The meetings and plannings continue at Castle Cavius. After dinner, Jallarzi will gather everyone together in Lord Cavius' throne room. There, she casts her magical shelter spell. Those who have the ability to check will find that the spell in question is a combination of abjuration and conjuration magic.
An area roughly the size of a door (about 4' wide by 8' high) shimmers before Lady Sallavarian. At Jallarzi's direction, the door opens and a vast chamber can be seen on the other side. "Welcome to my humble traveling abode", Jallarzi says as she directs everyone to enter. "Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion."
Passing through the magical door, you enter into a huge foyer. Unlike the shelter spells used by both Sherwood and Kharyna that gives you the feeling of a cabin, this construct is truly a mansion.
The floor is darkly varnished wood as is the trim. The ceilings are high and vaulted and several pieces of artwork (busts, vases, and paintings) line the walls. The place is sparkling clean, smells pleasant, and is quite comfortable.
Passing through the foyer you arrive into a large chamber. A grand staircase leads up to a second floor and two doors lead out of this room on this level. A huge chandelier hangs overhead, providing illumination. More lights in wall scones provide additional lighting.
What immediately attracts your attention is that an entire staff of servants is waiting for you. However, they are transparent and can be seen right through!
Jallarzi leads the way into the mansion. "The staff is what we mages call Unseen Servants. They are magical creations that will cater to your every whim. Otherwise, they are harmless and obedient. Just treat them like normal servants."
"Your sleeping quarters are on the second floor. Each of you has your own room and your name is on the door plate. Boys to the left of the stairs, girls to the right."
Pointing to one of the two doors Jallarzi will say, "That's the dining hall. You will find a vast spread of food laid out there. However, I would advise that no one partakes of the fare. While it will taste delicious and seem filling, it's only an illusion. It will vanish after you leave the Mansion and ravenous hunger may set in."
"The other door leads to a large sitting area. If the spellcasters among you will accompany me, we'll begin our discussions on spells."
Once everyone who is interested in this has settled in, Jallarzi will continue.
"You've each been instructed in your magicks and how to make the most of them. You have a spell selection containing offensive and defensive magicks, along with complementary spells. However, you may not have been trained on how to function as a large group of spellcasters. Some mages are better at certain types of magic than others. For example, Argent is an Invoker and is better at combat spells. Her entire spell list should be set up for combat and a few personal defensive spells. Other mages should carry more complementary spells and so on. The idea is to apply a good spell selection to an entire group instead of an individual."
"Let's go around the room. Tell me what spells you plan to have in memory and your reasons for choosing that spell."

Grondar:
After dinner, Grondar spends some time in worship and contemplation. Receiving the summons to the throne room, Grondar arrives just in time to get in on Jallarzi's impromptu tour. He grins and murmurs to himself in appreciation of the fine conjured lodging as he wanders about to examine everything.
"Jallarzi! What a grand residence you have here! Would that we could enjoy its luxuries all of the time." Treading upstairs, Grondar locates the room with his name on the door and enters. He pauses a moment to test the bed and finds it quite to his liking. Leaving his gear in the room, he returns to the ground floor to join the other spellcasters in the sitting room.
"First off, Cavius said that the main encounters would likely be with zombies and perhaps other undead. Thus, I plan to ask Berronar for: Invisibility to Undead, Protection From Evil, Remove Fear, Restore Strength and Negative Plane Protection. This should provide a variety of options for dealing with situations involving undead.
"Command and Hold Person are intended for use on this Lord of Corruption or any non-undead lackies he may have. A Silence 15' Radius is particularly intended for taking his spell-casting abilities away. Similarly, Dispel Magic can be used to counter his spells or to try to release him or others from the hold of the black water.
"Aid is good for using on anyone entering combat. Also, since we will be in a swamp, I figure there may be a need to deal with poison, so a Hold Poison may prove handy."
"Ahh... I understand," Grondar replies. "It must have been quite unpleasant being locked up like that. As a dwarf, I'm probably more attuned to enclosed places than others, but still have that need for freedom and the ability to move about as I choose. And there is always a certain excitement in beginning a new task in life. Still, it is a task that bears considerable danger. However, I think we all are committed to keep one another alive."Gwenith wrote:Gwenith smiles at Grondar and replies "Hello my dwarfen friend, I am so excited to set out on this journey and to be honest from all my days in the dungeon Im ready to get back out there and feel the wind on my face." " I am hoping this journey is a safe one for us all ."

Kylie:
After dinner, Kylie watches as Jallarzi creates her magical domicile, paying more attention to the casting than the results. Having been mentored by Jallarzi, Kylie has seen this before when they have travelled together for training purposes. Still, she is always impressed by just how nice it is.
"Jump and Alter Self give me some mobility and flexibility. Detect Invisibility seems like a good spell to have just in case, if you know what I mean. I don't know if there are any types of invisible undead, but maybe this Lord of Corruption or one of his henchman can become invisible.
"What do you recommend in the way of changes?"
Kylie whistles. "Amazing! That sounds like a great item to have! I'll have to keep my eyes out for something like it in the future."Chareos wrote:He will pull forth his Ioun stone from his pocket and show her it. If she recognizes it he will say nothing but if she does not he will speak of its properties."This stone allows the user additional spells in a sense. Kylie listens at Grondar reviews his choices, then volunteers her own. "Well, I thought I'd try to get a good variety of effects. For attacks, I thought I'd go with: Color Spray, Magic Missile, Sleep and Web. I have more experience with Burning Hands than with Color Spray, but Cavius said we should avoid flame. Unfortunately, I don't really have anything that's particularly useful against undead," she says, glancing over at Grondar. "Shield and Blur are for defense; I'd really like to live through this.Once everyone who is interested in this has settled in, Jallarzi will continue.

Chareos
After eating his fair share of dinner, Chareos hears that Jallazari soon calls for everyone to gather near here with our gear. She casts a spell and a doorway appears before them. She asks them to please go inside as this will be their sleep quarters for the night.
As he walks in a gasp of astonishment leaves his mouth and he says," Outstanding!" and moves to inspect some of his surroundings. She calls for our attention and makes it known that each room for us is marked by our name, as well as a meeting starts shortly there after.
"I will be there momenteraly, Jallazari." Taking his gear he will head in the direction of his room and find it when he sees his name engraved on the plate. He runs a hand across the writing and a smile crosses his lips. "One could get used to this." he mutters to himself as he checks out his room and stows his gear.
Afterward he heads down to the spellcasters meeting and sits and listens to the other mages suggestions for spells etc.
After hearing Grondar and Kylie he speaks of his intended spells. He soons reveals his intended spells with the explanation for using them.
"For offensive purposes I have chosen Magic Missile,Color Spray, Web, Lightning Bolt as well as a Flaming Sphere in my Ioun stone. As for defensive purposes I have Mirror Image, Shield, Cat's Grace and Gust of Wind. I was also planning on memorizing Dispel Magic, Lasting Breath and Wraith Form to perhaps be used as a means of scouting...."

VALIDAR -
Validar will thank Jallarzi for the opulent sleeping quarters. "No disrespect to the substantial talents of Sherwood and Kharyna, but this is truly a fitting place for resting and recouperating. Very nice. Your efforts will surely be appreciated by all."
Validar will attend the spellcasters meeting, for informational purposes and sit quietly near the rear of the room. He listens intently and commits the conversatios to memory. Some of the spells mentioned are very familiar, some he has heard talk about and knows the basic details and a good many of them are only speculative at best. "Knowledge is power," the young noble thinks to himself.
Later, Validar settle into his own quarters and then will take time to meet with various members of the group, chatting about the upcoming attack and the events yet to come once this mission is completed.

KHARYNA -
Kharyna has seen the mansion before and it dwarfs her own abilities at this time. However, she does not let this bother her, rather, she looks forward to being able to do the same herself one day soon.
After finding her room and getting things ready, she will meet with the others for the spellcasting gathering. There she sees Lord Validar already there and waiting. She smiles warmly at him and takes a seat near him. "Good to see you, Lord Validar. I was not expecting you."
When Grondar, Kylie and Chareos finish, Kharyna stands up and moves to the front of the group. "As I am both a devoted follower of Mystra as well as a learner of arcane magicks, I have both types of spells at my disposal."
"Those spells granted by Mystra include the ability to Detect Magic multiple times, as well as Dispel Magic, Protection from Evil, Invisibility to Undead and Negative Plane Protection. I also have some offensive spells in a couple Hold Persons, Web, and Magic Missile. Some other useful potentials are Wall of Fog to obscure our movement and a Silence 15' radius, much as Grondar has."
"I tend to make my learned spells more offensive, but with the prohibition on Fire-based spells, I will have a couple more Magic Missiles, Two Lightning Bolts, a Dispel Magic, Sleep and an Ice Storm. For suplemental use, I have a Wall of Ice, Read Magic and Knock, in case we need to get into somewhere blocked to us."
"My defensive spells include Mirror Image, Levitate, Invisibilit, Feather Fall and I have a Stone Skin in place. I prefer to be a little more direct in my spell selections rather than hope for possible contingencies to happen. I hate to waste spell slots on something that doesn't end up getting used."
"There are a number of spells that various mages seem to like to employ that I generally do not use: Color Spray, too unlikely to work on those you really want it to; Burning Hands, spreading Magic Missiles can do more damage or else use a Sleep in most cases; Chill Touch, nowhere near enough damage; Shocking Grasp, you have to touch and then not much damage, I can smack someone with my mace and do the same; Flaming Sphere , moves too slow for me; Ray of Enfeeblement, too likely to not work on a serious foe. There are others, but these don't seem to fit my personality and needs. What are some of your favorite or least favorite spells?" She directs this last question to the group as a whole.
"Also, I am curious if the idea is for us to go into the swamp as soon as the Basiliska are destroyed or if we intend to camp soon after."
Kharyna will then take her seat again and listen to the rest of the group.

