Erizhetiana of Lotan -
They finish weaving their way through the crowds and finally approach the table where Lady Erizhetiana seated. "Lady Erizhetiana, may I introduce to you si....mister Kaelyn, swordsman & traveler. He has heard the situation and would like to join our investigation into the disappearance of the Makkees."
Erizhi leans forward, simultaneously sliding her feet from the pillow to the floor and reaching out with her hand toward the newcomer. "Kaelyn," she says with a nod and a slight smile, "a man of mystery you appear to be."
“Greetings, Lady Erizhetiana,” he said with a slight bow as he stumbled over her name a little. “You are truly a sight to behold. 'Tis a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” he said evenly as he smiled slighty. “And mage,” he said looking at Sir Rovach for a moment. “Troubling news, this disappearance it is. Even further still if ,as Sir Rovach says, the followers of Nergal may be involved.”
'You flatter me, my good man." Erizhi looked about the room for a moment, surpressing an emotion. "And a mage!?" she added, "That should prove quite helpful as well. I am a priestess of the goddess Ishtar. A pleasure, I am sure."
"Since you are our guest, it would only be proper to offer you the chair." Sir Rovach motions to the only empty chair at the table. "I will find another so that I may join you two." Sir Rovach then goes to find a wench who may bring him another chair. If that is unsuccessful, he will go back to the bar to ask Torvin if he may have one brought out to them.
Erizhi is about to offer the paladin her foot rest since the place is so busy, but he is off in a flash. Very full of energy, that one, she thinks.
“Really it is of no matter,” he said though the Paladin paid him no heed and walked off looking for a chair. Looking at the chair then to the lady, “May I?” he rheteorically asked as he reached for the chair and spun it around so the back of the chair faced Erizhetiana and his back faced a wall. “To tell the truth, I was a bit surprised that Sir Rovach and you were looking into this matter. Have you been traveling with him long?" He asked curiously as he took a drink of his juice. Within moments his cheese and bread arrived. “Thank you,” as he passed a few coppers to the bar wench for her troubles. Taking up a piece of bread and a bit of cheese he placed them together took a bite. After swallowing, “Where do you hail from?” he asked curiously, noting her features and finery. “I have only seen women of court wear such finery. And one as beautiful as you scarcely needs more to attract attention, here.”
After motioning for the man before her to sit, Erizhetiana looked over at the paladin as he approached the dark-haired amazon and the innkepper, Torvin. "I am only arrived here in this... town... this morning," she says, trying hard not to be derogatory. "In truth, he and I have only formally met this evening. So we have yet to actually travel together at all." Smelling the crushed fruit from his drink, she asks," What are you drinking? It smells divine."
"Like our friend, Rovach," she said, motioning to him, "my home is in the Golden Archipegalo of Immater. I am the youngest child of Ekurzakir, of the House of Iltani. Our family is not far removed from the Priest-King's line. " She looked at herself, with his comment about her appearance, jewelry making soft music as she moved. She smiled an easy smile. "I would be looked at with derision in the royal court of Immater, I am afraid," she said with a laugh. "With two older siblings, my share of the wealth is limited. A noble lady who was first-born or married to one would never wear silver, only gold. And her gems would be much larger and much more valuable than these trinkets!' She looked about again, making sure to keep tabs on the conversation that had started between Rovach and the amazon. "I suppose in a place such as this..," she caught herself again, "...I am somewhat unique," she finished.
"I am here as a sort of unofficial emissary, not only for my family, but for the Grand Temple as well," she said as she crossed one shapely leg over the other and leaned back again. "I am here to find alliances and possible business dealings in the lands of Barvain and Maletar, that will prove helpful to.... my family." She failed to mention that to her this statement had a far different meaning than it appeared on the surface. "The plight of the youngest sibling, I am afraid," she said, smiling again.
Rovach was now engaged deeply in a slightly animated and casual conversation with the woman in question. Erizhi looked over to her fair-haired companion, who was now engaged in her own conversation with the rough-looking 'dwarf', but also watching the first interaction as well. Erizhi would be sure to keep her eyes on all three of them. "It appears that we might have our numbers expanding, even as we speak," she said, nodding in the paladin's direction for Kaelyn's benefit. She looked for recognition in Kaelyn's eyes when he glanced at the amazon, but there appeared to be none. Still that did not mean that they would not be trouble.

