Elfquest #35

Allurien:

Kylie wrote:"Selecting her court would be a very important set of decisions. However, I don't know if we would be the best choices; after all, there are many elves here who are older, more knowledgeable and more experienced. We may be heroes of a sort, but that doesn't make us good leaders or advisors. Still, I must admit to being intrigued by the idea of being some kind of representative or ambassador that travels to other lands..."
“Best choices or not, Lilia knows you and your friends,” Allurien notes. “She trusts you while many here are complete strangers to her. It’s only natural that she’d want those she trusts close to her. And you were chosen to restore the Mother Tree. That carries a lot of weight with many elves.”

Allurien discovers that she has a houseguest in the form of the half-elf Talen. Allurien doesn’t mind and in fact is glad that Kylie will have a friend close to her. She can sense that her daughter isn’t wholly comfortable being surrounded by elves, so having Talen around will help.

Later that evening, Allurien learns that other Clan Masters has been selected. It seems that one of the others brought forth the notion of Lilia seeking to become the Elfin Queen. That saves Allurien the job of bringing it up and she’ll agree with the reasoning.

“I assume that once we have a full council, we can begin debating the issue of Council Leader and Elfin Ruler,” Allurien states. “After all, it would be in bad taste to fill these positions before we have a full council, even if we have already made our choice.”

With the political issues seeming going in a way Allurien agrees with, she’ll relax that evening at the celebration. She’ll sing and dance and indulge in Feywine. She’s happy to see Kylie partaking in the celebration. Seeing her and Talen together brings a smile to her face.

Orc Hunt

Further south in the great elfin forest, Nariya leads a small group of elves on the hunt for the last remaining orcs. The forest is dense in this region. The group is forced to go single file for the most part. The bushes and shrubs create a natural barrier and force travelers down the designated path.

Nariya senses that beings are approaching. They are too loud to be elves, which tend to move in near silence in the forest. It is decided to ambush them, catching the orcs in a crossfire. The elves move off into the underbrush along with the cooshees.

Most elves are taught from childhood how to move through this dense undergrowth with relative ease. Lia, however, does not have that experience, but thanks to her Ring of Free Action, she can move among the underbrush with equal ease.

The elves try to control the cooshee’s, but it is a difficult task. They are eager to spring forth and go hunt down whatever it is they are sensing.

At last, a group of orcs comes into sight and the trap is sprung! Nariya throws her spear, impaling the lead orc. Shafts fly in from the left and the right piercing many of the orcs and most of them drop.

The cooshee’s are released and the elfin dogs surge forward taking down any remaining orcs. The battle is brutally one sided.

Lia is shocked when an arrow strikes her in the side, and a second flies past her into the forest! Screaming a battle cry, Theras charges towards Lia his sword drawn.

“In the name of the Black Archer, die drow witch!” He screams as he charges from the other side of the path.

Elfin Politics
Lilia wrote:“Me?” Lilia stammers out in surprise. “Why would anyone think I would make a good Council Leader or Elfin Queen?”

But after a moment’s though, the Voluril’s logic becomes clear. Chandra and herself are the only Priests of Corellon currently in the realms. And it seems that Lilia’s journey from what she was to who she is becoming has elevated her in the eyes of many.

“I understand what you are saying,” Lilia finally says. “Yes, that does seem to be the case, does it not? I did not seek out such a high position, but if called upon to serve the Elfin People in such a manner, I would graciously accept.”
“Then the matter is settled,” Voluril states.
Allurien wrote:“I assume that once we have a full council, we can begin debating the issue of Council Leader and Elfin Ruler,” Allurien states. “After all, it would be in bad taste to fill these positions before we have a full council, even if we have already made our choice.”
Lilia wrote:“Unfortunately, I would have to agree,” Lilia sadly states. She’s visibly disappointed that one of her own would be so bent on one thing at the expense of the elfin people. “Very well, if you would nominate me to become the Elfin Queen, then I would happy accept. As you say, Clan Master Stobon, war is the last thing the Sylvan Realms needs. Our population is low and even if the Rainbow Bridge opened up tomorrow, not enough elves could cross over to even support large scale military action against the orcs.”

“Our course is clear. We must rebuild, re-establish past alliances, and prepare to defend what is ours once more. It’s only this way that the Sylvan Realm will survive for generations to come.”
The other Clan Masters are in complete agreement and break of such discussions for the remainder of the day.

As the evening progresses, several elves approach Laucian about joining the ranks of the Golden Griffon. Membership is at the discretion of the Order Master, in this case Laucian. There are guidelines, however. Members must, obviously, be able to ride griffons. Traditionally, these were elite riders: the best of the best. They had risen up in ranks through the regular griffon riders companies, but since there currently is no such thing, it’s not a necessary for membership.

Five elves are interested in joining. They are Valiss, Cain, Luciard, Niles, and Breeze Swiftflow. A couple of lady elves approach Laucian looking for Valena. They are interested I joining the Silver Maidens, but cannot find her. They are Fayriana and Annelwin.

