New Kingdoms #2

Post by GM Fenrir »

The village of Dormare is a busy place this spring. The annual festival and market are prepared to get underway tomorrow as are a number of tournaments. As the days progress, there is undoubtedly going to be more entertainment as bards are due to arrive, and the slim chance that the Magocrat of Maletar may make an appearance is on the minds of many. For some of you, this has been a reunion of sorts, returning to the village to take in all the wonders each spring brings. For others it is someplace new entirely, and there has hardly been enough time to take in all that the village offers. Now though, night is drawing near. Those merchants who had opened a day early are beginning to close down and the few organizers who had tournaments underway have completed their day as well. Many head for the Inn of the Smiling Dryad for an evening meal, drinks or something else entirely.

Kaelyn -
“It is no diversion, more so a connection to one’s past. It relaxes me from the endless study one must make when dealing with magic and the arcane.” He answers back with relative calmness.
“A mage,” the merchant replies. “I can understand now that you would not have ample time to devout to both crafts.”
“Then we have an accord.” He said looking down upon the gems glinting up at him in green and slight yellow hints then up at the merchant before him. He reaches into his belt pouch and takes out the forty five gold and placing it before the merchant. “May I inquire to who the crafter was?” he asked politely knowing to wish the name of the crafter.
“Thank you kindly,” she replies with a smile as she takes the coins leaving you the ring and uncut gems. “Certainly you may,” she answers. “While in Rhidhelmark I studied under Faergon. His shop was in the port capital of Baeltrack. Of course the ring you picked out was one of the ones I had crafted while there,” she clarifies.
After the deal is done, Kaelyn will place the gems within his belt pouch and place it in such a way that it hangs on the inside of his leg. “It was a pleasure doing business with you.”
“Likewise,” she replies. “Farewell.” With that she concentrates on retrieving more merchandise, probably wishing to be set up for the official start of the market tomorrow.

Sir Rovach -
Sir Rovach takes a moment to read the parchment. "If I may ask you sir, what do you know about the Makkee's and that area of land where they live? Also, do you have directions on the best possible route to their homestead & what dangers might lay between here and there?"
“Their farm is almost the furthest out from the village,” Gorvan explains. “It is on the north side of the west road where it rises a bit. Their lands are down that incline, a dirt road leading off the main takes you there. They have a large amount of cattle but also raise other animals and do a little farming. There should be little in the way of dangers unless you leave at night. Then there could be wolves or such about.”
Pausing a moment to think, Sir Rovach responds to Gorvan's advice "I thank you for presenting this opportunity to me Sir. I am new to your town, so there is nobody I truely know. But I believe I may have someone in mind to start with. Their heart is good, but I have to check if they are willing to travel together with me on this cause."
“Well I can always go and post this at the inn,” Gorvan reminds you. “There are bound to be other adventurers having an evening meal or a round of drinks given the time. It is customary that whoever undertakes a post checks in with me before departing so that I know who to expect upon their, hopefully, successful return.”

“The decision is yours ultimately,” Gorvan adds after a moment, waiting to see if he will be heading to the inn to post this or closing up his office for the night.

Stephanie -
Spotting the Malanders in the crowd, Steph will wave and make her way towards them. She keeps the conversation casual, asking how they are and if any new troubles have arisen.
The conversation is about what you expect. However at one point Mrs. Malander reveals some potentially troubling news, “You know old Sahna? She said the Makkees never arrived today. Insisting there was trouble at their farmstead she was. I believe she was heading over to the constable’s not just a few minutes ago.”

You do know Sahna Falsten. Very few people don’t know her, even in other villages. Many believe she’s just an old loon, and by the look on Mr. Malanders' face, you know he thinks so too. Still she has had the uncanny ability to ‘sense’ when something is about to happen or isn't right. You don’t know how accurate she really is, but many villagers have said Sahna should write a farmer’s almanac, so there must be some truth in her ability.

“Now to think of it, I haven’t seen them either,” Mrs. Malanders continues. “It would be a shame if they didn’t bring any of their cows to market this spring. I do love their beef. I wonder what the inn will do if they don’t have any to butcher this year?”

Butternut -
It's late enough that she doesn't bother to try to look up anyone she knew from before, so she winds her way back to the inn. The Smiling Dryad stands where it always has, looking a little more worn than she recalls. It occurs to her to wonder if Master Tovin still runs the inn, or whether it has been passed into other hands. Pausing for a deep breath as she mentally prepares herself for the likely throng of people within, Butternut pulls the door open and steps inside.
Everything is much as you remember it, almost as if time stood still in your absence. Many of the patrons are even the same, although many look older as can be expected. The innkeeper is there, tending bar as he always has. He always preferred to do it himself rather than let another be the “face of the inn” as it were. That swine Rollester is there too. Thankfully he never bothered you much when he discovered you weren’t what he was looking for. The wenches are the main difference, as you don’t recognize any of them, but that’s not surprising. Youth is fleeting.

Erizhetiana -
It wasn’t long before his lusts took him toward one of the serving girls and the topic seemed to be forgotten. Perhaps something to ask of the proprietor at some point, but now didn’t seem to be the time. Certainly better when Rollester was away.
With the amount of people arriving at the inn currently, filling up seats both along the bar and at the various dining tables, you don’t suspect you’ll have much opportunity in the near future to talk privately with the innkeeper. Maybe after the drinks work their magic on the majority of the patrons and their only remaining desire is sleep will you possibly have a chance for more private conversation and inquiries. Your dinner arrives though and so you will have that to occupy you for a time. The wench pauses a moment to see if you need anything further before turning and rushing off to try to get a handle on the growing crowds.

Sir Rovach

Sir Rovach looks at the posting in his hand and replies to Gorvan "Aye, I will be undertaking this mission. I will be going back to the inn to see if I may gather others to join me; as you said, there are bound to be other adventures having drinks or their meal at this time. My thanks Sir Gorvan, and when you see me next I will have an answer for you on the fate of the Makkees."

Sir Rovach leaves the constables office and continues through the streets back to the inn. It looks like the crowds are maybe starting to thin for the evening; with the exception of the merchants it appears that most could be heading for their lodgings and/or their evening meal. With purpose in his stride, Sir Rovach doesn't stop until he arrives at the inn.

Upon arrival, Sir Rovach enters the inn and finds it even busier than before. He didn't think it was possible! Directing his gaze around the inn, he observes the innkeeper, busy as always. He proceeds to work his way around the inn, extending his pardon to a halfling that was standing in the entranceway that he had to move around, eventually noticing the noblewoman from Immater eating her evening meal. As Sir Rovach heads towards her he has to work his way through the crowd that is forming. But eventually he makes his way to the private booth she is at and approaches the noblewoman.

Sir Rovach removes his helmet and and holds it under his left arm. First looking the noblewoman in the eyes, he then bows to her, saying "Greetings my Lady. I am Sir Rovach, Paladin of Anu. I ask a moment of your time so that we may speak."

Butternut:

Once through the door, Butternut pauses and scans the room, then turns her attention to the bar. Amidst the swirling flow of patrons, she glimpses Master Tovin. Just as she starts to move toward the bar, a large armored knight strides in through the door behind her. His murmured pardon is returned with a distinctly unfeminine grunt.

When she arrives at the bar, Butternut climbs up and stands atop one of the stools. Waiting while the innkeeper sees to a couple other customers, scans the room once again, more carefully this time. She sees several faces that look familiar - particularly Rollester, who appears to be as loathesome as ever. After a few moments, she finally manages to flag the innkeeper down. "Master Tovin. I had wondered whether you still ran this place. Any news worth sharing?"

After a few moments, she finally manages to flag the innkeeper down. "Master Tovin. I had wondered whether you still ran this place. Any news worth sharing?"
“As I live and breathe!” the innkeeper says upon seeing you and he heads over right away. “I had dared hope that any others had lived. Nasty piece of business that was,” he adds solemnly. “It was one of the few things that stirred me enough to consider leaving behind my retirement. Likely I would have just gotten my fool self killed though, so better it was handled by those that did.”

“News?” he chuckles, “Years worth, although not all of it exciting. Shortly after the tragedy you had to endure we had one here that rocked this young kingdom to its core. Thanus Maletar was murdered. His second born daughter now runs the kingdom as she has the talent,” by which of course he means she can wield magic. Maletar would expect nothing less as a magocracy. “She had been hiding out here of all places with her mother. Apparently Thanus knew something was amiss and had foresight to protect the future queen while he tried to ferret out whatever plot was brewing. Untimely end for many it seems of late.”

“Oh and this as well,” he hastily adds, “Not sure if you were aware, but Bluebell survived too.” That was definitely news. Bluebell was young then, still mostly a child, but had a voice that could stir emotions. “She arrived here all out of sorts as you can well imagine. She had been away with her brother playing and picking flowers when the whole thing started. To hear her tell it, it was quite the atrocity. She told me her brother rushed in despite her pleadings. She said she was too scared to help or flee, especially after having watched him get cut down.” He pauses a moment, collecting himself. “She goes by Sorrowsong now and is living with the elves last I heard it.”

“So you here for a bit then?” he asks, changing the subject. “Festival looks to be biggest one yet. Lots of travelers and adventurers from distant lands too. Been attracting more and more. We might have the right to be called an actual town before long.”

Erizhetiana of Lotan -

Back in her comfortable chair, Erizhi has her dinner brought to her there. The place is too busy to get a table for herself by this time and she just couldn't bring herself to eat, while seated at the bar.

She ordered more food than she could likely eat, but curious to try several of the local dishes. If she was going to be here in these backwater lands awhile thanks to her exile at the hands of her eldest brother, she might as well try to see if she could get used to the normal fare. She sampled the stew, as well as some roasted poultry. Heavier than she was used to, but flavorful enough and hearty, she thought. As she samples another dish, Erizhi sees the knight of Immater return to the inn once more. She watched him briefly, without appearing too obvious that she was. However, he seems to be looking for her!

She continues eating, as he approaches, still very unsure as to his intentions. Odd to run into another from Immater in this unlikely hovel. She doesn't look up again, until he is standing only a few steps from her.

