Sylvan Realm #19 (#63)

December 2nd, CR 571 or Deepnight 24th, 20,519 AP

Night has fallen as the days are short this time of year. Argent cried out in alarm when Myev vanished from right in front of her. Kylie ran to investigate followed by Lia and Allurien. Argent realizes that that Allurien is Kylie's mother.
Argent wrote:It takes Argent a moment to comprehend what Kylie and the elf are saying to each other. “This is your mother?” Argent asks of Kylie.
Kylie wrote:Kylie opens her mouth to respond, but then shuts it as embarrassment flushes her cheeks. "I'm sorry, Argent; I thought you had already met. Yes, this is my mother, Allurien Feador. Mom," she says, looking to her mother, "this is Argent, who was in training with Jallarzi at the same time as I was."
“I surmised as much,” Allurien wryly notes. “You are the only human here.”
Argent wrote:Assuming that she is correct, Argent turns to the elf and says, “Pleased to meet you, ma'am. Kylie told me so much about you.”
“A pleasure to meet you as well, Argent,” Allurien intones with a small bow.
Argent wrote:Taking a closer look at Allurien, Argent can see some of the family resemblance. “Yes, we spent a great deal of time working in the kitchen while not training. I think we both had a lot of fun back in those days. I am very happy that she found you.”
“And I am pleased that she had a friend like you while I was away,” Allurien adds. “Eleven years passed for me in the blink of an eye. Kylie grew up while I was away, so we are still getting to know each other again.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie turns to her mother. "Mom, do you want to watch the captain's rooms while I keep an eye on these?"
Allurien nods in agreement. “I'll handle it.”

Guard duty does not last long as Lia calls out from the main deck that Lilia has returned and has revealed that Myev is safe. The Mother Tree summoned the scro and offered to change her into an elf. Myev agreed and was then cocooned with in branches and leaves. Argent hears only part of the conversation and fears that Myev was taken away against her will. Kylie, Lia and Lilia try to assure Argent that Myev is fine. Argent then decides to use her Crystal Ball to find her friend.

Talen arrives right after that and talk turns to the Mother Tree saying that he was given Elder Knowledge in the ruins to the north. Lia suggests that maybe Argent can help him as she was doing research into the Pillar Artifact.

Everyone follows Argent down to her quarters. She fishes through her bag of holding and pulls out her Crystal Ball that she found in the lair of the Zombie Master. Using her spare dress as a makeshift stand, Argent uses the Crystal Ball but it comes up blank while searching for Myev! After that, Argent shares her notes with Talen, but nothing he reads makes any real sense to the half-elf.

Everyone starts to settle in for the evening after that. Lilia returns to Golden Peak, while Allurien and Kylie return to the Clan Hold residence. Talen sleeps in the Captain's Cabin, while a concerned Argent is in hers. Laucian, Onas, and Valena camp out in the Heart of the Tree where Myev is being changed. The evening passes quietly and Kylie learns many new spells from her mothers spell books.

A new day dawns! Upon the rising of the sun the leaves of the Mother Tree turn a rainbow hue! The Rainbow Bridge will open once the sun is at its highest in the sky. It will remain open until sunset, so it will be open for a good 4-5 hours.

Sheeryl seeks out Lilia to reveal what her divinations have discovered. “The masters of the Sunflower will be coming,” Sheeryl reports. “However, they will not arrive for 8 more days.”

After that, Sheeryl will ride a griffon down to the Sunflower. Once there, she asks where the vile vidate liquid is at. After locating it, Sheeryl casts Destroy Water on it, vaporize the elf controlling water. The vidate is no more.

GM Notes:

We're starting to move on to a new day, so let's start to wrap up the things going on the previous day. It's still early morning of the new day, so the opening of the Rainbow Bridge is still hours away.

Now what?
Try it and find out!

Lilia:
Kylie wrote:"Lia changed drastically in appearance due to her choice, but your appearance didn't change at all," Kylie replies. "I can still see similarity in Lia's features from before; perhaps the same will be true of Myev. Of course, I suspect the transformation from orc, or scro, to elf may be an even greater amount of change than from half-elf to dark elf. I guess we won't really know until she emerges from the cocoon."
“That is a good point,” Lilia agrees. “Lia's changes were all external. Mine were all internal. It's hard to explain, but I am not the same as I was when we first met all those months ago in the Green Forest Inn. I suppose that it all has to do with me being changed into a Priest of Corellon. I'm not as smart as I used to be, but the Star Crown does help offset that. I seem to be wiser than I ever was before, which I suppose is a bonus. My skill as a transmuter is lost, but I suppose I had to lose some things in order to gain others.”
Kylie wrote:This is very interesting news indeed. The influx of elves will open up many more possibilities. "Once we have a sense of who all has come through, we can start figuring out priorities and assignments for various tasks."
“I know,” Lilia says. “But everyone seems to want me to make decisions and choices instantly, so I have to consider things and then decide what the next logical step would be. All my training as a child didn't prepare me for this.”
“The High Keeper did mention that he thought the Mother Tree would block scying in the Sylvan Realm,” Lilia speaks up. “So that could be the explanation. Kylie and Lia are both welcomed to go and verify what I have told you.”

After settling things at the Sunflower, Lilia flies back up to Golden Peak to relax for the evening. She plays a little bit with Lady before turning in for the evening. Sleep eventually comes, but the Elf Maiden's mind is a whirl with possibilities and plans.

Next morning Lilia rise and upon sunrise sees that the leaves of the Mother Tree have turned rainbow colored! Its true! The Rainbow Bridge will arrive today!
Sheeryl seeks out Lilia to reveal what her divinations have discovered. “The masters of the Sunflower will be coming,” Sheeryl reports. “However, they will not arrive for 8 more days.”
“Eight days?” Lilia mulls. “Slower than I was expecting, but welcomed none the less. It gives us time to prepare. Thank you for efforts Seeress.”
After that, Sheeryl will ride a griffon down to the Sunflower. Once there, she asks where the vile vidate liquid is at. After locating it, Sheeryl casts Destroy Water on it, vaporize the elf controlling water. The vidate is no more.
Lilia will also thank Sheeryl for dealing with the vidate in a proper manner. Total destruction!
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

Onas Brightsword:
Valena wrote:“Why thank you, forest rider,” Valena wryly responds. “Unfortunately, I didn't see any horses while out on patrol. I'm not sure if they are native to the Sylvan Realm or not.”
A surprised look crosses Onas' face, then fades into concern. "I hadn't considered that possibility. That may hamper our ability to develop a force of Forest Riders here. I guess we'll have to see who comes through the Rainbow Bridge tomorrow, and whether they bring any horses with them.

"Of course, the Sylvan Realm is a large place, and from what I've heard, much of it has not been explored yet. Who knows what we will find."
Valena wrote:“That is amazing,” Valena answers in a excited tone. “Truth be told, I never gave the Mother Tree's origins any thought. She simply has always been there like a quiet companion. That she can speak is astounding!”
Valena's words echo exactly what Onas has been thinking ever since he witnessed the event. He cannot help but wonder how much more they do not yet know about these grand old trees.

Laucian and Valena discuss Myev for a bit, but Onas doesn't participate, as he has no real experience of her other than that happened here in the Heart of the Mother Tree. He must admit that she is clearly special, based on what happened here, so it is hard to get a sense of her otherwise.
Valena wrote:“Talen always seems uncertain of things,” Valena continues. “He is young and unsure of himself. Nervous before any sort of battle or engagement, but he steps up when the times comes. I am sure he will in this as well.”
Onas nods in acknowledgement of Valena's summary of the young half-elf. "Honestly, I worry about those who are not nervous before battle. Those are the ones most likely to take foolish risks. Talen proved himself in the rescue of the Mother Tree, and even if he never does anything of note again, he would still be a great hero on that basis."
Valena wrote:“Oh,” Valena utters. “Where are my manners? This is Taure.” Valena pats the back of the cooshee on her left. “And this is Duin.” Valena indicates the other cooshee. “While I wasn't there when Laucian encountered their pack, those two took to me once we had reunited.”
A smile appears on Onas' face. "Hello, Taure. Hello Duin." He greets each of the cooshees in turn, allowing them to get his scent, and then stoking their fur if they permit it. "It is a pleasure to meet you both."

The night is peaceful and quiet; Onas honors Angharradh in her aspect as Sehanine Moonbow, goddess of the moon and night skies. During his shifts, Onas will clean and polish his weapons and armor, one piece at a time, while maintaining awareness of their surroundings.

Come morning, Onas is disappointed that Myev has not yet emerged from Mother Tree's embrace. He steps outside to greet the dawn, offering up a prayer to Angharradh in her guise as Aerdrie Faenya, goddess of air and weather.

Returning inside, Onas remarks to his companions, "Should be a big day. It will be interesting to see what it has in store for us."

