Crucible #15 - "Choices"
Near the saucer wreckage our heroes have gathered and conversing. Around them is a whirlwind of activity. PRIMUS Investigators are combing the saucer wreckage looking for clues to its origin. Emergency services are scrambling around aiding the wound and gathering the dead. You can overhear a report that the death toll has reached over 400.
Unexpectedly, Green Steel lands near Major Star just as PRIMUS was getting ready to take Rage away. The two converse for a few moments.
"Just a moment, Major," Green Steel calls out. "That poor, unfortunate creature is what Red Steel was changed into. Let me take him into custody. Using the equipment back at the SS HQ I may be able to undo this transformation."
The Major considers for a moment. The Steel Squadron has garnered a great deal of goodwill through their deeds in San Diego. "Very well, Green Steel. Do keep us advised to his condition. I will hope for the best."
Green Steel nods in response. He lifts the still unconscious form of Rage and places him over his shoulder. Green then rockets off into the sky once more.

Lets see if we can get the group issues taken care of, then we can move on to other things such as practicing with your new powers.
The idea of PRIMUS funding the team was mentioned. It is an option, but one that could prove more trouble that its worth. Such a team would be called in by PRIMUS regularly to deal with trouble. But it's your call. It's not the only option open to you.
I don't really get into laws when it comes to the Champions stuff too heavily. At best you may have to register at City Hall, but nothing overtly complicated and messy. The Steel Squadron just showed up and started doing good deeds without any paperwork.

Upon seeing the Green Knight return, Serena will excuse herself and go up to him and Major Star. "Were you able to help the Blue Knight, my friend? I may have a protection spell that could counter her freezing mist, allowing me to reach her. Do you know where she is?"
Back with the others, the Knight listens to what is being said.
"The Earth is spherical shaped? How is that possible? Everyone knows that it is flat."
"The Sentries? A soldier who stands guard. That is a worthy designation."
"The Stars? I am sorry, Goldstar, but that title does not seem to apply. But a good suggestion, nonetheless."
"The Praetorians? I have not heard that term before. It means the High Guards of the Roman Empire? Why not shorten it to just the High Guard?"
"Very well, Lily. I trust your judgment in this matter."

High Guard I like, and it's close to New Guard Blackout suggested before. The Vigilant could be good too. So what's it going to be?

"How about the Vigilant instead?"The discussion of team names strikes Lily as a bit premature, but she supposes it doesn't hurt to start thinking about it. "Well, I don't know if this helps, but the city motto is Semper Vigilans, which means 'Ever Vigilant'. You may be able to do something with that, though I don't recommend calling yourselves the Vigilantes.

Radio chatter continues to be heard in the background. More and more bodies continue to be found. Some miles away from the epicenter of the white event.
It takes a few minutes, but Lily does finally get Major Star’s attention. “What can I do for you, Ms. Pak?”

Such a bill has been introduced into Congress, but has yet to pass. PRIMUS functions as an ‘agency of last resort’ and the ‘last line of defense’ when they were conceived. In actually, they tend to be the law enforcement agency of the superhuman set. As such they do oversee superhumans, but realistically only to the extent of dealing with those who break the law.
Exactly how PRIMUS deals with superhumans varies according to the views of the areas PRIMUS commander. Being a full-fledged super himself, Major Star has no problems with superhumans and superhuman teams as long as they obey the laws. When it comes to superhumans, there are few laws beyond those for regular humans. At best PRIMUS will recognize a hero team, giving them some police powers, but this is rare.
In short, it is legal to form a hero team. PRIMUS polices superhuman activity, but does not actively interfere unless laws are being broken. Blackout seems to have been listening to all the noise and commotion going on, intent on picking out a situation that might not be under control by the emergency personnel. He doesn't really comment on any of the names for a team until Vigilant is brought up. "The Vigilant sounds like it would work well."
"I do not have any pressing personal matters at this time and can help out here as long as needed."

