Sylvan Realm #16 (#60)

December 2nd, CR 571 or Deepnight 24th, 20,519 AP

After several days of exciting events, the elves are having a leisurely afternoon. The main excitement is exploring the Sunflower and preparing defenses against teleportation. Other conversations are taking place as well.
Kylie wrote:Kylie nods thoughtfully. "As a half-elf, my lifespan will likely be a fair bit longer than that of a human, but still vastly shorter than a full elf. As I understand it, halflings have a similar lifespan to half-elves, and dwarves live around twice as long or so.

"Then again, I cannot imagine having kids already even though I'm well past that age by the standards of your race. I'm just a few years past puberty, and am still a child in the eyes of an elf." Kylie shrugs bemusedly. "I guess it's all just a matter of perspective."
“That it is.” Myev says with a sigh. Then she departs when the griffons return.

Laucian has run into Argent in the stateroom area and they converse as he moves things around to stop teleporting enemy mages. Most of the furniture is nailed to the floor, as would be fitting on a ocean going vessel. Ropes are added and weaved across the areas where furniture can't be moved into.

The first stateroom that Laucian goes into is the one across from the room Argent is using. The contents of the room is rather sparse. There is the bed that is secured to the floor, a wardrobe filled with male style clothing. There is a sea chest at the foot of the bed and a wooden cabinet beside the bed. The chest in the cabinet are locked. The bed does look like it has been slept in recently.

While Laucian works, Myev enters the room and gives him a puzzled look. (This is the room that Myev has been staying in and she's wondering what the elf is doing here.)

Elsewhere in the ship, Lia has come across Onas Brightsword on the same mission. They are in what an area of the ship that is guessed to be the quartermaster's office, the carpentry area, a room filled with spare rope, and another with barrels of some alcoholic beverage.

Onas takes his own look around the series of rooms. In the room with the barrels, he notes that the alcohol is brandy. Not only that, but his acute elfin senses realize that there is a concealed door in that same room! The door is on the aft wall near the outside of the ship.

Down in the depths of the Sunflower, Kylie and her mother are also exploring...
Kylie wrote:"You may be right, mom," Kylie says, "though we also know them to be slavers. From what we've already seen, they certainly had quite a bit of stuff secreted behind locked doors and within locked chests. I don't think we can rule out the possibility of hidden compartments and important things hidden among mundane items. We'll have to keep our eyes peeled for anything unexpected. Of course, that's why we're perfect for this job - right, mom?" she asks with a lopsided grin.
“That we are,” Allurien agrees. “But most likely hidden areas and locked chests will be in more private areas of the ship, not in the common places any sailor could reach. These people might have been slavers, but I don't think that was their main line, but rather cargo of opportunity. If they were full out slavers, then all the cargo areas would be holding pens. Not just that one room in the back of the ship.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie laughs, surprised to actually know something that her mother doesn't. "That is called a 'Spell Engine', mom," she says. "It burns magical energy to allow the ship to fly as well as other functions. This ship has three of them installed, and a fourth in storage as a backup.

"Spell Engines can burn energy from either magical items or spells. Each engine has a set capacity to store magical energy, specific functions that it is able to perform, and a limit to how much power it can put into those functions. The most common functions seem to be: raising and lowering the ship, forward movement, and life support."
“That's amazing,” Allurien states somewhat in awe. “When it comes to magic, I'm more of a dabbler than a scholar. I've learned a handful of spells while adventuring that cover what I need, but I am sure that there are many spells unknown to me. That reminds me, if you can now cast new spells, the you might want to look at my book to fill in some new ones. Even learn Teleport for yourself.”

Having completed their exploration of the lowest deck of the ship, mother and daughter move up one deck. This deck is dominated by the common crew quarters that fills up the middle of the deck. Hammocks are hung every which way across this area, creating a maze of hammocks. Some clothes and miscellaneous belongings can be found here. It's also clear that most of the scro bunked here as well.

The chamber at the fore of this deck serves as the ships sickbay. Eight bunks protrude from the wall for patients to recover on. It looks like some of the scro slept here as well. There is also a desk present, a large cabinet, and book shelves line the north wall. The drawers on the desk are locked, as is the cabinet.

Several smaller rooms are located at the aft end of this deck. Two of these rooms hold the Spell Engines that were used to move the Sunflower to the Sylvan Realm. The contents of one room is equipment used to move heavy cargo that includes thick ropes and pulleys.

The other two rooms are armories. The first of these is filled with cutlasses in weapons racks with even more stored in crates on the back. There's at least 100 of the weapons. Some of the places in the racks where a weapon could be stored are now vacant.

The other armory actually holds armor. There are at least 50 medium shields present and there are ten trunks that each holds human sized chain mail shirts. The door to this room was broken into, most likely by the scro. Some of the chain mail shirts present look like ones worn by some of the scro you battled before.

“Nothing surprising down here,” Allurien notes. “Nothing out of the ordinary. Looks like we go up once more!”

Lilia:
Onas wrote:"Ah... yes. You are right of course, my Queen." The note of awe in Onas's voice to be speaking directly to the Queen of the Elves of the Sylvan Realm is audible. "Perhaps some of the elders will be able to tell me more of the Forest Rider history and lore. And other riders may soon arrive."
Lilia will look momentarily confused. “It was my understanding that Forest Riders were merely units of Elfin Light Cavalry,” Lilia states. “Perhaps among the Red Arrow clan they had a different designation?”
Onas wrote:"Yes, Queen Lilia. That seems like a sound plan. I will be happy to work with both Valena of the Silver Unicorns and Laucian of the Golden Griffons to coordinate our efforts." He's going to need to recruit an awful lot of Riders to achieve what the queen is suggesting...
“Very Good than,” Lilia agrees. “I do realize that more elves are needed. It is my hope that those back in the Elfholds know what we have succeeded and are now just waiting for the Rainbow Bridge to open up to have more elves and supplies crossover. Until then, we shall simply wait and guard the Mother Tree. Not much else we can do with such few numbers.”

Lilia sits back once more and takes a sip of water from her glass. Plans are starting to fall into place. The only sticking point is when the Rainbow Bridge will open once more. The Bridge appeared 9 days ago, but that was when the Mother Tree was restored. Lilia hoped that they won't have to wait 17 more days for back up.
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

Argent:
Laucian wrote:“We will make it as difficult as possible for them to visit it you. My people see to our friends.” he says evenly laying a chair down upon the floor.
“Thanks,” Argent easily answers. “I've met a few elves, but never this many before. It's kind of overwhelming.”
Laucian wrote:“Thank you, Argent.” Laucian will do his best to move furniture into the unadorned area. As he does so as efficient as he can. “What are you planning on doing with your new found freedom?” he asks curiously to the mage.
Argent considers what to say, momentarily casting her gaze to the floor before finding her words. “I'm going home,” Argent finally says. “Kylie said that her mom can Teleport us back to Karn's Keep. I can then report what happened to Lord Sharadin and from there go back to Crossroads to see my parents and my brother and sister. There were times I thought I never would see them again and I left them years ago in my pursuit to learn magic and haven't been back. I need to correct that mistake and recover from what I went through.”

Argent notes Myev's arrival and her confusion over Laucian being in her room. Argent moves closer to hear what is going on.

“I'm sure that he'll be perfectly polite as you are,” Valena easily states.

After Onas departs, Valena has a light lunch and will converse with those by her. Than she'll return to her patrols.

Myev wrote:“That it is.” Myev says with a sigh. Then she departs when the griffons return.
Kylie is not certain why Myev seems so sad, but decides not to pursue the conversation further as she doesn't want to upset her friend any more than she already is. Frowning, she turns away to find others arriving via the griffons.

"Point taken," Kylie replies. "I could see the possibility of the them hiding things in places where they spend a lot of time, such as the ship's carpenter hiding personal possessions in the workshop or the ship medic in the sickbay. "Really?! That would be wonderful, Mom! Thank you!" Kylie replies, excited by the prospect of adding new spells to her repertoire. She gives Allurien a big hug. "You're welcome to look at mine as well, if you want; I may have some good ones that you'll find useful."