“Not to disagree, my queen but some things were not so external.” She says looking between the two. While my appearance changed to that of my grandmother’s kin there were other things that came with my change. The light tends to hurt my eyes especially above the tree line.”
“In truth she is turning into an elf but we do not yet know of what type.”Looking at Kylie, “You may want to prepare yourself if she appears as I do or that of a sea elf. As they say plan for the worst, expect the best.”
“The High Keeper did mention that he thought the Mother Tree would block scying in the Sylvan Realm,” Lilia speaks up. “So that could be the explanation. Kylie and Lia are both welcomed to go and verify what I have told you.”
Lia follows as Argent pulls out her crystal ball. She tries to scry on Myev but nothing comes about. Lia thinks about it for a moment than says, “I will go and see of her transformation. Perhaps we may bring her back with us so that you may see her with her own eyes, if she is able to that is looking to Lilia.
Saying goodnight to the others, Lia moves up to the deck beneath the moon and begins to pray to her patron. She dances in the moonlight to a song that he grandmother had taught her. As she finishes she looks up at the mother tree, grateful that she was apart of bringing her back from the brink of death so that her people may survive, regardless of how they look at her.
On the next morning, Sheeryl comes asking of the vials. She shows her the way and stands back as the priest takes care of the vile liquid.
“Thank you for taking care of that vile liquid.” She says to Sheeryl. May I accompany you back to the Mother tree?”She asks
Lia will make her way back to the Mother Tree.
The last thing you shall hear is the bladesong of my sword.

Onas wrote:
"Also, as I understand it, Talen is the key to reaching this other world to rescue the elves, and maybe even the other Mother Tree. Unfortunately, he seems uncertain about how he will accomplish that."
Laucian listens to Onas and soon says, “Talen is young untried but true of heart. We were all just such at one time or another. We just have to have faith in him.” He says evenly.
Valena wrote:
“We just returned from patrolling the grounds around the base of the Mother Tree,” Valena reports. “All is quiet, but we cannot venture too far away since there are so few of us.”
“For the moment,”he replies evenly, “I will have to see to the Golden Gryphons and set them to patrol our lands where the Silver Maidens may not be able given their numbers
“Hmm, that's not what Onyx says,” Valena counters in a serious tone. “He'd like more attention and more mice to munch on.”
Laucian looks up at Onyx, the cat’s yellow eyes looking back at him. “I will have to be more diligent, though he will have to hunt for his own mice.”he says with a grin.
Valena:
“I admit I didn't see much worth in Myev myself, but clearly she is important. If she can help us recover those elves who remain on this other world, than that would be wonderful. It is good news that the Rainbow Bridge will open tomorrow! Guard duty no longer suits me. The chance to explore a whole new world is a tempting one.
“I honestly cannot wait to see who comes from the rainbow bridge. It will be interesting to see which clans are represented. Perhaps if enough elves come we can grow a war band as Lilia has stated. But more so what the leadership of the Elfholds will make of our new Queen.”
Laucian greets each Cooshee in turn petting them as his own bay for attention, Stepping back to his own cooshee. Laucian begins playing with them.
A surprised look crosses Onas' face, then fades into concern. "I hadn't considered that possibility. That may hamper our ability to develop a force of Forest Riders here. I guess we'll have to see who comes through the Rainbow Bridge tomorrow, and whether they bring any horses with them.
“You may want to think on where you will house these horses as well as where they will graze. I can show you where not to let them graze as there are certain hunting grounds that the Gryphons tend to favour.”
“Then please do not worry for me. When Ehlonna calls for me, I will answer.” Laucian says with a wry smile( Laucian is merely saying he has faith in his Patron and her design for him) . “ In truth, I do not fear for Talen. He is skilled and true of heart yet young. In time he will be like an oak. His roots will run deep and stand tall against both wind and storm. He is yet a seedling.”
Laucian does his watch his long bow in hand as he walks the heart of the tree. He soon hears snoring and looks over to see the cooshee lying next to each other Onyx curled up in between. A smile comes to his face, “Always the opportunist.”he muses to himself. After a time he will remove his quiver and take inventory of his arrows both Magical and regular.
He will pray to Ehlonna for her continued guidance and blessings. Hoping that he is leaving up to her expectations.

Returning inside, Onas remarks to his companions, "Should be a big day. It will be interesting to see what it has in store for us."
As he is packing up his gear, “It will be what it shall.”he says evenly not wishing to be a downer to Onas. “There is still much to be done.”
Laucian will excuse himself and go check on Aura and the Golden Gryphons. He will make sure that they are patrolling and are present upon the rainbow bridges arrival. Afterward Laucian will head to the room where the wooden table depicting the Slyvain realm is. He will get familiar where each of the gryhons nests are.
Til Ehlonna's will be done

Talen:
Kylie wrote:"I can imagine it was, Talen," Kylie sympathizes. "We were quite startled and alarmed when Myev suddenly vanished. We thought the ship might be under attack."
“Yeah, I didn't know what was going on at first,” Talen notes. “Stuff just seems to happen to me like that.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie listens as Talen tells his tale. The pieces are starting to fit together. "I think that may be connected to when that stone pillar up north grabbed your head and left those small burns on your temples. There were quite a few pillar artifacts out there of various sizes, including one where we found the ship that was the size of a lighthouse. Since they seem to function as teleporters, we suspect that the size of the pillar may have something to do with their range. Perhaps the giant one will be able to reach Myev's home world where the trapped elves are."
“Maybe,” Talen answers. “I never gave it any real thought. Whatever that column did, it didn't give me any special insight into those pillar things.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie smiles warmly. "Have a good night, Talen. I'll check in with you tomorrow after we get back from Karn's Keep."
“Thank you,” Talen respond in kind, wishing he could find the words to say something more, but nothing comes to mind.
Lilia wrote:“The High Keeper did mention that he thought the Mother Tree would block scying in the Sylvan Realm,” Lilia speaks up. “So that could be the explanation. Kylie and Lia are both welcomed to go and verify what I have told you.”
“Sorry, these means nothing to me,” Talen says dejectedly. “It's just gibberish. But, I also did see Myev cocooned. She is there and safe. I think some of the others are watching over her tonight.”

Once things settle down and people start to go their own way, Talen will retire for the evening. He lays in the bed, worried that he will not be able to life up to what everyone expects of him. Sleep does not come easy this night.

Sometime next morning, Talen pulls himself up and goes in search of something to eat. Hopefully Argent has already cooked up something wonderful.

He hears that Sheeryl has destroyed the elfin controlling potions and is thankful for that. Not having much to do, Talen just hangs around the Sunflower.

Valena:
Laucian wrote:“For the moment,”he replies evenly, “I will have to see to the Golden Gryphons and set them to patrol our lands where the Silver Maidens may not be able given their numbers.”
“There will always only be a handful of Silver Maidens,” Valena states matter-of-factually. “Simply because the requirements are so difficult. One has to be pure of heart to be accepted by a unicorn. Once all three of our organizations have grown, our roles should be pretty obvious. The Golden Griffons perform aerial scouting all around the Sylvan Realm and perhaps even beyond her borders. The Forest Riders will patrol the roads in the forests and around the clan holds while we Silver Maidens target the less populated and unexplored areas. As I see it, it is important for the three of us to work in unison towards the greater goal of protecting the Sylvan Realm.”
Onas wrote:A surprised look crosses Onas' face, then fades into concern. "I hadn't considered that possibility. That may hamper our ability to develop a force of Forest Riders here. I guess we'll have to see who comes through the Rainbow Bridge tomorrow, and whether they bring any horses with them.”
“Perhaps they will bring some horses with them,” Valena agrees. “I too am curious who will be arriving tomorrow. Laucian and I are hoping for a few more followers of Ehlonna so that they can take over the Lady's shrine. One less duty for us to contend with as we work on other issues.”
Onas wrote:"Of course, the Sylvan Realm is a large place, and from what I've heard, much of it has not been explored yet. Who knows what we will find."
“That is true, Onas,” Valena says. “Horses tend to favor plains or light forest, so not finding any around the Mother Tree is no great surprise. The forest here is too dense for them. But there is a larger area of plains to the east and the south. Perhaps horses can be found there.”
Laucian wrote:“You may want to think on where you will house these horses as well as where they will graze. I can show you where not to let them graze as there are certain hunting grounds that the Gryphons tend to favor.”
“While we really didn't explore the abandoned clan holds before,” Valena adds, “I am sure that they would have stables for horses in them. They do back in the Elfholds, so I would assume they have them here as well.”
Onas wrote:Onas nods in acknowledgment of Valena's summary of the young half-elf. "Honestly, I worry about those who are not nervous before battle. Laucian wrote:“I honestly cannot wait to see who comes from the rainbow bridge. It will be interesting to see which clans are represented. Perhaps if enough elves come we can grow a war band as Lilia has stated. But more so what the leadership of the Elfholds will make of our new Queen.”
“I hadn't thought of that,” Valena admits. “I figure it would be elves looking to reclaim their clan holds, possibility adventurers looking for excitement and what not. I didn't consider that the rulers of the Elfholds would come, even just for a visit while the Rainbow Bridge is open. Given his role, I would imagine that King Doriath himself might show up. He would be Lilia's counterpart after all.”
Onas wrote:A smile appears on Onas' face. "Hello, Taure. Hello Duin." He greets each of the cooshees in turn, allowing them to get his scent, and then stoking their fur if they permit it. "It is a pleasure to meet you both."
“They are both most gentle,” Valena assures Onas. “As you can see that they pay no heed to Onyx being around them. But when in battle, especially against orcs, they are brutal and destructive. They swarm like a pack and rip any foe they down apart. Crude, but extremely effective.”
Onas wrote:The night is peaceful and quiet; Onas honors Angharradh in her aspect as Sehanine Moonbow, goddess of the moon and night skies. During his shifts, Onas will clean and polish his weapons and armor, one piece at a time, while maintaining awareness of their surroundings.

