Lily:
While Rose practices her flying about the apartment, Lily checks the Internet for more information on Sanctuary. Running a Google search brings up the desired link.
Sanctuary is located on a small south pacific island in the region of Tahiti. It was original founded by the Golden Age Hero Hyperion as a sort of Gentleman's Club for the superpowered set. In time it became much more than that.
Sanctuary is considered a nation unto itself by the UN and is neutral ground in the sense that all paranormals are welcome, regardless of what side of the law they are on. However, it is possible for one to be barred from Sanctuary for breaking the rules. Sanctuary is run as if it was a non-profit organization. Donations are always welcomed.
Sanctuary currently offers several important services to paranormals with physical, emotional, or legal troubles. The staff includes professionals in several fields such as medicine, psychology, and law. They even running a training school for those with superpowers dubbed the Young Champions program. There is also an education system with numerous classes held covering a variety of areas of interest to those with superhuman abilities.
There are numerous links and email address on the page depending on what you are looking for. Topics include how to get to Sanctuary, a visitor questionnaire/membership application, legal questions, medical questions, and a list of the current classes, and the various recreational activities to be had on Sanctuary.
Of particular interest is a page that covers some basic steps if you believe you are exhibiting superpowers for the first time. The first thing is do not panic. If your powers appear to be destructive in nature, then move to an area where you cannot harm others. Either contact Sanctuary or one of the listed hero teams in your area for assistance. (The closest hero teams to San Diego would include: Los Angeles: the Defenders, Freedom Squad, & X-Factor; San Francisco: the Protectors; and Dallas: the Superior Seven.)
From there, some general advice on how to safely test new abilities is covered. If the powers are physical in nature, then they advise standing before a mirror to see any visible changes. Most powers are intuitive in nature, meaning that using them is more of a natural reflex action then a directed command at first. Usually powers require more concentration to use at the start then once you become comfortable with them.
Vigilant:
Back out on the island, the rest of the Vigilant are discussing the castle and returning to the Mainland. The PRIMUS contingent departs after the inspection of the castle and predictably they find nothing out of the ordinary. They will return later to erect a light at the highest point to serve as a warning beacon to ships and airplanes. Generators will be provided as well and wired to serve as a power source for the Sanctuary contingent once they arrive.
Thanks to Flux's explorations, the group now believes that the castle and the entire island are a living being of some type. Serena attempts to heal the creature, believing it to have been wounded. She starts to head to the basement until Eldrich points out that it was wounded by the Black Magus' attack up here in the main hallway.
Serena estimates where the wound occurred and casts her healing magic at that point. There is no noticeable effect.
Undaunted, Serena heads down to the basement to a location close to the center of the creature. In this case, the medieval dungeon in the castle's lower level. Again she invokes her healing magic.
While there is no obvious indication that her spell was successful, Serena does sense something. The presence she felt before has returned! It's nowhere and everywhere at once.
A few moments pass. Those attempting to communicate with the strange being receive no answer. Suddenly, a small telescopic arm emerges from the ceiling. A thin, but wide beam of light comes from the end of the telescopic arm. This light is rapidly run up and down each person present, but does not harm anyone in any way.
Just as fast as the arm appeared, it retracts into the ceiling once more and the opening seals up again. While everyone is recovering from that unexpected event, the floor underneath Goldstar opens up and the gold-skinned heroine falls in! The opening seals itself up again after Goldstar passes through it.

Frostbite would find 9 volt batteries inside the fried radios. The EM Pulse only destroys electronics, not batteries as those generate current by way of a chemical reaction.

Desperately Seeking Sanctuary
Lily:
Finding the Sanctuary web site is something of a relief for Lily, and helps to set aside her anxiety somewhat. For whatever reason, she feels more comfortable with the idea of contacting them directly, than one of the hero teams in the area - of which there is now a new one, The Vigilant.
Three sections of the web site are of particular interest, and Lily reads through them thoroughly. The Young Champions programs could prove very helpful. She will read whatever information is available regarding this program, including age limits - both upper and lower. Optimally, they can help both Lily and Rose. She also wants to make sure that they do not function as a hero team, but only participate in controlled training activities.
Secondly, Lily reads through the pages regarding what classes are available. It might be prudent to learn as much about life as a metahuman as possible.
Lastly, she gives the pages on testing your powers a careful read and takes copious notes.

