Crucible #20 - "Mysterious Island: Conclusion"

The battle with the Warlord and his forces is over. The prisoners are rounded up and put on ice courtesy of Frostbite. The Warlord's wounds are bandaged up and he'll survive.

Eldritch examines the Black Magus before he is put on ice. The only magic item he notices is a ring on the mages finger. It is in the shape of a serpent that coils around the finger and rises up as if hissing. It is set with two small rubies for eyes.

The King's Crown is examined by Flux and Frostbite. Previously, it looked like a typical metallic crown. However, after being blasted by Goldstar, several concealed covers were blown open. Inside you can see what appear to be microcircuit boards that are extremely sophisticated. Frostbite notes that they are far superior to anything that currently exists on Earth. They are far smaller and use different types of tiny crystals in place of processing chips, resistors, transistors, diodes, and capacitors. The circuitry is currently inactive.

A quick check of the radios reveals that they too were fried because of the EM Pulse. Goldstar is sent out to contact Captain Novak. She flies out the main entrance and is rapidly skyward.

Now outside, Goldstar can see that the castle looks exactly as it did when the heroes first arrived. She quickly contacts Captain Novak. He indicates that nothing on the outside of the castle changed at all. There really is no place large enough to land the chopper on the island. The only place that would suffice is the top of the one large tower, but he is unsure the building could take the weight.

To bandage up the Warlord it was necessary to remove his armor. Up close you realize that while it looks like medieval armor, it is really high tech battlesuit. What appear to be metal plates is really high impact plastic. The insides are filled with more micro-circuitry much like the crown. What the armor did is anyone's guess as the EM Pulse also fried it.

Queen Olivia's armor is of similar construction and can be removed before she is placed on ice. The suit was far enough way from the EM Pulse and is still functioning. The control crystals blink as they carryout instructions. Numerous contacts exist inside the helmet and touch the wearer's head. These appear to be the method that the wearer controls the armor. Once the armor is removed from the Queen, it expands to a much larger size and now appears genderless in construction.

Once Goldstar returns, the heroes pair off and explore the rest of the castle.

Lily:

Spying Wildcat and Gale Force up ahead, Lily moves rose and herself out of sight. She attempts to call 911 but only receives a busy signal. Lily tires the line several times and it continues to ring busy.

Up head, Wildcat has seemingly had her fill of food and bounds off. Gale Force follows as the Wildcat takes to the rooftops.

GM Notes:

For simplicities sake, I'm just going to gloss over the castle exploration. Feel free to expound upon this and ask questions in your responses. I've created a web page that has the complete castle layout on it with maps. The interior of the castle now matches its outwards appearance. Take the Crucible Pages link in the link bar at the top of this page. It will lead you to an index of all Crucible related WebPages. There is now one for the New Frontiers Game as well.

You do not encounter anyone else during your explorations, nor are any traps or other magic items found. The castle maintains a comfortable climate on all levels. No items of technology or any type of control center is located. For all intents and purposes, it appears to be a medieval castle.

The castle is devoid of any personal touches. No quarters for the Warlord, Priestess, and the Black Magus are found. The walls of most chambers are decorated with numerous paintings, tapestry, and other such trophies. A few are interesting to look out, but none are more than curiosities.

Feel free to ask questions. I'll update the post ASAP.

All yours!

Goldstar explains it all!

Post by Goldstar »

Goldstar:
"Maybe the systems need to self-repair before we can get a response."
"Ooh!", Goldstar says excitedly to Flux. "Maybe that's it! If this place is really like a computer, then maybe my EM pulse just purged the active programs and made the system crash! Perhaps all we have to do reboot it!"
"Goldstar, what can you tell me about, er those hyperactive cubes?"
"Well, this place seemed like a hypercube or a type of tesseract before. A spatial anomaly created by the application of a radical cube."

Seeing Flux's uncomprehending look, Goldstar pauses to think how to explain this in plain English. (Boy are you guys in trouble!)

"Okay, we live in a world that is defined by three dimensions: height, width, and depth. We can move in any of these three directions. Each of these dimensions exist perpendicular to the other. Follow me so far?"

"Now, a hypercube is a four dimensional object. Meaning it exists in a dimension that we cannot perceive that is perpendicular to the other three dimensions. Just because we can't perceive a fourth dimension doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. In fact it has been mathematically proven that as many as eleven dimensions can exist without out us even being aware of them! Cool, huh?"

