Crucible #18 - "Mysterious Island: Part Two"
Inside the castle on the strange island that just appeared in North San Diego Bay, the Vigilant have just been introduced to the Warlord and his associates. The Warlord demands that he heroes submit to his rule or die. They refuse and the fun begins!
"None may oppose me!", the Warlord screams in anger. "So be it! Then you shall all perish! Summon my armies, demon! Strike down my foes!" As the Warlord rants, a large battle-axe forms in his hand out of thin air. With a scream, the armored man begins to lumber down the stairs in a blood-crazed frenzy!
The armored woman and the dark robed man behind the Warlord also go into motion.
However, Goldstar is faster. With a cry of "Plasma Blast!", she fires off a blast of ionized gas that explodes in a circular area almost forty feet across! All three of the villains are caught within the fiery area.
The Warlord and his associates remain on their feet after the Plasma Blast fades away, but are angrier than ever!
"You will burn at the stake, witch!", the Warlord declares as he continues to run forward.
Behind him, the man in black robes begins to chant and make strange gestures. Eldritch recognizes the attempt to cast a magic spell and notifies his teammates.
Blackout hurtles his rod towards the black robed mage, disrupting his spell. The enemy mage is not happy. "You dare?! The Black Magus will see your soul torn apart!"
Frostbite slides up ahead of the rest of the Vigilant. He gestures at the Warlord and the armored king is blasted back by an ice ram. The attack momentarily slows the Warlord down, but he is quickly on his feet rushing to engage the heroes.
Back up on the dais, the lone woman among the three shakes off the effects of being blasted by Goldstar. "Heretics! Heathens!", she screams. "I am Queen Olivia of the Pentara, the Priestess! In the name of God, I shall smite thee down!"
The Priestess flings her gauntleted right hand out towards the hovering Goldstar and a bolt of lightning issues forth! The gold-skinned hero is struck and thrown backwards from the powerful attack causing the heroines long blonde hair to stand on end. Goldstar crashes into one of the large pillars and plummets to the grand hall floor. Remarkably, Goldstar isn't serious hurt.
"Your armies are now here," the strange and eerie voice announces. The voice seems to come from nowhere and everywhere at the same time.
There is a momentary flash of light and a squad of armored men appear before the raised dais. The Warlord looks back and sees his troops. "Onward my loyal soldiers! Death to the enemies of the Warlord!"
Meanwhile back on the mainland…
Lily is helped up by the Police Officers; Rose comes flying up and hugs her mother!
"That was wonderful, mommy! Just think, my own mommy a superhero!"
To the officers in the immediate area, Rose confidently adds, "I'm gonna be a hero when I grow up, just like my mommy!"

Flux:
Nice trick. Calling up a quick army is handy. Let's see if I can knock them down.
Flux will reduce in size, increase in density and slam into the midst of those twenty troopers, taking them out from underneath, breaking up any formation or combat style while keeping them off my teamates.
Here's an idea if you can see your way clear to making it work: Grab one trooper by the heel and swing him around in a circle!
Otherwise, striking one at a time, working my way to the back of their ranks.

So saying, the mage activates his Amulet of Shielding, the Cloak of Floating, and casts the Folded Step spell to place him above his opponent (1/2 Move Teleport) then the eldrich bolt.
I hope this Black Magus is not defended against magic. If so then I must cast summonings against him and they do not seem to last here. If only I could remember more!

Lily:
"Thank you, officer," she says as the patrolman helps her to her feet. "That zap knocked me for quite a loop."
Rose's hug gives Lily a motherly feeling of warmth. At the same time, she instinctively notes how little her daughter seems to weigh when flying. "Thank you, honey. But I'm not really sure that I'm ready for the life of a superhero."
Rose's final comment brings a look of horror to Lily's face. "Rose! Uhm... we'll need to talk about that. I'm sure there's far more to being a superhero than just being able to fly.
"Being a superhero is very dangerous - right, officer?"

Grasping Blessed Salvation tightly, a grim look comes to Serena as the warriors appear as if by magic. Regardless, this Warlord seems to be more dangerous than his troops. Serena rushes to engage this mad king.
"Your evil must not be allowed to spread beyond this place, madman! I swear that I will see you defeated and banished!"
Serena engage the Warlord in weapons combat. She'll concentrate on defense at first, trying to gauge the strength, speed, and skill of this Warlord. Try to separate him from his weapon. Should that occur, demand his immediate surrender.

