herself, but clerical magicks was always a weakpoint of their group.

Swanny follows everyone into the magical house and is suitably awed.

"Whoa! Now this is what I call traveling in style! So, how long until we get one of these?" That last question was directed at Kharyna.

"It will be quite some time I am afraid. This construct takes lots of studying and ability. I won't be casting something like this for many years, if ever."

"Very nice", Argent will say in appreciation of the fine Staff of Power. "While I don't have anything quite that potent, I do have some unusual items. One of my rings is a Ring of Magic Resistance that can completely protect me from some spells. The amulet is a Necklace of Adaptation allowing me to breath even when I normally could not. My earrings are also magical. With them, I can understand any spoken language. I can't respond back in the language, just listen. I also have a Crystal Ball."

"Some useful items, there, Argent. I am hoping we'll find much more as we continue to explore the dungeons on the Towers of Gaz site."

"On that we are in complete agreement", Argent will say with a laugh. "Check this out."

Reaching into one of her Bags of Holding, Argent will pull out a gem incrusted tiara. "Just a little trinket I found. A bit too much to wear for regular occasions."

"Yeah, that's a bit ostentatious. Not something to wear while adventuring," she says with a laugh. "But quite beautiful and I am sure very expensive."

"My most expensive trinket I wear is this anklet," Kharyna will say indicating one which she wears on her right ankle. It is platinum and set with sapphires. "It's Wizard Locked so that it cannot be stolen. Not that it would be easy to get without my knowledge. Most of the items I have I wear or have sold off for art and such valuables."

"Ah, that'll teach me to make assumptions", Argent laughs in response. "Well just because he's tall, handsome, and muscular is no reason to find him attractive. What am I saying? Of course those are very good reasons to find him attractive! Being a undoubtedly rich noble certainly doesn't hurt."

"That is true. Unfortunately, our paths take us in different directions or I would be interested in getting to know him better. Maybe when the Tower site is cleared I will have more time for romance."

"Sure, I would be interested in him, but I'm interested in several of the others as well. I merely didn't want to come between you two is all. I'm not that type of girl. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to be with him. We shall see what comes to pass."

"Good luck," Kharyna responds. "And knowing you, good luck to Lord Validar as well," she adds with a playful smile. "Your list of ex-suitors has grown since we last spoke I am sure."

"You know, we are definitely too much alike Kharyna! It's probably a good thing that we don't adventure together that often. We would both want to same treasures we would find!"

"That is true. Way too much competition. I wish you the best in your travels and if you ever need us, we'll probably be around the Towers of Gaz for a good long time."

On the day of moving out toward the swamp, Kharyna watches as Jallarzi creates their mounts. Kharyna steps into the saddle and straps herself in. "This will be so much less dangerous now that I have a Fly spell," she will say with a chuckle. In moments the two are winging their way into the morning air.

The first day is relatively uneventful. They each only see one basilisk and from the air. they are easily destroyed before they can react. A fireball to do most of the damage and a Magic Missile to finish them off.

The haze of the swamp does not faze Kharyna. She has battled other minions of the gods and is in direct opposition with two of them now in the Towers of Gaz. Eventually more basilisks are seen and these carry riders.

Since Jallarzi has decided to wing back to the others to report, Kharyna follows at a slight distance, but also at altitude to keep an eye on the enemy and keep them in sight. She flies high enough to avoid most ranged spells. She is trying to determine if they are all soldiers or clerics or if any are spellcasters.

If Jallarzi gives her the go ahead to attack after her conversation with Lord Validar and the others, she will come in from the left flank and attack with magick, depending on what she can see about them.
