Elfquest #31

The Mother Tree has been restored, the elves released from the Rainbow Bridge and the trees in which they slumbered. In a matter of moments the elfin population has gone from a handful to several hundred. There are lots of new faces and people to meet.
Lia wrote:“It is good to see your slumber has not affected your vision.” she says with a smirk. "I am Lia of The Dark Maiden." she says inclining her cowled covered head.
“Well met, Lia of Eilistraee,” the High Keeper responds. “I am Alanik Feador, High Keeper of the Tree.”
Lia wrote:“Pardon my naivety, but I am far younger then I look. I’ve only seen nineteen winters.” She says looking at the Elder Elf. “What are the Darksong Knights?” she asks curiously, “What were their responsibilities?” she asks.
“The were a group of Priestess of the Dark Maiden based here in the Realm. Their presence was generally unknown to the regular elves. The war between the surface and the Underdark elves still rages from time to time. There are drow who would see the Sylvan Realm destroyed. Occasionally they launch attacks and the Darksong Knights were the first line of defense.”

“At the same time they would work to bring those elves who wanted to return to the light into the Sylvan Realm.”
Lilia wrote:“Well met, Clanswoman,” Lilia will say in greeting. “In addition to myself, Laucian is also from Clan Grunalf. Do you know how long ago you left the Elfholds?”
Dorotha returns the greeting, with a slightly puzzled look on her face. “Hail to you, Clanswoman. Are you not the one called Lilia? I seem to remember you from the clan hold. I do not recall you being a Priestess of Corellon. I cannot be certain when I left home. It seemed like just a moment ago.”
Lilia wrote:“The honor is mine, Feywarden Brother,” Lilia answers with a bow of respect. “Alas, I am new to the priesthood. Becoming a priestess of the All-Father was my reward for restoring the Mother Tree. I have been blessed to have heard the words of the All-Father are four separate occasions now. This was not the path I originally intended to walk, but I’ve gone through many changes and now it is the road I wish to take.”
“Really?” Chandra says in surprise. “For one so young to have spoken to the All-Father on multiple occasions is indeed a true blessing. I will teach you what I can about our faith, but there are other matters that take precedence. We must secure our boarders and defeat whatever enemies remain here. Can I count on your assistance in this matter?”
Valena wrote:“Well met, forest cousins,” Valena states. “Its seems that share both clan and goddess. We found a Sacred Grove not too far away from our location. I am sure that you would like to visit it when time permits.”
“Greetings,” Kaffa replies. “A sacred grove you say? Yes, I would very much like to visit it when able.”

“Is that armor what I think it is?” Jetter questions. “Armor of Ehlonna?”

Allurien Feador:

Among those released from the Rainbow Bridge is Allurien Feador, Kylie’s elfin mother.
Kylie wrote:Her mother's response confuses Kylie for a few moments, then comprehension dawns behind her eyes. "I -- I'm sorry, Mom. This must be quite a shock for you. You probably had no sense of the passage of time while you were stuck in there, so it seems like no time has passed, even though it's been years."
“I will adapt,” Allurien says with a smile. “How many years was I ‘gone’?”
Kylie wrote:Kylie pauses a second to collect her thoughts, sitting down and inviting her mother to do the same. "What the elders didn't know when they sent out all those teams to investigate the situation up here was that the Crystal Platform was damaged and Mother Tree was dying. Thus, there was no terminus to the Rainbow Bridge and you were all caught in stasis within. This was all due to the actions of a mad wizard named Moorkroft who wanted to destroy the Sylvan Realm.

"Meanwhile, years passed, and Dad and I were left to believe that you had died of some strange elven sickness. Some time later, he was crippled in an accident and was no longer able to work. We ended up living in the slums of Elcadan where I learned to steal to get food. Eventually, a wizard realized that I had magical talent and arranged for me to be trained in the mystic arts. Once my training was complete, that same wizard recruited me to join a group of adventurers he was assembling.

"A few months ago, the elders approached the elves in the group and asked us to look into the situation here in the Sylvan Realm. By this time, they had realized that a new approach was needed, so they asked us to make the trip by more normal means. Thus, we ended up flying all the way out here on a flying barge powered by a Spell Engine. It took quite a while, but we managed to collect all twelve of the Crystal Platform's medallions, defeat Moorkroft and restore Mother Tree. Doing so completed the Rainbow Bridge and released you all from stasis.
(Editor’s Note: Minor correction here, as it was Corellon himself you appeared before the five chosen elves via a Commune spell Nightmist tried to cast in Blackflame #9.)
Kylie wrote:"And here you are," she says with a joyful smile. "I have missed you so much, Mom." Kylie hugs her mother once again, and then realizes that Lilia has been addressing the gathered elves.
Allurien takes a few moments to digest all that she’s been told. “Where is your father now? Is he all right? I’ve got to get back to take care of him…”

“What an amazing tale,” Allurien adds as she hugs her daughter. “And to think that you had such an important role in it! You have no idea how proud I am of you.”

“I never imagined that I would be away for some long. Maybe a month or two at most, but for years? I am truly sorry that I missed so much, but as you now know my mission was of great importance. I’m not sure who told you that I had died. That was very callus of them. Some elves frown on human and elf pairings and will never accept half-elves. That’s many why I concealed my clan name as it would bring instant recognize to me.”

“For now I need to complete my mission here, then we can go and take care of your father. If only I could bring him here to be with us.”
Kylie wrote:"Hello," Kylie says, a little hesitantly. "It is a pleasure to meet you both."
“Well met,” Kaffa responds. “I was unaware that you had children, Allurien.”

“Just my little Kylie here,” Allurien answers. “Although she’s not so little any more.”

“You have the thanks and the gratitude of the elfin people for you what you’ve done here,” Jetter adds. “Your names and deeds will never be forgotten.”
Lilia wrote:Lilia spots Kylie with walking and talking with an unfamiliar elf lady.

“You must be Kylie’s mother.” Lilia will say in greeting. “It is an honor to meet you. You have a very fine daughter. Without her help and skill, I doubt we would have succeeded in our mission.”
“Yes, I am Kylie’s mother,” Allurien answers. “I thank you for helping her along in my absence.”
Valena wrote:“Well met, Clan sister,” Valena will say. “It is an honor to finally meet you. I am Valena Feador, Priestess of Ehlonna and a skilled archer.”
“Good to meet you, Valena. Always good to have members of our clan around.”