"So, when we first entered the castle, it was larger on the inside that on the outside. It was dimensionally transcendental. That's because by tapping into the fourth dimension they created the extra volume! It was a spatial anomaly created by the application of a radical cube! Or in other words a hypercube or a Tesseract. Simple, no?"

"Say, maybe when the system crashed the computer could no longer maintain the hypercube and everything crashed back into its default castle state. So them the castle and the island must be the true size and mass of this place. Wow, neato!"

"Maybe if this thing comes back on line, we could reconfigure the entire to make it look like what we wanted it to look like! Stellar!"
"It is of no matter, golden one. In my land an enchanted victim is not held responsible for actions made under compulsion. You need not apologize"
"Thank you for being so understanding!" To show her appreciation, Goldstar will give Eldrich a kiss on the cheek!

After learning that her EM Pulse not only fried the Crown, but the Warlord's armor and all the radio's, Goldstar will appear very embarrassed. "Uhm, sorry about that guys. I guess I didn't realize just how nasty that attack was!"

Goldstar is a bit relieved when she is sent outside to talk to Captain Novak. She happily flies off and waves to the nice main in the helicopter. She'll fly up beside the chopper, careful to avoid the moving blades, and confer with the pilot, relaying Flux's message.

That task complete, Goldstar will fly back and tell Flux what the pilot said. "He said that he can't land, there's not enough room. Oh, and it still looks like a castle on the outside. It didn't change at all."

Once we are ready to explore, and Goldstar is reminded that Frostbite is her partner, she'll happily go off to explore, flying most of the time. She's a bit disappointed that they don't find anything. While exploring she'll call out for the computer hoping to make it activate once more. "Hello? Mr. Computer? Where are you?"

Lily:

Try as she might, she can't get a clear line through to the police or PRIMUS. This certainly narrows her options. She can't do nothing, but can't endanger Rose, either.

It's only a couple blocks back to where they left the police officers. Taking Rose into her arms, Lily races back to where the last saw the patrolmen, some few moments before.

Eldrich:

"Have you actually lived in a castle Lady Serena? There are few in my homeland and all constructed before the Shattering. I would not find it comfortable even if the elemental servant had remained. Enslaving such is both wrong and dangerous and without magic a castle is difficult to inhabit."
"I have stayed in several, Lord Eldrich. My order used several castles as bases and I stayed at them frequently. I did not possess my own castle. This castle is quite remarkable, actually. It is warm and clean, unlike those without enchantments that are damp and dreary."

For the most part, Serena stands back while the others deal with the Warlord and examine his belongings. The Knight does note that the armor isn't armor in the traditional sense. "I am not familiar with this material. It doesn't seem very strong to provide much protection."

Likewise, Serena isn't surprised with the Queen's armor inflates to a larger size. "Enchanted to mould itself to its wearer." It is very surprising to discover that the armor is not magical in nature! "It behaves as if magical, but does not register as such. Could this be a type of magic that you are unfamiliar with, Lord Eldrich?"

Then it's off to explore the castle with Lord Eldrich. Serena will converse if Eldrich is willing. Eventually, the two find themselves on a high balcony over looking the castle. "This castle is amazing! The strength in the construction is most impressive. The cleanliness is remarkable. This would make a fine citadel from which to carry out our operations. The water would serve as a barrier to impeded our enemies. Almost all the needs of home!"

Every Castle Needs a Wizard

Eldrich Arcane:

"Yes Lady Serena. This castle is remarkably clean-and warm. I attribute the latter condition to the unatural warmth of this fragment. Is everyone sure there is nothing wrong with the sun's color?"

"Well, I only ask to alleviate my concerns. My memories are far from complete yet I am sure that this is too warm to be normal"

"Regarding the armor I am certain it holds no magic. That said, I cannot account for the many things I have seen both here in the castle and the amazing city upon the shore. There is no magic energy in any of it."

Eldrich pauses in intense thought, attempting to retrieve any knowledge that might pertain to this question.

"The only thing I can speculate upon is that the folk here, bereft of magical energy for some reason, have been able to manipulate matter and energy with a skill unknown to my own people.
This was known as the study of Materialism, that is, material manipulation without the use of magic. It was seldom used and not a well regarded practice."

"By your leave I have a favor to ask, Lady Serena. If you could tell me anything about this ring I removed from the Black Magus? It is magical in nature though I do not yet know what it does. It may be the source of that spiralling energy blast that struck the hall ceilling. Does it hold a malignent nature?"

