New Frontiers #19

Having dispatched the creatures sent by Auril to punish Kharyna, the Guardian's continue onwards through the fierce snow storm. Range of visibility continues to flux with the ebb and flow of the winds. Kharyna's Detect Invisible spell continues to run and it helps her see through the snowstorm. So far she has yet to spot any more of Auril's monsters.

Nearly half an hour has passed since you've set out again and the storm continues to rage unabated. Suddenly, Sherwood brings the procession to a stop.

"There's something out there," Sherwood says, but only loud enough for those in his immediate area to hear. "Be on guard."

"I hear something," Kylie will call out, her sharp ears picking up noise almost masked by the howling winds. "It sounds like-- like someone singing?"

Kharyna rides forward and something comes into view thanks to her enhanced vision. Peering ahead, she can see more Ice Warriors and Frost Salamanders up head. Perhaps twenty of the Ice Warriors and a pair of Salamanders.

They are currently engaged in battle against a small group of individuals. Only one of the individuals can be clearly seen by Kharyna. It is a young woman who wears the robes of a Priestess of Mystra!

Let it Snow...

Post by Kharyna »

KHARYNA -

Kharyna is pretty sure that Auril is up to something else, since the snowstorm hasn't abated at all. Perhaps there are more of her 'pets' running around out here. Kharyna figures that the vengeful cold goddess would probably let the storm continue as long as possible, but it would fade when her minions were destroyed.

Kharyna continues to scan the blizzard looking for any signs of more ice creatures. Perhaps there is a cleric out here controlling all this?

After some time, the rangers call another halt to the slow procession. Kharyna rides forward a bit, the white fur cloak blowing about her, but still unfazed by the weather. If anyone can make out something in this horrid weather, it is her, with the Detect Invisibility spell still functioning.

Getting a glimpse of the action, Kharyna will turn back to the others and call out, "There's a fight up there! A cleric of Mystra and others being attacked by more of the Cold One's minions!"

Unsure of who else is friend or foe from this distance, Kharyna will ride forward and let loose the Lightning Bolt from her Ring of Spell Storing into at least one of the Ice Lizards.

"We must help them!"

VALIDAR -

After about a half hour of riding in the blizzard, Validar sees the column ahead of him come to a stop and bunch up a bit. Kharyna continues riding to the front and Validar will continue, urging his mount up the left side of the column.

"Aswansea, Lara, you are the new rear guard for the moment. Keep your eyes open to attack from our flanks. And close everyone up toward the front. I'm going to see why we stopped."

As Validar reaches the front of the procession, he hears Kharyna shouting about more creatures and attacking a cleric of Mystra. Peering into the blizzard he can just make out some forms moving about and a strange sound playing on the winds.

"Take out those Lizards! They are the true threat! Corley, Acerion, Laucian, Sherwood, let us destroy those fiends! Do not waste valuable spells on the Ice Warriors, we can destroy them with steel easily enough! Anyone without magic weapons, take out those Warriors! Clerics, see to the wounded! If anyone can make out an enemy cleric directing these beasts, let us all know!"

With that, Validar pulls out his enchanted Mithril blade and rides towards the combat. As he closes in, he sees the Ice Lizards and heads directly for the nearest one. "Prepare to be banished, minions of folly!"

Acerion:

Everyone mounts back up and we press on into the unnatural weather. Acerion keeps his eyes moving, looking ahead to keep Sherwood in view, to his right to make sure Ivy is near, glancing behind him from time to time to see Kylie and looking off to the left to make sure no shambling ice warriors or any other foe is advancing upon us.

It seems like time has not passed when we come to a halt. Apparently a battle of some sort is raging up ahead, although all the participants can not be determined. Acerion sets his battle axe across his lap and keeps his eyes scanning ahead and to the left, but still nothing is revealed to him. As several ride up a bit closer, Acerion struggles to hear the information being offered:

"There's something out there," Sherwood says, but only loud enough for those in his immediate area to hear. "Be on guard."

"I hear something," Kylie will call out, her sharp ears picking up noise almost masked by the howling winds. "It sounds like-- like someone singing?"

