Across the River (Prelude)

Post by GM Fang »

As the crew has settled in for a bit after the mission to Sullust and selling off the cargo that was brought back to Tatooine, Roona contacts the rest of the group and quietly says that she will have to return to Rodia. Ymira asks if the trip is permanent.

Ymira responds, "Kyotopa che-fa. Stuka bunky-dunko ateema." The rodian scout did not have to return permanently, but rather immediately. The expected questions as to why that is so important are met with a morose and morbid response. "Geela is Roona's sister," she says in her rough Basic, tears forming in her large dark eyes. "Da wanga nee choo. Geela dead!"

Roona states that she must collect the body from Mos Zabu and return to Rodia for a proper internment. Roona explains that Geela was involved with her own group of ne'er-do-wells. Geela and a compatriot had concocted an elaborate scheme to defraud a 'new to Tatooine' Twi’lek businessman who had expressed interest in fine collectibles. The scheme was foolish and didn’t stand a chance of even getting started yet the Rhodian and her human companion had gone through with it. Geela was extremely resourceful and cunning. Her friend, Makara had a way of making people believe anything; she could sell bantha druk to a Tuscan Raider. They even thought they had actually succeeded. Geela had comlinked Roona just a few hours before, giddy with the haul of credits they had swindled from the alien.

But they had been ratted out and double-crossed. Corr Bona. Thief. Swindler. Con Artist. Sometime friend of the unnamed group that Geela and Makara had joined. Now, blood enemy. Another of the group had been killed as well. Roona had never been able to get Geela to switch to a less dangerous line of "work". She was too slick and conniving and didn't like getting her hands dirty. Joining Roona in her scouting endeavors was never going to satisfy the younger sibling.

The trip to Rodia could go one of two ways: following the Corellian Run super-hyperoute on a simpler 10 hour trip or navigating off the hyperspace lane and cutting the trip to a more difficult 8 hour jaunt. In either case, Rodia, part of the Savareen sector, was very close the the Arkanis sector that Tatooine occupied.

The trip would take them to Karsteeku, a medium-sized city on the swampy jungle planet. It was of course the home of the Rodian species. Rodia was mostly covered in water, including the vast Wesessa Sea. The majority of the planet's solid landmasses that were not submerged were covered in unworkable swamps, thick forests and jungles, with colder regions to the north and south of the planet. Rodia had a strong smell that was pungent to most visitors. Roona felt it fitting to bring her sister's body back to their home planet.

The Rodians built their cities on waterways and protected them with environmental shields, bubble domes that surrounded all habitation structures and allowed entry and exit for vehicles and vessels. These domes also protected from the extreme temperatures of the planet. Karsteeku was no different. This was where the Eskooru clan originated and this was where Geela would be laid to rest.

The team flew to Mos Zabu to retrieve the body of the Rodian girl, Geela. Geela was the sister of the crew's scout: Roona. She had played a dangerous game and paid the price. Unfortunately that was the way of things out here on the Outer Rim. Life could be fleeting and danger seemed to be around every corner.

Roona met with the last remaining member of the team that Geela had been a part of, a tall man in padded armor by the name of Garin Veris. Geela and Veris' sister Makara had tried to pull a swindle on a Twilek businessman trading in ancient artifacts. It went sideways when the team was betrayed by one of their sometimes allies, Corr Bona. A group of Aqualish had been hired for revenge. They slowly worked their way through the group. Deece Crix. Norin. Geela. All killed. Makara was captured and taken off planet. Only Garin had survived the ambushes and only because he tried to always prepare for things to go wrong.

Roona asked about Geela and the two exchanged a few stories. Roona wanted revenge on this Bona character, but Veris assured her that his subterfuge had already been dealt with, permanently. Veris himself was off to Ryloth to try and rescue his sister. Roona placed her dead sister's body into a stasis box for transport back to Rodia and a final internment. It wasn't often that a Rodian was able to be brought back to their clan home. Many had been away from Rodia for so long, generations having lived away by now. And Rodians often lived short and dangerous lives. They were a violent culture mostly. Bounty hunters, assassins, enforcers. Rodians took to violence like Mon Calamari to water. It was likely that most Rodians were disposed of in less formal and more brutal ways. It was even said that Jabba the Hutt enjoyed a special liquor made from the bodies of dead Rodians.

Roona thanked Veris for collecting Geela's body and keeping it for her. Soon the team was off to the short hyperspace jump to Roona's home planet.

When Zavi does see Roona, he will give her an understanding hug.

“Zavi knows siblings can be many things,” he'll tell her. “A source of delight. A source of pain. We hunt this Corr Bona? Zavi has several grenades with his name on them if you wish it.”

Roona wipes her big eyes and kneels down to accept Zavi's hug. She nods her head vigorously in understanding, not quite able to form words just yet. Roona is a touched by her comrades caring actions towards her as she is saddened at Geela's fate. She finally finds her voice. "Corr Bona die, yes."

Once they arrive in Mos Zabu, the team finds out that Geela's teammate Veris has already dealt with Corr Bona quite permanently. When asked where the body is, Veris just shakes his helmeted head slowly. "Retribution has been served," he says solemnly. There's a sinister tone to the man's voice that implies the team might not want to know the details.

“Yes,” Zavi says in agreement.

If the squib is disappointed in finding out that Corr is already dead, he does not show it. When their eyes do meet, Zavi will give Veris a nod of acknowledgement for having dealt with the vile man.

Prelude continues -

After meeting with the Outlaw Tech Garin Veris and picking up Geela's body, the group heads off for Rodia. It is less than a day's travel. The ship enters the Tyrius System and head for Rodia. While there are formal docking procedures and a request for identifications transmitted, Rodia is not very restrictive on who lands here. They tend to collect the data for future rather than scrutinize it in the moment.

Ymira pilots the ship towards Karsteeku and the Spaceport Zone. The planet is a lush green and sapphire gem, covered by tropical jungles and rainforests as well as many unknown deep blue depths. The ship is given docking privileges and passes through the environmental zone to the commercial district and sets down.

Roona will need some time to prepare for the funeral rites for her sister Geela. The funeral pyre will be held on a nearby island to the city, outside the environmental zones, in two days.