Sir Rovach removes his helmet and and holds it under his left arm. First looking the noblewoman in the eyes, he then bows to her, saying "Greetings, my Lady. I am Sir Rovach, Paladin of Anu. I ask a moment of your time so that we may speak."

A paladin, and of Anu? Well, that is an interesting development. If he was telling the truth, then likely wasn't after her specifically. Of course, anyone can say anything and that does not make it so. But she would hear the man out, curiousity would not allow otherwise. Putting her utensils down, she turns slightly to give her full attention to him. "I am Erizhetiana of the House Iltani, and a priestess of Ishtar. I am sorry that there does not appear to be anywhere for you to sit," she says motioning around. "What brings you so far from our Golden Shores?"

"None but me," Butternut replies, a mixture of anger and bitterness in her voice. "Saddlehorn and Bootstrap were slain before my eyes, and there was precious little I could do to prevent it."
“News?” he chuckles, “Years worth, although not all of it exciting. Shortly after the tragedy you had to endure we had one here that rocked this young kingdom to its core. Butternut had heard rumor of the transition, but none of the details. Still, it is human news, and thus of only minor interest to her. "What names had they gone by while here? Perhaps we had met," Butternut asks, marginally curious.

She is only half listening, and almost misses when Tovin mentions Bluebell. He continues rambling on, and she can hardly believe her ears. "B-b-bluebell... survived?!" Butternut is so taken aback that she begins to hyperventilate. "Oh-...Oh gods... She lives? Oh, gods above... I have lived... so long... believing... I was the last..."

Suddenly, a nasty, suspicious thought flares in her mind. With the speed of thought, she snags the bartender by the lapels and yanks him close. "You better not be lying to me," she growls, "or I'll gut you like a fish..."

But no. She's known this man too long, and knows the kind of man he is. As suddenly as she grabbed him, she releases him and plops down into a sitting position on the bar, her head in her hands. "No. I'm sorry, Master Tovin. This is all too much..." She struggles to regain her composure. "Please, go on..." she murmurs, and Tovin does, straightening his shirt as he rises.
“So you here for a bit then?” he asks, changing the subject. “Festival looks to be biggest one yet. Lots of travelers and adventurers from distant lands too. Been attracting more and more. We might have the right to be called an actual town before long.”
Butternut does her best to listen, though her mind is being pulled in a thousand directions. "I... don't know. I should seek out Bluebell - I mean, Sorrowsong. But there are things I should do here, as well; people I should revisit."

Butternut -
Butternut had heard rumor of the transition, but none of the details. Still, it is human news, and thus of only minor interest to her. "What names had they gone by while here? Perhaps we had met," Butternut asks, marginally curious.
“The young queen went by Aerowyn during that time,” he replies. “She spent a lot of time with Thyra as they grew up here, and upon the ranger’s return from adventuring a few years back, she named her as Ranger-General of Maletar’s army.”

The name Aerowyn doesn’t stand out as anyone you recognize, but if she was being hidden, that makes sense. Thyra on the other hand is a ranger of some renown and had left the kingdom, supposedly sailing somewhere beyond the Shining Sea on adventure, for several long years to hear it told.

Shock is the first reaction the innkeeper gives, letting a gasp escape his lips as you grab him. It takes only a moment for that to pass however, and his next words come from a side of him you, and probably very few, have ever seen in recent years. “Yes, that’s right. I admit it,” he says nearly snarling. “It was right after sitting on the edge of my bed for nearly three fortnight, a sword in hands that had grown soft and wearing only half my armor because I couldn’t remember how it buckled, mourning that loss. It was then, like some spoiled prince robbed of his believed birthright that I schemed to make you pay. For seven long years that has been brooding inside me on the almost impossible chance you were alive and would walk through my door. And now you have.”

A moment passes and he softens a bit, but his words still have no mirth to them, “Yes, I’m sure you could gut me and worse for I am past my prime, but do not think I am without friends.” He gives a slight nod of his head and you look in that direction. You see a man dressed in the garb of the militia, standing at a table not too overly distant, his meal forgotten, but with a short sword all but pulled from its scabbard. A second of the militia is getting the attention of a third whose back was to you and unaware of your actions until now. A few dozen other people are staring in disbelief. Even Rollester looks like he might do something unthinkable given his nature.

The innkeeper gives a wave of his hand palm down and turns back to you, “I doubt even your rage would be fuel enough to take on the hundred militia and trained woodsmen of Dormare. Do not let me regret the time I spent mourning the loss you endured by mourning you instead. We have all paid enough for atrocities dealt for this lifetime at least.” Assuming he doesn’t next find himself fighting for his life, the innkeeper continues sharing his news.
Butternut does her best to listen, though her mind is being pulled in a thousand directions. "I... don't know. I should seek out Bluebell - I mean, Sorrowsong. But there are things I should do here, as well; people I should revisit."
“I doubt she can be found unless she wills it to be,” he offers. “The Deep Wood is a vast place and I doubt your current methods of inquiring will sit well in the bellies of the elves. Perhaps you should have spent these seven years past among them instead, learning the ways of the reverie and tempering that hate to something you could better use. Even directed against the goblins today, you would not survive. If it is death you seek, do not make me be the hand that delivers it. It would bring me great sorrow to be forced to call you friend no more.”

“Do let me know if there is anything I can get for you," he says, adding, “although I shall not serve you heavy drink. Do not ask me of it. You are not of the mind to handle such tonight.”

Sir Rovach
"I am Erizhetiana of the House Iltani, and a priestess of Ishtar. I am sorry that there does not appear to be anywhere for you to sit," she says motioning around. "What brings you so far from our Golden Shores?"
A priestess of Ishtar? Sir Rovach expected something out of the ordinary with the noble lady sitting in front of him but not this. And a noble from the House of Iltani?! Surprised, he finds this interesting; maybe this conversation will be fruitful as he hoped?

"The pleasure & honor is all mine, Lady Erizhetiana" Sir Rovach replies. "Indeed, it is quite a distance from Immater. When I saw you my curiosity arose as well & would ask you the same thing. However, I have approached you, and interrupted your fine meal, therefore it would only be proper for me to explain myself to you first."

Taking this moment to stop a passing wench, Sir Rovach puts a couple gold coins in her hand, saying "Please maam, you have my thanks if you may bring me a chair so I may properly speak to the Lady. An ale & whatever the Lady is drinking would be much appreciated as well."

Returning his attention to Lady Erizhetiana, he continues "House IltaniI you say? I may be wrong, indeed I pray I am, but I think I heard about a death recently in your family?" Sir Rovach closes his eyes and bows his head "If so, you have my deepest condolences my Lady."

"As for myself, I have recently found my purpose to be outside Immater. My purpose is out in the world, not inwards back home. To be an example to others of His way, not through preaching to others. I have no tongue for that anyway! But through word, deeds, and actions. Nothing more really than that. The rest of the specifics you might find naive & idealistic," at this point Sir Rovach smilies "but I've heard that alot of people find my kind that way."

The wench at this time brings a chair for Sir Rovach to sit upon. "I'll be back with your drinks in a moment hon'!" she says as she hustles back towards the bar.

Rovach places his helm upon the table, removes his sword & scabbard from his back and leans it against his left leg as he sits, keeping his left hand upon its grip. "I have recently made a promise to Gorvan, the town constable. He requires a local matter to be looked in to. It might be a minor thing, nothing more. Or the situation might be more sinister. But it is an opportunity Anu has put before me, here & now to help the good people of this area. This is why I am what I am, not to spend time here shopping in the marketplace or showing off in the local tournament. Those are not my ways."

"But I can not do this alone. Yet I don't know anyone in this village who I can ask for help. I thought of asking Torvin first; if anyone would know who is honorable, trustworthy, and willing to travel with me it would probally be him. And then I remembered you here at this inn."

Sir Rovach pauses as the drinks are delivered. Speaking to the Lady and made him thirsty and he takes a drink from his mug as he continues. "I choose to approach you on this matter for a few reasons. One: I noticed that you seemed to be from Immater, perhaps even from my home city of Lotan. That would make you the closest thing to someone I "know" in this village. Two: you appeared to be a noblewoman, wearing finery & jewelry that would make you a target for any bandit on the road. Yet I do not see the normal entourage that normally accompanies nobles on their outings. That, and the fact you haven't gotten your throat cut on the road here, told me you must be a Lady of some skill. Which is what I would require of a partner. You telling me that you are a Priestess of Ishtar confirms that. Lastly, when I saw you earlier I could not detect any taint of evil in your heart. Now that doesn't mean that a person is not selfish or uncaring, but it is a start for someone I would ask help from."

Taking another drink, Sir Rovach continues "That is who I am, what I am about, and why I approached you. I ask for your help on this matter. If you are not interested, please let me know my Lady and I will bother you no more, leaving with my apologies for interrupting your dining. But if you are interested, pray tell me. I would like to know more about why a Priestess of Ishtar is to be found in this inn. And then perhaps, with Torvin's help find others who may assist us."

"What say you, my Lady?"

what you do
when it counts."

“A mage,” the merchant replies. “I can understand now that you would not have ample time to devout to both crafts.”
“Aye, But it is a means to an end.” He says with a smirk, “With hard work comes great reward.”

Kaelyn makes a mental note of the craftsman’s name. Perhaps in time he would be able to visit his shop and speak with him further, but now was not the time. Nor did he think he would have time for the foreseeable future with the thieves’ guild after him.

His mind lost in thought, he begins to retrace his footsteps toward the inn. Pushing the door open, he sees the inn has seen much business since he left. Many chairs are now full with tankards being drained. Their owners feeling the gentle kiss of the hops which would be sure to be a pounding headache come morning.

Moving his way toward the bar, Kaelyn walks between pair of merchants talking adamantly, as one splashes him with his drink. Looking down at his jerkin, he cautiously says, his tone as cold as ice , “I know I am travel worn and dirty , yet tis such a waste of a fine brew, another perhaps?” as he calls one of the barmaids over and asks her for another drink passing her a silver for her trouble then moves on towards the bar.