Getting a glimpse of the action, Kharyna will turn back to the others and call out, "There's a fight up there! A cleric of Mystra and others being attacked by more of the Cold One's minions!"

That is all Acerion needed to hear, as one hand closes around his battle axe, he urges his warhorse forward to keep pace with Validar. He knows the battle will be revealed to him soon enough. Another group under attack Acerion thinks, it appears this mad goddess is not particular with who she attacks.

Sherra:

As the group gets ready to move out once more, Sherra rides around the edges of the combat area to see if she can find any of her enchanted arrows. She knows most of them are probably lost to the winds, but some of them struck their targets solidly, and if the impact did not shatter them, then they should be easily retrieved since the strong winds would not allow for snow to accumulate very quickly to cover them.

Sherra rejoins the others in time to fall into line and keep her keen eyes moving around. She makes sure to keep Po in view though, as it would do no good to get seperated. She also keeps her bow ready since neither she, nor most of the others, are convinced that the battle is truly over.

Within short order, everyone stops riding up ahead, and Kharyna and Validar ride off to the front. Sherra turns her horse to face outward, keeping the group behind her in her new position. She can't see anything that gives away why we stopped, and can not hear much of anything this far back.

It becomes apparent to Sherra within mere moments however, that something indeed is going on ahead, and so she wheels her horse around and moves forward, getting another volley of enchanted arrows ready. Since neither Kharyna nor Validar have returned to their positions, whatever is occuring must definitely be up ahead.

Laucian

Drawing his cloak around him for warmth Laucian scans the areas to his front and side. For nearly half a glass we proceed further into this unnatural weather with no shelter or relief insight. Sherwood soon calls for a stop.

"There's something out there," Sherwood says, but only loud enough for those in his immediate area to hear. "Be on guard."

Drawing his Mithral sword he watches and waits listening. As we wait Kharnya comes to the front of the column then passes the scouts. His eyes are drawn to where she is looking but even his elvish eyesight cannot penetrate this accursed weather.

Getting a glimpse of the action, Kharyna will turn back to the others and call out, "There's a fight up there! A cleric of Mystra and others being attacked by more of the Cold One's minions!"

Hearing her words he will move closer to where she is as Validar's voices booms nearby.

Grabbing his reigns tightly in one hand and his Mithral sword in the other he will urge his mount forward trying to keep pace with Acerion and Validar. He will follow them to the first Salamander, as he draws closer he will dismount {seeing how his horse wears no armor) and hack and slash at Validar's Salamander. If anyone is in need of healing he will convert his 2 entangle spells into CLW and target Acerion, Corley or himself if needed, backing off when he does so.

Chareos

The weather seems to remain the same and visibility is as bad as he has ever seen but still he keeps to Lilia's horse's tracks before him. The column halts and Chareos looks around for possible threats but the blizzard consumes most of his sight.

"Singing in this awful weather, surely she jests." he replies back looking for any shapes in the limits of his vision.

A bellow is heard from the front of the column.

Chareos urges his mount to follow the others. As they draw closer he can make out forms within the snow. Seeing the fighters go greet the Lizards, Chareos notices the Ice men ambling towards the other party in a large group. Moving closer he will yell to the others. "Do not cross in front of me!!! It is time they learned a lesson in fire." As he rides closer he will turn his mount and expel the contents of his belly at as many of the Ice warriors as he can. Afterward he will draw his Quarter staff and start making Ice cubes.

Sherwood:

Sherwood's ranger senses alert him to impending danger once more. He always did have a knack of discerning when trouble lay ahead.

"There's something out there," Sherwood says, but only loud enough for those in his immediate area to hear. "Be on guard."

At this point he can't be sure it is more of Auril's ice monsters or if this is new threat.

Kylie's announcement that there is someone singing up a head just future clouds the issue. How many monsters are there that sing? Harpies are all that come to mind, but that should be grounded in this kind of weather like any winged creature. Most curious.

Kharyna comes up front and reveals the mystery of what is ahead.

"That we must, Kharyna, but don't stray too far ahead and keep behind the front ranks!"

