Sylvan Realm #2

November 24th, 571 CR

On the southern edge of the Sylvan Realm, Laucian and his griffon riders are investigating their second enemy fort. Dark figures were spotted in the guard towers as night falls early this time of year. Daring to fly closer, the riders discover that it is elves that hold this fort, not enemy forces. The leader of these elves, Arlen Brightsword, orders those with him to stand down as the griffon riders are friends. Arlen wonders if the riders have news from the Mother Tree.
Laucian wrote:“Some.” He calls back in elvish, “May we enter?” he soon calls back. If he is allowed he will direct the Gryphons inside. Upon seeing Arlen Brightsword he will put out his hand in friendship. “The orcs are on the run. We were sent out to rid the realm of the orc stench.” the Ranger says evenly. ”When I left the mother tree the clan elders were being decided as well as the King.”
The gates to the fort open allowing access to the griffon riders. As you land your mounts and dismount an armored elf approaches. You recognize him by his voice as Arlen Brightsword. Arlen wears elfin plate mail and carries a longsword and shield with him. He removes his helm and you can see that he has grayish hair and blue eyes. Arlen is barely more than five feet tall. The elfin warrior easily grasps Laucian's hand.

“That is great news,” Arlen says enthusiastically. “I only wish that we had the opportunity to make the enemy run just a little bit faster. Let those who like those dull meetings make policy and figure out who's more important than who. Give me a foe to fight any day!”
Laucian wrote:"Have you been to the other fort? Is there another group there?" he curiously asks.
“I do not know,” Arlen admits. “I've been so focused on this fort that we haven't sent more than glances to the other forts down here. We were dropped off by a roc days ago, and would have to travel on foot. I thought it prudent to remain here in case any enemy returns. Clearly, they are not coming back here. We'll rest up for the evening and torch the fort come the morning.”

Another armored man comes rushing up excitedly. “It's burning!” he cries out excitedly. “The fort to the west is burning!”

Should you go up to the guard tower you can see the last of the three forts is now on fire. The excited armored man is introduced as Onas Brightsword, Arlen's younger brother. They share similar looks and gear.

“Come, join us for the evening before we depart this wretched place come the dawn,” Arlen says with a grin. “We've been going stir crazy down here.”

Assuming you agree, you'll find that Arlen's group has been using the fire giant's quarters as a group sleeping area. The central fire is still smoldering, even thought no new fuel has been added for days now. The embers still glow, throwing off some heat. A guard shift to man the watch towers is set up for the night.

Once in the fire giant's quarters, Laucian and his fellow riders will meet the rest of Arlen's group. The group numbers seven in all, including the brothers Brightsword.

“Let me introduce my companions in this endeavor,” Arlen says. He gestures towards a male elf wearing elfin chain mail and carrying a bow. “That is Tanyl Strongbow, a ranger in the service of Solonor Thelandira. He's from your clan, Clan Grunalf.” Solonor Thelandira is the elfin deity of archery, hunting and wilderness survival. Tanyl stands 4'10” and has dark blonde hair and green eyes.

“The bookworm over there is Elora Calauth,” Arlen says continuing his introductions. Elora is a female elf wearing elfin chain mail. Laucian will note that the holy symbol of Labelas Enoreth dangles around her neck, that being of a setting sun. Labelas is the elfin god of time, longevity, and history. Elora is 4'9” in height.

Elora herself is pouring over notes and scrolls diligently and barely pays any attention when her name is spoken. Her hair is black and her eyes are hazel. Elora wears something much like reading glasses as she examines the various paperwork before her. Laucian notes that she has the same kind of hides that were found in the other fire giant quarters.

“She's been pouring over various letters and notes we found here in the fort,” Arlen continues. “Elora is a historian foremost from Clan Mealidil. Apparently those glasses allow her to translate any written text into elvish. Handy, I suppose, if you are interested in that sort of thing.”

“Did I hear right?” comes a question from another elfin lady who had been standing near the smoldering embers. She's small, even for an elf, maybe only 4'5” in height. What is unusual is her flaming red hair and amber eyes. She wears robes with flame patterns on them suggesting that she is a mage of some type. “I get to burn this place down in the morning?”

“That's right, Gweyr,” Arlen answers. “But only after we're all out of here first!”

To Laucian, Arlen adds, “The fire bug is Gweyr Autumnfire, a fire mage. Clan Long Runner.”

“Well, looks like this evening got more interesting,” Gweyr notes with a smile upon seeing the new arrivals. “Things are about to heat up.”

Arlen gestures towards another part of the fire giant quarters and indicates a third lady elf. “She's Lorelei Spellsong, a spell singer in the service of Milli. Lorelei is from Clan Chossum.”

Lorelei is a tad taller than Gweyr, but not much. She wears leather armor and carries a small harp with her. Her skin is nicely tanned. Lorelei is a brunette with almost purple eyes. Milli is the human deity of song and music in general.

“Welcome friends,” Lorelei says in a melodic voice with a smile.

“The only one missing is Lorsan Olyran, who is on guard duty. He's a bit of a wild card,” Arlen admits. “He's a priest of Tymora and a scout.” Tymora is will known as the Goddess of Luck and is popular among adventurers.

“Make yourself at home,” Arlen concludes. “Once the dawn comes we can be away from this miserable place.”

Next morning, Laucian and his griffon riders are ready to depart the last enemy fort standing. Once everyone is far enough away, Gweyr happily sees to the forts destruction. Oil and other flammable materials had already been poured out in preparation. Gweyr tosses two fireballs to start the blaze going. Then she adds a few spells that Laucian has not seen a mage cast before. One seems to have her spraying fire from her hands, igniting even more of the fort. Autumnfire finishes off the fort with a series of flaming bolts that do look something like flaming Magic Missiles.

Once the deed is done, the griffon riders say goodbye to Arlen and his companions. There are simply too many of them to carry on your griffons. Tanyl will be able to lead them safely back to the Mother Tree. Best guess is that the journey on foot should take them about three days.

The griffon riders wing their way towards the final fort. It's still smoldering from last nights burning but you are confident that it has been destroyed. There is smoke, but the fire has mostly burned out. No elves are in sight, but the forest is only a few miles away. They could have easily reached last night or even this morning.

The griffon riders turn north and begin their trek towards the Mother Tree. Late in the morning, they reach the southern river, the one that has the island in it that holds the Elfin Palace. The griffon riders make a pass over the palace, but it seems the same as the last time they were here a few days ago. The island itself is some two miles long and up to one mile wide. The vast majority of it is covered in thorny vines, the same vines you encountered here before when you rescued Caperling.

From the air, all that can be seen is the six landing platforms for griffons. They are spread out around the edge of the island. The two platforms on the northern side have rope bridges that connect them to the elfin town on the far shore. The town is called Pinit and is the Clan Hold for Clan Long Runner. Docks are noted on the shore beneath the other four landing areas. These landing areas have stables for griffons and quarters for the riders down below.

Satisfied that all is secure here, the griffon riders turn north once more. As night is starting to fall, they reach the hidden griffon stable that Laucian has visited many times before. Only a few elves remain here as opposed to the last time you were here on your way to the three forts to the south. Those present report that sightings of orcs in the Sylvan Realm are rapidly declining. Many are talking about making their way back to the Mother Tree in the morning, as the action against the invading orcs is winding down. The griffon riders stable their mounts and relax for the evening in the hidden griffon stable.

Back at the Mother Tree, the elfin leaders have been selected. Lia is invited to spend the evening with Kylie and Allurien in her Clan Councilwoman's home. While a guest room is being prepared, Allurien and Lia chat.
Lia wrote:“I was attacked while hunting the orcs by one of our own.” she says thoughtfully her ebony hand coming up and pushing a strand of white hair from her face. “Theras sought to seek his revenge by striking me down in the name of the Dark Archer. While I was a half elf, I did not see the hate of the drow in people when they looked upon me. Now, “making a circle with her hand in the table, “People are wary of me, since I made my choice, regardless of being chosen.” She adds calmly.
“I've only heard whispers of the Dark Archer,” Allurien admits. “Something about the embodiment of the surface elves hatred for the drow? Elfin memory is long and elfin hatred can run very deep.”
Lia wrote:“In truth, I do not know much of my heritage save my grandmother, Nightmist,” she adds thoughtfully. “Unless you count my goofy brother. I have heard some tales of the drow, but are the stories as horrible as they sound?” Lia asks hoping that if she does come in contact with her distant kin, she would be able to show them Eilistraee's light.
“According to our myths, the first elves were created from the blood of Corellon Larethian,” Allurien states after gathering her thoughts. “Blood that was spilled in battle against Gruumsh One-Eye, the foul creator god of the orcs. We elves were born of battle against the orcs and that is the root of our hatred for them. Granted, the orcs haven't exactly done much to change anyone's mind as they try to conqueror and dominate all other races. It's an ancient hatred that is well earned.”

“The drow are a different matter, but their hatred is just as deep and ingrained. They were surface elves once like most here in the Sylvan Realm. But their goddess, Lloth, tried to kill Corellon and take his place. She failed and fled into the depths of the earth with her followers. In time they became the drow.”

“Now just imagine someone who was once like you, but turned their backs on everything made you who you are. Now they tried to kill you and destroy everything you value. How could you not hate them back? That is the crux of the situation between the elves and the drow. To we elves, they are the ultimate symbol of betrayal and rejection. Much like the orcs, hatred of drow runs very deep. ”

“But,” Allurien adds, “it is very easy to hate a group, such as a broad category such as orcs or drow. It is harder to hate those you know. I would wager that most of the elves who came over the Rainbow Bridge never expected to find a drow waiting for them. Let alone one that helped restore the Mother Tree. Do you think any other drow would have been given the benefit of a doubt in that situation? You've done a great service to the elfin people. As I said before, we have long memories. What you have done will not be forgotten. Does that mean the drow will be forgiven? No, but at least you've made many re-examine their own beliefs.”
Lia wrote:“Thank you.” Smiling slightly, “What are the stories that you have heard?” She asks the elder elf, hoping to gain some knowledge of the subject.”
“We elves tell horrible stories about the drow to our children.” Allurien says. “My mother told them to me and, unfortunately, I passed them on to my own daughter. In short they are painted as evil and depraved beings who consort with demons and enslave others. To an elf they are evil incarnate. Much like orcs, most elves would kill them on sight.”

When the elves rise the next day it is discovered that Chandra and his associates are missing. Most believe that he is off dealing with some orc matter elsewhere in the Sylvan Realm. Among the missing are the Clan Masters for Long Runner and Red Arrow. Solus, a warrior mage, is the head of the Long Runner Clan, while the warrior Sithel replaced Chandra as Clan Master of Red Arrow when he became the Council Head. In short, a third of the council is now away.

Meanwhile to the south, Laucian and his griffon riders mount up once more and continue to fly north to the Mother Tree. Near midday, Valena of the Silver Maidens returns with her followers all mounted on unicorns. This causes a minor commotion and friends are reunited. Queen Lilia shares her vision of creating a home here in the Sylvan Realm for the half-elves and those rare good aligned drow. While this matter is being discussed, Laucian and the griffon riders finally reach Golden Peak. Laucian's cooshee's come running out to greet him after they land and start to mingle.

GM Notes:

I advanced Laucian quite a bit to get him back in sync with everyone else. You may and probably want to talk to some of Arlen's companions back at the fort.

Some of the things being talked about in the post are things that were talked about before. I know you guys don't know this stuff as well as I do, and given the fact that it's been eight years since we last did this regularly things do get forgotten about. But thing are relevant to topics being discussed now. I'll summarize here:

Way back in starting in Blackflame #6 and carrying over into #7, Lia and Talen were introduced to the group. Things did get heated when they revealed that their elfin half was drow. The twins defended Nightmist as being a good drow, while acknowledging that there were evil drow around. Talen even came right out and said that drow raiders killed their parents. So Lia does have some idea just how bad the drow are, based on what they did to her parents. Kylie probably at least knows this, but as she suggested in her post there might be more to the story.

At any rate, I imagine there is much to discuss.

Now what?

Lilia:
Lia wrote:“One would hope”. She says evenly, “Though I asked to be apart of orc parties. I wonder why he did not let me know.” The drow says letting her feelings of mistrust of Chandra known.
Talen wrote:“He asked Kylie and me as well,” Talen adds. “He didn't come and get us either. Maybe he didn't know where we were, since Kylie's mom's house is close to the ground? Maybe he just doesn't like us much?”
“I'm afraid that I cannot explain it further,” Lilia adds. “I was a sleep when they left, so I am in the dark as much as you are. I just hope that there is a good reason for so many to be gone from the Mother Tree.”
Lia wrote:Lia listens intently upon Lilia’s idea and looks around to the others trying to gauge their reactions and thoughts. A smile etches across her ebony features as she looks at Queen Lilia. “I think it is a wonderful idea! I cannot speak for the others your Majesty but I think we should at least try.” She adds with a look to the others in the hopes that they share her excitement.
“Thank you, Lia of Eilistraee.”
Talen wrote:“That is a lot to take in,” Talen will finally say. “I mean the idea of having a home for us half-elves sounds fine. But I don't know if I would be the one to oversee this project. I mean we are the only half-elves in the Sylvan Realm and us building our own town is beyond our abilities.”