As he does so he spots the bejewelled raven-haired woman sitting beside a seated knight. It seems the knight found his courage to speak with one so fine. For a few moments he watches casually and attempts to overhear their conversation, hearing only the last words,
“with Torvin's help find others who may assist us."
Assist with what he wonders. “Perhaps if I were to help them, they would be willing to help me," he thought to himself.

Forgetting the would-be couple with a smirk and shake of the head, he moves deeper into the Inn, as most of the talking ceases. The metallic shine of a short sword catches his attention, his right hand curls lightly upon the hilt as he intently stared at the man. As he looks the man over he realizes their eyes are not upon him but upon the barkeep. Causing his brow to contract in confusion, as he notes several others watching the bar in disbelief. It seems a Halfling let the drink get the better of them. “Is all well, Master Torvin?” his mildly baritone voice rings out.

Erizhetiana of Lotan -

Erizhetiana smiles a bemused grin and looks about the room when the knight mentions that they are far from home. “Indeed, this is a far cry from the marble floors of my home. But there is a quaintness about it all, don’t you think?” Her grin is such that it is not easy to determine if she is being sarcastic or not.

Rovach mentions the tragedy that struck her house before she left Immater. She considers her words closely as she takes a drink from her cup. “Thank you for your kind words. Not a death, no, but just as..,” she wants to use the word ‘sinister’, but instead continues, “...tragic. Alas, our father has succumbed to a debilitating sickness that has robbed him of his consciousness. “ That statement led Erizhi down a thought process she had not considered before, and yet, now it seemed so obvious!

The paladin explains his motivations for being here and so far from Immater and also the matter for the constable. Erizhi leans forward attentively; pulling her legs closer to her and to the side and places her hands about her knees. Surprisingly, he asks her for her help. Her first thought is why to get involved in a local matter that is none of her business. But as he continues speaking, she notices the sincerity in his voice. His desire to do good. She considers him again more closely this time.

“I am indeed from Lotan. My family has always lived there. So, indeed, a connection of a sort, my good paladin. And yes, the House of Iltani is a noble line and one not so far removed from the Priest king. Alas, I am the youngest of my family and so my finery is not as extravagant as those who have a much higher station back in the Golden Archipelago,” she says while jingling the bracelets upon one wrist, with a smile. “My retainers were required back in Lotan, unfortunately and so only accompanied me to the border and then returned. You might say that I am a bit of an unofficial emissary to these lands. My brothers have entreated me with the task,” she says, as her hand strays down to the silver cuff about her left ankle and absentmindedly fondles it, “of learning about Baravain and Maletar. To try to create alliances, perhaps some business dealings. I fear that I shall be here a long time.”

“As for those who have wished to share my jewels without my consent, I have been successful in convincing them that these all belong to me and shall remain right where they are. I know that I receive a lot of looks because of this. My vanity says to me that they are admiring the beauty of my face or the curves of my body and not the sparkle of the stones,” she says with a laugh. “But to be serious, Ishtar is not only the goddess of love, but also of war.” She leaves that alone to complete her explanation.

Erizhi chuckles at one comment and she takes another sip of her wine. “Such a compliment! Yes, I probably could be described as selfish and somewhat uncaring at times. But these lands also appear to be my home away from home for now. And allies are always important. Nay, they are necessary in a place such as this. What better connection than two ‘exiled’ Immaterians? Perhaps we can also show them the advantages of our homeland?”

“I mentioned my main purpose earlier. My eldest brother has now begun to take over the duties of our family. He decided, and with the blessing of the Temple of Ishtar, that his youngest sibling might prove successful in dealings with the local lords. I suppose a pretty face has its advantages in negotiations.”

“So what is this task of great import that we must complete?” This paladin may prove helpful in her plans. Why had she not realized it before? Zakiti was the one who attempted to cleanse her father of the malady that afflicted him. Her brother’s potion had been very effective. But what if Zakiti had not truly made the attempt and it was only for show? Clearly she was the one within the temple who approved her brothers ‘decision to banish her to these uncivilized territories. She smiled again, not wanting to appear too calculating, but the wheels of revenge had finally started to turn.

She said the Makkees never arrived today. Insisting there was trouble at their farmstead she was. I believe she was heading over to the constable’s not just a few minutes ago.”
“Yes, I know of her,” Stephanie answers with a nod. “I haven't seen them either, but yours are the first familiar faces that I've seen since I've arrived.”
Mrs. Malander wrote:“Now to think of it, I haven’t seen them either,” Mrs. Malanders continues. “It would be a shame if they didn’t bring any of their cows to market this spring. I do love their beef. I wonder what the inn will do if they don’t have any to butcher this year?”
“I'll see if I can find Sahna,” Stephanie promises.
Aesa wrote:"Hardly," she replies a bit frustrated, making her accent more pronounced. "That boy had skill but it wasn't tempered in combat. I was nothing more than a fox chasing a hen in there. A hen that escaped back to the hen house at that."
“More like a bear than a fox,” Stephanie says with a light laugh. “I believe you scared him into submission with that growl of yours! I can assure that if we should face each other, that tactic will not work against me.”
Aesa wrote:Returning the sword to its rack, she turns back to Stephanie, "I am Aesa of Rhidhelmark. Pleasure to meet you."
“I was about to head to an inn for a meal, if you care to join me,” Stephanie says. “There is also someone I am looking for, someone who might be in need of help.”

Whether Aesa agreees or not, Steph will head out to find the Inn or the constable’s office. Then it hits her that she's not quite sure where either of those places are, so will just wander around looking for either one. If she finds the Inn first, she will go in and secure lodging for the night. If its the constable, then she will see if Sahna is there.

Sir Rovach
“Indeed, this is a far cry from the marble floors of my home. But there is a quaintness about it all, don’t you think?”
"Indeed, there is," Sir Rovach replies, agreeing with Lady Erizhetiana's comment. Eye's taking on a far away look, he says, "Yet, it's kind of more to my liking. Simpler. My heart tells me this is a good place, with good people." He returns his attention back to Lady Erizhetiana, attentive to what she has to say.
“Thank you for your kind words. Not a death, no, but just as..,”
"Forgive me, my Lady," Sir Rovach replies, bowing his head to the Lady Erizhetiana "I was never one to be well versed on court gossip. I am glad to hear he has not gone on his final journey. There is still hope. And if the strength of his daughter is any hint of the strength that flows through his blood, I have no doubt he will cast aside this foul sickness that lays him low."
"..she says with a laugh. “But to be serious, Ishtar is not only the goddess of love, but also of war.”
Smiling at this comment, Sir Rovach remembers his lessons taught to him about the other Gods & Goddesses alongside Anu, especially the more practical advice given him by Sir Atohmos. "I have heard it said that they are both, most of the time, the same thing." Chuckling at this for a few seconds, he continues, "And we were taught not to underestimate her devoted on the field of battle. No fire burns hotter than those two aspects. Together they can be fearsome indeed."
"Yes, I probably could be described as selfish and somewhat uncaring at times."
Sir Rovach is shocked to hear this; not at any sort of admission by Erizhetiana but that he was misunderstood. "My Lady!" Sir Rovach replies with sincerity in his voice. "I was not referring to you at all. Just a general statement about the nature of people. I say it again: I saw no evil in your heart. Nothing more or less. And, if I may be so bold, that enhances your beauty more than any of those jewels you are wearing." Closing his eyes, bowing his head, and placing his right hand over his heart he replies "Please accept my apologies Lady, for not being clear and if any insult was taken."
"Perhaps we can also show them the advantages of our homeland?”
Sir Rovach is relieved; it appears that the Lady did not take any insult. He is glad; to insult a lady who has not done him wrong in any way would be against all that he believes in.
Sir Rovach hears her latest comment and nods his head in agreement. "Yes, my Lady. That is my thought as well. And if I may be so bold, why I am out here? I had become, shall we say, 'disenchanted' back home." Sir Rovach is surprised how easy the words come pouring out. "For too long we have just looked inward. Not realizing that we are part of a greater world. I even see it in my fellow Knights back home; good fighters, yet just as concerned, if not more, with status & station than they are serving the people and being a living example of His will. So, while I am still part of the Church, I have gone out into the world to be that example to others. To show the world what it means to truely be Immaterian." Shaking his head, he says "I am not arrogant enough to believe I will change the world, or their views, myself. But I can at least be a small example to others."
“So what is this task of great import that we must complete?”

Sir Rovach hands the posting Gorvan had written to Lady Erizhetiana. "A local family, known as the Makkees, appears to have gone missing. They live on a farm, probably the furthest farm out from this village. To get there I have been told you take the west road to where it rises a bit and head north down the incline. There is a dirt road that leads off the main path towards their farm."
Sir Rovach pauses a moment to let the Lady read the posting and hear what he had said. Then he continues. "Their farm was passed by another local and her sons while they traveled here. They appear to have known the Makkees for some time. She witnessed the doors to their farmhouse wide open, with no lights or sign of anyone present. The farm animals were seen wandering, untended. And most of all, even though it was early morning, there appeared to be "an unnatual darkness" over the farm that caused this lady much distress."
"These locals are farmers who have been born & raised in these parts their whole lives. They know the land better than anyone. They might be simple folk, but they have a wisdom in them that cannot be ignored. For that, I believe this lady."

Sir Rovach looks upon the Lady Erizhetiana, trying to judge her reaction to his description of the issue at hand. "I'm sure there is a reward of coin for this job. Indeed, I will have such need of coin in the future if I remain on my path & will not turn down such. But I haven't really looked at that. The approval of my Lord, in addition to the help I may give these people, is at the top of my mind at this time."

"So my Lady, what do you think? Will you help me with this matter? And if so, I would like to hear your opinion and advice." Sir Rovach then takes a drink of his ale, attentive to what the Lady Erizhetiana might say.
"You are
what you do
when it counts."

Aesa lets a smile slip, almost as if she had some private joke she wasn't sharing. "I doubt you would be so easily cowed," she admits.
“I was about to head to an inn for a meal, if you care to join me,” Stephanie says. “There is also someone I am looking for, someone who might be in need of help.”
"A meal is most desireable, and something to wash it all down," Aesa replies. "I've been long on the road and only the tournament proved distraction enough at the time."