Onas wrote:Returning inside, Onas remarks to his companions, "Should be a big day. It will be interesting to see what it has in store for us."
“We have a few hours before the Rainbow Bridge should arrive,” Valena notes, seeing Laucian gather up his gear as if he is departing. “Do you think one of us should continue to keep an eye on Myev in case something happens?”

Alurien wrote:“I surmised as much,” Allurien wryly notes. “You are the only human here.”
“That is a dead giveaway,” Argent says with a laugh. At least Kylie's mom has a sense of humor.
Allurien wrote:“A pleasure to meet you as well, Argent,” Allurien intones with a small bow.

“And I am pleased that she had a friend like you while I was away,” Allurien adds. “Eleven years passed for me in the blink of an eye. Kylie grew up while I was away, so we are still getting to know each other again.”
“Eleven years,” Argent whistles. “That's like half of my life. At least you found each other again. Even if it was far from home.”
Kylie wrote:"That's a great idea, Argent!" Kylie says enthusiastically.
“Thanks!” Argent beams.
Lilia wrote:“A fair compromise,” Lilia states. Although the Elf Maiden is unsure if the Mother Tree blocks scrying or not.
“At least she isn't against that idea,” Argent thinks to herself.
Lilia wrote:“A very handy trait for a scholar,” Lilia observes. And a horrible one as well as it seems that the human mage will never forget what the scro put her through.
“It makes it easy to learn things when I put my mind to it,” Argent answers.
“Well fudge!” Argent curses. “So much for that idea.”
Lilia wrote:“The High Keeper did mention that he thought the Mother Tree would block scying in the Sylvan Realm,” Lilia speaks up. “So that could be the explanation. Kylie and Lia are both welcomed to go and verify what I have told you.”
“Of course she does,” Argent mutters in regards to the Mother Tree blocking scrying. “I guess having Kylie and others go and see will just have to do for now.”
Lilia wrote:Lia follows as Argent pulls out her crystal ball. She tries to scry on Myev but nothing comes about. Lia thinks about it for a moment than says, “I will go and see of her transformation. “That would be nice,” Argent offers.
Talen wrote:“Sorry, these means nothing to me,” Talen says dejectedly. “It's just gibberish. But, I also did see Myev cocooned. She is there and safe. I think some of the others are watching over her tonight.”
Argent is not surprised. Talen doesn't seem the scholarly type learning the Elder language does not come easy.

“Kylie is my friend and I trust her,” Argent will say. “If she tells me that Myev is safe, than I will believe her.”

Argent will settle in for the evening after the elves depart. She changes into her sleeping attire and tries to rest for the evening. The Invoker is unsure if she should go home like Kylie had planned or wait until Myev was back. That decision haunts her for most of the night.
I am an Invoker of no small power.

Kylie Lanthorn of Clan Feador:
Allurien wrote:“And I am pleased that she had a friend like you while I was away,” Allurien adds. “Eleven years passed for me in the blink of an eye. Kylie grew up while I was away, so we are still getting to know each other again.”
Argent wrote:“Eleven years,” Argent whistles. “That's like half of my life. At least you found each other again. Even if it was far from home.”
Kylie smiles, pleased by the friendly banter between her mother and her oldest friend here in the Realm. Argent has expressed some distrust of elves, but that doesn't seem to extend to Allurien. "I'm just happy that you two got a chance to finally meet!" Despite her enthusiasm and joy, Kylie realizes that she has never really given any thought to what it must be like for her mom to have lost more than a decade of her life. Something to ask her about at some point in the future...
Lilia wrote:“That is a good point,” Lilia agrees.
A moment of shock registers on Kylie's face. This is something she was unaware of. "You're no longer a mage?.. Or did you just lose the specialization and become a generalist mage?"
Lia wrote:“Not to disagree, my queen but some things were not so external.” She says looking between the two.
Kylie hears wisdom in Lia's words. "You are right, Lia. We have no way of knowing what kind of elf Myev may become, or what silent communication may happen or has happened between her and Mother Tree while in the cocoon. Since the elven spirit came from Myev's home world, my guess would be that she's most likely to become one of those 'Belcadiz' elves - but we really don't know.

"Now that you mention it, we don't know what mental changes she may experience as well. I can only hope that she will come through it okay."
Lilia wrote:“I know,” Lilia says. “But everyone seems to want me to make decisions and choices instantly, so I have to consider things and then decide what the next logical step would be. All my training as a child didn't prepare me for this.”
Kylie ponders a moment, and catches the hint of anxiety in the queen's words. "Admittedly, I've never really given much thought to the demands of being responsible for so many people. Perhaps that is part of why so many rulers and leaders are so poor at it. Still, I think the fact that you take your responsibility seriously, and really want to be the best leader you can be, means you have a far better starting point than most. The rest you can learn as you go, and you have many good advisors available to help you; we will all help you as much as we can."
Talen wrote:“Yeah, I didn't know what was going on at first,” Talen notes. “Stuff just seems to happen to me like that.”
"I know what you mean, Talen," Kylie says sympathetically. "We have all had some very strange and unexpected things happen to us since we met over a month ago. I think it is just part of this life that we have chosen; if we had just stayed home and continued the lives we were living, they would no doubt have been quite a bit less eventful."
Talen wrote:“Maybe,” Talen answers. “I never gave it any real thought. Whatever that column did, it didn't give me any special insight into those pillar things.”
"Hmm..." Kylie muses. "You may be right. On the other hand, it may be that you have the information, but it is like a puzzle that your brain needs to assemble to make sense of. Give yourself time, and we will see what we will see."

Argent's crystal ball is unable to pierce whatever scrying protections the Mother Tree has in place.
Lia wrote:Lia follows as Argent pulls out her crystal ball. She tries to scry on Myev but nothing comes about. Lia thinks about it for a moment than says, “I will go and see of her transformation. Perhaps we may bring her back with us so that you may see her with her own eyes, if she is able to that is looking to Lilia.
Argent wrote:“Of course she does,” Argent mutters in regards to the Mother Tree blocking scrying. “I guess having Kylie and others go and see will just have to do for now.”

“Kylie is my friend and I trust her,” Argent will say. “If she tells me that Myev is safe, than I will believe her.”
"Thank you, Argent," Kylie says, wrapping an arm around her friend. "I will meet Lia at the Heart of Mother Tree in the morning to check on Myev, and return to let you know what we find."

In the morning, Kylie will refresh her spells, then pack for the trip to Karn's Keep. They don't intend to stay, so she doesn't need much, but she does want to be prepared for unexpected contingencies. If the last few months have taught her anything, it is to be prepared for the unexpected.

Stepping out of the Feador clan-home with Dapple at her side, Kylie is struck speechless by the beautiful riot of color that has enveloped the leaves of the Mother Tree. "Wow..." she murmurs to herself. "No wonder they call it the Rainbow Bridge... Guess there's no mistaking that!" After her shock wears off, she flies over to the Heart chamber to check on Myev. Dapple playfully runs after her, barking happily.

I'm not sure who exactly will be at the Heart when Kylie arrives, so I'll wait to post her greetings until I have a better sense of it.

Interesting that Argent sees it Kylie's plan, considering that Argent has been adamant about going and not wanting to return.

Agent wrote:“Eleven years,” Argent whistles. “That's like half of my life. At least you found each other again. Even if it was far from home.”
“It was must welcome and most unexpected,” Allurien agrees. “We elves look at the passing of years differently that humans do. The passage of that much time may seem huge to a human, but it is not for an elf.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie smiles, pleased by the friendly banter between her mother and her oldest friend here in the Realm. Argent has expressed some distrust of elves, but that doesn't seem to extend to Allurien. "I'm just happy that you two got a chance to finally meet!"
“I am glad that we could,” Allurien adds. “Hopefully I will be able to meet more of those who helped you grow up in the future. Perhaps even tomorrow on our trip to this Karn's Keep.”

Later that evening, after Kylie returns to the quarters she shares with her mother, Allurien will say, “With the arrival of the Rainbow Bridge tomorrow, I feel that as the representative for Clan Feador that I need to be here when the time comes. I will teleport you and Argent to Karn's Keep, but I wish to keep the trip short. A few hours so that I do not miss the arrival of the Rainbow Bridge. Is that agreeable with you?”

December 3rd, CR 571 or Deepnight 25th, 20,519 AP

The Mother Tree's leaves are a colorful rainbow hue come the morning light, signifying that the Rainbow Bridge will arrive when the sun is at its highest in the sky. That is still a few hours away, but there is much to do in the meantime.

The dawn finds Myev still cocooned within the Heart of the Tree. Laucian departs to carry out his duties, leaving Onas and Valena behind for now.

