Not me, personnally. No time and it turns out my computer doesn't meet their minimum requirements.

I think Dave (Frostbite) may be playing it online. I know for certainly that Mike (formerly Gargoyle among others) is playing it online. Look for the LA Knights and its those guys!

But from what I heard the graphics are good and youc an be creative with the powers/costumes you can create.

I Am

I've been playing it for a month off and on. Mostly off when my old system fails me. I've had to spend money (gasp) to make the min. requierments and back the graphics details down to 70% but I am having fun with other players-the real strength of the game for me. It can be good or very bad just like a live game. Just have to find the right people....

I say this as a person who doesn't play on the computer for fun and has never had an online game before. Never saw one that interested me until now. Anyway, I'm still in the e-mail game and not likely to stop anytime soon. BTW, loved the battle for Rennydale!

I'd love to give it a try, but my 5 year old computer is way to wimpy to handle it. I'm saving up for a laptop, but that's a good year or so away.

Probably just as well. Looks like mine won't work either. I have just over the min. requirerments but I keep getting disconnected. If the memeory card I ordered doesn't help then I'll be out of it.

My computers fairly old by comptuer standards these days, 4.5 years. Replacing it is not an option at the moment and only just recently did I start to come across games that I couldn't run.

No One Lives Forever 2 was the last game I bought and it wouldn't run on the system. Very annoying as it was just 1 level of graphics cards from making the minimum! Argh!

At any rate, Bruce, there is an old superhero game that was loads of fun to play called Freedom Force. There are pre-generated characters in that or you could make your own. A quick description of the game would be imaging Stan Lee and Jack Kirby at the height of ther talents, say '65-68 Marvel, creaing a computer game and you've got Freedom Force!

Hmmm... It would seem I missed this conversation by about 3 years. :D

Yes I did, In fact, get in on the end of the Beta testing CoH. The game was AWESOME in the beginning (We actually took 3 days off from work to be home for the 3 Day Head Start they did for beta testers before the public release of the game. I do confess that in the beginning the game was a little unbalanced... some of the classes did have unfair advantage over certain others. The problems came when the lead developer became a tin-pot dictator and decided he longer cared what the players wanted and just went nuts with the stupidest stuff, like dropping a Tank's (CoH's version of a Brick) MAXIMUM defense from 80% to 20%. (Which was like replacing the questonite plating in your armor with toilet paper laminated Cradboard.)

Those problems not withstanding, I have recently returned to CoH on the Victory Server. While I still want to cry when I log in and remember what the game was like in the beginning, It still beats Worlds of Warcraft.

Still never tried it. In fact, I've gotten away from PC gaming completely. I picked up an Xbox 360 last summer and got a PS2 right after Christmas. That's where my game playing has gone these days. A lot of good games to be had there!
Try it and find out!

Hey all -

Gave CoH a trial on the two-week DL and while it was interesting, it was not good enough to pull me away from World of Warcraft. I played for a day on it, created several characters and ran 1 a little through the beginning. Seems like it could be interesting, but expecting more from Champs Online when it comes. Apparently, it is from the same development company, but we'll see when the time comes.

If others were playing it, I might be pursuaded somehow, but it looks like this is a no go for me.

I've tried trials on a bunch of games, and so far City of Heroes / Villains (I actually like the Villains areas better) and Lord of the Rings Online are my two favorites. Still, neither of them has been good enough to get me to commit $15 a month.

I think my biggest disappointment with CoH/V is the very limited character creation. There are really only 5 basic types that you can start out with; which means that many of the classic superhero types are unavailable at the beginning. For example, you can eventually become a speedster, but you cannot start as one. I'm definitely expecting more flexibility with Champs Online when it comes out.

Has anyone tried WarHammer Online? I'm wondering if it would appeal to me more than WoW did.

I've been playing it since 2004 and I'm still in there. I started on Protector server but have since moved around a bit to some of the others. For me the game aspect of teaming up with others to accomplish victories is the fun part. But it has many layers and aspects to it that can appeal to other types of players. Now I hate to throw cold water and wet blankets on anyone's hopes but the Champions Online game's head developer is the same 'tyrant' referred to earlier in the above posts. Also the same fellow that was working on Marvel's version. We all know how that went. Few details are coming out about that system. No details came out about Marvel's. He was also working on the Star Trek Fleet Online game and was pulled off it. Me am sensing pattern.

This is the only online game I play. Can't give an opinion on any others. Also, since I use a Linux machine I'm limited to what games I could play. They have to be adaptable. And I have to like them.

My 2 cents

Kinda have to disagree with you Gordon. Yes there are 5 types with the addition of 2 types once you hit 50. In actuality you can argue its 10 types if you include the villian's side. You and I could make the same type character and make them completely different. For instance, I have a Electricity blaster who was once slotted for damage and now he isnt. The way he is set up is he Drains people's endurance leaving them unprotected and un able to fight back. You might have done All damage or something to that affect. The game is good for Solo and group play as long as you can create a character that can do both. Some can, some can't.

My biggest complaint with the game is actually the maps, alot of them are very familiar once you hit 40.. but the TF's are alot of fun especially when you team villains and heroes up to fight a greater evil.