As they start walking, she'll inquire more about the person Stephanie is looking for, "This is someone you know I wager? Is that what brought you here to this village?"
That which must be done will be done.

Erizhetiana of Lotan -

Rovach offers his wishes in regards to her father and smiles and nods in his direction, both for the kind words and the compliment he offered to her.

"And we were taught not to underestimate her devoted on the field of battle. No fire burns hotter than those two aspects. Together they can be fearsome indeed."

‘Oh, do I really seem fearsome to you, good knight,” she says with a laugh.

Erizhi laughs again when Rovach begins to apologize for his comments and tries to take them back. She continues to play with her anklets, as he stammers through his apology. “It would not be the first time I have been called such,” she chuckles. “You will have to do much worse to offend me, I am afraid! But thank you for the compliment. And your dangerous-looking appearance and so much metal and leather seems to belie a very delicate soul inside. Your apology is accepted.”

“I have heard the same words from inside the halls of my House. That the old ways are passed and it is time to embrace a new way of thinking. To join with those around us and create an opportunity for mutual advancement and advantage. I fear that Immater will not go quietly to such a fate however.”

Erizhi takes the posting offered to her and leans back to read the information. But Rovach repeats the same basic information. Nothing new to be learned here. “It could be nothing,” she finally states. “I would imagine that much like in Immater, the common folk here have many superstitions and very easy to make a misunderstanding into something much larger and more sinister.” She hands the posting back to the knight.

“Assuming this is not simply a tall tale or some other easy explanation and that what she says is true: then the talk of ‘unnatural darkness’ begins to imply something supernatural, or perhaps even undead. This festival seems to hold no political advantage, unless their queen makes an appearance. So disrupting this event for any gain, seems unlikely as well. In truth, the answers are more likely to be found on this farm, than through any conjecture. An investigation is in order.”

“Someone I've heard of,” Steph admits. “Truly, I only learned about this possible situation while you were engaged in your 'chicken chase'. A woman named Sahna seems to believe that some farmers vanished. Most folks around here think she's touched in the head, others say she's some kind of seer. I thought I would speak to her if I came across her.”

“Aye, But it is a means to an end.” He says with a smirk, “With hard work comes great reward.”
“True enough,” the merchant says with a smile.
It seems a Halfling let the drink get the better of them. “Is all well, Master Torvin?” his mildly baritone voice rings out.
If he heard you, the innkeeper chooses to ignore you, instead conversing with the Halfling at length. The off-duty militia seem to be convinced that all is okay and return to their meal. The other patrons eventually begin talking amongst themselves as well, and things are once more normal.

Eventually the innkeeper does turn his attention to you, so he had heard you after all. “Things are fine my good man,” he says smiling. “Just two longtime friends discussing some deep matters. Can I get you anything?”

Sir Rovach and Erizhetiana -

Shortly after the serving wench brings a chair for Sir Rovach to sit upon but before she can return with your drinks, there is apparently a commotion at the bar.
“Is all well, Master Torvin?” his mildly baritone voice rings out.
Both of you were too engaged in your conversation to know what happened exactly, but when the man you had both seen earlier calls out to inquire if the innkeeper is well, you become aware of how quiet it had become at that side of the inn.

Everything looks fine but you see three men of the militia sheathing steel before returning to their table and the waiting meal. The innkeeper is deep in conversation with the Halfling that Sir Rovach passed on his way in. Both of you notice Rollester lingering like he might be forced to intervene in whatever happened, but he turns and slinks away after a moment.

Stephanie -
“I'll see if I can find Sahna,” Stephanie promises.
“Oh that would be wonderful, my dear,” Mrs. Malander says grasping your hand in both of hers for a moment and smiling. “You’ve always been so good to us all.”
The three-story wood and stone building that is the Inn of the Smiling Dryad can’t really be missed as, besides the watch tower, it is the largest structure in the whole village. It isn’t too far from where you had completed the first round of the swords tournament either. The constable’s office you are certainly unfamiliar with, having had no need to visit there, so the inn seems the best choice. Besides it would seem your newest acquaintance and fellow competitor could use a meal and a drink as well.

Heading in that direction, you spot a woman huddled in her shawl and moving briskly. She looks nervous, possibly worried, as she makes her way towards where the merchants are setting up for tomorrow’s market. The woman is whom you believe to be Sahna.

Sir Rovach
‘Oh, do I really seem fearsome to you, good knight,” she says with a laugh.
Sir Rovich smiles and raises an eyebrow at this comment. The Lady is so unlike those devoted who you knew in the service of Anu! She appears intelligent, with a hint of mischievousness in her, balanced by some common sense. Traveling as a companion with the Lady should prove very interesting you think.

"Looks are not everything, my Lady." Sir Rovach replies. "In truth, they can be a weapon too. Distracting your enemy from your true strength." He grins and says "Aye, you're dangerous, my Lady."

Sir Rovach accepts the posting back from the Lady Erizhetiana. "Your assesment of the situation appears sound to me. I agree, an investigation is in order. And the sooner the better; I agree it may just be local superstition but if the possibility exists that this family is in trouble then the sooner the better."

Finishing his ale, Rovach sets his mug down and pauses to consider things for a moment. "Hmmm. We are still only two. I'll admit that investigations are not my specialty, but battle. However blessed we are by our Gods, I believe we are going to need some additional help on this matter. Someone who knows the land, that can be a type of scout for us." The next comment Sir Rovach adds with another of his smiles "And no matter how much I would like to think I am the greatest swordsman around, I know my capabilities and will not tempt Anu in his protection of me. We could use another blade or two as well."
“Is all well, Master Torvin?” his mildly baritone voice rings out.
This voice rings out and interrupts your conversation with the Lady. A tingling sensation goes down your spine, a sense that something is wrong. Sir Rovach quickly turns his head towards the bar where the voice came from, ready to act at the sign of trouble. But...he sees nothing. Or at least nothing that appears like trouble starting. Of course the gentleman dressed in black who he saw earlier, along with the halfling dressed in black Sir Rovach passed on his way in here, and what appears to be a number of guardsmen putting their swords away....it all gives Sir Rovach the hint that maybe something just happened, or trouble was brewing, but has been contained for the moment.

Still watching the bar, Sir Rovach says "Well, my Lady. It appears our sleepy little village does have some possibilities of excitement in it." Whatever might have been the issue, the moment has passed and the patrons around the bar continue whatever business they had before the outburst.

Returning to the matter at hand, Sir Rovach asks Lady Erizhetiana "Do you know of anybody that you would have join us my Lady? If not, I say we start by speaking with Torvin on this matter. I'll wager that he knows more about the Makkees, in addition to putting us in contact with the right help."

Erizhetiana of Lotan -

"Looks are not everything, my Lady." Sir Rovach replies. "In truth, they can be a weapon too. Distracting your enemy from your true strength."

"Oh indeed. A pretty face alone is nothing special. There is so much more to it than that. And for some it is nothing more than a tool, to be exploited," she says, accepting the new drink and bowing her head slightly in thanks.

He grins and says "Aye, you're dangerous, my Lady."

Erizhi grins over her cup before sipping and winks. "Now that might be the most truthful statement yet," she says with an easy giggle.

As they begin to discuss the method for beginning the investigation and the possibility of additional assistance, a hush breaks out in the room. Eri catches it immediately, but before anything can come of the encounter, it is over. Her eyes scan the room quickly taking it all in: the short little creature had some angry words with the innkeeper and all about there were those ready to rush to his defense. Truly he had his supporters who would defend him at a moment's notice. Something to respect. And yet they also seemed to know each other. Some interesting acquaintances the man has kept. All is back to normal and the normal sounds of the inn take over once more.

Still watching the bar, Sir Rovach says "Well, my Lady. It appears our sleepy little village does have some possibilities of excitement in it."

"Such can be the case when too many people are gathered in one place and too much drink is consumed," she answers. "I imagine that the excitement will only grow with each day of the festival!"

"I am afraid that I have not had the occasion to meet anyone here, excluding you, who appears to be more than a normal townsfolk or farmer or merchant. None that icould recommend, to be sure." Then for a moment, her eyes drift over again to where the man in black, who was here at the bar earlier, still stood. Catching Rovach's eye with her own, she leads him to look in the man's direction.

Then for a moment, her eyes drift over again to where the man in black, who was here at the bar earlier, still stood. Catching Rovach's eye with her own, she leads him to look in the man's direction.
Sir Rovach follows Erizhetiana's gaze over to the bar & the man dressed in black. He did not have the look of a warrior about him, yet his equipment and stance showed Rovach that he was no stranger to the road. This man appeared to him to be able to defend himself. Sir Rovach had looked into his heart earlier as well, finding nothing disturbing there. Still....

"I had also looked into his heart when I was here last. I found no taint of evil there either. But are you sure my Lady? Is this based upon what you know or instinct?" Sir Rovach asks Lady Erizhetiana about the man.

Setting his now empty mug aside, Sir Rovach says "Well, it's like Sir Atohmos used to tell me: "How do you know a man is honest"?" Sir Rovach grins ""Ask him." If you'll excuse me for a moment my Lady, I will return shortly. Let's see if our potential friend will spend a moment to speak to us."

Sir Rovach stands from the table where he was speaking to Lady Erizhetiana, returns his sword to it's place on his back and carries his helm under his left arm. He proceeds to make his way to the bar where the man in black is, attempting to weave his way through the other patrons as nimbly as possible for a man of his size so equipped. Finally making his way to the bar & easing his way to a place next to the man in black, Sir Rovach waves for Torvin yet addresses the black dressed man. "May I ask you a question gentle Sir?" Sir Rovach begins his conversation.

"Are you a good man?" is the question Sir Rovach asks of the gentleman dressed in black next to him.

His brow furrows as the innkeeper makes no acknowledgement of his words. Gazing about the inn he sees the militia sheath their swords and return to their meals and drink. Apparently all is well.
After some time the innkeeper looks to him and says: Eventually the innkeeper does turn his attention to you, so he had heard you after all. “Things are fine my good man,” he says smiling. “Just two longtime friends discussing some deep matters. Can I get you anything?”
“Pardon my inquery then.” He says as he raises he hands up and inclines his head. “I do not require much, some cheese and bread would suffice. And a tankard of crushed fruit juice, if you please.” He says evenly with a hint of a smile, passing the coins towards the innkeeper.