Goldstar's Hair Raising Tales!
Goldstar:
"Plasma Blast!"
Goldstar is excited to see her Plasma Blast in action for the very first time. An impressed look comes to her golden features and she utters, "Stellar!"
Then the Priestess gets in on the act.
"Heretics! Heathens!", she screams.
"I am not! I'm Goldstar, solar powered heroine and all around nice person!"
The next thing Goldstar knows she's being struck by lightning! Funny, there's not even a cloud in the sky! Goldstar bounces off a pillar and lands bottom first on the floor.
"Ooof! I don’t feel so stellar! That better not have left a bruise!"
Getting her bearings, Goldstar sees the armored warriors pop into the room. "Oh, boy! The medieval evil has his own portable army! Isn't that convenient? Let me see if I can mess up his plans!"
Goldstar will fly forward over Serena who is fighting the Warlord. "Give that loony a whack for me, Serena!"

Sure am glad that hit its mark, Blackout thinks as he catches his rebounding rod, as I don't really want to see what kind of spells come out of him.
The appearance of 20 more men into the fray is not the kind of odds Blackout was hoping for. He takes a quick moment to take notice of how everyone else is pairing off before commiting to his next action. Flux I know you're confident, but let's make it a little better than 20 to 1.
"Time for a blackout," Blackout proclaims, hoping it really doesn't sound extremely cheesy. He activates his darkness power, centered on himself, and leaps into one section of the assembled soldiers, somewhere where Flux isn't. Hopefully there will be confusion with those troops suddenly in darkness around him. Blackout will use that to his advantage and begin to beat up on them with his martial arts, switching to his rod if they are too heavily armored.

This maybe a stretch but I want to try it. As he's punching I want to try to form an ice covering almost like a ball of ice over his fist.

Eldrich activates his Cloak of Floating and rises into the air. At the same time, his Amulet of Shielding creates a barrier of mystical energy around him. A moment later he vanishes!
Near the middle of the vast hall, Serena awaits the Warlord's arrival. He comes rushing in, battle-axe raised high over his head. With a primordial cry, he swings the axe with all his might!
Blessed Salvation is there to turn away the strike. With a flick of her wrist, Serena twirls her Holy Sword sending the battle-axe flying away from the startled Warlords hands.
Before Serena can issue her surrender demand, a mace shimmers into the Warlords hand, replacing his lost weapon. (In the background, the battle-axe fades back into the nothingness it came from.)
"Impudent wench!", the Warlord screams. "I shall see thee imprisoned in my dungeon for your transgressions!"
The Warlord swings wildly with his mace, but Serena steps away from the clumsy attack.
Almost unnoticed, Frostbite skates in. A mass of ice is generated around his hand, like a giant boxing glove. He smacks the Warlord in the face with most surprising results!
The Warlords bare flesh sticks to Frostbite's icy fist! The Warlord is thrown backwards from the force of the blow, dragging Frostbite with him! The two hit the ground and tumble to a stop about ten feet away from Serena!
There is a horrible ripping sound as the Warlord forcibly separates himself from Frostbite's icy fist! Still the Warlord rises!
"So be it, curs," he arrogantly states, wiping the blood away from his face. "We battle to the death!"
Eldrich shimmers into existence in the air near the Black Magus. He sends an Eldritch Bolt at the dark mage, momentarily startling him. The black robed man feels the attack, but he is still active. He sneers back at Eldrich. "If that is the strongest enchantment you can summon, then you are no more threat to me then a gentle rain is to the grass, mageling!"
Surprisingly, the Black Magus does not fling a spell Eldrich's way, instead a shield of mystic energy springs into existence around him. This shield blocks Eldrich's next Eldritch Bolt.
Elsewhere, Flux rushes into the mass of armored troops that just teleported in followed closely by Blackout. Flux shrinks as he runs and increases his density. Leaping at the closest trooper, Mini-Flux slams into the man's chest, sending him sprawling. Six more troopers also go down in a domino effect.
As Black out runs forward, a field of darkness springs into existence around him. He lands a flying kick on one of the trooped he goes flailing backwards, taking more of his comrades to the floor.
Mini-Flux finds himself standing on the chest of the man he felled. Surprisingly, the trooper seems unconscious from the impact! Jumping down, Mini-Flux grabs the man by the arm and begins to twirl him around, causing more of the troopers to crash to the floor.
Blackout continues his assault with very little resistance. Another strike and another armored warrior goes down. Whoever these guys are, they are not very good fighters!
Goldstar picks herself up off the floor after being struck by lightning courtesy of the Priestess. She flies off into the air once more. Seeing the troops already well engaged with both Flux and Blackout, Goldstar forgoes the Solar Flare attack and continues on to the Priestess.
"I am not a heathen!", Goldstar protests. "I'm Goldstar, a solar powered heroine and all around nice person!"
The gold-skinned hero launches a Photon Blast that has no affect whatsoever on the Priestess. The brown haired woman glares at Goldstar. "Child, you are sorely in need of Divine Guidance!"
As she speaks, the Priestess eyes begin to glow with white energy. A beat later, beams of energy leap from her eyes and strike Goldstar in her eyes! Suddenly, Goldstar feels the Priestess crashing into her mind, draining her will to resist away!
"Now, my pawn," the Priestess commands, "show me your new found devotion! Slay my enemies!"
"I will slay your enemies," the entrance Goldstar responds. Hovering in mid-air, Goldstar turns to her left and sees Eldrich hovering close by. She raises her arms and says, "Radiation blast!" out loud!
A stream of energy comes form her hands and slams into Eldrich's protective shield. The magic holds true and the shield withstands the force of the attack.
Back on the mainland, Lily and Rose are being thanked by the San Diego Police…
"Being a superhero is very dangerous - right, officer?"
"Yes, ma'am, but we seem to be living in very dangerous times these days. We need all the heroes we can get. That Electra woman held six of us at bay and you took her out without batting an eyelash. That makes you far better qualified in my book then me."