Whenever somebody says, "follow me so far" that means the're about to speed way up.

NO.

"OK Goldstar. Tell Capt. Novak to land back on shore and come back in two to three hours. We should have everything locked down safe by then and can give a comprehensive report."

Flux will pair up with Blackout to walk the environs of the castle with an eye to finding a control room. When that fails to materialize Flux starts to plan how to get a power plant to the island along with electric lights, appliances, proper plumbing, wireing--then stops realizing there is no money for this.

"Well, we might have a base of operations here, but I don't know how to make it work out without a lot of cash. You wouldn't happen to be a rich playboy in your day job would you Blackout?"

Maybe PRIMUS could be persuaded that someone should stay here full time to watch the place-and pay for it's upkeep.

Come to think of it where did this place come from? And is anybody going to come looking for it?
I might not be so far off the mark at that!

Blackout:

Blackout steps back as Goldstar starts trying to explain everything. It's a reflex action, but it doesn't help clear anything up. And here I thought the pre-med exams were tough. :?
"Well, we might have a base of operations here, but I don't know how to make it work out without a lot of cash. You wouldn't happen to be a rich playboy in your day job would you Blackout?"
"No, if I was a rich playboy, I would have hired someone to play superhero for me," Blackout replies, testing his luck at humor once more.

"It does solve our base of operations problem as long as it doesn't whisk itself away to another dimension one morning. Hope it isn't blocking any boating or shipping lanes."

Flux:

Great. I never even thought of that. Some leader, me.

"Good points all 'round. Definitely have to have a word or two with the PRIMUS folk. At least if we do move in there will be plenty of room. Getting to the mainland will have to be worked out for everyone. Can't hitch a ride on the Goldstar express every time."

"Have to get some boats and see about learning to pilot one."

All that transport training in the Army on ground vehicles and now I'm on an island base. It is to laugh.

Frostbite

Overjoyed, Goldstar flies straight at Frostbite and gives him a great big hug! Happy tears come from her eyes. "I'm so glad you're okay!"

"Friend Frostbite! You are unscathed! I feared the worse! I am pleased. I have buried to many friends to do so again."

"Its great to see you to!" Returning Goldstar's hug. "I thought I was a goner for a bit there." He looks at Serena taking in here words. "It would be a shame to leave you guys so soon after we just met. I hope that we don't have to bury any of our friends ever."

Frostbite moves along side Flux while he begins to examine the crown. He begins to look curiously at it as it look like a fairly normal crown except that it has small compartments in which crystals of various sizes are lain within it. "I have never seen anything like this. I wonder how it works." as he begins to rotate the crown hoping for a better view of its components. Wondering if any of the other equipment that the matriarchs were wearing held such devices he will look at the equipment gathered and see if any of them have similar crystals as the head piece. If they do he will ask if he can examine them further at a later time.
Goldstar begins to explain what happened and Frostbite is slighty taken back what she says. "You mean to say that they pretty much increased the area of this room and maybe more with this?" he looks down at the crown within his hand. "Sounds a bit complicatedfor my tastes." he slowly tries to comprehend how they could even begin to do this and quickly decides not to because it begins to make his head hurt.

Frostbite again pairs up with Goldstar and they begin to look around the castle. "I wonder if this place has any secret passages like in the movies!?" He will look behind tapestries and pictures and knock on walls in various places in the hopes of finding something. His hopes are short lived as he doesn't find any. Goldstar begins to call out to the computer hoping that it may call out at anytime. "Maybe if we can figure out how to use the crown we can get it back." seeing her slightly down that he is gone He will add "He may come back in time and just maybe he will help us if we show him that we can be trusted..." he his hopeful this will make her feel better, though deep down he doubts it.

