GM Notes:
Lyonessa:
Lyonessa casts Cure Light Wounds on Chareos, causing the pain in his leg to subside. The wound has closed itself.
Lyonessa will approach the man who she had initially hypnotized into helping fight for the right side once more. She will approach cautiously and say, "You fought quite bravely. Let me let the healing powers of Mystra repay such bravery you have shown this day."
The man mumbles his thanks and then stalks off before Lyonessa can measure the effectiveness of her healing spell. He goes to the side of Lord Cavius to await further instructions.
Lord Cavius:
Just then, Laucian approaches offering his healing arts. "We have a few clerics among our ranks, Lord Cavius. Laucian here, in fact, is a follower of Ehlonna. Would you be so kind, my elfin friend, as to assist Lord Cavius with his plight? The clerics Ivy of Azrella and Lyonessa of Mystra may also be comforting to speak with while we are here."
As he is introduced to Cavius he will bow slightly meeting the man's gaze. "It would be my pleasure," he says with a reassuring smile. "When you are ready, let us find a quiet place to speak and relieve the burden of your heavy heart."
"I would be most grateful, fellow follower of the Lady of the Forests. I'll be with you shortly."
When Lord Cavius mentions the destruction of the magickal brazier to himself, Lord Acerion and whomever else is nearby, Validar questions, "Is it a matter of physical destruction or is magic involved in such a task?"
"Is this brazier known to be guarded?"
"The brazier sits in my throne room, down the hallway from the entryway. No additional guards protect it. It is an artifact of evil, so perhaps Holy Water will help in its destruction. Perhaps removing the magic and then physically destroying it would work too.'
"You are correct, my lord. The Guardians of the Light have committed themselves to this task and just as we strove to free Rennydale from the corruption it was subjected to, so too will we strive to defeat the root of this evil once and for all time. However, we have traveled long and fought hard this day. Your hospitality would be greatly appreciated this night by our band. I am certain we could all use a good rest and a filling meal."
"Of course, Lord Validar, it is the least the people of Rennydale can do. But first I must release the prisoners from the dungeon. Poor souls who were unjustly imprisoned in my madness. They must be freed."
Eventually, he makes his way over to where Cavius, Validar and others seem to be gathering. "Lord Cavius, are all of those depraved priests accounted for, or are there still more lurking about. It would not do to leave any in a position to escape and report back."
"That is more a question for Lord Cavius I would suppose. He will know if they are trusted men who were corrupted or evil men who joined his 'cause'. In either case, we should make sure we round up everyone who still lives that may be a threat to us. I am certain that despite the effects of the battle, Lord Cavius' men a provide adequate security."
"The black robed priests number three. That one there was their leader. The other two were positioned on top of the castle towers flanking the entryway here. Entrance to the towers is just inside the doorway."
"I fear that I know little about these men, not even which god they serve. All I do know is that this god seeks to corrupt and destroy all living things. It seeks to turn the world into utter chaos. More puzzling was that they were not all that powerful. Only the simplest of clerical spells could they cast."
Those who go to check on the priests find them to already be dead. The first was done in by Lara's Fireball. The other has three arrows sticking in his body. Even stranger, these two also have unusual Holy Symbols. One has what looks like a rotted rabbit's foot hanging around his neck, while the other has a circlet with seven stars that looks damaged and deformed. Much like the symbol worn by the first priest in that respect. However, nothing on the priests can identify which god they actually serve.
Kylie floats down from the gatehouse and Talia and Sherra return down the front castle walls. All three women appear no worse for wear.
Overhearing mention of the staff and its effects, Grondar searches his memory for anything he may have heard regarding the destruction of such foul items.
From the description it sounds like a Staff of Withering, a foul magic item that can steal vitality from those struck from it.
The healing efforts continue thanks to Laucian, Ivy, Lyonessa, and Grondar. Those wounded among Lord Cavius' forces have been stabilized. There were several deaths among these forces, but no more will perish. Lord Cavius himself has been heavily damaged and need attention. Laucian cast Cure Moderate Wounds on Swanny.