A fine celebration is had by all. Morning peacefully comes, but none of the others away on the orc hunt, or those recuperating at the griffon stable has yet to return. But that’s not a big surprise. The journey on foot to the griffon stable would take most of a day’s travel.

GM Notes:

The Black Archer is Shevarash, the elfin demigod who embodies the hatred the surface elves have towards the drow. His order is more along the lines of a military cult, dedicated to destroying the drow. That was the something that Lia thought she recognized about Theras.

I suppose at some point I should get a cast of characters list together as more and more people are being introduced.

Hit Points:

Lia – 54 of 57

Lia

As Lia and Nariya and few other elves move into the forest. Lia can’t help but notice the hatred and disgustful looks from one known as Theras. Perhaps he has reason to hate my kind but I am not them, there is still yet to see and there is something about him that unnerves her. She thinks to herself though she still will keep an eye on him.
Lia is shocked when an arrow strikes her in the side, and a second flies past her into the forest! Screaming a battle cry, Theras charges towards Lia his sword drawn.

“In the name of the Black Archer, die drow witch!” He screams as he charges from the other side of the path.
The ambush goes well though, Lia takes a sharp in take breath as a searing pain erupts in her side. Looking down at her would a arrow is sticking from her side as a second flies close to her head.

If her lioness are still about she will sick them on Theras.

“It is ironic, saved by a Drow and now you strike out against the ones who saved your life.” Anger and frustration rise up as she draws her sword to protect herself. Lia will defend herself against this enemy knowing full well she will be given no quarter. “I will take no pleasure in killing you. You have come seeking death, sadly it will be your own.”
The last thing you shall hear is the bladesong of my sword.

Laucian looks the five volunteers over, “Thank you for answering the call. As you no doubt know, I am Laucian of clan Grundalf and you are? As I am sure some of you are aware the Golden Griffon was an aerial unit, the best of the best who were trained in fighting on and with their Griffon mounts. The only thing I ask is that all of you familiarize yourselves with your bows and swords, in addition the lance. These are our tools.” He looks at them gauging their reactions. “I realize many of you have never flown by way of griffon, that will change. I will instruct you in the matters of flying them and fighting from their backs whether it by bow, lance or sword. As of now, there is but few rules, rules that will be developed as seen fit. Come to know your griffons as you would any of your kin, know their limitations and strengths.”( realize the griffons are probably all over the place so not sure where they are atm)

“If there are any questions now is the time to ask.” Once the questions are finished he will appoint a time that they are meet, first light and at the griffon stables.

“Greetings Fayrianna and Annelwin, Ah you seek Valena, she is to the south tending to our wounded in one of the griffon stables. I will do my best to point you the way if you wish it.”

Lilia:
Laucian wrote:Laucian listens respectfully as Lilia speaks of what transpired but slowly shakes his head. “And as a Priest of Corellon is it not to look after those who are weaker and wounded? If it is so, then he is sorely lax in his practices of such things. He did not even stop and tend to the wounded nor appoint anyone to do so.” He says looking Lilia in the eye. “Valena and I stayed behind and healed those we could. As it stands now there is some number of elves in Valena’s care in the Griffon Stables.”
Once more disappointment comes to Lilia’s face. “You are correct, Clan Brother. Chandra seems obsessed on one thing at the expense of all others. A Priest of Corellon should be concerned for the welfare of all the elven people. While marching off to war can be part of that, it is not all encompassing. There is much more to being an elf than fighting orcs. As you said, caring for our own should have taken precedence once the battlefield was cleared. Halimath’s Pride indeed.”

Lowering her voice a bit, so that only Laucian can hear her, Lilia adds. “Many of the other Clan Masters are fearful of Chandra gaining too much power here in the Sylvan Realms. They feel that there are really only two candidates for Council Leader and Elfin Ruler. Myself and Chandra. After much thought, I’ve come to agree with that point of view. Thus, many of the Clan Masters are going to choose me to be Elfin Queen, leaving Chandra the role of Council Leader. As is our tradition, the Council Leader deals with the internal polices of the Sylvan Realm, while the Queen deals with the external polices. Thus declaring war on the orcs could only be declared by the Queen.”

“Should this come to pass, then as per our tradition, I would have to renounce myself from Clan Grunalf. Meaning that another will have to take my place on the Clan Council and become the new Clan Master. You might be called upon to fulfil this role should this come to pass. There are only a few others of our clan here and none of them are as qualified as you are.”
Allurien wrote:“I assume that once we have a full council, we can begin debating the issue of Council Leader and Elfin Ruler,” Allurien states. “After all, it would be in bad taste to fill these positions before we have a full council, even if we have already made our choice.”
Lilia is a mildly surprised that Allurien of Clan Feador accepts what has been discussed so easily. Perhaps she had already come to the same conclusions earlier? Clearly, she is a shrewd and intelligent woman.

Lilia is happy to get away from politics for a while and enjoy the evening before retiring for the night.

