Sylvan Realm #23 (#67)

December 3rd, CR 571 or Deepnight 25th, 20,519 AP

The newly arrived elves from the Elfholds have started to migrate back to their ancient Clan Holds. Most are traveling on foot, but Clan Long Runner was given a lift on the Sunflower as their Clan Hold is just across the Satheas River from the Elfin Palace.

The Sunflower docked at Pinit:
Kylie wrote:"I'm sure I'll pick it up over time."
“Oh, I'm sure you will,” Gweyr easily answers in regards to Kylie picking up the individual traits that are associated with each clan. “Its like most things in life, the more you are exposed to it, practice it, the easier it becomes.”
Kylie wrote:"Exactly. I knew you'd pick it up quickly, Mom." Kylie pauses a moment in thought. "You may find that knowing how to fly one of these will come in handy some day."
“That is entirely possible,” Allurien admits. “Better to know how to do it than try and learn on the fly, so to speak.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie pauses a second, caught off guard by Gweyr's question. "Not that I've seen so far, Gweyr, though it's a good question. As long as you're close enough, it seems to absorb the raw magic from the spell during the casting, so that it doesn't really get a chance to manifest the intended effect. How it would work if you cast at it from a distance, I don't know."
“That's handy,” Gweyr observes. “As a Fire Mage most of my magicks are hot and destructive. I have to be careful not to cause harm to others. Or to set wooden ships on fire.”
Lilia wrote:“Perhaps someday,” Lilia will agree. “With just one ship, its not a much of an issue. But if we should acquire more, that would change things.”
“Someday has a way of coming up on you before you expect it,” Doriath notes. “You would be better served to have plans for such a thing in place and not need them than to need them and not have a plan.”
Kylie wrote:Hearing Gweyr's comment, Kylie looks down and laughs. "My friend Argent said the same thing!"
“It does seem like a most convenient and practical way to explore,” Gweyr notes. “A place to carry more supplies than you probably ever need instead of only what you can carry. A warm and dry place to relax for the night instead of sleeping on the hard ground.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie flies partway down to where she can better explain to her mom and Gweyr without having to shout. "That is part of the environmental support that is tied to the Engine function that provides lift. If you reach out to your Engine, you should be able to sense that function. It essentially creates a bubble around the ship of static air. The ship is much too fast; without it, we might not be able to breathe, much less stand up. It also provides air in case we fly out between the worlds."
“Amazing!” is Gweyr's response.

Allurien simply nods her understanding. “I think it also protects the ship itself from coming apart from moving in this manner.”

“And that is a good thing!” Gweyr chimes in.

After just a two hour flight, the Sunflower as docked at Pinit. Numerous small docks, most sized for riverboats from the looks of it, litter the coastline. There are more such docks out on the island that holds the Elfin Palace.

As the Long Runners start to disembark, Lilia realizes that no guards were among them like with the other traveling clans. So she directs those who are able to go forth and explore Pinit to make sure it is free of danger.
Lilia wrote:While disembarking, Lilia comes across High Priestess Soliana of the One and the Three.

“High Priestess,” Lilia calls out. “Do you have anyone to accompany you to your temple? We have no idea what is waiting for you there.”
“No, we do not,” Soliana answers. “Onas Brightsword was to meet us at the Temple when he was done leading his clan to their Clan Hold. But we heard about you traveling to Pinit by airship just this morning and I have not seen him to alert him of the change in plans.”

“Perhaps we can assist the followers of Angharradh?” Mclandrach Inalon, the High Priest of Corellon Larethian, calls out. “It will take time for Clan Long Runner to settle in and Pinit to be explored. Even longer for the Elfin Palace to be explored and the temple of the All-Father located. In the meantime, we can travel with the followers of the One and the Three to insure their temple is safe.”

“We would welcome your company,” High Priestess Soliana responds graciously.

When ready, the two priesthoods start to make the trip up the road back to the Mother Tree. Soliana estimates that the Temple of Trifold Harmony is only a few miles away. Two, perhaps three miles in distance.

While the elves disembark and start to unload their supplies, others move into Pinit to explore. The Chosen spent a night here during their quest to restore the Mother Tree, but didn't really look around much. Kylie flies off to explore overhead, while Talen and Dapple follow Lia and as she moves forward. Allurien, Gweyr, Queen Lilia and Andlin join the search as well.

Pinit seems like a typical elfin town. There is some construction on the ground, but most of the living areas are up in the trees. A long rope bridge connects from Pinit, across the Satheas River to one of the two griffon landing areas of the Elfin Palace. Several riverboats were pulled out of the water age ago have been overgrown by grass and weeds in the passing of time. At first glance, Pinit seems to be about one and half times bigger than the Feador Clan Hold.

A large oak tree stands in the center of town. Those who pass by it get the feeling that they are being watched. Queen Lilia and those with her inspect the tree closer. Sure enough, the tree opens it's eyes and a mouth forms. “Welcome Elflings,” the tree calls out in a slow and halting voice. “Have you returned?”

High overhead, Kylie flies about. The houses here seem to be in good shape and are surprisingly clean. Although, the homes at Feadiel were mostly clean as well, but that was due to the brownies who lived there. Movement off in the distance is noted out of the corner of her eye and Kylie flies off in the direction.

Kylie approaches a high balcony at a large tree home. As she draws closer several cats are noted. These look like the typical tabbies that wandered the streets of Elcadan. Most of the cats scamper off and out of sight, while one watches Kylie curiously, its head cocked to one side.

When she is close enough, the cat will speak, in elfish, to Kylie. “Why are you here?”

Back down on the ground, Lia and Talen explore, followed by Dapple. The cooshee suddenly senses something and runs off with Lia and Talen giving chase. Dapple darts behind a huge tree and when the brother and sister catch up once more, they can see what Dapple was so interested in. Behind the tree was another pack of cooshee's! There are fifteen of the elfin dogs and they greet Dapple warmly. The rush towards Lia and Talen to introduce themselves with a friendly wag of their tales.

The Road West:

The road leading west from the Mother Tree hugs the Nasiron river as it flows to the ocean. Along the way, a group of centaurs were spotted approaching the elfin settlers. Laucian has gone ahead to speak with them, as he can address them in the centaur native tongue.
Laucian wrote:“Well met Lakandras.” He says bowing slightly in respect. “I am Laucian Nailo of Clan Grunalf, Leader of the Order of Golden Griffons and Cleric of The Lady of Forests. Are you a follower of Ehlonna?” he asks curiously to Lakandras.
“Yes,” Lakandras says in surprise. “I am a Ranger in the service of Ehlonna. I welcome you, Forest Brother. This is most unexpected.”
Laucian wrote:“My apologies, In my short time here in the Sylvan Realm I have only met Philantus, Caperling and Galelus tribe. We saved Caperling from the evil mage that accursed this land with evil men and orc alike.”
“There are several tribes scattered among the great forest,” Lakandras answers. “But we mostly keep to ourselves.”
Laucian wrote:“Your Legends speak the truth. Many moons ago many elves left while many remained to tend to the Mother tree. An evil was cast upon these lands in the form of a human mage who brought orc, evil men and Fire giants. A black dragon was also seen within his ranks. My companions and I defeated this Moorkroft and freed the hidden elves from their wooden prisons. Even freeing Caperling from the mage’s grasp and returning him to his tribe.”
“We know of the black hordes,” Lakandras says. “They cause nothing but misery to our kind. You say that they are no more? No more riders on wyverns chasing us from the skies?”
Laucian wrote:“The Rainbow was a bridge from the mother tree to the daughter tree in the Elfholds. Many Elves returned to reclaim what they left so long ago, to renew lost friendships.” Laucian adds. “Our people once were allies and sought each other out in times of need. We elves have rekindled the Alliances of old with Galelus tribe and I would wish it so with Astades Tribe.”
“We of the Astades Tribe would welcome a return to the old ways,” Lakandras. “If the black hordes are truly gone, then you have proven yourselves to us and we welcome you back.”
Laucian wrote:“There are many Followers of Ehlonna with us whom wish to see her shrine restored. The remainder elves wish to see their ancestral homes reclaimed. Would you and your people be willing to help us?” he asks curiously to the centaur leader.
“We will help you,” Lakandras states. “There are two large abandoned settlements on the shores of the Nasiron River, with smaller ones within the woods. What settlement are these elves bound for?”

“I have visited the shrine of the Lady of the Forests before,” Lakandras admits. “When I was young I heard her call and traveled there. The unicorns taught me how I could serve her and I continue to do so to this very day. We have a few followers among the Astades Tribe.”

The Road South:

On the road leading south from the Mother Tree, this procession of clans has been stopped by the discovery of a watcher in the woods. Onyx called out and the watcher seems to have answered suggesting that it is also cat-like.
Onas wrote:"So it would seem, and a big one at that," Onas replies in a soft voice.
“I thought elfin cats where small?” Fayrianna says in confusion. “But this, this sounds like a mountain lion!”

A tabby as large as a cooshee comes forth. It's head is four feet above the ground and it has grayish-green fur. It looks at everyone with seeming disinterest. Laucian's cooshee's seem equally disinterested in the great cat.
Onas wrote:"Aren't you a beauty?" Onas says as he dismounts at a measured pace. "How did you come to be out here?" Mentally reviewing his supplies, Onas realizes that he has nothing to feed a carnivore of this nature. Clearly, from its size and health, it is more than capable of feeding itself.
“I never thought I would live to see one of these!” Elder Treelife remarks with a wide smile. “This is not an elfin cat, this is a faerie cat. A cath shee. They have never been seen one in the Elfholds as far as I know.”
Onas wrote:Summoning whatever his training has taught him about felines, Onas begins to move slowly at an angle that will bring him closer to the creature, but not approach directly or too close. If it decides to move, he will move in a parallel path. As he walks, he continues to talk calmly and softly, telling the cat how much he admires its beauty, grace, and power.
The cath shee continues to just stand there, looking back and forth between Onas and his tiny cousin Onyx.

“Try this,” Elder Treelife suggests. Looking back Onas can see that the Elder has a piece of jerky in his hand. “Its some of the food Laucian provided for Onyx. Perhaps this one would like a taste of meat as well.”
Onas wrote:Stopping a respectful distance away, Onas holds his hand out, open, to allow the cat to get his scent. "Would you like to be friends?" He waits, allowing it to decide whether or not to approach.
If offered the jerky, the cath shee will move closer and give it a curious smell. It will than take up the jerky into its mouth, chew it a few times and than swallow. After that, the great cat bounds off into the woods once more and is quickly gone from sight.

Now what?