Serena has the healing touch

Last Time:
At Eldrich's question about the number of hours in a day, Serena will add, " I do not know exactly myself. Only sorcerers had such exact ways of measuring the passage of time. It was not critical for my duties to know such things."
Serena casts her first healing spell without any visible effect. Given the sheer size of this creature, its difficult to know how much healing it will need. Moving down into the basement, Serena casts a second heal in the belly of the beast. This time she gets results and can sense its life presence!
"Be on guard, my friends! The creature has awakened from its slumber! I do not sense maliciousness on its part."
Still, Serena grabs the hilt of Blessed Salvation and has her blade at the ready. Then arm comes down from the ceiling and shines its strange light upon us. Serena has no idea what that was about.
Suddenly, Goldstar drops through the floor and vanishes! "What trickery is this?!" Serena draws her blade and holds it before her. "What have you done to our friend?"
Before Serena can say anything else, Flux drops through the floor in pursuit. Unsure what to do, Serena holds her actions waiting to see what happens next.
Last Time:
"What is this?", the Knight asks inquisitively. She has never seen anything before like this! Serena can't help but stare at it in child-like amazement. "What interesting magic this is."Flux unstraps a Timex from his wrist and gives it to Serena.
"The longer arm marks the minutes, every quarter circle is fifteen. The shorter arm marks hours. There are sixty minutes in each hour."
"An excellent suggestion, Lord Eldrich. So shall it be.""Lady Serena if you wish to heal the castle's injuries I can suggest this main hallway as a place to start. As I recall the Black Magus' blast struck the ceiling and caused the entire 'structure' to shudder in pain."

Goldstar in Wonderland!
Goldstar:
Goldstar watches with almost childlike interest as Serena works her voodoo. She follows the others as they go down into the basement. After the second heal spell, Serena alerts us that the castle is waking up.
"Hello? Mr. Castle? Can you hear me? Are you okay?"
Suddenly, a mechanical arm drops out of the ceiling and quickly scans everyone. "Some sort of scanner", Goldstar surmises. "Probably trying to figure out who we are and what we're doing here."
The next thing Goldstar knows, the floor underneath her vanishes and she feels something pulling her down inside! "WHOO!", is all Goldstar manages to say before disappearing down the rabbit hole!
"Uhm, hello? Can you hear me? What do you want with me? You don't want to make my friends angry."
Not sure what is going on, Goldstar waits to see where she ends up next.

Frostbite follows the others through the castle as Serena begins to work her magic. We reach the main hallway as Serena casts her spell. He looks around and wonders if there was any change. Mumbling "Hello anyone there?" He waits for a few moment and there is no answer. He follows the others again to the bowels of the castle, where serene tries again. Frosty looks around looking for signs of activity but sees none.
Soon After Serena warns us to be on guard, Frosty raises his guard and begins to eye the walls cautiously. "Hello are you there?"
Suddenly a arm comes down the ceiling and begins to engulf each of us in a strange light with no visible effects on us. "I didn't know a physical was involved?"
Just as quickly as it appeared it was swallowed back up to where it came just as quickly. The floor opens up and swallows Goldstar. "Star!" Frostbite makes to dive for where she was put lands flat on his face as the floor seals itself.. " What are you gonna do with her?!?"
"No, my friend. The creature remains neutral in my eyes. Neither good or evil, perhaps even indifferent to us."
"Then why did it take her and not all of us? What does she posses that we don't?" He thinks to himself for a few minutes " Wait a minute...... She said to me earlier that she can give off heat, light and even radiation. What if it plans to use her as a power source?"
Getting to his feet he will try to remember the lay out of this floor from exploring it, trying to find a way further down. "The shaft!" is all he can muster up and turns and runs in that direction. He will run to the well and untie the rope. And begin to ravel it and proceed to the shaft. When he reaches the shaft he will secure the rope and then drop the bucket with the rope attached into the shaft. " I hope this reaches..." . Once this is done he will revert back into his human form, check the rope to see if it can hold his weight and than begins to lower himself down into the Shaft.

There are no age limits as far as who can join the Young Champions program. The information states that while actual field training is part of the program no one partakes in such activities before they are ready. A new super is tested to discover the type and limits of their abilities. Typically a barter type system is used to cover the cost training. The members of the YC program do odd jobs around Sanctuary based on their particular skills and talents.
The classes offered on Sanctuary are surprisingly normal. Among the classes and programs offered are First Aid, Aerobics, Martial Arts, Swimming, Polynesian Dancing, Painting, Alcoholics Anonymous, Surfing, and various outdoor beach sports. There are also basic educational classes, such as getting your GED and so on.
Programs particularly slanted towards superhumans are Paranormal Law, Detective Work, Aircraft Piloting, Basic Strategy, Disarming Tactics, and Vehicle Tips.