Stephanie:
The swordswoman is somewhat startled by the length and the verbosity of the armored man's response, not that she really knew what verbosity actually meant. Still it was like being attacked by a dizzying barrage of words! She could barely get a response in edgewise.
A knight and a paladin? The terms were not lost on Steph, as they clearly indicated that the armored man was a force for good in the world. Clearly not a slaver! That embarrassing motion was quickly forgotten.
Suddenly remembering that she's not alone, Stephanie will motion towards her new friend. “Oh, this is my companion for this task, the swordswoman Asaw.”
Without even realizing what is going on, Steph is lead over to the table where the two others are seated. Well, if the armored man is a paladin of some new god, then perhaps the woman isn't for hire either. Or perhaps not in the matter first expected.
“Hi” Steph will say with a small wave when introduced, as she's sure the verbose knight will do most of the talking.

“I do?”Sir Rovach wrote:Sir Rovach is startled by the forwardness of this swordswoman in front of him. This was the kind of greeting he was used to! Straight & to the point, with no time to waste. This is especially true if there were lives at stake.
"You do me honor with your forwardness, my Lady." Sir Rovach responds with a bow.
“A new? A new what?”Sir Rovach wrote:"I am Sir Rovach, Knight and Paladin of Anu. Indeed, myself and my new companions will be embarking ourselves to look into the disappearance of the Makkees too. I learned of their disappearance from the constable & a family friend of the Makkees. I have sworn an oath to them to discover the Makkees fate & give what aid I may. To have the fortune to meet another willing to help must truly be the work of the gods."

“Woe indeed...”Sir Rovach wrote:Motioning to Lady Erizhetiana & Kaelyn, "I may not speak for the others; their will is their own and not mine to command. But I would indeed consider it an honor to draw swords with you as we investigate the fate of the Makkees." Sir Rovach then becomes serious "And woe to any who has done them any harm."
“I wear armor not a nice as yours and fight with a sword,” Stephanie starts to say. The armored man names his companions and they also have very strange names that do not easily come forth from ones lips. It's like these foreigner's have a different word for everything! “I guess? Questions?”Sir Rovach wrote:"Before battle, we are taught that it is beneficial to know the strengths & weaknesses of those fighting along side you. Would you care to meet my other two companions, the Lady Erizhetiana and Mister Kaelyn? As I'm sure you must have questions for me as well?"
“Robatch?” Stephanie parrots, trying to get the difficult name right.Sir Rovach wrote:Sir Rovach smiles to the Lady Stephanie "And it is pronounced Rovach. But do not worry, Lady Stephanie. Erizhetiana is difficult for me, and the Lady is from my own country. Forsooth, I don't think I could even spell that name without writing it down and copying it when needed!" Sir Rovach laughs.
Suddenly remembering that she's not alone, Stephanie will motion towards her new friend. “Oh, this is my companion for this task, the swordswoman Asaw.”

Aesa:
"Then perhaps it is good you did not see the last fight," Aesa muses. "It was more of a chicken chase than a clashing of swords."Butternut snorts in amusement. "Nah, I just wanted to watch you two give some guys a good thumping."
"Possibly," Aesa replies. "My fellow swordswoman and I," she indicates Stephanie who is now engaged in conversation with the armored noble, "are going to investigate the disappearance of a farming family. It's about a half-day's ride from here I believe so we plan to leave at dawn's first light. Everyone is concerned given this village's festival and the family not having arrived for it."The woman's answer is not much of an answer. "Anything I can help with?" she asks with a smirk.
She takes the offered hand and replies, "I am Aesa of Rhidhelmark. Pleasure to meet you.""By the way, my name's Butternut." She sticks out a halfling-sized hand for a shake. "What's yours?"
Aesa hears Stephanie mention her name, sort of, and turns an eye to see if she will be meeting the armored noble momentarily.Suddenly remembering that she's not alone, Stephanie will motion towards her new friend. “Oh, this is my companion for this task, the swordswoman Asaw.”