It's not long before Kylie and her mother find themselves up on the next deck. Starting in the bow of the ship once again, they soon locate the sickbay. While the beds don't prove the be interesting, they soon find a desk and a cabinet that are both locked. "Ooooh, what have we here...?" Kylie coos, giving her mother a mischievous smile. "Want to try your hand at that cabinet, Mom, while I work on the desk?" Somehow, her lockpicking tools are already in her hand...

"As you say, my queen." Sensing that she has no further need of him at the moment, Onas bows once again and backs away before turning to join Laucian and the others going back to the ship.
Valena wrote:“I'm sure that he'll be perfectly polite as you are,” Valena easily states.
Onas encounters Valena once again after completing his conversation with the queen. She would like to meet Carad Orod, and he has promised that he will arrange it soon. "Indeed, he really is a fine fellow, though I cannot speak to him the way you can. I look forward to hearing what he has to say." Bowing to the beautiful leader of the Silver Unicorns, Onas turns to leave.

Lia wrote:“There is not much down this way. There are mostly work shops.” Lia says evenly as she sheathes her sword. Looking at the warrior before her. Perhaps she was quick to judge but it was well warranted. “ If they want the areas to be blocked so be it. Though there is more to do then just the cabins. If mages are to enter an area that would no be barred the cargo holds would be the areas in which I would look as well.
“There is also the matter of fully searching this ship. There maybe an area in which they may favor yet to be seen.”
Lia will begin helping moving furniture as she sees fit to do as the others were instructed.
Onas shrugs. "I'm no mage, so I cannot really say. The thinking seemed to be that someone teleporting needed to know the destination very well, and that the private cabins might be the places they would know best. Don't suppose it would hurt to overdo, though," he says with a grin. "Want to help?"

Lia's mention of searching the ship elicits a memory from when he was up on deck a few minutes ago. "I think Lady Kylie and her mother are conducting a thorough search of the ship now."

As he works, he moves from room to room. In one, he finds a sizeable collection of barrels. They are heavy, and make a bit of a sloshing noise when he tries to move one. Onas removes the lid from one of the barrels and finds a dark liquid. Wetting the tip of his finger, he allows himself a small taste. "Mmm... I think this is brandy," he says aloud. Looking over at Lia, he smiles. "Seems these slavers drank well. Or maybe this was another type of cargo? I don't know. Would you like to try it?" He waits a moment to see if Lia wants a taste, then replaces the lid.

As he turns to leave and move on to the next room, Onas suddenly becomes aware that something is odd about the room. It takes a moment to identify it, but he realizes that he is sensing a concealed door of some kind. He moves toward where he believes it to be, moving barrels out of the way as necessary to get there. "Lia?" he calls out, "Can you come help me with this?" Reaching the wall, he begins to search and feel for some way to open whatever is there.

“Home is where your heart is. Or so they say.” He says evenly enough. “Family is important there was a time when I was younger I looked for my father for a time to no avail. Be prepared for the worst, expect the best.” He says evenly. Within several moments, Myev enters the room he is working on and looks upon him quizzically.
First in Elvish then in orc, Laucian will look to Myev, “There is reason to believe a mage could teleport into our midst. We are to move the furniture into the open areas so that does not happen. I am sorry for disturbing you, if this was your room. We could use your help.”
Laucian will continue doing what he was asked to do.

“Whose to say we know the thoughts of others?” she says with a bit of mirth. “Aye, I’ll help.” She says evenly following the fighter.
Lia's mention of searching the ship elicits a memory from when he was up on deck a few minutes ago. "I think Lady Kylie and her mother are conducting a thorough search of the ship now."
“Good to know. Atleast we will have a better understanding of this ship. Most of what is here is carpentry and storage areas.” She says evenly.
“I’ll pass. We found a chest with a liquid that effects elves. I would rather not eat or drink anything from this ship incase it is tainted with that vile substance.”She says as he crosses her arms before her looking at the liquid.
"Lia?" he calls out, "Can you come help me with this?" Reaching the wall, he begins to search and feel for some way to open whatever is there.
“Onas?”she calls back as she looks at more woodworking tools. “Yea be right there.”she says as she moves to area he is in. “It’s a wall.” Perhaps the fighter knows something she does not. Seeing Onas looking about the wall. Lia will do the same pushing on the wall in various places.

Post Continued:

The exploration of the Sunflower continues. In the fore area of the ship off the main deck, Onas has encountered Lia who was also looking around. A formerly locked room was found holding tuns of brandy. A few of the barrels were already open, suggesting the scro sampled the brandy and found it not to their liking. One tun was smashed on the floor with its contents staining the wood. The liquor has long since dried up from when the incident took place.

In the back of the room near the outer hull Onas spots what he believes to be a hidden door. He calls out for Lia for assistance and she comes to help. The help turns out not to be needed. A lone tun is moved to gain access to the area. A loose hook is discovered and a secret door swings open with a slight creak when the hook is pulled down.

The door opens towards the elf and drow revealing a small closet. No one is inside the closet. The only thing present is a wine rack attached to the back wall, opposite from the door. At first glace there seems to be around 30 bottles of wine in the rack, but there are places for at least twice that many.

One deck down, and in the aft of the ship, Laucian is working to secure the staterooms where the officers of the Sunflower bunked. Argent claimed one of the bunks, while Myev used another. The scro entered her room and was surprised to find Laucian present.
Laucian wrote:First in Elvish then in orc, Laucian will look to Myev, “There is reason to believe a mage could teleport into our midst. We are to move the furniture into the open areas so that does not happen. I am sorry for disturbing you, if this was your room. We could use your help.”
Not really understanding what Laucian is talking about, Myev, nonetheless, agrees. “If you think this will protect us, then I agree it needs to be done.” Myev notices Argent nearby and will flash a small smile to her.

Laucian finishes up with Myev's room and moves on to the next one. The next cabin also seems to have been inhabited by a male based on the type of clothing in the wardrobe. It looks the other scro poked around in here sometime in the past, making a bit of a mess. The footlocker as the front of the bed was bashed in and is now empty.

The room after that one is about the same as the ones before it. The occupant was male. His chest was bashed in as well. However, there is a stand with a washing basin on top of it. Behind the stand, hanging on the wall, is a large mirror polished silver mirror that looks like it might have some value.

Voices draw Laucian back out into the hallway. There, Elora has arrived and is conversing with Myev. The historian tells Myev that Lilia sent her to record information about the elves the scro wiped out on Dreatar. These seems to excite Myev and she goes to retrieve what papers she managed to save. Elora follows the scro into the room.

One more deck down, Kylie and Allurien are taking an in depth look around.
Kylie wrote:"Point taken," Kylie replies. Master Rat always encouraged me to not make too many assumptions, so I tend to look everywhere if I'm not in a hurry."
“That makes sense as well,” Allurien agrees. “Admittedly, I tend to use my thieving abilities more as a scout than a criminal. The skills are just too useful as an adventurer.”
Kylie wrote:"Really?! That would be wonderful, Mom! Thank you!" Kylie replies, excited by the prospect of adding new spells to her repertoire. She gives Allurien a big hug. "You're welcome to look at mine as well, if you want; I may have some good ones that you'll find useful."
“Uhm, sure,” Allurien says, a bit surprised by Kylie's reaction. Perhaps magic is more important to her? “I may very well find some new spells too.”

Kylie starts to work on the lock to the desk, while Allurien glances that way with a amused look on her face. “I'd say you're enjoying this,” Allurien notes as she produces her own set of picks.

Kylie gets the desk drawer open first. Inside are some blank papers, several quills and two inkwells. A leather bound book is present as well. Kylie opens the book to a random page and finds that its a log book of some kind. There are what looks like dates followed by entries, but cannot make much else out about the unknown language.

Allurien takes a little longer, but gets the cabinet opened. There are jars and vials inside the cabinet, presumably holding items with some medicinal use. A scroll case is noted.