“At this point in my life, I am certainly not ready to settle down. I'm only nineteen years old. There is so much that I want to do and see before I settle down and start a family of my own. I've only had a taste of being with my human relatives and want to experience more. While its nice to experience what it is like to be among the elves, I can't stay here long term. For one thing, I need better food to eat. Fruits and nuts just are not satisfying to me. I need more human food in my diet.”

“Does that make any sense?” Talen adds after a pause.
“It does make sense, Talen,” Lilia answers. “Among we elves it is not uncommon for someone around my age, what you might consider to be a young adult, to leave home and go out into the world to find themselves. Many return home, changed from their experiences while others choose to not return at all.”

“You are young, Talen. You need to find your place in the world, and find out who you are. All I am proposing is that we set up an area where you half-elves can call home when visiting here. If you want to live here permanently or just be a visitor, the choice is yours.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie smiles at her friend. "It makes perfect sense, Talen. I feel similarly myself except in reverse, in that I've had so little experience with the elven way of life."

"That said," Kylie continues, "I am very much in support of your amazing and generous idea, Queen Lilia! I would very much like to be a part of helping to make it a reality. This will be a huge project and will take a lot of time to bring it to fruition, but I cannot think of a better goal to work toward. Thank you, this is a great gift that you are extending to us, and by extension to all half-elves." Behind the excitement that is plain on her young face, thoughts and ideas are whirling through Kylie's mind in response to all the possibilities that have just opened up.
“You are most welcome, Kylie,” Lilia says with a smile. “It is the least we elves can do for what you have done for us. I will help as much as I can, but this project should be to your tastes, not to those of us elves.”
Lia wrote:After a few moments she will add, “Your Majesty. I have heard rumors of the Darksong knights here in the Sylvan Realm. From what I understand their maybe a base of operations for them underneath the palace proper.” Lia looks up to the queen, “What concerns me is that this headquarters may have ways to lead to the Underdark.
“That would be a great concern,” Lilia agrees. “Exploring the palace is on my to do list when time and resources permit. Right now, until we get reinforcements from the Elfholds, we must protect the Mother Tree. Any other tasks are secondary.”

“I do want it the palace cleansed of any trace of Moorkroft's presence and whatever dangers he left behind removed. After all, it will be my home some day. There are a great many questions about the palace that need answers and we can only get the answers by going there.”

After a moment's thought, Lilia adds, “I wonder if any of the elves who were hear in the Sylvan Realm know more about the palace? They might be able fill in some of the blanks. The High Keeper might know.”

Excusing herself, Lilia goes to find Alanik and find out what he knows about the Elfin Palace.

Not long after that, Laucian and those flying with him return to the Mother Tree. Lilia will be among those who go to greet the new arrivals.

“Welcome back, Laucian,” Lilia says in greeting. “What do you have to report?”

Valena:

The Silver Maidens have return to Golden Peak.
Lilia wrote:“Thank you, Valena,” Lilia responds. “Many shared your fears of what Chandra might do. He will now protect the Sylvan Realm instead of waging war against those beyond our forest. In fact he seems to be off doing just that as we speak.”
“He's gone off on a mission already?” Valena asks curiously. “Do you know where?”
Lilia wrote:“You ladies have been away for several days now,” Lilia continues. “Why don't you relax for a time and we'll see if any new crisis comes up that requires your attention?”
“Twist my arm if you must, Your Majesty,” Valena teases. “At any rate, I will not venture far if trouble arises.”
Lia wrote:Lia wonders how the unicorns appeared out of no where! Surprise is apparent on her face as she asks, “Greetings, Valena. I trust your trip went well?”
“Very well,” Valena answers. “The Silver Maidens have much history to them. I will have to delve deeper into it when time permits. I have much to learn.”
Talen wrote:“Good fortune then,” is all that Talen can think to say to the priestess and unicorn rider.
“Thank you, Talen.”
Kylie wrote:"I think this is an important step in the rebuilding of the elven community here," Kylie says. "I'm sure there will be many more applicants as the community grows."
“Perhaps,” Valena notes. “The requirements are high. You have to be accepted by a unicorn and they only tolerate those who are pure of heart and dedicated to the greater good.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie nods in response to Valena's words. She can imagine how hard it must be for Valena to really grasp as a reality. "It really is happening, Valena, and you deserve it as much as anyone."
Valena turns and smiles back at Kylie. She steps forward and gives her a big hug. “Thank you. That means so much to me.”

After the meeting and greeting, Valena will head off to the area where she has been sleeping while at Golden Peak. Sensing that River Blossom is becoming uncomfortable being around so many people, she will remove her friends barding and store it for now. Valena lets River Blossom go off to wander the woods as she pleases and will call her when needed.

Not long after that griffons come in for a landing and among them is another familiar face. Valena is content to wait until the crowd around Laucian thins out.

“Welcome back, my friend,” Valena will say in greeting. “I trust your mission met with success?”

Talen:
Kylie wrote:"Thank you for understanding," Kylie says. The sense of loss in Talen's eyes is potent, reminding Kylie of what she knows of his past, and hinting that there may be more that she hasn't yet heard.
Talen doesn't add anything else at this point. He just nods in response to Kylie's thanks.
Kylie wrote:"Wow, that's fascinating," Kylie murmurs, mostly to herself. A whole order of drow working in support of the elven rulers! That completely goes against everything that most people believe about the drow. The world is a much more complicated place than most people want to believe.
“It seems to me that something Sherwood once said applies here,” Talen says while thinking. “Something about that most people are oblivious to what really goes on around them. Or in this case, the common people didn't need to know what went on beneath their feet?”
Lilia wrote:“I'm afraid that I cannot explain it further,” Lilia adds. “I was a sleep when they left, so I am in the dark as much as you are. I just hope that there is a good reason for so many to be gone from the Mother Tree.”
“We can ask him when he returns,” Talen adds with a shrug. Clearly no one here knows any more than he does.
Kylie wrote:Kylie smiles at her friend. "It makes perfect sense, Talen. I feel similarly myself except in reverse, in that I've had so little experience with the elven way of life."
“I don't really have any experience with living among elves either,” Talen adds. “I mean, sure I grew up with grandmother and a few other drow elves, but there were other races too. But they were really nothing like the elves here are. Grandmother never mentioned the feeling of love that the Mother Tree gives elves. I don't know, maybe they lost that gift when they fled into the depths of the earth? So I really haven't truly lived among either humans or elves, so everything is new to me. All I know is that I need better food.”
Lilia wrote:“It does make sense, Talen,” Lilia answers. “Among we elves it is not uncommon for someone around my age, what you might consider to be a young adult, to leave home and go out into the world to find themselves. “That's basically what grandmother was doing when she sent me and Lia out into the world. That's where we met you and then all this craziness happened. But I am glad that you understand our perspective.”
Kylie wrote:"That said," Kylie continues, "I am very much in support of your amazing and generous idea, Queen Lilia!
“Uh oh,” Talen teases. “She is having a whole bunch of ideas! No doubt many that involve me doing work.”
Lilia wrote:“That would be a great concern,” Lilia agrees. “Exploring the palace is on my to do list when time and resources permit. Right now, until we get reinforcements from the Elfholds, we must protect the Mother Tree. Any other tasks are secondary.”

After a moment's thought, Lilia adds, “I wonder if any of the elves who were hear in the Sylvan Realm know more about the palace? They might be able fill in some of the blanks. The High Keeper might know.”
“We had talked about taking a look around there since Lia is interested in going there,” Talen notes. “And it wouldn't draw much away from the Mother Tree. What do you say?”

Later on when Laucian returns, Talen will wave at him when their eyes meet. With the number of elves around him, Talen just keeps his distance. But given his height, 5'10", when compared to elves, he is very easy to pick out of a crowd.

Kylie:
Valena wrote:“Perhaps,” Valena notes. “The requirements are high. You have to be accepted by a unicorn and they only tolerate those who are pure of heart and dedicated to the greater good.”
"That is a steep challenge, Valena," Kylie says, "but already three of you have met that challenge. There will be more in time."
Valena wrote:Valena turns and smiles back at Kylie. She steps forward and gives her a big hug. “Thank you. That means so much to me.”
Kylie is momentarily surprised by the hug, but soon returns it warmly. "You are most welcome, my friend."

Talen wrote:“It seems to me that something Sherwood once said applies here,” Talen says while thinking. “Something about that most people are oblivious to what really goes on around them. Or in this case, the common people didn't need to know what went on beneath their feet?”
Kylie snorts in amusement. "Sherwood always did have a way with words."

Lilia wrote:“I'm afraid that I cannot explain it further,” Lilia adds. “I was a sleep when they left, so I am in the dark as much as you are. I just hope that there is a good reason for so many to be gone from the Mother Tree.”
Kylie will not voice her misgivings as she does not want to cast unwarranted aspersions on so prominent an elf. Nevertheless, his loss in the election did not seem to set well with him, and he seems like someone who might do something rash as a result. Kylie hopes that he will prove her wrong, but will not be surprised if not.

Talen wrote:“I don't really have any experience with living among elves either,” Talen adds. “I mean, sure I grew up with grandmother and a few other drow elves, but there were other races too. I don't know, maybe they lost that gift when they fled into the depths of the earth? So I really haven't truly lived among either humans or elves, so everything is new to me. All I know is that I need better food.”
Kylie nods, understanding the feeling that her friend is expressing. "Yeah, we are going to need to figure out how we can get good meat here in the Sylvan Realm without offending the elves," she replies with sigh.
Lilia wrote:“You are most welcome, Kylie,” Lilia says with a smile. “It is the least we elves can do for what you have done for us. I will help as much as I can, but this project should be to your tastes, not to those of us elves.”
"I understand and agree with you, though I will likely ask you for advice or information now and again," Kylie says, her brow furrowed in thought. "This will be a very large undertaking, and I have little experience with such things. No doubt Mom and some of the other elves can provide ideas and advice as well."
Talen wrote:“Uh oh,” Talen teases. “She is having a whole bunch of ideas! No doubt many that involve me doing work.”
"It is good that you know me so well, Talen," Kylie replies with a smirk. "It saves me having to explain it to you..."

Lilia expresses her own concerns regarding the Royal Palace, but reminds them all that protecting Mother Tree is their first priority. She then excuses herself to go in search of more information. Kylie will be interested to hear what she learns when the opportunity arises.

Talen wrote:Later on when Laucian returns, Talen will wave at him when their eyes meet. With the number of elves around him, Talen just keeps his distance. But given his height, 5'10", when compared to elves, he is very easy to pick out of a crowd.
Kylie will wait with her friend, observing how Laucian interacts with the crowd of elves around him. As they wait, Kylie will suggest to Talen that she could make and share with him one of her father's favorite dishes if then can get ahold of some fresh rabbit meat.

“As do I. Recently. I was considered to represent Clan Grundalf. I turned it down for obvious reasons,” he indicates the gryphons. Laucian will then introduce the other Gryphons to Arlen.

Laucian looks in the way of the armored man’s direction thinking that perhaps the orcs have made their return getting past the other elves that sought them out. A slight smile comes to his lips as he hears the last of the forts is in flames. Going to see the flames liking at the darkening landscape is oddly beautiful. The younger armored man is introduced as Onas Brightsword. And laucian looks between the brothers, “It is good to meet you.” He says evenly as Arlen calls for them to join them.

“One moment, I must see that our mounts.” Laucian goes to his mount and makes it ready for the night. Looking at the other gryphon riders. “Thank you for today, you all did exteremely well. See to your mounts then join us if you wish.”
Arlen wrote:“Let me introduce my companions in this endeavor,” Arlen says.
“Always good to see a fellow clansman.” he says with a slight grin,”Laucian Nailo of Ehlonna.”
Arlen wrote:“The bookworm over there is Elora Calauth,” Arlen says continuing his introductions.

Laucian makes note of the historian, Elora Calauth. Pouring over paperwork before her, the elf doesn’t make much note of him, but he does of her. Arlen begins to tell him of the the qualities of her glasses. Laucian’s eyes narrow in further understanding a he looks and smiles slightly at the dark haired elf. Recalling the scrolls of hide he says to Arlen, “Only if you don’t know their worth!” not wanting to insult his host, “She can read the dispatches and scrolls of the Fire Giants.”

“Excuse me Elora? I have some scrolls and hides with writing I can not decipher. Would you look at them?” If the historian is willing Laucian will go to his saddle bags and receive the scrolls.
Gweyr wrote:“Did I hear right?” comes a question from another elfin lady who had been standing near the smoldering embers.

Clan Long Runner.

“Well, looks like this evening got more interesting,” Gweyr notes with a smile upon seeing the new arrivals. “Things are about to heat up.”
“A pleasure to meet you, Gweyr Autumnfire. ” He bows slightly. He can’t help but look upon her fire red hair and auburn eyes. Never has he seen an such as this! ”I never met a fire mage in my travels. I take it you are fascinated by fire and not so much with the other elements?