"Close enough, my Lady." says Sir Rovach. "I'm sure it will become easier with time as you hear it pronounced."“Robatch?” Stephanie parrots, trying to get the difficult name right.
"I would consider it an honor if you would some time tonight introduce me to the Lady Asaw." replies Sir Rovach. Truely, this must be a good land to attract & keep such good people within it's borders!Suddenly remembering that she's not alone, Stephanie will motion towards her new friend. “Oh, this is my companion for this task, the swordswoman Asaw.”

Butternut:
Aesa appears distracted momentarily, glancing off toward her tall friend. Following her gaze, it appears the friend is joining the knight and his other companions. Could they be talking about the missing family, or is there something else going on?
Butternut snorts once more. "Sounds entertaining," she says with a snicker. Despite herself, Butternut is finding that she is starting to like this strange woman."Then perhaps it is good you did not see the last fight," Aesa muses. "It was more of a chicken chase than a clashing of swords."
The halfling woman suddenly becomes very serious. "I grew up in this area. Do you know the name of this family?" Can the goblins have been so bold as to strike so near the town?"Possibly," Aesa replies. Erizhetiana of Lotan -
Erizhi talks to Kaelyn the swordsman and mage, while leeping tabs on the rest of the goings on in the Inn. It is not long before Rovach approaches with the dark-haired amazon as well. Either he is quite the recruiter or hopelessly naive. Erizhi would wait to pass that judgement just now. It has been said to keep friends close and enemies closer. If the amazons were trouble, then it appeared they would be easy to keep track of now. A pity that her brothers did not feel the same about her.
Approaching the table where the Lady Erizhetiana and Mister Kaelyn are seated, Sir Rovach waits for a moment for them to acknowledge their presence and says "I was pleasently sidetracked in my quest for a chair, my friends. “Hi” Steph will say with a small wave when introduced, as she's sure the verbose knight will do most of the talking.
Erizhi looks the woman, girl really, up and down. She looks as much a warrior as the paladin and mere inches shorter only also. Well, if she can use that large sword, so much the better. Perhaps a large group of fighters would be helpful in not only this excursion, but also the future.
"I am Erizhetiana of the House Iltani," Erizhi responds to the introduction. "I am from the capital of Immater - Lotan and a priestess of the goddess Ishtar. Welcome to our expedition. Will your companions be joining us as well?"

It is funny how the fates can gather people together so quickly.” Looking thoughtfully across the table, “Honeysuckle and berry, if I am not mistaken. Stephanie:
Stephanie gestures for Aesa to come closer, completely unaware that she has made the acquaintance of a small woman.
“Ahsah, this is Sir... Sir Rowach, a paladin of some new god. Like Sahna said, he is gathering companions together to investigate the farm tomorrow. Looks like we'll be riding together. Come, we are going to meet his other companions.”
“I've secured a room for the night as well,” she tells Aesa. “Only a semi-private room was left so we'll be sharing it.”
“Hello, Lady priest”, is all that she manages to get out deciding not to even try that long of a name. “It does seem that we share a common goal, so traveling together does make sense.”
After a time, Steph will say, “We were planning on leaving at first light to reach the farm by mid day. We'll all need a good night's rest as the ride tomorrow will take several hours. Then hopefully we can get to the bottom of this mystery.”
“Hopefully,” Stephanie says. “I've not traveled much so such names are strange to my ears and mouth.”Sir Rovach wrote:"Close enough, my Lady." says Sir Rovach. "I'm sure it will become easier with time as you hear it pronounced."