Looking at the Halfling as he waits for his drink he says, “My sincere apologizes for interrupting your quarrel. I only wished to see no one harmed in this fine establishment.”

Finally making his way to the bar & easing his way to a place next to the man in black, Sir Rovach waves for Torvin yet addresses the black dressed man.
"May I ask you a question gentle Sir?" Sir Rovach begins his conversation.
Leaning on the bar his forearms squarely set upon the wooden counter as someone approaches, and waves upon the innkeeper, then speaks to him. He chuckles more to himself then to the new comer. “I believe you just did so,Sir.” He says with a smirk upon his face, as he looks up into to the face of the apparent warrior before him.
"Are you a good man?"
is the question Sir Rovach asks of the gentleman dressed in black next to him.
Rising up he leans lightly upon the counter. His cold blue eyes, looking over the man before him, wondering if he is friend or foe, it was to close to tell. “Gentle I am when the need suits me. But to answer your question if I am good, that depends on your meaning of the word. When it comes to life, most of the time I do what I must, the rest of the time I do what I feel is right.”

Offering his hand, “Kaelyn of Maletar, A mage and swordsman of some skill. And who do I have the pleasure of speaking with?”

"May I ask you a question gentle Sir?" Sir Rovach begins his conversation.
“I believe you just did so,Sir.” He says with a smirk upon his face
Sir Rovach smiles, liking this beginning and continues speaking to this man dressed in black.

"Are you a good man?" Sir Rovach asks him.
“Gentle I am when the need suits me. But to answer your question if I am good, that depends on your meaning of the word. When it comes to life, most of the time I do what I must, the rest of the time I do what I feel is right.”
Sir Rovach replies with a "Mmmmmm" for a second while he thinks upon the strangers comment. Before he can reply, the stranger offers up some more information.
Offering his hand, “Kaelyn of Maletar, A mage and swordsman of some skill. And who do I have the pleasure of speaking with?”
Sir Rovach extends his hand forward, gripping Kaelyn's hand with his own, replying "I am Sir Rovach, Paladin of Anu. It is my honor to meet your acquaintance. And I give you my thanks for answering my abrupt question, but it was important for me to hear your answer."

Leaning against the bar, Sir Rovach gives his full attention to Kaelyn "In regards to your first comment, that answer is older than The Sundering itself." Sir Rovach smiles and gives a short laugh. "And it still strikes me a humorous whenever I here that answer!" Shaking his head, Sir Rovach continues, becoming ever so serious again. "Yet it also shows quickness of mind & wit. That you take an opening when presented. Those are qualities needed."

"In regards to your description, I believe that is as honest description as ever given about one's self. I'm not sure most would answer the way you did, wanting to protray themselves as perfect to others. I appreciate your honesty."

Sir Rovach glances back at the Lady Erizhetiana, to see if she was still observing their conversation at the bar. He then turns back to Kaelyn, giving his explaination for himself.
"Myself and the Lady" Sir Rovach gestures his hand in the direction of Lady Erizhetiana "will be performing a service for the local Constable, investigating the disappearance of a local family. We are looking for partners in this duty, with equal shares of the rewards. Specifically, we could use a guide and/or scout on our journey in addition to a couple more swords for protection. I would like to speak with Torvin about the family, but are you interested in speaking with the Lady about this further?

“Oh nothing to apologize for, my good man,” the innkeeper responds. As for your other requests, he nods and replies, “Certainly. I’ll get some bread and cheese for you in just a moment.” He will slip back into the kitchen area after collecting the offered coins. Upon his return he will start working on your drink and you can figure a serving wench will be bringing out the food.

Sir Rovach -
Finally making his way to the bar & easing his way to a place next to the man in black, Sir Rovach waves for Torvin yet addresses the black dressed man.
The innkeeper will be close by after returning from the kitchen, so you can address him whenever a moment arises.

Stephanie -
“We country folk have to look out for each other,” Stepahnie answers seriously. “We can count on outsiders to solve our problems.”
“Oh most certainly,” Mrs. Malander says and a nod from Mr. Malander accompanies it.
After a bit of searching, Stephanie spots what she thinks is the inn, but she cannot be absolutely sure. It certainly looks like an inn. What was it called again? Grinning Nymph?
Though the name may escape her, she knows that is the inn. Having been to Dormare with her family during the festival season as she was growing up, she remembers the times that they had a meal there even if they couldn’t afford a room every year.
“Sahna!” Steph calls out as she gets closer, hopping to attract the womans attention. If she stops, Stephanie will explain that she heard she was looking for help in the matter of some missing farmers.
The woman jumps when her name is called and she looks around suspiciously. Seeing you heading her way it takes a moment but then her eyes display recognition. She nods her head many times as you explain to her what you had heard was going on. When you are done she looks at you with hope.

“Oh Stephanie,” Sahna says, “if only I had seen you before going to the constable. There is an armored man that is going to go check out the Makkee farm. He seems very nice, but he’s a foreigner,” she says pointedly. “I overheard him saying he was going to the inn to find more people to help him. I think you should go and take over. Who knows how long it will take for him to find his way. That poor family can’t wait any more.”

“It's all right,” Stephanie answers. “I'm sure the constable is a good man.”

Steph listens with growing concern on her face as Sahna's tale unfolds. It seems that the local authorities wont be looking into this matter. How typical. But she is a bit surprised to learn of the involvment of some armored foreigner. Steph is about to say more, but realizes that her companion is a foreigner as well, and she seems all right, so no point in rushing to judgement about this mysterious armored man. But still there is no reason to trust him either.

“We were heading to the inn for supper anyway,” Stephanie adds. “I'll see if I can find out what is going on.”

After promising Sahna to get to the bottom of this, Steph will make her way to the Inn and go inside. It seems there was some kind of commotion going on, but that matter had been setteled. Finding an open table, Steph will sit and order dinner when she can get the attention of one of the serving girls.

Looking around Sahna's armored man seems easy enough to spot. He has the look of wealth about him which only makes Steph wonder why his type would be so interested in helping out some farmers. Perhaps he could be in league with slavers and he's just here searching for more victims.

The armored man is talking to another man, dressed in black. The black-dressed man had a sinister appearance to him as well. The way he kept looking about as if the law was about to close in on him.

Apparently there was a third member involved in this little criminal conspiracy. Both men seemed to be looking back at a scantily clad woman seated at a nearby table. She was heavily made up and wore more jewelry than Steph had ever seen before. Obviously, a woman of loose morals who was for hire!

“If those are the ones Sahna spoke of,” Steph whispers to her companion, “I'm not sure I'd trust them very much based on the way they look.”

--

Couple of questions: How far away is it to travel to the Makkee farm? A short ride or something that will take hours to reach?

Out of Character Note: Nothing personal to eveyrone, Steph just tends to leap the wrong first impressions. :D

Sir Rovach

While Sir Rovach awaits for an answer from Kaelyn if he would like to speak further with the Lady Erizhetiana, he watches & waits for a moment to speak with Torvin about the matter with the Makkee's.

"Well, he is a merchant of sorts." Sir Rovach thinks to himself "And he needs to make a living. He's very busy tonight, but maybe I can attact his attention for a few moments."

Sir Rovach puts five gold on the bar counter and awaits Torvin to notice. Once Torvin makes his way over to where he is, Sir Rovach begins his conversation.

Speaking in a low voice, Sir Rovach says "A moment of your time Sir. Later, I would like to speak about lodgings for the night, but now I have some pressing business. I have recently given my oath to the constable to look into a local matter concerning a family from these parts." Sir Rovach slides the posting forward to Torvin and gives him time to read it.

Once Sir Rovach notices Torvin has completed reading the posting, he continues "I was wondering what you might know about the family and the area they live. Also, me and my partner are looking for a couple more swords to join us on this mission. If you could keep an eye & ear out for a few honest, good warriors it would be much appreciated. But unfortunetly, time is urgent; for the safety of Makee's, we would like to leave as soon as possible."

"Could you help us on this matter Master Torvin?"

Aesa:
“I think that's Sahna,” the swordswoman says to Aesa while moving forward and weaving through the crowd.
Aesa doesn't say anything but merely follows Stephanie. The woman in question seems jumpy but recognizes her fellow warrior woman easily enough. Something of a local hero, she thinks to herself as she listens to Sahna tell of the constable giving the task to a foreign noble warrior.

After parting company, the two of them enter the inn. The smells of all the different types of food hit Aesa and she realizes just how hungry she has become. It takes a moment but the two of them find a table near the edge of the large dining area. It seems even more seating is available upstairs. While she looks around at the inn some more, Stephanie seems to have found the armored foreigner.
“If those are the ones Sahna spoke of,” Steph whispers to her companion, “I'm not sure I'd trust them very much based on the way they look.”
Aesa sees the trio once Stephanie points them out. Indeed they are drastically different than the majority of the common folk, merchants and off duty militia that are gathered here. She's not sure about the man in black, but the other man doesn't seem too villanous. The woman is definitely drawing attention to herself even though seated a distance away from the main area.

"I've found looks to not be everything," she says to Stephanie, smiling at the serving girl who brings her a mug of steaming hot spiced tea. "They have the look of people from the Shining Coast though," she says after taking a sip and finding it just a tad too hot. "We have a name for that type of woman where I come from," she adds, "maalatanainen."
That which must be done will be done.

Erizhetiana of Lotan -

Rovach and the 'man in black' have a discussion and at one point, they both look back at her. Erizhi runs her fingers through her hair, as if she didn't notice and then, 'catching them', smiles and waves slightly. She looks away trying to hold back a mirthful grin.

A few moments later, Erizhi sees two armed and armored women enter the Inn. She does a double-take upon seeing them. What a strange country! First there are some kind of miniature creatures that look almost human and now there are giants. Erizhi has the words to a spell close to her lips, should that prove necessary. She tries not to stare, but keeps an eye on the 'amazons', wondering just what they might do!