Perhaps he could make use of her skills if she is willing. He thinks to himself. Later on he will ask Gweyr, “Have you ever made magical items? Such as imbuing arrows with spells?”he asks curiously.
Arlen wrote:Then lastly another lady elf is introduce, “She's Lorelei Spellsong, a spell singer in the service of Milli. Lorelei is from Clan Chossum.”
“Good Evening Lorelei Spellsong. He says with a slight nod. “It has been a time since I heard the music of a songstress.” He says evenly as the thought of Lyonessa comes to him. “It always brought a smile to my face. Thought I do not know of Mili teachings."

Before going to bed, Laucian will pray to Elhonna for her guidance and spells.

Upon waking, Laucian will make his rounds to the other gryphon riders. Finally seeing to his own, Laucian pets it’s flanks and makes sure the barding is secured. Laucian then walks toward the entrance of the fort, spotting Elora, Laucian catches up to her and asks, “Any luck with the scrolls?

Once all everyone is out Gweyr goes about her duties, casting fireballs into the fort then adding a few spells he never seen before. Truly she is a mage worth her weight. As the job is done, the heat from the fire causes Laucian to stead his mount. “Well done, Gweyr. Those spells that you used I never seen before. Are they of your own making?” he asks curiously.

Laucian will mount up, “Safe travels to you all.”he says looking at each in turn his eyes linger on Gweyr for a moment. “Sadly our mounts are not built for two or I would gladly offer you a ride back to the Mother tree.” Looking back at the flames, “One step closer to securing our homes.”he says softly.
While this matter is being discussed, Laucian and the griffon riders finally reach Golden Peak. Laucian's cooshee's come running out to greet him after they land and start to mingle.
Laucian Lands his Gryphon and quickly dismounts with Taking the saddle bags from his gryphon he loosens the barding and removes it. He pats his Gryphon’s neck, “Thank you my friend. Go hunt and eat, truly you deserve it. “ A thought comes to him, “I think I will call you Aura.” Laucian will put her barding and saddle away before heading off to the gathering crowd. Two Cooshees bound toward him and he tries to calm them as they approach only to have them jump on him excitedly. "Easy, easy."he says as he kneels rubbing both the cooshees down and receiving licks and body bumps hello. A moment later Onyx finds is way meowing loudly as he rubs up against his leg. Laucian reaches down and picks up the black cat. "You been getting into trouble?"he asks the cat as he absently scratches the cat behind the ear.
Lilia wrote:Not long after that, Laucian and those flying with him return to the Mother Tree. Within moments several elves come to greet them and many of their companions are there. Lilia will be among those who go to greet the new arrivals.

“Welcome back, Laucian,” Lilia says in greeting. “What do you have to report?”
Excusing himself from a group of elves asking of their travels Laucian sees the new queen. “It is good to be back.” He says with slight smile. “The forts have been destroyed and the remaining orcs sent fleeing from our lands. There is more but I believe all the council should hear of it.” After a thought Laucian goes on, “I found scrolls of Fire giants and orcs thought I could not decipher their meaning. At the second fort there was an elf who could translate their meanings”. Did I miss anything while I was away?”
Valena wrote:“Welcome back, my friend,” Valena will say in greeting. “I trust your mission met with success?”
“Aye we did. The southern forts are no more. Our forces that were there should be returning in the a few days. How goes the trials of the Silver maidens?”
Talen wrote:Later on when Laucian returns, Talen will wave at him when their eyes meet. With the number of elves around him, Talen just keeps his distance. But given his height, 5'10", when compared to elves, he is very easy to pick out of a crowd.
Seeing Talen and Kylie in distance, Laucian notes the wave of the young half elf. He returns the wave and excuses himself. Walking up to the half elves, “How are you, my friends?

Allurien wrote:“But,” Allurien adds, “it is very easy to hate a group, such as a broad category such as orcs or drow.
“I appreciate that.” She says evenly, “I only know what I have experience in my short life. It is good to hear the thoughts of one with more life experience than I.”
Allurien wrote:“We elves tell horrible stories about the drow to our children.” Allurien says. “My mother told them to me and, unfortunately, I passed them on to my own daughter. In short they are painted as evil and depraved beings who consort with demons and enslave others. To an elf they are evil incarnate. Much like orcs, most elves would kill them on sight.”
‘I’ll bear that in mind.”She says thoughtfully. “but I will show the elves here they can trust a drow. As long as that drow is forthcoming, honest and good.”
Lilia wrote:“I'm afraid that I cannot explain it further,” Lilia adds. “I was a sleep when they left, so I am in the dark as much as you are. I just hope that there is a good reason for so many to be gone from the Mother Tree.”
“If a third of the clans are missing then there is a chance that they may not sit well with you being Queen. They may see to undermine you and dare say unseat you, that is if it is within their power.” She adds thoughtfully her Lavender eyes looking at Lilia, quietly hoping they do not plan to over throw her.
Lilia wrote:“You are young, Talen. You need to find your place in the world, and find out who you are. All I am proposing is that we set up an area where you half-elves can call home when visiting here. If you want to live here permanently or just be a visitor, the choice is yours.”
“You can always stay with me.” Looking reassuring at her brother. “I maybe a full elf now, but you will always be my brother.”

Lia goes down to see the Gryphons but is content to watch the riders arrive. Seeing Valena and Lilia walk towards Laucian , Lia does the same and wishes him greeting. “Good day, Laucian.”she does go further as she hears the others ask of his travels.

He speaks of the forts demise and news for the council. She is curious to an end but does not mention anything further. Waiting to hear the informationa t the meeting.
The last thing you shall hear is the bladesong of my sword.

Down at the last of the remaining southern forts, Laucian and his griffon riders have encountered one of the groups that came over the Rainbow Bridge in an attempt to save the Mother Tree. This group is led by one Arlen Brightsword. After the griffons are stabled for the evening, those who are not standing guard retire to the former fire giants tent that has been transformed into a common rest area.
Laucian wrote:“As do I. Recently, I was considered to represent Clan Gandalf. I turned it down for obvious reasons,” he indicates the gryphons. Laucian will then introduce the other Gryphons to Arlen.
“You are a wise man, indeed!” Arlen says with a hardy laugh.

Arlen is friendly to all the other griffon riders as they come in for landing. Not long after that, Arlen's younger brother Onas comes rushing up. He reports that the fort to the west is now burning. A quick check confirms this to be true. A guard rotation is set up for the evening and the elves retire to the common area for the evening.

Once in the common area, Arlen introduces the rest of his those who traveled with him over the Rainbow Bridge. First off is Tanyl Strongbow, a ranger in the service of Solonor Thelandira who is also from Clan Grunalf.
Laucian wrote:“Always good to see a fellow clansman.” he says with a slight grin. ”Laucian Nailo of Ehlonna.”
“That it is, clansman,” Tanyl says grasping hands. “How long has it been since you've seen home? From what I understand, this group left the Elfholds six years ago. Not long for an elf, but somethings things do change in a short amount of time.”
Laucian wrote:Laucian makes note of the historian, Elora Calauth.

“Yes?” Elora says looking up from her papers. She's mildly surprised to find Laucian in front of her as she wasn't really paying attention at what was going on around her. “Have I met you before?”

“You have more scrolls and hides? Elora asks, becoming more excited. “I would love to look at them. Maybe they will fill in some of the missing parts in the ones that I have.”

Once the scrolls and hides are given to Elora, she reads them and then adds them to her various existing piles of notes. The historian pays little attention to what is going on around her the rest of the evening as he focuses on her task.
Laucian wrote:“A pleasure to meet you, Gweyr Autumnfire. ” He bows slightly. He can’t help but look upon her fire red hair and auburn eyes. Never has he seen an such as this! ”I never met a fire mage in my travels. I take it you are fascinated by fire and not so much with the other elements?”
“Its better to burn orcs with,” Gweyr says with an almost evil smile. “But yes, fire has fascinated me since I was a child. The other elements not so much. I like it hot!”
Laucian wrote:Perhaps he could make use of her skills if she is willing. He thinks to himself. Later on he will ask Gweyr, “Have you ever made magical items? Such as imbuing arrows with spells?” he asks curiously.
“I have not, no,” Gweyr answers. “You need the proper spells to enchant items. Spells that I have not yet learned.”
Laucian wrote:“Good Evening Lorelei Spellsong. He says with a slight nod. “It has been a time since I heard the music of a songstress.” He says evenly as the thought of Lyonessa comes to him. “It always brought a smile to my face. Thought I do not know of Milli teachings."
“Pleasant evening, Laucian of Ehlonna,” Lorelei answers with a bow. “Milli is the God of Song and the Guardian of Singers. He gives the world the gift of song and music.”

The groups mingle and share an evening meal of nuts and fruits. Lorelei plays music on her harp and sings elfin songs and Gweyr will dance with those willing. A pleasant times is had by all, save for Elora who works long into the night studying her scrolls and making copious notes.

Next morning, after breakfast, the elves prepare to burn the last fort down. They gather up their belongs and the griffon riders ready their mounts for the trip to come.
Laucian wrote:Upon waking, Laucian will make his rounds to the other gryphon riders. Finally seeing to his own, Laucian pets it’s flanks and makes sure the barding is secured. Laucian then walks toward the entrance of the fort, spotting Elora, Laucian catches up to her and asks, “Any luck with the scrolls?
“Some,” the historian answers. “But what I have found out confuses me. These glasses are a family heirloom. They change the words that I read into elvish. Only the words are translated and sometimes its not an exact translation. Context can be missing sometimes what one word means in elvish may have a different meaning in another language. It's great big puzzle.”

“But what I have found is troubling,” Elora continues. “The notes of the humans that were here indicate that they come from a place called Raven's Claw. That place seems to be a city that is part of the Kingdom of Sunderland. It seems to lie to the east, perhaps on the other side of the mountains. If that should be the case, then they might be under the rule of the Witch-King of Vassa.”

“The notes of the humans seem to indicate that they are tired of serving Moorkroft, but I am not sure just who that is. They also speak of trying to find the 'arrival point' for something that they call a 'travel column'. I have no idea what that means. They are also plotting to defeat the orcs and the fire giants. They want to use the arrival point to launch attacks against their enemies.”

“The fire giants are a different story,” Elora continues. “They consider the orcs and humans only as tools to use or discard when necessary. They live in a place to the south that they call the 'Hellfurnaces'. I have to assume that it is a volcanic region, otherwise the climate this far north would be too cold for them.”

“These giants seem to be at war with, or competing against what I must assume to be frost giants who come from a place called Frost Haven farther to the north. These giants are looking to control something that they call a 'pedestal' that leads to a place they call the 'City of the Gods'. It says that they need to go to this place so that they can go home to 'Ostoria', another place that I never heard of. I have to guess that this pedestal they want to control is further to the north of the Sylvan Realm, as they are talking about diverting a lava flow to melt the area.”

“Does any of this make any sense to you?” Elora asks, confusion clear in her face. “I'll continue to study these communications and hope that I can learn more before we return to the Mother Tree.”

After oil is poured Gweyr does the honors and the fort rapidly goes up and her the effects of her fire magic.
Laucian wrote:Once all everyone is out Gweyr goes about her duties, casting fireballs into the fort then adding a few spells he never seen before. Truly she is a mage worth her weight. As the job is done, the heat from the fire causes Laucian to stead his mount. “Well done, Gweyr. Those spells that you used I never seen before. Are they of your own making?” he asks curiously.
Gweyr is admiring her handiwork as Laucian approaches her. “They are standard spells, but given a fiery twist,” she easily answers. “My skill as a fire mage allows me to change most damaging spells into a flaming variation. For instance, my Magic Missiles come out as bolts of fire. Instead of casting Color Spray, I get a spray of flames from my hands and so on.”
Laucian wrote:Laucian will mount up, “Safe travels to you all.”he says looking at each in turn his eyes linger on Gweyr for a moment. “Sadly our mounts are not built for two or I would gladly offer you a ride back to the Mother tree.”
“We'll catch up with you in a few days,” Arlen vows. “It will be a pleasure to walk through this ancient elfin forest. We'll meet you at the Mother Tree.”

Goodbyes are said and the two groups part company. The other griffon riders talk about the elfin ladies they just met. Gweyr and Lorelei are very popular among the lads.

That evening, Lia and Allurien talk at the home of the Feador Clan Councilwoman's home.
Lia wrote:“I appreciate that.” She says evenly, “I only know what I have experience in my short life. It is good to hear the thoughts of one with more life experience than I.”

“I've fought drow a few times,” Allurien admits. “They are a ruthless foe. Given the choice, I'd rather face orcs. They have no subtlety at all.”
Lia wrote:‘I’ll bear that in mind.”She says thoughtfully. “but I will show the elves here they can trust a drow. As long as that drow is forthcoming, honest and good.”
“You'll need to know that most elves have never heard of Eilistraee before. When it comes to the drow, the only god that comes up is Lloth. Your Eilistraee and any other of their Dark Seldarine are rarely mentioned.”

November 26th, 571 CR:

By mid-day Valena and Laucian have returned for their excursions into the Sylvan Realm. Friends are reunited and news is shared. The unicorns and griffons are sent off to rest in the forest and get some privacy. Laucian is mobbed by his cooshee's and his pet cat onyx comes up when the area is less dangerous.