Goldstar:
"OK Goldstar. Tell Capt. Novak to land back on shore and come back in two to three hours. We should have everything locked down safe by then and can give a comprehensive report."
"Okie-dokie!", Goldstar happily responds with a completely wrong salute. She flies off once more to speak to the nice captain. "Boy, I wonder if I can get frequent flyer miles?"
"Its great to see you to!" Returning Goldstar's hug. "I thought I was a goner for a bit there." He looks at Serena taking in here words. "It would be a shame to leave you guys so soon after we just met. I hope that we don't have to bury any of our friends ever."
"Yeah, really," Goldstar adds. "I know I'm not looking forward to it! So un-stellar!"
Goldstar begins to explain what happened and Frostbite is slightly taken back what she says. "You mean to say that they pretty much increased the area of this room and maybe more with this?" he looks down at the crown within his hand. "Sounds a bit complicated for my tastes." he slowly tries to comprehend how they could even begin to do this and quickly decides not to because it begins to make his head hurt.
"Well, that crown was probably just some kind of interface between the castle and that icky king. Just a means of communication. Say, maybe the castle needs a person to guide it?"
Frostbite again pairs up with Goldstar and they begin to look around the castle. "I wonder if this place has any secret passages like in the movies!?" "OOH! That's a good idea!", Goldstar says excitedly. "There's gotta be controls for this place. It did mention some kind of engine being damaged before, so it's gotta be somewhere! Maybe hidden here in the castle or maybe underneath it!"

Without another thought, Goldstar flies off and dives into the water. She'll take along around the submerged part of the castle in hopes of finding a secret entrance or anything out of the ordinary.

Serena in search of EVIL!

"Well, I only ask to alleviate my concerns. My memories are far from complete yet I am sure that this is too warm to be normal"
"Unnatural warmth? I find it to be quite comfortable." Serena is puzzled by that comment and can only conclude that Eldrich is from a place much, much colder. (San Diego has awesome average high temps all year round. At the peak of summer the average high is 76 degrees with an average high of 65 in the 'dead of winter'. I could get used that!)

"You have my word as a Knight of the Order of the Golden Chalice, that I have never seen the sun be any other color in the sky."
"I can't say that I've heard of such a thing before myself, but I have seen to many strange things to discount it out of hand."
"By your leave I have a favor to ask, Lady Serena. If you could tell me anything about this ring I removed from the Black Magus? It is magical in nature though I do not yet know what it does. It may be the source of that spiraling energy blast that struck the hall ceiling. Does it hold a malignant nature?"
"But of course, Lord Eldrich. My skill in sorcery is most limited, (read clerical in nature) but I will do what I can."

First Serena will reach out with her innate sense to see of the ring is malevolent in any manner. The Knight closes her eyes for a moment and appears serene as she concentrations. Suddenly, her eyes fly open in alarm!

"I sense evil from the ring! Whatever function it fulfils, it must have a baneful affect upon the wearer. It should be destroyed immediately!"

Lily rushes back to where the policemen where. She arrives there just a few seconds later. The police have gone by now, having taken Electra away. Frustrated, Lily turns back around and simply runs the rest of the way to her car.

She and Rose make it to her vehicle without further incident. Getting in, Lily begins the long drive home. Traffic is terrible, but no further incidents occur and you safely make it home.

Once home, lily lets Rose go and she begins to fly about the apartment, giggling to herself. Unexpectedly, a glowing energy field surrounds the young girl.

Back out on the island, the Vigilant continue to explore. Frustratingly, the castle continues to hold its secrets closely guarded. No secret passages are found and everything seems routinely mundane. The map covers all the areas in the castle.

Goldstar explores the underwater portions of the island with no success. The castle sits in the middle of the bay and rests on top of a pillar of earth exactly the same shape as the island itself. (In other words, step off the island at any point and you would sink straight to the true bottom of the bay! Given that San Diego Bay sees heavy shipping it must be fairly deep here in the middle. Say 200' or so at least.)

A few hours later, Major Star flies out to the castle to check it out. Flux can't help but notice the strain on the man. He is abrupt in his mannerisms. A team of agents comes with him and they also go forth to explore and they also find nothing. They are convinced that the castle is perfectly normal and just a byproduct of the days weirdness.

"Fine, you guys can use the castle as a base. Better someone like you then someone else. We'll have to get a spotlight on it so ships can see it at night to prevent collisions. Otherwise, for the moment, you're on your own. We've got too much to handle as it is."

"I've been in contact with the Protectors and they are on their way down to help out. I've also called Sanctuary for assistance. They are sending a medical team and some of their own supers in to help deal with this crisis. They're going to need a place to set up at. How about out here? Being on an island will provide some measure of security and we'll provide a generator for power. Boat transportation will be set up as well."

GM Notes:

I'm assuming that no one has break down any walls in the castle to see what's behind them. Everything seems extremely solid and well built.