Before anything else can be said, Validar arrives up front.
Pausing for a moment, Sherwood will draw his shortsword and then pass it to Arocken. The sword erupts in flames as it is passed over. "You may borrow this for the battle, brother ranger. It will permit you to harm the Frost Salamanders. The more we can throw at the lizards, the faster they will be expelled back to their frosty home."

Sherwood will then join the others riding forward. He'll draw his own Wand of Lightning from his quiver and fire a bolt of lighting from it at an open lizard before going hand to hand with Lifeshield.

Corley:

The bad weather continues unabated as we ride forward. How much longer can this last?

Suddenly we come to a stop once more and Corley notes as first the fair Kharyna and then Validar rides past him. Curious as to what is transpiring, Corley urges Charger forward. He arrives in time to hear the tell end of the conversation.
"As you command, Lord Validar," Corley cries out as he urges his warhorse forward. He'll have Charger simply plow through any of the Ice Warriors that stand between him and the lizards. Once close enough, Corley will dismount and shoo Charger away. He'll draw his two-handed sword and start to hack away!

Ivy:

Ivy rides along shivering in the freezing cold. Between this horrible weather and the dip in the river back in Twin Fork's Ivy is ever so happy that she has been gifted by Azrella to not get sick. She surely would have had a cold by now!

Ivy looks about expecting another attack and keeps those near her in sight. The sight of Acerion riding beside her is a comfort and can't help but make her smile. Unfortunately, the weather denies casual conversation.

We come to a stop once more and Ivy figures that trouble is afoot. She unconsciously draws her enchanted mace.
"I can help in the fight!", Ivy starts to object, but it is too late as the riders have departed. No matter, as it will require reaching the wounded to be able to help them. Urging her mount forward, Ivy follows a discrete distance behind the fighters and will dismount before reaching the enemy. She'll attempt to find any wounded and head for them, bashing any Ice Warriors in her way. Ivy will Lay on Hands, not trusting her skill in spellcasting in these conditions.

Drawing her heavy crossbow, Swanny will urge her mount around so that she can see what is approaching the riders and keeps her eyes open for trouble. She'll fire a bolt at any approaching enemy before switching over to her Flame Tongue.

Seeing more trouble arriving, Lilia will dismount her horse and is determined to make a better showing then she did before. Using her Concentration skill, Lilia will attempt to ignore the chaos around her and cast Cat's Grace upon herself.

Assuming that succeeds, Lilia will rush forward and being to cast more spells as she approaches. She'll cast Lightning Bolt and Agannazar's Scorcher as she approaches, provided only the enemy will be affected by the magic. Should the Ice Warriors get too close, she'll cast Burning Hands on them.

If the casting of spells is not feasible, Lilia will use her bow, but again only on open targets.

Grondar:

The group draws together at Lord Validar's command. Running his gaze about the group, Grondar can see no one who is seriously hurt. Of course, there may be injuries that are not obvious, but all appear to be handling their wounds well. As there is little chance of any real healing being done in this weather, Grondar has no choice but to agree with the decision to press on. Some time could be spent bandaging their wounds, but there is no assurance that remaining in this weather won't guide them further on the dark path.

They set out, in the hopes of putting this unnatural weather behind them. It is not long before Sherwood calls them to a stop. Grondar peeks out from his hooded cloak, wrapped tightly around his body. The young scout, Kylie, hears singing above the roar of the storm - truly her ears are sharp!

Kharyna rides ahead, staring intently into the gloom. Her words tell him all he needs to know. While the clerics of Mystra are not as closely aligned with his own order as Azrella's, still, he cannot allow her to be harmed by these unnatural creatures.

Remembering his previous experiences, Grondar decides that his mace is his best option in this fight. Dropping off his mount, he readies his shield and mace. Taking advantage of the mobility allowed him by his new boots, Grondar runs in a looping approach that shoud bring him in on the side of the nearest ice-lizard. At the first opportunity, he will bring the mace down in a powerful crushing blow. If by chance any of the ice-men get in his way, then they will taste the power of his strong arms.

Kylie:

Kylie would have a hard time expressing just how happy she is to be leaving the site of that horrid battle behind. She whispers a quick prayer to Tymora that they be able to escape this ghastly weather quickly.

Unfortunately, her prayers fall on deaf ears. They have not travelled far, and the weather shows no sign of improving, when signs of danger ahead become apparent.