Out on the Mysterious Island, Serena has applied her healing touch to the creature that looks like a castle on an island. After being healed twice, a mechanical arm with some type of optical scanner pops up and quickly scans everyone. A moment after that, the floor opens up underneath Goldstar and she is drawn down inside!
Flux quickly follows. He phases himself and drops down into the floor in an attempt to follow Goldstar. The other members of the Vigilant are left behind wondering what to do next.
"The shaft!", Frostbite cries out as he runs out of the dungeon and towards the well. While the top of the well is on the surface of the island, the shaft can be accessed from the basement too.
Reaching the well, he grabs the rope used to lower a bucket down to reach water and reverts back to his regular human form. Securing the rope around him, Frostbite begins to climb down the well. He slowly begins to climb down the well. He can just barely make out the surface of the water, some twenty feet below floor level. The sounds of water gently lapping against the side of the well can be heard.
Elsewhere, Flux finds himself inside the creature itself. He can see veins carrying blood and the fleshy parts of the creature. Just like when he walked through the walls before.
Unfortunately, he doesn't find any open areas and is rapidly running out of air! Flux wanders aimlessly, but doesn't seem to be making any real process.
Unexpectedly, an opening forms around Flux, a small pocket inside the flesh. His lungs bursting, Flux takes a deep breath of fresh air. After taking a few moments to catch his breath, the cavity Flux finds himself in beings to move! It seems to be moving down and forward at the same time.
Finally, the pocket opens up into a much larger chamber. It's a bizarre combination of machinery and living organism. Much of the chamber is in shadow, but the middle of the chamber standing on an illuminated platform is Goldstar. Ominously, on top of her head is something that looks suspiciously similar to the crown the Warlord was wearing.
"Hiya Flux!", Goldstar calls out and wave upon seeing Flux. "I'd like you to meet my new friend Edgar!"
Stepping out of shadows is a man who could easily be Goldstar's twin. He has the same golden skin tone and blond hair. He's even similarly dressed, but lacks Goldstar's sparkles about him.
"Welcome", Edgar states with a bow towards Flux. "It is my wish to offer you and your friends my services."

Still, as Rose's parent, she can limit that until such time as Rose is old enough to make her own decisions in that regard. On the other hand, it may be a good idea for herself - when she's ready.
The program in Paranormal Law catches Lily's interest immediately. It's just the sort of thing she was looking for. Also, some of the other classes may be of interest to Rose. She prints off the full list and adds it to her growing pile of information on the island. While she's at it, Lily prints out a copy of the visitor questionnaire/membership application for review.
Lily decides to put off any further testing of her powers until after Rose goes to bed that evening. In the meantime, there are all the usual family activities to consume their time: dinner, reading, homework, housework, playing, etc. Lily does pull out her digital camera and take a few pictures of Rose flying around and glowing.
Once Rose is safely abed, Lily retreats to her own bedroom and the full-length mirror therein. The thought of her powers having some visual effect had intrigued her. She makes certain to bring the camera in case there is something worth recording.
Lily decides to start with the power that she feels she has the best grasp of. Standing before the mirror, she begins to jog in place, speeding up gradually until she shifts into super-speed. Next, she'll test the heightened vision and hearing. For the vision, she'll try to focus in on something that she can see behind her reflected in the mirror. That way she can remain facing the mirror. To test her hearing, she'll try to hear Rose breathing in her own bedroom. If she can hear that through the intervening walls, she'll try for her daughter's heartbeat.
Lastly, she'll try to summon the great strength she seems to recall accessing when she struck Electra. Lily steps over to her armoire, possibly the heaviest piece of furniture in her bedroom. Standing on one side, so that she can see herself in the mirror by looking to the side over her shoulder, Lily attempts to lift it. She's careful apply her strength gradually and not to suddenly flex and fling it across the room.

Once Rose is safely abed, Lily retreats to her own bedroom and the full-length mirror therein. The thought of her powers having some visual effect had intrigued her. She makes certain to bring the camera in case there is something worth recording.
Lily decides to start with the power that she feels she has the best grasp of. Standing before the mirror, she begins to jog in place, speeding up gradually until she shifts into super-speed. Next, she'll test the heightened vision and hearing. For the vision, she'll try to focus in on something that she can see behind her reflected in the mirror. That way she can remain facing the mirror. To test her hearing, she'll try to hear Rose breathing in her own bedroom. If she can hear that through the intervening walls, she'll try for her daughter's heartbeat.
Lastly, she'll try to summon the great strength she seems to recall accessing when she struck Electra. Lily steps over to her armoire, possibly the heaviest piece of furniture in her bedroom. Standing on one side, so that she can see herself in the mirror by looking to the side over her shoulder, Lily attempts to lift it. She's careful apply her strength gradually and not to suddenly flex and fling it across the room.
A castle by any other name...
Blackout:
Blackout has been spending his time exploring the castle, and he has apparently lost track of time in doing so. He was vaguely aware at some of the earlier arrivals and noticed others rushing about as they checked and re-checked things. There was talk of going back to the mainland, so at that point he began to head back to the group.
Then everyone headed down to see about "healing" the castle. Not really thinking he could add much to that situation, Blackout hung back a bit, until Goldstar was apparently swallowed by the very floor! Flux disappears as well, although by his own design.

Edgar the Major-Domo?
Flux:
Flux sink-walks his way down into the living floor of the castle pursuing Goldstar.