The Seeress Sheeryl Soulsearcher reveals to Lilia that the masters of the Sunflower will arrive in 8 days time. Then she rides a griffon down to the Sunflower. Lia leads the Sheeryl to the vidate potions and then stands back as the Seeress casts Destroy Water on the vidate, eliminating the potions.
Lia wrote:“Thank you for taking care of that vile liquid.” She says to Sheeryl. May I accompany you back to the Mother tree?” She asks.
“I don't mind, Lia,” Sheeryl says with a smile.

Lia makes her way to the Heart of the Tree to find Kylie already there.

Up on Golden Peak, Laucian can see that there is a great deal of excitement among the elves as they all know the Rainbow Bridge is arriving today. Many hope to see familiar faces or at least someone from home.

Laucian makes his way to the meeting area for the Golden Griffons. The table there has a map of the Sylvan Realm. This map shows the location of all the clan holds and all the griffon stables. There are 10 different griffon stables in all, each scattered about the Sylvan Realm. Based on their locations, its reasonable to assume that each clan hold also has a griffon stable above it. For the most part each stable is a one day's flight away from its closest neighbors. So there should be at least 17 griffon stables in all.

GM Notes:

I updated the Sylvan Realms 2 map to indicate the location of the griffon stables. As noted in the post, there are 10 griffon stables by themselves, like the one you've visited several times in the past near the geysers. The rest are part of the clan holds.

Beyond the outer edge of the map, there are a ring of outposts that surround the mountains that the table does show. These outposts are one days flight away from the nearest griffon stable and also one days flight away from each other. There are about 15 such outposts. The ancient elves used them as observation posts to see what was going on outside the Sylvan Realm. Crimson Crest that you visited while in pursuit of Chandra was one of these outposts.

The Rainbow Bridge is a few hours away. Allurien and Kylie are getting ready to take Argent to Karn's Keep.

Now what?
Try it and find out!

Onas Brightsword:
Laucian wrote:Laucian listens to Onas and soon says, “Talen is young untried but true of heart. We were all just such at one time or another. We just have to have faith in him.” He says evenly.
Onas nods as he listens to Laucian's evaluation of Talen. "I trust you are right, Laucian, as you have known Talen for a while now."
Valena wrote:“There will always only be a handful of Silver Maidens,” Valena states matter-of-factually.
Valena's words line up well with Onas' initial thoughts on the matter. "What you say makes sense, Valena. I am excited by the opportunity to work with and learn from both of you. It really is a dream come true for me."
Laucian greets each Cooshee in turn petting them as his own bay for attention, Stepping back to his own cooshee. Laucian begins playing with them.
Laucian makes good points, and Onas would welcome the development of a war band. His mention of leadership reminds him of Lilia's suggestion regarding his own role here, which causes his stomach to roil uncomfortably.
Valena wrote:“Perhaps they will bring some horses with them,” Valena agrees. “I too am curious who will be arriving tomorrow. Laucian and I are hoping for a few more followers of Ehlonna so that they can take over the Lady's shrine. One less duty for us to contend with as we work on other issues.”
Laucian wrote:“You may want to think on where you will house these horses as well as where they will graze. I can show you where not to let them graze as there are certain hunting grounds that the Gryphons tend to favour.”
Valena wrote:“While we really didn't explore the abandoned clan holds before,” Valena adds, “I am sure that they would have stables for horses in them. They do back in the Elfholds, so I would assume they have them here as well.”
Onas is reassured by Laucian and Valena's thoughts regarding the horses. "I will be sure to look into it as the opportunity arises." On the other hand, Onas realizes that he has not yet investigated the presence of a shrine to Angharradh here in the Sylvan Realm. One more thing to discuss with the elders...
Laucian wrote:“Then please do not worry for me.
Onas chuckles. "Faith in our patrons and each other makes us strong, and that is as it should be. I look forward to seeing how Talen and many others here grow."
Valena wrote:“They are both most gentle,” Valena assures Onas. “As you can see that they pay no heed to Onyx being around them. But when in battle, especially against orcs, they are brutal and destructive. They swarm like a pack and rip any foe they down apart. Crude, but extremely effective.”
Onas nods, a grim look on his face. "I have witnessed cooshees in battle, and it is fearsome to behold."
Laucian wrote:As he is packing up his gear, “It will be what it shall.”he says evenly not wishing to be a downer to Onas. “There is still much to be done.”
Laucian wrote:“We have a few hours before the Rainbow Bridge should arrive,” Valena notes, seeing Laucian gather up his gear as if he is departing. “Do you think one of us should continue to keep an eye on Myev in case something happens?”
"Yes, Valena, I do," Onas says with a note of concern. "I really hope someone comes to relieve us; as Laucian says, there is much to be done." With all of his new responsibilities, Onas is a little overwhelmed with trying to figure out what all needs to be done, much less do it all.

“I thank you for your patience,” Lilia says with a nod. “Assuming that you travel to Karn's Keep come the morning, than I wish you well Argent. Be safe, be happy.”

Early the next morning Lilia rises before the daybreak. She quickly composes a letter and than seals it. After running into Sheeryl, Lilia makes her way to the Heart of the Tree to see if anything happened there overnight.

By the time she arrives, Onas, Valena, Kylie and Lia are there. After seeing that there is no change to Myev, Lilia turns to Kylie.

“I have a favor to ask of you,” Lilia says as she hands the sealed letter to Kylie. “Please see that either Lord Sharadin, Sherwood or Jallarzi receive this letter.”

“I spoke with Sheeryl earlier this morning,” Lilia continues. “The owners of the Sunflower will be arriving in eight days. That gives us time to prepare for their arrival and plan a proper welcome to those slavers.”

Afterwards, Lilia will go back up to Golden Peak and join the others in preparing for the arrival of the Rainbow Bridge.

Kylie Lanthorn of Clan Feador:
Allurien wrote:“It was must welcome and most unexpected,” Allurien agrees. “We elves look at the passing of years differently that humans do. The passage of that much time may seem huge to a human, but it is not for an elf.”
This is a difficult concept for Kylie to grasp. It occurs to her that this may be one of the great differences between humans and elves. Having grown up surrounded mostly by humans, she has a mostly-human perspective on time. Of course, despite being half-elven, her likely lifespan is far closer to that of a human than that of an elf.

Then it hits her: Her mother will almost certainly outlive her by centuries. Kylie will grow old and grey, and wither and die, while her mother remains largely unchanged. This realization leaves her with an unsettled feeling that she has no idea how to deal with...
Allurien wrote:“I am glad that we could,” Allurien adds. “Hopefully I will be able to meet more of those who helped you grow up in the future. Perhaps even tomorrow on our trip to this Karn's Keep.”
Kylie forces herself out of her contemplative state. "That's very possible, mom. You've already met Sherwood, but we might also run into Jallarzi, as well as Sharadin and the twins.

===
Lilia wrote:“I am now a generalist mage,” Lilia states. “I lost my expertise with transmutation magic when I was changed. I suppose at some point I should go back and attempt to learn those spells I could not before.”
Kylie ponders Lilia's response for a moment. "I suppose that is a benefit. Does casting... feel... any different? I'm not quite sure how to ask this... But I'm really curious about how you experience that kind of change, or how it affects your perception of magic."
Lilia wrote:“That is a point I had not considered,” Lilia adds. “When the Mother Tree said she was going be turned into an elf, I assumed it to be a high elf, but really we do not know what passes for an elf on Myev's world.”
Kylie feels a strange sense of pleasure to know that she had perceived a facet of a concept before Lilia did. She's not sure that has happened before, particularly since Lilia got the Star Crown. Lilia agrees that they will only know what Myev will become after she emerges.
Lilia wrote:“I thank you for your patience,” Lilia says with a nod. “Assuming that you travel to Karn's Keep come the morning, than I wish you well Argent. Be safe, be happy.”
Kylie notes - or thinks she notes - a touch of snarkiness in Lilia's comment. To avoid creating any further tension, she decides not to mention it. Still, it is a side of Lilia that she has not seen before. To Kylie's mind, it actually bodes well for her future as a queen.

===
Allurien wrote:Later that evening, after Kylie returns to the quarters she shares with her mother, Allurien will say, “With the arrival of the Rainbow Bridge tomorrow, I feel that as the representative for Clan Feador that I need to be here when the time comes. I will teleport you and Argent to Karn's Keep, but I wish to keep the trip short. A few hours so that I do not miss the arrival of the Rainbow Bridge. Is that agreeable with you?”
"I understand, mom," Kylie says, nodding. "Now that I can Teleport, I can always go back and visit another time."

===

Stepping into the Heart of Mother Tree, Kylie finds Valena and Arlen's brother Onas. There is no sign of Myev, other than the strange, leafy cocoon. From what Lilia said, that must be where Myev is undergoing her transformation. She had really hoped that Myev would have emerged by now, but - disappointingly - that seems to not be the case.

"Hi Valena! How are you doing this morning?" she asks, waving to her friend. "Good morning, Onas. I presume this is Myev's cocoon that Lilia told us about?" Kylie reaches down and lays her hand on the large ball of branches and leaves.

When Lia arrives, Kylie greets her and points to the cocoon. "As you can see, Myev hasn't emerged yet. I think we're all becoming a bit anxious about it."