GM Notes:

If you've seen any pirate movie, you'll have noted that they are big on rum. More sophisticated crews have brandy on their ships. Each crew members is given a shot of it per day for 'moral'. The higher ups in the crew kept the wine hidden in the closet. The closet would be room #14 in the Sunflower map. It's the dark square between #7 and #13.

Laucian was in rooms #25 (Myev's room) #26 and #30. The sickbay is room #32.

Now what?

Allurien wrote:“That makes sense as well,” Allurien agrees. “Admittedly, I tend to use my thieving abilities more as a scout than a criminal. The skills are just too useful as an adventurer.”
"That's very true! I've used mine quite a bit since Sherwood... uhm... recruited me." Kylie pauses, thinking back to her early days after her dad's injury. His pension from the city watch was barely enough to eat, much less provide for any living expenses such as clothing or medical treatment. "It was... different... back in Dog Alley."
Allurien wrote:“Uhm, sure,” Allurien says, a bit surprised by Kylie's reaction. Perhaps magic is more important to her? “I may very well find some new spells too.”
Kylie can hear the tone in her mother's voice. "I know this sounds weird, but I really enjoy learning new spells. It just seems exciting somehow, as though I were peeking behind the curtain of how the world works. Like you, I really only use from a fairly narrow set of spells, though occasionally I'll have a use for one of the more esoteric ones. Learning new skills is fun too, though not as exciting as magic."

Allurien wrote:Kylie starts to work on the lock to the desk, while Allurien glances that way with a amused look on her face. “I'd say you're enjoying this,” Allurien notes as she produces her own set of picks.
Not looking away from the lock, Kylie's smile widens. "It's a very exciting challenge! I like to imagine it as a duel of wits with the lock maker. My cleverness at getting in versus their determination to keep me out. Attack versus defense. I suppose it's a little like combat that way..."

Just then, the tumblers give way and the lock turns. Kylie slides the drawer out, then looks into the space behind as well as at the underside of the drawer to see if there is anything hidden, just the way Rat taught her. Lastly, she reviews the contents of the drawer itself. Blank paper, quills and ink are set aside. However, the book bound in leather is more interesting; she flips through several pages randomly. Clearly not a diary or manual of any kind. Instead, arrangement of words and what Kylie suspects are dates makes it appear to be a log of some kind. Unfortunately, the language is entirely unknown to her.

Having heard the cabinet behind her creak open, Kylie turns to see that her mother has succeeded with the other lock. Her first guess is that the vials and jars inside are medicinal, though a more sinister idea occurs to her as well. "Good job, Mom," she says. "Do you recognize any of those? I wonder if any of those were used to make the strange potions for controlling elves that we found earlier..." Her eyes shift to the scroll case. "What's that?" she asks, pointing.

Kylie shows the log book to her mother. "I'm not familiar with this language; do you recognize it?"

Argent pays attention to the elves interaction with Myev, but it seems harmless enough. Myev smiles when she sees Argent. In return Argent will nod back in understanding.

A little after that, Argent sees yet another elf approaching Myev. Mildly concerned about what is going to happen, Argent listens to them talk, her earrings translating their speech into common. It seems the elf is an historian and Myev has information about elves from far away.

“Maybe she'll fit in here,” Argent thinks to herself. She's feeling a bit guilty about just leaving, but Crossroads would be just as difficult. At least Myev seems to like elves, so this Sylvan Realm might be a better place for her.

Not long after that, Argent makes her way to the kitchen and will start to work on today's meal.

Onas Brightsword:
Lilia wrote:“Oh,” Lilia says in mild surprise. “Forgive me then, for I simply assumed. The elfin military or any military for that matter was never my field of study. At any rate, as I stated before, you are far more knowledgeable on the subject than anyone else as far as I know. You'll do fine.”
Onas feels a bit awkward at the thought of having caught the queen in a lapse. "Quite understandable, Queen Lilia," he says quickly. "I am honored by the faith you have placed in me."

===
Lia wrote:“Whose to say we know the thoughts of others?” she says with a bit of mirth. “Aye, I’ll help.” She says evenly following the fighter.
Caught off guard by the sudden humor from the woman he almost crossed blades with a few moments ago, Onas snorts as he unsuccessfully attempts to restrain his amusement. "Not I. I barely know my own thoughts..." He's glad she's willing to help, as the ship appears quite large.
Lia wrote:“Good to know. At least we will have a better understanding of this ship. Most of what is here is carpentry and storage areas.” She says evenly.
It had never occurred to Onas that ship's would require carpentry facilities, though it certainly makes sense when he thinks about it. It seems that there is much he doesn't know about ships. "I hate to admit it, but this is the first time I've ever been on a ship. I really don't know what to expect. Have you done much sailing, Lia?"
Lia wrote:“I’ll pass. We found a chest with a liquid that effects elves. I would rather not eat or drink anything from this ship in case it is tainted with that vile substance.”She says as he crosses her arms before her looking at the liquid.
"Okay." Onas stares at the brandy for a moment, considering. With a shrug, he cups his hand, scoops up a bit more of the brandy, then drinks it down. "It might be good to know if it is. You'll keep an eye on me, right?"

Maybe it is the brandy, but Onas suddenly gets a strange feeling about the wall on one side of the room. Moving closer to the wall, he asks Lia for assistance.
Lia wrote:“Onas?”she calls back as she looks at more woodworking tools. “Yea be right there.”she says as she moves to area he is in. “It’s a wall.” Perhaps the fighter knows something she does not. Seeing Onas looking about the wall. Lia will do the same pushing on the wall in various places.
"I don't know. There's something strange about this wall... I'm sure there's some kind of opening here." Onas moves one of the barrels aside, and spots an odd hook dangling behind it. With a quick pull, a section of the wall swings open. Placing one hand on the hilt of his sword in case of danger within, he peers through the opening. Beyond is a tiny room, with nothing but a wine rack, half-filled with bottles. Onas glances at Lia to see her reaction, back at the wine, then back at Lia. "Wine. Why is there a hidden stash of wine?" he asks, mystified.

Laucian
Not really understanding what Laucian is talking about, Myev, nonetheless, agrees. “If you think this will protect us, then I agree it needs to be done.” Myev notices Argent nearby and will flash a small smile to her.
“Truth be told I am one to protect myself by bow and blade and know little of the magic that would be used against us. It is said that if you are familiar with a place and can picture it then you may visit it through teleporting. The mages believe this will help us in preventing this.” He says evenly un aware if the scro will grasp what he says.
Laucian hears voices and comes closer. He sees Elora and Myev enter a room so that she may record their findings. His eyes narrow for a fraction and then follows suit. He will invite himself to the history lesson of the elves as well as the scro. Perhaps he would something of value while keeping an eye on Myev.

Lia reaches as he goes for a cup the hand and her mouth drops as he takes a drink. “ You are either brave or foolish.”she says in all seriousness. “I’ll watch you. But if you go brain dead, I may have to strike you with my sword pommel.” She says with a serious face then smirks slightly.

“Seeing Double? Things Fuzzy?" as her hand drops to her sword. "Perhaps it is rarer than brandy and more expensive? Perhaps they age it for a long time? You can ask them while the slavers try and take your wits.” She says with a slight smirk.
Lia will continue searching about the ship.

Post Continued:

The elves have split up into smaller groups to better search the Sunflower and protect it from potentially unexpected guests. Lia and Onas found a hidden closet in a cabin where brandy had been stored. Bottles of wine were kept in a rack mounted to the back wall. The labels on the bottles are unreadable, but they all do seem to be in the same unknown language.

The next door from the brandy cabin had also been locked but was broken into by the scro. Behind this door, stairs lead down to a secondary and far secured place to store cargo. This hold is, at its longest points, nearly 30' deep and just under 20' wide. Most of the room filled with crates put into stacks and then secured to the deck with ropes. Stacks of what looks like animal furs tied into bundles is laying on top of these crates. There is no other exit from this area.