Argent
Argent:
"That's fair enough. From the sounds of it this group will be adventuring in this part of Cynalon for a long time to come, so there is ample chance our paths will cross in the future."
"Then it seems to me that we should implement such a policy since you are both willing. As Chareos noted, all will benefit from it." Argent will reach into one of her bags of holding and pull out her own spell books. Both mages will note that it is something of an effort for the Invoker to handle her own tomes!
"Here are my spellbooks. As Chareos suggested, I'll skim the group spellbook first to see if there are new magicks to me in it."
As Argent pages through the book, she'll become more excited. "Oh, yes, very nice! There are few invocation magicks in here that I have yet to acquire. Very good!"
(I'll post the spells Argent will attempt to learn along with the contents of her own spellbooks in the spell thread.)
Later that evening, Argent will become a tad envious as Jallarzi's magical mansion. She can't even do the more simplistic cabin spells yet! "Now this is the way to travel in style. If only there was some way to stay inside while someone moves the door to your destination…"
When she reappears at the mage gather, Argent will have changed into a dark blue dress with silver trim. She wears a matching high collared cape and soft boots.
When her turn comes, Argent will run down her spell selection. "My current spell lists includes three Magic Missiles as I'm something of a specialist with that spell. I also carry Fireball, Lightning Bolt, and Burning Hands. Since Fire is a problem, I'm going to have to swap a few of those out. I'll probably replace Burning Hands with another Magic Missile and the Fireball with a second Lightning Bolt."
"My defensive spells include Protection from Evil and Mirror Image. I would consider Web a defensive spell as well. I primarily use Fly for mobility and carry a Feather Fall in case it is Dispelled or expires."
"I use Wizard Sight in place of Detect Magic as it has additional uses beyond that spell. Plus it gives me room for more Magic Missiles. The remainder of magicks include Vocalize for in case I encounter magical silence, Knock for locked doors, and finally Cantrip which is mainly for personal hygiene and appearances."
Afterwards, Argent will make a point to say hello to those people she has yet to speak to: Sherra, Gwenith, Swanny, Lyonessa, & Talia. She'll also say hello to Sherwood since it's been a long time since she's last seen him.
"I am very pleased to know that, Lord Acerion. Especially since I am something of a liability when it comes to combat by weapon. However, I do my best to keep out of harms way.""There is no need for apologies Argent, for I did not think you were implying anything," Acerion states. "I was merely letting you know my convictions to this group and this cause. It is pleasing to know you will be among us as well and my vow extends to include you."
A grin will come to Argent's face. "Why Lord Validar, I think we're going to get along splendidly. I wasn't aware I was actually being 'humble'. It's not really in my nature. As I've become more proficient in my spellcasting, my own confidence has grown by leaps and bounds."Jallarzi wrote:"I am certain that you do not simply dabble, milady. Knowing the Lady Sallavarian as I do, I am sure you are well equipped for magickal combat. No need to be humble. As for combat, we seem to have that aspect already well accounted for. Therefore, there is no need to trouble yourself on that front."
"I do not have the habit of making snap judgments that can be colored by one's own feelings. If anything I'm probably a bit more analytical and cold in my thought process. I'd rather think a situation through then rush to a false conclusion."Validar wrote:"I respect people who speak their mind, provided the bear the strength of those convictions. Too many have strong opinions that they cannot argue for or explain and too many have opinions that are quickly crushed when questioned. I do not mind having someone who can back up their feelings, in fact I welcome all of them."
"Well, then it seems that I am in good company", Argent will respond with an easy smile.Passing by, Grondar happens to catch the tail end of this conversation. "I wouldn't worry about that, Argent," Grondar says with a chuckle, "Validar gets plenty of that from me."
"When you mix in raw emotions you can pretty much throw logic out the window, Kylie. One's heart seldom listens to one's head after all. And there are things you can do to make an outcome less than random. It's just a matter of figuring out what you want and how far you're willing to go to get it."Kylie returns the hug. "You're right; perhaps I've been expecting too much. I just wish love was more logical; it seems so... random. Despite my profession, I'm not really a big fan of randomness and leaving things to luck. I don't generally play games of chance at all. One of the reasons I turned to magic was to help me push the odds in my direction as much as possible."
"Of course, Kylie. Let me know how things turn out. And if you want to talk, I'll be around."Kylie pauses to consider. "I appreciate the offer, Argent. Let me think about it a bit, okay?"
Kylie wrote:"That's wonderful! It will be so nice having you with us! I don't know how long I'll stay, but I will see this thing in the swamp through."
"That's fair enough. From the sounds of it this group will be adventuring in this part of Cynalon for a long time to come, so there is ample chance our paths will cross in the future."
Kylie pauses for a moment to try to recall what they have done in the past. "Well, it's not really very set yet. We started out with kind of an informal 'you can look at my book if I can look at yours' sort of thing. Since then, we've been moving toward a more open-book kind of policy, but I'm not sure we've really made if official yet. We do have a couple of acquired spell books that anyone can look at any time."
Argent soon asks of our Spell policy and Chareos will answer, "Well as of lately We have been swapping one spell for one. Yet I would be more in favor of the open book policy as we all can benefit from it. When we defeated a mage we acquired his tomes of magic. Master Sherwood and the rest of us decided that it would be owned by our group. If you would like to skim it you are welcome to, seeing how you are joining us for a time."
"Then it seems to me that we should implement such a policy since you are both willing. As Chareos noted, all will benefit from it." Argent will reach into one of her bags of holding and pull out her own spell books. Both mages will note that it is something of an effort for the Invoker to handle her own tomes!

Argent will listen as Kylie goes over her spells in memory. "It seems like a suitable selection in my estimation. Not necessarily the same ones I would have chosen, but you have a different set of skills then I do."Once the mage discussion winds down, Kylie puts forth a proposal. "I have given some thought to my selections for the morrow. Would anyone be interested in reviewing my choices and giving me feedback?"
"Then you have something to look forward to, Chareos. "Fireball and Lightning Bolt are among my favorite spells. I typically carry one of each in memory.""I recently learned some of the spells of which you speak though I have not had a chance to properly use them."
"Yes, I am familiar with Ioun Stones. However, I've not heard of this particular one before. I most definitely have to get myself one!""Though I was granted the use of a lightning wand that we acquired a few days past. There is one thing that I also use in my spell selection as well." He will pull forth his Ioun stone from his pocket and show her it. If she recognizes it he will say nothing but if she does not he will speak of its properties. "This stone allows the user additional spells in a sense. You merely have to cast a spell on it and it will retain that spell for a future time. It has come in handy in he past."

When she reappears at the mage gather, Argent will have changed into a dark blue dress with silver trim. She wears a matching high collared cape and soft boots.
Argent is mildly surprised to see Kharyna and Validar seated beside each other. "Well, this is an unexpected surprise. May I join you?" Argent will sit down on the other side of Validar. "So, did I miss anything yet?"Kharyna wrote:After finding her room and getting things ready, she will meet with the others for the spellcasting gathering.
"Magic Missile, Fireball, and Lightning Bolts are my favorite spells. Cantrip is very handy and has so many personal uses. I don't care for illusions as I am not subtle. I also don't care for spells that radically alter my form. That's about it."Kharyna wrote:"What are some of your favorite or least favorite spells?" She directs this last question to the group as a whole.
Afterwards, Argent will make a point to say hello to those people she has yet to speak to: Sherra, Gwenith, Swanny, Lyonessa, & Talia. She'll also say hello to Sherwood since it's been a long time since she's last seen him.

I am an Invoker of no small power.
Lord Corley
Corley:
Lord Corley will allow himself a small smile as he reminisces after a few shapely maidens in his mind.
"But clearly such things must wait. It is my duty to serve my king and help cleanse this land of the evil that plagues it. All other things must wait until that time."
Lord Corley is clearly impressed by the magical dwelling conjured by the Lady Sallavarian. "Most outstanding, Lady Sallavarian!" Corley will retrieve his armor from the guest room and place it inside the mansion. He is disappointed that the food in the manor is only an illusion as it smells wonderful and looks delicious!
Having little better to do, Corley will sit with the others not in the mage gathering. He can't help notice Lady Argent pass by having changed into a different dress. "Truly, the quality of Lady Sallavarian's apprentices cannot be denied!"
"It seems that we were raised quite different, Lady Kylie. I cannot imagine not being able to afford to eat. Probably no more than you can imagine living in a castle.""Ahh... I should have known," Kylie blushes, realizing that - of course - nobles would have people to do their cooking for them. Yet another reminder of the gulf between them. "I have some experience with chicken and the more common meats, but we were rarely able to afford anything as special as a roast - particularly after my mother... went away."
"It is true that I am beginning to see the fairer gender in a new light. However, we Rowans are unlanded nobles. We do not rule a particular area for the king."Kylie pauses, considering how to ask the next question. "There must be many maidens in your lands who have taken an interest in you."
"Definitely someday. I'm not sure when. Perhaps when the evil in this land is far less threatening than it is these days.""Do you see yourself settling down and raising a family some day?"
Corley will be taken a back by this line of question. "I must confess, Lady Kylie, that I am unsure just why you are asking these questions. I really haven't given any serious thought to whom I will marry. I do admit that a few fine ladies do come to mind.""Are your parents likely to select a mate for you? Or do you have your eye on someone yourself? I'm sorry, but I'm not really familiar with how these things are handled among the nobility. What kind of traits would you look for in a mate?"