Lilia arrives a little later and hands Kylie an envelope.
“I have a favor to ask of you,” Lilia says as she hands the sealed letter to Kylie. “Please see that either Lord Sharadin, Sherwood or Jallarzi receive this letter.”
Accepting the letter, Kylie puts it in one of her enchanted Girdle's pockets. "I will see to it," she say, sensing that this may be a serious matter.
Lilia wrote:“I spoke with Sheeryl earlier this morning,” Lilia continues. “The owners of the Sunflower will be arriving in eight days. That gives us time to prepare for their arrival and plan a proper welcome to those slavers.”
It takes Kylie a moment to take in this news. She hadn't really thought that the slavers would be able to track down the ship, but it appears that she was wrong about that. "Eight days. Yes, that should give us plenty of time to prepare... I want a piece of them myself." There is a dangerous note in her voice that few have heard. There were things she did - things she had to do to survive - during her days in Dog Alley that creep into her voice when she intends to get ugly.

“I don't mind, Lia,” Sheeryl says with a smile.
Lia makes her way to the Heart of the Tree to find Kylie already there.
Several thoughts go through Lia’s mind as she flies towards the mother tree. The rhythmic thump of the griffons wings is relaxing to her as the breeze caresses her face. Within moments the griffon lands and Lia departs for the Mother tree tree’s heart.
“But that is a common trait associated with being a drow,” Lilia notes. “You gained certain advantages of the dark elves and their disadvantages as well. Those were not unexpected.”
“Agree to disagree.”she mutters.
“That is a point I had not considered,” Lilia adds. “When the Mother Tree said she was going be turned into an elf, I assumed it to be a high elf, but really we do not know what passes for an elf on Myev's world.”
“Or perhaps a Hybrid of the two or many.” She says thoughtfully. “It is exciting to think and ponder. Care to make a wager as to what she may become.”she asks playfully to Kylie and Lilia.
When Lia arrives , Kylie greets her and points to the cocoon. "As you can see, Myev hasn't emerged yet. I think we're all becoming a bit anxious about it."
Lia will greet Valena, Onas and Kylie in turn. “her lavender eyes gaze upon the branches and leaves that house Myev. She can only imagine what she is going through. “I am curious to say the least.”She says matter of factly.
Lilia wrote-“I spoke with Sheeryl earlier this morning,” Lilia continues. “The owners of the Sunflower will be arriving in eight days. That gives us time to prepare for their arrival and plan a proper welcome to those slavers.”
Lia listens to the words of her Queen and her stomach drops knowing that this day would eventually come. 8 days it is much to prepare with so few. With the bridge open many more elves will be susceptible to the slavers. “In 8 days time, they will pay for their transgressions against our people.” She says confidently but she realizes the first step in losing is underestimating their enemy.
As Lilia departs, Lia catches up with her queen. “There is a strong chance they will come with more ships… We will need to find the weaknesses of their vessels.”

Onas Brightsword:
Kylie wrote:"Hi Valena! How are you doing this morning?" she asks, waving to her friend. "Good morning, Onas. I presume this is Myev's cocoon that Lilia told us about?" Kylie reaches down and lays her hand on the large ball of branches and leaves.
"Good morning to you, Lady Kylie." Onas is quite pleased that she remembered his name.
Valena wrote:“I am well, Kylie,” Valena easily answers as she greets Dapple. “As for the cocoon, that is what they tell me.”
Onas nods in agreement. "That is correct. I saw the orcish woman embraced by Mother Tree myself, and have been here all night. Many... unexpected things occurred here last night, not least of which was Mother Tree forming a face and speaking to us of the elven spirit within this woman."

Onas returns Lia's greeting when she arrives. It is so strange to be treating one of the dark elves as a friend. This is an unusual time indeed.

Queens Lilia arrives moments later, and Onas snaps to attention. After speaking with Kylie on a private matter, the queen announces that the slavers will come for the ship in 8 days. Kylie and Lia immediately pledge their aid in fighting them; there is particular vehemence in Kylie's tone, which seems at odds with the sweet disposition that he has seen from her up until now. Clearly, there is more to this woman than meets the eye, which may explain some of why Corellon made her one of his chosen even at such a tender age.

"I, too, will help however I may, my queen."

Lilia leaves soon after, and Onas feels that he must follow suit. "As Laucian said, there is much to be done. Good day, my friends." Gathering up his things from the previous night, Onas leaves in search of Sheeryl or one of the other elders.

Talen's words draw a chuckle from Kylie. "I sometimes feel the same way. Post Continued:

Excitement is in the air at Golden Peak on top of the Mother Tree. The Rainbow Bridge will be arriving in just a few hours! Those who spent years trapped in the Rainbow Bridge are eager to see old friends and learn of the news from home. A handful of elves are also planning to leave the Sylvan Realm and return to the Elfholds. The only familiar face among them is Ombryn Elarus. He was the elf that Chandra left behind at Crimson Crest in a near comatose state.

Laucian reaches the griffon stables and quickly locates Aura. Each landing area at Golden Peak, there are eight of them in all, has a stable close to it. It's large open area covered with a roof to keep the griffons dry during the night. There are multiple griffon nests in each stable and troughs for water. Aura is there resting comfortably in her nest.

As the morning drags on, more and more elves are near the area where the Rainbow Bridge will arrive at. Laucian hears a voice call out to him. Turning he sees Gweyr Autumnfire approaching.

“For it being such a joyous day,” Gweyr inquires, “why do you look so sad?”

At the Heart of the Tree Kylie just departed a few moments ago when Allurien arrives.

“I wanted to see this cocoon for myself,” Allurien tells those present. “And to catch up with my daughter. I'm teleporting her and Argent to Karn's Keep and she isn't waiting for me. Have you seen her?”

Back up on Golden Peak, Onas spots Sheeryl Soulsearcher sitting on a bench seemingly lost in thought.

GM Notes:

The Rainbow Bridge will arrive next post! Otherwise, continue with your conversations.

Kylie's trip to Karn's Keep will be covered in Cynalon Knights starting with post #12. There's going to be a lot happening in both posts and since much of what goes on at Karn's Keep has little impact on the Sylvan Realm, I wanted to keep them apart to make it easier to follow.

Now what?

“I really doesn't feel any different,” Lilia answers. “Casting a spell is casting a spell. It feels different than casting a priest spell, but that's understandable. It's a different procedure.”
Kylie wrote:It takes Kylie a moment to take in this news.
Valena wrote:“It might be wise to ask Sheeryl to perform more Divinations,” Valena suggests. “Find out how these slavers are arriving. Be it by a flying ship or by magic. The more we know about how they will be arriving, the better we can prepare for an inhospitable welcome.”

Lia wrote:As Lilia departs, Lia catches up with her queen. “There is a strong chance they will come with more ships… We will need to find the weaknesses of their vessels.”

We don't know how powerful this Talagran Trading Company is, so right now all we can do is guess.”

As Lilia makes her way back up to the Golden Peak area of the Mother Tree, she can see more and more elves are about waiting for the Rainbow Bridge to arrive. It also seems that some elves are also planning on returning to the Elfholds. Lilia will say a few words to them, thanking them for all that they have done and sacrificed to com here. She won't try to talk any of them out of going back.

Otherwise Lilia will chat with those around her as they wait for the sun to rise high in the sky.

“What you say makes a great deal of sense, Laucian, Valena answers. “However, it seems to me that Argent and Kylie are the ones she knows the best.”
“Sadly Argent is not allowed near the Mother tree. As for Kylie I do not know her plans.”
Laucian comes to the stable and tells Onyx to stay outside and hunt for mice. The last thing he wants is to have the black cat become a snack for his griffon. He finds her resting upon a bed of stray her large head resting on her front legs.
After making sure she is cared for Laucian steps outside Onyx in tow.
As he is walking he sees many more elves gather where the rainbow bridge is to appear. He wonders just who might come to see the sylvian realm. Old friends, family and new acquaintances. His thoughts linger on his father, as well as, Nariya whom he has not seen in some time.
A voice calls him from his thoughts as he recognizes the voice. His amber eyes look out across the growing crowd and sees the red haired and amber eyed elf, Gweyr approach,
“For it being such a joyous day,” Gweyr inquires, “why do you look so sad?”
“Who says that I am sad?” he says defensively. “Merely lost in thought.”he says with a slight smile as he recalls the conversation with the fire mage. “Besides how can one be sad with you around?”he says back casually.
“Is there anyone you are looking for to come from the elfholds?”he asks curiously.
After a thought he brings the red headed mage up to speed with Myev. “Perhaps you would care to see?”he asks curiously.

"Hmm..." Kylie ponders Lilia's reply. "That's interesting. I've always felt just slightly different with Alteration spells than others; more ... attuned to the magical energy, is the best way I can put it. I guess I just assumed that other specialists had a similar experience. Must just be me."
Lilia wrote:“Presumably they will send a force large enough to recapture their ship,” Lilia states. “So it seems to be that we will either face a small, covert force that will simply try to steal the Sunflower, or a full assault which could include multiple vessels. Kylie nods her understanding as she listens to the elven queen, but doesn't have anything to add. Lilia and Lia continue to discuss as Kylie departs for the Sunflower.