Later on, after the discussion starts to fade, Queen Lilia goes in search of High Keeper Alanik to question him what he knows about the Elfin Palace. Alanik is found down below Golden Peak tending overseeing the tending to the Mother Tree. With the six centuries of neglect, there is much to do. Those limbs of the trees around the Mother Tree are being removed so that she has more room. Down on the ground the overgrowth is being removed and fruit providing plants located and cataloged.

“Your Majesty,” Alanik says upon seeing Lilia. “How can I help you?”

After Lilia explains that she's looking for information about the Elfin Palace, Alanik will say. “I know a little, but not a lot. By the time I was born, the other elf clans had all moved on to the Elfholds, so their clan holds were all deserted. The Elfin Palace was secured with nature magic to protect it from intruders. An enchanted growth of thorns covered everything but the griffon landing areas.”

“When I was younger, my father would take me around the Realm to inspect the other Clan Holds and the Elfin Palace. About every decade or so. From what I understand, the island the Palace sits on also includes the Clan Long Runner School of Magic. From the arrival platforms, you need leaf shaped pendants to activate the tree doors to travel further. There are numerous areas within the island that you can only reach with the pendants while the thorns are active. From what my father said, with the thorns gone you can reach the other areas easily enough, but it is still faster using the leaf pendants. He also said that there were different types of pendants made from different types of wood. The students of the School of Magic had one kind of pendent and that opened only certain tree doors. There were other pendants for visitors, for guards and those associated with the Elfin King. My father had a guard pendant, but we never really went all that far into the Elfin Palace. Anything of any importance was gone thousands of years before I was born. We were just seeing if anything had happened since the last inspection.”

“Does that help you, Your Majesty?”

GM Notes:

Elora's glasses basically work like Google Translate. Enter a foreign phrase, translate it into English and it might make sense. That's basically what is happening here.

When it comes to mages who specialize in a certain effect, I tend to just use the base spells and change their special effects, much like you do in Champions. Kalandor, the Ice Mage that was fought at Fort Fletcher and then later at the Ice Palace had her spells changed to cold effects. For instance, her Stoneskin was like a sheath of ice that cracked as it took damage. Gweyr's magic changes her damaging spells into Fire instead of the energy that otherwise would use. Back in the Q-link days, I had a NPC Lightning Mage in Borderlands by the name of Tevra. Her spells came out as electrical versions. This approach is simpler than just making a new spell based on an existing spell and just changing the type of energy used.

If you haven't checked lately, I have been adding more and more to the Campaign History section. I'm half way through October now and past the point where the forum games have begun.

You can also make use of the Character Biographies section to put write ups of your character's history or use it as a place to put notes. It sometimes helps to put character history into order and it could be useful as a reference tool down the road.

Now what?

Lilia:
Valena wrote:“He's gone off on a mission already?” Valena asks curiously. “Do you know where?”
“No,” Lilia answers. “I was sleeping when this all occurred.”
Valena wrote:“Twist my arm if you must, Your Majesty,” Valena teases. “At any rate, I will not venture far if trouble arises.”
“Thank you, Valena,” Lilia answers. “Hopefully you'll be able to relax for a time.”
Talen wrote:“We can ask him when he returns,” Talen adds with a shrug. Clearly no one here knows any more than he does.
“I plan to,” Lilia vows. “Going off without telling anyone where they were going is irresponsible.”
Lia wrote:“If a third of the clans are missing then there is a chance that they may not sit well with you being Queen. They may see to undermine you and dare say unseat you, that is if it is within their power.” She adds thoughtfully her Lavender eyes looking at Lilia, quietly hoping they do not plan to over throw her.
“A third of the Clan Council is away,” Lilia corrects. “Not a third of the clans themselves. Its hard to tell how many went with Chandra, as there have been adventuring bands away for days now. Do not forget that I won by a majority vote, while there may be a few unhappy individuals they will learn to accept me as Queen.”
Talen wrote:“That's basically what grandmother was doing when she sent me and Lia out into the world. That's where we met you and then all this craziness happened. But I am glad that you understand our perspective.”
“It is a common occurrence among all races,” Lilia adds. “We all need to get out into the world and grow from our experiences. I would not be here today, changed so much from what I was if I had stayed home.”
Kylie wrote:"I understand and agree with you, though I will likely ask you for advice or information now and again," Kylie says, her brow furrowed in thought. "This will be a very large undertaking, and I have little experience with such things. No doubt Mom and some of the other elves can provide ideas and advice as well."
“All of you,” Lilia says to the half-elves, “will always have my ear should you need it.”

“Oh, Kylie,' Lilia continues, “I have a favor to ask of you. At your convenience I would like to look at your spell books. When I was changed by the All-Father, I gained my priestly abilities, but in turn I lost some of my skill as a mage. I am no longer a Transmuter, but just a generalist mage now. In short those schools that used to be blocked to me are now open. You may have some spells from those schools that I might wish to learn.”
Talen wrote:“We had talked about taking a look around there since Lia is interested in going there,” Talen notes. “And it wouldn't draw much away from the Mother Tree. What do you say?”
“You might wish to what until you can get more to go with you,” Lilia answers after a moment's thought. “Moorkroft was an archmage and he might have left more traps behind. Going there now might be to dangerous. For instance, there could be more of those deadly illusions we encountered before.”

Lilia watches and smiles as Laucian is reunited with his animal companions. They had missed him and he had missed them.
Laucian wrote:Excusing himself from a group of elves asking of their travels Laucian sees the new queen. “It is good to be back.” He says with slight smile. “The forts have been destroyed and the remaining orcs sent fleeing from our lands. There is more but I believe all the council should hear of it.”
“That is good news,” Lilia happily says. “Alas only six of the nine on the council are currently here at Golden Peak. The voting went as expected and I was named Queen and Chandra Head of the Council. However, Chandra left sometime during the night with his followers to engage in what we assume to be some form of danger. The Councilmen for Clans Red Arrow and Long Runner are absent as well. I had assumed that it was orcs they were hunting, but if you tell me that the orcs have already been driven off, then what are they doing?”
Laucian wrote:After a thought Laucian goes on, “I found scrolls of Fire giants and orcs thought I could not decipher their meaning. At the second fort there was an elf who could translate their meanings.”
“Was this elf able to translate the scrolls and notes?” Lilia will ask curiously. “We know so little about our enemies, that almost anything will help.”
Laucian wrote:“Did I miss anything while I was away?”
“Mostly just the politics,” Lilia easily answers. “I kept watch on your cooshee's and Onyx. They were well behaved, but did miss you. Oh, I did offer our half-elves the opportunity to build their own community here in the Sylvan realm. To make their own Clan Hold.”

“I believe it does, High Keeper,” Lilia answers. “Some of this we learned when we visited the Palace during our quest to save the Mother Tree, but you added some new information. I was unaware that the island also held the Clan Long Runner School of Magic. We did find the leaf pendants before, but I didn't know that there were different kinds of them. At some point we will need to explore the Palace and remove the thorns that protects it. Thank you for your insights.”

With this information in hand, Lilia will catch up to her friends. She'll gather them later in the evening and will reveal what the High Keeper told her.

“The High Keeper did shed some light on the Elfin Palace. Alas, it has been locked down by that thorny growth for protection for thousands of years now. Since it was summoned, it stands to reason that it can be dispelled in some manner.”

“He also said that the Clan Long Runner School of Magic was also part of the island and its protection system. There are different types of leaf pendants and these will open different tree doors. The school students had one type of pendant, the guards another and those associated with the Elfin King a third.”

Turning to Kylie, Lia and Talen specifically, “If you do go out to look for a place to build, you may want to explore the city beside the palace. Maybe you can find some more pendants or maybe even a map for the Palace and School complex.”
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

Lilia wrote:“No,” Lilia answers. “I was sleeping when this all occurred.”
“So, he and his followers scurried away under the cover of darkness,” Valena bluntly notes. “This is troubling news. I will speak to the animals and see if any of them can shed more light on this mystery.”
Lilia wrote:“Thank you, Valena,” Lilia answers. “Hopefully you'll be able to relax for a time.”
“I will relax when there is no more danger to the Mother Tree,” Valena vows. “Until that time, we must stay vigilant for any threat.”
Kylie wrote:"That is a steep challenge, Valena," Kylie says, "but already three of you have met that challenge. There will be more in time."
“You are correct, Kylie,” Valena says. “There may be more chosen in the days to come. We'll just have to wait and see.”
Laucian wrote:“Aye we did. The southern forts are no more. Our forces that were there should be returning in the a few days. How goes the trials of the Silver maidens?”
“Good riddance those enemy forts, if you ask me,” Valena agrees. “As for the trials, they went well. The ladies you brought to the hidden griffon stable were both accepted by unicorns. We explored the Silver Maidens Order Hall and retrieved tabards and barding for our mounts. I sent River Blossom and the other unicorns away so that they could feed and relax in the forest.”

“In the days to come, there is another task that we should see to,” Valena adds. “A high priest will need to be chosen for the Shrine to Ehlonna so that it can be maintained and young priests trained. Given our current status, neither of us is suited for this task, but I feel we should keep abreast with what goes on a the shrine. What do you think, Laucian?”

Later that evening, Queen Lilia reveals what she learned about the Elfin Palace.
Lilia wrote:“The High Keeper did shed some light on the Elfin Palace. Alas, it has been locked down by that thorny growth for protection for thousands of years now. Since it was summoned, it stands to reason that it can be dispelled in some manner.”
“My guess is that there is also a temple in the island complex,” Valena interrupts. “Perhaps dedicated to Corellon himself. The altar of the temple may have been used to summon the thorny growth. Once consecrated, the high priest of the temple can use the altar to invoke various forms of magic. That might be what we are dealing with here.”

Talen:
Lilia wrote:“I plan to,” Lilia vows. “Going off without telling anyone where they were going is irresponsible.”
“Looks like Chandra got someone angry,” Talen thinks to himself.

“Yes it is,” Talen says out loud, agreeing with the Elfin Queen.
Valena wrote:“So, he and his followers scurried away under the cover of darkness,” Valena bluntly notes. “This is troubling news. I will speak to the animals and see if any of them can shed more light on this mystery.”
Talen laughs out loud and then tries to hold it in, trying not to draw attention to himself. Valena finally came out and said what many were already thinking.
Kylie wrote:Kylie snorts in amusement. "Sherwood always did have a way with words."
“You know, I just realized that you know my human relatives better than I do. All the time you spent with Sherwood and Jallarzi. I need to do something about that.”
Lilia wrote:Kylie nods, understanding the feeling that her friend is expressing. "Yeah, we are going to need to figure out how we can get good meat here in the Sylvan Realm without offending the elves," she replies with sigh.
“Well logically, we're not going to be able to build this town for half-elves within the forest itself,” Talen notes. “Maybe beside it, but not in it. It's almost too bad that they burned down all those forts. One could have been used as a starting point instead of starting from scratch. I figure we're going to need fresh water and plains to grow crops and raise animals. Just have to find a good location.”
Kylie wrote:"It is good that you know me so well, Talen," Kylie replies with a smirk. "It saves me having to explain it to you..."
Once more Talen cannot be sure if Kylie is being serious or just joking. He hopes it the later and not the former.
Lilia wrote:“You might wish to wait until you can get more to go with you,” Lilia answers after a moment's thought. “Moorkroft was an archmage and he might have left more traps behind. Going there now might be to dangerous. For instance, there could be more of those deadly illusions we encountered before.”
Talen can't help but remember the illusion of the green dragon that frightened him so much. He had almost blocked it from his memory.

“I guess you're right,” Talen admits. “I forgot about that.”
Lilia wrote:“All of you,” Lilia says to the half-elves, “will always have my ear should you need it.”
Talen nods his thanks to the Queen's statement.
Kylie wrote:Kylie will wait with her friend, observing how Laucian interacts with the crowd of elves around him. As they wait, Kylie will suggest to Talen that she could make and share with him one of her father's favorite dishes if then can get a hold of some fresh rabbit meat.
“Are there even rabbits in this forest?” Talen wonders. “Would the elves freak out if we killed one? I mean, we've seen how protective they are about the forest and the creatures in it. I don't want to accidentally offend them.”
Lia wrote:“You can always stay with me.” Looking reassuring at her brother. “I maybe a full elf now, but you will always be my brother.”
“Thanks, Lia,” Talen answers. “You'll always be my little sister.”
Laucian wrote:Seeing Talen and Kylie in distance, Laucian notes the wave of the young half elf. He returns the wave and excuses himself. Walking up to the half elves, “How are you, my friends?
“Hi, Laucian,” Talen says in greeting. “I guess you could say that we are trying to fit in around here.”

Later on, Lilia speaks about what she learned about the Elfin Palace. Not only is the palace of the ruler on the island, but a school of magic as well!

“Maybe they left some magic items or spells behind?” Talen wonders.

Valena speaks up talking about how a temple altar might be the source of the thorns covering the island. Talen isn't sure how an altar could do that, but he isn't a priest either.