From the looks of it the scro broke into a few of the crates and upon not finding something to their liking broke the crates and their contents. What looks like the remains of dishes and other food serving items are found laying mostly smashed on the deck. At first glance the dishes seem to be made of a high quality porcelain. These were not common serving plates, but rather the sort of dinnerware a noble might use!

One deck down, Laucian noted Elora speaking to Myev. The historian was charged with recording what information she could about the elves from the scro home world. As Laucian moves closer to Myev's room, Argent leaves hers and heads to the galley. Myev tells Elora her story.

In the village where Myev grew up there were old ruins nearby. This used to be the home of the elves that used to live on Dreatar. But they had been slaughtered generations ago. Myev was considered feeble by scro standards and was not subject to any serious combat training. So instead she spent much time in the ruins. She recovered some of their books and scrolls and in time taught herself to understand and even speak this older form of the elfin tongue. Myev gives all the texts that she has to Elora.

“This is amazing,” Elora tells Laucian when she sees him. “Its like finding a lost tribe of elves. Cousins we never knew we had and now will never get to know. If not for Myev here they would have been lost forever. Its both sad and exciting at the same time.”

Seeing that Elora is not in any danger, Laucian finishes up with the last two cabins in this area. The first cabin he reaches is rather sparse as far as furniture and belongings go. There is a smashed chest by the door.

The last cabin has had its door shattered by the scro to gain entry. The room was messy before the scro got their hands on it. The chest sits with its lid raised and most of its contents spilled out. There are numerous parchments and what Laucian guesses to be sailing charts of some kind. A book written in an unknown language sits open on the bed.

The next deck down, Kylie and her mother explore the sickbay...
Kylie wrote:"That's very true! I've used mine quite a bit since Sherwood... uhm...recruited me." Kylie pauses, thinking back to her early days after her dad's injury. His pension from the city watch was barely enough to eat, much less provide for any living expenses such as clothing or medical treatment. "It was...different... back in Dog Alley."
“I don't know if I can imagine what happened to you after I left,” Allurien says with a tinge of sadness in her voice. “If we had just arrived in the Sylvan Realm as planned, then maybe all the bad things that happened to you and your father could have been avoided.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie can hear the tone in her mother's voice.
Allurien nods her understanding and has a pleased look on her face. “You have great passion for what you do and want to learn more. Those are very good qualities to have. You've made a fine young woman out of yourself.”
Kylie wrote:Not looking away from the lock, Kylie's smile widens. "It's a very exciting challenge! I like to imagine it as a duel of wits with the lock maker. My cleverness at getting in versus their determination to keep me out. Attack versus defense. I suppose it's a little like combat that way..."
“I had never consider it that way before,” Allurien notes. “To me it was simply a obstacle to overcome. I never put much thought into it.”
Kylie wrote:Having heard the cabinet behind her creak open, Kylie turns to see that her mother has succeeded with the other lock.
“If I were to venture a guess, these are healing salves of some kind,” Allurien says examining the jar. “Perhaps something to draw out poison or to sooth burns. As for this scroll, the most logical deduction is that it has healing magic on it. We should have a priest examine it, as healing spells are their domain.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie shows the log book to her mother. "I'm not familiar with this language; do you recognize it?"
“I can read the writing of a few different languages,” Allurien says as she examines the book. “But this seems like gibberish to me. Logically, given that this was an area to treat the sick and wounded, its most likely that this is written record of who was here and what illness they had. We can ask Elora if she can read it with those glasses of hers.”

Having completed their exploration of this deck, mother and daughter make their way back to the steps going up. These bring them out into the area of the officer cabins. They can hear Elora and Myev talking while Laucian finishes up the last of the cabins in this area.

Allurien wrote:“I don't know if I can imagine what happened to you after I left,” Allurien says with a tinge of sadness in her voice. “If we had just arrived in the Sylvan Realm as planned, then maybe all the bad things that happened to you and your father could have been avoided.”
There were so many years where all Kylie had wanted was for her mother to be there. To be a whole family. Maybe she would even have had a little brother or sister. But none of that happened, and it's all in the past now.

"Maybe. Maybe not. Who's to say what would have happened? What matters is that you're here now, and we're together. We can't fix yesterday, but maybe we can make a better tomorrow." Kylie hugs her mother fiercely for a moment, tears welling in her eyes, then lets go. "We better get back to work if that's going to happen..."
Allurien wrote:Allurien nods her understanding and has a pleased look on her face. “You have great passion for what you do and want to learn more. Those are very good qualities to have. You've made a fine young woman out of yourself.”
Having experienced so little of it in her life, the open praise makes Kylie a bit uncomfortable. That it's coming from her mom makes the feeling more intense, yet also warm and nurturing at the same time. "Uh... Thanks, Mom," she says, not sure how else to respond.
Allurien wrote:“I had never consider it that way before,” Allurien notes. “To me it was simply a obstacle to overcome. I never put much thought into it.”
"Admittedly, my imagination does run away with me on occasion," Kylie admits with a chuckle.
Allurien wrote:“If I were to venture a guess, these are healing salves of some kind,” Allurien says examining the jar. “Perhaps something to draw out poison or to sooth burns. As for this scroll, the most logical deduction is that it has healing magic on it. We should have a priest examine it, as healing spells are their domain.”
Nodding, Kylie considers for a moment. "I believe Laucian and Lia are both on the ship, and they're priests. May we should show it to one of them."
Allurien wrote:“I can read the writing of a few different languages,” Allurien says as she examines the book. “But this seems like gibberish to me. Logically, given that this was an area to treat the sick and wounded, its most likely that this is written record of who was here and what illness they had. We can ask Elora if she can read it with those glasses of hers.”
"Makes sense to me," Kylie replies. She slips the book into one of the pockets of her enchanted Girdle.

It doesn't take long to finish searching this deck. When they reach the aft area, Kylie points out the other two Spell Engines to her mother. They take a quick search through the armories, but find little of interest. Lots of weapons and armor, but nothing that is likely to be magical, and they don't find any hidden compartments. Apparently the scro had "borrowed" some of the gear, but most of it is still present.
Allurien wrote:“Nothing surprising down here,” Allurien notes. “Nothing out of the ordinary. Looks like we go up once more!”
And so they do. Kylie sees Laucian making a mess of a room across the way, and can hear Elora conversing with Myev in another room nearby.

"There's Laucian, Mom," she says, gesturing toward the room. "Why don't you show him the scroll you found? I can hear Elora over this way, so I'll take the book to her." Part of her hates the idea of separating from her mother for even a few minutes, but she recognizes that the feeling is childish and she will be back with her mom again soon.

Turning, Kylie finds her way to the room where Elora and Myev are talking. "Sorry to interrupt," she says. "We found this book in the sickbay, but cannot read it. Probably not terribly important, but it might be worth having a look through with those glasses of yours when you get the chance, Elora."

Lia
As Onas is done drinking and not staring at her with a vacant expression, Lia believes him to be ok. She can’t help but wonder what possess someone to take such a chance but than she has been known to takes such risks in part.
Exiting the wine and brandy storage there is another door that was smashed open. Admriing the scro’s handywork,”Not ones to see into the future they were.” She says absently seeing stairs leading down into a cargo hold. Lia sees many boxes and what looks like furs rolled upon them.
Seeing things thrown and broken about Lia moves about the cavern to the broken crates and items.
From the looks of it the scro broke into a few of the crates and upon not finding something to their liking broke the crates and their contents. What looks like the remains of dishes and other food serving items are found laying mostly smashed on the deck. At first glance the dishes seem to be made of a high quality porcelain. “These are not common plates,” taking the broke dish in hand and looking at the etching and design. “Someone put work into these.”Standing up she will move to one of the crates where the furs are laid upon in. She will move the furs and open the crate and see what is inside.