Singing?! Why in the name of sanity would anyone be singing out in this weather? This is beyond her comprehension, so she notifies her companions, hoping one of them can understand better than she. "I hear something," Kylie will call out, her sharp ears picking up noise almost masked by the howling winds. "It sounds like-- like someone singing?"

Her friend Kharyna soon informs them that a priestess of Mystra is battling more of the ice creatures. Kylie's heart sinks, as it quickly becomes apparent that there is much more of this unpleasantness ahead.

Kneeing her steed forward and trying to retain her position near the middle of the group, Kylie prepares her bow and nocks an arrow. Raising her bow in a smooth motion, she draws and holds as she takes aim at one of the great beasts. Then, her thumb still tightly pressed against the back edge of her jaw, she straightens the three fingers holding the bowstring and the arrow is launched forward at her target. Not pausing to see if her aim is true, she repeats the action with the speed of one born to the weapon.

Post Continued:

While traveling through the unnatural snow storm, the Guardian's have come across another band of monsters attacking a different group of adventurers…

Several members of the group surge forward on their mounts and quickly enter visual range of what Kharyna described. The first thing noticed is two of the great Frost Salamanders that you've battled before. The next thing noticed is patches of red blood here and there, along with the occasional dismembered body. Movement is noticed in front of the Frost Salamanders, their backs are to you, and you can see the dark blue clad Priestess of Mystra Kharyna mentioned. She seems to be down on her knees beside another person wearing chain mail armor. No further details can be made out at this time as to the person on the ground.

Moving even closer you can make out even more of the Ice Warriors, their translucent bodies nearly being invisible in the near white out conditions. Even their weapons are translucent and made of ice!

While Validar leads a charge of warriors, including Acerion, Laucian, Sherwood, and Corley, Kharyna summons a Lightning Bolt from her magical ring. The electrical energy surges forward, blasting away any Ice Warrior unfortunate enough to be between the sorceress and her target. The bolt slams into the backside of the Frost Salamander and gets its attention!

Sherwood draws his Wand of Lightning from his quiver and sends another Lightning Bolt towards the other Frost Salamander. More Ice Warriors get fried in the bolt's path.

Kylie fires an arrow from her Shortbow and strikes a Frost Salamander. She holds her second shot as the approaching riders blocks her view of the target.

The charging fighters gallop towards their targets. The Lightning Bolts mostly cleared a path towards the Salamanders, but a few more Ice Warriors are run over along the way.

Acerion and Validar close in on the Salamander Kharyna singed. A pair of sword strikes and axe blows later, the lizard falls into death and shatters into ice fragments. Once more the unnatural chill that surrounds these lizards is felt.

The other Frost Salamander is made of sterner stuff. It shrugs off a strike from Laucian and Arocken, who is using Sherwood's Flame Tongue for the battle. Grondar rushes in, moving nearly as fast as man on horseback, and smacks the beast with his mace. Corley steps in and cleans up what remains with his massive two-handed sword. This Salamander breaks up in its death throes.

Behind the warriors, other action is taking place. Chareos rides down the path cleared by spells and warriors and stops before a large group of Ice Warriors. He expels the potion he imbued during the first battle. A huge gush of fire comes from his mouth and the flames are hurtled twenty feet away! A large area is engulfed in flames and the Ice Warriors covered rapidly melt away.

On the other side of the path, Ivy blasts two more Ice Warriors into oblivion with her mace.

A bit further back, Lilia successful casts Cat's Grace upon herself and her agility is greatly enhanced.

Back where the procession came to a stop, Swanny, Lara, Sherra, and Talia stand guard against any threats coming in from the rear. Po hovers close to them.

Suddenly, Lara sees and hears something moving out in the storm. Her eyes look skyward through the blowing snow. She can barely make out a dark shape amongst the blanket of white. Her eyes follow the shape as it lands in the direction the four women are looking.

There is the ominous sound of gigantic footfalls approaching. The snow suddenly stops blowing and a gigantic lizard-like creature with wings can been seen approaching. It is easily fifteen feet high and over forty feet long. Amazingly, the lizard also appears to be constructed completely of ice!