Meeting:

At the meeting with the elfin leaders, Lilia lays out the situation, as she understands it.

“So, this foul human mage desecrated the Elfin Palace?” Chandra notes in disgust. “We will have to go there and remove his vile stench.”

“Agreed,” Sithel adds, “but such a thing should not be our top priority. There are too few of us to defend the Sylvan Realm against an army. It seems to me that we must make a preemptive strike against our enemies. Wipe them out before they can organize and invade.”

“To that end, each one of our groups should be dispatched to remove the threat of these forts. Destroy the forts, break the will of those stationed there, and then they will flee to safer lands. That will then give us the time we need to repopulate the Sylvan Realm and prepare better defenses.”

“There are wisdom to your words,” Sheeryl Soulsearcher agrees. “Rout the enemy before they can organize and it will give us time to raise our own army and shore up our defenses.”

Laucian and/or Nariya provide the location of the enemy forts. Turns out that there are eleven of them in all.

Turning to Lilia, Chandra will say, “There are eleven forts and ten parties of elves. If your associates can take down a fort on your own, then we can strike the entire enemy at once. Are you and your associates up to this task?”

Afterwards:

Laucian continues to get to know his new griffon mount. The griffon stables and the order hall are here on Golden Peak, so he can look around there too.

Valena chats with her unicorn mount and they discuss the Order of the Silver Maidens. The unicorn will say that her name is River Blossom. The order hall is else where in the Sylvan Realm

Nariya will speak to the Mother Tree when she has a moment and request her reward. Upon completion, Nariya notes an elegantly carved spear close by. In equally elegant runes, the spear has “Orcsbane” written on it.

Kylie makes her wish and is granted the power of flight.
Kylie wrote:"Can I meet you at the bottom of Mother Tree, mom? There is something I need to do." She then walks out to the Crystal Platform. Closing her eyes for a moment, she thinks about rising into the air just as she would do if she had cast a Fly spell. Looking down, Kylie sees that she is indeed floating in the air nearly a foot off the platform! With a happy smile, she takes off and goes spinning and wheeling through the air and around Mother Tree, revelling in the freedom and joy of pure flight. Realizing that she has been doing so for several minutes, Kylie begins working her way down and around the tree to the ground, landing lightly a few steps from her mother.

"Hi, mom," she says, beaming.
“Hello, Kylie,” Allurien says with a smile. “You do indeed have magical talent. But you are my daughter and I am a sorceress, among other things, so that should not be a big surprise. It seems that we both have our missions to carry out against the orcs. I assume that you’ll be travelling with your friends?”

GM Notes:

Nariya’s spear is magical. It is a spear +5, +10 vs. goblinoid races. In addition, it can grow larger in size from a normal 5’ long spear into one that is 12’ long. Orcsbane will return to Nariya’s hand the round after it was thrown.

“I have been more than blessed,” Lilia agrees. “So much so that it was all of this that led me to serving the All-Father. I thank you for any help you can give me in my new life.”

“I agree that we must take back the Sylvan Realm and make it secure once more for the elves and all the good creatures that dwell here. I will do whatever I can to accomplish this task.”
Allurien wrote:“Yes, I am Kylie’s mother,” Allurien answers. “I thank you for helping her along in my absence.”
“You are more than welcome, ma’am. Oh, forgive my manners I am Lilia of Corellon. It is a pleasure to finally meet you.”
At the meeting with the elfin leaders, Lilia lays out the situation, as she understands it.

“It seems the most logical course of action,” Lilia agrees. “Let us pray that the enemy has not already organized. What is in our favor is that Moorkroft seemed to distance himself from his followers as he was changed due to his draining the life force of slumbering elves. He could no longer show himself to his orc armies. Undoubtedly they will have seem the Mother Tree restored by now, so it’ll be race to reach them before they enter into the Sylvan Realm.”

“I believe we are, Feywarden Brother,” Lilia proudly states. “For the good of the elfin people, we must be.”

Lilia notes that many of her companions are no longer present as the meeting comes to an end. Kylie is here with her mother and Lia is present as well. Stepping out of the meeting chamber, Lilia goes in search of the others.

She finds Talen and Nariya near the edge of the platform looking out over the Sylvan Realms. Laucian is tending to a large griffon not too far away and Valena is speaking to a beautiful unicorn.

Tapping Nariya and Talen on the shoulders, Lilia will say, “Come friends, we have much to discuss.”

To Laucian she’ll say, “Your reward for restoring the Mother Tree? He is magnificent. If you can pull yourself away for a few moments, we have things to discuss.”

To Valena she’ll say, “Your reward definitely suits you, Valena. She is among the most beautiful creatures that I have ever seen. It seems that are tasks in the Sylvan Realm are not over with yet. Come, we must talk.”

Looking around Lilia cannot see Sherwood anywhere. “Has anyone seen Sherwood Elf-Friend?”

Once everyone is together, Lilia will speak. “My friends, it seems that we have at least one more task to carry out here in the Sylvan Realms. The leaders wish to launch a preemptive strike against Moorkroft’s armies. There are eleven enemy forts and ten groups of elves just arrived. We’ve been asked to attack the last fort. Our mission is simple. Destroy the fort, defeat the enemy, and make them scatter. When that is done, then there will be no more immediate threats to the Sylvan Realm. Then we can concentrate on rebuilding and restoring this Holy Land.”

“Are you with me?”
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

Valena:
“Greetings,” Kaffa replies. “A sacred grove you say? Yes, I would very much like to visit it when able.”

“Is that armor what I think it is?” Jetter questions. “Armor of Ehlonna?”
“It is Holy Armor of Ehlonna,” Valena proudly tells the twin priests of her faith. “There are Rings of Ehlonna to be had too. We should be equipped as best we can for the struggles to come.”
Allurien wrote:“Good to meet you, Valena. Always good to have members of our clan around.”
“That it is,” Valena agrees. “It seems that our clan has finally regained our status among the other clans. It is a joyous time.”
Valena chats with her unicorn mount and they discuss the Order of the Silver Maidens. The unicorn will say that her name is River Blossom. The order hall is else where in the Sylvan Realm
“Hello River Blossom, I am Valena Feador,” she’ll respond as she gently strokes the unicorn. The information on the Silver Maidens fascinates Valena. She intends to try and restore this elite organization when time permits.
Lilia wrote:To Valena she’ll say, “Your reward definitely suits you, Valena. She is among the most beautiful creatures that I have ever seen. It seems that are tasks in the Sylvan Realm are not over with yet. Come, we must talk.”
Valena is actually startled when Lilia speaks to her after being so wrapped up in her new mount. “Yes, she beautiful. Her name is River Blossom.” Valena follows Lilia and River Blossom follows both.
Lilia wrote:Looking around Lilia cannot see Sherwood anywhere. “Has anyone seen Sherwood Elf-Friend?”
“The last I saw him was back on the ground,” Valena explains. “I don’t believe he came up the Mother Tree with the rest of us.”