Laucian
“Yes,” Lakandras says in surprise. “I am a Ranger in the service of Ehlonna. I welcome you, Forest Brother. This is most unexpected.”
“May the Lady of the Forests smile upon you and your kin, Forest Brother. I am a ranger cleric in her service as well. It would seem that these past few days have been unexpected but with welcomed surprises. There are many of our number within the column before you. We are to travel to Ehlonna’s shrine with the new High Priest of the shrine. Perhaps you would wish to join us on our pilgrimage?” he asks in respect.
“There are several tribes scattered among the great forest,” Lakandras answers. “But we mostly keep to ourselves.”
“I look forward to meeting them and getting to know their people as I will yours. Is there a reason why you have keep to your selves? ” He asks curiously.
“We know of the black hordes,” Lakandras says. “They cause nothing but misery to our kind. You say that they are no more? No more riders on wyverns chasing us from the skies?”
“Both Wyrverns and riders were dealt a mortal blow. Many fell from the skies in battle others died as their stables burned. All the stables we found have been burnt to ash. I am sure there maybe remnants, as some roots are stubborn and dug in deep.” Laucian says evenly to his Forest Brother. “The Chosen, as we elves have been come to be known, Fought Moorkroft and defeated him. His forces that were located on the outlining forts saw the Mother tree return and sought to destroy it. With the Mother tree restored many elves appeared and we sought to battle the plague before it reached our homes, our woods and streams. The evil was repulsed, broken and driven away, their forts turned to ash. Their occupation of these lands a bad dream to be forgotten in the coming light. The Golden Griffons, my order, will begin to see to the skies. As well as unit of Forest riders will patrol the forests. I cannot speak of Onas, But I am sure he would welcome your help in seeing to our lands safety.”
“We of the Astades Tribe would welcome a return to the old ways,” Lakandras. “If the black hordes are truly gone, then you have proven yourselves to us and we welcome you back.”
Laucian gets down from Aura as she paws the ground. Giving her a pats on the flank, “Get Valena, Tell her to come with the Leaders of the Clans and Klovar, All is well.” He says in Elvish. He watches Aura go and looks back at the Centaurs Walking forward Laucian puts out his hand in a warrior’s grip Looking up into Lakandras’ eyes. “I would be honoured to call you and your tribe friends.”
“We will help you,” Lakandras states. “There are two large abandoned settlements on the shores of the Nasiron River, with smaller ones within the woods. What settlement are these elves bound for?”
“I thank you for your help, Forest Brother. And to all of your kin.” He says bowing his head in respect to each in turn. “Leromyr is the name of one settlement, than the remaining clan will move on to Desnae. I have instructed my Griffon to inform Valena, our Forest sister and the Clan leaders to come forth so that they may meet you.”
“Do you or your people know of any dangers that may reside in those areas?” he asks curiously.
“I have visited the shrine of the Lady of the Forests before,” Lakandras admits. “When I was young I heard her call and traveled there. The unicorns taught me how I could serve her and I continue to do so to this very day. We have a few followers among the Astades Tribe.”
“They are always a sight to see. They are Majestic and Beautiful. I was raised by The Lady of Forests’ clergy and the Elder’s of my clan. I heard Ehlonna’s call at a young age too. I did not wish any elf to suffer the fate my father and mother met. With her guidance and grace, I see to my kin and Forests’ safety.”
( I know I repeated myself. It just seemed natural.)

Lia
With Talen-
“You need a big hat,” Talen observes as he steps beside his sister. “The kind that grandma wore so that the light doesn't hurt you so much. So I take it that you were among the new arrivals yesterday? I hope nothing bad happened. You know how elves can be at times.”
Lia snorts out a laugh upon hearing her brother’s words. “That horrid thing? I used to make fun of that all the time..” Always honest and true. “The next we see her we can see if I can borrow one.” She says with a cheesy smile and bumps her shoulder into her brother playfully. “Aye I was. For a time I elf watched. It was interesting to see how the elves interacted with one another. One even snuck up on me and we spoke for a few moments before he disappeared into he crowd.”
“No. Nothing bad happened.” She says looking out at the passing scenery, “ Quite the contrary!” She says lighting up to her brother. “Lilia called me forward infront of all the clan leaders. And when she did she explained to the council what we did and the boons each of us was given. I think many a stubborn belief may have been shifted. Elder Treelife thanked me and gave me a hug. Even the King of the Elfholds said that we have given him much to think of!”
“I don't feel any different,” Talen says. “I don't feel special. Yet everyone seems to think that I am. Sometimes I just wish things were simpler.”
“But you are special! You are one of a kind! Not because of you have been touched by the Elders but because you are you.” She says looking up from beneath her cowl. Taking his hand in hers Lia takes a breath and says. “I know that this may sound harsh or mean but I have to say it. Stop worrying what everyone thinks of you. It is what you think and you believe. Be true to yourself and be true to what is in here.” Taking a her free hand and placing it by his heart. “You were chosen for a reason, a reason I cannot say. Perhaps you only need to stay true to yourself and the answers will come.”
Lia begins to move out into the town. She realizes it is laid out like the Mother tree compound. Several buildings are seen and many more above even a rope bridge leads across the river. Seeing Talen join her she turns to her brother, “ I wouldn’t mind seeing where that goes.” She says indicating the rope bridge.
Soon after Dabble hears something and takes off running. Lia runs after as Talen does the same. As they round a tree a pack of cooshee come into view and greet Dabble eagerly then turn and see the twins.
The rush towards Lia and Talen to introduce themselves with a friendly wag of their tails. Lia takes a step back at first as 15 cooshee come running at her wagging their tales. She evenly leans down and pets as many in turn as she can. Reaching into her pack she will take out some of her rations and give them to the cooshee. “It seems the cooshee thrive where elves live. I wonder what else lives here.” She says looking at the brother.
Lia will continue to look around picking the first ground construction she sees and look about.
The last thing you shall hear is the bladesong of my sword.

Kylie Lanthorn the Half-Elven:
Talen wrote:“I just seem to be along for the ride,” Talen observes with a goofy grin. “Yes, it is a fine day. I'm happy that you are happy.”
Kylie cocks her head to one side and just looks at Talen for a moment, then snorts in amusement. "Sure."
Talen wrote:“We'll see what was left behind,” Talen answers easily. “I just wonder how far we can explore with those thorns in the way. I forgot what I did with that pendant I had.”
Brushing her hair out of her eyes with her hand, Kylie considers Talen's question a moment. "We have a significantly larger group this time, and Moorkroft won't be there to interfere. I'm sure we'll find some way past the thorns, even if that means hacking them down with swords and axes.

"As for the pendant, no doubt Lilia already has a plan for that. She always does..."

Gweyr wrote:“Oh, I'm sure you will,” Gweyr easily answers in regards to Kylie picking up the individual traits that are associated with each clan. “Its like most things in life, the more you are exposed to it, practice it, the easier it becomes.”
"True," Kylie says.

Gweyr wrote:“That's handy,” Gweyr observes. “As a Fire Mage most of my magicks are hot and destructive. I have to be careful not to cause harm to others. Or to set wooden ships on fire.”
Nodding, Kylie responds, "As long as you're close to it, there shouldn't be a problem."

Gweyr wrote:“It does seem like a most convenient and practical way to explore,” Gweyr notes. “A place to carry more supplies than you probably ever need instead of only what you can carry. A warm and dry place to relax for the night instead of sleeping on the hard ground.”
"Yeah, it really does solve a lot of problems for an adventurer, that's for sure." Kylie thinks for a second. "And it can get you where you're going very quickly."

Gweyr and Allurien both seem very impressed by the value of the air 'bubble' around the ship. A thought occurs to Kylie while they talk. "I wonder if it would allow the ship to travel underwater?"

Talen" wrote:“Yeah, it'll be good to get out and stretch my legs a bit,” Talen notes as he follows the others. Talen will head off with Lia as she searches the Clan Hold.
Kylie gives Talen a smile. "Yup, you've been cooped up on this ship too long."

Flying over the town brings back memories of their previous short visit. They had camped on the very edge of town. The following morning, they passed quickly through and north on the road toward the geyser fields, so they hadn't really seen much of the town.

From her aerial recon, she gets a much better sense of the town and its layout. In truth, it doesn't seem that different from Feadiel, though somewhat larger. Considering how long it has been since anyone inhabited the town, it is in surprisingly good condition. Most of the buildings and bridges seem sturdy, and it is cleaner than she would have expected. Perhaps it had not been entirely uninhabited.

Catching a glimpse of movement, Kylie glides over in that direction. It had seemed to be in the vicinity of one of the tree-houses, so Kylie investigates more closely. She spots a number of cats on the home's balcony, so that must be the movement she spotted. Floating in closer, most of the cats slip away, but one stays and eyes her curiously.
When she is close enough, the cat will speak, in elfish, to Kylie. “Why are you here?”
Surprised, Kylie jerks to a stop. "You can speak--" she mutters in Elvish, amazed. Gathering her wits, she responds in a more dignified manner. "Excuse me, I've never met a talking cat before. I am Kylie Lanthorn, and we have come to help some members of Clan Long Runner restore and resettle this town. We also intend to clear out and restore the Royal Palace." Kylie points at the vine-covered palace on the island in the river.

"Who might you be?"

Onas Brightsword:
Fayrianna wrote:“I thought elfin cats where small?” Fayrianna says in confusion. “But this, this sounds like a mountain lion!”
"So did I," Onas replies with a shrug. He's really not sure what to expect here. "Maybe it is a mountain lion. We really don't know what all might live in the Realm now."

Elder Treelife wrote:“I never thought I would live to see one of these!” Elder Treelife remarks with a wide smile. “This is not an elfin cat, this is a faerie cat. A cath shee. They have never been seen one in the Elfholds as far as I know.”
"A fairie cat? I've never heard of those," Onas says. "What can you tell us about them, Elder?" Onas cannot help marveling at the size, beauty, and grace of this massive predator.

Elder Treelife wrote:“Try this,” Elder Treelife suggests. Looking back Onas can see that the Elder has a piece of jerky in his hand. “Its some of the food Laucian provided for Onyx. Perhaps this one would like a taste of meat as well.”
Onas steps toward Elder Treelife and accepts the dried meat. "Thank you, Elder."

He returns to his previous position relative to the cat, and holds the jerky out in his hand. Curious, the cath shee moves closer and sniffs the dried meat in his hand. Apparently, it finds the meat acceptable. Onas feels its rough tongue on his hand as the fairie cat takes the offering, chews, and swallows. "There. That was tasty, wasn't it?" he says to the cath shee, which responds by bounding off into the woods.