It's head whips towards the women on its long, thin neck.

"The scent of the traitor is near!", the dragon-like construct roars. "Bring her forth or suffer the consequences!"

GM Notes:

That covered 1 round of action.

There are still at least a dozen Ice Warriors left in the area around those battling the Frost Salamanders. The Ice Dragon's arrival was very noisy and it could be seen and heard by all.

Curiously, those closest to the Ice Dragon are not feeling the usual fear that dragon's can induce in adventurers.

Lilia's DEX is currently 20.

Sherra found 2 of her shot arrows were still usable. Talia recovered only 1 of her throwing knives.

Current Hit Points:

Acerion - 20 of 40
Arocken - 30 of 49
Aswansea - 62 of 64
Grondar - 38 of 45
Ivy - 38 of 50
Laucian - 35 of 56
Po - 14 of 18

Tears frozen to her face, she turns her head at the sound of Frost Salamanders intent on finishing their task. "You will not strike dead this daughter of Mystra, foul beasts! Not this day or any!"

Lyonessa rises to her feet, standing protectively over the fallen body she had tried to heal. Mace in one hand, nearly frozen to her slender fingers, her other hand trying desperately to keep her fur cloak from whipping about in the fierce winds.

A noise, then several, not ones she expected upon this plain of snow and death. Horses bearing riders, several of them, as if from a dream emerging from within nature's torment, bringing steel and magic to slay those that approached her.

Tears of joy would form from her weather beaten eyes if they could, but there is no more emotion to give, grief or joy, at this time. Suddenly the dream is shattered as something moves overhead, commanding its flight in such unnatural weather. could it possibly be.. a dragon? but is it accompanying or hunting these saviors?

Lyonessa stands ready should an Ice Warrior come within reach - a bashing of her mace it will receive. She will tumble out of range if this dragon releases a breath weapon and she is within its path of destruction.

A Dragon, eh?

Post by Validar »

VALIDAR -

Lord Validar leads the charge against the Ice Lizards, proceeded by two streaking arcs of lightning. In mere moments these unnatural Lizards have been destroyed. Validar shares a quick glance with Lord Acerion as he stops to take in the scene.

Only one of the group who were being attacked is still standing. Hopefully the clerics can help some of these unfortunates, Validar thinks to himself.

Then something changes. Validar looks up at something unseen and unheard. Moments later, a huge dark shape crashes to the ground behind their advance, throwing snow into the air with its landing. Suddenly, the snow and fierce wind slow.

Lord Validar smiles underneath his helm at the sight of this new foe. While apparently formed of ice, this creature is no doubt a dragon, in form at the very least. Validar claps Lord Acerion on the shoulder for a brief moment to draw his attention to the newcomer, if he hasn't already seen it and rides forward at a full gallop towards the Ice Dragon.

"Mages and Bowmen, let that 'thing' have it!", Lord Validar will shout. "Spread out and do not give the beast multiple targets! We must take it out quickly and with all the power we can muster!" Having fought a dragon before, Validar knows full well the danger of a foe such as this.

Validar will take a slight angle to his charge to come up around the rearguard and try to catch the beast on the flank, but not taking so wide a route that it takes long to get there. He does try to give the others a chance to join his charge. The Ice Warriors are of no concern as he rides towards battle, but if there is a chance to trample any under his warhorse, Validar will not pass up the opportunity.

Once there, Validar will not hesitate to attack despite the inherent difficulties and danger in an attack that is even a little piecemeal. But some of the Guardians are in danger and Validar throw himself to the attack, lashing out with his enchanted Mithril blade.

This time the Frost Salamanders go down without much a fight. Perhaps they had been wounded while battling those other adventurers before we arrived?

Looking forward Sherwood can see only one member of the other party still on their feet. It is the Priestess of Mystra Kharyna referred to earlier. She looks cold and tired, but stands there defiantly against all odds. Looks like who or what is behind these attacks got their Mystra Priestess mixed up.

Now closer, Sherwood realizes that it was the woman who was singing. A spellsinger, the ranger/mage quickly realizes. A rare type of mage who chants their spells as if they were songs. That explains the singing heard earlier.