Talen:
Nariya wrote:"You too?" Nariya says, seeing it's Talen sitting down not far from her. She is staring out over the railing taking in the incredible view. "I can't help but feel, even with all this cause for celebration, that something is still wrong. Out there I mean," she adds, pointing with her chin out into the vast wilderness.
Talen is startled to find Nariya so close to him. Rangers move too quietly at times!

“It’s not so much that I feel that something is wrong,” Talen will say, “but rather things are changing so much that I don’t know where I belong any more. Lia’s going down a path that I cannot take with her. We all seem to be going our separate ways. I guess I just don’t know where I belong or what I should do. Things were so much simpler in Lost Valley.”
Lilia wrote:Tapping Nariya and Talen on the shoulders, Lilia will say, “Come friends, we have much to discuss.”
“Uhm, okay,” Talen answers as we pulls himself up.

To Save Mother Tree

Kylie:
Allurien wrote:“I will adapt,” Allurien says with a smile. “How many years was I ‘gone’?”
"To be honest, I don't quite remember how old I was when you disappeared, Mom, but I am twenty-one years old now."

I’m not sure who told you that I had died. That was very callus of them. Some elves frown on human and elf pairings and will never accept half-elves. That’s mainly why I concealed my clan name as it would bring instant recognize to me.”

“For now I need to complete my mission here, then we can go and take care of your father. If only I could bring him here to be with us.”
Her mother's mention of her father and taking care of him brings anxiety crashing down on Kylie. She stammers for several moments as her mother continues to talk, unsure what to say. "Thank you, Mom," Kylie finally manages, "that means a lot to me." She pauses for another second trying to figure out a good way to say what comes next, finally giving up and just laying it out. "I'm very sorry, Mom, and I hope you will understand that we believed you to be dead... Dad... well, I don't know quite how to say this, but he eventually met a nice human woman and remarried. They now live quietly in a small village outside Elcadan." Kylie searches her mother's eyes for some sense of what she's feeling.

Kylie smiles with pleasure at her mother's love and the other clanmate's thanks. "Thank you. This is so amazing for me; I was never really sure we would succeed, or that it would be as big a task as it turned into. I'm just thankful that all of my friends survived."
Allurien wrote:“Yes, I am Kylie’s mother,” Allurien answers. “I thank you for helping her along in my absence.”
Lilia wrote:“You are more than welcome, ma’am. Oh, forgive my manners I am Lilia of Corellon. It is a pleasure to finally meet you.”
Lilia manages to appear almost out of nowhere while Kylie is distracted by something in another direction. Before she can make proper introductions, Lilia and her mother are already conversing. "Oh, there you are, Lilia. I wanted to introduce you, but it seems you beat me to it."
Allurien wrote:“Hello, Kylie,” Allurien says with a smile. “You do indeed have magical talent. But you are my daughter and I am a sorceress, among other things, so that should not be a big surprise. It seems that we both have our missions to carry out against the orcs. I assume that you’ll be travelling with your friends?”
What her mother says makes sense, Kylie thinks with a nod. "While I hate the idea of being away from you again, I know this is the right thing to do. Speaking of which, it looks like Lilia is gathering us up for a planning meeting. I should go, but I'll see you again as soon as we're done. Okay?" Kylie really is reluctant to leave her mother's side, but manages to drag herself away anyway.
Lilia wrote:“Are you with me?”
"Absolutely. We fought too hard to free this land from Moorkroft to give it up so soon to a bunch of orcs."

When the meeting ends, Kylie approaches Talen. "Talen? There is someone I would like you to meet, if you're willing."

Post Continued:

The Mother Tree has been restored, along with a multitude of elves. However anyone with eyes can plainly see the giant Mother Tree towering over the Sylvan Realms. There is no doubt that the orcs in the forts outside the Sylvan Realms have noticed and will soon act. But before this there is meeting and greeting to be done.

Meet the Elves:

“Regardless of that, I am happy that you and the others have been freed from the Rainbow Bridge. It is good to have familiar faces around.”
Dorotha nods her understand. “Yes, it is good to have other clansmen around. It makes the Sylvan Realms feel even more like home.”
Lilia wrote:“I have been more than blessed,” Lilia agrees. “So much so that it was all of this that led me to serving the All-Father. I thank you for any help you can give me in my new life.”

Allurien Feador:

Among those released from the Rainbow Bridge was Kylie’s mother, Allurien Feador, a powerful hero among her clan. She was leader of the first expedition to the Sylvan Realms via the Rainbow Bridge.
Kylie wrote:"To be honest, I don't quite remember how old I was when you disappeared, Mom, but I am twenty-one years old now."
“You were ten the last time I saw you,” Allurien says in a voice just above a whisper.
Kylie wrote:Her mother's mention of her father and taking care of him brings anxiety crashing down on Kylie. She stammers for several moments as her mother continues to talk, unsure what to say. “Oh,” is all that Allurien says at first. It’s clear as the words sink in that she’s feeling hurt.

“Perhaps it is for the best then,” Allurien will finally say after a long pause. “If your father has found happiness, then I am happy for him.”
Kylie wrote:What her mother says makes sense, Kylie thinks with a nod. "While I hate the idea of being away from you again, I know this is the right thing to do. Kylie really is reluctant to leave her mother's side, but manages to drag herself away anyway.
“Nothing could keep me from being with you again,” Allurien whispers as she hugs her daughter tightly. “Not even Gruumsh himself could keep me away. Be careful, be safe.”
Valena wrote:“That it is,” Valena agrees. “It seems that our clan has finally regained our status among the other clans. It is a joyous time.”
“Perhaps you are right,” Allurien adds. “Once things have settled down again, we’ll have to see what condition our clan hold is in. I know that there are many in the Elfholds who wish to return to their homeland. Much to do, much to do.”