Lia wrote:“The views are amazing, frightening at first but amazing.” She says evenly after some thought. “At sea never. On a bed of clouds, a few times.”she says with a faint smile remember how scared and excited she was at first.
"I hope to experience some of that some day," Onas says, wistfully. "Perhaps even aboard this very ship. If it can carry griffons, maybe it can also carry horses -- though I'm not sure what Carad Orod would think of being high in the sky."
Lia wrote:Lia reaches as he goes for a cup the hand and her mouth drops as he takes a drink. “ You are either brave or foolish,” she says in all seriousness. “I’ll watch you. But if you go brain dead, I may have to strike you with my sword pommel.” She says with a serious face then smirks slightly.
"I've been called both, so probably some of each," Onas admits with a smile. He reaches up with his right hand and feels about his head playfully. "I'd better find my helmet then..."
Lia wrote:“Seeing Double? Things Fuzzy?" as her hand drops to her sword. "Perhaps it is rarer than brandy and more expensive? Perhaps they age it for a long time? You can ask them while the slavers try and take your wits.” She says with a slight smirk.
"Well, there's only one of you, and the only thing fuzzy is your hair," Onas says, grinning mischievously. "That could be, as I don't really know much about either one other than that I enjoy drinking them. Joke's on the slaver, as he'll find there's not much there to steal."

Onas follows Lia down into the secondary storage area. Clearly, the scro had smashed their way in. From all the broken pottery lying around, they were not impressed by the dishes.
Lia wrote:Exiting the wine and brandy storage there is another door that was smashed open. Admiring the scro’s handiwork, ”Not ones to see into the future they were.” She says absently seeing stairs leading down into a cargo hold. Lia sees many boxes and what looks like furs rolled upon them.
"The scro don't seem to have much interest in anything that isn't useful in combat," Onas replies.
Lia wrote:“These are not common plates,” taking the broke dish in hand and looking at the etching and design. “Someone put work into these.”Standing up she will move to one of the crates where the furs are laid upon in. She will move the furs and open the crate and see what is inside.
Reaching down, Onas picks up a sizable piece of what was probably a serving pitcher. "It does appear to be high quality and decorative; probably worth a fair bit of money before it was smashed."

While Lia digs into a few of the unopened crates, Onas unravels one of the bundles of furs. Since the other cargo in this small, formerly-secured hold seems valuable, he is curious about the furs. Surely they aren't simply for making clothing or armor...

Laucian
Laucian listens as Myev tells of her up bringing. Silently Laucian gains more respect for the Scro having been self taught and enduring being looked down upon. Soon enough Elora notices him and begins speaking to him.
“This is amazing,” Elora tells Laucian when she sees him. “Its like finding a lost tribe of elves. Cousins we never knew we had and now will never get to know. If not for Myev here they would have been lost forever. Its both sad and exciting at the same time.”
Laucian smiles at the historian seeing how excited she is over finding a new tribe or clan of elves. “They will be known now.”he says evenly enough as he puts his hair behind his ear more securely. “You honor them and their way of life. Perhaps the Scro missed a few of our cousins, thought doubtful.”
Seeing Elora is safe, Laucian continues on his clearing and cluttering objective.
There is a smashed chest by the door.
Laucian will take the time to see what was smashed in the area of the chest.
Seeing the parchment and sailing charts Laucian takes them and stows them to give to Elora! If these are what he thinks they are than they may know more about these explorers and the lands about the sky. Looking around Laucian sees an open book. A look of curiosity and concern comes to him as he looks the book over then picks it.
Laucian will make his way back to Elora and present his finds to her. “These maybe of use to us. They look like charts and there was a book. Sadly I cannot make out the words.”

Post Continued:

The search of the Sunflower continues. Lia and Onus have come across a secured cargo hold where more expensive goods were placed. Some smashed porcelain dinnerware was found on the floor near a few open crates. On top of the crates were stacks of furs tied together.

Lia moves the furs aside to look at the still sealed crates. A quick count reveals that there are 34 such crates in total, including the ones already opened. They all have the same markings. Each crate is not all that heavy; maybe ten pounds in weight. Lia opens one of the crates and finds more fine porcelain dinnerware. The quality is unmistakable and these crates would fetch a high price in the proper market.

Onas examines the furs and finds that they too are of exceptional quality. The furs, they come in a variety of colors and are the hides from many different animals, are silky smooth to the touch. The furs would also demand a high price to the right buyer.

With the secured hold seemingly explored, the pair retrace their steps back to the upper deck. They exit to the outside of the ship once more. The middle door on the fore side of the deck has another set of stairs going down. These stairs lead directly to the main cargo hold.

The hold is stuffed with crates, bags, bolts of cloth, and even more bundles of fur. The scro did their usual rampage down here, but there was very little to their liking. A thorough inventory of the cargo reveals the following:

There are 38 crates holding 75 blocks of salt each.

There are 20 bags of rope, the normal adventuring kind.

There are 28 sacks that are filled with empty sacks.

There are 320 rolls of cloth of varying quality from typical cloth to silk.

There are a 12 crates of drinking glasses of average quality.

There are 170 bundles of animal furs that are not as nice as the ones in the other hold. These are just average quality.

Lastly, there are 15 bags of tea leaves and 15 bags of coffee beans.

One deck down, Argent reaches the galley to start making her evening meal. Upon arriving there, the Invoker finds Talen already there munching on a snack.

Not far away, Laucian is keeping an eye on Elora as she is going over what Myev knows about the elves from her home world.
Laucian wrote:Laucian smiles at the historian seeing how excited she is over finding a new tribe or clan of elves. “They will be known now.”he says evenly enough as he puts his hair behind his ear more securely. “You honor them and their way of life. “Perhaps, maybe someday, we can go there and find out more about or lost kin,” Elora says hopefully. “That would be an exciting trip!”

Returning to his chore, Laucian looks at one of the smashed chests. The top was smashed in, most likely by the scro. The contents were thrown around the cabin and, presumably, the scro took anything that they considered valuable.

One deck below that, Kylie and her mother Allurien explore the sickbay. What are guessed to be unknown medicines, a scroll, and a book are found. The two talk about a variety of subjects...
Kylie wrote:"Maybe.
“You are right, of course,” Allurien agrees. “What has happened has happened. Nothing can change it. Yes, lets resume or search and put such morbid thoughts away.”
Kylie wrote:Nodding, Kylie considers for a moment. "I believe Laucian and Lia are both on the ship, and they're priests. May we should show it to one of them."
Allurien nods her agreement. “A wise course of action.”

Having cleared this deck, the pair go up to the next deck and emerge in the cabins where the officers bunked. Laucian is in the area, as is Elora and Myev.
Lauican" wrote:"There's Laucian, Mom," she says, gesturing toward the room. "Why don't you show him the scroll you found? I can hear Elora over this way, so I'll take the book to her." Part of her hates the idea of separating from her mother for even a few minutes, but she recognizes that the feeling is childish and she will be back with her mom again soon.
“Okay,” Allurien says to Kylie. She turns to get Laucian's attention. “Laucian? Can you do me a favor? We found this scroll and suspect that it holds priest spells. Can you look at it to see if we are right?”
Kylie wrote:Turning, Kylie finds her way to the room where Elora and Myev are talking. "Sorry to interrupt," she says. "We found this book in the sickbay, but cannot read it. Probably not terribly important, but it might be worth having a look through with those glasses of yours when you get the chance, Elora."
“Sure, I can take a look,” Elora says. She's already wearing her glasses as she's going over very old looking scrolls with Myev. Elora opens the book to the first page.

“Medical Log of the Sunflower is what it says.” Elora flips through the pages and eventually reaches the last page of entries. “Most of these are simply injury reports. The final entry is about a case of alcohol poisoning. The doctor simply let the sailor sleep it off instead of curing him. I saw some entries for administering that vidate to elves that they had captured. But none of those were that recent.”

Not long after that Laucian comes into the cabin with items of his own. He has several parchments and a book with him that he found in a nearby cabin.
Laucian wrote:Laucian will make his way back to Elora and present his finds to her. “These maybe of use to us. They look like charts and there was a book. Sadly I cannot make out the words.”
“Those do look like sailing charts,” Allurien speaks up. “I've seen the likes of them before, but I do not recognize any of the features on them. Now the book, I can understand a little. It's a spell book!”