Erizhetiana of Lotan -
“A priestess, I would've taken you for a diplomat.” He shakes he head slightly and takes another sip of his fruit juice.
"I may be that as well," she responded. "They are not mutually exclusive."
...
Chuckling slightly, Kaelyn smirks, “You are far too generous, I trust your ride was a pleasant one? Odd. It is funny how the fates can gather people together so quickly.” Looking thoughtfully across the table, “Honeysuckle and berry, if I am not mistaken. It is nice refreshment when one is not in the mood for mead.” He says looking down into his mug then up at the priestess. ‘Would you care to try it?” he asked offering the mug.
"My ride was none too pleasant, to be honest. To be devoid of retainers and helpers was a bit of a 'challenge' to get used to, for one thing. That and the weather was not so accomodating either. I don't think I have been rained upon so much as I was in Baravain." She tries to put the long agonizing trip our of her mind. "In my temple they say this about 'change': it will always happen more quickly than expected and never in the way that we expect it!"
Kaelynn explains briefly about his drink and actually offers her some. She is surprised for a moment and then decides to accept the offer. Some cultures 'break bread'. Maybe this is the equivalent here. Erizhi takes a small sip and lets the flavor linger in her mouth. She smiles as she hands the mug back to her companion. "I will have one of those," she says, as she signal the nearest serving wench. "And in my desire to try out the local fare, I seem to have far more than I could ever eat myself. You are welcome to partake, if you would be inclined."
“Immater?” Suddenly tensing slightly and wondering if this woman could be trusted. He noted the gentle chime of her jewelry. Going on further though cautiously, “I am the second son of Damar of Maletar. My mother was a jewelry cutter/maker of some skill, some say she bordered on having magical skill. "Ah, so you are from this country. Very good. And that explains why you were looking at me earlier. You were gauging the quality of my jewels...." she says.
...
“Hello, Lady priest”, is all that she manages to get out deciding not to even try that long of a name. “It does seem that we share a common goal, so traveling together does make sense.”
Erizhi is about to say something, but catches the start of the words in her throat. "Very good," she manages. She looks at the girl again. How unfeminine this poor girl is. What a pity, even despite her size and obvious warrior physique. Erizhi might have to teach this girl a thing or two, for her own benefit, before too long.
After a time, Steph will say, “We were planning on leaving at first light to reach the farm by mid day. We'll all need a good night's rest as the ride tomorrow will take several hours. Then hopefully we can get to the bottom of this mystery.”
"A wise choice. I think I shall retire, err long, as I just arrived in town this morning and while the day was rather leisurely, tomorrow could end up extremely less so."
Probably where I get it from.” He said with a laugh.

Aesa:
Before being dragged off to meet the others, she turns back to include the halfling. "This is Butternut," she introduces, "and although having just met, she remarks at being from this area. She seems interested about what is going on but I do not wish to speak entirely for her." Aesa will instead see if the halfling offers anything further.
When meeting the other two she will also greet them, "I am Aesa of Rhidhelmark. Pleasure to meet you both." Talk turns to calling it a night and she thinks it's a grand idea considering they should leave as early as possible, "I suggest just before dawn's first light if all can manage it. These poor people may have been in need of assistance for a full day now."
"They are the Makkee's if I heard it correctly," Aesa replies. The halfling woman suddenly becomes very serious. "I grew up in this area. Do you know the name of this family?"
"It is far north of here," she replies simply. "Beautiful country if you can stand the cold."Riddlemark? Hmm... never heard of it. I had guessed from your accent and coloring that you weren't from around here."
"Aesa," she offers helpfully, then turns to address the paladin. "I am Aesa of Rhidhelmark. Pleasure to meet you," she offers. "A new god? It would seem there are more of those now then ever." A paladin, she thinks, that bodes well, though I am uncertain of gods suddenly appearing and amassing worshippers.Stephanie gestures for Aesa to come closer, completely unaware that she has made the acquaintance of a small woman.
“Ahsah, this is Sir... Sir Rowach, a paladin of some new god. Like Sahna said, he is gathering companions together to investigate the farm tomorrow. Looks like we'll be riding together. Come, we are going to meet his other companions.”