Battle Preparations:
Lilia wrote:“There is danger there,” Lilia warns. “We encountered magical tricks and traps there. Even with Moorkroft just a bad memory, those things he left behind remain. A unit of our best scouts and mages should be assigned the task of clearing out the elfin palace when the time comes.”
The elves present agree with Lilia’s suggestion. It is wise and logical.
Lilia wrote:“It seems the most logical course of action,” Lilia agrees. “Let us pray that the enemy has not already organized. “We must move, and we must move now,” Chandra interjects. “Before these orcs reach the forest. To that end, let us all return to our prospective groups and prepare for the battle to come. The Mother Tree has been restored, but she is not yet safe. Let’s us finish the job that the Chosen of Corellon has started.”

As Lilia speaks to those who completed the mission to restore the Mother Tree, a large roc comes flying very close to Golden Peak! Many of the elves present are weary; but Valena assures all that it is safe. Valena exchanges words with the Roc and then relates what she has learned to everyone present.

“The rocs indicate that the orcs are streaming out of their fortress right now! They are offering to carry us to the enemy. But we have to leave now!

Now what?
Try it and find out!

Nariya:

Nariya will speak to the Mother Tree when she has a moment and request her reward. Upon completion, Nariya notes an elegantly carved spear close by. In equally elegant runes, the spear has “Orcsbane” written on it.

Nariya smiles as she looks over the spear. It feels so powerful in her hands. She thanks Mother Tree for such a wonderous gift. She fears that it will be put to use sooner rather than later however.

"Things are always so much simplier before you step outside," Nariya comments. "I find it impossible to stay in any one place for long, but can understand you feeling lost. It's a big world out there, but there's bound to be someplace special for you in it."

Tapping Nariya and Talen on the shoulders, Lilia will say, “Come friends, we have much to discuss.”

"Of course," she says, tearing away from the wondrous view. She follows Lilia to their meeting.

"Yes I'm with you. We need to put an end to this desicration," Nariya says firmly.

As Lilia speaks to those who completed the mission to restore the Mother Tree, a large roc comes flying very close to Golden Peak! Many of the elves present are weary; but Valena assures all that it is safe. Valena exchanges words with the Roc and then relates what she has learned to everyone present.

"Then let's go!" Nariya says with renewed vigor. "We can end this all right now."

Lilia the Leader?

Post by Lilia »

Lilia:

Lilia is pleased that her friends are eager to finish the battle with the orcs. But before any plans can be made, a roc appears. Valena speaks to the giant bird, while Lilia calms the other elves present.

Valena reports that the orcs are already on the march from their forts! The rocs will carry us to engage the enemy.”
Nariya wrote:"Then let's go!" Nariya says with renewed vigor. "We can end this all right now."
“Agreed!” Lilia adds. “Valena, alert the griffons to the danger too. We’ll take all the help that we can get. The cooshee’s too, if any are about. Also see if the rocs will help us in the battle to come.”

While Valena is doing that, Lilia will rush to inform the other leaders of the danger and the need to act quickly.

Once that is done, Lilia will join everyone else on the back of the roc.

“Clan Grunalf has battled orcs for generations and formulated tactics that are useful against them,” Lilia explains. “We have no time to prepare, so we must take them out as quick as possible. Mages are to use their largest most damaging spells right away. Whittle their numbers down so that we can engage the rest in hand-to-hand combat without being overwhelmed. A pack of cooshee's would be wonderful right about now.”

Lilia now regrets having removed the Star Crown and having lost all those extra spells it granted her. They sure would be handy now!

Lilia will cast Strength and Cat’s Grace upon herself right now, and then add Polymorph Self upon reaching the orc horde.
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

Valena:

Valena pulls herself away from River Blossom long enough to learn about the plan to attack the orc forts. Then a roc shows up with a message!

"The rocs indicate that the orcs are streaming out of their fortress right now! They are offering to carry us to the enemy. But we have to leave now!
Lilia wrote:“Agreed!” Lilia adds. “Valena, alert the griffons to the danger too. We’ll take all the help that we can get. The cooshee’s too, if any are about. Also see if the rocs will help us in the battle to come.”
“Right, that makes sense,” Valena notes as she hustles of to speak to the other animal friends in the area. There is Laucian’s griffon, and hopefully a cooshee or two in the area. Then she’ll speak to the roc again, asking for the aid of its kin.

Once that is complete, Valena will climb up on the roc and take a seat close to the neck, so that she can speak to the roc during the flight.

To Save Mother Tree

Post by Kylie »

Kylie:
Allurien wrote:“You were ten the last time I saw you,” Allurien says in a voice just above a whisper.
Eleven years! Kylie knew it had been a long time, but that's half her life! Clearly, her mother is unsettled by this information. How hard this must all be for her.
Allurien wrote:“Oh,” is all that Allurien says at first. It’s clear as the words sink in that she’s feeling hurt.

“Perhaps it is for the best then,” Allurien will finally say after a long pause. “If your father has found happiness, then I am happy for him.”
Kylie cringes at the pain behind her mother's eyes. "I'm sorry, Mom, I didn't know how else to tell you. A lot has happened in the last decade. I'm just so happy that you're back." Kylie gives her a mother a hug, wanting that feeling of being close to her again.

===
Talen wrote:“Sure thing. I saw that you find your mom. I’m very happy for you.”
"Well, now's your chance to meet her," Kylie says leading him on a weaving course through the crowd of elves. "And don't worry, she probably won't turn you into a newt or a mouse..."

When they reach Allurien, Kylie skids to a stop. "Hi Mom! This is Talen," she says, indicating her half-drow companion. "He's a member of our group. He's the brother of Lia, who just got turned into a drow by Eilistraee - I'm sure you've seen her by now. They are both related to Sherwood, who discovered my magical talent and who brought us here. You should meet him, too," she says, suddenly thoughtful.

Turning to Talen, Kylie asks, "So what reward did you request, Talen?"