The Ice Dragon arrives and Sherwood's attention is diverted once more. This particular ice construct speaks and shows at least some glimmering of intelligence. That most be what is behind these creatures and attacks, are at the very least is the director of these forces. Take it out and that should be that.

Validar speaks up and barks logical orders, so Sherwood remains silent.

Thankfully, the winds have died down and Sherwood will attempt to make use of his magic. He'll slide off his horse and cast the Warm version of Fire Shield on himself first. Next he'll cast Fireball at the Ice Dragon, targeting the magic to explode just above the target so that those on the ground are outside the area of effect.

Next round Sherwood will cast Lightning Bolt, high again so as not to hit any of his comrades. Should the Ice Dragon remain standing still, Sherwood will cast Magic Missiles at the target.
I do what is necessary.

Corley:

"Verily, we seem to have the measure of these beasts!", Corley will say after the two fearsome salamanders are dealt with. "Well fought all!"

"Hail, fair maiden," Corley will call out to the Priestess of Mystra we seem to have just rescued. "We shall defend thee from this foul miscreants!"

Lord Corley is ready to begin hacking away the remaining Ice Warriors when the really big Ice Dragon arrives, lands, and makes his announcement.

"Nay, lizard!", Corley will shout out in response to the creatures demands. "It is YOU who will suffer our wrath for unleashing this unnatural storm and causing the death of innocents! The Fair Kharyna will not surrender to you while a breath is left in my body! We Sons of Cynalon fear you not! Have at thee, vile snowman!"

Rushing back to Charger, Corley remounts and charges at the Ice Dragon, taking the most direct path, but will go around any friends in his path. Once at the lizard, he will begin to hack away with extreme prejudice.

Ivy:

Ivy rides in after the charging warriors. She dismounts, grabs her mace, and quickly blasts apart two more ice warriors. The priestess notes the woman Kharyna was talking about standing over a fallen comrade, as if trying to heal them.

Seeing the smears of blood and dismembered bodies in the snow sicken Ivy. What a tragic waste of life!

The roar of the Ice Dragon draws Ivy away from the carnage. Ivy's first thought is to join in on the attack on the beast, but she hasn't taken more than a step before coming to a stop.

No, battling the dragon is not her place at this time, not with those hovering on the brink of death in the area. The teachings of her goddess take precedence as always.

Turning around, Ivy makes for the closest body laying in the snow. If they are still alive, Ivy will cast Cure Light Wounds on them to start with. If they have passed from this plane, Ivy will move on to the next victim.

As the riders charge past Ivy once more, she'll call out, "Give it a good one for me!"

Should Ivy get close to the Priestess of Mystra, Ivy will call out, "Well met, friend! Alas if only the situation was pleasanter. I am Ivy of Azrella and we will do all we can to save your friends!"

Lilia:

The Elfin Sorceress raises her eyebrow in curiosity as frost lizards are quickly eliminated by the fighters. Nice to know they are so skilled, but perhaps a bit too efficient. No matter, a new opponent arrives on the scene so the chance to make a good showing still remains.

Lilia will turn to face the ice lizard and then circle off to her right. Once a safe distance away from the others, Lilia will attack as posted previously: Lightning Bolt and then Agannazar's Scorcher. Use Burning Hands to keep any nearby Ice Warriors away.

"Swanny, I've got to tell you that I am dangerous low on useful spells under these conditions. Burning Hands is about all I've got left that is useable. Hopefully there won't be much more trouble."
"With a statement like that, misfortune is sure to raise its ugly head, Lara! Why oh why didn't they take my suggestion to go visit the tropics?"

With her back turned, Swanny has no idea what is going on behind her, but she follows Lara as her friend points into the sky. Swanny can't see just what she is trying to indicate at first; superior elfin sight and all of that.

Even better, this thing comes clumping up and starts to make demands!
"The scent of the traitor is near!", the dragon-like construct roars. "Bring her forth or suffer the consequences!"
"Traitor? What traitor? I don't see any traitors around here. Do you, Lara? No? Well, then I guess you should take your frozen butt and get the heck out of here!"

Assuming that the lizard doesn't move, Swanny will draw her Flame Tongue and rush the lizard, hoping to get a good hit in before this thing can do something nasty to us!