There is no news come the dawn. The others are still out on their orc hunt or recuperating at the griffon stable near the geyser field. She’ll see Laucian and her fellow riders off on their flight. All Lilia can do for now is wait.
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

“Oh, yeah. We’ll get a chance to talk again. I’m not sure what her future plans are, but given who she is she’ll most likely continue her work for Eilistraee. So I imagine that we’ll be going our separate ways.”
Allurien discovers that she has a houseguest in the form of the half-elf Talen. Allurien doesn’t mind and in fact is glad that Kylie will have a friend close to her. She can sense that her daughter isn’t wholly comfortable being surrounded by elves, so having Talen around will help.
“Ma’am,” Talen says respectfully when Kylie’s mother discovers his presence. “I didn’t really have anywhere else to stay, so I hoped that you wouldn’t mind.”

Thankfully, she doesn’t seem to mind.
Kylie wrote:"Are you kidding?" Kylie replies with a laugh. "This may be the best part of being an elf. If you're going to experience being an elf, this is where it starts. Come on!" Kylie will do her best to coax Talen into celebrating with her. She's not particularly good at either singing or dancing, but she'll do so with gusto as long as he joins in.
“You’re kidding me again, right?” Talen says. Talen resists at first, but allows himself to join in on the festivities. It’s fine at the time, but he’ll probably be mortally embarrassed come the morning.

"I suppose that makes sense. While our hearts are in the right place, we may lack crucial experience. Still, we seem to find a way to make things work out..."
Talen wrote:“Oh, yeah. We’ll get a chance to talk again. I’m not sure what her future plans are, but given who she is she’ll most likely continue her work for Eilistraee. So I imagine that we’ll be going our separate ways.”
"I'm not sure any of us know what our future plans are. Something we have in common. Still, she is your sister, so no doubt you'll visit her periodically." Kylie's look and tone make it clear that Talen had better not argue that last point.

"By the way, my mom thinks Lilia may end up being selected as the new elven queen of the Sylvan Realms. If that happens, she is likely to want us to act as advisors or assistants in some capacity since she knows and trusts us. I've been thinking that maybe acting as some kind of ambassador or messenger would provide a good opportunity to travel a lot and still visit here regularly. What do you think?"
Talen wrote:“You’re kidding me again, right?” Talen says. Talen resists at first, but allows himself to join in on the festivities. It’s fine at the time, but he’ll probably be mortally embarrassed come the morning.
With a little coaxing, Talen seems to relax a bit. Soon the two of them are celebrating right along with the elves, even if in a slightly more restrained manner. By time Kylie makes it to bed that night, she is thoroughly exhausted and sleeps well. In the morning, he makes her way into the common area of the house for some food and spell study. She finds herself wondering whether Talen is already up or whether he's still asleep.

Order of the Golden Griffon:

As the day winds down, Laucian meets with several applicants seeking to join the Order of the Golden Griffon.
Laucian looks the five volunteers over, “Thank you for answering the call. As you no doubt know, I am Laucian of clan Grundalf and you are? As I am sure some of you are aware the Golden Griffon was an aerial unit, the best of the best that were trained in fighting on and with their Griffon mounts. As of now, there are but few rules, rules that will be developed as seen fit. Come to know your griffons as you would any of your kin, know their limitations and strengths.”
All five of the elves are experienced adventurers and were members of the other expeditions. Level wise, they are on par with Laucian.

Valis is a warrior by trade. Both Niles and Cain are rangers in the service of the Great Archer, Solonor Thelandira the elfin patron of hunting, archery, and wilderness survival. Cain also mixes spellcraft with his woodsman skills. Luciard is a fighter/mage while Breeze says that he’s a Spellfilch. (Typically a Spellfilch is one who combines rogue skills with mage spells.)

Since the return of the Mother Tree, more griffons have been returning the stables all over the Realm by some natural instinct. Presently there are enough griffons for all the applicants to ride and the recruits pick their new mounts.

There is riding gear here at the stable and armor and weapons. The magic items here are similar to those found at the first griffon stable. There is elfin chainmail enchanted to activate a Feather Fall spell should a rider be dismounted in midair. There are helmets that when worn greatly extend the riders vision.

In addition to this is the tabard of the Order of the Golden Griffon. This item is worn over your armor and signifies your membership in the order. The garment features a golden griffon on the front on a field of forest green with golden embroidery along the edges. The amount of embroidery indicates ones rank within the Order.

Plans are made to ride off on patrol come the morning.

Fayrianna and Annelwin will thank Laucian for the information and plan to set out on the journey south come the morning.

Orc Hunt:

The ambush is carried out with lethal efficiency and the orcs are slain before they can attack. However one of the elves has attacked Lia, identifying himself as a follower of the Black Archer, a militaristic cult dedicated to exterminating drow. From the other side of the clearing Theras fired arrows, but only one of the shafts hit Lia doing minimal damage.

Lia orders her lions to charge while drawing her swords. Theras drops his bow and casts a spell. Lia prepares for the worst and becomes aware of a great light right behind her, brightly illuminating the area causing her to squint.

The lioness burst through the foliage and swarm Theras as the other elves and cooshees are too stunned to react from this surprise assault. Both lions claw Theras and one bites his arm.