===
“Nothing could keep me from being with you again,” Allurien whispers as she hugs her daughter tightly. “Not even Gruumsh himself could keep me away. Be careful, be safe.”
"I will, Mom. You too." Kylie then hurries off to join the meeting.
Lilia wrote:As Lilia speaks to those who completed the mission to restore the Mother Tree, a large roc comes flying very close to Golden Peak! “The rocs indicate that the orcs are streaming out of their fortress right now! They are offering to carry us to the enemy. But we have to leave now!"
"I'm ready," Kylie says grimly, already missing her mother.
Lilia wrote:“Agreed!” Lilia adds. “Valena, alert the griffons to the danger too. We’ll take all the help that we can get. The cooshee’s too, if any are about. Also see if the rocs will help us in the battle to come.”

"I think Dapple is still around, though I've been too busy to check on him since the battle with Moorkroft. I'll go take a look." Kylie flies off in search of Dapple and the other cooshees, bringing back any that are willing to go. When she returns, she joins the others on the roc, bringing any cooshees she found with her.
Kylie wrote:“Clan Grunalf has battled orcs for generations and formulated tactics that are useful against them,” Lilia explains. “We have no time to prepare, so we must take them out as quick as possible. "That makes sense," Kylie replies and begins to formulate her plan. Upon coming within range of the orcs, she will fly off of the roc while casting Improved Invisibility on herself. Then, she'll open up with Lighting Bolt.

Desperately trying to not make a fool of himself, Talen says, “Hello, ma’am. Nice to meet you.”

Talen will climb on to the roc and hold on for dear life. He doesn’t have much in the way to magic to be of any great help in the struggle to come. Talen will cast his first Fireball upon the orcs, provided that it’ll not damage the forest.

Laucian
To Laucian she’ll say, “Your reward for restoring the Mother Tree? He is magnificent. If you can pull yourself away for a few moments, we have things to discuss.”
“In my heart I cannot believe such a thing. I will treasure him always.” He says to no one as Lilia walks up. “Aye, can you believe it? I hope I serve him well. Certainly, I’ll be there in a moment.” He says turning back to the griffon. “I will be back momentarily. Do not wonder far, and fear not you are not the only one of your kind here. A handful of your number resides within these trees, and soon your number will fill the skies like days of ole.”

Gathering up his weapons he stows them as he moves towards the conference.

“You need not ask if I am with you, Lilia. For you are kin.” Looking at the others assembled Laucian will describe the forts he knows of. “The Wyrven riders do not dwell within the same buildings, if you strike at them like a eagle strikes a mouse, you will cripple their air power. But do not become over confident. Within their ranks was a Frost giant and hounds made of fire, there is no telling what else was in Mookroft’s employ.

Soon a Large roc flies near talking Valena, and word rings out that the orcs are on the move.

“Agreed!” Lilia adds. “Valena, alert the griffons to the danger too. We’ll take all the help that we can get. The cooshee’s too, if any are about. Also see if the rocs will help us in the battle to come.”

“Don’t forget the centaurs or brownies this is their home as well. It is time that these orcs be purged from our lands for to long their stink has be allowed to linger.”

(How skilled is Laucian with his griffon? Not sure if he was enlighten as well or does he have to train it.)

Lia

“The were a group of Priestess of the Dark Maiden based here in the Realm. Their presence was generally unknown to the regular elves. The war between the surface and the Underdark elves still rages from time to time. There are drow who would see the Sylvan Realm destroyed. Occasionally they launch attacks and the Darksong Knights were the first line of defense.”

“At the same time they would work to bring those elves who wanted to return to the light into the Sylvan Realm.”

“Perhaps it is time these Darksong Knights sang once again beneath the twilight.” She says thoughtfully weighing the options in her mind. “Thank you for bringing this to light.”

Soon word of the orcs assaulting the wood reaches her ear. Looking at the others her hand rests on her hilt and within moments the metallic hiss is heard as she raises her sword into the air. “For our home. For the Slyvain Realm!”
The last thing you shall hear is the bladesong of my sword.

The Battle:

Alerted by the rocs, the elves are preparing to engage the orcs! Once they saw the Mother Tree towering over the Sylvan Realm, they grabbed their weapons and were on the march!

Valena quickly speaks to Laucian’s griffon, alerting him to the danger. Then she speaks to the few cooshee’s that are present. Lastly, she has words with River Blossom. The unicorn nods her understanding and then simply vanishes. Valena relates that the unicorn will alert the other unicorns, the brownies, and the centaurs as well.

While this is going on, other rocs move closer to Golden Peak to allow elves to climb on their backs. The other elfin parties are lagging behind as some of their numbers are down on the ground.

But all the members of your group are present, along with a couple of cooshee’s and you take your places on the back of the giant bird. The roc beats its wings, whipping up a fierce wind and flies off towards the nearest fort, which is due north.

Laucian mounts his griffon and flies along side. The griffon matches the pace of the much larger roc.

As you fly along, both the roc and the griffon pass the warning along to others of its kind. The skies still had many rocs and griffons in it from the earlier aerial battles with the wyvern riders and the black dragon. The rocs head back to Golden Peak to carry other elves. The griffons fly back too, but some remain with you on trip.

About two hours later, you reach the edge of the Sylvan Realm. A large plain nestled before the mountains is there. A river flows through this plain and into the Sylvan Realm. This river runs all the way to the city where the Mother Tree is! All the orcs have to do is follow it’s shore to reach her.

As you get closer, you can see at least one hundred orcs rushing towards the Sylvan Realm. Following the orcs, and towering over them, is a fire giant. There are at least a dozen hellhounds running with the giant.

Leading the way over the orc horde is six wyvern riders and they are drawing closer!

The griffon is fully trained and Laucian now has the skill to ride it like an expert. Furthermore, the griffon can comprehend elvish, so it can be spoken to directly.

Being faster, the Wyvern Riders than the orcs, they will reach you before you reach the orcs. There are only six of them, as the others fell in the earlier battles.

Three riderless griffons are also accompanying you, along with two cooshee’s including Dapple.

Now what?

As they depart to confront the orcs, Nariya reminds everyone, "Remember to target the leaders and sub-chiefs. Without leadership the horde should begin to fall apart. Orcs are only brave if they see their leaders standing."

"We need to seperate a bit, maybe onto the ground" Nariya says, obviously not comfortable fighting in the sky. "If this roc were to fall we would all perish."

Depending on the plan, Nariya will use her new spear either elongated as a lance against the wyvern riders or hurled against one of the orcish leaders if she is set down on the ground.

Lilia the Leader?