Lara:

"Lara, my dear, your talent for understatement strikes once more", the tiny elf mutters to herself as the Ice Dragon lands. "I think we have a big problem here…"

Being far to close for comfort to this thing, Lara will urge her mount around and off to the left to get out of range of this creatures attacks. Once far enough away, she'll draw her bow and begin to fire upon it.

Talia:

The dark haired thief's jaw drops at the site of the Ice Dragon landing close by. Her instinct for self preservation takes over and Talia drops off her horse and begins to run away from the dragon. After a few steps, the magic in her boots kicks in and suddenly Talia is cover huge distances in leaps and bounds. Once at least one hundred feet away from the Ice Dragon, Talia will stop and turn around to watch. She says a silent prayer to Tymora in hopes that her friends will defeat this monstrosity.

Kharyna -

Kharyna sees the Ice Monsters attacking another cleric of Mystra in the blizzard ahead and lets her companions know, before blasting one of the Ice Lizards with a safe Lightning Bolt from her Ring of Spell Storing. A moment later, Sherwood follows up with one of his own from a wand and moments later, the fighters go rushing in and clean up the remains. Kharyna starts to ride forward towards this other Priestess of Mystra when the Ice Dragon makes his grand appearance.

"I will assist you with the wounded, sister, but there will be more to tend to if we don't deal with this monster first!" Kharyna will turn her mount back around and dismount quickly as long as she is in range. She then will cast her own Fireball spell, also high (in case the beast tries to take flight too). She will then follow up with another Magic Missile if necessary, since it can avoid her friends who will be swarming the beast soon.

Kharyna will try to stay away from anyone else, as Lord Validar ordered, but will cast her first spell from the earliest moment she is in range and only then move to one side or the other, where ever there are fewer of her companions.

Sherra:

Sherra stares in awe of the sheer size of the creature, true dragon or not, it is one of the biggest beasts she has laid eyes on. Even the size of sharks and whales can not compare to the power this beast commands. Still, the bigger they are..

Sherra takes note of the wind dying down and smiles a devilish smile. "Not sure who you're looking for exactly, but thanks for giving us back the advantage."

Tymora smile on us, she thinks, and with that, Sherra will begin firing arrows relentlessly, using her enchanted arrows since she can not be sure how tough this beast's ice hide may be. If the shot looks clean and she can notice whether or not the beast has actual "eyes," she will aim for them. If it appears to be just one solid, well-carved sheet of ice, then she will fire into it without aiming for particular spots.

Acerion:

The charge and released magics prove too much for these ice lizards to withstand. Both expire quickly, and only a few warriors of ice seem to remain. However, it also appears only one of this other adventuring band remains standing as well. Acerion takes note of her strength of conviction and defiance as she stands over the body of a fallen comrade.

There seems to be a change in the air, and Acerion looks around, noticing the winds are dying down. He also can feel minor tremors in the ground and looks about.

Validar claps Lord Acerion on the shoulder for a brief moment to draw his attention to the newcomer, if he hasn't already seen it and rides forward at a full gallop towards the Ice Dragon.

"Indeed," Acerion replies, even though Validar said nothing. Without hesitation, he turns his warhorse around and breaks into a gallop. Staying behind Validar, he cuts across his path and angles off in the other direction to come up on the other flank. Acerion brings his battle axe to bear upon this dragon of ice as spells explode in the air above and around the beast and shafts sail overhead.

"Let us see if you are built better than your little ice brothers," Acerion calls out as he brings down his axe hard.

Laucian

As they charge to slay the lizards Laucian takes in the sight of blood and dismembered body parts which begin to turn his stomach. Raising his gaze further to the lizards,"Their lives will not be in vain," he mutters to himself as he kicks his mount harder urging himself toward them. Quickly dismounting he slashes at the beast with his mithral blade only to see it turned away by its hide. As he takes a tighter grip on his sword and is about to swing the beast is brought down with their combined efforts.

"Well fought my friends, now let us deal with what remains." As he turns to engage the remains of the icemen the sight of the blue garbed woman comes to his eyes. "Fear not fair maiden, we will make short work of these abominations."