Thyl, Katyr and Nariya rush to break up the scuffle.

“What is the meaning of this?!” Thyl demands. “Call off your lions!”

Lia explains that she was attacked without provocation and Theras only defense is that she’s a drow and deserves to die.

“As the injured party here,” Katyr will say, “what do you wish done with him? Clearly he can no longer travel with us.”

If allowed to leave, Theras will run off into the elfin forest.

After the matter is sorted out, the group will hunt orcs for a while longer before setting up camp for the evening. It is clear that between your efforts and those of the other hunting parties, the number of orcs is rapidly declining.

Next Day:

The following morning comes peacefully enough. Laucian and his fellow riders depart heading south towards the griffon stable. (Fayriana and Annelwin will request a ride, but will make the journey on foot if refused.)

This time Laucian flies over the forest, as it is much faster than following the major trails below. During the flight the other Order members become familiar with their new steeds. Right now it’s mainly just holding on as the griffon does most of the work. It’ll take time and practice to become accustomed to this method of travel.

The flight takes a few hours to reach the griffon stable. Laucian directs his griffon into the narrow opening in the treetops that lead to the stable. The other griffons follow, much to the consternation of their riders.

The griffon stable is fairly active between the recovering wounded and other hunters returning that way. Nariya and Lia’s group will have made their way to the stable by now, along with the majority of the other orc hunters.

Chandra is there and will seek out Laucian when he sees him.

“As I understand it, you were back at the Mother Tree. How do things progress there? Has your clan selected a Clan Master? As I see it, we need a strong military presence here in the Sylvan Realm to insure that this travesty is never repeated again. Not one more orc shall ever set foot within this holy land! As one who has seen this evil first hand, surely you must agree? As your king, I swear that I will do all that I can to prevent this from ever happening, even if it means exterminating every one of those vermin!”

To the surprise of no one, Chandra is elected Clan Master of Clan Red Arrow. Solus, representing Clan Longrunner becomes the last Clan Master of the major elfin clans. He is firmly in Chandra’s camp.

The elf maidens who were looking for Valena will find her.

Back at the Mother Tree, things are quiet. Most are working to make the Realm habitable again while waiting word from the fighting to the south.

Lia will defend herself against this enemy knowing full well she will be given no quarter. “I will take no pleasure in killing you. You have come seeking death, sadly it will be your own.”

It happens so quick Nariya is stunned a moment. She soon recovers and rushes over to break up the fight. "You would fight one of us?" Nariya yells, putting herself between the two but looking square at Theras. "Lia is one of us, just simply from another clan. By this action you would bring war to all clans but yours? You're no better than the orcs we're fighting!"

Lia has the right to determine Theras' fate, so Nariya waits. If it was her choice things might be different, but she doesn't yet know what will be decided.

Laucian

Laucian will offer the two female elves rides to see Valena, taking one on his mount and the other to another griffon rider.

The flight takes a few hours to reach the griffon stable. Laucian directs his griffon into the narrow opening in the treetops that lead to the stable. The other griffons follow, much to the consternation of their riders.

“Hold on, this can be nerve racking the first time.” He calls back as his griffon dives toward the treetop line into a narrow opening in the trees. Once all the Riders are within the stables, Laucian will dismount and lead him to his stable. Once that is done, “What do you make of it? He asks the others riders then says, “ See to your mounts then to the wounded. “
Crossing his arms before him he listens to the Clan Master of Red Arrow. “Aye I was. There is much debate of the Clan masters and whom should lead us. We have. Lilia of Grundalf is our Clan master.” Laucian tries to hold back his tongue but cannot, “I agree to disagree. The orcs will be dealt with as they come against us, but to seek them out now is a folly. All that we fought for would be lost. Just look around you, Do you not see those wounded nor those who need rest? So enthralled with your bloodlust mission you did not think nor stop to consider that the wounded needed care nor did you even bother to appoint any to stay and look over them! You are a Priest of Corellun are you not blessed with the ability to heal let alone look out for your kin!
If you do become king, You will never be MY King… A king who look towards the safety and well being of his/her people, then seeks to protect them will be MY King or Queen, not one who seeks to wipe away the orcs not matter how many elves lives are lost in his delusional plan. Now if you will excuse me there are wounded to tend to and I grow tired of your company.” Laucian will not wait for a retort but walk towards Fayriana and Annelwin and ask them to follow him. Approaching Valena, “Valena this is Fayriana and Annelwin, they wish to speak to you.” Looking at the wounded he asks, “Are there any who need healing more then others?”

Laucian will seek out the riders and ask them to gather once they are ready they will head out to patrol.

Lia

Lia watches as her twin lioness tear throught the brush assaulting Thras as he gets off a spell making Lia squint but still she can hold him in her limited sight. The the voice.

“What is the meaning of this?!” Thyl demands. “Call off your lions!”

“He shot with one arrow and missed with another, then he attempts to attack me with his sword screaming of his patron. What I did? Nothing the case of being a Drow who wishes to see those of her kin realizes their mistakes and make amends.” She says looking at the demanding elf, her gaze steady as Nariya steps between them, her gaze dropping to the form of Theras and the two lionesses upon him.