When Flux mentions that the best time to call loved ones and that now is the best time. Frostbite will excuse himself " Ill be back I have to check on something." He will find an available phone and call his Father telling him he is okay and hoping that he is well. After word he will return to the group.

Goldstar looks more like a person from home than anyone else and also suffers memory losses.

"I have a great favor to ask of you if it is within your power to grant."

Essentially, you will be considered as 'helpful and concerned citizens'. As long as no laws are broken, you are pretty much free to operate in the public interest.
"One recommendation: Once you start to get organized, it might be a good idea to request that someone from the police or PRIMUS come in a give a class on the details of citizen's arrest, as that is the statute under which you will be operating in your enforcement actions."
Now that she has provided such legal council as she can for the moment, Lily excuses herself and steps off to the side. Pulling her cellular phone from her purse, she dials the house where Rose is attending her friend's birthday party. Please, God, let her be alright!

Goldstar is bummed for about five seconds when no one seems to like the name she suggested. Then she quickly forgets the whole thing as the Vigilant is chosen instead.
The gold skinned woman can see the concern some of the others have over their families. She has no family that she is aware of, so that's not a big concern to her.
"Flux, I don't have any personal life. At least I don't think I do. No friends outside of you guys or any place to go. What should I do?"
Goldstar looks to Flux for guidance.

I am a stranger to these shores, without any family or even a place to sleep. Acquiring a place for us to gather is important as it will serve as home for many of us."
"Of course, my friend, I will do what I can to help heal you. I hope my meager skills are up to the task."
Serena will cast her Heal spell upon the man and pray that her magic is sufficient to restore him.
"The Vigilant it is. A fine name."
When Goldstar speaks of having no one or any place to go it strikes a chord with the Knight. "I fear my situation is much the same as Goldstar's. Green Steel is then gone with Rage.
After deciding on a name, many of the newly formed Vigilant try to contact their families. (The results of this will be sent by PM.)
While that is going on, Serena attempts to use her magic to heal Eldritch Arcane. She invokes her magic and then touches Eldritch's forehead. For a moment, Eldritch can think clearly. His memory no longer fragmented. At least he understands who he is and how he came to be on this alien world!
And then some unknown power inside Eldritch strikes back! His thoughts become fragmented and confused once more. All that he understood for that brief moment is gone again.
The energy of Serena's spell is thrusted back upon her, knocking the Knight off of her feet, but otherwise doing her no harm.

As she makes her call, the others can hear her exclaim, "What?! Oh dear Lord! Hang on, Gloria, I'll be right there as soon as I can. Bye!" Snapping the cellular closed, Lily returns to the group, anxiety clear on her face.
"I must leave immediately. Here is my card with my cell phone number on it." She retrieves a business card from her purse and hands it to Flux. Please contact me when you decide when and where to meet. If I don't pick up right away, please leave a message. Okay? I'll talk with you later."

Arcane is shocked at the effect of Lady Serena's spell. Briefly, he recalls all. Then the backlash sends the Lady reeling and robs him of himself once more.
Arcane struggles to hold onto something, anything about himself, his home, but all that remains is the realization that there is something to remember. That and something else. A feeling of looseness for lack of a better word. His memories were still locked away. But the lock may not be as firm as it was...
"Thank you Lady Serena. You have helped me greatly after all. I know now that I am not demented. That this was done to me. And that I have unknown enemies. I shall pursue this matter further at a later time."
Arcane bows to the Lady in thanks.
"I too have no place to lay my head unless I return to the place of my captivity. In truth I am not sure I could find it again anyway. So a secure shelter is becoming of paramount concern."
Looking at all the large structures of the city Arcane speculaltes to himself upon the safest course.
"Where is your church Lady Serena? May we seek sancuary there?"
Arcane is shocked at the effect of Lady Serena's spell. Briefly, he recalls all. Then the backlash sends the Lady reeling and robs him of himself once more.