Suddenly the snow and wind begins to die down followed by four loud sounds. Turning around and looking in the direction of the commotion, his eyes widen in surprise as he takes in the new arrival. The beast begins to speak:

"The scent of the traitor is near!", the dragon-like construct roars. "Bring her forth or suffer the consequences!"

and soon after orders from Validar follow.

"Mages and Bowmen, let that 'thing' have it!", Lord Validar will shout. "Spread out and do not give the beast multiple targets! We must take it out quickly and with all the power we can muster!" Having fought a dragon before, Validar knows full well the danger of a foe such as this.

Hearing the call to arms he will remount his horse and ride towards the dragon stopping 20 yards from the makeshift dragon and drop off his mount. Sticking his sword in the ground near him Laucian calmly but efficiently draws forth his long bow and knocks a +1 arrow, takes aim at the beast and fires.

Chareos

Riding in the wake of the fighters and spells issused forth from the others Chareos spots several of their translucent foes ambling towards what's left of the victims. "You will not complete your work this day," he says as he stops his mount and turns it. Leaning into the ice men he inhales and expels the potion from him and a large flare of fire issues forth from his mouth covering the area in flame. As the flames die out he can see the last elemental melt into the ground. A smile flickers across his mouth approving of his handy work.

As he turns his mount towards what remains of the icy force the snow and wind begin to die down. The sound of large, very large footfalls catch his ears as a makeshift dragon has landed nearby. Trying to calm his mount the best he can he surveys where the sound seemed to come from. Where he had been moments before with the rest of the column now stood a translucent dragon that begins to speak and show signs of intelligence.

"The scent of the traitor is near!", the dragon-like construct roars. "Bring her forth or suffer the consequences!"

"You will not have her while there is blood pumping through these veins!"
He moves slightly closer and stops and begins to utter the words to his Flaming Sphere spell and concentrates on sending it into the monster where none of his comrades will be affected by it. If the Dragon begins to take flight he will cast magic missile at it.

Such valiant ones before me. An experienced band they are, truly worthy of recognition across these lands. Keeping vigilance, Lyonessa watches the battle play out around her as if a well prepared play. Sadly it is not a play as many have perished. Without hesistation they charge off to battle the dragon. Yes a ballad indeed forms in my mind.

Should Ivy get close to the Priestess of Mystra, Ivy will call out, "Well met, friend! Alas if only the situation was pleasanter. I am Ivy of Azrella and we will do all we can to save your friends!"

"Kind words Ivy of Azrella. Sadly they have all passed from their mortal shells I fear. My magic could not save them, but yours may be stronger. I am Lyonessa, a songstress of the Lady of Mysteries."

Grondar:

With his Boots, Grondar is able to reach the conflict in time to contribute to the demise of the second ice-lizard. Corley strikes the final blow, and the creature collapses into a mound of snow and ice.

Grondar pauses to wipe his forehead, sweaty under his new helmet. Then, he notices the woman kneeling in the snow amidst her fallen comrades. Before he can offer his services, a fell beast lands with a loud whump behind him. Following Validar's orders most of the others turn to battle the dragon, which appears to be as much made of ice as the lizards and humanoids they've been fighting.

Hearing the exchange, and seeing that there are still some few of the ice-men about, Grondar makes a decision. "Do what you can for them, Ivy! I will see to it that you have the time you need!" That said, he races off to shatter the ice-men with his mace, starting with the one nearest the songstress and working outwards. None shall interfere with Ivy's work, if Grondar has anything to say about it.

Kylie:

The young half-elf heaves a sigh of relief as the two large ice-beasts are brought down swiftly. The feeling is short-lived, however, as a huge dragon - seemingly made entirely of ice - lands nearby. Her heart quails at the sight of the monster; the sudden chattering of her teeth has little to do with the wind or temperature.
Grondar wrote:"Do what you can for them, Ivy! I will see to it that you have the time you need!"
Hearing the dwarf's words, Kylie decides that joining him may be the safest course for the moment. "Let me assist you," Kylie calls out, trying to sound brave. Raising her bow once again, she begins to maneuver and fire at the approaching warriors of ice. This, at least, is a threat she feels qualified to do something about.