"Far enough. I don't need much," Aesa replies. "Let me know of the cost and I will split its price."“I've secured a room for the night as well,” she tells Aesa. “Only a semi-private room was left so we'll be sharing it.”

Sir Rovach
Our party grows even more, thinks Sir Rovach. Surely this must be a sign. But of what, or the plans Anu has before him, Sir Rovach wonders. But he is grateful for the help being offered to look into the Makkee's plight.
"Lady Aesa, the honor is all mine to meet you." Sir Rovach responds with a bow. "Anu has long been a god to my people, but could be relatively unknown in these lands. Now I am no priest but a warrior, my Lady, but if you would liketo know more about him you have just to ask. Hopfully, I may best represent him to you through my actions.""Aesa," she offers helpfully, then turns to address the paladin. "I am Aesa of Rhidhelmark. Pleasure to meet you," she offers. "A new god? It would seem there are more of those now then ever."

Sir Rovach has heard of beings such as this Butternut, but has never met one. He couldn't quite remember the name of her race. Of course, to ask might come across as rude. Bowing first, Sir Rovach says as he greets the small being before him. "Lady Butternut, it is a pleasure to meet you. Butternut:
Aesa's tall friend summons her over to meet the other strangers, so Butternut begins to turn away. But before she can go far, Aesa introduces her.
Several of the humans mention meeting at dawn to begin the investigation, so Butternut just nods in acceptance of that plan. She had been looking for something to occupy herself, and this will serve as well as anything.
"The Makkees... I fear you did hear a'right. While I don't recall ever meeting them, I certainly know of them. Their's is the largest cattle ranch in the region, as far as I know. They provided most of the meat, not only for this town, but also our clanhome.""They are the Makkee's if I heard it correctly," Aesa replies.
Butternut nods. "That would explain why I've never heard of it. Never much liked the cold, myself.""It is far north of here," she replies simply. "Beautiful country if you can stand the cold."

Sir Rovach
After his evening prayers are done Sir Rovach will go to sleep, awaking the next morning to don his equipment, gather his horse, and meet the other companions outside the inn at first light.
Sir Rovach replies "Yes, Lady Butternut. Lord Anu was their deity as well as ours. I am his servant, out in this world to be an example of His way." Sir Rovach smiles "Of course, I was never much of a preacher. That's why my calling found this path in His service.""Sir Rovach, eh? Pleasure's mine, I'm sure. Never heard of Immater, but the name of your deity sounds vaguely familiar; ancient Akorian god, wasn't he?"
Sir Rovach waits awhile to see if anyone had anything else to say to him, answering any and all inquiries. If not, he will then follow the advice of Mister Kaelyn. Wishing everyone a good night and proceeding to his room, Sir Rovach will begin by caring for his armor & weapons. Placing his breastplate against the door and his sword next to his bed, he will end the evening with his nightly prayers to Anu. He thanks Anu for the mission he has put before him & the companions that he has meet. He finishes off his prayers by asking for the opportunity to do his will.“ Then I guess it is time to part ways. Until the morning.” He says as the others are wanting to disperse and meet up in the morning.

Butternut:
"It would seem so. And what is your name and from whence do you hail?"
It appears the other are all ready to head to their rooms. Butternut had not planned that far, perhaps because she is so used to sleeping under the stars. She will have to address that, as well as make provisions for Springheel, so named for the pony's spirited nature. Time to speak with the innkeeper once again. Looking about the room at the bustle resulting from the fair, she suspects that the inn may be full, though it would be nice to sleep indoors once again.
As the others drift away, Butternut returns to the bar. Climbing up and standing on one of the stools, she waits for Torvin's attention. "Master Torvin? Have you any space left for sleeping or room in your stable for my pony?"

