Acerion & the Heironeous Temple:
The guards will warmly greet Acerion as he approaches. They will state that the High Priest of the temple is a warrior-priest by the name of Warton. Inside a lower level priest will show you to where you can meet with Warton.
Warton is an older man with long brown hair and a matching beard. He is dressed as a typical Priest of Heironeous in chain mail armor covered by a tabard in dark blue with silver trim. A battle axe sits within arms reach of Warton.
"Welcome brother Acerion to our temple!", Warton will say as he grasps hands. "What brings you to Elcadan these days?"
When the subject of news comes up, Warton will say, "There is always something going in on in Elcadan. Always some sort of political intrigue. There are so many fractions within the city that conflict is inevitable."
Here's a sample of some of the recent city news:
The feud between Zahara and Wooster seems to be growing more intense. Rats ruined much of Zahara's inventory of rope just a few nights back. The rope had been coated with pork fat to attract the rodents. (Both parties are the main supplier of ropes in the city.)
Strange creatures have been seen in the South Slums at night. These creature snatch up the unwary and carry them off.
With the reopening of Illefarn, traffic between that city and Elcadan has increased. Likewise bandit activity in that area is on the rise.
There are numerous reports of monster sightings and so on.
There are plenty of mundane tasks within the temple to keep Acerion busy for several hours. Most of those who call the temple their home base are off an assignment or out on patrols.

Edwina:
A loud sigh will draw Kylie's attention away from the spectacle. Standing in the doorway is Jallarzi, a look of dismay on her face. "I'm sorry for what Edwina did, Kylie. She should know better and is a cantankerous little beast. Go join your friends. I'll clean up this mess."
Grabbing a damp rag, Jallarzi will begin to wash Edwina down. "My mentor told me not to summon a familiar and I didn't listen…"
Grondar:
The rules are rather simple. Most of the small shrines are set up and maintained by traveling priests of that deity. The others are cared for by the caretaker. Only non-evil gods are permitted in God's House. So, if Grondar wanted to add a shrine for Berronar, he could, but he would also have to set it up on his own.
Sherwood:
Sherwood returns to the estate about an hour after he left.
"Galtman didn't have much to say about Artur and Arkane. He basically just echoed what the men said. They stopped in Elcadan, the leaders went off into the city, and then they left again. The pair didn't reveal any additional information.
"Oh, you may find this interesting, Jallarzi. It appears that Duke Coran has contracted Drakkimor to clean out Fort Runnels for him. He and his band road north a few days ago."
Dinner is served a few hours later and much of the evening is spent relaxing or in conversation. There's not enough guest rooms at the Sallavarian Estate for everyone to have their own, so doubling up will be necessary. Eventually everyone retires for the evening.
Edwina will barely stir as Kylie verbally lashes out. The little beast will let out a loud burp and then fall back to sleep.Seeing the mess that has been made and the greedy little vermin responsible lying amid the carnage, Kylie steps forward angrily. "Edwina! You greedy, selfish little beast! Those tarts were to be shared by everyone!"

Grondar:
Elspeth will consider for a few moments. "We have regular caravan traffic between all of our temples. A message could be sent that way, but alas the road is not always a safe place and they do get attacked by bandits.""I'm sorry to bother you," Grondar replies, "but I'm hoping you can help me. I believe my order's nearest temple is in Crossroads, and I haven't had the opportunity to report my activities in a while. Do you know of any secure, reliable means by which I might send messages and, perhaps, funds to our temple?"
"Pinstella's is a jewelers shop."They travel together with Acerion into New City. Grondar notes the brass plaque on the building, and asks Ivy about it. "Pinstella? What is that, lady Ivy?"
God's House does have a caretaker and that's about the extent of it. The idea behind God's House to give a place for one to worship a particular deity while here in Elcadan that otherwise doesn't have a full blown temple. Some of the deities here only receive lip service and do not have many regular worshippers. The founder was an adventurer who wanted a little place to pray to his particular deity while in town. In time other gods were added to the hall.Reaching the "God's House", Grondar dismounts with Ivy. "So this is the place?" The layout seems odd from the outside, but begins to make some sense as he walks through the long building. There are quite a few deities represented, but none of truly objectionable dogma. Grondar takes notice of the fact that there are empty alcoves, which seems to indicate that space is available for other faiths.
Grondar searches around, trying to find some indication of who runs and maintains the building. If he finds no office or caretaker, he will ask Ivy about it.

Next Morning:
Early the next morning, the adventurers arise to find that the weather outside has turned frightful. The temperature had dropped dramatically overnight and there is a light coating of snow on the ground. Nothing to seriously slow down travel, but it is an unwelcome sight nonetheless.
Jallarzi's regular kitchen staff prepares the morning meal and also makes food for the journey. After eating, it's off to dress for the conditions and make final preparations before riding.
Out in the stables, the stable hands have been tending the mounts since the early hours of the morning. Each mount has been groomed, fed, and their supply of feed replenished. In short order everyone is ready to go. Goodbyes are said to Jallarzi, Edwina is still sleeping off her tart binge, and the adventurers are off once more.
The day is partially overcast, but the sun can be glimpsed upon location. Travel is not as fast as the day before. By afternoon, it has clouded up once more and has begun to snow again. Travel slows considerably.
Suddenly the wind picks up in intensity and the snow begins to drift and blow. Visibility is dramatically reduced to just a few dozen yards.
"We better stop here until this blows over," Sherwood calls out to those who can hear him. "Otherwise we might get separated and lost in this storm."
"Be on guard!", Arocken will call out. "I thought I saw movement out there."
The elven ranger points off into the distance, but all you can see is near white out conditions…

GM Notes:
GM Notes:
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas…
Visibility is down to around 40' or so. Likewise the howling of the wind reduces speaking range as well.
I'm going to need the parties riding order too.
Now what?

Swanny
Swanny:
Getting out of bed next morning far to early for her tastes, Swanny looks out the window and sees the familiar sight of the white stuff coating the ground and groans out loud.
"You just had to say her name!", Swanny accuses Kharyna. "It snows every time you do that! Why don't we go visit your mom in the tropics?"
Assuming that suggestion is shot down, Swanny will bundle up for the cold day to come. She rides along with the others in a position behind Kharyna, unhappily. Most likely this is another attempt at the agents of that cold-hearted wench who shall not be named to get her revenge. So when the white out comes, Swanny is expecting an attack.
Turning around, she'll say to Validar, "Be on guard, Val! This might be an attack against Kharyna by her old boss. They've got issues and this is her type of weather."
Swanny will draw her longsword and keep one eye on Kharyna and the other will search for trouble.
"Why, Kharyna, didn't you know that opposites attract? No matter, he's settled down to a quiet life in Neverwinter. I doubt either one of us could stand that!"Kharyna will let out a chuckle at the thought. "I always thought he was more your type! You two had a lot more in common that I ever would with Daramos.
"Thanks, Grondar. And you're right. We've fought other humans, elves, and what not. A few bad dwarves shouldn't ruin it for the rest of you. They were just a royal pain in the you know what!""If there is ever anything I can do for you, you have but to ask."