Reaching the ship, Kylie makes sure that the gangplank is extended so that Dapple can join her on the ship. She then goes in search of Talen, checking first the galley, and then his room. Once she finds him, she greets him in a friendly tone. "Good morning, Talen! Can I ask a favor of you? Mom and I are taking Argent back to Cynalon today. We should be back in before the Rainbow Bridge opens, but in case we're delayed, I was wondering if I could leave Dapple in your care?"

Once that conversation is done, she will seek out Argent next. "Good morning, Argent! Have you seen my mother yet?

"I stopped by Mother Tree on my way here, and saw the cocoon that she made for Myev. Unfortunately, she hasn't emerged yet. Onas assured me that he had been there all night and there had been no sign of any problems. I'm sorry that I cannot give you any greater assurances of Myev's well-being than that."

“At least the cocoon part was true,” Argent says in relief. “That was a pretty fantastical tale that was a bit hard to believe. Maybe she really is hatching into an elf? I've seen some strange things, but that might be the strangest of them all.”

“So it's been about 7 weeks since I was last back at Karn's Keep,” Argent adds. “I wonder what kind of strange things have gone on while I was away? I haven't seen Jallarzi since she dropped me off at Gateway when I joined the Company of the Sword. I wonder what Kharyna has been up to? I probably missed so much stuff!”

Argent is more than ready to go when Kylie's mom finally does arrive. She's teleported before, so knows that they only need to make contact with the once casting the spell. Allurien places her free hand on Kylie's shoulder while I hold her hand. The spell is cast and we vanish from the Sunflower!

Onas shrugs with a somewhat helpless expression. "Yes, I think a lot of people were hoping that she would have emerged by now. But, like you say, no choice but to wait."
Kylie wrote:"Good day, Onas." Kylie turns to the others remaining in the Heart. "I must go as well. I promised to take Argent back to her home in Cynallon." Stepping outside, she takes to the air once again, heading back to the Sunflower.
"Have a good trip, Kylie." Watching as she leaves, Onas shakes his head as she flies away under her own power. It may take him a while to get used to her flying without any need to cast a spell. He has never met or even heard of anyone with a similar ability, but it seems like it would be quite useful in many circumstances.

Onas listens to some of the discussion regarding the attack on the flying ship that is coming in 8 days. As a warrior himself, he has great interest in the strategies they will use in defense. However, other things are more pressing on his mind, so he stays quiet.

After departing the Heart, Onas goes looking for Sheeryl or one of the other elders or historians, getting occasional guidance from others as he searches. Eventually, he stumbles upon Sheeryl sitting and relaxing on a bench. He hesitates for a moment, then gathers his courage and steps forward.

"Priestess Soulsearcher? May I ask you a few questions?" If she assents, Onas will continue. "As you might know, Queen Lilliathelionn has asked me to organize and lead a troop of Forest Riders. I'm honored by the responsibility, yet I have very little knowledge of the history, organization, or traditions of this particular military force. Do you happen to know if there are any good resources - either written or living here in the Sylvan Realm - that I might be able to access in order to increase my knowledge and understanding? Before the Rainbow:

Many pass the time in conversation while waiting for the Rainbow Bridge to arrive. Laucian has been approached by Gweyr Autumnfire.
Laucian wrote:“Who says that I am sad?” he says defensively. “Merely lost in thought.” he says with a slight smile as he recalls the conversation with the fire mage. “Besides how can one be sad with you around?”he says back casually.
“Deep in thought then”, Gweyr corrects herself and settles in beside Laucian. With a smirk she adds, “I do tend to brighten the room as I burn it down.”
Laucian wrote:“Is there anyone you are looking for to come from the Elfholds?” he asks curiously.
“Not really,” Gweyr admits. “I might see someone I know from my clan, but I doubt it. You know how we Long Runners are. But then again, there might be some who wish to reclaim our clan hold and the mage school I hear resides nearby. I think I would like to see that.”
Laucian wrote:After a thought he brings the red headed mage up to speed with Myev. “Perhaps you would care to see?”he asks curiously.
“I'd be glad too,” Gweyr says offering her hand. “As they always say, if you want to get the attention of a Long Runner, try magic!”

Together the two make their way to the Heart of the Tree.

Elsewhere, Onas has located Sheeryl Soulsearcher sitting on a bench meditating. The Seeress is average height for an elf. She wears the traditional robes of her order, silver and white in color. Sheeryl has long brown hair and matching eyes.
Onas wrote:"Priestess Soulsearcher? May I ask you a few questions?" If she assents, Onas will continue. "As you might know, Queen Lilliathelionn has asked me to organize and lead a troop of Forest Riders. I'm honored by the responsibility, yet I have very little knowledge of the history, organization, or traditions of this particular military force. Do you happen to know if there are any good resources - either written or living here in the Sylvan Realm - that I might be able to access in order to increase my knowledge and understanding? It is very important to me that I execute these responsibilities to the best of my capability, and not disappoint the Queen."
“Pleasant morning, Onas Brightsword,” Sheeryl easily states. “I would assume that such information exists somewhere. Perhaps in records of your own clan, Red Arrow. However, based on what you told me so far, I think that you are not asking the right question. You want someone to tell you what a Forest Rider is and isn't. I think that you should be asking is what is a Forest Rider to you. What do you think a Forest Rider should be and what is there role in the Sylvan Realm. Perhaps if you follow that path you may find the illumination you seek.”

Down in the Heart of the Tree, Allurien Feador comes across Valena Feador.
Valena wrote:Well met, Allurien Feador,” Valena says in greeting. “While I did not see this for myself, they tell me that this is Myev. As for Kylie, you just missed her. She flew off towards the Sunflower.”
Allurien sighs and will then say, “Thank you, clanswoman.” Allurien then casts Fly on herself and takes off towards the Sunflower.

Laucian and Gweyr arrive at the Heart of the Tree a few moments after that.

“That is something to behold,” Gweyr says as she takes in Myev's cocoon. “Will she emerge as a beautiful butterfly from an ugly caterpillar or something else entirely?”

Down on the Sunflower, Allurien finally catches up to Kylie in the stateroom Argent had been using. Allurien takes up the picture of Karn's Keep that Sherwood had given Kylie and begins to study it. Once she is comfortable with your arrival point, Allurien puts her free hand on Kylie's shoulder, while Kylie and Argent hold hands. Allurien then speaks the word to the Teleport spell and all three vanish from the Sunflower.

The Rainbow Bridge Opens:

More and more elves gather as the sun inches closer and closer to being directly overhead. Plenty of room is given as everyone is unsure just how many new arrivals there are going to be. Finally, it happens! A rainbow streaks across the sky from the southeast and strikes the crystal platform's roof. A bright light fills the area underneath the roof and elves start to emerge!

A unit of armored elves riding elfin horses are the first to emerge. The leader of this group, the very first elf to emerge wears plate mail while those under his command were chain mail. Both Arlen and Onas Brightsword recognize this particular elf as he is also from Clan Red Arrow. He is Argus Bloodmoon, a very skilled and competent military commander. The last the Brightswords knew Argus was the commander of the Red Arrow Warband called the Westguard back in the Elfholds.

Seeing that there is no danger present, the armored elves, move off to either side providing an honor guard for the rest of the new arrivals. There are around thirty mounted elves in chain mail. Each carries a longsword and a longbow. Argus looks around and spots the familiar faces of Arlen and Onas. With a grin he approaches the pair.

“Well met, clansmen!” Argus calls out. “Can you point me in the direction of King Chandra? We have arrived to enlarge his army.”

More and more elves begin to file out from the glowing crystal platform. Most look like ordinary elves, perhaps they are coming home to the Sylvan Realm. Many carry there belongings while others are bearing supplies. There is one elf that does stand out dramatically from the pack. He's tall for an elf, around 5'6” in height. But what is most remarkable is that he is dazzlingly handsome with shoulder length platinum blonde hair. His eyes are bright blue and his style of dress, while unmistakably elvish, is of very high quality. He looks around approvingly, but keeps to himself as he moves out of the way.

Laucian spots Clan Elder Arloen Treelife emerging from the Rainbow Bridge. He is the Clan Elder that the Chosen met first in Alfhiem when they went to visit the Elf King at the start of the Elfquest, and then later on at the Grunalf Clan Hold in the Elfholds, Ainsun. But the Clan Elder is not alone as he holds the reigns of Starfire! Spotting Laucian, Elder Treelife approaches.

“I thought I would see our homeland and our ancient clan hold before I pass on,” Elder Treelife says to Laucian. “More importantly, your friend here missed you very much.” Elder Treelife hands Laucian the reigns to Starfire.

Unexpectedly a raven flies in among the crowd of elves and circles overhead for a few moments. Then the black bird swoops down and lands near Valena. As the bird lands, its shape begins to change form and a full male elf now stands in its place. This shape shifter wears the colors and holy symbol of Ehlonna!

“Hail, forest sister,” the elf states in greeting. “I am Klovar Windrunner. I have been directed by the Lady of the Forest to tend to her shrine here in the Sylvan Realm. Have you seen it?”

Still more and more elves emerge from the Rainbow Bridge. They number in the hundreds now. Another familiar elf is seen. It is King Doriath of the Elfholds along with several other elves that must surely being his personal guard. The Elfin King spots Lilia and moves towards her.