Erizhetiana of Lotan -
Erizhi makes the remaining introductions to Aesa and Butternut, offering the same basic information she had to the others: her name, family name, homeland and that she is a priestess of Ishtar.
"I seem to have more food here than I am able to consume myself. If anyone wishes to partake, please feel free. It was quite enjoyable!"
She will stand and start to collect her books and papers, and throws her fringed shawl over her shoulder as well. "I wish each of you a good night and a pleasant rest. I fear the morning shall come earlier than expected and I should retire now in order to be prepared for such a start." She stops for a moment as she realizes how the two amazon warriors tower over her. She looks from one to the other for a brief moment, but says nothing.
With a slight bow to everyone, she takes her armfull and heads to her private chamber, a light melodious sounds accompanying her footsteps until she is out of sight.
Erizhi will put away her books and effects and make sure she knows where her equipment is. Most of her gear is in her horse's saddle bags and she has not yet decided if she will wear her leather armor for the ride tomorrow, or just pack it for the trip.
A barwench brings her a mug of crushed fruit that she had ordered and she enjoys that as she lays on the bed, relaxing and thinking about her future plans. Once the sweet beverage is finally finished, and her evening prayer ritual is complete, she will get herself some sleep. First light indeed....

After a few more brief introductions and exchanges of pleasantries everyone seems ready to head to their rooms. Aesa herself is tired from the trek and the earlier bout. I guess my place will be forfeit on the morrow, she thinks. Truly it is a small matter and thinks nothing more of it.
Aesa smiles and gives a small nod. Close enough, she thinks to herself.“A-sah?” Stephanie tried to repeat, hoping that is closer than what she said before.
Aesa will retrieve four silver from her pouch and place them into Stephanie's hand.“As do I,” Steph answers. “Eight silvers was all it cost.”

"Good night," she replies simply as she begins removing her leather armor and stacking it at the foot of her bed. It is far too warm to sleep in anything and so does not. Instead she offers up prayers to the oldest of gods and finds a comfortable spot upon her bed to curl up and find sleep.“Good night, A-sah” Stephanie offers. “Tomorrow promises to be an interesting day.”

You head across the road and see the large stables added as an afterthought behind the groom's residence. The wood isn't as weathered-looking, even in the thin light of the dying day, so you can figure it was an addition of necessity as the interest and attraction of the inn grew. From what you can recall you don't believe these stables where here when you last visited some seven years past.
You head around and find the main door to the long, narrow stables open. You call out and at first no one responds except the horses stabled there near the front. After a moment, an older man in well-worn clothing and a scraggly beard appears from well near the back. He wipes his hands with a dirty rag as he approaches you. "Ah, good enough," he says with high spirits even though his face shows exhaustion. "There are a few stalls left. I'll only charge you four coppers for the pony," he offers. "I can't do any re-shoeing though, but can do some scraping of the hooves and make sure the animal is well fed and watered for the night."
"Easy enough," he says as he takes the coins.Butternut smirks at Torvin's last suggestion. He has no idea how many times she has done exactly that. The common rooms are just that, so you won't need to collect a key or anything from the innkeeper. Instead just walk up to the third floor, find an unclaimed spot on the floor in one of the two large rooms, use your pack or hands as a pillow and you're all set!"Okay, that works.

Butternut:
Once the transaction is complete, Butternut returns to the inn and heads up to the third floor. Checking the two common rooms, she selects the less crowded one, and picks a spot near wall, preferably in a corner if any of those are not already taken. Taking off her leather armor, she folds up her cloak to make a pillow and lays down. It's not long before she's nodding off to sleep.
"Nice to meetcha," Butternut says, extending her tiny hand for a shake. "That's not far from here, as I recall..."“Oh, sorry, I am Stephanie Plowman of Everson, a town to the west of here.”
"Good enough," Butternut says, dropping the requested payment into the man's hand. "He's a bit feisty, but a good horse none-the-less. I'll be back for him at dawn."You head around and find the main door to the long, narrow stables open. You call out and at first no one responds except the horses stabled there near the front.