Jallarzi
Jallarzi:
Jallarzi will graciously accept the accolades given her concerning the Mansion. "I always did prefer to travel in comfort."
At the spell conference:
"As I noted to Grondar, don't worry about undead. Furthermore, the lesser powered undead are susceptible to most of the same damaging spells as everyone else is. Magic Missile is just as effective on a zombie as it is a gnoll. Given that your place in the adventuring party is either stealthy scouting or rear support with either magic or your bow, I would recommend selecting those offensive spells with the most range. Under ideal circumstances, you shouldn't be involved in direct combat. Sleep is a good choice as a spell to use while under stealth as it’s a fairly quiet spell. Given that Color Spray is a point blank and very noticeable spell, I would recommend choosing something else in its place. Another Magic Missile would be ideal. You told me earlier that you were having problems with Alter Self, so you should take a different spell in its place. Trial and error has no place on the battlefield. Given your place in battle, a few complimentary spells would suit you. Such as Detect Spells and so on. Your defensive spells are fine."
"Unlike Kylie, Chareos here is considered a second tier fighter, meaning that he backs up the first line warriors. Given that, having some point blank spells is ideal. Color Spray is iffy as it has a fairly sizable area of effect. Burning Hands would be better, but since it is fire magic, that is out. Another Magic Missile is probably the best way to go. Given that Flaming Sphere is a fire spell, it should be swapped out. You'll have to be careful with Gust of Wind as you may catch your own comrades with in its effects. Given that there are others in the group who are skilled at scouting, it is unnecessary for you to worry about such magicks. A group functions by letting those who do a task best do that task. Your main place is backing up the fighters and tossing spells. Don't worry about anything else."
On Kharyna's spells, Jallarzi will say. "Those seem like a nice group. Again, I wouldn't worry about spells counter undead. You own clerical ability to turn them should suffice. I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss all touch spells. When delivered via Spectral Hand they can be quite effective."
On Argent's spells, Jallarzi will say, "While Wizard Sight does have its uses, you are an invoker and should carry an offensive spell in its place. Detect Magic should be carried by either one of the priests or by a more generalist mage. Likewise Cantrip may be handy, but another Magic Missile is more prudent on the battlefield."
"But unlike a real spider's web, this webbing is magically created. Web is a spell that specifies that a specific condition be met for the spell to succeed. In this case that the Webbing be properly supported. Other spells require other conditions. Pyrotechnics is another as it requires fire for the magic to be properly invoked. Failing to meet the condition causes the Web to fail and the webbing to fade back into the nothingness it came from. The same thing happens when the spell expires. The webbing fades away. It is consistent with this particular spell."Kylie listens carefully to Jallarzi's instruction. The information is helpful, though perhaps not as much so as she might have hoped. "In some ways it seems logical, and in other ways not. For example, if you break and anchor point on a spider web, the strands to not immediately lose their stickiness, nor are any trapped bugs suddenly set free."
"Since we are staying at Castle Cavius for the evening, we can engage in some practice. Before dinner we can go outside the castle and get you some practice in."Kylie wrote:"The real problem seems to be one of experience. We seem to be almost constantly busy since leaving Pyris, with little time available to practice spells and such. This leaves the unfortunate circumstance of having to hope for the best when the time comes and trying to survive when things go wrong."

At the spell conference:
"While I do have some knowledge of clerical magic, not knowing more about Berronar does limit the quality of my advice Grondar. However, there are a few things I can suggest. I wouldn't worry about praying for spells to counter undead. Most of the lower powered undead should be blasted out of existence when Elspeth and Ivy turn them. Those undead that do survive should be dealt with by the other worthy priests in the group. Furthermore, should it come to combat against undead then again Ivy and Elspeth are the best options. They already have some natural immunity against undead and their affects. It seems to me that those spell slots would be better severed with other magicks. I would hold on to Protection from Evil as it does have usefulness beyond undead. The rest of your spell selection does sound reasonable."Grondar wrote:"First off, Cavius said that the main encounters would likely be with zombies and perhaps other undead. Thus, I plan to ask Berronar for: Invisibility to Undead, Protection From Evil, Remove Fear, Restore Strength and Negative Plane Protection. This should provide a variety of options for dealing with situations involving undead.
"Command and Hold Person are intended for use on this Lord of Corruption or any non-undead lackeys he may have.
"Shield and Blur are for defense; I'd really like to live through this.
"Jump and Alter Self give me some mobility and flexibility. Detect Invisibility seems like a good spell to have just in case, if you know what I mean. I don't know if there are any types of invisible undead, but maybe this Lord of Corruption or one of his henchmen can become invisible.
"What do you recommend in the way of changes?"
"As I noted to Grondar, don't worry about undead. Furthermore, the lesser powered undead are susceptible to most of the same damaging spells as everyone else is. Chareos wrote:"For offensive purposes I have chosen Magic Missile, Color Spray, Web, Lightning Bolt as well as a Flaming Sphere in my Ioun stone. As for defensive purposes I have Mirror Image, Shield, Cat's Grace and Gust of Wind. I was also planning on memorizing Dispel Magic, Lasting Breath and Wraith Form to perhaps be used as a means of scouting...."

Laucian
Laucian eats a moderate supper at dinner. Afterwards Lady Jallazri calls for everyone to collect their belongings and gather around her. Doing so he moves with the others and watches as she speaks the incantations and a shimering door appears.
She ushers us inside where ghostly servants await us as well as extravagent surroundings, much more than the elf is used to. He looks around for a few moments as Jallazari explains the sleeping arrangements and not to eat the phantom food.
She asks for the spellcasters to join her in the a sitting area for their meeting. He answers her by saying, "Allow me to store my gear and take a change of clothes and I will be there shortly." He soon wonders about her follower Edwina and before he can hold his tongue he asks,"Lady Jallazri, where is your follower? Edwina, was it not?"
He soon stows his gear and removes his armor. Dawning a simple forest green robe he will head down to the meeting with his holy symbol quite visible on his chest.
He heads down to the meeting and takes a seat and slips down into it. He listens to the others and puts his fingers together judging those spells chosen and changes his mind a few times. When the time comes to speak of his spells he will say:
"The spells that I have chosen for this endeavor are not offensive or defensive per se. They are more of a supportive role. Though they could be used either way. Due to the fact that this swamp may give use very little light I have chosen Faerie Fire to outline our distant opponents. Bless to aid our fighters, Hold Person and Entangle to hold our opponents at bay for a time. Magical Stone to be used against undead. Dust Devil, Silence(15ft) and Summon Insects that will be used against spell casters, two of these could be used against anything that we may come across. And last but not least Stalk if the need arises for additional scouting purposes."
As usual when bed time rears its ugly head Laucian will go through his daily rituals of praying as well as getting his armor and weaponry ready.

GM Notes:
Quick GM Note:
Gwenith's player is having computer problems and I've been asked to post her abbreviated move. Here it is:
She will eat a filling meal of the dinner supplied by Cavius. And gather her gear for the trails that will lay ahead. She will marvel at Jallarzi's casting of the spell as well as the interior of the mansion. Once there she will find her room and stow her gear and return to the living room for small talk with the others and then turn in early for a good night's rest.

Adventure vs. Battle
VALIDAR -
After finding her room and getting things ready, Kharyna will meet with the others for the spellcasting gathering. There she sees Lord Validar already there and waiting. She smiles warmly at him and takes a seat near him. "Good to see you, Lord Validar. I was not expecting you."
"I suppose that is understandable at first thought, milady. I am interested to know what we can expect from each of the individuals in this group. While I am aware of what martial skills everyone has, spellcaster such as yourself have varying abilities. In a direct battle such as this, it may make all the difference in the combat to know there is, or is not, some tactic available to us. I have found that while many mages are quite effective as individuals or in small groups, they generally do not have military training and as such are often lacking in tactical or even strategic thinking. No disrespect intended."
Argent is mildly surprised to see Kharyna and Validar seated beside each other. "Well, this is an unexpected surprise. May I join you?" Argent will sit down on the other side of Validar. "So, did I miss anything yet?"
"By all means, please join us. It seems I have chosen the best seat in this room," Validar will say to both of his seatmates. "One could not ask for better seating arrangements."
After Jallarzi makes some of her comments about the use of individuals in this coming battle, Validar will stand and address the group. "If I may, Lady Sallavarian?" When she gives her okay, Validar will continue.
"My experience is that spellcasters in general and mages in particular are often fiercely independent and feel they know their own abilities best. In many cases and certainly with adventurers, this is probably quite true. However, this is not an 'adventure' we are undertaking. This is a battle, pure and simple."
"As such, each of you should be assigned specific roles within the whole and should set your spells to meet those roles. Were we in the Frontier or traveling on adventure, then that is different. Jallarzi, Sherwood and I met earlier and discussed the roles of each of you in this battle. While it may be prudent to have something overlapping another area, each of you should define your spells around particular duties to the group."
"As such, we have defined the following roles for the spellcasters, Jallarzi and Sherwood excluded for obvious reasons: Argent, Kharyna and Lilia are the direct attack individuals. They should concentrate on ways to damage the enemy directly. Next would be Ivy and Chareos. These two are part of our second-line of fighters and as such should use HTH type spells and close combat and defensive spells. Lara and Kylie are the snipers and stealthier ones. They can try to find alternate lanes of attack and strike from afar. Lyonessa, Grondar and Laucian should be the support group. Their spells should be ones that directly hamper the enemy and directly increase the skills or defenses of our group."
Jallarzi recommendations are based upon these roles and this particular battle. When this conflict is over, we can discuss the arrangement of the group. I am aware that a number of those assembled will not be continuing on with myself. I welcome the chance to do battle with each of you against the Lord of Corruption and also in the future if our paths continue together."
Validar will return to his seat and continue to listen intently to all that is said.

Grondar:
Grondar notes the appearance of Lord Validar at the spellcasters' meeting, but makes no comment, as the young noble is far to the back and Grondar is seated near the front.
"That said, based on your recommendations, how about these changes: Bless in place of Invisibility to Undead, Strength of Stone in place of Remove Fear, Resist Fire / Cold in place of Restore Strength, and Prayer in place of Negative Plane Protection?"