On the Road Again...
Grondar:
Afterwards, he'll pause to write 2 letters. The first is to his order in Crossroads. It will describe his activities since he took the new assignment and of the successes their group has had. It will also tell them of the shrine he has set up and ask their help in getting someone to care for it properly.
The second letter is to the current ruler in Illefarn. He will introduce himself and tell them of the shrine to Berronar that he has set up here in Elcadan. It will include a suggestion that similar shrines to other dwarven gods be set up here and that those travelling through stop to visit.
When the letters are written, he will return to Jallarzi's tower. Once there, he will ask if she can have someone deliver them to Elspeth. He's not concerned with whom he shares a room for the night.
After his morning devotions, Grondar takes a look outside and notes the turn in the weather. Dressing extra warmly, he collects his gear and saddles up. With the sun out, he finds the trip fairly pleasant, and rides along chatting amiably with those around him.
Later that afternoon, the weather turns ugly, then worsens again some time later. Sherwood calls a halt, only to be followed by a warning from Arocken. Grondar looks around, but all he can see is snow. Moving far enough that Validar will be out of the area of the spell, Grondar summons Berronar's blessing [Prayer] down upon the group. If attackers haven't appeared by that time, he will hunt down Kylie and offer to cast an Aid upon her.

I have no idea if Sherwood's Stone Skin is still active on Kylie or not.
Grondar bows. "I'm sorry that you had such an experience. Hopefully, you will have better experiences with my people in the future.""Thanks, Grondar. And you're right. We've fought other humans, elves, and what not. A few bad dwarves shouldn't ruin it for the rest of you. They were just a royal pain in the you know what!"
Grondar nods to the larger man. "May your god guide and watch over you, Lord Acerion.""Much thanks to you, Ivy. I look forward to seeing you soon," Acerion will smile and bow his head slightly to Ivy and clasp Grondar on the shoulder before they depart.
"My thanks, kind lady," Grondar replies. "I fear that is as good as can be hoped for in these unfortunate times. I will provide you with a letter to my order before we leave town. Might you be able to get a message to Illefarn, as well?"Elspeth will consider for a few moments. "We have regular caravan traffic between all of our temples. A message could be sent that way, but alas the road is not always a safe place and they do get attacked by bandits."
Grondar will have a short talk with the caretaker to confirm the manner of operation and the availability of space. Since there are none others of his order to assign the task to, Grondar will have to take care of it himself. He will spend whatever is needed out of his own pocket [just tell me how much he spends] to acquire the items to set up a nice shrine to Berronar Truesilver in one of the alcoves. Once that is done, he pause for some prayers and to consecrate the shrine.God's House does have a caretaker and that's about the extent of it. Kylie:
Given a choice, Kylie will bunk with Kharyna or one of the women from her own group.
As usual, Kylie is up early. One of the nice things about Jallarzi's home is that Kylie doesn't need to cook if she doesn't want to. Instead, she spends the early morning hours with her spell books, reviewing in particular some of the newer spells she has acquired.
The day is cold, and Kylie is less than thrilled about it. At least the sun is out, so it's not a total loss. Since they are riding together, Kylie happily takes the opportunity to venture a few questions to Lord Corley. "How did you sleep? What did you spend the evening doing? What do you think of this sudden cool weather we're having?" etc.
After lunch, the weather gets worse; actual snow begins to fall, despite the fact that it is early afternoon - traditionally the warmest part of the day. Some time later, the weather takes a decidedly nasty turn. Kylie begins to wonder if magic is involved. Unfortunately, she has no spells that would tell her for sure.
Kylie starts to wonder if her magic detecting talent would do the trick, but her thoughts are interupted as Sherwood calls a halt. His words are followed almost immediately by those of the new elf, Arocken. His words indicate the presence of danger, and Kylie has but one response to that. Immediately, she begins to cast Blur on herself.
Kylie sighs. "I wish I was as knowledgable in this stuff as you. I feel so lost. Your advice seems sound, and I will do my best."Kharyna wrote:"I bet this Corley doesn't even notice that you get tongue-tied around him. Just keep the conversation going by asking about him and jump on the times he askes you any questions. Give him a chance to know you. It isn't an immediate process. The best relationships take time."
Kylie continues to steam. "At times I really like the little @#*&!, and other times I could just wring her neck. I'll give you one guess which this is..." Turning, she follows Jallarzi's instructions and leaves the room, though to find a quiet place to sulk rather than to be with the others.A loud sigh will draw Kylie's attention away from the spectacle.

Quit bothering me, Auril!
KHARYNA -
Kharyna will let out a chuckle at the thought. "I always thought he was more your type! You two had a lot more in common that I ever would with Daramos.
"Why, Kharyna, didn't you know that opposites attract? No matter, he's settled down to a quiet life in Neverwinter. I doubt either one of us could stand that!"
"Isn't that the truth. Our lives are nothing if they are not dull and boring!"
Kharyna will have shared a guest room with Kylie for the evening, spending some of the time talking and catching up on past events.
At one point, Kharyna will ask about the members of her group, but not so subtlely, she adds, "What else can you tell me about this Lord Validar?"
Kharyna is neither up particularly early, nor does she sleep late. As preparations are being made, she will head downstairs. Hearing about the weather, Kharyna will look outside and then proceeds there. Despite the cold weather, she doesn't appear to be bothered by the temperature, dressed only in a bright red silk blouse and dark blue linen pants with golden embroidery upon them. She heads out to the yard, bare footprints trailing behind her in the light layer of snow.
She looks around as if searching for something, a noticeably irritated look on her beautiful face and studies the sky.
"You just had to say her name!", Swanny accuses Kharyna. "It snows every time you do that! Why don't we go visit your mom in the tropics?"
"You know I would rather be on a island on the beach, too, but I made a promise to Jallarzi. Besides, some of these guys are worth hanging around with for awhile, don't you think?"
After all preparations have been made, Kharyna will say her warm goodbyes to Jallarzi and remind her that she is very interested in a mount similar to Farthon, if Jallarzi ever has a lead on a griffon egg.
Later, Kharyna will not be dressed much differently than before, except she is wearing a cloak of heavy white fur, but she doesn't seem to keep it particularly wrapped about her as she rides. Kharyna chats comfortably with her regular group as well as others riding in front, if they are ammenable to it.
Without much warning, the wind picks up and the snow turns to a blizzard to a white out. This seems to be a weather pattern for the extreme mountains, not here and immediately Kharyna suspects foul play.
Turning around, she'll say to Validar, "Be on guard, Val! This might be an attack against Kharyna by her old boss. They've got issues and this is her type of weather."
Swanny will draw her longsword and keep one eye on Kharyna and the other will search for trouble.
Kharyna will use the opportunity to allow Lord Validar to ride closer. She will attempt to stay in his vicinity if an attack is made. Kharyna will cast Detect Invisibility first (which I see also reveals hidden or concealed things) and ready a Detect Magic as well. She will also have her Wand of Fire handy.
Kharyna will let out a chuckle at the thought. "I always thought he was more your type! You two had a lot more in common that I ever would with Daramos.