Onas turns back towards the others. "Well, I guess that is that. Perhaps it will think pleasantly of us, should we encounter it again in the future. It sure was beautiful, though."

Mounting up on Carad Orod, Onas returns to the leaders near the head of the column. "It seems we were the object of some curiosity for what Elder Treelife referred to as a cath shee, or fairie cat. It is gone now. I believe we can proceed safely."

Lilia:
Doriath wrote:“Someday has a way of coming up on you before you expect it,” Doriath notes. “You would be better served to have plans for such a thing in place and not need them than to need them and not have a plan.”
“Wise council,” Lilia has to agree. “We do need sailors and those experienced in the sailing of vessels. I can slowly turn the ship, but with an experienced crew and by using the sails it can be done much faster. We would be an easy target in any combat situation.”

At Lilia's suggestion, the others go forth to explore Pinit to make sure it is safe for the new arrivals. The Priests of the One and the three are seen disembarking and Lilia wonders if they have any protection.
Soliana wrote:“No, we do not,” Soliana answers. “Onas Brightsword was to meet us at the Temple when he was done leading his clan to their Clan Hold. But we heard about you traveling to Pinit by airship just this morning and I have not seen him to alert him of the change in plans.”
“I see,” Lilia states. “It will most likely take several days for Onas to arrive.”
Mclandrach wrote:“Perhaps we can assist the followers of Angharradh?” Mclandrach Inalon, the High Priest of Corellon Larethian, calls out. “It will take time for Clan Long Runner to settle in and Pinit to be explored. Even longer for the Elfin Palace to be explored and the temple of the All-Father located. In the meantime, we can travel with the followers of the One and the Three to insure their temple is safe.”
“What a wonderful idea, High Priest!” Lilia remarks. “That will solve that problem.”
Soliana wrote:“We would welcome your company,” High Priestess Soliana responds graciously.

When ready, the two priesthoods start to make the trip up the road back to the Mother Tree. Soliana estimates that the Temple of Trifold Harmony is only a few miles away. Two, perhaps three miles in distance.
The High Priestess agrees and the two faiths begin their journey to the nearby temple.

Lilia moves into the town to get a better look around. She was not present when the Chosen pasted through here, so this is all new to here. Andlin is close by, along with Allurien and Gweyr.
Lilia is not completely surprised when the suspicious tree in the middle of town turns out to be a treant. They have been encountered before during the quest to restore the Mother Tree.

“Well met, ancient of the forest,” Lilia says in greeting. “Yes, the elves have returned. The black mage Moorkroft has been defeated and his armies broken. Peace has returned to the Sylvan Realm. Do you remember when elves lived here?”

Valena:

Valena keeps watch while trying to not be too impatient. The meeting seems to be going well as the centaurs seem to be at ease. Unexpectedly, Aura flies back to us without Laucian!

“Hello, Aura,” Valena calls out at the griffon comes closer. “Do you have a message?”

“Laucian says that all is well with the centaurs,” Valena calls out so that those around here can understand. “He asks that Klovar, Clan Master Ocing, Clan Master Stobon and myself go forth to speak with them. It is time to meet the neighbors.”

Valena will store her bow and join the others as we walk towards the centaurs. She'll instruct her cooshee's to stay back here, but will have River Blossom come along.

I'm sure we'll find some way past the thorns, even if that means hacking them down with swords and axes.”

"As for the pendant, no doubt Lilia already has a plan for that. She always does..."
“Maybe,” Talen says with a shrug. “I just hope that illusionary dragon is gone!”
Lia wrote:Lia snorts out a laugh upon hearing her brother’s words. “That horrid thing? I used to make fun of that all the time..” Always honest and true.
“Really?'”, Talen says in surprise. “I had no idea.”
Lia wrote:“The next we see her we can see if I can borrow one.” She says with a cheesy smile and bumps her shoulder into her brother playfully.
“Well, we'll have to get you a more stylish one,” Talen teases. “After all you have a reputation to maintain.”
Lia wrote:“Aye I was. For a time I elf watched. It was interesting to see how the elves interacted with one another. One even snuck up on me and we spoke for a few moments before he disappeared into he crowd.”
“Elves can be sneaky quiet,” Talen notes.
Lia wrote:“No.
“Wow!” Talen says. “I would have liked to seen that. Elder Treelife was nice to us when we were in Ainsun. Is he staying in the Sylvan Realm?”
Lia wrote:“But you are special!
Talen really doesn't know what to say in response to all of that. Lia has always been supportive of him. He'll give her a hug and say, “Thanks.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie gives Talen a smile. "Yup, you've been cooped up on this ship too long."
“Yes, ma'am!” Talen calls out as he follows Lia and Dapple out into town.
Lia wrote:Lia begins to move out into the town. She realizes it is laid out like the Mother tree compound. Several buildings are seen and many more above even a rope bridge leads across the river. Seeing Talen join her she turns to her brother, “ I wouldn’t mind seeing where that goes.” She says indicating the rope bridge.
“It goes to the griffon landing area of the palace,” Talen explains. “We crossed it after that leaving the palace.”
Lia wrote:The rush towards Lia and Talen to introduce themselves with a friendly wag of their tails. Lia takes a step back at first as 15 cooshee come running at her wagging their tales. I wonder what else lives here.” She says looking at the brother.
“Hello there,” Talen says in greetings to the new pack of cooshee's. “Its almost they were waiting for the elves to arrive.” Talen will likewise offer some rations of the elfin dogs seem hungry.

“Other things might live here,” Talen continues. “But with cooshee's on guard I doubt it is anything bad.”

Post Continued:

The clans continue their travels to their ancient clan holds. Following the road west from the Mother Tree along the Nasiron River the settlers of Clans Chossum and Erendyl have encountered a group of centaurs...

The Road West:
Laucian wrote:“May the Lady of the Forests smile upon you and your kin, Forest Brother.
“I think I would like that,” Lakandras answers.
Laucian wrote:“I look forward to meeting them and getting to know their people as I will yours. Is there a reason why you have keep to your selves? ” He asks curiously.
“We centaurs need a great deal of food to survive,” Lakandras answers. “Too many of us in the same area would quickly deplete food sources.”
Laucian wrote:“Both wyverns and riders were dealt a mortal blow. Many fell from the skies in battle others died as their stables burned. All the stables we found have been burnt to ash. I am sure there maybe remnants, as some roots are stubborn and dug in deep.” Laucian says evenly to his Forest Brother. “The Chosen, as we elves have become to be known, Fought Moorkroft and defeated him.
By now, the other centaurs with Lakandras trot up to join him. They catch what Laucian said and start to talk among themselves. Lakandras will introduce the others of his group. They spotted the rainbow bridge arriving at the Mother Tree yesterday from their village and came to investigate when they found the elfin settlers.

“We had no idea,” Lakandras will finally say. “It has been weeks since we've seen signs of the black horde, but that is not uncommon. If they are gone and the elves are back, than this is wonderful news for us all.”
Laucian wrote:“I thank you for your help, Forest Brother.

“We do not know the names of the places, but we centaurs have passed through them,” Lakandras explains. “The closest is back down the road and across the river. We camped there last night on way to discover the reason for the day long rainbow. A pack of elfin dogs were seen, but they kept their distance from us.”

The place Lakandras speaks of would correspond to Leromyr as it sits where the Nasiron River forks. The Nasiron continues on to the ocean, while the fork that winds its way to the swamp is the Hafalon River. This tribe of centaurs has their home about halfway between Leromyr and the swamp along the Hafalon River.

“The other large town is along the coast on small islands in the river as it merges with the ocean,” Lakandras continues. “We do not go there very much, as it is far away. I have heard tales of humans with sailing ships being there before. Not all the time, as the black hordes will attack them, but at times.”

Back with the rest of the settlers, Aura delivers Laucian's message to Valena. She in turns alerts the others around her.

“It is good that these centaurs are friendly,” Klovar notes. “They have always lived peacefully with the elves.”

“Indeed.” Clan Master Ocing adds. “They were welcomed trade partners back in the Elfholds. I imagine that they will be so again here in the Sylvan Realm.”

After a few minutes, the small group walks up to Laucian and the centaurs. The centaurs are in awe of River Blossom as few have ever seen a unicorn. Friendly conversation follows. The centaurs agree to lead the settlers to the nearest Clan Hold, that being Leromyr. All the settlers will spend tonight there. The next day Clan Chossum will continue on towards Cesnae. Lakandras will accompany the Followers of Ehlonna to their nearby shrine.

Any other questions for the centaurs?

The Road South:
Onas wrote:"So did I," Onas replies with a shrug. He's really not sure what to expect here. "Maybe it is a mountain lion. We really don't know what all might live in the Realm now."
“Aye,” Fayrianna answers with a shrug.
Onas wrote:"A faerie cat? I've never heard of those," Onas says. "What can you tell us about them, Elder?" Onas cannot help marveling at the size, beauty, and grace of this massive predator.
“Not much is really known about the Cath Shee ,” Elder Treelife explains. “Mostly rumors and half-truths. There those who say these great cats were created by Corellon Larethian to be companions to the elves. Another rumor has it that they are the reincarnated spirits of evil elves sent back to the defend elfin lands to atone for their crimes.”

“They are mostly solitary creatures, except in mating season,” Elder Treelife continues. “There are rumors that they can be a companion to an elf. Never a pet as they are both too clever and independent to be controlled that way.”
Onas wrote:Onas steps toward Elder Treelife and accepts the dried meat. "Thank you, Elder."

He returns to his previous position relative to the cat, and holds the jerky out in his hand. Curious, the cath shee moves closer and sniffs the dried meat in his hand. Apparently, it finds the meat acceptable. Onas feels its rough tongue on his hand as the faerie cat takes the offering, chews, and swallows.

"It seems we were the object of some curiosity for what Elder Treelife referred to as a cath shee, or faerie cat. It is gone now. I believe we can proceed safely."
With the Cath Shee seemingly satisfying its curiosity, the great cat bounds off and is soon lost in the underbrush. The procession of settlers continues down the southern road.

A few more hours later, the settlers reach a fork in the road. The road leading to Mealiel is reached. At this point the clans will separate. Clan Grunalf will continue south and towards the griffon stable by the geyser field. Clans Mealidil and Red Arrow will take the road going west as Mealiel is the Mealidil clan hold. The distance to Walltree, the Red Arrow Clan Hold is bit shorter going this way.

Goodbyes are said to Clan Elder Treelife as he and Laucian's cooshee's and cat Onyx continue on to the south.

“Farewell for now,” Elder Treelife calls out. “Safe journey to your homes.”