I'm also assuming that the Warlord and his cronies were taken away earlier when Goldstar first flew out to the helicopter. No real reason to keep them around unless you wanted to be around when they woke up. Let me know one way or the other.

Also, what are to going to do with the Priestess' armor? Turn it over to PRIMUS, keep it, or something else entirely?

The outside emergencies begin to calm down as the day draws to a close. The death toll has reached 1025 so far and expected to climb higher. The disaster has devastated the Downtown San Diego area and is only expected to get worse.

By now, you can assume that someone called Lily and filled her in on the details of what happened out on the island, so everyone is on the same page.

Now what?

Lily:

Arriving at the site of Electra's killing spree moments later, Lily is surprised to find no one there. She had expected the ambulances to still be there at the very least, and to totally abandon a crime scene so quickly seriously conflicts with her understanding of police procedure. She'll have to contact the department on Monday and look into it.

Lily considers continuing on back to where she last saw Major Star and the PRIMUS team, but decides that she really should focus on getting Rose home.

A bit frustrated at her inability to do anything about the two dangerous women she had seen, Lily continues on to the car with Rose. Fortunately, the drive home is uneventful, other than having to carefully skirt the destruction and debris that still litter much of the area.

Lily is happy to be home, and collapses onto the couch. Rose begins flying around the room and giggling, and Lily chuckles with her. However, her amusement quickly turns to amazement when Rose begins to glow! Oh my god! What now?! Panic sweeps through Lily, but begins to subside when she sees that the glow doesn't appear to be harming Rose.

"Uhm... Rose? Did you know that you're glowing like a light bulb? Are you doing that, or did it do it all by itself?"

Rose takes a look at her arms in amazement. "Whoo! I'm a Christmas light!"

Rose is glowing a light orange in color. She doesn't appear to be suffering any effects from the glow. Rose can will the affect away and with very strong concentration bring it back. The glow appears to be solid and it will block Lily from touching Rose.

"Major. My people are still able to help in any capacity the city requires. If you need us back in the disaster zone we're good to go. As for setting up a command post here that's fine with us. We'll coordinate our efforts with anyone. The important thing now is seeing to the saftey of the city's civilians. Whatever you need from us, ask."

Flux is prepared to work himself and his team the rest of the day and all night to help bring things to normal, securing only the nesessary food/water rations and new radios for his team and any new guests that may be arriving.

________________________________________________________________________________

Flux might have walked through a few walls to test for secret rooms but unless he took a flashlight or torch along he won't see anything-assuming there was anything to see.

The functioning armor is something he would try to make work either by examination or trying on. If things went badly he would slip out of it again.

I would have liked to question the prisoners-but not on the island. Wouldn't want to take a chance on them regaining control of the place. Anybody with differing opinions speak up!

Proper Disposal Of Malignent Item

Post by Bruce »

Eldrich Arcane:

Eldrich is not surprised to learn the ring is tainted. Almost expected it.

"Thank you Lady Serena. I thought something would be wrong with it. I have no intent to use it but it's disposal may present problems. Sometimes the distruction of an evil item unleashes more misery than it ends."

Eldrich will consider the best way to render the ring useless without endangering anyone else in the process, (i.e. knowledge of arcana roll) then employ it.

"I wonder if the ring itself is the cause of the evil perpatrated by those three?"

Goldstar

Goldstar:

Goldstar dives into the waters of San Diego bay and does her best fish imitation. Even Goldie realizes that the base of the island is not natural! A sheer drop at every point? Wow! But it does save on mass if this thing does have a limit on just how much of it exists in normal space.

Goldstar flies around underwater, her usual trail of glitters flowing out behind her and to the surface like air bubbles. She carefully examines everything before finally giving up. About an hour after first going under, Goldstar flies up out of the water and lands back on the castle looking very much like a drowned rat. Thankfully she dries out rather fast.

"Major bummer!", Goldstar complains. "I didn't find anything down there!"

"Major. My people are still able to help in any capacity the city requires. If you need us back in the disaster zone we're good to go. As for setting up a command post here that's fine with us. We'll coordinate our efforts with anyone. The important thing now is seeing to the safety of the city's civilians. Whatever you need from us, ask."
"Yeah, we're here to help!", Goldstar happily chimes in. "I don't need to sleep or eat, so I can go all day long! Whatcha need us to do?"

After finding out what needs to be done, Goldstar will carry those who wish to go back to the mainland with her before setting out on her latest mission.