Stephanie -
Couple of questions: How far away is it to travel to the Makkee farm? A short ride or something that will take hours to reach?
The Makkee farm is off the west road and is one of the last farms located in the 20 mile hex grid on the map. It is nestled in a tiny valley while the road itself is actually up on a rise. The first buildings of the farm are about 100 yards from the road to the north.

If you rode hard you could probably make the trek in just over 4 hours, but it’s more realistic for about 8-10 hours. (Yes, I know that’s only slightly better than human walking speed, but figure breaks for rest, food for you and your horse, etc. Also remember that the village doesn‘t take up the entire 20 mile hex it‘s in so it‘s almost 30 miles to the Makkee farm.)

Plus the road is little more in some spots then where footsteps and wagon wheels have caused vegetation to stop growing. Therefore I doubt anyone will be leaving without getting some sleep first since everyone spent most of, if not all, day traveling to Dormare already.

Sir Rovach -
Sir Rovach puts five gold on the bar counter and awaits Torvin to notice.

“Certainly,” the innkeeper replies. He takes the parchment and reads it over, a couple of different emotions appear and vanish on his face.

“Well, the Makkee’s mostly raise cattle,” the innkeeper explains. “They are one of two major beef sellers to the village and my inn. They do some traditional crop growing and raise a few other types of livestock, but it’s minor and mostly just for their own survival and to feed their animals.”

“The area they live in lies just north of the west road at the edge of where the militia could reach in a day’s march,” he continues. “Those outlying farms have the worst protection as you can imagine and so many of the farmers help each other. Beyond their farm is still wild, unsettled country and so wolves and the occasional bandit can be a nuisance.”

“The best way to find good swords would be to hang this on the Heroes’ Board,” he offers. “There are most likely some local warriors or woodsmen who would act as a guide or extra muscle. Some may even be in the inn at this moment. You could always just announce your intentions as this is most likely the busiest we’ll be tonight. If you have no success before you choose to retire for the evening I can certainly direct anyone who I believe to be good to your room or to meet down here when you wish to depart.”

Erizhetiana -
A few moments later, Erizhi sees two armed and armored women enter the Inn. She does a double-take upon seeing them. What a strange country! First there are some kind of miniature creatures that look almost human and now there are giants. Erizhi has the words to spell close to her lips, should that prove necessary. She tries not to stare, but keeps an eye on the 'amazons', wondering just what they might do!
The two amazons apparently have hungers like most other people and they find a table and place an order when a serving wench finally makes it over to them. The tallest of the pair seems to have taken an interest in your fellow countryman and the man in black at the bar. After more scanning of the room, her eyes spot you as well. Then she begins to talk to the other amazon who is by this point nursing a cup of some liquid that seems too hot to easily drink right then.

Kaelyn
Sir Rovach extends his hand forward, gripping Kaelyn's hand with his own, replying "I am Sir Rovach, Paladin of Anu. It is my honor to meet your acquaintance. And I give you my thanks for answering my abrupt question, but it was important for me to hear your answer."
“A pleasure,” he says politely gripping the man's hand firmly, “It is of no matter. Some may look at you as a fool for asking such a question, while others might respect you more for it,” he says evenly. “You would be hard pressed to find me asking you the same,” he says with a chuckle. A paladin, Kaelyn thinks to himself. That would explain the armor and mannerisms, he thinks to himself. Surely they would not send one of his cloth to deal with his transgressions, but then the guild was always crafty and had their hands in most dealings.
“Aye, My father was always very fond of a quick mind. It shows resourcefulness and eagerness, or so he said.” He said evenly. Sadly he did not feel the same for a quick hand, he thought to himself with a small smirk. “Are you of similar qualities, Sir Rovach?” Looking at the features of the Paladin, he can tell he is of not this land, “What brings you to our lands?” he asks curiously.
"In regards to your description, I believe that is as honest description as ever given about one's self. I'm not sure most would answer the way you did, wanting to protray themselves as perfect to others. I appreciate your honesty."
“Thank you.” He said appreciatively, “Though, most do not realize words are like the wind, fleeting and in most causes empty. It is our actions that define us, not our words.” He counters.
Kaelyn’s blue eyes follow Sir Rovach’s gaze to the bejewelled woman whom he noticed earlier. He noticed he did not say his lady or any words of fondness, which struck him as odd, as they appeared to look as though they were of the same origin. A chance meeting perhaps, he asked himself. The woman waves slightly and stiffles a giggle, causing him to wonder if this woman is more trouble than her worth.

Upon hearing the paladin’s words, “Disappearance?” he asks astonished, "What would people want with innocent farmers?” he asked softly out loud, though he silently thought it would be good not to be in the area for too long, and to leave with foreigners may throw his adversaries off his trail for a time. “Sadly, I don’t know these lands very well, but I have always been good with a blade.” Looking up into the Paladin’s eyes, “Aye, I would be interested,” he said with a smile. Looking back at the woman and give her a slight smile and inclining his head.

Butternut:
“The young queen went by Aerowyn during that time,” he replies. “She spent a lot of time with Thyra as they grew up here, and upon the ranger’s return from adventuring a few years back, she named her as Ranger-General of Maletar’s army.”

The name Aerowyn doesn’t stand out as anyone you recognize, but if she was being hidden, that makes sense. Thyra on the other hand is a ranger of some renown and had left the kingdom, supposedly sailing somewhere beyond the Shining Sea on adventure, for several long years to hear it told.
"Thyra, huh? Never met her, myself, but certainly heard tales of her exploits. The name Aerowyn doesn't ring a bell." Butternut shrugs.

Emotions war across Butternut's face as she hears the terrible toll that this situation took on this man. Her pain is so deep, she hears more the passion in his words than the words themselves. The other people in the room mean nothing to her; being cut down would only serve to end her exquisite agony. Tears roll down her face at the man whom she has so wronged. "I'm so sorry..." At least she knows she is not alone in this tragedy that has haunted her for so many years.
Butternut only half hears the innkeeper's words. She cares little about her own fate, and is saddened by the thought that she might not be able to find the only other remaining member of her clan. Maybe in time she can seek out her clanmate, but perhaps now is not the time.

Other people address Master Torvin, concerned by the situation, but Butternut ignores it all, consumed as she is by her own drama. She merely remains sitting atop the bar, her head in her hands and tears rolling down her face, as she tries to process all of the new knowledge and feelings.

She is not alone.

Eventually, Butternut shakes herself from her reverie. She is not sure how much time has passed, but it seems not to have been more than a few minutes or so. The next time the innkeeper passes her way, she addresses him respectfully. "I want to appologize for my behavior earlier, Master Torvin. Your news came as quite a shock to me, and I handled it badly. You have always been kind to me and I value your friendship. I hope you can find a way to forgive me for treating you so poorly."

"If I may trouble you just this little bit more, perhaps some water and some of your famous stew would serve to bolster my spirits."

Stephanie:

Stephanie and Aesa settle down at the inn to dine and inspect the foreigners Sahna mentioned earlier...
Aesa wrote:"I've found looks to not be everything," she says to Stephanie, smiling at the serving girl who brings her a mug of steaming hot spiced tea. "They have the look of people from the Shining Coast though," she says after taking a sip and finding it just a tad too hot. "We have a name for that type of woman where I come from," she adds, "maalatanainen."
“You may be right,” Steph admits. “My first impressions of strangers tend to be wrong more often than not. The Shining Coast you say? Would that be common dress from those lands?”

While Steph had heard of the Shining Coast, she had very little idea where or even how far away it was. Such knowledge was not needed where she grew up.

Aesa says what women like the scantily clad one on the other side of the room is called in her lands and Steph wont even attempt to prounouce that! “I have no idea what that means,” she says with a chuckle. “Nor do I think I could move my lips in that way to even try and say it!”
Erizhi wrote:A few moments later, Erizhi sees two armed and armored women enter the Inn. She does a double-take upon seeing them. What a strange country! As Steph watches the strangers interactions, she notices the woman smiling invitingly and waving to the two men. Perhaps the men are haggling over a price? When the woman's eyes catch Stephanie, she'll quickly look away and not look back that way for a time.

After the meal, Steph will see if there are rooms to be had for the night.

“The farm is too far away to reach before night fall,” she says to Aeya. “Leaving at dawn's light seems our best option.”

Erizhetiana of Lotan -

Erizhi continues to pick at her various dishes that she ordered, trying this and that as the mood strikes her.

The paladin of Anu seemed to make progress with this man of mystery. Their conversaton is too far from her seat to pick up any words, but judging by their continued talk, shaking of hands and relaxed demeanor, Erizhi is certain they have added a third to their 'expedition'. She still was not sure what great import might be associated with this menial task, but it seemed as though it would be easy and it gained her allies. Now those were going to prove very important.

Eventually, the man whom she would soon learn was named Kaelyn looked her way again and gave her a sort of affirmation. She nodded back slightly, in between bites of her food, this time without a smile. Business, after all, was business.

Her eyes continued to slip back to the pair of Amazons who were now seated and ordering food and drink. "Perhaps a whole suckling pig for these two," she thinks to herself. The dark-haired one had taken some interest in the conversation at the bar between Rovach and Kaelyn, so Erizhi kept her own observation on the raven-haired giantess. They two were having their discussion, clearly to some degree about the men, based on what Erizhi followed. She was very good at the subject of observation and reading people. At one point the dark haired amazon looked over at Erizhi directly and their eyes met. Eri cocked her head to the side ever so slightly, in a questioning manner, but the other woman just quickly averted her eyes. "Caught in something," Erizhetiana mused. Maybe they knew something about this pending task and followed Rovach here. The noble of Iltani felt that her Magick Missiles would be as effective against these two as any other foe, should that prove necessary.

But thinking about it, maybe they were following the other man? He clearly was nervous about something. He had been since the first time he was here. Someone was after him, whether authorities or some other sinsiter enemy. The thought crossed her mind that she might be allying with a criminal here. She smiled again to herself as she took another bite of the stew. If he was good at what he did, that was all that mattered. Revenge held no concern of morality in the end.