Pinit:
Lilia wrote:“Wise council,” Lilia has to agree. “We do need sailors and those experienced in the sailing of vessels. I can slowly turn the ship, but with an experienced crew and by using the sails it can be done much faster. We would be an easy target in any combat situation.”
“So having a navy right now would be beneficial,” Doriath notes.

Kylie wrote:Gweyr and Allurien both seem very impressed by the value of the air 'bubble' around the ship. A thought occurs to Kylie while they talk. "I wonder if it would allow the ship to travel underwater?"
“I think I would rather not find out,” Allurien answers. “Sinking your own ship doesn't make a lot of sense.”

Traveling on the Sunflower, Clan Long Runner has already reached their Clan Hold Pinit. As the settlers disembark with the belongings, some of the Chosen go forth to make sure the town is safe. A variety of occupants are found in Pinit. A treant lives in the center of town. Allurien, Gweyr and Andlin all smile in joy upon meeting the sentient tree.
Lilia wrote:“Well met, ancient of the forest,” Lilia says in greeting. “Yes, the elves have returned. The black mage Moorkroft has been defeated and his armies broken. Peace has returned to the Sylvan Realm. Do you remember when elves lived here?”
“Long ago,” the tree slowly speaks. “When I was much younger, yes, there were elves here. They were friendly to me.”

“As we shall be, oh great one,” Gweyr vows. “You honor us with you presence in our Clan Hold.”

Elsewhere, Lia, Talen and Dapple came across a pack of cooshee's. The huge elfin dogs happily greet Lia and Talen and consume any treats offered them. Most of the cooshee's than run off towards the center of town. There many of the settlers are present and they stop what they are doing upon the arrival of the elfin dogs. They go forth to greet the cooshee's.

“And cooshee's too?” Gweyr calls out in joy. “What a wonderful welcome home present!” The elfin dogs are very nearly eye level to the petite fire mage. “I could probably use one of these as a mount! Provided, it was willing of course.”

Lia continues her search with Talen following. This area of town, just off of the central area reminds Lia of the market area back in Ainsun. There are empty tables that would normally hold food, clothing and other goods. Nothing suspicious is noted. Lia does note that one of the new cooshee's is following her around!

In the treetop living areas of Pinit, Kylie has come across a normal looking cat that speaks Elvish!
Kylie wrote:Surprised, Kylie jerks to a stop. "You can speak--" she mutters in Elvish, amazed. Gathering her wits, she responds in a more dignified manner.
“Yes, I can,” the cat easily answers, flicking its tail.
Kylie wrote:"Excuse me, I've never met a talking cat before. I am Kylie Lanthorn, and we have come to help some members of Clan Long Runner restore and resettle this town. We also intend to clear out and restore the Royal Palace." Kylie points at the vine-covered palace on the island in the river.

"Who might you be?"
“Mocha,” the cat answers. “Elves are coming here? Will you be nice to us? Scratch us and give us treats?”

Now what?

“We centaurs need a great deal of food to survive,” Lakandras answers. “Too many of us in the same area would quickly deplete food sources.”
“I understand completely, How many centaurs are in your tribe?” The elf Ranger asks curiously. Laucian will introduce himself to the other centaurs when the time permits.
“We had no idea,” Lakandras will finally say. “It has been weeks since we've seen signs of the black horde, but that is not uncommon. If they are gone and the elves are back, than this is wonderful news for us all.”
“News that should spread between all the tribes and clans of the Slyvain realm.”
“We do not know the names of the places, but we centaurs have passed through them,” Lakandras explains. “The closest is back down the road and across the river. We camped there last night on way to discover the reason for the day long rainbow. A pack of elfin dogs were seen, but they kept their distance from us.”
“Names are sometime overrated, especially when ones beauty surpasses the name. I believe that to be Leromyr. Elfin dogs? I have had some experience in recent days with them. Two of their number have treated me as pack.”
“The other large town is along the coast on small islands in the river as it merges with the ocean,” Lakandras continues. “We do not go there very much, as it is far away. I have heard tales of humans with sailing ships being there before. Not all the time, as the black hordes will attack them, but at times.”
“Sailing ships? If the Black Horde turned them away it could be pirates or raiders.” Laucian repeats of humans. The question is are these human merchants or pirates. Either way this is information that the speaker and Queen will need to know upon their return.
Laucian turns and smiles at the approach of Valena, and Clan leaders Ocing and Stobon. Laucian turns his head and sees many a centaur look on in awe at the unicorn mount. He looks to Aura and tells her to be at ease.
“ Lakandras, May I introduce you to Valena Feador, Clan Master Ocing and Stobon. Last but not least Klovar of Ehlonna, the new Shrine caretaker. This is The leader of tribe Astades, Lakandras and members of his tribe.”
“ They wish to continue on in the old ways and honor old alliances, as we do. The have agreed to help us.”
Seeing as the centaurs are helping us, he can’t help but ask. “Are there any concerns that you have in your travels?” Afterward he motions for the column to move forward.
Til Ehlonna's will be done

Onas nods as he listens to Elder Treelife talk about the fairie cats. It seems that they are remarkable in many ways. "That's fascinating, Elder. Thank you."

The feline takes the proffered treat and departs. Onas can only hope that he'll have the opportunity to meet a cath chee again some day.

The day wears on and they continue traveling southward. Somewhere around midday perhaps, they reach the place where the road to Mealiel splits off from the main road south. Clan Grunalf will continue south as far as the geyser fields, then east toward their clan-home. Red Arrow will accompany Mealidil to Mealiel, then continue on alone to Walltree. According to the map in the Golden Griffon headquarters, this should be the shortest route other than cutting straight through the forest.
Elder Treelife wrote:“Farewell for now,” Elder Treelife calls out. “Safe journey to your homes.”
"Safe travels to you and your people as well, Elder. And thank you."

Onas will watch as the Grunalf settlers get moving again, then turns to those remaining. "Let us proceed, my friends." He hopes to reach Mealiel well before nightfall so they can verify that it is safe before settling in for the night.

It seems Talen's imagination may be running away with him. "With Moorkroft gone, I'm not sure how it could come back. And if by chance it has returned somehow, just remember that it is indeed an illusion."

Allurien wrote:“I think I would rather not find out,” Allurien answers. “Sinking your own ship doesn't make a lot of sense.”
Kylie smiles at her mother. "Don't worry, Mom, I wasn't planning on trying it out. Just idle curiosity." Well, she might be tempted to try it someday, but only in a very careful sort of way.

Mocha wrote:“Mocha,” the cat answers. “Elves are coming here? Will you be nice to us? Scratch us and give us treats?”
The experience of talking to a cat is a new one for Kylie, but she has had many new experiences over the last few months and is starting to get used to them. Sort of, anyway.

"I'm very pleased to meet you, Mocha. That's a pretty name. Yes, elves are coming to live here again." Kylie digs into her girdle and pulls out a piece of dried meat. "Here, would you like this treat?" she asks, extending it toward the elfin cat. "I'm sure they will be very nice to you. Would you like to meet them?"

Lilia:

While exploring Pinit, the Long Runner Clan Hold, a treant has been found in the center of town.
“Long ago,” the tree slowly speaks. “When I was much younger, yes, there were elves here. They were friendly to me.”
Gweyr wrote:“As we shall be, oh great one,” Gweyr vows. “You honor us with you presence in our Clan Hold.”
Lilia smiles herself in response to Gweyr, Andlin and Allurien have to come into contact with a treant. They seem to have an almost childlike joy to them. Lilia can empathize.

“It seems that Clan Long Runner is blessed to have a ancient of the forest among them.” Lilia states.

Not long after that, a pack of cooshee's appear. The elves stop what they are doing to greet the elfin dogs.
Gweyr wrote:“And cooshee's too?” Gweyr calls out in joy. “What a wonderful welcome home present!” The elfin dogs are very nearly eye level to the petite fire mage. “I could probably use one of these as a mount! Provided, it was willing of course.”
Lilia chuckles a bit as Gweyr introduces herself to a cooshee. The dogs are very nearly as tall as she is!

“Between the cooshee and the forest ancient, I think Clan Long Runner will be very safe in their home,” Lilia notes.

Unless something else comes up in the next ten minutes or so, Lilia is content to believe Pinit is safe of danger. She'll make her way up to the rope bridge that crosses the river to the elfin palace.

“Things seem to be safe here, so let us move on to our primary mission,” Lilia calls out. “Come Lady, we are off to explore our new home. The Elfin Palace awaits!”
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

Valena:

Valena translates Aura's message from Laucian to everyone around her. It asks that we go forth to meet the centaurs.
Klovar wrote:“It is good that these centaurs are friendly,” Klovar notes. “They have always lived peacefully with the elves.”
“So I have heard,” Valena comments. “However I have had little contact with centaurs, so they are mostly a mystery to me.”
Ocing wrote:“Indeed.” Clan Master Ocing adds. “They were welcomed trade partners back in the Elfholds. I imagine that they will be so again here in the Sylvan Realm.”
“That's good to know,” Valena notes. “What kind of trade did you have with the centaurs of the Elfholds?”

Valena can see the awe in the centaurs eyes as they see us approaching with River Blossom. Its good to know that most others are in awe of this majestic creature. Laucian handles the introductions.
Laucian wrote:“Lakandras, May I introduce you to Valena Feador, Clan Master Ocing and Stobon. Last but not least Klovar of Ehlonna, the new Shrine caretaker. This is the leader of tribe Astades, Lakandras and members of his tribe.”
Valena does not understand the native tongue of the centaurs, but can guess what Laucian is saying to them. When he gestures towards me, Valena will nod politely.

“Well met, Lakandras,” Valena calls out when Laucian introduces the centaur. She cannot help but notice that he wears the holy symbol of Ehlonna!
Laucian wrote:“They wish to continue on in the old ways and honor old alliances, as we do. The have agreed to help us.”
“That is wonderful news,” Valena will say. “We were told before that the centaurs were our allies. Are these these centaurs members of the same tribe as those we encountered before?”

It seems that we will have a parting of the ways. The Followers of Ehlonna will continue on to our shrine so that Klovar can take his proper place. Meanwhile the centaurs will lead the settlers to the nearest clan hold.

“Seems like a suitable arrangement to me,” Valena will say. “I will check in on these two clans once my business with the Silver Maidens has been completed. I never knew centaurs could be Priests of Ehlonna, but then again I have had limited contact with them in the Elfholds.”

Valena will follow the others to Ehlonna's Shrine.

Lia wrote:Lia laughs at her brother’s jest, “ Reputation? What reputation?” she jabs back playfully.