Holding his breath and resolve Flux continues down hoping for a glimpse of Goldstar and/or an air chamber. He gets both but not in the way he expected.
Instead of finding an opening it finds him! Fresh air and space open up around him giving him the hope that the creature/castle is not yet activley hostile to them.
After getting his breath back Flux is guided downward to Goldstar by the simplest method possible: the chamber moves him there.
Maybe Goldstar is communicating with it? It did seem to favor her over the rest of us when it spoke before.
When Flux enters the larger chamber he sees Golstar seemingly unhurt but wearing the same type of crown used by the Warlord.
"Hiya Flux"! Goldstar calls out, waving unconcernedly. "I'd like you to meet my new friend Edgar! "
"Hello 'Star! You all right?"
'Edgar' steps out of the shadows looking like Goldstar's brother, bows rather formally and states he wishes to offer his services to us.
Well, let me take a wild guess at this.
"Hello Edgar. May I take it that you are an extention of this space worthy vessel patterned after Goldstar's appearence? And that you needed some time or help to recover from your trip? You gave us a start with that floor drop trick. Fortunately Serena detected no hostility towards us or that might have gone badly for you."
Flux is still glancing Goldstar's way to see if anything is off.
"Edgar, is there some reason Goldstar was taken like that without any warning? And can you bring us all back to the main hallway? The sooner we reassure the others there is no danger the better it will be."
Hurm, if Goldstar fried the other crown to free the ship from the control of the Warlord then it had to make a new one to re-establish effective communication with us. A bit like replacing a keyboard after spilling coffee into the processer.

"You are the one called Flux", Edgar states. "You appear to be the leader of this group called the Vigilant. You possess the ability to alter your size and mass, turning either very small or very larger, or very heavy or as light as air. You can also increase gravity around others in a small area."
"I am more than just an extension of this place, this place is what I am. I was birthed millenniums ago by creators long since forgotten from my memory banks. But I have a defined purpose. It is my task to travel between stars and dimensions to aid worlds in need of medical assistance. You might consider me to be a medical frigate."
"My form is polymorphic in nature and I can warp the physical laws of space within my form to grow as large as necessary to accommodate those in my care. It was my task to wander between stars and dimensions to seek out those places I am needed. Once there, I land and assume some shape that would blend in with the natural surroundings. Then I would link with one of the locale inhabitants in order to further adapt my form to the outside world and to provide me with a template in order to create humanoid versions of myself to better interact with the inhabitants."
"I had the misfortune of landing on the world of the one called the Warlord in another dimension. I linked with him, but was unaware of his true nature until it was too late. I took the shape of a castle on an island in order to blend in on his world."
"However, the Warlord was not interesting in curing a plague that was ravaging his lands. He only knew conquest and I was forced to do his bidding. Using the Warlord as a template, I was forced to create humanoid soldiers to fight his wars. We were traveling to a different location on his world to launch his attack against his enemies when a powerful wave of energy struck me. I was damaged and knocked off course."
"Thus we appeared in this place. I was damaged and hurt, power was failing. I was unable to maintain the configuration the Warlord desired and much of my extra-dimensional space collapsed along with most of the army I had created for him. I sensed your arrival here and hoped that you would be able to stop the Warlord and free me from him."
"I sensed that the one you called Goldstar had the ability to generate an Electromagnetic Pulse that would destroy the Warlord's controlling circlet and thus free me from his influence. The attack cleared my active memory circuits, causing me to reboot from stored backups. Unfortunately, my backups were slightly damaged as well and there is much I do not know."
"The one you call Serena healed me enough to restore my operations. But I needed to bond with one of you in order to complete the process and become fully operational once more. Goldstar kindly agreed to link with me once I explained the situation to her. Once I detected you trying to reach me, I brought you here in order to keep you from harm."
"Sure thing!" Goldstar easily reaches up and removes the headpiece. She steps off of the platform and hands it to Edgar. Edgar takes the circlet and sets it on a nearby table. "I really didn't like wearing that anyway!"
Edgar then approaches Goldstar and Flux. Once they are close together, the floor underneath you all begins to rise. As you near the ceiling, an opening appears allowing you safe passage. In a matter of moments you are back in the castle dungeon no worse for wear.
To those present, Edgar will say, "I bid you all welcome. I have been given the designation of Edgar. You may use me as your base of operations for the time being. I have been damaged and it will take many years before I will be able to regrow those necessary components in order to leave your planet. I sense that some sort of disaster has taken place here and that many have been hurt. They may be brought here so that they may be treated."
Turning back to Goldstar, Edgar will ask, "Should I alter my appearance in order to blend in?"

Frostbite
The interior of the castle is a blur to him as he runs as fast as his feet will carry him towards the well. His only concern is finding where the castle took Goldstar as well as Flux.
He reaches the well and grasps the rope firmly and gives it a yank. Seeing that rope is sturdy
he reverts back to normal form and begins to descend into the darkness of the well.
"Should of brought a flashlight or glow sticks." he says to himself as the echo rebound back at him.
The sound of water lapping against the well walls catches his ears. He stops for a moment in the climb and begins looking about. The only aspect of the well he can make out is the reflection of the blacken water, almost like a giant eye staring back at him.
Drawing in a deep breath he will revert back to his cold form and begin to lower himself closer to the water line stopping about 6ft from the water itself. He will concentrate in hearing the water lapping in each direction( trying to make out if some echoes seem farther than the next). Regardless if he figured if it is a circular well or any other shape he will raise one hand and point it to the water near where he thinks the walls are. And begin concentrating on entangling the water(hopefully like mini icebergs)and watch its results.