Lilia wrote:“A third of the Clan Council is away,” Lilia corrects. “Not a third of the clans themselves. Its hard to tell how many went with Chandra, as there have been adventuring bands away for daysnow. Do not forget that I won by a majority vote, while there may be a few unhappy individuals they will learn to accept me as Queen.”
Kylie grimaces in response to Lilia's statement. She can only hope that it will be as easy and smooth as the queen suggests.
Valena wrote:“So, he and his followers scurried away under the cover of darkness,” Valena bluntly notes. “This is troubling news. I will speak to the animals and see if any of them can shed more light on this mystery.”
Talen wrote:Talen laughs out loud and then tries to hold it in, trying not to draw attention to himself. Valena finally came out and said what many were already thinking.
Talen bursts out laughing, drawing an odd look from Kylie. This seems a poor subject for humor.

Kylie turns back to the group. "If they have not returned by nightfall, I may memorize a couple of spells this evening that may get us more information."
Talen wrote:“You know, I just realized that you know my human relatives better than I do. All the time you spent with Sherwood and Jallarzi. I need to do something about that.”
"You know, I hadn't thought of it that way," Kylie replies thoughtfully. "In the future, I may be able to help with that. Sherwood provided me with guidance that will enable me to Teleport to their home, once I learn that spell. We could visit them whenever we like after that."
Talen wrote:“Well logically, we're not going to be able to build this town for half-elves within the forest itself,” Talen notes. “Maybe beside it, but not in it. I figure we're going to need fresh water and plains to grow crops and raise animals. Just have to find a good location.”
"Those are some very good thoughts, Talen. Picking a location will be one of the first considerations. I think we'll want someplace that isn't too close to any of the existing clan homes so that we are not encroaching on anyone else's area, and so that we have room to grow. I plan to talk with both Lilia and the High Keeper about it."

Lilia wrote:“All of you,” Lilia says to the half-elves, “will always have my ear should you need it.”
"Thank you, Queen Lilia," Kylie says with a respectful bow. "I will try not to pester you too much."
Lilia wrote:“Oh, Kylie,' Lilia continues, “I have a favor to ask of you.
"Of course, Lilia," Kylie replies with a nod. "We have long shared our spell books, and I see no reason for that practice to change. I will bring them by this evening, if you are not too busy."
Lilia wrote:“You might wish to what until you can get more to go with you,” Lilia answers after a moment's thought. “Moorkroft was an archmage and he might have left more traps behind. Talen wrote:“I guess you're right,” Talen admits. “I forgot about that.”
Kylie nods. "You are both right that we will need to be careful in any investigation of that area. There is no way of knowing what may have happened in that area - or the rest of the Sylvan Realm - in the elves' absense."
Talen wrote:“Are there even rabbits in this forest?” Talen wonders. “Would the elves freak out if we killed one? I mean, we've seen how protective they are about the forest and the creatures in it. I don't want to accidentally offend them.”
Kylie smiles at her friend. "We shall see, as there will be much to negotiate. Once we have selected a location, I believe we may be able to set our own rules within that area. Also, I'm no hunter, but I think rabbits live in many areas, so we may not need to enter the forest for that. And I suspect that our cooshee friends may prove to be skilled hunters," Kylie says, looking down and stroking the fur on Dapple's back.

GM Notes:
Does the team have or know of a map of the Sylvan Realm?
The group was given a map to the Sylvan Realm by the Elfin King back in the Elfhiolds at the start of the quest. Other maps were also found in the main meeting area of the hidden griffon stable and also in the meeting area for the Order of the Golden Griffons on top of the Mother Tree at Golden Peak. The later is the same area where the council meetings have been taking place. The maps in the griffon areas did note where other stables were located at.

The map that Lilia was talking about was for the arrangement of the various areas that make up the Elfin Palace / Magic School on the island. That is not something that you have seen yet.

If you were referring to a map of the Sylvan Realm to look at for a location, there is one in the Map section of the Private Area in the Elf section.

The town beside the Palace, Pinit, was briefly visited when the group was escorting the young centaur home, but wasn't really explored at all. The group basically camped there for the evening.

I was asked about this before and recently I did come across that I had posted just how many Feador Elves there were now in the Sylvan Realm. Nearly 200 elves were released from their suspended animation in the trees, but nearly 300 elves had been killed while in those same trees. Some 80 adventurers had been in the Rainbow Bridge waiting to be released. So, there are not quite 300 elves now in the Sylvan Realm. The number of elves that may have gone with Chandra, all being adventurers since the Feadors that had been here already were dedicated to tending to the Mother Tree, are probably in the 30-40 range.
Try it and find out!

Kylie turns back to the group. "If they have not returned by nightfall, I may memorize a couple of spells this evening that may get us more information."

Lilia is about to say something when Talen starts to laugh, but Kylie beats her to the punch. Instead she just raises an eyebrow at the inappropriate reaction. Must be his human side she silently surmises.

“That is a prudent course of action,” Lilia agrees with what Valena and Kylie stated. Once more she is disappointed in her fellow Priest of Corellon. “If nothing changes come morning we will investigate this matter thoroughly, unless Valena learns something dire from the animals.”
Valena wrote:“I will relax when there is no more danger to the Mother Tree,” Valena vows. “Until that time, we must stay vigilant for any threat.”
Lilia just nods her thanks to the leader of the Silver Maidens. “Your diligence is greatly appreciated.”
Talen wrote:“I guess you're right,” Talen admits. “I forgot about that.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie nods. "You are both right that we will need to be careful in any investigation of that area. There is no way of knowing what may have happened in that area - or the rest of the Sylvan Realm - in the elves' absence."
“That's partially why I was so pleased that Laucian and Valena have returned,” Lilia states. “Once the issue with Chandra is settled and the Mother Tree is safe, we'll need to scout the rest of the Sylvan Realm. We were so focused on restoring the Mother Tree that we didn't take our time and look around. I figured that this is a task that they could do while you half-elves figure out where to place your community. I am sure as more and more elves return over the Rainbow Bridge, that they will wish to settle in their former Clan Holds once more. In time, life will return to normal in the Sylvan Realms.”
Kylie wrote:"Thank you, Queen Lilia," Kylie says with a respectful bow. "I will try not to pester you too much."
“You're not a pest,” Lilia answers easily. “None of you are.”
Kylie wrote:"Of course, Lilia," Kylie replies with a nod. "We have long shared our spell books, and I see no reason for that practice to change. I will bring them by this evening, if you are not too busy."
“Thank you,” Lilia answers.
Valena wrote:“My guess is that there is also a temple in the island complex,” Valena interrupts. “Perhaps dedicated to Corellon himself. The altar of the temple may have been used to summon the thorny growth. Once consecrated, the high priest of the temple can use the altar to invoke various forms of magic. That might be what we are dealing with here.”
“That could very well be,” Lilia says in agreement. Seeing the confusion on Talen's face, she'll add, “In some ways the altar of a temple is similar to a Spell Engine. The High Priest who is bonded to the altar can use the devotional energy it gathers much like a Spell Engine that is powered by magic. This energy can be used to create priestly affects that you would associate with that particular deity. Since the All-Father also oversees nature among the elves, that an altar of his could produce these thorny growths is a reasonable assumption.”
Talen wrote:“Maybe they left some magic items or spells behind?” Talen wonders.
“I would tend to believe that nothing was left behind,” Lilia surmises. “There was no quick evacuation of the Sylvan Realm because of some disaster, this was a case of the Realm being too crowded for all the clans. King Dorwynn created the Rainbow Bridge that took him to the Elfholds. Some of each clan bearing a branch of the Mother Tree went with him. These scouts searched the Elfholds to find a place to establish their new Clan Holds. Once a place was found to start anew they planted their branches to grow the Daughter Trees. In time more and more of the clans came over the Rainbow Bridge. I imagine that this took decades to accomplish. So, its my opinion that each clan packed up everything that they needed to settle into the Elfholds. I doubt that they left much, if anything, behind.”
Kylie wrote:"That is a good point," Kylie says. "I was not really aware of the town around the palace. That may be the best place to start our investigation, once we know more about what Chandra and his friends are up to."
“Given that the School of Magic is on the island across from it, the town must be the Long Runner Clan Hold,” Lilia suggests. “They are the most magically orientated of the seven great clans. I believe that it was called Pinit.”

A course of action is starting to come together. The matter with Chandra will be dealt with first and then scouting, provided that it doesn't leave the Mother Tree unprotected.
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

Tanyl wrote:“That it is, clansman,” Tanyl says grasping hands. “How long has it been since you've seen home? From what I understand, this group left the Elfholds six years ago. Not long for an elf, but somethings things do change in a short amount of time.”
“Not as long as you, only but a handful of years. I have been adventuring with Validar of Pyris up until a few months ago. It is true, not many things stand the test of time. Hopefully we can make amends for our absence here.” He says in reply.
Elora wrote:“Yes?” Elora says looking up from her papers.

“No I don’t think I have had that honor.”he says easily. “Aye, there are some from the other fort and I believe some of my companions back at the mother tree have more. Perhaps when you return you might like to interrupt them?”he asks curiously.
Gweyr wrote:“Its better to burn orcs with,” Gweyr says with an almost evil smile. “But yes, fire has fascinated me since I was a child. The other elements not so much. I like it hot!”
I prefer a more direct approach. Be sides the smell of burning orcs is not one I relish, not to mention the woodlands.” he adds thoughtfully.”
Gweyr wrote:“I have not, no,” Gweyr answers. “You need the proper spells to enchant items. Spells that I have not yet learned.”
“A pity, I would of liked to see if there was a way to but a fireball spell onto the head of an arrow. Perhaps when the rainbow bridge is open again more of our people will return.” He says in return to the fire mage.
Elora wrote:" Some,” the historian answers.

“I have heard stories of this witch-king and his domain. Moorkroft was a mage of some power. He would somehow extract the life essence of the elves slumbering in the trees which gave him the looks of a false elf. An arrival point? The Rainbow bridge perhaps? He asks more himself then anyone around.”Laucian says with a disdain for the man elf but thoughtful of the rainbow bridge.
Elora wrote:“The fire giants are a different story,” Elora continues.

Sadly, the most I know of the Giants is the Hellfurnaces, is that they are south of here. I know not of any pedestal or City of Gods. To what ever end our lands are in the middle of this war. The council will need to hear of this.”keeping his thoughts to himself about the subject.
Lilia wrote:“That is good news,” Lilia happily says.

“Was this elf able to translate the scrolls and notes?” Lilia will ask curiously. “We know so little about our enemies, that almost anything will help.”
“Then perhaps it cannot wait for the council.”he adds thoughtfully stroking Onyx’s back. “Aye, she was able to but with some minor mistakes due to our language and theirs. Her name is Elora and she will be back in a few days if you wish to speak with her before the counsel.

“Apparently the Fire Giants of that of the Hellfurnances to the south. The Ice giants have a home to the north?, Frost Haven. The Humans did work for Moorkroft, but their allegiance is to Vassa and the Witch King. Add to that Xorg of the orcs.

We have enemies to the north, south and east, from what I understand The Giants are at odds and a war is brewing. They are looking for a way to get to the City of the gods and we are in the middle. We need to secure our lands and hold them until the rainbow bridge opens once. We will need to send word to the Elfholds so that when the bridge does appear they will know of our plight before their arrival.
Lilia wrote:“Mostly just the politics,” Lilia easily answers. “I kept watch on your cooshee's and Onyx. They were well behaved, but did miss you. Oh, I did offer our half-elves the opportunity to build their own community here in the Sylvan realm. To make their own Clan Hold.”
“Thank you to seeing them. I would be hard pressed to find a better friend to do so.” Laucian hears the words of letting the half elves a place within the realms. “It is a beautiful proposition yet I am afraid one that will met with resistance. If I can help in anyway to give them a foothold here I will do so. They did a great service to our people and deserve the honor of calling it home as much as we.
Valena wrote:“Good riddance those enemy forts, if you ask me,” Valena agrees.

“Time will tell, my friend. I fear that the smoke will give warning to those that may seek us harm.”he says evenly looking Valena in the eyes. ”I agree. Perhaps we should share the duties until a high priest is chosen?
Talen wrote:“Hi, Laucian,” Talen says in greeting. “I guess you could say that we are trying to fit in around here.”
“You do indeed fit in my friend. Every elf here knows what you have done and in a sense are in your debt. Give it time and you may find a home when your wanderings come to an end.

“The elves have many enemies, Ice Giants, Fire Giants, Humans to the east. From some of the scrolls there is trouble brewing to what extent I cannot be sure. But if we do not secure our home we will lose it as quickly as we have found it.”he says to Kylie.
Til Ehlonna's will be done

Its hard to tell how many went with Chandra, as there have been adventuring bands away for days now. Do not forget that I won by a majority vote, while there may be a few unhappy individuals they will learn to accept me as Queen.”
“And we will defend our Queen, if it comes to that. “ she says with a reassuring anile her sword hand resting on the pommel of her sword.
Lilia wrote:Turning to Kylie, Lia and Talen specifically, “If you do go out to look for a place to build, you may want to explore the city beside the palace. Maybe you can find some more pendants or maybe even a map for the Palace and School complex,
“When the time comes, we will do as you suggest. I just hope there are no more illusions of dragons…”
Lia wrote:“Thanks, Lia,” Talen answers. “You'll always be my little sister.”
“I maybe little but I pack a punch!” she says with a grin and playfully taps her brother on her arm with her fist.
The last thing you shall hear is the bladesong of my sword.