Allurien wrote:Allurien nods her agreement. “A wise course of action.”
Having her mother agree with her thoughts and ideas means the world to Kylie. She has scraped by without her mom for so long, it is heartening to know that her mother approves of the young woman she has become rather than seeing her as a disappointment or embarrassment.

Up on the next deck, they find Laucian, Myev, and Elora. Mom goes to speak with Laucian, while Kylie approaches the two women and shows the book she found to Elora.
Elora wrote:“Sure, I can take a look,” Elora says.

"'Medical log' is about what we figured it was," Kylie says. "Does it say anything more about the elves that they dosed? It might be useful to know more about how it works and what kind of symptoms may be displayed."

Laucian and Allurien enter shortly thereafter. Laucian has found some kind of navigational charts and a book, both of which he shows to Elora. Allurien eyes them over Laucian's shoulder, and makes a very interesting discovery!
Allurien wrote:“Those do look like sailing charts,” Allurien speaks up. “I've seen the likes of them before, but I do not recognize any of the features on them. Now the book, I can understand a little. It's a spell book!”
Kylie's eyes light up on hearing her mother's pronouncement. "A spell book?!" she queries excitedly. "I would love to see what's in there! Hopefully, there will be a few that we've haven't seen before..." However, knowing she's not the only wizard in the room, she'll wait to see what the others think.

Onas Brightsword:

Opening one of the bundles of furs, Onas can feel the exceptional quality. Their incredible softness feels luxurious against his hands, and their striking color and beauty are a delight to his eyes. He begins to imagine the various uses they could be put to, from royal garments to decoration. No doubt some would pay a handsome price for such luxury.

Looking over at Lia going through the crates, Onas says, "Well, I'm done here. I'll meet you in the main hold on this deck." He then heads back up to the upper deck where they found all that alcohol, out onto the main deck, and down to the central hold.

It takes some time, but they are able to take a solid inventory of the hold. The amount of ordinary cargo here is staggering. Much of it is stuff that he had never even considered as being trading cargo, such as salt and rope. What really puzzles him, though, are the bags full of empty bags.

"Hey, Lia! There are nearly 30 bags here that are stuffed full of empty sacks. Does that seem odd to you?"

Moving the furs aside, Lia begins to look at the crates. Seeing them all look the same, Lia counts them and opens one. Carefully removing the lid she finds porcelain dinnerware. Taking the platter in hand she looks at the fine craftsmanship. She can’t help but flip the platter over seeing if there is some kind of mark of the maker.
Her curiosity satisfied she follows Onas up the stairs. As Onas calls for her. "Hey, Lia! There are nearly 30 bags here that are stuffed full of empty sacks. Does that seem odd to you?"
“Aye, though given what we found out from the ships contents, I’d say they were used to put over the heads of the unfortunate souls who were captured.”

“Let us report back to the others. Perhaps the Queen will allow the craftsman the spoils of this ship that they can make their wares so that all can benefit from what we found.”

Laucian will do his best to make out the contents of the scroll.

Lia examines an intact serving platter from the crate she just opened. There are markings on the back of the platter and thanks to her Read Languages they make sense! The plates says they were made by the Raisa Ceramic Company. Lia never heard of such a company before.

After completing their examination of the secured cargo hold, Lia and Onas move to the main cargo hold one deck down. As they sort through the hold full of cargo, they can hear familiar voices coming from the far door compared to where they entered. Suddenly, the pair hear a familiar voice crying out, “A spell book?!”

In the officer cabins area, Laucian is present along with Elora and Myev. Kylie and her mom arrive not long after. Some noise from the cargo hold can be heard. It sounds like someone talking and going through the cargo stored there.

Laucian speaks to Elora about the information she is learning from Myev about the elves that used to live on the scro home world.
Laucian wrote:“If it is decreed that we may look into our kin, it would be interesting to say the least. Though The remaining scro would be dealt with, I am afraid a war of some level would result in our presence.”
“I had not considered that,” Elora admits, her enthusiasm lessening. “Clearly, it would need to be a covert mission.”

Kylie asks Elora about the book she found in a desk in the sickbay. Elora is able to translate the writing and learns that the book is a medical log.
Kylie wrote:"'Medical log' is about what we figured it was," Kylie says. "Does it say anything more about the elves that they dosed? It might be useful to know more about how it works and what kind of symptoms may be displayed."
“Agreed,” Elora says as she goes back several pages in the book. “Hmm, from what I can tell the doctor would give the elves they captured a dose a day until they permanently forgot who they were. From what I can tell, only two or three doses were needed! No other information is listed here. I'll have to examine the sickbay to see if there is more details about this horrible liquid.”

Allurien inquires if Laucian can make out what is on what is believed to be a healing scroll.
Laucian wrote:Looking up from his charts and book, “Yes, if I am able to.” Laucian looks at the scroll for a moment than says. “I can take a look at it.”
Laucian examines the scroll and finds that there are two spells on it. One is Raise Dead and the other is Neutralize Poison.

In turn, Laucian has what he believes to be sailing charts. These he shows to Allurien and Elora.
Lauican wrote:Laucian looks to Elora than to Allurien. “Then we know where they hail from and where they have been. Perhaps in time we may travel to these places to see what lives there and further our knowledge of these worlds."
“Perhaps someday,” Allurien will agree. “While I cannot understand the writing, I can make out the gist of these maps. They show landmasses, waterways and ports. No doubt these are the places where the Sunflower has been to purchase cargo or to sell goods.”

“Most likely,” Elora adds. “These are area maps, but areas that I am unfamiliar with. Given what we are dealing with, the lands shown on these charts may not even be on Arret. Just have to add them the pile of information that we have about this ship and where it has been.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie's eyes light up on hearing her mother's pronouncement. "A spell book?!" she queries excitedly. "I would love to see what's in there! “I assume that this spell book, and any others found, will become the communal property of the Sylvan Realm,” Allurien states as she accepts the book and glances Kylie's way. “All mages will have a chance to examine it. It is strange that this book was just right out in the open. Most spell casters are more secretive with their books.”

“But only one spell book?” Allurien wonders after a pause. “From what Kylie told me, this ship had three Spell Engines and each could only be controlled by one mage. It seems to me that there two more mages on the Sunflower. So, logically, there should be two more spell books to be found. Where haven't we searched yet?”

GM Notes:

You guys are really overthinking the huge quantity of sacks. They are the most common way to carry things around in. Adventurers use them as do most regular people. Someone has to make them after all!

The regular cargo hold is right next to the officer quarters, so you can hear each others voices as there is only a door between you.

Now what?
Try it and find out!

Kylie:

Laucian, Myev and Elora discuss the elves who originally built this ship. Elora expresses an interest in going to learn about those other elves. Laucian points out that it would also take them to where the rest of the scro live, and could well start a war.
Elora wrote:“I had not considered that,” Elora admits, her enthusiasm lessening. “Clearly, it would need to be a covert mission.”
"True," Kylie concurs in a matter-of-fact tone. "If we were to go, we would need a clear mission goal and plan. It would be too easy to become offended by the treatment of the elves and stumble into exactly the war that we are trying to avoid."
Elora wrote:“Agreed,” Elora says as she goes back several pages in the book. “Hmm, from what I can tell the doctor would give the elves they captured a dose a day until they permanently forgot who they were. From what I can tell, only two or three doses were needed! No other information is listed here. I'll have to examine the sickbay to see if there is more details about this horrible liquid.”
Kylie whistles softly. "Just two or three doses... That stuff is potent indeed! All the more reason to learn as much as we can. Mom and I searched the sickbay earlier, but I'm happy to help look again."

Discussion turns to the maps and sailing charts that Laucian found, and Allurien joins the discussion with Elora. Alluriens posits that the ship had been to some of these places previously. Elora adds in that they are unlikely to be on Arret, which would mean navigating the vastness of space in this ship.