Sir Rovach
“What brings you to our lands?” he asks curiously.
Sir Rovach is happy how the conversation has been going with the one called Kaelyn. Here was a potential ally that he could travel with, in addition to someone who appeared to be able to hold his own if trouble was to come upon them. True, he wasn't a knight or one of the devoted like himself or the Lady Erizhetiana. But he appeared that he could be true to the cause. Obviously, it seemed that he was a little guarded at first when approached. But, as he told Lady Erizhetiana earlier, Sir Rovach had looked into his heart and found no evil there. And that is a good platform to build upon with a ally and comrade in arms.

"I have left my order." replies Sir Rovach to Kaelyn's question "Nay, not under unfortunate circumstances but in my own personal quest. To find my fate in a purpose I have set for myself. One which you would probally find naive & idealistic." Sir Rovach smiles "But, like I told Lady Erizhetiana, alot of people find my kind that way." Sir Rovach continues his explaination "Of course, this has led me here to this village. But what Anu ultimately has in store for me, he has yet to reveal."
“Disappearance?” he asks astonished, "What would people want with innocent farmers?”
"A good question, sir Kaelyn. Obviously, not much loot to be had from such honest, simple folk. Unless these are bandits that are truely desperate. Or they are looking for other resources besides coin...."
Sir Rovach considers Torvin's advice and, after a moment, replies "We are kind of selective of the right type of individuals to partner with on this quest. As for me, the content of their character is as important as their skill in arms." Sir Rovach pauses a moment, then looks Torvin straight in the eye "You Sir, there is obviously a great wisdom in you. Either you were born with it or it is a skill you developed dealing with the varied customers to your inn. Humbleness is a virtue but so is honesty; I sense an ability in you to read people. Nothing magical in nature, but just as powerful. I would like to leave it in your judgement if I may; if you come across any who you think would be appropriate to this quest, please have them see myself or the Lady as soon as possible. I believe we would like to leave in the morning if we could."

Sir Rovach finishes his conversation with Torvin "My thanks, good Sir. And if the Makkee's are friends of yours then I swear to you we will discover their fate and give them aid if possible. And if any has done them harm, deliver justice to them as well. Now, I know your busy, with others to see to. When things slow down tonight maybe we can settle the issue of a room for the night?"

Sir Rovach turns to Kaelyn "Would you like to meet the Lady Erizhetiana, sir Kaelyn? Perhaps see what preperations we need to make and plan our strategy for tomorrow?"
"You are

"I've yet to be that far west," Aesa replies. "There were a few that had business of some sort in our home capital that I happened to look upon by chance," she explains further. "They were definitely not dressed such as she for they would have surely frozen in place. They all had the dark, long hair and skin tones of these here however so it is my belief they are from the same region. The ones I saw up north were far from friendly, if not a bit rude, but no way of knowing if that is a common trait."
“I have no idea what that means,” she says with a chuckle. “Nor do I think I could move my lips in that way to even try and say it!”
"No, I don't imagine you do," she says with a smile but offers nothing further on it.
“The farm is too far away to reach before night fall,” she says to Aeya. “Leaving at dawn's light seems our best option.”
"Probably for the best," Aesa says. "Although if lives are at stake they may disagree. Still we can not aid them if we are exhausted ourselves."

As Stephanie stands up, Aesa adds, "What about them?" She inclines her head towards the trio Stephanie had been watching. "Do we just encounter them along the way or try to beat them to the farm?"
That which must be done will be done.

“I understand, believe me,” the innkeeper says a bit more kindly then he had been. “It’s because of our strong friendship that forgiveness is easy.”
"If I may trouble you just this little bit more, perhaps some water and some of your famous stew would serve to bolster my spirits."
“Certainly,” he replies. “A moment into the kitchen and then I’ll get your water.” With that, he disappears into the kitchen once more. A few moments later and he fills up a mug and brings it to you.
{OOC: Sorry for my absense. Took a vacation with my wife, and have been very busy catching up since we returned.}
No problem. Hopefully you both had a wonderful time. Glad to have you back once more.

Sir Rovach -
Sir Rovach considers Torvin's advice and, after a moment, replies "We are kind of selective of the right type of individuals to partner with on this quest.
“Thank you kindly for the words,” the innkeeper says. “You pick it up running an inn as you deal with all sorts of people. Helps to get to know everyone and get them what they want faster. Of course the life of an adventurer gives you some of that skill too if you spend any time at it. I made some foolish choices of companions in my early years let me tell you!” he says with a chuckle.

“I will keep a look out then and direct anyone your way,” he reassures. “As I said there is a good chance that several skilled individuals from the local area will be here during the festival, so you should be able to find who you might need.”
“Well we can handle that right now,” the innkeeper offers. “With what you’ve paid me you can take the last private room I have available for tonight. You’ve more than covered it and whatever food you may desire from our fare.”

The innkeeper will excuse himself for a moment while you think it over as there is yet another customer needing his attentions…

Stephanie -
After the meal, Steph will see if there are rooms to be had for the night.
After catching the attention of the serving wench she listens to your request. “You best be talking to the innkeeper ‘bout rooms hun,” she says, pointing to the man behind the bar. “He be right there,” she says with a big smile despite looking disheveled and tired otherwise.

This will mean you have to get close to the foreigners but there is no real way around it if you wish to get a room. As you get to the bar you will be able to flag the innkeeper down after he comes out of a door from behind the bar and conducts more business and conversation. The smells coming from that door lead you to believe it’s the kitchen area. A few moments' wait and he comes over.

“Rooms you say,” you see him ponder something, possibly counting in his head. “A bit late for them, but I have a couple semi-private rooms available and some space in the common room. Whichever you prefer.”

As he waits for your reply, you see him finally take notice of you. Most likely being as busy as he has been he hasn’t had time to notice people. You see something dawning on his face resembling recognition. “I know you, I think. By reputation if not yet personally,” he says. “You’re pretty popular among the farmers and good folk of the local villages for all that you‘ve done for them. Stephanie I believe, right?”

A frank speaker, he thought to himself as he listened to the Paladin’s reasons for coming here. “I think that would depend on what your quest entails. If you were to right every wrong you encountered then I tend to agree. Though, who am I to question another’s religion or beliefs.” He said with a half smile. ‘Lady Erizhetiana is it.’ He thought to himself tripping over the pronunciation of the name. “A noblewoman, that would explain all the finery.”
"A good question, sir Kaelyn. Obviously, not much loot to be had from such honest, simple folk. Unless these are bandits that are truely desperate. Or they are looking for other resources besides coin...."
Kaelyn nods in agreement, then starts to think, ‘Land, women, livestock. They are just a few of what is worth while to loot, and well worth the risk, in some cases.’

Sir Rovach turns to Kaelyn "Would you like to meet the Lady Erizhetiana, sir Kaelyn? Perhaps see what preperations we need to make and plan our strategy for tomorrow?"

“Aye, It would be an honor, though please don’t call me sir. It makes me look for my father.” He says with a short laugh his blue eyes alight with mirth. Taking his drink in his right hand he gets up from the counter and begins walking towards the bejewelled woman.

Aesa wrote:"I've yet to be that far west," Aesa replies.
Stephanie nods her head in understanding, but has to wonder just how far away these lands she speaks of are.
Aesa wrote:"Probably for the best," Aesa says. "Although if lives are at stake they may disagree. Still we can not aid them if we are exhausted ourselves."
“Aye,” Stephanie agrees. “If they have been missing for this long, there may no longer be anyone left to find. I certainly hope that is not the case.”
Aesa wrote:As Stephanie stands up, Aesa adds, "What about them?" She inclines her head towards the trio Stephanie had been watching. "Do we just encounter them along the way or try to beat them to the farm?"
“I'm really not sure,” Stephanie admits. “I'm not used to working in groups. Most of the things I did back home I could do alone. I'd say ignore them for now myself.”

After paying for the room, Steph will grab her gear and inform Aesa that it appears that they will have to share a room for the night as that is all that is left apart from the common room.

Erizhetiana of Lotan -

The inn is now full and lively and noisy. Erizhetiana is very glad that she had arranged for a private room as soon as she arrived in town, as it appeared that they would all be full and more.

Her eyes carefully slide about the room, taking in one conversation after the other. She sees more than she appears to, her apparent aloofness masking her observational skills. She sees the two merchants exchanging some mysterious pouch in the shadows, thinking that no one saw their transfer. She witnesses the two teens holding hands under the table, as they clumsily try to avoid the gaze of the girl's father. She observes the tiny humanoid at the bar, one moment threatening the innkeeper with violence and the next sobbing. She keeps careful tabs on the two amazons who chat about her new acquaintances and she sees those two finally reach an end to their exchange, as Rovach motions over in her direction.

The man in black takes his mug in his hand and heads in her direction, Rovach a few steps behind. She takes a bite of the poultry dish again this time, as she waits for them to wind their way through the crowd.

“I understand, believe me,” the innkeeper says a bit more kindly then he had been. “It’s because of our strong friendship that forgiveness is easy.”
"I pray that never changes," Butternut replies, the hint of a smile creasing her face for the first time in a very long time.
“Certainly,” he replies. “A moment into the kitchen and then I’ll get your water.” With that, he disappears into the kitchen once more. A few moments later and he fills up a mug and brings it to you.
"Thank you, Master Torvin," Butternut accepts the trencher of stew and mug of water from the innkeeper, giving him a gold piece for his trouble. Swiping most of the tears from her face with the back of her sleeve, she begins to eat the tasty, hearty meal. As she does so, she looks around the room. Nearby, the man in heavy armor whom she recognizes as having entered immediately behind herself is talking with another man wearing black leather armor. The former appears to be some kind of knight, while she wouldn't be surprised to learn that the other was a thief based on his dress and mannerisms. Better keep her eye on that one. The rest of the people near the bar appear to be locals, some of whom look vaguely familiar.

A little farther away she spots two larger-than-average women. Letting her gaze pause on them, she soon recognizes them as the women she saw on the tournament field earlier. They appear to be chatting while also watching the two strange men at the bar and another woman farther away. The latter woman is very attractive and is dressed in a thoroughly impractical manner. She doesn't appear to be from this region at all; Butternut doesn't recall ever seeing anyone dressed in a similar manner or with similar coloring. A foreigner perhaps?