Post Continued:

November 24th:

Down at the last of the southern forts, the Griffon Riders have met up with one of the adventuring bands that passed over the Rainbow Bridge. The two groups meet and talk.
Laucian wrote:“Not as long as you, only but a handful of years. I have been adventuring with Validar of Pyris up until a few months ago. It is true, not many things stand the test of time. Hopefully we can make amends for our absence here.” He says in reply.
“Indeed we shall,” Taryn agrees. “Perhaps when there is enough from Clan Grunalf we shall reclaim our Clan Hold here in the Sylvan Realm.”
Laucian wrote:“No I don’t think I have had that honor.”he says easily. “Aye, there are some from the other fort and I believe some of my companions back at the mother tree have more. Perhaps when you return you might like to inspect them?”he asks curiously.
“I would love to,” Elora eagerly agrees. “Hold a moment, are you one of those who helped restore the Mother Tree?”
Laucian wrote:“I prefer a more direct approach. Be sides the smell of burning orcs is not one I relish, not to mention the woodlands,” he adds thoughtfully.
“I would never burn woodlands!” Gweyr says defensively. “I may love fire, but I am still an elf and I would not knowingly harm a tree. The smell of burning orcs isn't so bad if you are far enough away.”
Laucian wrote:“A pity, I would of liked to see if there was a way to but a fireball spell onto the head of an arrow. Perhaps when the rainbow bridge is open again more of our people will return.” He says in return to the fire mage.
“I would imagine that to do such a thing would require spells beyond my skill level,” Gweyr notes. “Besides it might be just as dangerous to carry around such a enchanted arrow. One wrong bump and boom!”

November 25th:

The following morning, the last of the forts is set ablaze. Elora informs Laucian on what she has learned from the scrolls.
Laucian wrote:“I have heard stories of this Witch-Ling and his domain. Moorkroft was a mage of some power. He would somehow extract the life essence of the elves slumbering in the trees which gave him the looks of a false elf.” Laucian says with a disdain for the man elf.
“He sounds like a thoroughly evil man,” Elora agrees. “When time is not so pressing, I would like to talk to you this Moorkroft more in depth for historical records.”

November 26th:

The following afternoon Valena and shortly after that Laucian both return to the Mother Tree. Valena learns that Chandra and his followers have left the Mother Tree. Concerned the Priestess decides to speak to the animals around Golden Peak to see if they know anything.

A particularly chatty squirrel tells Valena he was woken from his sleep when a fierce wind nearly blew him off of a branch. When the squirrel gathered its wits, it saw several gigantic birds in the area. Many elves climbed on them and then flew away. Valena thinks the squirrel said that they went north.

Not long after that, Laucian returns. Once the initial greetings are exchanged, the Ranger of Ehlonna reveals what the historian Elora discovered from the various notes found in the enemy forts.

To the south lie the home of the Fire Giants, the Hellfurnaces. These giants seem to be in conflict with Frost Giants that are believed to come further north from a place called Frosthaven. The two races of giants seem to be competing to control something that they call the Pedestal. This Pedestal seems to be something that allows them to travel to what they call the 'City of the Gods' and from this city they can then reach Ostoria which seems to be the giants home. The Fire Giants are considering a plan to divert a lava flow to the Pedestal so that they can control it, assuming that it is currently in an icy location.

The humans come from the east and the wyvern riders were instructed to locate the 'arrival point' for what they call a 'travel column'. They humans plot to use this arrival point to remove their enemies including Moorkroft.

Lastly, the orcs live in a place called Xorg that is to the north of the Sylvan Realm. Based on the tone of the messages, Frosthaven sounds like it is even further north than Xorg.

The fort that the Chosen took out was the one directly north of the Mother Tree. Those orc women and children who fled from the fort did so following a road that led north into the mountains, seemingly the same direction that Chandra and his followers took...

Now what?

“I would like to see that happen sooner rather than later. I also have to see to seeing the other Gryphon stables are found and manned. With the help of our friends. We can patrol the forest from above and below.”” He adds thoughtfully to his clansman.
Elora wrote:“I would love to,” Elora eagerly agrees. “Hold a moment, are you one of those who helped restore the Mother Tree?”
A slight smiles comes to the elf’s face as he sees the excitement in the historian’s face. “Aye, I was asked to help save the Sylvan realm. We faced many trials; a archmage named Moorkroft and with help of our allies a black dragon.
Gweyr wrote:“I would never burn woodlands!” Gweyr says defensively. “I may love fire, but I am still an elf and I would not knowingly harm a tree. The smell of burning orcs isn't so bad if you are far enough away.
“Forgive me, I did not mean to offend. In truth, I am not one to talk, I have killed countless orcs by blade and bow. Some would say I relish in it,” he says with a snort of a chuckle. ”I only wish our people safe and not have to suffer as I have. If it means throwing orcs from the ramparts, I will do so.” Not knowing why he is saying this to her Laucian quickly stops and looks at the fire mage apologetically. "Your heart is in the right place and one can see the passion and beauty of your work." And not just the beauty of her appearance he thinks as he sees the other elves in his group look at her.
Gweyr wrote:“I would imagine that to do such a thing would require spells beyond my skill level,” Gweyr notes. “Besides it might be just as dangerous to carry around such a enchanted arrow. One wrong bump and boom!”
“Perhaps but the possibilities are intriguing. “
Elora wrote:“He sounds like a thoroughly evil man,” Elora agrees. “When time is not so pressing, I would like to talk to you this Moorkroft more in depth for historical records.”
“He was. And some of his magic still lingers within the Palace. Or so it is believed.” he looks to the historian, “I would like that though some of the others may have more details you wish to know. I’ll be near the stables on Golden Peak. If you are free, feel free to seek me out.”

More to come as the others post.

Valena:
Talen wrote:Talen laughs out loud and then tries to hold it in, trying not to draw attention to himself. Valena finally came out and said what many were already thinking.
Talen draws a rather pointed stare from Valena from his inappropriate behavior.
Kylie wrote:Kylie turns back to the group. "If they have not returned by nightfall, I may memorize a couple of spells this evening that may get us more information."
Lilia wrote:“That is a prudent course of action,” Lilia agrees with what Valena and Kylie stated. Once more she is disappointed in her fellow Priest of Corellon. “If nothing changes come morning we will investigate this matter thoroughly, unless Valena learns something dire from the animals.”
“Aye, let me see what the animals know,” Valena says.

Valena steps away to talk to the many birds, squirrels and other creatures that live around Golden Peak. Most don't know anything. This will be a time consuming task. The Priestess of Ehlonna steps away from this task when the subject of the thorny growth at the Elfin Palace comes up. Valena suspects that the effect is tied to a temple altar.
Lilia wrote:“That could very well be,” Lilia says in agreement.
“I am sure that the Lady of the Forests could provide such a miracle,” Valena adds. “But a temple dedicated to the All-Father does make the most sense.”

Laucian returns and Valena speaks with her fellow priest.
Laucian wrote:“Time will tell, my friend. I fear that the smoke will give warning to those that may seek us harm.”he says evenly looking Valena in the eyes. ”I agree. Perhaps we should share the duties until a high priest is chosen?”
“Perhaps for now,” Valena will agree. “We will need to find out just how many here follow the Lady of the Forests. Perhaps once all the elves have returned to the Mother Tree we can begin this task.”

It is near nightfall when Valena finds a squirrel that seems to have seen what transpired the night before. With that information in hand, Valena will quickly make her way towards the Queen, gesturing to any of her companions that she sees along the way to follow.

“I believe that I have found the information that we seek,” Valena reports. “A squirrel told me that elves left Golden Peak on the backs of rocs and flew north. That is the direction of the fort that we already destroyed days ago. It is my fear that Chandra and his allies are taking the battle directly to the enemy. They are flying to Xorg itself to destroy the orcs!”

Kylie:
Lilia wrote:“That is a prudent course of action,” Lilia agrees with what Valena and Kylie stated. Once more she is disappointed in her fellow Priest of Corellon. “If nothing changes come morning we will investigate this matter thoroughly, unless Valena learns something dire from the animals.”
Kylie nods, pleased that the new queen likes her idea. In truth, she hasn't much used the divinitory spells in her arsenal and isn't entirely sure what spells she has that will best fit this need. Kylie decides to make sure to rectify that this evening.
Lilia wrote:“That's partially why I was so pleased that Laucian and Valena have returned,” Lilia states.
"That makes sense," Kylie replies. "Our search for a home will undoubtedly require some scouting as well, but we will likely be focussing on the grasslands, while they will have plenty to investigate in the forest."
Lilia wrote:“You're not a pest,” Lilia answers easily. “None of you are.”
"Thank you," Kylie replies with a curtsy. Her curtsy is not the most graceful, as she does not have a lot of experience with such things.

Laucian wrote:“You do indeed fit in my friend.

Kylie is pleased to hear positive reassurance from her elven 'big brother', even though it is mostly directed to Talen. It is particularly meaningful coming from someone she has known and fought alongside ever since leaving Pyris what seems like a lifetime ago.

Kylie nods her understanding. "How coordinated are these enemies, or do they work at cross purposes in ways that might be exploited to our advantage?"

Laucian quickly fills them in. It sounds to Kylie as though she was right in thinking that the various enemies each had their own agendas and were unlikely to work together productively. She will have to give some thought to ways to turn their enemies against one another...

Lilia wrote:“I would tend to believe that nothing was left behind,” Lilia surmises. So, it's my opinion that each clan packed up everything that they needed to settle into the Elfholds. I doubt that they left much, if anything, behind.”
Kylie listens intently as Lilia shares this information. It serves to explain a few things that she has wondered about since they learned of this quest. "So if I understand you correctly, they essentially abandoned the entire Sylvan Realm (other than the few hundred left behind to maintain the Mother Tree), rather than maintain a community in both locations?"

Later that afternoon, Kylie spends some time with her spell books, reviewing her options regarding spells to gain information on what Chandra may be up to. Unfortunately, her options in that regard are more limited than she had realized. She will need to let Lilia and the others know.

Valena wrote:“I believe that I have found the information that we seek,” Valena reports.
Kylie follows when summoned and finds a place to listen when they are all gathered with the new queen. The news is not surprising, but rather disheartening. "This sounds bad. Do we know where this Xorg is, or is Chandra likely to have to search for a while to find it? Any idea how strong a force of orcs is there? Do Chandra and his group have any real hope of wiping them out, or are they likely to just anger the orcs into attacking in force?"

Talen:

Talen can't help shrink when all the nasty glares come his way. “We were all thinking it,” Talen says defensively. “Valena was the only one brave enough to actually say it.”
Kylie wrote:"You know, I hadn't thought of it that way," Kylie replies thoughtfully. "In the future, I may be able to help with that. Sherwood provided me with guidance that will enable me to Teleport to their home, once I learn that spell. We could visit them whenever we like after that."

“That would be wonderful,” Talen agrees. “I wonder if I ever will be that skilled of a mage to do it myself.”
Kylie wrote:"Those are some very good thoughts, Talen. Picking a location will be one of the first considerations. I think we'll want someplace that isn't too close to any of the existing clan homes so that we are not encroaching on anyone else's area, and so that we have room to grow. I plan to talk with both Lilia and the High Keeper about it."
“I think we might also want to have a place that is easy to reach as well,” Talen adds. “I mean I'm not sure I want to have to go through their forest to reach our land. We half-elves can't move through the brush like elves can. I think both sides would end up annoyed in such a situation.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie nods. "You are both right that we will need to be careful in any investigation of that area. There is no way of knowing what may have happened in that area - or the rest of the Sylvan Realm - in the elves' absence."
Lilia wrote:“That's partially why I was so pleased that Laucian and Valena have returned,” Lilia states. “Once the issue with Chandra is settled and the Mother Tree is safe, we'll need to scout the rest of the Sylvan Realm. I am sure as more and more elves return over the Rainbow Bridge, that they will wish to settle in their former Clan Holds once more. In time, life will return to normal in the Sylvan Realms.”
“I'll be happy to be out doing something,” Talen says. “I want to help, but there's not much I can do around here. Now scouting, that I can do.”
Lilia wrote:“That could very well be,” Lilia says in agreement. Seeing the confusion on Talen's face, she'll add, “In some ways the altar of a temple is similar to a Spell Engine. This energy can be used to create priestly affects that you would associate with that particular deity. Since the All-Father also oversees nature among the elves, that an altar of his could produce these thorny growths is a reasonable assumption.”
“Magic is so much more mysterious and complicated then I ever imagined,” Talen adds. Such complicated thoughts make his head hurt.
Lia wrote:“When the time comes, we will do as you suggest. I just hope there are no more illusions of dragons…”
“Yeah, you and me both!”
Lilia wrote:“I would tend to believe that nothing was left behind,” Lilia surmises. “There was no quick evacuation of the Sylvan Realm because of some disaster, this was a case of the Realm being too crowded for all the clans. So, its my opinion that each clan packed up everything that they needed to settle into the Elfholds. I doubt that they left much, if anything, behind.”
“Well if that was the case,” Talen counters, “then why have we been finding things? I mean the Priest of Ehlonna found magic items of their faith at the shrine. We found magic arrows and griffon riding gear at the stables and so on. They clearly left things behind.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie smiles at her friend.
“I'd worry that Dapple being so big would rip a rabbit to pieces accidentally,” Talen says looking at the really big dog. “I might be able to catch one. When I was growing up I would try to sneak up on rabbits in the Lost Valley and try to touch one without them knowing that I was there.”
Laucian wrote:“You do indeed fit in my friend. Every elf here knows what you have done and in a sense are in your debt. Give it time and you may find a home when your wanderings come to an end.”
“I hope so,” Talen says.
Lia wrote:“I maybe little but I pack a punch!” she says with a grin and playfully taps her brother on her arm with her fist.
“You don't have to tell me!” Talen counters, unconsciously rubbing Lia's favorite hitting shoulder.