Confidently, Serena awaits the charge of the Warlord. The ferocity of his attacks and his battle screams suggest that he his idea of battle to is to overwhelm his opponents with brute force. Should be easy to deal with if one has skill with their weapon.
Serena allows the Warlord to try and strike her down with his battle-axe. She raises Blessed Salvation up to intercept the vicious strike. Serena is pleased to discover that the Warlord is not stronger than she is and the blow is turned aside.
Whipping Blessed Salvation about, Serena causes the Warlord to loose grasp of his weapon, sending it flying out of reach. Confident in her victory, Serena turns back to the Warlord to demand his surrender.
Instead, a mace appears in his hand as if by magic! Serena just barely sidesteps his overbearing attack. Glancing back, Serena discovers the battle-axe has now vanished. Curious.
Looking back once more, Serena can feel coldness come over her indicating that her icy teammate is close by. Frostbite skates in and punches the Warlord in the face. Was that a large clump of ice around his fist? Surprisingly the two men both go sprawling backwards!
Unsure what to make of this development, but not pausing to think about it, Serena continues forward.

Goldstar isn't right in the head!
Goldstar:
Pulling herself up off the Grand Hall's floor, Goldstar is airborne once more! I just love to fly!
Goldstar flies over the battle between Serena, Frostbite, and the Warlord. She gets a good look at the Warlord's face after part of it has been ripped of by Frosty's frosty touch!
"EEWWW!", Goldstar cries out, cutely wrinkling her nose. "Gross me out! He's going to need a plastic surgeon to fix that ugly puss!"
Continuing on, Goldstar flies over the troops as Flux and Blackout lay into them. At least she thinks its Blackout down there in the patch of darkness. Seeing as the boys are doing just fine on their own, Goldstar continues on.
Since Eldrich is taking on that creepy looking guy in the black robes, Goldstar flies toward the evil Priestess who zapped her a moment ago.
"The heathen returns," the evil woman states.
"I am not a heathen!", Goldstar protests. "I'm Goldstar, a solar powered heroine and all around nice person!"
Hovering overhead, Goldstar fires off a Photon Blast that doesn't appear to harm the Priestess in the slightest! "Oh boy… I hate it when that happens!"
The Priestess glares at me. She is NOT a nice lady! "Child, you are sorely in need of Divine Guidance!"
Goldstar starts to protest that she is not a child, but really can't argue that point. She's what? An hour old by now?
While Goldstar wrestles with that thought, the Priestess eyes begin to glow with white energy. A beat later, beams of energy leap from her eyes and strikes me in my eyes! Suddenly, Goldstar feels the Priestess crashing into her mind, draining her will to resist away!
Grabbing her head, Goldstar cries out, "Get out of my head, you evil woman!"
"Now, my pawn," the Priestess commands, "show me your new found devotion! Slay my enemies!"
Having lost the fight, Goldstar lowers her hands and scans the battlefield. Eldrich is hovering close by with his back conveniently to me. He'll do nicely!
"I will slay your enemies," the entrance Goldstar responds. Hovering in mid-air, Goldstar turns to her left and sees Eldrich hovering close by. She raises her arms and says, "Radiation blast!" out loud!
A stream of energy comes form her hands and slams into Eldrich's protective shield. The magic holds true and the shield withstands the force of the attack.
Wow! That was my most powerful attack and he shrugged it off! Must by that icky magical force sphere thingamajig!
Undaunted, Goldstar will shift into Neutron Star form and fly forward with the intent of pummeling Eldrich into a pulp!
"Neutron Star!"
Pulling herself up off the Grand Hall's floor, Goldstar is airborne once more! I just love to fly!
Goldstar flies over the battle between Serena, Frostbite, and the Warlord. She gets a good look at the Warlord's face after part of it has been ripped of by Frosty's frosty touch!
"EEWWW!", Goldstar cries out, cutely wrinkling her nose. "Gross me out! He's going to need a plastic surgeon to fix that ugly puss!"
Continuing on, Goldstar flies over the troops as Flux and Blackout lay into them. At least she thinks its Blackout down there in the patch of darkness. Seeing as the boys are doing just fine on their own, Goldstar continues on.