"Do you think we could actually find our way across that vast distance with these charts?" Kylie asks the others. "I know that the scro found their way here, but it's hard to know just how much of that was sheer luck."
Laucian wrote:“Then I leave the book in your care, Allurien as you understand it. No disrespect Kylie.” he says quickly looking to the excited half elf.
"None taken, Laucian," Kylie replies in a less excited tone. "Work before play and all that. There will be plenty of time to explore the book's secrets later."
Allurien wrote:“I assume that this spell book, and any others found, will become the communal property of the Sylvan Realm,” Allurien states as she accepts the book and glances Kylie's way.

Kylie likes the sound of sharing the spell book. However, her mother's thought is even more appealing. "It sounds like we have more searching to do, Mom. If there are more spell books hidden about the ship, it would be well worth finding them."

Pausing to think for a moment, Kylie considers the most likely places for such things to be stored, and remembers that she and her mom have only just reached this deck. "Hmm... Well, most of the staterooms are on this deck, so we should search them carefully. Also, the captain's cabin is on the level above us, so that is probably worth checking as well."

Onas Brightsword:

Onas and Lia have thoroughly surveyed the contents of the main hold, and found some interesting items.
Lia wrote:“Aye, though given what we found out from the ships contents, I’d say they were used to put over the heads of the unfortunate souls who were captured.”
A puzzled expression forms on Onas' face. "Oh. I guess I don't know much about how slavers work. Makes sense, I suppose..."
Lia wrote:“Let us report back to the others. Perhaps the Queen will allow the craftsman the spoils of this ship that they can make their wares so that all can benefit from what we found.”
"Okay. I think I hear some of them over on that end of the ship," Onas says as he points toward the aft end of the ship.
Suddenly, the pair hear a familiar voice crying out, “A spell book?!”
Lowering his hand, Onas strolls toward the aft cabins. "Well, someone's excited," he says with a smirk to Lia as he approaches the aft section. "I don't recognize the voice, but I can understand being excited to find a spell book as they tend to be quite rare and precious."

Opening the door into the cabin where the voices are coming from, Onas recognises Laucian, Elora, Allurien, and Kylie. Based on her expression, he assumes that the excited voice must have come from Kylie; while he has seen her briefly before, he has never really heard her talk very much. The other occupant of the rooms is a woman with an orcish look about her, though more civilized somehow. Since the others aren't attacking her, he guesses that this must be Myev, who was described as a member of a race referred to as 'scro'. Still, she bears watching.
Laucian wrote:“Then I leave the book in your care, Allurien as you understand it. No disrespect Kylie.” he says quickly looking to the excited half elf.
Laucian hands a book to Allurien just as he enters. From the intense look on Kylie's face as the book changes hands, Onas is certain that this must be the spell book that generated so much excitement. Not being a mage himself, the spell book is of somewhat less interest to him.

Laucian hears the noise coming from the cargo hold From what he can tell he thinks someone is going through the ships wares. Must be and Onas as they disappeared.
“I had not considered that,” Elora admits, her enthusiasm lessening. “Clearly, it would need to be a covert mission.”
“While I agree it would be amazing to learn of our distant kin, It is better to err on the side on caution. Perhaps Myev might be inclined to help us, if and when it is decided to look for them.”
“These humans need to be shown the error of their ways.” Laucian says solemnly.
Laucian examines the scroll and finds that there are two spells on it. One is Raise Dead and the other is Neutralize Poison.
Looking over the scroll he looks it over, His eyes narrow as he does so. “It is indeed clerical spells, though there are two written upon the scroll. One of Raise Dead and Neutralize poison.” He says looking up to Allurien and Kylie. “It makes me wonder if neutralize poison would remove the workings of the slave potion?”

A puzzled expression forms on Onas' face. "Oh. I guess I don't know much about how slavers work. Makes sense, I suppose..."
Lia shrugs at the platemail elf, “Perhaps, but then maybe they are just for everyday use for wares. I do not know much of the way humans think or act.” The cleric says easily.
Lowering his hand, Onas strolls toward the aft cabins. "Well, someone's excited," he says with a smirk to Lia as he approaches the aft section. "I don't recognize the voice, but I can understand being excited to find a spell book as they tend to be quite rare and precious."
“Probably Kylie or Argent. They are the only mages besides Myev but it did not sound like her.” Lia disagrees with the sentiment that spell books are quite rare but does not voice it.
As she hears the conversation about the spell books, she looks to Myev. “Would you know of any of these books that they seek? Seeing as you are a mage and possibly helped fly this ship.”

Post Continued:

Most of the group has reached the stateroom area of the Sunflower during their search of the ship. Once there they share their findings. Laucian has scrolls and a book he found in a nearby cabin, while Allurien and Kylie have items from the Sunflower's Sickbay. Lia and Onas report their findings in the ships holds. Laucian examines a scroll found in the sickbay, while Elora goes over the medical log.
Laucian wrote:Looking over the scroll he looks it over, His eyes narrow as he does so. “It is indeed clerical spells, though there are two written upon the scroll. One of Raise Dead and Neutralize poison.” He says looking up to Allurien and Kylie. “It makes me wonder if neutralize poison would remove the workings of the slave potion?”
“As I thought then,” Allurien remarks. “A medical related scroll.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie whistles softly. "Just two or three doses... That stuff is potent indeed! All the more reason to learn as much as we can. Mom and I searched the sickbay earlier, but I'm happy to help look again."
“That is why the Queen decreed that those potions are to be destroyed,” Elora adds. “Sheeryl will cast a Destroy Water spell on them tomorrow morning and that will be the end of those horrid potions. As far as a Neutralize Poison spell goes, it may work, it may not. While the effects of this liquid are dire, it does not appear to be fatal to those consumed like a poison could be.”

Sea charts were also found, but no one can say where the land they show is located or even if they are on this world.
Laucian wrote:“While I agree it would be amazing to learn of our distant kin, It is better to err on the side on caution. Perhaps Myev might be inclined to help us, if and when it is decided to look for them.”
“Yes,” Elora agrees. “Clearly this is just wishful thinking on my part right now.”
Kylie wrote:"Do you think we could actually find our way across that vast distance with these charts?" Kylie asks the others. "I know that the scro found their way here, but it's hard to know just how much of that was sheer luck."
“It had to be sheer luck,” Allurien adds with her face becoming more suspicious as she speaks. “I have some knowledge of plotting a course of an ocean going vessel and it is very difficult, especially for someone who has no skill in such a thing. The process is much like archery. As any archer knows, the further away your target, the harder it is to hit. Now imagine trying to hit a target hundreds, if not thousands of miles away. If they came from so far away, realistically it should have been hard for even a skilled navigator to get here if at all.”

A spell book has been found, but given that there are three Spell Engines that seemed to see regular use, Allurien wonders if there are also at least three mages on the Sunflower. That would mean that there should be at least two more spell books to be found.
Kylie wrote:Kylie likes the sound of sharing the spell book. However, her mother's thought is even more appealing. "It sounds like we have more searching to do, Mom. If there are more spell books hidden about the ship, it would be well worth finding them."

“Living areas seem the most likely place for a mage to store his spell book,” Allurien agrees. “Assuming that they didn't have the book with them when the scro stole the Sunflower.”
Lauican wrote:“Perhaps among the other books or hidden?”
“Could be,” Allurien adds as she looks around the hallway where the staterooms are located. “Most mages secure their doors with a Wizard Lock spell. Perhaps the mages rooms are the ones with the broken down doors?”

A quick look of the immediate area shows that there are two doors that were broken down. One is the room where Laucian found the spell book and the other is the quarters that Argent has been using, the feminine one.
Lia wrote:As she hears the conversation about the spell books, she looks to Myev. “Would you know of any of these books that they seek? Seeing as you are a mage and possibly helped fly this ship.”
“I never thought to look for other spell books,” Myev says in elfish. “My knowledge of magic is so limited it never occurred to me. There are a lot of books over in that room, but they didn't make any sense to me.”

Myev points to the room Argent has been using. There is a desk in this room and on top of it are many books. Some of them are open as if they had been looked through recently, but no one can understand the writing.