Later on, Valena gestures for Talen to follow her and she gathers the group together.
Valena wrote:“I believe that I have found the information that we seek,” Valena reports. “A squirrel told me that elves left Golden Peak on the backs of rocs and flew north. That is the direction of the fort that we already destroyed days ago. It is my fear that Chandra and his allies are taking the battle directly to the enemy. “A squirrel told you all that?” Talen wonders. He probably shouldn't be surprised by this. He's seen Valena do this many times before, but it still startles him.
Kylie wrote:Kylie follows when summoned and finds a place to listen when they are all gathered with the new queen. The news is not surprising, but rather disheartening. "This sounds bad. “I don't think we really know anything other than this 'Xorg' is to the north,” Talen offers. “What are we going to do now?”

Lilia:
Lia wrote:“And we will defend our Queen, if it comes to that. “ she says with a reassuring smile, her sword hand resting on the pommel of her sword.
“Let us hope that it doesn't come to that,” Lilia quietly adds. This is all becoming so much more complicated then she ever imagined.
Talen wrote:“I'll be happy to be out doing something,” Talen says. “I want to help, but there's not much I can do around here. Now scouting, that I can do.”
“It sounds like we have the makings of a plan then,” Lilia notes.
Valena wrote:“I am sure that the Lady of the Forests could provide such a miracle,” Valena adds. “But a temple dedicated to the All-Father does make the most sense.”
“I meant no disrespect to the Lady of the Forests,” Lilia adds sensing Valena's defensiveness with her patron. “However it was my understanding that her temples were out in the forest, not close to town. That was why I discounted her.”
Kylie wrote:Kylie listens intently as Lilia shares this information. It serves to explain a few things that she has wondered about since they learned of this quest. "So if I understand you correctly, they essentially abandoned the entire Sylvan Realm (other than the few hundred left behind to maintain the Mother Tree), rather than maintain a community in both locations?"
“There was more to it than that,” Lilia explains. “As we have noted, the Sylvan Realm is surrounded by mountains on three sides and borders an ocean. The weather outside the Sylvan Realm sounds very unpleasant during the winter months.”

“Compare that to the Elfholds where you can travel in just about any direction without much difficulty. There are also more friendly races in the area. Plus the Elfholds are something like 2-3 times bigger that the Sylvan Realm. There was more room and more opportunities in the Elfholds than the Sylvan Realm. Travel between the two elf lands was only by the Rainbow Bridge and it appears only once per month. Given all of that, is it not surprising that more elves moved to the Elfholds?”

“But with the current crisis with the Mother Tree,” Lilia continues,” I believe that more elves will be ready to return to their ancient homeland. Perhaps, in time, both lands will be active with elves.”
Talen wrote:“Well if that was the case,” Talen counters, “then why have we been finding things? I mean the Priest of Ehlonna found magic items of their faith at the shrine. We found magic arrows and griffon riding gear at the stables and so on. They clearly left things behind.”
Lilia raises an eyebrow upon hearing what Talen says in surprise. “Clearly, you are correct,” Talen,” Lilia admits. “Perhaps they did leave things behind in case the elves did return. We shall have to see what we find when the time comes to explore the palace.”
Laucian wrote:“Then perhaps it cannot wait for the council.”he adds thoughtfully stroking Onyx’s back. “Aye, she was able to but with some minor mistakes due to our language and theirs. Her name is Elora and she will be back in a few days if you wish to speak with her before the counsel.”

“Apparently the Fire Giants of that of the Hellfurnances to the south. The Ice giants have a home to the north, Frost Haven? The Humans did work for Moorkroft, but their allegiance is to Vassa and the Witch King. Add to that Xorg of the orcs.”

“We have enemies to the north, south and east, from what I understand the giants are at odds and a war is brewing. They are looking for a way to get to the City of the gods and we are in the middle. We need to secure our lands and hold them until the rainbow bridge opens once. We will need to send word to the Elfholds so that when the bridge does appear they will know of our plight before their arrival.”
“This is all very troubling,” Lilia says trying to take all of what Laucian has revealed in. “We spoke of scouting the Realm earlier, but now we must also search the areas beyond our borders. I certainly do not wish to become caught between factions if a war does break out. While Elora did provide us with much new information, there is so much more that we need to learn before a course of action can be taken.”

“I am not sure just how we can inform the Elfholds of what is transpiring here,” Lilia notes. “There are a few mage spells, but they are all beyond my skill. I would say that those back home will know by now that the Mother Tree has been saved. She is linked to her Daughter Trees in the Elfholds and with her restored state, her offspring will show it. It is my hope that even now they are preparing to send people and supplies over the Rainbow Bridge. Like us, they are just waiting for that day to come.”
laucian wrote:“Thank you to seeing them.
“I know that this goes against many of our own people's prejudices,” Lilia says, “but as you say they did a great service for us. I think that is why the All-Father chose Kylie, Lia and Talen for this task. To make us elves realize that they are all still of his blood, and thus our kin and should be treated as such.”
They are flying to Xorg itself to destroy the orcs!”
“That ignorant fool!” Lilia curses loudly. “How does leaving the Mother Tree less defended advance the goals of the Elfin People?”
Kylie wrote:Kylie follows when summoned and finds a place to listen when they are all gathered with the new queen. The news is not surprising, but rather disheartening. "This sounds bad. Do we know where this Xorg is, or is Chandra likely to have to search for a while to find it? Any idea how strong a force of orcs is there? Talen wrote:“I don't think we really know anything other than this 'Xorg' is to the north,” Talen offers. “What are we going to do now?”

“It is as Talen said,” Lilia notes. “This place is somewhere to the north of us. A trained unit of elves can defeat many orcs, but we cannot match their sheer numbers. They simply breed too fast when compared to we elves. We have no idea just how big the orchold is or how many they number. No competent commander goes to engage an enemy of unknown size on an unknown battlefield.”

Lilia thinks on what is the proper course of action and quickly decides that no one track is any better than another. They could stay here and simply wait and defend the Mother Tree in case of attack. Or we could go after the traitorous Chandra and those who follow him. But in doing that, wouldn't Lilia be guilty of the same thing? Abandoning the Mother Tree?

“We must go after them,” Lilia finally states. “This is not a military operation, but rather a scouting mission. We must know what has happened to Chandra and those who went with him. They might not have even found Xorg yet or they could be in battle even as we speak. Our mission will be to find them and bring home whom we can.”

Turning to Laucian and Valena, Lilia will ask, “There was a road in the mountains past that fort we torched days ago. Assuming that it does lead to this Xorg, do you think you can track those orcs we let go? Would it be possible to reach the fort we burned in the dark or should we wait until dawn to depart? If we have to pass beyond the Sylvan Realm, we will need cold protection spells. I assume that none of us have prayed for them. We'll need to rest either here at Golden Peak or at the ruins of the fort.”

“Valena, can you get word to the rocs to help us?”

Turning to the entire group, Lilia finishes up with, “Are you with me on this mission?”
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

“Sadly, I do not know. Pperhaps upon Elora’s arrival she can distinguish this in the other scrolls that we have found."
Valena wrote:“Perhaps for now,” Valena will agree. “We will need to find out just how many here follow the Lady of the Forests. Perhaps once all the elves have returned to the Mother Tree we can begin this task."
Laucian looks to Valena with renewed respect, “I think that would be the best choice as of now. Unless we send word to the Elfholds. Perhaps there is a priest with the skills needed there. That is willing,” he adds thoughtfully.

As Valena calls for Queen Lilia, Laucian follows behind listening intently.
They are flying to Xorg itself to destroy the orcs!”
Laucian brings his hand to his forehead and tentatively rubs his forehead then runs his hand back through his hair. While I understand his desire why go poke a sleeping bear with a twig. He thinks to himself. The others bring up their concerns,
Kylie wrote:Kylie follows when summoned and finds a place to listen when they are all gathered with the new queen. The news is not surprising, but rather disheartening. "This sounds bad. Do we know where this Xorg is, or is Chandra likely to have to search for a while to find it? Any idea how strong a force of orcs is there? Do Chandra and his group have any real hope of wiping them out, or are they likely to just anger the orcs into attacking in force?"
Talen wrote:“I don't think we really know anything other than this 'Xorg' is to the north,” Talen offers. “What are we going to do now?”
Then Lilia Answers:
Lilia wrote:“We must go after them,” Lilia finally states. “This is not a military operation, but rather a scouting mission. We must know what has happened to Chandra and those who went with him. They might not have even found Xorg yet or they could be in battle even as we speak. Our mission will be to find them and bring home whom we can.”
Laucian looks at the queen his expession one of disbelief, “This will be much more the a scouting mission. There is no telling what awaits us. They could be wandering the north, captured or dead. I fear that this will be a rescue mission and one we would be hard pressed to win.
Lilia wrote:Turning to Laucian and Valena, Lilia will ask, “There was a road in the mountains past that fort we torched days ago. “Ye of little faith.” He slightly shakes his head jokingly. “If the orcs went that way from the forts I am sure we will find them. I would recommend leaving at first light. We can resupply and pray for our Patrons blessing. What concerns me is all of the sylvan realms saw the smoke. Any who knew of those forts will be knowing something is amiss. I just hope they aren’t marching into a horde.

"What do you wish to be done with Chandra if we find him?”he asks curiously.

Laucian looks to the others then to Lilia, "I don't like it, but our kin do not deserve to die under Chandra's misguided leadership. Í'll see it through till whatever end."

Lilia wrote:“That ignorant fool!” Lilia curses loudly. “How does leaving the Mother Tree less defended advance the goals of the Elfin People?”
“Perhaps all the time within the rainbow bridge has addled his mind?” she asks curiously. Though she hasn’t seen any of the other elves acting so reckless.

Lia listens to the others as they begin talking of what to do. To stay and protect the mother tree or to follow Chandra into the abyss of Xorg. Lia looks to the the others and asks, “Should we ask any of the other elves to join us?”
Lilia wrote:Turning to the entire group, Lilia finishes up with, “Are you with me on this mission?”
Lia thinks to herself for several moments considering her options as Laucian consent to the mission. “You all have been true friends and kin. What would be said of me if I turned my back on our home and people now? Besides, I think it would put a chink in Chandra’s armor, being saved by a drow, again," she says with a wolfish grin, her lavender eyes alight with humor.

Kylie:
Talen wrote:“That would be wonderful,” Talen agrees. “I wonder if I ever will be that skilled of a mage to do it myself.”
"Persevere, and you will get there some day," Kylie says with a warm smile. "You have the brains and capability to be a fine mage."
Talen wrote:“I think we might also want to have a place that is easy to reach as well,” Talen adds. “I mean I'm not sure I want to have to go through their forest to reach our land. We half-elves can't move through the brush like elves can. I think both sides would end up annoyed in such a situation.”
"That's kind of what I was thinking, as well." Kylie pulls the map of the Sylvan Realm that they were given by the Elf King in the Elfholds out of her enchanted Girdle of Many Pockets. "When the opportunity arises, I was thinking that we should scout out these four grasslands around the edge of the Sylvan Realm," she says, pointing at each in turn. "It was you that pointed out that we might be better off in the grasslands than in the forest. Besides, the only other grassland of significant size is this one in the middle of the forest, and that is where the geyser field is. Plus, it would mean being surrounded by the forest and elves on all sides. That could, potentially, limit our independence."
Talen wrote:“I'd worry that Dapple being so big would rip a rabbit to pieces accidentally,” Talen says looking at the really big dog. “I might be able to catch one. When I was growing up I would try to sneak up on rabbits in the Lost Valley and try to touch one without them knowing that I was there.”
"That's impressive," Kylie says, her eyes wide. "I doubt I could do that even with all my training in the stealthy arts."

Lilia wrote:“There was more to it than that,” Lilia explains.

"I was not aware that the difference in size between the two realms was that great," Kylie says. "I have not really had a chance to explore either one to a significant extent."

Kylie considers Lilia's words for a moment. "I hope you are right that more will return. I'm not sure that there are enough elves here to really defend, develop and prosper as an independent realm."

Talen wrote:“I'll be happy to be out doing something,” Talen says. “I want to help, but there's not much I can do around here. Now scouting, that I can do.”
Kylie smiles at her eager friend. "Sounds rather like fun, don't you think?"

