April 13th, CR 569
Morning arrives after the very long night. Spell casters learn new magics and refresh their spell lists. One group was dispatched to explore down the hidden stairs, while another was sent to round up the horses that were scattered the night before.
Some of those not on either duty take the time to go up to the observation tower to get outside and look around.
Fort Graystone itself can be easily seen far off in the distance. Some of the main road through the pass down below can be seen as well. But there are blind spots that block sight. Portions of the forest are too thick to see through and other rocky outcroppings serve to limit what can be seen. The enemy army is mostly behind such a blind spot right now, although some of it can be see, so you have a general idea where they are at. What can be seen of the trail to Eagle's Nest is clear.Erisciana wrote:With the daytime having arrived and once her studies have been completed, the priestess will ascend the stairs to the observation point and find out what Flare has witnessed. She tries to look herself as well and see what sort of reaction the enemy army may have, especially if they are sending an additional force to deal with the Eagle's Nest now that the heroes foiled part of their plan.
Lucyus will want to keep his padding on when wearing the plate mail armor. This type of armor is essentially chain mail but with metal plates located in key locations for better protection. So much like chain mail, padding is used for skin protection while wearing plate mail.Lucyus wrote:Lucyus will smile for a moment and then stand up removing his chain mail armor. He carefully rolls the chain mail up and secures it with the clasp so it does not unroll. He peals off the padding underneath and changes into his regular clothing. Slowly and methodically he dons the plate mail armor. Once ready he gives it a few test moves, feeling the liberty of movement. ( Does he feel any different.)
The plate mail itself is heavier than the chain mail, due to the extra metal plates. But once it is fully on, the weight from the armor seems to vanish. Lucyus no longer feels slowed down from the stronger armor like he did while wearing his old chain mail. He feels that he can move faster than he could before and has more freedom of movement.
The scouts who went down the stairs have returned. Based on what they overheard they now know that a caravan will be arriving tomorrow to pick up supplies from the ancient dwarven lair. Sergeant Crandell sees this as an opportunity to set up an ambush. To that end, everyone is mounting up and will ride to find a good spot to launch this attack.
“In time yes, that is true,” Sergeant Crandell responds. “But not right now. From what I understand they were just attacked and dealt a devastating blow. They should be expecting to be attacked again and should have guards up. They will not sleep well today. We'll give them a day or two to be exhausted and when they let their guard down we'll deal with them.”Butternut wrote:"I think we may have another advantage as well, sergeant," Butternut adds. "Goblins normally sleep during the day. The drow was going off to sleep, and I believe the goblins will do likewise soon. This could give us a great opportunity to catch them unawares."
Sergeant Crandell turns towards Sann Silverbeard. “Master Silverbeard, as you are not part of the army I cannot compel you to come with us. So you can either accompany us or remain here.”
Sann looks about the area for a moment and after giving the matter some thought will say, “I'm comin' with you!”