"You may have a point, Lord Eldrich. My knowledge of the magical arts are limited when compared to a true spellcaster."
"I wonder if the ring itself is the cause of the evil perpetrated by those three?"
Serena will shake her head at this notion. "It does not seem likely to me. I could see the ring affecting the black mage since he wore it, but how could it affect the others? The queen was intently evil, while the king was more of a buffoon. While he may have appeared to be in command, it feel it was one of the others, if not both who were secretly in command."

Later when Major Star returns, Serena will greet the PRIMUS Commander. She is concerned by his gruff behavior in the face of this crisis. While it could simply be the strain of what has transpired, over one thousand innocents dead is not to be taken lightly, it seems to the Knight that something else is at work here.

"It is as my golden companion stated, we are here to render aid as needed. Simply direct us to where we can do the most good."

Any particular spot you wish to try?
The functioning armor is something he would try to make work either by examination or trying on. If things went badly he would slip out of it again.
The armor has the same type of high tech circuitry like the headpiece and the other suit of armor. Examining it even more closely, Frostbite notes something very odd. The connections are not soldered together, but seem as if they were grown...

Trying on the armor is easy enough. The back splits open to allow one to step in and out of the armor. Once inside, the armor shrinks around Flux adapting to the outline of his body. The receptors make contact, but Flux doesn't feel any different.
Flux is prepared to work himself and his team the rest of the day and all night to help bring things to normal, securing only the necessary food/water rations and new radios for his team and any new guests that may be arriving.
Wearily, Major Star will report that, "Several unknown supers are on the loose hampering rescue efforts. There are still many blocks to cover to search for those who died or need assistance. Whatever that white affect was, it covered an area two miles in every direction from ground zero. A rough estimate places as many as 8,000 individuals within the area of effect. Thus far, one out of every eight exposed to the radiation has died. Still others were transformed in a variety of ways. Some were not affected at all."

Those standing near Major Star can't help but notice a low buzzing noise around the PRIMUS commander. The sound of power fluxuating within the man.

Lily:

Rose's comment and enthusiasm combine to bring a smile to Lily's worried face. At least her daughter doesn't seem to be being harmed by whatever-it-is.

With some experimentation, it is found that Rose and turn the light-effect on and off. Touching it, Lily discovers that it feels hard, like a plastic covering. Very strange, but then again, what hasn't been today? It occurs to Lily that, were she the type to spank her child, that would have just become very difficult. However, she has always used other forms of discipline instead, though Rose's new-found ability to fly could require some adjustment on that front.

What concerns Lily most is the fact that Rose has exibited a new ability, which means there might be others in the offing. Thus, it is even more critical that she gain what help she can find.

Moving to the computer, Lily boots it up and engages her web browser. While Rose floats about the house, Lily searches the web for information on Sanctuary, hopefully including a means to contact the staff there.

Frostbite

Frostbite mentions to Goldstar about maybe having secret passages or chambers.
"OOH! That's a good idea!", Goldstar says excitedly. "There's gotta be controls for this place. It did mention some kind of engine being damaged before, so it's gotta be somewhere! Maybe hidden here in the castle or maybe underneath it!"

"Maybe but how can we check......." he never gets to finish the sentence as Goldstar flies out of the castle and dives.

Frostbite runs to the nearest window and looks out hoping to locate her. All that he can see is a slight splash in the water. "How in the world can she stay down there?" he says in wonder to himself. He will ask her later when she gets back out of the water. "I don't mean to pry, But how is it that you could stay under the water for so long?"

Slowly he begins to make his way through the rest of the castle. After some walking in his new surroundings he comes upon the castle's library. " I wonder." he says to himself as he walks amongst the books, looking for information about the castle itself and maybe the technology that the area it came from has.

He slowly makes his way back to the others.( If anything of interest is found in the library he will carry it with him to show Flux.) When he returns to the others he will take up the crown and begin to try to remove the crystals with in it, Hopefully looking for a way to replace or reroute the crystal's power, if they still do have power. If and when Flux removes the armor, Frostbite will be seen looking from the armor to the crown looking for possible connections and similarities, Trying to gauge how the current is moving through. Strangely enough he finds one. The armor wasn't "built", noting no soldering within the housing, It appears that it was grown...... "How in the world. "Hey Flux look at this. Watching his reaction he will reply. "It has no soldering points, I don't think this was built. Call me crazy but I think it might have been grown........." he hopes he doesn't look at him if he is crazy.