As he is about to summon a rock-ape simulacrium Goldstar fires her attack against him and Eldrich turns in surprise.
She is ensorcelled! And coming to crush me! I know what invoking 'Neutron Star!' means.
Too swift to avoid with a Cloak of Floating, Eldrich can only use The Folding Step spell to evade Goldstar, moving as far away as he can in a half move without dropping closer to the ground.
I should know how to break enchantments, but as I do not I shall break the enchanter instead.
If he can, Eldrich will play Tag with Goldstar via Teleports, and aim EB Indirect at the Queen.

*"Blackout, I'm going to have to bail on you. There's a royal pain I have to excise. Try not to finish them all off before I get back."*
With that said into the radio, now miniaturized with him, Flux wades down into the floor until only his nose is above ground and heads for her majesty.
Just like wading through a river-without the wet, mud, snakes, smell.....

Frostbite skates forward watching the battle between Serena and King otto unfold. The king swings his axe as hard as he can Serena blocks and disarms him. His axe goes sailing to the side. He watches as Serena covers him with her sword just as a mace appears in his hand. "Look out!!!" he yells as the king swings his weapon missing wildly.
He covers the ground between them quickly and begins to concentrate on his fist as he punches. In mid swing an Ice glove begins to form around his hand. A loud crack his heard as his ice engulfed hand makes contact with the King's face.
Frostbite's eyes widen as he realizes his fist is attached to the man's face. "Oh noooooo."Unfortunitly he cant do anything about it as the momentum carries the two men to the floor. A ripping sound his heard as they tear apart from each other.
Looking at the man's now disfigured face is disgusting to behold. He wipes the blood away from his face "So be it curs, We battle to the Death!"
"Well struck, my frosty friend! Together let us stop this madman once and for all!"
"Ladies first," he says with a grin.
Frostbite will pry the man's flesh from his fist and tosses it at the man. "You Look much better now, Lets see if we can make you more handsome." Frostbite begins to raise his hands to strike as the radio goes off.
*"Blackout, I'm going to have to bail on you. There's a royal pain I have to excise. Try not to finish them all off before I get back."*

Backing off as he answers the radio, "It will be my pleasure. But save some for me!"
Turning to Serena, " I'll be right back, I trust that you can handle him?"
Frostbite will move toward the 20 fighters as well as his two comrades, He will begin to concentrate on erecting a wall around the men Flux indicated. "Here is a little play pen for you guys."

Blackout's flying kick sends one warrior sprawling where he gets underfoot of several of his comrades. A bit too easy, I don't like it he thinks to himself and he knocks over another warrior with a well-placed kick.
Blackout will defend himself as needed until Frostbite puts up his icy wall at which time he will vault out and concentrate his attacks, using his rod to keep at a distance, on the sorceror he pegged earlier.

"Nevertheless, my daughter is only 7 years old. Surely you cannot be so desperate as to suggest that she should risk that danger..." While not actually angry, Lily's expression is most serious.