“As the injured party here,” Katyr will say, “what do you wish done with him? Clearly he can no longer travel with us.”

Striding up to the Theras she will hold her sword to his throat, “Your death would be nothing to me as the wind upon a tree this day. Strip him of his weapons and his armor. He is to be bond and ganged, He will face the Clan Masters and their Justice.” She says to the others looking back at Theras. “Let him know that not all Drow are merciless killers and live with the fact that a drow has saved his life twice.”

Lia will keep her sword out and at the ready as Theras is disarmed and bond. Once done she will remove the arrow from her side and cast clw(whichever spell is needed to convert). When it comes time for Make camp Lia will move away from the others wishing to be alone as she prays to her patron for this lesson and her guidance though her eyes will not leave Theras.

And she will explain this to the others once they reach the griffon Stable.
The last thing you shall hear is the bladesong of my sword.

Lilia:

Morning comes and all is peaceful. Since Lilia didn’t cast any spells the previous day, she has no need to spend time studying or praying for new magicks. Laucian and his riders depart for the south to learn how the others faired in their struggle against the orcs.

The previous day was so filled with discussions about what to do next and who shall lead. Seemingly those questions have been addressed for now leaving this day with very little to do.

Those of the Feador Clan are busy restoring their Clanhold to a useable state. They current far out number any other clan since so many were already here in the realms, save with in the trees.

The Grunalf Clanhold is too distant and we are too few to make an attempt to restore it at this time. That will have to wait until a later date.

Having little better to do at the present, Lilia wanders Golden Peak chatting with those who wish to engage her in conversation.
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

Kylie wrote:"I'm not sure any of us know what our future plans are. Something we have in common. Still, she is your sister, so no doubt you'll visit her periodically." Kylie's look and tone make it clear that Talen had better not argue that last point.
“We’ll visit when able,” Talen easily agrees. “It’s strange and something that I didn’t realize when she was changed into a full drow. Much like our elfin parents, she’ll now live much longer than me. My sister will seemingly never age to me. That will be strange.”
Talen wrote:"By the way, my mom thinks Lilia may end up being selected as the new elven queen of the Sylvan Realms. If that happens, she is likely to want us to act as advisors or assistants in some capacity since she knows and trusts us. I've been thinking that maybe acting as some kind of ambassador or messenger would provide a good opportunity to travel a lot and still visit here regularly. What do you think?"
“Really?” Talen responds with obvious surprise. “That’s a surprise, but I guess your mom knows a lot more about the situation than I do. If that does happen, I guess it makes sense to work as an ambassador or messenger. You seem to be good with people, so it seems a reasonable choice. I guess it all depends on the demands of the job. Still, it does provide the travel we seek.”
Kylie wrote:With a little coaxing, Talen seems to relax a bit.
While apprehensive at first, Talen does start to enjoy himself and getting into the spirit. Being this close to Kylie is very enjoyable!

Next day Talen is up fairly early. He only needs a few hours of sleep to feel refreshed. It is a gift from his elfin heritage. He makes his way to the common area for something to eat. Nuts and fruit mostly, so Talen will have some fruit.

“What’s on today’s agenda?” He’ll ask. “It’s been so long since we’ve had free time I don’t know what to do with myself.”

Valena of the Silver Maidens

Post by Valena Feador »

Valena:

The wounded are moved to the griffon stable so that they can be treated. The worst of the wounded are healed right away while those with lesser injuries are bandaged up. Fortunately, a few other priests are present to help with the care.

Next morning, Valena is up early to replenish her spells. More healing magic is cast on those who really need it. Many elves are well enough to travel and they depart for the Mother Tree on foot. The path is an easy one to follow, just take the main road to the north and eventually you’ll reach the Mother Tree.

More elves arrive as the day progresses. Many are the other hunters from the orc hunt. They seem to have met with success and eliminated many orcs. More wounds are tended as they arrive.

Chandra is among the new arrivals and Valena simply chooses to avoid him. However, he asks how things are going here and Valena provides him with a quick explanation.

Nariya and Lia finally return, bringing with them an elf that is tied and gagged. It is quickly learned that he assaulted Lia in the forest and that he’s a follower of the Cult of the Black Arrow. Valena’s only heard whispers about the cult and, to her knowledge, never actually met one before.

“Are you okay, Lia? That was a very cowardly thing to do. Hatred of orcs and drow can run very deep in some elves. So much that it can overcome common sense.”

Valena learns that the plan is to turn him over to the Council so that they can decide his fate. Valena has nothing to add on that front.

Laucian and several other griffon riders arrive from the north. Laucian gets into a loud discussion with Chandra and makes it clear that he dislikes the man. After that, he introduces a pair of elf maidens.

Approaching Valena, “Valena this is Fayriana and Annelwin, they wish to speak to you.” Looking at the wounded he asks, “Are there any who need healing more then others?”

“Well met,” Valena says with a nod to the maidens.