Not surprisingly, Rollester is still prowling about the room. Probably looking for some poor woman he thinks he can paw at without getting his hand cut off. Now that would be entertaining! A variety of other people dot the room, again mostly looking like locals or people from nearby villages.

As she continues to watch, the pair of amazons rise, pause to talk to one of the serving women and then approach the bar and start up a conversation with Master Torvin. Moments later, the two men begin to cross the room toward the strangely-attired woman. As her eyes continue to sweep the room, they land on a notice stuck to what is amusingly called the Heroes' Board. Curious, Butternut rises to her feet and makes her way across the bar toward the Board, stepping over and around the occasional drink. Perhaps having something else to focus on will help her process the startling information she has absorbed tonight.

Sir Rovach
Kaelyn nods in agreement, then starts to think, ‘Land, women, livestock. They are just a few of what is worth while to loot, and well worth the risk, in some cases.’
"I agree." Sir Rovach responds to Kaelyn's assessment. "Slaves would be a possibility." In a lower voice, Sir Rovach says "We're also told in my Order that those dark ones who follow Nergal prefer their victims.....fresh. I pray this isn't the situation"
“Aye, It would be an honor, though please don’t call me sir. It makes me look for my father.” He says with a short laugh his blue eyes alight with mirth. Taking his drink in his right hand he gets up from the counter and begins walking towards the bejewelled woman.
Sir Rovach smiles at this comment. By the wind, Rovach was starting to like this man! He seemed like a down-to-earth soul, yet with a quick wit and the ability to think. Sir Rovach was looking forward to entering combat side by side with Kaelyn; that would be the test of his courage & skill at arms. The Lady made a good suggestion to approach him; truely Ishtar, and possibly Anu as well, guided her in that choice.

They finish weaving their way through the crowds and finally approach the table where Lady Erizhetiana seated. "Lady Erizhetiana, may I introduce to you si....mister Kaelyn, swordsman & traveler. He has heard the situation and would like to join our investigation into the disappearance of the Makkee's." The whole "sir" thing threw Sir Rovach off. What would be proper etiquette to introduce him to the Lady? To show disrespect at our initial meeting would be improper manners. Hopefully, the new introduction would do for now.

"Since you are our guest, it would only be proper to offer you the chair." Sir Rovach motions to the only empty chair at the table. "I will find another so that I may join you two." Sir Rovach then goes to find a wench who may bring him another chair. If that is unsuccessful, he will go back to the bar to ask Torvin if he may have one brought out to them.

“Oh, thank you,” Stepanie says. “Here's a gold for your trouble.”
“Um, ah..” the girl stammers at such an exuberant amount of a tip for such simple information. “Thank you most kindly,” she finally manages.
“Semi-private?” Stephnanie repeats. “A shared room then? I guess that would be alright for one night. How much, Innkeeper?”
“Yes, two beds, two foot lockers, enough room for four people if you’re real cozy or don’t mind a couple on the floor,” the innkeeper explains. “Eight silvers a night. I have one that overlooks the inner courtyard and all the trees, very nice view.”
“Pardon?” Steph says in surprise, looking up from counting out coins for the room. “Yes, I am Stephanie and I just try to help folks out in need. Honest, hard working folks sometimes need help too.”
“Well forgive my boldness,” the innkeeper says as you turn to go. “That man there,” he says pointing to the armored foreigner, “is looking for a good sword or two more, preferably someone who knows the area. No one has seen any of the Makkee family today and the constable put out a posting for anyone who might wish to help. That man, who goes by Sir Rovach, asked me to keep an eye out for anyone who was pure of heart to join him and I believe that would be you, my girl.”

A moment later he says, “Ah, here he comes now actually.”

Sir Rovach -
"Since you are our guest, it would only be proper to offer you the chair." Sir Rovach motions to the only empty chair at the table. "I will find another so that I may join you two." Sir Rovach then goes to find a wench who may bring him another chair. If that is unsuccessful, he will go back to the bar to ask Torvin if he may have one brought out to them.
You look around for a couple moments and the few serving wenches you see are being assaulted on all sides by food and drink orders. They seem to be carrying out their duties well and despite their haggard looks they still offer a smile to every customer. Still, you doubt you would get a chair anytime soon. So instead you decide to see if you can trouble the innkeeper for one.

As you get closer, you see the innkeeper talking to an extremely tall warrior woman and, as he spots you, you hear him tell her, “Ah, here he comes now actually.”

Butternut -
As her eyes continue to sweep the room, they land on a notice stuck to what is amusingly called the Heroes' Board. Curious, Butternut rises to her feet and makes her way across the bar toward the Board, stepping over and around the occasional drink. Actually there is no posting on the Heroes’ Board at the moment. However, you did notice that the armored man had a piece of parchment that he has been showing around and at one point discussed with the innkeeper over. You were dealing with your warring emotions at the time and so didn’t catch the meat of the conversations. However were you to speculate, it is quite possible that the armored man is in possession of one such posting normally found on that board.

Butternut:

Butternut shakes her head in confusion. She had seen a parchment of the sort that held job postings passed around - primarily by the man in heavy armor - but it doesn't appear to have been posted on the Board. Apparently he doesn't understand how things are done here! Obviously not a local, she thinks sardonically.

Looking back down the bar, she notes one of the tall women talking with Master Torvin, and the man in heavy armor joining them. Clearly something is going on, but that's too much of a crowd for Butternut's taste. Instead, she scans the room for the other amazon. Upon spotting the blonde amazon, Butternut hops down off the bar and strolls over to her.

"Excuse me," she says, looking up at the much taller woman. "Didn't I see you and your friend on the tournament grounds earlier? Are you competing?"

Aesa just nods. As long as the family get the help they need, she thinks, and we don't lose precious time arguing with these others over who has the right to help them. She gets up and follows Stephanie at a short distance. She sees her talking to the innkeeper and searching her coins. Aesa figures they will just square up later. As Stephanie is about to leave she gets stopped by the innkeeper, but Aesa can't make out what is being said. Then she sees him point to the armored man as he approaches the bar. Looks like later will be now, she thinks.

Before she can get any closer to the bar, someone approaches her. Aesa looks down to meet the eyes of this woman.
"Excuse me," she says, looking up at the much taller woman. "Didn't I see you and your friend on the tournament grounds earlier? Are you competing?"
"Yes, that you most likely did," Aesa responds easily. "Both of us are still in the competition, but things have happened this evening that will most likely remove us both from it by the morrow."

Sir Rovach

Walking up to the bar, Sir Rovach sees Torvin engaged in conversation with a tall warrior woman. Strange, they both looked over at him and then continued their talk. Sir Rovach decides that he'll walk up to the bar and wait for Torvin to finish his talk & then ask for another chair for their meeting with Kaelyn.
“Ah, here he comes now actually.”
Sir Rovach hears Torvin say this to the warrior and observes both look in his direction again. Could this be someone looking for me? Perhaps Torvin has found another to join us on our investigation? Sir Rovach walks up to both of them, nods his head in greeting and says to the warrior woman "Good evening, my Lady." Turning his head, he says to Torvin with a smile "I guess it's my turn to ask you, my friend: is there anything I may assist you with?"

“Greetings, Lady Erizhetiana,” he said with a slight bow as he stumbled over her name a little. “You are truly a sight to behold. 'Tis a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” he said evenly as he smiled slighty. “And mage,” he said looking at Sir Rovach for a moment. “Troubling news, this disappearance it is. Even further still if ,as Sir Rovach says, the followers of Nergal may be involved.”

“Really it is of no matter,” he said though the Paladin paid him no heed and walked off looking for a chair. Looking at the chair then to the lady, “May I?” he rheteorically asked as he reached for the chair and spun it around so the back of the chair faced Erizhetiana and his back faced a wall. “To tell the truth, I was a bit surprised that Sir Rovach and you were looking into this matter. Have you been travelling with him long?" He asked curiously as he took a drink of his juice. Within moments his cheese and bread arrived. “Thank you,” as he passed a few coppers to the bar wench for her troubles. Taking up a piece of bread and a bit of cheese he placed them together took a bite. After swallowing, “Where do you hail from?” he asked curiously, noting her features and finery. “I have only seen women of court wear such finery. And one as beautiful as you scarcely needs more to attract attention, here.”

What was his name again? The innkeeper just said it, but it was a foreign name and not one easy for Steph to pronounce. “You're Sir Rowback?”

“Hello,” Stephanie simply says in response. This has to be the first time that anyone has called her a lady. Especially anyone that knew her!

Since fate seems to have forced us together, Steph will just blurt out, “I am Swordswoman Stephanie. I will be looking into the disappeance of the Makkee family at first light, if you and your commrades wish to come along. We should reach the farm after noon and hopefully uncover what became of the misisng family.”
Sir Rovach is startled by the forwardness of this swordswoman in front of him. This was the kind of greeting he was used to! Straight & to the point, with no time to waste. This is especially true if there were lives at stake.

"You do me honor with your forwardness, my Lady." Sir Rovach responds with a bow. "I am Sir Rovach, Knight and Paladin of Anu. Indeed, myself and my new compainions will be embarking ourselves to look into the disappearance of the Makkees too. I learned of their disappearance from the constable & a family friend of the Makkees. I have sworn an oath to them to discover the Makkees fate & give what aid I may. To have the fortune to meet another willing to help must truly be the work of the gods."

Motioning to Lady Erizhetiana & Kaelyn, "I may not speak for the others; their will is their own and not mine to command. But I would indeed consider it an honor to draw swords with you as we investigate the fate of the Makkees." Sir Rovach then becomes serious "And woe to any who has done them any harm."

"Before battle, we are taught that it is beneficial to know the strengths & weaknesses of those fighting along side you. Would you care to meet my other two companions, the Lady Erizhetiana and Mister Kaelyn? As I'm sure you must have questions for me as well?"

Sir Rovach smiles to the Lady Stephanie "And it is pronounced Rovach. But do not worry, Lady Stephanie. Erizhetiana is difficult for me, and the Lady is from my own country. Forsooth, I don't think I could even spell that name without writing it down and copying it when needed!" Sir Rovach laughs.
"You are
what you do
when it counts."