A sudden thought comes to his mind. He will turn to the others. " What if this head piece and armor feed off an electric current so to speak? I have a funny feeling that it is only lying dormant. You know like a car battery that lost it's charge. Maybe we just have to put a current through it and it will repair itself?"

Major Star soon flies in with a team of people who in turn begin to look around. He thinks to himself ' I don't think they are gonna find anymore than we did.....'
"Fine, you guys can use the castle as a base. Better someone like you then someone else. We'll have to get a spotlight on it so ships can see it at night to prevent collisions. Otherwise, for the moment, you're on your own. We've got too much to handle as it is."
A smile forms across his face and he can be heard saying softly "Yes! Home sweet home." Flux in turn tells the Major we will help as best we can. "Just give me a little bit to eat and I'm ready when you are!
"Yeah, we're here to help!", Goldstar happily chimes in. "I don't need to sleep or eat, so I can go all day long! Whatcha need us to do?"
"You got to be joking.... Please tell me you at least have to breathe?" He says in a shocked sort of way.

" I think we should get a hold Of Lily and let her know what's going on. Anyone got a phone or something we can get a hold of her with?"

Goldstar's not like other girls...

Post by Goldstar »

Goldstar:

Frostbite said:
"I don't mean to pry, But how is it that you could stay under the water for so long?"
Fresh from her swim, Goldstar tries to wring the water of her long hair. Her own internal warmth just makes her dry off all the faster.

"Oh, that's easy, Frosty! I don't need to breathe air like you do. You see, my body only needs to take in hydrogen to survive. Hydrogen is in the air, in the water; it's even out in the depths of space! It's everywhere! So I just inhale hydrogen that my body breaks down to use as fuel, much like a nuclear reactor. So I don't get tired or hungry. I'm kind of like a star in human form. I can produce light and heat; give off radiation, even electromagnetic radiation! Cool, huh?"

(Golden skin + star-like powers gives you Goldstar!)

When Goldstar hears about the armor and how it was grown she'll say, "Stellar! Bioorganic material! Say, maybe this place is alive too? Maybe its shy and that's why its not talking to us?"

After Major Star gives us the rundown, Goldstar will wait for Flux's orders on how to proceed next.

A Concerned Flux

Post by Bruce »

Flux:

"Major....are you alright?"

The low buzzing and atypical behavior of the Major sets off Flux's Danger Sense!

(What, don't have that? Oh. )

Flux is concerned that Major Star has pushed himself too far and may need a rest.

He looks worn down. Does he have to exert himself to keep his power in check? I hope not.

Depending on the answer, Flux will deploy the team back to the city until the super-powered contingents arrive at the castle { might I suggest the name Castle Vigilant?} or react to the reply of Major Star.

Flux:

To Frostbite and Goldstar:

"I see what you mean Frostbite. This isn't even printed circuitry. Matches up with what I found in the walls though."

Stepping out of the organically-grown armor Flux turns to look at Goldstar.

"You are right. The castle is alive, Goldstar. I found what looks to be blood vessels and air passages inside the walls all through here. It is becoming more important that we speak with this--person as soon as possible. But it may not be shyness that's keeping the castle quiet. Maybe it needs to rest and heal for a while. I sugguest we not mention this to PRIMUS when they get here. Let them run their own checks first."

A Wizard's Conference??

Eldrich Arcane:

Eldrich is intrigued to hear that other 'special' people exist on this fragment and are coming here to help.

"Excuse the interuption please, but of these Protectors are there any perchance who practice the Art?"

Eldrich also hears the buzzing hum coming from the Major but attributes it to the inexplicable abilities that have been displayed to him all day.

Frostbite

He looks at Goldstar in disbelief when she says she doesn't have to breathe as well as shocked when she reveals she "absorbs" Hydrogen and uses it for food and air. Trying to cover his astonishment he states "That's a cool trick! You had me worried when you didn't surface right away." As he finishes the words an idea begins to form in his head. " After you left to go search the underwater areas of the castle I looked out of the upper windows where we were. You said that there were no ways in or out from underneath correct? There is a well in the courtyard area. I'm curious if there is no way in or out how is the water getting in there or is there water in there at all..... Maybe there is more to that well than appears. Care to take a look Goldstar?"

"How can it be alive? Where exactly did this castle come from!?" he says in a worried tone. "Your the boss." he says with a smile. " My lips are sealed."