Post by Lilia »

Lilia:
Laucian wrote:“In my heart I cannot believe such a thing. I will treasure him always.” He says to no one as Lilia walks up. “Aye, can you believe it? I hope I serve him well. Certainly, I’ll be there in a moment.”
“Given what I have seen this day, there is very little that I will not believe,” Lilia easily answers. “I am sure that you both will make many more stories in the days and years to come.”
Laucian wrote:“Don’t forget the centaurs or brownies this is their home as well. It is time that these orcs be purged from our lands for to long their stink has be allowed to linger.”
“Agreed,” Lilia adds. “We should tell as many of our allies as possible.”

Lilia herself will rush off to find the High Keeper to alert him and his followers. Should any orcs break through, they will be the last line of defense for the Mother Tree.

Everyone agrees to help against the orcs and we’re off. Lilia slowly climbs unto the back of the roc and holds on. A few cooshee’s make the trip as well. What loyal and brave creatures they are! Laucian flies along on his new griffon.

After a tense ride, the orc horde is spotted up ahead on a plain just outside the Sylvan Realm. The orcs are still hours away and that’s a good thing in Lilia’s mind.

“By my estimation, those orcs are at least a day’s march from the Mother Tree,” Lilia calls out. “And if these are the closest ones, then the others are further away still. The denseness of the forest will further slow their progress once they reach the Sylvan Realm. That will give us time to eliminate their threat before they can do any real damage.”

However, the orcs are not the immediate threat. Rather a unit of wyvern riders!
Nariya wrote:"We need to separate a bit, maybe onto the ground,” Nariya says, obviously not comfortable fighting in the sky. "If this roc were to fall we would all perish."
“Agreed!” Lilia calls out. “We can’t engage in aerial combat like this.”

After a moment’s thought, Lilia adds, “Laucian! Go and greet the wyverns and take the other three griffons with you! That might distract them long enough for us to safely land. Anyone who can make it to the ground on your own power should do so now. If some of the wyverns do follow us, then make ready your bows and spells. We’ll need to take them out before they can reach the roc.”

As per her earlier plan, Lilia will cast Polymorph Self and take the form of a sylph. Using her wings, slip off the back of the roc and continue to fly onward. Should any wyverns threaten the roc, Lilia will cast Magic Missile at the rider attempting to remove them from his aerial mount.
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

To Save Mother Tree

While I could stay with him for the rest of his life, he cannot last for mine. This just saves both of us future pain.”

“But enough of such sombre thoughts. We have lots of lost time to make up for. You’ve grown so much, that I didn’t even recognize you at first. I only wish that I had been there for you and your father.”
"When I was young, I couldn't understand why you left. The elves said you were sick and that only they could treat you, but they wouldn't answer any questions or let us see you. Now I know what you were really doing, and it was an important task, though I think it would have been better if we knew the truth.

"Still, here you are and here I am. We have a lot of catching up to do, and hopefully we will have time for it once the realm is safe. Do you intend to remain here in the Sylvan Realm? I think I would like to, but more importantly, I don't want to lose you again."
Talen wrote:“Sure thing,” Talen answers. After a moments thought, he begins to panic. “Why would she turn me into anything? What did I do?”
"Nothing - that I'm aware of, at least." Kylie gives Talen a scrutinizing look over her shoulder as they walk. "Mom was always pretty protective,
but I figure there's a pretty good chance she won't do anything rash... I hope." There is just a hint of a smile on Kylie's lips; she's rather enjoying teasing Talen and he's being a pretty good sport about it.
Talen wrote:“I haven’t yet,” Talen admits. “Nothing’s really come to mind. I’m still grappling with some of the changes that I’ve already seen. Admittedly, I don’t even know what I’m going to do next. Whether to stay or to go back home.”
"Well, both are pretty big decisions. I can understand you wanting to take your time. Most of the group seem inclined to stay here for a while, but I know you have family elsewhere and I don't know anything about Sherwood's plans at this point. If you do decide to leave, you should probably request your reward before you go. If you want, I'd be happy to talk with you about all this stuff after we get back from the coming battle." Kylie is kind of hoping Talen will stick around a while, but it really is his decision.
Allurien wrote:“Where is this Sherwood that you speak of?”
"Hm," Kylie murmurs to herself. "In truth, I don't quite know. I haven't seen him since just after we defeated Moorkroft. Not being an elf, he might be feeling out of place. Perhaps he's wandering about the fringes somewhere or busy studying something. I suspect he'll show up for the battle with the orcs. I suppose we can look around for him afterward."

The flight on the roc's back is pretty long. Laucian flies alongside on a beautiful griffin, and seems as though he's been riding it his whole life. Eventually they see the orcs over a rise in the distance. They are accompanied by a fire giant; Kylie cannot help wondering if it is the same one she stole the medallion from. Much nearer are a small group of wyverns with orcish riders. It seems they are to be the first challenge, but fortunately there appear to be only about a half dozen.
Lilia wrote:After a moment’s thought, Lilia adds, “Laucian! Go and greet the wyverns and take the other three griffons with you! That might distract them long enough for us to safely land. We’ll need to take them out before they can reach the roc.”
"Hope you don't mind if I tag along," Kylie says, lifting into the air above the roc and following Laucian forward. "Take care," she says with a glance over at Talen before she sails forth. As soon as they come into range, Kylie will open up with a salvo of Magic Missiles at the nearest wyvern, then ready her bow. Fortunately, she still has a quiver full of magic arrows; perhaps the fire and ice arrows will give these beasts something to think about.

Laucian
Taking off ito the air upon his new griffon, Laucian feels the motion of the griffons wings beneath him. Within moments he takes the reigns with on hand and slowly moves with the motion of the griffon. In Elvish, ‘Seems I have been flying or sometime though just a few days ago I was frightened to fly among the clouds.

“If you can give me support from the ground it would be most welcome.” He calls out as he urges his mount forward, “Keep them busy till the others reach the ground.Kylie, if you have stunning arrows target the Wyrvens.. let gravity do the rest!” With a screech of understanding the Griffon banks and accelerates. Taking his bow in his hands he will knock a stunning arrow to his bow and attempt to hit the Wyrven with it, If the wyrvens come to close he will switch to longsword and do his best to defend himself and his griffon.
(Strike and run tactic I am assuming, Not totally familiar with aeral combat, and I dont want a crash course ;) )

Lia

Lia does her best to hold on to the ordeal till she reaches the ground once she does so she will draw her sword, and protect any of those who assault the wyrvens, as they await the orcs.