“No one is in danger of dying at the present,” Valena tells Laucian, “but there are some who would benefit from healing magic. I suspect that most will be able to make the trip back to the Mother Tree in the morning.”

Turning back to the maidens, Valena will say, “So you wish to join the Silver Maidens? From what I’ve been told, there is a test to determine if a candidate is worthy enough. The test is to be accepted by a unicorn. The Order House is deep within the elfin forest so River Blossom tells me. If you are willing, then we’ll make the journey in the morning. I am eager to see the Order House and what it has to offer.”

“For now, relax and help out with the wounded if you have the skills.”

"I hadn't really thought about that, but it's a good point. It will be the same with my mother and I." Kylie looks speculatively at Talen. "It seems we have something else in common."
Talen wrote:“Really?” Talen responds with obvious surprise. “That’s a surprise, but I guess your mom knows a lot more about the situation than I do. "I suspect we would make a good team in that kind of role. Perhaps we could work together...?"
Talen wrote:“What’s on today’s agenda?” He’ll ask. “It’s been so long since we’ve had free time I don’t know what to do with myself.”
Talen find Kylie with her nose in some books of arcane theories and concepts. Based on Sherwood's comments, Kylie is trying to expand her knowledge of magic so as to increase her skill. If she really can learn more advanced spells like Teleport, that would help enormously.

"Good morning, sleepy-head," Kylie replies with a teasing giggle. "I've been thinking a bit about that. I would like to spend some time with my mom, as usual, but she's likely to be busy with politics for much of the day. I'm pretty sure that there is a lot of work that needs to be done around here, so perhaps we should ask about ways that we can pitch in. You never know what we might learn along the way."

If Talen is agreeable, Kylie will put the books away for now and begin asking around town about ways they might be able to help. She's not really inclined to hunting orcs, but there must be other things that need doing here in the village that seems to be growing up around Mother Tree.

Orc Hunt:

Out in the woods Nariya and Lia are among a group hunting orcs. One of the elves is revealed to be a follower of the Black Archer and tries to kill Lia, but is stopped.
Nariya wrote:It happens so quick Nariya is stunned a moment.
“She’s a drow!” Theras thunders back. “The same ones who tried to kill the All Father and overthrow the Seldarine! They will kill all elves if not stopped and YOU want to side with them? If there’s an orc present, then it is yourself!”

“It is the wise man”, Thyl retorts, “that judges the individual and not the race. Not all drow are evil, and likewise not all elves are good. I certainly have no love for drow as a race, but this particular drow helped save the Mother Tree and fights with us against the orcs. That makes her okay in my book.”

“I judge a man by his deeds,” Katyr adds. “Lia has fought valiantly and with honor. You tried to slay her with a surprise attack. If I didn’t know your races and had only heard of your deeds, then I’d have to conclude that if one of you were a dark elf, then it would have to be you.”
Lia wrote:Striding up to the Theras she will hold her sword to his throat, “Your death would be nothing to me as the wind upon a tree this day. Strip him of his weapons and his armor. He is to be bond and gagged, He will face the Clan Masters and their Justice.” She says to the others looking back at Theras. “Let him know that not all Drow are merciless killers and live with the fact that a drow has saved his life twice.”

Lia will keep her sword out and at the ready as Theras is disarmed and bond. Once done she will remove the arrow from her side and cast clw (whichever spell is needed to convert). When it comes time for Make camp Lia will move away from the others wishing to be alone as she prays to her patron for this lesson and her guidance though her eyes will not leave Theras.
The others agree and Theras is secured. Camp is set up for the evening and come the morning, the hunters begin the trek back to the griffon stable.

Griffon Stable:

By mid morning, Laucian and his griffon riders reach the stable.
Laucian wrote:“Hold on, this can be nerve racking the first time.” He calls back as his griffon dives toward the treetop line into a narrow opening in the trees. Once all the Riders are within the stables, Laucian will dismount and lead him to his stable. Once that is done, “What do you make of it? He asks the others riders then says, “See to your mounts then to the wounded.“
“Nerve racking he says,” Breeze mutters as he slips off the back of his griffon. Like the rest of the riders, the way in was an unexpected surprise.

“A fine looking stable,” Niles notes. “A testament to the skill and imagination of our forefathers.”

The new arrivals spread out and Laucian comes across Chandra.
Crossing his arms before him he listens to the Clan Master of Red Arrow. “Aye I was. There is much debate of the Clan masters and who should lead us. You are a Priest of Corellon are you not blessed with the ability to heal let alone look out for your kin!”

”If you do become king, you will never be MY King… A king who look towards the safety and well being of his/her people, then seeks to protect them will be MY King or Queen, not one who seeks to wipe away the orcs not matter how many elves lives are lost in his delusional plan. Now if you will excuse me there are wounded to tend to and I grow tired of your company.” Laucian will not wait for a retort but walk towards Fayriana and Annelwin and ask them to follow him.
“Clearly, he is not a man of much vision,” Chandra will say as Laucian walks away. “He has a fiery spirit, that one, but not the will to channel it. Perhaps he has grown soft when it comes to fighting against orcs? A king who does not protect his people from their most dire enemy will soon be the king of nothing as his people will be no more. How such a man became the head of the Order of Golden Griffons is a mystery to me.”

