Mile’ka Shinzeria - Solo start

Post by GM Fang »

A Crash Landing is Still a Landing

Mile'ka finished salvaging what little she could carry by hand from her damaged ship. The Nova Phoenix lay in wreckage in a small ravine of red and orange rock. She looked around the desolate landscape as the twin Suns' glare forced her to shield her eyes. Mile'ka could only see that she appeared to be surrounded by an apparently endless expanse of barren dunes and a rocky canyon stretching off into the distance, her vision limited by the sand whipping through the ravine.

The Twilek could feel her skin bake under her padded armor, especially where it was exposed by tears or burnt away patches caused by the second of two crashes here on this unknown, and rather inhospitable, planet. She reviewed her gear and packed it as best as she could.

She scanned the sky for the bounty hunter's ship that had destroyed the Nova Phoenix, a run-down Ghtroc freighter, that had served her and her Wookie companion, Raga, well enough recently. The Phoenix was going nowhere else again, plumes of black smoke pouring from its shattered wreckage. That would make it rather difficult to find her friend, taken by the bounty hunter and his minions. She looked at the damaged holo-recording once more, wondering just what "Black Thorn Sky" might mean.

An approaching sound broke the Twilek from her contemplations. It was a large skiff slowly appoaching over the dunes. Mile'ka isn't yet sure if she has been spotted due to the undulating terrain and rocky outcrops.

So now what?

Cursing to herself, Mile'ka pulled the last of the salvageable gear from the wreckage of the Nova Phoenix. Thankfully the crash survival kit and some other vital equipment was still workable. That could have gone better, she thinks, chastising herself for even being put into the position to face off against that other bounty hunter. What did she expect, failing to complete the bounty on the Wookie. Even all the years after of successful inconspicuous Outer Rim runs did little to dull the Empire's reach or memory. Now she was stranded and the Wookie sent to a slave labor camp at best, killed outright at worst. Mile'ka wished she had invested more time in truly learning about her partner, especially related to some of the more mysterious directions their path took recently.

What was that? she thought, the sound of something approaching over the dunes snapping her back to the moment. Her head-tails twitching her displeasure, she quickly thought about this new turn of events possibly falling back into her favor. Maybe a quicker way out of here, she mused, moving to an advantageous position along the nearest outcroppings. Setting her blaster carbine close at hand, Mile'ka will use her electrobinoculars to see if she can figure out just who might be approaching. After all, it could be a good Samaritan, although more likely it is scavengers or other scum. However, blasting them outright would just be rude.

Slipping behind the highest nearby outcropping, Mile'ka scanned the horizon in the direction of the approaching sound. A large dust cloud sprouted a skimmer. It got closer, trailing a plume of red sand behind.

Pulling out her macrobinoculars, the Twilek could see a number of short humanoids in hooded cloaks amidst piles of scrap and machinery stacked haphazardly on the deck of the skimmer. Jawas!

Mile'ka diligently scanned the rest of the horizon once she identified the incoming skimmer as piloted by Jawas. Of all the scavengers, Jawas were more tolerable, she surmised. Upon confirming that the Jawas were alone in their approach, she slung her blaster carbine over her shoulder and stuffed away her electrobinoculars, making her way down to where the skimmer would likely arrive.

Time to negotiate a ride back to civilization, she mused, wondering just how much her smoldering pile of wrecked space ship was now worth.

Mile'ka sees that the approaching skiff is predictably, and comfortingly, manned by Jawas and not some other, more dangerous and belligerent, entities. She shoulders her weapon and makes her way back down to her destroyed freighter. The Jawas approach cautiously, chattering in their high-speed guttural language to each other as the skiff comes to a stop a short distance away. Seeing the Twilek, the Jawas exchange a few more words and the skiff lurches forward twice awkwardly, as the little humanoids fight and argue amongst themselves.

Eventually, it comes to a final stop and the Jawas exit the skiff via a ramp, ambling forward in a haphazard group, still chittering to each other, a rousing "Utinni!" filling the air. One of the Jawas moves toward Mile'ka while the others approach the ship, excited Jawaese filling the air. The Jawa raises both of its hands toward the Twilek and says, "Ny shootogawa! Ny shootogawa!"

It then approaches closer saying, "M'um m’aloo. Etee uwanna waa." It points at the ship and then toward its skiff. "Yukusu kenza keena."

As Mile'ka looks on, some Jawas return to the skiff to retrieve tools, while others immediately go to work, apparently trying to dismantle the outer housing to get at interior parts that may still be working.

Mile'ka approaches the swarming mass of Jawas when one breaks off and heads more or less her way.
The Jawa raises both of its hands toward the Twilek and says, "Ny shootogawa! Ny shootogawa!"
She smiles and replies, "I am not going to shoot you." The Jawas, either unimpressed by one armed and armored Twi'lek, or otherwise too excited at what they might salvage, clearly seem to ignore any concerns of ownership. Mile'ka keeps her focus on the lone Jawa, "That's my ship. Well, what's left of it. How much are you going to give me to tear her apart?" The seriousness on her face and the twitching of her head-tails meant to affirm she is not going to give away parts for nothing.

Assuming she does not have to start blasting Jawas to make her point, she adds, "I want to hitch a ride, me and my gear, to whatever passes for civilization around here, preferably with a starport and a cantina." Before the Jawa can respond, Mile'ka adds, "And I want fair compensation of whatever you can use off of that wreck, minus your costs to pull the parts." She puts her hands on her hips and awaits the bargaining retort likely to come.

Mile'ka starts to negotiate with the Jawas as they start to examine the wrecked freighter and try to inspect it for what might still be salvageable.

The negotiating Jawa points to one of the other Jawas and says "Buja Kurruzza?"

The robed humanoid looks up from his work pulling the exterior panels from the engine compartment and barks back, "Nyeta Kurruzza!"

The first one then turns back to Mile'ka and utters his own response, "Nyeta Kurruzza! Ko lopo. Jar' kosa ko lopo!" He points to you and then to the skiff and finally off to the distance behind him. "Jubinloo bok. Yukusu kenza keena. Bom’loo opakwa ashuna Shuuta jubinloo." It then points to the ship, to you, to the skiff and gestures with both hands over its shoulder.

Clearly they feel like arguing over what may or may not work on this smoldering wreckage, Mile'ka thinks, getting impatient. To move the negotiations along, she unslings her blaster carbine but still holds it in a not openly aggressive manner. However, her head-tails display her displeasure as she says coldly, "Or I could just kill all of you, take your skiff, and keep the salvage for myself."