“You and your companions have done well, Queen Lilliathelionn,” King Doriath complements. “The Mother Tree endures and for that you have our undying gratitude. To breath the air of the Sylvan Realm is a most joyous gift. To show our thanks, nearly 1300 elves from the Elfholds have made this journey today. Many will go forth to reclaim their clan holds, while others will bolster the security of this holy place. Today, regular travel between the Elfholds and the Sylvan Realm resumes!”

And behind the elfin king more elves emerge and find themselves a top the Mother Tree in the Sylvan Realm...

GM Notes:

This is just the first batch of new arrivals! There are many elves that are bringing in supplies who will go back over the Rainbow Bridge back to the Elfholds. Likewise the Elfholds Clan Leaders are all here to see what is going on, but will not be staying. There are a few Clan Elders among the new arrivals and even some children. There should be a few familiar faces for most.

When we restarted this game, we were without Nariya's player. I decided to simply ignore the character as what typically would happen in this kind of situation is that the character would have simply been forgotten by me and just slipped through the cracks. Granted this was the way I did things back during the Q link days where, at least at the beginning, players were a dime a dozen. But I am wondering if that was a mistake and I should have been using Nariya, at least as an NPC. What do you guys think?

You're no longer alone!

Now what?

As I have read your Qlink pages I know your policy back in the day regarding players that phased or disappeared. I have been playing Laucian, as missing her and thinking of her often. Considering she left around the time of the great orc hunt where Lia was attacked. I was playing her as she was lost, dead or captured.
Given Laucian’s relationship/ interest in Nariya it only seemed right to treat the situation as such as I did with Lyonessa( the players other character). As for bringing her back as an npc, I am for it but it is really up to you.

Kylie Lanthorn of Clan Feador:
Valena wrote:“Safe journeys, Kylie of Clan Feador,” Valena says formally to her clanswoman.
"Thank you, Valena. I hope to see you all again soon," Kylie replies with a wave.

===
Talen wrote:“Well, when you put it that way, I guess you're right.”
Kylie gives Talen a quick hug. It's hard to resist a man who admits that she's right!

===
Talen wrote:“I can do that,” Talen will say to Kylie. “Provided he lets me that is. Have a safe trip and see you soon.”
"Thank you, Talen. Having someone to look after will help him keep out of trouble. He's still mostly a puppy."

Kylie turns and kneels down in front of the seated cooshie. "Dapple, I have to go away for a little while. I want you to keep an eye on Talen here for me while I'm gone. Can you do that for me?"

Dapple stands up, moves next to Talen, and then sits again. "Rouf! Rouf!" he says, enthusiastically. Kylie stands back up, turns, and smiles at them both. "Good boy! I'll see you both soon."

===
Argent wrote:“Hi,” Argent calls out with a grin. “No, I figured you'd come here together?”
Kylie smiles reflexively. "I needed to swing by the Heart to check on Myev, so I figured I would just meet you both here." Kylie pauses a second in thought. "I suppose I should have let Mom know what I was doing. I've been more-or-less on my own for so long, that I guess I'm not really used to dealing with a parent any more."
Argent wrote:“At least the cocoon part was true,” Argent says in relief. “That was a pretty fantastical tale that was a bit hard to believe. Maybe she really is hatching into an elf? I've seen some strange things, but that might be the strangest of them all.”
"I get what you mean, Argent," Kylie replies. "After seeing Lia transformed from a half-elf like Talen and I into a drow, I guess this doesn't seem as weird to me as it would have otherwise. As long as it was what she wanted, and it sounds like it was, then I'm happy for her."
Argent wrote:“So it's been about 7 weeks since I was last back at Karn's Keep,” Argent adds. “I wonder what kind of strange things have gone on while I was away? I haven't seen Jallarzi since she dropped me off at Gateway when I joined the Company of the Sword. I wonder what Kharyna has been up to? I probably missed so much stuff!”
Kylie frowns, thinking about Argent's comment. "You know, I hadn't really considered that. It's been about 4 to 5 weeks for me - I think - and I suppose a lot may have happened in that time. I guess we'll see what happens when we get there."

Moments later, Allurien shows up. "Good, you made it, Mom. Here's the teleport location." She fishes the book Sherwood gave her out of her enchanted Girdle and hands it to her mother. Moments later, the spell is cast and the new journey begins.

I pretty much agree with Dave. I've been playing Kylie as missing Nariya, as she was an important member of their group. Kylie's relationship with her wasn't as personal as Laucian's was, but they did have a camaraderie that was interupted by her sudden disappearance. However, Ken, you know the player better than I do, and can better judge how she might feel about her character being used as an NPC.

We really can't go by what I did back on Q-Link. Computerwise, its a whole different world now. When something left Q, they were gone. You had no way to contact them any more. This was before there really was Email. Back then you could only mail their account name, much like here on the forum. In a sense they ceased to be and so did many of their characters. And there was so many players around, at least at first, that it was easy to add new players. That's a luxury that I no longer have.

Truth be told, I forgot the exact circumstances what here Nariya was left at, at least far as her last post went. I think my first instinct was correct. The player is not here, so neither is the character. But if she should return then the door is open for the character to return.

Actually, I probably don't know the player particularly well. My guess is that Dave knew her better, and Scott most definitely did as he knew her in person back then. But yeah, I have no great insight into the character or player. I had gotten curious since Nariya was being mentioned and pretty much forgot where she had been left out. Like I said above, I'm content to continue on with how things are now.

Onas Brightsword:
Sheeryl wrote:“Pleasant morning, Onas Brightsword,” Sheeryl easily states.
Onas listens closely to the elder, though her words cause him to silently groan. While he doesn't dispute her words, they do nothing to help him with the questions he has struggled with since Queen Lilia had placed this responsibility on his shoulders. "Thank you, Priestess. I will give thought to your advice." Perhaps clan Red Arrow is at least a place to start, Onas thinks as he turns to leave. No doubt, some of his clan will come through the Rainbow Bridge. And the clan home may have records of value to review.

It's not that he's opposed to forging a new path, but it would be very helpful to know what others may expect. If he is going to deviate from established practice, knowing what objections traditionalists may raise will help him prepare to address those objections. Similarly, others of much greater experience than he have certainly given much thought to the nature of the Forest Riders. No doubt there is much that he can learn and benefit from in building the group here.

===

As the time for the opening of the Bridge approaches, Onas locates his brother and joins him, exchanging a bit of small talk as they wait. It has been years since he has witnessed the opening of the Rainbow Bridge, and this time is different as it is an arrival rather than a departure. Arlen spots the rainbow approaching before Onas and points it out. He stands transfixed as the Bridge opens in a blaze of multicolored light.

First to emerge is Argus Bloodmoon, leading a unit of mounted warriors, which brings a grin to Onas' face. Showers of light reflect off their gleaming armor as they move aside to allow those behind to emerge. Onas and his brother have known Argus for years, and wave as the famed warrior approaches.
Argus wrote:“Well met, clansmen!” Argus calls out. “Can you point me in the direction of King Chandra? We have arrived to enlarge his army.”
"Well met, Argus!" Onas replies, though his smile quickly fades. "Chandra's dead, I'm sorry to say."

Out of the corner of his eye, Onas spots another well-known countenance emerging. None other than King Doriath has made the trip. As is fitting, he moves to speak with Queen Lilia.

Looking back to Argus, Onas mentions the King's arrival. "I see King Doriath has come to help us celebrate the re-establishment of the Sylvan Realm. I know it has been some years, but it seems only yesterday that we first departed the Elfholds."

Laucian
“Deep in thought then”, Gweyr corrects herself and settles in beside Laucian. With a smirk she adds, “I do tend to brighten the room as I burn it down.”
“Remind me to leave when that begins.”he says evenly as a small smirk begins to play about his features.
“Not really,” Gweyr admits. “I might see someone I know from my clan, but I doubt it. You know how we Long Runners are. But then again, there might be some who wish to reclaim our clan hold and the mage school I hear resides nearby. I think I would like to see that.””
“Here’s to old acquaintances and new.” He says looking out amongst those gathered. “There are some of my clan that I would wish to see.” He says thinking of the members of his clergy.
Soon enough they are at the heart of the Mother tree. The wooden cocoon comes into view as Laucian looks upon it in some awe, realizing what the mother tree offered and was expected. He looks briefly at Gweyr, “Here she lies.”
“That is something to behold,” Gweyr says as she takes in Myev's cocoon. “Will she emerge as a beautiful butterfly from an ugly caterpillar or something else entirely?”
“That is only for the gods to know.”he says stoicly. “There was a time I would have killed her without a second’s hesitation. In truth, I probably should have for what she was .Thankfully, I did not for I would have killed one an elf. My time in the Lost Valley opened my eyes. Lia and Talen taught me much of tolerance, it was an area I was found wanting.” He chuckles softly, “With experience comes wisdom.” He says evenly looking at the cocoon.
-------
Laucian watches the sky as the time of the rainbow bridge draws near. A streak of colors etches and archs it’s way across the sky and flows into the crystal letting out a brilliant light and next thing he knows is elves begin to emerge.
Laucian walks towards the front of those gathered as armoured elves upon horse back emerge the light reflecting of their armor. He hears one call a greeting to Onas and Arlen.
“Well met, clansmen!” Argus calls out. “Can you point me in the direction of King Chandra? We have arrived to enlarge his army.”
"Well met, Argus!" Onas replies, though his smile quickly fades. "Chandra's dead, I'm sorry to say."