......."Sam! Its Dave. Is everything alright?"
"David! Where are you? We've been calling your apartment. You O.K.?" In a quieter voice Sam says "I saw you on T.V. Hard to miss. What happened?"
"Sam you loveable idiot! Does that mean everybody's alright? I'm fine. Just a scrape on the leg."
Take a breath, he's O.K. or he wouldn't be asking about me.
"We're all fine here. We just saw the news about the Plaza and I knew you were planning on going shopping so we tried to call you and you didn't pick up and, and," a gulping sound follows after that rush of words and then, "We were worried."
"Everything's alright with me, Sam. Nothing a bandage and iodine won't fix. There's others far worse off than me."
'Listen, I can't stay on the line too long there's an emergency here I'm going to help out with for a while. I may not make it to Sunday dinner but I'll call you for sure."
"And Sam, keep everybody close to home for the weekend. This isn't all over just yet. I'll tell you more when I see you. Keep an eye on the news too. Give my love to sis and the kids."
"Alright Dave. I will. You BE CAREFUL."

Hanging up the phone Dave walks away from sight and returns to the identity of Flux, and makes his way back to the group.
TO Goldstar:" It looks like several of us are homeless here. We'll have to look for a motel with group rates or get a big tent maybe from the Red Cross."
"No, I'm kidding. I'm going to talk to Major Star about bunking in with his people for the night. We'll have to make other arrangements later."
If forming a group is as easy as Miss Pak says getting a place to stay sure won't be. I don't have a clue how to go about it.
Flux heads over to the Major or any other Primus agent if the Major is not there.

The energy of Serena's spell is thrusted back upon her, knocking the Knight off of her feet, but otherwise doing her no harm. That was very nasty, but thankfully not enough to cause any harm. With sadness in her eyes, Serena turns back to Eldritch. She can't help but wonder what he did to warrant such a punishment or if he has been victimized by some unknown foe.
"Your condition is not what is seems, my friend," Serena states as she rises back to her feet. "A magic more powerful than mine keeps you in this condition. For a moment I thought I might have broken through, but I am not powerful enough to undo this spell. I am sorry."

Hearing Goldstar call out to her, the voice cuts through her panic and concern for her daughter. Perhaps this strange woman can get her there faster than she might otherwise. Lily slows to a stop, then calls back to the sparkly woman. "Yes... That might be a good idea. Can you take me to pick up my daughter?"
If Goldstar does so, Lily will provide directions both verbally and by pointing. She will also urge the woman to hurry, her anxiety apparent in her tone.

Goldstar:
Goldstar will shift into Neutron Star and gently pick up Lily in her arms. Then she’s off in a shower of sparkles flying high into the sky. Once pointed in the correct direction, Goldstar will fly off that way at full speed.

"She seemed very distressed and apparently did not realize you were away," Blackout replies as he hands the business card to Flux. "It seems like Goldstar is giving her a lift.""I must leave immediately. Here is my card with my cell phone number on it." She retrieves a business card from her purse and hands it to Flux. Please contact me when you decide when and where to meet. If I don't pick up right away, please leave a message. Okay? I'll talk with you later."

As the phone rings, Cyrus begins to become inpatient. Speaking nervously as well as impatiently, "Come on Dad get off the recliner and answer the phone already." By the 3rd ring he finally picks up.
"Hello, McGregor residence."
"Hey Da, How are you? Is everything okay there?"
"Oh thank god, I thought I may never hear your voice again. Are you alright? You aren't hurt are you? I'm a lot better now that I know your alright. I been watching the news, Their saying its Chaos down there."
"Yeah I'm good, considering everything." he says. "Its a real mess down here dad. I think I'm gonna hang around here for awhile and help out the best I can. Ill be home as soon as I can Dad. I'll give you a call when I'm when I'm on my way home."
"Alright son, You be careful and try to stay out of trouble."
"I'll try. Ill talk to you soon."
"I'll see you when you get home. And Cyrus..... I love ya."