Lia wrote:“In truth, I don’t know if it was indeed an elf,” she says looking at her brother. “Things that were said and elf would know.. he did not.”

“That would make sense,” Talen answers. “Elves and cooshee's seem to go together. They might have even been protecting this town while the elves were away.”
Lia wrote:“Looks like this could have been a market at some point.” She say as she takes in all the table tops.
“Yeah, it reminds me of back in Ainsun when the Elder was giving us the tour,” Talen recalls. “This is probably something similar.”
Lia wrote:Soon enough she realizes one of the cooshee has taken a liking to her. “Seems like you've made a friend!” Talen says with a laugh. “Apparently cooshee's are accepting of the drow.”

After that, Talen will follow the cooshee's back towards the center of town. The elves warmly greet the elfin dogs as Talen looks on. Eventually, Lilia speaks up.
Lilia wrote:“Things seem to be safe here, so let us move on to our primary mission,” Lilia calls out. “Come Lady, we are off to explore our new home. The Elfin Palace awaits!”
“Coming,” Talen calls out as he follows the Elfin Queen. He's not excited to be taking the rope bridge to the Elfin Palace. It's just not made for someone of his size!

Post Continued:

The settlers continue to travel to their ancient Clan Holds.

The Road to Mealiel:
Onas wrote:Onas nods as he listens to Elder Treelife talk about the faerie cats. It seems that they are remarkable in many ways. "That's fascinating, Elder. Thank you."
Elder Treelife nods in appreciation. “It does make me wonder what other marvels await us in this ancient forest. It will be exciting to find out!”

A few hours later, a fork in the road is reached. Clan Grunalf will continue south towards the geyser fields. Their Clan Hold, Einsun, is perhaps the furthest from the Mother Tree with the trip in foot expected to take 3 days. The plan is that they will spend the evening near the geyser field and the griffons stable in that area.

The fork going west leads to Mealiel, the Sylvan Realm Clan Hold for the Mealidils. Accompanying Clan Mealidil is the Red Arrow Clan as their own Clan Hold, Walltree, lies about another days travel past Mealiel. Goodbyes are said and the Clan Grunalf, around 150 elves, sets off on their own separate journey.

A few more hours pass as the procession travels down the road to Mealiel. Night begins to fall, as it is the time of the year when the days are short. Best guess puts Mealiel only a short distance away now. Many are weary from the long days walk and welcome an end to their trek.

A loud bark suddenly an unexpectedly fills the air! The procession comes to a stop as the elves look around in surprise.

“That was the bark of a cooshee!” Red Arrow Clan Elder Lunawind calls out. Elder Lunawind moves closer to the front of the procession. She speaks to those in the lead. “Cooshee's only bark like that when danger is present! Be on guard, there is trouble ahead!”

The Road West:

Those taking the road west from the Mother Tree have encountered a group of centaurs. The centaurs had seen the Rainbow Bridge from the day before and were coming to investigate as they had no idea what was going on. Laucian has gone forth to greet the centaurs as he can speak their native tongue.
Laucian wrote:“I understand completely, How many centaurs are in your tribe?” The elf Ranger asks curiously. Laucian will introduce himself to the other centaurs when the time permits.
“Several hundred”, Lakandras says noncommittally.

The other centaurs are polite to Laucian and a few can even speak elvish!
Laucian wrote:“News that should spread between all the tribes and clans of the Sylvan realm.”
“It will, in time,” Lakandras says.
Laucian wrote:“Names are sometimes overrated, especially when ones beauty surpasses the name. I believe that to be Leromyr. Elfin dogs? I have had some experience in recent days with them. Two of their number have treated me as pack.”
“They are powerful, loyal creatures to the elves,” Lakandras notes in regards to the elfin dogs. “They would make fierce hunting companions, but alas they are indifferent to us centaurs.”
Laucian wrote:“Sailing ships? If the Black Horde turned them away it could be pirates or raiders.” Laucian repeats of humans.
“We simply avoided them,” Lakandras states. “We cannot trust humans.”

Back with the main group of elves, Aura delivered a message to come and join Laucian and the centaurs.
Valena wrote:“That's good to know,” Valena notes. “What kind of trade did you have with the centaurs of the Elfholds?”
“Food and wine mostly,” Clan Master Ocing answers. “Given their size, centaurs consume far more food than we elves do. But, much like humans, they favor a wide variety of food sources. Its this variety that allows them to thrive and not deplete an area of its food supply. And like some humans, they do like their wine a bit too much. A drunk centaur is one to avoid!”

The leaders of the elves and the centaurs meet to discuss matters. A few of the centaurs can speak the elfin tongue well enough to be understood, while a few of the elves are fluent in the centaur language. The two groups can communicate with each other well enough.

The followers of Ehlonna are surprised to learn that Lakandras is also a ranger in the service of the Lady of the Forests. He agrees to accompany them to Ehlonna's Shrine. The rest of the elves and centaurs will continue on to Leromyr. Introductions are made and the combined groups set off. The Silver Maiden Annelwin, also a ranger in the service of Ehlonna, can speak the centaur tongue as can the druid Klovar.

The settlers and centaurs travel not much further west before the side trail that leads to the Ehlonna shrine is reached. Goodbyes are said as the follower of Ehlonna depart from the procession of elves.

“The shrine is about a mile away along this trail,” Lakandras will report. “I've been this way many times before.”

Klovar will question the centaur about the shrine as the followers travel on. Special sigils are noted on a few trees as you walk along. Follower of Ehlonna know these to be signs that a holy place to the Lady of the Forests is near. The thickness of the brush increases as the group moves along. Finally the trail leads into a lovely glade.

In the center of the glade is an altar dedicated to Ehlonna. A small brook flows through the glade and several fruit bearing trees surround the glade. Several animals are present and they pay little attention to the new arrivals. There is a family of raccoon's and several deer. Numerous small birds fly overhead. A few buildings are noted as well.

Near the center of the clearing the group sees a majestic unicorn. He’s a large white stallion with a long ivory horn emerging from his forehead. Males are easy to distinguish by the white beard under their chin. Accompanying the unicorn are two smaller ones. One is an adult female and the other a female filly. This group of unicorns were here the last time Laucian and Valena visited the shrine. The other followers, even Lakandras, are in awe of the unicorn family.

“Welcome Children of the Forest,” the male unicorn states. “Have you come to restore your shrine?”

The Elfin Palace:

The Sunflower has brought Clan Long Runner back to their ancestral Clan Hold, the town of Pinit. The town is quickly searched to see fi there are any dangers around. Instead, a treant was found to be planted in the center of town. A pack of cooshee's appeared and were happily greeted by the elves. Higher up in the trees, Kylie has met a talking cat! The cat introduces itself as Mocha.
Kylie wrote:"I'm very pleased to meet you, Mocha.
“Yes, I would,” Mocha happily purrs when Kylie produces the piece of jerky. The cat takes the treat in its mouth and will nibble on it for a moment. “Good.”

As this is going on, the other cats start to come back from where they scampered off to. They mew questioningly to Mocha, who replies back in kind. Some they are close enough to take a sample of the jerky. The all purr contentedly in response, and one tabby will rub itself against Kylie's leg.

“We go and meet elves,” Mocha announces as the clowder of cats start to make their way down the tree to the ground below.

In short order, the cats are among the elves and the elfin dogs. The elves greet the cats warmly. Many wonder if they are elfin cats, and when Mocha does speak, that theory is confirmed. Some elfin cats can talk!

Seeing the area around Pinit seems safe, Lilia decides to move on to the Elfin Palace. She climbs up the tree to where the rope bridge spans the Satheas River to one of the two griffon landing areas on this side of the Elfin Palace. Lady happily follows behind Lilia and Andlin.

The griffon landing area is reached. This is the same landing pad that was used when the elves first came here weeks ago. The armored guardians lie on the ground, their elfin plate armor punctured by weapons and cooshee bites. The landing area is huge compared to the other griffon stables and much more open. Most of the outer edge is ringed with stables for the griffons. Basically a roof to keep their nests dry during the nightly rains.

Stairs lead down to the lower levels of this griffon landing area. Down below are common areas and quarters for griffon riders. It's not hard to imagine that back when the elves were here, patrols of griffon riders covered the skies of the Sylvan Realm. This section was a griffon stable and rider quarters area.

As the elves discovered on their first visit, there is no physical way to reach the other areas of the Elfin Palace. The thick thorny growth prevents one from move past it. Instead the ancient elves used the trees themselves as portals to other areas. Several pendants were found in the griffon riders quarters. Using them, the elves passed through the tree portal to the next area. This new area seemed to be an area for guests to stay during their visits to the Elfin Palace.

As Lilia approaches the tree that held the portals before, something unusual happens. Last time you were here, the wooden pendants that you found caused one portal to appear. This time there are three portals!

Onas Brightsword:
Elder Treelife nods in appreciation. “It does make me wonder what other marvels await us in this ancient forest. It will be exciting to find out!”
"Indeed it will," Onas replies, smiling at the prospect of meeting more wondrous creatures.

As the clans separate, Onas speaks briefly with the squad of Forest Riders and it's sub-commander, Sergeant Silversword, that will be continuing on with Clan Grunalf. He goes over a few last-minute details and answers any questions that the squad may have before they are on their way. In addition to their other duties, he asks that they assist the Golden Griffons in checking on the griffon stables by the geyser field to make sure that it does not house any 'unwanted guests'.

Afternoon begins to give way to evening as they draw closer to Mealiel. Suddenly, a loud, sharp bark resounds through the forest!
Lunawind wrote:“That was the bark of a cooshee!” Red Arrow Clan Elder Lunawind calls out. Elder Lunawind moves closer to the front of the procession. She speaks to those in the lead. “Cooshee's only bark like that when danger is present! Be on guard, there is trouble ahead!”
Onas gives a quick salute to Clan Elder Lunawind. "Thank you, Elder Lunawind! For everyone's safety, I recommend that you allow our Forest Riders to investigate. We should be best prepared to deal with whatever danger presents itself."

If there is no disagreement, Onas will assign one triplet to guard each side of the caravan and organize defenses with those able to fight. Sergeant Starglow and the other two triplets with be part of the investigation party. "Fayrianna, Arlen, would you care to join us? I'm sorry, Argus, but now that you are our representative on the Clan Council, it would be best if you stay here with the caravan."

Once the investigation party is organized, Onas will lead them forward in the general direction of the bark that was heard nearby. They are organized in two columns, with himself and Fayrianna at the head.

____________________________________________________________________________________
I believe that should make a party of ten, including the two triplets and four leaders - assuming that Fayrianna and Arlen join, and no other leaders insist on joining.