Goldstar in Wonderland!
Goldstar:
After dropping through the rabbit hole, Goldstar finds herself inside the creature and being moved downwards. After a few moments Goldstar drops into a large and creepy chamber that is mostly filled with darkness. The darkness isn't much of a threat to one who can generate light! Goldstar's sparkles give our heroine enough light to see by.
"Hello? Is there anyone here? Mr. Castle sir?"
Stepping out of the shadows is a humanoid figure; seemingly male but looking more like a manikin then a real person. He doesn't seem to be all that threatening.
"Whoo!", Goldstar utters upon seeing him. "Are you the castle?"
"In a matter of speaking", the figure explains. "I am the entirety of the structure of which you are in. You freed me from the Warlord's influence for which I thank you. However, I need your assistance once more. I need to link with a willing native of this world to complete my acclimation to this world."
"Wow, I'm honored, but why me? Surely one of my friends would be better suited for this task? I'm not exactly a typical person in this world."
"You are ideal for my needs", the creature states. "The actions of the Warlord has made me very cautious in choosing who to bond with. He took advantage of me and forced me to do things that were contrary to my prime directives. Based on my scans you will not do such things as the Warlord did."
"You got that right! He was an evil and nasty man! But what about Flux and the others?"
"Several of your friends have participated in war and killed other beings. Others are trained in the art of combat or participate in violent activities. Of all those present, you are the most--- innocent."
"Gee thanks!", Goldstar happily grins at the compliment. "What do I have to do?"
"Merely place this circlet upon your head. You will become the template I will use to assume humanoid shapes and some of your traits will become my traits. You have the desire to do good and help others, which I already possess in varying degrees. We are well matched. The circlet will give you some measure of control over me, which the Warlord abused."
"I would never do that!", Goldstar responds, shock clear in her voice. "That would be so wrong!"
"Very good." Goldstar is handed the circlet that she places on her brow. An illuminated platform forms underneath Goldstar's feet and she rises about a foot up of the floor. "Stand still for a few moments while the bonding process is completed."
"Okie!" A few beats later Goldstar adds, "I don't have to wear it all the time do I?"
"No. I will respond to vocal commands anywhere here with in my being. Just call and I will be there. You will have to give me a name suitable for this world."
Goldstar thinks about this for a moment, concentrating hard on the subject. "Edgar."
"Edgar it is." Edgar's form suddenly shifts and his skin takes on a more golden color. Short blond hair emerges from his scalp. Garments come into existence about him making him resemble Goldstar. "The linking process is now complete. Any particular reason for that name?"
"You look like an Edgar," Goldstar shrugs.
Edgar looks away for a moment. "One of your friends has entered my body trying to find you. I shall bring him here before any harm comes to him."
A few moments later, Flux is brought into the chamber.
"Hiya Flux!", Goldstar calls out and wave upon seeing Flux. "I'd like you to meet my new friend Edgar!"
Flux and Edgar have a length conversation while Goldstar just listens. Finally the conversation turns its way back to Goldstar.
Next Edgar does his moving bit and we're back in the dungeon.

The Knight waits intently, her sword held out before her with both hands. She's waiting for the inevitable attack and yet none seems to be forthcoming. Frostbite mentions something about a shaft and rushes off. Blackout follows after him, leaving Serena alone in the chamber with Lord Eldritch.
"Have you any suggestions on our next course of action?"

Standing before her dressing mirror, Lily attempts to bring forth her powers once more. She begins to jog in place. As she jogs, her legs begin to change shape. They become lean and trim and gradually grow more and more muscular.
The change to the rest of Lily's body becomes even more dramatic. Her extra fat seemingly melts away reveal a more lithe and muscular form. Lily's capacity to breath is amplified as well. Her lungs are able to inhale greater quantities of air to replenish her system.
Before Lily is aware of what she's doing, she running a superspeeds. To her surprise, the carpet underneath her feet has been worn clean through by the friction she generated!
Next Lily tests her hearing and sight. She focuses in on an object and it becomes much clearer in her sight. The writing on a small bottle in the mirror becomes perfectly clear to her.
Likewise, by straining to hear distant sounds they become clearer and more in focus. At first Lily picks up all the sounds around her, but with practice can concentrate on specific ones. She'll be able to pick up Rose breathing and the sound of her heartbeat.
In both cases, Lily will not note any change in her appearance. After relaxing from her superspeed jog, her body will revert back to its normal appearance.
The strength test comes next. The process is much like the others so far. Lily focuses in on the task at hand and her body adjusts to accommodate it. Her frame becomes leaner and more muscular once more, but this time the upper body strength is greatly amplified. The extra strength doesn't come in a great surge, but rather grows in time with the need for it. As she strains to lift the armoire her muscles correspondingly give her the extra strength to pull off the feat.
Blackout & Frostbite:
Frostbite lowers himself down into the well while Blackout watches on. The well is indeed circular and Frostbite repels down to about six feet above the water. He gestures down towards the water and ice issues forth. The ice coats the top of the water freezing the top of the well.