Lord Corley
Corley:
Lord Corley accompanies the others as they ride into Elcadan. He has spent little time in this city in the past and finds it most disturbing. Each section of the city seems better than the one before, however. With only the small glimpse of the Northern Slums that he's seen, he can only imagine just how bad the Southern portion is.
At the Temple of Azrella, the sight of all the orphans can't help but tug at Corley's heart. At least they seem happy in their environment, relatively clean and well fed. Little Sephie is absolutely adorable!
Corley greets Lady Elspeth once more, having spoken to her while back at Castle Pyris before. She is a lovely young lady and perhaps the most innocent seeming woman he has ever met before.
Lord Corley is courteous to all the ladies and will properly greet Mother Boelle. For the most part, Corley listens as Validar reveals his plan. Or tries to listen as it soon becomes difficult to pay attention to the fine details and Corley's mind wanders.
Eventually, the meeting is over and we're heading back to the Sallavarian Estate. There, Corley will remove his armor and wear his uniform for the evening. He'll eat heartily at dinner and is content to relax and converse with others by the fire before retiring for the evening.
The next day brings the surprise of snow and there is a noticeable chill to the air. Dressing warmly under his armor, Corley will go forth into the chilly air. He is pleased to see that Charger has been well kept by the stable hands. Mounting up, we ride north towards Rennydale. Corley will happily converse with those close to him. Lady Kylie rides beside him and Corley is pleased to have her company on this chilly day.
"The weather today is indeed most unsettling, but not unexpected. There has been a chill in the air, but warm enough to have only rain. Perhaps we are experiencing an early snowfall this year as we have had the last several years."
The weather gets noticeably worse as we ride along until Sherwood calls for the procession to halt. Corley will call out to those behind them, alerting them to our coming to a stop in case they could not hear. Looking around Corley can't see much of anything in this blizzard. He'll maneuver closer to Kylie to protect her from an ambush. He'll remain mounted for the moment, but on guard against attacks.
"You are most welcome, Lady Kylie."Corley's words bring a weak, momentary smile to light Kylie's face. "I know not whether you are right, but I thank you for your words."
Still surprised by just how forward Lady Aswansea is, Lord Corley will decline her offer. "Alas, fair maiden, I am weary from the road and have other business in Elcadan. Perhaps one of the others will accept your tempting offer?"Swanny will laugh at that last comment. "Why Jallarzi, have you been out sneaking around without me? No, I think a little gambling would be a nice way to relax this evening. Too bad we have to leave in the morning. I'm sure I could find even more amusing activities to spend my time on. Anyone want to go spend some money with me?"

"I slept well, Lady Kyle. Thank you for asking. The evening was most enjoyable. I passed the time in good conversation with those others who gathered in the study. I believe a pleasant evening was had by all. Alas, I did not see you present."The day is cold, and Kylie is less than thrilled about it. At least the sun is out, so it's not a total loss. Since they are riding together, Kylie happily takes the opportunity to venture a few questions to Lord Corley. "How did you sleep? What did you spend the evening doing? What do you think of this sudden cool weather we're having?" etc.
We fight for King and Country!
Swanny
Swanny:
Swanny remains on guard.
"Perhaps another time, Corley," Swanny will say with a grin.Still surprised by just how forward Lady Aswansea is, Lord Corley will decline her offer. "Alas, fair maiden, I am weary from the road and have other business in Elcadan. Perhaps one of the others will accept your tempting offer?"
"I'm sure I will. Truth be told, I think you're the first dwarf that I've adventured with, so this should be a different experience."Grondar bows. "I'm sorry that you had such an experience. Hopefully, you will have better experiences with my people in the future."
"We could always invite a few of them along. Some of them are most yummy!""You know I would rather be on a island on the beach, too, but I made a promise to Jallarzi. Besides, some of these guys are worth hanging around with for awhile, don't you think?"
Swanny will mutter under her breath as Kharyna goes prancing around like it was a summer's day. Here she sits freezing and all bundled up and she's going around barefooted! I guess that's the only bonus from serving that cold-hearted wench!Later, Kharyna will not be dressed much differently than before, except she is wearing a cloak of heavy white fur, but she doesn't seem to keep it particularly wrapped about her as she rides. Kharyna chats comfortably with her regular group as well as others riding in front, if they are amenable to it.
Swanny remains on guard.
Ivy
Ivy:
Ivy will assist Grondar in his task. Since she knows the city better, it will make his task of locating what he needs easier. At last dwarves in town can now pay homage to Berronar Truesilver. Before nightfall's, Ivy will return to Jallarzi's estate. The gates to Old Town close at dusk and while she'd rather stay at the temple, it would be simpler for all for her to be with everyone else when they move out.
After eating a small dinner, Ivy will sit with the others and talk. Later she'll retire for the evening and has no preference for her roommate.
The weather has been unpleasant as of late, so snow is not a surprising sight, especially at this time of year. The priestess will bundle up and try to keep warm. She'll happily converse with those around her should they so desire.
Ivy can't help but chuckle at that comment. She has never before considered a dwarf to akin to a teddy bear.Sephie's reaction brings a deep, rumbling chuckle from Grondar. "Why yes, I am rather fuzzy," he replies as the girl weaves her tiny fingers into his short beard and tugs. "Kind of a like a living teddy bear, really." Grondar winks at Ivy.
"You are most welcome, Acerion. I also look forward to your return.""Much thanks to you, Ivy. I look forward to seeing you soon," Acerion will smile and bow his head slightly to Ivy and clasp Grondar on the shoulder before they depart.
"It is a jewelry shop, Grondar. A place for the wealthy to buy trinkets."They travel together with Acerion into New City. Grondar notes the brass plaque on the building, and asks Ivy about it. "Pinstella? What is that, lady Ivy?"
"This is it. I personally have not spent much time here. The gods enshrined here come in two types. Either ones actively worshipped, but do not have a Temple in Elcadan, such as the Lady of the Forests, Laucian's patron. Others are ones with few true followers, but who receive lip service or are here to be appeased. Such as the Lady of Fate."Reaching the "God's House", Grondar dismounts with Ivy.

Lilia
Lilia:
The Elf Maiden is content to spend the evening reading and chatting with Lara. She is pleasantly surprised to find that vegetables have been prepared in addition to the main meal, so Lilia will happily have something good to eat.
The sight of snow on the ground is depressing and Lilia will force herself to dress warm and go out into the cold. As the group rids off in formation, Lilia finds herself riding behind Kylie and Corley. Silently she rides along waiting for something to break the monotony.
The weather gets bad and Sherwood brings the expedition to a halt. Lilia will draw her bow and have an arrow at the ready. She'll scan to the left and to the right, looking for trouble.

Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!
Sherwood
Sherwood:
After returning to Jallarzi's estate, Sherwood will eat and reveal what little he's uncovered. He is mildly surprised to learn that Drakkimor has been hired to clean out Fort Runnels. Duke Corun always seemed unwilling to hire adventurers in the past.
Drakkimor himself is a competent wizard on the par of Jallarzi. His adventuring band is powerful and successful. No doubt the wizard's personal bodyguard, a menacing half-ogre by name of Gorso, will be close by. Other regulars include Crysannia, a high-priestess of Heironeous, Thorvid the barbarian, and the dwarven warrior Oran Firehammer.
After dinner, Sherwood will chat with the others for a little bit before turning in early in his regular guest room.
Next morning, he is surprised to discover that it snowed overnight. It seemed too warm for that happen without influence. The day seems to get worse as we ride along.
Finally, it gets so bad that Sherwood calls out for the procession to stop. Arocken immediately notices something moving around out there.
"Ambush!", Sherwood will call out. "Be on guard!"
He'll mentally command Lifeshield to go to full defense. Sherwood will look around for trouble and will wait until something is seen before deciding how to react to it.