Talen:
Kylie wrote:"Nothing - that I'm aware of, at least." Kylie gives Talen a scrutinizing look over her shoulder as they walk. "Mom was always pretty protective, but I figure there's a pretty good chance she won't do anything rash... I hope." There is just a hint of a smile on Kylie's lips; she's rather enjoying teasing Talen and he's being a pretty good sport about it.
There is a look of real concern on Talen’s face for a few beats and then it lightens. “You’re just teasing me, aren’t you?”
Kylie wrote:While not completely following what Kylie is saying, Allurien remains polite. “Hello, Talen. You and your friends have accomplished a great deed today. You should be proud.”
“Thank you, ma’am.” Talen answers, a goofy grin on his face.
Kylie wrote:"Well, both are pretty big decisions.
“Yeah, it’s a big decision,” Talen agrees. “Sure, we can talk later on. In fact, I look forward to it!”
Kylie wrote:"Hope you don't mind if I tag along," Kylie says, lifting into the air above the roc and following Laucian forward.

“How’d you do that?” Talen says incredulously. “You didn’t cast a spell!”

Talen considers his options as the wyvern riders draw closer. He’s skill with the bow is pathetic, so he doesn’t even attempt to fire it. Talen just holds on to the roc, perhaps holding on to a cooshee as well and will wait for the giant bird to land before deciding on attacking.

Valena of the Silver Maidens

Post by Valena Feador »

Valena:

Valena keeps a tight grip on the roc as we fly along. Along the way she’ll marvel at Laucian’s griffon mount. What a magnificent creature!

Wyvern riders are spotted provided aerial support for the advancing orcs. They’ll need to be dealt with first.
Lilia wrote:After a moment’s thought, Lilia adds, “Laucian! Go and greet the wyverns and take the other three griffons with you! That might distract them long enough for us to safely land. Anyone who can make it to the ground on your own power should do so now. If some of the wyverns do follow us, then make ready your bows and spells. We’ll need to take them out before they can reach the roc.”
Laucian wrote:“Keep them busy till the others reach the ground. Kylie, if you have stunning arrows target the Wyverns.. let gravity do the rest!”
Valena’s catches part of what Laucian called out and smiles deviously in response.

“What a marvellous idea!” Grasping a stun arrow from her quiver, Valena will target the approaching griffons. Once in range, she’ll open fire!

Kylie wrote:"When I was young, I couldn't understand why you left. The elves said you were sick and that only they could treat you, but they wouldn't answer any questions or let us see you. Now I know what you were really doing, and it was an important task, though I think it would have been better if we knew the truth.
“It was handled badly,” Allurien admits. “I will have words with those individuals responsible for such needless cruelty.”
Kylie wrote:"Still, here you are and here I am. We have a lot of catching up to do, and hopefully we will have time for it once the realm is safe. Do you intend to remain here in the Sylvan Realm? I think I would like to, but more importantly, I don't want to lose you again."
“This is all so sudden, that I really haven’t even given the matter any thought. My original intent was to return home to you and your father and that now no longer is an option.”

“Still, there are other options. I’m not so sure I wish to return to the Elfholds and staying here does have its appeal. There is our clanhold to rebuild and I am in fairly high standing within our clan. Feadiel will need to be restored and made ready for the return of the elves. Does that task sound appealing to you?”

Aerial Conflict:

The return of the Mother Tree has not gone unnoticed. The orc army in the forts surrounding the Sylvan Realm has grabbed their weapons and is now rushing towards the elfin wood. The rocs spotted them from high above and relayed this information to the elves. The adventuring groups are rushing to gather their members and then ride the rocs to the approaching orcs.

The heroes who restored the Mother Tree are the first to depart, as they were all ready in one place. Save for Sherwood, who was last seen searching for the flying barge. The roc takes the group to the closest group of orcs, which in this case is almost due north from the Mother Tree.

Flying ahead of the orcs is a small unit of wyvern riders and they will reach you first. Laucian urges his mount ahead of the roc and the other griffons trail behind him.

On the back of the roc, Kylie slips off and flies under her own power. However, she’s not as fast as the roc and starts to fall behind. Lilia casts Polymorph Self and assumes the form of a Sylph. She too slips off and is also not as fast as the roc.

Valena draws her bow and fires a pair of Stun Arrows at the approaching wyverns, but both of her shafts misses.

Nariya, Lia, and Talen just hold on to the roc for the moment.

Laucian has his bow ready and he fires a pair of Stun Arrows in quick succession. Each shaft strikes a different wyvern and they start to tumble from the sky! Those who keep watch will see the wyvern and their rider fall to their deaths.

The griffons close in on the much larger wyverns, as if they were involved in some sort of aerial joust. Laucian’s griffon streaks towards the first wyvern. Its talon’s rake the wyverns back while the wyvern scratches the griffon’s side with its own talons.

The riderless griffons separate and close in on the remaining three wyverns. A wyvern savagely attacks the first griffon, ripping its throat apart. The griffon falls and disappears from sight.

The other two pairs of griffons and wyverns exchange claw attacks and fly past each other. The griffons and wyverns have passed each other now and are flying further apart. Both groups will have to circle back around in order to continue the conflict.

Four wyverns remain from the original six and these are getting closer to the roc. Valena takes aim once more with Stun Arrows. These targets are much closer and this time she embeds her arrows in two different wyverns. Both wyverns freeze up and begin to fall to their deaths. Down to two wyverns.

Kylie and Lilia cast Magic Missiles from their positions trailing the roc. Both ladies generate four missiles and these slam into each surviving wyvern, but it’s not enough to slay the dragon-like beasts!

The two wyverns close on the roc. Nariya flings her newly gained spear, having willed it into the form of a 12’ longspear. Her aim is true and the wyvern is fatally struck and begins to plummet. The spear will return to Nariya’s hand in less than a minute.

The last wyvern closes in on the roc, it’s talons extended to attack. It scrapes along the side of the roc causing some minor damage. At the same time, Lia slashes the monster’s side with her longsword. The wyvern can no longer fly after the sword thrust and it too begins to plummet.

But even worse, the impact caused Talen to loose his balance! The young half-elf falls from the rocs back with Dapple in his arms.

