Its now been years since I had visited out Champrions universe, but these things are always coming back around again. As such my own interested in that setting has picked up once more and as usual ideas came fast and furious. I still may continue on from where all the series left off at, but I also had the idea of jumping ahead to around our current day and a truly epic storyline came to be.
What I have posted with Prelude #1 is just that, the begining of that epic modern day storyline. There should be several preludes before I get to the meat of the main story. There is no time table for the release of these things, rather they will get done when they get done. I had the inspiriation and the desire to start the first prelude and here we are. That story will have three chapters to it and draws heavily on the events of the Eternal Vigilance MB game here on the forum, especially the very last post "A Blast From the Past".
And so here we are, a glimpse at the futre of our Champions world. The first chapter does not nail down exactly how far we are in the future from when the game was set, but chapter two will do just that. The world has changed significantly. What happened to all the old heroes and who has risen to take their place?
Stay tuned to find out!
Also, if you have any questions or commens, just post them in this thread. I'm going to leave the story threads locked from posting.
Enjoy!

Re: What's this all about?
Chapter 2 is now up! The wait for Chapter 3 should not be as long, as I have the first draft almost done.
A few spoliers this time around as I lock in the date of the currrent era stuff. It's now 2011, so nearly 25 years have passed since the files and MB stuff.
I had the whole story of Captain Ion's arrival and subsequent departure in mind from the start, so the flashback part is a spoiler for Eternal Vigilance.
As it stands now, there will be 6 Preludes of various size in all. As a teaser, here are the ones that I have locked down titles for:
Prelude #2 - "The Last of the Krell"
Prelude #3 - "Young Champions: Gamma Squad"
Prelude #5 - "Mystry in Space"
Each prelude will focus on different characters and a few will have a villains point of view to them. Eventually everything will tie together once the main story hits. Just setting up everything and tying up some loose ends in the preludes.
This also marks the first real appearance of Eclypse in the new stuff. As you might guess, he was going to have a major impact on things but the website never got that far.
Enjoy!

Re: What's this all about?
Chapter three of Prelude one is now up and that concludes that particular story. Now on to different things. Each Prelude should be radically differrent from the one before it; so lots of jumping aorund.
The idea for this particular series of stories started off innocently enough and over time evolved into something else entirely. This all began as a thought exercise bascially. I do a lot of what I call "Zombie WorK' or rather jobs that require only a minimal amount of concentration to perform. So that leaves my mind open to wander and plot.
The idea started with the question what would Spectrum and Morningstar's kids be like. Even as far back when I was still working on the website I had finally decided that they would get married--- eventually. While it looked like Jim and Whitney were going to be an item, it was never going to last. Whitney later turning up in Eternal Vigilance bore that out. I decided to jump 25 years into the future since it was such a nice round number. And also decided that there would be suitable courting time and having the time to have kids as things simply take time to happen.
So I created Christopher and Marie Sculley. Powerwise, they are somewhat combinations of their parents, which was fun to do and come up with unique abilities. Chris is more like his mom, while Marie is more like her dad. Chris will be a senior in high school, while Marie is a freshman, so there is a few years age gap between them. The Young Champions Program already existed, so it just seemed natural to upgrade it to a full fledge high school enviroment.
Many choices just fell into place from that starting point. Black Diamond seemed the logical choice to run the program now as she had some involvement with it in the past and even more once we got to the Defenders phase of her career. Likewise having Eclypse involved in that was also natural, as we had these two ending up together for a very long time now.
Thus the whole Young Champions: Gamma Squad was born. Since there were so many kids there now, they were divided up into squads. Other children were created to fill in membership and it seemed only natural that a Stargirl be there, so that's where Gabby came into this. I knew the whole bit of Captain Ion doing his second sacrifice was in EV, here I could show him arriving from the past once more.
The world became more and more developed and the story quickly grew beyond just Gamma Squad, so rather that just being the main focus, it became a part of the overall story. It quickly became apparent that there were many things that even date back to the website that I could wrap up that otherwise never would be. In the end I decided to start with the Captain Ion thing as it did have a tangible connection to where things left off and removed it from the Gamma Squad framework. It was a nice place to start this whole thing rolling while setting up many other things in the process.
I set up a number of 'rules' before going into this. One such rule is that the characters you encounter will have a wide vareity of fates, some good, some bad, and some inbetween. Such is life after all. I mainly planned on focusing on my own creations, except where they crossed paths with others, such as with Morningstar. These fates also lent themselves to some very heartbreaking outcomes and even more story ideas.
Another is that I will not be using any of the PC's from the EV game in this. Its not that any of those characters are not worthy of being used, but you never know if that game will ever start up again or not. I think anyone would play their character different if they knew that they were still alive 25 years from now. After all, they can't die since they exist in the future, so you could take more risks and chances knowing that there were no consequences. Best to simply avoid that isuse all together. So there will be stuff I will be showing, and a lot that I will not be showing.