"There is no doubt of that, Argent," Grondar replies. "Sherwood has brought together a fine assemblage of adventurers here."Argent wrote:"Well, then it seems that I am in good company", Argent will respond with an easy smile.
"While zombies had been mentioned as likely antagonists, I didn't want to assume that they were the only type of undead we would meet. Also, I have no doubt that Elspeth and Ivy can do much to handle any undead we might meet; in fact, I'm no slouch in that department myself. However, my experience with Turning undead is that it generally applies to limited numbers. If we encounter hundreds, or perhaps even thousands, will they really be able to handle all that on their own?Jallarzi wrote:"While I do have some knowledge of clerical magic, not knowing more about Berronar does limit the quality of my advice Grondar. Grondar listens as Validar relates his vision of their mission. "Regarding this battle, it seems to me that we know little of what we will be facing. Cavius has mentioned this Lord of Corruption, as well as the likelihood of encountering zombies. Assuming that Jillarzi is correct and we can discount the undead threat, that leaves just the Lord of Corruption - a priest, if I understood correctly. I tried to ask Lord Cavius of what else we might expect to encounter, but got no real answer. It seems to me that our strategy and even our spell selections should take into account our expected adversaries. Do you have any further information regarding what we are likely to encounter once we are past the zombies? Does the Lord of Corruption have human minions or other monsters that we should take into account?""My experience is that spellcasters in general and mages in particular are often fiercely independent and feel they know their own abilities best. Kylie:
Kylie nods. "Unfortunately, I have little experience in this area and have no idea what to do to influence the outcome. Perhaps you could teach me some of what you have learned when the opportunity arises?"
Seating herself on the floor, Kylie begins to look through Argent's spellbooks. She emits the occasional 'hmm' or 'ahh', but nothing really intelligible.
Argent wrote:"When you mix in raw emotions you can pretty much throw logic out the window, Kylie. One's heart seldom listens to one's head after all. And there are things you can do to make an outcome less than random. It's just a matter of figuring out what you want and how far you're willing to go to get it."
Kylie nods. "Unfortunately, I have little experience in this area and have no idea what to do to influence the outcome. Perhaps you could teach me some of what you have learned when the opportunity arises?"
"Do you intend to stay on with the Guardians after this encounter in the swamp?"Argent wrote:"That's fair enough. From the sounds of it this group will be adventuring in this part of Cynalon for a long time to come, so there is ample chance our paths will cross in the future."
Glancing over at Chareos, Kylie then looks back at Argent. "Well, I'm certainly willing. From experience, I'd say that some of the others may be less willing to make such an open trade." Kylie accepts Argent's spellbooks and hands her own over for her friend's review.Argent wrote:"Then it seems to me that we should implement such a policy since you are both willing.
Seating herself on the floor, Kylie begins to look through Argent's spellbooks. She emits the occasional 'hmm' or 'ahh', but nothing really intelligible.
"You are right, of course," Kylie says. "It seems we really do have very little in common." There is no joy in Kylie's tone.Corley wrote:"It seems that we were raised quite different, Lady Kylie. I cannot imagine not being able to afford to eat. Probably no more than you can imagine living in a castle."
Corley's words do nothing to lift Kylie's spirits. It is as though each word were another nail in a wall being built between them. Rather than speak, Kylie just nods her head.Corley wrote:"It is true that I am beginning to see the fairer gender in a new light. However, we Rowans are unlanded nobles. We do not rule a particular area for the king."
"Definitely someday. I'm not sure when. Perhaps when the evil in this land is far less threatening than it is these days."
"I'm sorry, Corley, I did not mean to make you uncomfortable with my silly questions," Kylie says. "I will not bother you any further," she says, rising. Turning, Kylie moves quickly off, seeking some place to nurse her broken heart in solitude.Corley wrote:Corley will be taken a back by this line of question. "I must confess, Lady Kylie, that I am unsure just why you are asking these questions. I really haven't given any serious thought to whom I will marry. I do admit that a few fine ladies do come to mind."
Lord Corley will allow himself a small smile as he reminisces after a few shapely maidens in his mind.
"But clearly such things must wait. It is my duty to serve my king and help cleanse this land of the evil that plagues it. All other things must wait until that time."
"That sounds great!" Kylie enthuses. "Of course, I can only practice the spells I have memorized, and I don't have more than one of any of them currently memorized, so it may not be the most effective practice. Still, should be fun."Jallarzi wrote:"Since we are staying at Castle Cavius for the evening, we can engage in some practice. Before dinner we can go outside the castle and get you some practice in."
"Okay," Kylie says, thinking quickly to come up with alternatives. "Magic Missile for Color Spray. That's easy enough. How about Vocalize instead of the Alter Self? That would allow me access to my spells even if hit with a magical Silence."Jallarzi wrote:"As I noted to Grondar, don't worry about undead.
Kylie spins around upon hearing Validar's voice. She hadn't noticed him come in. His speech reminds her a bit of a certain instuctor she once was taught by. What he says makes sense, but she finds it terribly dull.Validar wrote:After Jallarzi makes some of her comments about the use of individuals in this coming battle, Validar will stand and address the group.
VALIDAR -
Grondar listens as Validar relates his vision of their mission. Does the Lord of Corruption have human minions or other monsters that we should take into account?"
"Unfortunately, we have little exact information. From the sounds of those who have been there before, it seems that the Lord of Corruption's defenses are based on the special abilities of the basilisks, some monsters, the swamp itself and the undead. Plus those unfortunates who have been corrupted by the vile black water."
"If there are other defenses, we have adequate power and abilities to take care of such. Our tactics and strategy for groupings and spell selections are effective for both known and unknown opponents. Granted we are not able to take specific counter-measures against unknown threats, but between our spells and the swords of this group, I believe we could face thousands of enemies. Without Sherwood and Jallarzi, we took Castle Cavius. In the Seekers, a group of similar size and less power managed to attack a beseiging army of thousands of humanoids and free Gateway from their grip. This Lord of Corruption may be a strong opponent, but we will soon rip his evilness from the swamp and destroy him once and for all."

Acerion
Acerion:
"I am very pleased to know that, Lord Acerion. Especially since I am something of a liability when it comes to combat by weapon. However, I do my best to keep out of harms way."
"We all have our strengths and weaknesses, Lady Argent," Acerion will comment. "Even though you boast of your magical prowess, you show wisdom in recognizing your weakness and humble enough to admit it. Very commendable traits." The last is said with a slight smile from the paladin's lips.
Since it seems everyone in the group Acerion knows very well is at the spellcasters meeting, including Validar, there isn't much for the young lord to do. He will seek out Corley, Swanny and Gwenith and see if any of them are up to honing their skills. Acerion himself needs to practice his two sword style since he has little chance to use it given his proficiency and dedication to the use of the battle axe. Still, he does not wish his skill with swords to deteriorate.
If no one is up for any sparring, he will instead engage in light conversation until the time to retire for the evening is upon them.

close to the end..
Sherra:
After spending ample time with Grondar before he has to head off to the meeting for the spellcasters of the group, Sherra decides to store her gear in the impressive mansion that the group will have for the night.
She heads back downstairs and tries to find Talia, having lost track of her fellow thief during all the commotion following the battle with Lord Cavius. If she is successful in locating her, she'll spends some time talking with her and has a question or two as well.
"So what are your plans after all this is over Talia?" Sherra will ask sometime during their conversation. "It appears the group will be splitting up again once this Lord of Corruption and the black water is dealt with, or at least that's what I seem to be hearing. Are you going to continue on with your old companions?"
If Talia's answer is the one Sherra is expecting, then she will be visibly saddened at the thought of having to part ways with her new friend. That time has not arrived yet though, so Sherra will keep the rest of the conversation light, engaging in a few stories she has about when she was at sea and generally just enjoying Talia's company for as long as the two thieves can stay awake.

Some things I seem to have missed...
VALIDAR -
A grin will come to Argent's face. "Why Lord Validar, I think we're going to get along splendidly. I wasn't aware I was actually being 'humble'. It's not really in my nature. As I've become more proficient in my spellcasting, my own confidence has grown by leaps and bounds."
"Even better, milady. Confidence is often confused by those who do not have it for a boastful or overbearing manner. On the contrary, confidence is the natural result of true skill."
"I do not have the habit of making snap judgments that can be colored by one's own feelings. If anything I'm probably a bit more analytical and cold in my thought process. I'd rather think a situation through than rush to a false conclusion."
"Sometimes snap decisions can be rash and sometimes we make the best decisions when we react according to our emotions and impressions. Over-analyzing can drone something to death, just as not analyzing enough can lead to dangerous mistakes. There is a place for both."

More Argent
Argent:
Excusing herself, Argent will move away from the paladin feeling a bit flushed. She can't help but wonder if it was hot in there or if it was him…
Later, Argent and Kharyna talk in private. The subject of spell swapping comes up first and Argent is most agreeable. She'll page through Kharyna's books while they chat. While many of the spells Argent already has there are a few she does not and will attempt to learn those. There are also some spells that she a bit surprised to find in her friends spellbook. She also has several spells from the mage Otto that Argent has never heard of before.
"Looks like you had an encounter with a nutty necromancer", Argent notes as she sees a selection of necromantic magic. "Why in the world would you put some of these in your spellbook? I mean, Undead Mount? EEEWWW!"
"Now Quimby's Enchanting Gourmet does sound interesting. To bad its conjuration magic. How good is it's cooking skills? Should I be worried about the competition?"
"You'll find Wraithform very useful for getting into places that would otherwise be very difficult. I've used it to reach the chambers of a sorceress back at Karn's Keep. That's were I got most of my current magic items, jewelry, and wardrobe. She had some excellent taste."
"I'm really surprised that you never had Cantrip before. Outside of combat, it is the spell I use the most. After all, a girl does want to look her best, even in a dank dungeon!"
When the time is finally right, Argent will say, "I'm sorry if I moved in on your territory concerning Lord Validar. I wasn't aware that you two were involved. You do make an interesting couple."
In spite everything she's been through, Jallarzi's suggestions make Argent feel just like a novice apprentice once more. "Yes, Ma'am."On Argent's spells, Jallarzi will say, "While Wizard Sight does have its uses, you are an invoker and should carry an offensive spell in its place. Detect Magic should be carried by either one of the priests or by a more generalist mage. Likewise Cantrip may be handy, but another Magic Missile is more prudent on the battlefield."
"What a nice thing to say, Lord Validar. You certainly know how to make a girl feel welcome." Argent is a bit surprised to find Validar sitting next to Kharyna and it does make her mind wander a bit. It's something that she'll have to take up with Kharyna at a later date."By all means, please join us. It seems I have chosen the best seat in this room," Validar will say to both of his seatmates. "One could not ask for better seating arrangements."
"He is a fine man," Argent will agree. "Perhaps a bit stoic, but someone you can depend on.""There is no doubt of that, Argent," Grondar replies. "Sherwood has brought together a fine assemblage of adventurers here."
"I can try, Kylie. Some of it just comes from my manner. I grew up working in my parents store, so I'm used to talking to people and trying to influence them. It almost comes naturally to me. I'm at ease with people, even those that I've just met. My body language reflects that. I'm not nervous or shy, and that tends to put others equally at ease."Kylie nods. "Unfortunately, I have little experience in this area and have no idea what to do to influence the outcome. Perhaps you could teach me some of what you have learned when the opportunity arises?"
"For the foreseeable future", Argent will admit. "I do find some of the warriors assembled her quite easy on the eyes and their goals are admirable. I may depart somewhere down the road, but I'm here for now."Kylie wrote:"Do you intend to stay on with the Guardians after this encounter in the swamp?"
"That's fine", Argent will say. "That is their choice and if you ask me, their loss. Everyone here is doing this voluntarily after all."Glancing over at Chareos, Kylie then looks back at Argent. "Well, I'm certainly willing. From experience, I'd say that some of the others may be less willing to make such an open trade." Kylie accepts Argent's spellbooks and hands her own over for her friend's review.
"Why thank you, Lord Acerion", Argent responds with a slight bow. "Please forgive me if I am being forward, but you have the most enchanting green eyes that I have ever seen. I could almost drown in them.""We all have our strengths and weaknesses, Lady Argent," Acerion will comment. "Even though you boast of your magical prowess, you show wisdom in recognizing your weakness and humble enough to admit it. Very commendable traits." The last is said with a slight smile from the paladin's lips.