Standing before her dressing mirror, Lily attempts to bring forth her powers once more. She begins to jog in place. As she jogs, her legs begin to change shape. They become lean and trim and gradually grow more and more muscular.
The change to the rest of Lily's body becomes even more dramatic. Her extra fat seemingly melts away reveal a more lithe and muscular form. Lily's capacity to breath is amplified as well. Her lungs are able to inhale greater quantities of air to replenish her system.
Before Lily is aware of what she's doing, she running a superspeeds. To her surprise, the carpet underneath her feet has been worn clean through by the friction she generated!
Next Lily tests her hearing and sight. She focuses in on an object and it becomes much clearer in her sight. The writing on a small bottle in the mirror becomes perfectly clear to her.
Likewise, by straining to hear distant sounds they become clearer and more in focus. At first Lily picks up all the sounds around her, but with practice can concentrate on specific ones. She'll be able to pick up Rose breathing and the sound of her heartbeat.
In both cases, Lily will not note any change in her appearance. After relaxing from her superspeed jog, her body will revert back to its normal appearance.
The strength test comes next. The process is much like the others so far. Lily focuses in on the task at hand and her body adjusts to accommodate it. Her frame becomes leaner and more muscular once more, but this time the upper body strength is greatly amplified. The extra strength doesn't come in a great surge, but rather grows in time with the need for it. As she strains to lift the armoire her muscles correspondingly give her the extra strength to pull off the feat.
Blackout & Frostbite:
Frostbite lowers himself down into the well while Blackout watches on. The well is indeed circular and Frostbite repels down to about six feet above the water. He gestures down towards the water and ice issues forth. The ice coats the top of the water freezing the top of the well.

Lily reviews the Questionairre/ Application. The questions seem pretty normal, though the first one concerns her a bit. She would guess that it refers to a "superhuman code name". Unfortunately, having just received her powers and having little idea of the extent of them or whether there is any underlying theme to them (as seems to be the case with so many metahumans), she really has no idea what would constitute a reasonable code name at this point. Then again, she really hasn't had time to give it any thought, either.
It occurs to her that she'll probably need to come up with a code name for Rose, as well. Not for the first time, Lily is convinced that she is in no way ready for all of this.
Taking a break from the computer, Lily begins testing her powers as per the recommendations on the web site. The changes to her body as she runs are fascinating, yet incredible - it is as though she becomes a different woman. Sleek, muscular and - dare she say it - beautiful. Never in her life has she been any of those things, yet it is her, and yet not her, as well. After a few moments, a scent rises to her nostrils. Noting the source, she suddenly realizes the damage she has done to the carpet and slows to a stop. I'm going to have to get that fixed, she muses.

Lily finds that she can read the inscription on the medicine bottle on the shelf in the bathroom as reflected in the mirror, and hear Rose's heartbeat as she sleeps! Is this what it's like for the animals, who are known to have far keener senses than humans? Stranger still, there seems to be no physical effect to utilizing these enhanced senses. She should investigate this further.

Dear Sir or Madam,
As you may be aware by now, an incredible event occurred today in San Diego, California. While I am uncertain of the exact nature of this event, I know that it caused the spontaneous generation of a number of metahumans. I know this because among that number were myself and my daughter. Both of us have apparently gained what are often referred to as "metahuman powers". Mine seem to be primarily physical in nature (so far as I have been able to tell), and my daughter's seem to involve some kind of strange solid energy.
The reason I am contacting you is that I have no idea how to proceed from here and am hoping you can help me. My first concern is to get a medical exam from someone versed in metahuman physiology. I am hopeful that you can either recommend someone in this area, or that you have the facilities and expertise there on the island, for this kind of examination. Secondly, I am hoping that we can gain some assistance in exploring and testing these new abilities, so as not to be a danger to ourselves or others.
Having perused your web site, I found the description of your Young Champions program interesting, which may be a good way for us to receive the testing and training that we so desperately need. I also believe that we would benefit from one or more of the classes that you offer.

Still not entirely positive of the whole situation having spent too much time away from the group while exploring the castle, Blackout feels he missed something important. "I'm going to take a wild guess but since you appear to be.. similair.. to Goldstar, are you aware of her location or the cause of her disappearance?"

At the very least to protect Edgar from those who would seek to make use of him against his will, such as the Warlord did. Therefore you should retain the shape and the internal layout of the castle."Turning back to Goldstar, Edgar will ask, "Should I alter my appearance in order to blend in?"

Turning off the light, Lily attempts to determine if she can see in the dark like certain animals-- namely cats-- can. The light is shut off and Lily makes her way back to the mirror by memory. She concentrates on the mirror trying to make things brighter.
After a few moments of concentration, Lily succeeds. The first thing she notices is a pair of cats' eyes looking back at her in the mirror. Reflexively she attempts reach up to her eyes but finds that her arms don't seem to be able to bend that way any more. Looking back in the mirror, Lily can see that not only does she have cats eyes, but she has turned herself entirely into a house cat!