Lara Spellsword
Lara:
Lara will indulge Lilia for a time, but even she grows weary of discussing things magical. (Who would have thought that?!) Lara will take the time to relax with the others and get to know them better.
Come the morning, Lara will memorize her new set of spells and discover the gift Auril left us last night. Dressing up warmly, Lara will ride off with the others and take a position near the rear of the procession.
When the wind picks up and the visibility drops, Lara has the exact same thought as Swanny, but is beaten to the punch in vocalizing it. Lara will draw her shortbow and be ready to fire. She'll close her eyes and try to concentrate on her hearing, hoping to pick up the sounds of movement out in the blizzard.

Jallarzi
Jallarzi:
"Certainly, Grondar. I'm rather fond of Elspeth and we speak frequently. I'll make sure your letters are delivered."When the letters are written, he will return to Jallarzi's tower. Once there, he will ask if she can have someone deliver them to Elspeth. He's not concerned with whom he shares a room for the night.
Jallarzi will chuckle at that. "Now you know what it feels like for me, Kylie. It is tiresome to go around having to apologize for the things Edwina has done, but then there are times I can't imagine my life without her. She is definitely something of a mixed blessing. Should you ever decide to summon a familiar, think the whole thing through very thoroughly. Please, don't let this incident get you down."Kylie continues to steam. "At times I really like the little @#*&!, and other times I could just wring her neck. I'll give you one guess which this is..." Turning, she follows Jallarzi's instructions and leaves the room, though to find a quiet place to sulk rather than to be with the others.
Talia
Talia:
Next day, Talia will dress up for travel and adventure. She slips into her dark gray leather armor, with matching gloves and boots. Her long black hair is pinned up to keep it out of her face. She'll add a dark green hooded cloak to protect herself form the chill. A short sword hangs from a sword belt and a few throwing knives can be seen.
When we stop and trouble looks Talia will grab a knife and be ready to fling it at a target.
Talia will enjoy speaking with Sherra. It's been awhile that she's had someone of similar interests to speak to and looks forward to future conversations. She'll happily share her room what Sherra if she so desires.Sherra will not depart as quickly as she thought she might, but eventually will say goodbye to Talia in need to search out Laucian. She will definitely look forward to having more time to converse with Talia in the future and will let her know as much before leaving.

Elspeth
Elspeth:
"I don't see much of a problem in that, friend Grondar. There are regular caravans between Elcadan and Illefarn these days. I should be able to arrange something for you.""My thanks, kind lady," Grondar replies. "I fear that is as good as can be hoped for in these unfortunate times. I will provide you with a letter to my order before we leave town. Might you be able to get a message to Illefarn, as well?"
How can I help?
GM Notes:
GM Notes:
With Ivy's help, a small shrine is set up. The cost runs 50 gp.Grondar will have a short talk with the caretaker to confirm the manner of operation and the availability of space. Since there are none others of his order to assign the task to, Grondar will have to take care of it himself. He will spend whatever is needed out of his own pocket [just tell me how much he spends] to acquire the items to set up a nice shrine to Berronar Truesilver in one of the alcoves. Once that is done, he pauses for some prayers and to consecrate the shrine.
Unless it is Dispelled, Stoneskin has no time limit to it. I don't recall Kylie being hit yet, so the Stoneskin should still be at full potency.I have no idea if Sherwood's Stone Skin is still active on Kylie or not.
Try it and find out!
VALIDAR -
Eventually, the meeting is over and we're heading back to the Sallavarian Estate. There, Corley will remove his armor and wear his uniform for the evening. He'll eat heartily at dinner and is content to relax and converse with others by the fire before retiring for the evening.
Validar and Corley ride back to the estate together, the others completing their own individual tasks. Validar will also relax with those assembled in the study for some light conversation.
Validar notes Sherwood's information about a powerful adventuring party being hired to assault Fort Runnels. Validar wonders about the abilities of this group. "Sherwood, how do you estimate this Drakkimor's chances at clearing Fort Runnels? Why would you guess that Duke Corun has hired them now? Fort Runnels has been in enemy hands for some time now." These events could bode well for their plans to liberate Ardelphia as well, or it could make it harder, if the humanoids at Ft. Runnels are driven back to Ardelphia or if they cause more reinforcements to move into our territory.
The next morning, Validar is somewhat surprised to see the snow on the ground. Jallarzi's staff has taken good care of the mounts, as usual. His cousin has always been an exceptional hostess. Validar will dress in layers to maximize his warmth and his flexibility as well. Over his armor, he will wear a heavy hooded cloak of dark blue with a fur lining.
Seeing the follower of Mystra, Kharyna, step out into the morning frost, the noble warrior is not sure if he is first aware of her beauty or her light style of dress. She seems well-suited to this clime, he decides, watching her for a short time.
Later she will appear in a white fur cloak and the image is something special. Validar admires the look of the wwhite fur and her own white hair. If only this woman were not a priest, he thinks to himself.
Swanny - "Turning around, she'll say to Validar, "Be on guard, Val! This might be an attack against Kharyna by her old boss. They've got issues and this is her type of weather."
Swanny will draw her longsword and keep one eye on Kharyna and the other will search for trouble.
Validar will ride forward a bit, using his keen eyesight to scan the blizzard for movement. Kharyna moves closer to him as well for protection. He will lower his lance and prepare to charge anything that moves.

Conquer or Die!
a chilly morning.. for some
Sherra:
Finally, Sherra returns to the estate and locates the room that will be hers and Talia's for the night. The two spend some more time conversing before deciding it best to get some sleep. Sherra still finds it hard to fall asleep with so many thoughts occupying her mind.
Regardless, dawn soon finds Sherra and the rest of the group. Sherra spends most of the morning composing herself and is thankful that her mount was taken care of by the estate staff. After donning her armor and packing the rest of her stuff, she finds the winter conditions awaiting her outside. It actually feels quite refreshing, although she dons her cloak in case it turns colder, but she is not in any discomfort in the chill morning air. It actually goes a long way to bringing her fully awake.
Once on the road, the weather does indeed turn worse and Arocken calls out a warning. Sherra quickly draws her bow and begins to look around, trying to see through the horrible visibility with only limited success.
Sherra will not have any objections to sharing a room with Talia. She will say her good-byes for the moment and find Laucian. After some target practice and conversation with Laucian, Validar seeks her out. Sherra and Validar spend some time walking the estate grounds engaged in private conversation.Talia will enjoy speaking with Sherra. It's been awhile that she's had someone of similar interests to speak to and looks forward to future conversations. She'll happily share her room what Sherra if she so desires.

Sherwood:
"His chances of clearing it are very good. Drakkimor's bands is perhaps the most powerful group of individuals in this area. The problem that kingdom has faced is not clearing these areas, it is retaining them.""Sherwood, how do you estimate this Drakkimor's chances at clearing Fort Runnels?"
"I'm as mystified as you are about this, Validar. The only thing that makes sense is that Duke Corun has learned some intelligence that indicates now is a favorable time to make the attempt. Perhaps not having enough forces under his own command caused him to seek out Drakkimor.""Why would you guess that Duke Corun has hired them now? Fort Runnels has been in enemy hands for some time now."