"I can assure you that my confidence is borne of battle experience. I've experienced the ups and downs of adventuring. Since gaining access to Fireball and Lightning bolt, my confidence in my magic has only grown. Now I look forward to gaining more potent spells and magic items. Admittedly, those are my major goals, but I'm not totally obsessed with them to the extent of all other things. I'm also rather fond of jewelry too."Validar wrote:"Even better, milady. Grondar:
"Hmm... Are the monsters likely to be limited to the swamp, or do you think we'll find some in the temple as well?" Grondar scratches his chin through his neatly-trimmed beard. "Other than that, we should expect mostly humans under the influence of the corruption? Too bad we don't know more about how many or what kind of abilities they might have."Validar wrote:"Unfortunately, we have little exact information. If truth be told, Grondar quite enjoys his brief visits with the human woman. It is a pleasure to share the company of a human who seems not to judge him whatever based on his race and simply accepts him as he is. Were he human as well, Grondar suspects that he would be quite taken with the raven-haired beauty. However, he cannot really see himself with a woman who wasn't a dwarf, or perhaps a gnome. Otherwise, the differences would be just too great to support a real relationship. Still, she makes a wonderful friend.Sherra wrote:After spending ample time with Grondar before he has to head off to the meeting for the spellcasters of the group, Sherra decides to store her gear in the impressive mansion that the group will have for the night.

"Thank you, Argent. I don't expect miracles, and I know I don't have a lot to work with, but any help you can give would be wonderful."Argent wrote:"I can try, Kylie. "I know what you mean," Kylie says with a twinkle in her eye. "I'm sure you'll do well with this group, Argent.""For the foreseeable future", Argent will admit. "I do find some of the warriors assembled her quite easy on the eyes and their goals are admirable. I may depart somewhere down the road, but I'm here for now."
Kylie takes the time to dig through her 'older sister's' spellbook, finding that quite a few are within her grasp. Returning the spellbooks to Argent, Kylie seems quite pleased. "Thank you so much, Argent! I was able to master quite a few new spells. I'm especially excited about: Hypnotic Pattern, Invisibility, Locate Object and Rope Trick. All of which should be very useful to someone in my profession.""That's fine", Argent will say. "That is their choice and if you ask me, their loss. Everyone here is doing this voluntarily after all."
Chareos
Chareos watches as Argent takes out her tomes and passes them with difficulty. He quick asks if he may help her. "Here let me help you."
He exchanges glances at Kylie and says, "Let us see what mysteries Argent has uncovered that we may have overlooked."
Looking back at Argent, " I look forward to unraveling the secrets of the spells that you posses. Here is my tome as well may you find something of use to you."

Time to move on...
VALIDAR -
"What a nice thing to say, Lord Validar. You certainly know how to make a girl feel welcome." Argent is a bit surprised to find Validar sitting next to Kharyna and it does make her mind wander a bit.
"Indeed. The pleasure is mine."
"Hmm... Are the monsters likely to be limited to the swamp, or do you think we'll find some in the temple as well?" Grondar scratches his chin through his neatly-trimmed beard. "Other than that, we should expect mostly humans under the influence of the corruption? Too bad we don't know more about how many or what kind of abilities they might have."
"I would not be surprised to find monsters within the temple as well and will be preparing as such. If they are not there, then all the better for us. Unfortunately, we cannot know exactly what we will be facing. We may have the chance for some reconnaisance once we get to the temple and we may not. Sometimes these battles are surprises and we have to adjust our plans on the fly. More reason why we need to work well together and know what to expect from each of us. While we have considerable power at our disposal, a well-working group can always defeat a more powerful collection of individuals."
Validar will thank the group when the spellcasters' meeting ends for the information and the learning experience. "It is always advantageous to learn more about the possibilities out there. Many mages are very independent, but that does not make a better group. I think the Guardians of the Light are better as a whole for this. Hopefully we can continue this process as needed."
Later, Validar will meet with some of the group, if they are not predisposed. He will try to find some time to hook up Acerion and Corley, along with perhaps Lyonessa. Validar would like to talk about their plans to move on Stone Ridge and the continued problems with Corunglain and the fallen forts to the north. He understands that Lyonessa is very interested to find her sister, but cannot be certain the next stop will be Ardelphia. The lords have committed to freeing Stone Ridge and this might be better advanced by first reclaiming the two fallen forts. He will ask their opinion on where to proceed as well.
He will talk to Laucian, Lilia, Arocken and Kylie together, asking their intentions once this battle is concluded. He would welcome all of them to continue with the mission of the Guardians. Validar is already very sure that Arocken will be with him. The elf enjoys battles and conflict and they have become friends since the Seekers. Likewise, he thinks that the ranger Laucian will as well. The women are a question to the young noble as he has no idea of their intentions beyond this.
Validar will meet with Ivy and Grondar and Sherra (the two seem to be found together often anyway) and invite them to continue the good works they are doing. All three of them have been vital to our mission and we work well together. There are big plans in the works for this part of the kingdom and this young noble can use their assistance. We are under dire straits here and the Guardians can continue to do much good here in the western frontier.
Knowing that many are leaving, he wishes them well and that they have a good battle together in the coming days. Argent meanwhile has already committed to staying on.
Later, he will meet with Gwenith and thank her for her assistance in the coming battle and in leading them to the swamp and the enemy. We shall be leaving in the morning.
Validar will spend time with whomever wishes to chat about the battle or anything that comes up, whether in groups or individually. He is obviously very confident of this upcoming attack and does not show signs of nervousness at all.
He will turn in at a reasonable hour and waken early to prepare his mounts and eat a hearty breakfast.
And everyone please wish the MAD ONE a very Happy Birthday today. It's one of those mile-stone birthdays too!

Laucian
After the meeting Lord Validar asks for a moment of Laucian's time to speak of future endevours.
"This is what I seek to find. I will remain with you, my comrades nay my friends. For this the best way to pass on Ehlonna's knowledge, find that which I seek and purge this land of what hinders it." For those who look into Laucian's eyes will see the fiery passion of his soul.
Happy Birthday Mad!
After the meeting Lord Validar asks for a moment of Laucian's time to speak of future endevours.
He will consider the question while gauging the faces of his comrades and finally speaks on his own behalf. "There are things in this world that men hold dear to their heart, whether it be honor, glory, riches, duty or one's own kin." He looks thoughtfully at the others and continues, "Being in the service of the Lady of the Forests, duty and honor are among the things I cherish. Yet there is a void of emptiness within. A void that may be only filled by my own kin."Validar--
He will talk to Laucian, Lilia, Arocken and Kylie together, asking their intentions once this battle is concluded.
KHARYNA -
"Looks like you had an encounter with a nutty necromancer", Argent notes as she sees a selection of necromantic magic. "Why in the world would you put some of these in your spellbook? I mean, Undead Mount? EEEWWW!"
"There are uses for Necromatic Magicks. I wouldn't use some of the more questionable type myself. We encountered a Necromancer in the Dwarven City of Ilefarn, when we helped to liberate it. That's also where I claimed this marvelous Staff of Power. It is one of my most powerful items to date."
"Now Quimby's Enchanting Gourmet does sound interesting. To bad its conjuration magic. How good is it's cooking skills? Should I be worried about the competition?"
"It's basically an Unseen Servant that cooks for you. It is not bad and useful when you don't feel like cooking yourself. Occassionally it really outdoes itself, but it is mostly good quality."
"You'll find Wraithform very useful for getting into places that would otherwise be very difficult. I've used it to reach the chambers of a sorceress back at Karn's Keep. That's were I got most of my current magic items, jewelry, and wardrobe. She had some excellent taste."
"Wraithform is one spell I have been searching for in particular, but even more interesting to me are Vocalize and Fly. I have been using Levitate for various things to compensate."
"I'm really surprised that you never had Cantrip before. Outside of combat, it is the spell I use the most. After all, a girl does want to look her best, even in a dank dungeon!"
"I suppose that is useful. We always had such an easy means of transportation and magic shelter that getting cleaned up was never a problem. And frankly our group has not had anyone in it to really try to look the best for. Not that I don't like a nice appearance." This is obvious by the quality of her clothes and the abundance of jewelry. "A girl can never have too many nice clothes or too many jewels."
When the time is finally right, Argent will say, "I'm sorry if I moved in on your territory concerning Lord Validar. I wasn't aware that you two were involved. You do make an interesting couple."
Kharyna gives her friend a surprised look. "Lord Validar? A couple?" For a moment she is speechless.
"I have to admit that he is certainly a man I would be interested in and I am highly attracted to him, but we are going in two different directions right not. I have the Towers of Gaz to liberate and reclaim and he has his own missions. We have talked at length in private and have much in common. Maybe too much," she says with a knowing smile.
"Perhaps one day, but for now, we are certainly no couple. I do enjoy being around him in the meantime." Then the realization dawns on her. "So YOU are interested in him then? I am not surprised," she says with a laugh.