GM Notes:

Feadiel is the name of the tree-town that surrounds the Mother Tree. The Feador clan is the leader in lore concerning the Mother Tree’s and the tree keepers tend to come from this clan. Feadiel is the Sylvan Realm Clanhold for the Feadors.

The wyverns have been defeated, but Talen and Dapple are in free fall. A little help will be nice.

The griffons cannot help as they are flying in the opposite direction. It takes time for aerial beasts to turn while flying at full speed. The riderless griffons can turn 90 degrees each round, so they can do a 180 in two rounds. Laucian’s griffon can only turn 60 degrees per round, so it takes three rounds to turn around.

For the curious, the wyverns were even worse, requiring 5 rounds to do a 180-degree turn.

Now what?

To Save Mother Tree

Kylie:
Talen wrote:There is a look of real concern on Talen’s face for a few beats and then it lightens. “You’re just teasing me, aren’t you?”
"Why Talen, where did you come up with such a silly notion?" Kylie asks. Moments later, her disingenuous look cracks and slides into a smirk just as she turns away...
Allurien wrote:“This is all so sudden, that I really haven’t even given the matter any thought.

Kylie can only remember the briefest mentions of the name Feadiel from her childhood, but it doesn't really matter to her. All that really matters is being here with her mother. "Very much so, Mom. I would like to help where I may, and getting to spend more time with you is all I can really ask."
Talen wrote:“Yeah, it’s a big decision,” Talen agrees. “Sure, we can talk later on. In fact, I look forward to it!”
"It's a date," Kylie replies, looking him right in the eye. "Come on, we need to go join the others."
Laucian wrote:“If you can give me support from the ground it would be most welcome.” He calls out as he urges his mount forward, “Keep them busy till the others reach the ground.Kylie, if you have stunning arrows target the Wyrvens.. let gravity do the rest!” With a screech of understanding the Griffon banks and accelerates. Taking his bow in his hands he will knock a stunning arrow to his bow and attempt to hit the Wyrven with it, If the wyrvens come to close he will switch to longsword and do his best to defend himself and his griffon.
Kylie nods her understanding and draws her bow. Unfortunately, she only keeps two Arrows of Stunning in her Quiver, so she'll need to make the shots count.
Talen wrote:“How’d you do that?” Talen says incredulously. “You didn’t cast a spell!”
"I didn't, did I..." Kylie gives Talen a quick grin back over her shoulder before flying off after Laucian to do battle with the wyverns. Unfortunately, she soon finds herself falling behind. However, the wyverns are closing the distance quickly enough so she slows and fires off a brace of Magic Missiles at maximum range. The magical darts injure her target, but are not enough to take it down. Lilia has no better luck with hers. Nariya slays one with her amazing new spear, and Lia manges to finish the other with her sword.

Just as the last wyvern dies, it knocks Talen off the roc's back and he begins to plummet toward the ground far below! Not only that, but he was holding Dapple, and the cooshie is now falling too!

Immediately, Kylie dives after them. She can only hope that she can fly downward fast enough to snag them before they hit the ground. Trying desparately to find a way to save them, Kylie digs the Ring of Feather Falling out of her enchanted Girdle - hoping that she'll be able to hand it to Talen in time. It's too bad he doesn't have a suit of the elven chainmail like she wears, or this wouldn't be a problem. The thought forms in some corner of her mind that this will need to be rectified...

Lilia

Lilia:

After taking the familiar form of a Sylph, Lilia slips off the back of the roc and flies under her own power. She falls behind at first, but starts to beat her wings faster and manages to catch up.

The group uses the Stun Arrows they found in the griffon stables earlier to great effect. The wyverns struck can no longer fly and plummet harmlessly to their deaths. Magic Missiles are cast, but they are not enough to stop the approaching Wyvern.

Lilia can see a lone wyvern reach the roc and inflict damage. There is an impact and Talen and Dapple fall off! Kylie dives in pursuit, and Lilia follows her. The elf maiden figures that she can carry both Talen and Dapple since you used a Strength spell earlier. It’s just a matter of reaching them.

Then Lilia remembers that she already has a spell in memory that can solve the whole problem and thankfully it can cast at a distant target! Once close enough, Lilia will cast Feather Fall on Talen.
Either by my magic or my bow you WILL fall!

Talen just shakes his head. That girl is such a tease! If she wasn’t so cute…

All Talen can do is watch as the fight with the wyverns unfolds. It’s incredible to see such large creatures fighting in mid-air! One breaks through and swipes the roc. Lia strikes it with her sword, but the impact throws Talen off the rocs back with Dapple in his arms!

“HELP!” is about all that Talen can say at the moment, mentally kicking himself for not memorizing Feather Fall.

Valena:

Valena aims carefully at the approaching rocs, but her ride isn’t steady and the range is too far and her shafts miss. Reloading, Valena gets better results the second time around and two wyverns are removed from the fight.

However, two break through. Nariya takes one out with her spear, while the other actually reaches the roc. Valena holds on as the two collide and manages to keep her place. Lia stabs the beast with her sword and the wyvern falls.

Valena is excited about the victory at first, until she hears Talen calling for help. A quick look confirms that the lad is falling and there’s nothing Valena can do about it!

Laucian

Pulling a pair of stunning arrows from his quiver, Laucian knocks one, “Stay steady, my friend.” He says as he lets fly then knocks and fires another. Within moments the wyverns are falling to their deaths the orcs upon their backs screaming the whole way.

As they dra closer the griffons and wyverns tear at each other with reckless abandon. Out of the corner of his eyes he catches the sight of a griffon falling from the sky. Circling around, Laucian hears the screams of Help, though there is nothing he can do as he watches Talen fall from the heavens a cooshee within his grasp.

Laucian will steer his griffon toward the others, converting his Detect evil to cure wounds and casting it on his griffon. “Well done.” He says to his griffon as they slowly make the turn. The sudden thought of naming the griffon but there are more pressing matters at hand.

Lashing out with her longsword, she can feel the wyverns flesh give from beneath her blade, then comes the collision. A smile comes to her face as she realizes the fight for the moment is over. Then she hears the pleas from Talen for help. Turning she sees him fall off the orc, her grip on her sword loosens as she screams at the top of her lungs. “TALEN!!!!!!!!!!!!” and moves as close to the edge as she can without falling off. Moving to Valena, “Please we have to do something… Ask the roc to Help him please.” She begs, knowing how vulnerable and useless she is.