Lilia:

Just as Lilia is getting ready to climb up to the rope bridge that connects to the Elfin Palace, a small group of cats appear among us. They look like normal cats, but here in among the elves they might be much more.
In short order, the cats are among the elves and the elfin dogs. The elves greet the cats warmly. Many wonder if they are elfin cats, and when Mocha does speak, that theory is confirmed. Some elfin cats can talk!
“Oh, I always wanted an elfin cat!” Lilia says as she scratches any of the cats that get close to her. At least one of them can speak elvish. “It is said that an elfin cat is a normal cat that became magical creatures, and smarter than normal, due to their time among the elves.”

Lilia will pry herself away from the cats and get back to the task at hand. She makes her way across the rope bridge to the griffon landing area. The area is much like Lilia recalls it being. The remains of the armored guardians are still here, basically empty suits of elfin plate.

Lilia makes her way to the tree that held the portals that allowed us to move deeper into the complex before. Lilia wears the Redwood Pendent that was in the box given to her by King Miritar. On our previous visit, one portal appeared to us at a time. However, with her higher grade pendent three appear!

Lilia will gesture for Andlin to come closer. “My friends, I am sure that you have been wondering what is in this box that Andlin guards. It was returned to the Sylvan Realm by King Miritar. The box held a variety of pendents that are used to open the portals to the other areas of the Elfin Palace.”

“This is the Redwood Pendent,” Lilia continues, indicating the pendent she is wearing. “This is the highest level of pendent and will allow me access to the entire palace.”

Lilia opens the box and fishes through it for a moment. After locating the proper pendent she turns to Kylie's Mother. “Speaker Allurien, I give you the Maple Pendent. This one is one tier below mine and will give you access to your quarters and the clan meeting areas. Presumable to every area except my private quarters.”

If there are two Maple Pendents in the box, Lilia will give Kylie one as well. “As the Speaker's daughter, a Maple Pendent is also yours to have.”

Turning back to the three portals before them, Lilia will say, “I have no idea where these portals go. Therefore we will need to explore and try to map out the areas of the palace. I think we should stick together for now. Who knows what other traps Moorkroft left behind?”

Unless someone says something Lilia will randomly pick the portal on the right to pass through.
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

Kylie Lanthorn the Half-Elven:
Talen wrote:“Moorkroft was an ancient mage of great power,” Talen notes. “I wouldn't dismiss anything when it comes to him.”
Kylie nods, her brow furrowed as she considers the possibilities. "You make a good point, Talen. We should be careful and not take anything for granted. And keep in mind his penchant for illusions..."

===
Mocha wrote:“Yes, I would,” Mocha happily purrs when Kylie produces the piece of jerky. The cat takes the treat in its mouth and will nibble on it for a moment. “Good.”
"I'm glad you like it, Mocha," Kylie replies. While Mocha enjoys the treat, the other cats return. Soon, they are trying out the treat, leading Kylie to fish several more from her Girdle. Noting that one of the cats is rubbing itself against her leg, Kylie reaches down and offers her hand for a sniff or lick. If allowed, she will scratch behind the cat's ear a bit. "Does this one have a name, Mocha? And can any of your other companions here talk?"
Mocha wrote:“We go and meet elves,” Mocha announces as the clowder of cats start to make their way down the tree to the ground below.
Turning, Kylie leads them down to the ground, then toward the center of town. Reaching the open area in the center of town where her friends and others appear to have gathered, Kylie makes an announcement. "Excuse me. I met these cats up in one of the trees back that way." She gestures back in the direction she came from, then at Mocha. "This one can talk, which was quite a surprise! Her name is Mocha. She said that they wanted to meet you all, so I lead them here." She pauses to see if Mocha - or any of the others - has anything to say.
Lilia wrote:“Oh, I always wanted an elfin cat!” Lilia says as she scratches any of the cats that get close to her. At least one of them can speak elvish. “It is said that an elfin cat is a normal cat that became magical creatures, and smarter than normal, due to their time among the elves.”
It seems that Lilia is familiar with these talking cats! "That's quite a story, Lilia. So they're called 'elfin cats'? I suppose that makes sense. Do they live back in the Elfholds as well?"
Lia wrote:Bending down to one knee, Lia begins to pet the cooshee. “ Hello, Want another snack?” she asks as the cooshee wags her tail. Lia will take out another piece of dried meat and give it to the cooshee. “ There is a good dog.” As she begins to pet it.
After returning with the elfin cats, Kylie notices a cooshee making friends with Lia. "I see a cooshee has declared you a friend, Lia. Congratulations! They truly are wonderful companions."

Lilia wrote:“Things seem to be safe here, so let us move on to our primary mission,” Lilia calls out. “Come Lady, we are off to explore our new home. The Elfin Palace awaits!”
Lilia summons them, as it is time to proceed with the recovery of the Elfin Palace. "Come on, Dapple, it seems we have work to do," Kylie says, patting the cooshee's flank. If the elfin cat still seems attached to her, she will invite it to come along as well.

===

It takes a little while to cross the rope bridge to the griffon stable. Talen seems a bit leary of the bridge, but makes it across okay. They descend the stairs to the griffon riders' quarters, then approach the tree where they had previously found the portal to the interior. Amazingly, three portals appear this time!
Lilia wrote:Lilia will gesture for Andlin to come closer. “My friends, I am sure that you have been wondering what is in this box that Andlin guards. It was returned to the Sylvan Realm by King Miritar. The box held a variety of pendents that are used to open the portals to the other areas of the Elfin Palace.”

If there are two Maple Pendents in the box, Lilia will give Kylie one as well. “As the Speaker's daughter, a Maple Pendent is also yours to have.”
Lilia shows them all that the box Andlin has been carrying is filled with pendants like the ones they had found on their previous visit. Apparently, this is a gift from King Miritar, and there are a variety of different pendants allowing access to different areas. Lilia gives one to Allurien that she calls a 'Maple Pendant', explaining that it was designed for the Speaker and allows access to the Speaker's residence in the Palace. Lilia then extends one to Kylie as well. "Wow. Thank you, Lilia. This is amazing!"

Accepting the pendant, Kylie hangs it around her neck, stroking the smooth, soft wood for a moment as she does so. Glancing over at her mother, Kylie smiles happily. "I guess this really is our new home..."
Lilia wrote:Turning back to the three portals before them, Lilia will say, “I have no idea where these portals go. Therefore we will need to explore and try to map out the areas of the palace. I think we should stick together for now. Who knows what other traps Moorkroft left behind?”
Kylie just shrugs as she certainly knows no more than Lilia about this place. "Seems like a good idea." When Lilia steps through, Kylie will follow, allowing her mother to go ahead of her if she seems to prefer that. Realizing that there may well be danger, Kylie floats up off the ground a bit and readies her bow as soon as she emerges on the other side.

“Than maybe you should start working on one,” Talen suggests.
Lia looks at her brother and then a slow smile begins to etch across her face, “I think we already have, Talen.”
“If he wasn't an elf, than what was he?” Talen asks.
“A being under a spell? A twin? A higher power? Who is to say.” She says back.
“That's good,” Talen says. “I'll have to pay him a visit when I can.”
“I am sure he would welcome that.”
“Seems like you've a friend!” Talen says with a laugh. “Apparently cooshee's are accepting of the drow.”
“Yea, though I dunno how many more treats I have.” She laughs back as he cowls comes up revealing a smile. “They are rather cute.” She says as she plays with the cooshee’s ears.
Once they are done at the market they head back to town where many cooshees and cats mingle with the elves of Clan Long Runner. “Seems we are not the one’s to find what lives here.” Lia will say hi to the Elfin cats. And give a morsel of food out here and there to them.
After returning with the elfin cats, Kylie notices a cooshee making friends with Lia. "I see a cooshee has declared you a friend, Lia. Congratulations! They truly are wonderful companions."
“I always been a cat person.”she says to Kylie, “Though they are growing on me.”she looks down at he cooshee and pets it’s flank.
Lia follows the others to the Griffon landing and then on to the entrance area where Lilia explains the box and proceeds to give out pendants to the Speaker then to Kylie.
Drawing her sword, Lia will follow Lilia into the Palace.
The last thing you shall hear is the bladesong of my sword.

“Several hundred”, Lakandras says noncommittally.
Laucian looks indifferent at Lakandras but he is thinking just how many they are. “I can see why you do not gather as often. That is a vast number to care for and feed.”
Laucian will greet each in turn using both centaur and elfish as permits.
“They are powerful, loyal creatures to the elves,” Lakandras notes in regards to the elfin dogs. “They would make fierce hunting companions, but alas they are indifferent to us centaurs.”
“They are indeed. I only recently encountered them and had them fight by our side. They are quite fearsome. Tell me our their any creatures that centaurs keep as hunting companions?”he asks curiously.
“We simply avoided them,” Lakandras states. “We cannot trust humans.”
“There was a time I might agree with you, my friend. There are a few humans that seek common goals as Elves and centaurs. Sherwood- Elf friend is one, a human ranger mage who help us on our journey and Validar of Pyris would be another.”
The settlers and centaurs travel not much further west before the side trail that leads to the Ehlonna shrine is reached. Goodbyes are said as the follower of Ehlonna depart from the procession of elves.
Laucian will say goodbye to both Clan Leaders and wish them well in their travels.
“Lead on.” He says from the back of Aura. “I only been to the shrine twice. The Lord of the Forest is quite magnificent to behold.” He says of the Unicorn protector.
Laucian will incline his head to the male unicorn. “It is good to see you again, Forest Lord. Indeed, May I introduce Klovar of Ehlonna. He is to be the shrine caretaker.”
“That is wonderful news,” Valena will say. “We were told before that the centaurs were our allies. Are these centaurs members of the same tribe as those we encountered before?”
“No,they are of a different tribe.” He says easily to his companion. “Though friendly to Caperling’s tribe.”
“Seems like a suitable arrangement to me,” Valena will say. “I will check in on these two clans once my business with the Silver Maidens has been completed. I never knew centaurs could be Priests of Ehlonna, but then again I have had limited contact with them in the Elfholds.”
“Nor did I. It would seem that Ehlonna entrusts those from all walks of life.”
Laucian will dismount Aura and tell her to rest. Afterward Laucian will await Klovar’s and the Forest Lord’s lead.

“I will try to remember that,” Valena says with a laugh.
Laucian wrote:“No, they are of a different tribe.” He says easily to his companion. “Though friendly to Caperling’s tribe.”
“I see,” Valena answers. “I suppose that makes sense. From what Clan Master Ocing told me centaurs eat more food than we elves do, so they need more of it. I imagine it is like try to feed a man and a horse at the same time.”