Ivy
Ivy:
Like many of the others, Ivy will be amazed at the magical dwelling Lady Sallavarian conjures. What amazing power she possesses!
Ivy will place her gear in her opulent chamber and then join the other spellcasters. Returning to the others, Ivy will go over her spells prayed for.
"As the Lady Sallavarian knows well, we Azrellians have little in the way of combat magic. My spells are primarily healing and support. I have a Dispel Magic in memory, along with Withdraw, Silence 15' Radius, Hold Person, and Charm Person. I also have Remove Fear, Orison, Entangle, and Protection from Evil."
"I can destroy zombies and ghouls with just Azrella's word, friend Grondar. Elspeth is even more powerful than I. I believe she can remove even undead as powerful as Wights. Should there be more than all the priests can handle, we will destroy them by hand if necessary. Assuming that we are entering the swamp in the daytime, then many undead are at a disadvantage or are unable to operate in sunlight. We should be able to deal with whatever undead face us."
Later, I am approached by Lord Validar.
Ivy will chat with everyone for awhile before retiring for the evening.
"Of course, Elspeth. I will always be there when you need me."Elspeth wrote:"When the time comes, will you and Ivy be at my side so that I can draw upon your strength and goodness to turn back this evil tide?"
"Amen to that, friend Grondar. For it is the same oath that I have taken."Grondar bows to both Ivy and Elspeth. "Nothing short of death shall ever stop me from continuing the Revered Mother's good work."
"I meant no offense, friend Grondar. I believe that Azrella will see to it that this is resolved permanently. Past visions Elspeth has received have indeed completely solved whatever problem was at hand. I am confident that it will be the same in this case."Grondar chuckles. "I don't believe I have ever been accused of lacking faith before, nor am I skeptical of what the divine Azrella can achieve. It was stated that the water would be purified, but no mention was made of preventing the creation of more or otherwise resolving the problem at the source. I merely wanted to make sure that there was no likelihood of the problem returning. Since you say that it will be fully resolved, that is good enough for me."

With the discussion turning to undead, Ivy speaks up as this is more her area of expertise.Grondar wrote:"While zombies had been mentioned as likely antagonists, I didn't want to assume that they were the only type of undead we would meet. Also, I have no doubt that Elspeth and Ivy can do much to handle any undead we might meet; in fact, I'm no slouch in that department myself. However, my experience with Turning undead is that it generally applies to limited numbers. If we encounter hundreds, or perhaps even thousands, will they really be able to handle all that on their own?

Later, I am approached by Lord Validar.
Ivy will consider for a moment. "To tell the truth, Lord Validar, I haven't really given much thought to what came after this mission. While you and I may not see eye to eye, I can not find any fault in the goals that you have set for yourself and your band. While my combat skills are not as impressive in your band, my healing skills will be needed. I would be honored to continue on with your band."Validar will meet with Ivy and Grondar and Sherra (the two seem to be found together often anyway) and invite them to continue the good works they are doing. All three of them have been vital to our mission and we work well together. There are big plans in the works for this part of the kingdom and this young noble can use their assistance. We are under dire straits here and the Guardians can continue to do much good here in the western frontier.
Ivy will chat with everyone for awhile before retiring for the evening.
For the glory of the Blue Lady!
Elspeth
Elspeth:
She will rest in her room after Jallarzi conjures her mansion. Since Elspeth does not expect to be involved in the combat and Jallarzi knows well what type of spells she carries, she won't attend the spell conference.
"My thanks to you both. Let us indeed pray that this will be the end of the matter once and for all."Ivy & Acerion wrote:"Of course, Elspeth. I will always be there when you need me."
"Whatever you need from me you may have," Acerion will say. "I will not falter in my defense of you so that you may bestow your miracle. No others must be allowed to suffer such a cruel imprisonment as the foul water has delivered."

How can I help?
Sweatin' with Swanny
Swanny:
Swanny follows everyone into the magical house and is suitably awed.
"Whoa! Now this is what I call traveling in style! So, how long until we get one of these?" That last question was directed at Kharyna.
After getting settled in, Swanny goes to mingle with the others not involved in the spell casting thingie.
Swanny goes back to her room and retrieves a pair of swords: her usual flame tongue and a short sword.
"I also am familiar with the two weapon style, but don't use it very often. I find I’d rather have a shield for extra protection."
Swanny will go easy on Acerion at first to gauge his skill levels with the blades.

"Sure thing. I don't mind working up a sweat with you, Acerion. In fact, I can help you a bit with fighting with two weapons."Acerion wrote:Since it seems everyone in the group Acerion knows very well is at the spellcasters meeting, including Validar, there isn't much for the young lord to do.

Lets get this party started!
Sherwood
Sherwood:
"What is in our favor is that it is winter time and I would imagine that much of the swamp is iced over. The ice is probably not deep enough to walk on, but it will make the water patches easier to spot. Any foes we encounter will also have to be on the same narrow paths that we'll be treading. Therefore only a few of us should expect to be involved in hand to hand combat on a trail, unless we have an enemy attack at range. And even then we can attack back at range."
"Perhaps temple is to grand a word to describe what lies in the swamp. Shrine perhaps would suffice. The area the shrine sits on is small and from what Lord Cavius said only has a few chambers. It is small place, with perhaps only a handful of priests. I suspect that we greatly outnumber them."
"The only real danger appears to be those under the influence of the black water in the swamp. Their numbers and skills are unknown. I don't see us facing hundreds of foes, at least at one time. Should we come across something that we are not prepared to face, we can always retreat into Jallarzi's mansion and regroup. Unless something exceptional is to be encountered, we should be able to handle whatever we come across."
During the day of rest, Sherwood will renew the Stoneskins on those who need them.
"It is certainly worth a try. At the very least it may remove whatever protective magicks he has on himself. While there are certainly followers of this dark god, we have yet to determine if any of them are acting of their own free will. I did read that those priests who side with the dark god are given the task of slaying an enemy priest and then taking their holy symbol as a trophy. The symbol is then desecrated and it becomes their own symbol. That is why you found the deformed holy symbols on those black robed priests."Chareos wrote:"I think I may have confused you my friend. I merely meant was there known followers after this god was fast asleep. If he is indeed so perhaps on sight of him we should cast a dispel his way?"
"While it is true that the swamp is an unpleasant place, it may actually throw things into our favor. As Lord Cavius mentioned, the basilisks are not adapted to living in the swamp as are most large monsters. I would imagine that even many zombies have fallen into the water and quicksand effectively sealing their own fates."Grondar listens as Validar relates his vision of their mission. "Regarding this battle, it seems to me that we know little of what we will be facing. Cavius has mentioned this Lord of Corruption, as well as the likelihood of encountering zombies. Assuming that Jallarzi is correct and we can discount the undead threat, that leaves just the Lord of Corruption - a priest, if I understood correctly. I tried to ask Lord Cavius of what else we might expect to encounter, but got no real answer. It seems to me that our strategy and even our spell selections should take into account our expected adversaries. Do you have any further information regarding what we are likely to encounter once we are past the zombies? Does the Lord of Corruption have human minions or other monsters that we should take into account?"

Lilia
Lilia:
Lilia will be impressed by the magical dwelling conjured by Lady Jallarzi. Someday Lilia will be able to perform that feat!
Somewhat reluctantly, Lilia will attend the spell conference. Perhaps something can be learned from such a powerful mage.
Upon hearing some of the comments from those who speak before her, Lilia will state her spell list as being:
"My spells will include two Lightning Bolts, a Dispel Magic, Melf's Acid Arrow, Alter Self for improved movement, Cat's Grace, Web, two Magic Missiles, Shield, Sleep, and a Chromatic Orb."

"I have asked to join Kharyna's band as her goals are more in line with mine. I have yet to receive an answer. Should she refuse, I would probably return to the Elfholds."Validar wrote:He will talk to Laucian, Lilia, Arocken and Kylie together, asking their intentions once this battle is concluded. Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!
Talia
Talia:
As per her nature, Talia tends to keep to herself and keep company with her own group. She'll be polite to Argent when introduced. She's heard that the Invoker is a friend of Kharyna.
Later she can be found chatting with Sherra.
Noticing the look of sadness on Sherra's face does affect Talia. "You could come with us if you wish," Talia will say brightening up. "I could talk to Kharyna. It would be a lot of fun to have you around with us."
The dark haired scout will listen to Sherra's stories until late in the evening.

"I'll be going off with Kharyna, Sherra. Dungeon explorations are more my stock and trade anyway. I'm more comfortable there and I do owe a debt to Kharyna for my freedom.""So what are your plans after all this is over Talia?" Sherra will ask sometime during their conversation. "It appears the group will be splitting up again once this Lord of Corruption and the black water is dealt with, or at least that's what I seem to be hearing. Are you going to continue on with your old companions?"