Not long after that, the Griffon Riders depart once more on their patrol. They find that the three forts to the south of the Sylvan Realm are still intact. The groups sent to those forts were forced to chase the orcs into the Sylvan Realm rather than deal with those structures.

The three forts are quite distant from the griffon stable. To reach any one of them would take a full days flight and you’ve already traveled far this day. So, if you took off now you’d have to find a place to camp for the night before reaching your destinations. You might be able to reach the Elfin Palace and land there for the night

Elsewhere in the Griffon Stable, Valena meets her own applicants to the Silver Maidens.
Valena wrote:“Well met,” Valena says with a nod to the maidens. “So you wish to join the Silver Maidens? From what I’ve been told, there is a test to determine if a candidate is worthy enough. “I am willing,” Annelwin will say. “I too serve the Lady of the Forests and to have a unicorn companion has been a dream of mine.”

“Just let me know when we’ll be leaving,” Fayrianna adds.

Later that day, Nariya and Lia’s group arrives at the stable bearing their prisoner. The story is told and Theras is locked up for the day.

Many of the lightly wounded have already departed for the Mother Tree on foot. The rest will make the journey come the morning.

The night passes without incident.

Next day, Valena and her followers depart on their own as they trek to the Order House of the Silver Maidens located in a hidden place deep within the woods.

Chandra and the other elves begin the walk back to the Mother Tree, a trip that will take most of the day.

When it comes time to release Theras for the journey to the Mother Tree, Lia and those with her are surprised to find that he is gone!

“He either escaped or had help,” Katyr suggests. “There are many elves who sympatric to the Black Archers cause, even if they won’t openly admit it.”

“We can track him down,” Thyl suggests. “See that he is brought to justice. What do you wish, Lia?”

Back at the Mother Tree, things are not as exciting. Clan Feador continues to recover supplies buried centuries ago and homes are claimed. It is strange to see so many people about, but there are no true families here. There are no children either. The general hope is that this will change once the Rainbow Bridge opens up next and more elves return to their ancestral home.

Those jobs available around the Mother Tree include helping bring supplies back in and food gathering mostly. There are those who are on guard duty and those scouting the forest floor below to make sure nothing undesirable gets too closed to the Mother Tree. Otherwise it’s pretty quiet.

Late on the afternoon when Laucian departed, the first of the wounded and those who didn’t continue the orc hunt begin to arrive at the Mother Tree.

Around a day later, the rest of the elves will return to the Mother Tree including Chandra. That evening that full Clan Council will convene and the discussions on how should rule the elves will begin.

GM Notes

Post by GM Mad »

GM Notes:

Couple of things here. I finally got a list of elfin people together and it’s posted at the top of Elfquest forum. Let me know if I missed anyone! The list also includes the full list of elfin and drow deities for reference. I did change the gender of Rillifane to female, as that particular portfolio makes the most sense for a priest who serves the Mother Tree. And since it’s the Mother Tree and not the Father Tree, a female deity seemed more appropriate.

I’ve updated experience points over on the Roster page in the private area. I’ve been dragging my feet on doing XP’s for all the games for a long time now. As most of you know, I use program to generate the original sheets and to track XP’s. It’s not a perfect program and because of that I started to put the sheets online.

Last September I had a major computer issue and ended up re-installing most of my programs. During this time I inadvertently lost the most up to date files of the character sheets. The only copies I have now are (literally) years out of date. However, the data online is current and I did save HTML versions of the sheet as well, so I have all the information, just not in the program itself. (These HTML Versions are the ones I’ve sent out in Email in the past.)

So I finally broke down and did the update by hand. There’s a lot of points as this covers the final battle with Moorkroft, restoring the Mother Tree, the raid at the fort to the north, and the skirmishes since. So there is the potential to gain levels and some folks already have.

Laucian has to decide if he’s going to try and reach the three forts to the south of the Sylvan Realms. The distance to them from the Griffon Stable is very nearly how far a griffon can fly in 1 day, so they cannot be reached today. The Elfin Palace might be reachable and can be used as camp for the night, if you so desire. Or ignore the forts for now. It’s your call.

Lia needs to decide if she’s going to go after Theras or just return to the Mother Tree.

Now what?

Lilia the Leader?

Post by Lilia »

Lilia:

Much to Lilia’s surprise, it seems that the All Father has seen fit to increase her priestly powers. So Lilia’s morning is spent in prayer adding new spells to her inventory.

The days that follow are mostly quiet. Some of the wounded start to trickle back in and Lilia will help make sure that there are places to put them in the town below. Even with the large number of Clan Feador present, there still should be more than enough room in Feadiel.

Lilia notes that Kylie and Talen are present and will stop to speak to them, asking how they are doing and what their future plans are.