When he gets back to the main land or the majors squad comes he will try to locate a small battery (9volt) and try his best to connect it to the crown in the hopes of getting a response. He will connect the positive part to a crystal and the negative to the crown's metal casing.

Serena the Healer

Post by Serena »

Serena:

The Knight is content to observe what is going on with the strange armor. She doesn't find the notion that the armor wasn't forged in the traditional manner too disturbing. Just some type of magic she is unfamiliar with. She may not be able to understand how such a thing can be; Serena simply accepts it and moves on.

Then come the revelation that this castle is actually some sort of living being!

"Then that must have been the presence I was sensing when we arrived, but I could not locate. The entire castle and island was what I detected."

"My friends, it is clear that this entity was the one who pleaded for our assistance when we first arrived. Furthermore, it must have been the voice the King was speaking too. Perhaps the crown controlled this entity, forcing it to do the King's bidding? That would explain why it covertly told Goldstar to destroy it. She freed it, but at what cost I must wonder?"

"Perhaps the entity has been wounded or otherwise hurt? That may be why I could no longer sense it. Its life essence is weak. Or it may be in hiding in fear that we will attempt to gain control of it right after being freed from the Warlord."

"I do agree with Flux," Serena continues. "Until we know the true nature of what we are dealing with, it is best that we keep this a secret from those who may exploit this creature. It has been hurt and a wounded animal is the most dangerous type."

"If it has been damaged, then perhaps I may be able to heal it. Given the size of this creature, I'm not sure where to even make the attempt. However, I must make the attempt to repair the damage done to this noble creature."

Serena will head down to the middle of the basement and choose a location near the center of the creature. Chamber 6 in the basement seems the most likely location. Once there, if only if no one other that Vigilant members are around, Serena will try to cast her healing magic. (1d6 Aid, only to return stats to normal, affects all stats, and an area effect for as many points as she can muster.)

When Lord Eldrich asks about the Protectors, Serena will respond. "I am sorry, but I have not met these individuals before. However, I do like the name they have chosen for their adventuring band."

"Stellar!", Goldstar lets out in her excitement. "A living spaceship! Don'tcha worry, Fluxie, I won't say anything to anyone!"
"That's a cool trick! You had me worried when you didn't surface right away."
Goldstar is touched by Frosties concern and gives him a hug. "Aw, that's sweet. You were worried about me. Since I can survive in deep space, needing air is not a problem to me."
"After you left to go search the underwater areas of the castle I looked out of the upper windows where we were. You said that there were no ways in or out from underneath correct? "Ohh, that's right! Funny that well being there with no other way in! Sure, I can take a look. I sure hope it's not a waste byproduct pool!"

But before Goldstar can fly off her on her latest mission, Serena speaks of trying to heal the creature. So instead, Goldstar will follow her first to see if anything comes of the Knight's attempt.

Assembling the Troops

Flux:

"Ok everyone. Take some time to eat, drink some water and meet back here in twenty minutes!
We're going back to San Diego to help out. Same teams as before. Listen on the radios for any trouble calls. Goldstar, you will have to provide air transport to the city again"

"Once we get back split off into pairs and use your best judgement as to where to go. Check in via radio about every fifteen minutes. Call anytime you need help with anything. Serena, Arcane I'll show you how to use the hand held radio and take this watch with you too."

Flux unstraps a Timex from his wrist and gives it to Serena.

"The longer arm marks the minutes, every quarter circle is fifteen. The shorter arm marks hours. There are sixty minutes in each hour."

"Everyone keep an eye on your partner. Any questions?"

"Remember, leaving on the Goldstar Express in twenty minutes!"

Eldrich Learns about Time

Post by Bruce »

Eldrich Arcane:

"Lady Serena if you wish to heal the castle's injuries I can suggest this main hallway as a place to start. As I recall the Black Magus' blast struck the ceiling and caused the entire 'structure' to shudder in pain."

Eldrich listens to the explaination of the watches' timekeeping but has a problem:

"Again, I regret to ask but even though I cannot read the runes inscripted upon the face of this item I know there are more than twelve hours in a day and night. Unless the method of timekeeping is vastly different from the one I know that cannot be right."

Eldrich rubs his forehead briefly as he tries to fit the number of hours in a day into twelve slices.

"No I am quite certain thirty hours cannot be measured with twelve symbols."