Jallarzi
Jallarzi:
Jallarzi begins to respond to Grondar's response to her critique, when Ivy goes first. "Ivy's thoughts on the matter pretty much mirror my own. The most dangerous of undead cannot stand to be out in the daylight and those who can should be blasted out of existence by the priests. Any that do survive should be easy enough to destroy. As Sherwood noted, the terrain itself precludes us facing an effective horde of enemies."
Jallarzi finds Ivy's spell list to be very sensible. Likewise, Lilia's spells are serviceable.
"Edwina is still sleeping off her latest tart binge," Jallarzi will answer. "I felt it better to leave her at home."Laucian wrote:She asks for the spellcasters to join her in the sitting area for their meeting. He answers her by saying, "Allow me to store my gear and take a change of clothes and I will be there shortly." He soon wonders about her follower Edwina and before he can hold his tongue he asks, "Lady Jallarzi, where is your follower? Edwina, was it not?"
"Faerie Fire is a fine spell, but Continual Light is better. While it may not illuminate targets at long range, it will last much longer. The rest seem useful given our situation, Laucian."Laucian wrote:"The spells that I have chosen for this endeavor are not offensive or defensive per se. Dust Devil, Silence (15ft) and Summon Insects that will be used against spell casters, two of these could be used against anything that we may come across. And last but not least Stalk if the need arises for additional scouting purposes."

As Sherwood noted, the terrain itself precludes us facing an effective horde of enemies."
"Those sound like appropriate spells, Grondar of Berronar."Grondar wrote:"That said, based on your recommendations, how about these changes: Bless in place of Invisibility to Undead, Strength of Stone in place of Remove Fear, Resist Fire / Cold in place of Restore Strength, and Prayer in place of Negative Plane Protection?"
"That is fine. Plus we can practice again tomorrow night after our day's long ride before we retire into the Mansion for the evening."Kylie wrote:"That sounds great!" Kylie enthuses. "Of course, I can only practice the spells I have memorized, and I don't have more than one of any of them currently memorized, so it may not be the most effective practice. Still, should be fun."
"That's very good, Kylie."Kylie wrote:"Okay," Kylie says, thinking quickly to come up with alternatives. "Magic Missile for Color Spray. That's easy enough. How about Vocalize instead of the Alter Self? That would allow me access to my spells even if hit with a magical Silence."
Jallarzi finds Ivy's spell list to be very sensible. Likewise, Lilia's spells are serviceable.

Argent
Argent:
Reaching into one of her Bags of Holding, Argent will pull out a gem incrusted tiara. "Just a little trinket I found. A bit too much to wear for regular occasions."
"Sure, I would be interested in him, but I'm interested in several of the others as well. I merely didn't want to come between you two is all. I'm not that type of girl. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to be with him. We shall see what comes to pass."
"You know, we are definitely too much alike Kharyna! It's probably a good thing that we don't adventure together that often. We would both want to same treasures we would find!"
"You're a wonderful girl with a lot to offer, Kylie. So don't sell yourself short. I find it ironic that you are so blasé about breaking into people's homes, but get tongue tied while speaking to a handsome man. I'd definitely be more nervous when breaking into someone's house!"Kylie wrote:"Thank you, Argent. I don't expect miracles, and I know I don't have a lot to work with, but any help you can give would be wonderful."
"Thank you. It should be an interesting experience.""I know what you mean," Kylie says with a twinkle in her eye. "I'm sure you'll do well with this group, Argent."
"You're welcome, Kylie. There are also some very nice spells once you can cast 3rd level spells to had too. Of interest to you should be Clairvoyance, Dispel Magic, Fireball, Fly, Invisibility 10' Radius, Lightning Bolt, Nondetection, Water Breathing, and Wraithform."Kylie takes the time to dig through her 'older sister's' spellbook, finding that quite a few are within her grasp. Returning the spellbooks to Argent, Kylie seems quite pleased. "Thank you so much, Argent! I was able to master quite a few new spells. I'm especially excited about: Hypnotic Pattern, Invisibility, Locate Object and Rope Trick. All of which should be very useful to someone in my profession."
"Thank you", Argent will say gratefully. "You're a scholar and a gentleman."Chareos watches as Argent takes out her tomes and passes them with difficulty. He quick asks if he may help her. "Here let me help you."
"Thanks. I hope I have something you can make use of."Chareos wrote:Looking back at Argent, " I look forward to unraveling the secrets of the spells that you posses. Here is my tome as well may you find something of use to you."
"Very nice", Argent will say in appreciation of the fine Staff of Power. "While I don't have anything quite that potent, I do have some unusual items. One of my rings is a Ring of Magic Resistance that can completely protect me from some spells. The amulet is a Necklace of Adaptation allowing me to breath even when I normally could not. My earrings are also magical. With them, I can understand any spoken language. I can't respond back in the language, just listen. I also have a Crystal Ball."Kharyna wrote:"There are uses for Necromantic Magicks. I wouldn't use some of the more questionable type myself. We encountered a Necromancer in the Dwarven City of Illefarn, when we helped to liberate it. That's also where I claimed this marvelous Staff of Power. It is one of my most powerful items to date."
"Fly is very nice. I use it frequently myself."Kharyna wrote:"Wraithform is one spell I have been searching for in particular, but even more interesting to me are Vocalize and Fly. I have been using Levitate for various things to compensate."
"On that we are in complete agreement", Argent will say with a laugh. "Check this out."Kharyna wrote:"A girl can never have too many nice clothes or too many jewels."
Reaching into one of her Bags of Holding, Argent will pull out a gem incrusted tiara. "Just a little trinket I found. A bit too much to wear for regular occasions."
"Ah, that'll teach me to make assumptions", Argent laughs in response. "Well just because he's tall, handsome, and muscular is no reason to find him attractive. What am I saying? Of course those are very good reasons to find him attractive! Being a undoubtedly rich noble certainly doesn't hurt."Kharyna gives her friend a surprised look. "Lord Validar? A couple?" For a moment she is speechless.
"I have to admit that he is certainly a man I would be interested in and I am highly attracted to him, but we are going in two different directions right not. I am an Invoker of no small power.
the future...
Sherra:
"I'm sure our paths will cross again though, especially if our survival skills and the blessings of Tymora have anything to say about it," she will say with her smile firmly back in place.
She will pause and think a moment before a smile forms at the corners of her mouth, "Besides you will need a commander for the navy of the new empire you will be carving out, right?"
"I appreciate the offer, but my path lies with Validar for the foreseeable future. There are a number of things we had discussed that I believe we have a chance of seeing through to completion," Sherra will say."I'll be going off with Kharyna, Sherra. Dungeon explorations are more my stock and trade anyway. I'm more comfortable there and I do owe a debt to Kharyna for my freedom."

"You know you can count on me for the duration Validar," Sherra will state plainly. "I have not forgotten what we had discussed and would not walk away without first exhausting all attempts to accomplish those goals. It will be sad to see some of our new friends depart, but each of us has something or someone we believe in that drives us to finish our chosen tasks."Validar will meet with Ivy and Grondar and Sherra (the two seem to be found together often anyway) and invite them to continue the good works they are doing. Jallazri--"Edwina is still sleeping off her latest tart binge", Jallarzi will answer. "I felt it better to leave her at home."
Lau let's out a laugh as he pictures Edwina too stuffed to move and says, "I see she did seem to partake to sweeter foods."
Spell stuff
"Faerie Fire is a fine spell, but Continual Light is better. While it may not illuminate targets at long range, it will last much later. The rest seem useful given our situation, Laucian."
"I will adjust my prayers accordingly for this night."

Chareos
Chareos listens to the suggestions of Jallazari as well as Validar. He understand his place among this group and soon replies to them, " I will adjust my spells to the role you have given me. Though I partly disagree with part of your decision. Of the spells I have I only recall of a few that may be used in HtH. These are Shocking grasp and burning hands. One of these as be elimated by our leaders leaving me only with shocking grasp. If I recall correctly this wand that I was given also has some properties that bestow the same effect of a shocking grasp spell. Would you wish me to still incoperate these spells in my suggested spells?"
"I will memorize two shocking grasps instead of one magic missile and Lasting Breath as it does not suit the role I was given."
Sherwood-"It is certainly worth a try. That is why you found the deformed holy symbols on those black robed priests."
"Then I will do so. I only hope its outcome will be of our desired affects."
Argent--Thank you", Argent will say gratefully. "You're a scholar and a gentleman."
A smile and a slight crimson color comes across his face. "Think nothing of it."
Argent-"Thanks. I hope I have something you can make use of."
"As do I, as do I. I only hope you find some spells that may be of use to you as well in my tome."

VALIDAR -
"I will remain with you, my comrades nay my friends. For this the best way to pass on Ehlonna's knowledge, find that which I seek and purge this land of what hinders it." For those who look into Laucian's eyes will see the fiery passion of his soul.
Validar will give the ranger a clap on the shoulder. "I appreciate your passion and your desire, my friend. I look forward to continuing to do battle with you and welcome your presence."
I would be honored to continue on with your band."
"Thank you for your kind words and for continuing to grace us with your presence. We have many dangerous foes and your healing skills indeed will be needed. You have proven yourself a worthy companion and I am pleased you will continue to travel with us."
Lilia - "I have asked to join Kharyna's band as her goals are more in line with mine. I have yet to receive an answer. Should she refuse, I would probably return to the Elfholds."
"I wish you the best on your travels, then, Lilia of Grunalf." Validar is not surprised to hear that the elf maiden will be going in a different direction.
Chareos listens to the suggestions of Jallazari as well as Validar. He understand his place among this group and soon replies to them.
"I will memorize two Shocking Grasps instead of one magic missile and Lasting Breath as it does not suit the role I was given."
"Perhaps you misunderstood the Lady Sallavarian, my friend. I think she suggested adding another Magic Missile, not removing one. HTH spells may be ideal, but the situation is not always ideal. I may not know much of spell-casting, but I know the effectiveness of a Magic Missle spell."
"You know you can count on me for the duration Validar," Sherra will state plainly. "I have not forgotten what we had discussed and would not walk away without first exhausting all attempts to accomplish those goals. It will be sad to see some of our new friends depart, but each of us has something or someone we believe in that drives us to finish our chosen tasks."
"I am pleased that you feel as strongly about our discussion as I hoped. t is always sad to see people move on, but our paths do not all flow in one direction. Thank you for continuing in our mission. I believe that we have an opportunity to change the kingdom."
She will pause and think a moment before a smile forms at the corners of her mouth, "Besides you will need a commander for the navy of the new empire you will be carving out, right?"
An easy smile forms at Validar's lips. "Indeed you are correct, my lady. Although Empire may be too ambitious of a word at the moment, I would certainly entertain the thoughts of the title of Duke one day."