On the Road Again...
Grondar:
"However, I must admit that I am concerned by the lack of dwarves that I have encountered since joining this band. This mystifies me as I know that there are a significant number of dwarven adventurers in the world. I hope I will have an opportunity to meet and minister to some more of my people in the near future."
=====
Hearing Swanny and Kharyna behind him discussing the possible source of the attack, Grondar calls out to them. "Kharyna! Can you tell us what kind of attack we should expect: men, goblinoids, monsters or undead?"
Grondar chuckles. "It has been my experience - however limited that may be - that adventuring is always different.Aswansea wrote:"I'm sure I will. Truth be told, I think you're the first dwarf that I've adventured with, so this should be a different experience."

"Ahh..." Grondar replies. "Would that I had time to stop and examine the quality of their work. Jewelry and gemcutting - as I'm sure you know - are skills for which my people are reknowned."Ivy wrote:"It is a jewelry shop, Grondar. A place for the wealthy to buy trinkets."
Once the shrine is properly set up, Grondar will take the time to thank Ivy for her assistance. "I want to thank you, Lady Ivy, for contributing your time and knowledge to my cause here. You are a true friend, and for that I am grateful. I pray that what we have done here will provide some measure of comfort for those of my people who travel through this city."Ivy will assist Grondar in his task. "Thank you, Lady Sallavarian. And my thanks as well for the fine hospitality you have extended to us; it is greatly appreciated." Grondar bows to the sorceress. Suddenly, a thought occurs to him, and Grondar goes digging through his bags. Pulling out the purple pouch with the tigereye gems, he hands it to her as well. "This pouch should accompany the letter to my superiors."Jallarzi wrote:"Certainly, Grondar. I'm rather fond of Elspeth and we speak frequently. I'll make sure your letters are delivered."

What lurks behind those fakes?
Laucian
"I believe the experience was dealt with quite firmly and I honestly believe in time Talia will be ready to be more open," Sherra will smile.
"That is good to hear." he will add with a smile.
As they begin sending volleys at their makeshift target Laucian makes note of Sherra's skill with a bow and offers some advice when appropriate. If the dark garbed archer is using a short bow, Laucian will ask her to show her how to use such a weapon though he know its similar to his own.
"I really don't remember too much of my early childhood or of who my parents were," Sherra will start during a break between volleys. "I spent almost all of my years on the open sea, which is where I picked up most of my skills. The people I was with were not lifelong companions however, even if the lifestyle was quite exhilirating. Eventually I parted ways on my own terms. Shortly after, upon arriving in Elcadan, I realized that despite not wanting to be a part of that crew anymore, they had taken care of my every need, and on my own I was ill-equipped to sustain myself. I probably would have ended up within the ranks of an organization such as Lothar's if Sherwood had not seen my potential and rescued me from that seemingly self-destructive path I was about to embark upon."
"It appears we have some things in common. I too do not recall much of my parents, mostly fragments really. Though unlike you I was raised among the followers of Elhonna."
Laucian will consider what Sherra has entrusted him with before speaking. "Your recent life among the seas sounds most interesting. Although you loved it, it is comforting to see that you had the sense of mind to remove yourself from such a life. Not many would walk away from all they know for greener pastures."
"Sherwood was correct to offer this chance. You are an accomplished archer, seaman among other skills." He will add, "It's our choices that make us what we are and I am proud to stand beside you," as he lowers his bow and looks into her eyes.
Completing their practice of archery Laucian retires to the den and converses with the others until dinner is served. He eats a healthy amount of most of what's offered but eats mostly vegetables. After dinner Laucian will sit up near the fireplace speaking with the others for a time. He will retire for the evening and share a bunk with Chareos. After saying his daily prayers to Ehlonna he will go to sleep.
Dawn comes quickly as Laucian rises for the day. He notices the glow from outside and he investigates. His eyes widen a bit as snow has covered the landscape. He dresses warmly and places his cloak about his shoulders, once his gear is packed he will head down to breakfast and eat sparingly. He is a bit surprised as he heads to the stable and sees how well Starfire has been taken care of. He quickly places his saddle bags across its back and secures them as well as the saddle.
As they make formation Starfire lets out a neigh in relief and begins to walk in place. Speaking in elfish he tells his mount to settle. The ride through the outlying area begins too difficult even for his elven eyesight. He begins to scan the roadside as they progress. Sherwood calls for a halt in the column and soon after Arocken calls for warning! " Be on guard I thought I saw movement."
Laucian draws his Long sword and begins to scan the wilderness. In the distance he can see forms moving. At first he takes them as simple horses but then notices something very strange. "They ride on six legs!!!" he begins to squint trying to make out finer details.
Laucian will hold where he is and begin to watch his left and front flank trusting Arocken to cover the right and front flanks.

Snow!!!!!!
Chareos
Chareos sits before the fireplace reading his tome of magic as the day progresses soon dinner is ready and He eats a moderate meal of all foods prepared. After dinner he will say thank you to Jallazi for the meal.
As the night progresses he sits with the others and speaks sparingly and only spoken to. He will retire soon after finding an empty bunk and proceed to study his spell book yet again.
He wakes early and proceeds to get ready for the trials of traveling. Wondering what type of weather they will encounter he looks out the window to find it is lightly snowing. He gathers his gear and dresses as warmly as he can. He wonders out loud "How can it be snowing when it still is relatively warm out for now this time a year"
He feels himself on the morning's breakfast and thanks Jallazi for her kindness and hospitality. He is glad to see his mount has been well taken care of and makes it ready for the day, making sure to place its blanket on.
Chareos rides by Po and Lilia and chats with both in turn. Sherwood calls to a stop As the weather seems to be getting to its height of strength. Soon after the voice of Arocken can be heard "Be on Guard"
Chareos quickly gathers his lightning wand and thinks for a second about the weather.... He also reaches down and grabs a potion and drinks a draught from it. He than begins to scan his side of the column for movement.

On the Road Again...
Kylie:
Kharyna's question brings a snort of derision from Kylie. "Hmph. I find that man terribly annoying, like most nobles. While he has some good ideas and is surely committed to his cause, he's also pushy and obnoxious. Like many of that type, he seems to define right as being synonymous with his opinion, and anyone who disagrees with him as wrong. You could stuff Jallarzi's entire tower inside his ego, with room left over. Definitely not to my taste. Why? You have some interest in him?"
=====
Once her Blur spell is cast, Kylie will draw her bow and nock an arrow while searching around her for a target.
Having the company of her old acquaintance proves quite pleasant. Kylie is a happy to catch up on recent events in both of their lives and share memories of previous times together.Kharyna will have shared a guest room with Kylie for the evening, spending some of the time talking and catching up on past events.
At one point, Kharyna will ask about the members of her group, but not so subtlely, she adds, "What else can you tell me about this Lord Validar?"