Lily is encouraged when her form begins to become visible in the darkened room. It seems she is learning to guess well. Moments later, her pleasure turns to shock as she realizes that her entire body has become that of a cat! She stares, open-mouthed, at the image reflected in the mirror - which looks rather silly on a cat, if truth be told.
Shaking off her astonishment, Lily is gratified to find that she can return to her human body. Still a bit shaken, she returns to computer in the other room and fires off her email. As she writes, her memories from earlier in the day begin to haunt her - particularly the seeming dream of having taken the shape of a bear. If she can be a cat, why not a bear? The very idea seems so outlandish, yet has a strange logic to it as well.
Once the email is sent, Lily returns to her room for more experimentation. Turning the bedroom light back on, she stands once more before the mirror. She then tries to remember what she can of her ursine dream and revert to that form.
Should that be successful, she figures, What the heck! and begins to attempt as many animal forms as she can think of that the space will allow. (Of course, elephants and such are out, as she has no desire to damage her house.) Forms attempted will include: horse, deer, rabbit, mouse, dog, eagle, hummingbird, jaguar, snake and lizard. If she can take hummingbird form, she will attempt to fly, hovering before the mirror.

When Goldstar, Flux and a man with a familiar appearence to Goldstar re-emerge from the floor Eldrich is ready for any trouble.
Assured by the Lady Serena that all is well Eldrich covertly studies this new stranger.

Riding back up to the basement with Goldstar and 'Edgar' gives Flux some time to mull over what he has been told.
A living medical ship that travels through space and dimensions to cure the sick for free? Sounds too good to be true. Still, we have Peace Corps, Doctors Without Borders and missionaries so maybe it's not so far-fetched. Still, Edgar got one thing wrong. I don't have anything like the ability to increase gravity under other people. Mistakes like that could lead to malpractice troubles!
Flux smiles under the now itchy ski mask at the thought of interdimensional lawsuits then is jarred out of his idylic moment by a stray rememberance: when the burst of magic hit him he had reacted to it by momentarily losing his height. What else might have been changed in that effect?
By the time they reach the open level again Flux has shelved the worry for now.

Desperately Seeking Sanctuary
Lily:
As each animal form comes and goes, Lily becomes yet more amazed at the extent of these new powers she has gained. It seems there is little limit to the animals that she can mimic. When she has a better opportunity, she will have to attempt some of those that she doesn't here and now. Lily starts to make a mental list of the animal forms that she would like to try when the opportunity presents itself: elephant, fish, shark, whale and even an asian dragon.
Finishing her test of animal mimicry, it occurs to Lily to try non-animal forms. Deciding to start small and go from there, Lily attempts to take on the appearance of her mother, followed by that of Rose. These would seem to be the most accessible, as they are already close to her own appearance.
Should Lily be able to mimic her mother and daughter, she will try other human friends and family members. The first two are both female and asian, so next she will try her friend Tanaysha, who is black. From there, she will attempt a male, her father, and then her boss, Charles Willingham.

"Edgar it is then. If everyone's back together then yes we should join up with them." Blackout will pause to see if Frostbite will be coming out of the well anytime soon, and then will head back to where the rest of the group is.
"In my current configuration, my designation is Edgar. All other designations have been replaced by Edgar."

Flux:
"Ok maybe not all of that at once. We can add some creature comforts piecemeal at a later date.
Right now, radio transmission and transportation are priorities. By tonight a warning light for shipping vessels. Food would be nice but we'll pick up something along the way. We'll make a list of living essentials later."
Turning to look at everyone now present and waiting for the rest to arrive Flux takes a moment to reflect on the last few hours and what may be coming up next for 'his' team.
"Transport is good Edgar, we need to be back to San Diego soon. What kind of transport can you provide-without giving the secret out?"
"Ok maybe not all of that at once. We can add some creature comforts piecemeal at a later date.
Right now, radio transmission and transportation are priorities. By tonight a warning light for shipping vessels. Food would be nice but we'll pick up something along the way. We'll make a list of living essentials later."

Eldrich Arcane:
Eldrich listens to the conversation between all parties trying to understand what is being discussed. Words like "radio transmission", "refrigeration" and such have no meaning to him although "warning beacon" is clear enough. The most telling remarks come from Edgar though. Eldrich gleans much information by what is said.
That 'Edgar' is not an elemental of any sort is now plain. That he is a higher being, a traveler of multiple dimensions and realms is also plain. The remark about magic being a weaker force in this dimension explains nearly everything at least in the short term.
I am not mad nor displaced in time. I am in another realm entire, one where magic is weak and therefore seldom used, not banned or forgotten as I thought at first. This means that there are no Rune-Plaques to be disrupted by magic-indeed no fragments of a world here at all.
And that I am very far from home.
Lady Serena must also be dislocated from her native realm as perhaps is Goldstar. Perhaps Edgar can help us to return after he has some time to heal.
With that thought to bolster him Arcane is more than ready to aid the folk in the great city of wonders he has come to.

He lowers himself closer to the water and tries to peer through the darkness as well listen to the echoes of the water below. All the echoes seem to be the same distance away and he quickly realizes the chamber is circular.
He motions with his outstretched hand an ice begins to spring from his hand cover the well surface with ice. "That should do it." as he looks onto his man-made ice rink. He will lower himself to the ice covered water applying pressure if all his weight can be supported he will move to the walls and check them for any out of the ordinary, pushing occasionally in random spots. Upon completion he will make his way back to the rope and yell "I'm coming up." and proceed to climb back up.