ambition...
Sherra:
"But you may be right. Let us allow your enemies to sit upon the notion of you becoming a Duke someday and see how that unsettles their stomachs - before we reveal the TRUE plans you possess." Grondar:
Grondar follows the discussion between Validar and Sherra closely. "Hmm... This grows more and more interesting..." he says, more to himself than the others
"Seems all the more reason to have the widest possible selection of spells available, then."Validar wrote:"I would not be surprised to find monsters within the temple as well and will be preparing as such. While we have considerable power at our disposal, a well-working group can always defeat a more powerful collection of individuals
"It is certainly my intention to continue on with you, Lord Validar," Grondar says. "Short of my dying or being recalled by my priesthood, I expect you shall have to endure my presence for as long as you are actively doing good works."Validar will meet with Ivy and Grondar and Sherra (the two seem to be found together often anyway) and invite them to continue the good works they are doing. All three of them have been vital to our mission and we work well together. There are big plans in the works for this part of the kingdom and this young noble can use their assistance. We are under dire straits here and the Guardians can continue to do much good here in the western frontier.
"Unfortunately, I had no knowledge of Elspeth's previous experiences in this regard. It was not my intention to impune anyone or their deity, simply a desire to make sure that all angles were covered."Ivy wrote:"I meant no offense, friend Grondar. I believe that Azrella will see to it that this is resolved permanently. Past visions Elspeth has received have indeed completely solved whatever problem was at hand. I am confident that it will be the same in this case."
Ivy wrote:"I can destroy zombies and ghouls with just Azrella's word, friend Grondar.
Sherwood wrote:"While it is true that the swamp is an unpleasant place, it may actually throw things into our favor. As Lord Cavius mentioned, the basilisks are not adapted to living in the swamp as are most large monsters. I would imagine that even many zombies have fallen into the water and quicksand effectively sealing their own fates."
Grondar bows to Ivy. "My concern was not whether you could, but rather with how many at a time. However, Sherwood and Jallarzi have stated that the terrain will not likely allow many to come at us at one time - at least in the swamp itself - so it should not be an issue."Jallarzi wrote:Jallarzi begins to respond to Grondar's response to her critique, when Ivy goes first.
"Ahh, more information that I was not aware of," Grondar murmurs. "From what you say, it would sound as though there will really be little challenge for our augmented group. Perhaps a few should stay behind just to make things interesting..." he says with a chuckle.Sherwood wrote:"Perhaps temple is to grand a word to describe what lies in the swamp.
Grondar nods. "It will be done."Jallarzi wrote:"Those sound like appropriate spells, Grondar of Berronar."

Kylie:
"Indeed!" Kylie gladly shares the spellbooks with Chareos as they pour over them in search of new magics. Each time she finds one that she can master, she points it out to her friend.Chareos wrote:He exchanges glances at Kylie and says, "Let us see what mysteries Argent has uncovered that we may have overlooked."
Validar wrote:He will talk to Laucian, Lilia, Arocken and Kylie together, asking their intentions once this battle is concluded.
"To be honest, Validar, I don't know," Kylie says with a shrug. "I am currently torn in a number of directions, and haven't figured out how that all comes together. Hopefully I will be able to give you a better answer once this whole mess in the swamp is behind us." Lilia's reply, however, catches Kylie's interest and gears starts whirling in her head.Lilia wrote:"I have asked to join Kharyna's band as her goals are more in line with mine. I have yet to receive an answer. Should she refuse, I would probably return to the Elfholds."
Kylie is only too happy to let Sherwood renew the spell on her if he is willing.Sherwood wrote:During the day of rest, Sherwood will renew the Stoneskins on those who need them.
Kylie nods. She hadn't thought about the following evening. When the time comes, she will go outside with her mentor and cast each of the spells remaining in her memory, giving Jallarzi a chance to comment on each.Jallarzi wrote:"That is fine. Plus we can practice again tomorrow night after our day's long ride before we retire into the Mansion for the evening."
"Thank you!" Kylie beams. While she tends to be somewhat blase about the comments of others, Kylie greatly values the input from Jallarzi and is greatly pleased by any positive comments from her mentor.Jallarzi wrote:"That's very good, Kylie."
Kylie blushes. "I guess it's just a matter of what you're used to. I've been collecting things since I was very young, but the only experiences I have with men other than my father are the occasional groping lecher."Argent wrote:"You're a wonderful girl with a lot to offer, Kylie. So don't sell yourself short. I find it ironic that you are so blasé about breaking into people's homes, but get tongue tied while speaking to a handsome man. I'd definitely be more nervous when breaking into someone's house!"
"Yes, I'm quite looking forward to when I have the skill to learn more advanced spells. However, I'm not quite there yet; hopefully, I will be soon. Fly and Wraithform are among those I am most anxious for."Argent wrote:"You're welcome, Kylie. There are also some very nice spells once you can cast 3rd level spells to had too. Of interest to you should be Clairvoyance, Dispel Magic, Fireball, Fly, Invisibility 10' Radius, Lightning Bolt, Nondetection, Water Breathing, and Wraithform."
Acerion
Acerion:
"Why thank you, Lord Acerion", Argent responds with a slight bow. "Please forgive me if I am being forward, but you have the most enchanting green eyes that I have ever seen. I could almost drown in them."
Excusing herself, Argent will move away from the paladin feeling a bit flushed. She can't help but wonder if it was hot in there or if it was him…
Acerion will be stunned for the briefest of moments, but before he can reply, Argent has already excused herself. He will let her words swirl about in his head as he looks after her for a minute. Lost in thought, he turns and leaves..
"Sure thing. I don't mind working up a sweat with you, Acerion. In fact, I can help you a bit with fighting with two weapons."
"Sounds perfect," Acerion will reply and waits as Swanny retrieves her swords. He draws his one-handed bastard sword and scimitar upon her return and readies himself. He will not hold back anything in practice with Swanny, for to do so would dishonor her and her skills, and he is already aware of fierce a fighter she is. Even though he is lacking in skill with two-weapon style, he is still ambidexterous which will offset some of the disadvantages that he hopes to correct through practice such as this.
"You know my mind on these things Validar," Acerion will reply. "The two forts might indeed be our best course of action. There will be a need to consider defenses after we have reclaimed each area so they do not fall once more upon our departure. Do we have available resources for such considerations?"

"It may seem to be sensible to be ready for the widest array of contingencies possible and in a group of this size, the commitment of spell availability to those which may not be used, but could prove useful in the correct set of circumstances is one where they may not be watsed or needed otherwise. In a smaller group however, I have always taken the idea that each 'weapon' or 'skill' we have is useable and therefore limited not to a wide selction, but focused on those which we know we can make use of. There is no correct answer and experience is always the best teacher, whether or own or others."
"It is certainly my intention to continue on with you, Lord Validar," Grondar says. "Short of my dying or being recalled by my priesthood, I expect you shall have to endure my presence for as long as you are actively doing good works."
"We welcome you to continue with us, my dwarven friend. Your prescence is not one to be endured, but enjoyed. While we do not always see eye to eye, I welcome strong opinions and characters. I am sure we will continue to disagree on our philisophies, but we can do much good together."
"To be honest, Validar, I don't know," Kylie says with a shrug. "I am currently torn in a number of directions, and haven't figured out how that all comes together. Hopefully I will be able to give you a better answer once this whole mess in the swamp is behind us." Lilia's reply, however, catches Kylie's interest and gears starts whirling in her head.
Kylie's answer does not surprise the noble lord. She does not seem to have much direction in her life so far. "We will speak again when the temple in the swamp is cleansed."
"You know my mind on these things Validar," Acerion will reply. "The two forts might indeed be our best course of action. There will be a need to consider defenses after we have reclaimed each area so they do not fall once more upon our departure. Do we have available resources for such considerations?"
"Indeed, Lord Kalindor. It has been a pleasure to do battle with you and I expect we will do so side by side for some time, along with Lord Corley. The forts do need to be taken one at a time and likely before Ardelphia itself."
"As for their defenses that is my biggest concern. It is not an issue to reclaim them, but to retake them permanently. Corunglain does not have the men to hold them permanently, it would seem. We can augment that and I hope to offer some other options as well, perhaps with more poor people from Elcadan. Those who are capable of serving in the military would help to swell the ranks of those we can supply. Our troops can train them and perhaps we can develop a new town or two in the south of Stone Ridge for their families to settle. There are also mercenaries who can be hired temporarily."
An easy smile forms at Validar's lips. "Indeed you are correct, my lady. Although Empire may be too ambitious of a word at the moment, I would certainly entertain the thoughts of the title of Duke one day."
"Nay, my lord, for I feel even the word empire may not be ambitious enough for you," Sherra will say, trying to keep her smile in check.
"But you may be right. Let us allow your enemies to sit upon the notion of you becoming a Duke someday and see how that unsettles their stomachs - before we reveal the TRUE plans you possess." Sherra will say behind barely-contained laughter, but Validar picks up a certain glint in her eye that he dares wonder about. It is as if Sherra believes he could obtain all she has spoken of, if not more.
Validar pauses as he considers Sherra's words and he gauges the smile trying to force it's way out. "Your words are entertaining, my lady Sherra. And we definitely want to keep those TRUE plans under wraps for now. We have enough issues with the recovery of Stone Ridge and the plague that has affected all of Corunglain to open even more doors to trouble. However, those steps are also important to completing the upcoming plans. With luck we can pull them together." Validar has an easy tone as he speaks. There is no question that the man has ambition. The only question may be how much.
Validar notices Grondar paying close attention to the conversation, but does not say anything. "When the current situation in Corunglain with the Black Water is resolved, then we should talk again about the next steps to take."
"I would not be surprised to find monsters within the temple as well and will be preparing as such. If they are not there, then all the better for us.