Of minor note to those who have spent time among Myev during these last few days, is that her elfish has gotten much better. Before there were some words that she would say that you could not understand, but now she is easy to comprehend.

Now what?

Kylie:
Elora wrote:“That is why the Queen decreed that those potions are to be destroyed,” Elora adds.
"Hard to know without trying, I suppose," Kylie says, thinking back to her days in Dog Alley. "I remember Master Rat telling me of poisons that paralyzed or had other non-fatal effects. Of course, I don't really know if the spell would be effective against those types of poisons, either."
Allurien wrote:“It had to be sheer luck,” Allurien adds with her face becoming more suspicious as she speaks.
Thinking for a moment, Kylie turns to Myev. "If I remember your story correctly, Myev, your people are from a different world, and stole a flying ship and flew it from there to this place called Farhaven. There, you switched to this ship and flew it here after stealing it from the humans who had used the ship previously. Did you travel through space again to reach here from Farhaven, or is Farhaven on this world somewhere? You also mentioned finding flight plans created by those other elves that helped you find your way first to Farhaven and then here. Do you believe that you could retrace the route back to Farhaven or even to your original world?"

Kylie reflects for a moment on what she has learned about flying these ships. "Were you able to fly the ship here entirely by yourself? It seems like it would require at least two mages to travel in space, and there would have been a need to rest. Were there other scro mages in your crew?"

Moments later, Lia enters the stateroom area from the hold below with an elf she doesn't recognize. While he is almost certainly older than she is, he looks very young for an elf. He has blue eyes and light grey hair, and is garbed in elven plate mail armor.

"And who might you be?" Kylie asks with one eyebrow raised, pinning him in place with her gaze.
Laucian wrote:“I believe it is.” Laucian says evenly and then continues. “I only figured that if you knew what it was, you would be the best to know how to decipher it’s contents for the others.”
Laucian's words strike Kylie's ears harshly. While it is true that her mother has somewhat more experience with magic than she does, Allurien has admitted that Kylie is more the student of magic. Despite having traveled and fought alongside Laucian, he seems to have a low estimation of her abilities as a wielder of magic. Apparently she has not yet proven herself in his eyes. Or perhaps he is dismissive of her because she is not a "true" elf. She will need to think more on this.
Allurien wrote:“Living areas seem the most likely place for a mage to store his spell book,” Allurien agrees. “Assuming that they didn't have the book with them when the scro stole the Sunflower.”
"That's really the big question to my mind, Mom," Kylie responds quietly as she tries to think through all of the possibilities. "Whether or not any given mage left their spell book on the ship is really hard to know. We can search to the best of our ability, but there may or may not be other books to find, and it's possible that we might fail to find one or more that are here. Definitely still worth searching, though."
Allurien wrote:“Could be,” Allurien adds as she looks around the hallway where the staterooms are located. “Most mages secure their doors with a Wizard Lock spell. Perhaps the mages rooms are the ones with the broken down doors?”
Allurien's words lead Kylie to think once again of the rooms where they found both the treasure and the slave quarters. Those rooms were searched pretty thoroughly, so it is unlikely that they missed any spell books in those rooms. Not really a very likely place for them to have been anyway.
Myev wrote:“I never thought to look for other spell books,” Myev says in elfish. “My knowledge of magic is so limited it never occurred to me. There are a lot of books over in that room, but they didn't make any sense to me.”
Another aspect of Myev's story flits through Kylie's mind. "I seem to recall you mentioning that you brought over a bunch of books from the ship that had belonged to the other elves. Any chance any of those were spell books? It might be good to take another look through them."

Kylie turns to her mother. "Might as well get started searching that room first." Putting her words into action, Kylie crosses the hall and enters the room. It is clear that someone has already been moving some of the furniture around as requested by Lilia. Kylie will do her best to search the room for any hidden compartments or suspect items. She only has one more use of Detect Magic left for today, so she will refrain from using that until needed.

I'm not really certain where Lia and Onas enter or how the different conversations fit together at this point, so I'm making a guess.

Onas Brightsword:
Lia wrote:Lia shrugs at the platemail elf, “Perhaps, but then maybe they are just for everyday use for wares. I do not know much of the way humans think or act.” The cleric says easily.
"Hmm, yeah. Me neither." Onas returns to work, shaking his head.
Lia wrote:“Probably Kylie or Argent. They are the only mages besides Myev but it did not sound like her.” Lia disagrees with the sentiment that spell books are quite rare but does not voice it.
Onas' face flushes momentarily with embarrassment. "Oh. I hadn't thought of Argent. I suppose it could be either of them."

As they enter the area where the others are, they find Allurien, Kylie, Laucian, Elora, and Myev discussing spell books. Onas instinctively bristles at the sight of Myev, but manages to restrain the urge to do or say anything rash. The others seem to be treating the scro woman as a trusted friend, so he decides to give her the benefit of the doubt. For now.

He knows Elora well, as they were part of the same expeditionary group led by Arlen, and he has met and talked with Laucian briefly a little earlier. However, this is the first time he's been this close to either Allurien or Kylie, so he studies them as the conversation goes on. Allurien is the head of clan Feador here in the Realm, and a woman of great repute. Even Arlen has great respect for her based on her numerous accomplishments and her natural skill as a leader and adventurer. Just standing in her presence, Onas finds himself marveling at the woman.

And Kylie! A young half-elf -- little more than a child really -- and yet already renowned as one of the Heroes of the Mother Tree! Her aptitude and skills must be phenomenal to have achieved so much in so few years. And yet, Lia was also half-elven like her brother Talen, so they are likely of a similar age to Kylie. It boggles the mind. Even from what little he has seen, Kylie takes after her mother strongly, yet is also clearly different. Must be the human side of her. What must her father be like to have married Allurien and sired Kylie? Clearly, he must be a great leader among men. Perhaps a king or a general...
Kylie wrote:"And who might you be?" Kylie asks with one eyebrow raised, pinning him in place with her gaze.
Quite suddenly, Onas finds himself scrutinized by the young half-elven heroine. "Ahh... Onas Brightsword," he replies, not sure exactly how to reply. "At your service, Kylie... ah... Feador. How may I be of assistance?" Onas makes an awkward bow, hoping more than anything that she would stop staring at him that way. Noting that his palms have become sweaty, he attempts to subtly wipe them on his clothes.

Fortunately, her attention gets dragged back to the conversation about the spell books, as they discuss plans to search the nearby rooms to see if there are more of them on the ship.

Relieved, Onas turns to Laucian. "If I heard correctly, it is believed that these rooms were the quarters of the human mages. Perhaps I can help to make them more dangerous to teleport back to, as Lilia requested. After they are done searching, of course." If there is no objection, Onas will find several more coils of rope, and begin weaving them about each of the rooms once the others appear to be done with them.

Laucian
“As I thought then,” Allurien remarks. “A medical related scroll.”
“I will speak to Lilia and Lia as to see who would wish to
carry it.” He replies stowing the scroll away.
“Could be,” Allurien adds as she looks around the hallway where the staterooms are located. “Most mages secure their doors with a Wizard Lock spell. Perhaps the mages rooms are the ones with the broken down doors?”
“I found this one in one of those rooms.” He says indicating the room he took it from.
“It is or atleast there was one in which was a mages room.”He says nodding to the book. “I will give you a hand doing so. It will make that much faster.”
Laucian will move off helping to move things into the open area and baring the way for teleporters.”
Til Ehlonna's will be done

“I never thought to look for other spell books,” Myev says in elfish. “My knowledge of magic is so limited it never occurred to me. There are a lot of books over in that room, but they didn't make any sense to me.”
Myev points to the room Argent has been using. There is a desk in this room and on top of it are many books. Some of them are open as if they had been looked through recently, but no one can understand the writing.
“Then perhaps it is time to look.”Lia looks to see where Myev is pointing seeing many books about the desk. “Your Elfish is improving. You are a quick study.” She says evenly with a hint of a smile.
After checking Argent’s room for spell books she will begin adjusting the room.
The last thing you shall hear is the bladesong of my sword.