“Subtlety is not one of your strong points it would seem, Onas.” He says evenly to the armoured elf, “That honour Chandra never received. Queen Lilliathelionn was voted our queen” he says evenly as he points Lilia out in turn. “It is as Onas said, Chandra fell in battle.” He states evenly resisting the urge to say more.
Seeing a familiar face emerge from the rainbow bridge Laucian quickly excuses himself.
Laucian looks at the Clan Elder with a smile upon his face. “Greeting Clan Elder! It is good to see you. How was your crossing?” He asks curiously wondering what the rainbow bridge feels like. In that moment he sees the black stallion with a white starburst upon it’s brow begin to paw the ground excitedly as Laucian’s smiles grows wider, “Starfire!” he calls out as he takes the reigns on his long lost mount. He gently places his hands on the horse’s neck and places his head against his nose. “It is good to see you old friend. I trust Elder Treelife gave you plenty of apples and carrots?”he says looking to the clan elder. Looking back at his Clan Elder, “I am in your debt, I trust he was not too much trouble?”
“Is it not beautiful to behold? There has bee much that has happened since we saved the mother tree yet so much more to do. I, too wish to see our clan holds reclaimed as our Queen’s palace. Speaking of her, Liliathelion ascended to the position of Queen. I was asked to be our clan leader though I declined the honor.”he says simply. “for another pursuit.”
“Perhaps you would like to see realm by the back of a Golden Gryphon?”he asks curiously.

Lilia:
Kylie wrote:"Hmm..." Kylie ponders Lilia's reply. "That's interesting. I've always felt just slightly different with Alteration spells than others; more … attuned to the magical energy, is the best way I can put it. I guess I just assumed that other specialists had a similar experience. Must just be me."
“Sadly, while I used to crave magical power, I never really paid much attention to the actual act of casting spells,” Lilia notes. “Perhaps this feeling you get is more in line with the joy you get from casting spells?”
Lia wrote:“Plan for the worst, expect the best.” She says sagely. “As Nightmist has taught me.”
“Your grandmother is a wise woman,” Lilia will agree.
Lia wrote:“I know now is probably not the best time to do so. But I wish to speak with the our tree keepers. I wish to look and possibly rebuild the Darksong Knights. Most here do not like a drow about them, perhaps with the unit rebuilt, trust can be built and tensions for our people would be less.”
“As we have discussed before, the elfin hatred for drow is not without merit,” Lilia notes. “Alas I feel that acceptance for yourself is a first step. Trust will take much longer to gain.”
:ia wrote:“Do you think we should liberate the Palace before we plan for the Trading company?” She asks curiously.
“Yes,” Lilia will say decisively. “In fact, my plan is to go there as soon as we are able. Golden Peak is fine given just how few of us are here, but should hundreds of elves arrive tomorrow, then it will not be big enough. We'll need to expand and reclaiming the Elfin Palace just a part of this. As I understand it it was there that the Darksong Knights had their base of operations. Liberating the palace is a lynch pin in my plans, a first step that will open up other opportunities.”

Finally the time comes and the Rainbow Bridge arrives! Lilia takes a deep breath as she fights the butterflies in her stomach. She is hopefully that there will be enough elves to start the restoration of the Sylvan Realm. Lilia, and those with her are content to keep a safe distance. After all, we really have no idea just who is coming through.

Much to Lilia's surprise, armored elves on horseback are the first to emerge. The leader of this unit has a military look to him. Clan Red Arrow, Lilia would have to guess. Her speculation seems accurate as the rider approaches the Brightsword brothers also of Clan Red Arrow. They speak, but are too far away to hear clearly.

More and more elves file out of the Rainbow Bridge. Some of the looks of those seeking to move here, while others are bearing supplies that they set down off to the side. They then wait for the stream of arrivals to settle down before going back over the Rainbow Bridge. An unusually handsome elf arrives with platinum blonde hair but he is quickly lost from sight with all the incoming elves.

Lilia spots a familiar horse, Laucian's mount named Starfire. Then she realizes that the Grunalf Clan Elder Treelife is arriving with the horse. Seeing Laucian, the elder returns the horse to his proper master. Lilia makes a mental note to speak to the Clan Elder when able.

A black bird, a raven, flies in and circles overhead for a time. It then flies down and lands elsewhere among the crowd. Lilia cannot see where.
Still more and more elves emerge from the Rainbow Bridge. They number in the hundreds now. Another familiar elf is seen. It is King Doriath of the Elfholds along with several other elves that must surely being his personal guard. The Elfin King spots Lilia and moves towards her.
Much to Lilia's surprise, King Doriath has made the journey to the Sylvan Realm! His personal guard must have accompanied him.
King Doriath wrote:“You and your companions have done well, Queen Lilliathelionn,” King Doriath complements. “The Mother Tree endures and for that you have our undying gratitude. To breath the air of the Sylvan Realm is a most joyous gift.”
“You honor me and my companions,” Lilia graciously states. “We all played a significant role in the restoration of the Mother Tree. We have accomplished much, but there is still so much more to do.”
King Doriath wrote:“To show our thanks, nearly 1300 elves from the Elfholds have made this journey today. Many will go forth to reclaim their clan holds, while others will bolster the security of this holy place. Today, regular travel between the Elfholds and the Sylvan Realm resumes!”
“Thirteen hundred elves?” Lilia repeats in shock. “That is far beyond my wildest hopes! We will need to spread out from Golden Peak. There will not be enough room for all here. The town of Feadiel is located at the base of the Mother Tree. Those who plan on staying will need to move down there for today.”

“It seems that a whole new set of challenges have arisen given just how many elves have returned to the Sylvan Realm,” Lilia concludes.
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

“You are most welcome, Clan Master,” Valena responds as Allurien departs.
Laucian and Gweyr arrive at the Heart of the Tree a few moments after that.

“That is something to behold,” Gweyr says as she takes in Myev's cocoon. “Will she emerge as a beautiful butterfly from an ugly caterpillar or something else entirely?”
Not long after that Laucian and Gweyr arrive at the Heart of the Tree. Seeing that relief has arrived, Valena will also depart so that she can prepare for the arrival of the Rainbow Bridge. She doesn't see any need to have River Blossom present. There is going to be enough chaos as it is, so have a unicorn there as well?

When the time comes, Valena stands off to the side with her other Silver Maidens. The bridge opens and elves start to come forth! First are armored riders on elfin horses.

“That should please Onas,' Valena thinks to herself.

A most handsome elf with platinum blond hair is spotted among the new arrivals. “Who is that?” Valena wonders.
Unexpectedly a raven flies in among the crowd of elves and circles overhead for a few moments. Then the black bird swoops down and lands near Valena. If Valena was surprised to see a raven fly in among the new arrivals, then she is stunned when it lands before her and transforms into an elf!
“Hail, forest sister,” the elf states in greeting. “I am Klovar Windrunner. I have been directed by the Lady of the Forest to tend to her shrine here in the Sylvan Realm. Have you seen it?”
“Well met, Klovar Windrunner,” Valena says in greeting to a fellow follower of the Lady of the Forests. “Yes I have seen the Ladies Shrine with my own eyes. What kind of priest can change forms like that?”

“Who's as big as a horse,” Talen thinks to himself.

“Bye!” Talen calls out as Kylie leaves. He then looks down at Dapple cautiously. None of the cooshee's really paid any attention to him and Lia before. Talen figured that they could sense the drow part of them and that's what kept them away.

“So,” Talen says to the Dapple, “here we are. Are you going to behave for me? Please?”

Talen decides to stay on the Sunflower when the Rainbow Bridge arrives. He wouldn't know what to do up there anyway, other than tower over all the elves.

"Hmm... Maybe." Kylie struggles to figure out how to explain it. "I think it's kind of like how some people respond to a particular color or specific music - or that feeling we experienced in the Elfholds. Something about it just... 'speaks' to them, almost feels like part of them. Alteration magic is like that for me - almost like part of who I am. I'm not sure I would feel like 'me' if I lost that. I don't know how else to describe it." Kylie shrugs, not knowing what else to say.

“As we have discussed before, the elfin hatred for drow is not without merit,” Lilia notes. “Alas I feel that acceptance for yourself is a first step. Trust will take much longer to gain.”
Lia looks down for a moment, her lavender eyes thoughtful as she looks up at Lilia. “I have found in such a short time, that the only acceptance I need are the ones that I already have. “ she says a growing smile etching it’s way across her ebony skin. “Friends and family. The rest I know will come in time.”

Lia watches from beneath her cowl as the light begins to change and the rainbow bridge etches across the sky.
Many elves come across the rainbow bridge starting with armored mounted elves then those who whom know Laucian. She watches a bird fly from the bridge and land where she does not know. She looks at the gathered elves as her left hand rests on the u of her blade.
Lia will look on but not interact at the moment. She is content watching the elves see their new home.