Talen wrote:“Well if that was the case,” Talen counters, “then why have we been finding things? I mean the Priest of Ehlonna found magic items of their faith at the shrine. We found magic arrows and griffon riding gear at the stables and so on. They clearly left things behind.”
Kylie grins, impressed by Talen's quick thinking. She shifts her gaze quickly to see Lilia's reaction.
Lilia wrote:Lilia raises an eyebrow upon hearing what Talen says in surprise. “Clearly, you are correct,” Talen,” Lilia admits. “Perhaps they did leave things behind in case the elves did return. We shall have to see what we find when the time comes to explore the palace.”
"Perhaps at least some of those leaving intended to return in the not too distant future; any number of events or factors may have prevented them from following up on their intention. Either way, we will see what there is to be seen," Kylie says with a wink at Talen.

Lilia wrote:“This is all very troubling,” Lilia says trying to take all of what Laucian has revealed in.

Talen wrote:“I don't think we really know anything other than this 'Xorg' is to the north,” Talen offers. “What are we going to do now?”
Lilia wrote:“It is as Talen said,” Lilia notes.
"It was worth a try," Kylie says with a shrug. "I was thinking that if we knew where it was, we could use spells to observe what was happening there. I will prepare the spells anyway, and be ready to use them as appropriate to the situation."

Kylie listens closely as Lilia and Laucian discuss the ramifications of Valena's information. After some thought, the queen puts forth a plan.
Lilia wrote:Turning to the entire group, Lilia finishes up with, “Are you with me on this mission?”
Laucian wrote:“Ye of little faith.” He slightly shakes his head jokingly. “If the orcs went that way from the forts I am sure we will find them. I would recommend leaving at first light. She says with a wolfish grin, her lavender eyes alight with humor.
"I don't like it either," Kylie replies with a nod to Laucian. "However, I don't believe we have any real option; this at least allows for the possibility of preventing a massive retaliatory attack from the orcs. I also agree that we should wait for first light so that we can optimize our spell choices for this task to the best of our ability."
Lia wrote:Lia listens to the others as they begin talking of what to do. To stay and protect the mother tree or to follow Chandra into the abyss of Xorg. Lia looks to the the others and asks, “Should we ask any of the other elves to join us?”
"I would recommend against doing so, as a larger force creates a greater risk of being detected prematurely. Also, we need to leave as many here as possible to defend the Mother Tree from this and other possible threats."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the map in the Resources area, the grasslands that Kylie indicates are: 1) in the north where the northern river enters the Sylvan Realm, 2) in the northeast, east of "J" where the Justice medallion was retrieved, 3) the large grassland east and south of "G" where the warrior statue was found, and 4) in the south past the royal palace (O) in the area that runs off the map.

Valena:
Lilia wrote:“I meant no disrespect to the Lady of the Forests,” Lilia adds sensing Valena's defensiveness with her patron. “However it was my understanding that her temples were out in the forest, not close to town. That was why I discounted her.”
“When you put it that way, yes what you suspect makes sense,” Valena agrees.
Laucian wrote:Laucian looks to Valena with renewed respect, “I think that would be the best choice as of now. Unless we send word to the Elfholds. Perhaps there is a priest with the skills needed there. That is willing,” he adds thoughtfully.
“Or even now a priest is on their way here to fulfill this role,” Valena suggests. “I am sure that the Lady of the Forests is aware of our situation since she may have even aided us in the battle against Moorkroft. Time will tell.”

Later in the evening, Valena has learned where Chandra and his followers have gone.
Talen wrote:“A squirrel told you all that?” Talen wonders.
“Yes,” Valena answers slightly puzzled why what she reported would be in doubt. Then again she's been able to speak with the animals for so long that its natural to her.

Many questions are asked, but it is the new Queen's response that most interests Lilia.
Lilia wrote:“That ignorant fool!” Lilia curses loudly. “How does leaving the Mother Tree less defended advance the goals of the Elfin People?”
Valena is mildly surprised at her response. While Valena has not known Lilia all that long, she has always seemed to be the coldly logical type. Such a display of emotion from her seems out of character, but then again Lilia has been changed only a few days ago. Perhaps this is the new her. Regardless, Valena likes the Queen's fire.

“It only serves to advance his goals,” Valena suggest. “At the expense of the elves.”

Lilia takes several moments to gather her thoughts and decide on a course of action. Leadership is never an easy thing when the lives of others are on the line.
Laucian wrote:Laucian looks at the queen his expression one of disbelief, “This will be much more the a scouting mission. There is no telling what awaits us. They could be wandering the north, captured or dead. I fear that this will be a rescue mission and one we would be hard pressed to win.”
“I agree with my forest brother,” Valena states. “We must save as many of our people as we can before they fall victim to Chandra's arrogance.”
Lilia wrote:Turning to Laucian and Valena, Lilia will ask, “There was a road in the mountains past that fort we torched days ago. I just hope they aren’t marching into a horde.”
“Again, I find myself in agreement with Laucian,” Valena adds. “He is my superior when it comes to tracking, but I have other methods of learning things. Together we will find the way.”
Lilia wrote:“Valena, can you get word to the rocs to help us?”
“I will put out the word, but it will take time to reach them and have then come to Golden Peak,” Valena answers. A look of revelation comes across her face. “This was Chandra's plan all that along! It takes time for the rocs to be summoned and arrived, but they were here last night. In his arrogance he thought that he would be named King and that we would all immediately use the rocs to fly to the orc stronghold. I will use Aerie to send word to the rocs and have them join us up north. That way we won't have to wait for them to arrive.”
Lilia wrote:Turning to the entire group, Lilia finishes up with, “Are you with me on this mission?”
“My vow to protect the Mother Tree for any and all threats remains,” Valena proudly states. “Even if it might bring us into conflict with our own kin.”
Laucian wrote:"What do you wish to be done with Chandra if we find him?”he asks curiously.
Valena knows what she would do, but, thankfully, that particular problem is not hers.

“Morning is the best time for departure,” Valena adds. “It will give us time to re-tool our spell selections and prepare our gear. Griffons will need to be made ready for the trip along with supplies. The cooshee's should stay here. They are not as fast as the griffons. I'll have River Blossom alert the other beings of the forest to the potential danger."

Valena will replace all her first level spells with five Endure Cold spells.

A smug looks comes to Talen when he finds a detail that the much smarter Lilia had overlooked. At least this time he didn't ask a silly question.
Kylie wrote:"Perhaps at least some of those leaving intended to return in the not too distant future; any number of events or factors may have prevented them from following up on their intention. Either way, we will see what there is to be seen," Kylie says with a wink at Talen.
“That we will,” Talen says still grinning like a fool.

Later Valena reports what she finds to everyone. Lilia wants to go after Chandra and everyone else is in agreement.

“Count me in too,” Talen says. “I never did like Chandra all that much.”

After we break up for the evening, Talen will return to where he's been staying with Kylie and her mom. He'll go over his spell book and prepare a new spell list come the morning.

“All of which is possible,” Lilia concedes.

Valena tells what she's learned about where Chandra and his followers have gone.
Valena wrote:“It only serves to advance his goals,” Valena suggest. “At the expense of the elves.”
“It seems that way,” Lilia adds in anger. Not at Valena herself, but for the betrayal that Chandra has perpetrated.
Laucian wrote:Laucian looks at the queen his expression one of disbelief, “This will be much more the a scouting mission. There is no telling what awaits us. They could be wandering the north, captured or dead. I fear that this will be a rescue mission and one we would be hard pressed to win.

“Of course you are both correct,” Lilia quickly answers when the followers of Ehlonna gang up on her. “What I meant is that we are not going after Chandra with the idea to fight orcs. We are not seeking battle but rather to save or rescue our kin.”
Laucian wrote:“Ye of little faith.” He slightly shakes his head jokingly. “If the orcs went that way from the forts I am sure we will find them. I would recommend leaving at first light. “My faith is perfectly fine,” Lilia answers in a softer tone the she had been using. “I was merely making sure that you were both up to the task.”
Lia wrote:Lia listens to the others as they begin talking of what to do. To stay and protect the mother tree or to follow Chandra into the abyss of Xorg. Lia looks to the the others and asks, “Should we ask any of the other elves to join us?”

“Kylie has the truth of things,” Lilia answers. “No, this mission is for us alone. The rest are needed here to defend the Mother Tree if we fail.”
Valena wrote:“I will put out the word, but it will take time to reach them and have then come to Golden Peak,” Valena answers. “You might be right,” Lilia slowly says as she balls her fists in anger and trembles slightly. She cannot find the words to express her anger at what Chandra has done.
Laucian wrote:"What do you wish to be done with Chandra if we find him?”he asks curiously.
“Take him alive,” Lilia finally says as her anger starts to fade. “The council will decide his fate.”

“I agree,” Lilia states. “Yes, make your preparations and we will depart in the morning. In the meantime, I have another task that I must attend to. I will see you tomorrow.”

Lilia steps away from her friends to better compose herself for what she now must do. Once she has collected her thoughts, Lilia will gather up the members of the council and will speak to all the other elves here at Golden Peak. She will tell them what Chandra has done and what her plan is come the morning. Everyone else is to stay here and guard the Mother Tree until we return. Unlike Chandra, Lilia has no intent on leaving everyone else in the dark as to what her plans are in this matter.

Eventually, Lilia will separate herself from everyone else and return to her quarters here at Golden Peak. Her rooms seem a bit more barren the Laucian's companions no longer here. Lilia will spend some time with Lady before turning in for the night.

When she rises in the pre-dawn light, Lilia will replace her first level priest spells with Endure Cold.

Kylie:
Lilia wrote:“The Mother Tree changes the forest around her to better suit we elves,” Lilia adds. “But there is a limit to how far her influence can reach. Something like fifty miles in every direction to create an area roughly 100 miles wide and long. The mountains and the ocean further limit the size of the Sylvan Realm.”

“Now down in the Elfholds there are seven Daughter Trees. Even if each is only half as potent as the Mother Tree, together they can affect a much larger area. That's why the Elfholds are bigger.”
Kylie listens, fascinated as Lilia provides more explanation. "Wow, that really puts things into perspective. It helps explain more about why the elves revere these trees so much." It's amazing to think that these magical trees have such an extensive influence on the lands around them.

Talen wrote:“And apparently the bloodline as well,” Talen adds feeling better about himself.
Kylie nods in agreement. "I don't know much about your drow heritage, but there are certainly a number of highly skilled mages on the human side of your family."
Talen wrote:“I was thinking of either the area to the north or to the south east where the rivers flow in for a source of water,” Talen adds while looking over the map. “There also seems to be roads through the forest in both areas.”
"I'm not sure if those markings are roads or not..." Kylie replies, re-examining the map. "But that was my first thought as well. However, we may find that the other areas also have plenty of rivers and streams that are just not large enough to be shown on this map. Also, there's no way to know what may be in the southern area, since much of it appears to extend off the map. We shall just have to go look."
Talen wrote:“I said I tried,” Talen says with a grin. “I never did catch one.”
"Ah, I see. Still, you probably got closer than I would have."

Lilia wrote:“We shall see,” Lilia says with a sigh. “We elves were so close to losing our own heritage. It is my hope that this will open the eyes of many elves that they cannot take their past for granted.”
"I hope so, too," Kylie agrees. "This land is too... valuable? ... important? - I'm not sure what the right word is here - too significant to allow it to be lost."

Valena wrote:“It only serves to advance his goals,” Valena suggest. “At the expense of the elves.”
Lilia wrote:“It seems that way,” Lilia adds in anger. Not at Valena herself, but for the betrayal that Chandra has perpetrated.
"Which demonstrates why he isn't qualified to be king, and should not be the head of the council, either," Kylie says, her own anger starting to rise. "Fortunately, my mother made the right choice."
Lilia wrote:“Kylie has the truth of things,” Lilia answers. “No, this mission is for us alone. The rest are needed here to defend the Mother Tree if we fail.”
Kylie is pleased that the queen agrees with her thinking, but the numerous possible bad outcomes leave her feeling somber.

Valena wrote:“I will put out the word, but it will take time to reach them and have then come to Golden Peak,” Valena answers.
Lilia wrote:“You might be right,” Lilia slowly says as she balls her fists in anger and trembles slightly. She cannot find the words to express her anger at what Chandra has done.
Kylie's gut drops like a rock. If Valena's supposition is true, then words aren't likely to stop Chandra, even if they do catch up to him before he finds the orcs. This may well end in violence between the elven factions.

Everyone agrees to undertake the mission that Lilia has laid out. It will not be easy, but it is necessary. There is also agreement to wait until morning before leaving.
Lilia wrote:“I agree,” Lilia states. “Yes, make your preparations and we will depart in the morning. In the meantime, I have another task that I must attend to. I will see you tomorrow.”
As Lilia turns to leave, Kylie speaks up before she loses the opportunity to do so. "I'm sorry, Lilia, I know I promised to bring my spell books by for you to study from tonight. However, I fear this may have to wait until we return, as I will need them this evening to update my spells, and it sounds like you have other duties that need your time and attention."