The signs along the trail that only rangers can understand tell us that the shrine is near. Sure enough, we come to a familiar clearly with familiar occupants.
Valena is not quite as in awe of the trio of unicorns as she was on her first visit. Being around River Blossom has gotten her more comfortable around them. While Laucian is introducing Klovar to the unicorn, Valena will speak to the other faithful.

“This is Ehlonna's Shrine here in the Sylvan Realm. In those buildings over there is some gear left behind for us to make use of.” Valena points off in the proper direction. “There were suits of Chain Mail of Ehlonna to be had. These are enchanted elfin chain mail that gives us additional abilities. Priests should pick up a Holy Ring of Ehlonna. The ring lets you pray for more spells and makes the special spells of the Lady of the Forests available to you without having to pray for them.”

Stepping up to Laucian, Klovar, and the male unicorn, Valena will say, “Are we ready bring life back to this shrine?”

The griffon landing area is the part of the elfin palace that we arrive at. We were here before. Back then, only one portal appeared in the tree. Just time there are three of them. Lilia hands out pendents from the box that Andlin was carrying.

“I guess that is a more powerful pendent,” Talen says. He'll draw his bastard sword and follow the others through the portal.

Talen's comment causes Kylie to look back and down from where she's gliding along. "I can see where that could be inconvenient." Considering the trouble he's having, she's glad she can just fly.

Mealiel:

On the road to Mealiel, the Sylvan Realm Clan Hold for Clan Mealidil, the sound of a barking cooshee has reached the settlers procession. Elder Lunawind of Clan Red Arrow alerts everyone that the elfin dogs only bark like that when danger is present.
Onas wrote:Onas gives a quick salute to Clan Elder Lunawind. "Thank you, Elder Lunawind! For everyone's safety, I recommend that you allow our Forest Riders to investigate. We should be best prepared to deal with whatever danger presents itself."
The Clan Elder nods in return. She then returns to her guard position among the settlers.
Onas wrote:If there is no disagreement, Onas will assign one triplet to guard each side of the caravan and organize defenses with those able to fight. Sergeant Starglow and the other two triplets with be part of the investigation party. "Fayrianna, Arlen, would you care to join us? I'm sorry, Argus, but now that you are our representative on the Clan Council, it would be best if you stay here with the caravan."
“I had no plans on being left behind,” Fayrianna calls out as she rides past on her unicorn. “Let us aid the elfin dogs!”

Arlen Brightsword nods as he directs his griffon into the air and further ahead. Two others of the Golden Griffon members take to the air and follow Arlen towards the elfin town as well.

“Go,” Argus calls out. “But we will continue to advance in case you need back up.”

The ride towards Mealiel is a quick one, taking just a few minutes. There are eight on horseback, one riding a unicorn and three more on griffons. As this assemblage rides and flies into town, the source of the danger is quickly discovered! There is a pack of cooshee's present and they are trying to drive off a group of manticores! There are four of the flying monsters in all.

“I'd say we found the source of the problem, Arlen calls out. “Shall we give our friends a hand?”

GM Notes:

Arlen rode a griffon, not a horse. There are also the two Golden Griffon Commanders as well, Niles and Valis, who flew into town. The manticores are spread out and each are being harassed by several cooshee's. Some of the elfin dogs look wounded. The manticores are hovering a little bit above the ground and the cooshee's are trying to jump up and bit them

The Road West:
Laucian wrote:“They are indeed. I only recently encountered them and had them fight by our side. They are quite fearsome. Tell me are there any creatures that centaurs keep as hunting companions?” he asks curiously.
“Some keeping hunting dogs, but that is not very common,” Lakandras answers.
Laucian wrote:“There was a time I might agree with you, my friend. There are a few humans that seek common goals as Elves and centaurs. Sherwood- Elf friend is one, a human ranger mage who help us on our journey and Validar of Pyris would be another.”
“We centaurs have simply found it better to simply distrust all humans,” Lakandras states. “Our experience with them has lead to this policy. They do not understand the way of the forest like we and you do.”

Ehlonna's Shrine:

Once at Ehlonna's Shrine, Laucian introduces Klovar to the small family of unicorns there.
Laucian wrote:Laucian will incline his head to the male unicorn. “It is good to see you again, Forest Lord. Indeed, May I introduce Klovar of Ehlonna. He is to be the shrine caretaker.”
“Well met, Forest Lord,” Klovar humbly says with a bow. “I look forward to restoring the shrine so that we can perform the Ladies good works once more in the Sylvan Realm.

Elsewhere, Valena tells the others some of the secrets of the Shrine. About the armor and rings that only followers of Ehlonna can use. The new arrivals pick up these new items. After some time of getting used to the Shrine, the priestess suggest that the group should carry out the task you've come here to do.
Valena wrote:Stepping up to Laucian, Klovar, and the male unicorn, Valena will say, “Are we ready bring life back to this shrine?”
“Indeed I am,” Klovar announces. “I thank you all for coming here today. To restore this Shrine to its ancient glory all begins with this first step. Brothers and sisters, please join me around the altar. Those who can need to cast a Sanctify spell at this time.”

In response Klovar, Laucian, Valena, Jetter and Kaffa all start to cast the Sanctify spell. While the five Sanctify spells are cast separately, their magic is combined into one spell more potent than any individual here could cast! Upon completion of the ten minute spell casting, the altar starts to glow a forest green. Everyone present can feel the power of Ehlonna coming from the altar, even those who are just rangers.

“Amazing,” Lakandras says in awe.

“It is done,” Klovar announces, slightly drained from the effort. “Thank you all. The altar is now prepared. The next step is mine alone to complete. You may go about your duties as most of you are needed elsewhere, but please return when able.”

Elfin Palace:

The Long Runner Clan Hold of Pinit is not as deserted as initially thought. A treant lives in the center of town while a packs of cooshee's and elfin cats are also present. All the animals start to gather at the center of town to meet the settlers.
Kylie wrote:"I'm glad you like it, Mocha," Kylie replies.
“Just Mocha,” the elfin cat announces. “That is Sita. Only Mocha speak.”

Sita allows himself to be scratched and purrs contentedly in response.
Kylie wrote:Turning, Kylie leads them down to the ground, then toward the center of town.
“Hello people,” Mocha calls out as the cats come forth. “We share home?”

“Hello Mocha,” Gweyr answers as she approaches the talking tabby. “Of course we can share our home. You and your friends are most welcomed here.”

With that, the elves, cooshee's and cats start to mingle and get to know each other. Sita has wandered off from Kylie and the Chosen turn their attention towards the Elfin Palace. The Redwood Pendent that Lilia wears reveals there to be three tree portals where the Pine Pendent showed only one. Lilia tells everyone about the pendents.

“Thank you,” Allurien says as she accepts the Pendent. She regards it for a few moments before pinning it to her blouse. “So these pendents are a security measure? Granting access based on their importance?”
Lilia wrote:If there are two Maple Pendents in the box, Lilia will give Kylie one as well. “As the Speaker's daughter, a Maple Pendent is also yours to have.”
Kylie wrote:Lilia shows them all that the box Andlin has been carrying is filled with pendants like the ones they had found on their previous visit.

“Seems that way,” Allurien responds. “This is all becoming very real.”

Lilia randomly picks the right hand portal to pass through and the elves find themselves in a a new, but familiar area. As you come through the portal you find yourselves on a wooden walkway. It circles off the left and to the right. Another walkway leads towards the center of this area. Small buildings are constructed between the walkways. The center of this area is also circular and open. Stairs lead down to lower levels.

Kylie and Talen realize that this was the first area of the palace the group arrived in during the quest to restore the Mother Tree. It was in this area where they fought the illusionary dragon and than the Simulacrum of Moorkroft, a double made of ice and snow. No dangers seem present, so the group takes the time to explore the area.

This section of the Elfin Palace seems to be a general quarters area. Numerous small homes are present for one or more elves. The lower levels of this section have more homes as well. There does not appear to be a way to reach the ground in this area.

Going back up to the main walkway where you first appeared, a total of five tree portals will appear as you travel along the edge. The portal that you came through remains and it is at 2 o'clock with 12 being north. This portal leads back to the griffon stable you came from. The other portals are all separate from each other and would correspond to 3, 4, 6, and 8 o'clock.

Laucian
Laucian watches as the Klovar and the Unocorn male exchange pleasantries and begin speaking of sanctifying the alter. Looking away he sees Valena explain to the others what the outlining buildings and the treasure that they indeed hold.
“Indeed I am,” Klovar announces. “I thank you all for coming here today. To restore this Shrine to its ancient glory all begins with this first step. Brothers and sisters, please join me around the altar. Those who can need to cast a Sanctify spell at this time.”
“As am I.” As the other clerics come forward, The words to the Sanctify spell comes to his lips. As each word is spoken the spell begins to become stronger from one priest to the next. Upon the alter, Laucian begins to notice a subtle change but as the words are spoken by the adjoined clerics the alter begins to glow a faint green, upon completion of the glow of the alter is imbued with forest green glow. A smile comes to his face as he can feel the power of Ehlonna emanating from the alter.
“Positively amazing.” Laucian adds his voice to those in awe of what has been accomplished this day.
“It is done,” Klovar announces, slightly drained from the effort. “Thank you all. The altar is now prepared. The next step is mine alone to complete. You may go about your duties as most of you are needed elsewhere, but please return when able.”
“It was my pleasure and honor.”he says to the High Priest. “What is the next step in which you speak? Laucian asks curiously. “I will gladly do so. The shrine is left in your hands, my brother. I wish you good fortune in your care of the shrine.” He finishes saying to Klovar.
Laucian will approach Valena, “I wish you well in the coming days. May Ehlonna smile upon you.” He says as he leaves.
He will also say goodbye to Jetter and Kaffa, “If you ever need of my assistance . Send word.”
To Lakandras: “It was good to have me you, Lakandras. I wish you and your tribe good health and prosperity. I will see that our Griffons patrol your skies upon my return.”
When it is time to depart, Laucian will make ready to leave bowing before the Forest Lord, “It was good to see you and your kin again.” Once ready Laucian will mount up and be ready to fly to meet with his clan.
Til Ehlonna's will be done

Onas Brightsword:

Fayrianna and Arlen agree to join the hunt for whatever is upsetting the cooshees. Arlen and two members of the Golden Griffons take to the air.
Argus wrote:“Go,” Argus calls out. “But we will continue to advance in case you need back up.”
"Good idea, Councilor." Onas gives him a salute, then rides up alongside Fayrianna on the right.

"Sergeant, take the left flank." Onas then looks over his shoulder at his Forest Riders. "Form up behind the three of us and keep your eyes peeled."