Kylie sighs heavily. "I will remember your advice, Jallarzi. And when the fat cow arizes, you may tell her ladyship that I hope she enjoyed it because it will be a @#*$#@ long time until I cook anything for her again." Turning, Kylie stalks from the room.Jallarzi wrote:Jallarzi will chuckle at that. Please, don't let this incident get you down."
Kylie pauses, a little embarrassed, yet also feeling some echo of the anger she felt. "I spent a fair part of the evening baking treats for the group. Minutes later, I discovered that Edwina had eaten most of them and ruined the rest. I was so angry, I fear I was not fit company, and chose to spend some time by myself."Corley wrote:"I slept well, Lady Kyle. Thank you for asking. The evening was most enjoyable. I passed the time in good conversation with those others who gathered in the study. I believe a pleasant evening was had by all. Alas, I did not see you present."
"Ahh, you may be right, Lord Corley." Unfortunately, it turns out that Corley is hardly prescient. "Does the weather usually get very much worse up near Rennydale, or is it generally the same as the area around Elcadan and Pyris?""The weather today is indeed most unsettling, but not unexpected. There has been a chill in the air, but warm enough to have only rain. Perhaps we are experiencing an early snowfall this year as we have had the last several years."

Acerion
Acerion:
"Welcome brother Acerion to our temple!", Warton will say as he grasps hands. "What brings you to Elcadan these days?"
"Thank you for your invitation, and I must say these halls are quite impressive. I am only in Elcadan overnight as the road I am on extends northward. Eventually I look to place myself within the hordes of invading humanoids and drive that scum from lands that have never been theirs," Acerion proclaims with no wavering in his conviction. "Before embarking upon such a journey however, I have come to offer prayer and also serve in whatever capacity here I may be able to this afternoon."
Acerion will listen to the local news, but had hopes of learning something beyond the scope of Elcadan itself. However, it is entirely possible that some of the occurances may be woven within a more global, sinister strand and so he files away the information told to him in case it proves vital in the future.
Acerion will then help out with as many tasks as he is able before making his way back to the estate. He was fairly confident he would not find anyone else who was also returning at the same time, so he relies on the various landmarks to make his return.
Upon arriving he will spend some time with the others before retiring early. Upon entering his room, knowing he will be sharing it, he will meditate first for a short time and then inspect and clean his weapons and armor until such time as whoever the other occupant is wishes to retire for the evening and then he will do the same.
Rising relatively early, Acerion will begin making preperations to leave, enjoying the morning meal and inspecting his warhorse before donning his armor. He will make note of the snowfall and find it a bit curious, and will add an extra layer beneath his armor to help battle any colder conditions if they exist ahead.
Riding next to Ivy, he will engage her in small talk as they ride, asking how she slept and if Grondar was successful in what he wished to accomplish. As the front ranks are suddenly alert for a possible ambush in the increased winter storm-like conditions, Acerion will retrieve a horn from his pack and keep it near his lips. His other hand will slide to the hilt of his battle axe.
To those close to him he will proclaim, "Stay near me until after I have sounded this horn if we are to indeed go into battle. It's protective magics will accompany you even if we split up after it is sounded."
(If a battle does break out, Acerion will attempt to include as many as he can in the item's area of effect before sounding it)

VALIDAR -
"Sherwood, how do you estimate this Drakkimor's chances at clearing Fort Runnels?"
"His chances of clearing it are very good. Drakkimor's bands is perhaps the most powerful group of individuals in this area. The problem that kingdom has faced is not clearing these areas, it is retaining them."
"Then if the problem is manpower in holding the fort, why would you bother to clear it? If they aren't going to be able to hold it then the humanoids are likely to return in force, be more organized and more ready for any further attacks. The problem is that the frontier needs to be better defended and protected."
"Why would you guess that Duke Corun has hired them now? Fort Runnels has been in enemy hands for some time now."
"I'm as mystified as you are about this, Validar. The only thing that makes sense is that Duke Corun has learned some intelligence that indicates now is a favorable time to make the attempt. Perhaps not having enough forces under his own command caused him to seek out Drakkimor."
"I wasn't questioning why he hired an adventuring party, clearly it is easier to pay money to a group like this than risk your own soldiers. And if they fail, then he is only out supplies and advance funds. If they succeed, there is a full contingent of troops left. The question is how can they expect to hold the fort if there aren't enough troops to take it in the first place. If things go well, then some of the humanoids will be dispersed to the Broken Lands, but likely they will retreat to Ardelphia and other humanoid holdings." Validar shakes his head. He may not know all the details, but something seems rather odd about all this.

Hearing Swanny and Kharyna behind him discussing the possible source of the attack, Grondar calls out to them. "Kharyna! Can you tell us what kind of attack we should expect: men, goblinoids, monsters or undead?"
Kharyna yells back over the wind. "I would guess monsters! The Cold Wench is none too subtle!"

Post Continued:
The weather has turned foul during the Guardian's trek to Rennydale courteously of Auril. It is not completely surprising as the last few winters have been extremely long and cold as Auril has been taking out her displeasure over the Neverwinter situation.
Sherwood calls out for the procession to stop as visibility had dropped dramatically. A moment after that, Arocken notes movement from up ahead. Laucian spots something up ahead during a lull in the storm. Something that seems the size of a horse at first, until he realizes that it is ambling forward on six legs! It then vanishes once more in the blowing snow.
Word is passed down the procession and many go for their weapons or wands. A few attempt to cast spells with a variety of results. The sudden gush of wind ruins Grondar's attempt to cast Prayer, but Kylie and Kharyna manage to get their spells off. Kylie's form blurs, shifts, and is distorted to those looking in her direction.
Acerion blows his Horn of Goodness and those closest to him gain its protection. That would be Kylie, Ivy, Corley, and Sherwood.
Up ahead, the wind gusts cease for a moment and three horse-sized creatures come into view. They are indeed horse-sized and have six legs each. The are reptilian like creatures with white to bluish-white scales. Each of its legs ends in four toes with long claws. The creatures have bluish eyes and their teeth look more like razor sharp icicles than regular teeth. They are thirty feet ahead of the front ranks.
Thanks to her Detect Invisibility spell, Kharyna is able to make out many shapes in the blowing snows to either side of the procession. A small horde of humanoid shapes is spotted moving closer at walking speed. One fully emerges from the blowing snow and you can see what it is. It appears to be humanoid in shape, but seems to be constructed of ice! (You can see right through its body.) There are dozens of these ice warriors on both sides of the procession and each carries an ice axe, the chosen weapon of Auril…

GM Notes:
The current weather conditions does limit spellcasting a bit. Here's how it works. The caster needs to make a DEX roll to insure that they get the casting off correctly. (Only for spells with S & M components, btw.) This is modified by the how long it takes the cast the spell. The shorter the spell the lesser the penalty, the longer the casting time the harder it is to get the spell off.
Prayer has a casting time of 6. Take 6 away from Grondar's DEX, and that just leaves 3, meaning he only had a 15% chance to get the spell of properly. The others who cast spells all had higher DEX's and were casting spells with shorter casting times. (Kylie had 75% chance to get her spell off, Kharyna 60%.)
I've added a combat map to the New Frontiers Reference page. It's at the bottom of the list. I've also re-ordered the Adventurer Roster and added a few more entries to the People List. There are at least a dozen Ice Warriors spread out on either flank. They are very nearly invisible in the snow due to them being translucent.
Now what?