After playing with animal forms, Lily switches over to trying to mimic people. She can easily change her form to look like her mother or even Rose. The other people she knows she'll be able to mimic as well.

Down in the well, Frostbite makes his mini ice rink. He tests it for solidness and it seems fine. That task complete, Frostbite climbs back up out of the well. There he finds Blackout joined by a man who resembles a male version of Goldstar.
"Welcome, Frostbite," the man states. "I am Edgar. I have been assigned to return you to the chamber from which you just came from. The others are there waiting for you. Follow me please."

Blackout and Frostbite return to the chamber led by a second Edgar! The first Edgar will lead the group to Chamber #4 in the basement of the castle. There a floating platform floats on the water. It is large enough for everyone to use.
"Merely step onto the platform. Once you are ready, it will take you back to the shore. It will remain there until you return. Is this satisfactory?"

"I will begin work immediately", Edgar promises. "I will do research on the proper configuration and style of warning beacon to prevent other vessels from crashing into me. After experimenting a bit further, it seems that she can mimic just about anyone she knows! There must be other things she should try, but she really can't think of any right now.
This has all given Lily quite a lot to think about. It has also been a very tiring and emotionally draining day. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better.
Lily will watch TV for a while, particularly the local news, before heading to bed. It hasn't occurred to her to call the other metahumans she met today, which just serves to show how frazzled she is by all that has happened.

Goldstar happily follows along with the others. Once back on shore she'll pick up Frostbite and fly off in search of trouble, unless directed to a specific destination by Flux.

Serena:
The Knight eyes the floating platform in the watery cave. "These seems suitable to me. You say that it will move us to the shore of its own accord? How interesting."
Without a sign of fear, Serena will step out onto the platform and take a position near the front of the boat. She waits for the others to join her.
Once on shore, she'll team up with Lord Eldrich and go forth to render aid.

Frostbite
Frostbite begins to skate towards the walls pushing in random spots in the hopes of finding a way towards where Goldstar and Flux might be. To his disappointment he finds nothing out of the ordinary and the walls are quite solid. He skates back towards the rope and begins to climb his way back to the well mouth. As he reaches the well's opening he can hear Black out as well as another unfamiliar voice conversing. "Very good sir" the voice says. Who is that he wonders to himself as he reaches his hand to the well wall. Standing near Blackout is a man that looks very similar to Goldstar, gold skin and all though he doesn't have the golden fireflies near him.
"Welcome, Frostbite," the man states. "I am Edgar. I have been assigned to return you to the chamber from which you just came from. The others are there waiting for you. Follow me please."
He eyes the man over and quickly regains his shock of seeing someone so similar to Goldstar. "Hello, Edgar." As they walk back to the others Frostbites curiousity becomes apparent as he looks at the man in interest. "Edgar you said everyone is waiting for us. You mean everyone is okay? Where was Goldstar taken?"
As we reach the chamber where the others are located his eyes widen in shock and looks from one Edgar to the next. Not trying to sound rude ,"How many of you are there?"
The gold skin man soon leads us to a platform where he says all we have to do is stand on it and it will take us to the main land. Frostbite begins to look over the platform with interest noting no seats he wonders out loud. "How fast does it go and better yet will we fall off!?"

Flux is slightly startled to see two Edgars when Blackout and Frostbite return to them but after all why not? It's a living ship and medical emmissary all bundled together and can create what it ( he) needs.
The flat barge is another matter. It doesn't look like much - in fact it doesn't look like enough!
Before Flux can voice a question Frostbite beats him to it.
"Handrails would be a good idea next time Edgar. We'll be careful for now."
It's getting dark, we haven't eaten anything in hours and three people don't know this city. Time to regroup the team.
"Hokay, slight change in the team-ups. Groups of three this time. Frostbite, you and Goldstar take Serena with you. Eldrich, you're with me and Blackout. When we get to shore we look for quick food outlets or emergency food kitchens set up for this disaster. Here's some cash for the food outlets. There will probably be National Guard, Red Cross, firefighters and EMT's all out with the police tonight so if you see them having trouble with anything offer to help. Don't come up on anybody unannounced, they're going to be jumpy with any odd-looking strangers. Just say you're part of the Vigilante team if anyone asks and mention Major Star."
Flux will open his wallet and take out several bills, handing some to Goldstar to pass on to Frostbite and Serena. ( Never did buy anything at Horton Plaza)
"Keep in radio contact, check in every fifteen minutes or so. Be aware of your locations in case you need to call in help. Watch the street signs and numbers. I'm not native to the city and I know some of you aren't either so don't be afraid to ask directions if needed. Use your best judgement for any situation you come into. I know this is all new but your judgement is sound. Trust it. I already do."
"We're going to split into the two teams right after we hit the shoreline. We'll be moving north and east across the affected area of the city, the other team more east than north. I'd firm these directions up more if I could but for the most part we're looking for trouble and that will be everywhere. Any questions?"