"Git!" Onas calls out to Carad Orod, and the elven warhorse surges forward at a gallop. The group fall in, matching his pace. At this rate, they reach Mealiel in just a few minutes. The sight that greets them is surprising indeed: A group of manticores are fighting with a pack of cooshees, which appear to be taking the worst of it. Onas can see that several of the canines are bleeding profusely, though they have not given up the fight. Unfortunately, they are ground-bound and having trouble reaching the flying beasts.
Arlen wrote:“I'd say we found the source of the problem, Arlen calls out. “Shall we give our friends a hand?”
"Indeed, brother!" Onas calls back.

"Starglow, flank and contain! Fayrianna, you have the center! Arlen, try to drive them toward the ground! Ready lances... Charge!" Onas leads his pair of Forest Riders in a sweeping approach to the right, then drives in hard on that side. Aiming his lance as best he can at this speed, he attempts to spear one of the manticores.

___________________________________________________________________________
For some reason, I thought that the Golden Griffons would be going with Clan Grunalf and checking out the griffon stables on the edge of the geyser clearing. Totally forgot about Arlen also riding a griffon...

“It would appear so.” Lia adds to the conversation. Lia wonders if anyone has circumvented the portals somehow. If one was to misplace a pendent it could be dire if it fell into the wrong hands and they came to the Palace. A thought that she will mention to Lilia later on especially if the slavers are coming.

We make our way up to the griffon landing area of the Elfin Palace. Lilia tells everyone about the pendents she was given.

Lilia rummages through the box once and pulls out more pendents. “Fortunately, there are six of us, so we can do this. Each of us will have a different level of pendent. Thus we can determine was is needed to open up what portal. Some of these portals may go to highly sensitive areas.”

“Kylie, for the time being, give your pendent to your mother for safe keeping. I will give you the Oak Pendent. This one traditionally goes to the Clan Masters and their staff.”

“Lia, you get the Ash Pendent. This one was typically carried by the faculty of the mage school here in the palace. Talen, you get Elm Pendent. This was by the students of the mage school and by guards. That leaves the Pine Pendent for Andlin. As I mentioned before, this one is carried by guests and griffon riders.”

“Let's move away from the first portal, far enough so that it vanishes. Than we can each approach to determine how important the area it leads to is. We will need to do this for each portal. This will give us a clearer picture of the Elfin Palace areas. Shall we?”

“I don't remember this,” Lilia says about the area beyond the portal. “I was not myself at that time.”
“It does not hold the fondest of memories. There was a Green dragon made by Moorkroft. All I remember is blacking out in front of it.”
“Could be,'' Lilia agrees. “Perhaps even for those who work here in the palace.”

Lia accepts the Ash pendent and runs her fingers over it as she palms it. She then places it over her head. “This should be interesting.” as she looks down at the pendent. “So do you have to remove yours in order for ours to work?”She asks Lilia curiously.
“Perhaps we should put them on one at a time and see what is available to us. I would be curious to see if there is any portals that are not open for the highest pendent, granted you are the queen but what might you need within the mage facility?”

Kylie Lanthorn the Half-Elven:
Mocha wrote:“Just Mocha,” the elfin cat announces. “That is Sita. Only Mocha speak.”
"Thank you, Mocha." Kylie pauses a moment to consider the implications. "Then that would indicate that you are quite exceptional among your kind. I hope I get to talk with you more later."

Reaching down to pet the other elfin cat, Kylie addresses it in a soft voice. "Hello, Sita. I am pleased to meet such a nice kitty." Kylie is rewarded with soft purring from Sita.

Upon introducing the elfin cats to the Clan Long Runner representatives, there is quick acceptance of each other, confirming that it will be a shared home going forward. Lilia confirms Kylie's suspicion that talking elfin cats are rather rare, making the experience that much more special.

===
Allurien wrote:“Seems that way,” Allurien responds. “This is all becoming very real.”
Kylie nods. "Yeah, I know what you mean. It will be good to have a real home here." Despite having been in the Sylvan Realm for weeks now, some part of Kylie finally feels like she is really at the point of leaving her old life behind and starting a new one here.
Lilia wrote:“Yes, exactly,” Lilia states. “There are six level of pendents. Mine is the highest level, while the ones I gave Allurien and Kylie were the next highest. So level six and five pendents. The ones we found earlier were the Pine Pendents, or the level one pendent. They had the least amount of access. Those were given to guests and the griffon riders.”
This discussion of the pendants and their granted access brings a question to Kylie's mind. "Does your pendant give access to the Speaker's private quarters?" If they are truly hierarchical, then it should, though that seems like an odd choice to her thinking as it would imply that the Queen is more important than the Speaker. From what she had heard previously, her impression had been that the positions were functionally equal, with different areas of responsibility.

===

Moving through the right-hand portal, they find themselves in the same area where they had originally entered the first time. Memories of their experience with the illusionary dragon come unbidden to Kylie's mind, along with an echo of the very real fear she felt then.
Lilia wrote:“I don't remember this,” Lilia says about the area beyond the portal. “I was not myself at that time.”
Lilia's statement is surprising to Kylie. "So had Moorkroft already taken possession of you by time we found you here? I had thought that it had been later when you tried to lead the real black dragon away."

Lia asks Lilia about who might live here once they set up court in the palace. Kylie is more concerned with who or what might still be residing in the palace as a result of Moorkroft's occupation.
Lilia wrote:“That is a fine suggestion,” Lilia notes. “However I think we should perform an experiment before we leave this area. Right now these portals were activated by a level five or a level six pendent. But will they work on lower ones?”
Lia's suggestion brings up another thought for Kylie. "If I may, there were two other portals in the landing area where we arrived. Since that is our route back to Pinit, it might be good to make sure that those other portals don't lead to other enemies. It could be a serious problem if we get cut off and are unable to retreat to where our friends are."
Lilia wrote:Lilia rummages through the box once and pulls out more pendents.

Testing to see what pendants activate which portals make a lot of sense. Kylie removes her Maple Pendant and hands it to her mother, then accepts the Oak Pendant from Lilia. "Thank you, Lilia. I think this approach may also help us identify which level of pendant Moorkroft had access to, depending on which areas appear to reflect his influence." Lilia hands out one of each of the other types of pendants to Lia, Talen, and Andlin. The queen then lays out a plan to test each portal to see which pendants can access it and which cannot.

As that is going on, another concept explodes into Kylie's mind. "Oh gods!" she exclaims, then blushes at her outburst and the strange looks it engenders in the others. "Sorry, I just thought of something," she states a bit sheepishly. "We encountered an illusion of Moorkroft when we were here before. Later, we next encountered him while he was possessing Lilia. However, I don't believe we ever encountered his physical body. That seems to imply that it still exists... somewhere. I don't know that we can consider him entirely defeated and gone until we find his body. I suppose it could be here somewhere in the palace, but then again, it could be just about anywhere." The possibility that he might yet return in some form reminds Kylie of her earlier conversation with Talen in an eerie kind of way.

As I understand, that is where you are meeting up with your clan. So at least for this evening, we will be in the same place. But come tomorrow our paths will separate once more.”

After saying her goodbyes, Valena will mount up on River Blossom. The unicorn then 'blinks' away and they are gone from the shrine.

“I'm a giant among elves,” Talen mutters.

We pass through the portal and find ourselves in the area where the illusionary dragon was found and then a snow copy of Moorkroft.

“Well, this is an area to avoid,” Talen notes. “Too many bad memories here.”

More portals are found out of this area.

“Hold a moment,” Talen says. “Were there not only one other portal we found out of here before? Or did we take the first one we came to? These other ones might be new to us.”

Lilia decides use each of the different pendents to see which ones activate which portal. That notion seems to make sense as it will identify which portals go to important places.
Lilia wrote:“Lia, you get the Ash Pendent. This one was typically carried by the faculty of the mage school here in the palace. Talen, you get Elm Pendent. This was by the students of the mage school and by guards. That leaves the Pine Pendent for Andlin. As I mentioned before, this one is carried by guests and griffon riders.”
Talen accepts the pendent without comment.
Kylie wrote:As that is going on, another concept explodes into Kylie's mind.
“Well, I'm sure he is dead, so if we find something that smells awful that'll probably be him!” Talen teases ghoulishly as he laughs. “Or maybe he's a lich now!”

Kylie wrote:This discussion of the pendants and their granted access brings a question to Kylie's mind.
“Hmmm, that is a good question,” Lilia states. “What I was going off was the importance given to each pendent inside the lid of the chest. But, as you noted, there are flaws to this way of thinking. I mean the order indicates that students of the mage school would be able to access the quarters of guests. That doesn't make any sense. So perhaps the Redwood Pendent and the Maple Pendent are more on even level, overseeing the other four pendents?”
Kylie wrote:Lilia's statement is surprising to Kylie. "So had Moorkroft already taken possession of you by time we found you here? I had thought that it had been later when you tried to lead the real black dragon away."
“The last thing I remember was being on the griffon landing area,” Lilia states with a shrug. “Then when we were fighting Moorkroft.”
Kylie wrote:Lia's suggestion brings up another thought for Kylie. "If I may, there were two other portals in the landing area where we arrived. Since that is our route back to Pinit, it might be good to make sure that those other portals don't lead to other enemies. It could be a serious problem if we get cut off and are unable to retreat to where our friends are."
“Yes, that makes sense,” Lilia agrees. “Might as well start our mapping at the beginning anyway. However, lets us do my experiment here first, than we'll go back to where we started.”
Lia wrote:Lia accepts the Ash pendent and runs her fingers over it as she palms it.

“No,” Lilia says giving Lia a strange look. “As I indicated earlier, everyone will step back far enough so that the portal deactivates. Then everyone will approach it individually to see if it activates. This testing will determine just what portals open for what pendents and if my notion of an ultimate pendent was in error.”
Kylie wrote:Testing to see what pendants activate which portals make a lot of sense.
“My basic assumption is that he had access to the Pine Pendent, as that is the ones that we also found,” Lilia explains. “But beyond that, we shall see.”
Kylie wrote:As that is going on, another concept explodes into Kylie's mind. "Oh gods!" she exclaims, then blushes at her outburst and the strange looks it engenders in the others. I don't know that we can consider him entirely defeated and gone until we find his body. I suppose it could be here somewhere in the palace, but then again, it could be just about anywhere." “That's not very funny, Talen,” Lilia states while sending the half-elf a cold glance. “Moorkroft's spirit was destroyed in the mental plane. Even if his body did survive without his spirit, it has been ten days since then. I doubt it the body could have lasted that long.”