Icy Ambush
Kharyna -
Kharyna will yell to everyone who can hear that, "There are Ice Warriors coming from both sides!" She will then use her Wand to create a Wall of Fire along the front rank of the Ice Warriors to her right (as they were riding), right on top of them.
"Fire is their enemy! Any fire spells will destroy them much more quickly!" She will continue to yell, hoping that those who cannot hear her will see the Wall of Flame and follow the same course. "Blast 'em, Lara!"
After that, Kharyna will pull out her own magickal Horn and blow it, figuring that the more help they have, the better right now. She will then gauge whether to cast her own Fireball or not.

Note to Grondar: The current ruler of Illefarn is named Korin Ironaxe.

VALIDAR -
Validar is ready to attack to the front where the rangers have indicated a number of creatures are approaching. However, Kharyna then screams about warriors made of ice attacking from the flanks. Using his Keen Eyesight, Validar spies a few of them as they move closer.
Kharyna summons a Wall of Fire to the other side of the column and Validar will switch to his sword, holding his ground and waiting for the attackers to come closer. No sense in everyone getting seperated in this attack. Perhaps we can pick off a number of them before they even get to us. "Hold your ranks!", Validar will yell. "Let them come to us and we will smite them in place!" Validar will form up next to Aswansea if she is facing the same way and keep them interposed between the enemy and Kharyna. "Po! Grondar! Form up on my right!"
This should give a nice channel of protection between the 3 or 4 of us and the Wall of Fire for Kharyna, Talia, Sherra, Lara, and Chareos at least to fire away with magick or ranged weapons or both.

Kylie:
"As for Lord Corley, the behaviour I have seem from him is quite different from Validar's. While it could certainly be some kind of act or pretense, he appears to be far more humble and caring about us lesser folk. Time will tell, I suppose. Admittedly, his status as a noble is part of the reason I feel so anxious about exploring my interest in him further."
======
Kylie feels as though sitting on pins and needles, waiting for the expected attack to come. Suddenly, a gap opens in the white curtain, and she gets a look at the fell monstrosities before them. Kylie has a suppress an urge to scream at the sight of these horrid beasts - if beasts they are, and not some nightmarish creations of dark sorceries. Fortunately, Sherwood and several doughty warriors form a barrier between her and the foul creatures, allowing Kylie some small measure of comfort.
Kharyna's cry of warning pierces the howling winds about them. Kylie turns just in time to see the unnatural man of ice step from into view. A shiver runs down her back as she looks into the things dead, cold eyes. Movements among the swirling winds seem to confirm Kharyna's warning of there being far more of these deathly manthings.
With Lord Corley and Ivy to her left, she has some protection from that side. However, there is no one between her and the ice-men even now emerging into view on her left. Due to the battering winds, Kylie is uncertain of how effective her bow will be. Even worse, she has no fire spells available to cast in response to Kharyna's recommendation. She will have to do the best she can.
Holding her bow in her left hand, the nocked arrow steadied by her index finger, Kylie begins to cast once again with her right hand. Recalling the mystic sigils and intonations from her memory, Kylie summons forth a vast mass of webbing. Attempting to ensnare as many of the oncoming ice-men to her left as possible, she can only hope that it will prove effective at delaying them.
Kylie shrugs. "If you've already heard what you want to hear from Jallarzi, why ask my opinion? Take it or leave it, it's up to you.Kharyna smiles at Kylie's effusive comments. "Funny. You have some interest in your own noble, Lord Corley. As for Validar, Jallarzi has told me some about him while we awaited your arrival here. He seems quite dashing actually."

KHARYNA -
Back at Jallarzi's Estate -
Kylie shrugs. "If you've already heard what you want to hear from Jallarzi, why ask my opinion? Take it or leave it, it's up to you.
"I heard Jallarzi's opinion and was looking for yours, since you are adventuring with him. I think it makes perfect sense to look for multiple opinions." Kharyna will drop that line of conversation though, since Kylie seems a little irritable tonight.

While it could certainly be some kind of act or pretense, he appears to be far more humble and caring about us lesser folk. Time will tell, I suppose. "Well, I've never been too interested in looking at people by classes. Could be growing up in Neverwinter or maybe in a temple which caused that. People are people, regardless of their birth status or privilege. Having been to many different places in this world already, I can tell you that not everywhere is like this Elcadan."
"I think you need to get over whatever hang-up you have against nobility before you stand much chance to truly win Lord Corley."

Acerion
Acerion:
After sounding the horn, Acerion secures it back in his pack and draws his battle axe. He picks up a scattering of warnings admist the howling wind and knows that any serious group tactics are out of the question. Then he catches a glimpse of one of these warriors of ice moving towards their column on the left. Acerion turns his warhorse and begins to move out a bit in front of Kylie to face it. However he gives pause because he thinks he heard her say something. Turning in his saddle, he sees Kylie focusing on casting a spell.
Acerion will wait until the spell is cast and then move slightly in front of Kylie (which 'front' in this case is actually to the left, between the attackers and the group). Depending on the spell's effect, he will hold his ground and face off against the closest ice warrior that threatens this section of the riding column. He will attempt to keep himself between any ice warriors and Kylie so that she may cast any magics that might prove useful or attempt her bow.

On the Road Again
Grondar:
Try though he might, the wind proves too violent for prayers to his peaceful deity, ruining his casting. Grumbling unhappily, Grondar reconsiders the situation. Strange white lizards have appeared to block their path forward. Moments later, Kharyna calls out a warning even as a mockery of life appears from the swirling snow. Monsters is right, he thinks to himself.
Under the circumstances, attempting another spell seems like a bad idea. As more of the icy beings come into view, Grondar tries to decide between his crossbow and mace. A wall of flame springs up amidst the creatures to his right. One or more horns call out from within the group, and then Validar's voice can be heard amidst the silence that follows. His orders make the decision for Grondar.
Turning his horse to the left, he moves over until he is lined up with Lord Validar, about 10 feet to the side. Pausing, he prepares his shield and mace for the battle to come.

When I posted for Kylie, I didn't want to assume that Kharyna's spell worked. I don't know whether the weather affects the use of her wand in the same way as other spells.

Re: On the Road Again
Quick note here. Wands will work just fine. It's a case of utter command word and point. Spells that involve the manipulation of material components and specfic hand gestures are what can be affected by the high winds. So any spell without M & S components can be cast without penalty.fanchergw wrote:When I posted for Kylie, I didn't want to assume that Kharyna's spell worked. Try it and find out!
Chareos
Chareos begins to scan the flank as time slowly passes by Kharyna yells.
"Fire is their enemy! Any fire spells will destroy them much more quickly!"
Chareos continues to scan the flanks as a man of ice and frost walks from the blizzard. He pauses for a moment taking in what is happening. Its featureless body moving ever closer to their position. In its hand an axe apparently made of ice as well.
Chareos begins to look around as orders are shouted. Seeing a few of the Icemen coming into range through the flickering flames of the fire wall, he calls for the others to stay back but just a moment. "Hold your ground! I have a surprise for our icy fiends." He will turn his mount to the right and take a few steps to make sure no one is in front of him(and not to close to the fire wall if I'm reading this right.} He will lean into the oncoming foes {on columns right) and Expel the contains of what he drank. Afterward he will gauge if he can get a Flaming Sphere spell off.

a cold plan...
Sherra:
Well this definitely isn't the type of conditions I'm best suited for fighting in Sherra thinks to herself. She's more worried about the winds than anything else, as her main form of attack relies on more co-operating elements. Still, though she will give the bow and her skill the benefit of the doubt and notch an enchanted arrow. Might as well use as much aid as possible.
Sherra will wait until the range is as good as it can be to cut down on the chances for a strong wind gust to knock her aim off and will fire into the first ice warrior that none of the others are currently engaging, especially if the enemy continues to close from multiple sides.
Sherra will use enchanted arrows for her first two volleys [i.e. first two combat rounds], but by waiting to fire at such shortened ranges, she may not be able to fire more than that without being engaged in melee.