It is late the next day when the majority of the elves return to the Mother Tree. The council has been filled and convenes for the first time. Now the real task of electing leaders begins. It may not be pretty.
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

“That could be interesting,” Talen easily answers. “If you don’t mind me screwing up every now and then. I’m still pretty new to this sort of thing.”
Kylie wrote:Talen find Kylie with her nose in some books of arcane theories and concepts. Based on Sherwood's comments, Kylie is trying to expand her knowledge of magic so as to increase her skill. If she really can learn more advanced spells like Teleport, that would help enormously.

“It sounds like a plan,” Talen will say.

After eating, the pair goes in search of ways to pitch in and help. Much to Talen’s surprise, the elves already seem to know what to do, as if it was natural for them. Some are out foraging, while others stand guard or are on patrol. There doesn’t seem to be anyone in charge; it’s as if the elves just know what to do.

“That’s kind of spooky. Everyone seems to know what to do without being told. Must be an elf thing.”

We run into Lilia and talk for a time, although Talen can’t think of anything new to say.

Talen will keep and eye open to see when Lia returns.

“In either case, he is gone and those who helped them have much to answer for. Squinting up into the trees, “Let him go for now. It is best to return to the Mother tree and speak to those within power so they know of my ordeal with Theras and his cowardly attack.”

“Thank you for your kind words my friends, here and yesterday. It is good to know that there are those who look past my skin and view me by my deeds and actions.”

While praying soon after Lia finds that the Dark Maiden has blessed her and she now can pray for more spells. Lia will make ready to move to the Mother tree with the others, keeping a watchful eye.

Griffon Riders:

Laucian and his fellow Order of the Golden Griffon riders depart the stable near the geyser clearing. They fly south towards the Elfin Palace. The palace itself sits on an isolated island in the middle of a large river. A long suspended bridge connects the palace at its northern end to Pinit, the elfin city on the main land. Pinit is the ancestral home to Clan Long Runner.

As far as Laucian knows, no one has been back to the palace since they rescued Lilia and Caperling the centaur. The griffon riders approach the northern landing area and it seems clear of any of the armored automations that were here earlier. A quick check reveals the area to be clear of danger. Several of the armored suits are found laying on the floor, but none of them animate.

Luciard will suggest, "Since Moorkroft is no more, perhaps his foul enchantments were undone as well? Or it could have been the Mother Tree who cleared the palace of its guards?"

Camp is set up and the night passes without incident.

Theras:

Morning comes to those back at the Griffon Stable. Those who remain are preparing to make the days journey north to the Mother Tree. Lia and her companions discover that Theras has escaped some time during the night. Thyl suggests hunting him down while Katyr wonders if he had help.
Lia wrote:"In either case, he is gone and those who helped them have much to answer for. Squinting up into the trees, "Let him go for now. It is best to return to the Mother tree and speak to those within power so they know of my ordeal with Theras and his cowardly attack."

"Thank you for your kind words my friends, here and yesterday. It is good to know that there are those who look past my skin and view me by my deeds and actions."
"Do not judge all elves by Theras," Thyl easily states. "All I spoke was the truth. There will be those who will hate you no matter what you do and there will be those who will find out the truth for themselves instead of giving in to hatred."

"It is easy to hate those you know nothing about," Katyr adds. "It is harder to hate someone that you know and whose deeds are common knowledge."

The elves move out on their march back to the Mother Tree.

Southern Forts:

The Griffon Riders are off come the dawn. The morning is bright and clear and the griffons make excellent progress. All three forts are roughly the same distance away, so it doesn't matter which one you go to first.

As the riders reach the fort, they realize there is movement down in the fort! Several female orcs and child orcs are spotted. Upon seeing the griffons' overhead, the orcs all run into the buildings to hide.

The Elfin Council

Late that same day, the full Elfin Council convenes for the first time. The topic of who shall rule comes up immediately and there is some debate. Chandra calls for a vote and the process to select the next Elfin King or Queen begins.

Chandra votes first and votes for himself. Alanik Feador votes for Lilia. Solus votes for Chandra. Lilia votes for herself. Stobon votes for himself. Olantius votes for Lilia, while Voluril surprisingly picks Chandra, making the two priests tied in the vote.

"We are deadlocked," Chandra calls out; somewhat surprised that he wasn't a landslide pick. "Allurien of Clan Feador has yet to choose. Your vote shall decide who shall lead. Make your choice."

Allurien stands up with all eyes upon her.

"I choose Lilia," Allurien says. "She is clearly the best choice."

Chandra is visibly stunned at the result and light applause rings out. It is clear that Chandra and his allies are not happy.

"What?" Chandra calls out. "She has no experience in leadership! I've been training for this all my life! This is the path Corellon has set forth for me and you choose another? This is outrageous!"

"The Council has spoken," Alanik calmly states. "It is our will that Lilia shall be the Elfin Queen."

In the aftermath of that vote, Chandra does become the Head of the Clan Council. As such, both Chandra and Lilia will have to renounce their membership in their clans as they now both represent the whole of the Elfin people. Both of their former positions will have to be replaced on the Clan Council.

The meeting adjourns and the elves greet their new queen.

Now what?

While the rest of us see to the fort. No Women or children are to be harm unless they provoke us.”