My what big teeth you have
Laucian
As the others shout warnings and look around for danger, Laucian watches through the veil of snow. Creatures that he has never seen emerge from blizzard. His eyes widen and he feels a shiver run down his spine as three white scaled creatures with powerful and deadly claws come to his view. Its bluish eyes penetrate the billowing snow and its icicle fangs come into view. In elvish he mutters "Ehlonna help us." As the three lizards amble forward Laucian will begin to chant the words to his Flame Blade spell. (if the spell is successful he will sheathe his sword.}

Ivy
Ivy:
Ivy will happily chat with Lord Acerion as they ride along.
"I slept fairly well, Lord Acerion. The beds at Jallarzi's estate are most comfortable. Far better than most places I have ever rested. It was good to visit my home temple again. I've spent most of my life there. It may not look like much, but it is home."
"Grondar did most of the work, but I did help a little. Mainly knowing where to find the items he needed to complete his shrine. There is some overlapping between his deity Berronar Truesilver and Azrella, so it was a pleasure to assist."
"What about you, Lord Acerion? How was your visit to Heironeous's temple? From what I gather, you are not from the Elcadan area? Where do you call your home? For some reason, I get the impression that you're not from this part of Cynalon."
Ivy finds herself quite interested in this Lord Acerion. He's polite and well spoken. Since he is a paladin as herself, Ivy has a very good idea just how much drive and dedication it took to reach his position. She feels most comfortable having him by her side.
When the ambush begins, Ivy hears Acerion mention something about staying close to him and so she does. She is unsure what blowing that horn will do, but trusts Acerion that it will be a beneficial affect.
Suddenly a Wall of Fire erupts on her right side. She can vaguely make out shapes coming through the wall and then they seem to melt from the exposure.
Since these things are not human, Ivy has no fear in attacking them. She'll slip down from her horse and brandish her mace before her. She'll watch her back, the side with the Wall of Fire on it, to make sure no one sneaks up behind her, but otherwise will move to engage the ice men on the other side of the column.
"Indeed they are, Grondar. In fact for many years the finest gem cutter in Elcadan was a dwarf by the name of Dorshak Krane. From what I heard he disappeared into seclusion and hasn't been heard since. Unfortunately, my knowledge of current events is not as good as it could be.""Ahh..." Grondar replies. "Would that I had time to stop and examine the quality of their work. Jewelry and gem cutting - as I'm sure you know - are skills for which my people are renowned."
"It was my pleasure, Grondar. Our orders are fairly close to each other, so I am sure that Azrella would be pleased to assist Berronar. I am sure that your brethren will find the shrine to be a great comfort."Once the shrine is properly set up, Grondar will take the time to thank Ivy for her assistance. "I want to thank you, Lady Ivy, for contributing your time and knowledge to my cause here. You are a true friend, and for that I am grateful. I pray that what we have done here will provide some measure of comfort for those of my people who travel through this city."

For the glory of the Blue Lady!
Corley
Corley:
Corley strains to see what is going on when the procession comes to a stop. He can't see much from his position, but knows something is going on. Lord Acerion blows a horn and some magic comes over Corley that he cannot fathom. A fiery wall appears on his right side and for a brief instant. Whatever is transpiring, Corley knows that it is time for battle!
He'll slide off his horse and draw his two-handed sword and rush to his left, between Lilia and Kylie.
"Stay behind me, ladies and I will hold the miscreants off!"
Corley will strike the first foe that he sees.
"I am sorry to hear that, milady. Alas, Lady Sallavarian's familiar seems something of a pest. She was barred from the kitchen at Castle Pyris for much the same reasons. It is a pity as I am sure your treats would have been most tasty as usual."Kylie pauses, a little embarrassed, yet also feeling some echo of the anger she felt. "I spent a fair part of the evening baking treats for the group. Minutes later, I discovered that Edwina had eaten most of them and ruined the rest. I was so angry, I fear I was not fit company, and chose to spend some time by myself."
"I would imagine that the weather is similar, Lady Kylie. The last few winters have been most unpleasant. Many say because the Cold Goddess has been unleashing her displeasure on the world for what happened in Neverwinter. It seems that Lady Kharyna was responsible for that displeasure, not that I find her actions disagreeable. Alas, it is something we mere mortals will have to endure.""Ahh, you may be right, Lord Corley." Unfortunately, it turns out that Corley is hardly prescient. "Does the weather usually get very much worse up near Rennydale, or is it generally the same as the area around Elcadan and Pyris?"

Lara Spellsword
Lara:
Before:
While back at Jallarzi's home, Lara will try to at least say hello to everyone else. Special targets would be the other elves, which would be Laucian, and the other mages, which would be Chareos and Kylie.
Lara will relax with the others and sip wine as they converse. She'll offer the occasional wry comment, but does not come across as having much of an attitude.
Now:
Lara hears Kharyna's comments about the enemy being vulnerable to fire and that she should blast them and complies. She'll set her bow aside and then cast Fireball into the densest concentration of snowmen.

Swanny
Swanny:
"Yeah, Kharyna, I figured that fire would ruin Frost Butt's goons day."
Swanny will slide off her horse and step in front of Kharyna and get ready for hand to hand combat. She notes Validar stepping up beside her.
"Looks like we get to see what each other is made of pretty quickly here!"
Drawing her sword, Swanny will cry out, "Flame on!". In response, the blade of her longsword erupts into flames.
"Come on over here, ice guys! This'll be like a hot knife through butter!"
Hack and slash soon follows.

Lilia
Lilia:
Lilia has no problem with chatting to Chareos as they ride along.
Finally, the attackers show themselves. What an odd combination of creatures! Some type of snow lizard and animated ice men! Most fitting for a goddess of cold, I guess.
So many targets, but who to choose?
Seeing a fiery wall blocking off the ice men on the right side and with numerous others targeting those on the left, Lilia looks forward to the approaching lizards. She'll chant the words to her Fireball spell and cast it on the lizards, making sure that the front ranks are outside the area of effect.

Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!
Sherwood
Sherwood:
Quickly accessing that the lizards are probably the most dangerous of the bunch, Sherwood will concentrate his efforts upon them. With the high winds seriously hindering spellcasting, Sherwood will reach back and pull a wand out of his magic quiver.
Grasping his Wand of Lightning, Sherwood will send a Lightning bolt towards the lizard on the farthest right. Next will he dismount and draw his swords. He'll mentally shift Lifeshield into full offensive mode and also draw his shortsword. The shortsword bursts into flames after being drawn.
He'll target the lizard furthest on the right and work his way from right to left.

I do what is necessary.
